It takes time
Nothing starts the way it finishes.
Nothing that matters, anyway.
The important things in life start off unimpressive, unnoticed, unimportant. And then slowly grow and change – almost imperceptibly at times.
We love the idea of the quick fix, the flash of inspiration, the overnight success.
But reality is more like the old quote (one that’s been attributed to Jeff Bezos, Tom Clancy, and a dozen other people) – “overnight success takes about 10 years.” At least.
That’s how life really works. And that’s the principle that Jesus is showing us in today’s Gospel.
It’s a truth that’s easy to see. And hard to live with.
Especially when it comes to the things that really matter to us. Whether we’re trying to improve our health, battle an addiction, build a relationship, get out of debt, or just trying to be better human beings.
It’s not going to happen overnight. It takes time.
And that gets frustrating. Because it’s more than just slow going.
For most of us, it’s not a straight line, a steady rise over time. More like two steps forward-one step back. On a good day.
The point of Jesus’ parables about the mustard seed and the yeast? That God knows this about us.
God knows that we’re not always going to get it right. That sometimes we get stuck. Sometimes we head off in the wrong direction.
And even if we are headed in the right direction, sometimes it looks like nothing is happening.
God knows this about us. All of it.
But there’s something that you and I need to know about God.
God loves you enough to wait for you. And God loves you too much to let you to struggle alone.
It’s why God will always help you pick up the pieces and try again. If you’ll let Him.
If you’ve ever wondered why the Sacrament of Reconciliation is infinitely repeatable, this is why.
Even if you’ve lost track of it all. Even if it looks like nothing will ever change. Even if you’ve given up – on you, on God, or both.
God is calling you to start again. With Him.
Because God knows that the important things in life start off unimpressive, unnoticed, unimportant.
And God loves you too much to give up on you.

A Field Is Sown With Good And Bad Seed: At Harvest The Weeds Will Be Burned
24 He put-before them another parable, saying, “The kingdom of the heavens became-like a man having sown good seed in his field. 25 But during the men’s sleeping, his enemy came and re-sowed darnel between the wheat, and went away. 26 Now when the grass budded and produced fruit, then the darnel appeared also. 27 And having come to him, the slaves of the house-master said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Then from where does it have the darnel?’ 28 And the one said to them, ‘A hostile man did this’. And the slaves say to him, ‘Then do you want us, having gone, to collect them?’ 29 But the one says, ‘No, that while collecting the darnel, you may not perhaps uproot the wheat together with them. 30 Permit both to grow together until the harvest. And at the time of the harvest I will say to the harvesters, “Collect first the darnel, and bind them into bundles so-as to burn them up. But gather the wheat into my barn”.
The Mustard Seed: God’s Kingdom Will Start Very Small And Grow Very Large
31 He put-before them another parable, saying, “The kingdom of the heavens is like a seed of a mustard-plant, which having taken, a man sowed in his field— 32 which is smaller than all the seeds, but when it grows is larger than the garden-plants. And it becomes a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and are nesting in its branches”.
Like Leaven In Bread, God’s Kingdom Will Permeate The World
33 He spoke another parable to them, “The kingdom of the heavens is like leaven, which having taken, a woman concealed into three measures of wheat-flour until which time the whole thing was leavened”.
Jesus Spoke In Parables In Fulfillment of Psalm 78:2
34 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowds in parables. And He was speaking nothing to them apart from a parable, 35 so that the thing might be fulfilled having been spoken through the prophet saying “I will open My mouth in parables. I will utter things having been hidden since the foundation of the world” [Ps 78:2].
Jesus Teaches His Disciples Using Parables
36 Then, having left the crowds, He went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Make-clear to us the parable of the darnel of the field”. 37 And the One, having responded, said—
Jesus Explains The Parable of The Good And Bad Seed Sown In The Field
“The one sowing the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 And the field is the world. And the good seed— these are the sons of the kingdom. And the darnel are the sons of the evil one. 39 And the enemy having sown them is the devil. And the harvest is the conclusion of the age. And the harvesters are angels. 40 Therefore, just as the darnel is collected and burned up with fire, so it will be at the conclusion of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will collect out of His kingdom all the causes-of-falling and the ones doing lawlessness. 42 And they will throw them into the furnace of fire. In that place, there will be the weeping and the grinding of teeth. 43 Then the righteous ones will shine-forth like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let the one having ears, hear. — Matthew 13:24-43 | Disciples’ Literal New Testament (DLNT) Disciples' Literal New Testament: Serving Modern Disciples by More Fully Reflecting the Writing Style of the Ancient Disciples, Copyright © 2011 Michael J. Quote
When it comes to doing something about what is wrong in the world, Jesus is best known for his fondness for the minute, the invisible, the quiet, the slow – yeast, salt, seeds, light. And manure.

"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed. It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the 'birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.'"

Faith in theory and faith in practice
The smallest faith (mustard seed) still works by love; so just do it!
The Christian life begins with faith, continues in faith, and culminates in faith as we meet Our Maker. Faith is a particularly important principle in the Bible. Faith is where the promises and plans of God are brought into reality in the lives of His people. Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6)
A. Ephesians 2:8-9, We are saved by faith.
B. Rom. 1:17, We live by faith.
C. Rom. 4:13, We receive righteousness by faith.
D. Rom. 5:1, We are justified in Christ by faith
E. Rom. 5:2, We have access to God's grace by faith.
F. 2 Cor. 1:24, We stand firm in our belief by faith.
G. Gal. 3:14, We receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.
H. 1 Tim. 1:4, We do God's work by faith.
I. Gal. 5:5, We wait for the return of Christ by faith.
Indeed, faith is vital to the life of every believer. Amen
Definition: Faith at an operational level is a simply a belief or trust in God and that if you feel he is calling you to do something then just do it.
The classic biblical definition of faith is found in
Hebrews 11 (whole chapter on faith) :
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible…
Some years ago I had an interesting conversation with a friend who told me about a new book written by Annette Capps called 'quantum faith’ the book is available free on the internet as a .pdf file.
The author had been doing a course in quantum physics and soon began to realise that the laws of quantum physics (which baffle many conventional physicists because subatomic particles e.g. quarks) do not obey the normal Newtonian laws of physics (such as the law of gravity).
In the field of quantum physics it is thought that sub-atomic particles are surprisingly influenced by the person observing them or interacting in some way with them.
We know from Hebrews 11 above that God created the whole Cosmos by speaking it into existence.
This is a difficult concept for most of us to grasp.
How can someone’s words have a creative power?
Conventional physics cannot explain how this might work but however when we come into the realm of quantum physics then is a whole different ballgame.
If sub-atomic particles can truly be influenced by those observing, then how much more would God’s word when spoken to them be likely to produce effects within and between them?
Of course God Himself would have created those sub-atomic particles in the first place.
How did Jesus walk on the water when conventional physics says He should have sunk under the water? So some other law was at play here, the law of faith. Jesus walked on the Word of God.
The law of faith can transcend the law of gravity.
Faith to bless and faith to curse
Mark 11:20 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”
22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
When was the last time you prayed something into or out of existence?
What fruitless tree in your life needs cursed in faith?
What mountain in your life needs removed and cast into the sea? We need to act on our beliefs in faith.
Matthew 17:18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
The normal physical laws of the universe can be overcome by the power of faith. If you think about it each act of faith has some sort of mechanism whereby the physical world is acted upon by the spiritual world.
Interestingly when Jesus told the disciples they only needed a mustard seed of faith, he was using the best-known example of something small in those days. Today he might say faith, as the size of a quark (sub-atomic particle)! [1]
Anyway whether we understand how faith works at a deep level there is nothing to stop us putting it into practice in everyday life.
If God has told you to do something, simply be obedient to it.
If you are not sure and take wise counsel from Christians, you trust.
When was the last time you believed, you were going to receive something from God?
Matthew 9:20 And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. 21 For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” 22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her, He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever and if we reach out and touch Him in faith today, He is willing and able to let power flow from Him to you.
Many people were pressing around Jesus and unintentionally touching Him, but we need to intentionally touch the hem of His garment believing that virtue or power will flow into our situation.
Faith without works is dead and so we must make our faith in God work to bring in His Kingdom and to bring God’s love down onto the streets of our cities, towns, and villages.
Our God-given faith is a mighty weapon to honour God with.
Faith has power to bless, to curse and to move mountains.
Let us honour our Abba Father by using our faith in His name and for His kingdom and glory.
Amen

Acceptance and commitment, Truth
Tumblr media
Reflecting more on a powerful reframe I can really get behind. The course and my growing belief in it is showing me purpose and potential, and that it is good and right to be where I am now.
Seeking to free myself from my long term addiction, now while keeping this secondary to working on the course. I must hold off drinking, paradoxically, to maintain focus. Finding something greater to commit to. Acceptance and commitment is my present action and goal... Accepting that where my issues may take an unusual and isolating form from others, they really have the same content. Committing in perception to identifying with the solution.
We are all of the spirit, that mustard seed of faith and willingness that can move mountains if we can but identify it. This is a challenging life.

Vampire Protection Spell (2)
Some vampires allegedly prefer infants and children. To protect them, place the following in a small bag: a safety pin, mustard seeds, rosemary, and an image of San Cipriano. Tie this around the child’s waist.

The Parable of the Weeds
Tumblr media
24 He presented another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while people were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. 26 When the plants sprouted and produced heads of grain, the weeds also appeared. 27 The servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where did the weeds come from?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy did this.’ The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and gather up the weeds?’ 29 ‘No,’ he answered, ‘because when you gather up the weeds, you might pull up the wheat along with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “First, gather up the weeds, bind them in bundles, and burn them. Then, gather the wheat into my barn.”’”
Mustard Seed and Yeast
31 He presented another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32 It is one of the smallest of seeds. But when it grows, it is larger than the other plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
33 He spoke another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast, which a woman took and mixed into a bushel of flour until the whole batch was leavened.”
34 Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds. He did not speak to them without telling a parable. 35 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.
Jesus Explains the Parable of the Weeds
36 Then Jesus sent the people away and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
37 He answered them, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world. The good seeds are the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the Evil One. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the world. The reapers are angels. 40 Therefore, just as the weeds are gathered up and burned with fire, so it will be at the end of the world. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will pull out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and those who continue to break the law. 42 The angels will throw them into the fiery furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.
