LET THEM COOK!
Tumblr media
tw: none! just pure fluff :]
pairings: task force 141 x gn!reader (can be either platonic or romantic)
summary: cooking with tf-141 heacanons :3
characters: simon "ghost" riley, john "soap" mactavish, john price, kyle "gaz" garrick, and gary "roach" sanderson
notes: first batch of headcanons yurrrr 🗣️‼️💯 (sorry if they're a bit ooc im abt to eep :P)
Tumblr media
john price
he's a cook from the heart type of guy and it always turns out (surprisingly) really good
most of the recipes he has memorized are probably comfort meals or hangover cures
this man is so well meaning, standing behind you and helping you with every damn thing no matter how small the task. he does the thing where he holds your hand when you're chopping anything with a knife or stirring and guides you. it gets a bit overbearing but he's trying his to help
probably acts like you have never seen an oven/stovetop before and is constantly reminding you its hot as if thats not the whole point of it
he likes playing music while he cooks with you (most likely a shared playlist between the both of you) he likes humming along to it and he likes it even more when he can hear you hum along with him
the meal he defaults to making with you is probably chicken pot pie that tastes just like home
kyle "gaz" garrick
this man can BAKE. cake? muffins? cookies? he's got a recipe for it and you bet your ass its a damn good recipe.
he probably enjoys having the great british bake off in the background while he cooks
out of all the guys in TF-141, gaz is probably the one you should trust the most in there with you. when its the two of you in the kitchen not only do you get things done efficiently, it ends up being super fun with minimal chaos!
you definitely made each other those super cute lunchbox cakes for each other at one point
as much as he loves trying new recipes with you, making strawberry rhubarb pie from scratch with you is one he will always default to. he prefers his slice with a side of whipped cream <3
john "soap" mactavish
i dont think any of the guys are completely incompetent in the kitchen, when left alone in a kitchen soap could probably make a pretty good meal. emphasis on him alone in the kitchen
but when it is you two in the kitchen it will take a lot longer than expected or go to shit (but will still be edible!)
gets into flour fights with you even if the recipe doesn't call for any. he just grabs it out the pantry and WHAPOW it looks like the pillsbury dough boy just fucking exploded
he also keeps eating things he's not supposed to. raw cookie dough, batter, straight up flour, etc he probably took a bite or two for "taste testing purposes" of course. he's lucky he's got an iron stomach because if his immune system was even the tiniest bit weaker food poisoning would be beating his ass
one thing that you would enjoy making together would probably be crème brûlée. of course he get the honors of the little blowtorch part but you could get away with doing a few if you ask very nicely
gary "roach" sanderson
he takes the smaller tasks like chopping things up, washing fruits and veggies, or keeping the countertops organized and he does a really good job at whatever small task you give him
ask him to slice something up for you and trust they will be in the most perfect even slices you have ever seen in your life
if you're baking together he would love watching whatever delicious creation you made together rise in the oven. he likes just sitting criss cross applesauce on the floor, feeling the warmth radiating from the oven as he watches the baked goods cook. the first time he did this you didn't realize he was just sitting on the floor so you tripped over him
your go-to thing to make together is definitely chocolate chip cookies. roach likes putting small designs on top with chocolate chips like hearts, smiley faces, or just cuss words because he's silly like that
they come out really good but if you share with someone else make sure you don't hand them one that says "dick" in all capital letters
simon "ghost" riley
he has all the measurements with him and a scale to measure ingredients so you think he's precise and it will be all fine right? wrong. sure he measures his ingredients but if he goes over he probably doesn't try to fix it. ghost is the type of guy to shrug it off and adds it to the bowl anyways. to him measurements are suggestions
this bitch doesnt level his measuring cups
this usually goes well for cooking but for baking not so much
has forgotten to add in seasonings on a number of occasions so right before you put it in the oven you have to do a whole checklist to make sure that everything that should be in there is actually in there
favorite thing to make together is probably pesto pasta. most of it is measured by heart which he definitely appreciates and also less dishes to wash!

here are my reasons that Brandon Sanderson is a bitch ass hoe
all the villains he made fat and/or gain weight to show that theyre greedy and evil and irredeemable. fuck you. fuck you so hard for that. fuck you so bad. sadeas should not be "stout" roshone should not be gaining weight in every kaladin flashback you see him in i hate you sanderson i would think as someone who has gained weight as part of aging yourself you would be less of an asshole on this front. die.
DALINAR UGLY???????? REFUSE TO BELIEVE DALINAR HOT????????? YOUR TASTE IN MEN IS SOOOOOO BAD BRANDON SANDERSON. GOD.
when you were in your 30s you wrote dalinar and were like he is JSUT AS IN SHAPE AS HE WAS IN HIS PRIME. 2% body fat shredded as hell NOT tired after doing insane amounts of work. hes basically a 20 year old that is 50. and then you hit your 40s and you were like Dalinar stretched weird and his shoulder hurt. yeah thats what i thought. bitch. i have chronic back pain early for binding reasons so im a little bit sensitive to this before its developmentally normal for me to be so but i think that giving dalinar a little bit of signs of aging and old man weaknesses is a VERY GOOD THING. sorry you dont feel the same way sanderson. smh.

— call me corvid, obsidian, or observatory! its the general names for our online presence. this is a did system, but we tend to not talk about it because we prefer to keep much info about ourselves to close/irl friends only. we also dont often use we/us often, only when actively referring to the entire system.
— i have like a metric ton of ocs that i will never shut up about if given the chance. if youd like to get to know them youre EXTREMELY welcome to send an ask, ill eventually be adding a link to a masterlist carrd to this post that gives a quick image, name, and snippet of info about them all. or at least all the ones that have art lmao. for now, heres my toyhou.se
— i dont actively participate in fandom things, but i do have a List of interests that will be added to as i think of them:

Thoughts on those "the downfall of One Piece" videos by that Drizzt guy? He seems to really like Brandon Sanderson, and with you quiting the same author, I thought it may be interesting to contrast views that seem to be so different in regards to the quality of post time skip One Piece
I watched drizzt's take once yeah... Im not doing it again, so i'll try to give my thoughts on his from parts i distinctly remember.
Well to start off with, my opinion on One Piece isn't entierly positive. I too regard it as a series well past it's prime and highpoint... I just dont regard what came after that highpoint as bad(with exception of one arc). It's a series that is good, but is dragged down by the fact that no matter hoe much it tries, it can never recapture the glorious highpoint that was water 7/enies lobby.
By contrast Drizzt regards One Piece post timeskip more in the vein of Naruto. A series with a very clear, and obvious point where it fell off a cliff, broke it's back, and had to crawl across rocky, muddy, marshy terrain towards the finishline.
So lets start with the shit i kinda agree with him. The Strawhat's dreams are for the most part the most underutilized part of one piece by a wide margin.
Ironicqlly, the two dreams i completely disagree woth being used badly are the ones he bitched the most about, namely Luffy and Zoro. Luffy and Zoro's dreams are different than the rest, in that they don't actually have to achieve anything in between. Beat mihawk, and find One Piece. That's it.
The fact that they just travel on their journey, getting stronger along the way is not really a problem.
He compares luffy negatively to luffy, but the reality is that both of them came into the political climate under very different circumstances.
Roger had to actually do it, he was the trailblazer, the one who proved that it could be done... Evsryone else that followed him, luffy included, all had to repeat his feats to reacht he top. It was from the scramble for that goal that the Yonko system came to be, with 4 pirate superpowers who simply did it better than all the rest... but none of them had the power to sweep the rest away.
And its into this system that luffy came in, and in the end toppled, setting the stage for the endgame.
Otger than luffy and zoro though, none of the crews dreams are used in a particularily good way.
Nami wants to map all the world... We never really see any focus on her map making, and later learn there are over 10 million islands on this planet... Good luck with that.
Sanji wants to find the All Blue... I genuinely dont think it's even been mentioned in any real capacity since all blue.
Usopp wants to be a brave warrior of the sea and meet his dad again... Wrll while the latter seems likely to happen very soon, if usopp hasnt done it by now, he will probably remain a man ruled by fear for the rest of his life.
Chopper wants to create cures to any disease in the world... Sorta used in an interesting way by contrasting him with caesar and Queen... But notice he didnt actually go on to fight and defeat either of them.
Robins dream is at least in the same way as Luffy's and zoro's in that there is a logical endpoint, but unlike theirs we really could have gotten way more insights into the past before through poneglyphs discovered in the story, rather than all the lore being dropped all at once. Oda really was way too focused on the ancienct weapons to realise that the poneglyphs could have been used to give us haunting snippets of character momenys, and pictures of lore from a dying age, that brought about the world government, that would all have fit together at the end.
To illustrate this point, we dont actually know the tone or the content of Joy's apology to the Mermaid princess.
Was it a harrowing apology for his own weakness? A nochelant eh, sorry things didnt work out? A We sure gave it our all huh... And yet it didnt change anything.
The fact is, we dont know. And that illustrates what a missed opportunity the poneglyphs actually were. There was so much room to use them beyond info on the ancienct weapons.
Franky's dream is also a missed opportunity, because we are never really given focus or attention on him fixing the ship or upgrading it.
Brooks is bizarre, because he could have achieved his dream at any point during the timeskip, and just... didnt.
And finally i dont remember what Jinbe's dream actually is... Which is a bad sign in its own way.
As for his other conplaints... I don't actually recall them much. It's been a while.
My own thoughts on one Piece post timeskip is that the problems boil down to a number of key issues.
1. Way too many new characters in each arc.
2. The age old One piece problem of Oda almost never killing characters no matter what means almost nobody gets to exit this story on a highnote, and when Characters do die, it usually feels more like an afterthought, rather than a defining moment(Pretty much everyone of luffy's allies who died in wano feels like this). Combine with point 1, and you get stupidly large casts that almost never get trimmed down, meaning every single arc is full of characters who almost always devolve into greek choruses in some form by the end.
3. One piece has completely changed it's fight structures, so fights where we get to see the action from beginning to end are much rarer, rather than the norm. There is a reason most of the strawhats post timeskip only has 1 or 2 good fights each under their belt(if that), when before every single one of them(except brook) had plenty of vool fights and moments. The new structure where we usually only get to see snippets of fights rather than the entire thing mrans oda can put in way more stuff alongside them, but it also means the fights themselves are usually lackluster.
4. several characters have become worse in one or several ways, and the narrative doesnt really avknowledge this. The biggest, by far, is Sanji, who not only is a worse character in every regard, but every single genuine development he got is undermined and undone. He gets a girl who genuinely loves him in the form of pudding. He hits a woman because of the german upgrqdes and decides to abandon them completely, only for his powers to sorta still be there maybe, but in the end he didnt actually hit the girl, it was an invisible queen. I cpuld go on, but oda had some many chances to shake up Sanji's character after the timeakip, and he backtracked on all of them.
5. Haki got fucking insane in wano. Oda made a gigantic mistake early in wano's arc, where Kaido took out Luffy in one blow. It was a cool moment, but it also meant that haki's ability to let fighters stay on their feet and recover from total beatdowns in record time had to baloon to insane degrees. And lo and behold, that is exactly what happened. Which sucks even more, because the qctual explanation about how luffy had to improve to reqch thw kind of offensive that roger, whitebeard, big mom kaido and shanks have and had was actually pretty cool and set up way before this. But unfortunately that's also introduced in the arc where luffy gets up again and again after kaido beat him unconcious, with no other explanation than Haki baby! It sucks any tension out of any fight when you know haki can allow people to just get back on their feet no matter how gravely theyre wounded.
6. Gear five having no actual foreshadowing/being a zoan.
Oda wrote himself into a corner with the biggest reveal one piece ever had... And there was only 2 ways to handle it to make it truly work.
Either go all in on foreshadowing this shit, and have characters point out that luffy losing his rubber body against sea stone when he doesnt when underwater is kinda wierd(which makes sense for a zoan, but not a always transformed parmecia), and judt highlight that there is a mystery here... So that when the reveal comes it all falls into place.
Or, and this is the solution i would have gone with, have luffy awaken and have all the powers of Nika luffy, just withouth a transformation. Id have accepted the cartoon logic becoming part of the world around him as the awakened powers of a rubber devil fruit no problem... It was adding in, oh he's actually a myyhical zoan devil fruit intrical to the world's history where oda lost me.
There are other flaws too, but these are the main repeating ones, you'll find all over the story after impel down.
Overall though, O would say One piece is a good story that suceeds in spite of its flaws... But those flaws very much means that it isnt a perfect story, and after the timeskip, it has never come close to reaching the high watermark again, and thats very the big problem. When you have reached the top, there is nowhere to go but down.
Arguably one piece biggest achievement post timeskip is arguably the fact that in spite of this, it has only had one bad arc, with the rest being good, to great if never outstanding.
The only bad arc of course being dressrosa. I could make an entire retrospective about all the ways that one dropped the ball.

re: the Literature poll, i guess it depends on if u think LOTR falls into the Literature category, bc i think asoiaf is on par with it. LOTR is remembered 80+ years on as a classic in its own right and as the standard for the fantasy genre but it's not the greatest book of the 20th century. i love asoiaf and think it's so lovingly and amazingly crafted but it's not a piece of high art imho. not on dostoyevsky or homer level certainly (maybe i say that bc i don't think grrm's prose is particuarly strong? or at least the prose isn't really the main focus of the books)
just realized i never got to this ask so sorry!! i do think that LOTR falls into the Literature category, though i havent read it yet. I think that what makes a work part of a literary Canon is if it's too important to be ignored, like if it is so influential in what it does that you can't mention the history of a genre without talking about it. usually this means existing in a dialectic with the works that come before it, and both LOTR and ASOIAF have a lot to say about the tropes of fantasy as a whole in a way that I feel isn't done by other fantasy works that are currently popular (although i admit this may be personal bias talking, i havent read enough sanderson or rothfuss or other authors to say). i know this could be an unpopular take but i genuinely believe his prose is up there with the greats, he does something really special with language with these books and one of these days i will write a master post about it. i do think that asoiaf is high art (of course with all the caveats that the high art-low art division is made up) but of course i recognize im biased on this account.

*crashes in here* ok ik i havent been here in a bajillion years and i am so sorry for that and unloading a small novel on you dgkdgkh
but i had the dumbest thought. imagine tryna teach the sanderson's modern stuff. cuz i just saw a selfship post that said something along the lines of studying with your fo (fictional other. like a significant other, but its a fictional character instead of an actual human sgshdh) and now all i can think about is attempting to teach winnie, mary, and sarah all the stuff ive learned over the years
im not sure who'd find which subjects the most interesting. i dont have any art textbooks but i do have some notes from art history and waaayyy too many art supplies and i'd be happy to teach mary and sarah about art history and how to use some of the things i have (assuming i remember how to use thems). i think winnie would be fascinated by science! theres some branches of it like chemistry that feel a lot like magic, but i.... dont have access to things like that nor the smarts to even attempt to do chem (i do have access to vids so theres that at least), so it'd be hard to teach her that. i do have some anatomy and biology books that i think she'd like, and i have so many space books and i am dying to share them with all three of them holy dhit.
as for history, i think all three of them would be fascinated by it. theres been so many things that have happened since they died the first time around as well as so much that happened before they were born or happened when they were young but on the other side of the world.
plus, maybe some of what im talking to them about would help stick in my own brain easier so thats a bonus!
I am SO SORRY I'm answering this right now, but the past few weeks have been hectic to say the least 😭 I started Swedish clases lol.
Anyway YES I AGREE Mary but Sarah especially would be so interested in art methinks. Actually I believe Sarah is interested in fashion in some way (I hc that she made her own clothes and helped make Winnie's gown). And YES Winnie is so woman in STEM to me 😩 however I failed Chemistry every single year of high school lol BUT I was top of my class on Biology 😎 and actually think Sarah and Mary would be interested in Biology, although for different reasons (one for cooking and the other well... torture 😅).
OH YEAH HISTORY THAT'S SO FUN I think maybe they have an interest in different eras, Mary is definitely more of a contemporary girl (the way she picks up modern slang??? Scary). Winnie might be obsessed with the British Royal Family ngl 😭 I wonder what she'll think of Princess Diana. Now Sarah I'm not sure what she would enjoy from History 🤔 I mean ig fashion history or something idk 😭😭😭
ALSO ACTUALLY I REMEMBER WATCHING AN ALCHEMY VIDEO and it's pretty much Chemistry so. I think Mary would enjoy Chemistry too but maybe a different branch. Medicinal Chemistry perhaps? While Winnie is more of a Environmental Chemistry girl (since she literally can shoot lightning from her fingers I wouldn't be surprised she wanted to make a contraption to... Idk shoot fire as hot as the fucking sun)

HIII ERMM its kinda stupid but i wanted to ramble again. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FLUFFY BUT. my brain dont work that way. COME EAT YOUR GHOST ROACH SOAP ANGST PEOPLE!
Cw// Mcd mentions! Suicidal thoughts but its very very subtle ? I’m sorry im still not good at giving cws :”)
A bullet.
He rolled it around his fingers, watching it shine under the moonlight. Smoke of the cigarette he had between his lips was covering his view a little, but it was alright. The ash of it was also getting ready to drop and it was okay too.
Simon was sitting alone, lost in his own thoughts.
He thought about many things, the lives he took for missions. Thought about the men who begged him not to kill them, telling him they had a ‘wife and children’ back at home. Now just rotting where he shot them, died with the memories they could create.
He knew it was an easy trick in the book.
Look eye to eye with your murderer, tell them about your life, your family, get an opening from them. They are only human after all.
Simon often seemed to forget about this fact. With the Skull mask he put over his face to create a wall between him and others, he also put a wall between himself and the humanity he allowed himself of.
When it came to work, he was just renowned Ghost. Not Simon.
But now, with his mask rolled up his nose just enough to uncover the tip of his nose and lips, he also allowed the humanity sneak its petty way into his mind.
He thought about Soap. His boyfriend.
His stupid mohawk, his smile, blue eyes, his smell. Body so warm against his own no matter the situation or weather. His laugh and accent chimed its way into his ears just from his memory.
He thought about Roach, his other boyfriend.
His soft face, mischievous smirk, his hands, pretty scars covering around his body. The grunts and hands moving so fast to sign also chimed its way into his eyes just from his memories.
Simon took another puff off his cigarette, not bothering to shake off the ash building.
He thought about the men mentioning their life again. Wife and children back at home.
He thought if he would ever be in the situation they were in.
Would he mention Soap and Roach ? Tell his soon to be Azrael about his loves and ask, beg for forgiveness.
The bullet he was rolling between his fingers shined under moon again.
He didn’t know. He didn’t know the answer of his own question to himself.
He knew he probably wouldn’t talk if the situation came to it and take his death honorably.
He just wished to see and hear his boyfriends just like he did now, once the situation came to it.
Bullet shined directly into his eye this time, making him slightly flinch.
And oh,
The ash had fallen just on his lap, where the dogtags of his lovers shined.
Gary ‘Roach’ Sanderson and Johnny ‘Soap’ MacTavish.
He selfishly wished that moment to come soon. So he could meet with his lovers again.

Re romantasy and kingdom of the wicked I totally feel you. It's always annoyed me that when women write fantasy about women it is like, automatically assumed to be YA and now with TikTok we see this weird trend of YA books written for adults not kids. A very similar thing happened with Lightlark where the first book was defended by saying it was for kids, and thus wasn't supposed to be good (which...lol) but then the second one was super Horned Up in a way that obviously was not for kids. Just make it for adults from the beginning! Adult fiction isn't scary! I feel the same about NA--why are we acting as if Adult fiction can't be written with a lighter tone? And this is not to say that YA can't have sexual content. Imho it can but that content should be written with the audience in mind and many of these books simply aren't for teens despite the label. Sorry this kinda got away from your post but I wanted to echo that im seeing what you're seeing!
No I'm glad you brought this up!
Honestly, I think that much of the fantasy romance discussion is so colored by a confusion regarding the audience. For many years, a lot of publishers really thought that the only way to sell fantasy romance or romance-adjacent fantasy was to market it as YA. I think that part of this was because, prior to that, there was a real sense of fantasy being a (nerdy) man's space. Like, women enjoyed it, but they were more a bonus than the audience, in the mind of publishing. I don't think they thought of women as the people reading GRRM or Brandon Sanderson. Certainly not Tolkien.
Whereas I believe the YA boom was often attributed to teen girls--and I say that because there was a surprising lack of YA fantasy with male protagonists, at least when I was reading it. Or solo male protagonists, at least; you might have boys thrown into an ensemble, but if there was a solo POV it was usually a girl. And of course, part of this was an extension of looking down on the female audience, right? This isn't "real" fantasy, it's for kids! Despite the fact that there is of course, thoughtful and well-written YA fantasy.
Then, as it had been happening with Twilight (and everything YA, but I think with Twilight it became this very recognized deal) adult readers became a huge part of the conversation. And I say this as an adult who read YA fantasy primarily for years--I don't think there's anything wrong with that. But I do think there has been a real issue with YA in general being taken away from its original audience. Which is a big reason why things graphic sex have become more prominent in YA. The voice of the adult reader is overshadowing the voice of the teen. (And of course, adults often have more free income to spend on these books--especially as ebooks have become so dominant. A lot teens have e-readers, a lot of them can read on apps, but many of them do not have independent bank accounts they can link to these products, which means they can't buy as freely.)
And while I think it's totally fine for adults to enjoy YA, I don't think it's okay for adults to speak over the primary audience. If you're upset that the teen books aren't giving you the adult content you want, content I think is absolutely fine to want when you read... Grow the fuck up and read adult books. Like I did lmao.
The thing is, for a lot of those readers that's going to mean transitioning to romance, because romance gives them the things they want--it's commercial, it's focused on relationships, it has sex on the page. But for a while--during the YA boom at least--I feel like there were certain authors singled out as like. Above it all. Like they were doing Writing whereas romance has long been seen as... just writing. If that. And I think a lot of readers bought into that.
(So did a lot of writers, for the record. Romance writers have drama, absolutely. But Jesus lmao. The high-handedness of YA authors on Twitter can be something ELSE. Like people, you're writing commercial fiction like all the rest of us. You aren't any better and your drama is not any more impactful.)
So, yeah. I'm glad to see fantasy romance for adults becoming more of a thing, because I personally feel that many authors probably wanted to write for adults, but were pushed to age down by agents and publishers. (Understandably, for agents.) But the transition can be tricky, because I do think the automatic assumption many readers still have is "fantasy with kissing" = YA fantasy. I saw Kerri Mansicalco on Insta being like "we are trying to be very clear that these standalones are adult". To me, these Kingdom of the Wicked books read as soooo adult lol. And it almost seems like you can read the transition in real time. Which is so interesting.

G, K and R for the ask game please 🥰
THANK U ❤️❤️ ENJOY THIS LITERAL ESSAY
G: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
Start to finish... Always straight through (unless of course the order is intentionally nonlinear. But then straight through from the outline anyway)... Sometimes I'll skip part of a scene if it's like... Travel or something I'm having trouble with (I like to use tags like [GET TO RESTURAUNT]) and then I'll go back later and either flesh that bit out or decide its unnecessary. but usually that's not more than one or two paragraphs. I do worry sometimes that I "run out of steam" at the end of fics bc of this strategy but also idk. I don't think any other way would work for me.
K: What's the angstiest idea you've ever come up with?
I don't know..... I'm not very good at knowing what other people will consider angsty or not (truly I have next to no sense of what fics will emotionally resonate lmao)... anything with infidelity where it like... ends bad for both people...I love falling short of your own destiny/ordained by fate in some terrible way.... I love "it could have been right but it wasn't".... idk. I guess I don't really think of my own ideas like this?? I think i like angstier stuff than I actually think up LOL?? also i don't usually have a ton of ideas im not actually working on I guess
R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?
in fic.... marthe @wdcseb and milo who has a new blog but I can't remember what it is... bc they are the ones I talk fic the most with and read their stuff and get to know their process!! and because of that sometimes they are who i write for.... also like anyone I'm friends with is an influence lol.
everything else under the cut this is long. I can talk about books forever
I'm not USUALLY trying to emulate other fic writers (though there certainly have been some deeply notable fics for me who have impacted my writing)... I am often taking bits and pieces from published authors. Here is a SHORT list:
Brandon Sanderson. This embarrasses me because I've read a lot of him. He's not a great writer! His stuff reads different when you think about how Mormon he is! But in terms of structure (esp for fantasy), and the idea that you can just sit down and write it. Just pound it out. Has been VERY influential for me (esp for star wars au)
Edward Abbey, Annie Dillard, Gretel Ehrlich. I very much enjoy people who write about the natural environment in both a scientific and experimental and sometimes narrative and/or religious way. Generally isn't something I'm trying to imitate, but does occasionally come out.
Cormac Mccarthy. Sorry to be a bro. Milo got me into him and I love how he cuts out so much chaff in his writing. Have my critiques, yes. Influential, also yes.
John Steinbeck...East of Eden is one of my fav books), I like how he puts together characters and families. I like the biblical allusions. I like how he writes the landscape. I think reading helps me think about how to put things together. And I think Steinbeck strikes a balance between aspirational and readable and like.... arid and present in a way that works so well for me.
Probably a lot more than I'm not even THINKING about rn. I read. Kind of a lot. Some. Of. It is good some of it is not.
I'll also write a lot of fic that is a response (either an imitation of or how I felt whole reading it) to a book or an author...the two most DIRECT ones are:
hymn of -> Cormac Mccarthy, Hot Milk by Deborah Levy
to what will come ahead -> all the kings men by Robert Penn Warren
Okay this is so long. By now you know I can be SO wordy. but there are some thoughts.

listen, ive been tryna figure out why ive fallen for the meanest of the sisters for the longest time, i still havent figured out why. i definitely really like her looks. her hair looks so soft and nice to play with and i always thought her overbite is kinda cute, lowkey kinda reminds me of a bunny, but like deadly like the killer rabbits from monty python, y'know? but theres something about her personality that draws me to her. she seems so confident of herself, always able to take charge of a situation, doesnt take crap from anyone. ive always really admired people like that, and i kinda wish i was more like that. not like, all of her personality, but i wanna be more sure of myself, be able to lead others better, y'know.
ive also noticed that winnie does seem to love her sisters, despite how often they argue and get on each others nerves. i dont have any siblings, but from what ive heard from friends who have siblings, thats how siblings usually are with each other. they love each other, but they also argue and fight over things too. not to the same extent as the sandersons, but still.
i really do kinda sound like tony, huh? while i do have a lot of characters i have crushes on, only a small handful of them are red heads. obviously, theres winnie and ms frizzle, but i also have a major crush on elizabeth corday from er. and when i was really little, i remember crushing on the flash and hawkgirl from justice league. im almost positive i had a crush on bowser too at some point, but its been so long since ive played any of the super mario games that im not sure if i do or not anymore
*was gonna say something but completely forgot what I was gonna say when I read the last few sentences*
I’m sorry….Bowser??
Would this be you two?

Lord Dunsany and the broken telephone of "fantasy"
Tumblr media
So for my weekly post that nobody will care for, I'll again squeeze out some shit related to a topic I researched for the iceberg, but that doesnt really have anything to do with Soul Eater:
Lord Dunsany is often quted in some "deeplore" "well akshually" stuff to be the father of "modern fantasy", but did all the people who read him miss the point?
So I'll start by saying I wasnt ever into fantasy, it allways seemed kinda corny, only stuff I cared was LoTR cause I kinda grew up and around people were obssesed with it and DQ, cause of the DBZ bleed over and because I just like the slimes lol.
That may makes me disqualified about commenting, but eh, I dunno, I think my point will still stand, cause I will bring it back to Tolkien now:
Some people say he was inspired by Dunsanys "word building" to make his own overly convoluted mythology, but here lies my objection:
The two books I read of Dunsany about "the gods of Pegana" seem not really care about the "lore"
They seem to be written in the style as if they were some holy book, yet the names seem deliberately random and often the storys are either contradictory or mix up the details to make a point and to reflect that feeling of myths that arent organized by some obsessive nerd wiki for logical consistency.
Because in the end the books arent about "fantasy" (atleast the ones I have read), but as kinda didactic laments about the authors perceived nihilism and meaninglessnes/cruelty of the world.
Ok that may be reductive, cause there are many vivid and even beautiful or fascinating things described, but in the end you feel that tone of "Oh that is like fanfiction from the Bible book about how everythings is just meaningles vapor" tone.
Like in "the gods and time" there is a great short story about a prophet who sees the "true gods" and abondons the old ones for them with his followers, only to repeatedly then see even greater gods, only to lose more and more of his acolytes with each subsequent trip and in the end arive back at the old gods he rejected at the star - basically a commentary at the foly for the strive of knowledge or about how things are more simple at the end of it all than one trys to think.
But the important thing is that the "gods" of this short story dont really matter more than for the point they make in it - I would be surprised that for example the "mocking gods" have some specific lore, events and super powers etc like shit in Tolkiens stuff has, or in modern generic fantasy, where everyone is some world or warcraft charachter shooting magical auras.
Still, maybe Im ignorant, and in all the other storys there actually is that feeling of a shared mythology and "wordbuilding" besides the tone of "life's a bitch and then you die"
Anyways, what was the point of this all? I guess to say that it is kinda sad that an innovatitive form of literature gets reduced into the current state of "top ten word building tips!" videos on youtube.
Ok maybe thats to harsh, even I know how fun it is to come up with a setting and its own intrincitys, but still, I think one shouldnt limit oneself to that - its like watching DBZ for the power levels - when the point is that they dont matter.
But in the end, maybe this post just shows my own ignorance - maybe most fantasy does that already. Yet when I allways hear everybody praise some Brandon Sanderson guy, who seems to only care about "magic systems being consistent" and literally color codes his creatures to match emotions or some shit idk😂
And also, I wonder if Tolkien had actually finished more books if he hadnt noodled around with his silly lore matching, especially when it in the end still is contradictory😂🤷‍♂️
Anyways, sorry this kinda sounds more spitful than I wanted, guess its cause I saw some video where they talked about these books as if they were all about just creating some wacky fantasy world, which seemed strange to me after having read even just a small part of his whole work.
So: Yeah...Sorry

im doing the mid year book freakout tag
nobody tagged me but fuck it we roll
best book you've read so far in 2023?
its either A Feast For Crows by George R.R. Martin (duh) or Sula by Toni Morrisson. AFFC was just phenomenal, its one of those books i lost myself into and when i had to resurface i felt actual sadness because it was over, and i cant wait to reread it. Sula, however, is just perfect, i laughed and i cried, i felt so connected to the story and the writing just everyone go read Sula. its one of the best books to have ever been written.
i also reread My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante and that is also the best book of all time.
best sequel you've read so far in 2023?
um AFFC!! or A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin. either one if those are phenomenal sequels. tbh i haven't read any other series this year so its either asoiaf or nothing, and storm and feast are my favourites.
new release you haven't read but want to?
nothing?? idk i havent read a new book in forever. maybe Yellowface by R.F Kuang or the new percy jackson book but i have no idea.
most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
unless its a surprise TWOW drop which isn't happening i have absolutely no clue.
biggest disappointment?
i'm sorry to all the fantasy fans out there, but i just finished Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson and i dont care for it. i really thought i would be more interested in the story but it was so meh for me i couldn't bring myself to care about anything or any characters. i did like the magic system.
i also reread The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet, which is a book i ADORED when i was like 14, ans im sad to say it folks but it was foul.
biggest surprise?
again ik this book is old but Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut FLOORED ME. i still think about that book constantly its so phenomenally written and ive owned it for years and never got to it because i thought it would be boring but it was completely excellent.
favourite new author (debut or new to you)?
Susan Sontag, David Foster Wallace and Toni Morrison. first time i read any of them was this year and what a waste of time to not have read them sooner.
newest fictional crush?
its jaime. ig he's from last year but yeah its jaime.
newest favourite character?
uhhhh jaime. jaime lannister. i am not better than this.
a book that made you cry?
My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. It's a reread but jesus christ that ending always gets to me, especially knowing what comes after.
a book that made you happy?
i cant seem to escape ASOS and AFFC, but genuinely my reading experience of asoiaf was unparalleled.
most beautiful book you've bought this year?
i went to the Libreria Lello (aka the world's most beautiful bookstore) and i got the most BEAUTIFL edition of Las intermitencias de la muerte by José Saramago.
what book(s) do you need to read before the end of the year?
i want to read Richard III by Shakespeare, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, En diciembre llegaban las brisas by Marvel Moreno and Beloved by Toni Morrisson. hopefully i'll get through them all
anyways do this if you want you are officially tagged bye
sorry i dont read new books if you have any recs im mega down

are there any stormlight ships u don't like? or least faves?
ha ha wandersail literal ship joke. but i mean jk i love rysn i just didnt want to say the winds pleasure cause i dont want to speak ill of the. well. yeah ok lets get into it
im #1 shakadolin stan forever but im so sorry i did NOT vibe with the potential of kaladin/shallan on their own.....i honestly think that relationship wouldve either imploded in .5 seconds or drawn out forever and been super uncomfortable for both of them...neither of them are super great at communication and i think the very real differences they have wouldve been tough to resolve on their own (with ADOLIN on the other hand--).....i remember finishing wor/waiting for ob like :////// yeesh are we really doing a love triangle. are we really doing a cliched ‘im engaged to someone else but THIS guy Broods and Is Tall and Also Star Crossed Class Traitors Love Story’ (there are REASONS shallan would potentially fall for him but none of what she thought to herself in wor felt like any of them). are we really doing that. and thankfully!!! it was both more complicated and way simpler than that and i was relatively pleased with the conclusion shallan came to about “choosing” at the end of OB!!!! though i still feel very strongly that they should all date!!!

I put a Spell on you - Harry Hook x Sanderson! Reader - Halloween special one-shot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Halloween Harry Hook x reader
basic version of outfit for reader, can be changed as wished
VVVV
Tumblr media
=
Halloween night, 2007, on the isle of the lost.
Young 6-year-old Harry Hook sat in the hull of the jolly roger, pouting to himself as he picked at his scarce stolen candy.
The isle never got much in the way of candy, the most they got was during the month of Halloween that the parents of Auradon threw away early for some odd reason.
Though what candy the isle got was little, and the “good stuff” was still on Auradon.
And Harry had unfortunately gotten a bad pick of candy this year, nasty fruit ropes that tasted like death, molding “coconut” chocolate candy that was too mushy to really enjoy, and watermelon looking hard candy.
The best he got was little wrapped hard pieces of candy that looked like brown barrels that had a slight spice to them.
Harry dropped the piece of candy he was holding and sighed, starting to stand and getting ready to turn in for the night after the disappointing Halloween. “jus’ like last year” Harry mumbled, brushing off his horrifically made copy of his father's jacket, he paused, something rang across his ears. “wha’ was-“
Come little children, I'll take thee away
Into a land of enchantment
Come little children, the time's come to play
Here in my garden of magic.
“singing?” Harry quietly asked himself, turning towards where the voice was coming from. It seemed hypnotic or at least was supposed to be, but It had no grab to it as if it had lost its power.
But Harry's curious nature pushed him to seek the voice out. He snuck off his father's ship and followed the voice into the dark forest near pirates bay.
He ducked as he spotted an old slim woman, the one who was singing, waving her hands about and twirling.
“Winnie~” the woman stopped singing, spinning around and crossing her arms, and whining at a hidden figure “It's not working!”
“of course it's not you twit, the stupid barrier blocks our powers, we won't be getting any children tonight!” “wait!” a plump woman stepped into the mood light, her eyes glinting “I smell a child~”
“that’s just (y/n) you idiot!” the hidden figure scoffed, stepping next to the slim woman, and smacking her torso “keep your child inside sister, they will ruin our plans” “But we can use them to lure children! Maybe they can even lure a boy~”
“silence Sarah” the oldest woman scoffed, turning and walking back towards the rackety shack near a pond. “sistars!”
“coming Winnie!” the slim one called back, hiking up her dress and running after the oldest.
“But Winnie! The child!” the plump one moaned, turning her eyes right at Harry.
Harry held his breath and ducked behind a tree, freezing as he heard the woman sniff the air and continue to walk closer to his hiding spot. Wait…shit! he walked right into the Sander-
“Auntie! It's just me!” Harry's jaw dropped as a child, who seemed just around his age, popped up from behind the tree in front of him, a small smile on their face “sorry, but there's no other kids around”
The plump woman groaned and shook her head, stomping back into the shack. “little brat, fooling me”
The child watched until the door closed, slumping against the tree in relief as they looked at him “you shouldn't be here, you don’t wanna know what happens when my mom and aunts get their hands on kids” they walked over to him and pulled at the lapels of his jacket, the hood of their cloak falling as they did so.
They beamed at him “but im not gonna let anything happen to ya don’t worry……sorry I don’t know your name?” they tilted their head at him, their bright (e/c) eyes staring into his.
“H-Harry” Harry stuttered out, gasping as the child grabbed his hand and started pulling him the opposite way of the old shack the old woman were in.
“Nice ta meet ya Harry im (y/n)!” (y/n) chirped, flipping their hood back over their head and continuing to lead Harry out of the forest.
Moments later they reached the edge and (y/n) turned, grabbing Harry's arms, spinning around, and pushing him over the edge “now you have ta promise that you won't come back no matter what, and to never follow random singing” (y/n) pouted at harry, wiggling their finger in his face “it's too dangerous”
“I-um” Harry stuttered again, wringing his hands together before he stomped his foot “they aren’t even tha’ scary! I can take ‘em”
(y/n) just shook their head “doesn’t matter, they’ll eat you if they get the chance”
“e-eat me?!” Harry squeaked, taking a step back from (y/n) “wait aren’t yeh one of their kids- won't yeh eat me too?”
“no!” (y/n) shook their head defiantly, scowling at Harry “that’s just gross, eating kids, Id rather eat rotten candy” (y/n) crossed their arms and tilted their head at Harry “what you think all witches eat kids?”
“well, they-” Harry swallowed harshly “ur mums a Sanderson ain't she? She's known for tha’ “
(y/n)s shoulders dropped “well I’m not my mother” Harry felt slightly bad as (y/n) curled in on themselves, looking off.
“hey-i….thank yeh fer savin’ meh” (y/n) perked up, smiling at him.
“you’re welcome Harry, now DON’T got back into the forest on Halloween night ever again” (y/n) once more shook their finger in his face, pouting at him.
Harry nodded slowly, placing his hand on theirs and pushing their hand down “why Halloween night only?”
“because that’s when they think they are most powerful, and the only time they are brave enough to wander outside the shack….aunt Winnie makes me go out to get food and all that every other time” (y/n) explained, eyes turning to the sky and gasping.
“you have to get home! It won't be long before my aunt gets another idea to get kids, go go!” (y/n) pushed at Harry's shoulders, back towards pirate bay.
“Alright alright im goin’!” Harry yelled, shaking his head at the odd witch, he turned to start walking back towards his dad's ship when he stopped. He spun back around, watching (y/n) walk back into the forest. “wait!” (y/n) groaned and stopped, spinning around to look at him with raised brows.
“what” they snapped, glaring at him.
“will I ever see yeh again?” Harry asked, blinking in surprise as (y/n)s cheeks turned dark and they looked down at the forest floor.
“um-i-maybe…I have to go!” (y/n) turned and ran back into the forest to her home, leaving Harry at the forest edge.

12 years later, on Halloween night, Harry sat in his temporary room at Evie's castle, sitting on his bed while Gil and Uma sorted through their first real batch of Halloween candy.
Most of it had been leftovers from Evie's trick or treaters, but Evie had made them chaperone Dizzy, Celia, and the twins for their first Halloween.
And the younger VKs had somehow roped them into Trick or treating with them, which luckily the people of Auradon were nice enough to ignore that they were technically too old to trick or treat.
Harry could recount Evie scoffing at the “Age limit”, saying that no one is too old to trick or treat.
“Gil hand me that orange one” Uma muttered, chewing on a Butterfinger.
“The Reese's?” Gil asked, holding up the flat packaging and handing it to Uma.
“yep, thanks…Harry you good?” Uma asked, noticing Harry staring out the window.
“hm?” Harry turned back to her, his eyes drooping “ah, sorry Uma, zoned out”
“well, it has been a tiring night….I'mma head in for tonight, night boys”
“night Uma” Harry and Gil called back in chorus, Gil leaving after Uma a moment later, leaving Harry alone in his room.
Come little children, I'll take thee away
Into a land of enchantment
Come little children, the time's come to play
Here in my garden of magic.
Harry perked up, he knew that song…..he definitely knew that song.
Though this time, the hypnotic power it had was present, taking hold of his mind and dragging him out of his room and out the door of Evie's castle.
Harry walked deeper into the forest surrounding Evie's castle, the voice becoming louder as he walked.
Suddenly he was grabbed, the cackling of three women echoing in his ears.
“oh, it’s a boy! Hes Handsome too~I want to play with him~!”
“later Sarah, first we must take him along with the others back to the cottage, he’ll be the first for your child, let them experience the dark art of Magic!”
“ohhh! Yes! Let em’ learn, let ‘em learn, let ‘em learn!”
Harry's vision went black, and he woke later in a chair, something invisible tying him down to it.
“wha’?” Harry muttered, pulling at his arm “where…shit” Harry tried to wriggle his wrist to draw the small switchblade in his jacket sleeve when the three Sanderson sisters walked in, holding two small children in their arms.
“ohhh hes awake!” the thin one, Sarah he guessed, gasped, clapping her hands together.
Harry let out a snarl and thrashed in his chair, the sisters gasped and reeled back. “nasty one isn’t he” the one with the odd lips, Winnie, muttered “perfect for our little imp isn’t he Mary”
“perfect Winnie” the plump one snickered, licking her lips as she separated from her sisters and dragged one of the children over a chair next to Harry, forcing the young girl down into it and snapping her fingers, silver rope wrapping around the girl's arms and legs and binding her to the chair “there we go!”
Sarah giggled and grabbed the boy she had by the scruff of his zombie costume and dragged him over to the chair on Harry's left, pushing him into the chair and binding him with the silver rope that turned invisible like Harrys.
“ohhhh (y/n)~” Harry perked up….he knew that name?
From the door on Harry's right, someone stepped out from the shadows, wearing a long dark pink jacket that tapered off at their waist, a corset type top with fishnet under top underneath it, ripped black jeans with scuffed brown boots, a belt with a pouch resting on their left hip that held two beakers resting on their left thigh.
“yes, aunt Winnie” the teen witch sighed, their hood hiding their face from Harry. Winnie grabbed an odd brown colored spell book with an eye on it and handed it to the hooded teen.
“here, finish the life potion while we go get more children, the…pirate boy is yours to do what you wish with” Winnie patted the teens head and turned “Sistars!” she stormed out of the cottage, the two witches running after their sister.
“coming Winnie!!”
The door slammed shut, the teen watching the door for a good minute before they sighed and dropped the book on the table to their right “thank hades” they tipped their head back, ruffling their (h/c) hair and blowing a raspberry “thought they’d never leave” they rushed over to a cabinet and ripped the doors open, rummaging through spices and herbs. “wormswart wormswart, where are you wormswart-ah-ha!”
They spun around, holding a jar of some sort of liquid and opening it, a hiss of silver mist rising from the bottle, they held the bottle delicately over the cauldron holding the boiling potion of life and poured a single drop of wormswart into the potion.
The potion turned a sickly brown, sputtering into the teen witches face. “ugh” they groaned, leaning back and wiping their face.
They grabbed a large spoon and mixed the potion, stirring until it turned back into a dark green. “there we go, now they can't use it” the teen muttered, looking up and locking eyes with Harry. “now to get you all out of here before they come back!”
With a wave of their hand, a silver pocket knife appeared, and they speed-walked over to Harry, cutting the invisible ropes at his hands. “im sorry about this, I tried to spell them to sleep until tomorrow at dawn but im not very good at potions other than ruining them”
“(y/n)?” Harry asked aloud, the teen stopped, slowly looking up at Harry, their still bright (e/c) eyes widening.
“Harry! What-“ they stood, leaning over Harry and shaking their finger in his face, “I told you not to follow the singing!”
Harry smirked at them and mocked bite their finger, (y/n) gasped and reeled back, pouting at him and smacking his chest. “jerk, im saving you from being eaten and yet you repay me like this?”
Harry chuckled and grabbed the knife from (y/n)s hand, cutting the rope from his legs “sorry love, couldn’t resist”
“l-love?” (y/n) stuttered, backing away from Harry and staring at him oddly.
Harry just looked at them, making their cheeks turn dark “you….you grew up” they muttered, looking away from Harry.
“heh” Harry chuckled, standing from the chair and looking to his right “we should probably get them outta here huh?”
“y-yeah” (y/n) stuttered, waving their hand and another silver knife appeared, walking over to the boy while Harry kneeled next to the girl and started to cut them free. “I’ll need to break the spell my mom put on them before we take them back, otherwise they’ll get their hands on them again.”
Harry nodded, picking up the girl dressed like a princess and setting her on his hip, her head resting in his neck.
(y/n) picked up the boy and walked over to harry, muttering a counterspell under their breath, and with a snap of their fingers, the two kids snapped out of their trance. The Girl leaning away from Harry and looking from him to (y/n), her eyes wide.
“where-whats” her lip wobbled, starting to cry a bit. the boy stared at Harry with wide eyes.
“you’re Harry Hook” the boy whispered in awe, squeaking a bit as (y/n) rearranged their grip on him.
“that's all dandy but we have to get you both back to your homes, the witches will be back soon and I need to be here when they are”
Harry nodded, pressing the girl's face back into his neck and following (y/n) out to the back door.
“come on, the main town is this way!”
=
Harry and (y/n) dropped the girl off, who told them her name of Sofia, and hurried her inside. “now don’t go after random singing on Halloween okay, it only leads to bad things” (y/n) warned them, handing the young girl a slip of paper with markings on it “as long as you have this, you will be protected from my mother's song” Sofia nodded, unsure but ran into her house, slamming the door behind her.
“alrigh’” Harry sighed, shifting Elijah in his arms and looked at the young boy “where do yeh live?”
Elijah pointed across the street and down a few houses “tha’ close huh?” Harry muttered, letting the boy down and watching him as he ran toward his home.
The boy stopped as (y/n) called his name, turning as they jogged over to him and handed him another piece of paper “thanks” Elijah squeaked, bolting into his house and slamming the door closed.
(y/n) sighed, rubbing their face in exhaustion “two down….however many kids to go” (y/n) rolled their neck and looked over at harry “now lets get you home too”
Harry stared at (y/n) as they walked up to him and held out their hands “I didn’t do this with the kids because I know they would freak but I can teleport us to where you live”
“yeh can teleport?” Harry asked, tilting his head as he stared at (y/n)s hands.
“yep, me, my mother, and my aunts each have a special power, my mom has a hypnotic singing voice, my aunt Mary can sniff out any kid from miles away, and my aunt Winnie can shoot lightning from her hands” Harry nodded slowly, grabbing onto (y/n)s hands.
“so what now?” Harry asked, watching as (f/c) smoke started to rise around him and (y/n)
“where do you live?” (y/n) chuckled, smiling at him.
“uh, im staying at Evie's castle right now”
“oh, I know where that is!” (y/n) cheered, the smoke swirling around them for a moment before it dissipated, revealing them now to be in front of Evie’s castle.
“cool” Harry muttered, not noticing (y/n) look down at their still intertwined hands and hurriedly ripped their hands away from him, Harry turned to (y/n), furrowing his brows as (y/n) looked around with wandering eyes “don’t go back” (y/n) whipped around to look at him with surprise.
“i-what?”
“don’t go back, stay here” Harry pleaded, grabbing onto (y/n)s shoulders “yer not happy there, and yer gonna waste away being their slave”
(y/n) just stared at him, sighing as they grabbed his hands and slowly took them off their shoulders “I…..I have to, to protect the kids”
Harry sighed, biting his lip in thought “okay….but!” (y/n) looked at harry, confusion swimming in their eyes “after tonight, come back here, im sure Evie would be happy to accommodate yeh, i’ll even ask for extra measure” (y/n) shook their head, looking over their shoulder back towards the witches cottage.
“…okay” (y/n) sighed, giggling as harry beamed at them and grabbed their shoulders in his excitement.
“Okay!?”
“okkayy! I'll come back tomorrow after my mom and aunts are asleep” Harry grinned at (y/n), chuckling as (y/n) smiled back.
“but….why do you want me to come back after tonight?” (y/n) asked, tilting their head at harry.
“because you saved meh from them 12 years ago…might as well return tha’ favor?” Harry smirked, snickering as (y/n)s cheeks darkened.
“well…I should get back now….see ya later?” (y/n) stepped away from Harry, (f/c) smoke rising around them. “see ya later” Harry confirmed, waving (y/n) goodbye as the smoke complexly enveloped them and they disappeared.
Harry sighed, cracking his neck and walking back inside Evie's castle, sneaking back up to his room and flopping on his bed, closing his eyes and falling asleep instantly from the crazy night.
=
Harry sighed in relief as the next morning, when Evie turned on the tv and the Auradon news came up, some breaking news came up about how the Sanderson sisters had been caught attempting their old antics with stealing the life force of children and had been arrested.
And the child of Sarah Sanderson had been confirmed secretly helping the children escaped, as claimed by the many children saved by the teen witch.
“aint (y/n) Sanderson that kid you met on the isle when you were like, 6? Harry?” Uma asked aloud, looking over her shoulder at Harry as he stuck another piece of pancakes in his mouth.
He swallowed and nodded, picking at his scrambled eggs “aye, and I….shoot, Evie I saw ‘em again last night, and might have told them if they wanted to they could come here?”
“that’s perfectly fine” Evie gushed, wiping her flour-covered hands on her apron “I have plenty of room for them here, and-wait you saw them? How?”
“uhhh” Harry stalled, watching as Uma set her fork down and stared at him with raised brows.
“you did a stupid didn’t you?” Uma droned, leaning on her intertwined hands.
“uhhh, yes?” Harry winched, yelping as Uma sent a torrent of water at him “hey! I was bewitched! It wasn’t meh fault!” Harry pouted, crossing his arms.
Everyone went silent as Evie's front door got knocked on, Evie glanced at Harry and took off her apron, tossing it onto the counter and walking over to her door, slowly opening it and peeking around the door.
“oh! You must be (y/n)! Harry told us about you!”
“r-really? He did?” the teen muttered, gasping as Evie grabbed their wrist and dragged them in.
“yep! Now! Are you hungry?” Evie pushed them into the living room that doubled as a dining room that connected to the kitchen, (y/n) stared at all the vks, locking eyes with Harry.
“i-yes?”
“Great! I'll make you up a plate and you get acquainted with everyone!”
Evie clapped her hands and skipped back into the kitchen, giggling with Mal as (y/n) just stood awkwardly where Evie left her.
“yeh kept yer promise” Harry smiled, standing up and walking over to (y/n), putting his hands on his hips and leaning towards (y/n)
“uhh yep” (y/n) chuckled, rubbing their arm nervously “Im here?”
Harry chuckled at their awkwardness and grabbed their shoulder, shoving them into the middle of the room, in view of everyone “(y/n) this is everyone, everyone this is (y/n), they have saved my ass twice now”
“hi” (y/n) waved awkwardly, a small grin on their face. Uma stood from her seat at the island and walked over to (y/n), slowly circling her like a vulture. “ummm hi?”
Uma hummed, standing in front of (y/n), her eyes dark and revealing nothing….then she smiled, reaching out and patting (y/n)s shoulder “nice to meet you (y/n)”
(y/n) gave a small smile, “nice to meet you too….Uma? right?”
Uma nodded and nodded her head back at the island near the kitchen, where Evie was setting (y/n)s plate full of pancakes, eggs, and bacon. “yep that’s me, and your foods ready”
(y/n) slowly walked over to their food, taking off their bag that was slung over their shoulder and setting it on the floor, hesitantly starting to eat the food Evie had given them.
Almost comically, their eyes widened and they started to scarf down the breakfast. Evie giggled and tapped on the counter, grabbing (y/n)s attention “apple or orange juice?”
“apple please” (y/n) spoke with a mouth full of food, blushing as Evie giggled once more and walked over to the fridge, grabbing the bottle.
She poured the drink and set it in front of (y/n) who gently took the cup and started to drink, turning towards the tv as it went back to the Sanderson sister's arrest.
*they will be stripped of their magic and be sent to the new high-security prison implemented on the isle of the doomed.*
