Day 14 ~ Gifting Something Cute / Dumb
Tumblr media
It’s his birthday and you decided to give him some cute and some dumb gifts.
Personalized Photo Keychain
“I got this for you from our second date at the carnival.” You said smiling at the red hair man that you love so much. He looked at you with so much admiration and love then he look quickly looks back at the keychain again. “I love it so much baby. We look so cute here.” You laugh looking at your young face. “Yeah well it was 5 years ago.” At that he giggles. “Don’t remind me that I am getting old.” He teased with a grin. “Babe you’re only 22.” You smiled at him.
100 Movies Scratch Off Poster
“Now for this I was thinking we can have like a few movie weekends so that we can finish off all these blocks.” You pointed at the poster and coin. “I love it. Hopefully we can get all the movies.” “Yeah but if not we can always replace it with something that we know we can get.” “This is why I love you Y/N you are always so positive about everything no matter what.”
“I know sometimes it can be a curse.” You muttered looking at the gifts on the floor with a small smile. “Well no matter what I like you the way you are.” He smiled pulling you into a hug for a few seconds before going back to his presents like a little kid on Christmas morning.
Personalized Leather Toiletry Bag
“I know you have a toiletry bag.” You started pointing at the bag. “But this one has your name and a little message from me at the bottom inside.”
If someone were to have asked me about my ideal man, I wouldn't have the words to describe you. You have surpassed all my expectations, fantasies and dreams combined. Sometimes it feels like I’m having a dream, but then I realize it’s all real and I’m one lucky lady to have you in this world. Thank you for being mine!
xoxo Y/N
As you look at him finish reading you can’t help but to notice the tears forming in his eyes. “This is so, so beautiful Y/N. I can’t wait to use it.” He pulled you in for a kiss and all you can do was smile your own tears forming as you can’t help but feel so loved.
Custom Portrait
“This is what I wanted to give to you when we graduated but I didn’t because I was flat broke.” You giggle and he looked at you with awe. “So I thought now that I have a paying job why not get it for him now.” You said pointing at the painting of you and Kirishima on his birthday when he turned 18. “If you would be so kind as to turn the portrait I have a little extra something stored there.”
Thanks for being my knight in shining armour and having my back when we are out on patrol together. Love you so much my Red Riot.
At that he smiled. “I love you so much my Blue Nova.” He smiled. “This is so beautiful. Did you paint it yourself.” He question and all you can do was shake your head with a cackle. “No way, I can’t do something this wonderful. I went to that place in the mall where they do custom portraits for people.” He nodded and went to the next present.
101 Conversation Starters For Couples
You laughed at the look on his face as he tore opened the wrapping paper. “This is a gag gift from my mom and dad.” You giggle again. “They thought we were so awkward the last time we had dinner with them.” He laughed. “Hey that was not my fault, someone had to go and wear that dress that does things to me and I had to fight a boner the whole time from popping up.”
“I know that is exactly why I did it because if I remember correctly that night was the best we ever had. Not to mention your roommates at the time were out for the night so we could have been as loud as we wanted to.” You whispered seductively into his ear and he shivered at the thought. “Yeah that was the best night we had together. You should were that dress tonight for the party.” All you can do is nod and blush as he looked you up and down biting his lip.
Apple Air Tag
“Hey I thought you said you couldn’t get them.” He laughed when you rolled your eyes. “Yeah well I had to lie otherwise you would have bought it for yourself.” You teased the man and he blushed knowing that you are right. “Well I love them either way. I can’t wait to freak the guys out by knowing exactly where they are. They don’t like when I spy on them sometimes and this is just going to make it easier.”
"Property of" Personalized Boxers
“What the hell.” He cackled as he tore the wrapping off. And all you can do is giggle as he held up the boxers. “I cannot wait to wear this. I am in love with it.” He laughed. “I will be right back.” You look as he quickly runs to your shared room. After 2 minutes he returns with his boxers on and a shirt you got for him for his 21st birthday. “Woah looking sexy there babe.” You flirted while whistling.
“I know it is my birthday but I got you something. I think you will like it.” You giggle as he hands you the bag. Looking into the bag you can’t help but laugh. Pulling out the exact pair just with his face and name. “I love it. Let me go quickly put it on so that we can match.”
Marshmallow Roasting Set
As you return you see has already opened the last present. “The last one is for tonight.” You smiled at the red haired man. “I know you and Denki like marshmallows over flames so this will make it easier.” You giggle as he pulls you into a bone crushing hug. “Thank you baby girl. I love you some much. I can’t wait for tonight. Thank you for everything you got me. I like it a lot.” “I am happy. Happy birthday honeybun.” You smile pulling him in for a kiss. Moving together towards the couch you continue to kiss before he pulls away for breath. “Wow.” He grins up at you. “Why don’t we go celebrate your birthday by the pool. I have a new bikini I know that you are going to love.” You raced to the room and he shakes his head before following behind you.

Winner’s Curse Ch. 22
“Please please come in quickly,” the honorable wizard Yen Sid urged Uma, barely muffling his own coughs from the dusty air of Judge Frollo’s “house.” Quite ironically or perhaps more telling, Judge Frollo’s abode was the basement of a brothel. A cruel twist of temptation or perhaps a house of convenience since it was no secret that Frollo indulged in his hypocritical desires while preaching at his imaginary pulpit during the day.
But Uma wasn’t here to hear how she was destined for hell. It was night, the perfect time to meet the rest of the Anti-Villain Club while Frollo was away.
It felt like the situation was getting more dire the more time past. Amplified by the restlessness Uma felt because they weren’t getting anything done!
Sometimes Uma wanted to give in to her temptation to just dump the Auradonians for themselves. They didn’t really offer her any information or skills that she needed. Plus, they were slow at best. Uncaring and disobedient at worse, far more concerned with their own problems and feelings. They didn’t know how to work with a team or for a cause other than themselves.
Such royal behavior. Must be nice to put your moods first when your need for food, shelter and safety were never in question.
So it was a breath of fresh air to meet with the Anti Villains. Though they did not give her the assuring efficiency of her pirate crew, they were still Vks, her people. And she would need all the allies she could get if they were to stop the Coven.
Yen Sid gestured to the faded rug with, of course, an image of a man bleeding and crucified while a red devilish monster stabbed at his torso with a pitchfork.
Frollo’s erstwhile, rebellious daughter, Claudine took the head of the rug with Diego De’Vil and Yzla on both sides of her. Harold, Jason, Hadie, Big Murph, Hermie Bing, Eddie Balthazar, Celia and a blonde girl that Uma didn’t recognize rounded out the rest of the circle. Uma took place across from Claudine and Yen Sid stood by, pacing around.
“What news can you give us?” Yen Sid asked, starting the meeting abruptly.
Uma hadn’t noticed when Yen Sid signalled to her from the alleyways but the elder wizard looked even older. He was hunched over, not from age but like there was an invisible yoke on his shoulders. His face was riddled with new lines of wrinkles, stress and fatigue. And he was pale. So pale.
Uma had seen that sort of sickly paleness before. The sheen of sweat from a non-existent flu. He looked like death. The Isle after 20 years was starting to take its toll.
Though Uma had no personal attachment to the wizard nor did she care for his method of teaching goodness so Vks would be accepted in Auradon, when they should be accepted because they like any other person should have a home without abuse or poverty, she respected what he was trying to do. He didn’t see them all as one mass of worthless deviants to be scorned and ignored. He could have stayed in Auradon, doing nothing like all the rest of the so-called good guys, but he didn’t.
And this place was slowly killing him.
This place was going to be the death of all them if Uma’s revolution didn’t work.
Uma cracked her neck, inhaled and began to brief them, even though her report didn’t offer much encouragement that their plans were going to be successful.
“Our communications link with King Ben no longer works thanks to the Isle’s crappy service. However, we were able to inform him that the invasion is taking place in less than a week before we were cut off.” “Circe is officially on our side and will assist Yen Sid on more complex, powerful spells against Nerissa and the others.”
“The rest of the Coven-” “Believes.. Well actually tolerates the idea that you and Calix are still loyal. Lala still is on their side but Jade thinks she can convince her to switch again. Zevon and Ginny are lost causes. But you are going to round up your crew, and Harriet’s crew for extra manpower.” Yzla interrupted, and shrugged at Uma’s glare, “Jade told me.” “Ah yes.” Uma pursed her lips, shaking it off to not act too ruffled. She had been aware that Yzla and Jade were close but she didn’t particularly like that they were discussing things without her. That’s how plans got overturned. And people were overthrown.
Uma pushed that thought away as too paranoid. After all, they were all here for the same thing. Escape, not power.
“Yes, so you already know that. I do believe we will be able to persuade the rest of the Isle on our side.” “Wait the rest of the Isle. Like you mean some other kids right? Or the Hun gang. Not not the whole Isle?” Eddie asked. “I meant the rest of the Isle. The adult henchmen. The orphaned kids. The Huns, the mercenaries, the prostitutes. Anyone and everyone who has no power or big villain names.” The rest of the club looked at turns confused, intrigued and disbelieving at her.
“They are like us. They gain nothing from the Coven gaining more power. They get everything if they helped the revolution. No more oppressors. And a promise from King Ben to take all of us off the Isle to better housing, new jobs and actual food. A better life.”
“Whether Mal likes it or not.” Uma added internally. That had been the one thing she managed to speak to King Ben about, and surprisingluy he agreed wholeheartedly. He had seemed horrified when she described the living conditions that children dealt with. The way teens had turned to violence among other things to survive their abusive parents. He didn’t think he’d be able to convince Auradon should be abolished completely. Big villains would probably stay indefinitely. But he was welcome to her suggestions for programs to hep Vks.
“That’s why I need your input. King Ben is putting me in charge of VK Integration Programs and I want to know what we need.” “Uh, that’s nice. A truly Christian thing to do,” Claudine sneered saracastically, she had always been the most doubting of anyone having good intentions what with who she had for a father, “But shouldn’t we get out of here before we plan any VK Integration Programs?”
“This is part of how we are going to persuade the rest of the Isle to help us,” Uma smoothly bridged the two disparting ideas, “We need solid plans with how, what, when. Something solid and real that people can imagine and believe in. When the other Vks and adults hear of these programs, these programs that are as real as when King Ben invited the Core Four, they will be willing to fight for their chance to get in. They will rise up against the Coven so that they could be free.”
Claudine and Diego still looked suspicious, but Jason, Harold, and Big Murph practically had stars in their eyes. Hermie was smiling shyly and Hadie was tapping his chin thoughtfully. He was the first to pitch in.
“I think there should be something for the victims of Hans and Lars.” Everyone turned to look at him which caused the spiky-blue haired teen to flush and clam up. , Uma nodded empathetically, “Continue.” “Well, I mean-uh.Well we all had it bad. But Prince Hans is another level of bad. I went there once with dad for one of Staylan’s parties and I lurked around and man, that dude is nuts. He has photos of his “harem” all “sexy bruised” and stuff. And Lars…”
Uma narrowed her eyes. She didn’t need Hadie to elaborate on Lars. Gil had already told her everything she needed to know about the icy sadist. It was a term that was generally thrown around for an island full of villains with bloodlust, but Gil described the sickeningly calm way Lars acted. How Lars almost described it in seductive terms the way a whip would constrict a person’s throat until the breath left them. The calculating gaze he’d watch the ones he picked as “lovers.” Apparently a sadism that he picked up from his dad.
“Yeah, everyone knows Drizella is his favorite. Poor Dizzy.” Eddie shook his head.
Dizzy had always been left alone with her grandmother, Lady Tremine, but Uma had always assumed that Drizella, like almost all the parents on the Isle, was neglectful and uncaring. She hadn’t thought that Drizella may have been dealing with her own things.
And why wouldn’t she? That was Gil’s mother had to go through everyday with being Gaston’s unfavorite. While Uma was more concerned with the kids on the Isle, she could see now that some adults may need help too.
“Great. Center for sadist victims. What else have we got?”
“Do we have to go to school if we go to Auradon? I just don’t think I need it. My band is doing pretty well and I bet those royal dorks never heard music like mine.” Diego mock-shredded on his guitar
Uma cocked her head. She got his point. She didn’t think there was anything Auradon Prep had that could teach her anything useful. Like smizing as she heard from Celia Faciliar’s letters from Freddie. Plus there were some teens near adulthood like Harriet who probably wouldn’t want to be forced into classes when they could get jobs. Same with adults who never learned to read in their lives and still didnt want to.
“I’ll talk about it with King Ben. What else?” Uma said.
“Food that isn’t covered with flies. Fresh food, not trash.” Hermie said.
“Uh that’s just a given. None of their food is rotten.” Celia told the lithe brunette before Uma could clarify that good food comes with the territory.
Several ideas were thrown around, but the main ones came down to food, homes away from the possible revenge of their parents and others, and none of the Goodness 101 that Celia heard Freddie taking.
“Great. Now the important thing is that you spread the word of these programs to the other. You have to make people want this badly enough that they will fight. Act like its their only chance because it is. From there, I will send my crew to organize them to key points and learn some better and dirtier fight tactics.” Uma announced.
The rest of the Club nodded somberly at the announcement. There was not much emotion from Uma’s command. No relief, excitement or even nervousness. Just a numb sort of nod that they understood. But the words, “This is your only chance,” clearly rang in their heads.
It was now or never.
Everyone slowly got up to leave, thinking their own thoughts except the blonde who slipped to walk next to Uma, expertly slinking through the alleyways.
“Hi, um, I know we haven’t met before but um.. I’m Cosette.” The literally dirty blonde introduced in a fake high voice, clearly highlighting her nervousness, “I’m Gaston’s daughter. Gil’s half sister? You know Gil right? I mean, of course you do. I’ve seen him and everyone knows he hangs with you. I’m sorry I’m babbling. It’s just this is all so new-”
Uma stopped walking so she could give her her full attention. Yes, now that she stopped to actually look at Cosette, she could see a bit of the resemblance. The blonde hair, the high forehead and cheekbones. She looked older, maybe Harriet’s age, though her ample chest peeking from her corset gave the impression of a woman in her 20s. Unlike Gil, she didn’t have the usually confused look in her eyes. Just scared.
That look heightened Uma’s protective instincts. The helpless usually did that, as unvillainous as that was, plus the Gil resemblance.
“Why haven’t I heard of you before?” Uma asked skeptically even though she was pretty sure Cosette was honest.
“Um I’m a girl. Dad wouldn’t acknowledge me. Actually he tried to throw me away and try again which is why Mom left and… it seemed safer to avoid him. But- but I heard from Celia about this Anti-Villain Club when I went in for a reading, and Celia said you’d come so I thought I’d ask you. You know, for permission.” Uma thought. The story was realistic enough. But there was too much to do right now to focus on a family reunion. Unless…
“I will. You have my word. But first, how good would you say your fighting and/or spying skills?”

Snowbaz 26- Finding His Fangs 101
OTP Prompt #26: It’s eighth year, and Simon has cooked up a very… unique idea to get Baz to reveal his fangs.
~ During this time of quarantine, I’m aiming to post much more regularly. Enjoy! ~
I have tried everything to get Baz to show me his fangs. Well, presumed fangs, as Penny says. But he’s a bloody vampire, and I just know it. The cold, pale skin, the sneaking around in the catacombs, and having colour right after. The strength and grace he has on the pitch, his cheekbones! (Penny says that has nothing to do with vampirism- but I know better. I’ve seen Twilight.) I’ve tried scaring him into it (he’s never even flinched), punching him into it, provoking him into it, giving myself a papercut near him, etc. And I’m almost bloody positive that his fangs pop out when he eats. So anyway, I’ve decided to try a different tactic. It probably won’t work, and he’ll probably punch me for it, (not probably. He will) but it’s my last resort. I haven’t told Penny about it and I’m not going to, because she’ll lecture me for it, no doubt. I’m going to Bella him. As in Bella from Twilight.
As in seduce him. Logically, I know he’s probably not even capable of being seduced. And especially not by me. Hell, I don’t even know if he’s gay. (I’m not, but. Drastic measures, yeah?) Logically, I know that this will not work. But when have I ever been one for logic? I haven’t got much planned out, but I’m in our room now, and it’s dark and he’s just got back from the catacombs, so I’m thinking I’ll just go from there.
When Baz sees me sitting up in bed, he looks me up and down and then sneers. “Snow.” His voice is clipped and to the point, blatantly showcasing the hate he feels for me. Crowley, this might be harder than I thought. (No- bloody impossible is what it might be.) I can’t work up the nerve to get up and approach him before he locks himself in our bloody en suite, and I hear the shower turn on.
I could go into the en suite while he’s in the shower. I could. I probably shouldn’t. But I very well could. And if I did and he was starkers, it might speed the process up a bit. I feel my cheeks burn at the thought of Baz naked. I wonder briefly what would happen if I went in there starkers. Bloody armageddon, probably. (This is the most my mind has thought this year.) But apparently, I’ve thought too much without any action, because by the time I finally un-glue my arse from my bed, Baz is out of the bathroom in his posh pajamas, completely ignoring me.
His back is facing me when he says, “Can I help you with something, Snow?” (He has eyes in the back of his head, he does. Bloody vampire.)
“Erm,” I stutter as I stand up, moving toward him. Just fangs. I just want to see the fangs. “Actually, yes,” I try my best to sound seductive, but I s’pose I sound right constipated because Baz spins right around and quirks an eyebrow at me.
“Alright there, prat?” I’m bloody done with this. I only wanted to see his fangs, and now he’s insulting me and standing so close that I can see blue flecks in his grey eyes, and his cold is seeping through my warmth and I’m only focusing on his hair, and when did I start looking at his lips? (My mind is going too bloody fast.)
“Baz-” I whisper it, but his name gets engulfed by the bloody devil himself as his lips press against mine. It’s all teeth at first, but he slows the kiss down, and I take him by the back of the head to deepen it. His mouth is soft and cold, and much nicer than a bloke’s mouth should feel. But he pulls back all too soon, and looks right mortified. A faint blush creeps up his neck to his cheeks.
“Sorry Snow, I just, um,” Baz never trips over his words. (Or apologizes.) “You were just so close, and I-” It’s my turn to shut him up with my mouth, bringing him back into the kiss. He doesn’t pull away this time. I’m very aware of his hands on my back and threading through my hair, tugging softly. I am not, however, so aware of why this began in the first place. (Not that I want it to stop.)
Fangs I remember as I pull on his hair. (As soft as I had always imagined it to be.) I want to see his fangs, but I won’t mention it now, so he doesn’t think I’m using him. (I am using him. And I feel like a right prat about it.) (As I tug off his shirt, it doesn’t feel like I’m using him.) He puts sloppy kisses down my neck and my shoulders, leaving love bites. I can’t help but groan his name, and I wonder briefly how long he’s been wanting this. (How long have I been wanting this?) I don’t want this, I remind myself. It’s just means to an end. And that end is finally proving that he’s a vampire, once and for all.
“Bite me,” I whisper fervently, barely audible. My voice wavers and Baz stills, and for a moment I wonder if I’ve gone and bloody fucked it up.
“Excuse me, Snow?”
“Baz. Bite me.” I say again, meeting his gaze as he moves to sit up. (Just one look and this’ll all be over with.)
“Simon, I don’t um-” He looks unsure, and I try to non-verbally communicate that he can trust me. (Even though this is all just a plot to prove his vampirism.) (Maybe I’m the one that’s been plotting this whole time.) “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” He looks to anywhere but me. Right. So that’s practically an admission. I could just stop right here, call it good, yeah? But something tugs in my gut (and not my never ending hunger, for once), telling me that I shouldn’t stop here. I don’t want to stop here.
“Baz, love,” I bring a hand up to his (Edward Cullen style) cheekbones. “It’s okay. I don’t care.” I try telling myself I do care, but, well. I don’t think I intended to go this far, and now I’ve got no idea where to go from here.
For a moment, I think he’s either going to walk away or punch me. Instead, he reaches up to take my hand and takes a deep breath. Then he opens his mouth a bit. Before anything happens, I give his hand a reassuring squeeze. When his fangs drop and he flushes a bit, I can’t help but gasp a bit.
“Wicked,” I expected a lot of things to come out of my mouth when I finally saw his fangs. Admiration was not expected. Attraction was not expected. Blood rushing to certain extremities was not expected.
He smiles a bit and rolls his eyes when I try to get closer to look at them. “Really?” He asks, gently trying to push me away. (It’s half arsed. He’s not really trying, anyway.)
“Crowley, Baz! They’re- they’re so cool.” He flushes just a touch again as I put my hand out to touch the front of one. (Is this weird? This is definitely weird.) “This is insane. Insane, Baz! Do they pop out when you eat?”
“Yes,” I always wondered why he didn’t eat in the dining hall. (He lisps with his fangs. It is the single most bloody arousing thing I’ve ever heard in my life.)
“And you um,” I stumble, looking for the right words. “They help you… drink?” He goes stiff and I rub soft circles in his hand to help him relax. He only nods. “Okay, and now the biggest question.” He braces himself.
“Carry on then, Simon.”
“Your fangs- are they… are they like straws that suck the blood up or do you stab and then drink?” He stares at me in what I can only assume to be shock at my genius question, but then he laughs and rolls his eyes while shoving me, and I think he might be the most beautiful thing I’ve seen, fangs and all. (Especially with the fangs.)
“I am not a sippy cup, Simon. I could kill you in an instant- without magic. I’m...” He trails off, looking sad. I think I know what he’s thinking, and I don’t like it a bit. (Maybe this morning I would’ve said I did. But now? Now it’s like everything has changed… maybe because everything has.)
I softly open his mouth and press a soft kiss to each of his fangs. Somehow, he manages to both tense and relax at the same time. “You’re beautiful, Baz.” I know his secret now. Years and years spent trying to get it out of him- for just some clue. But what I didn’t realize was that he was giving me bloody clues all the time! I was right daft, looking for other secrets- the wrong secrets... not knowing he was always trying to tell me his biggest one of all.
He fancies me. More than that, I think after the right proper snog we had, I fancy him. (And I think it’s been that way a long bloody time, too.) I dunno what I thought I’d do once I figured out he was a vampire and he showed me his fangs. Maybe I thought I was going to tell the mage; finally get rid of Baz, once and for all. But really, I think Penny would tell me this has all been because I secretly wanted to snog him. (Maybe she’s right- usually is.)
Baz grins at me like I’m all he’s ever wanted. (He’s all I’ve ever wanted- I just didn’t know it yet.) “You’re not so bad yourself, Snow.” (His lisping is driving me mad.)
“You called me Simon, before.” He shakes his head and cocks his eyebrow in that infuriating way that’s always riled me up. (In more ways than one, now that I think on it.)
“No I-” I shove my mouth into his, risking my lip getting sliced open in order to shut him up. (If I would have known this method of shutting-up would work, I certainly would have done it a bloody long time ago.)
After what seems like a very long and heated time, I pull back, despite his protestations. Sheepishly, but with more want and lust and love that I’ve ever felt before, I choke out, “About that bite I asked for earlier…”

26. “I don’t think of you as a protector. More like a distraction.”

46. “On a scale from one to ten, how bad do you want to kill me right now?” “I’m hovering somewhere in the high thirties.”
47. “I can fix that.” “I’m calling a professional.” “I’m a professional.” “A more professional, professional.”
48. “What’s the word for that infestation of tiny creatures over there?” “Those are children. That’s a school.”

50. “Why are you glaring at me?” “I’m hoping you’ll spontaneously combust.”
51. “If we die, I’m going to spend the rest of our afterlife reminding you that this was all your fault.” “That’s cool, I wouldn’t mind having company while being a ghost.”
52. “What are you so afraid of?” “You.”
53. “What is that THING in your backpack?” (changed)
54. “I hate the sight of blood.” “Then maybe you shouldn’t kill for a living.”
55. “All that blood looks good on you. It really brings out your eyes.”
56. “Want to see what kind of trouble we can get into?” “Oh god, we’re going to die, aren’t we?” “It’s a Tuesday, I know how to restrain myself.” “You absolutely do not.”
57. “I don’t give a damn.” “You give so many damns they’re visible from SPACE.”

62. “This isn’t good.” “How can you tell?” “See how they’re slowly surrounding us? And they all have guns and knives and I think one guy is carrying a machete?”
63. “He’s right behind me, isn’t he?” “Actually he’s right in front of you.”
64. “I’m not a thief. I’m just really good at acquiring things that aren’t mine.”
65. “I’m not completely human anymore. Remember that next time you want to punch me in the face.”
66. “Is that blood?” “No?” “That’s not a question you’re supposed to answer with another question.”
67. “I never stood a chance, did I?” “That’s the sad part – you did once.”
68. “It’s okay, I’m here.”
69. “I’m not going to leave you.”
70. “Everything is okay.”
71. “I’m going to protect you.”
72. “I believe in you.”
73. “Do you feel guilty? Like, at all?” “I don’t have time to feel guilty. And neither do you.”
74. “Stop that!” “Stop what?” “Doing that thing with your face when you’re happy. It’s making me nauseous.”
75. “What are you doing?” “…Eating.” “We’re being held hostage and you decide to raid the kitchen?” “They didn’t say the fridge was off limits.”
76. “Is that a dead body?” “Maybe?” “It is. I can see it right in front of me.” “I promise I’ll clean it up before dinner.”
77. “If we’re going to get out of here, we’re going to have to work together. After that, we can go back to killing each other.” “Oh, fine.”
78. “That’s not funny.” “I thought it was.” “You don’t count. You started laughing in the middle of a funeral because you started thinking of a meme you saw on Facebook.”
79. “Do we need wine?” “No, I need wine, you need to put your pants back on.” “But life is so freeing without them.” “Pants. On. Now.”
80. “Can you please go be stupid somewhere that’s away from me?”
81. “I feel like I’m being stabbed.” “How do you even know what it feels like to be stabbed?”
82. “Will you be quiet?” “I didn’t say anything!” “Well stop thinking so loud.”
83. “Did you get my note?” “Of course I got it. You taped it to my forehead while I was sleeping.”
84. “You’re a psychopath.” “I prefer creative.”
85. “Why do people keep trying to put this blanket on me?” “Because you’re in shock.” “That doesn’t mean I need a blanket. It means I need booze.”
86. “Oh no.” “What is it? What happened? Who died?” “I think I just felt an emotion.” “You have GOT to be kidding me.”
87. “When all this is over, I want my sanity back.”
88. “That’s definitely not true.” “Of course it is. I read it in Encyclopedia.” (changed)
89. “You forgot me.” “It was an accident.”
90. “Why do you keep risking your life? To prove a point?” “Yes.”
91. “I would like to join you in acknowledging the difficulties of your life.” “You are the WORST at this comfort thing.”
92. “You’ve got to stop doing that.” “What?” “Saying things that make me want to kiss you.”
93. “Look, if you want to conjure some demon spawn from the great beyond, that’s all fine and dandy. Just wait for me to leave before you start.”
94. “Just calm down!” “My arm just got cut off and you want me to calm down!?” (changed)
95. “You know what they say, panicking burns a shit ton of calories.” “Who even says that?” “Me. Just now.”
96. “Don’t mind me, I’ll just be in the corner, having another existential crisis.”
97. “Oh my god, I had the exact same dream!” “Really?” “Are you crazy? Of course I didn’t.”
98. “I need to go de-stress.” “Where are you going?” “To demolish the living room.”
99. “I think I’m having a feeling. How do I make it stop?”
100. “I’m bitter and complicated. It’s one of my charms.” “I don’t think you know what that word means. Or how to count.”
101. “Well? What happened? I want all the details!”
102. “You always think you know what you’d do when faced with the end of the world. Me? I went home and took a nap.”
103. “Damn it, why aren’t you obeying the laws of physics?”
104. “I’d hug you right now, but you’re covered in evidence. And I also really don’t want to.” “Evidence is a really nice euphemism for blood, gore and guts.” “You’re totally missing the point. Do you know how pissed I am at you right now?”
105.  “This way is more efficient.” “This way is going to get us killed.”
106. “You’re not my favourite person today.” “I’m not your favourite person on any day.”

a million tries and then, you
Tumblr media
title: a million tries and then, you pairing: kim dongyoung/reader genre: office!au/matchmaker!au/enemies to lovers!au summary: working for a dating app as a matchmaker was a very difficult task, much more when she is unable to get a date herself and there is one coworker named dongyoung stealing her clients. just how disrespectful could he be with that cynical personality of his and that sweet smile?
Here is the setting: She’s a matchmaker—yes, as a career, a person who works for a dating app and with her wide knowledge about relationships, sex and love, united two people based on a small questionnaire they had to fill before creating their accounts and then, she sent them off on a date. It was a hard task, unbeknownst to people; she had to study the places in which they lived at, their interests, what they disliked, etc.
Now that we have the setting, let’s wait for the punchline. Wait. And wait. And wait.
She was single, that was not potentially wrong at the slightest, but it was not because she lacked people in her life that could be a partner, but her own ignorance when dating was what made it so difficult for her to date. It was almost like a curse, she opened her mouth and men suddenly fleeted away like bats in a bright place. In her own opinion, she thought she had been cursed by black magic when she was a child, but it could be any other thing. Maybe, she spoke too much or she spoke too casually. She flirted a lot, perhaps, or she was too robotic because she knew how dates worked. After all, the funny part about dates was actually…you know…making mistakes, like having a bit of sauce at the corner of your lip or just tripping over your feet.
No one would buy a painkiller from a doctor that did not take them, mainly because you had to sell a product that you had tried and were confident in, but she sold love and seduction when in reality she could barely hold a man to her side for…a month. She guesses that was the longest time she had been talking to someone before they disappeared from her life. It was quite funny, how one moment she was listening to songs and remembering a man in particular and the other she was just forgotten. Not even a text to remind her that she existed but they did not care about her, they all left and pretended like nothing happened.
And then there is another matchmaker, a man. Matchmaker of the month was the title he had at the moment and he was obnoxiously talented. He did not even read over the questionnaires all that much, neither did he look at the zodiac charts, he simply could feel it. Feel as in…he just had an eye for it. Part of the office crushed on him for it, but she was the part of the workplace that had conspiracy theories about him. Yoonoh said he was just very lucky. Taemin said he was a wizard of sorts and Amber agreed. Her opinion, however, was just that he was a big asshole.
You know, one of those people who have the aura that they think they are better than everyone. The type of guy who would give you a you’re welcome if you ever did so much as look him in the eye. He was one of those people who rolled their eyes at anything that sounded even remotely dumb. He probably claimed to be one of those literature geeks when he only had Edgar Allan Poe up his ass, but even when he was all that—or that was what she thought—, Dongyoung still got to dare around much more than her. One day, he got there with a hickey that she had gotten a glimpse of when he undid the buttons of his button down to fix his tie. The other morning, he was talking on the phone with someone and he kept smirking. Dumbasses always got what they wanted, that was for sure.
That was not the point. The point was that her work was very methodically done. First, she read their names and looked at the study of their zodiac charts—there was a whole division for that—and she paired up people based on major interests or correlations. Her job took her a lot of hours but Dongyoung could pop out ten couples in only two hours, and not only that, but said couples that actually did great. Their boss was enchanted, to say the least, but it still irks her to know how he actually did it. Normally, she does not care until Dongyoung went by the door and sat down by his cubicle and instead of minding his own business, he cared about hers.
Dongyoung was a sight to look at—he had a pretty smile and a tiny face, eyes turning upwards and soft brown hair that was normally just falling over his forehead in the shape of bangs. He was young, which was also something good considering selling love at the age of sixty on an app was not the most expected of things, and he had a very nice speaking voice. Sometimes he sings, other times he just eats in a funny way but he always pretends he is not laughing at someone’s jokes. Maybe, it was pride or he was just really stupid. Either way, Dongyoung lived up to his bachelor’s degree of being a healthy guy dating around a sufficient amount, but he was obnoxiously so pretentious that she felt the sudden need to smack him in the face when she clicked on the icon that contained a selfie of some cute guy to see a sign that read:
This customer has already been picked by another Cupid.
That’s how they called themselves—Cupids, quite clear because they made two people fall in ‘love’ for one another, but that was apart from the case. After some research on the app, she realized that her client had been paired up with one of Dongyoung’s clients and that surprises her. Normally, they were given a list of a bunch of clients so they would not have these types of situations, but even when Dongyoung clearly saw that said client was under her name, he still did not care. Anger flows around her body as she turns to glare at him, his eyes still settled on his screen as his fingers danced across his keyboard lazily. Look at him. Typing as if he just did nothing. Looking ethereal and natural and so relaxed and so fucking…
Annoying.
Yes. Annoying.
She stands up from her seat, fixing her pink button down as she walked towards the man. Indeed, they wore pink clothing in said place but that is not what bothers her—it bugs her that Kim Dongyoung had taken her pink haired client just to give it to someone else. Who did he think he is? She presses two of her fingers against his shoulder and Dongyoung looks behind him, quirking an eyebrow without really asking her a question. Not that she gave him time to do so, at least. “Lee Taeyong was my client. I had already paired him up with—”
Dongyoung looks at his screen once again, clearly not interested. “I paired him up with one of my clients because they would totally hit it off.”
She tightens her fists out of anger. “I said I had already paired him up with one of my clients.”
The man sighs before turning on his chair, his legs parting as he rests his hands on the armrests of his seat. “And I paired him up with one of mine. The notification has already been sent. Too late.”
“But you have plenty of clients of your own!”
“So do you. Pair your girl with someone else.”
She rolls her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest without realizing that there were other workers looking at them. Still, she tried to keep her voice on a low. “…I can’t. Daniela was the perfect match for him! She is an exchange student that just got here, in Seoul. She enjoys dancing and hip-hop. She loves long term relationships and a man who can cook.”
The man with the sharp eyes stops for a moment and she thinks he was about to apologize, but he doesn’t. “We are supposed to create good couples. Daniela is not even that fluent in Korean to start with and Taeyong does not look like the type that took Spanish 101 after class, so they would not have worked out. There would be a language barrier.”
“Verbally, but that does not mean—” She stops herself when she realizes Dongyoung had turned on his chair once again and she huffs out a breath. “You bratty asshole, haven’t your parents taught you that you have to look at someone when they are talking to you?!”
“They have.” Dongyoung says. “But they also taught me not to listen to people who don’t know what they are talking about.”
Somewhere in the room someone gasps, but she doesn’t even mind who it was. “What did you just say?”
“You are too uptight.” Dongyoung explains. All words and no bite. “Listen, I am sorry I took your client but your choice would have not worked. It is nothing against you, but really, we are here trying to come up with good couples and the least we want is a bad review.”
“I’d rather have a hundred bad reviews than a good one for you.” She says and Dongyoung stands up from his seat, raising his eyebrows and sighing.
“Are we done here?” The man asks and she parts her lips, surprised and astonished, before shaking her head.
“No! We are not done—!”
“I really have to pee.” Dongyoung whispers and then, she shakes her head.
“I…uh…I guess…yeah. Go pee.”
Dongyoung smiles at that, gummy and adorable in its own way. “Thanks.”
He could do whatever he wanted but he also could not. She swears she will never fight with him again but she also knows that is impossible. Dongyoung had committed his crime and he had to battle with the consequences. It was definitely war for the two, only that he did not know it.
But that was just a head-start for her. Her enemy did not even know what awaited him.
Blind dates are terrible. Really, it was not one of those speeches about how beauty meets the eye and there had to be certain physical attraction for two people to like one another, but it was just a matter of awkwardness. There had to be certain ice-breaking techniques that needed to be followed before asking someone out on a date, but blind-dates were the new arranged marriages of the century and with how widely popular they had gotten for people who were not that good at finding someone for themselves, she had decided to give it a try. Had, a verb in past, because she is in the comfort of her apartment, taking off her shoes by her door as a raged sigh left her lips. Alone again, without a man kissing down her neck as he pinned her to the wall and whispered all the things they were going to do on her bed. She would have even settled for the promise of a second date but that did not happen.
It is her curse…or maybe Wonwoo was just a little bit too much of a gentleman. The librarian her friend had gotten to know while getting her PhD sounded like a great idea. According to the description she got a week ago, Wonwoo was a single guy around her age with the cutest eyes covered by rounded glasses with clear lenses and gold brimming. He liked writing, he also wrote some songs outside from writing books, and he was generally just interested in the same things as her. However, the moment they met she was met with the most gorgeous man she had seen in a while and in between shy smiles, the conversation ensued between the two. It was all fine, Wonwoo leaning in over the table to speak to her and sometimes tucking a few strands of her hair behind her ear, touching her hand or laughing too much at her jokes. Those were all signs of interest…until they weren’t.
But by the time they got to her door, Wonwoo thanked her for the evening and he said that it was a really nice play-date. Play-date. Exactly the words some mother would use when explaining why her son had brought his friends home. She does not know if Wonwoo thought of her as too childish or he was just too awkward to call it a date.
Still, it is very weird.
With a quick motion, she ends up sitting without her shirt and her skirt on the couch, feeling the cold air of the air conditioner hitting her skin after walking up the stairs. She thought it was better to take the stairs just to have more time with Wonwoo, but that obviously did not work. For a moment, she looks up at the ceiling, wondering if her life is going to be as boring as it is at that very moment, but she pushes the thought away as she looks through her phone. First, she checks her social media and then, she sees the glistening icon of the dating app she works for. She has never used it, for she did not think it was necessary (key-word: past), so with a swift touch she ends up in the home page of the dating app.
It is impossible that she is drunk off wine, so the decision she takes is completely sober. First, she completes the information about her date and time of birth, then continuing with her interests and the questions that were sent her way. Before she knew it, she had already made an account. However, as she looks through pictures to put in her profile page, she stops herself.
She needs a glass of water. The glasses of wine she shared with Wonwoo were too sweet.
However, she thinks nothing of making an account in the app, strangely enough. Though, she should have paid more attention to it.
It is rare to hear Irene laugh or cackle or even make a sound in the office, for the woman hates her job. She is not particularly fond of online dating, she says she has had a few bad experiences and the least she wants is for someone to go through that thanks to her, but Irene says she needs the money and that’s why she stays. The gorgeous woman normally sat by the part of the office that was in charge of zodiac compatibilities and readings, but she also highly doubts the existence of zodiac signs. She’s weird, also a bit grumpy, but the woman in question barely talks to her, so Irene is not one of the coworkers she is the closest with. Still, when she turns to look at Irene, the woman covers her mouth to muffle her laughter and continues to look at her computer.
Weird.
However, she has a job to continue and by this time, she is trying to read over the reviews of the dates she prepared in the past week. The majority were good, but some girl was complaining about a guy named Mark Lee--apparently, the young man could barely speak a word to her before he ended up locked in the bathroom, too scared to even talk to her, and he never went out. The Cupid surely hoped he was okay, for it was not a good experience to have, but she owns up to her one star and continues looking at the reviews.
Then, a notification pops up in her email. Normally, most of the emails she got were from coworkers, some asking for advice or exchanging clients just to have better matches. However, when she clicks on the window, she realizes she had gotten an email from an unknown account and when she opened it, there are pictures of her account on the app. Not only that, but the person who wrote said email sent it to everyone in the office--probably the reason why Irene was finally laughing--and to top it off, they had written a message.
“Click. Click. Time for dick!”
She doesn’t know how she feels—bothered, maybe embarrassed, definitely angry, most likely like she wants to hide her face under the ground like an ostrich and let out the biggest scream, but there is something that she knows and that is that said email had to be created by someone in the office. That much was obvious, of course. Immediately, she knows who it is and it goes by the name of Kim Dongyoung, seated by his laptop as he worked diligently, cup of coffee placed over his desk, brown hair styled as it always is and his pink button down hugging his frame nicely. If only he was not so much of an asshole, the two would get along well.
Yet, when she was about to stand up and give Dongyoung an earful, an ultimatum, a sermon, she feels the weight of someone’s hands pushing her by the shoulders back on her seat and when she looks up at the person in front of her, she sees Taemin. The man with the plump lips and adorable features seems stressed, to say the least. “You won’t believe what just happened!” He starts and she feels a knot getting caught on her throat. “I was going to pair up two people that I just got in my list of clients and…dude, you were there! Someone is trying to catfish as you and everyone has been talking about it in the office.”
Taemin is just…not innocent, particularly, not dumb either, but he is pure in certain way—friendly enough to just come up with the fact that someone is trying to catfish as her. There is no one but herself behind that account, though. “Who sent that email?”
She is literally about to explode, burst, fly to the Sun with how angry she is and then, Taemin answers. “I sent it to the boss first. You know our app is against all types of catfish and then everyone was commenting on it.” He continues to look worried and with embarrassment, she clears her throat before sighing.
“It was me.”
“Yeah, in your picture! It was a picture I saw in your Instagram account before.”
“No, Taemin.” She starts. “It was me who created the account.”
Taemin looks baffled, as if he had just been thrown a bucket full of ice-cold water to wake up from a nightmare. He parts his lips, closes them, and then they open once again to let out a soft chuckle. “But why? You know most Cupids are not even allowed to make an account on the app.”
She widens her eyes. Shit, she had completely forgotten about that. It is against the rules of the company to create an account, mainly because it would be quite biased and the Cupids’ personal lives would be involved with work. “Uh…then let’s just pretend that it was actually catfish. Delete the account. Pretend like nothing happened.” She says that as she stands up from her seat and Taemin gives a few steps back when he realizes just how close they are.
Taemin is laughing and god, she does not know what she was thinking when she created an account. What she knew was that the email was sent by the boss thanks to Taemin, but the comments that were added to the version she received of said email were done by people in the office. She absolutely knows who it was, a man whose presence was enough to anger her and someone who wanted to take revenge because she had screamed at him weeks ago after she realized he had stolen one of her clients. Dongyoung is an asshole, but she never thought he would go that far. “You got it.”
The few steps that she takes to get to Dongyoung’s cubicle are embarrassing, mainly because everyone had seen her account and it was…worthy of laughing, but still not a memory that she wants to linger on too much. The two were like the two halves of an infinite that never realized just how complementary they could be to the other, so they hated each other for it. She takes the armrests of Dongyoung’s chair in her palms and she makes him turn around, staring at him face to face and seeing nothing more than his pair of brown eyes. Dongyoung is cute-looking, almost like a person who could never harm anyone, but she knows that is not true.
Because the moment he looks at her, he starts laughing. She hastily tries to cover the embarrassment on her face, but she fails and instead, she opens her mouth to speak. “You did it. You wrote that comment—!”
“No…but I did know that it was not a catfish.” Dongyoung explains and then, he moves his hand around the office. “Everyone here thinks it is catfish so they are laughing at your responses.” She cannot help but want to erase the smile on his face. His eyes turn into crescent moons and his cheeks get fuller, adorable yet devilish. “Cute, though, your responses are cute.  I knew it was really you because you totally look like the type that enjoys movie dates and—”
“You ass.” She whispers and Dongyoung stops smiling, widening his eyes as he looks up at her. He blinks softly and then, he tilts his head to the side.
“I don’t get it. What do you—?”
“You wrote the: Click. Click. Here for the dick part in the email.” If there are a few things that she is certain about in her life, they are global warming and the fact that Dongyoung had been disrespectful enough to write such a thing. Dongyoung’s fingers reach to push the strands of his dark hair back.
And then, he speaks as if nothing had happened, but he is clearly taken aback. “I did not. Really. I am not that…creative.”
But she is enraged and she speaks without knowing exactly what she is saying. “Do you know I am a joke in this office now?!” Dongyoung scowls, rolling his eyes before trying to move his chair to continue his work but she stops him. “Dongyoung, this is serious!” Though, she is trying hard not to concentrate on the floral scented cologne he used and how it mixed nicely with the smell of his shampoo. They were too close, but she is too enthralled in her own anger.
“And I get it, I really do!” By that time, Dongyoung’s eyes are wide and scowling, looking into hers as if he does not mind the closeness between the two. “But I did not do it. I did not write that.”
“Then who was it? Huh?” She asks, not even giving him a second to respond. “You hate me, Dongyoung—”
“I do not.” He adds curtly and she scoffs.
“Come on. Let’s not lie to each other.”
Dongyoung sighs deeply. “You hate me. I don’t hate you.” Then, when he looks at her, she feels different. All this time, she had wondered why people were always so in love with Dongyoung, but now she realizes there is something…cute about the man. Relaxing. Thrilling. Interesting. “Are we done here?”
“Tell me who did it.”
“It was one of the newbies. Can you leave me alone?”
He looks quite funny when he is angry, but for the time being she pushes his seat back until it hits the edge of his desk lightly and she nods her head. “I hope you do the same thing.”
Dongyoung turns around, returns to his work and then, he whispers. “Won’t have a problem with that.”
If there was one person in the world that deserved the title of most annoying human being, it was Kim Dongyoung.
A month later, the whole dating app ordeal still follows her.
What’s so wrong with online dating? It was stupid that even matchmakers in her own company had a taboo mindset about signing up on an app to find someone. Surely, she was not finding love back at that moment, more-so someone to spend time with, but that was far from the point. She is physically and mentally tired of having to deal with people constantly reminding her of her little ‘catfish’ moment, even when Dongyoung, Taemin and herself knew the truth. Of course, love and dating were two different things and perhaps, she should just wait for both. Until then, her curse shall continue.
Nonetheless, Dongyoung is the type of person that keeps bothering her. They do not share a lot of words with one another, but when they do, more often than not they are arguing about something. There is no reason behind it, her only excuse is that she can’t stand him and whenever asked, Dongyoung always says he doesn’t, but he lies through his pretty thin lips with that nice-sounding voice of his. Not that she would ever accept that those are compliments that had ran through her head when she was arguing with Dongyoung.
When she received a notification from her phone, she wondered what it could have been but she was surprised to see that she had gotten a notification from the dating app, though she had most certainly deleted her account. However, someone—and that definitely was Dongyoung—had restored her account and paired her up with someone whom she completely did not know. Attractive? Yes. Potentially her perfect man? Most certainly…but she was, and is, angry.
That is the reason why she asks Yoonoh in such a peachy day to send her the address to Dongyoung’s apartment and he may or may not have asked her to not fight with him, but she never listens. The fabric of her tank top was beige and it contrasted with the summery day outside of her car, trying her hardest to calm down her breathing. It does not matter how great of a match the option Dongyoung gave her was, she still felt heavily disrespected. Not because he had it easy with love did he have to make fun of her!
Because that is one of the insecurities she never talks about. Her fear of not finding anyone that lasts a lifetime.
And it’s stupid…what lasts a lifetime these days? She is at blame of growing uninterested of some nice guys in the past, too, but that was not her fault. It was life’s fault, quite clearly.
Dongyoung does not live too far away and when she looks down at her phone while inside the elevator, she realizes that he lives in the very last floor. Her mind is fuming, images of the man that wore his uniform neatly to work passing by her brain and indicating that she would—quite possibly—argue with him until his ears fell off. The building he lives in is very classy and when she comes face to face with the door of his apartment, she realizes the walls were baby blue and the doors were in a bone-like color of white. Her knuckles quickly scrap the surface of his door, knocking harshly and quickly to get his attention.
Only that the person that opens the door looks nothing like Dongyoung. Still tall and handsome, but not Kim Dongyoung.
Did she knock on the wrong door?
“Ah…sorry…is this Kim Dongyoung’s apartment?”
The man ahead of her seems happy to hear say name and he presses his weight to the doorframe, crossing his arms over his chest and raising an eyebrow. “Yeah. He’s my little brother.” Oh, so he was Dongyoung’s brother. Suddenly, she feels embarrassed that she even decided to go there. One thing is screaming at him in the middle of the office, another different thing was exposing him in front of his family. “Who are you?  Dongyoung told me he was not waiting for anyone.”
She rubs the back of her neck, an awkward laugh spilling past her lips as she imagines Dongyoung spending a nice time with his brother but she had to interrupt it. God, she really is dense just like how Dongyoung says. “…A coworker of his.”
“A Cupid, then.”
“Just with no diaper.” The man lets out a laugh that almost killed her. Did she think that was a good joke? “Ah…I’m going to leave.”
“No, no!” Gong Myung denies it quickly as he grips her wrist to stop her but the touch is soon gone, placing his hands inside his pockets soon after. “I am going to tell him you’re here…you name is…?” She tells him her name and Gong Myung nods his head, indicating her to hold up with one movement of his hands before disappearing through the hallway. Sooner than later, she hears mumbling and speaking and somehow, she wants to take that time to run away but she doesn’t. In the matter of seconds, Dongyoung is standing by his door, wearing a pair of fitted jeans and a white hoodie. He quirks an eyebrow and he smells like body wash, his features showing confusion but also displaying just how naturally handsome he was.
Dongyoung releases a big sigh and then, he looks over his shoulder. “Are you going to scream at me?”
She searches for her phone inside the pocket of her jeans, taking it out and opening the app as she speaks. “I got a notification today and my account has been restored.  It says some Cupid paired me up with a guy and that guy is a client of yours.”
The black haired man squints his eyes to look at the screen, recognizing the facial features of the man in question. “I would never pair you with Matthew, though. You don’t seem like the type to like gym rats.”
“…So you did it ironically.”
Dongyoung runs his fingers through his hair, gripping on it and closing his eyes tightly. “I don’t care who you date or don’t date, is that so hard to understand?”
“But this is such a bad joke. I can’t help but think it’s you—” Yet, she is starting to believe day by day that Dongyoung is actually not that fond of her, that much was noticeable, but also that he did not care what she did with her life. “…Then who is it?”
Clearly, Dongyoung is not the type of person who speaks about what someone did or did not do, but he is tired of fighting with her and with a deep sigh, he opens his eyes to look at her. “It’s Ten. The intern. You know…he’s just…having fun with it. He thinks it’s funny.” When she is about to open her mouth to spill a bunch of insults towards the intern, Dongyoung shakes his head. “Just let it go. Speak to the manager and tell him that you don’t want your account up there anymore. There. Case closed.”
For a moment, Dongyoung is the voice of wisdom but then she is reminded of how much she had been ridiculed thanks to Ten’s wrongdoings. “But he deserves to be punished for this!”
“Just let it go.” Dongyoung says. “Breathe in and breathe out. That’s all you gotta do.”
She does as he says and then, she feels her shoulders falling out of embarrassment. “So you never did any of this?”
“I tried telling you for months.” Still, he gives her a smile when he says those words and then, he holds onto the door. “So, we’re done here.”
“Yeah…” Yet, when Dongyoung was about to close the door, she placed her hand over the surface of it and with a bewildered look on her face, she says: “I am so sorry…for being an ass for the past month.”
It was a moment in which it felt like there was a thick line being cut in between the two. They are not closer, but they are in peace. Dongyoung accepts the apology and with their goodbyes, she decides to get out of his building and back to her place. Though, inside her head, the thought of confronting Ten really goes through her head.
Crisp and warm, like a long red coat draped over her shoulders in a long winter night, with a mug of hot chocolate filled with marshmallows by her hands as she watched one of those weirdly satisfying videos on the internet. That’s how she would describe love now that she actually feels it—or kind of, really, it was the closest she could get to real love—. Matthew was his name, definitely tall and incredibly handsome, with thick and muscly arms that wrapped around her waist to give her a hug, swinging from side to side to send a smile her way before pressing his lips to her in a breathtaking kiss. He fit her like a ring to her finger, for she was opting on cancelling her date with him through the app until she got a good glimpse of him and she decided to give it a try.
One thinks that a prince charming comes magically to your life, but sometimes all it took was a certain man named Ten to press a few buttons and pair them together. The newbie had some talent, she had to admit, for her relationship with Matthew blossomed for the moment she met up with him at the local cinema and they talked endlessly about the movie soon after. Turns out Matthew knew how to dance, just like the actor in the movie, and his smile is very bright and his hugs are extremely comforting.
She prays he gives her a kiss on the first date, and he does, he was so perfectly made for herself that she thought he was the one only for the smallest fraction of a second when he presses his lips to hers. Matthew held her waist delicately, head tilting to the side to deepen the kiss and he smelled like spray deodorant and something musky, but he was so…perfect in his own way. A gym rat with the softest heart and just the right amount of mischief.
Because that was what she always wanted, a man that had her wishing for more, that had her at the edge of her seat looking for what she wanted to say next, and that’s what Matthew brought into her life. The second date was better, for he invited her to his favorite restaurant and throughout dinner his knees were touching with hers and his hand was toying with her fingers and he just had a small glint behind his eyes that told her that he was really enjoying himself. His kisses tasted even better on the second date.
She could barely get off her phone, tired but also enchanted because the man loved to send her pictures of himself when working out, posing in front of a mirror, sometimes with a shirt, other times without it. There was more to it, because he was not only hot and burned every single cell of her body, but he also made her feel fuzzy. You know that feeling you get when you drink soda really fast and your stomach is churning? She was starting to get used to said feeling and she liked it, because it came from her crush on Matthew and how he made her feel. He always asked how she was, what she was doing, if she wanted to work out with him. He wanted to have her by his side at any given time.
And two months had passed by and it was comfortable to say that they were in a relationship, but they also were not. He never said or asked for it, per say, but she swore that they gave everything to each other, including their bodies and soul. Every Saturday she went out to work out with him and every Monday they had takeout in her couch. It was not perfect, but he seemed like the last try—
Her last try with love.
And of course, there is a catch…he was not the last man she would ever have.
That night was the Boss’ birthday party. The old man did not have a wife, much less did he have children, so he normally celebrated his birthday with his employees. The pink shirts were changed for pink and white clothing, balloons decorating the otherwise very gray office in the same color scheme, there was a really pretty peach cheesecake somewhere over a table as well as a red velvet cake that someone in the office had prepared and a lot of sweets. Love was sweet, and even when the Boss was not particularly fond of dating, he still believed in real love. Everyone had gathered together to drink, eating and chatting and dancing and enjoying some time with the people they get to see every day, but she is not happy and it shows through her scowl, on the way she stares at nothing in particular, in her slouched posture and the way her knees cross and then her calves separate as she rests her elbows on her knees. Her phone is in between her hands and she feels ridiculous for taking a picture in the perfectly revealing pink dress she wore for that night and sending it to her…something.
Ex-boyfriend? Ex-hook up? Ex-something? Matthew was one of those things, but he had decided to break things off with her only thirty minutes after she got to that party. After he told her just how gorgeous she looked and how bad he wanted to have her in front of him to ravish her body. He said enough was enough—through a text—and he obviously added the fact that it was him that had ruined it. She asked if he had cheated, he said he did not…he simply said that he did not feel like entering a serious relationship when in reality, that’s all she wanted.
Because when you have a man that loves you like she thought he loved her, you just want to have him forever all for yourself. She sighs, moving the thin and delicate straps of her baby pink dress that hugged her body nicely, it even cupped her chest in a way that attracted attention to it, the heart necklace she opted to wear making her sick all of the sudden. Of course, she still has that curse that haunts her—the fact that she cannot keep a relationship is saddening and no man is ever interested in her in the way she is interested in them. Taemin has tried to talk to her, but she closed himself up for him and even when Yoonoh brought most of the food there with himself, she doesn’t want to eat. Even Ten had vexed to get her attention while offering a bottle of beer but she refused.
After all, it was Ten’s fault! He is the one that set her up with Matthew on the first place!
Suddenly, she lifts her gaze when she feels someone looking at her and when she realizes who it is, she almost wants to laugh. Again, almost, because her blood is boiling and her blood pressure is up the roof. Dongyoung is looking at her, wearing an all-pink suit and he would have looked like an angel if only she wasn’t so angry. His hair is sleeked back and by the position she is in, her cleavage is pretty much all he could see, his eyes trailing down momentarily before he sends a tight lipped smile her way. The only response she gives him is an eye-roll.
And she thinks that’s enough. It should be, to say the least. However, she hears the sound of someone sitting by her side and she guesses that it could be her Boss, considering that everyone there must be talking about her, but she is surprised when she sees a tiny glass being placed on her hand, little pink sprinkles in the shape of hearts placed on top of the cream of the small apple pie. “You should have some. They are delicious.” She knows that voice. It is calming and somehow it is melodically pleasing and it is so Dongyoung’s. When she looks over to her side, his legs are parted and he is looking at her. “Did you know Yoonoh actually did not bake these?  He asked one of his baker friends that works downtown. His name is Lee Taeyong and he has the cutest dog—”
“What are you doing here?” She asks, though she does not stop herself from picking up the miniscule spoon on the mini pie to put some of the cream inside her lips. Indeed, said baker was great with a capital G. Dongyoung seems taken aback and instead of responding to the question she asked, he says:
“Can you stop interrupting me?”
“No.” She adds. “You never talk to me. Why now?”
Dongyoung leans back on his seat, letting out a loud sigh that silently said you’re so dense, because that is what he always tells her and what he always will. “You’re just so clearly heartbroken about something. It’s none of my business, but it would be rude not to help you liven up a bit.”
Had Dongyoung ever been as enchanting as he was at that moment? Not really. Suddenly, his shoulders were broad and his thighs were great and his eyes were just two set of perfectly placed brown irises. All those things remind her of Matthew, sadly. They were completely different, Matthew and Dongyoung, but for now she can’t help but compare the two. “...Is it that obvious?” Dongyoung nods and she rolls her eyes again, opting to follow his action of leaning back on her seat but she is surprised to feel Dongyoung’s arm around the edge of the chair and he doesn’t move. Damn tease. “Okay, listen, you’re like a master of…I don’t know, love or some shit like that. Right?”
Dongyoung elongates a hum before putting his arm over his thigh, breaking the contact with her. “Kind of. I’d call it a sixth sense…I just put two people together who I think could vibe with one another.”
“Right.” She finishes. “One quick question…is it bad if you can’t make a man settle down? Like, does that mean you did not enchant him enough or…?”
“It means he is not ready for a relationship yet.” Dongyoung says, quirking an eyebrow and absolutely knowing that was her case. “I had already told you gym rat boy was not for you.”
She whines and then she presses her elbows to her knees once again. “But why not?!” She asks. “He is not superficial. He’s sweet and funny and maybe a bit of an air-head at times but he is the only man who gave me attention I wanted for the last…I don’t know, year, years?”
It sounds pathetic and it seems like it also made Dongyoung feel bad, because he took a long sip of his glass of wine before clearing his throat. “No.” He denies. “I just could tell that you were in different phases of your life…that does not make any of you at blame.”
“…And how can you know that?”
Dongyoung chuckles, his shoulders shaking and the sound of his tone like a prince’s, mighty and delicate, before he speaks again. “Because it shows in your face. You like impossibilities. It thrills you. You probably were one of those teenagers that read stories about a prince falling in love with a poor woman and they could never be together—that is just who you are. If someone like him, a natural prince charming, came into your life you’d fall in love. It was clear as day.” She feels…well, quite annoyed and judged. She isn’t like that at all, or so she thinks, the only thing that she wants to hold onto is the possibility of real love. She isn’t getting younger…and she is ready to just have someone to cuddle and kiss and love and give all of herself to. Is that so wrong? “And Matthew likes…well, girls like you. I’d say girls like you two years ago. Edgy and witty and snaps easily and always tells him the truth. You also seem like you praised the hell out of him…that is a plus for him.”
Okay, so he kind of can read minds. Maybe, he is some kind of psychic and she’s out there believing that he is that good of a matchmaker. “So we’re impossible?” She asks and she feels her heart draining any contents that she had. She promises right then and there that she will never fall in love again—that Matthew is the only man she’ll ever love.
“Yeah.” Dongyoung winces with his words and then he gives an awkward pat to her knee. “If it works for you…stop looking. Just, stop looking for a moment and someone will arrive.”
“But I am cursed!”
“That’s Taemin and his folklore tales.” Dongyoung swats his hand as if it was nothing and maybe loneliness it just one big nothing. That is why she should get used to it, to the pampering nights and the face-masks, to the romance movies and the nights wishing to have someone by her side. But she has herself. “You’re not…cursed. You’ve just found very…particular men.”
“Don’t say it—” However, he cuts her off.
“Assholes. You find assholes.” And she had once called him an asshole. Dongyoung stands up from his spot beside her, his eyes trailing down to look at her cleavage and a smirk spreads across his face. She can’t help but feel a bit powerful. Stuck-up Kim Dongyoung checking her out? She must look really good, then. “I’ll leave you alone.” That’s all Dongyoung says before turning around and going over to his group of friends. Of course, she is alone once again but somehow, she feels hopeful…
She will only admit it once: Kim Dongyoung is actually a better matchmaker than she will ever be, because he knows the downsides and the good side of love (indeed, there is only one good side to love) and it’s not so terrible to have him there to comfort her. Just then, she picks up her phone and deletes Matthew’s number, thinking that waiting will always bring her a better outcome.
Self-love is one hell of a road, bumpy and incredibly tiring, but once you finally come up with terms with how your body is, your mind works and your senses are, it all becomes a little bit easier. Sometimes, she thinks that a person’s real love will always be themselves—because you know yourself from the moment you’re born and you’ll die talking in your own head, and that’s just the way life works. Sometimes, there are things we hate that we should love and we’re the only ones who are in charge of changing that. That’s why she decides to treat herself to some pastries, putting on her favorite oversized denim jacket and just going to that one bakery where a man named Taeyong worked at.
According to Yoonoh, whose relationship is about to hit the four-year mark, Taeyong had met his girlfriend when one of his friends got some clothes done for a dance routine and ever since then, they live happily with a dog and a lot of sugar. That is far from the point, however, since the bakery is really pretty and there is a line, but it is worth it just those sweets that she had in her Boss’ birthday party. It was months ago but she never got tired of going to said place.
She’s playing with her phone when she hears the sound of someone walking up behind her, since she is the last one in line—well, was, now there is a man behind her. She does not pay attention to the man as she continues to play with one of the apps she had downloaded, occasionally looking up to see if the line had moved the slightest bit. Luckily for her, the people there were really efficient and she wouldn’t have to lose her weekend in waiting for some pastries.
That’s an exaggeration. It’s only Saturday.
When she asks for her sweets, specifically adding that special of white chocolate brownies that the worker was talking about, she picks up her baby blue box and turns around to go towards her car, but she is stopped when she collides with someone’s chest. She looks up to apologize and she gets halfway through it until she interrupts herself. “I’m so—Dongyoung?”
Dongyoung gives her an uncomfortable smile that then turns into a real smile. “Oh, hi. How did you find out where this bakery was?” She stands by his side as Dongyoung moves in line and asks the employee for some of his favorite pastries. Turns out he asks for those brownies she is just trying out today, too, but he seems quite confident about it. Maybe he was a common costumer?
“Yoonoh told me.”
“He’s good as a PR guy. I don’t know why he is a matchmaker.” Dongyoung says as he leans his hands against the counter and just then, she realizes just how veiny and pretty they were. “Have you had this place’s coffee?”
She shakes her head. “No. Is it good?”
Dongyoung nods his head, almost astonished that she hadn’t done such thing. “It’s better than any coffee I have ever had.” Then, he picks up his trail filled with his pastries and he tilts his head to the side. “Are you going anywhere? I was kind of going to eat alone…and you know, we can catch up on that whole Matthew thing while we’re at it.”
Eating pastries with her self-proclaimed enemy? Spending time with Kim Dongyoung, the man whose nose could only smell his own scent because he only cared about himself? Thinking of even remotely sitting in front of him risking an awkward conversation? “Yeah, sure.”
“That’s unexpected, really.” He says with short laughter before pointing at some table with his chin. “We can go there, if you’d like.”
“I don’t mind.”
And she surely does not mind because Dongyoung is a great listener and really rational, too. He speaks to her like a friend would and gives advice like a man whom had lived in years of wisdom. Soon, the conversation turns into interests and in reality, anyone looking at them would probably believe that they were two friends catching up and laughing. That afternoon, when she says her goodbyes, she realizes that Dongyoung does have a really pretty smile and while he says he’s not, he really is like a prince charming.
However, the little time they shared was soon forgotten and they came back to how they used to be. They don’t pay attention to one another, but there is peace. Normally, she is hanging around with Taemin and Dongyoung is always with Yoonoh—who just loves to annoy him—so there is no time for them to speak. Lately, she notices that Dongyoung answers less and less calls, that his neck is now completely clear of hickeys, that he simply looks...the same and feels the same, but there is something different. There, for a second, she wonders about Dongyoung’s status. She knows that some of her coworkers were single, but Dongyoung does not look like the type of man who would be single—probably not taken-taken, but he had to have someone.
And when she asks Taemin, asking him to keep yet another secret for her, he says that he doesn’t know but that he was going to ask Yoonoh. A day later, she receives some news telling her that Yoonoh denied telling Taemin about Dongyoung’s personal life, but someone else in the office gossiped with him about Dongyoung. Apparently, the man with the fluffy hair and cute eyes did have someone a few months ago, but they broke it off due to differences. She wonders how he does it, not show his emotions when he is clearly heartbroken, or maybe he was not heartbroken at all at the time. Perhaps, Dongyoung is so different from her and that is why he is the other side of the infinite, he just knows how to feel and when to do it.
However, that is not what bothers her that morning. What bothers her is the fact that she sat her ass down on her chair, flexed her fingers slightly to prepare for typing and she got to see her clients of the week, but she saw surprised to see a set of abs that she knew very, very well. Obviously, it was expected to have Matthew back on the dating app, but it was rather ironic that it ended up being her who had to pair him up with someone else.
And she says she does not want to pair him up with someone who is bad for him…but she kind of wants to.
A big sigh leaves her lips as she stands up from her spot and walks over to Dongyoung’s cubicle. The man realizes that there is someone there, or maybe he doesn’t, but he does not look away from his screen when she says. “Hey, would you do me a favor?” Clearly, the two were once enemies, or at least she hated him a lot, but now they were good to one another. Dongyoung stops typing and looks up at her, tilting his head to the side and trailing his eyes momentarily to her lips before nodding his head.
“Yeah, what’s up?” Dongyoung is a nice guy, the type of person who would help a coworker out, and it just shows. She leans over until they are face to face and she whispers.
“Matthew is my…customer and I kind of need you to take care of it. Pair him up with one of yours.”
Dongyoung looks like a fish as he opens his mouth, closes it, opens it again and then, only then, he finally speaks. “Jesus…okay, yeah. I will.” He breathes out and then, a smile appears over his face. “Would you be mad at him if I find him the love of his life?”
She thinks about it thoroughly, but she comes up with nothing. “I don’t think so.” She admits. Matthew was a good chunk of her life, a pretty short one, but she used to be really happy with him. Maybe, she just tried to have a chance with a man who was not the kind she needed. “But, please, use your pretty little magic on me. Like, is it really that hard to find a man who actually works for me?”
He actually huffs. Huffs, as if it was impossible to find a man that was just for her. “Give it time.”
“I’m tired of waiting.” She must sound like a brat, but she finds it easy to be honest with Dongyoung. “Please, just tell me what kind of man I have to look for.”
Dongyoung looks at her as if she was a complexity, like she was a puzzle that was too hard to solve and maybe, that is exactly what she is to men. He knows already that there is certain aura to her that speaks about power and that immediately brought attention to her, but it also brought some kind of fear to get too close. “A guy who likes a dare. Trust me, the man of your dreams will look at you from afar and then go for the win.”
Now it is her time to huff as she pulls away and rolls her eyes. “That’s stupid.”
“Yeah, yeah. Go back to work.”
Only that he was right.
“I want Yuta as my customer.”
“…In your dreams.”
“I have the perfect match for him.”
Dongyoung turns on his chair, raising an eyebrow before looking around the office. There was only one hour left until work hours were over and to be honest, he had finished with some of his couples for the day. “Again, in your dreams.” But there is a smile on his face and when she stars to whine about she had already planned his match, Dongyoung opens one of the drawers of his desk and he gets out a stack of UNO cards. “Whoever wins, gets the pretty boy.”
“Deal.”
Getting along with Dongyoung is a lot easier lately. She has learnt that the man has a good sense of humor and she has come to terms with the fact that he does deserve the title of Matchmaker of the Month. He drags a seat for her to take and they start playing a game of UNO. His concentrated face is quite cute, really, he squints his eyes and stares at her face to try to study her, but whether he fails or actually reads her escapes her. Either way, she really does want to have Yuta in her list of costumers—he was just perfect for dating! It was one of those rare cases in which she got a good feeling for a couple and she needs to make it happen. That is if Dongyoung lets her win.
It’s weird, how they don’t go out or spent time together all that much but she still feels like Dongyoung is quite like her friend. They are coworkers, sure, they see each other every day as well and that probably plays a big part on it, but he is clearly a nice person to hang around with. When he says UNO, he says with a smile on his face and when he wins, she is not really angry. Dongyoung’s gummy smile appears and it’s wide and cute, enough to lean over to slap him on the shoulder but when she does such motion, she ends up almost falling off her chair and with a laugh, she feels Dongyoung holding onto her hips to keep her from falling.
The silver of his ring seeps its coldness through her skirt and they are eye-to-eye as he continues to hold her. Her chest is pressed to his legs and Dongyoung has a smile on his face as he laughs as if nothing had happened. Just then, she realizes that Dongyoung’s hands would feel really good against her waist, hugging her and that his smile is even cuter from up close.
Cute. Very much so. That’s what he is.
“Are you crazy?” Dongyoung asks in between laughter and she doesn’t care if their Boss catches them laughing and playing around, but it is really a funny sight.
“You’re an ass. I almost fell because of you!” And that is what she will always do, blame Dongyoung for what she clearly did. It is kind of their thing, to always play cat and mouse, to live life trying to tease one another and get to each other’s nerves. That is the fun behind most of their conversations.
“You fell because you tried attacking me.” Dongyoung explains and then, when he tries to let go of her, she rests her hands over his thighs.
“Wait, I will fall if you let go of me—”
“It’s like thirty centimeters away from the ground. Don’t be dramatic.”
Yet, he still does not let go of her and as she is straightening her back, her palms dig into his very strong thighs and as Ten passes by, his body cladded by the pink button down and trousers, he let out a soft whistle as he said in his joyful and teasing tone. “Ooh, sexual tension. We love it!” After that, he adds a small growl that was supposed to be teasing and at that exact same moment, she stands up from her seat with an embarrassed look on her face. Since when was she this close to Dongyoung to just act like this with him?
“Nayuta is yours.”
“Yeah, definitely.”
To create an app was a hard task, to make it successful was even harder and of course, having an enemy in a field as wide as that was just…ordinary, yet threatening. Dating apps become more well-known by the day, when communication is only possible through a phone most of the time, and that is just what makes it so easy. That is why her Boss had invited two of his best ‘Cupids’ to one of the few parties he attended to. Apparently, there were going to be some awards given to the best-selling apps and some interviews here and there. Nothing too normal.
His best matchmakers, of course, were Kim Dongyoung and herself. The coldness of the place they were at brought some shivers to go down her spine and she got goosebumps in her uncovered arms, the golden fabric of her dress hugging her waist nicely. She tried hard to make her makeup look perfect, red lips and inner-corners popping with a glint of golden highlight. She looks…amazing in her own way, but she looks even better when is beside Dongyoung. He is wearing a dark suit and his hair is sleeked back, finally showing his forehead and his nicely shaped eyes. Their Boss was somewhere, talking to people and whatever could go through his head. She truthfully does not mind when she is having a perfectly good conversation with Dongyoung shared in between sips of wine and a lot of snacking.
Dongyoung is and will continue to be a mystery to her and she likes it. She likes the way he holds his glass of wine and how good his fingers looked, slender and quite short compared to his wide palm. Dongyoung looks at her as they speak, his eyes are not trailing down her chest because it was quite a conservative dress, but there is something about his eyes that told her he obviously thinks she is extremely attractive. It is a lie if you ever hear her say that she is not attracted as well, because there is something thrilling about having someone to bicker with, much more when he gives her one of those big smiles of his and she suddenly feels like she needs to annoy her for the rest of her days.
The problem starts when in said party they get to know two of the best matchmakers of another very popular app. A texting app more than a dating app, considering that most of their reviews consisted of unwanted dick pics and a lot of glitches. They are popular, somehow, and Dongyoung whispers into her ear when they were getting too close. Two males, elegant and people who deemed themselves as superior, reach them and then, the blonde one speaks.
“I am guessing you are the representatives of CupidOn.”
Dongyoung gives a tight lipped smile, nods his head and continues to drink his wine. Then, she clears her throat when an awkward silence ensues and sooner than later, the other matchmaker starts speaking again. “…Let’s be honest here for a second. Your app is very beautiful, very pink…but very old school. Blind dates and zodiac readings? That’s…just so…expected.”
She raises her eyebrows at the man’s words and she chuckles lightly. “It is surely better than just letting people decide. It gives some kind of…excitement, thrill. And of course, we ensure the safety of our customers.” She speaks so politely and professionally that Dongyoung feels like he is in awe. He stands behind her, looking at the two other very disrespectful men who thought they are talking to just some matchmaker. She was…well, out of this world.
“So you admit that you don’t take into consideration people’s attraction towards their picked date?”
Dongyoung scoffs. “We care about what’s most important. While we do take into consideration physical attraction, we pair them up based on how they are.”
“And what makes you think they are not lying in your little questionnaire?” Another one of the matchmakers speaks and she blows a raspberry. Working with love was surely a competitive field.
“…We do not know. Just like you don’t know if all your users are real.”
“Catfish is common in any situation.” The blonde one says and then, he gets closer to the two matchmakers. “Besides, our couples have lasted years and years on end. What do you have on your belt, honey?”
She is speechless, for the first time in an argument, and she really wishes she could come up with something quicker, but Dongyoung seems to read his mind and while pressing his cheek to the side of her head and wrapping his arm around her waist to rest his palm against her abdomen as his chest presses to his back, he speaks up. “Quite funny, actually. We are our own example!  We met through the app and ever since then, we have been happy.”
Wait…what the fuck?
Since when is she dating Dongyoung?
She met him at the office’s cafeteria while he was pouring himself a cup of coffee and he introduced himself to her when Yoonoh called for his attention. To think back of that moment, Dongyoung did catch her attention with his pretty smile and wide shoulders—as well as his small waist—but it had never gone to actual dating. They had only been friends for like…a few months, not even that much. Are they friends to start with? “Duh…uh…yeah…hah…” She tries to come up with something that sounds casual but she fails, instead, she straightens her back and only then she realizes just how warm Dongyoung’s body was compared to the coldness of the room. “I just get really flustered but me…me and my Dongyoung have been really happy ever since.”
The two matchmakers seem in awe and one of them breaks the tension when he laughs obnoxiously loud. “How unprofessional! Hiring clients instead of looking for professionals—”
Dongyoung wraps his arm around her tighter and with a smile, he says. “Sorry. We’re kind of busy at the moment.”
“I—uh…”
But Dongyoung doesn’t listen. He gives one of those diabetes-inducing smiles and then, he is off his way while wobbling with her as he continues to hold her. She stops on her tracks and that makes Dongyoung collide against her back. She tries not to concentrate on the tightness of his abdomen against her back and she releases a soft breath. “What exactly was that?”
Dongyoung takes a long swing of his wine, finishing it before sighing. “I don’t really know.” He replies and then, when she looks over her shoulder, he is smiling with his face flushed. “You like cheese?”
And it is even worse when her Boss asks her to take Dongyoung home because he can’t and Dongyoung is a little bit tipsy, not enough to be drunk, but enough to smell like wine. During the taxi ride, Dongyoung doesn’t say a lot but his presence is enough to bother her. She can only think of his smell, his smile, his very obvious attraction towards her and then, she starts to think of the times she has lived with Dongyoung ever since she started working in the matchmaking company. It all seems to fall down to the realization that Dongyoung doesn’t particularly crush on her and she doesn’t either, but there is something…and Dongyoung is a mystery, he has always been, she will always say it, he is a mystery that she knows oh-so-well and the only unknown part is the future.
You see, that is always the hardest part. Giving a step, forgetting about the million tries in dating and actually giving one single step towards the right person. It’s about waiting and knowing when to speak up. It’s all about having someone who is like an open book to you, but you can’t never quite explain what you feel towards them. But it’s immense.
And she once thought it was immense hatred towards the man, but now it’s something.
Something that shows when he is opening his door, his fingers playing with the doorknob slightly as she gives him an earful. “I need you to get to your bed safely and try not to sleep just now, in case you throw up. You’re not really drunk but…you know, just to make sure. It’s dangerous.” And Dongyoung tilts his head to the side, looking at her not-so-perfectly coated red lips and her eyes as she looks anywhere but at him. Dongyoung undid a few buttons of his shirt and his tie was loose, one of his hands holding the doorknob and the other waiting to touch her. “And…yeah…call me if you need anything!”
Dongyoung looks up and then, he stares into her eyes. “Actually, I do need something.”
She frowns, completely oblivious of what he wants. “What is it?”
“…So…I know you kind of hate me, or hated me, but I have been thinking about kissing you all night and it would be like…super romantic if I just do it, but I’m afraid you’ll slap me across the face or something thinking I’m a creep.”
She laughs. It is soft and somehow nervous but she laughs, because Dongyoung is a bit nerdy and a lot like the type of men she used to criticize because they take too fucking long to just take a step, but it is what it is and she actually enjoys the way he is. That’s what she wanted—someone who was different, who could be easily pulled apart from the others. She holds his jacket and she brings him closer to her lips, speaking against them as she smiles. “If you want to…”
Dongyoung tastes like some of the food they had at the party but he feels amazing. His kisses are delicate, not mischievous, he just simply knows what to do. He is not super passionate at the start, he is gentle and holds her waist as if it was made of glass, but then he takes a deep breath and he dives him, nose-deep, as if he was not afraid of drowning. Dongyoung is just that, a person who is sweet and selfless, comforting and relaxing. He is not afraid of water or trying, he is afraid of rejection but who isn’t? Right then and right now, it feels like a dot. A punctuation mark. A this is it.
“Stay with me.” He says after he pulls away and when she quirks an eyebrow, Dongyoung gives her an uncomfortable smile that makes his cheeks puppy and his eyes wide. “Not as in…I’ll try to sleep with you. I’m actually really sleepy and I just kissed you and it’s really late.”
And he is sweet. God, he is so sweet that she feels like there are not enough pick-up lines to ever battle against Kim Dongyoung. “As you wish.”
Ten knows.
Oh, Ten definitely knows. He spends most of his mornings at the office looking at the way those two look at one another. Sometimes, he even does so much as pretending he was going to eat one of those distasteful fruits inside the fridge to see the two talking, laughing, with his head thrown back and her hand resting on his thigh. On the first three weeks, Ten swore that they had fucked—it was just in the air, he said he could cut the sexual tension with scissors and he would lose the scissors and sure, it is none of his business but it is actually pretty interesting….but then again, they never talk much.
And then, Yoonoh tries to make him think that they are just friends but Ten knows that his left ass-cheek is friends with his right ass-cheek, but nothing more than that. He does not think that those two are friends, they once hated each other and the only step that could be taken was either peace or complete love. So he continues to study them and Dongyoung starts accompanying her home and making plans on having dinner together and suddenly, she stops complaining about how single and lonely she was, about how she was cursed and she would never find a man that loved her.
This smells…fishy.
So Ten figures out a month after that they might be dating, and it hits him like a bunch of bricks to his face because he swears that Matthew was her other half of an infinite, but that might not be it. He is actually pretty happy because Dongyoung is a mess of shy smiles and  a lot of gentlemanly actions and she is just girly with him, no longer fuming and arguing in screams, but bickering and fluttering her eyelashes and it’s…disgusting. Ten has never fallen in love but he knows that’s love.
The only person that could give him an answer was neither of those two, so he talks about it to his Boss, a bit to gossip, but also because he is genuinely curious. “…I just don’t get it. Didn’t they hate each other?” Ten asks as he takes a sip of his coffee, sitting over one of the desks as he talks to the Boss that is reading over the news that his employees give him about the couples they had paired up. Reviews, date finalizations, etc. “Like, Boss! I don’t seem to understand it! I knew they were like,” Ten gets off the desk and he sits in one chair, the back facing forward, his hands on either side of the seat. “Into each other in a sexual way…but isn’t it stupid for two people who hated each other to just…date?”
The Boss looks over his shoulder and he gives a short chuckle, looking at the couple that were not even looking at one another, yet it was clearly obvious that there was something pulling them together. “I think they never hated each other.”
Ten scoffs. “Boss, they did.”
“No,” The Boss confirms. “Dongyoung is just…very intelligent.” It is weird to explain it and when Ten listens to it, he’s intrigued. After all, love was quite a topic. “He knew how to push her buttons and get her attention, but he never quite expected her to react that way.”
“Did Dongyoung do all the work, then?”
Once again, the Boss shakes his head. “No, I feel like deep down she always thought of him, which is why she blamed him for your wrongdoings.” The man stacks the papers he had on his hands together and then he clears his throat. “But I congratulate you, Ten, you have created a couple without knowing. You’re the new matchmaker of the month.”
Ten widens his brown eyes and he smiles, one of those pearly smiles that could have anyone’s heart racing and then, he nods his head. “Cool.”
“Dongyoung—”
Dongyoung feels a kick against his leg and he groans, turning so his face could touch the cold side of the pillow and he sighed. “What?” There is a brief moment of silence and then, he hears the same beeping sound and he feels another kick against his leg. That time around, he does open one eye and he sees his girlfriend sprawled on the other side of the bed, one arm draped over her eyes and the other reaching out for him. One of her legs were over his and it was quite a weird position, but it was also rarely comfortable.
“Turn off the alarm.” And she says it so cutely that he feels annoyed. Her hair is a mess, her eyes are closed—though he cannot see them—and her lips are parted only the slightest. Dongyoung sees that her shirt had ridden up and he groans as he reaches for the bedside table by her side on his bed, turning off her alarm that she had forgotten to turn off the night before the weekend. God, she always forgets about those things and Dongyoung still asks her to come over. Tired and sleepy, Dongyoung does not move to the side of his bed and instead, he lets his entire weight drop over her body, her arms wrapping around his waist as she feels his eyelashes fluttering against his neck.
That is the thing, Dongyoung is so clearly the love of her life that she gets scared sometimes. It has only been a year since they started dating officially and it feels so oddly satisfying to know that there is someone in this world that loves her with her mistakes and without them. Dongyoung took a really long time to say those three words, unsurprisingly, but they were gladly met when he said them and ever since then, things have been looking up. Surely, they bicker every single day but they have learnt to understand one another.
Dongyoung’s shirt was in the way as she ran her fingers up and down his spine and there was a brief moment of peace before she felt him fidgeting. He has not fallen asleep yet, then. “I love you so much. Any other man would have kicked me out already.”
Dongyoung’s chest moves and maybe, it was the ghost of a laugh. “Don’t give me ideas.”
“You would never.”
“…Do you think so?”
“I really do. You love me.”
“I do.” Dongyoung confirms and then, he pulls away from her and lays on his side, fixing his blanket and fluffing his pillow to go back to sleep when he hears his girlfriend’s voice.
“I’d give you head simply for being so sweet.”
And she knows what she is doing and Dongyoung perks up at that, bunny-like eyes widening as he appears in her line of vision, covering the ceiling as he looks into her eyes. That is the best thing about having someone falling in love with you and it was that no matter how bad you looked early in the morning with your hair made a mess and some morning breath, they would not really voice it out or if they did, they would not care. It was a matter of getting used to one another. “…You would?”
“I could.” She says and Dongyoung licks his bottom lip. He’s awake. “Do you want me to?”
Dongyoung tilts his head to the side, as if pondering. Sleep or a blowjob. Sleep or getting laid. “I really want to sleep though.”
“Then sleep.”
“But can I save it for later?” Dongyoung asks and his voice is tiny, enough to make her laugh out loud and she takes his face in between her hands to press a chaste kiss to his lips.
“Anytime you want it, boo.” She continues to laugh as she teases Dongyoung and there is a faint blush over his face, but he is also laughing. “I’ll always be here.”
And that’s a promise because there were a million tries and then the best one…Kim Dongyoung. The man whom she’ll always love, maybe for a lifetime or maybe not.
That’s the exciting thing about love.

Holding Onto Hope: Chapter 59.1
Hope
Cailah Faith Brown. My baby girl… our baby girl. The “C” placed proudly by her father who insisted that some part of her name needed to have his mark on it… though she would carry his entire last name. The night Tawny, my dad, and Diana got in town they all spent at least half an hour ogling over the size of my belly because all our Face Time chats apparently did it no justice. Tawny then proceeded to spend the remainder of the night fussing at Chris and I for failing to give our child an identity. She demanded that we sit down with her and at least come up with a list of options that we could choose from the day the baby was born. But the moment she tossed that name out as a mere suggestion, I fell in love. Cailah… my daughter, honorably named by her aunt. Faith, her middle name… a direct tribute to my mother… Faith Marie Donsen. And Brown… the thought of my child proudly carrying her father’s last name filled me with envy and happiness all at the same time.
Today was officially day three past my due date and honestly, today was officially the day that I was completely over the whole pregnancy. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my pregnancy… every last minute of it. I wouldn’t change a single aspect of it, other than the months where Chris wasn’t by my side like I’d always envisioned. But there comes a point in a woman’s pregnancy, well at least mine anyway, where she’s just over the whole damn thing. I was tired of being tired all the time. Tired of feeling so ridiculously large from my neck down to my ankles. Tired of feeling so insanely in love with the father of my child, yet feeling uncontrollable urges to whack him upside the head at the most random of times. Simply put… I was tired of being pregnant and I may or may not have made the mistake of sharing that with the girls, and Tawny, because now… they had made it a personal mission to help me induce my labor.
“Let me lay it on the line I got a little freakiness inside  And you know that the man  Has gotta deal with it  I don’t care what they say I’m not about to pay nobody’s way Cause it’s all about the dog in me Mmhmmm…”
I stood in place between Destani and Tameka, hands swirling around the front of my belly, hair pulled up into the messiest bun that was tilting pathetically from the side of my head, and perspiration coating my exposed skin. The coffee table that was once situated in the center of the den had been pushed to the side, offering maximum floor space for our shenanigans. Nalay stood feet away, orchestrating our choreography and Tawny maintained a red face from trying to refrain from laughing as she held three different phones up trying to capture the whole thing on video.
“I want a freak in the morning A freak in the evening, just like me I need a roughneck brother  That can satisfy me, just for me If you are that kind of man Cause I’m that kind of girl I got a freaky secret, everybody sing Cause we don’t give a damn about a thing…”
“Dip low Sy, dip low. Don’t forget to squat. We gotta expand that cervix girl!” Nalay yelled out, coaching me into the proper positions she believed would make my water break.
“Like this bitch.” Destani dropped down to my right, into the lowest possible squat I’d ever seen, then seductively lifted her body back up with her tongue sticking out and her hands running up the curves of her torso and chest.
“Nuh-unh bitch, if you gone squat on it… fucking squat on it!” Tameka exclaimed and the next thing I knew, down she went… right into a full split. The girls howled as she bounced in place a few times on whatever imaginary “it” she’d just squatted on. Eventually she leaned her torso forward and flattened herself out against the floor, sliding her legs straight behind her and propping herself up onto her shins so she could have better leverage to twerk it in the middle of the floor.
“Nigga we tryna get her to go into labor, not seduce Chris into putting baby number two in there before number one can even make her way out!” Destani cackled.
“Meka, where the hell did you even get that from?” Nalay was now hunched over, gripping onto her knees as she laughed and wiped at the underside of her eyes.
“Ya’ll bitches better take notes… how to keep a man 101. Ask Kendrick where I got it from!” Rolling over onto her back, she did some type of acrobatic move, rolling her entire lower half up into the air and pressing her hands down on the floor beneath her to complete a roll that eventually landed her on her feet.
“Nah, nah… Sy’Diyah the one with a whole baby up in her. She the one who should be leading lessons on how to keep niggas. With Chris ole sprung ass.” Destani said.
“You ain’t lying though girl.” Tameka chuckled, breathing hard as she neared Destani and slapped hands with her.
“Um, ladies… I still have videos recording here. We aren’t done.” Tawny giggled.
“Oh shit. Rewind the song like one-minute Nay.” Destani instructed, quickly shifting back into position to my right. Tameka fell right back into place at my left and we anxiously waited for Nalay to get us back to where we left off.
I could honestly say that I was enjoying myself. I was exhausted, but enjoying myself non-the-less. Since early this morning, the girls had taken this whole thing right into the palms of their hands and personally made it their mission to get some type of activity from this little girl in my belly. Leave it to her to be a stubborn little thing and refuse to come on time… she was three days late to be exact. As I’d mentioned before, however, I was truthfully not interested in rushing her at all… mama just wanted to give her a little encouragement is all.
I continued to swivel my hips to the heavy beat of the song, courtesy of Destani’s JBL Bluetooth music box, and actually shut my eyes and momentarily lost myself in the beat.
“Boy you’re moving kind of slow You got to keep it up  Now there you go There’s just one thing that a man must do Mmhmm I’m packing all the flavor you need I got you shook up on your knees Cause it’s all about the dog in me…”
Completely lost in my own zone, I stepped away from the trio and allowed the beat to consume me and my hips. I swirled and twirled, dropped it like it was hot on whatever the imaginary “it” was from Tameka’s show earlier, and bent over to catch my knees so I could transition into a smooth twerk.
“AYYYYYEEEEE, that’s my got damn bama right there! You better get it baby mama… fuck it up girl!” Destani yelled, cheering along with the girls, and hyping me up even further. I could feel a smile gracing my face as I reached up to tug the miserable hair tie from my locks, freeing it in the sexiest of ways. My belly was completely exposed, because I no longer cared much for clothes. I was in the company of my girls tonight, so I figured there was no harm at all in a pair of comfy spandex shorts that had risen and exposed the cusp of my butt cheeks. And the only thing covering any portion of my top was a turquoise sports bra from my collection of many. I was in my element and there was no one and nothing that could stop me.
I could hear extra commotion in the room at some point, but the girls were shouting even louder and hyping me so much I paid no mind to it at all. My aunt, dad, and Diana had gone over to Ms. Joyce’s a few hours ago to help her with a few last-minute touches to the nursery and she’d already informed me that once they were done there, they would be stepping out for a bite to eat. So it was just the girls and I for the evening, and I was perfectly content with that. As usual, I had no real knowledge of where my boyfriend was and I refused to allow thoughts of that to ruin my night and thankfully the girls respected my unspoken wishes to not bring him up.
I had just run a hand through my wild and waist length tresses, swiping a handful of the golden curly mess out of my face. While that hand was occupied in my hair… the other was gripping onto Tameka’s right shoulder so that I wouldn’t lose my balance and go toppling over as I alternated between rolling my body and twerking my butt. When I felt the sudden sensation of another pair of hands right at the cusp of my widened hips and my bulging belly, my eyes shot open and an immediate frown fell onto my face.
“One to the two, to the two, to the three Sy’Diyah do you wanna have a baby with me? One to the two, to the two, to the three  Sy’Diyah do you wanna have a baby with me?” The altered verse was chanted a few more times into my ear and I could feel a rhythmic bump against my backside, matching the beat of the song perfectly. The crotch of this mysterious person was pressed firmly against my butt and I nearly gasped at the feeling of their semi hardness rubbing against me.
“Baby daddy better get that shit bih! Get it Chris, get it Chris!” The commotion in the den of the house was at its loudest now, if that was even possible, and I could hear both male and female voices yelling at the top of their lungs like we were in the middle of a close NBA game. Swinging my head around to the left, I strained my neck to look back into the grinning face of none other than my child’s father. His grin made me grin, but his crotch still pressed against my butt caught my attention again before I could fully acknowledge him.
“Ain’t I tell you that pregnant shit turns me on?” He’d wedged his face into the crook of my neck and mumbled those panty soaking words against my skin. I was thankful that my spandex shorts were black.
He maintained his grip on my waist, but I managed to turn completely to face him and held onto him the best way I could with a thousand pounds attached to my front side “Down daddy.”
He hissed sharply and chuckled against my neck then slowly pulled back and glanced down at my lips “You tryna get me riled up in front of all our friends baby?”
God I loved when he talked like that. I smirked and pulled away from him, but not before he meshed his lips against mine and puckered them three times, followed by his hands roughing up my butt cheeks a bit.
“Aye nigga, don’t let these kids see all that now. They don’t need to know exactly how ya’ll made that baby.” Dontay laughed obnoxiously as he pushed his way through the living room, beelining directly toward Tawny. She stood there smiling and biting her bottom lip bashfully, awaiting his arrival… they were so stinking cute.
“The hell ya’ll in here doing anyway? Sy, you tryna give the homegirls lessons on how to get like you or what? No lie… if Meeks gone be doing that shit on the dick tonight, she might be next up.” Kendrick set off a heavy chain reaction of laughter that rumbled through the whole crew and I couldn’t help but drop my head against Chris’s shoulder as I trembled with laughter.
“Boo, if you would have seen the shit yo girl was in here doing like half an hour ago, Meeks probably would have been first in line, okay!” Destani howled. Tameka laughed ratchetly, stuck a middle finger up at Destani, then turned to her man and greeted him with a nice sloppy kiss.
“See man, that’s that shit… ya’ll niggas is just nasty, both of ya’ll,” BJ chuckled, pointing a finger toward Chris and Kendrick, “You ain’t gotta do all that show boating to greet your woman.”
“Nigga shut yo philosophical lookin ass up!” Rashad called out, igniting a fresh batch of laughter. I was much too worn out from the hours of nonstop dancing we’d just put in to continue entertaining our over-enthusiastic group of friends, so I discreetly waddled over to the love seat, but was stopped in my tracks before my butt could connect with the seat. It was Chris who’d stopped me, because now that he’d just randomly made his appearance at the house after disappearing for hours, he suddenly wanted to be all up under me… literally. He plopped down on the couch before me and gently grabbed me by my waist, carefully pulling me down to claim my seat on his lap. He helped me maneuver my body to the side, because it was the most comfortable for me, and I ended up looking like a large child cradled in his arms from the way he held me. I smiled at the thought. It never failed to amaze me how easily he could take my mind off of my irritation with him… he made it impossible for me to be mad at him for too long.
“What were ya’ll doing?” He asked. I couldn’t help but take in the amusement on his face. His smile always made me smile.
“The girls really wanted to help me induce labor.”
“Oh okay. But… what were ya’ll doing though?”
We held eye contact for a while before we both burst into laughter and I slapped him playfully on the shoulder “I mean, what did it look like? We were dancing.”
“Oh word? Kinda looked like you were tryna seduce the girls… that shit was sexy.”
“You’re silly,” I giggled, “But while you’re asking me what we were doing, I think I’m the one who should be asking you that.”
His bright eyes roamed the room for a while before he dropped his gaze to me, absorbing every inch of my face as his tongue slithered out over his bottom lip “You think so?”
“Christopher…” I started, attempting to push myself up further to sit eye to eye with him, but obviously the task wasn’t as simple as I thought so I quickly decided to just frown up at him instead.
“Sy’Diyah?” He smirked.
That annoyed me, so that’s when I decided to face the struggle of sitting up because now I wanted to remove myself from his lap completely. He had me in a good mood for all of five minutes and just like that, I was over him again.
“Babe, wait… what are you doing?”
I didn’t respond, because I couldn’t respond, because I was too out of breath from scooting myself around and struggling to get up from his lap. He still held that same amused expression on his face and that really left me with an urge to slap him. Did he really think this was a joke? Because no one was laughing…
“Hope, I was playing. Chill out before you hurt yourself.”
“Oh, you really do think it’s a joke?” I mumbled under my breath. All the grunting and huffing and puffing I’d done to twist my body around to face forward meant absolutely nothing when he simply tugged me backwards and sat up straighter so I would at least be a tad comfortable when he meshed my back against his chest.
“I had some business to take care of.” He tried to reason, with his voice all soft and his lips pressed gently against my skin.
“Whatever Chris. Let me go.” And of course, he did the exact opposite. He held me closer and continued to peck his lips against my neck discreetly as the crew babbled on in front of us about some new movie on Fandango and who was going to input their debit card information to purchase it.
“The boys were with me, if that makes you feel any better.”
Smacking my lips and rolling my eyes, I sighed heavily through my nose and crossed my arms over my chest “So you have them out there dabbling in stuff none of you should have any business in? Seriously Charlie?”
The low rumble of his chuckle in the crook of my neck had me shutting my eyes briefly, but I quickly gained my senses and snatched them open because our position was compromising enough and I didn’t need to draw any unnecessary attention to us in a room filled with nosy spectators.
“Is that what you think? Somebody is dabbling in some illegal shit? Girl you funny… thought you knew your man better than that.”
“I thought I did too.” My words were laced with attitude and I’m sure he could sense that from the way he momentarily tensed beneath me.
I could feel his lips parting against my neck in preparation to say something else, but the newest conversation floating around the room quickly gained my attention and I strained my ears to make sure I was actually hearing it correctly…
“Well they should be out for a while, so I don’t think it would be a problem. Even if they came back earlier than we’re thinking, we’ll just make sure we’re down here to cover for them.” Tawny spoke quickly and quietly, surprising me completely because if this was what I thought they were discussing I was shocked that she’d be in the thick of it.
“Unless they go to Breezy house. Won’t it be kinda awkward in this house full of people?” Kendrick chimed in.
“Nah nigga, we’ve endured this shit plenty of times before. Them niggas is wild… the entire city of Richmond could be in this house and the homie gone still put it down.” Dontay cackled. A few of them laughed, but I could hear a few quick “shhh’s” telling them to keep it down.
“Don, what if you just let them go to your place and you just stay here? So they can have more privacy and shit?” Tameka asked.
“Meka, why don’t you fucking let them go to your place? If I’m there or not, I will still know in the back of my mind that the homie is fucking my friend into labor.”
“What the fuck are ya’ll talking about?” Chris blurted before I had a chance to open my mouth. I hadn’t even realized that he was listening, because I’d tuned in so intently I forgot I was even in his lap for a second.
“Aww shit, we ain’t think ya’ll was listening.” Destani giggled, failing to do so innocently.
“Okay, but what are ya’ll talking about though?” I asked.
“We’re just trying to help you induce this labor Sy…” My gaze shifted to Nalay in amazement… they were all in on whatever this sick plan was?
“Wait, ya’ll are all sitting down there discussing this right now?” Chris asked. I could hear the humor in his voice, but I couldn’t quite bring myself to crack a smile… were they serious?
“I mean, we just wanna make sure our niece comes… she’s already almost a week late, right? We just as excited to see her as you nigga.” That was Dontay… having the audacity to sound offended that we were possibly offended about the conversation they’d been engaging in, that no one had actually stepped up to confirm yet.
“So no one is going to tell us what you were actually talking about?” At this point I was already well aware, I just wanted one of them to say it.
“Girl we done tried everything today. We walked your ass three miles this morning, went and got lunch at that Thai place up the street from Meka house, put together full choreography for the past few hours… the only thing ya’ll ain’t tried yet is sex.”
Again, I could feel Chris tensing beneath me and his face suddenly found its way into the crook of my neck again. Subconsciously I reached down to caress his thigh, my touch relaxing him almost immediately.
“You’re seriously admitting to me that you guys are sitting right in our faces, talking about… that?” I asked with the blankest face I could muster.
“I actually found the topic a bit weird myself Sy…” Kendrick spoke up, only to be quickly popped on the shoulder by his frowning girlfriend.
“We ain’t ask you how you felt about it nigga,” Tameka fussed, rolling her eyes and her neck around to face me, “What ya’ll think about it?”
“I think we should no longer continue this conversation because Kendrick is absolutely right… it’s very weird.” I said.
“See…” Again, Kendrick attempted to speak up to defend himself, but the hard glare on Tameka’s face shut him up abruptly.
“Ugh, fine,” Dontay drew immediate attention to himself when he huffed and sighed loudly, “Ya’ll can just go to my place. I know it’s for a good cause… as long as you promise me and T can have your room Sy.”
I could feel a headache creeping on the harder I frowned. My friends had all officially lost their minds.
“Tay!” Tawny gasped, slapping a hand over her mouth as a deep blush set in on her face. I would have laughed at the sight of her wearing her shyness right on her sleeve, but I suddenly remembered a certain shy someone who still had his face bashfully hidden from everyone in the room.
“Breezy, come on baby. I’m offering you my whole crib so you can get some pus…”
“Dontay! You gone make this man pass out… you see he ain’t tryna hear you right now.” Nalay blurted, thankfully cutting Dontay off before he completed his brash statement which, as she’d stated, would very well push Mr. bashful to the brink of simply passing out.
“Wait, hol up… have ya’ll… have ya’ll even done that, yet?” My eyes narrowed in on Destani and I glared at her, refusing to respond to her or to even continue to entertain any of them and this unnecessary awkwardness.
“Charlie, don’t listen to them. They’re all crazy.” I muttered, attempting to turn in his tight grasp to face him.
I could feel him shaking his head as his face remained one with the skin of my neck and I couldn’t help but giggle when I felt his lips start to move “It’s okay. Maybe they’re right…”
This time it was my turn to tense up and gasp at the sudden realization of what he’d just said… as well as the feeling of his lips pressing softly against my neck.
“What do you mean?” I whispered. There was something extremely intimidating about the way all of our friends were sitting there staring at us, all of them smiling as if watching the best new series on Netflix. I wasn’t too keen on having a whole private conversation with Chris right there in their faces, even if we were whispering.
“You have tried everything… but that. I mean, I’ve heard that it really does work… the least we can do is try…”
I wasn’t even sure how to respond. Was he serious? Were they serious? Sure I was more than ready for this pregnancy to be over, but… was I really that ready?
For a while the crew continued to sit there, chatting lightly amongst themselves and glancing awkwardly at Chris and I every few seconds. I had hopes that by some miracle everyone had forgotten about that conversation and it seemed as if they had… until I felt myself being lifted from Chris’s lap.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“I think we should call it a night now…”

Building Bridges || Sebchel
Who: @alyricalberry & @bismythe
When: October 16, 2018
Where: NYADA, outside Florence Farr
What: Rachel runs into Sebastian outside of her classes and they get to talking.
Warnings: None
Sebastian sits outside of Florence Farr, looking effortlessly cool in an all-black ensemble that helps him appear A) subtle and B) seductive. Subtlety is the important thing for a change. He's been hogging this bench for the past hour in this exact spot (despite another pair of students pointedly edging closer and closer until leaving in a huff, score Sebastian) absolutely crushing Little Alchemy on his phone and keeping a watch at the main door to the building. Any minute Rachel Barbra Berry should emerge, and Sebastian will be ready. Of course there are multiple doors to the building, but after a few promising conversations with classmates and random students, he's fairly certain he's in the right place to catch her after whatever she does there on the weekends. Personally, Sebastian doesn't think it's any of his business when a Bloodline family produces a "lost child" to bring into the fold, but unfortunately hers is not just any family. SmytheCo. has been steadily crushing the Corcoran family since before Sebastian was born and his father - his father, a troglodyte who barely comprehends the existence of multiple social media platforms -- texted him to keep an eye on the situation, so that's what he's going to do. Sebastian pauses his game play long enough for a full body stretch and a less covert glance of his surroundings. Not seeing -- or hearing, he's been assured he'll hear her long before he sees her -- Rachel, he snaps his Xtra Patience Infused gum between his molars and settles in for another round of waiting.
Rachel had spent her Saturday mostly as she normally did, which was by rehearsing in one if the Florence Farr study rooms. It had been a tradition of hers since she’d started at NYADA. Every Saturday, two hours if vocal rehearsal followed by dance practice after lunch. It was true that her dance practice bad fallen to the wayside lately, and that was mostly because she’d developed a new habit, which consisted mostly of pacing in front of Shelby Corcoran’s office doors. Sometimes Rachel almost got the courage to knock on the door to see if the woman—her mother—would speak to her. But Rachel knew it was a fruitless endeavour. Whenever Rachel tried to speak to Shelby after a class, she would deftly sweep away, pretending she hadn’t heard her. It was clear to Rachel Shelby had no intention of ever being more than her professor, but that still didn’t stop Rachel from wanting it. She was getting to know her grandparents, which was wonderful, but there were questions she had that only Shelby could answer, like questions about her father. But Rachel could never get past that wall Shelby had put up between them. And so after having spent near an hour pacing the hall outside Shelby’s office, Rachel gave up, like she usually did, knowing she would probably never have the courage to try to talk to her mother. And today, for some reason, the thought made her more upset than usual. She quickly walked out of Florence Farr and collapsed in the nearest bench she could find, not noticing the student dressed in all black already occupying half of it. She buried her face in her hands and let out a long sigh, trying to shake off the latest wave of disappointment at how her life was turning out.
Sebastian suppresses his instinctive reaction to seeing a person in emotional distress, which is usually telling them to take that shit elsewhere. Instead he pauses his game and calls upon the same mantra he's been using for years: Fake it 'til you make it. "Hey, uh," he says softly, just enough to catch her attention, "are you okay? Normally, I wouldn't ask but with everything going on," he trails off, looking away. Sebastian can be charming when he wants to be; put him with a group of people at a party, and they'll be MagicMorph in his hands before the night is over. Sebastian just needs an opening and if Feelings are his way in, then that's just what he's going to have to do.
Rachel jumped when she heard someone speak to her. She looked up and vaguely recognized him from Tumblr, and from Blaine talking about him. “Um, hi. You’re Sebastian, right?” She asked. She pushed her hair behind her ears and sat up straighter. “I’m fine, really. Some days are just a little tougher than others with everything going on, you know with finding out I’m a secret Bloodline, and my biological mother having absolutely no interest in talking to me. It’s... a lot,” she said with a bitter laugh. “Sorry, I don’t mean to unload all this on you, I know we barely know each other,” she added, wiping discreetly at her eyes.
Sebastian blinks. "Yeah, no, that sounds like a lot," he replies, to give himself time to re-evalute his strategy. Well. That was easier than he thought it would be. He expected a little hesitation before he could tease out the problem, but this is even better. "It's fine, really," Sebastian says, and realizes he might sound too eager. He clears his throat. Slow and easy does it, Sebastian. He repeats, in a calmer fashion, "It's fine, really. Sometimes people find it easier to talk to strangers to get an outside perspective." He shrugs, opening his messenger-style bag to retrieve his toiletries bag. He takes out his Magic Refresher Towel -- guaranteed to remove signs of tears without messing up her make up -- and hands it to her. "Nice to meet you. It's Rachel, right? We're, uh, mutuals on tumblr or something?" As if he doesn't know that already. "I'm sorry she doesn't want to talk to you. I'm sure you have important questions for her. If you don't mind me asking," Sebastian begins slowly, "if she won't talk to you, how did you find out?"
Rachel couldn't help but smile at Sebastian's sympathizing with her. It was nice having someone who would just listen to her. Even if he was a stranger. She accepted the towel from her and gently dabbed her eyes. "Thank you, and yes, that's me. You're friends with Blaine, right? He used to live in the room beside mine in Zephyrus, before he randomly moved to Notos. I still don't know what that's about," she told him. She pondered answering his question for a second. He wasn't the only student who'd ask her about all the drama that had unfolded in her life lately. But Santana's video was floating around somewhere so what was the point in hiding it. "Well, my grandparents—Caroline and Jacob Corcoran, I don't know if you've heard of them?—they found out about me somehow and had me watched by a bodyguard for a while before they decided to have him very publicly announce that I was the long lost Corcoran heir. That was a fun day," she said, somewhat bitterly. "Anyways, they're the ones I have contact with. Ms. Corcoran isn't very interested in having a relationship with her daughter, apparently. But that's okay. At least I have my grandparents, right?"
"Of a sort," Sebastian replies. Even though there really isn't much to say, he figures it can't hurt to give her some extra information. "I moved around a lot as a kid, so we haven't had a chance to catch up. Notos is located in the heart of campus and is a popular place for NYADA students to socialize, study, dine, and then tuck away high into the clouds for rest. I mean," -- is he quoting the brochure? He's quoting the brochure -- "It's also pretty secure from what I understand. Not the worst move to make." He nods thoughtfully. "One of the Corcorans usually attend one of the events hosted by my family, but they're pretty attached to their reclusive mystique. I'm surprised they decided to announce it so publicly. I couldn't begin to understand how you feel." No, really, Sebastian would be mortified to find out he was a Corcoran, but that's because he's already a Smythe. A downgrade like that? No, thanks. "At least you have your grandparents," Sebastian agrees, thinking it over. So her grandparents are onboard but their daughter isn't? Interesting. "Maybe their daughter just needs time to come around. You said you were adopted, right? If your grandparents are the ones who approached you, then maybe she just needs time to get over the shock of your... introduction into Bloodline Society the same way you do. And if not? Well, what can you do? Her loss."
"I get that it's just... it doesn't seem very Blaine-like for him to have up and moved like that. He and his roommate really got along. I just can't help but feel like something's up," Rachel explained, but decided to let the subject drop. She listened to Sebastian speak and couldn't help but smile. It was nice to have someone sympathize with her and actually understand what she was going through. "I know that. I know it's her loss. It still hurts, you know? Like I'm being completely rejected by my own mother," she told him. "But I am grateful to have my grandparents, at least. They've been so nice. I take it you don't really know much about them? No one else really seems to either. Maybe that's why they wanted to make it so public, to start being seen more in Bloodline society? I don't even know. I'm still very new to all this Bloodline stuff," she chuckled. "Anyways, I'm sorry to be dumping all this on you. Thank you for listening, Sebastian. I really do appreciate it."
Sebastian shrugs because what he does and does not think about Blaine Anderson is a para for another time. "You should trust your intuition," he says, without much feeling. That's like advise 101, right? He somehow keeps his expression sympathetic as he listens to Rachel pouring her heart out. Hopefully this isn't going to be a regular thing. "The Corcorans are pretty reclusive, so what I know is courtesy of the Bloodline Magic Gloryvine." He pretends to think for a moment, hoping enough time has passed for him the idea to seem spur of the moment instead of as a the manipulation for permanent openings for future conversations that it is. "Hey, I am the master of useless genealogy trivia- I can't really help with your mom, but if you need any advice on navigating all of the 'Bloodline stuff,' I'm happy to provide assistance. We bloodlines have to stick together, right?" he says, easing himself a little closer.
Rachel couldn't help but smile at Sebastian's words. "Thank you, Sebastian. That's actually really kind of you to offer," she said. She leaned into him when he scooted closer. "I think that would be great. God knows I could use the help," she added with a chuckle. "Give me your phone. I'll give you my number and we can meet up for coffee or something? I have to be going to my next class..."

Meant to be.
February 14th, 2015
Valentines Day.
I nervously bounce from foot to foot as I stare out the glass doors that give me the view of Gracechurch St. I’m waiting on a woman, something I haven’t done in a very long time. Tonight is the first business Gala for me to attend, I was kindly invited as part of the learning section of my internship. As explained to me, tonight is about learning how to network, socialise and talk business with the men and women who can probably crush me like a bug.
I take a deep breath, anxiously flicking my loam-grey eyes to glance down at the watch on my wrist. Part of me can’t help but wonder if she is going to bail on me, she has no reason to, but maybe she decided a business gala on valentines day wasn’t her thing.
I don’t blame her, I wouldn’t want to be here either, but if she can pull through with the next few hours I do have her favourite cake in my fridge at my apartment, along with some wine and roses. I also made a reservation at her favourite restaurant for tomorrow night as a surprise. Elise made me promise that we wouldn’t celebrate Valentine's day since we have only been together for three weeks, which is understandable— It made sense to not want to celebrate the day of love when we don’t know what love lies between us.
A smile forms on my raspberry-red lips as I see Elise in a cab before she can even manage to open the door, I beat her to it and open the door before offering her my hand. She takes it and steps out, allowing her baby blue coat-dress to fall just over her knee, “thank you,” she beams, leaning up and kissing my cheek.
She’s stunning as she wears something simplistic yet so elegant. I don’t even know how it’s possible but I somehow feel like the luckiest man alive to have her hand in my own.
She looks at me with her lemur round eyes. They are seductive and beautiful. My heart nearly stops when she gazes at me— how can someone as beautiful as she, be with someone like me? “You look lovely,” I compliment Elise as she puts some distance between us and adjusts her attire. She looks so fucking beautiful.
“Thank you, how far is the walk to the building?” Elise questions as she pushes her hair to fall over her shoulder.
“Not far, right here,” I chuckle as I gesture towards the glass doors to the building I intern in and the one that is currently holding the business gala.
Elise looks up at the building before glancing over at me, “Wait, you intern for Royal London Asset Management?” Her voice is low with a hint of syrup sweetness and filled with surprise as she speaks, and I can’t help but be intrigued by her surprise.
I bite my orchid-pink lips and nod, “you seem surprised, why?”
“No reason,” Elise shakes her head as I take her hand and intertwine my fingers with hers. I don’t bother to question her, mainly because I don’t think I’m going to get an answer for what’s running through that mind of hers.
“I should be able to leave by ten and then I have a surprise at my apartment.”
“A surprise, hm?” She questions with a tone of uncertainty.
My eyes grow wide as I process that my comment probably sounds like I’m initiating something sexual. “Oh, Christ. It’s not what it sounds like.”
My mind begins to race at the thought of her getting the wrong impression or idea of me. I am not the guy who wants to just take her back to my apartment to shag or anything. Damnit.
“What does it sound like?” Elise asks and I frown for a moment, unsure how to dig myself out of this hole. Oops.
I open the glass doors for her and allow her in before I step inside behind her and retake her hand with mine, “like I was insinuating adult activities on Valentine’s Day, and I wasn’t. Not trying to lure you to my apartment in an attempt to… you know.. I’m not that guy, and I swear it is just cake and some wine.” … “only if you want.”
I catch a giggle escape her sugar plum sweet and silk soft lips and part of me suddenly releases a breath and I feel relieved.
She’s fucking with me. She knew I didn’t mean things the way it sounded.
“Are you done stuttering and stressing?”
“Are you done causing my stuttering?”
“Indeed,” she nods with a grin.
“Woman, you’re going to send me to an early grave, I swear.”
“You’re so cute when you’re all stutter-y. I know you’re not that guy, wouldn’t have come tonight if I thought you’d lure me to your apartment just for a shag.”
“I’d never,” I shake my head and look over at her to see her smiling.
✿✿✿
Elise and I have made a few rounds with talking to some people and the best part about tonight isn't the fact that this is a significant step up for my career, because of the fact, I have Elise beside me. If she wasn't here, I can almost guarantee that I would be a mess and standing by the bar with a glass of whiskey in my hand while tapping my foot nervously. I don't know what pull she has on me but she appears to keep me a little more grounded and calm. I can't tell if it is a good thing or a bad thing at this point in time. Time will only tell— Who knows where this road is supposed to lead. We have nothing but time.
“Elise?” I hear someone calling politely for Elise. My eyes flick around the area, unsure of where the person is located.
“Can we go get drinks?” Elise challenges as she tugs on my arm. I go to agree but I am stopped when I see my boss, well not really my boss, he signs my internship hours and is teaching me how to rein the business world when I am not fetching coffees and files.
He grins over at us, “Elise,” he exclaims happier than I have ever seen him, perhaps it is the alcohol or maybe he does have some sort of personality outside the office.
Who knows?
I frown as I notice Elise mumble something inaudible under her breath, “you know Jamie Cartier?” I whisper as she flicks her head towards Jamie and offers him a smile.
“Hi Mr.Cartier,” Elise greets politely, “it is a nice event you have here.”
The man chuckles, “you’re lying, but thank you for being kind.”
“You’re welcome, Harry here was just telling me about your latest global equity funds.”
“Oh, really? And what are your thoughts on that?” Jamie asks with a smirk, his attention entirely on Elise. I frown for a moment, unsure of whether I should be concerned or not.
“Well, all I got out of it was something to do with a concentrated portfolio of global stocks from developed and emerging markets, then he lost me,” Elise informs my boss and he nods his head, seeming partially amused by Elise.
“And how do you two know each other?” Jamie gestures between Elise and I and I can’t help but grin to myself.
“Elise is my girlfriend,” I proudly respond, quite liking the sound of her being my girlfriend. If anyone had told me that the girl I had been drooling over since I first saw her in August last year would be dating me, I would have laughed.
I am still quite surprised that she said yes to me over a dinner date at my apartment that I lured her to. “Ah, I see,” Jamie nods, “well, I will let the two of you go. Harry, don’t forget to network. You know some of these people, don’t waste the chances.” Jamie informs me and I nod, taking his advice.
Elise and I walk away and before I can start to question on how she knows Jamie, I am thrown into a world of business conversations about Royal London Asset Management. RLAM is a UK-based investment management company with assets under management of more than £101 billion, interning under the CEO of the company is an honour, and having the opportunity to talk business with some of the biggest CEO’s in the country is an honour in itself.

“You seem to know everyone here or they seem to know you,” Elise nudges me benevolently and I look down at her lovingly. “I can see in those effulgent eyes of yours you have something pondering through that mind. What is it?” Elise challenges as she cocks her head to the side.
“The business world is so astronomical, yet so diminutive, everyone knows everyone. If you don't —then you might as well be exiled because you are fucked."
“Wise words from a wise man.”
I lift my shoulders into a shrug, “wouldn’t say I’m wise, but I’m getting there.”
“Humble, I see.” I grin down at her and she leans up and kisses me sweetly, “I’m going to get a drink, I’ll be back in a minute,” Elise informs me and I nod, watching as she wanders towards the bar.
I glance around the room of elite businessmen and women and I can’t help but wonder if this will one day be my life. If one day I’ll be hosting these events and drawing in businessmen and women to do business with me. I wonder if this is how my life will be and if it’ll be shared with Elise.
I smile as Elise has managed to fit in and find a comfort in talking to one of the other girlfriends at the event. The moment that they introduced each other, Elise hasn’t looked my way since. I like how she fits into the social setting better than I do, she has this energy and vibe to her that is attractive and alluring. I wouldn’t say she’s a social butterfly but I also wouldn’t say that she wasn’t one. She’s like a cold glass of wine on a summer day, everyone wants to taste the sweetness but not everyone gets the chance.
My clay-grey eyes transform from their usual grey to a sudden firing red of distaste as my eyes meet a pair of languorous, rapture-blue eyes, blue eyes that don’t seem to leave me alone— they follow me everywhere I go and they’re becoming my worst nightmare. No matter how hard I try to escape this damn sinkhole of disaster, the more it keeps following me and swallowing me whole. I moved away from Cheshire so I could cleanse my soul and wipe myself clean of the devastation, brokenness and bitterness etched into the fields of gold back home. I left Cheshire to forget the memories, the good, the bad and the ugly ones. I left Cheshire to leave behind my darkest and deepest scars caused by my bravest demons. I left to get a clean slate, to start fresh and not have to worry about my cryptic past, my secrets and my sorrows. No matter how much distance I put between me and Cheshire, the demons seem to follow me, they wrap themselves around me and strangle me at my core. They slowly but surely find me, one way or another.
I dance my eyes between Elise and the bar, debating whether to drown myself in a glass of whiskey or whether to take Elise and just go home. I think for a moment or two and come to my conclusion; I’m going to do neither. There’s no point in hiding from my demons, they’re possessed to continue to find me. I’ll handle it head-on.
I make my way through the melee of the crowd and Logan’s voyager-blue eyes meet mine, “what the hell are you doing here?”
“That’s not a nice way to greet someone, Harry.”
“Logan, what are you doing?” I repeat my question, doing my best to stay calm and not cause a scene despite the fact I can’t stand the man that is in front of me.
“I’m trying to get an understanding of the business world. I assume just like you.”
I shake my head, disapproving of his decisions. “Oh, no. No. You’re not fucking this up for me. This is my thing, get your own.”
“This is my thing, too.”
“You’re going to be my worst nightmare, aren’t you?”
“Not trying to be, but I guess so.”
“Logan, do me a favour and stay the fuck away from my business shit and anything to do with my degree. Got it?”
“What about your girlfriend? Is she off limits, too?”
“Logan, I swear on our father's drunken soul–“
“Relax,” Logan cuts me off and I glare at him, unamused by the love child that helped split my family.
Of all the places of study he could have attended, he had to follow me and bring his-our- past with him. It is bad enough I have to see this love child around campus and now at business holdings. I'll be damned if I let him near Elise or anyone I care about. I have done my best to keep him away from my mother and sister, isolating him and abolishing him from all family ties around me. My mother and sister don't even know about Logan at the moment. I don't think my mother can handle the information and as for my sister, well, I am not sure what her reaction may be. It is best if I deal with the love child dilemma on my own; I have dealt with the problem for three years now, I think I can keep hiding it on my own.

I reach my apartment, and the first thing I observe is my guitar in the corner, my first instinct is to wrap my hands gently around it and to sit with it on my couch. I strum a couple chords and take a few deep breaths, attempting to discover my sweet serenity and safe haven with the sound of a few chords. I spend a few moments just letting my fingers find their way before I discover myself playing the chords to 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing,' by Aerosmith. I’m taken back to a time where music was my happy place. I go back to the times I spent in NYC at a studio learning how to play, it was a small studio but large in the dewy, mist valley-green eyes of a young boy.
As I got older, I kept going back to the same studio, finding it to be my safe haven. The owner was a loving guy, and always had his doors open to anyone that had a small hankering for music and melodies. Every Wednesday night he would close down the studio and recording area and would allow anyone that wanted to learn the fundamentals of music and instruments into his studio. He would spend hours teaching and amazing young kids with dreams of being future musicians. I was one of the few that always showed up when I visited New York, the owner always seemed to gravitate to me and the way I would play any instrument with such grace.
When I was seventeen, right before I had to start University and buckle down, I dragged my sister to New York with me for the summer, we spent most of our time in and out of different, small coffee shops and stores, and every other night we would go to the studio where the two of us would sit the owner, talk, laugh, sometimes even cry, while also playing a few chords of our favourite melodies. Without a doubt, we would always end up humming and singing along to,  'I Don't Want To Be', by Gavin DeGraw.
It seemed to always fit the scenes of my life.
Those walls' grasp more heartfelt lyrics than anywhere else— those walls' hold the character of others that will never be shared— they hold esoteric talent that will never escape. Personally, those walls' grip the part of me that I had to leave behind— the part of me that couldn't continue its journey when I came to University and became who I am today— they hold the thoughts and harmony of a seventeen-year-old who didn't have an understanding of the real world.
As I strum a couple chords and get myself lost in my melody, I can’t help but think about how in such a short period of time, Elise has become a person I never thought I needed in my life until now. I was fine on my own and single. I never knew that there was something missing from me until I met her. I don’t know if I am just crazy or if the universe put her in front of me for a reason, but she has managed to match the piece I didn’t know I was missing. It is strange and difficult to explain, hell, I presumably sound a bit psychotic. But deep down, I know there is something about her that is meant to captivate my world and change it for the better. Perhaps it is wishful thinking, but either way, I am grateful for such the short time I have been granted with her.
If it wasn’t for Elise, I would have forgotten all about my birthday two weeks ago. Birthdays have never been my thing, they are usually nothing but an emotional wreck for several different reasons. I was never the one to get a birthday party every year, and when I did get thrown a birthday party, it usually ended up in someone crying, whether it be myself, my sister, my mother or anyone else who showed up. My birthday is always laced with some sort of melancholy and fighting. There were years I didn't even see my mother because she was busy working or sorting things out. My birthday became just another day to me, something I didn't wish to celebrate once I reached sixteen. One can only take so much disappointment before it gets to a point where the plug needs to be pulled. But this year it was different, Elise found out somehow about my birthday and met me after work, she waited until I closed the store. It was the sweetest thing that made my heart melt, her simple gestures and her angelic smile was enough to revive the good birthday sensations I hadn’t felt in a long time.
I suddenly stop strumming my guitar as I hear Elise clear her throat. She must have entered my apartment quietly. “Hey,” I beam as I turn to her and place my guitar down.
“Hey, that was a nice melody. I didn’t know you were musically talented.”
I shake my head, “I’m not,” I try to alter my voice to not sound so dismissive but I can’t help it. My love for music is tainted and no matter what I do, I can’t get it back to its purity.
Elise nods and I stand to my feet to give her the proper greeting she deserves; a sweet kiss. “Thank you for coming with me tonight, I do appreciate it.”
“You’re welcome,” she replies.
“I know I am probably the world's worst boyfriend; I didn’t get you some big fancy gift. I did get you your favourite cake from that coffee shop we went to the first night we officially met and I did cave and buy you a teddy bear,” I smirk at Elise as I take her hand and lead her to the kitchen where I have her cake and teddy bear already on the counter. “I know it isn’t diamonds or an extravagant dinner, but this is all I can offer. One day I will buy you diamonds.”
Elise smiles up at me, “I don’t need diamonds or a fancy dinner, still just need you and your sweet and somewhat reserved self.”
“Mhm, you say that now,” I chuckle as she wraps her arms around me and looks up at me.
“I mean it,” Elise assures me, “so how about we eat this cake and spend the last hour of valentine's day on the couch?”
“Seems perfect to me,” I agree, leaning down and kissing her lips delicately before we part ways and she cuts the cake.
Elise hands me my plate and I guide her to the living room where she gets comfortable on the couch, “so, I have a question for you.”
“Go ahead.” Elise nods.
“How do you know Jamie?” I challenge, well aware that they have to know each other somehow considering he knew her name.
Elise grows quiet for a moment before she looks up at me, “well, we are related, he is my Dad’s brother.”
My eyes grow wide, “your family are apart of RLAM?”
“Just my uncle,” Elise corrects me.
“So, your uncle, who I intern for, manages £106 billion of assets?”
“Yes. Jamie is my uncle.” Elise informs me and for a moment I feel like my world crashes down on me. I had not intended for this to happen. Now it looks like I am privileged because I just happen to be dating the niece of one of the biggest CEO’s.
Shit. Now I feel bad for the times I thought he was a lonely man who didn’t seem to leave his office often.
“What a small world,” I murmur and Elise cocks her head to the side and looks at me.
“That doesn’t change anything, does it?”
I am not sure what it could change besides my career. Fuck.
I shake my head, “of course not, still wanna be with yeh,” I assure her with a smirk and a subtle wink,  “does this mean I get to go in late and sleep in for a change?” I joke around with her and she rolls her eyes at me, “no? Fine,” I grin, “why didn’t you tell me sooner it was your uncle?”
Elise shrugs, “I didn’t know until we were at his building. You never told me the company you interned for.”
“That makes sense,” I respond.
Elise and I avoid work-related conversations for the rest of the night, and we make the best of the last hour of Valentines Day we have, cuddled on the couch and relaxed.
