Hypnovember 2019 Master List

Jesus. Jesus Christ, that’s a lot of writing. I don’t really consider myself a writer generally and this is definitely the first time I’ve written this much this quickly. I’m going to look at my word count soon, but- I think I may have written a novel’s length of words? Wow.Thanks to everyone who encouraged me during this or provided support/ideas: thinking of @daja-the-hypnokitten , @liminal-wanderings , @mr-ackerman , @spiralturquoise , @wellgnawed , @sex-obsessed-lesbian , and @hypno-sandwich especially here but there were lots of y’all who reblogged or made kind comments. I appreciate every one of them. :)

Here’s a catch up of everything I’ve written so far this month. In honor of @jukeboxemcsa, I’ve also included a HypnoBS rating where 1 is absolute bullshit and 5 is normal Tuesday night.

HypnoBS- 5. Although have only done this as a hypnotist so I can’t speak to subject POV. This kind of thing is adorable to watch, though.

My Cheap & Relatively Healthy Grocery List for College Students

Context: I had been used to eating fast food so much because it was cheap that when I went to the doctors' they said I had high glucose content. That wasnt good. So I started eating healthier. Anyway let's skip the BS and get straight into it:

Ramen: the OG cheap food. I personally don't own ramen bc I dont like it that much, but if you want to save money this is the meal, at least add an egg or some veggies to make it healthier.

Frozen Veggies: anywhere from 50 cents to a dollar or two a bag. Can easily be kept in your freezer (if you have one) for months

Mac n' cheese: my all-time favorite. Of course, it might not be healthy for everyone to eat pasta all the time, but I do it anyway. Add some real cheese and spices for taste or chicken and veggies in it / on the side.

Other Pasta boxes (Pasta Roni, Velveeta, Hamburger Helper, etc.): basically as cheap or almost as cheap as Kraft macaroni, but maybe you arent a fan of mac n cheese.

Soup (Soup!!): Cambell's Tomato soup is often $1 a can. I like to eat mine with grilled cheese. Thats a whole ass meal. But of course you can get other soups just as cheap. Basically, any canned foods.

Canned foods & veggies: this one goes without saying. Although, the better options are sometimes $2 to $3 the same can be said for frozen veggies, but just heat these up and cook them in fried rice or just add butter and eat them aside a nice entré

Chunk light tuna: speaking of canned foods, canned tuna is soooo cheap and is a great option (if you even like tuna). Dont actually get the "pack tuna" for $1 a pack unless you want to keep it in your bag bc canned tuna is around 60 cents a can. Mix it with Miracle Whip (or mayo) and spread it over break for a good sammich.

Grilled cheese (or cheese toastie if you arent American I think??): similar to previous options, youre getting your cheese and your butter and your bread. Not as healthy as other options but way better than fast food calories.

Quesadillas: similar to grilled cheese, except spICY. My brother only eats these and he has no meal plan. I do it now too. Honestly, adding up tortillas, cheese dip, shredded cheese, & chicken is kind of costly but worth it. Also cooking chicken is annoying bc I dont have time for that. But. Yknow. A great option.

Pillsbury Crescents: a little costly, about $2+ per tube, but still fookin delicious. Also imma be real: actually havent checked the nutrition label to see if these are actually healthy. But these are sO useful. Make them by themselves for breakfast (with jam, eggs, or alone) or use the dough for other recipes. I use these with Manwich sauce, cheese, and ground beef for snacks :)

Manwiches: manwich sauce cans are $1 and although they have some sugar, its not nearly as bad as fast food. Just cook up some ground beef to go with it & maybe add cheese, sliced bread, or hamburger buns

PB&J: Another OG. I could never get tired of these. You just gotta make sure you have soft bread and the pb&j and youre good to go. Although..like.. some people apparently like theirs toasted or with different jams (I like strawberry).

Eggs!!!! : Just keep these in your fridge. Just do it. You never know when youre going to run out of food. Boiled? Scrambled? Fried? Soft boiled? With ramen? Omelet? In fried rice? Egg sandwich??? Eat them with bread, eat them with toast, eat them as a breakfast sandwich, scramble them with cheese, the list goes on. If you dont eat them often, get a smaller carton, but always have eggs! Also, for baking.

Rice, or fried rice: If you like rice, have been cooking rice for a long time, and can actually make it without burning, make sure you have rice. If you like rice but have never actually made it yourself, it takes trial and error in a pot. Or just invest in a rice cooker. Additionally, fried rice is not that difficult to learn & it fits the bill for healthy bc you can add unlimited veggies and meats. Im not here to educated you but the more ingredients, the better, is how i see it.

Fresh Food:

Fruit: I literally have "an apple a day" for breakfast. It's just good for you. Keep them in your fridge to keep them fresh. Keep one in your bag in case you get hungry. Bananas? Awesome! Use them in smoothies or a milkshake or eat them with your cereal or even with peanut butter. Possibilities are endless with fruit. Just make sure they dont spoil. Apples are OG bc they dont spoil as easily.

Vegetables: Make sure to only periodically get them so that they dont go to waste. Make some broccoli with butter & eat it alongside pasta. Or asparagus. Anything you want. Just make sure to have some with your meals sometimes. Greens are good. Additionally, carrots can get addicting if yoh eat them with ranch. The plus side is they are filling. If you have a tendency to want to munch on something: carrots.

Deli Meat / Sandwich Options: I personally dont make deli sandwiches because ham (as well as roast beef or turkey) can be expensive and then wanting to add lettuce and tomato to a sandwich sounds amazing but I'm scared they will spoil. Dont let me stop you though! Sandwiches are amazing.

Meat: you dont want to be cooking meat all the time bc it can get expensive, but the basics I always get are ground beef and chicken. I prefer "boneless skinless chicken thigh fillets" but you would need to cut off the fat. You could always get rotisserie if you arent feeling to for cooking. Also, if you're feeling expensive one week, salmon is just sooo good. I ate it with asparagus and seasoned with lemon. Delicious.

Snack / Dessert Options:

(I personally don't keep snacks or dessert in my home very often bc you dont want to binge eat. But here is what I have)

Peanut butter: classic, filling, can be potentially bad if you eat a shite ton

Nuts: peanuts, almonds, cashews, and especially pecans

Cookies: make your own, a lot of simple cookie recipes exist and it's a lot easier than you think. Baking essentials like flour, sugar, milk, and eggs are not that expensive to keep around in an apartment kitchen. Difficulties may be vanilla extract (the avg student doesnt have this lying around) a baking sheet, a big bowl, and possible a whisk. Store bought cookie dough isnt too bad either.

Box-cakes / box-brownies: simple and easy. Takes a few eggs sometimes and some oil, milk or water. The same goes for pancake mix. Honestly, I had an out-of-country roommate and he had never heard of boxed cake mix or brownie mix. They always made from scratch where he lived.

Low-calorie ice cream: okay ice cream can be pretty expensive and filled w/ added sugars. I used to eat this strawberry icecream sweetened with stevia and it was SO delicious, but I couldnt find that at my grocery store. Other options are "low-calorie" ice cream or "no added sugars" ice cream. I have one of these and the thing abt it is that its just the right amount of sugar to taste like ice cream and the neat thing is that you dont feel like binging it bc it doesnt have addicting added sugars.

Milkshakes / smoothies: this is a tough one bc me and most other students dont own a blender or juicer. I personally get my smoothies from a local smoothie place that only uses fresh fruit and then I ask not to add the natural sugars bc it is sweet enough with the fruit. Natural smoothies are delicious & I find that you can kind of make then if u freeze your fruits and blend w a fork. "Handmade" milkshakes are actually super easy w this method.

Yogurt: just...mmm.

"Healthy" snack food section, often called the gluten-free aisle: im not too experienced with this and im sure they have added sugars too but what I do know is I tried these gluten free oreos once and they were delicious

Fruits: I mentioned earlier but apples are great snacks

Veggies: also like I said earlier, carrots are great snacks. Not exactly a veggie but possibly potatoes for a meal or snack.

Granola Bars: for when youre too lazy to keep up with fruit and if fruit will spoil, granola bars (they healthy kind, not the chewy sugary kind) are so good to have in your pantry or keep in your backpack for a snack (and to keep you from on campus temptations). Also I used Nature Valley ones instead of cereal. They actually dissolve and are delicious with milk, since some cereals are so sugary.

Since my last college tips post got some notes I figured I'd keep writing these advice posts. For reference, I am hoping to become an RA next year at my college, so I'm not just speaking out of my ass. I generally have experience at college thus far and want to help students.

OC background story//Secondary Characters

1: i’m aware they’re sorta boring in a sense (literally all 3/4 profile busts lol) but I couldn’t be bothered to get super detailed about them yet. I was trying to work out a look, and this is the quickest way lol. Lots of mistakes here, don’t focus on that. Just...jive with me.

2: idk that anyone is going to be interested, but i’m happy with my little babies! :) This kept me busy lol.

Long post ahead!

Okay, so the band, Adria was formed sort of by accident. None of the members thought they were really going to get anywhere and were mostly just learning to play instruments and jamming to escape the pressures of adolescent life.

Niri--her parents were very strict and proper. “Yes, sir. No, ma’am.” type people who do what they can to keep up appearances. Her father is a police detective and her mother was a homemaker after the birth of her children, but was once an attorney. They expected the same level of success from their children, having picked out career paths before the kids were even a speck in the womb. When Niri and her older brother showed excellence in academics, they moved to a new city, enrolling them in an academy that was known for churning out high level success stories--Politicians, Judges, CEO’s of major corporations...you get the drill. They were happy to practically go into debt forever if it meant their kids would be successful.

Year 1...Enter KOU.

Kou’s dad was always business first. He expected his son to be the same. So much so that the day after the birth, he went out and bought a whole building to keep for his son, the future doctor, to house his practice. Being from an old money family, there was never a shortage of opportunities to rub elbows and make a way for this kid to be a success no matter what. Through years of primary education, he was a quiet kid, but there was something under the surface that loved to go against the flow of where his life was forced to travel. His mother passed when he was very young, but she was the reason he was able to have few moments of peace and fun. He and Niri were school rivals, fighting for the top spot on the scholar’s board, but...they wound up giving up the struggle when they realized they had a lot in common and neither really cared to pursue their parents’ dreams. They stopped attending after school programs and chose to graffiti and vandalize the building Kou’s dad bought while it was still empty. When they weren’t tagging, they were listening to “inappropriate music” and that soon became them teaching themselves to play the songs on instruments they bought...with Kou’s dad’s credit card. They didn’t sound bad after a while!

One day, the pair skipped school altogether to avoid an exam they had not studied for. On their way out of the academy, they were tailed by someone they never expected would keep their secret so well...

KRISS

Kriss and Kou are cousins. Their mothers were twins, so the two share a few features, but their personalities couldn’t be any more opposite. Where Kou is a grounded, sensible person, Kriss is carefree and...kind of an idiot. His mother raised him on her own and as a very open, artistic soul, she taught Kriss to always follow his heart and his dreams. He’s basically never been told “No” in his entire life. He was a very energetic kid, so his mother urged him to try out the drums (maybe it would tire him out enough for a nap) which he ended up falling in love with. It’s one of the few things he ever really kept an interest in despite being pretty flighty with his pursuits otherwise. Once he realized what his cousin was up to, he set up a drum kit within a few hours and was glued to their side ever since.

Kriss’s mom is the only person who really believed in the band from the start. She would be a big help through their early years and to this day has a reserved spot to watch them play shows whenever she wants (usually stage right).

Did I mention Kriss was part of the percussion section of the academy band? Well, it was more of an orchestra, but still. He felt there was something lacking in their sound during jam sessions so after a few weeks, he called up a few friends.

Vash

Vash is a complete wildcard. He’s the sweetest person you’ll ever meet, but it takes a while to realize that because his personality is quite...Sharp. He has no problem speaking his mind, never has, and he’s not afraid to call anyone on their BS. Does an expert job of providing entertainment with his outbursts. His first words when he dropped by the “clubhouse” were “so you expect me to play in this shit hole?” His mouth usually got him in trouble at school so he was somewhat happy to have something to occupy his mind so his mouth wouldn’t run so often. He’d been playing music for many many years, his parents both being famous musicians themselves, so he has mastered quite a few instruments and often provides backup vocals because “none of the rest of you dingbats can be trusted to stay on key.”

He is the glue that holds everything together and his honesty keeps everyone grounded. He expects everything to run smoothly and on time, so he was made leader of the band within the first hour. It’s effortless and he keeps his cool pretty well under pressure, but the one person who manages to make him snippy is Eri.

ERI

Eri is a mess of a human being in the most endearing way. He’s a walking contradiction and he loves to push buttons. He and Vash have been neighbors and best friends since they were born. They’re the Yin to each other’s Yang and act like an old married couple, always disagreeing on the most basic things. It has never been an issue and the others love to watch a match go down. Where Vash is hands-on and always on track, Eri is laid back and couldn’t care less if something goes wrong. That’s not to say he’s not passionate about their dream, he’s just more of a “Things will happen as they happen, just go with the flow” type. His easygoing nature lends him a very grounded and rhythmic personality...perfect for a bassist. His favorite thing is spending time with friends and being able to just do what his soul calls him to do. He does, however, absolutely hate attention. It makes him feel pressured to act a certain way or do a certain thing and it just clashes with his entire vibe. He broke out in a rash when they got their first major gig and had to do a meet and greet. He loves his fans, but...can they not want pictures all the time? “I look awkward when I smile.” He really does. The boy doesn’t smile, it’s always a grimace.

Eri’s dad owns a very successful restaurant and often got the band small gigs like birthdays and weddings that he was hired to cater for. He doesn’t understand what they’re hoping to do, but hey, the kids play some mean covers of songs he grew up on. Besides, if his son is happy, that’s good enough for him.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the first few years, they snuck around and the others lied for Niri and Kou when their parents had questions. They couldn’t say they weren’t all hanging out together, so once things got real, they moved their practices to Vash’s house since his parents had all the equipment they needed and didn’t really care one way or another about what was going on, too busy with tours and things.

Once they graduated, it was harder to cover. Niri came clean to her father, her mother having found out shortly before but promising to keep it quiet if she just quit and focused on school. Her father was furious and demanded she cut ties with her “hooligan friends” immediately as she was set to go to college and become a lawyer like her mother. Niri refused and was kicked out of her home after being called a failure of a child. This only fueled her fire to pursue her dream. She called Vash, mostly to cry in frustration, but he met her at the front of her neighborhood saying “I just felt something was up with your dumb self so I came by to check. Good thing I did. Let’s go, you’re moving in with me til we figure all this out.” The two soon became three when they got an apartment with Eri two months later.

Kou had a similar experience once he told his father he didn’t want to be a doctor and had no plans to attend his father’s alma mater (which he only got into after his father wrote a very generous check being Kou’s grades had slipped to an abysmal level) he was removed from the premises by security, cut off financially, and removed from the will within 2 hours. The only thing he managed to keep (for a while anyway) was his car, so he hopped in and drove over to his aunt’s house and lived there for a while with her and Kriss.

During this time, they still had small shows coming left and right. One night after a few years of a rough grind with no money and shitty daytime jobs, while playing a local club (that didn’t even pay them by the end of the set), they met a small time producer who liked their sound and asked them to record a demo. The producer played the demo to a group of friends that called a separate group of friends and eventually their little song made it to the ears of a real band who had an unexpected opening in their roster for an upcoming festival tour. Adria got the call and had to scramble to get their set list ready. It wasn’t anything big, just a side stage gig, but the more stops they played, the bigger the crowds they drew.

When they made it home after several stops, they were met by the producer who found them, asked to record a whole album and from there they filmed a very low budget MV and soon after their first single was playing on the radio. They were asked to appear on small time local talk shows. They spread like wildfire once their second single dropped, played on stations nationwide. More MVs and a headlining tour followed with a second album set to drop. Kriss and Niri were asked to be part of a 6 episode arc on a popular TV drama and a second tour. It was a tough climb, but they’ve been at it for 15 years. Niri and Kou did go back home at one point and faced their parents, attempting to make amends and build a bridge. Kou and his dad are in a much better place now, the old building they used to play around in was transferred into Kou’s name and they now use it as their recording studio/ band headquarters.

Niri’s family reunion was a little less of a happy ending, in fact, it’s still a work in progress. Her mother apologized and they cried a little over the years missed, but her dad is a very tough man to get through to. He acknowledged he was harsh in his actions but still feels justified in what he did. He says if it weren’t for his tough love, Niri wouldn’t have felt the need to work so hard to get to this place in her life. He did at least say thank you when Niri handed him a check to cover the hit her parents’ savings took when her brother went to medical school. She has weekly calls and video chats with her mom and her brother often makes it out to shows and sends her snaps when he sees her on TV or hears the band on the radio. Her dad sometimes texts her “Heard your new song. It’s loud.” That’s his way of saying he's giving it a chance and doesn’t exactly hate it.

so you and mark have been friends for about two years

you both met on the night of your fifteenth birthday,, when you couldn’t sleep after trying for about two hours

you threw on an oversized hoodie and sweats,,, courtesy of your big brother jaehyun

you quietly ventured outside and snook around to the back of your house where there was a small park, that no one except you and your family knew about

so you thought lol

as you were walking along the path, you saw a cloud of smoke puff into the air and float away

you were beyond confused because?? who could that be??

you continued walking along the path, which crossed them anyway

when you reached them, you saw who it was beneath the black beanie pulled snugg over their head

it was mark lee

local stoner boy who got away with anything because his dad was head police officer

n e way, local stoner boy is what you called him

you always kind of disliked him

not because of something he had done

but he always seemed to have a cocky aura or something

you had never talked to him very much before until then

he noticed you standing there and looked up at you

“can i help you?”

he would never forget that night, the way you smiled at him when you introduced yourself, a real smile.

that night you literally spent like five hours up talking and you exchanged numbers ofc

ever since, you and mark would meet at that bench every other night

he would be smoking or occasionally drinking, depending on his mood

he opened up to you about the difficulties in his life amd you would do the same to him

never in your life would you had expected to see local stoner boy, mark lee, so vunerable

he would often cry on your shoulder, you was his bestfriend and he was yours.

it was when you hadn’t shown up for almost a week around your seventeenth birthday, mark began to worry

you would text him and say you had “too much studying” or you were “too tired”

you were just sick, your parents wrote it off as a common cold or migraines

your head would pulsate with pain and your vision often became blurry

but you didn’t want mark catching your sickness, so you decided to come up with excuses

bc if you told him you were sick, he would be straight to you in a heartbeat with whatever you needed

on the second week of you not turning up, mark decided to visit you

he felt quilty that he had done something wrong to offend you, thats why you wouldnt meet him

so, as he walked through the door

your parents out of town and your brother in college

he didn’t hear a sound and assumed you were just asleep

but when he opened you bedroom door he noticed you slim figure sprawled across your carpeted floor, you had collapsed

mark had seen you go through some of the toughest times, he’d seen you cry for hours on his shoulder and he’d seen you scream and shake in anger

but this sight had broken his heart into a million tiny pieces, your body was so thin and skeletal, you truly looked like death itself

his eyes welled up as he picked up your body off of the floor and went to his old tattered jeep

he gently put you in the car, afraid of your fragile state and drove quickly to the hospital

that was the day you were disgnosed with astrocytoma, also known as cancer of the brain

they had told you it was a growing tumour that clutched itself around your brain and you would need surgery as soon as possible

that brings us to here

four months in the hospital and tumour free

except you had to stay there because you needed to receive radiotherapy to make sure the tumour was dead

mark visits everyday

and its around the time he should be coming in-

“yo yo mark lee in the house- wait room?- hospital?”

“i’m a fingers length away from pressing the security button lee” you threatened

he chuckled and walked over to you

“not if i slap it away from you”

“im not paralysed mark i can just get it”

“whatever, you’re no fun” he complained

and you laughed at his whining voice as he climbed in the bed next to you

even though the bed is a single bed, mark would always climb in beside you and cuddle or just enjoy you by his side

“how were the kids today?” you say refering to the dreamies

“they wanted to come and visit with me but i told them no because you didn’t eat today and would probably eat them”

you slap him and shake your head “mark! don’t scare them like that they’re gonna think im mean!”

he just laughs at your poor hit and reaction

you had been introduced to the dreamies when you befriended mark

you and mark called them your kids because they practically were

they did come to visit alot, they instantly took a liking to you because they felt safe in your presence

“you’re ridiculous mark lee, im going to tell the security guards, the next time they see your face make sure not to let you in here”

“yeah okay, whatever y/n. you love me too much to never see me again” he made kissy noises and laughed as you also laughed and pretended to gag

as weeks went on mark kept visiting and so did the dreamies

and you had your regular radiotherapy appointments to kill the tumour

but suddenly your hearing was more sensitive, making you having to tell mark to be more quieter

your headaches came back

your vision was becoming more and more delayed over time

returning from your radiotherapy appointment, you see mark sitting on your bed and you climb in next to him

“heyyy bestfriend, how was your day?” he asks

“oh my god, martin from floor five was singing in around the ward today and i swear to god. i’m not the best singer ever but man that man is tone deaf”

mark laughed and scrunched his nose, the laugh you love so much filling the room you hate so much.

you went on about martin from fifth floors atrocious singing sessions before Dr.Kim came in and smiled at you sweetly

“hello y/n, i come bearing news”

you and mark sit up

“i-i’m afraid its not good either” he frowns at the two giddy smiles he sees before him, they are quickly turned into frowns too

“it’s your tumour, the radiotherapy was going extremely smooth until we hit a lump earlier today, im so sorry. your tumour is back and it would be extremely dangerous to operate.”

that was all it took for you to let out the tears you had built up

you were finally cancer free, a survivor.

until this news hit you like a tonne of weights straight to the side of your head

not only you but the black haired boy sotting on your left

he felt his own pool of tears stream down his face as the doctor walked out

you shook in absolute devastation and shouted

flailing your arms around in hope to release your anger

as mark pulls you close to him, his arms wrapped securely around your waist and your head pressed to his chest

his head lay ontop of yours and he pressed small kisses to your hair as you cried for what seemed like years

he whispers small encouragements into your ear but you knew it was over, and so did he

his voice cracked with every syllable spoken, he truly was terrified.

over the next days mark stayed there with you, you knew it was because he was afraid

everyone was now

it was just one day

when mark had gone to the hospitals cafeteria to get a muffin

you really started to feel sick

you could barely see straight and by the time mark came back

your lips were stained red and pale from where you had coughed up blood just minutes before he walked in

he dropped the muffin and ran to be by your side

immediately handing you tissues and wiping the blood from your chapped lips

“hey, hey it’s okay” he would say as he got up frantically to call for a nurse

“m-mark, don’t. please don’t”

he would be so confused, wanting to get you help as soon as it could arrive

but you were too tired of fighting

you just wanted to spend the next minutes with the person you loved

“w-what? y/n you need to be helped, i-i don’t understand” he would stutter as his eyes welled up and he slowly walked over to your side

he grabs your hand and kisses it softly, scared of you breaking

you shake your head gently and just smile

“just, sing for me mark”

you lay back and turn your head to face him

smiling weakly

he would be so heartbroken

but he knew how much you loved his voice when he sang

how soft it would be

how raw and full of emotion it sounded

so thats what he would do

sing your favourite tune as the tears streamed down his sharp cheekbones

you also crying, never thinking you’d be in this position

after he would finish

he would sob and apologise for not noticing sooner how ill you had become but you just closed your eyes, becoming too weak to keep them open

“m-mark, listen to me. take care of the dreamies for me, let them know i love them and i’ll always be right by their side. and as f-for you mister mark lee, my bestfriend, my whole wide world, the love of my life. p-please look after yourself, acheive your goals and promise me one thing” you open your eyes to look at him

“anything” he responded with a shaky voice and a sob that broke your heart

“continue to grow and love after me, it’s all i ask for. i want you to enjoy your life, even if it’s not for you, do it for me” you smile and then cough violently until you can barely see straight

mark reaches up and strokes your hair as a small sad smile etches itself onto his lips

“i love you y/n, you will forever be my angel. it’s okay, you can rest now. go to sleep y/n, i’ll see you in my dreams yeah?”

your eyes close, for the last time

he kisses your head gently and sobs into your shoulder

IVF Transfer #1: 41 weeks pregnant

Did you know you can be 10 months pregnant? How about 10 and a half? Because for first time babies, the average length of pregnancy is 41 weeks and 3 days. (We did not know this.)

Logically, I know how averages work, and that I should have been prepared to have my baby at 41 weeks and 3 days, or even later. Emotionally, I’ve been having a breakdown in slow motion since we passed our “due date” (absolute bs) a week ago.

Here’s what it’s like to be 41 weeks pregnant:

I’d always heard that people who go past their due date think the baby is never going to arrive, and didn’t understand why that would be your reaction. But now, as with so many fertility/pregnancy tropes, I get it. It’s not like a hyperbolic expression (”this baby’s never going to come out lol”) – I’ve literally been starting to fear that this is an indication that something is wrong, or that there never was a baby in there in the first place, and that after all this I won’t get to have a baby after all. I know this is irrational. I don’t know how to convince my brain that it’s irrational. I wonder if this is common for people who’ve gone through infertility. I feel totally insane.

I’m already two weeks into my maternity leave because I was terrified of not being ready in case the baby came early (ha). I'm anxious and bored because I can’t distract myself with work, and can’t stop thinking about the leave time that I’m “wasting”. Everyone keeps telling me it’s not a waste and I should enjoy this time and when the baby’s here I’ll wish I could go back in time to when I had nothing to do, but that’s like when you’re in college and grownups keep telling you to enjoy it because after college you have to be an adult – doesn’t really work in the moment, does it?

Speaking of everyone, a big hallmark of going past your due date is every person you’ve ever met texting you on a daily basis to ask incredulously if you’re still pregnant. I know they’re trying to help (and on some level, it does help my mental state to have people checking in), but it just adds to the feeling that there’s something wrong with me and that I owe everyone an explanation for why this is taking so long.

The pelvic pain. My god. I wish I had the words to describe this. Well, I guess it feels like a large baby head is resting on my pelvis at all times. It started as discomfort maybe a month ago and has progressed into constant pain. I can’t sit comfortably, especially for long periods of time. I can’t lay on my back because then my organs get crushed. Laying on my side feels ok but then is excruciating when I have to shift positions or sit up (because it moves all that weight right back on top of my poor pelvis). My pelvic bones now click when I sit up, apparently because ligaments are loosening and they’re just rattling around in there. I know, gross. I keep telling myself this is all part of my body getting ready – it’s a good thing if my ligaments are “loose” (ew) – but see bullet #1.

My fingers are swollen, like everyone said they would be, but they also hurt; I’m not sure if this is because I’m predisposed to arthritic joint pain or if this is a normal late pregnancy thing for everyone.

I’m so mad at my husband. Just all the time. He’s trying his best (and he’s been really an angel throughout this whole pregnancy), but there’s unfortunately not a whole lot he can do to make me more comfortable or less crazy, and I think we’re both just out of patience at this point. TEN MONTHS IS SUCH A LONG TIME.

I’ve been going into the doctor weekly since 37 or 38 weeks, and at 39 weeks they started doing a weekly non-stress test (”NST”) where they make sure the baby’s heart rate accelerates when he moves, and an ultrasound to check his size and my amniotic fluid. I think normally you don’t start doing this until 40 or 41 weeks, but because I’m “advanced maternal age” (omg 35 so old 🙄) they started early. I have my 41 week appointment today, and will have to talk to them about scheduling an induction – they don’t like you to go past 42 weeks, especially if you’re over 35. Look ladies, I don’t like to go past 42 weeks either.

I had always thought of induction as a no-brainer, like an easy out once you get tired of being pregnant, but there really don’t seem to be any of those when it comes to fertility and pregnancy. Everything has risks, so you end up constantly weighing pros and cons and never knowing if you’re making the “right” decision. Apparently if you get induced, it can mean more pain, longer labor, higher risk of bleeding, higher risk of other interventions which each carry their own risks for you and the baby, etc etc. So, while the induction is tempting because it would give me a hard date to look forward to, I’m still hoping this baby decides to show up on his own.

Yes, there are also “natural” induction methods. (Wow, you can really tell how grouchy I am by how many quotes I use in a blog post, huh?) Most of them – eating dates, drinking raspberry leaf tea, acupuncture, suppositories – don’t seem to have any real evidence that they work. And the ones that do have some (low) rate of success are incredibly unappealing. Are you ready? They are:

A membrane sweep, where your doctor “separates the membrane that surrounds your baby from the lower part of your uterus down by your cervix“. It’s painful, can lead to non-constructive contractions that just make you uncomfortable and unable to sleep, can break your water in a way that requires emergency medical intervention, and doesn’t work the majority of the time.

Sex, which everyone recommends but then immediately follows up with the caveat that you probably don’t feel like having sex, and when they were pregnant they either couldn’t bring themselves to do it, or they did it and had a horrible time (everyone I know who’s managed to do it in their final weeks of pregnancy only did it once, which should give you an idea of how fun it is). Also, this doesn’t work the majority of the time.

Nipple stimulation. I swear to god, if one more person suggests this, I’m going to... I don’t know what. But I would really like people to stop suggesting it. First of all, stop talking about my nipples. Secondly, I can’t imagine anything less annoying right now than someone stimulating my nipples. Thirdly, this doesn’t work the majority of the time. Fourthly, when it does work, it’s after stimulating nipples for TWO HOURS PER DAY.

The whole thing is really kind of funny, isn’t it.

And that’s that. I’ve been pregnant forever. I’m not complaining. I still feel very grateful to be pregnant. But it’s weird how even at this point, the actual “baby” still seems hypothetical. I hope he becomes real soon.

[I didn’t want to make this post too long, but I’ve got more to say, so...]

[[Also I want to clarify that I’m not vague-ing at anyone currently in my life. A post about fatphobia reminded me of a thin cis gay guy who lived in my apartment and was fatphobic, and apparently I still have a lot to say. So this is a general post, but inspired by shit he said/did.]]

[This is a rant but I’ve tried to break it up some for legibility, sorry for the length]

It doesn’t matter how many body positivity posts you reblog or body positive things you say, if you still call yourself “fat” when you mean “ugly”, “unhealthy”, “lazy”, “undisciplined”, etc..

If you still think that being thin is inherently better, and that thin people are inherently more healthy, more attractive, more disciplined, etc..

If you think that eating some fucking cookies or a slice of cake or skipping a day at the gym is going to make you suddenly 100lbs heavier and look like me (and that that would be terrible), then you must really think that little of me-- you must really think I’m fat because I just didn’t do all the “superior” shit you did, rather than, you know, half my entire family having a bigger build than you do to begin with and then I got depressed while at college for a semester and food was one of the only things that made being alive feel good so I gained like 40+lbs and then spent a year trying to lose that weight and failing no matter what strategy I used because my body RETAINS weight in a way yours apparently just doesn’t. And then I decided that I’d rather be happy and have less stress in my life than be thin just to be thin.

Also, like, people always say “exercise and you’ll feel better!” but I’ve never really experienced that. When I played sports I just hurt myself a lot, and when I went to the gym I just got tired. It didn’t make me feel “better” whatever that’s supposed to mean.

So it’s great that being thin is possible for you because going to the gym feels good, and you feel better when you eat healthy. I experience that on a very small fucking scale. Beyond that small scale, those things do not feel good to me, or improve my day.

((and since people ALWAYS respond to this with “but you have to do it consistently before it starts helping!!” I know, and I’ve done that, and it didn’t help. Not after a few weeks, or a few months. I’m not willing to suffer for more than a handful of months doing the same repetitive and unpleasant thing on the vague hope that it will improve later-- that literally sounds like a version of Dante’s Hell to me, so fuck off))

So...

Imagine that the only way to be thin was to do stuff that did NOT improve your life, and that did NOT make you feel good.

If you’re a person who benefits from lots of activity, imagine that being thin required you to NOT do that. It required that you HAD to be sedentary for WAY longer than was comfortable for you, every single day.

Now imagine that you go to a doctor and the doctor says “yeah, we did a ton of tests and you’re really healthy” despite the fact that you’re not thin and you’re not being the daily suggested amount of sedentary (because that’d be uncomfortable for you). But everyone keeps telling you to be thin, because then you’ll be “healthier” despite the fact that you’re already scientifically medically healthy.

Why would you change your life to be uncomfortable, just to be thin? Especially when you’re already healthy?

This is where I’m at.

And also, the notion that changing things in my life (like dieting for example) that I know from experience would trigger my depression would somehow make me more healthy... is laughable. When my mental health gets worse, my overall physical health does a nose dive.

But the other half of this is that even if I WEREN’T healthy, that’d be none of your fucking business, and would not have an effect on my worth as a person. AND that being thin doesn’t necessarily mean you ARE healthy, so the whole premise is BS.

Basically, in order to actually rid yourself of fatphobia you have to take in and really understand that fatness is not the problem. It’s not gross, it’s not ugly, it doesn’t mark someone as being unhealthy, it’s not the embodiment of laziness or lack of discipline, and fat people aren’t people who were just like you but ate too many cookies.

The way you relate your own issues with your own body and weight to an overarching message that fatness is always bad and should always be avoided when possible is harmful to others (AND to you).

Put in the fucking work.

I, and other fat people, have to put in work constantly to not hate ourselves for existing, because the culture of fatphobia blames us for existing and says we shouldn’t exist. There are plenty of people who literally believe that we are an epidemic, and that we shouldn’t be able to reproduce. And here you are, supposedly our friends, supposedly our allies, claiming body positivity, while at the same time fighting tooth and nail to not look like us for no other reason than that you haven’t put in the work.

I don’t have a problem with people who exercise for health and because it feels good to them, who like how their body feels when they’re in shape, etc.. My problem is with people who believe that thinness = health, and thinness = attractiveness, and thinness = moral superiority. If you go to the gym because you’re afraid of being fat, you need to examine why you think that’s such a bad thing to be. Like, I’m not telling you not to go to the gym, I’m just saying put in the self examination WORK so you’re not a fatphobic asshole when you get OUT of the gym.

Also also:

If you are thin, you do not have “internalized fatphobia”. Internalized oppression is what happens when members of an oppressed/marginalized group are taught to believe the bigotry thrown at them, and internalize that hate toward themselves.

Which is to say, a fat person believing that their fatness makes them lazy, ugly, worthless, etc..

With fatness/thinness this is somewhat more complicated than with some other issues, because many people who are thin perceive themselves as being less thin than they are, and hate the perceived fat that they don’t actually have but believe that they do. However, in most cases there is an understanding that they are not actually fat-- that they simply “FEEL” fat. This is NOT internalized fatphobia, this is just straight up fatphobia, because you aren’t hating yourself for being a fat person, you’re hating the concept of becoming fat-- you know, like me.

Today I got pulled over for the first time for running a red light , when the officer pulled me over, as he was getting off his bike I took my seatbelt off (I know, now that I think of it, it was such a stupid thing to do, but it was my first time being pulled over and I didnt know how to react). So I go to the left and the left and gas it a little bit, I was going like 10 mph as I was taking off, and the light turns yellow, I cross the crosswalk, then the light turns red and I drive under the set of lights.. These 2 bike cops came immediately after me... So long story short, it was my first time being pulled over, I took the seatbelts off, and I ran the red light because there was a guy pulling into a parking stop right in front of me and I was too worried looking around afraid I was going to hit a jaywalking tourists.
