Chapter 4: Crowley walks Aziraphale home and they talk about his punishment. Crowley helps Aziraphale to see things creatively. Invitations are extended. Rescues are required. We get a glimpse at Crowley's home.
I had a very busy week last week and then got sick. But, I'm doing my best to keep the promise I made to myself to write and post a chapter a week. 💜

Me @ me: I don't think you can call something a "side-quest" if it is an arc that has lasted an ACTUAL year.

Really nice bottles of, y'know... if you just go through there, yeah... the Amontillado. That vintage. Just so. Down that hallway that also happens to have yellow wallpaper. Yup.
No don't worry you'll see it in a moment. There're also illustrations of rye near the floorboards. The floorboards that definitely don't have a heartbeat. You're *nearly* there-
What, what are you pausing by the curtains for?! The curtains are clearly just blue! Sometimes the curtains are just blue! Just keep going! Why are you yelping like the doorknob's burned you? Like I keep it at 451 Fahrenheit. Yes once in a blue lagoon you have a point but not this moment, man. Yes, the free Amontillado, again, because I'm The Giver, all magnanimous, me, you'll get there, just keep walking.

*sigh* author has no chill. Not the rarepair everyone apparently wants (yet?) but -
Bix & Melshi. Potentially eventually Bix/Melshi. Not even going to try to pretend I have any goddamn clue what these two are going to do as the story unfolds.

Me, yesterday afternoon:
Tumblr media
I would like to thank my sister for noticing the absence of said gift when I first ran out to the car.
This is a very accurate illustration, right down to the color of my watch and hair tie. Although I have to admit that I wasn't wearing a super cool dress, just a homemade cotton weave skirt and community college T-shirt that both happened to be lovely shades of blue. But the skirt contained several different shades, and the shirt was yet another, so they were easier to just merge into a super cool dress.
The gift happened to be the loveliest shade of blue I've ever laid eyes on, but that is beside the point.

I have difficulties with word retrieval, likely due to complex PTSD
It sucks. Speaking to others, even people who know me well, often makes me feel anxious that I won't remember the right words or won't be able to express myself well, and makes me feel embarrassed and unintelligent when I inevitably struggle.
Sometimes, when I'm speaking and can't recall a word, I ask for help. It's embarrassing, but less so than if I use the wrong word. I have a terrible memory but remember most of the times I've used the wrong word in a group setting. (Which, thanks brain, I could do without.)
It's extra frustrating because I'm also a writer. It would be funny if it weren't so damn [another word that's like frustrating but not that word because I don't want to reuse it but 'annoying' doesn't feel right and neither does 'upsetting'].
When I can't retrieve a word, my brain feels uncomfortable. That sounds weird but I can't think of another way to explain it — and not in a difficulty-with-word-retrieval way, it's just how it feels. Unsettled, almost, until I can find the right word.
I used to get hung up on the words I couldn't recall when I was writing, would spend time googling, scouring a thesaurus for an alternative, usually with unsatisfying results. One NaNoWriMo a few years back, I started something different — I'd write the closest word I could think of, highlight it, and move on.
It worked wonders, so I've continued to do it.
Very little of what I've written has been published/posted for general consumption, in part because I have a general aversion to editing because while I'm an excellent copyeditor (it's not bragging if it's advertising, right? It's not my main job, but I do freelance copyediting), I'm poor at developmental editing, so my few finished works have been languishing in my Dropbox folders. [Short break to remind you to backup your work to save you time, headaches, and heartache.] Because of that, I can't say if this strategy will be helpful in the long run, but it works for now.
There have been a lot of 'use the modifications you need' and 'make allowances for yourself' posts. I wholeheartedly agree with those posts. But this is not one of them.
No, this post is me publicly laughing at myself because I decided to read through a temporarily shelved WIP and saw two different color highlights, one my usual substitution-yellow, and another bright green. At first didn't remember what the green one was for. Then realized it was because I had started that WIP during NaNoWriMo 2022, and had to separate all hyphenated phrases because MS Word treats them as one word but I counted each word individually (except for hyphenated prefixes and the like), but I wanted to be able to quickly find them when I wasn't counting the words I'd written.
It was a great idea at the time, just not something I remembered after time had passed. (I didn't do NaNoWriMo this past year; I might have remembered what the green highlight meant if I'd had — or would have independently come up with the same idea a second time (poor memory, remember?).)
So this post is also a PSA that — in addition to reminding you to back up your documents and reminding you that accommodations are good — reminds you that if you do make accommodations, or any kind of notation, really, that isn't immediately understandable without context, make a note with the context/explanation and put it with the document or item that has the notation. Or keep a separate note with all the notations you make, if you make multiple. Just, make the note. (Unless your retention skills are excellent and you never forget anything, in which case I'm jealous and hate you a little more than a little bit but I'm also happy for you.)
