I finished redecorating all my villagers’ houses! 🥳

Design thoughts/infodump under the cut!

So when designing these houses I had several goals in mind. Trinket is a movie production themed island and each villager has a role on set, so I wanted to incorporate parts of that into their houses. When possible I also tried to keep aspects of their original houses, and I tried to decorate them in fun and interesting ways while still keeping the space livable. That meant leaving plenty of space for the villager and a guest or two to walk around. Overall I wanted each house to be a comfortable place for the villager to live in! Last, I tried to give each villager their own little hobby or interest to add flavor. I did this a little bit on my first island with my villagers’ yards, but now that I have the DLC, I could go all out by decorating the interiors!

Individual notes (in order of the images above):

Quinn: I kept a lot of the original design for her, but I added most of the small flavor items. Quinn is the writer for Trinket Studios, but I decided she’s also a hobbyist chef! She experiments with new recipes for herself and her neighbors in her spare time

Jacques: I kept the underground music aspects of his house, but I gave him a couple of guitars too and some brick walls to spray paint. Jacques is the crew member who assembles sets and creates props, so I figure his music and art is where he gets to make things that are just for himself (and whichever neighbors want to come see!)

Phil: the main thing I changed about his house was the color scheme, I wanted to switch the red for cool colors like peacock feathers, to match Phil bc he’s a gaudy, big time actor. He’s one of the leads in the blockbuster museum heist/international spy movie that’s being filmed on Trinket. Small details but I love the pattern on his lamp, and the shell music box is playing KK Adventure, which when it’s played in a music box style ends up being a cute song for our action hero to relax to in his spare time

Ruby: okay I get that Ruby’s original room is space because she’s a moon rabbit and that’s her whole design but consider: cute little space themed cafe on a street corner. You see the vision. I had the song Space Cadette by Back to Yours playing on repeat for days when I made this. Ruby shares the lead actress role with Coco for the summercamp horror movie also being filmed on Trinket, she’s the alive version of the girl who comes back to haunt the camp

Jay: he is our other crew member, he’s in charge of plants and landscaping on set (very important given how many different nature sets there are). He also likes gardening and nature outside of work, and he likes to skateboard because… well because I had just gotten the item and it sounded fun! I wish there were more skateboarding items I could give him tbh, like a little ramp or something

Coco: this is one of the houses I kept the least inspiration from. Her original design is based in archaeology, but I wanted to give her something cute and sweet. Coco plays the vengeful spirit that gets awakened in the summercamp horror movie, but outside of acting she’s a very sweet girl who likes to make music! I think she and Jacques have both also developed some of the musical scores used in various movies

Sasha: I love this one so much!! I kept his house’s vibes and his stuffed animals, and I gave him a little stargazing spot and a firefly (bc if he’s gonna talk about the bugs whispering to him then I gotta give him a little bug friend). He’s the heartthrob lead actor of the summercamp horror movie, he’s very popular with the tween girl audience.

Monique: she’s a fancy, glitz and glam, well-known actress, so her home reflects that. I think I kept literally nothing from her original house. She has some record disks and a nice camera laying around, so she still finds some time for enjoying and making art in between all her fancy actressing. She’s currently the femme fatale in the museum heist/spy film.

Marlo: he’s an old old man who likes the simple things in life; building model toys and being an aircraft enthusiast. What’s the point of having a long successful acting career if not to spend it on lovingly crafting model trains and gundams. Once he (read: I) gets his hands on the model DAL plane, it’s over for you hoes. On set, he’s the Alfred to Phil’s Bruce Wayne.

Tiffany: this was the last home I decorated! Her home already had a kind of bar games theme, so I amped it up into a full club and bar! She’s the supporting actress for Monique, they’re a dastardly, hyper competent, internationally wanted, honestly pretty gay pair of art thieves. But in her spare time she mostly just wants to host huge parties for all her friends ❤️

And that’s all of them! They all also have their own yards that reflect more of their personalities and interests, and the rest of Trinket is covered in movie sets and cameras for both the two movies currently being filmed and several others from the studio’s past. It’s a very fun project that I’ve been working on for the past year or so 💞💞💞

At this point I started to think harder about the songs that have meant the most to me throughout my life and as I've gotten older. For example, I like a lot of Bright Eyes songs more than First day, but that song has had way more impact on me. I play it all the time, the lyrics are permanently imprinted in my mind, and to me it's one of the most beautiful and vulnerable love songs ever written. With that in mind more and more "important" songs started coming to mind.

Now I have ten, that was easy.

Except...

I remembered that one Demarco song that makes me cry everytime I hear it. Got to include that. How many times have I listened to the Glow pt 2 during the summer? How could I leave off something from Porcupine Tree, the band that I once considered my favorite band of all time? So I kept going, through names and bands that I collect like emotional trophies, not wanting to leave anything out. They all mean so much, it's honestly pathetic. I used to hyperfixate on things like Zelda and Star Wars, then I found this shit and my brain chemistry has been altered ever since.

Funny how quickly a song can feel like home. That Crane Wives song technically shouldn't even be here, I only heard it for the first time a few weeks ago. Yet maybe listening to it 30 times since qualifies it for consideration. Phoebe Bridgers has a lyric in one of her songs about wishing she had written something instead of the original artist, but she can't cause they said it first. So instead she'll learn their song and sing until the feverish inspired feeling fades away in a voyeuristic catharsis.

I think about that line constantly. Also quickly want to mention here that I'm more of an album guy. I try to listen to full records to try an experience the full piece of art the creator made. So while no song off The Downward Spiral is on my list of favorite songs, that was and is one of the most impactful albums to me as a teenager.

Swans was hard, because there were a few songs that meant a lot to me. But ultimately there wasn't one more visceral or frankly more evil sounding than New Mind. Love the themes, love the singing style, love the backing yells, love the industrial outro, love the faint organ, love everything about that damn song.

The list kept getting longer, and for each song I was writing a paragraph to explain my choice lol. After the first like 15 I decided to stop doing that for the sake of your eyes and for risk of sounding redundant. But a major thing I love about some of these songs are how inspirational they are. Twin Sized Mattress, Denton Metal Band, Story of an Artist, they all paint a picture of the type of person I want to be. The type of art I will always support. The thing I hope to one day inspire in other people.

When you punish a person for dreaming their dream don't expect them to thank or forgive you. The best ever death metal band out of Denton, will in time both outpace and outlive you.

Those words could honestly save someone's life, it's crazy.

Okay, threw these and now dozens more names are crowding my brain, and this incredibly pretentious post must come to an end. Long story short, I only have one song left to share, but each of these song has a very personal connection to me. Certain ones (like that tool song) actually changed the way I look at the world and helped me through dark periods of my life.

Many of them inspire me, some of them are just beautiful in a broken and real sorta way, and all of them feel human. The art represents something bigger than itself and the ambition knows no bounds. These songs changed my world for the better, and if you read this you are now obligated to listen to all of them.

fem dreamling my loves! this was originally inspired by @pies-in-the-skies gorgeous perfect art (check it out. admire it. adore it) but i got kind of sidetracked so i figured i'd post separately rather than appending so as not to derail the art.

10% engagement photos! and 90% rambling about dream's relationship with art, which is my greatest passion

Convincing Dream to have engagement photos taken might just be Hob’s greatest coup. She’s still not sure how she quite managed it. Granted, she had asked between kisses, but Dream had still seemed amenable to it the following morning.

Photos. Of Dream. What a thought.

It’s proving a dangerous one, though. For Hob’s sanity. Seeing Dream in her elegant dress, under lights, hair spilling from its updo to trail over her shoulders. Hob was incapable of handling Dream on a normal day, never mind like this.

Earlier, she’d had Dream sprawled out below her, like an offering. Like the most beautiful thing Hob had ever seen. Hob had run her hands over her, just because she could, touched her fragile throat, the hard line of her collarbone, the hollow of her stomach as she breathed, the jut of her hips, the curve of her thigh, touched her everywhere. Dream had watched her, eyes half-lidded. Enjoying the attention as always.

Hob had run a finger over her brows, her temple, the sharp angle of her cheek, her nose, her lips, dipping into her mouth. During a private moment, slipping a hand under the neckline of her dress, tracing the curve of her breast. Thumbing over her nipple.

Dream had raised an eyebrow at that, but didn’t say anything. Instead she took Hob’s hand, brought it to her lips, and nipped at her fingertips.

It had taken Hob a while to recover her composure and remember that this was not what photoshoots were for, actually.

Now, Hob is the one looking up at her, absolutely relishing in the view. Their photographer really did know how to pick a pose, this is glorious. Dream has a hand on her shoulder, pressing lightly, almost possessive. She looks carved of marble, dress draping over her bony frame, aristocratic face turned off to the distance.

“You’re so gorgeous in that,” Hob says. “So gorgeous. You look like a Roman goddess. One of those statues they have in museums.”

“I was a Roman goddess,” says Dream. “In a manner of speaking.”

“You’re my goddess,” Hob says, which is a sickening line but it gets a tiny, humored smirk out of Dream.

“Trite,” she says.

“Well, you’re the wordsmith between us. Princess of Stories. I only wish they could capture that on camera.”

“It has taken me some time to properly catch up on this art form,” says Dream. “When I… left, photography was not what it is now. But. I do believe the camera tells its own kind of tale.”

“Wise artist,” Hob says, and kisses the back of her hand, so full of fondness for her delicate, thoughtful fiancée – fiancée! – that she could burst.

She had been surprised by how easily Dream had taken to the rapid changes in art and stories over the century she’d been gone. It would be a lot for anyone to take in, especially a creature who could feel, hear, see, all of it, all at once. But Dream has taken it in stride, learning as she goes.

It’s been fascinating to watch the being who inspires these dreams learn of them from the outside. Hob has shown her so many films, and she seems enamored with each one. Cinema had, after all, still been in its infancy back in the 1910s. “Very dreamlike,” Dream had observed, after the first one they had watched, the echo of a memory in her eyes. “I recall meeting Méliès in Paris. A singular and whimsical soul. I’m glad to see they have taken up his torch.”

God, she really did just know every artist, didn’t she?

She’s missed a lot of them, though. She’s missed so much dreamlike art, the art of fantasy during the many wars, the art of post-industrialization, surrealism, Dada, post-modernism, the advent of comics, the advent of animation, all of radio, and television, and on and on and on and it hurts Hob’s heart to think of but she does love seeing Dream’s wonder in witnessing it now.

For all that she plays at stoicism and misanthropy Dream has such a genuine love of art and storytelling, and it still breaks Hob’s heart to think of her alone and cut off from it all for so long. Left to only her thoughts, which Hob knows well are turbulent at best.

She knows that Dream has seen all of it, now, in its scattered form in the Dreaming, but Hob is determined to let her experience it like a person, too.

Dream is of course, herself, also a piece of dreamlike art.

“Come down here,” Hob says, tugging on her hand.

Dream frowns, but drapes herself beside Hob on the settee, propping her head on her arm.

“I wanted to see the art up close,” Hob explains, with a grin.

“I don’t think that is the point of this exercise,” Dream says, but doesn’t move away.

“I still can’t believe I actually convinced you to let yourself be photographed,” Hob admits. “Would’ve thought you’d prefer to whisp away like a dream and never be recorded.”

“I have been drawn infrequently in this form, it is true,” Dream agrees. “Such is my nature. Artists may try, but art of dreams is always an abstraction.”

“Nobody can capture the true you, then?” Hob teases, brushing a strand of Dream’s hair behind her ear and letting her hand linger there, cradling her face.

Dream’s smile echoes with the deep knowledge and mystery of all the thousands of years of her life. “Because it is an abstraction does not mean it is not true.”

“Wise philosopher,” Hob murmurs. “C’mere.”

Dream leans into her arms, and Hob kisses her, tasting the fine line of her mouth, hands running up the sharp angles of her back. She distantly hopes their photographer, currently on a short break, might actually capture this moment, private though it is.

“Do not show these to anyone else,” Dream murmurs, and ah, maybe they did capture this on camera, and only Dream can see it from her angle.

Hob laughs, a breathy thing against her mouth. “God, no. Those are just for me. Although I do love having you on my arm. Showing you off. Prettiest thing in the world that you are.”

Or being on her arm, as it were, for Hob has attended a fair number of cryptic supernatural events in that manner.

“Such a flatterer. One might think you are only around to stoke my ego.”

“Aren’t I?” Hob kisses her again, soft and sweet and lingering. “Not that it needs any more stoking.”

“Oh, but it likes it.”

Hob kisses along her throat, under the hinge of her jaw. “I’ll bet.”

They kiss until it gets to the point where it’s starting to feel a little much for a setting where other people could appear at any time. Although… a proper boudoir session. It’s a compelling thought. A very compelling thought, even if those photos might actually kill Hob instantly.

“What else do you want to do on your day off, oh dream lord?” she asks, instead. “Considering I’ve roped you into my own machinations for half of it.”

“It’s been no burden,” says Dream. She smirks. “I have been suitably bribed with compliments.”

“Cheeky.”

“What shall we do with our evening?” Dream muses. Then grins, and it’s— it’s rare, that grin. A smile of genuine delight that breaks through her usual seriousness only on the slimmest of occasions. God, Hob loves that smile. “Movie.”

“Of course. I should have guessed.” Hob rolls onto her back, dragging Dream with her. This has become a common occurrence on days Dream permits herself a break from her never-ending work. Sometimes, Hob will take her out to the cinema properly, but more often than not they just end up on Hob’s couch, Dream sprawled across Hob’s lap, Hob stroking her hair as she watches whatever they’ve put on with absolute fixation.

“Netflix and chill,” so to speak, does not work with Dream. She’s far too committed to whatever story she’s dived into to be distracted. She watches films like they’re devotionals written for her, and maybe they are. Dreams captured momentarily in a frame.

Never separate a dream lord from her dreams.

Netflix then chill usually ends up happening, though.

“A movie it is, my liege,” Hob says, and Dream smiles, satisfied.

Least it’s not YouTube. Matthew had attempted to explain YouTube to Dream a while back, and it had been a horrifying experience, although her pinched, perplexed expression had been so adorable. Should Hob find a dream lord adorable? Oh well, she did anyway.

Later, Hob had given Dream her laptop to play around with, and found her still there many hours later, squinting at the screen, where a YouTube video was playing. Hob had no idea what was going on in this video, it was some kind of surreal, hypnotic animation.

“There is… so much, Hob,” Dream had said, sounding awed.

“Yeah, and a lot of it is shit, I’m afraid to tell you.”

But Dream just repeated, in a whisper, “There is so much,” and Hob’s heart hurt but in a good way, such a good way.

Hob had yet to try to explain TikTok to her. Not so much because of the horrors contained therein – when she really thought about it, Dream had seen and known every deep horror that had ever crossed the human psyche and could probably be fazed by very little – but rather because Hob was a bit worried she might just lose her into the endless scroll of content.

Give a dream lord an app full of the chaotic mess of dreams and only God knew what might happen.

“You spoil me,” Dream murmurs now, running a delicate hand up and down Hob’s arm.

Hob laughs. “You ask for the smallest things, love. Ask me for the world, and I’d give it to you.”

“I already have your love,” Dream says, bright-dark glimmer in her eyes were she looks down on Hob. “That is no small thing.”

Hob’s love for Dream is in fact very big inside her. “No, I guess not. But it’s easy to give.”

“And you say that I am an impossible creature.” Dream touches her face with light fingertips. “Although, I have found that…” she considers her words. “It has not been so hard to take, either.”

What it means to hear that from the woman who’d literally run the first time Hob had called her a friend. Hob doesn’t think Dream knows how it feels to her. She’ll probably never quite know, but that’s okay.

“Good.” She threads a hand in Dream’s hair, throat tightening. “Good, my darling. Good.”

ippiki au lore dump

if the name of the au does not make it very obvious, this au was inspired very heavily by the trained cards for kick it up a notch (i just chose to reference the comm, hitsuji ga ippiki, as the au name because it sounds cooler than calling it like. kickup au. so its ippiki au instead. when i first started working on this i just called it animal fighters au but thats long LOL)

its one of my favorite sets, im a big fan of dystopian and post-apocalyptic themes which the set hits perfectly and there was room to have fun with animal designs (i mean, seriously, they gave kohane sheep horns and named akitos costume "hound kid") and so i started thinking from the moment i laid eyes on the set when it leaked and i ended up with an au based around the idea of animal/human hybrids.

first of all for actual au stuff, character profiles! these were made a lot earlier on into working the au so ive made minor adjustments to their designs since then, but nothing drastic. mainly just little things ive changed when drawing them in more detail, like additional scars and such.

while making kohane a sheep and akito a dog (hes... not a specific kind of dog. hes a mix of a whole bunch of different larger domestic dog breeds combined with some wild canines. ) were obvious from the set, deciding on the animals for an and touya required a bit more thought. i ended up settling on a fox for an partially as a nod to her ny3 card and also because for a long time now ive thought theyre fitting for her anyway, and touya as a black leopard because... he's kitty. but i wanted to make him a big kitty not a domestic kitty. i do also like bunny touyas but for how i was feeling with this au i wanted him to be a cat.

theres the fun little detail that kohane is the only animal that isnt a predator in vbs.

but i should probably explain why theyre animal hybrids in this au.

im going to put the rest of the lore dump and more art below, this gets long.

basically, in the face of a coming apocalypse, there was an effort to attempt to hybridize humans with animals to see if they could create a form of human (or something seen as "human enough") that would be more resilient if the apocalypse threatened the survival of normal humanity. it was never completely successful and the hybrids were less stable/generally shorter lived (if physically stronger) but it ended up being unnecessary and enough of humanity survived to rebuild. but the experiments to create hybrids continued.

in the present day of the au, hybrids are created for... less pleasant tasks. the kinds of things people dont want to take on, and theyre physically stronger than the average human so theyre put to those jobs instead. or theyre created as showpieces/pets for the wealthy (most people outside of those circles find it strange to keep hybrids like that though. hybrids arent always seen as being truly human (although theyre fully capable of everything human and then some) but theyre still seen as human enough for it to be weird).

many of them though, are created as sacrifices for entertainment in battle arenas where theyll have to fight each other to the death. its a seemingly inevitable fate to die there once theyre sent, but escape has happened before. an is living proof of that, as both of her parents are escaped arena fighters who helped establish a small town of hybrids out in the wasteland beyond the city at the core of hybrid creation and sacrifice.

how an ended up as an arena fighter despite being born well outside the city... thats a long story.

touya is a showpiece fighter, created to fight but kept secure and safe outside of his registered fights. he might be healthier physically, much less worn down by fighting, but hes been very socially isolated and doesnt fit in with other hybrids very well.

an and touya fight in the same arena, and touyas fight days are the only times he interacts with other hybrids. hes given free reign around the hybrid compound (where most other hybrids are restricted under collars and chains) and he ends up meeting an there. although tense, they become sort of friends and he frees her and they escape together.

kohane and akito are just normal arena fighters, created solely for that purpose, although kohane was meant as an early sacrifice due to her skittish nature, but she survives. theyre in the same arena as each other, although its a harsher one than the one antouya are in, theyre unable to properly interact with anyone else at all and are just lucky enough to be neighbors to end up bonding.

i just grouped them based on which side of their face they have the barcodes on in the original cards lol in this au the arenas generally brand their fighters with a code for identifying them. touyas is actually not permanent like the others, but temporarily applied whenever he has a fight coming up (like a temporary tattoo lol)

kohane managing to survive despite the intention being that she dies is actually the driving force that starts the fic for this au (which fun fact, despite me never mentioning the title, does have a title! the fic will be called "fight, flight, freedom", unless i think of something that fits even better, but i already like the title as is so i probably wont change it)

heres my very initial attempts at designs for them! no drastic changes even since this initial pass at designs tbh i was pretty content with them pretty quickly

some various doodles of them interacting, some during/around the time of the fic and others post-fic

what if they were... more animal? like furries instead of just the ears/tails? obviously noncanon but it was a fun little thing to draw

wip aged up designs! heavily inspired by the power of unity set because it also fits into the post apocalyptic type theme and i thought would work for them when theyre a little older. assume theyre about 20-21 here, while in the main canon of the au theyre about 16-17.

a silly little sketch i did last week of aged up akikoha in their burn my soul outfits... kohane cant really wear hats, horns are inconvenient for that. everyone elses ears would probably make hats difficult too, but you could probably make holes for their ears. you cant really make holes for the tops of her horns.

now heres some other random au facts

an and haruka are childhood friends, haruka also being the child of ferals. haruka is a domestic cat hybrid (either a gray or black cat, i havent decided which yet). she is not in their hometown anymore either. where is she now...? ill leave you to wonder about that.

kohane and minori grew up in the same group of created hybrids together, theyre friends but were sent to different places so they dont know whats happened to each other since. minori is a goat btw (inspired by her halloween card)

a lot of ans scars are from injuries that snowballed after an incident in a fight that severely broke her tail and led to part of it being amputated. her balance was thrown off for a while after that so she was a little clumsier in fights than normal

akitos scars on the other hand are caused by the fact that hes a reckless fighter. a good fighter, but not much care for the damage he takes in the process. that and improper padding on his collars and muzzle, leaving those spots unable to fully heal from being rubbed against metal for months and when they finally do heal they scarred.

im still sorting things out for sure but tentatively for vbs npcs i have decided on fox ken and yuka (obviously, same as an), tiger taiga (i mean... how could i not go for the pun. and i think it suits him), maned wolf nagi (update march 2024 ive drawn nagi now so this is what has been made canon), raccoon kotaro, caracal arata, and dog souma (sorry to any tatsuya fans, i have not figured out how to include him in the au at all)

vbs all very clingy with each other once they get comfortable together. platonic polysquad ❤️

other characters outside of vbs exist in this au but theyre just not relevant enough to the story for me to include here 👍

the fic outline is like 2.4k words. the first chapter is a couple scenes away from being finished and its about 5k words. it will not be the longest chapter of the fic. this is going to be a long au.

maybe ill do another lore dump another day if i can think of more stuff. well see.

I revisited the mermaid AU but gave it some design changes.

I'll put my thoughts in the read more section in case you want to indulge in my ramblings.

Please know that I did minimal research on this so I doubt both of these critters would even SEE each other in the sea in real life.

Keisuke is a thrasher shark and Takumi is just angel fish that has a panda pattern. I haven't thought of a specific fish for Takumi but just know a lot of my inspirations were all from angel fish. As for Keisuke, I picked a thrasher shark because i was set on giving keisuke a giant and LONG tail. No other shark fit the bill but the thrasher shark. Look at that thing. That tail is stupid. I love it.

So, before i made the decision to make Keisuke a thrasher shark, I did a little research about if a shark eats EVERY fish they see. I wanted to avoid that whole "Bella and Edward" dynamic where Keisuke has to constantly fight back his urges to eat Takumi. Luckily for me, Thrasher sharks and many sharks rely on fishies to clean them so they don't eat them (apparently). So I figured to make Takumi one of the fishes that hang around at the cleaning station waiting for sharks to swim by to get their meal.

I also figured to replace the gas station with the cleaning station. It made sense since the fish would be exposed to various different types of species similar to how in the human realm, they were exposed to many cars because of their occupation.

Again, these are all from my light research and cherry-picking to fit my own universe. There are a lot of plotholes that i will not go back to fill in because this is just an AU.

Also in the process of this, I like the thrasher shark. They are dorky. Might become my new fave shark type.

There are a lot of inid pieces I want to revisit because of my sudden art style change. One day.

Motivation is all babeyyy, regardless of whether it's the fandom favorite or someone completely new.

i think that to follow the rules of the project i should probably write to the creators in private or by sending them an ask (?), but to try to give them more visibility and help them reach new people who maybe aren't familiar with their works yet, i thought i could talk a little about some of my favorites here (not that i have that many followers but you know. also for the two creators who aren't on tumblr i WILL make sure to leave them a nice comment too), so here we go!!!!!

in no particular order:

the entire vice versa web weaving series by @daymork. i tell you i wish i could have all these edits collected in one of those fancy ass art books with a hard cover that cost almost a hundred bucks just so that i could flip through it at any given moment to contemplate the beauty of said edits and cry myself to sleep holding it to my chest as i think about puentalay. i have no idea how jessi did it but every single quote she used for these is so perfect that no matter how many times i reread them they never fail to reduce me to a sobbing mess of a woman who is in dire need of receiving mental health care provided by professionals in an institutionalized setting. my point is. i love them. i love them a lot.

the quote by ocean vuong last twilight edit by @morkofday. i could literally put any of vish’s vice versa edits here because it’s like they’re all specially crafted to deal as much emotional damage as humanly possible to me personally, but in the end i decided to pick this one because, to this day, it’s still my favorite last twilight edit ever made. there's just something about it that stayed with me since i first saw it a whole year ago (im not even kidding when i say i think about it an average of twelve times per day) and even if it was done based on the mock trailer alone, vish was somehow able to perfectly capture the spirit of the show, not just by using that particular quote (which is incredibly spot on like when day and mork were talking about tenderness in episode 4 i thought of this edit right away and had to go punch through a wall to cope) but also because of the colors and the pictures that she chose.

the the man who can't be moved puentalay gifset by @seatawinans. you think episode 11 of vice versa has already reached the pinnacle of life altering emotional devastation and cathartic experience, and then you see this gifset and suddenly you find yourself decaying into subatomic particles to cope, committing grand scale larceny and arson to deal, and doing daily affirmations like 'this is affecting me a normal amount! :)' in front of the mirror every morning to survive. truly i have no words to properly express just how much the 'thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet/and you'll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street' lines over the glasshouse scenes make me sick in the head, it's the parallelism romanticism soulmatism of it all and somehow cassi managed to make it worse (read: better).

the underneath the stars by the cure morkday fanart by twitter user @bleu1te. i honestly love all of bleuité's puentalay and morkday works so much, there's just something so soft and tender in the way this artist draws them that every time i look at their art it gives me the same feeling of safety and comfort that i so deeply associate with these two pairings. i picked this one in particular because i fell in love with it as soon as i saw it, i love the colors, i love the starry sky behind them, i love their expressions, and most of all i love the hand placement. idk how to explain it, but i think the way they're touching just really conveys how much they adore each other.

the enchanted by taylor swift morkday video by twitter user @jimmyseagatitos. you know when someone punches you in the stomach and it hurts so much that you just start laughing hysterically? this is the closest description i can give to try to explain what this video did to me on a psychological emotional spiritual mental and physical level. and because apparently im a masochist i've been rewatching it only like 92649626 times in the span of three days. i also think it's pretty damn genius to end the edit on the 'i'll spend forever wondering if you knew' line of the song because it leaves everything unspoken just what mork never got to say.

this is obviously very far from being a comprehensive list (especially since my memory is pretty bad and my main interests are currently very limited ;;;;), so for the next couple of weeks i will try to reach out to my favorite creators (in private this time, i promise) and give them some love!!!!! and if anyone sees this, please consider doing it too!!!!!

first off, i just want to say that i love your art, you are a huge inspiration to me and i love how expressive your characters are! would you have any tips for someone trying to grow a following from their art? specifically within the furry community ideally. im just not sure where to start

okay i gotta preface this with: i have been doing commissions for over a decade. everything i say here i've been doing since roughly 2014, but my career as an artist didn't really Take Off and become reliable until 2019. success isn't immediate. some artists will grow faster or slower than others, not every tactic is going to apply / work for every artist; and that's okay. just keep pushing yourself and adapting and figuring out what works for You!

i’m putting this under a readmore as it got a bit long. every time someone asks me for advice on professional Anything i always write up a five page essay despite trying to bulletpoint it oof

post on multiple platforms and keep them all updated. i’m putting this one in bold because it is possibly the Most Important thing. we’re all watching twitter sinking over there, and many of my mutuals there were floundering because they hadn’t established themselves on any other social media site. i strongly recommend three or four socials minimum. my main four sites are tumblr, deviantart, twitter and toyhouse. furaffinity is also good. inkblot and artfol are new and i use them frequently as well. if you don’t like posting manually to every site each and every time you post art, Postybirb exists and is what i use to crosspost all my art to most of my socials at once.

avoid venting a lot on main. we all have frustrating days where our art isn’t getting the recognition we hoped, or we’re feeling petty about a controversial topic or the latest drama. it happens! it’s okay! however, many people just don’t like seeing dozens of negative posts on their feed. most people will sympathize, but if your negative vents are constantly clogging their dashboard they’re not gonna stick around.

shamelessly self promote yourself. reblog your own art. retweet it again. repost it. mention your other socials. we live in a world of timezones! when you post art, only a fraction of your audience is going to see it. i recommend reblogging / retweeting one to four individual pieces periodically over the course of a day and change it up each day. you can also repost your own work into photosets and title it “recent commissions” or the something like that.

don’t hide your linktrees and carrds. seriously! the amount of times on twitter i went to try and follow someone on another platform only to find they had no carrd or linktree link,, it is infuriating. put your socials link in your bio or pinned or SOMEWHERE readily at the top of your profile that’s easy to spot.

if you’re offering commissions, make a telegram channel or discord server for your announcements / openings.

post regularly. this one is a lot harder for artists that don’t make a lot of content, but posting even a status update once or twice a day can go a long way - especially if you’re on twitter with that platform’s hideous algorithm. alternatively as i said earlier, just retweet/reblog your work a few times a day and you should be good.

art trends are cool and fun and an easy way to get your work seen by others. see a “draw your sona in this outfit” meme? go, have fun with it. this one’s a bit tricky as timing is everything when it comes to ~trending~ content, so try and draw quick. that said, it’s never outdated to drawover reaction memes with your fursona.

try not to clog your socials with memes and shitposty images. this one is directed at twitter specifically. with twitter moments now gone, your media tab is the last way for people to hope to find your work organically on your profile without having to use the twitter search. they can’t get invested in your work if they can’t find it!

it’s okay to change course if you’re not vibing with where you’re headed. if you want to move onto a new aesthetic - that’s fine! you may lose some followers if they don’t click with your new vibe, but you’ll inevitably gain some new ones.

avoid frequent name changes. so many of the artists i follow have changed their brands / urls over the years that i don’t recognize them anymore.

tag your work properly. on tumblr, the first five tags on the original post are the tags your work will pop up in in the search feature. make those first five tags the Most important ones; example: #furry, #anthro, #art #fursona etc. twitter’s algo seems flip-flop if it likes tags or hates them. if you see a tag trending, repost your art in a photoset with the hashtag in the post [example: if #pokemon is trending, repost some of your pokemon fanart with the hashtag in the post body]. if the tag isn’t trending,,, i’ll be honest it’s a gamble if twitter likes your post or not at that point. i have no advice for that hell algorithm.

hosting raffles or doing a mini art request event [example: “leave a ref and i might draw your oc”] is good for traction while simultaneously giving back to the community + your audience a little!

try and reply to / like comments on your work. it’s not required per se, but it’s good to express gratitude.

engage with other members of the community. comment on other peoples work. like it. retweet it. follow other people. obviously don’t be disingenuous about it, but this is what the professionals call ~networking~

don’t compare yourself to others. this one is one you have got to keep in mind constantly. you’re going to find 17 year olds with huge followings and 30 year olds that are doing professional industry work whose level feels alien and almost out of reach. if you’re not doing as well, don’t let yourself get discouraged. we all gotta start somewhere!

related to the above point: be nice to your followers. venting on main about not having the same audience volume as others can come off as a huge middle finger to the audience you already have.

gaining a following takes time. unless you get a really lucky break, it’s going to take a lot of work and self promotion to build up your brand.

slap your name on everything. i mean it. any art you do - sign it. watermark it. people can and will share art in telegram channels and discord servers, and if the art interests someone they can easily source it back to you if your name is on it.

you can buy adspace. if you’re catering to a furry audience specifically, you can buy adspace on furaffinity pretty easily. inkblot i believe also offers adspace for artists though i haven’t looked too deep into it. this is really a “if you’re okay burning money” situation, as the huge chunkk of internet users have adblockers now and it’s a gamble if people will see or even click on your ad.

just have fun and do your own thing. you can hop on trends and draw art that caters to your audience’s tastes, but don’t forget to draw what YOU want and what YOU’RE about. Draw what makes YOU happy.

Hi hon, I've always loved your blog and advice—and I'd love to have your guidance and thoughts on my issue.

I carry a lot of guilt and shame over making a terrible mistake 5 years ago, which led to the fall of my longest childhood friendship (16yrs at that point). I thought I was able to accept it, but I still have dreams about my friend that reopens the grief I have for our friendship. Today's dream was probably the worst; it featured them being willing to mend our relationship, us interacting like normal, planning to get matching piercings together, and it felt so real, I was so happy.

I came across their social media acc while taking off followers from a personal art account I hope to invest in this year. I was rly tempted to check on their ig reels and YouTube, but knew I shouldn't and decided not to in the end. If me no longer being in their life makes them able to live their happiest and most fulfilling life, I want that for them, I want to be happy for them. Even if it does hurt/make me sad. It wasn't a perfect friendship, but they were my best friend. I want to heal from this as much as possible, since healing completely is prob unrealistic.

I have a group of close friends, ppl who are much more communicative w me, but we all live far from each other so we only interact digitally. I've moved so many times in my life, that digitally is also the best way for me to keep in touch w any irl old friends—it's hard to keep irl friendships strong when you don't see them in person as much as you could in the past.

Tbh I'm kind of a loser. I'm jobless w/ no degree & don't have a driver's license. I know my lack of motivation to get my life together contributes to the lack of opportunities in seeing my friends in person. I am so comfortable in my home environment, even if emotionally/mentally abusive and fear change even if I know it's good for me. I have dreams and yet I'm scared to make steps towards them. That's a whole other thing tho.

I don't know what I need to move past this mourning. I want to stop carrying this sadness with me. I feel it bear such a heavy weight in my chest. I'm at fault and to blame and i feel terrible for being a bad person/friend to that person, even if I know I'm a better/good friend to the ppl currently in my life. Please help me.

Hey sweetie, I sense so much sadness in your message from how you describe your life, to your loss with your friend. I would recommend journalling or releasing your emotions through some form of expression. It needs to be expressed. Write, cry, paint do what ever you need to do to release these emotions because it seems they are completely weighing you down and hacking away at your self esteem. Writing your friend a letter did come to mind if you really want to let them know how you feel and if it would shift some of the pain you've been feeling. I can't recommend forgiveness healing enough! I've wrote about the process here. The journey to loving yourself and being kind to yourself is a process, especially if you are going from a place of feeling low confidence and self belief. But please don't give up on your hopes and dreams. They are within you for a reason. You are not a bad person, you are human and we all do things we wish we didn't, all we can do is show up better. Do our best each day. Listen to those positive affirmations instead of the music that brings you down. Choose the foods that give you energy, instead of foods that give you the food comma so you actually feel motivated to do your best. Read a book that inspires you, watch a documentary about struggle to success. Go help someone. Do a random act of kindness. Plan your tomorrow. Choose to wear something that makes you feel special. Brush your teeth before bed. Light an incense stick. There are so many little things you can do each day to add some light and love into your existence. Lean into the goodness and I promise the heavy weights of the world will start to shift. You'll start to feel a little lighter day by day. But it will be worth it. The light is within you, keep tending to your fire.

“When I think of Tacky’s writing the first things that comes to mind are beautiful prose, gorgeous, evocative imagery and character dynamics that are always so fascinating and deftly written. Even the Night has all of these things and has also been a comfort read that I come back to very often, especially when I need a good cheering up. I love how soft and dreamy the atmosphere is, and despite it only being only 3k words, the universe feels so rich and evocative all the same. I love how subtle and nuanced their characterisation here is- we feel and see so much more as this was a first person POV, and just sensing how strong their yearning for each other in Tacky’s beautiful words are just *chefs kiss*.

My favourite part is their coming together, as it was very sweet and felt very *them*. The gentleness, the vulnerability and deep care and love that they have for each other in that scene is always enough to reduce me into an emotional teary blob (but hey, who am I kidding, that’s essentially me with all of Tacky’s writing!)”

Modern Love (Explicit, 61k) 🎼

Harry Potter, of all people, knows that life isn’t always fair. And no one gets to be happy all of the time. But surely there’s something more—something better—than a rubbish Ministry job, and a lonely old house, and that feeling that everyone out there is doing a better job of living than Harry is. And it really doesn’t seem fair that Draco Malfoy is back in Harry’s life, all of a sudden, and even though he’s wandless, and living with Muggles, and making his mother cry with his lifestyle choices, he’s happy. So what's he doing right, that Harry isn’t?

“Reccing this fic feels a bit like sitting down in front of an abbey full of monks and recommending they check out this hot new book called The Bible. What I mean by that is both that Modern Love is a fundamental religious text in the canon of Drarry (complete with hot priest, thanks very much Tacky) but also that I think most of us have probably read it, and to rec it in the normal sense would be very “do not cite the deep magic to me, witch” vibes. Y’all know. We’ve all inked a page of the illuminated manuscript. Gutenberg is in all of our Twitter circles, and he’s printing honey. So I’m not going to sit here and try to sell you, the reader of this rec, in the year 2022, on The Bible. Instead I’d like to talk a little bit about what this fic meant to me while reading, and what it still makes me feel, months later.

The thing about Modern Love is, reading it made me feel exactly the same way I felt the first time I heard the song Modern Love. I remember sitting in a theatre in Manhattan, way uptown, one of those theatres where everyone else is average age 97 and the snacks are old, easily digestible cookies and paper cups of water. I was seeing Frances Ha, and it was the scene where the titular Frances dances down the street to this song. I’d somehow missed that Bowie song before seeing that movie, and so the audio and visual are now impenetrably melded together in my mind so that every time I hear that song, no matter what context it’s in, I think of someone being so full of emotion and vivacity and so very alive that they can’t just walk down the street—they have to dance. They have to twirl, and throw their hands out, and leap. Reading Modern Love made me feel the same way.

Because you don’t just read a Tacky fic. I mean, fundamentally, if you want to be literal about it, of course you do. But the experience of reading a Tacky story is not as simple as being carried from one word to the next until a sentence is complete, and then a second sentence, and a third, until you have a paragraph. Reading Tacky’s words, you’re compelled to run, to jump, to twist and turn and leap and grin and devour. I keep starting this next sentence as “And watching Modern Love…” because it doesn’t feel like I read it. It feels like I watched it. It feels like I lived it, deep inside of me, and carry it with me wherever I go.

Watching/reading Modern Love… you’re in London with our lads. You’re finding a purpose, you’re discovering meaning, you’re experiencing what it is to be alive, the splendor of making mistakes and looking foolish and falling in love. 1. What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?

To be compassionate of one another. We're all different for so many reasons but we're more alike than you might think and at the end of the day we're all people doing our best and trying to get by. It's important to remember that and to know that we're all dealing with our own things along the way.

I chose it because it truly saddens me how much we as people hold each other back due to in-fighting and othering one another. I wanted a way to examine that and hopefully communicate to anyone reading AASOAF how harmful something like that is. It's no coincidence that the art and humanities have all but come to a standstill in Oepus and that's just part of it...

In short, be kind to your fellow man, dammit.

2. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?

Lizards for sure haha. But a lot of my inspiration comes from nature, human history, music, movies, and foley design! Also, I have an intense curiosity about all sorts of different things so Google deep dives are very inspiring!

3. What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person?

My MCs are trying to find their places in the world. They all kind of get confronted with some pretty harsh truths about their respective situations and are kind of forced to decide if they're going to keep going down their current path or if they are going to do something to change it.

As far as what I'm trying to achieve, I think I really want to drive the point that familiar =/= safe or "good". It can, but not always. I also really want to demonstrate that no matter who you are or where you come from, introspection, questioning the world around you, and deriving meaning to 'life and purpose', are something we should all engage in. I sincerely hope that it gives my readers the courage to do those things for themselves and grow into the versions of themselves I know they can be!

4. How many chapters is your story going to have?

As many as it takes.

5. Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

Original! AASOAF 3 will join AASOAF 1 & 2 on Wattpad when it's all finished! I have considered moving platforms recently but I'm not sure where yet.

6. When and why did you start writing?

My writing journey kind of comes in two parts. I started writing back when I was a teenager but only did it for about a year. I can't really remember why I stopped and I definitely don't have anything from that time, mostly because I didn't think to save it. I really wish I had though.

After that, I didn't get back into writing until late 2019 at the encouragement of my therapist that I journal my feelings. So I did that, but then somewhere along the way I remembered how much I liked stories and I started writing for fun!

7. Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of Writeblr? What other writers of Tumblr do you follow?

Just write, bro. Seriously. I think people get bogged down in a deluge of advice, technique, the "right" way to do things, etc, etc that they quite literally lose the plot. They forget why they started writing in the first place or build it up to be this thing they're afraid to engage with or even forget that under all of that they are just trying to tell a story. SO TELL IT. Stop putting up imaginary walls for yourself dude. WRITE. THE. DAMN. THING. You're not going to nail it on the first try, THAT'S FINE (and kind of the point, hello editing!) and you will get better over time. It's like jumping into a swimming pool and getting upset when you discover that you're not an Olympic level swimmer. Give yourself some grace and write the damn thing.

As far as other writers, I follow so many lovely peeps that this post would be longer than a CVS receipt if I listed them all LOL so instead, have some of my darling moots who have made being on this little corner of Tumblr that much sweeter 💙

20 questions for fic writers!

Ooo, this look fun! Thanks for the tags, @lumosatnight (x) and @anaxandria-writes (x) ! This is going to be interesting since I've only started writing again a few years ago, so I'll do what I can to make this writing-centric. This is also probably going to be rambly AF, so you've been warned. And onwards!

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

118 (39 are fics, and the rest is all art). That number will change because it's spooky season, and there are definitely some fun things being posted for that very soon.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

91,266, but if you exclude a couple of collabs where I only provided art, then it's down to 68,276. I have a few works that are hidden and haven't been "officially" released yet because these are the WIP text fics I've talked about before, and they need more TLC!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

You know what's funny? I had to take a break from answering for quite a while, and I just started replying back to comments to most recent works yesterday. So, progress! I really do want to show some appreciation to folks who have read and viewed my work, especially across multiple fandoms and ships over the last couple of months. The multi-fandom life is a tricky one to balance, but I'm hoping I can reply to a batch here or there when I have a chance to eventually get caught up with the backlog. If I haven't replied back yet, please note that I have read your lovely comment, but I just haven't had a chance to string together some words to say thank you! I cherish each and every comment I get, especially if I've made someone smile or their day a little brighter with my creations.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I've actually been in a whumpy phase lately, but I posted up The Walls Came Crashing Down (TW: Sterek, T, 4,242 words) maybe a couple of weeks ago because it's a Bloody Mary fic, and there was a near-death experience included. There's also so many terrible feels, crying and trauma after that happens. It's hopeful but yeah. I've been wanting make something like this for a long time, so I'm glad I finally did because it was such a fun and challenging fic to write (while keeping it at that exact word count :P).

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Navy and Gold (HP: Perciver, G, 900 words) for Cruel Summer Fic fest, because I was given a song that had a lot of fluffy family vibes, and that's usually what I don't write? But I turned it into a wedding ficlet, and I think I surprised myself because it came out really well. Especially in such few words!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I've gotten some weird comments on both fic and art. More of the kind where someone wanted or expected a certain thing, or they were questioning that something was missing. Anyway, some friends have defended my honour or else tell me that those commenters weren't worth it, so I'm glad to have that kind of support!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Once upon a time I did not write PWPs. Ever since I came out of writing hibernation, PWPs have definitely slipped in. That's how I actually started writing more when I challenged myself to write drabbles for a smut workshop for Kinkuary. Now, I love writing sexy and kinky microfics and drabbles because they're short, quick and punchy. I've recently graduated to writing a couple of one shots (and heyyy, I'm actually working on a couple for Kinktober as we speak ;D). Kinkuary and Kinktober are usually my inspirations to get things written out anyway, but I'm open to other challenges too. There's a reason why A Study in Kink exists as an HP fic and art series. At this rate, I may need to make a new series for Sterek Sexy Stories. The amount of Sterek smut ideas I have kicking around in WIPs rn is kinda insane. But also, porn with feelings. <333

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not in the traditional sense. The most I've done is add in fandom references into a fic. So for Teen Wolf, I've been adding in little elements from Supernatural, especially if I want to bring a certain type of lore or big bad into the scene. But that's it.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Thankfully, I haven't. Then again, I've only written short things these past few years (and I'm more concerned about art theft, considering how much of my art is out in the world).

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, I have not!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes, I have! @crazybutgood and I got to know each other when we were paired up last year for the Owlery Exchange: To Days to Come and wrote I Just Want You To Know (Drarry, T, 3.5k) together. Epistolary fics are awesome btw! My Harry had a lot of fun bantering and bonding with her Draco, and I love how we didn't even know we were writing to each other until partners were revealed, and it was time for betaing and editing. That's how we became fast friends, which was totally meant to be! :D

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

That's just...I like a lot of ships, okay? I'm a multi-shipper and a multi-fandomer, so that's a tough question!! Hang on tight...this is going to be a long ass explanation. I'm not going to rank them, but I'll list three ships that have impacted my life in a huge way. I'll start with Sterek, because I've only gotten to know them for a little over a year. But Sterek was a blessing to discover at such a shitty time. Literally one year ago, I felt burnt out, like I was losing my muse, and I was recovering from COVID. Everything in RL kind of sucked. But when I got curious and started reading Sterek fics late one night, I was sold. Sterek helped me pause and get to know myself again as a creator, reader and a human. I really needed that, so the timing couldn't have been any better. I latched on to Sterek quickly and tightly because I see some of Stiles' and Derek's traits in me. They're also complicated and deserve Nice Things, and I can relate so, so much. That's why it's been easy to make art and fic for them. Their potential is endless because Sterek made my love for supernatural and spooky things deeper. Every time I write or draw for them, I can do it with ease and clarity. Everything just comes together and works. And it's so satisfying! Perciver is a rare pair I owe so much to. They're the ship that gave me the confidence to write again and they changed the way I currently draw. I think drawing Percy and Oliver helped me understand them as characters, and that translated into writing because I already had visuals. I know them in and out, and I made the fic series, Where do we go from here? because I believed in them. I wanted to share stories that haven't been told yet, but I wanted them to be real. And the fact I've figured out how to bring Perciver to life through art and fic has an amazing journey. They've given me the practice I needed to improve my crafts. It's because of Perciver that I've become a better artist and writer because I finally found my groove. And gosh, it's nice to have a well-established style. I will love these boys forever because they may be opposites but gods, do they go so well together. They get each other, they're each other's rocks, and it's beautiful. Of course, Drarry was my first ship I fell in love with. I still love them to pieces, and it's because of these two that I learned how to write and draw in the first place. I've been able to make some amazing friendships with other folks because of these two, and I cherish that a lot. Also, Drarry was why I entered fandom and the fest scene, and why I've stuck around for so long. What the creators in this community have made year after year is immaculate. And all the fics I've binged over the years got me through some of the hardest times of my life, especially when I was dealing with family issues, school and just growing up. I cannot imagine what life would have been like without Drarry, tbh. I think of Drarry as two sides of the same coin, and their banter and their snark and their complexities make it so they learn to understand each other. It's inevitable why they're drawn and will always be drawn to each other.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't want to say never, but more like when. I've mentioned way back in other posts that there are 2 text fics WIPs that have been kicking around, but since I have sooo much I need to rewrite and recode for each one, I have no idea when I'll have time? One of them is slotted to be a 50k Sterek fic with texting, IG messages and a scrolling playlist and I have half of it written out. Let me tell ya, coding alone takes more time than the writing. The other fic is a sequel to the above fic and has holidays vibes, and it still has the same coding setup, so yeah. I'll figure it out one day, I guess.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue is my fav and something I write out first because it shapes how the fic will read. It's how I develop voices, snark, banter and whatever else, and then I'll fill in the gaps with narrative, description and all that jazz. That's also how I end up getting the best ideas. The dialogue ends being my prompt to move the story along. I'm also a thorough researcher and like to check my facts before writing in little details. Just so I can have some perspective and so I have an idea how I want to explain something from a character's PoV. Also, it's super helpful to drop in little Easter eggs to shape things up and give a scene some context. Facts are fun. And I'm a nerd, but we all knew that. XD I've definitely gotten way better at showing vs. telling once I started writing again. I try to go for smooth or punchy if I can. It comes down to a lot of things like dialogue, selecting certain verbs and descriptors to explain a person's narrative (like what's going on in their mind), how those thoughts are broken up in multiple sentences and how those are punctuated. Those are the things that create beats and rhythms that keep the story going. And since I'm creative who also loves music and dancing, I'm all for that. I actually think I'm wired to think this way, so that's not a bad thing!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Extensive world building and making big plots that need a lot of ends tied up. I used to write longer fics that had all of this, and while I still have copies of these (not published on AO3 for reasons), they're not strong. Rereading things now, these stories could use improvements. It's easy to try to jam everything in one go, but that needs to be done strategically. And you know, sometime less is more. I also don't have a lot of patience to go crazy with intricate outlines (since I'm more of a pantser than a planner), and I've found that writing something that's super detailed ends up boxing me into a corner or else it's like dragging teeth to finish the thing. I think this is definitely related to my writing style having changed over time, which is not a bad thing! I just can't write like that anymore.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Yessss. I've done that with Love me like that! I also happen to know Scottish Gaelic, so I was able to drop words in pretty easily. I love the cultural sense another language adds to a fic because it shows more dimensions than just describing what someone looks like, where they're from, etc. I also like using a few words vs a long sentence. Names, or little sayings that hint at traditions or history are just nice touches. So if I do know a language and I know I can add in some words in correctly, I most certainly will!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter, specifically for Drarry (all of my older stuff is on LJ)

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Probably Feel You Breathing [TW: Sterek, E, 8.4k] because it was my 3rd attempt in writing a text fic, which ended up being a success. It's 100% texting, something I totally made for myself, but I'm really proud of it because I had a chance to write from alternating PoVs. Also, this somehow turned into porn with plot and feelings and had some minor world building included based on texts alone. I didn't think I could accomplish that, but I did!

BACC RULES Hello friends! In celebration of 100 posts here on tumblr, I decided to bring you one more thing that no one asked for and I'm going to do it anyway: My ruleset for my build a city challenge (BACC) in Valeree! You can find many rules on the internet and mine are very inspired by @pleasantsims and @melsie-sims with some changes since I play TS4 and they play TS2. If you have no idea what BACC is, in an extremely brief way, the goal of this challenge is to start with a completely blank neighborhood and to create an entire “Sim City.” Please note, rules may be added, removed or modified at any point in time. My main focus is getting to know my sims and telling a good story.

STARTING OUT

Start with however many played sims you want. I really like the unforeseen so I used a die to determine how many founders Valeree would have. I advise something between 3 and 8, because at first, everyone will live on the same lot, "The Founders' house". Later in the game, when the founders move into their own homes, all of my sims will be played rotationally. ALL of them!

They're in the middle of nowhere, so service sims such as maids, police officers, firefighters and delivery sims are locked at the start of the game.

I gave them enough money to buy a lot and withdrew all the money before starting the game. My founders started this journey with no simoleons. At this stage of the game, they made simoleons by fishing, planting, searching for treasure, building at the woodworking table, and painting on canvas. Here you need to be strategic, when the first simoleons arrive, what to do with it? Buy a tent? A barbecue? Or a woodworking table and easel where sims can make even more money?

In the beginning, in the middle of nowhere, of course they don't have electricity, so the off the grid trait is mandatory on all lots until electricity is unlocked. I have specific rules for electricity even after it's unlocked in Valeree. You can read a little more about it by clicking here, but to summarize, a particularly poor neighborhood in Valeree will continue to have the off-the-grid trait even after the electricity is unlocked.

SETTINGS

I play with the four seasons, starting with winter. Each season lasts for 14 days. For each season I have some specific holidays: -WINTER Founders' Day: a national holiday where children don't have school and adults don't work. A day to light a fire, roast marshmalows, tell new generations about Valeree's story and enjoy the arts at the museum. Watcher's Day: a national holiday where children don't have school and adults don't work. A day to decorate the house, make big meals and invite the family to celebrate. New year's Day: National holiday where children don't have school and adults don't work. A day to make new resolutions, gather friends and celebrate the beginning of a new year.

-SPRING

Chocolate' Day: Commemorative date but not a national holiday, children go to school and adults work. A day to be surrounded by children looking for chocolate eggs hidden around the house.

Flower' Day: Commemorative date but not a national holiday, children go to school and adults work. A day to gift someone you love and call a crush on a date.

-SUMMER

Summer recess: It takes place on all weekdays of the summer, when children don't go to school and adults don't work. A great opportunity to enjoy the sun, travel and discover a new hobby.

-FALL

Harvest' Day: National holiday where children don't have school and adults don't work. A day to prepare a big meal, invite the family and prepare for the winter.

Ancestors' Day: Commemorative date but not a national holiday, children go to school and adults work. A day to remember all those who have died, children collecting treats from other people's homes and telling scary stories.

SIMS

My sims have a custom lifespan. Pregnancy: 14 days Baby: 14 days Infant: 28 days Toddler: 42 days days Child: 56 days Teen: 56 days Young Adult: 168 days Adult: 168 days Elderly: 168 days+

It seems like a long time, but since I play in rotations, it gives me time to get to know all the sims at all stages of their lives. In other words, it means that a child and a teenager live a whole year sim(the four seasons) and a young adult and an adult live three whole years sim.

ROTATIONS

I play each household from Sunday 4 am to Wednesday 4 am and Wednesday 4 am to Sunday 4 am.

FAVORITE COLORS

I assign each of my Sims a favorite color to help me with clothing choices and decorating their rooms/homes. I choose the color based on whatever clothing color they’re wearing when they age up. In my eyes, they chose the color themselves so it must be their favorite.

Each Sim’s favorite color changes at each life stage (unless they choose the same one again by wearing the same color as the last age up). I do not assign favorite colors for babies. Sims get their first favorite color when aging up to a toddlers.

NAMING CONVENTIONS

I name newly born Sims based on which letter of the alphabet currently has the fewest living Sims with a first name beginning with that letter.

I begin with the letter A and go through the alphabet. If there are living Sims with names that begin with the letter A, I move to letter B, etc. until I come to the next letter of the alphabet that does not correspond to the name of a current living Sim. In the rare case where all letters are taken, I will start over and find the first letter with the fewest living Sims.

ADOPTION

Sims who try for baby three times and are unsuccessful are considered infertile and eligible to adopt. Sims may only adopt if there are eligible children in the neighborhood that have been put up for adoption or if they find a lost children in the woods (adopt by the phone).

Eligible Sims may adopt (in order of priority): -Unwanted babies -Children in the woods

UNWANTED BABIES

When an unmarried female Sim gets pregnant, I roll a number between 1-100. If she wanted to have a baby and the number is under 70, she will keep the baby and raise it herself. If she is neutral about having a baby and and the nunmer is under 50 she will also keep the baby and raise it herself. If she don't wanna a baby and the number is under 20 she will, again, keep the baby and raise it herself. If the number is over all the nunmber above (according to each situation)the baby is unwanted and are put up for adoption upon birth. Married Sims always keep their babies and attempt to raise them.

FINANCES

All Sims must pay taxes on the last day I play at them house. On the first day at them house, I add up the value of the lot + the amount of money they have. I call this number "net worth". A % of their household funds is deducted and added to the community pool. Sims must pay:

-10% of their household funds. -12% of their household funds if they are business owners. -7% of their household funds if the household consists only of retired sims. -5% if their household funds exceed 100,000 simoleons.

This money is transferred to the lot where the mayor/king lives and he will decide what to do with this money. Improvements for the community? Build a fancy house?

SCHOOL

Elementary Schools are unlocked after at least 4 baby births, a Sim be in the education career, and paying 20,000 to build the building.

High school is locked after unlocking elementary schools + building Copperdele High School.

NEW WORLDS

A new world is unlocked after a fee of 100,000 simoleons is spent to build a means of transport that will take you to that new world, the same principle applies to vacation destinations.

FREELANCE JOBS

It is unlocked for all Sims after electricity is unlocked.

Computer Experts: In addition to electricity, to access this job the Sim must have reached level 5 of the programming skill.

Electrified Artists: In addition to electricity, to access this job the Sim must have reached level 5 in the painting skill.

Fighting Words: In addition to electricity, to access this job the Sim must have reached level 5 of the written skill.

SIMply Crafted: In addition to electricity, to access this job the Sim must have reached level 5 in one of the skills between the carpentry table, juice Fizzer or candle Maker.

Tomorrow's Style: In addition to electricity, to access this job the Sim must have reached level 5 in the photography skill. PART-TIME JOBS

Babysitter: Unlocked for Teen Sim when you have a newborn, toddler or child in the world.

Barista: Unlocked for Teen Sim when owning a restaurant in the world.

Fast Food Employee: Unlocked for Teen Sim when owning a restaurant in the world.

Manual Laborer: Unlocked for Teen Sim when any Sim in the world is level 10 in the carpentry table or any Sim in the world is in the Engineer or Civil Designer career.

Retail Employee: Unlocked for all Sims when owning a playable Sim-generated store.

Diver: Unlocked for all Sims when a world with a beach is unlocked

Fisherman: Unlocked for all Sims who reach level 10 in Fishing.

Lifeguard: Unlocked for all Sims when a world with a beach is unlocked.

Simfluencer: Unlocked after electricity is unlocked, only available to the Queen when any Sim reaches Entrepreneurship level 5.

Video Game Streamer: Unlocked for all Sims who reach level 10 in video games.

CAREERS

Will update as my game progresses. The only career available once you start the game is POLITICAL CAREER only for the mayor/king. All other Sims need to find another ways to get money. When a Sim reaches the top of the career, that specific branch is available to all Sims worldwide.

Civil Designer: It is unlocked for the Sim who reaches level 10 in the Carpentry Table. Civil Designer Career Levels and Civic Planner Branch are unlocked for Sims who reach level 8 in the logic skill. x Career level where only one Sim can have that job in the neighborhood: Municipal Engineer, City Master Planner, Expert Fabricator and Master Inventor

Education: It is unlocked for a Sim after 4 babies are born. Administrator Branch is unlocked when a Sim reaches the top of the Professor Branch. Professor Branch is unlocked for Sims who enter the Education career. x Career level where only one Sim can have that job in the neighborhood: Department Head, Lead Lecturer, Master Educator, Director of Academics, Vice-Chancellor and Head Chancellor

Engineer: It is unlocked for the Sim who reach level 10 at the carpentry table. Computer Engineer branch is unlocked for Sim who completes 3 freelance jobs for the agency Computer Experts. Mechanical Engineer branch is unlocked for Sim who reach level 8 in robotics. x Career level where only one Sim can have that job in the neighborhood: Mechanical Genius and Master of Machines

Politician: It is unlocked for City Mayor/King. Politician branch is unlocked for City Mayor/King. Charity Organizer branch will be unlocked when City Mayor/King reaches the top of Politician branch. In my game, politician career (politician branch) is only allowed for the next mayor/king and Charity Organizer Branch is only allowed for the family members of the mayor/king. x Career level where only one Sim can have that job in the neighborhood: Councilperson, Representative, Elder Statesperson, National Leader, Fundraising Specialist, Non-Profit Director, Leader of the Cause and Charity Icon.

Painter: It is unlocked for the Sim who completes eight freelance jobs for the electrified artists agency. Master of the Real Branch and Patron of the Arts Branch are unlocked for the Sim that unlocks the Painter career. x Career level where only one Sim can have that job in the neighborhood: Master of the Real and Patron of the Arts
