me, after clearing my schedule to write:
uhhhh it was raining... and dark (and also night) and um... cold i guess?? anyway, something dramatic~ happened
me, stuck in traffic on my way to work:
Rain tumbled through midnight leaves, casting the forest in liquid moonlight. A low growl shook the horizon. Death had come.

Character Inspiration
Thanks for the tag @toribookworm22^^
Soft tags: @rubywrite @olivescales3 @lexiklecksi @missaddledmiss @mariahwritesstuff @sam-glade and an open tag.
Also, this is going to be a longer post since I haven't been posting much in general recently. I also prety much enjoyed doing this tag. So I thought about making another part with another set of characters in the future.
Rules: Pick a character(s) from your wip(s) and tell who they were inspired by or from.
Ulfrika Výtaušeimová - her sort of harsh personality is basically mine with slightly more (read: A LOT more) salt. Her physical design, though, is mostly inspired by an illustration of a revenant I saw in one of the book with legends about folk creatures I own. When I tried to draw her for the first time, though, I didn't know what sort of a reference pose I should pick. So I used my own reflection I took a photo of. So I guess that some of my features also exist within this character.
Márgerdra Výtaušeimová - she has a few inspirations, like Helga Sinclair from Atlantis the Lost Empire (I liked that mysterious femme fatale aura), young Anita Ekberg as I she had the facia features closest to those I could think about when it came to Márgerdra. Some of her abilities and skills are based on the creatures from Slavic folklore. Like the inspiration about Márgerdra's hair storing some of her power and life essence is tied to the folk stories about 'rusalky' (a type of a water fairy or a nymph which appear in many stories here) and 'víly' (basically forest fairies or maybe even dryads (???) which look human but have magical abilities and can be mischievous, malicious or just minding their own business).
Master Kogar Výtaušeima - his personality doesn't have an exact inspiration, I just imagined what the most chill and cool dad would be and went with it. Cold-hearted asshole on the outside, a huggable teddy bear around his kids. His physical design, though, relates a lot to Karl Urban since the guy looks both young and old (this sounds weirder when sai outloud but whatever).
Miss Yawen and Golden Wind Viper - even in physical form these twins might have a few snake-like features since they actually are snake demons.
Ereanth - although he may not appear that much in my wips, I took the inspiration for his name (and partially for his appearence, too) from Eredin from the Witcher books. Although, his personality is much different. Though, I didn't take much inspiration from around when I was coming up with his behaviour and so on. It sort of came naturally because I wanted some contrast. Oh, and maybe there's a slight hint of Tom Hiddleston since the guy has quite an interesting facial structure.
Faust/Gemini/the Twin - the strange sentient structure in Ulfrika's chest has a few inspirations one of which is the tale of Dr Faust and Mephistopheles and the tale of Pan Twardowski. Ironically, Ulfrika was nicknamed by a few nobles as Mephisto or Pale Devil despite the fact that she fulfills the role of Dr Faust much more. On the other hand, Ulfrika did use the surname Twardowska while living abroad for a while as a cover. The inspiration for the design comes from the game Blasphemous since I found the character of Nacimiento one of the most intriguing and tragic ones.Another inspiration for the character comes from Edward Mordrake (the Two-faced Man as he might be better known).

@jgmartin had a post (here) about their book...and uh...yeah...got my self a copy!
Tumblr media
Great book with amazing stories, however, I made the stupid mistake of reading them before bed, on a weekend that I was in the house alone. I had to sleep with the lights on.

Steph's Crew - Character Aesthetics
Here is a Pinboard for "Stephaniecore":
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you think this suits Stephanie's character? I think it kind of does... they're all kind of dark (and almost always set at night, which adds a layer of mystery to them), but strikingly beautiful. Much like Steph!
I'll probably do this for the others as well.
Let's make this a tag game!
Rules: Search for the name of one of your OCs on Pinterest, and add "core" to it. Pick 9 of the first pictures you see and make a board. Then state whether or not the overall aesthetic fits your character!

Writeblr Positivity Tag
i was tagged by @sam-glade (their post here!) way back in May, and i decided to get around to it today :)
Tagging: @annachronisms @vicwriting @everthewip @gay4utica @meerawrites @louisermaeve and whoever else who wants to join in!! (you can even @ me so i can see your post :D)
just as sam glade did, i'll put the blank format under the cut!
...
1. What motivates you to write?
The idea that someone out there will thoroughly enjoy the things in my brain. On my lowest days, I try to think about my future readers. Sometimes, I'll even think about my future critics. I think it'll be an honour for people to take my stories seriously enough to point out what's wrong with them.
2. A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them)
I died when I became immortal, after all. Which can be found here, in my (still-growing, currently absolutely tiny) collection of one-shots!
3. Which OC makes you smile every time you think/talk about them and what are they like?
@canadjester's character, Q. I have an altar of him in my closet, actually. I am definitely normal about him. He's dumb and blond, both of which I am apparently into.
4. What process of writing do you enjoy the most?
Developing characters and fleshing out their relationships with each other.
5. What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)
I'm very, very good at eliciting strong negative emotions, particularly sadness, hopelessness, and panic.
6. What is something in the writeblr community is most enjoyable?
Everyone is so supportive of and interactive with each other!!!!! We all feel like one absolutely ginormous family.
7. A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech to text, a writing program etc)
Would say nothing. I'm working on using Obsidian for planning, but for now I'm sticking to Google Docs.
8. A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc)
The history in End With One (Never Zero) has been particularly enjoyable so far.
9. What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch?
If you think what you've written is shitty, leave it for three weeks (or even several months). Once you've come back to it, it'll be much better than you thought, I assure you. On the off-chance that it's just as bad, then in your time away, you'd've gathered enough experience and rest to be able to detect the errors in your writing—and now you can fix it :)
10. Tag some people whose works you love/have been your biggest supporters.
@canadjester (besttiieeeeeeeeee <33333333333333 im going to kill you) @sleepyowlwrites (never letting go of that song bro omg T^T) @macabremoons (girl your enthusiasm over the sage one shot sent me to the MOON awguhairugieurgeurguerihg) @jgmartin (ABSOLUTELY adore your works :3) and @ashen-crest (fell in love with A Rival Most Vial literally 3 seconds after i got the book LOL). some honourable mentions: @moremysteriesthantragedies @digital-chance and @savvy-minnow for the ABSURD and WONDERFUL number of times ive seen yall pop up in my notifs LMAOOOOOOOOOO

Themes and Tropes Tag
Thanks so much to @palebdot for the tag! You can find his original post here!
Yes! Another excuse to talk about my writings. Let's go!
RULES: look back on your work, both past and present, finished and unfinished. what are five to ten narrative elements or tropes that continuously pop up in your work?
The concept of time: questioning it, how it can be manipulated, how we all experience it differently, and how strange it is when we consciously think about it. I like playing with it as a narrative device and as an instrument of psychological horror. And of course, I'm a sucker for a time travel story.
Outsiders: more often than not, my characters don't fit into their setting or there's a sense of detachment from themselves and/or the world around them. Whether that's not fitting in at a school, a town, a culture, or a mindset my MCs tend to feel removed from it one way or another.
Hauntings: whether it be ghosts or something in their past. Something gnaws at the character and it troubles them throughout the course of the narrative.
The power of friendship: as cheesy as it is, the importance of having someone having your back, being your ride or die no matter what happens, is a consistent thing in my stories. Solid platonic relationships need to get more love!
Blended Families/Found Families: I like writing about stories where people from different walks of life come together to make lives together. I kinda think of this as a corollary to the power of friendship but I thought it deserved its own spot.
Questioning the nature of reality: what's real and what is the character making up. I love dancing on that line. If you can't tell, I'm really big on psychological horror. Or I can switch it up and make it an absurdist comedy. Why not both?
The Supernatural: it sneaks into most of my stories one way or another. A vampire at your local grocer, family ghosts in your attic, aliens walking into your local gas station for a fill-up til the next space station--whether it's real or not is beside the point. I love it.
Low-pressure tagging: @words-after-midnight, @vintagecivet, @axl-ul, @phynewrites, @eldritch-flower, @callahanscorner, @tabswrites, @macabremoons, @jgmartin and anyone else who would like to participate!

Hi there! Its Week 1 of the Sunday Writeblr Ask-A-Thon! I'm Athena, my question for you is: What's writing to you? What does it mean to you, what inspires you, who inspires you?
(it is still Saturday for me but I do not care!)
Writing is a passion to me, something for me to let my creativity (and stress) free. If it happens to be HS journalism, writing stories here or poems. It is a passion I will love to the end of time as it allows me to explore the inner and deeper thoughts of myself to create people that I will adore and let others adore.
A few people here inspire me to get better, I will not ping all like... hold up
Tumblr media
I am only doing those I can remember off the top of my head. Sorry if you weren't listed.
The lovely queen @stesierra
@wipsbymor and @macabremoons (including you two together felt right, I love reading about your characters and I would go on but my brain refuses to think when I talk about you too because it just has too much to say)
@vite-poh (not a writeblr but that one fan/friend that goes crazy over any piece of writing you make. No matter how bad you think it is. We can all use a person like Vite, our own personal cheerleader.)
@fictionalbullshitter (founds familiar)
@save-the-villainous-cat ( I don't think I read so much hero x villain before)
@immortaladrien (My poor heart can't take all the tragedy)
@elbritch-kit and @jgmartin (love reading your horror!)
I think that is everyone I can list from my fried brain currently.

WIP List game
Thanks to @cypriathus for tagging me!
Honestly, my WIP list is a little too long so if I put all of them, I'd be putting my entire follower list and run out before I'm even a little bit done 🗿. Though I always wanna talk about my stories, but I get in my head saying "no one cares" so if I get an ask it'll make me feel less like that :)
RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
I'll just put the ones I'm currently working on:
Kingdom of Bumalia
The Demonic Repentance
The Makings of a Love Story
Tales That Were Lived
Dark Moon
The Moon, Rabbit, and Wolf
Secrets of a Teenage Man
A Fourth Dimension Reality
Same Breeds (temp title)
One of Malevolence
I have all my stories occupying space in my brain at all times so ask away~
As usual, with my tags, there's no need to participate, no pressure. Just do it if you want and have fun 🍂

Last Sentence Tag
Thank you @pb-dot for the tag!
This is the last actual line that I wrote that isn't just a bunch of detailed outlines. This is also one of the very last lines of Masterpiece in general.
“Don’t worry, husband. I don’t mind helping you at all.”
Rules state I must tag one person per word. I'm not really good at doing stuff like that but I will try!
@doublegoblin @veetvoojagigthemagnificent @gummybugg @winterandwords @jgmartin @afusiek @desastreus @olive-riggzey @taveren-writing @tea-and-mercury - No pressure, just for fun!

Thumbprint tag
Jumping on an open tag by @aziz-reads because this sounds super fun!
No pressure tagging @touloserlautrec, @toribookworm22, @hallwriteblr, @jgmartin, @late-to-the-fandom + open tag
RULES: look back on your work, both past and present, finished and unfinished. what are five to ten narrative elements or tropes that continuously pop up in your work?
1. Trope/expectation subversion.
2. Melodramatic or theatrical elements in some form. Typically, these will be woven throughout and not always at the forefront. This one applies more to my longer works than short pieces.
3. Crime-related themes (murder, violence, legal stuff, corruption, terrorism, etc.) tend to crop up in pretty much all my work, even my work that doesn't fall under the crime fiction umbrella.
4. Lots and lots of introspection.
5. Unreliable narrators. I write lots of psychological fiction, so pretty much an expected genre staple. Pretty much all my first-person narrators are unreliable in some way.
6. Explorations of trauma, and atypical or less common responses to trauma.
7. Dead parents.
8. In my long-form works, character death. Not always major characters, but I've never had a full cast survive a novel.
9. Elements of psychological horror, even when the story isn't genre horror.
10. Enemies/rivals to [insert here].

Writers of Tumblr, what is the snippet of your WIP you're most proud of?
Reblog this post with said WIP, and tag another writer to join this thread too! @jgmartin @jay-avian @inflarescent
Words leaked through Cragger's lips; waves after waves of uncontrollable anger rose high until they hit the ground. I never expected anything like that to happen. His grunts start to fade away, as my mind boils with intrusive thoughts; dead… what could this mean? Why was there a possibility of Cragger being dead, why would that even happen? What would I be without him, how would I live without his audacity distracting me from rigorous royal rules… How would his parents react to their sweet child dissolving into the air— A scaly touch squeezes both of my shoulders; in the blink of an eye, my entire body is shaken viciously. The constant brute movement mixed with the intense emotions make me dizzy. I'm unable to react properly; everything seems fuzzy, my head feels light, my body starts numbing.  "Silly lion, when will you stop freezing like a cub and come back to reality? Toughen up a little bit!" he cackles in a sudden change of mood.
Snippet of the Forgotten Legends of Chima, part 5!

Character Intro: Kogar Výtaušeima
Aliases:
Man with No Eyes, Majster/Majstre, Master Embalmer, Embalmer
Quote:
“An Embalmer should be the healer of the sick and the hunter of the damned.“
Physical traits:
Height: 190 cm (6 ft 2.8 in)
Weight: 85 kg (187 lbs)
Build: lean, quite muscular
Hair: dark brown, chin-length, later cut short
Eyes: dark brown
Skin: pale with ashen undertone, dry
Unusual traits: has a scar running across the forehead and by the width of his left cheek, a part of his left ear is missing with the rest being severely disfigured
Personality:
Those few who remember the Embalmer, describe him as a stoic with only a couple of words on his lip. Yet he carried out his actions as swiftly as he was able to swish his sword through the air. Cold and intelligent, he never let anything to cloud his judgement. Although, some say he was more than foolish when he decided to keep a creature he named as his only disciple and successor in the craft of the embalming. Admittedly, some of his procedures could be viewed from eccentric to drastic. Yet everyone should bear in mind the Embalmer swore to protect the sanctity of a soul. There is a rumour that the two girls from his care lived up to the adulthood and viewed the bat demon/vampire as not only their guardian (and a master for the older one), but even as their 'father' as well, though they did not relate to him by a single drop of blood. This only claims another rumour that his old heart was able to fully beat around his only children.
Personal life and relationships:
Master Kogar was known as a man of few words yet many actions what showed when he took under his roof three little children, two of them being wolf demons. Sources claim that his relationship was warmest with the oldest and the youngest one as the middle child often decided to misbehave and occassionally throw some blame onto the oldest child. However, the Embalmer did his best to find his way even to this girl and bring her up.
Other than the three foter children, most probably belonging to the tribe of the Wendic demons (with the exception of the oldest child who hasn't been confirmed as neither a demon or a human), he kept in touch with other embalmers from his order. Which isn't much surprising as bat demons are known to separate themselves from other demon tribes, but never from their own clan.
Although Master Kogar did use the name Výtaušeima as his family name, he was never born to such a clan. Rather, it is a surname he chose to carry as his predecesor was named Výtaušeima. Killing his former master upon learning he had been involved with the cultists of the Repentent Ones, he kept onto the name in hopes to cleanse it one day for he believed in his master's innocence unitl the day of his death. The surname was also passed onto his foster children whom he had taught to never forget but always forgive.
He carried out his duty as an embalmer to his last breath when he was impaled by villagers from the neighbouring demonic settlement deep in the forest within the region of Carpathian Mountains (the most probable location for the place of the incident is suspectedd to be held in the region of Low Tatras, however no certain claim has been made so far). Left to succumb to his wounds, the only witness to this horryfying scene, apart from the demons who carried out the execution and later died in an inexplicable incident, was his successor, Ulfrika Výtaušeimová, the Master Embalmer of many names but only one face she covered with the mask of her deceased master.
Role:
A minor character in Empire of Dust (mostly mentioned)

Summer Reading/Writing Tag ☀️
I was tagged by @i-can-even-burn-salad, thanks!
Describe one creative WIP project you’re planning to work on over the summer.
Dropping this blurb for a yet untitled WIP that I've talked about a little elsewhere:
Kharis Dor is a Vessel: a foundling lifted out of the poorhouse to serve the Empire as a tool for the royal family’s magic. That magic is written on Vessels’ skin and channeled through their bodies, with consequences in proportion to the power of the spell: bruises, lacerations, broken bones, or in rare cases, worse. Kharis has always believed that Vessels’ sacrifices were noble ones. But when Kharis becomes the attendant of the Nightfall Prince—and sees firsthand the dark side of the royal family—his conception of the Empire begins to unravel.
Edict Carusso is the Nightfall Prince; the youngest and most disposable of the Emperor’s seven heirs, with the deadliest responsibilities. He must wield the Empire’s most powerful spells; the ones that take the lives of the people used to cast them. Since he was a child, Edict has served the Empire by executing criminals sentenced to act as Vessels for this fatal magic. Shunned and feared even by his own family, he never thought he could shrug the weight of a corrupt kingdom from his shoulders. But the tentative relationship he’s forming with his new attendant might restore enough of his humanity to help him escape his fate… or it might doom them both.
Recommend a book.
It's always going to be the Imperial Radch trilogy by Ann Leckie. Be gay an undetermined gender and sexuality, do crime, kill god.
Recommend a fic.
No Reservations: Narnia is an incredibly pure mashup of Anthony Bourdain and Narnia.
Recommend music.
"Storm" by Otyken absolutely slaps.
Share one piece of advice!
I'm the wrong person to ask LOL but uuuuuuuh water your garden deeply once a week instead of a little bit every day, it will encourage better root growth!
Not sure who's already been tagged but I'll tag @jamiedeadwrites, @tabswrites, and @jgmartin

Last Line Tag
@palebdot got me, so I will do this thing.
Following suit, here is the ending of Weald and Wen, which is currently in the hands of beta readers.
As for who to tag, I'm tossing invites to @jgmartin and @starbuds-and-rosedust
Ending under the cut
The Nothing swallows Faerai, not with teeth or throat but careful tendrils, pulling her with itself...into the Darklands. Ozma howls and flails, unable to untangle its memories from the mass of agony and Faerai’s blood ices as the shadowy horror shares its desires.
Desires they have held since their first sip of pain within the burning bright of the Shell. Not for destruction, nor to watch this broken world burn. No, these are too simple, beneath them. The quivering mass that has become the Nothing hungers for pain, pure and screaming. They have sharpened their teeth on blood and meat and swelled their shadows with the howling terror of Mar's children for pain. Deepest, dearest, darkest pain...and it has been sweet. Sweet but fleeting and they lust for more. Agonies greater than any other. Agony they can use her to taste, as one who has touched the meals they truly crave…
The pain they ache and moan to sup, hot and dripping from the throats of the Lady’s Children.
