#coachlife sometimes means fitting in your own runs when you can. And that was me today. We had a morning meet indoors at #thomasjeffersoncommunitycenter so I was busy coaching all morning and helping to run the #highjump. Then after I walked back to my car afterwards I decided there was no time like the present to get my miles in. I logged 5 miles in chilly snow flurry conditions then finished up with drills and striders. I’m planning to take my first dip back into real track racing of my own tomorrow at an all comers meet. I have zero expectations after a 3-year absence from the track, it will just be to get reacclimated and get some work in. Hopefully I can run the #milerun, #800meters, and #3000meters. Nice lil pre-workout run to count as cardio for the day. Goal was to pace myself with form. I died on the 3rd turn lol. Form broke down. Had a 7'30" pace before I did. Overall still glad I push early on & even ran at all.

Busy day at the oval office , #princegeorgescountysportsandlearningcenter. I racked up some serious miles today while running two events. I warmed up for 3 miles prior to the #milerun. In the race I quickly found myself at the back - I really struggle with getting out quickly in these short races - and I was back of the pack first quarter. I moved up a little second quarter, struggled third quarter and battled back a bit in the fourth. I didn’t hit my ambitious goal of running sub-6, but 6:20 was :22 improvement over the mile #timetrial that I did a month ago when #10training started. Then it was time for a mile cooldown, some lunch, and a whole lot of sitting while heat after of kids running the 200 went off. Finally it got close enough to the 3000 to start warming up again so I ran another mile, did some drills and it was time. I decided this race was mainly for training and I had no goal in mind, so I was happy with a 12:58 result on tired legs. Finally after a mile cooldown, I could call it a day. Nine miles the hard way. But it’s all preparation for #monumentave10k and @cucb #cherryblossomtsnmiiler. Good work put in. From University Archives, a photograph of the remarkable runner Glenn Cunningham and child. 
This photograph was taken by Loyola’s photographer during the 1938 Sugar Bowl  tournament held in New Orleans, where Cunningham, the current world record holder, came in first in the mile at 4 minutes 13.2 seconds.
Cunningham, a native of Kansas, had a remarkable life and career. As a child he was badly injured in a schoolhouse fire that killed his older brother, and it was feared he would never walk again. Through great perseverance Cunningham not only walked, but became an outstanding all around athlete, and one of the premier runners of his day. After his running career ended Cunningham, a father of 12, served in World War II, earned a doctorate in physical education and, along with his wife, cared for hundreds of foster children.

I'll take it. Almost didnt do it. Was going for 20min run but did 2miles instead. The pace couldve been better, goal was 8'50. The splits was 9'50 & 8'04. Pushed the 2nd mile.
