Let’s Talk About Writers’s Labor and Entitled Readers
Last year, I wrote a post on what I'd like to call 'Writer's Envy', or when writers with smaller blogs hate on ones with super popular blogs they (might) believe with little to no effort.
Here’s the link
I wanna talk about the mental/emotional labor that goes into writing these fics and how entitled readers are wearing writers' last nerves.
People write and share fics/series for a variety of reasons. I do cuz I have a shitton of creativity that I don't use in my everyday life and it's fun to do historical, political, and fairy tale/folklore 'what ifs'. I wanted to give back to the community that's kept me sane during the early days of the pandemic.
It takes A LOT of time to prep, write, (usually) proofread, and publish these fics. I have lost count of how many writers/creators talk about the time (sometimes months if not years) of research, worldbuilding, outlining, spellchecking, curating images, moodboard/divider creating, and finding the best time to publish their work.
It takes a lot out of person to do this as often as many of your favorite authors do.
So it does hurt when readers complain about how their favorite fics/series doesn't have the next part published despite the fact that many of us do this for FREE as in YOU ARE NOT PAYING US TO WRITE.
It is aggravating when my fellow writers are bombarded with 'asks' on stuff like:
Why hasn't their masterlist been updated with a fic they just wrote
Why won't they write a fic on a topic they explicitly stated they won't write?
Why won't they write more of this pairing?
Why won't they share/read more of these type of fics?
There are a ton more I could list and if you've been the target of this type of behavior, I am sorry. People, you are not entitled to our time and labor. If you are spending this much time going to another blog and destroying someone else's peace, you can write your own fics.
If you keep shitting/hate DMing writers with this nonsense, they'll leave and you better pray they're not petty enough to drop names.
WE DO NOT HAVE TO explain our schedule.
WE DO NOT HAVE TO respond to the messages demanding us to post the next installment 'right now'.
WE DO NOT HAVE TO write the fics that YOU want to read
These fics are for OUR ENJOYMENT, NOT YOURS!!!!

To lovely humans who were excluded from invitations, left behind when they tied their shoes, forced to walk in the grass when the sidewalk was full, spoken over when you tried to contribute, whispered about or laughed at, given side-eye when you tried to fit in.... you are so worthy of love.

The WGA has two main stipulations. First, the guild wants to make sure that “literary material” — the MBA term for screenplays, teleplays, outlines, treatments, and other things that people write — can’t be generated by an AI. In other words, ChatGPT and its cousins can’t be credited with writing a screenplay. If a movie made by a studio that has an agreement with the WGA has a writing credit — and that’s over 350 of America’s major studios and production companies — then the writer needs to be a person.
“Based on what we’re aiming for in this contract, there couldn’t be a movie that was released by a company that we work with that had no writer,” says August.
Second, the WGA says it’s imperative that “source material” can’t be something generated by an AI, either. This is especially important because studios frequently hire writers to adapt source material (like a novel, an article, or other IP) into new work to be produced as TV or films. However, the payment terms, particularly residual payouts, are different for an adaptation than for “literary material.” It’s very easy to imagine a situation in which a studio uses AI to generate ideas or drafts, claims those ideas are “source material,” and hires a writer to polish it up for a lower rate. “We believe that is not source material, any more than a Wikipedia article is source material,” says August. “That’s the crux of what we’re negotiating.”
In negotiations prior to the strike, the AMPTP refused the WGA’s demands around AI, instead countering with “annual meetings to discuss advancements in technology.”

hey guys so apparently this is a thing a lot of people don't realise but like. if you have had writer's block/ art block for like. six months. a year. two years. that's maybe not a block. that's maybe depression. and you should maybe look into treating the source of the problem instead of just beating yourself up for not being able to write/draw. be kind to yourself and know that your struggle to create isn't based in laziness or a lack of skill or talent.

hi I don't think this duo gets enough love, so here are my fave screenshots of Raph and Leo mirroring each other! :D
+bonus:
Tumblr media
look at this frame! don't their poses look similar, even though they're in totally different places?? well, there's a simple reason for it! we can see raph in the driver seat, his left hand on the wheel, while the other one's searching for someting, it's symbolising his active role as leader, while leo stands alongside him, his left hand on a handhold while he gestures with the other, showing him being less active and more of a passive presence, but he's ready on his feet, it's symbolising his potential as raph's co-leader but also him not yet being ready, still gripping the safety rails instead of the driving wheel-
(nah i'm kidding- like, was it just artists drawing similar poses in one scene? oh yeah most definitively! will that stop me from over-analysing? nope! :D this basically wrote itself!)

When I was 7 years old I hated that Zack and Cody were no longer at the hotel. I didn't like the new show at first and belive me I was complaining about it for weeks.
And now you're telling me that the reason behind it was Disney's greed?

That feeling when, after 33 years of Heavily Implied Situationship, a canon romance is established and then imploded in 3 minutes flat as a plot device to set up the final act of a trilogy for which there is as of yet no confirmed third part.

No, love. Not every single character has to have a romantic partner to be interesting. It is okay for characters to end up alone. Or not have romantic experiences at all. No matter their sexuality. Aromantic and Asexual characters can exist and be a good representation of the queer community. Not only gay couples represent queer struggle.
That's all. Thanks.

Reminder: You can draw and write things that can't exist in real life.
You can draw a dog in space if you want to, and you don't owe anyone an explanation for why it's in space or how it can survive without a space suit.
You can draw perspective that doesn't make sense. Your art is allowed to defy reality and canon. You can change chronological rules, write crossovers that break spacetime, and make AUs that don't make sense without having to explain how or why. You can draw characters in nonsensical scenerios, doing things they'd never do and saying things they'd never say, and you don't have to apologize or justify yourself. You can draw heroes being unusually angsty and irredeemable villains being soft and cuddly with NO regard for whether it would "actually ever happen in the story"
You can do that if you want. You are allowed to.
