a non-comprehensive list of reasons why bruce has tried banning halloween in the manor

1. dick was overly trusting of clowns as a child. he still holds the family record for most kidnappings in a single night

2. jason tried wearing his robin uniform as a costume. every. year.

3. jason then graduated to dressing up as his corpse and haunting (traumatizing) his brothers

4. cass always manages to scare him. no clark he does not shriek.

5. tim, duke, and steph got ‘spooky scary skeletons’ stuck in his head and martian manhunter started laughing at him in a JL meeting because of it

6. damian was followed and subsequently kidnapped by what they assumed was a group of very tall trick or treaters, but were actually just the league

7. that time of year is when jerry the turkey gets a little self aware (re: defensive). there have been incidents.

8. he walked downstairs only to be greeted with every member of his family dressed like green lantern. even alfred.

9. young justice decided to throw a giant party and to get in you had to wear the shittiest batman costume possible for their contest

10. jason won said contest. he didn’t even stay for the party, he just wanted the excuse

11. gotham rogues are drama kids and are therefore sluts for good thematic irony, so half of them do special edition attacks on halloween

12. the kids all do a candy swap at the end of the night, they invite kate and not him

13. tim has an allergy to peppermint and never seems to be aware of this, so he has to keep multiple epi pens on standby

14. he’s expected to wear slutty costumes and that’s just not worth his playboy cover

15. alfred only confiscates the candy he gets

16. he was just really hungover one year

17. damian has made them all watch coraline so. many. times. he doesn’t even get nightmares anymore

18. tim goes on a sugar high and has to be put on tech lockdown or he might frame lex luthor for murder and extort 90% of gotham’s elite

19. when dick and jason were younger they left open pumpkins outside his door and he would accidentally step in them every morning

20. damian tried to convince them to bob for apples with lazarus water

21. tim fell asleep while bobbing for apples (in normal water) and almost drowned

22. dick and steph drew a glittery skeleton over the batsuit

23. when he complains they all call him the grinch. it’s not even christmas.

24. pumpkin carving always leads to them flinging the innards at eachother and making a mess even alfred refuses to clean

25. the validity of candy corn argument comes to blows. every. single. year.

26. duke lead a revolt one year against the tyranny of bruce’s “no slanderous costumes” policy (he wanted to be slutty batman)

27. the kids throw a rager in the cave and somehow never get caught. it’s the only time they’re all willing to clean and it pisses bruce off that he can’t prove it.

28. bruce got sick and clark walked around the watchtower in a batman costume pretending to be him for two days

29. steph and dick glued the lorax mustache to him while he was sleeping because he refused to pick a costume. it didn’t come off for a week, and lois posted an article speculating he was secretly a natural ginger.

30. all the kids stayed in once and watched ‘it’s the great pumpkin charlie brown’ instead of partying and he’s been trying to get them to do it again ever since

HALLOWEEN 🎃🍁🍂 • Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31 every yearly celebration. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats. • Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago, mostly in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. ~ This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. • To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other’s fortunes. happy birthday to "the world is having more fun than me (tonight)"!!!

it has officially been one year since i started this stupid indulgent au of mine. so in honor of my commitment to this au for a full fucking year, i have some fun stuff to share!!

i'll be making posts all day about the au, tagged as "au birthday shenanigans" if you want to block it.

it all started because i speedran rewatching the series and decided i (like the rest of the fandom) wanted to change the ending of phantom planet.

then, i wanted to create a college au because i wanted to see what would happen to this danny that i created (and i got my senior year stolen by covid so i wanted to lived vicariously through my characters). it was supposed to be a lighthearted au, fun little snippets of college nonsense here and there. i expected to write for a few months, maybe, and then abandon it like i did everything else.

but then i found the ectober prompts and it was kinda all over from there. i used nanowrimo to finish the ectober prompts (i found them oct 25th alksjfkdsjf) and between the two months wrote 25 chapters. i had started developing a solid plot by this point, actually, and then it snowballed even further from there.

and now here we are! one year, 266k+, more than 30 works, and two fandom events later!

some fun facts about the series below the cut

vanessa was going to be danny's original love interest. then i realized they had major friend vibes, and after i wrote "the ghost boy can have a little coffee (as a treat)" i thought about using maybe luke. a cliche, for sure, but luke was sadly straight. then i realized that he and his roommate, mateo, had chemistry. y'all know how that's gone

mateo was originally supposed to be a point of conflict with danny. they weren't supposed to get along and were never supposed to get close. (that definitely changed, didn't it??)

vanessa was the first character i created for the specter squad, and emrys was the second

emrys had three name changes before i fell on that name. welsh names are hard and i had to find the right vibes. plus now i get to make merlin jokes so it's perfect

manaia and nikau's majors were originally flipped. nikau was the marine biologist and manaia was the voice and dance major. i flipped it because i felt like the vibes were wrong

there was going to be a buffy crossover episode for halloween year one. then i got the halloweekend idea, and the course of the fic permanently changed

i never intended for luke to become a regular part of the specter squad. he was supposed to be a throwaway character for that one fic, after i realized he wasn't danny's love interest. then my sibling decided they liked luke and wanted more of him. he quickly became one of my favorite characters to write and became central to the plot of the first arc. which my sibling regrets, but i am very grateful for

manaia and vanessa's relationship was news to me, and the third that ends up in their polycule was a fucking shock to me. i can't say anything yet, not until after invisobang, but hooboy. just you wait. it's gonna be so fun

nikau and emrys may or may not be in a relationship. i have no idea. neither do they. it's queer, no matter what it is, and i love them so much

i would die for any of my blorbos, but mateo especially. he is the Blorbo Supreme

I PASSED MED-SURG 2!

I DID IT GUYS!

I officially passed Med-Surg 2 with a B! It’s my first B so far in the program, but I’m happy it ended up being one of my actual nursing courses and that I was able to keep straight A’s as an underclassman. In high school, I was consistently in honor and AP courses, alongside community college courses, so maintaining A’s was a struggle. I still ended up in the first decile of my class, Ranked #7, with mostly A’s and a few B’s to show for it.

This was a very challenging class for me, but it was necessary in order to get me into the critical thinking mindset of a nurse and how to recognize my priorities. I hope that this class benefits me during the NCLEX, but we’ll see in 2024!

I was really worried about my performance in this class, as I had several life-changing events in the last six months that genuinely made me reconsider nursing and had me thinking about dropping out/switching my career path. I was worried about being deferred a semester if I earned less than a C+ (requirement to pass a nursing course in my program), so I was really proud of myself to maintain a B at the very least.

On the plus side, it doesn’t dent my GPA too harshly, so I get to keep my scholarship and Dean’s List award!

I cared more about my grade in the class instead of learning and applying the material. I ended up getting COVID soon after Halloweekend, and I had a nervous breakdown about my performance in this class. On the plus side, I passed, and I managed to make it this far.

I officially have three semesters left to go! Two semesters of clinicals, and one semester of preceptorship/passing the exit exam. Sooner or later, I’ll be taking the NCLEX and applying to new-grad positions.

My junior year is already halfway complete. I hope that the next semester will be fulfilling, exciting, challenging, and better for me overall.

BEING COMPETITIVE WAS IN AUDREY’S BLOOD. ever since she was a little girl, audrey wanted to be the best. over the course of her life, being the best had different meanings. she wanted to be the best waltz dancer in her class, wanted to be the prettiest girl in her grade, wanted to be the most popular girl in school. though the goal changed, the sentiment remained the same. often, her competitive streak was dedicated to long-term, overarching labels and goals, but it also came out in small tasks as well. in this instance in particular, audrey’s goal was small: win the tiara. it was fake, plastic, but pink, and at this moment, seemed to be the perfect accessory for her outfit. with her target acquired, all audrey had to do was be the first one to fill and pop her clown’s balloon. water gun aimed, the second the game started, audrey pounced. in a matter of minutes, the game was over, and the tiara was being placed in her hands. grinning, the blonde turned towards her left, flashing the accessory to her competitor, who also happened to be her friend. “ha! told you I’d beat you.” she boasted, paying no mind to the two other competitors to her right who left, off to participate in some other carnival game at the halloweekends event. “wanna do the honors and crown me for my victory?”
