I’ve been slowly working on making the eternal gales cast new refs and icons, here’s a dump of what I have done so far

#keese draws #eternal gales #oc art #oc #ocs #ignore the inconsistent quality in some of these there’s a lot of them and I only have had so much motivation to draw #I don’t plan on remaking busy and softie’s refs for the time being but everyone else is on the chopping block #I’m not gonna rush it tho this is just for my sake since my art style has changed so much recently #oh wait that’s right butter is also good I made them a new ref a while back I think #that just leaves 11 refs and like 12 or so icons. woo.#and that’s without counting side characters and god forbid I finally get around to designing the au antags #it’s been over five years and none of those bastards have ever gotten even my weak excuse for a reference rip #to be fair I have tried to design them several times it’s just annoying because of color palettes #I hate making color palettes. my most hated part of character design no competition #but yeah the staliens are the easy part it’s the human kids that are gonna make me wanna tear my hands off #it’s not physically hard to draw them but mentally it’s the worst agony #ok no fydd is physically hard to draw. I do not have the beak drawing experience I should have having drawn this kid for five years #like I figured out shoe and sock and they’re my Only snake characters #well ok it’s not like I have many beaked characters either but shhhh #bloom doesn’t rly Need a new ref as technically most of my art style changes don’t effect her design at all #but the anatomy in her current one bugs me so it’s getting remade anyways #I’ll probably do new sprinkles ref first then looser then alpha to finish off the staliens #and after that I should Really do aris first for the human cast she is in desperate need of a new ref #and after that I’ll do the snake triplets then mase and then whoever I feel like doing after that #those three are just in the most intense need after that it doesn’t matter much

i thought their canon designs were a eensy weensy bit Unpolished so i made these mostly for myself. erm if u rly want it i think varian is 19 here, hugo 19, nuru 18, yong 12.

i also made rhem all playlists and had to draw them a cover so thats what the last img is I linked each of em under my notes for all of em... Under the cut is Like a Huge Infodump of notes i have for each chara,,,,,,

i kept varians design basically the same, i dislike the design w the orange neck thing so i just Nuked it😭... Here's Varians playlist

Hugos design i just wanted to put him in something more Loose. hes a thief, a professional escape artist. i dont think wearing clunky metal is ideal for him. i also gave him a prosthetic arm (blond w no arm design trope!) but u cant see it in the ref so i added another drawing of him in his under layering👍 i vaguely referenced russian(?) clothes for him as well... Yeah not too much changed w him i just tried to make him slippery-er. Here's Hugo's playlist

yong came relatively easy to me, if it wasn't obvious i did rip gaming from g*nshin's hoodie. i thought the lion hood was Adorable and freaking perfect for what i had in mind for hos character. since the og notes said the fire kingdom is loosely Chinese inspired i basically just kept that. i mashed tgt a buncha diff dynasties though sorry for how inconsistent i was... i think he looks Okay. anyways i changed yongs role a bit, ill explain why im adjusting some of their roles later but i kept yong as the Jinx Type character. hes the eldest in his family and has a buncha younger siblings, hes a lion dancer and does performances w his family/siblings. he rly like special effects n keeps tryna incorporate his fireworks into their performances (it flops and he has to sew up the dmg) ill explain more of yongs role in another post maybe shrugs... miss nuru was a bit of a struggle for me i might share my full design process with her coz i did a Bunch of mockups for her😭😭😭... i didnt have a specific country of reference for her but i chose to make her vaguely south asian inspired. i also really wanted to keep the sheer fabric w the star / constellation map. i love that idea its so cute so shes still technically the navigator. but she also wields a sword too, fencing or whatever. (her and varian r Huge Cass fangirls which is probably why she started tryna use a sword (snuck out to watch cass compete) Okay ill talk abt this later) in my head, okay ill Probably make a whole nother post talking abt how im interpreting/writing each chara, but in my head i think nuru is the youngest and her kingdom's archivist. shes mostly in charge of like Her kingdoms history / artifacts / etc. ok im getting too side tracked ill save the lore dump for later but thats Nurus role in the party. uhm below i made their character stats mostly to help me with planning / role developing. the yellow is their base stats the color behind is their end stats i guess. i was gonna explain my reasoning for their stats but ermm this post is kinda Really long so sorry😭... varian max int for obvious reasons, also max charisma just coz i feel like u kinda learn a thing or two being around a couple manipulators and spending time in jail idk shrugs... (also lets not forget the "ud b surprised what ppl would do for a cookie!") Hugo slippery guy, if a brick is thrown at him as hes running hes gonna try n run faster to shatter it, his mindset is Run Run Run! i think hes relatively agile too but yeah mostly a Speedster. i think he n varian got no Physical strength varian maybe just like A little coz Farm boy but I rly doubt quirin is making him do a Lotta heavy lifting. yong has incredible stamina and agility because hed a performer. nuru is the strongest coz this team would literally Flop without a proper Offense😭... i think varian n hugo r able to outwit plenty of their opponents but i think nuru is pretty good in a fight, same w yong. Dazai:

Has bpd. A lot of his traits remind me of my friends with it

He some kind of trans. Nonbinary. Transfem. Transmasc. Idk he's megender lmao

He's described as appearing very youthful in the first two light novels. I imagine that once the events of the main timeline start picking up though, with all the time stopping or slowing abilities that *dont affect him*, he actually ages faster than the other characters. I draw current dazai with small wrinkles, which also hints at stress and stuff

Also, I imagine current dazai getting tanner as he works in the light, as well as getting more prominent freckles.

Round/doe eyes because that is part of his appearance in my opinion. Seeming unsuspecting and innocent, especially during his mafia days

Bad eyesight in his right eye from being under the bandages for so long. Saw this headcanon and loved it

I got the whole Snowdin movement bunch (all except for NMM!Clover back walk because my weakness for insignificant details has cursed me to have to try and learn some coding in order to make it exist in game should it ever get to that point)

Honestly the toughest part was getting the colors, a lot of these I just ripped straight from vanilla Clover

THANKFULLY I do not need to do this for the Dunes Caves or Steamworks as those seem to be a filter (which is actually what the Flowey Fight Clover is but shhhhhhhhhhh) that gets put on Clover and Martlet/Ceroba respectively (they do not appear on the massive Clover Chart so that's why I think they are filters) Don't know why it's just Snowdin that gets special sprites, maybe because then they'd have to put a filter everywhere in Snowdin which might get crowded and messed up in those rooms with shade? Idk, I wasn't on the dev team

Don't you just hate it when you notice some details you messed up when it's too late? On the side runs, some of Clover's freckles disappear for a few frames. Thankfully it's on the run animations, which are too fast for it to be a noticeable inconsistency (did you know that when Clover's head faces towards the screen for those two frames in their run animation, that you can actually see their other eye?

It's actually really hard to notice since both the eyes and outline are dark colors and also it's for only two frames while moving. It seems I'm not the only one who's a sucker for tiny and very likely insignificant details. The more you know. Also I brought this up as a whole "See? It won't be noticed. Probably." thing)

The typewriter clicking was inconsistent, Wednesday was usually able to pour out her thinking throughout the whole hour or more, but this was an off pattern, she constantly took pauses, ripping up pages she didn’t like, and the flow was all wrong. Enid caught on, obviously worried.

"Are you okay? Your typing is off balance, and it’s ticking me off."

"I’m fine." Frustration filled the goth’s tone.

The blonde scoffed. "Clearly not; you sound like you’re about to chuck a knife into someone."

"I just might."

"Come on Nes, talk to me!"

"Why should I?"

"Oh my gosh, I’ve never seen you this stubborn about something." Enid picked up Thing as well as herself to walk to the grumpy sack in a chair.

"Do you happen to know what Mr. Kovacs assigned today in class?" The raven asked

"The anatomy teacher? I don’t have him remember; wait a minute!" Enid started to get giddy. "You don’t know the assignment because you were having a little staring contest with your rival fencer! Ajax and Kent told me, "You guys couldn’t stop looking at each other!" She started to laugh.

Wednesday going to make those two into a belt and a village meal.

"She’s nothing but a distraction. Of course Fish sauce, and that Greek tragedy wouldn’t be paying attention."

"Plus, you know, Mr. Kovács doesn’t give periods the same work, you’re going to have to ask someone that was in your period. Or," the wolf’s smile bared her fangs. "You can ask your rival in staring contests and fencing."

That was the last thing she wanted to do, but she understood that might be the route she needed to take. "Enid, question. Do you know anything more about this little pesky insect?"

"Uhm, kinda! She’s usually at the school gym, but the furs gym, which is pretty impressive because we have heavier equipment, you remember Eugene’s theory, it’s a possibility it could be true because she has this huge tattoo on her back, the wolves said it was a big scorpion with the Roman numeral X, no idea what that means, but it looks pretty cool." Enid blabbered

Wednesday nodded. "Do you know where they’re from?"

"Actually, last year when I looked them up, nothing popped up, not a social media account, not even family accounts that match up, but what’s funny, that rich female billionaire has the same last name as them, they look nothing alike though, so I doubt they're related. What’s her name again? Something with an I? Anyway, nothing with the place of birth, not a birthday, zero, nada." Enid continued to annotate.

"How formidable. The rich billionaire is named Integra, my father envies her."

"Anyways," Enid added emphasis to the s. "I’m going to hang out with Yoko, Divina, and Bianca. You should come with, get your mind off Y/n for once."

"I’m alright; sadly, I need to find the creature. I desist from holding a zero in that horrid class."

"Well, you better hurry." The colorful girl turned to face the window, the crescent moon almost hovering in the middle of the world. "Almost curfew, If admin catches you you’re done for."

Wednesday roamed around the school, heading for the gym, hoping to find you there, but no luck. The next best thing was to find your dorm room. She found herself at the door of her beloved principal, opening the double doors like she owned the place.

"Why Wednesday, what are you doing here at such an hour?" Weems looked up from her laptop.

"Where’s Y/n L/n’s residence located?" The raven asked.

"I believe in the administration’s hall. Why do you ask?"

"Work purposes, a project for anatomy."

"Oh, the one that Mr. Kovács assigned? That is partner work. I heard you and Y/n dueled in your fencing class; I’m pleased you didn’t take it to heart and are now befriending them."

Wednesday grimaced, "This isn’t befriending; we merely conversed. I don’t think I can have another conversation with anyone in that class again, they just know what we’re doing but just so happened to distract me. I presume it was a part of their plan to become mutuals."

"You said similar things about Ms. Sinclair, look at you now, your eyes softening when she speaks." Weems smiled behind her coffee mug.

Wednesday rolled her eyes "I must be going now, thank you for the minute amount of help." And with that, Wednesday was off to your dorm room.

When she reached your door, there was a small whiteboard hanging on the door with the large words knock written on it. She complied with the request, hitting the door two times.

She heard a somewhat muffled voice from behind the door: "Come in!" It sounds like you

The girl opened the door and was immediately bombarded with new scents, sounds, sights, and feelings. It was almost overwhelming. Her nose was filled with blue lotus, You smelled like that a lot; it was very euphoric. The aroma forcefully calmed her down. The low sound of some artists played on a record she’s never heard of and didn’t want to know the room looked pretty neat and looked overcluttered, but everything had a place that made it look clean—lots of knick-knacks. An abundance of vinyls; special ones were placed on a wall-mounted shelf; they were signed; plants; and tanks for animals, but none of them looked like they had any animals for it just built like the perfect environment; you clearly weren’t sharing a dorm with anyone (lucky you); you had a variety of electronics, from a TV to a handheld device which was the newest model of the brand; lots of jewelry, almost all gold; large diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and others. Who paid for this? This stuff really fits you; oh yeah, that's what she came here for—you.

You were standing near a tank; almost half of it was filled with sand, and the top had a small plant to create a sort of shade. There was a tunnel system in the sand—some sort of bug? You looked around for something in it until you turned to your visitor.

"Oh hey Wednesday, how can I help you on this lovely night?"

It would be lovely if she wasn’t here. "I want to accept your offer." She spoke up

You flashed a smile "Oh really? "I'm surprised you came to me instead of the teacher."

How did you know that, Wednesday was still stuck in thought, and she looked you up and down. You wore a baggy tee just past your hips, and wrapped around said hips were black shorts stopping at your knees. She continued to look down at your legs. You had pretty strong legs, muscles were prominent even though you didn’t flex them at all. She kind of wanted to see what they looked like when flexed. What is she thinking? Your shins are almost covered by high socks. The goth met your eyes again.

"I would have been scolded if he found out, but are you going to join me or not?"

You would join her in anything—death, life—what in the world are you thinking? "You don’t even know what the project is about."

"Then what is it?"

"We have to pick a creature and gather its diet. Then give it to Mr. Kovy." You explained

"Okay, that seems simple enough, but are you going to join me or not?" She repeated

"Of course, madam." You grinned and jokingly bowed

This was going to be a long week.

APPEARANCE:

Ashi is a fairly petite girl with not too much of a build to her from the waist up. She has brunette hair which go down to her bust, and bangs that always sway to the right. Her bangs are split into three stands, a very small stand to her left which splits into three smaller bits, a middle strand that sways to the right, and one last strand to the right that frames her face and covers her ear. Ashi has a curved ahoge on the left of her head where her roots are. Her hair is slightly messy, bouncy and a little wavy.

Ashi does not wear any sort of makeup, and her eyes are pointed and fairly large. Her eyes are a chocolately brown with salmon highlights. She is almost always found with a smile on her face and pointed brows.

She’s always found adorning a pair of sunglasses on her head, no matter the weather.

When wearing her club/SEKAI wear, she wears the Colorful Splash! varsity jacket in a usual fashion, except that she lets the jacket fall off of her shoulders just a little. Under it, she wears a cropped white top with a pair of slightly baggy, dull blue ripped jeans.

PERSONALITY:

Ashi is known around school pretty well, to the point that she can definitely be considered popular around Kamiyama High. Many people know her (including the main cast), and she has no issues talking with whoever. She enjoys it as long as the person talks back.

Ashi is a natural performer, and her charisma is off the charts. She’s fairly loud, but not enough to gain weird stares. She makes sure that all glances at her are never the result of judgement.

Despite Ashi’s playful, positive, and at times childish behavior, Colorful Splash! notes her as a very strong leader, always bringing reason into discussions and giving solid advice. Via finds comfort in the way Ashi always reaches out and helps each member. She is often the one to lift everyone’s mood, and is known as the group’s cheerleader. Each member states that they wouldn’t know what the group would be like without Ashi.

Ashi is good at tending to others needs, and even if she does seem narcissistic and self centered at times, she does deeply care for her club mates. Though, even if she’s caring and allows the other members to be true to themselves, she doesn’t display any behavior of her own when it comes down to it. Several Kamiyama students view Ashi as a shallow person because of it.

Even as the leader, Ashi is easy to poke fun at and Colorful Splash! enjoys teasing her for her height and behaviors. Naoto in particular picks fights with Ashi. She always has a reason to fight back and banter with Naoto, but when she is met with no further evidence, she takes the loss.

TRIVIA/DYNAMICS:

A pretty crucial part of Ashi’s character is the fact that she’s strictly cisgender. Her sexuality is up in the air, but I would like to refrain from any headcanons or ideas about her gender being anything else for character’s sake.

Ashi’s character is a little hard to write sometimes, because she has different views and ideas before and after one of her focus events. You will often see her being referred to as “pre-ashi” or “post-ashi” depending on what stage of her development I want to talk about. This can lead to her character being seen as inconsistent, but there is still a basis you can follow for her character (her personality as stated above).

This focus event is often referred to as “Ashi cancelation event”, purely because I haven’t planned out the entirety of Colosplash’s story and events yet.

This development and change in character is due to a realization of the truth. Ashi’s character issue is that she’s so blinded by the goal of being a celebrity that she is unable to recognize what people truly think of her and her “true” self.

Pre-Ashi is unaware of any faults of her own, and always needs to find reason to verify feelings. She believes that everyone likes her as the celebrity of Kamiyama, and she doesn’t notice that she’s not necessarily close to anyone at Kamiyama. Pre-Ashi is not aware that she’s forcefully pushing down any negative feelings that come up to the surface.

Post-Ashi comes to life after a life realization, and this newborn Ashi now takes note that feelings don’t always need to have reason— they can just happen, and they are still valid. Not everyone is a perfect celebrity 24/7, and everyone has their faults. She realizes now that, performing for everyone and getting a simple like is not worth it when there are people beside you who will love you further than that. Additionally, she finds herself being more comfortable with the people she once distanced herself from, out of fear of what others would think.

Ashi formed Colorful Splash! in attempts for her to build a fan base and a group of people to enforce her celebrity status. In reality, she might’ve subconsciously made the group in hopes of finding true friends. Pre-Ashi is and was misguided about a good chunk of things, after all.

Ashi doesn’t like to associate herself with “weirdos” or “odd” people by habit. This issue slowly dissolves as Ashi gets more comfortable with herself.

Ashi is embarrassed to admit that she does indeed to go Wonderlands X Showtime shows and enjoy them a little too much for someone her age. No, you did not see her three days ago cheering on the show with the five year old sitting next to her.

Due to the reason stated above, Tsukasa does occasionally recognize her in the hallways and tries to get her attention. When this happens, she ignores his presence and hides behind the nearest person she knows. The person is often Akito, and they have a silent vow to run off together.

Note, that does not mean that she doesn’t like Tsukasa. In reality, she thinks that he’s very talented, even if she wouldn’t ever admit it.

Ashi is in class 1-A, meaning she shares a class with Mizuki and An.

Her and An are good friends, due to Ashi not being a troublemaker. They are often compared due to their similar energy.

Ashi rarely ever notices Mizuki when they do attend school. She’s only ever heard a name float around in conversation, but due to not picking up names quickly, it always slips her mind.

On one occasion during a festival, Ashi and Mizuki stumbled upon paths and ended up having a good conversation and kicking it off well— Ashi found herself wanting to talk to Mizuki more, despite not getting to ask for their name before they took off again. Whenever Ashi sees Mizuki on the rare occasion, she instantly tries to talk to them. The fact that Ashi doesn’t associate with weirdos does not apply here, simply because she doesn’t know Mizuki as the person who people gossip about around school.

Both her and Mizuki have issues regarding the way they are perceived. Ashi wants to be able to portray herself in a masculine way, and still identify as a girl, despite the teases and insults she gains from others at times.

Post-Ashi, after finding out Mizuki’s secret (and not making a big deal about it) tends to defend Mizuki when they come up in conversation with others.

Through Via, Ashi began going to Akito for tips on dance and singing. They often go to WEEKEND GARAGE to practice.

Both Ashi and Akito have themes of being “reborn”. In Ashi’s case, this is touched upon after her focus event where she has her realizations.

For Post-Ashi, Akito is an admirable figure and person to her due to his burning determination and drive. She likes to think of him as a rival, in a way.

Ashi is horrified by Rui. She can barely withstand a conversation with him while making eye contact.

Ashi is an artist, and draws in her free time. She designed the Colorful Splash! varsity jacket herself.

Ashi is fairly wealthy, and her often skipping school to go on vacations is mentioned in the story.

She hates the cold. Ashi can never decide on what to wear, and she falls it the “Winter-Fit Crisis”.

Summer and beaches are Ashi’s favorite as she loves the weather, noises, and everything else that comes out of it. She heavily enjoys any tropical motifs.

She has two older siblings, a mom, dad, and dog.

Ashi’s voice is imagined to hold the same energy as Soyeon from G-IDLE and Momo from TWICE. She has the most powerful voice out of Colorful Splash!

Ashi’s dance style is very unique as she often adds her own twist to things. She adds an extra step here and there that radiates a strong feeling of confidence, and it’s fun to watch her. Additionally, she’s very expressive. Her style is very easily recognizable.

She is very good at fanservice. Winks are very common with Ashi.

I'm going to sound like the old lady I RP as but...There is something I really love about Striker's design.

Its not his height, not his eyes, not his color, not his tail, or charming smile. It's his Duster Jacket and the uneven stitching. I laugh and grin every time I see it. Striker is his suave, swashbuckling, cold blooded cowboy for-hire- killer. He's brimming with pride and confidence. He has aires about him. Everything about his outfit looks intentional to carry that bad boy, modern cowboy look. That giant worn hat, fitting vest, his slim fit ripped denim pants, that color pop with his bandana and his slick knee high boots...

But then we have his duster jacket. Look at it. You have a beautifully tailored cropped jacket with a nice lapel, dark cuffs and brass buttons but the hem of his jacket, looks like he hand stitched the dark bottom piece on just so he could have the cowboy buck skin tassels! Look at that uneven stitching! / / | / X/ X X | / X He's got diagonal stitches, vertical stitches, and cross stitches going on! They aren't even! They definitely DO NOT look like ornamental stitching. Sure it's likely an animation thing its not a high detail, but the inconsistency of the stitches every time I see him on screen just makes me think: this cowboy nerd had an old duster with the buckskin tassels that he liked so much that he cut it off, and sat on the steps to one of his train cars, while waiting for his beans and bacon to cook, stitching the hem on by hand and pricking himself the entire time. Sure, sure you can argue that that's not the case because the inner lining doesn't have stitching inside, but I can't help it, its too fun of a detail. Sure he's got that old western feel, that poncho of his is probably hand made, but it does not have the uneven stitching of his crop top duster jacket and it brings me great joy. Cold blooded killer, musician, poor AF cowboy nerd.

Look at the stitching.

I'm such an old person for enjoying this stupid detail.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen (it's 6:30 pm) guess who's here to overnalayze episode 1 of season 4 of scissor seven that's right ME

Okay okay I think this might actually be my new favorite episode in the series and I love it so much and I was thinking about it last night and talking about it to my friend this morning and I have THINGS!! TO SAY!!! about it

First off: this isn't as important but did anyone else realize that Blackbird was wrong about Seven's ambushes?

Like when Seven initially jumps for Blackbird he grabs Seven's sword and says this but

he's instantly taken off guard five fucking seconds later? And like yeah, this was something Seven could do cause of the Thousand Demon Daggers, but by all means the fact Seven kept DIRECT eye contact with him and took him off guard to make him drop Thirteen makes it seem Seven does think and act faster than Blackbird does. In fact Blackbird fights Seven the exact same way he did Thirteen, he drags both of them out of the clearing and into the forest - though he throttled Seven around A LOT harder - but Seven didn't lose track of Blackbird the way Thirteen did.

Side by side look at how much longer it took Thirteen to get out of his grip and recover - I know Blackbird is arguably more in his element when he's fighting Thirteen but just their reaction times alone, Seven's able to keep up with Blackbird running around him and Thirteen is struggling to keep sight of him. Their main difference is Seven's got much better reaction time and is able to keep up, but he's horrible at actually avoiding getting hit most times. He's so much more aggressive in this fight but also takes twice the beating, Thirteen spends the first half of this fight getting her sides clipped by Blackbird's whip and Seven literally almost gets his whole shoulder ripped out. Seven seems to know what to do a lot quicker and thinks fast compared to Thirteen. Especially since Seven had the opportunity to and realized he could use the light against Blackbird.

And as he does, I mean initially Blackbird can't even react quick enough, given the distance between them it's surprising Seven got this far,

And he changes direction faster than Blackbird can even react to his initial movement!

Blackbird genuinely loses sight of Seven here! And it's not like he couldn't seen Seven, he was perfectly visible and neither of them were facing the sunlight here, but Seven is just faster than Blackbird can react here

And Seven had time to wait here! Of course Blackbird doesn't realize what Seven is doing and turns around, but if Seven had been going to hit Blackbird from behind he would've! Seven spends a solid second or so longer here before Blackbird actually turns around, and Seven is able to move fast enough to blind Blackbird!

SECONDLY and I've actually seen nobody talk about this but Blackbird has his own art style. Not just like, for his flashbacks. Blackbird has his own fucking art style for when he's in control of the fight. And it makes me so mentally ill

I think I've mentioned before early on Scissor Seven is a little inconsistent art style wise, but definitely by the end of season 3 you can really tell they've gotten comfortable with and have settled on a style they like and work well with. And it's absolutely beautiful, which is why I was really confused when this scene was in the trailer:

because this is so clearly not their normal art style. To be specific- the line art is really intentionally sketchy and messy, you can evne tell they used a different brush than they normally do for coloring and line art, and the coloring and shading really has a 'colored sketch' look about it. And it's not bad, I love it! But it's so obviously different from the normal style and in the trailers I was wondering if the style was going to change again, but this is the only time it happens. And I realized why: this is an art style specifically for when Blackbird is in control. Let's go through this fight from this frame:

the moment Thirteen is dropped. So I'm going to go through this by the most important moves or actions they take:

So obviously Blackbird has a real solid grip on Seven here, but also noticeably I feel like Seven doesn't try to do anything with his sword as he's dragged,

But notice despite how far or close they are, every frame is noticeably clear and really just true to the art style this show takes:

but also this sketchy texture and style is a consistent motif in Blackbrid, even if the rest of the style is still how it normally looks,

Now look at the coloring on Blackbird-

and THEN we switch to this sketchy style, which is NOTICEABLY the same as Blackbird's flashbacks but just colored with clearer line art.

This background is still clear but notice even their smear frames are drawn like this, and if you've seen some of my other post this isn't how they normally draw smears, let alone switching brushes and adjusting the entire color palette for it, and this is where the worst part of the fight for Seven starts! This is where he gets hurt!

Which , these genuinely look like the deepest cuts Seven has gotten in a while- and now watch these frames:

NOTICEABLE. FUCKING. DIFFERENCE. The second, the second Seven realizes that he has an opprotunity here and that he can use the light against Blackbird, the art style turns back to normal!

I mean as this fight ends and Blackbird DIES we don't see this again outside of his flashback! The usual sketchy parts of his body change to another texture!

And I just, it makes me so happy that not only have they found an art style they like, and are comfortable with, but are so good with it to a point that they can play with the art style now for story telling elements! And I mean even as Blackbird screams and tries to kill Seven the art style stays, because even if Blackbird can't feel it and we don't know yet, he has definitively lost this battle and this will drain the rest of his energy and kill him before it will kill Seven!

This bird flying away- and Blackbird's last flashback- is the last we see of this art style.

and I just. RAAAAAAH I love this episode. I feel like I could go on more and I might later - I still really wanna know if there's a reason why they put so much emphasis into Seven switching hands when he's using the sword, given he's ambidextrous and it's never been focused on before, I think it might be because he's not using his scissors even though they're near but I'm not really sure. I can't tell if using his scissors over his sword would be more draining given his last attempt at them in season 3 knocked him out cold. GOD this show makes me so fuckin mentally ill

HLVRAI TMA AU (BP edition)

Hoo boy! Here we are! This post is going to get LONG because I am SO fucking autism about this shit. Like infodumps, TMA and/or Hlvrai? Stick around! Don't? Last chance to scroll by.

Inspired by @corvidaeconundrum! Their HLVRAI/TMA stuff inspired me to post my version.

General info:

This is a game au! The game the player ends up getting was an experimental rip of Half Life to bring the Fears closer to a nonexistent world, and see if they could affect lives that technically do not exist. (Aka some nerdy avatars decided it'd be a fun little side project to generate more fear) Unfortunately the project was eventually deemed a failure and given away to some poor soul for shits and giggles. That poor soul ends up being the player, getting more than he could've bargained for.

Gordon:

(I don't have a drawn ref for Gordon because I forgot to save Krita right as I was coloring him in :') I'll upload him when i have the motivation to try again.)

As the player proceeds through the game, they find themselves accepting the role of Gordon more than their own identity at times. While parts of themself are integrated into Gordon (their son, dreams to be a streamer, etc.) they eventually fully accept Gordon Freeman as who they are. Gordon does eventually become an avatar. Throughout Black Mesa, Gordon is often confused, and denied any sense of logic in his mounting terror regarding the situation. As he's ambushed by the military, and his hand is sawed off, he's faced with a choice. He can stay here, and die confused, alone, and afraid, or he can go home to his son, a mess of inconsistencies and terror. He takes a knee and submits to the Spiral, taking on the burden of insanity as an identifying trait. When the game is turned off and put away, he finds himself still embodying Gordon Freeman and the Spiral in the real world.

Dr. Coomer:

WARNING! Clowns, existentialism, and body horror regarding eyes

Harold P. Coomer has been a loyal employee of Black Mesa long before Becoming an avatar of the Stranger. Faced with confusion in his identity, and a few failed experiments, he found himself in avatarhood. More than anything, he doubted himself as a real person. Of course, this thinking was absurd, and he often relied on his friends to anchor himself as somewhat human. A person who mattered. But with the first glimpse outside of Black Mesa, an unloaded map with half-finished textures, enemies as still as statue, unaware of their own existence... He Knew. He Knew none of it was real. That he wasn't real. He Knew that every time he had grounded himself, told himself he was real... that it didn't matter. He's been proud of himself then, for calming down. Now he's distraught more than anything as he takes on a new burden: The Eye. After being separated, he collects the old parts of himself. Damaged, rejected pieces left behind after experiments, he stitches them together, fuels them with the same rage he feels. After Gordon and Tommy fight their way through, he feels conflicted. He takes a while to think. To reflect. To realize that it doesn't matter how he exists or why. He was made with purpose. With love. To be someone. With a new perspective gained, He rejoins the Science Team.

Bubby:

The perfect scientist was hell to create. It needed time, wastes of Government money, and sacrifices. Through this, Bubby was eventually created, a born avatar of the Desolation. Keeping him sustained wasn't easy, either. A couple phones with heartfelt memories a week usually satisfied him enough to be cooperative. But despite his nature, Bubby found someone he cared about. That he'd never take anything from: Dr. Coomer. The two bonded instantly, becoming best friends in a matter of days. One night, they managed to sneak out. Arson was committed, ice cream was bought, everything was going perfectly. But as night fell, Bubby discovered a new desire. The stars in the sky. He almost wished he could reach out and touch one. During the escape from Black Mesa, he almost achieved this dream. Climbing on top of the rocket, he reached for the atmosphere, before he stumbled and fell. The fire felt cold as he dropped. It was an experience completely alien to him. He'd been confined his entire life, yet the open sky greeting him as he plummeted terrified him more than anything, and the Vast made a connection. When he hit the ground, he saw stars... and nothing else. The voices of the people he cared about echoed in his ears as his own felt incredibly distant. Realizing he'd never actually see Dr. Coomer again, he wondered if this was what it was like to have everything taken from you.

Tommy:

Nobody really knows where Tommy came from. Not even Tommy himself. All he knows is that he has a dad, a dog, remembers the entire OSHA handbook cover to cover, loves bayblades, and his favorite thing in the world is soda. He knows that all of this isn't real. He knows he's an avatar of the Spiral and the Stranger. He doesn't really care. He wants to go home, eat dinner, and walk his dog.

BENREYBENREYBENREYBENREYBE?:

WARNING! BENREY'S DESIGN IS INTENDED TO CAUSE CONFUSION, DISORIENTATION, AND EYE-STRAIN

Barney Calhoun was something of a klutz. So it came to the surprise of no one when he stumbled through a door and never came back. All anyone knows is that Barney disappeared one day, and Benrey showed up. He wants out. He doesn't know how he got here. He knows it isn't real. He wants out. And he's going to do anything he needs to get to the real world.

Sunkist:

WARNING! Body horror and eye contact ahead. She's a good girl I promise :)

Tommy's beloved dog, and avatar of the Flesh. Did the team a favor and "disposed of" (integrated) the bodies they left behind. Looks like she got an earring out of it, too. Oh by the way she's fucking MASSIVE. Clifford-looking ass dog.

Forzen:

(Haven't drawn him yet. He looks basically the same.)

Just wants to graduate. He doesn't know why these guys look so weird or why their fucked up dog considers him a chew toy. Maybe if he survives Sunkist he can go home. Maybe.

Darnold:

(Also haven't drawn him. Is also basically the same.)

Just works in the mixology department, and is the only normal human at Black Mesa. Friends with Tommy, refuses to let his coworkers eat radioactive materials for funsies.

And yeah, that's basically my interpretation of the AU! I'm still working on concepts regarding it, but I just wanted to get this out there.

idk if your still busy so obviously finish what your doing before doing anything else but do you know how hyuna's prosthetic latches together?? I think theres like a knee-latch on her prosthetic that's a bit father down than her other leg but theres so much going of its hard to tell whats going in that area

Honestly I'm not sure how the mechanics of it would work, especially since there's got to be some weird alien technology or structure at play there. It's pretty different from what a prosthetic leg is like in real life, so it's tricky to make assumptions based on that, too.

There's some stuff I noticed about Hyuna's leg across the various official arts, though. Mostly the fact that it's inconsistent, and I kind of see a reason for it. Please forgive me as I go on a bit of a ramble.

In her original performance outfit the prosthetic is structured almost like it's just a normal leg molded out of metal. It's a lot more solid and is dark in color, almost black. It also seems as if it goes up to just her knee? Maybe it still goes up to her thigh and she just ripped her pants until the knee for better/unobstructed joint movement. It joins at the ball of her knee and seems to be composed of quite a few different parts, somewhat complicated.

In All-In, Hyuna's prosthetic is still mostly of average leg shape. The most notable difference is that the leg includes hollow spaces, most likely thinner parts assembled together as opposed to one solid leg. It's also a different, lighter color. We can infer from this image that her leg is until her upper thigh.

And then we have the latest one. Hyuna's leg in All-In seems to be until her upper thigh, but this image makes it seem as if it goes much higher than that (although it's most likely an artistic choice. maybe I shouldn't look into it too much. I've learned my lesson 😭). But it's interesting how this leg is the most unique, solid and without hollow spaces, but considerably thinner, more simple.

There's also the fact that you mentioned, the latch being farther down in comparison to her actual knee. It's different from her previous prosthetic legs which seem to join at the knee exactly and are much more similar to that of normal leg anatomy. For this prosthetic, her leg doesn't actually latch at the knee, it latches just a bit below it. The prosthetic knee may look a little lower, but it's just the way she's angled, left leg facing left and right leg facing forward.

Maybe I'm overexplaining something that's already obvious/basic knowledge, my bad. Also I'm no scientist, so I could be wrong.

Anyway, the fact that Hyuna's leg changes quite a bit is interesting. It could be a design shift from the earlier production of ALNST to the finalized version, but I personally like to think that Hyuna's leg changes because she replaces it sometimes. Her lifestyle calls for a lot of action, and while her body can heal itself overtime, her prosthetic leg is prone to wearing and breaking apart.

This is how I see it (just a theory/maybe headcanon):

The leg she has in her performance outfit is one supplied to her by the aliens, which is why it looks much more sturdy, more like a true human leg. They're very advanced, so they'd know exactly how to make one that best suits her. Once Hyuna escapes to the rebellion, she doesn't have access to that kind of material anymore, nor does she know how replicate it. So instead she gets creative, taking scraps of metal and joining them together to make another leg, which is why it looks considerably lighter and less complicated. Whenever her leg breaks, she (or someone from the rebellion) creates a new leg from the material they can find, which is why her legs become progressively more simple and less conventionally "leg-like" . It's no problem to her though, and she's very proud of it.
