I have one question about this. So obviously B, Peni, Pavitr, and Margo probably still have their watches, and Gwen has the one Hobie gave her, but what about the others?

can we talk about how Across the Spiderverse challenges the notion of what it means to be Spider-man meta-textually, as well as in-universe? In the film itself (on a grounded level), Miles is challenging the notion of sacrifice on a personal level because he has stakes in the game - his father is involved. That gives him, and us as an extension, personal investment in what this means for his character. And then there’s the layer of what this means for spider-man as a character historically. Spider-man’s tagline is literally ‘with great power comes great responsibility’, the job comes with sacrifice. The biggest criticism fans had of mcu spider-man is that he didn’t sacrifice enough. Peter Parker is known as the man who is Alone and who Suffers. Across the spiderverse challenges the banality of sorrow and the complacency of the sacrifice of some for the good of the world. It endorses a third option and encourages resistance. It doesn’t say that “the job doesn’t come with sacrifice” because it does. It says that there are some things not worth sacrificing. If you sacrifice and neglect your microcosm, the macrocosm is prevented from collapsing but at what cost?

In philosophy, theres a thought experiment called the Happiness Machine. Within the thought experiment, a person is given the chance to step into this perfect machine, which does the following things:

Analyzes the person in it, in order to perfectly understand what would make them most happy.

Simulates, perfectly, that life which would make the person the most happy

There is no way for the person inside the machine to know that what they're experiencing isn't real. The person believes that they really are living through all the things that the machine simulates. However, the person never gets the leave the machine. They will spend the rest of their life in the happiness machine, as happy as they ever could dream of being, fully convinced they're living through it.

I fully believe that Steve Rogers chose to "step into the happiness machine" by time traveling back.

And I wonder whether, IF Peter did get in the happiness machine, would he be Spider-Man? IF Tony got in, would he have ever been Iron Man?

Would Peter and Tony have known each other, in the happiest version of their story?

"pete!" you called over to him, waving from your locker. as soon as he spotted you, his face softened and a wide grin spread on his lips.

"hi baby," he greeted as he made his way over to you, immediately reaching you to press a kiss onto the side of your head.

you pouted, asking quietly, "can i get another one?"

your boyfriend laughed softly. "so polite," he murmured, leaning down to kiss you, on the lips this time, and you sighed softly as he cupped your face in his warm palms. "i missed you," he said, smiling against your mouth.

after almost a year of dating, peter could still make your cheeks turn bright red. you blushed, suddenly shy as you replied, "i missed you too."

he wrapped an arm around your waist as you both started to walk out of the school, talking about nonsense that happened in different classes, and he burst out laughing when you mentioned how you gave flash so much shit in class for being such an asshole.

once he caught his breath, he mumbled a soft "that's my girl."

fighting back another blush, you asked, "how was your day? anything interesting happen?"

peter paused for a second, before saying, "we have a new photography project coming up." he hesitated, but you coaxed him into telling you more, big brown eyes wide and curious. "we have to choose a subject."

"you got any ideas?" you questioned.

he nodded, a serious look on his face. "you."

"huh?" your playful look turned confused, and you turned to face your boyfriend, stopping abruptly. "what do you mean?"

sensing your mood, peter stopped too, taking the moment to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear. "you're my muse for everything, baby. and i want you to be the subject for my project. i wanna show the world how beautiful you are." he hesitated, then added, "if you're okay with it, of course."

"are you kidding?" you flung your arms around his shoulders, pressing your head into his sweater. "i'd love to, pete."

he beamed at your response, peppering kisses all over you once you pulled away. "thank you."

"so," you said as you reached for his hand, interlocking your fingers and squeezing them tightly. "when do we start?"

I'll be updating my blog with more posts tomorrow, so for now, let's celebrate No Way Home's two-year anniversary with a funny story from opening night in 2021.

I think like most people in the DS fan community, I was psyched to learn the good doctor would be in the third Spidey film (I'm pretty sure they hadn't dropped the title yet att). And I was even more psyched when we started getting more Doctor Strange projects (both in the comics and What If...?) in the second half of 2021.

In fact, I was so hyped to see my boy that it didn't occur to me until, as I was walking into the theatre with my friends that most of the people in the theatre...were there because they're either Spider-man fans, MCU fans in general, or they wanted to see all three cinematic spider-men team-up (a.k.a. the worst guarded secret for a big budget film ever!)...

What can I say? I can be a little dense sometimes. 😅

It did lead to this running joke (with myself) for whenever I talk about and/or watch No Way Home, though;

"Oh crap! Most of these people are here because they're Spidey fans, aren't they!? Uh...I see nothing! I see nothing! Don't mind me folks! I'm just here for the Dilf Sorcerer! And I will be out of your hair! Ha ha ha!...Please don't judge me! 😅"

I’m in love with the fact that Gwen looks absolutely devastated post-Guggenheim assemble where she successfully saves the people in the art museum and receives a nod of affirmation from Jess. The victory and the validation isn’t on her mind. I love the drums disappearing and leaving a ringing trill of her synth before she collapses on the floor in pain and exhaustion.

The drums are associated with intense focus and intense emotional turmoil. This is set up by the opening scene where Gwen “beats her feelings with sticks” while drumming. The drums represent the momentary ability to express her pent up emotions through action. So when the drums leave and the synth rings, musically, her adrenaline has run out. Spider-Woman did what she needed to do and Gwen Stacy is left. The synth extends to the next scene where she faces her father but it takes a soft, wavering tune. There are no drums to back it up. She is not spider-woman right now, she is Gwen and she needs her father to understand.

The drum returns like a heartbeat when she reveals herself and it goes badly. She’s Gwen but she’s Spider-Woman and the lines between the two blur. Her dad’s rejection of that part of her is as much a rejection of her, emphasised by the fact that in the background, the paint is dripping down in rapidly changing colours, reflecting her turmoil.

I love that Gwen looks devastated because, right from the start, we’re made so brutally aware of the suffering she goes through and has gone through. And this informs every interaction she has with miles - how he makes her feel okay. How when she’s Spider-Gwen with him, she’s inspired. So much depth added to her character with just one expression. I love this movie.

Starting a RP blog 101

1. Setting it up

So, you want to make an RP blog... Well, you've come to the right place!

To start off, you need to decide between opening up a side blog or making an entirely new account! If you make a side blog, you have complete and quick access to both your main account and other side blogs with a click of your finger, but you won't be able to send asks or like posts from your RP account. Instead, you would like things with your main account and send anon asks with a sign-off ( i.e. - @respect-the-hyphen ). As for a different account, you get access to both of those things, but it would take longer for you to switch between your main and RP. Personally, I made a side blog since I run many, many blogs and would like to quickly sift between all of them. This is entirely up to you, though!

Now, let's talk about setting the stage for your RP escapades. Your username should reflect the essence of your character or the theme of your RP universe. I personally chose respect-the-hyphen because I adore how pressed comic Peter gets over this. Your title should also reflect your blog, and you description can be anything from literally nothing to a long introduction. Your profile picture and banner should be eye-catching and give visitors a taste of what to expect from your RP. Think of them as the opening credits to your RP story.

As for your inquiry about choosing someone not taken, don't worry about that. No one cares if you become someone already taken; there's always room for interpretation and creativity. Just be yourself and have fun exploring the character's personality!

2. Getting out there

When you're ready to dive into RPing, consider creating an introduction post. This can include a brief bio of your character, their motivations, and what kind of interactions you're looking for. It's a great way to signal to other RPers that you're open for business! This is your chance to showcase your creativity and set the stage for epic storytelling.

After that, start interacting with other RPers by liking, reblogging, and commenting on their posts. Plus, make sure to add a few posts of your own into your arsenal. I set up a queue to post twice a day at prime time. When you start getting asks, I recommend answering a few every day or so and sticking them into queue so you have content for a while if you get busy. Queues are very, very useful

I promise it'll go alright. There are no rules for RPing. Just be creative and be you. Headcanons, original characters, and more are all welcome.

Remember, RPing is all about collaboration and storytelling. Have fun exploring your character's personality, engaging in interactions with other characters, and building memorable storylines. And most importantly, don't be afraid to be yourself and let your creativity shine!
