Nomad’s of North Karnataka
We were traveling between Huballi and Belagam and we encountered Helavaru nomad, for these people traditional profession of the community entails recording births, deaths, marriages and other familial issues in an encapsulated manner, which in Kannada roughly translates to “narrate”, the members of this semi-nomadic community go about narrating histories of almost all families in villages of all north Karnataka districts. Yallappa, 56 explains, he was a second standard dropout, then he learned the trade from his father when he was young, explaining the process of archiving. Similar to other tribal communities the Helavas are also facing a threat when it comes to their practice. The age of modernization and digitization has pushed their tradition into the darkness, making it next to obsolete.

Paryaaya Kaniyoor Mutt
It was 2015 we came to explore the Paryaaya, this is a religious ritual that takes place every alternate year in Sri Krishna Matha (Krishna Temple) of Udupi. The puja and administration of Krishna Matha are distributed among the Swamijis of Ashta Matha's established by Dvaita philosopher Sri Madhvacharya. The duration of this tenure is known as the paryaaya period and the handing over of the worship from one Swamiji to another is known as the paryaaya festival. During paryaaya, the puja and administration of Krishna Matha is handed over from Swamiji of one of Ashta Matha to the Swamiji of another Ashta Matha. It takes place every two years in even-numbered years. On 18 January 2014, the puja and administration were handed over to Kaniyoor Mutt's Vidhyavallabhatirtha Swamiji from Sodhe Mutt's Vishwavallabhatirtha Swamiji.

We spent two days exploring Athirappilly in monsoon in 2012, it was a true delight for all nature lovers, the place is commonly known as the land of rivers and forests, this insanely beautiful waterfall is fed from the Chalakkudy River which originates from the upper reaches of the Western Ghats. The first day we saw from the top and the second day was an amazing experience from down. Athirappilly is 72kms North-East of Kochi and the journey time takes approximately two hours.
