Nothing like having to rework a 15k fic because you realize the story would tell better in a different pov 🫠
#im fine really im just... great#i've already been rewriting this fic but then i had an epiphany the other night and ugjddbjsbxjdhdjc#this is my make or break moment for this fic#because if i change pov then 1.) it flows much better with chapter 2 like a lot better#and 2.) i can backtrack a bit and add in more before the main bit and add that little tibit i cane up with the other night#BUT then 1.) i will have to cut some parts that dont have the new character in them which#kinda makes sense because they focus on the other character's relationship with a different character but this story ain't about them#but also 2.) adding the little tibit might completely change the whole entire story from this one little thing#but but but!!!! it makes the main two characters so much compelling/interesting because now theres another factor#in their relationship that was out of their control and happened way before they got tied up in each kther with sero stakes#just!!!!!!!! ishdisbdjdnjdhxjdjddjdjdj#this is what happens when your consistently writing a fic for almost 4 years...#its the Ingenuous because what other fic would it be honestly this fic makes me so unwell#i have put my ALL into this fic and i mean ive broken myself down into this fic and its a monster of something so i dont even know#ive written so many lines that i genuinely have to put everything down and stare at the wall for a while#im so close#im so close to something of an ending and yet im still far away from everything in-between#the Ingenuous#the fic that haunts me and i let it#virus rambling

i've been seeing a lot of falsettos posts recently deconstructing the fandoms beliefs and firstly
holy fuck thank you, i try to steer clear of fandom (and fandom-izing thereof) drama but this is getting a lot more visible recently so here's some little tidbits for you
whizzer brown is not an unflawed character!
okay so i haven't seen enough dissecting this but!!! in the chess game!
the whole point of marvin using that game to determine the ending of their relationship is because he suspects whizzer is constantly deceiving him and wants to prove it.
whizzer LITERALLY proves him right!
he asks marvin to help him along (yes i know he says he doesn't want help, hear me out, it's a little more complex than that) and takes advantage of the fact that marvin is- like- infatuated with him.
he draws him into a sense of false security then starts throwing accusations at him ("since you need a man!" "what?" "who's 'brainy'," "or witty, move.") until hes able to win, which he does with ease because he's been using marvin having this idea that he isn't smart against him.
of course, marvin's side of this isn't the best either but honestly, for once the fandom should focus on a different character when they think 'insane asshole'. typically we should also probably change our perspectives a little to be more unbiased cuz fr guys, this is getting really.. annoying.
i understand he's the most visibly flawed but that doesn't excuse constantly picking the worst parts of this musical (without other context, btw) to use against him.
and this post certainly isn't here to excuse anyone either i've just got a lot of opinions that i wanted to share while falsettos is.. trending? right?
2. marvin's (headcanoned but still somewhat researched) autism
this one isn't brought up as much but when i do see it around, it's kind of a skewed viewpoint.
while rewatching bits of the proshot i realized a lot of different neurodivergent traits that he shows-
he's helpless during I Never Wanted to Love You and is childish and regressive when he's upset (not every autistic person is like this either, i know this is a bit of a touchy subject so i just wanted to add that).
usually when people depict it i see it either toned down or joked about which is fine when all in good fun, and when its done respectfully.
not here to attack anyone, just here to point it out and say that yes :) he most likely is neurodivergent, but despite that his actions aren't condoned. he's still kinda a dick who needs to get his shit together
3. ..the lesbians also have shit going on?
just putting this out there- I DON'T SEE ENOUGH FOR THE LESBIANS! OR TRINA!
the girls in this musical are like thoroughly neglected and i think that's kind of shitty just assuming the fact that william finn put them in to demonstrate how gender roles put people in degrading positions (and he even makes it more prevalent by showing marvin as something like a misogynistic character who forces whizzer into more feminine roles to show the audience what woman have to/had to go through in society).
anyways, the lesbians aren't just there guys. they have a plotline too. in Something Bad is Happening, you derive a lot from charlotte singing about the outbreak of HIV/AIDS and realize how she operates on a daily basis (she's passionate about her work and takes every bad day as a hit to her life and career, explaining in a way that as a black, jewish, lesbian, FEMALE doctor in this time, everything that goes wrong is immediately brought down on her so much more than it would as any straight white male pharmacist-).
cordelia on the other hand has to handle the fact that her girlfriend is so adamant about her work ethic that she can't actually be super present in their relationship at times like that.
but either way she still sticks by her and is constantly trying to be supportive and endearing despite feeling like she's not amounting to her gf who's basically a hero in her eyes.
i kinda just wanted to bring that up because they mean a lot to me and they don't get enough love from the fanbase, thank you for listening to my TED talk <3

aah, I wish Jacob had been allowed to talk more about 'truth and falsehood' on the show. I know he was never gonna give specific spoilers, but it seems some fans are still in denial about Louis being an unreliable narrator at all. The fact that these kinds of discussions were happening behind the scenes suggests the cast knew from day 1 that something about season 1's narrative was false or misleading, they just didn't know exactly what.
Yeah.... I saw some posts around^^. (And the podcast host also pointed out that Louis was an unreliable narrator...)
I mean, it kinda feels like some kind of "gag order" has dropped away, because Jacob (and Sam) have been very blunt about that (and the Loustat relationship) in the last few interviews, but actually the fact that they all were discussing (and therefore knowing) what was true, and not is, actually, nothing new:
"Whenever I talked about something that Louis had said or that was in the script, because this show is Louis’ recollection of events, Sam would just be like, “Lie. Lie. That’s a lie. Did that happen? Is it real? Didn’t happen that way.” Very unhelpful for my preparation. [Laughs] I got really icy about it a few times. “I don’t want hear this. I have to believe something is true.” It’s nice be able to believe what you’re saying."
That's from October '22.
So the fact that he is, in fact, an unreliable narrator (or misremembers) and the reason why he changes some things stands in the room with him...
Like, if you watched the first season, and heard Daniel calling bullshit again and again, and saw him literally destroy the narrative of the last part and did not get any of the hints that are strewn throughout the show... then you simply haven't been paying attention.
And I know, there's so many layers. So many other - important! - stuff to focus on. Racial conflicts, patriarchy, power dynamics, cheating. The list goes on. But ultimately... this will be their - Lestat's and Louis' - love story, and this has been re-iterated in these last interviews, as well as that they're following the books, and... well.
POV changes, revisits and changes of perspective (and being called out for lying, too) are part of the books.
It's just that some fans don't want to apply this to Louis, for representative reasons I believe.
But... as Jacob put it so nicely in one of the last interviews:
"Something that can get misunderstood about representation is that all representation has to be good representation. It's important actually that we don't show a queer couple as a monolith or a Black character as a monolithic thing. I love that the show is willing to explore the multitudes of that relationship."
A lot of fans don't want to see the "bad" in Louis, or Claudia for that matter (and I use "bad" here very loosely, because there are no "bad", or, for that matter, "good" vampires in the chronicles). The hate I've gotten for pointing out weaknesses or simply flaws in the narrative, or when their behavior didn't make sense to me - or when I interpreted it differently in the light of later books... was off the charts at times. And I fear a lot of people will have a very hard time with the shifts that will come in soon.
But... they've been hinting at that since the beginning. And yes, they've obviously known, too. (And I would argue they would have needed to know which scenes would be revisited - and, honestly, Jacob's comment above does hint at that, imho.)

While I think the revival of Leverage is not as good as the original (not bad, but just not as good), I think the character of Harry Wilson is one of the best ideas for the show.
Harry fills a somewhat similar role to Nate. Not in the sense that he is the protagonist or the mastermind. Instead, he’s the inside man. He’s the character that has been in the system that the team is fighting against and was very good at it. Unlike Nate however, that fact eats Harry up. Sure, we get mentions about how Nate hates himself, especially in season one. He hates himself because he put so much work and time giving money to a company that ultimately doesn’t care about the lives of people. But that’s also being kinda broad. After all, the main source of grief is that he put so much effort into the company that killed his son. That’s the focus, and much less so about the fact that the company probably destroyed a lot of lives. That’s not a bad thing inherently. After all, Nate is always framed as the good honest man regardless of the situation he’s in. He’s this moral rock for the rest of the team in a lot of ways before everyone else grows a conscience.
That’s then where Mr. Wilson comes into play. He also worked for a not very good company. But unlike Nate, Harry did do horrible things to people. He protected the rich from the poor they stepped on. And he was good at it and well versed in the ways of an evil lawyer. And when he realizes the consequences of his actions, that eats him up inside. Importantly, nothing happens to him. He did his job well. Sure, he’s divorced, and he doesn’t have the best relationship with his daughter, but he’s also largely made peace with that. What makes him join team Leverage is that he saw the destruction that a monster just left in it’s wake only to realize that was the path he just walked.
The same role as Nate, but an incredibly different way. And this is true in a lot of ways. His emotional arch is moving past his own negative emotions, like Nate. Except Nate needed to move past his anger so he could move on with his life. Harry needed to move past his guilty so he could realize just how much good he could do as a lawyer. Harry and Sophie are confidants to each other just like she and Nate was, but Harry and Sophie’s relationship is very much not romantic. Instead, Harry is the only people Sophie can talk to about her troubles without the preconceptions about what the old team was like (Yeah, Breanna is new to the crew, but she was also aware of them before joining). For fairly obvious reasons, it’s clear why they didn’t bring Nate back to the show, but Harry is a grade example of making a character that fits into this save spot on the team while still being there own separate character.

Amanda Young x Reader
Warnings: blood, gore, angst, betrayal, choking, sad with a happy ending, slow, mentions of character death, self harm, blades, anxiety, longer fic, pov shifts kinda, also it’s mainly Amanda’s pov just cuz
Summary: you find out Amanda is a serial killer the hard way, by falling into a trap she made. You survive but does your relationship?
A/n: suggestions are welcome as long as they’re nice, also not proofread
Amanda missed another one of your dates because of her job, which, you don’t know anything about. You were hoping she was just some high level agent if you were being honest. It would explain the natural muscles and bad-assery that was your girlfriend. That’s also why she keeps getting cuts and bruises you tell yourself.
You at least knew that they weren’t from self harm, they were too scattered to be from that and you can somehow tell when Amanda hides self harm scars. It’s like a sixth sense, telling when she’s in danger.
You got the feeling more than you’d like too, but it was a little different when it was caused by Amanda herself. She seems more satisfied with herself sadly.
You just want your precious girl to be happy and safe, even if it’s only been a couple of months she’s your entire world. It just kinda happened but at this point in your life Amanda was the only person you talked to other than the occasional phone call from an old friend once a year. You were just floating right now with Amanda being your rock to tie you down and you, hers.
You convinced her to go on anxiety medication. Well, she refused to get a prescription (she can’t go to the doctors after Dr. Gordon) so she kinda shares your prescription both well aware that’s not a good idea but it does seem to help her and you would do anything for her.
The downside is you aren’t taking your prescribed amount and your next appointment to try and up the dosage, so one pill does the trick for both of you when you split it in half, is months away. You yourself are falling, you can feel it. You keep telling yourself that you gotta just wait it out and take it one day at a time for Amanda.
Right now you’re driving home from work in the rainy city. Your apartment is not Amanda’s yet but what little free time she has away from work is spent there so it might as well be.
A particular bolt of lightning hits a little too close for your liking and the booming thunder after it chills you to your bone. You don’t feel so good.
You try to just focus on what’s ahead while steadying your breathing. Traffic is light on the outskirts of the city, the small complex is right on the town line in a small patch of woods next to one of the parks.
You hate outside dark, outside dark is open and anything could surround you on all sides. You run up to your floor and flick on the lights but to no avail the darkness still remains. Your stomach is tight as a knot at this point, really wishing the owner allowed candles or that you had remembered to buy more batteries for the flashlight.
You grumbled to yourself, thinking you should just go to bed early. So feeling your way through the pitch black apartment, you stumbled a total of three times and now have a stubbed toe. It was a great fucking night that’s for sure.
Your bed offered little to no relief on your aching post-work back but the exhaustion was taking over rapidly. You shuffled a little to get comfy but then heard a creak of a floorboard.
“Hello?” You called out. Nobody answers, why would they. “Mands is that you? Come on you know how scared I get babes. Not the time to do this shit,” no response and yet another creak. You were still though, it couldn’t have been the bed which never makes much sound anyways. You sat up now and try to train your eyes to the darkness, no moonlight was there to help.
You frantically open the drawer to your dresser and procure a weapon Mandy gifted you for protection, boy were you great full now. You couldn’t tell where the thing or person was so you waved it about hoping it would get them.
Your eyes started to adjust and you saw a figure in the corner, once it realized you could see it, it lunged forward at you, sticking you with what you assume was an anesthetic by the lightheaded feeling making it hard for you to push them off. Your screams were muffled with a hand, you tried to bite them but it felt like you were swimming in syrup. Eventually everything just stopped as you lulled backwards.
The figure swooped you over their shoulder and took you out of your apartment, stuffing you in the trunk of a car pulled of to the back of the building.
Amanda’s POV:
She really did feel awful that she had to cancel another date, she knew that whenever she did you just stayed at work later in hopes to distract yourself. She knew you understood but if you knew what was really happening she’s not sure the understanding would still apply.
John called her in with a special request, no details were given about this person and she wasn’t even the one to kidnap them. All she had to do was come up with a new trap. She thought it was like a test to see if her engineering skills have gotten better as well as her “moral” compass. John always was better at tinkering than her and John had found out about her previous unwinnable games so this was most likely just a checkin to see if she would deter again from the purpose.
She blames herself, if she didn’t get all trigger happy with the traps she wouldn’t be missing another date night. She triple-checked to make sure this game was beatable but not too easy, John doesn’t like it when they are too hard orrrr to easy. It was a comfortable in between but definitely still very much challenging. Whoever plays it would have to give up a lot of blood to live if they aren’t careful. It was a solo game, that’s all that was required for this one.
She really hoped that this would be done quick. So while the trap might have been beatable, the timer was set to go off probably fifteen minutes before it should. Good luck to whoever plays this, she hopes they’re pretty bad or else the guilt will eat at her for the rest of the month. Sometimes John picked stupid targets that didn’t do anything bad necessarily as much as he believes it with his “solid” ideals. Maybe after John dies she can hand everything over to mark and move far away from this hell city with you. As much as she wants to, she needs to take care of John for the time being. He’s practically her father at this point.
With the trap finally finished she hands it over to Mark who’s been oddly quiet in the corner. He had a smug expression nobody liked, he was up to something.
“Hope you didn’t make this one unbeatable,” he laughs. He never cared if they were or not before so she’s a little put off, assuming he’s just teasing her for her screw up with John.
“Yeah, yeah,” she mutters and turns around to pick up her stuff. She just wants to get home to you so bad.
“Hold up,” Mark stops her, “John wants you to watch live with him. She groans in response.
“Fine let’s get this over with,” and with that they leave.
It was the same old set up, a rusty building. She definitely didn’t like the idea of having to get a tetnus shot. She hates needles, preferring to sedate people using chloroform or with blunt force to the back of the head.
She split ways with mark, her going to the observing room where John was already.
“Hello Amanda,” he croaked smugly.
“What is with you and Mark, you guys act like you just got the president?”
“They certainly are important but no, they are not the president. I can’t wait to see your work on them, I’m sure after our talk this trap will be exemplary?” He tilts his head upwards. She awkwardly laughs, his questioning gaze makes her slightly uncomfortable.
“Should be,” she mutters.
“Well then let’s begin.” She turns on the cameras to see marks back covering the kidnapped. She yawns but when he moves away it cuts off with a choke. She really hopes her eyes are deceiving her, she still can’t see much of the face but everything else looks exactly like what you were wearing this morning. They really need better cameras but money is tight in the Jigsaw business.
“So, I didn’t ask before but what’s the name of this one?” She starts to panic, please don’t say your name, please.
“I thought you’d recognize Y/n?”
Everything shatters, she doesn’t know what you could have possibly done to deserve this so she assumes it’s her fault for going against orders.
“John please, you and I both know she doesn’t deserve this. She isn’t cruel I would know she tells me everything, I put a tracker on her all she does is go to work!” She’s pleading for your life right now.
“I know, this is for you though. Even if she has done nothing she lacks the understanding you and I have of our message. The only way to understand is through this method. If she doesn’t make it out than she’s not worth it anyways, she didn’t fight hard enough for you.” His explanation makes sense but what happens when you don’t. She already knows you’d fight for her as hard as you could, she doesn’t need proof of that. And honestly she was content on hiding this part of her life from you forever.
Oh god, you must have been so scared, your about to be terrified when you wake up. She’s torn, she could get you and risk everything, Mark would kill both of you anyways and John might let it happen too. She has to painfully wait it out.
“I can see your worried, rightfully so, this is good. I promise. We do good for the world, and I’m doing good for you.” She wants to strangle him but she just breaks down sobbing. She sees you moving on the monitor in the corner of her eye and her breath hitches; you’re awake.
Mark had left the room and made no attempt at sticking around. He probably went home like the two of you should have.
She didn’t want to watch but she needed to see how you progressed. There was a collar on you’re neck that squeeze a millimeter tighter every five minutes, which originally would have killed you in an hour but she adjusted it so it gave you forty-five minutes. It’s incredible how cruel life can be. She threatened somebody’s life more just to get to you but now she might not get to you because it’s you who might die.
There was no audio but she could see all of the panic by the way you tensed, she would hate herself forever. You were not completely an idiot, thankfully. You checked all around you immediately and then found an envelope eventually in your pocket. The next thing you found was the tape recorder taped on the underside of an old table.
She had no idea what it said or how helpful the hints would be. She always debriefed John on how to disable the traps because his favorite thing was to record those tapes, so she let him. Her stomach jolted when she remembered your device cut into your neck as well. It wouldn’t draw blood until the thirty minute mark but blood loss was an added motivator to get the player to hurry up. She could tell you wanted to throw up when you heard something specific on the tape. Most likely that you would need to mutilate yourself more to find the key hidden inside your body. She had no idea where mark put it but she did know that your entire body had to be cut so you wouldn’t be able to tell exactly where it was put in your body just by looking.
You were then most likely searching for something sharp to preform the painful process of self-mutilation. She knew that the key would be put somewhere easily accessible at least given the time limit. You found a knife behind a pipe and you stared at it.
You hesitated, now what not the time for contemplation, Y/n.
She saw you sit on the ground and feel around for any foreign objects under your skin, when you paused and then continued to feel a specific spot right over your heart she went whiter than she had been.
“I didn’t tell him to put it there,” John muttered. He wasn’t worried for you but maybe a little for Amanda’s sanity. He thought she would be handling this better, he had to remind himself that this was in her best interests. He needed to make sure you were perfect for his little girl.
She just stared blankly at the screen. It had been 25 minutes already, you had just enough time to gauge the key out but you were looking worse for wear and had to be very careful with the cutting. You now had your shirt off and we’re biting down on it as the blade sliced your skin where the cut already was. You were shaking, barely managing to get the key.
By the time you got it out it was only 2 minutes left which you used to unlock the death collar. You threw it with whatever might you had left to the other side of the room.
When the timer was finally up the collar snapped tightly together. You where bleeding everywhere, but still stood back up to greet Billy the Puppet as he wheeled in to the now open door. Again she had no idea what he was saying to you but you looked right at the camera and ran out the door. She could hear your footsteps come closer to her room.
You burst in with a newfound strength and yelled as well as you could with a sliced neck,
“Amanda are you okay, oh my god I was- are you hurt? Oh-“ you stopped and looked around her, John was still there but what really confused you was that she looked not only completely fine, but that there were monitors with the room you were just in on them.
“Before you go allow me to explain,” John spoke up, “you my dear have been chosen to help revive humanity. What that was, was a test. You passed and now appreciate life. Amanda here did not know about you, however, she did make the trap. If you join us then, you too, can spread an appreciation for life.” Your eye twitched and you looked back and forth and back and forth and then collapsed.
Amanda ran to catch you, this was from blood loss and probably you finding out she was a serial killer as well as working with the man who now not only gave her trauma but you too.
You knew how fucked up that ordeal made her, you know how badly her nightmares still are. What you didn’t know was that even though she’s mentioned feeling more alive and slightly grateful that she herself would become the thing that she feared.
“She passed. I’m gonna patch her up, she just needs time,” Amanda sniffled, tears finally poured down her face. You were still here, she would never let you go again. She dragged you out of there and back to her room where all her medical supplies were, and she started to patch you up, kissing each stitch despite it getting her bloody too.
When she was done she laid you to rest and started to come up with things to say to beg you to stay when you inevitably break up with her. She doesn’t know if she can let you go but she realizes it’s ultimately your decision. She’s already hurt you so much.
Twenty minutes go by when you awake to Amanda holding your hand. Your eyes aren’t open but you desperately wish that none of that was real. The aching and stinging pain coursing through you was a dead giveaway that this was real. You peeled your eyes open to a greatfully dim room, Amanda’s room.
“Your awake,” she states.
“Were you gonna tell me if the Jigsaw killer didn’t put me in that situation?” You asked. She didn’t want to lie anymore
“No… but I wanted to forget about it myself. I just wanted to spread the message until John- the Jigsaw Killer died. I was gonna runaway with you so we could live happily. I would never miss a date night again and yeah, you wouldn’t have known about that but I couldn’t lose you. I never wanted this at all, I just didn’t want you to leave me. I will never ever hurt you again. I technically owe John my life and in the process of repaying him he treated me like a daughter more than anyone before. I know you know I’m sick but it’s so much worse than that, I care about you both so much. I would have gotten you out of there but the man who put you in there, Mark, would have killed you anyways. I know I am a sick person, I will never pay enough for this but please don’t leave me, please! You are the only thing that makes me feel normal and sane. You can leave when your better if you must. But if you are willing, we can work together, the idea is insane but you and I are proof that it works. I want to live life again and live it with you please.”
You look at her and your eyes gloss over, you have no idea what the hell to do but as much as you hate it she’s all you’ve got too. Everything is screaming at you to just run away to the hospital and get their asses arrested. Everything.
Except your heart.
You fought to live for her, you could have waited for death rather than living through this trauma but you fought to see her again and when that puppet told you she was here you had the exact same look of horror still plastered on Amanda’s face. He’s right and you know it, you want to live more. Maybe you’re more fucked up than originally thought.
“Okay” you say
She tilts her head afraid to ask you to continue so you do for her.
“I can’t leave you, but I don’t want to be a part of this idea for awhile,” you wince, “I need time to think that over but I know that after everything I still just wanna be held by you. I’ll stay…” you pause, “I don’t forgive you right now but if you ever lie to me again I will leave faster than that stupid puppet can wheel into a room. I know you wouldn’t hurt me on purpose, but it’s going to take a bit till I can trust you again.”
She finally lets go of a breath she’s been holding in since she met you. You’re gonna stay with her even though you know everything and went through it.
You’re staying.
“Yes, now come on into the bed I’ve had an insanely long day.”
“Anything for you”, she replies, kissing you softer than ever before.

seeing that tag '#geto is growing on me' is bad for me as well BC ONCE (or like if) u decide to write yan gojo x reader x yan geto.....its over for me. do u hear me lock? its. over. for. me. u'll have to attend my funeral
i am. EXTREMELY tempted to make golden girl (and its yandere variation) exactly what you described. in one of my brainstorming sessions™, i was mapping out the relationships MC would have with the other characters and i realized the potential for post star plasma vessel arc was crazy. i'm still undecided on if MC will participate in the mission (i'm leaning toward her not, because there's no way toji wouldn't have killed her if she was there, thanks worm man), but the aftershocks? whew. whew boy.
MC's first year and second year will have a heavy gojo focus. the third year will delve more into her relationships with geto and shoko. gojo and geto both dealt with their tragic experience with riko very differently, which is what i want to explore. they both withdrew. geto withdrew into himself, gojo withdrew by making himself unavailable to those he'd been close with (whether he realized it or not).
this leaves MC in a tough spot. she wants to help her friends, but there's only so much you can do. shoko makes a point that "you shouldn't save others at the cost of losing yourself." this piece of advice goes unheeded. since gojo is often physically absent (and when he is around, he's different than she remembers, monopolizing her time and attention), but then there's geto. grief makes sense to her, more so than whatever gojo's deal is. so she tries pouring into geto.
since there's nothing i love more than dramatic irony — MC's attempts to convince that people are worth protecting, sorcerer or not, actually solidifies his position further. MC went through an existential crisis herself about something similar, only for her conviction to strengthen by the end of it. she thinks sharing the thought process that helped her will help geto. it kinda does at first. and then geto realizes this is the 'trap' that keeps jujutsu sorcerers forever stuck in the thankless cycle of exorcising until they die.
now, when he looks at MC, he sees the sweet, idealist morsel that the world loves chewing up and swallowing. he develops this weird preoccupation with proving to her that the world he envisions is better, in hopes that'd get her to come to her senses.
first year MC: almost dies due to jujutsu politics second year MC: +2 kids obtained from toji's defeat third year MC: accidentally helps kickstart her best friend's supervillain arc
graduation cannot come faster!!!!!!!!!! someone help her!!!!!!

As utterly beautiful the Richonne renuion was, amd they deserved it don't get me wrong...It's just their love making scene is EXACTLY what I imagined it what it would like for Carol and Daryl. I mean exactly, from the fear, the overwhelming emotions to the point of tears, the hesitation and finally letting 12 years of burning lust and desire break threw all the barriers and they would ravage on another. We have for years talked about when they have sex the scars they both have would be kissed, we talked about Daryl being afraid to the point of trembling like he couldn't believe she was real and finally in his arms..If they do go Canon I hate to see a copy cat scene smh 😞🥺 Maybe they could play it like two fumbling teenagers, unsure, nervous and giggly...laughing and setting the mood light only for it to turn into passion later?! 🤔 I dunno...I hate to even talk shit about the The Ones Who Live 1x4 cause man was it powerful and beautiful. Danaii outdid herself writing and direction 2 the episode,no one knows the characters better then her and Andy..They our both powerhouse actors, see the charactersto go from enemies to lovers and face so many obstacles and just falling deeper in love is so beautiful, but to also show how hard it can be and things aren't always what we expect them to be. But despite the setback and heartbreak you keep fughting for ezch other. ANYWAY COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC 🤦🏻‍♀️MY ENTIRE POINT WAS, Where you also kinda sad about the Richonne lovemaking scene? With it being pretty much being exactly like thousands of caryl fanfic, and was what we all expected when they are finally intimate that's how it be?
To be honest, I've been staying away from all the towl discourse due to how quickly it turns into a ship war where everybody is trying to invalidate everybody else. I'll say this though (and nothing further unless or until it ever feels safe again to discuss). To me, apples are apples and oranges are oranges. Richonne is Richonne and Caryl is Caryl. They have completely different histories and I'd expect there to be plenty of nuance even if they both hit the same story beats at times.
For Caryl, there's a lot of trauma that goes hand in hand with their sex lives. We can infer that Daryl has guarded himself for a lot of his adult life and Carol has had to survive, serve, or maintain control, but sex with each other would be an entirely new experience for them because it would be about expressing how deeply they love each other and how completely they trust each other. I think Daryl would be hellbent on making it good for Carol and she would allow herself to be vulnerable/taken care of. We wouldn't see her leave in a hurry afterward like she did with other partners. She'd stay in his arms. Fumbling like teenagers maybe would've made sense in S3 of the flagship show, but their relationship is far too mature for that now.
I'll do a more in-depth post on sex where I can just focus on Caryl without making any comparisons, but hopefully this answers your question for now.

Can you write a head-canon where Stanley Snyder and y/n go on a mission, and y/n has a panic attack, so Stanley has to calm her down. one-shot that shows how different characters from Dr stone would react to y/n having a panic attack. Lol thanks!!! 😁
hello beautiful! Ngl I kinda got confused on what you wanted me to write so I wrote a scenario on Stanley helping you through a panic attack so I hope that works lol. If you want other characters or you want me to rewrite it please send another request. Thank you for your patience and hope you enjoy!💖
Stanley helping you with a panic attack 💕
Taken before Kingdom of Science came to America
There were a couple of people who were trying to rebel against Xeno, so you and Stanley were sent to deal with them. The two of you have been having trouble with your relationship lately, between him constantly working with Xeno and barely paying attention to you to the differences in views between you two. As you walked together there was an awkward silence only you seemed to mind. “What are we gonna do when we find the rebels?” You ask even though you know the answer. “Kill them probably.” You look down, disappointed and disgusted. As if he could sense your change in mood, Stanley says, “Maybe would could just take some captive…” You sigh. At least he’s trying to be better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You both approach the rebel camp. You look around and see so many familiar faces. The woman who helped you sew the outfits for everyone. The man who dreamed of being one of the best guitarist there ever was. Even the old lady who would do her best to remember her old baking recipes from the past. Your memories sink in. You really don’t want to do this. “Keep your guard up. I taught them basic self defense so they should be a decent fight.” You can’t respond to that. These are people you know and some you can even call friends. You can’t fight them! You won’t! Your heart begins to race. You start to sweat. You lean against a tree for support. You can’t catch your breath. Damnit why is this happening now!? You can’t breathe. Try to think how can you control your breathing? “(Y/n)?” Why is Stanley spinning? You thought he was attacking. Should you be attacking? Come on- “(y/n)!” Stanley rushes over to you. With his shout the rebels scatter away. “(Y/n) speak to me what’s wrong?” “Pa-i can’t- Sta- tack-“ He takes one of your hands and places it on his chest. “Do you feel my breath? Try to follow its rhythm.” He inhales then exhales at a calm pace. He does it again and again and again. Over a few minutes, you start to breathe normally again. The world isn’t spinning anymore, all you focus on now is the man you love. “Wait…Stanley I’m sorry I didn’t mean to let them get aw-“ “Why didn’t you tell me?” You have him a confused look. “Tell you what?” He tries to calm himself before he speaks, not wanting to upset you. “Your attacks. Why didn’t you ever tell me about your attacks?” You look away from him, not able to handle his anger and disappointment. You didn’t know why to be honest. You and Stanley have shared everything together. “I…because… I just feel like I couldn’t…” Now this is shocking news to him. You thought he would be offended or even angry, but the look in his eyes only showed guilt. Has he really made you feel so alone? He cups your face and makes you look at him. “(Y/n), I…I’m so sorry. I never meant to make you feel like you can’t talk to me. I’m always here for you! I- what can I do? How can i make you trust me again?” His reaction really shocked you. You’ve never seen Stanley cry yet you’re watching him tear up. You’ve never seen him struggle yet he looks so desperate right now. “Please (y/n), whatever you need to get off your chest please tell me…” With a deep breath you tell him everything; how you feel like he doesn’t see you, the way he is able to strike down anyone without blinking an eye, even how you miss him holding you in his arms while you both fall to sleep. He’s quiet for a moment, then he kisses you on the forehead. “Thank you for telling me this, I’ll be better I promise. You’re my number one (y/n) always remember that.” He helps you off the ground and gestures for you to hold his arm. When you take it you feel like you did when you first met him, connected. “I love you Stanley…” you mutter under your breath. “And I love you more.”
I’ve got to ask, why did you choose those specific characters for the dating sim??? I mean, a lot of the team have said they don’t like Vikare, Chixie is already in a relationship in FS2, and there’s not much bloodcaste diversity. Mallek and Lanque are obvious choices but why everyone else???
HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD!
A few comments on that (this is Jonaya speaking, who wrote the entirety of TechniColor Heart):
None of the stuff in TechniColor Heart is directly related to the actual canon of Friendsim 2 (beyond the Dream taking inspiration from MSPAR's subconscious in certain areas) - like, these are explicitly different people (they're presented as humans, with human backstories). There's a ton of non-canonical lore introduced that while it sometimes kinda touches on FS2 canon (Lynera's crush on Bronya, Mallek does computer stuff, Cirava is a streamer) it also often doesn't (Chixie being Jewish, Cirava being from Tennessee, Lanque's relationship to his parents, Marsti being a former soldier, etc.) Also, because of the fact that they're being read as human, the blood color stuff is basically not a thing here - it has to do with their personalities as people and role in the story. The only meaningful bit of color stuff (outside of being used for aesthetics) here is Maria's being purple because of her connection to Gl'bgolyb.
While a few of the team have said they don't like Vikare as a character (or at least said he's kind of a nothing character in the original - which, like, he gets one of the shortest routes and never shows up again), I think that got turned into "y'all hate Vikare!" which is... not exactly accurate (if that were true, he wouldn't be in the game). He's got a role in the story the same as anyone else, and while he doesn't get much direct focus in the main Friendsim 2 canon, he's got more dialogue in the game than, say, Folykl or Kuprum!
Chixie can be in a relationship in the FS2 canon, but that's not set in stone! That's actually reactive to a series of choices involving her and Elwurd.
That being said, here's the reasoning behind them all! Most of them have some connection to how the Dream basis itself off what MSPAR wants, with a couple wildcards that exist because of para-narrative reasons (i.e. "I wanted to put them in" reasons).
Mallek: Given the role of the Dream, it makes sense that he's a romance option, since there's some level of an implied flushed crush between him and MSPAR (in Friendsim 2 especially).
Lanque: He was someone that MSPAR could canonically have a relationship with in the first game, again playing into the Dream picking up on subconscious desires or previous canon/semi-canon events.
Vikare: There have been a couple very vocal fans of Vikare - and while his role in the main story is the way it is for narrative reasons, I wanted to acknowledge that there's a segment of our fandom that really likes him. Specifically, wanted to give his TH version the same level of depth and development as anyone else. Think of it as a the Dream referencing metanarrative events.
Chixie: Another character MSPAR has a more-or-less canonical relationship with (as a moirail). She's presented as demi and is the only character you can't actually have sex with, hinting at the connection between her role as MSPAR's moirail in the canon world.
Skylla: Another character MSPAR can get very close to in the first game, physically (sharing the slime bath in her original Friendsim route) and the first character MSPAR meets in Friendsim 2 who expresses concern for them (urging them to get out before they get killed).
Lynera: One of the real wild-cards here, since her relationship to MSPAR isn't especially closer than a lot of other characters. The real secret here is para-textual: Lynera is probably Jonaya's favorite character, so you get to date her!
Xefros (stand-alone only): This is less about the role of the Dream (since it's in the stand-alone mode) and more about wanting to give Xefros some more screen time.
Marsti (stand-alone only): Also outside of the Dream, Marsti is part of the whole fucked-up Absent Place storyline, and her romance plotline is kinda fucked up and dysfunctional. Gotta include at least one absolutely messy storyline in the game, after all.
As far as the reasoning behind the non-dateable characters who have questlines:
Cirava: One of MSPAR's close friends and an important confidant in the main storyline. Picked partly to have them bounce off of Mallek in their storyline, partly because they fit well into the "streamer who spends most of their time inside" archetype and I wanted there to be a consistent touchstone in the form of MSPAR's roommate.
Elwurd: She had "lesbian BFF" energy - someone who MSPAR is cool hanging out with, but she tends to push people away in the FS2 canon in particular. This gets developed if you do her questline.
Aradia: One of the characters we see with metanarrative awareness at times, so she made sense to help guide MSPAR out of the Dream. Also, she was one of the sprites made for another game that could be re-used.
Maria (depends on whether you're in stand-alone mode): In the Dream, Maria (whose sprites are from another game that our Studio stopped development one) represents Gl'bgolyb, hence her vastly different appearance. In the stand-alone mode, she's got her own character and plotline that ties into the Absent Place storyline.
Tyzias (stand-alone only): Given her role in canon, it made sense to have her and Stelsa as FBI agents investigating the murder of Cridea Jeevik. A fair amount of Twin Peaks references with her too.
Ardata (stand-alone only): Needed someone kinda fucked up - originally was gonna be more-or-less a Twin Peaks reference as well, but ended up developing into her own thing. Also her role in the history behind the Absent Place plot ties into her FS2 canon role in the Alternian military.
For the meme: 5, 17, 21, 40 and 50 for Mumbleshipping?
Yeeeeeeeeeee thank you so much for asking about my boys!
5. What personality trait do they love the most about each other?
Oh, this is a fun one!
Seto loves how sweet and forgiving Ryou is. It makes no sense for him to be this kind or want to see the good in others, especially after everything he's been through, but he does, and Seto marvels at it a little.
Seto loves Duke's fearlessness. He's intimidated by nobody and nothing, ashamed of almost nothing, and he likes how spunky that makes him. Kaiba is pretty intimidating himself, and he kinda likes that one of his boyfriends is completely immune to it. It makes things very entertaining.
Ryou loves and admires Seto's unstoppable, unyielding willpower. This man is relentless, and Ryou can't relate to that, and he's kind of enchanted by it.
Ryou loves Duke's playfulness and positivity. He's not exactly optimistic, but he's a generally positive person, and it's a huge ray of sunshine in Ryou's life. Ryou is a cat just basking in Duke's presence.
Duke loves Ryou's vivid imagination. Sometimes it runs wild, and his eyes sparkle whenever he's deep into his story/character/scenario, and Duke thinks it's precious.
Duke loves Seto's genius brain and his technical prowess, and especially loves watching him do his inventing thing. The tinkering, the tools, Duke relates to it with his own tinkering.
Generally speaking, Duke loves to watch his boys when they're in the zone.
17. What do they have in common?
They all have a game obsession, and it's a different game for all of them. They all have abusive complicated relationships with their fathers. They all have missing mother figures. They all need to let go of their past so that they can truly move forward in a healthy way towards happiness. They all have a deep passionate side, even if it's not usually the forefront of their personalities.
21. Are they interested in having children? Why or why not?
I think Kaiba has a very complicated relationship with children/the idea of children, but he could be talked into it. There's fear of the repeating abuse cycles (and the past, generally), fear of failure, fear of loss. It's Seto's idea to adopt though, once they've all agreed to having kids, and Ryou agrees immediately. Duke is a bit more attached to the idea of "that's a little piece of me" or "that's a little piece of my beloved" running around; he wants that blood tie to his kid in some form; it's just a subconscious thing for him. He gets talked into adoption though.
40. Who tries to distract the other when they’re trying to do something else?
Duke is guilty of doing this on purpose more than anyone else. He can be needy for attention sometimes, that's just how it goes. Ryou is more likely to be distracting by accident, either just from being in the room and making it impossible for Seto to focus on work because he's just too cute bending over the shelves looking for new books, or Duke's finding it impossible to look at anything but Ryou when he's supposed to be paying attention to making dinner.
50. Who would protect who in a dangerous situation?
Kaiba's fear of loss (and inability to process it) makes him the most overprotective man in the universe. When his family is threatened, he pulls everyone into his mansion and shuts down the property with more security than Nanba Prison. He will not let anyone hurt the ones he loves. He was distracted in the past which led to Mokuba coming to harm a few times, and he's learned from his mistakes. This also means he's a little... controlling. In a dangerous situation though, he's the number one protector.
Duke is also pretty protective in his own right. We've seen him come to his friends' defense before (Serenity, Mai, Rebecca, Tristan), if anybody's in trouble he jumps right in. He's physically protective of Ryou, ofc, but he's also protective of Kaiba and Kaiba's reputation, so that manifests in a way that Ryou and Kaiba don't usually get to see. If anybody's hanging around The Black Clown and starts shit-talking Kaiba, Duke steps out from behind the counter or from his office to have words with them.
Which isn't to say that Ryou wouldn't protect them if he was given the chance, but he's very rarely in the position to do so. But Ryou is probably the most protective of Mokuba. (All the boys are protective of Mokuba, though.)
Thoughts on Good Omens season 2 over all? I had a great time with it. I see some people saying the plot was kinda thin and the side characters boring, and I sort of agree, but I showed up to watch Aziraphale and Crowley so I didn’t really mind that the rest of it was nothing special. I thought they did a great job showing the strange limbo they’ve been in, where they’re closer than ever in some ways but still haven’t come to a true understanding. And they have such great old married couple energy the whole way through!
I had issues with the Lindsey aspect of the whole Nina/Maggie plot line because I understood Nina and Maggie being mirrors for Crowley and Aziraphale and Lindsey being a stand in for Heaven/Hell dictating how they should act but I was also like, I mean Nina is in an emotionally abusive relationship and to just kind of throw that in and not really do much with it and only use it as a parallel to Aziraphale and Crowley's situation is unfulfilling for me, otherwise I didn't really mind Maggie and Nina, I just kind of felt like there should be more filled in with them if they were going to be a fixture in the season.
In terms of Aziraphale and Crowley, I did think they did a good job in showing how close they've gotten with the details like Crowley knowing Aziraphale's tones of voice
Tumblr media
or him being like I understood what you said in French because you've spoken about it for 250 years
Tumblr media Tumblr media
or how Aziraphale will just tell him to order him a sherry and what I seem to naturally do with relationship dynamics like this one is focus on the person in the relationship whose feelings are evident and there and clear but not as plainly conveyed as the other. So, for instance, Crowley is the one who Nina and Maggie speak to
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crowley is the one who kisses Aziraphale
Tumblr media
Shax speaks of Crowley's devotion to Aziraphale
Tumblr media
I think the audience is a bit more aligned with Crowley coming to terms with how he feels than with Aziraphale because of direct lines like this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so I naturally focus on Aziraphale and his feelings for Crowley and how they're portrayed because I don't find it to be as plain as the aforementioned and therefore a little more interesting to observe, like the fact that Aziraphale has diary entries of his various adventures with Crowley (peak crush behaviour)
Tumblr media
and that's why this is my favourite part of the season
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
because this, to me, says more about Aziraphale than Crowley, a) because like I said before, Aziraphale is positively tickled to be saved by Crowley b) making Crowley happy makes him happy even when they're in immediate danger.
So, what I found interesting about their dynamic this season is that while Crowley may "move too fast" for Aziraphale with suggesting running off together, in a lot of ways, Aziraphale is already comfortable with things we see Crowley coming to terms with in real time i.e. Aziraphale already knew in the 40s that they would always get each other off the hook (Crowley knew because he'd been coming through for Aziraphale for a very long time by that point as well but he's not comfortable with admitting it)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he was already comfortable with the knowledge he'd put his life in Crowley's hands, that he trusted him absolutely
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
or things like publicly showing some form of intimacy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and Crowley being like wait what?
Tumblr media
and in that sense, Aziraphale is the one who pushes Crowley and is the one who's actually moving faster
Tumblr media
even in the first episode while Crowley natural talks about them as a pair, he doesn't call attention to it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and when he reverts from talking about them as a unit to talking about himself
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aziraphale immediately calls attention to the fact that there is in fact a "them", he verbalizes it
Tumblr media
and he has no problem admitting that he both needs and wants Crowley by his side
Tumblr media
so it was interesting seeing these things and this intimacy and this personal development of acknowledging how much they mean to each other while they also have fundamental ideological differences that in the past had compelled the other to look at things from a different point of view but in the end (of the season) ends up ripping them apart.
I feel like the reason they canceled the poly route is cause it really kinda doesn't make sense. Like even with character development that's basically par for the course in a game like this, their personalities will mostly stay the same and that won't work with a poly route cause they'd fucking kill each other
Admittedly idk anything about poly relationships so i cant really speak on it. However I do think about how the plot kind of makes me think of the hero's/heroine's journey. That is, it can kind of reflect someone's personal journey of transformation/development.
So like, I kind of see how the LIs can stand for the "monster" within yourself too. Facing that monster instead of shunning it or denying it. And being transformed by that experience. Idk I'm kind of talking out of my ass, I'm not completely knowledgeable on the hero's/heroine's journey.
Anyway I mention this because that would make sense with the answer that RSS gave regarding the question of poly routes: they said that there's a certain level of "intimate" that it's not really made to fit for (paraphrasing here, but they did use the word "intimate" or some form of it). By considering the Touchstarved plot as something that could reflect one's personal journey in facing "the other/shunned" within yourself, that one-on-one focus makes sense. I hope I'm making sense lol.
But anyway. I'll use this opportunity to kind of explore the hero's/heroine's journey and Touchstarved since it was always on my mind anyway.
The illusion of the perfect world
The ignorant bliss that MC was in before they set off on their journey. Pre-betrayal and all. Happiness in their temple/with their partner in crime/with their teacher.
2. Betrayal/disillusionment
Traveling mage reveals the true nature of the Unnamed's curse. Partner betrays the Hound. The Alchemist realizing they're being used as a test subject.
3. The awakening & preparing for the journey
MC leaves home. Knows they can no longer stay. They look outside themselves for solutions: the Senobium at Eridia becomes their goal.
4. The descent: passing the gates of judgment
Doubts/fears/shame about their identity and new lifestyle. To move on they must give up their preconceived solution (Senobium, a cure) and doubts holding them back. "This stage can be moved around the journey."
I think it's clear they will have to accept their identity as a monster.
5. The eye of the storm
"A small taste of success brings a false sense of security. They relax and take a chance they shouldn't take."
"Similar to Boon of Success, they triumph for a short period of time. However, this victory serves as a false calm. This stage can be moved around throughout the journey."
Wonder if MC will experience False Security Part 2, Electric Bogaloo. Probably will. There'll probably be a time where everything seems to be going well with their LI. It all goes to shit though. RSS wants to emotionally wreck us after all (that's so based of them).
6. All is lost/death
"Things get worse. There is no hope. They failed and accept defeat."
Yeah I'm pretty sure this tragic ass story will get here.
7. Support
"The hero(ine) accepts the help of the supporter and comes to understand that 'being alone is never enough.' This stage can be moved around throughout the journey."
The LIs could help them or cause their demise.
8. Rebirth/moment of truth
They find their strength/resolve/courage/hope from support. "They fully understand their place in the world and how they will face her doubts." They "awaken" and sees the world and their role in it differently. Faces fear with compassion.
I think whether directly or indirectly, the LIs will teach MC about accepting the monster within themselves.
9. Return to a new world
They see the world for what it really is. They understand themselves better and this changes the way they live from then on. "This change is more spiritual and internally driven than external."
They understand their curse isn't to be cured. They know to live accepting themselves for who they are. They understand their place in this world. Their identity as a monster.
---
I only have passing wikipedia/online blog surface knowledge about hero/heroine's journey, so any clarifications or additional thoughts from anyone would be appreciated.
Edit: I realize after writing this I didn't exactly elaborate on how the LIs themselves can reflect the monster within MC (not just their curse). Idk my mind scattered rn but I guess it's bc MC's curse is purely physical whereas the LIs have set themes that one can relate to. Right now, MC is a blank slate meant to fit anybody. Someone who seems to lack a fully fleshed out theme. Choosing which route to take feels like choosing which monster (and their theme) calls out to you, tbh. The monster within yourself. Idk i project a lot on these characters but I'm not entirely alone. I see a lot of people get attached to the LIs because of recognizing themselves in them.
Edit2: i think it's bc the hero's journey gets compared to like "facing the shadow" and stuff like that. The shadow being "the other." Now Jung is a can of worms when it comes to western-centric beliefs and psychology stuff about this get heavily gendered, but the narrative structure of the journey being personal development and facing what one denies/struggles to face in oneself is pretty relevant methinks.
Same anon concerning Dratchet—
I get what you're saying a bit more, except my big counter would be:
How much of a main cast member is Drift, though? 🤔
He has a lot of presence when he's around, but if you look at the numbers... he's actually entirely missing for half the series (40/82 issues for MTMTE+LL) and his panel time is only spotty otherwise.
As much as I love him, he's really not much of a player plot-wise—you could honestly sub him out for just about anyone with no appreciable difference.
Whereas, I'd say Ratchet is still a main cast member regardless of him being entirely absent for 11 issues.
So... Drift might seem Ratchet-centric, but as opposed to that being a reflection of his actual character, it's only a reflection upon the fact that his only claim to fame is Ratchet so it follows any panel time he gets is panel time tying him up with Ratchet.
TL;DR: it's not that Dratchet/Ratchet more important to Drift's character, it's just that it's what connects him to the story.
Does that make any sense at all?
It’s interesting that you bring that up because I did think about the fact that, quantitatively, Drift isn’t quite a main cast member.
I was looking more at qualitative presence.
“you could honestly sub him out for just about anyone with no appreciable difference.”
^ Right. His presence in the series was heavily dependent on Dratchet being so huge, and that’s one of the main reasons I take issue with it in a similar way I think Cygate is overrated.
You’re right that Drift’s claim to fame was through Ratchet, but as far as I know, Ratchet is still the most stable relationship to him outside of MTMTE. Everyone else dies or walks away.
Ratchet was there at the start back at the Dead End, and Drift’s story ended with him attaining his goal of belonging. With Ratchet, apparently. The message conveyed by that narrative is that his story and all his losses were a “journey to Ratchet.” (aka journey to belonging)
Someone (@/weapon-up-wallflower?) wrote something about Dratchet and how every step led to each other (if I recall correctly). I wish I could remember where the post was…
To me, the fact that Ratchet is the main connection Drift gets to [arguably] his most significant story makes their relationship/the ship extremely important to his character arc as a whole. It carries the most weight.
As for Drift’s actual character—barring narrative and storytelling—I still see Ratchet as being key because Drift’s life without Ratchet would be emptier, kinda bland, and would lack all meaning/direction because all of his other relationships were severed or shallow.
Besides Wing and maybe Megatron (both dead), what did any of his other relationships do for him? Nothing.
Meanwhile, if Drift were removed from Ratchet’s life, Ratchet would still stand well on his own as an individual character. Judging by the end of LL, Ratchet was a significant part of many people’s lives and vice versa. His life would still have had meaning without Drift.
I guess I’m just sad that other, potentially interesting options to make Drift compelling were ignored/destroyed with each loss he faced over the course of his story.
EDIT: I realize this would be very different if Drift weren’t so relationally oriented. Relationships aren’t always the most significant thing about a character, but because they are for Drift, that’s where my focus goes: The nature and quality of his relationships.
My thoughts on Yuri On Ice and where it went
So I’ve been wanting to properly articulate what I feel is off about the Iceado production and how abnormal it is, what I think could be happening and my reasoning. So far I’ve only posted about these feelings on asks, replies and discord but I want to expand on them in writing. This is kinda long so I apologize in advance. Feel free to send me asks or reply to this post with your opinion.
First of all. Anime is a product and a property, and as such, it is usually milked until it no longer produces enough money to be profitable for the studio.
Yuri on ice was a total best seller, It trended #1 every Wednesday on both Tumblr and twitter. Episode 7 crashed Tumblr. They have a huge international audience, which is something that is so valuable.
The first 2 years after YOI ended we had had all sorts of events. Collaborations, pop ups, the live stage, all sorts of merchandise etc..
Please. just read this bit on the popularity and success of YOI  ( X )
with that in mind,
what in the hell happened?
Here’s the two train of thoughts I see a lot in asks/replies:
It’s a “focusing on other bigger projects” kind of issue
It’s an LGBTQ censoring issue
Here’s why I think it’s neither of those two:
focusing on other bigger projects is the most popular theory and the one that honestly makes more sense. yoi being put on pause to produce the money cows JJK, AOT, CSM, and Vinland saga. It makes sense except for the fact that they still found the time to animate 12 episodes of a relatively obscure Ballet manga, Dance Dance Danseur. which already finished airing and despite being a MAPPA property, it wasn’t very popular online. Why take the chance to order 12 episodes from DDD and not Yuri on ice? which if you read the link I placed earlier had impressive statistics. This exact fact leads me to believe it's not a time or focus issue.
If LGBTQ censoring was the issue, we wouldn't have BL animes coming out every year, and since Yuri on ice came out we’ve had quite a bit of BL animes and movies, for example: Given, the clouds gather, Given the movie, Sasaki to miyano, Umibe no étranger, Yes Ka No Hanbun Ka, sankaku mado, and a bunch more including live actions.
and you might say “but yoi is not tagged BL so it could be censored” well, just a year after Yuri on ice aired Banana fish, a Mappa property, had a full on screen kiss between the main two characters. and that wasn’t tagged BL either. Y*richin B*tch cl*b got an anime adaptation and it doesn’t get more explicit than that so no. While I’m not claiming censoring doesn’t exist in anime, the laws aren’t a strict regime as some people make it seem. Implying the whole project got scrapped because of the main gay relationship is beyond unlikely. I don't think anyone could possibly deny that Yuri and Victor’s relationship was by far the biggest selling point of yuri on ice; the audience  knows it, the creators know it, the producers know it.
So what is it?
I present my leading theory... simple yet I find it quite likely...
Creative differences and doubts about where to take the story.
what do Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on titan, Chainsaw man, Dance Dance Danseur,  Vinland saga, and hell’s paradise have in common?
they’re all manga adaptations.
Yuri on ice is an original story through and through. Thought up by the wonderful minds of Kubo Mitsuro and Sayo Yamamoto. Yuri on ice has been both the last anime they’ve worked on so far since 2016.
The thing about Yuri on ice is that the story, by virtue of being so original in it’s plot and setting, deviated heavily from the usual money-making structure of your average sports anime.
The characters were not teenagers in high school
A major plot point is that both of the main characters are nearing the end of their careers.
the story wraps and by the 12 episode mark you’ve already been to a bunch of competitions that in other sports anime would’ve taken seasons. EX: Kuroko no basket, haikyuu, slam dunk
Most important character arcs are resolved.
Main conflict in the series is resolved. Victor and Yuri get together.
The truth is, Yuri on ice is a series that really wraps up neatly. where can you go from there? go through competitions all over again until Yuri wins gold? when we’ve already stablished that Victor loves Yuri for who he is and will stay no matter what? what would be the point of that? Have Viktor keep being a playboy celebrity when already his search for live & love was resolved?
There is a danger of falling into the same story beats and a season 2 would have to be carefully constructed. Where do you take this franchise?
I used to not understand why they opted for a prequel movie instead of a season 2. Now that I look at this decision from a different perspective and while I do not personally agree with it, I can totally understand it.
Going forward with this original series is difficult, and I can tell the writers Sayo & Kubo care a great deal for their creation. The way YOI is so carefully structured shows that so much thought and care went into it. seriously, have you ever thought about how much detail, narrative, interaction, and character arcs YOI manages to have in just 12 episodes? it’s quite impressive. this is a project that they had no idea would get green lit for a second season and they knew the studio was taking a chance on them with this original series so they were incredibly concise as to have it end as neatly as possible.
but that “see you next level” was a promise to an eager fandom.
Back to why I think creative differences and testing the waters as to where to take the story is what’s happening:
In January 2019 an Ice Adolescence teaser was shown in Japan only, in complete exclusiveness. the people who saw it weren’t allowed to record it so they talked about it in great detail on twitter. For more than a year, this very same teaser was kept from the international audience until it dropped on YouTube on November 2020. According to the people who saw it in the exclusive screening nothing had been changed or added, it was the very same.  So why the long wait? It’s like there is an uncertainty as to where to take the project and if it should continue in the same direction. “Let’s give it a year and see if we’re still on track with the current story”
To be honest, there have been many times where I’ve genuinely believed the project has been dropped. I know there are franchises that take longer to produce, look at Evangelion’s last movie, it took like 9 years to be made. As I was reading on the story of EVA 3.0 + 1.0 and why it took so long to be made when Eva is a well stablished money making franchise, I learned that Hideaki Anno, the creator, developed severe burnout and had to take a break, he was undecided on where to take the story and other people who worked with him in the project left the studio.
Since I am a yoi blog, and I’m always scanning the tag, replies, twitter, reddit, I see that a lot of discussion surrounding Iceado always seems to point to the fact that people believe this is studio meddling. What happened to Hideki and EVA could’ve happened to yoi. That even a huge property like EVA took 10 years because the creator was not comfortable, and did not want to continue just yet points to the weight the creator holds. I believe that if it were up to mappa, given how much money yoi made them, we would've had yuri on ice season 3 by now. But no, this is ultimately Sayo and Kubo’s child and I strongly believe that if we do not have something by now, it’s because something is taking place between these two, perhaps burn out, perhaps creative differences, or perhaps they seriously just need lots of time to think this one through. Even though it’s hard sometimes because I love this franchise, I want to trust Kubo and Sayo as I did before. I want to trust they’ll deliver a product that is good, and campy, and fun, and deep and sometimes heartbreaking. I will wait until I can see this through
So on rewatching That Scene in Episode 6 something stood out to me because I was watching it while thinking about the Coffee Theory.
I don’t really subscribe to the Coffee Theory and I think it robs Aziraphale of a lot of his agency and complexity in this portion of the show.
I DO think the coffee is important however and it’s present mostly as a manipulation tactic.
A metaphor, if you will.
Similar to how there are no literal nightingales in Soho, the coffee is just a coffee.
However, the nightingales are a metaphor for Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship. At the end of Season 1 they reach an understanding that leads to that dinner at the Ritz and therefore the nightingales sing. They love each other and they’ve never said it but they don’t have to because they’re operating on the understanding that they simply want to be together.
But that leads me to a follow-up point.
Crowley’s relationship with Hell and Aziraphale’s relationship with Heaven have always been different.
Crowley, being a fallen angel and not a very good demon, has resigned himself to the fact that Heaven and Hell both suck massively. Heaven is controlling and manipulative and Hell is just awful and cruel, so Crowley is pretty content to just present as human and hang out on Earth.
He’s attached to his flat, his plants, his car, and the planet he’s living on. He does concern himself with the affairs of humans sometimes though he mostly keeps to himself. He has seen the best and worst humanity has to offer and he’s just kinda vibing yk.
Aziraphale, however, does not have the lived experience that Crowley does to recognize Heaven’s manipulation. He can’t recognize it because he’s still entrenched in it. He knows that the Archangels aren’t the best at their jobs and that Heaven is a little bit of a mess but surely it can’t be that bad!
Hell is still evil in his eyes, and by extension, so is Crowley. Several people have put it more eloquently than I have but essentially Aziraphale thinks Crowley must want to be an angel again because he’s Good and only Angels can be Truly Good. Etc etc.
There are better posts about that element out there though.
What I’m here to Focus on is the coffee.
First of all the Metatron speaks to Nina about giving people a choice but them only choosing the one (coffee over death) because it seems obvious that they should pick it over the other. The alternative doesn’t even really occur to them.
cough Aziraphale’s choice
Secondly, he comes in and after sending the angels away he addresses Aziraphale directly. He ignores the fact that Crowley and Muriel are still in the room and claims that it’s “just us” which struck me as odd.
Though, if you consider that he likely holds a lot of disdain for Crowley and that he doesn’t really see Muriel as a person, it makes a bit more sense.
Nevertheless he confronts Aziraphale head-on, doesn’t give him a chance to speak to Crowley, and immediately offers him something human.
Like I said before, I believe that the coffee is a metaphor, in this case it’s the Metatron making an effort to seem like he’s putting himself on Aziraphale’s level. He’s convincing Aziraphale that they’re speaking as equals.
His line “I’ve consumed a few things in my time” feels like he’s trying to coax Aziraphale into believing that the Metatron is on his level, that he understands Aziraphale in a way that other angels can’t. This opens up Aziraphale to what the Metatron has to say, and it makes him more likely to agree to his proposal.
TLDR There’s nothing in the coffee other than the coffee, and it’s a manipulation tactic instead of a magic drug. The Metatron is putting him at ease before manipulating him into coming back to Heaven. That’s my unsolicited opinion on the matter.
Thanks for reading and see ya next time hopefully with a Gepard Landau character analysis
If you were given the green light and enough money what kind JTTW adaption would you make?
Def an animated retelling cause I’ve been wanting that for years!
Probably would want 2D cause I’m old fashion but I think that allows for more cartoony actions but I would actually like it to be more “adult” in that there is blood and death, nothing too graphic, but doesn’t shy away from violence either. Something like how Samurai Jack or Lupin the 111 Part 5 is treated with being watched for a younger audience but like in no way is it just for kids either or holds back on the violence.
Really inspired by these designs!
Just love love love the range of possibilities that this kinda 2D animation with designs like this would allow! All these are fantastic designs but def something like this!
I think if I had the power it would be definitely character-driven, with attention to each of the group throughout the series and pace it or add on to each where the natural development of their relationship can be realistic but not rushed cause it would span 14 years so there is time for that kind of development. Personally, I think I would keep the tone more humorous and comedic as while the demons ARE powerful and very much a threat, Wukong, Bajie, and Wujing always go in with some kind of “yeah and I’m your Grandfather so show some respect” attitude that I would love to see highlighted in a series. But while it's supposed to be more comedic there is a layer of seriousness in the more quiet moments it's just that the characters treat even the most serious situations with an air of 'yeah same shit different day'. Just three vastly different-sized deities fighting these ‘oh so powerful’ demons that are so arrogant and need to be taken down a peg.
But then always the demons outwit the heroes and get Sanzang when they think they have the upper hand in the fight but lose the real battle when they forget about their mission in the heat of the moment. And then the three either delve into arguing with each other blaming each other when it was supposed to be a team effort. But by the end they come up with a plan or get the assistance they need to overcome their foes… and perhaps start to see they not only have to rely on each other but that they CAN rely on one another.
Definitely highlight more of the quiet moment in between. Show them cooking and cleaning their camps sights as they get ready for another day of walking. I think maybe even some filler episodes that focus solely on flashbacks for like Bajie or Wujing and Baling and how they were kicked out of heaven and how each one feels into some kind of depression for having their humanity ripped from them into new bodies that aren’t their own and how they kinda lose their sense of self for looking so different and acting so different than they used to.
Bajie used to be a Marshall in charge of 100,000 navel ships, used to only answer to the Jade Emperor himself… but now he is a lazy pig on earth that has no weight to his name and no better than a joke. I think it would be cool to take a spin on him being lazy cause he doesn’t care anyone, about himself or anyone really, he is just in such a state of depression on earth he just acts on a whim looking for any joy he can in fleeting because he doesn’t see any point in trying to reach for more. And how that kind changes throughout the journey as he does start to prove he is still a capable fighter and how he might be a pig yaoguai but that doesn’t mean he gets to act like a monster. And how he starts to find people that he cares for and maybe he can start caring about himself. He sees how Wukong and Sanzang don’t really sleep or eat cause they are so focused on the mission and “can survive on only a single drop of water” or some kind of bullcrap to skip meals and not sleep and how he starts to be the one to push for naps and breaks and eating not only for his own sake but he got the most self-sacrificing buckle heads that can’t even bother to take a nap to “save the world.” He is still a jerk but he cares in his own rough way. Absolutely starts pranks wars with Wukong he knows he is going to lose but he is a stubborn man and doesn’t know when to back down from a clearly superior foe.
Wujing I would have it that he would be very soft-spoken and also quick to rage. He got kicked out for a single mistake that has defined the rest of his life and carries that kind of anxiety around. That if he just does a single thing wrong it’s over and he will be blamed, hence why he doesn’t say a lot at first, cause he is always so afraid that any move can be wrong so he rather not say anything at all and be neutral than wrong. But as he sees how loud and brash his brothers are he can only take so much before he either tells them to shut up or joins in on the fight. But he does start to see that he isn’t going to be judged for every little mistake. Bajie, Wukong, and even Sanzang are ALWAYS making mistakes but while there is yelling and blaming there is also that layer of 'okay we fought, blah blah, pass the salt would ya,' like things go back to the norm. That yeah, he accidentally burned the rice but he isn’t going to be punished, that a good ribbing is going to be with a joke back and not a reprimand. Just for the first time in forever Wujing can relax and just be comfortable around these new people that are kinda screw-ups too. And from there starts to build his own self-confidence and stand up for himself without being a doormat to other people.
BaiLong I think I would like him very standoffish hence why he doesn’t get out his horse form often… but he is still VERY expressive as a horse. Like that one horse from Tangled. If there are robbers, BaiLong kicks the fuck out of them with his hind legs, if there is someone trying to touch him, he bites them, if someone is trying to touch SANZANG… tries to beat them to death with his hooves. He is a very angry horse. But also he is the one in charge of trying to keep Sanzang safe the most when you think about it. I think I would definitely have him try to run away from demons with Sanzang on, or try to at least hide him when there are suspicious people. Always on guard dog mode. Even bites Wukong or Bajie when THEY fail to protect Sanzang cause HE is just the horse! He doesn’t have his scales or his horns! He can’t fight like they can, he isn’t a trained soldier, he was a prince from a very cold family that didn’t look twice at him when he got kicked out. He always tried to keep the peace of the family only to be written off as useless or worthless while his older brothers and even younger brothers have great feats and merit while he is a criminal forced to be an animal. But for the first time, he is treated like a brother. He might not be able to answer or even be part of the fights but they always make sure that he has water and food and always talk to him with some kind of comment as if he can answer back but just gives a single brow like “seriously.” Also, anytime Bajie says they are going to sell the horse BaiLong gets to kick him.
Sanzang I think would be the biggest change in that I would want him younger like early twenties by the start for two reasons. First I rather him be shown to be more early twenties to highlight his inexperience in the real world at this moment. He has been living in the monastery his whole life and yes he has a big heart but he is still kinda sheltered when it comes to how other kingdoms that ain’t nearly as rich as Tang or even outside the kingdom at all. Kinda wanna take from Monkey Magic 1999 cartoon where Sanzang sees the king's monk advisors be corrupt and how the scriptures are being twisted and used for their own gains. He finds the palace life to be suffocating and to be ONLY at the emperor's side as his sworn brother. He sees the corruption in his own city but he is given a sign by Gaunyin herself. How TO make a REAL change and save people without having to be limited by politics or saving face. I rather it follows Xuanzang's Pilgrimage here where Sanzang actually sneaks out of Tang without the approval of the Emperor and accepts that he would be a criminal in his own homeland going on his quest. But he finds it all worth it if that means he can make a difference.
But then his horse gets lost and he always starved to death. And the season reason I would have him younger would be that he is arrogant. He got to the highest level of monk in his kingdom in a few years by being able to be both smart and knowledgeable so he thinks he is too stuffed and knows what he talking about. He thinks he is in the position ready to face the world alone without any real other qualifications leading to a huge mess of him almost drying in the woods if it wasn’t for a woodcutters family there to save him. But even then once he finds his new disciples that were hand-picked by Guanyin he is more confused by their looks than scared as he has never seen a Yaoguai so… small as Wukong. Which is also thing would be a fun scene. He just thinks that he has everything figured out and doesn’t need to listen to people that HE is supposed to be in charge of. I’m thinking making him like this at the start as with each kidnapping either humbled him or lets him show that he needs to rely on other but also he CAN.
Dipping into something the backstory of his family trauma of avenging his not-so-dead dad and his mother's suicide and how he emotionally disconnected from that to protect himself but like never really gave himself a chance to mourn and move on properly. Love to touch that. Even with each kidnapping he does get hurt and does get scars or rope burns and he starts to less give orders and rather starts to open up with his journeymates. I feel like he could be a character that a lot of people could relate to when it comes to being thrust into a world will suddenly you have more responsibilities than you think you are prepared for, and how people usually have different responses to that kind of stress. Also, love to see how he would physically change from a young adult to late thirties by the end of the journey and how that change can be seen! This man spent more than a decade on the road and started as a young man but ended as a wider adult for it.
And as for Wukong… he would definitely be the center of the show as usual. But I really want to kind of make it clear at the start he is definitely still an ex-warlord. He is arrogant and cocky, he thinks he could do everything on his own, thinks that he’s always in the right, never take no for an answer, or he will immediately start to threaten with violence. Like don't get me wrong, he’s very charming and charismatic, and honestly, considering how he always gives people a “chance” to walk away, he is the funniest most lively guy in the group. I kind of want him like teetering on the edge of your never going to know his next move. Either he laughs at threats or he takes some very seriously, depending on who they are from. I think I would make him definitely the most expressive and cartoonish with his reactions just to get that huge range of how much he feels. No hold him back on his power either but throughout the story, it’s more like because he uses such an excess of power. He also harms the environment or people around him because he doesn’t take them into account. Hence why Sanzang always pushes for him to go for less violent means or just to subdue. I think this would be a great case of like showing how creative and innovative Wukong is through the use of 2D animation, mostly in what you can do with the animation, which is limitless, which is exactly what I want an audience to get from Wukong powers.
Like sure he is strong, but I also want to show like his vast wide use of powers and how each one can be creatively used within the story. And especially in cases where the gang needs to get information on the demon, in order to learn how to defeat them really hammering in the idea of how Wukong really can’t do this entire mission on his own. He needs to be more considerate of his actions because he needs to protect Sanzang and he needs to start relying on Bajie and Wujing and acknowledge them as equals if he’s ever going to work with them rather than barking orders at them. And he needs to see that just being the strongest person in the room doesn’t automatically make him right. I feel like in a long-running series this would be a great ongoing theme throughout each episode to see Wukong slowly coming to the idea that he does have a team he can work with now and maybe even a flashback episode about how different his current brotherhood is compared to his past brotherhood. Like his previous brotherhood was more of a delegation of followers, and he was the ringleader. But compared to the new brotherhood there are no leaders but rather there is that kind of mutual respect. Especially that coming to a head with the Demon Bull King episode! Oh, I would love that!!
I’m kind of just still going off of that of like Wukong realizing how alone he is in the world. Like sure, he has his monkey family and he absolutely adores them and it will do anything for them but also he recalls how they first feared him when he came. They thought he was a monster, until he was able to prove himself by jumping through the waterfall, and became the king and earned the respect. And with his past brotherhood, it was more just a bunch of yes-man around him, never really holding him accountable for his actions, but rather just enabling him and his destructive behavior. And from there it’s just been a continual downhill of him spiraling out of control of what he thinks is right because he is the most powerful person versus what it means to show empathy and compassion for those that don’t have the same strength. And how they are different types of strength as well. Pretty much just focusing on his continual growth of increasing his empathy for others because I think that’s a big skill that’s hard to learn as well. Some people have to practice empathy and Wukong finally been in situations where he has to struggle not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well and ask him self what is really write in a situation. Should he kill that demon? Or should he tried to let them go? Should he give people the benefit of the doubt or should he follow his experience and not take any chances? It’s a constant battle he has to have with himself and especially on a pilgrimage where he hast to go on his redemption arc, one that he didn’t even want to join in the first place, and gradually become one of the most dedicated to the mission. Not to mention his own identity, and what it means to be both Yaoguai and a deity. Now that would be amazing in the said Ears arc!
Also him coming to the realization that just because he’s one of the most powerful creatures on the plane that doesn’t make him better than anyone else, the guy does need a little bit of humbling. And furthering the realizing that his teammates Bajie, Wujing, Sanzang, even BaiLong, all have something to bring to the table, even if it isn’t immediate mass strength. And I feel like that’s also kind of growing. For him as he starting to recognize that other people can do what he can’t do and accepting those limitations he has on myself. He’s kind of a perfectionist, and that way. Like Wukong can do many things! Practically everything! But I will be seeing him as kind of like a jack of all trades master of none. Well, he might be able to do everything, but some people just able to do it a little bit better depending on the circumstances. When it comes to fighting, usually he is the best! But there is also Erlang Shen! He can heal! But not as good as GuanYin. He can disguise himself. But he still has his tail showing. He can do so many things, but there’s always a little bit of a catch. And honestly, he isn’t the best cook. And he’s not the best at being a sympathetic ear. And he isn’t the most graceful when to come to the losing. Or winning either. I’m trying to say is he hast to recognize he has faults of his own and it’s OK to rely on others. And especially on his new group that don’t see him as a king… but as a fellow Pilgrim. The playing field is finally equal because for the first time in a long time he finally is speaking to people that aren’t talking down to him, they aren’t talking up to him, they were just talking to him. And I feel like that would be really the start of him coming to realize he is also just like anyone else, just out here trying his best. And that may be these bozos on the worst group of people to be stuck with.
I guess I wouldn’t want there to be really a star of the show but rather have all of them interact with one another to keep all of the bases even. Like I would constantly push for scenes where all five (yes even BaiLong in horse form) are either arguing or just simply talking to one another about an issue or the current dilemma. Especially push for a lot of background scenes, where only certain people are talking, but you could still see them interacting with one another in the background. Just really pushing the idea of these guys are very used to one another and that they are really starting to grow on one another. It’s kind of like that team dynamic well at first it’s very rough at the start and throughout the journey it’s still that kind of gruff attitude, but you can see how they start to blend with one another. There is a dynamic that is being created and throughout the journey, you can see how that dynamic either changes and how it affects the entire group or how the whole group changes for the sake of one another. That might be taking it too far but personally, I think for this kind of show, that would be exactly what I would like to see.
Sorry that I kind of went off on that question but I think if I was ever in charge of a Xiyouji series I think I would probably give it way too much thought and way too much detail for it to be plausible. But I would just throw as much money as I could into the animation just for the sake of reaction shots, still shots, and action scenes. Comedy and overarching story and action would probably be the main focuses. And yet I will definitely put a lot of focus on it being character-driven rather than being story-driven because I feel like everyone knows the monster of the week formula. I do enjoy most of the week formula because it allows more room for characters to breathe personally.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
