Review of one of my favorite books 🇯🇵

跡を消す means "Erase the Traces"

But what do they mean by traces? It basically means, erase the existence of what the deceased left behind.. especially if the landlord or the police found out about the dead body weeks or months later... Usually that happens when the dead person dies alone.. with no family or friends around.. they only get divorced when the smell becomes so hard to bear.. the smell of a dead body left to rot makes the whole building stinks and there will be so many worms and naturally.. the waste and the liquids of the dead body.. so that's what they do.. they cleans the houses of the deceaseds and erase their traces.. like these traces weren't here from the very beginning..

I never expected this book to hurt so much yet touch my heart in so many places.

You can see how cruel the world is..the families who don't give a shit about the dead person.. the angry landlords.. and many many more.

And because I don't want to spoil you, I will stop here so you could discover the rest of the book on your own.

This is my first time reading a book by this author and definitely won't be my last time. I absolutely love her writing style and it makes you feel like you are part of the story and feeling every emotion the protagonists feels..

She is also a nurse which isn't surprising because you could tell by reading this book that she has so much knowledge. A Lot of medical information was explained in a really easy way.

Something about bsd abilities and trauma and also literature as escapism to face reality better. Something about Atsushi's fantasy being all about strength and self healing and a rampaging "beast beneath the moonlight" when reality forces him to rely on others to heal and emphasizes his empathy and "weakness." Something about Dazai's escapist fantasy and character trope as something "no longer human" when he actually is very much human. Something about Yosano's fantasy being a world where "thou shalt not die" when reality keeps making her face death. Something about Kunikida's desires to be a "lone poet" against the world with just him and his ideals realised when reality is full of people he can't abandon. Or Kenji escaping into a world where he is "undefeated by the rain" and putting his entire soul into living that dream out. Or Akutagawa being (philosophically) consumed by his "rashoumon" when reality shows he doesn't always have to devour and overtake....

I've been here since 2014 but well, I never got around to actually introducing myself, I guess? Here I go.

My name is Helen (They/Them).

24 year old Queer INFP Capricorn in Myanmar.

What am I learning? Well, a lot of things but mostly languages, literature, and psychology.

I am a native Burmese speaker but I also speak other languages! English (C2), Korean (TOPIK 6) Mandarin Chinese (HSK5) and Japanese (JLPT N3) respectively. I try to keep my certifications up to date but covid made it really difficult.

I'm working towards a Diploma in Pali.

I am also learning Spanish, Russian, Latin, ASL etc and absolutely getting my ass kicked by them.

I'm a freelance translator, writer, tarot reader, astrologist, language study guide, language instructor and a bookseller by trade!

I don't do all of those at once. I just sort of... rotate them if that makes sense. 2 at a time, 3 at a time etc.

I am very hardworking but I also have neck arthritis (Cervical Spondylosis), ADHD and Social Anxiety so it's a struggle.

I also have tons of hobbies. I like reading books, writing reviews, journaling and writing fan fictions etc so I'm all over the place.

I have a lot of stray cats that I've adopted so you'll get to see them obstructing my studies as well!

My life's not very glamorous. I'm in Myanmar. With the wars going on, there ain't a lot to glamorize either. But I'm trying my best to hang on and also help others hang on. So you'll see me talking about free consultations and free lectures and humanitarian aid stuff etc.

I run a weekly book club called "HAIYUU" with my friend! HAIYUU stands for 俳友 which is Haiku friends and it's so fun!

I also run a paid telegram channel for tarot/oracle readings with my Haiyuu co-host as well as other friends

I'm taking it one day at a time.

13/100 days of productivity.

Today was pretty busy, as Mondays are wont to be. I finished all of the conferral with the school for the fundraiser my club will be holding this week, and now all we have to do is set up apple pay because teenagers.

Today’s productivity:

I FINISHED CATCH-22!!! I don't like the book overall, but it's moments of depth are pretty compelling. It basically ends with the MC on a horrifying acid trip, some real SCP stuff, before ending with some token power-of-friendship and all that jazz.

Finished composing script for AP Lit spoken word project,

Did AP Computer Science homework on parsing a .vtt file and extracting data from it.

Did AP Physics homework on integrating friction into our preexisting problems.

Self Care:

Still keeping at Vim keybinding practice, I'm getting pretty good at it.

My sister made quiche today, and that was a very good linner. (No, that wasn't a typo. If we can have brunch, why not?)

Future Goals:

Find out more information for US Government final project

Do US Government test corrections when the breakdowns are released

Begin assembling and studying Chapter 14 vocab for Japanese 4

with duolingo having changed their japanese course structure, a lot of the kanji i’ve learned is shown in hiragana now. so, i’m starting to collect a list of all of the important kanji and radicles that I know to help me review them a bit!

hopefully it’ll solidify some stroke-orders too
