i got such a bad migraine someone pls remind me to come back to this when i can form a good thought™ and word it properly but. dc officials have to have SOME level of awareness of the constent mistreatment of talia's character to reduce her to a punchline or antagonist again and again... like, we see it in worlds finest, gotham knights, whatever recent that features her — you cant tell me that it isnt just intentionally decided again and again to continue writing her like this despite being aware of the problematic qualities of it. they have enough awareness in the fandom to bring up uwu batfam moments and make little gags and schticks in multiple pieces of media but they just coincidentally dont see people being rightfully upset at how dc continues to portray her?? bullshit. its as if theyre constantly trying to pretend she wasnt disgustingly retconned and she was just always like this because then they dont have to admit their own continue history of racism and misogyny.

theres still so many batfam focused ppl that will willingly choose again and again to either ignore or excuse their raciam and misogyny. they know they can get away with it and avoid accountability so they continue to do so. theres no reason she had to be brought up and mentioned for a shitty joke — the only reason it was *talia* was because they HAVE to be aware of the reputation they gave her and it was the essiest, most laziest writing chance they had to make a joke thatll just end up posted on twitter without context. theyre aware of the backlash and outcry but all press is good press and they know theres enough people in the comic fandom to defend them so they can avoid actually acknowledging why shes written this shittily in the first place (again, its from raciam and misogyny. literally thats it.)

in fact!!!! they didnt have to have a joke point blank. let the fucking moment sit or better yet — write an actual decent story that does anything. isnt that the point of creating something? to actually say and mean something instead of just filling the comic with shit thatll age badly in a month, much less be iconic for years to come.

they think theyre making a jokey comic that's a fun adventure but instead all they continue to do is make a joke of once beloved characters and reduce them as two dimensional flat mockeries of themselves. its to the point where the only things that are still so iconic about them is their own fucking names — which even that is dwindling rapidly due to their inability to write sincerity or anything meaningful. everything has to constantly end on a punchline or joke so it can be dismissed easier instead of having to take credibility for their shallow, halfassed characterization thats used to cater to their flat writing — which just gets ignored anyways in the favour of pretty art

That is actually the best pairing DC can make out of Trinity aside Lois and Clark. Or Bruce

and Clark for that matter. They both fit Bruce well, though Diana is even more matched with

him. In fact she's the best match romantically for him out there. At least so far. Though

number of fanfiction and arts on the net would suggest that that spot is reserved for

Superman not Wonder Woman :D

Except maybe for Silver and Julie - all Batman's love interest are abusive and downright

toxic. Selina, Talia, Adrea, Jet. Because in terms of comics and not relationships it fits

Gotham mold. People just tend to forget it after rebirth run. Yeah the one that made Batman

impotent and unable to do anything without the Cat around. Exactly that one. And tend to

forget how terrible as human beings his lovers really are.

Going back to the point. Both Talia and Selina tried to kill him multiple times in the past, or

those close to him. Whatever right? Who wouldn't like a lover that tried to end you few times

over. Both assaulted him physically and emotionally. Repeatedly. Both scared his body and

his mind. Repeatedly. Both tried to seduce his wards (adopted sons if u like), just to get to

him. In Talia's case that was basically pedophilia. That's just sick and makes you want to

puke. Both are possessive bitches, Cat threatening his flings while they are in bed while

Talia, well Talia can even go as far as beheading (to her credit she was right with this one).

Both makes him a goddamn hypocrite. Both face no repercussions after a cold blooded

murder while at the same time he berates Diana like a dick when she came to look for his

friendship and support after Max incident. Difference is she had no choice while Selina or

Talia most certainly had. Great move Bats, hypocrite much? And most importantly they both

lie and betray him, and leave him. Over and over again. Again, that's a constant with Cat

and miss Al Ghul. Diana never showed any of those traits with any of her lovers.

Get any counselor or psychiatrist to read actual Bat love history throughout the decades

and they would be writing books on how disfuncional they are. For a love-hate dynamics

they work fine. Or for some adrenaline fueled sex, but that's it. Hell, he even banged Dinah

when they were on adrenaline high. It all has a clinical term. Trauma bonding. As opposed

to authentic bonding. Which he could have with WW, had even one of them tried.

They did not though. Out of fear of ruining their mutual respect and deep bond. In

pre-flashpoint it may have been a thing if Diana acted on it. Again, Diana, not Bruce, so cut

the crap on how he was deflecting her. He was in doubt, yeah, but clearly was ready to give

it a go. She was the one that got scared even though she was clearly had over bat hills in

love with him. Even Martian stated this to Supes. Pre Crisis ? Not really. Some flirting and

kissing, nothing more. Post-flashpoint, New 52 and Rebirth ? Also not, though DC like to

tease those two. Forever Evil gets a hint that Bruce feels more than friendship towards her,

much to Selina's dismay. And that goddamn tension when they got to spends decades

together in another realm. Mostly from Diana side again. But no. The real canon love that Diana had for Bruce was during pre-flashpoint, not counting alternative universes. And it

was so strong that it showed her loving him more than her mother and sisters. And her

lasso forced her to admit it when facing Mera. But Bruce was "dead" at that point. So yeah,

never acted upon this. Pity. You could see she regretted it.

Aside their comics history in canon universe, realistically speaking Diana is way more

similar to Bruce than Selina will ever be (or Talia for that matter). Even though at a the first

glance they are nothing alike. She's the light , he's the darkness. She believes in love and

trust, tries to see the good in everyone. He's cunning, distrustful and downright realistic to

her idealistic approach. She's honest and straight while he will not hesitate to lie or to use

violence to get results. And you know what? It makes for great couple chemistry and

tension. It may be a cliche, yeah, but Yin and Yang dynamics work. That's why Clark ends

up with Lois all the freaking time. Even on elseworlds he and Diana are a thing only after

Lois is out of the picture. But that's not the most important thing. Yin and Yang provides for

a tension yes, but it would never last in the long run. For a relationship you need also

something in common. And Bruce has that in spades with Diana.

They might be on opposite side of the spectrum but than you realize how much alike they

really are. They are both kindred spirits. Both born fighters, warriors at heart. Arguably two

of the best in the world. At least Diana is according to Batman. And judging by Wonder

Woman's choices in man that is a highly important trait to her. Both endlessly fighting for

others. Both have utmost respect and admiration for each other. Both tirelessly train to

make themselves physically and spiritually better. Constantly. And to make the other better.

Their sparring sessions are legendary. And heated. Both with a great heart and

compassion. I would argue that Bruce's compassion is even bigger than Diana's. Even

though their methods might differ they share the same goal, which he has with no other

woman. Both have the heart of a warrior and are pushed by the circumstances of their

upbringing to reach for impossible dreams. They are also two of the most stubborn and

obstinate people in DC universe. Both perfectly capable of operating solo, and yet both

performing the best in a team. And yes, Bats is a great team player. Both natural leaders

that other heroes follow without hesitation. Both selfless and able to sacrifice for those they

value, trust and love. None of the other Bat trollups have any of those traits. Not to mention

they emotionally and physically find the other highly attractive. One being a literal goddess

and the other perfect male specimen. As for Batman, his relationships tend to collapse due

to a lack of trust. He's either unwilling to bring his romantic partner fully into his world or he

can't bring himself to trust completely. While Selina got his trust now, it's recent

development. And a mistake judging by latest issues. Again. One would think he's smarter.

When it comes to Diana, he trusts her. Fully. She's not privy like BatClan is to his world, but

they aren't that close in mainstream DC. She's not a psycho with daddy issues or a violent

narcissist. List can go on. Selina on the other hand doesn't have that much in common with

Bruce than she has. Not even close. He loves her, yes. But I don't see Di leaving him

countless times over the choices he makes. Or lying, or betraying, or trying to sleep with

Dick to spite him or... you get the point. Though there is one thing that gives Kyle an edge.

Immortality. Diana won't die unless killed. It doesn't make for a great long term relationship

prospect. But then again, those are comics, and he's a goddamn Batman. He would find a

way :)

The thing is - there is no other woman that fits his world as much as Diana does. And Bat is

capable to loving deeply and going to great commitments with a special woman. He showed

it with Andrea, he showed it with Silver. Problem is he always got burned. Every time he let

his guard down and opened himself. And he would have to do it when it comes to Wonder

Woman. She deserves that. It's hard to imagine with current Bruce, but it is most definitely

possible. It would be harder than with an ex criminal or an assassin though. Because there

would be much more on the line. The other two would crawl back anyway if he messed it

up, Di wouldn't.

There is also another aspect to this outside comic universe. His partners tend to be minor

characters compared to WW. She has her own series, JL, JL dark and every major

crossover/event happening in DC. They don't. And so does Batman. Both are one of the

most popular DC characters.

Besides changes to Bruce writing that are needed to make this work (cough.. pre flashpoint

Bats... cough), it would require fitting it to their distinctive titles. And frankly Diana can easily

function without any love interest and generate money. It's even easier that way. It fits her

The first few months were tough. Your mental health spiralled initially and it took the girls rallying around you to keep you afloat. Waking up became a chore, tasks as simple as brushing your teeth were hard, but not as hard as getting up to take a shower.

They let you stew in your sadness for a short while, knowing that nothing they could do would make things better in the short-term. They settled for keeping you company, eating in your room so you felt included, inviting you even though everyone knew you would turn them down.

Until you didn’t.

Slowly but surely, you started to come back out of your shell. You deep cleaned the spare room that Freya and Josh were still letting you bunker down in, brushed your hair out properly and showered for what could’ve been an hour. When Freya came in to ask if you wanted a coffee, she found you cross legged on the bed, scrolling through a job-searching site. “Hey”, she smiled, sitting next to you, “this is nice to see”. Freya looked over your shoulder at what you were doing. “I’m proud of you”, she said quietly.

Freya helped you sort through the job openings, ending up with you sending your CV off to at least 15 different companies that had positions that you were qualified for. “It’s not much, but it’s a start”, you shrugged.

“Y/N, two weeks ago you cried because the pizza man had the same colour hair as him, now you’re applying for jobs and looking at flats and thinking about your future. It’s massive”, Freya told you with a massive smile painted across her face.

“Do you think we could do something to celebrate?”, you asked. “Drinks or something. I’ve not seen any of you properly for so long and I want to be the one to offer the invitation for once”, you said lightly. Freya grinned, telling you that it was an amazing idea.

You grabbed your phone, creating a group chat to add the girls and the troops (minus Harry).

me: a night out soon? miss you guys x

Freya’s phone buzzed against the duvet cover and you heard Josh’s chime from somewhere in the flat. Replies started coming in almost straight away.

big josher: 100%

talia 🐠: yes yes yES!

nelly welly: will said can the eboys come

Plans were soon being made, with everybody agreeing almost instantly. A weight that had settled in your chest was alleviated almost instantly. An irrational fear that everyone would want you gone had clouded your judgement after what had happened with Harry.

Within the next week, you’d heard back form over half of the jobs you’d applied to, all of them wanting to see you as soon as possible for an interview. You’d also been given a few dates to view flats nearby, one was in the same building as Josh and Freya, another in the same building as Gee and Will and another in the same building as Ethan.

The girls, and a few of the guys, had offered to come with you to some of the viewings, offers which you took up without hesitation. After all, they had all gone flat hunting in London before, you hadn’t.

“Y/N”, Freya yelled from down the hall. You poked your head around the door, seeing Cal stood awkwardly by the door.

“You could’ve just texted me, I’d have come down. You didn’t have to come all the way up”, you told him, already making your way over to pull some shoes on.

“If I texted you, it’d have taken you at least 10 minutes to get down. Hurry up, we’re gonna be late”, Cal told you, poking at your side. You could hear Freya laughing from the kitchen at what Cal had told you.

As soon as you got back from viewing the flat, both Freya and Josh were hounding you about Cal. Okay, it was mainly Freya. You just sat in front of them, eating your pasta and trying to ignore what Freya was teasing you about.

“It’s okay, y’know”, Freya said, all of a sudden taking a serious tone. You raised your eyebrow at her in confusion. “It’s okay to like Cal, even after what happened”. You almost spat your food at her as you choked over her words.

“I don’t know what you mean”, you spluttered. You could already feel your cheeks turning a traitorous red.

“Even I can see it”, Josh chucked from beside Freya. “You deserve to be happy, though. Just make sure you do it on your own terms and in your own time”, he told you seriously.

That night, as you laid in bed, you opened your phone and pulled up the text thread between you and Cal.

me: i’ve put the deposit down on the flat from the today

cal: happy for u, have you told josh and freya

me: ofc probably gonna start moving my stuff as soon as i get the keys

me: shouldn’t take long lol i dont have much

cal: do you want help?

me: from you?

cal: no from harry

cal: ofc from me you spanner

cal: sorry, probably the wrong thing to say

Before you had chance to reply, a goofy picture of Cal was filling your screen and the shrill of your ringtone was filling the room. “Sorry”, Cal said instantly, regret written all over his face.

From the low light in his room, you could tell that he was in shirtless in bed, probably with only the bedside light on. He looked cozy, pillowed on a mountain of cushions and cocooned in a plush looking duvet.

“It’s fine”, you told him, rolling over to flick the lamp next to you bed on. “It- It still hurts, obviously, but it’s getting better, I guess?”, you admitted.

“I’m glad”, Cal murmured. “Glad you’re moving, too, and that you’re getting job interviews. You deserve to be happy”. You couldn’t help but smirk at the similarity to what Josh had said earlier on. “What?”, Cal asked you.

“Just something Josh said earlier, about deserving to be happy”, you said softly. Cal raised an eyebrow, indicating that you continue. “About moving on from what happened, finding someone else if I want to but only when I’m ready. That sorta spiel”, you told him as you rolled your eyes jokingly, hoping Cal wouldn’t look to close into what you were saying.

“And? Do you want to?”, Cal asked. You could tell that although his words were saying one thing, his tone was saying something completely different. Suggesting something completely different.

“I mean, I still need to make sure I’m somewhere good. It’s not fair to anyone that I start something I’m not ready for”, you said, trailing off slightly at the end.

“I sense a ‘but’“.

“Harry did some serious damage, Cal”, you whispered brokenly. “He was the first person I’ve ever truly loved. I don’t know if that will ever go away, the hurt. It’s like it’s burned into me. I can still see how angry he was when he blamed me and how angry he was when he saw you”, you muttered. Your eyes had glossed over slightly and your throat had tightened under the grip of your emotions.

“I know, angel. But the right person will help you with that, yeah? You just need to find someone who’s in it for the right reasons, with you for the long run”, Cal assured you.

“Thanks, Cal. Love you”, you whispered into the low light of your room.

“Love you, too, Y/N”.

Baking and Bonding

Pairing: Damian Wayne + Batmom!Reader

Word Count: 1900

Warnings: Nothing but sugary fluff here

Summary: Batmom spends a Saturday afternoon baking, and ends up bonding with Damian

A/N: Damian deserves all the love, so I just wanted to write a little thing for him. This is also my first time writing for him! :)

It was Saturday, and for once the manor was quiet in a good, peaceful way, rather than the dreadful silence that filled the empty rooms when Bruce and the boys were out on patrol. You'd decided to spend some of the day baking for no reason other than you hadn't in a while. Things had been hectic of late, but now everything was settled again, you'd decided it was a nice way to relax. 

Just as you finished pulling out the ingredients you needed, you heard quiet footsteps come padding down the hall. A few seconds later Damian appeared in the doorway of the kitchen. He paused, looked at you for a moment, then proceeded to make himself a sandwich. 

"Finished your homework?" 

"I completed it hours ago, Y/N. It was child's play."

Of course, it was. You let it drop, turning your attention to the task of measuring out your ingredients. You'd expected Damian to disappear again with his food, so it was a surprise when instead he took a seat on the other side of the kitchen island. 

"What are you doing?" He asked after a mouthful. 

"I'm baking some cupcakes for us."

"Why?"

You shrugged, "I find baking relaxing, and making something for people is a nice way to show you care."

Damian hummed and said nothing more as he finished his sandwich. He watched you still though, taking in every movement. It was another surprise that he remained even after he was done, but you weren't opposed to it. He'd slowly started to spend more time around you recently, something you greatly approved of. Even him sitting silently around you was a major improvement to how he'd been when he'd first come to live with you. 

"You aren't following a recipe?" 

"I am, I just know it by heart." It was clear Damian was interested, and you knew well enough that his mother would've never baked for him or with him. But if you asked him outright if he wanted to help, he'd bolt. "Do me a favor and set the oven at 350?" 

Damian moved immediately to do as you said and you smiled. Helping because you asked and not have to admit he really wanted to seemed to work. You gestured to the small box of cupcake cases and the tray next to it. "Put those into the tray for me too."

Damian did as instructed, and you finished whisking all the ingredients together. He hovered next to you as you began to add the mixture to the cases. You let him watch how you did the first half, then silently offered him the bowl to finish the second. He took it, and carefully started work. He moved slowly, taking his time to ensure each case had the exact amount you'd put in yours. 

With two left he slipped and more went into one of the cases than it should. His eyes widened, looking panicked for a moment. You grabbed a teaspoon, quickly spooning the excess into the last case, and he relaxed again. You hated seeing him like that as if he thought you'd be mad at the simplest of accidents. 

You put the tray in the oven and turned back to the empty bowl. There was still some mixture clinging to the side and on the whisk, you'd used. With your pinky, you swiped some up and popped it into your mouth. Damian was watching you, looking more than a little horrified.

"Try it," you coaxed, pushing the bowl towards him. 

Damian made a face, nose scrunching up. "There are several raw ingredients that can cause illness!" 

"Damian, I've been eating raw cake mix since I was younger than you, and not once have I ever gotten sick. Trust me, try a little?" 

He hesitated a moment longer, then copied your initial movement of swiping some onto his finger. His eyes went wide for a whole different reason this time, and you couldn't help but chuckle. You twisted the whisk off the machine and offered it to him. Damian accepted it immediately, and yeah, watching him lick it clean was definitely the cutest thing. 

By the time you were done finishing the remnants of the batter and actually washing the bowl and utensils, the cakes were done. 

"Smells good, yeah?" You moved the cupcakes to a wire rack to cool, not failing to notice the look in Damian's eyes as he sized them up. 

He nodded. "What do we do now?" 

"We make the icing while the cakes cool." Now that he was fully invested, you talked him through what you needed and how much. You could see him absorb everything he was told. Pulling out the bottles of food coloring you kept stashed away, you laid them in front of him." Want to pick what colors we use?" 

Damian thought a moment then picked out the red, green and yellow bottles. You smiled and put the rest away. You split the icing into three bowls and added the food coloring. He watched intently as you made up the piping bags. 

"Come here," you said, motioning for him to come and stand in front of the now cool cakes. Handing him one of the bags, you stood behind him, hands over his, and guided him in icing the first cake. You did a few more with him until the first color was gone, and he seemed to have the hang of it. You let him do the rest by himself, looking on at the intense concentration on his face, tongue poking out just a little as he threw all his attention into getting the icing just right. They were a little scruffy, but for his first time, they were pretty damned good. 

"You've got a knack for this!" You smiled, clearing away the dirty bowls. Damian smiled back, just slightly. He'd never admit it, but you spotted the pride. "Now for the final touches!" You pulled out some candy, a variety of little things you could put on top. "Half each?" 

You split the cupcakes, six each, and set about adding the pieces of candy as you liked, setting them onto a large plate once you were done. It wasn't how you'd planned to spend your baking afternoon. Having Damian around you, completely relaxed and happy for once made it a million times better. 

You finished your cakes but kept one to the side. "This one's for you," you said, sliding it over to him. He looked down at the red icing with the large 'D' written in chunks of candy. 

"Thank you," he spoke softly, then was suddenly presenting you with another cake. You hadn't even noticed him keep one back, but apparently, you'd had the same idea. The icing was yellow, one of the cakes you'd decorated together. On top was a large 'U'. "It's for 'Ummi'. Talia…disliked me using it, but it means mother." The words were so quiet you barely heard him, but you did, and you'd be lying to say you weren't nearly crying. 

Damian wasn't looking at you, so you reached out to coax his head up. "I think it's beautiful. Thank you."

There was that smile again, and you swore at that moment to wreak hell on anyone who ever hurt him. He'd been your son from the moment he'd stepped into the manor, despite the less than favorable things he said to you. You'd accepted that unlike the other boys, he might not ever reciprocate the notion. But this, now, it meant he did, and the only reason you didn't say how much you loved him was that it'd inevitably embarrass him. 

"Can we try them?" 

You almost didn't want to eat yours. A part of you wanted to keep it and preserve it forever, but Damian already had his in hand, and you didn't have the heart not to eat yours too, even if it was for a good reason. 

"Of course." You picked yours up and held it out, offering up a mock cheer as he 'clinked' his against yours. You peeled the wrapper off and took a bite. It was good. Really good. 

Damian actually moaned. Which answered the question of whether he liked it or not. "Can we keep these just for us?" He asked around his mouthful. 

You laughed. They had been for the family, but it was utterly impossible for you to say no to him at that moment. "They'll be our secret."

"Todd will scoff them all if he sees them."

"Then we won't let him see them." You took a container and set the rest of the cakes in it before putting it away in the small cupboard that was designated yours. Not even Bruce dared go in it without permission. "Just us."

Another smile. What you wouldn't give to see that as often as possible. "Thank you for allowing me to help you."

"You're welcome. We can do it more if you want."

"You would be amenable to that?" 

"Of course. I know a lot of recipes, or if there's anything you want, we can do that."

Damian nodded, quiet a moment. “There is one thing we could perhaps make one day. A honey cake. Mother baked it often, and…it’s one of my favorite things.”

“We can do that. Do you know the recipe she used?”

Damian nodded. “Yes, I’d help her when I could.”

“Great!” You beamed, “Write down the ingredients we need, and we can do it next weekend.”

“So soon?”

“Of course. I want you to be happy here, and if a honey cake makes you happy then I need no other reason.”

A moment passed and you saw a look of hesitation on Damian’s features. Then he was wrapping his arms around your shoulders, squeezing tightly. You didn’t even have to think about it. You wrapped your arms around the boy in return, hugging him back as tightly as he hugged you. This was a first, and you hoped it wouldn’t be a last. 

“Thank you,” he whispered into your neck. 

You squeezed him a little closer. “If it’d make you smile, I’d make you anything you wanted, every week until I was so grey and old it’d be a danger to let me in a kitchen.”

Damian pulled back, though his hands still rested on your shoulder. “Then it will be my turn to bake for you.”

“Yeah.” You reached up to smooth over and a wild chunk of hair that had gotten ruffled. “You’re a good boy, Damian, and no matter what you do I’ll always be proud of you.”

For a heartbeat, you thought he was going to cry, but then he was hugging you again. “I am glad to have you, Ummi.”

“And I, you, sweetheart.”

You didn’t say 'I love you’, but at that moment you didn’t need to. He knew. And for the first time, you knew he loved you back.

Purely on a personal recommendation note, for anyone looking for good reads and who tends to like my take on things, my recs from that list (and not saying that others I don’t rec aren’t good, just what immediately popped into my head) would be:

Batman: The Long Halloween (yes. its a good)

Batman: Birth of the Demon (if you want to set canon on fire, as many people are wont to do, a good place to start is aggressively ignoring Morrison’s take on Damian’s birth and origin and instead treating this story as his origin and just building off the idea that Talia lied at the end which is waaaaaaaaay better and just like...go from there)

Batman: The Killing Joke (kill it with the fire. we’ve had enough of the killing joke. it can die. even alan moore hates it and he wrote it and alan moore usually loves everything he writes and hates everyone ELSE for like, liking it the wrong way, so I mean, that should tell you a lot)

Batman: The Cult (holy shit I totally forgot about this story and now am off to go reread it again myself)

I have Issues with how ADITF AND A Lonely Place of Dying play out and most popular takes on them, so like, I’m not like, recommending RECOMMENDING them, but I mean like, they are pivotal.

Batman: Knightfall, Legacy, Cataclysm and all things No Man’s Land related have some good stuff throughout all of them. Like, things I don’t like, sure, but overall, there’s a lot of good material in them. Also, a good way to get a strong sense of actual canon Tim, who is not fanon Tim, and who would probably take one look at fanon Tim and go LOL nerd, and kickflip away on his skateboard to go tell Nightwing about this AU version of himself he just met, as like, he actually likes and respects Nightwing, among other differences.

JLA Tower of Babel (its a yawn from me, lads. the source of pretty much all “Batman can beat all of the JLA because he has the greatest superpower of all: PREP TIME!!!” hot takes and I mean, yeah that’s pretty core to Batman and who he is at this point, but the story itself its just like. Eh. Could you not. Idk. Basically I just mean this is all part of an era of JLA that for the most part I actually tend to LIKE Bruce’s interactions with the rest of the team, but then there was this and it was just like. Eh. Could you not).

Bruce Wayne: Murderer? and Bruce Wayne: Fugitive (Quality reads IMO that emphasize the Detective part of the Batfranchise and contain good moments for the whole currently present Batfam, lots of great Cass and Dick stuff in particular. Idk. I havent read them in awhile but I have fond memories)

Batman: Hush (this gets a bad rep and not entirely deserved IMO. Like, its not the greatest story in the world but I like how it portrays Bruce as having flawed dynamics with a lot of his loved ones but not shying away from his role in that but also without overly vilifying him....he’s an appropriately complex character in this, is what I mean, and I also like that this is another story that emphasizes the often lost-and-forgotten Detective part of his core concept. Also, it utilizes some of my fave villains in ways that bring home how much potential certain combinations/team-ups of villains could have if they were utilized more instead of overlooked in favor of ITS TIME FOR THE JOKER AGAIN WHEEEEEEEE!)

Batman: Under the Red Hood (hahahhahaha no. like could you imagine me reccing this? LOL its not realistic. Nah, stick with the animated movie retelling. At least Bruce doesn’t slit his son’s throat in that one to save the damn clown again)

Batman: R.I.P (I reluctantly rec this not because I like it, cuz I don’t, its Morrison back on his bullshit in a most I AM THE MOST GALAXY BRAINED OF ALL THE GALAXY BRAINED AND ALSO IM A CHAOS MAGICIAN DID U KNOW THAT HUH DID YA DID YA, like, fashion. Its. A lot. The story is A Lot. I don’t say that in a complimentary way. BUT I recommend it anyway out of pure stubbornness and Dick Grayson fanboy spite, as its set like, directly before Bruce is believed dead and gets lost in time, and like, A LOT happens to Dick in that story that SHOULD BE extremely relevant and crucial to examinations of his mental and emotional state at the time of him assuming Bruce’s role in the family and as Batman, but that just like....ISN’T, and that annoys me. Also, the primary villain of this, Dr. Hurt, like.....

his grand endgame involved torturing the fuck out of Dick to hurt Bruce specifically, and pretty much the first thing that happens when Bruce DOES come back from being lost in time is Dr. Hurt pops up out of nowhere and shoots Dick in the head, like FIRST THING, like this is the absolute first thing Bruce has to deal with when coming back, and this is just like....NONEXISTENT in most fics about that era. Because lolol how can we blame Dick for everything that went wrong and make Bruce be mad at him for how Dick wronged Tim and Jason and all of Gotham probably, if we’re going by actual canon and thus dealing with the fact that Bruce is preoccupied with hovering over his just-shot-in-the-head-specifically-to-fuck-with-Bruce son’s bedside and WORRYING about him. LOLOL hashtag Fandom Willfully Erases The Majority of Dick’s Canon Traumas Not Because They Want To Set Canon On Fire - they’re usually fine with sticking to every instance of canon in which Dick does something even in the ZIP CODE of wrong - but rather because if we acknowledge Dick’s traumas then eww, he might come across as....sympathetic? No, we can’t have that. ERGO HE WAS NEVER SHOT IN THE HEAD HAHAHAH WE FIXED IT, WE FIXED CANON).

But I digress.

Battle for the Cowl (another reluctant rec because like, its dumb and its bad, but its one of those things that I’d still rather more people read than didn’t, because like it is pivotal and relevant, and it contains key plot points like oh Idk, Arkham literally blowing up as all the currently locked up inmates escape, which led to Dick having Wayne Enterprises rebuild it himself, and like, the only villains present in it when he was Batman being the villains he and Damian CAUGHT while he was Batman, which did NOT include the Joker, and thus all the hot takes about how Dick locked up Jason two doors down from his murderer like the uncaring bastard that he is, like.....instead of the reality that Dick pulled strings to have Jason put in Arkham instead of Blackgate when the POLICE ARRIVED ON SCENE AND LOCKED UP THE ANONYMOUS RED HOOD BECAUSE HE WAS CLEARLY DEFEATED AND CLEARLY A WANTED CRIMINAL AND THUS LIKE, HIS IMPRISONMENT LITERALLY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH DICK OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT DICK DEFEATED JASON RATHER THAN LETTING HIM KILL HIM AND DAMIAN.....

like, its literal canon that Dick explains himself for having Jason put in Arkham instead of Blackgate because it allowed him to keep Jason OUT of gen pop where he had literal dozens of enemies that he, Jason, WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PUTTING THEM IN THERE HIMSELF, and it was to keep Jason SAFE, and it WORKED as Jason’s only actual canon complaint at that time was that he was BORED. So in conclusion, AS ALWAYS, you can do what you want, but when you literally manufacture the fake fanon - and completely fail to make any effort to establish that this is NOT actual canon and that you’re not actually riffing off of an actual canon moment - that Dick callously locked his brother up a few doors down from his own murderer (the dude that Dick himself literally once beat to death because he killed Jason).....like, inquiring minds would like to know, why are you trying so hard to make Dick look like THIS MUCH of an asshole, hmm?)

Batman: The Gates of Gotham (a weird, but fun little read IMO, that delves deep into the backstory of Gotham, the Waynes, and also Dick’s ancestors the Crownes, and establishes a lot of the history revolving around all of the above, and like, it actually has Dick as Batman and being competent and respected by the rest of the family in that role, and its also one of the only times Cass and Damian interacted one on one, stuff like that)

Batman and Robin Eternal (eww no, kill it also with the fire, burn it, I hate it, uggggggh why is this series so praised, its so baaaaaaaaaaaad, its like what if literally every character involved in it is an asshole to Dick for no valid reason whatsoever.....huh, weird thought, wonder if the fact that its so praised as being so good and Dick’s so hated for weird reasons by a lot of fandom are connected....almost like.....the fiction influenced how people viewed his character....and thus....critical commentary of how the fiction was bad is....relevant....HMM I MUST PONDER THIS STRANGE AND NOVEL THOUGHT).

Anyways...he’s of Pakistani heritage

His mother used to work for a printing press company until she along with 15 other employees were laid off back in Sargodha

She was out of work for months becoming a stay at home mom (which his father initially wanted) 

While his father continued in ironwork

They uprooted their family to the uk two years later after Rohan’s father also got laid off

Rohan was about 7 years old when they moved to Wolverhampton

he picked up on the English language faster than his parents

Always a quick learner

He has two younger brothers

Who are really his cousins/friends of the family that his parents brought home from Pakistan after their parents passed in a tragic accident

he was eleven years old when he met them at the airport and was super excited to have sibs! & even encouraged his mom to let him buy them something they would like sort of like a ice breaker which they seemed to appreciate 😭

His parents wanted him to major in software engineering or any form of engineering really but that quickly became a “hell no” vs “hell yeah” after those courses started to rot his brain?

So what does he do? He decides he’s gonna major in psychology instead!

That seems more of his speed? Kinda? As long as he’s not dealing with that hardware shit then that’s cool with him tbh

Psych held more of his interest since he doesn’t have a issue with the whole science aspect tied into it but it’s deff lengthy and can be draining sometimes too

jason stop dying

ooooook i just watched ditf. it was PRETTY GOOD.... i only wish there was MOOORE! watching this REALLY brought me back to 2011 times to see it and i think they did a good job with most of the character design and animations insofar as matching it to the original. (maybe i’m totally wrong but i thought it looked good for the most part... also i just really love these character designs in particular). obviously the budget is not what it would be on a feature, so there are a LOT of places where animation gets recycled and many still frames. some parts are basically a slideshow lol. but i only sort of came to that realization awhile after watching, so i think they did a fairly good job of masking this... ymmv

so let’s get into it!!! 

SPOILERS a-head! do not read until you’ve watched it because i’ll spoil everything

now obviously the thing to be aware of if you are not is the fact that this adaptation is not a panel-by-panel adaptation of the original death in the family comic. all references to jason’s mother (save one mention of her dying of illness) are completely removed, they go to bosnia instead of africa, and the circumstances around jason leaving are also heavily altered to fit the new narrative. this adaptation does slot perfectly into the universe established by the under the red hood animated movie from 2011 though, without which one would be pretty confused when watching this. it’s kind of a mystery as to why they didn’t just package this with utrh and release the entire thing as a collectors edition. instead they package it with like 4 or 5 unrelated dc showcase shorts which makes absolutely 0 sense but go off i guess. anyway

i liked that they took the time to adapt the scene from the original ditf where bruce is talking to alfred about jason! (i do not like that alfred didn’t get any lines. bad choice). tbh i can’t understand why they bothered showing us alfred, barbara and dick if they weren’t gonna give them any lines..... like come on........??

HOW INTENSE BRUCE LOOKS WHEN HE FINDS JASON IN SARAJEVO and just. grabs him lol. hes smad :)

ok so one two skip a few and we get to the first branch. instead of calling 1-900 we now get to choose whether jason lives or dies. there are 7 possible endings i think i got em all so let’s see what we got here.

“Hush” Route - Robin cheats death

hgrgdggr. i definitely think this is one of the more interesting endings, if not the most interesting one. this is also the only ending in which both bruce and jason survive the bombing. bruce is still too late, but this time jason barely clings to life and survives. as a hurt/comfort fan i was 100% on this shit from the word go but then jason? runs away from home lmao lmao i thought that was SO funny because 1) hes super messed up, how is he able to just literally run out the house that is SO funny to me and 2) implying that bruce would ever not be keeping an eye on him after that is just, lmao. it’s so zany. i call this the “hush” route because of the bandages but there are no other references to hush so ok. that’s fair. so anyway jason is now angsty for loosely explained reasons but the most fun part is yet to come.

when talia showed up, i really thought / was terrified for a second that they were gonna bring up certain “events” regarding damian’s parentage / who damian’s father is but then she mentioned bruce and i was like OH THANK GOD WE CAN STILL GO TO HEAVEN. i am so so grateful to the writers for NOT going there. cuz it was damn close ok. im not sure what the implication of this route is in terms of talia, jason and damian being a family unit but i want to believe talia sees jason as a son and damian’s brother (which is how she refers to him, damian’s brother) and not... yknow. i mean. jason raising a baby is kind of like a baby raising a baby...

no actually the reality of this scene is really dfuckin interesting like. they actually go with the “birth of the demon” (forget if it was birth of the demon or bride of the demon. one of those.) explanation for damian and that is something i’ve NEVER seen adapted so whoever wrote this can have a cookie and i kNOW this is something a certain someone will appreciate :)

not only that but the implications? are interesting? so talia’s claim is she miscarried so bruce won’t have to “choose” between damian and jason and idk if she’s supposed to be all on the-up-and-up in this universe but. i’m sitting here like GIRL YOU DON’T GOTTA DO THIS HE HAS A PRIVATE JET HAVEN’T YOU HEARD OF SHARED CUSTODY and BETTER YET HE HAS A MANSION JUST GO ON MAURY AND GET THIS SORTED OUT RIGHT NOWwwww

i’m also LAUGHING at the implications of jason thinking theres anywhere on earth that he’s going to go and hide damian’s existence from bruce. because you already know he’s just going to be tearing the planet apart looking for jason so this is actually hilarious. imagine he finds jason in one piece and also a baby. his baby. he’d be like (@ talia) “OMG WHY WOULD YOU THINK I WOULDN’T WANT THEM BOTH u are tearing me apart talia......” BUT THEN HE WOULD BE SO FREAKING HAPPY BECAUSE HE HAS TWO ALIVE SONS AND HE THOUGHT THEY WERE BOTH DEAD / (lost to crime)!!!

please lord imagine all of jason’s angst probably just originating from the fact that he has a brain injury that hasn’t fully healed and the trauma of going through all those surgeries probably gave him a lot of fear / paranoia about bruce and associating him with the joker because his neural pathways are all messed up but after he leaves he starts slowly healing back and regaining some of his lost sanity and thats when he realizes he misses bruce so much... but hes also raising his child... and every day it gets more difficult for him not to just take damian and bring him home and i ;v;

anyway i thought this route, while it had a few inconsistencies in it, was really freaking interesting and it gave me feels and plot bunnies and is probably the one i want to write about the MOST despite the fact that baby damian looks like a character from one of those web flash games in this lol

“True” End - Jason Dies

now if you select that jason dies the route basically defaults to the canon of under the red hood and the fact that utrh does not come packaged with this movie is a rather mystifying choice to me as i don’t think this adaptation would stand on its own very well. like you need quite a bit of background to really get anything out of watching this on its own, which is probably why it’s classified as a “short” and not as its own movie.

instead of showing all of utrh, it seems they took the opportunity to give a ~30 minute recap of utrh with basically entirely reused animation but they allow bruce to sort of. give his dvd commentary over it.

the biggest feeling i have on this is that it’s sad that they had to waste 30 minutes like this that could’ve been used to do something new and much more interesting, but honestly i’m not mad. it seems kind of obvious that this choice was probably made for budget and/or runtime reasons because a short does not get the same budget set aside as a full length feature film does. so they basically took the option of recycling 30 minutes of animation from the movie and dubbing new audio over it.

in evangelion they ran out of budget and that’s why the last two episodes consist of nothing more than still pencil drawings and frames while the characters engage in philosophical debates concerning the nature of reality and human connection. and i really enjoyed that. and for the same reasons, i also really enjoyed this.

i enjoyed seeing the clark kent of this universe. i enjoyed that he was basically out on a date with bruce. i enjoyed that bruce was willing to open up for once and tell clark all of what happened with jason. but what really makes this segment shine bright are bruce greenwood’s line reads. there are SO MANY good line reads in here. and i LOVED how many times he said the word “son”. very wholesome. the way he describes how he felt during the final fight with jason? probs my favorite FUCKING part.

and then him and clark joking together about contingency plans and then they’re going to work together to find jason and i ;_; this is probably the closest thing to a “good” ending but as a continuation of utrh i thought it worked really well. i really want to believe that bruce and clark did find jason in this route and that there was some closure in the end even though we didn’t get to see it.

including clark in this was DEFINITELY the right move as well, considering that he played a rather large role in the original ditf so it’s a welcome nod.

The rest of the branches exist under a separate option where Bruce makes it in time to save Jason from the warehouse... but Bruce dies......... :O

let me tell you bout it... bruce’s fucking DEATH SCENE i don’t know WHAT my man bruce greenwood is on, but the freaking LINE READS in this dialogue had me making INHUMAN NOISES. LIKE NOT ONLY WAS THE DIALOGUE GOOD, NOT ONLY DID HE SAY “I LOVE YOU, SON”, but this man is just an amazing actor. not just voice actor, but actor. he really really really really gave it the most i don’t know how else to say it....... it was very very well done and punched me sideways in the heart and i haven’t recovered and i’m not going to recover. and

ok so once we get past that.... scene.... u have to choose whether you’re going to catch the joker or kill the joker. bruce asks jason to promise not to kill the joker but technically jason doesn’t promise so........

Let’s start by choosing to kill the Joker. Jason attends Bruce’s funeral and various members of the Justice League show up to talk with him and just generally hang out. He has Alfred, Dick and Barbara as his support system, but Jason has some other plans.

This leads to a scene in a cafe where Jason meets with a man who... something something Killing Joke, flashlight, more Barbara being used as a plot device when she deserves better, Jason kills the Joker with a butter knife.

Once you do this you can choose to surrender to the police, or retaliate and escape.

Jailbird Ending

basically if you surrender to the police jason ends up in prison where he can actually attack even more criminals so.... ya

If you retaliate and escape instead you go to the Red Robin route where Jason becomes a vigilante who kills people much like the Red Hood and you get a further choice in a fight with Two Face where you can control how Harvey’s coin lands. 

Tim Ending!

If you choose the coin to land clean face up, the thing rewards you by having Tim show up and I forgot what happened (wasn’t really paying attention lol) because i was so focused on TIM!

Prolly they felt sorry for him what with Jason stealing what is essentially his outfit (ok I know it was Jason’s first, but Tim made it cool) so they let a little baby tim have an appearance :) he’s very smol

I guess in this ending Jason gets reintegrated with the family somehow and Tim becomes “Bat-kid” which is hilarious to me but you know what it’s cute. CUTE.

The one ending where the coin lands scarred side up

i honestly forget what happens if you choose to have the coin land scarred side up but let me just say this is a FUCKED route to take, not only have you had jason survive and bruce die, you’ve now chosen to kill the joker against bruce’s dying wish, you’ve chosen to attack the police, and at the end of that you really are gonna choose harvey’s coin to be scarred face up???? choosing this made me feel like a DICK because here i am supporting jason’s whole fall to madness and villainy thing the way it wants me to and now he’s gonna die HERE? i hate it here.

interestingly enough he doesn’t actually die in this route. he ends up at home with barbara and dick while dealing with the fact that he killed the joker but the route ends with jason saying “i promise” so i guess this is supposed to be kinda sad. im so confused lol ok

So that is all the options if you choose to kill the joker, I believe. You can also make the choice to just catch him instead of killing him but amazingly enough, those routes are even more FUCKED up. 

If you do this option Jason goes home, mourns Bruce with Dick, Barbara and Alfred, and becomes Red Hood BUT with a twist, he’s entirely on a bloodless operation in line with Bruce’s wishes. OR.... IS HE?

Things then follow the events of UTRH until the scene on the bridge with the van and the guys. Jason finally confronts Joker, who reveals the truth. 

Apparently in this route Jason has actually been killing and decapitating his victims just like in the original movie, but he’s repressed it so as to not even realize to himself that he’s doing it.

that is FUCKED. also. i wanna cry because jason doing all of that stuff but not even realizing it ;------; jason blocking it out, because he wanted to honor bruce’s wishes for him not to kill anyone ;______; but he’s doing it anyway ;_____; he’s actually hearing voices telling him to kill ;____; like it’s a very cheap twist in a sense and also really quite cruel but.... damn, son.

There is a branch here where you can choose to spare or kill the Joker at this point (UNDERTALE???) but from what I can tell it seems to be totally meaningless what choice you pick because you end up at the exact same point either way, I think there’s a small variation in what happens after you make the choice but after that they just coalesce back together into the following two endings. Which seems incredibly cheap to me, I mean making a choice like that should alter Jason’s path completely but, it doesn’t! So... ooook....

Either way Jason ends up on the Wayne building and Talia shows up with a re-animated Bruce from the pit. Here’s another fun blast from the 2011 past with more gratuitous Grant Morrison dreck, remember that shit? Well, they’re gonna jam it down your throat here, too.

The reanimated Bruce is the Zur En Arrh Bruce and he’s already dead so this is all meaningless but basically Jason fights him and you get to choose whether everybody lives or dies.

Zur En Arrh - Everyone Lives!

if you pick this, jason actually gets the re-animated bruce back to the batcave and they lock him up down there because he’s still pit-mad and the prognosis is not great. but i’m not sure what they expected, he is the zur-en-arrh guy so I don’t think he’s getting better. 

Zur En Arrh - Everyone Dies!

pretty much there’s an explosion and all three of them die and that’s it

I think that should be all the possible endings there are.

By the way the different ways in which black mask dies in this was actually a fairly clever running gag lollll. let that mf burn we don’t need no water.

overall there are a couple of things i would have done to SIGNIFICANTLY improve this adaptation beyond some of the obvious ones.

- the fact that all of the branching options are branched exclusively under the “jason lives and bruce dies” branch is a huge wasted opportunity. imo this is the most egregious problem with this, i was really looking for a more balanced tree / explanation of different things. i am probably super biased though being a fic writer and used to fic, we’re the ones making huge ass trees every day lol.

- the fact that there is no “good” ending here is something i kind of expected but given the context of this is lackluster. i sort of get it though because granted, the original ditf ends in an unresolved manner but it’s distinctly unsatisfying here. i secretly wanted an ending where bruce, like, figures out about the different endings and hacks reality to try to find a good ending where jason lives and everything is fine lmao. like a bat mite ending.

- i was disappointed in a sense that the narrative given in here is so basically simplistic? maybe i’ve been spoiled by games like 999 and undertale where shit gets messy and that’s not what this is supposed to be but when i play something with multiple endings in this day and age, at least play with the concept a little bit and connect some of the branches together narratively. use different devices. i was also hoping some of the choices would be a little bit meatier like you could choose to “forgive bruce” or something cool like that lol. but it looks like the majority of choices have to do with who lives or dies. and i felt like they couldve been a bit more creative with that ya know? being able to control harvey’s coin was a GREAT example of having some more fun with this.

- it is a huge missed opportunity not to have a “secret ending” on something like this. like where. the fuck. is my secret ending for completing everything. come on. and in a similar vein there should’ve been at least something in terms of bruce and jason interacting in a “true ending”. even if very brief. the closest thing to an ending this has is the “jason died” route and then the ending where he’s talking to clark which i feel like was a REALLY nice good optimistic ending as far as this goes, but it comes off as kind of disappointing i guess

there were SO many interesting nuggets locked into this thing though. i can’t deny it bugs me how many wasted opportunities there were with how they chose to structure things but i guess it’s the best you can do with limited runtime. i thought it was really well done though, makes an interesting companion piece to the original utrh, and is definitely something that i will be re-watching again soon!! overall i give it a 7/10 and some parts an 8/10+!

Bruce is at this circus that night and he looks at Alfred and Alfred looks back like don't u dare don't u--goddamnit u dumbass ugh. fine. i guess we're gonna have a kid in the manor again. damn. all right fine. Loves books and school, kicks ass, and then Oh No the Joker takes him, tortures him, and then Jason dies from beating injuries and a warehouse explosion. Holy shit. BUT NEVER FEAR!!!! He wakes up in his coffin months later!!! Cass aka Cassandra aka not-so-secretly the one Bruce is prone to playing favorites with lol: Cass. My Love. She was deprived of speech and physical contact as a kid, baby of assassins, and her dad raised her. Totally abused and tortured her as part of assassin training, like "two for flinching" but with bullets and such. Rip. She doesn't like that, wants love, also has INSANE skills to like rival Batman's own. Bruce takes one look at this kid and is like. Oh hell. Oh no. This has gotta be fixed. Welcome to my new daughter, Alfred get a room ready, this one deserves love, and so she operates semi-independently as Black Bat and for a short stint as Batgirl, and kicks ass, and Bruce brings her into a Real Family, she's able to learn speech and stuff but still deals with brain trauma structurally from all the delays and neglect, she's AMAZING and cool and everyone loves Cass. Can read body language better than, like, anyone, would likely beat Batman 1v1 no joke. Quiet, reserved, absolute cinnamon roll, loves bonding and love. Cares A Lot. Will Take Down Armies If Necessary. V dear to Bruce's heart. Her mom like, killed her once, too, it's a long story, whatever, turned out fine in the end and she's free of the bad guys and living her best life that she can with what she's got (also, her dad made her assassinate a business man as a kid, she was like. i don't have language yet but holy shit. i'm feeling things that don't line up with this. this feels bad and wrong. no. and she ran away at like? AGE 8 OR SMTHN and wasn't seen again for years until she rescues commissioner gordon and is like sup batman and he's like you're gonna be my new kid now you're so cool. i love my murder children)

Tim, aka Little Stalker Timmy, aka sleep deprived little genius, aka “All My Friends Are Dead” in person form, aka absentee parent poster child, holy neglect batman: Ok ok so after Jason dies Bruce is like slipping hardcore. He's angry. He's grieving. He's self destructing in an alarming spiral, and it's up to like Baby Teenager tim drake to save him!!!!! According to tim, anyway. Tim is a genius. Tim is a rich kid who lives next door to Bruce. Tim was in the audience too when Dick's parents died, and this little hooligan is obsessed with Batman and Robin, and sees Dick to a quad flip and is like holy moly me oh my the only one who can do that is Dick Grayson HE'S ROBIN BRUCE IS BATMAN OH GOLLY and this little dumbass spends years as a kid (possibly) tailing Batman and Robin through Gotham taking photos at night and (absolutely) learning forensics and martial arts and stuff. What a STUPID little genius.

Anyway, he's like okay Robin 2 is dead bc Jason died. that explains why Robin vanished and Batman is off his rocker. Clearly, I have to fix this, bc I talked with Dick and he isn't gonna be Robin again and Batman Needs A Robin. So he ROLLS INTO THE BATCAVE, and is like "so bruce--hi, i'm tim, stop screaming, it's fine--batman, whatever, you need a robin. and i'm it." and bruce is like fuck. what the Fuck. who is this shrimp of a small human how does he know me the last thing i need is ANY CHILD what. and he's like "no, tiny child," and tim is like "cute, but I wasn't asking" and bullies his way into the most grueling training saga Bruce ever put anyone through. Kid just doesn't quit. Anyway, Batman finally accepts him as Robin, blah blah blah trauma blah blah mother dies blah blah father is murdered, whoops, and what do you know, Tim--DOESN'T get adopted?? nope. he makes up a fake uncle, pays a man off to pretend, lives by himself in the city, stuff happens, bruce is like you're a dumbass, tim is like yeah u right, BAM tim is a wayne!!!! Welcome home buddy Alfred and Bruce missed you!!! super good and close with Cass, they lived together for a while. Anyway. Tim loses like half the people he loves, then Bruce "dies", except tim is like HE AIN'T DEAD and no one believes him and Dick takes Robin away from him and gives it to lil D, and Tim goes on this crazzzy round the world quest to save Bruce, and is forced to work with Ras, who is freakishly interested in Tim and also hundreds of years old and undead and in charge of the League full of assassins, and Tim loses his spleen, and gets beat up a lot, blah blah blah eventually he gets Bruce back, also gets nearly murdered by both Jason and Damian at least once or twice, but now things are pretty ok. Has been large part of Teen Titans and Young Justice during periods of his life. Acts as CEO of Wayne Enterprises while Bruce is gone, is awesome, gets fake shot in the spine to throw journalists off his scent. Kid is a mini-bruce in terms of strategy, amazing. Literally always sleep deprived, running on coffee, Actual Disaster Child, so smart but so dumb. Takes up Red Robin mantle and comes into his own. you know that "all my friends are dead" book? that's Tim! but like, in the cool relatable teenager way? where everyone's dead but you have cool hoodies and are always tired and like snarking at bad guys every 2 seconds.

and then we have DAMIAN, Biological Baby, Heir to the Throne of Gondor or whatever, the one true Wayne by blood, who is the Demon Murder Child who is getting better, bless him: Damian is the child of Bruce and Talia, long story short, heir to both the al Ghul empire of assassins and all that jazz AND the Wayne line. Bruce didn't know about him for YEARS while his mother had him constantly training (read: EXTREMELY abusive training, poor Damian) to be a great assassin leader to rival or surpass even Batman. Kid got grown in an artificial womb bc Ras and Talia were like Bat Wayne. Bruce man. HE is the optimal genetic combo with Talia to carry on the al Ghul line and tradition. Yes. Anyway, pre-teen Damian gets dropped with Bruce (long story short) who is like what. the FUCK. I have a KID?! and Damian is like YOU'RE ALL FUCKIN PRETENDERS AND DON'T DESERVE TO BE IN MY FATHER'S PRESENCE, ESPECIALLY YOU, DRAKE, WHO IS ROBIN RN, STAB STAB. Poor Tim. Anyway, Damian is a KICKASS fighter, and has been rehabbed to a great extent by his family so far. Very arrogant and stuff still, and still talks much more formally than most people, but he's more of a kid now, and has compassion and empathy in his own way, plays video games sometimes now, and oh my GOSH this kid LOVES ANIMALS. Like he's slowly assembling a zoo at wayne manor and Bruce is like how do we keep getting all these pets. Damian I gave you a dog and Damian's like we are WELL past that and the whole family is now bonded with Batcow so she can't leave now. and bruce is like you know what this isn't even the weirdest thing I've dealt with this week, whatever honestly. Just take care of them properly. Damian is an artist, and he's bonding with little bitty superboy Jon, and learning to be a part of a new generation of Teen Titans some of the time. Also he's an incredible fighter. GREAT. And he's like super bonded with Dick, he loves Dick more than anyone besides Bruce, and he and Tim constantly fight but it's an improvement from actual murder attempts, so Tim will take it. Damian is growing and everyone is helping the murder child, like, learn to be a human child instead of a weapon. And he's probably gonna be a vigilante vet when he grows up, i bet.

Hey-o! I have to ask, because Tim Drake is my favorite BatKid, and you've got good taste! Do you have any fic-recs for Tim-centered happy times? Or just like, his fam appreciating him and taking care of him (because u KNOW they do). (btw I'M IN LOVE WITH YOFA HOLY SHIT IT'S GOOD!)

I DO have recs. I have been reading SO MUCH. Getting into a new(ish) fandom and gobbling up all the hurt/comfort for my favorite character is such a joy in my life. I have sometimes forgotten to give comments to these because I was moving on to the next fic so quickly, and also some of them I read on my phone, but every single one deserves very long, very enthusiastic comments.

First off, just go read anything by Shirokokuro. I have enjoyed every single one of their fics. Also everything I’ve read by girlgeekjf has been delightful.

I have bookmarked some of the stand-out fics I’ve read. When I’ve remembered  to. Again, I have been gobbling these up very fast. I should probably resurrect @maychorianrecs and start using it for Batfam fics, because I have read a lot of them that are very very good. Not all of these are completely Tim-centric, but most of them are.

After Jason finds out, he tracks him down to visit. It’s all going pretty well until Ra’s al Ghul gets involved.My Comments: I avoid a lot of fics that deal with the AU where Tim is tortured and brainwashed by the Joker into becoming Joker Junior. Something about the idea of Tim losing his mind makes me really uncomfortable, so much so that I can’t really enjoy stories with that concept. But I really liked this one, mostly for how fiercely protective Jason is. Fair warning, though, this is a dark fic. The first few chapters, especially. But the recovery is absolutely stellar.

But once the idea occurs to him, it’s hard to think about anything else.My Comments: Absolutely breathtaking. The family AU of all AUs. Literally. Run, don’t walk.

Bringing My Brother Home - Alternate Bat Family Universe by Beathas Word Count: 135,642Author’s Summary: In this Alternate Universe, the Bat Family is put through the trials of helping their family members through the tragedies, abuses, and dangers they run, all the while protecting their city. Whether saving Jason from the madness of the Lazarus Pit, Tim from the abuse of his parents, Stephanie from the danger of her dad, or Damian from the indoctrination of Talia, the Bat Family refuses to give up on each other. They refuse to let each other go.My Comments: Fair warning, the writing style on this takes a little getting used to. I suspect the author is ESL. But once you get used to it, the story just sweeps you away. The series has a very nuanced and realistic depiction of abuse and its effects, without being over-the-top or cheesy. And the author clearly loves Tim just…a lot. So much. I greatly prefer this to canon.

Words fail me on this one. Just read it. And don’t skip ANYTHING.

It’s found family with a family that’s already found. It’s Bruce getting to know his children, all of them, and showing them with an open heart how much he cares about them, whether he knows them or not. Very, very happy-making fic. 

The Longer You Stay by emiv Word Count:64,316Author’s Summary: Bruce Wayne was never meant to be part of Selina’s clean slate. Then again, neither were a circus boy, a street rat or a rich kid. For a girl who didn’t like strings, Selina found herself getting attached.My Comments:  Absolutely stellar found-family fic in the Nolanverse. The romance is understated, and all of the feels are about family and adopting kids who need a family, and adults who need a family too. It’s wonderful and perfect. Tiny Tim is heartbreakingly adorable.

This is actually a tough question.  I’d say the longest I’ve been in a fandom has been since 2013 in Tekken and a little longer in the Sonic the Hedgehog fandoms.

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)?

It’s gotta be from tv shows, books, and movies to a certain extent.  TV shows are pretty much right there and aren’t really sourced anywhere else like they’re gonna be put into a book you know?  But if it’s under a circumstance like books getting adapted into movies, then you gotta stick with the text most of the time because a lot of movies usually stray away from the source from the book and turn into something completely different.

SUE ME.  She’s such a BEAUTIFUL character!  She’s literally the daughter of an OG character and she just wants to join the military to keep Earthrealm safe and keep her dad safe.  Not only is she a fun, witty character, she looks like me.  I love her because she looks like me.  And on top of that, she actually has a great best friend and has a canon non-white love interest!  HE LITERALLY CALLED HER BEAUTIFUL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLE WHEN SHE THOUGHT HE WAS GONNA GO BLIND AFTER ACID WAS SPAT IN HIS FACE!  I’m super protective over her because of the blatant racism and misogynoir she faces from the fandom.  I’ve seen people make her super OOC in fanfics just so that they can ship Takeda with Cassie, Jin, or somebody else and just state that she’s asexual just because.  Now, Jacqui being asexual isn’t a problem.  The problem was that people straight up labeled her as that all because she’s black and isn’t supposed to have a love interest because “she don’t need no man”.  And even though I have my crack ship with her and Erron, people are gonna have to pry my Jakeda from my cold, dead hands.

Aveline de Grandpré from Assassin’s Creed: Again I FELL IN LOVE WITH HER.  She’s such an underrated assassin despite being the first black female assassin ever!  I love how her story actually fits with who she is as a character.  I just wish that her game was longer because even though her entire plot is good, you can still feel some holes there and it would’ve been much more powerful if more things were added into her story.  Plus, have you seen a lady beat the shit outta muggers and colonizers and slave owners in an 18th century dress???  And looking good in it???  Like Jacqui, she’s been treated poorly by the fans and the developers and people keep dis-crediting her because her game wasn’t on a huge main console.  Plus she makes more sense as an assassin because of her disguises.  What’s the use of being secretive if donning your assassin robes every time you go to out to kill somebody?  Part of being secretive is blending in with the crowd and that’s the one thing that Aveline does with her outfits.  I just love her and want more to be done with her.  I’m trying to do more with my fanfics and fanarts despite my progress but I gotta start somewhere!  And you should hear her OST.  IT’S FUCKING FIRE.

Aqua from Kingdom Hearts: I looooove this girl!  She’s super cute and actually fun to play with!  She, along with Terra and Ven truly deserve better.  After she lost Terra and Ven in their own ways, homegirl was left in the darkness for about eleven years.  I’ll never forgive Mickey’s bitch ass for leaving her there and forgetting about her.  Aqua bent over backwards to try to save her friends and her home from Master Xehanort and had to fight off illusions of happiness in the realm of darkness.  I still haven’t finished KH3 yet, but I know that she reunites with Terra and they all have a happy ending.  It’s what Aqua deserves after being manipulated by Master Xehanort and having to lose Master Eraqus, Terra, and Ven.  These three were one of the three trios that technically didn’t get a happy ending and the villain won.  So I’m all for Aqua getting the happiness she deserves.  I really wanna cosplay her but I need to find blue hair that I’ll actually wear on a daily basis and not just for cosplaying for one day.  I’d wear a wig but my scalp doesn’t agree with any wigs that I wear.

before i knew any better i just thought jayroy was taken as gospel, and now its like U Dumb Bitch. rhato sucks, n52 is an insult, and jayroy doesnt even make any sense. roy is like 10 years older and his brother’s best friend. why would roy be even SLIGHTLY aligned w someone who straight up shoots people in the face. fandom is stupid.

more just underrated characters? like garth, and roy, and maggie, and saf. like these characters all deserve so much more love and attention but everyones like hyperfocused on jason or whatever. other characters exist.

tbh no its more the other way around. like i guess the closest i’d come is people dunk on B&R and all those criticisms are valid, i hate the talia arc too, but as a whole i really like it. and i know its gospel to hate n52 and boy howdy do i, but i enjoyed grayson. sue me. he was fun and i liked it.

This is one of the best salons in downtown Atlanta. Tess is can slay your wig perfectly with at least 2 to 3 weeks wear before maintenance. I found my forever stylist! I went here last week for the first time. She colored my hair and put in extensions for me, and I can honestly say I have never in my life been happier with my hair. I was so happy when she finished I got tears in my eyes! Selfish me wants to keep her a secret, but she is the sweetest, kindest, and most talented stylist I have ever met! This place don't have high ratings but it had the highest on Google so I decided to come anyway. By the reviews I read that the owner is a guy so when I called the guy answered and I asked about walk-in and he asked what did I want to get done and I told him I had a messed up hairstyle and I need it fixed and he told me to come in and they'll see what they can do. I got there and I met the owner and Jasmine hooked me up. No complaints at all. I am very satisfied with Jasmine's work! I got a full head sew in here. I also watched Jasmine do a silk press on another customer and she's really great at what she does! I will be coming back to get my closure tightened up in 3 weeks!
