Lena meets kara and they have been dating for a while, so Lena thinks it's time to introduce her girlfriend to her daughter.

R is not happy and doesnt accept it very well, the reason may be because her mother's other partners were never very kind to R. So she ignores Kara.

Then it may happen that R overhears a conversation between her mother and kara where Kara says that she feels bad bc R does not accept her and that maybe they should take time or I don't know, things like that

A/N: my first supercorp fic so true anyway i hope you enjoy anon! :D

You had always been protective of your mother. After all, for most of your life it was just the two of you. You loved your mother, and you loved being her daughter.

You were happy with her.

So when she told you she was dating again, you definitely had some concerns.

You definitely didn't trust easily. You remembered the day your mother told you she had started dating a man named James.

"Y/N," she said prompting you to finally leave your room. You peered around the door, seeing your mother standing next to a man you didn't recognize.

"Hi," you said, walking out.

He held his hand out for you to shake it, which you did hesitantly.

"Don't hurt my mom," you warned him.

"Okay, kid," he said dismissively.

Your mother narrowed her eyes at you as her cheeks flushed red, but you simply shrugged in response. If he couldn't handle you and your protective nature, then he shouldn't be dating Lena Luthor.

Unfortunately, he didn't take your warning very seriously.

You remembered how heartbroken your mother was when they broke up. You told her that she deserved better than someone like him.

It eventually became a pattern for her. She would find someone she liked, they would hurt her, she would be heartbroken for a few months, then someone else would break her heart.

Quite honestly, you were sick of it. You didn't understand why your mother needed to be with someone.

Eventually, you thought she might have sworn off dating, which you were rather grateful for. If it was just the two of you, that was perfectly fine with you.

Unfortunately, it only lasted about a year.

She was almost nervous to tell you, but eventually she did.

"Y/N... I've started dating again,"

"What? Why?"

"There's something different about her,"

"Her?"

"Yes, I'm dating a woman."

"It doesn't matter if you like girls, that's fine, but... just because she's not a man doesn't mean she can't hurt you,"

"I think she deserves a chance, so I'm giving her one. I'd appreciate it if you'd give her a chance too,"

So now, it was time to meet your mother's girlfriend.

"Y/N, this is Kara. Kara, this is my daughter, Y/N,"

You saw her bright smile, and tried to force one in return.

"I'm so glad I finally got to meet you," she said, still smiling. "Your mom says you're a really big movie fan, and I am too! My absolute favorite is Wizard of Oz, but I'd love to have any movie marathon with you!"

You opened your mouth to reply, but nothing came out. You shifted your gaze between Kara and your mother.

Kara then put her arm around your mom, still smiling at you.

"I need to go," you said suddenly, walking away from them without another word.

A week later, you were getting ready to have a movie night with your mother. You were in the living room with the remote in your hand, already looking through movies.

When you heard the doorbell ring, you got up to answer it.

Standing there, much to your dismay, was Kara Danvers.

She had her usual bright smile on her face, then tilted her head to the side as she opened her arms. She made it clear she wanted to hug you, but only if you were okay with it.

You weren't, so you just gave an awkward, forced smile and backed away.

She said nothing, but made her way over to your mother who easily welcomed her into her arms.

"Kara's gonna be joining us for movie night," your mom said.

Your heart dropped as you saw Kara set her bags down.

"I'm gonna go up to my room," you said quietly. And without another word, you did just that.

Over the next few weeks, a new pattern began. Kara would come over, and suddenly your mood would drop and you would try to get as far away from her as possible.

She was currently over for dinner, and you had just started making your way up to your room.

Before you closed the door, you heard your mother say your name, so you decided to listen in.

"I can tell she doesn't like me, Lena,"

"Just give her time, I'm sure she'll come around soon,"

"I don't think so... she just really doesn't like me,"

"I'm sure that's not true!"

"Why does she always leave the second I arrive? Why does she scowl when I show any sort of affection for you?"

"I..." your mother wasn't sure what to say.

"Look, your daughter's happiness should be your main focus. I think it's best for her that we break up, or at least take some time apart."

"I suppose you're right,"

You could hear the hurt in her voice as your heart dropped. Your mother did seem really happy with Kara. Your guilt doubled when you heard a sniffle.

Before you knew it, you were running back towards the living room.

"Wait! Don't go!" You yelled, holding your arms out.

They were both staring at you with questioning looks, causing your heart to pound.

"You guys shouldn't have to break up because of me,"

"You heard?" Your mother asked.

"Yeah... and I'm sorry," you said, taking a deep breath in. "Mom, I just want you to be happy. I haven't been much of a fan of this because of your past partners, but it's not fair to judge Kara because of them. I can tell she makes you happy, and she's a good person,"

You then shifted your gaze to your mother's girlfriend.

"Kara, I'm sorry. I took things too far with my protectiveness of my mom, and now you're both hurt. But please don't break up with her because of that!"

They both looked at each other, then you.

"Are you sure, Y/N/N?" Your mom asked you.

"Yeah," you said, giving a real, genuine smile. "I'm sure."

Without another word, you went back to the living room to search through the movie DVDs. Luckily, it didn't take too long to find Wizard of Oz.

Grinning at them, especially Kara, you held it up high.

"Movie night?"

Hello hello everyone, it's Monday yet again! Here I am bringing you another of my extensive collection of ideas that I never got around to writing, lol! How about some more pre-game AU this week, eh?

Prompt: Detective Gavin Reed is no stranger to working abuse cases, even when they’re not called that. He sees it out on the job, sees it in downcast eyes and flinching motions. Cases like those ones, he takes extra care on. He’ll make sure to investigate as far as he can, looking for something, anything, a warning sign that would signal CPS interference. He may be an asshole, but these kids deserve better. He gets a call one night as he’s wrapping up a crime scene. Domestic disturbance. He’s the closest officer around. He takes the call, scowling as he drives through the derelict, Corktown streets. He’s more and more surprised by this call the closer he gets to the address. This neighborhood is too much like the ones he’d grown up in, the ones where violence is routine and people don’t trust the police. The sinking feeling in his gut grows larger with every block he passes. Soon enough he pulls up to one of the larger, more intact houses in the place. He double checks the address, calling in his location over the CB. Shifting his jacket closer around him, he steps out into the chilly, fall air, climbing up the front steps to knock in the door. He can hear them from here. An angry, raised voice, masculine, hoarse. The dull thud of a fist upon skin. A shrill cry. A child. He doesn’t hesitate. With one motion, he draws his gun, kicking open the cheap door and yelling, “Freeze! Detroit police!” The assailant rushes him, roaring something incomprehensible. A red steam flecks from his lips and his eyes are bloodshot and dilated. Red Ice, Gavin thinks. He’s familiar enough to know the symptoms. Enough to know he can't hesitate. Gavin pulls the trigger, shoots the man straight through the heart, and he falls to the floor, dead. Behind the body, a woman watches him with cautious eyes, her arms wrapped around a sobbing child. Her arms are saturated with a deep blue, especially dark near the shoulder of her standard uniform. An android. Gavin had just killed a man for an android?! He lets out a shuddering breathe and eloquently exclaims: “Fuck. Or! The one where Gavin saves Kara from Todd before she’s deactivated for the first time. The story sparks controversy and he unwillingly becomes the centerpiece of the debate for android rights. And perhaps worst of all, with the more he interacts with the two androids he saved, the more he begins to believe he might actually be on the right side of things...

So yeah, another pretty random one? I just remember thinking, wouldn't it be interesting to tie Kara's story in more with things? Considering the timeline, I think this would put this at a week or two before the start of the main game, considering Kara has only recently been repaired when it begins? And it would offer such an interesting take on a Gavin redemption fic, y'know? I love the potential of something like this. I feel like it'd be something that'd have to handled delicately though and I think I'm definitely not the one to write it. Too much... tension and politics for my simplistic style. u^_^

I saw someone doing this! Idk if it's okay to tag them so I'm just not gonna xD

WIP#1 - Stabbity Stab stab stab (to be decided title) Oso gets stabbed again whoopsy. The context is that I binged a hospital drama, and wanted Oso to secretly get a minor surgery but he reopens his wound, Animatsu with maybe a bit of Matsuyo at the beginning I'm still deciding.

Here's an excerpt:

"How long have you been feeling like that niisan?" He says, quietly.

"Feeling like what Kara?" He asks, genuinely confused.

"Like you think we don't care about you"

WIP#2 - Oso with glasses. I've had this idea for a really long time XD basically the context is that since HS Oso has had really shitty eyesight and he actually got his glasses the same time as Choromatsu, he just got contacts as soon as he could because he thinks glasses make him look stupid.

Here's a draft of what I'm planning:

"You lost your contacts!?" and Oso explains that his contact lens case was empty this morning and he doesn't know where tf it went and Choromatsu goes "Dumbass. It's a good thing we still have your old glasse--"

And when he turns with the glasses case in hand, he sees Oso mad pouting. And he's like unimpressed and says "Don't tell me you still hate wearing these." And Oso just pouts MORE because he was never really vocal about things he was genuinely uncomfortable about.

THERE'S LITERALLY 3 MORE AND IT'S GETTING LONG SO IF U WANNA CONT. IT'S UNDER THE CUT

WIP#3 - Drunk Oso singing praises for his brothers. I JUST REALLY REALLY REALLY LIKE THE IDEA OF OSO BEING MORE HONEST AND CHILDISH WHEN HE'S DRUNK. So like the context is that Oso is out in a bar drowning himself in beer because he had a big fight with the others at home because of a misunderstanding.

Here's part of my draft:

"But... You know...? I wouldn't trade being the eldest for aaanything" *twirls the alcohol left in his glass* "Because I love them a lot, like a lot a lot!" Spreads his arms open wide "like thiiiis much!" *laughs like a lil kid* "they're my precious little brothers!"

"they might not know that though..." *laughs lightly and is suddenly solemn* "I wish I could be the big brother they deserve... But all I seem to do is fuck everything up. I bet they would like it if I never went h-- *yawns* home..."

WIP#4 - I'm calling this one "Insomnia and Pills" it's mainly Beni and all of them. So basically the plot is, So imagine Oso has to take sleeping pills every night cos he's been having nightmares like nonstop for the past month so he finally decides to do something about it. But like he has to take it after dinner and right before bed yeah? So like, What if a brother catches him taking them?

Here's a bit of a rough draft:

"Osomatsu-niisan since when have you been taking those pills??" all worried like-- and Oso panics like 'oh shit' and like "They're just sleeping pills it's not a big deal" and the bro is like, "How long have you had trouble sleeping!?" Cos honestly they SHOULD HAVE noticed, and Oso's like 'well shit I made it worse' and like "I said it's not a big deal! C'mon let's get to bed"

And he tries to leave, but the bro grabs his arm to stop him and like "Niisan." It's just one word but like Oso just sighs heavily like "I'm already used to it at this point, I told you it's nothing you should worry about. It's already been a month okay? Let's just go to bed"

And like he jerks his arm away from their hold and goes upstairs and like, you can expect an intervention comin for the poor niichan

"He better not think he's gonna get away with this."

WIP#5 - This one's part of my "Osomatsu-niisan Can do That?" Series where basically it's 6 fics where each of the bros find out that niichan is secretly talented. This ones is Choromatsu's!

I don't have a proper draft for it but the summary is basically "♥️💚Choromatsu is worried about what they're going to do for lunch with their parents not home, and is shocked to see who's making lunch in the kitchen"

also took this more seriously than necessary but my god. do i have opinions on this.. 🤪

tl;dr pretty much nothing the writers are doing gbhfjsdk just have it be ninja adventure slice of life

tbh theres a lot of things i feel just.. dont really work about the entire concept of it as a sequel

imo its pretty apparent that theyre struggling to form a cohesive plot based on a series that didnt have the most cohesive writing/worldbuilding/lore to begin with and there’s the whole issue of trying to shift focus on a new set of protagonists when the old ones are considered the strongest in their universe and literally killed a god. it leaves the writers with no other options than going even bigger and bigger (like idk. implanting boruto with aliengod.zip) and at some point it just feels.. very out of proportion and like the writers are struggling to bring it all together in a way that makes sense 🤔

not to even mention the original series theme of revolution resulting in... none of the systems changing... the protagonists complacency in the very systems that traumatized them, that became their drive to fight for change... idk its so disheartening lol

as for what i do think would work, its probably short stories or arcs 🤔

little snippets of their life like the hokage inauguration short, which i think showcased the best of boruto lol juxtaposing their everyday life with them all just having these immense powers, having the older and younger generations conflicts intertwine, showing them adusted/adjusting to a different life entirely

also really liked the anime’s mitsuki arc since it linked established conflicts from the original series to those of the newer generation in a way that doesnt alienate the viewer if they havent seen naruto. focused on processing the war and how to move forward, change things for the better, trying and failing. what it means to be human and what it means to create life. worked really well imo.

but yeah more of that basically!! how has the world changed, what remains, how are the systems changing; focussing the legacy theme on the last 3 generations instead of the otsutsuki

for example i really like the parent/child training filler episodes or the idea with the internships and differing career options lol (tho i still think they shouldnt make kids work full time jobs at age 12 but what do i know)

so basically just more of that!! and more actual change lol. when they said they hadnt done a single thing for ame in those 15 years.. oh rage. theres kids living in sewer systems.. literally killing themselves for an organization promising them the change they desperately want... sounds familiar 🤔

you know (boruto spoiler!!) maybe konoha deserved to have kara snatch some of jiraiyas corpse dna idk

all that being said i still think the best option for a sequel wouldve been one set ~5 years after the end of shippuden. have team 7 lead their own teams. have kakashi be hokage if there really has to be one. theyre still relevant, can still show their powers without taking away from the new teams developement too much. put more focus on how the world is changing after what happened with pain and the 4th war. show how theyre rebuilding and reforming the systems that lead to those events.

is that a poetry collection at the top of my rankings?? did i find it through a quotation i found on tumblr?? you bet it is and you bet i did.

also as a fun fact i rated every single book i read this month 3 or 4 stars 🤷‍♂️

postcolonial love poem - natalie diaz ★★★★☆ (poetry)

beautiful collection and i especially loved the variance in form. the collection has its central themes but each piece feels unique and new all the way until the end. i wish i was better at picking out poetry to read because when it hits, it definitely hits!!

iron widow - xiran jay zhao ★★★★☆ (YA fantasy)

this reads like a mishmash of multiple midtier animes but it’s so much fun and easy to get swept away in. also the love triangle resolves in the best way possible

the library at mount char - scott hawkins ★★★★☆ (fantasy)

something about this book is delightfully unhinged. it’s the extreme violence hand-in-hand with outrageous humour that still leads to tenderness. i finished reading this book at like 3:30am while sick and unable to sleep and it’s haunted me since

exit strategy - martha wells ★★★★☆ (scifi, novella)

finally a return to the cast that made murderbot so lovable in the first novella. i was so so excited to be back with these characters and there was one scene in particular that was just so cute 🥺

home: habitat, range, niche, territory - martha wells ★★★★☆ (scifi, short story)

i actually read this short story before i read anything else murderbot, and found it pretty comprehensible, which i completely stand by on reread. excellent short story that stands on its own merits but does a lot of work in the series by giving us the non-murderbot perspective

into the wild - erin hunter ★★★★☆ (fantasy)

i was obsessed with these books as a kid and wanted to do a reread. it held up well! the plot and characters were more complex than i remembered/expected. it did however kill me inside that the cats always use the dialogue tag “meowed” instead of “said” because that sure is not invisible

the ones who walk away from omelas - ursula k le guin ★★★★☆ (fantasy, short story)

classic short story that i’ve held dear ever since i first heard about it. the premise itself is the interesting bit; the writing itself didn’t particularly stand out

that weekend - kara thomas ★★★★☆ (YA thriller)

my friend spoiled this book for me and i was still surprised. rarely does a thriller manage to wring so much shock/anger from me so i have to give this one props! none of the characters are cartoonishly evil, they’re just awful/selfish people who can’t see beyond themselves, and i think that makes the best kind of thriller

we were liars - e lockhart ★★★☆☆ (YA thriller)

the ending was kind of bullshit and felt thematically disconnected from the rest of the book but i have to admit i read this entire book in an afternoon so clearly it was engaging enough

frying plantain - zalika reid-benta ★★★☆☆ (contemporary, short stories)

the main character was so annoying to me but it was still written well. i’d be curious to learn why the author insists it’s a collection of short stories and not a novel when it reads like a novel

the killing moon - n k jemisin ★★★☆☆ (fantasy)

ok i really need to just read the broken earth trilogy instead of reading everything around it because it’s turning me off of jemisin’s writing. this book reads almost entirely like set-up for a conflict yet to come - it takes forever for our main character to buy in to the central idea of the novel and then it’s resolved in a ridiculously simplistic way. the world is so interesting and richly developed and deserves far more interesting characters and plots.

acowar reread thread

so i think i’ll update this post every few chapters unless anything super major happens that i want to immediately react to, that way you get my commentary but i’m not totally flooding and flooding and flooding your feed with a super super long post. i think i’m going to edit it under the cut and reblog it every time it gets updated and i’ll also number every update so it’s easy to find where i left off. if you guys prefer the other way i’ll transition back to the other way for acofas.) this is super fun i’ll start doing this for more books if you’re interested, including books i read for the first time. (after acofas, crescent city is next and it’ll be my first time reading it!)

UPDATES UNDER THE CUT.

1) chapters 1-5 I’ve read up through chapter five and so far my favorite thing is just how DONE feyre is with literally everyone in the spring court. the amount of times she’s had to like look away and not roll her eyes is just hilarious, her dry inner monologue, she just made a comment about having to remind herself to laugh and not strangle tamlin while they were dancing at the summer solstice and it just is so funny to me.

i miss rhys. but the few times they’ve spoken through the bond is enough to tide me over. he told her he loved her once and i sighed out loud. i’m such trash for this bitch.

feyre hijacking the summer solstice ceremony is COMEDIC GOLD. like you kNOW ianthe was fuming and furious and trying to save face the best she could but like hats off to feyre man. her character development from book one to where we’re at in book three is fantastic. she’s not a simpering little girl anymore, she’s a bad bitch and she kNOWS she’s a bad bitch and it’s just.. fucking great.

i also, as much as i don’t want to, feel for lucien A LOT. i think a lot of his behavior is heavily influenced by how he’s been treated by tamlin for most of his life and i feel genuine remorse from him and the fact that he can like tell something is up but isn’t saying anything just shows, to me anyway, how much remorse he’s genuinely feeling.

also alis knowing that something is up is just a testament to how attentive she is as a faerie and a friend and i really love that about her.

“I was the nightmare” YAS BITCH. FUCKIN YAASSS.

2) chapters 6-10 feyre is so goddamn clever. the entire time she’s bringing down the spring court she’s witty and fierce and clever and really just iS THAT BITCH, HUH?

i don’t like jurian but the fact that he still has compassion within himself for his kind despite being literally insane for being just AWAKE and aware for like 500 years is... nice and pleasantly surprising because i feel like you wouldn’t think that of him being that he’s siding with hybern so that he thanked feyre when she tried to get the children of the blessed out of there... i don’t know why i’m bringing this up, it’s just something that stuck out to me and that jurian also vouches (to feyre) about rhysand’s character and how decent of a person he found him to be. it’s just very interesting and i feel like speaks leaps and bounds about rhysand as a person.

feyre pushing tamlin to explode again... just CHEF KISS. like she really thought of everything. she thought of everything to internally make his sentries doubt him and then completely hate them by orchestrating the ianthe vs sentry debacle. she made herself seem very compassionate and kind and and showed tamlin and ianthe for what they were by doing genuinely so little. like all she did was make them show their true colors on their own and it didn’t take tOO much manipulation. idk feyre is just incredible in the spring court.

forcing ianthe to hurt herself and molding her mind to make her think she’s always afraid is so much better than just outright killing her.. (if i remember from my last read, it doesn’t hold up, but the thought is there and it’s genius) I also think that this shows a lot about feyre and her character because despite everything she couldn’t just leave lucien alone with ianthe and the unwanted advances. she stayed and fought for her friend (and by extension her mate) even when lucien wouldn’t really fight for her and so feyre is just a fuckin real one like... she’s the kind of friend that you want in your corner.

killing the hybern twins: glorious. such badassery from lucien and feyre both.

and i think it’s nice that she let lucien come along with her on her journey back to the night court despite maybe not wanting to but i also think that she knew if she left him behind he could get in serious trouble or wind up dead and so again, i think it says a lot about her character as a person.

3) chapters 11-15 i’m kind of reading and recapping every 50 pages or so which typically ends up being 4-5 chapters and it’s a good system so far so we’re gonna keep it up!

the first thing of like, real substance to comment on is lucien saying his father will kill feyre for wielding his power but feyre just responding with “he can get in line.” like her sass is sO GOOD In this book, especially in the spring court chapters.

uhhh big fuck you to eris, i don’t know why people want him to have a redemption arc, he is literally a fat sack of shit that deserves to burn and i’m not sorry for saying so. he’s abusive and cruel and doesn’t deserve like, anything at all. although i will say good on him for balking a bit when feyre revealed she’s high lady.

CASSIAN AND AZRIEL SUPERHERO LANDING ON THE ICE AND KICKING ASS!! I remember vividly the relief i felt when cassian showed up and was able to fly and i still felt so much victory when it happened again. it’s one of my favorite moments of the book so far and just really gets me. also feyre just dropping the “I’m high lady of the night court” bomb is DELICIOUS and i can’t get enough. i read it like six times. because you know as soon as the illyrians yielded to her that the autumn bitches were like “shit.”

“My love.” kILLS ME. you guys, i’ve only read this book once but i’ve reread their reuniting multiple times because it’s just so soft. rhys is so goddamn soft. he loves her so fucking much. i want rhys to call me my love and lick my tears away. goddamn.

something i think about a lot is how in acotar when tamlin had feyre alone after months of torture he just tried to fuck her despite knowing things weren’t safe. however, knowing she was home and safe, rhys didn’t try for that immediately. like yes, they kissed, but there was so much conversation before they fucked that it just, says a lot about their relationship. tamlin also always demanded to know everything about feyre’s visits as soon as she was back, not even bothering to kiss her hello but rhys was like ‘that shit can wait’ AND THEY’RE ABOUT TO GO TO WAR. rhys loves her so wholly that he wanted to make sure she was okay before he ever bothered to ask about the spring court and how everything unfolded the last few weeks. idk i’m trash for rhysand, y’all. let’s make that a shirt.

amren being a bedtime story but irl is just a cranky aunt lmao.

nesta’s ferocity is, yes, frustrating, but also so heartbreaking to me. for a very long time i had a really rough relationship with my sister and i can see my own sister in nesta (who, by the way, would murder me if she found out i said this so, kara, if u see this, i love u endlessly and i love nesta with my whole heart) especially nesta’s behavior more so in acofas which i’ll talk more about when we get there. but i just, i feel for her man. she’s been traumatized and life as she knows it has been ripped away from her and some people respond to trauma with bite. and i know it doesn’t make it right or okay but it still just makes me feel for her.

cassian and nesta’s banter just gODDAMMIT SLAYS ME. i cannot wait for an entire fucking book of this shit and an entire book of their back and forth. i think nesta loves him and doesn’t know what to do with it because she’s scared so she’s acting like a cornered animal. like nesta is a snake that will strike when cornered and threatened and i just god i can’t wait for their book.

elain... broke my heart a lot more than i remembered. as someone in the midst of my worst depression i find myself able to relate to that hollow and empty feeling like...all too well and it struck a cord and i almost cried at how empty she was.

4) chapters 16-29 there is the whole meeting at amren’s apartment and cassian defends nesta, saying that he understands her actions, her snark, why she is the way she is, and it just honestly reinforces my love for cassian. i don’t have much to say about it but that i just really love the respect that he has for others. more cassian things: feyre brings up again how even broken and literally bleeding out and on the ground with his wings completely shredded he was still crawling toward nesta and reaching for her and trying to get to her. “because i can’t stay away.” fucking cracks my heart open every time.

i love everything about the first family dinner back together. i love all the banter, i love that nesta sat in and even contributed to dinner conversation a little bit. lucien being so uncertain of the dynamic is hilarious. amren like opening herself up in a way to nesta and telling her that they’re the same, and to make sure her eruption is felt across worlds, i love it. i’m marking a lot more from amren than i thought i would. cassian at one point, he points to az and says “don’t try to blend into the shadows” and it actually made me chuckle to myself because hE DOES THAT. and it’s funny that cassian calls him on it.

i don’t think nesta gets enough credit (for like anything, we all been knew i’m a slut for her and stan her with my life) but even as broken and angry as she was she did still offer to help explore magic that she doesn’t want and got as a result of trauma so that she can try to help. she isn’t completely useless. and i like that she has backbone and isn’t just a pushover little bitch. (that isn’t directed toward elain. like i previously mentioned, i’m finding that i relate a lot to her in her current state.) i just mean that i’m glad she sticks up for herself and doesn’t just like, do what people tell her to do. ya know?

rhys being so open to feyre pushing back on him about things like, again man. tamlin erupted and got angry, rhys is like “hell, i deserved it.” just, the differences in their relationships and the toxicity that comes from tamlin and the devotion rhys has for feyre is (say it with me) DELICIOUS.

i also like that just because feyre is high lady that the IC doesn’t just like flop over and bend down and take shit (i’m looking at you, spring court.) like cassian isn’t afraid to be like “you pissed me off by sacrificing yourself.” because he cares. LIKE, AGAIN WITH HIS DEVOTION. his loyalty is just so pure. it isn’t blind but it is pure and i just, god i love it.

also everyone forgets that azriel has a dry ass sense of humor and i don’t see any of y’all writing it into your fics. “In order to fly, you’ll need wings” he said drily. IT’S DELICIOUS. dry humor is some of the best. and i like that feyre is learning more and getting to spend more time with him.

5) chapter 20-27 this one will be a bit of a dump because i accidentally read too much today so far to try to catch up from my lack of reading yesterday so... oops.

“Let’s see what names you call me when my head is between your legs, Feyre darling.” ugh. i wish a mans would say that to me. not really. i wish rhys would say that to me and only rhys. maybe rowan. or aaron warner. or cassian. or -- you get it.

amren is SO FUCKING FUNNY without doing it on purpose. like genuinely hilarious. “she’s fine. stubborn as an ass, but as you’re related, i’m not surprised.” rOAST THEM. also amren makes nesta almost smile and she makes her laugh all in the span of like ten seconds AND nesta almost smiles when amren brings up cassian. coincidencE? i tHINK NOT.

again with rhys soothing her nightmares. like god it’s so good i dont even have to say anything else abt it.

feyre realizing that the bone carver is her and rhysand’s son. SO GOOD. like SERIOUSLY SO GOOD. and this doesn’t matter at all rn but i think that rhysand’s son has the potential to be more powerful than even him but that’s a thing to get into for another time.

EVERYTHING THE BONE CARVER SAYS ABOUT NESTA. also that it’s directed at cassian is very interesting and i think the bone carver knows they’re mates. like i wonder if cassian is seeing what feyre sees: his own son. WOULDN’T THAT BE INTERESTING. “How she calls to you.” also the comment about “what did you wake that day in hybern, prince of bastards?” what did cassian wake. the wording here is interesting and i have... a lot of questions. does anyone else just also really fucking enjoy the bone carver as a character? like he’s excellent i’ve never read anything quite like him.

“nothing about nesta could frighten me” UGH MY NESSIAN HEART CAN’T FUCKING TAKE IT.

also cassian stepping it later when nesta is furious with rhysand about the flying. like, one when he sighs and says she’ll never fly again is just... funny and adorable but how nesta was charging for rhys and he casually stepped in front of her and he talked her down. “It was amren’s fault, of course, but no one believed me. and no on dare banish her.” like just babbling a bit to bring her back down to earth. absolutely fascinating and delicious that it worked, wouldn’t you agree? ;)

court of nightmares is always a pleasure. fuck eris.

also later at the town house when amren and mor and rhys are kinda going at it a bit and cassian gets nesta’s attention and nesta sidles over to him without questioning it... like. god if they aren’t endgame i’ll never read an SJM book ever again and i wholeheartedly mean that.

so i’ve seen the posts about amren being an angel i’m not sure if you guys have but yeah i think that’s a really solid theory. i think she very well could be a biblical angel because she mentioned that according to some they were perfect, that they laid waste to twin cities (sodom & gamorrah if this theory is correct) and she also mentioned yielding her grace and that she would fall. she also says she was a messenger and soldier assassin for a wrathful god ruling a young world and all of that, in my opinion, lines up with a lot of what is in the bible and what christians believe to be true. so i really really like this theory, i doubt it will ever be outright confirmed, but i think this is going to be my canon tbh.

elain is.... out of her mind. it’s fucking weird everything she says is so cryptic and odd. like it’s just weird. i don’t think she’s insane and i can’t remember exactly where elain’s storyline goes in this book but like... rn it’s just weird and cryptic and a little unsettling and also interesting that she only really responds directly to azriel because everyone else she kinda ignores but she talks to him. interesting.

6) chapters 28-49 clearly i accidentally read A LOT so we have a lOT Of ground to cover.

NESTA WAS TOTALLY CHECKING CASSIAN OUT AND THAT’S ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT.

azriel has fucking jokes, man. page 303 (hardcover us edition) “That pine tree wasn’t there a moment ago.” “Judging by its size, i’d say it’s been there for ... two hundred years at least.” feyre even notes that he has a dry sense of humor and it comes out more when they’re alone. i can’t get enough of it. i wish he talked more.

“Cassian finished the muffin, licking his fingers. I could have sworn nesta watched the entire thing with a sidelong glance. He grinned at her as if he knew it too.” i just love nessian so much i’m going to point out all of their cute reactions this is turning more into a nessian reaction thread SUE ME.

I think that nesta has a lot of regret and guilt over her life.over how she treated feyre because it comes out when nesta brings up to feyre that she didn’t know she couldn’t read (and again at the high lords meeting when she says they would have starved if it wasn’t for her.) i think she feels deeply and just doesn’t know what to do with it, doesn’t know how to express it.

When they almost get taken in the library, and cassian gets there and nesta “launches herself at him.” my heart. she was scared and she didn’t care she was just so relieved. like fuck me up that’s the shit i like.

nesta asking where cassian is the moment they get back from the battle in adriata and she was worried and scared for him. later when she does see him i think this is when the mating bond clicks into place. it’s page 398 and she says “You didn’t come to -” and then cuts herself off. they have a really fucking intense moment. cassian takes her hand and laces their fingers and they don’t really say anything for a beat until he says “Next time, emissary, i’ll come say hello.” but his voice is low and rough when he says it. “The world seemed to go utterly still at that interrupted sentence, nothing and no one more so than cassian.” i think this is when it clicks for him. maybe not for nesta but definitely for cassian.

RHYSAND RIPPING TAMLIN’S ABILITY TO SPEAK AWAY LIKE YES WE STAN A MOTHERFUCKING KING. fuck tamlin. fuck eris. and fuck beron. also nesta defending cassian in the high lords meeting (page 438, because beron calls him a bastard.) again, i’m just saying, she’s defending her fucking mate i can’t deal. feyre also exploding in the meeting and rhys just being like “You’ve proved your point, my love.” SO DELICIOUS. “I made her high lady because i love her. her power was the last thing i considered.” like fucking hELL that is how you treat your woman.

after the meeting, helion being like “You handing eris’s ass to him will be my new fantasy at night, by the way.” DELICIOUS. fucking hilarious. 10/10 recommend helion as a high lord and a mans we love to see it.

also cassian being so concerned when nesta starts to have that feeling about the cauldron being used before the wall gets shattered.he didn’t doubt her feelings for a second, i mean no one did, but he was completely unyielding when he sensed her fear and immediately looked for any sign of an immediate threat.

nesta saying she’s never worn pants and cassian saying “i have no doubt you’d start a riot if you did.” he’s thinking bout that ass. also cassian giving her a quick lesson in defense before they yeet off to the human lands to see graysen and his family. IDK I REALLY LOVE NESSIAN OKAY?!

7) chapter 50-the end. i accidentally finished the book. oops.

super intersted in nesta’s powers and if she is a witch. i can’t remember acofas at all and if nesta’s powers manifest in that book but i’m eager to see if the fracturing of the cauldron didn’t effect whatever powers she took from it. i think that could also be part of what ultimately is wrong with her on top of all the trauma.

nesta helping cassian after that first battle when his wrist is hurt. she didn’t take no for an answer and helped him and it was just really soft until mor showed up and cassian pulled his hand away. i’m conflicted about what it means to be totally honest. what it means for his feelings for nesta and what it means where mor is concerned. i don’t love how morrigan treats nesta and cassian’s... relationship? but i don’t dislike mor. i think she’s dealing and coping and has her reasons that we will likely find out about.

“Only you can decide what breaks you” is something i’d like to get tattooed. i dont really have anything else to add to it.

i was sobbing during rhys’s battle speech to everyone. i dont rlly have anything else to say about it other than i’m emo.

nesta saving cassian. again i don’t have shit to say about it other than like it makes me so emotional. she just started blinding screaming, hoping that he would come. i can’t even begin to think what his death would have done to her.

the bone carver smiling at feyre before he did hits a very specific piece of my heart and i’m not sure why or what but i had chills all over my body.

cassian telling rhys to let him return the favor/repay the debt. HURT. another thing i cried over. like shut the fuck cassian AIN’T NOBODY DYIN TODAY.

tHE Nessian moment to end all nessian moments when they would die together. like big fucking wow. you can’t tell me they’re not mates. that they don’t love each other despite how complicated all of it is. like cassian is so soft in the most unique way for her because he knows she bites and he lets her and he bites back and i just think it’s what he needs.

“tell the high lord to leave out a cup for me” AMREN SHUT UP. like fucking christ i teared up then too because i really really love her character. she’s unique and funny and dry and cranky and i just love her so much.

i’m tired of rhys sacrificing himself. there, i said it. i cried like a fucking baby and of course he woke up being a snarky little shit.

i love the end of this book. i don’t know what i’ll do with myself until january when the next one comes out. i’ll probably go back to the other format for my next read through because it’s easier and less longwinded and i think you guys liked the other way better. anywho, thank you for coming along on this lil journey!!

What was supposed to be a quiet, calming night in with your girlfriend was slowly turning into a messy disaster. It was one of the few nights where Carol could stay in with you, where she wasn’t on the other end of the universe saving lives, and you intended to make the most of it. Simpler was better, you thought, so you proposed to make dinner together before having a movie night.

It turns out, Carol Danvers, your superhero girlfriend who you’re convinced can carry planets on her shoulders, is a horrible cook.

“y/n!” you hear Carol yell your name from the kitchen, and you frown as you look up. You had momentarily left her alone to keep an eye on the food while you were getting changed, after Carol had accidentally spilled some sauce on your shirt. Quickly pulling on a comfortable hoodie, you emerged from your bedroom to find Carol staring at you with wide eyes, almost comically holding up a wooden spoon as she stands by the stove, where the nearby pan is engulfed in flames.

“Carol!” you exclaim, rushing over to her as you quickly lower the heat, fanning the flames with your hands as you quickly remove the pan from the stovetop. Turning to her, you splutter, “What did you do?”

“I didn’t think it was cooking fast enough!” Carol defensively explains, still wielding the spoon as she throws her hands up in the air. “So I just turned up the fire. I didn’t know the whole thing would end up burning!”

“Oh my God,” you snort, barely able to hold back your laughter at the situation. “You’re ridiculous. You’re going to ruin our dinner!”

Carol’s lips wobble into a smile as her gaze falls into the pan. “Hate to break it to you, but I think it’s already ruined.”

You look down at the burnt vegetables, before letting out a dramatic sigh. You turn, dumping it into the trashcan, before turning around to face Carol. She offers you a sheepish smile, before suggesting, “Takeout?”

“You’re officially banned from the kitchen.” you point her towards the living room, and she bursts into loud laughter, the type of laughter that’s so easily contagious, with her smile lighting up her entire face. Shaking your head at her, you say, “Well, at least we can still watch movies.”

“Hey, I’ll make it up to you. I’ll go order the pizza, you can go set up the TV with whatever movie you want to watch.” Carol tells you, and you grin at her.

“Perfect,” you respond, leaning forward to give her a kiss, and Carol chuckles as she kisses you back.

I just finished ep 2 and I love this podcast!! You're both so insightful and very engaging speakers. hot take, no female Merlin character has done anything wrong, ever. Also edith I see u bringing up a jonmartin quote in relation to Merlin and Arthur 👀 I look forward to a Morgana ep, who I love for purely heterosexual and not at all sapphic reasons. Merlin also has the BEST side characters, like Kara and Daegal and Gilli, so I hope they get some love too!!

Okay so we all know who your top ships are... who are your unpopular ships? Or obscure ships? What characters from what series do you think about often in either good or bad ways? Who is a character that you hate that others love? If you could rewrite a story or part of a book, what would it be and what would you do differently?

Ok I am digging through my brain right now bc if I’m not able to hyperfixate on something then I tend to forget I even liked it. Ok buckle in bc this is gonna be long af. YOU ASKED FOR THIS, REG.

Thinking about Veronica Mars. About Veronica/Logan. Do they have a ship name?? But I love that show and i was THERE for them. They were kind of a surprise ship for me, in that when they got together I was like, wait, WHAT? Like I was totally caught off guard. But there first kiss is, like, sooo romantic to me haha. It’s my fave scene in the show. But Logan is suck a prick sometimes. And they break up like every five minutes. And every season Logan gets accused of murder which of course he ends up not being the murderer. And they get back together eventually and I’m like really? But deep down I am rooting for them lol. I really enjoyed the new season of Veronica Mars that came out last year, actually. The ending made me SO SAD THO.

I also used to watch Supergirl and I thought Kara and Mon-El were adorable. He was very Carswell Thorne-esque, RH, I *think* you would like him. I never watched past season 3(?) though, and he shoots off into space and I never caught up so a few months ago I actually googled what happens and [spoiler] he ends up marrying someone else in the future or something so I was like, ok I’m not investing any more time in this show lol. (Also I had to google Mon-El’s name just now bc i forgot which is a bad look BUT I WAS REALLY RIDE OR DIE FOR THEM FOR A WHILE lol). Also I loved Martian Manhunter in this show, he was my favorite character. But the CGI for him was awful, omg. He had practical makeup at first, they should have just stuck with that.

Speaking of Martian Manhunter, I also used to watch Young Justice and loved Miss Martian/Superboy. Am I basic??? lol oop. But I love basic love stories. Anyway, I thought they were super cute. In season 3 though they’re kind of on the rocks. I haven’t watched season 4. I also loved Artemis/Wally West, but of course that had to end tragically.

Also, let’s talk about Nightcrawler. Allow me to set the scene. Little Kat is 13 and just rediscovered the cartoon she saw a few times as a kid called X-Men: Evolution. And thus, a weird obsession with the German, blue demon boy began. I loved Kurt Wagner. In the cartoon he starts a relationship with Amanda Sefton and I thought they were a-dor-a-ble. She accepted him for who he was, and they had a really nice healthy relationship. A lot of ppl shipped him with Kitty too which i am honestly all for idec I JUST WANT THE BLUE BOI TO BE HAPPY.

Can we talk about A:TLA too??? Like, obviously Zutara, amiright? Power couple. Like, Kataang is.. fine, but its probably my least favorite part about the ending, haha. Also, consider: Tokka. Toph is bae and can get anyone she wants, and she clearly had kind of a crush on Sokka and I think they could have been awesome. It actually kills me that they never say who Lin and Suyin’s father is in LoK. I had a whole theory that it was that kid The Duke from Jet’s band based on like 2 scenes from the series. There’s a tumblr post I made about it somewhere in the ether lol.

I also just remembered Tahnorra (Tahno/Korra) from Legend of Korra. It’s hard for me to explain this one. It’s a weird combination of being hyperfixated on the first season of the show when it came out, and I think I stumbled upon some fic or something???? And I thought Tahno was hot or something??? And FUN FACT, he was voice by Rami Malek BEFORE HE WAS COOL. So like before Rami really got big I knew who he was. He also basically played the Avatar in Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 and I thought that connection was hilarious. It was kind of a problematic crack pairing but there was one author in particular whom i follow to this day hoping she’ll update her Tahnorra fics…. *sigh*

Okay one last ship…. I used to be ride or die for Outlaw Queen in Once Upon a Time (aka Regina/Robin Hood). Like, before TLC, I had a personal tumblr renaissance for that ship alone. My only existing published fanfic is for that ship. Taylor Swift’s 1989 came out that year and I related every dang song to that ship. I loved Regina so much and I just wanted her to be happy. That show is a dumpster fire, though, and spat all over my hopes and dreams. *sigh*

Frank Castle/Karen Page (The Punisher) ok this one isnt that obscure but I never talk about it… but the pining, oh god the pining

Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth (GoT) THEIR 5 SECONDS TOGETHER ARE THE ONLY WORTHY PART OF SEASON 8. everything after that never happened

I already listed Roy Mustang/Riza Hawkeye (FMAB) as a top pairing previously but I feel the need to mention it again bc it was for real my OG OTP… LIKE U WANNA TALK ABOUT PINING…. *sobs*

Percy/Annabeth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) This used to be my fave book series and i loved how their relationship developed over the course of the books

Neville Longbottom/Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) ok can we TALK ABOUT THIS??? They were both badass misfits and they were perfect for each other. But noooo JKR has to announce they marry some nobodies…. this is the only change the last movie did right

Midna/Link (Zelda: Twilight Princess) I honestly have no explanation for this lol

Qui-gon Jinn and Shmi (Star Wars) CAN U IMAGINE if anakin had a proper father figure and didnt have to abandon his mother to slavery

OK, to answer some of your other questions: character I hate that others love. HMMMM…….

This one seems too easy/obvious but Professor Snape? Like obviously there’s already a ton of discourse surrounding this but he was gross, mistreated his students for years, committed atrocities, couldn’t get over his high school crush, and we’re supposed to believe he’s a hero in the end and HARRY WOULD NAME HIS SON AFTER HIM….. uh no. “Always” is gross.

I’ve literally been wracking my brain for days and I can’t think of any more characters for this. OK I did some googling and I remembered some LOL.

Ross from friends…. I literally can’t stand him. He’s so entitled and just the worst. He tries to act like he’s the nice, sensitive guy, but really he is so full of himself. Joey on the other hand is portrayed as a womanizer but is actually super sweet and I love him

Archie from Riverdale… I have only seen the first 1.5 seasons ish but he is the worst…. we’re supposed to believe he’s some easygoing musically gifted football player but instead he manages to pull off being bland as heck and actually kind of a terrible garbage person

Nick from chilling adventures of Sabrina. I hate characters that are like hitting on the main character even though she has a bf and are like dark and broody and sexy blah blah blah…. I liked Harvey way better. I never finished season 2 tho

Emma Swan from Once Upon a Time? Idk she was fine she just got old after a while

Ok, ok….. what abouuuttt…… OK, is star wars when Han and Leia get together. I like them as a couple, but the entire first half of the movie Han is being such an ass. And when they kiss the first time, he’s being SOOO creepy. It’s like so quintessentially 80s romance. and HERE’S THE THING. They actually filmed (or maybe just wrote?) a version of that scene that WASNT CREEPY. And i’m like WHY DIDNT YOU USE THAT?!? So I like to pretend that’s the version that actually happened.

Random Headcanon

Every so often Kara likes to doodle when he feels like it. He has a sketchbook full of doodles and studies of his brothers, who he draws when they're all just lounging around the house. As such they're all in sitting or lying positions and he's able to capture their personalities in each doodle. There's a handful of pages that are just studies of Oso, reclining on the couch reading a comic, sleeping at the kotatsu or any number of things.

Choro raises succulents and it makes him feel happy because he's able to put his energy into nurturing something and watching it grow. It makes him feel better about himself because he gets to see something beautiful thrive because of his love and care! It's a positive and therapeutic feeling and it always makes him feel better when he's sad or anxious.

It's almost 2020 and we still have to say that Choro is not more perverted or cursed than any of the other brothers. They have all had poorly aging jokes at least once in the show by now. It's a shock humour comedy and we KNOW that they fluctuate almost every episode. We rely entirely on translated subtitles that are never going to be 100% accurate.

Choro is ALWAYS always drawn very moe and cute (partly due to Asano-san's influence as head illustrator) so his appearances in official art are (usually) very childlike in nature imo. So when the staff released this series of images it hit me like a truck because he looks really mature here?? It's a really good look for him, Mature Choro is not a thing we get a lot of (Kara occupies the Sexy box and Oso gets all the mature atmosphere just because he's the eldest) so this picture really sticks with me, I just love how grown up he looks.
