in all the 'trauma siblings' stuff with Clover & Kanako, I keep coming back to thinking about how Flowey engages with this

Like, here's someone who went through an at least similar ordeal of getting a human soul mixed into a monster body, leading to a lethal, traumatic injury, into a rebirth into a new body whose physical and emotional state are all way the fuck out of wack

Except Flowey was shaped a lot by having to go through the traumatic aftermath alone, and lives in the weird space of having experienced unknown years of resets but also is still mentally kind of a child

So I have to think that Flowey sees these kids and that little Asriel part of him is screaming "don't let them wind up like us", but being Flowey he also has no idea how to really comfort anyone.

Leading to sweet moments like Clover collapsing somewhere and before anyone else in their family can even pick up on something being wrong, there's already vines springing up to catch them, because of course Flower would know how to spot weakness in people after years of doing that, but now there's a productive positive use for that instinct and it's nice

But also moments like "Gee how do I cheer up Kanako about that appointment with Alphys... I know! We'll torment her! What a wonderful idea!" Because hey, a little bit of sadism always cheered him up when he was suffering

And he'd probably settle toward a crass & hyperbolic style of comforting people with hit-or-miss moments, like a sort of "Wow clover you ate SHIT just now", trying to get them laughing at the misfortune instead of crying, but obviously sometimes It's Not The Time For That or he reverts a bit back to thinking something really fucked up like "Man, that person was really rude just now, we should kill them and everyone they love" and the kids look back at Flowey like "dude what the fuck"

And everybody's different ways of processing trauma are constantly both helping and clashing with each other as these kids help each other figure this shit out because as much as the adults want to help nobody but these 3 can really come close to understanding how it feels

this has been a big ramble for an ask and not really an ask but I wanted you to have this

flowey struggles with knowing the concept of empathy and compassion but not really. KNOWING it. i imagine he can at least remember how it feels being asriel and during the final boss but. its easy to know what it is and harder to put it into practice when you dont actually feel it

i think youre right in that he would try his best to help but not really know HOW. like it takes him a bit to realize that oh, i can see the weaknesses in people, whatdo i do with this information now that i cant use it to exploit them? what can i do to help instead of harm? what is objectively the GOOD thing to do with this information?

hes still an asshole and a bitch but he cares. hes learning to anyways. even if he missteps a lot the people around him are forgiving and willing to help him on the right path and correct him. i love…. flowey :[

As much as they hate Alphys

She DID try to help

I mean, to be her advocate

The DT Experiment did work for a moment (still risky tho, not denying that)

But the instant regret of making the Amalgams was too much to handle

I mean, if you were in her situation, what WOULD you say to the ones who donated? What COULD you say?

"So I brought back your loved ones but they melted together"

(Still stupid of her to hide it but still, when you got high expectations, you can fall far and hard when you fail)

Will they EVER forgive Alphys?

she did try to help but also… her cowardice and inability to own up to her own mistakes resulted in family members being separated and in the dark, and monsters wandering an old dark lab area for years and forever changing their psyche…. she tried but she hurt so many people in the end that can never be reversed

all she had to do was be like “i may have celebrated too early, heres exactly what happened to your family, you can still come see them if you want” bc like… their family still would’ve loved them probably and they deserved to know no matter what happened. doctors send premature hopeful messages to patient’s families all the time, alphys just wasnt strong enough to own up to that

in terms of the uty cast, i dont think ceroba will ever forgive her; ceroba is already EXTREMELY tentative with letting her look at kanako and clover under intense supervision, but like. she is Not letting her kids be with alphys again, even if she knows alphys wont do anything again. she also just tends to hold grudges in general LMAO. kanako just hates what alphys did to her, and as a kid i think she hates her, but i think as she grows up she realizes that. alphys did the best she could and tried to give kanako a good life in the labs. still bitter and resentful bc there was no need to keep her there, but accepting that alphys did try her best to take care of them and had good intentions going in. she wasnt expecting anything that happened TO happen. i thunk kanako would forgive, but never forget the torment she was put through due to alphys

Don't expect this one anytime soon, because this is frame 166 out of who know how many (probably, like, 500 or so). And that's with skipping ahead in the whole ass MONOLOGUE I wrote for this (with a grand total of THIRY FOUR LINES), five lines ahead to be exact, which I am writing two characters at a time to try and make it seem like in-game dialogue. Thankfully when I get to this line, I can just work backwards and delete the characters that I don't need at that time

OH, and this is only part 1 of 2 because they each have different aspect ratios. I COULD have had them be the same, but then I'd have to remake each sprite I used to scale them up or down depending on which one I would have decided on, and there is no way I'm doing that even though it would, technically, be easier

Yeah this one is definitely gonna be an on-off sorta thing while I work on the rest of the Clovers. I am sooooo dreading part 2 (which is where I got the idea for this) since it will have so many complicated things to make

I fixed my background problem

Yes, I did reanimate Star's mouth and text for this

This will be the ONLY instance I do this because the other one has one hell of a background that I will NOT be doing

Funnily enough, I managed to figure out my background problem because of another special little animation I have planned... or rather, a set of two animations planned (I wanted them to be the same animation, but I needed different aspect ratios for it to work, so)

Also, since I'm here

The flashes of black are meant to emulate those instances when Sans cuts away mid attack or those weird time stop moments with Sans and Flowey, I also imagine that sound effect playing

Is it weird that I actively imagine and can hear certain sound effects for these things? Like for the coffin shaking or when Clover starts to die and they shake (which was a detail I added since monsters always do a little shake when they get hit in battle, even cutscene damages like Flawed Pacifist Ceroba or finishing off Asgore in Neutral or Geno (and also I genuinely thought that they already did that in game)), I always imagine the damage sound effect playing

That has literally nothing to do with anything... Oh well
