Daminette December 2023: 2-Framed
Bruce heard the door bell ring and looked at his watch.
'Right on time.'
He opened the door to see Commissioner James and Barbara Gordon. He had invited them over for Christmas Dinner. Out of the corner of his eye, Bruce spotted his granddaughter running towards them.
"We were framed!" Amaya shouted, "We were framed!"
Barbara began to laugh, "Did Jason teach you that?"
"No." Amaya answered, looking confused.
"I'll take a look in a moment." Bruce answered, guiding her away from the door.
She quickly ran away.
James Gordon chuckled, "Already teaching her to run away from the law, I see."
Bruce chuckled in response, "New family portrait was hung up today."
"Ah." James answered as he entered the manor.
Amaya ran through the kitchen.
"I was framed!" she shouted.
Jason picked her up, "That's right! Anyone who thinks otherwise, you tell me."
"The portrait." Bruce spoke.
Jason took note of the Gordon's in the doorway.
"That's what I meant." he replied.
Bruce just sighed.
Jason smiled, "Let's go see that frame, Kiddo."
Amaya ran past her grandfather and his guests. She quickly spotted another one of her uncles.
"I was framed!" she cried out to Dick.
"Jason!" he yelled out.
"The portrait, you Idiot!" Jason replied.
Amaya smiled, "Idiot!"
Dick smiled, "Good luck."
"Let's go see that frame." Jason stated, hoping to change the subject.
"I was framed!" Amaya cried out, again.
Jason made his way with Amaya towards the main parlor. The portrait was suppose to go over the fireplace mantle. Before they could enter the doorway, Marinette and Damian came down the stairs.
"Maman. Baba." Amaya shouted, "We were framed!"
"Oh!" Marinette spoke, "Is it up already?"
Amaya nodded, happily.
"Let's go see it, then." Damian commented.
Jason quickly took the opportunity to run out the front door. Damian looked on as his older brother ran.
'Why did he run? We're suppose to look at it as a family.'
"Yay!" his daughter shouted, " Let's go, Idiot!"
Damian turned to the door, but Marinette grabbed his arm.
"Later, Habibi." she smiled.
Damian smirked in return and picked up their daughter. When the three of them walked in, they found everyone else already there.
"Where's Jason?" Bruce questioned.
"Hiding." Damian stated.
"Why?" Barbara asked.
"Let's just say he taught Amaya a new word and decided to run before we found out, seconds later." Marinette answered.
Bruce sighed and began to reveal the painting, knowing Jason was still lurking around. He probably was outside looking in with a sniper scope he had in his leather jacket. He was just glad that Damian wasn't chasing after him, at the moment.
"I was framed!" Amaya shouted as the portrait revealed Bruce with his sons, Marinette and Amaya.
"Yes, you were." Damian spoke.
Marinette simply smiled at the painting of her family.

I really hope the show focused more on learning lessons from every episode rather than just focusing on the action and subplots that in the end, won't mean anything
Even though both marinette and adrien do a lot and i mean a LOT of dumb shit throughout the show i found myself excusing them cause they're still teens (ofc i dont excuse how the writers wrote marinette as being a creepy stalker and trying to play it off as a "joke").
Wouldn't it have been much better if the two main leads learned from their mistakes after each episode ends?
Adrien has been constantly neglected by his abusive father, so watching him lash out emotionally or not knowing how to handle the situation properly, i can see it being a little excused imo cause he barely got any attention or affection. The only one who was there for him is now gone and he's mostly stuck alone with his thoughts. He only sees his friends everyday he goes to school and thats pretty much it (unless gabe lets him out every once in a while).
The show would've been much better if Marinette had been the one to emotionally support him, show him whats right and wrong instead of having her constantly lash out at him for every tiny mistake.
The two could've talked about their problems and slowly built their relationship from there, it would've been a much better show tbh if it took that direction. I know Adrien gets a lot of hate for the things he does but i cant really blame him for it, he doesnt have anyone to guide him, his father is barely there for him and he doesnt open up to natalie at all, the writers could've used his love and admiration for ladybug as a way for him to open up to her and tell her whats going on with him.
Maybe she can even help him learn his powers better, when to use it and whats the important time for it to be used. I know all the fights they went through are different but at least he would know how to restrain his powers instead of sometimes using it without thinking and just bolting in straight towards the villain.
It truly makes me sad, the show had many directions to take but it chose to be generic and bland and most of all what turns me off from watching the other seasons is its predictability. we know that no matter what the two go through, in the end they'll get together and thats it.
I hope the movie is somehow different since thats all i can look for now, i really want the two main heroes to interact more with each other instead of fighting villains and arguing every two seconds; i watched the first ep of s5 out of curiosity and im glad that ladybug didnt really get upset at him, idk how their relationship has been in s5 since i really hold no interest in it anymore.
It's a wasted opportunity sadly, i might have to look for fanfics cause those are the only ones that make me feel connected to them both.
What are your thoughts however? (And if you have any fanfic recommendations then pls throw em my way. I rly dont know what to start with)
I don’t think the whole “learn a lesson in every episode” idea is a bad one, but the way it’s handled here doesn’t work because the lessons never mean anything. The characters never grow as people, so the lessons feel superfluous as a result.
Like you said, these episodes could have been used to better build up the bond between Marinette and Adrien, and in my opinion, it would have made that scene from “Multiplication” feel more meaningful, because that way, it would make sense that Adrien would thank Marinette for everything she’s done for him.
As for the movie, it’s entirely possible that the show could pull a Ninjago and take influence from what their movie did in the later seasons, or expand upon certain ideas brought up.

Okay okay hear me out!! Teen beach movie AU
Marinette’s dad had passed away when she was young and after a few years her mother followed. she was left in her grandmothers custody. Since she travel a lot she had settle down in a beach where she taugh Marinette about surfing and bikes.
Her Nona loved the movie “wet side story” a classic. Whenever she came to visit from traveling they would watch it even tho Marinette didn’t really get it.
She met Damian one summer and soon she became a family member of the Wayne’s. Chloes mom had made a deal with Marinette after her mother passed away about her going to the states and working under her as a designer.
Damian didn’t know about this. So when he saw style queen in front of him saying Marinette was leaving he didn’t know how to react. Marinette a little flustered Asking why she was there a day early much to her grandmother protest.
“Marinetta you can’t! This isn’t something you want! You want to be your own designer a name for yourself! Not a shadow!” Gina yelled but Marinette only sighed.
Audrey rolled her eyes telling Gina that this was the deal and that she had to listen.
“What does she mean by leaving?” Damian says clearly confused and frustrated that he doesn’t know what’s going on.
Marinette was going to respond but Audrey starts saying how unprofessional and dumb it is to surf and how Marinette has more opportunities and has the talent to do greater things. So she’s taking her to the states for her to continue a career other then playing around in a beach.
“Isn’t that right Marinette?” Marinette awkwardly agreed but tried to tell Audrey that the weather for tomorrow was the weather she was waiting for to surface and couldn’t let it pass. But Audrey tells her her new life begins tomorrow and that surfing will be only a distante memory.
Damian is upset to say the least and leaves. Marinette following behind and he yells at her why she wouldn’t tell him about leaving that he though she was happy. She explains she had tried for a few days but he was so happy and he was bonding with his Nona over the movie. (To her surprise since he hated movie musicals that didn’t make logic) must be Jason and dicks influence. That she didn’t know how or when to tell him.
Damian is asking her why she’s leaving and why she’s being forced to. But she tells him it’s her choice.
“Well then change your mind! This is where you live, we’re your Nona is! Where I am!”
Marinette is taken back but she mumbles how Audrey says this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and that it was hard to come by it that it could pave her future. He pressures to know what the deal she made was and she explains half of her highschool life would be there with her Nona and the rest would be with Audrey.
She tells Damian how her mother wanted to go to college but she had her and couldn’t so she feels like she has to cause she has the chances.
“What about us” Damian says and Marinette looks at him and says “their can’t be an us after today”
“I’ll wait for you! I’ll go with you”
“I know what it feels like to miss someone Damian. And I care to much about you to put you through that”
Damian is hurt and asks her what kind of logic is that. She’s cares so much about him to break up with him ?
She tells him she doesn’t want to but that she doesn’t have much of a choice. She thanks him for the love they share and walks away.
Now, the board glows and the next day Marinette is packed and ready to leave. When she sees the picture of her and damian and the family board. The surfboard her mother used.
She leaves Audrey a note that she is going to the completion and then they can leave After it’s over. Marinette grabs surfboard that has the signature flower she puts in all her clothing and goes to the competition.
Damian is upset with her still but his glad she showed up to the competition. His family is there cheering for her. Until the storm hit. The waves were harsh and big.
They hide and see the whole thing play out they are dancing and singing. And Damian comes to the conclusion they are in the movie Marinette pales even more and panics a bit.
When he saw she was so far off that she was struggling he rushed to safe her but she yelled she had to take that wave. They both are trapped underwater and flash of light happens. Last thing they hear is Damians family screaming their names from the shore.
Damian resurfaces and find the storm is gone and it’s sunny completely different from a moment ago. Damian looks around to see Marinette she’s pissed cause that was her one shot before she left.
They both swim to the shore and Damian hears the music. Confused he scans the area and it clicks. The place looks exactly like the movie his family forces him to watch everytime they went to the beach house. Marinette seem to follow the same thought when he sees her eyes turn to horrified expression.
What do you mean we are on a movie!? I though you were the logical one!
Damian “tt, there’s no other explanation unless were dead and somehow we are stuck in the movie Grayson and Todd engraved to my memory.”
Marinette looks at him and even tho she’s terrified says “you bonded with my Nona over the movie you enjoy it to some extent”
Damian rolled his eyes, “ I only like some aspects the movie is dumb but impressive for the time it was created”
Marinette started feeling scared again and looked at Damian asking what they’re supposed to do now he though about it for a moment before saying they should blend in. Marinette doesn’t want to do such thing she just wants to leave. But Damian is already in character and before she could react he splashed her with water.
They’re all saying their names and everything goes silent waiting for her
“Uh Im Marinette”
They continue with their music number Marinette doesn’t know what to do Damian seems to have memorized everything and blends in so well she started thinking he may be enjoying it. Though his eyes screamed murder and annoyance. But his smirk betrayed him. (Must be thinking how Jason and Dick would be jealous of him)
Everyone rushes in and the moment Marinette and adrien walk in they turn to look at them making Marinette flinch.
The surfers tell them that outsiders aren’t welcome and Damian wants to say something clearly offended at how they are looking at Marinette. But a motorcycle sound makes everyone scatter. Marinette pulls Damian into a corner and shush him.
Marinette remembers this number she would be lying that she didn’t enjoy it after all the outfits were cool. Damian smirks. And recaps the scene.
Pointing where everyone will be coming out of. However the movie takes a twist.
Damians eyes are widen at the sight.
Marinette smirks.
The rodents leader “butchy” is none other then Jason.
How this was possible they don’t know. But it’s clear it’s not the Jason they know he just looks like Jason.
To his side stood Kori and Roy. Marinette couldn’t help but smile they looked great.
A surfer speaks up and Marinette side eyes Damian to see his expression. There stands Tim is a blazer and next to him is Stephanie.
They all continue to argue and then they hear an excuse me. And they see Adrien go to the front and say “what?”
Jason snaps and MAR’i!? is now moving her Hips and turns the music on.
Damian is shook.
His whole family is there he scanning the room and finds everyone even his Aunt ! He sees Duke his in the surf side. Then theirs Cass she’s in the turf side. What had him surprised that Jason was the big brother of Mar’i. Before he could react Marinette says “I’m going in”
He screams what and she winks at him saying with a smug expression “what you said to blend in”
She jumps in and she’s now wearing leather. Singing with Mar’i
Damian goes in and sings a solo much to Marinette’s surprise
Oh..two can play this game
They start dancing
Marinette cuts Damian off and sings
one, two, one, two, three who who who’s riding with me. I got a gang full of bruisers all cruisin’ with me and were tearing up, we’re tearing up we’re tearing up the streets.
Damian tried to stop it really he did but it was to late she started playing a solo guitar with Jason.
When the number ended he looked at her and said “ you really couldn’t help yourself could you”
“I really enjoyed this number okay I always wanted to recreate it”
I’m not sure if I should do a part 2
@loveswifi you inspired this with one of your stories can’t recall which one but it was Damian and Marinette stuck (trapped) somewhere together.

Misconceptions, Miscommunication, and Misinformation Pt74
Inspired by @ozmav Maribat AU
AO3   Beginning   Previous    Next
Chloe watched the great Bruce Wayne walk away in a bit of a daze with an amused smile on her face. She wondered how long it would take him to process what happened. The ping pong effect between Mari’s wide eyed innocent sweetness and Chloe’s obnoxious snobbery had an extremely high success rate, as long as they didn’t try to use it on Sabine. That had been a nightmare the one time they’d attempted it.
“That was impressive. Remind me to call you if I ever need anything from him no questions asked.” She heard Marinette giggle behind her and turned her attention to Barbara Gordon. Chloe had mixed feelings about the woman but couldn’t figure out why. It felt sort of like when she’d been jealous of Marinette when they were little, but that didn’t make any sense.
“We’d be happy to help, if for no other reason than to keep sharp.” Chloe just rolled her eyes at Mari's words. Like she could ever not be sharp.
“And it’s fun to mess with one of the most powerful men in the world. Granted I’m not sure anything will top the Superman incident.” They all laughed but Chloe could tell her’s was forced. Judging by the way Mari’s hold tightened she heard it too. She really needed to pull herself together.
“Yes, I have to say that was a treat to watch. You might have to put him in his place again, especially if you show up in a wheelchair. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this approach though.” She gestured to the two of them and Chloe felt her hackles rise. How dare she… Mari tightened her hold again and Chloe realized she was glaring.
“Well, Tikki couldn’t heal me, but when I’m transformed she can make up for the connections that were lost so I’ll be able to walk. I’m sure it’s better that way given how some of the Justice League already views us. But when I’m not transformed this is definitely my preferred mode of transportation.” Chloe actually had to stop herself from purring at that statement. There were certain times she really hated Plagg’s influence. Then again, Marinette thought it was cute so…
“Hmm, that will certainly make things less complicated. Much as I hate to say it, some of the members are rather… set in their ways.” Chloe let out a derisive snort.
“They’re assholes.” She felt more than heard Marinette’s hum of agreement. Barbara just shrugged her assent.
“So how are you adjusting?” They started talking about the little bit Marinette had noticed so far and Barbara was telling her about her own experiences and what she could expect. Chloe listened trying to figure out what she’d be able to do to help and make Mari’s transition easier. The fact that she was so positive was good and bad. It meant she’d be less likely to fall into a depression, but it also meant she was very good at hiding how she felt around other people. She’d have to be more vigilant than normal for a while to make sure Mari didn’t try to take on too much by herself.
“For now I’ll probably be staying at the hotel with Chloe until we figure everything out. There’s really no way the bakery can be made accessible. I mean, my room is accessed by a trap door and my bed is a loft so obviously that won’t work. I’m just glad that it shouldn’t affect my designing too much. There will be a few things that will be harder, and I may need to have someone else take measurements for me but for the most part I don’t need my legs.” Yep, there was that disturbingly persistent positivity.
“Design?” Chloe eyed Diana Prince warily as she walked up to them. She hadn’t been at the first meeting but Plagg had filled her in in detail. Even knowing that she’d taken their side and Mari didn’t hold a grudge, she was still cautious.
“Yes, Marinette just revealed herself to the public as the designer behind Functional Fashion. She’s incredibly talented.” Chloe could hear her default haughty tone but decided to ignore it. Marinette was a big deal and deserved to be treated as such, and it was her job to make sure that happened.
“Yes, I think I remember hearing about that. Didn’t the Queen of Fashion basically do a hit article on you?” Chloe winced at the reminder. Her mother had been extremely vindictive. As good as standing up to her had felt she had to wonder if it was worth the cost.
“Yes well, my mother doesn’t take well to people who turn her down. Luckily Marinette isn’t in the world of high fashion at the moment.” She still felt guilty about it though. Because of her Marinette might never have the option to be in that world.
“Your mother is the Queen of Fashion and she trashed your girlfriends reputation in the industry? Wow, that’s….” Barbara seemed at a loss.
“That’s my mother.” Her tone was flat and she felt Mari lean even further into her back. It was so nice to have someone she could really talk to about it. Even though her girlfriend hated her mother, she never told Chloe how she should feel. Diana cleared her throat.
“Well I do have an ulterior motive for being here to meet you. My mother would like to extend an invitation to you both to visit Themyscira, whenever you’re free to do so. She’s really looking forward to speaking with the new Miraculous holders.” Chloe could only blink at her for a moment, when she looked to Marinette her face was blank as well. How were you supposed to respond to something like that? Mari shook herself out of her stupor.
“That’s an amazing honor. We’ll have to talk it over and find a time but we’d love to go.” Chloe nodded at Mari’s questioning look. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and she’d be going with the most important person in her life, of course she wanted to do it.

❤️👀👍💜🤳 Adrien and Marinette bc I'm predictable
Ahhh! Thanks for sending me one! And omg, these are my 2 favs, so I am glad you asked 😘
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adrien: I love you, buginette ❤ can't wait to see you later tonight! Im wearing those ladybug boxers you love so much... ;)
"Oooh, who you texting, girl?" Alya asked, a teasing lilt to her tone.
"W-What?! Ohhhh, it's just my... dad! He, uh, wanted to ask if I was going to visit this weekend. Yeah. Which, I probably will!" Marinette fibbed, holding her phone to her chest as she tried to hide the suggestive text she had just received. Marinette shared a lot with Alya, but these types of texts were for her eyes only.
Alya gave her a smug and knowing smile, one that showed she didn't believe her best girlfriend one little bit.
"Uh huh, then you won't mind if I see it," she responded, an evil smirk taking over.
Alya pounced on Marinette, pinning her to the sofa. Marinette struggled desperately, a vice grip on her phone as she hugged it tightly to her chest.
Alya, being clever, chose to tickle the poor girl. Marinette squealed and did her best to resist and retain her hold on the phone, but it was to no avail. Alya relentlessly tickled to the point Marinette couldn't breath and had tears coming out of her eyes.
Alya took the opportunity and snatched the phone, reading the sext Adrien had sent.
"Girlllll, damn, sounds like you're gonna get some tonight!" she laughed, pride shining in her eyes. "I always knew you guys were sexting despite the innocent act. Hey, c'mon, let's send him a sexy selfie of you, so he can get even more excited to see you."
"Alyaaaa," Marinette whined, still slightly out of breath.
Alya rolled her eyes and shoved the phone in Marinette's hands.
"Since I know your self-conscious, I'll let you take the pic while I step into the kitchen for some snacks. But I'll be checking to make sure you've taken the photo when I get back!" Alya whirled out of the room like the storm she was.
Marinette breathed a heavy sigh, knowing she had to do it to avoid facing Alya. She took a quick selfie with her shirt hanging low on her shoulders and a peek of her Chat Noir themed bra showing.
Marinette: i love you and can't wait to see you tonight as well, mon minou 💜 here's a pic to hold you over until you see me! ;)
With that, Marinette sent the photo along. She took another slightly less sexy pic and sent it to Alya to satisfy her best friend.
She wanted the other pic to be for Adrien's eyes only.
(And boy did he appreciate the photo!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aaaand that turned out longer than planned and was more Alya than Adrien sorry! 😅 (And was more difficult than expected!) Still, I hope it was okay and thanks for sending me an ask 😊 As you may know, I love your "this love is a tangled web" series on AO3 so I was excited you followed me and even sent me an ask 🙈 So thank you!!! ❤
This is the 5 emojis and 2 characters game by @emsylcatac! Thanks for playing! ❤😘😅😊🙈

optimus fine - marichat and adrienette fic
this could be seen as romantic or like the fine line between friends and crushes but either way it’s funny lol.
summary:  marinette is sick of chat noir's relentless flirting, so she decides to give him a taste of his own medicine. adrien doesn't know how to act around marinette anymore.
word count: 1297
“ha! and i still have time for lunch, papillon is getting slow.” marinette bragged as she leaned against the alley wall, plucking leaves out of her fringe and dusting dirt from her cheek.
it had been one of their tamest villains yet, it took no longer than a half hour to defeat and chat noir didn't even have to use his cataclysm. it was the usual suspect of kids being kids, and papillon taking full advantage of their often sporadic and unreasonable mood changes. but as they say, easy come easy go, they were the easiest to deakumatise.
a giggle chimed from marinette’s bag and she saw tikki already halfway through a cookie, “or you and chat noir are just getting better!”
marinette chuckled in response and used her index finger to gently scratch tikki’s head, “that silly kitty may be getting stronger, but his pick up lines are definitely getting weaker. did you hear the one he used today?”
she stretched an arm out and raised her chin as if she were about to recite a poem, “ladybug...” she furrowed her brow and clenched her fist dramatically, “...if you were a transformer, you’d be optimus fine!”
marinette’s composure broke as soon as she uttered the phrase and brought her arms around her waist as she fell into a fit of laughter, “whatever am i going to do with him?”.
peeking her head out of the alley marinette noticed no civilians had returned to the park the fight had taken place in, giving her a great opportunity to slip away unnoticed. which she almost did until a black figure dropped down in front of her.
marinette shrieked in surprise and flung herself backwards, tripping over her feet and tumbling to the ground. “ow!”
“hey mari- uh,,, mademoiselle! are you okay?” the voice above her asked as two leather clad hands (paws?) immediately pulled her back up.
“chat noir?” marinette mumbled, blue eyes blinking up at his green.
a smug smirk stretched across pointed teeth, before the cat took a step back and bowed, still holding onto one of marinette’s wrists, “the one and only. there’s no need to be frightened anymore little lady, danger is all gone.”
marinette blinked in shock a few more times before a glint of mischief crossed her expression. she slipped her hand into chat’s and placed the other one against his chest.
“oh, i'm so glad! i was so scared, but when i saw you and ladybug fly in i just knew everything was going to be ok.”
she could practically feel his chest swell at the compliment. he threw his head to side nonchalantly and smirked.
“yeah well, nothing papillon could conjure up could ever be a match against the chat.” he flexed the arm marinette wasn't holding.
marinette had to suppress a chuckle as she watched chat show himself off like a trophy, she slipped back into character when he made eye contact with her again.
“of course, you're so strong,,,” the hand that was spread on his chest lifted until she was just trailing her index finger along the muscular lines prominent through the suit.
chat’s smooth expression faltered slightly at the action.
“papillon wouldn't stand a chance against this.” marinette looked up at him through her lashes, feeling triumph well in her chest as she noticed the colour of his cheeks begin to turn pink. she decided to take it one step further by pushing her body flush against his.
“you’re our hero” she whispered into his ear. the hand that was previously on his chest slithered up to the nape of his hair.
chat’s face had now turned completely red, and his mouth opened and closed as he tried to find the words. his cocky attitude had melted away, leaving him stammering and stuttering. as a final blow marinette pressed a long kiss to the corner of his mouth, before slipping out of his grasp.
“see you, chaton.” she flicked the bell on his collar before turning her back to him and strutting in the opposite direction.
marinette couldn’t keep the smirk off her face as she imprinted the image of chat noir flustered and speechless into her mind. ah, yes. she was going to enjoy thinking about that the next time he dropped another ridiculous pick up line on her.
once they were out of earshot, tikki peeked her head out of marinette’s purse, “what was that all about?”
“i wanted him to know how it feels to be on the receiving end of relentless flirting for once. who knows, it might just humble him a little” marinette shrugged.
“nothing could humble chat noir.” the kwami quipped.
they both giggled as they made their way back to the school, after all no amount of akumas could stop ms mendeleiev and her incredibly boring chemistry lessons.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
class had already been in session for 20 minutes before adrien walked in, muttering a quick apology and scampering to his seat. marinette saw his flustered face and smiled sympathetically, understanding all too well the feeling of walking into class late. but rather than responding with his usual kind smile, his eyes shot down and the colour in his face deepened.
confusion and a twinge of hurt filled marinette’s chest as adrien turned his back to her immediately and sat down. but ms mendeleiev had already begun talking again, so she decided not to push it yet.
every now and then as the class dragged on, marinette could swear she saw adrien looking at her out of the corner of his eye, but would quickly avert his gaze when marinette caught him.
by the time the final bell rang, marinette felt like she had grown another head. she had periodically throughout the class run her fingers over her face, looking for any reason as to why adrien might be staring at her but found none.
she placed a hand on his shoulder as she noticed him throw his things in his bag and try to get up the second he heard the bell.
“adrien, is everything okay?” marinette’s usual nervousness was replaced by both concern for adrien and self consciousness, leaving her usual stuttering and blushing behind.
in fact, this time it was adrien doing the stuttering and blushing.
“marinette! yeah,,, im uh- im great! you are how? i mean! how are you?” adrien spluttered, cheeks turning rosy again.
marinette’s eyebrows knitted together as he stumbled over his words, “i’m fine,,, it’s just you’ve been looking at me weirdly, is there something on my face?”
“no! your face is beautiful!” his eyes shot open, “i mean your face is fine! not that your face isn’t beautiful but there’s,,,, there’s nothing on your face.”
even more confused than before, and a little embarrassed, marinette dropped her hand from his shoulder, “okay…”
“i should probably- probably go because i have,,, chinese! my bodyguard will be waiting! see you,,, see you soon marinette!”
before marinette could reply, he shot out of the classroom. marinette turned to alya, who had watched the whole interaction with a questioning look. alya shot an equally confused one back and shrugged her shoulders.
“isn’t that usually the other way around?”
marinette shook her head and sighed, “i honestly preferred when we were at the ‘just friends’ stage, now he looks like he’s afraid of me.”
alya elbowed marinette gently in the side, “or he’s majorly crushing on you.”
marinette nudged her back, “nah. i’ve only ever been a flailing, clumsy mess around him. why would he be attracted to a girl who can’t even form a coherent sentence around him? never mind flirting with him!”
“don’t worry about it girl, one day i bet you could even reach two coherent sentences around him!”
marinette giggled in response, “wishful thinking.”

Stormy weather 2
I've just been watching Stormy weather 2 and now I really have to get my opinion out, I'm genuinely angry. This. THIS is what you all are so pissy about? Are you all kidding me??
That was a more than solid recap episode, summarizing all the changes of the past seasons, wrapping it up and forshadow and set up the new ones. I literally can't with this Fandom anymore JESUS GIVE ME STRENGTH yall are blinder as you pretend Adrien is! Playing high and mighty and complain about the writing when, it's seems like, 90% of this Fandom wouldn't recognize appropriate writing FOR A SHOW WITH A STRUCTURE LIKE THIS when it would hit you in the face! I really didn't wanted to be like this and thought about just saying nothing but then I watch the actual episode and you all are so obliviously and aggressively HATEFUL against this show rn I freaking CAN'T anymore!
"we did see the fight with stormy weather!" We didn't NEED to see the fight because this wasn't a normal akuma-fighting-episode. You wanna see them fighting against her? Watch the first SW episode, that episode was about her and dealing with her. THIS episode rightfully kept its priorities somewhere else, the characters and their recaps! (PLUS the reason they chose Stormy weather is because the first one was the pilot for the entire show, it's only fitting to use her for the recap) Besides in the last part of the fight we were in the pov of the citizens, we were supposed to see the fights for once with their eyes! They were scared, confused and glued on their tvs and phones to follow the news to at least understand a little bit what's going on! You complain about not seeing the fight? Oh well my dearies THAT WAS THE POINT! The citizens never get to see what we see and in an episode where the fight is literally just an afterthought, it was the perfect opportunity to show us that side of reality.
"the episode was mostly scene from other episodes?" And how is that a problem with A RECAP EPISODE? Just because old scenes were reused doesn't it automatically make the episode bad. Just the fact that some of you think that way makes me rip my hair out in frustration! Yes alot of old scenes were used again, but it was done so the characters could give us their thoughts and opinions on them WHILE giving the happening and purpose of the scenes in the first place a conclusion and wrapping them up for what's to come. "the scenes went on too long!" well I personally disagree that it got too much, but here at least I can understand possible complaints. There certainly were scenes (like the CN and LB glaciator scene) that could have been cut down a little (but really not too much) but once again, I didn't mind. Because I figured that these scenes were chosen for a reason, so casual viewers and kids need all the informations given in them, so yeah I DIDN'T MIND
"they undid all of Chloes character development!" No they didn't, because the show never pretended like Chloe suddenly turned into a better person after being a jerk and bully for so long. Everything the show did up to this point was showing us that Chloe IS capable of changing and that she'll eventually grow into her better self and a hero in time, with patience and the right motivation. We are in season 3 of 6, why are you all expecting the show to unrealistically rush this redemption? We. Have. TIME! "This only proves that Chloe shouldn't have gotten the miraculous!" not right but not exactly wrong either. It proves that Chloe rn shouldn't be giving the miraculous for good or in normal fights that don't involve her parents because she isn't worthy of it yet. That is why the episode makes a point by showing us LB and CN not reacting to Chloes "queen bee signal" while at the same time showing us that Chloe might think she deserves to be a part of this already but everything she has done in recent past and even THIS EPISODE tells us the complete opposite. Still I understand complaints that Chloe shouldn't be the bee miraculous holder in general but I understand the two times she was Queen Bee (one was against her father so yeah makes sense and the other time was in the heros day finale where Hawkmoth literally was on the loose alongside 10.000 other akuma villains with no end in sight. I can understand the logic of giving it to her again since a fight like that certainly doesn't need a totally inexperienced hero in there and Chloe at least knows how the powers work so yeah 2.0) and the overall idea of what her character is supposed to represent in the end. Chloes character is there to show that even a rotten bully child is eventually capable of redemption and becoming a good person and hero. That is a valid and important topic in a kids/family show. I think alot of people often forget that this show is not only there to tell a "lovey dopey everything gone bad can be resolved and learned in 20 minutes go lucky story" this show and its characters are literally there to help and guide children/the viewers (I'm 20 and Adrien helps me ALOT to deal with my family issues honestly). Believe it or not children/people like Chloe exist and so do the people who have to deal with them. And it helps them NOTHING when they make Chloe a "look at what a horrible person she has been for YEARS but oh would you look at that! Now she did a couple of good things, obviously that means that she left most of her horrible ways in the past and we don't have to worry about her relapseing again, she's only getting better now" character. Honestly that helps nobody because real life people don't behave and change like that. The way they are doing it rn is very good, because this way we can see the transition between villain/bully Chloe to good/redeemed hero and friend Chloe in alot of varieties and steps to make her character more fleshed out and relatable to the audience so they actually understand the complexity of a person/situation like that and that she IS indeed worthy of redemption after everything she has done (keep in mind, she's 14! She may have done horrible horrible stuff but a 14 year old CHILD should ALWAYS be allowed to change and redeem herself).
Okay last one now since it's already half past fuck in the morning.
"Adrien is a stupid idiot for dismissing/not realizing it was Marinettes poem and they are only unnecessarily stretching the love confession out" okay first of all, Adrien DID figure out it was Marinettes poem. He no shit acknowledged that and I have no idea how yall missed that. Second of all, Marinettes love confession/feelings for him are a BIG part of the structure and overall plot of the show and it will continue to be that way (same for CN and LB), so yeah of course they are stretching it what are you expecting here? Besides, SW2 is an episode that is written to watchable everywhere in season 3, so if you actually expected from the end scene to end any other way than the writing is not the problem here. It's more than logical and obvious at this point that they cant/wouldn't do the actual step of Marinettes actually and REALLY confessing her love to him(that's a move for like the season 4 finale). But still they got us further in the plot. Adrien acknowledged the possibility but dismissed it for obvious reasons I'm getting to in a bit. Still, the step of him connecting the dots was there, stop pretending like it wasn't. Yes its stretches the whole confession thing and I KNOW that's not what yall impatient shippers wanna see, but that doesn't change the fact that the "dismissing" step is a valid and by God more than enough forshadowed step for this show to take (plus do you all actually think it's an appropriate way for the show to let Adrien find out about Marinettes love for him FOR GOOD in Form of a letter and an old poem? Gosh people Marinette deserves better than that. I'm proud of her for how far she has come but this plot arc of hers deserves a better solution than THIS). And last but not least, third of all. Adrien had solid reasons to dismiss the idea of Marinettes being in love with him, yall just pretend like literally 95% all the shows plot doesn't exists because it doesn't play out the way you want or isn't BAM IN YOUR FACE. The whole "and there is Luka" thing is not coming out of nowhere yknow? Adrien saw that Marinette showed interest in Luka and Luka in her in "frozer" plus the episode gave us a flashback of "troublemaker" where Marinette literally SAYS TO HIM no I'm not into you, I'm into fashion. I like you/I'm interested in you BUT NOT LIKE THAT! Honestly, if a friend of mine said that to me and showed interest in someone else I also would tend to dismiss the option of them being in love with me. PLUS, same as with Chloe Adriens character is actually supposed to HELP children/the viewer in simular situations as them. And the way some of you react to Adrien it tells me that you have a better home situation as him (which im REALLY glad about believe me) still you all gotta accept that children with bad parent/s like Adrien exists and they NEED to see themselves represented and dealt with. Gabriel is a horribly neglectful and distant parent and THIS can fuck up a child self worth and self esteem REEEEAL GOOD believe me. Chances are not low that Adrien couldn't believe That anybody could actually be in love with him, and even if, they would totally only be in love with the "perfect Adrien" he has to be in public. The show certainly showed us enough of Adriens insecurities, self esteem issues and inferior complex to make this an possible option. Never forget that these characters are made the way they are to help and tell/teach something to the audience even if sometimes the character or the lesson provided and learned or helped with IS NOT FOR YOU. Adriens whole character helps me personally IMMENSELY but I still see him being dismissed left and right in the Fandom. Same way with Alya for example for me, she and her arc are not made for me, still I respect her presence and importants in the show.
Okay, I'm gonna make a cut here now cuz its REALLY late now but this was worth it.

44: “I still remember the way you taste.” (for marichat...I was going to ask for something tamer although you still could make this tame, but then my marichat trash loving soul saw this and im sorry)
Sorry it’s still kinda tame. This is the SFW blog after all.
50 Dialogue Prompts
She stared in disbelief at the silhouette outlined at herskylight. There was no denying the cat ears against the moonlight outside that toldher exactly who was hovering over her bed at ten at night, no matter how muchshe wanted to. She wasn’t ready for this yet, she still hadn’t gotten over theembarrassment she absolutely refused to admit to from last time he’d been here.
Sighing in resignation, she raised herself to a standing positionon her mattress, reaching up to unlatch the window so he could come inside, aninvitation he took immediately. Shivering, she closed the window again beforereturning to her bed and pulling the covers over herself to warm up.
“What is it Chat Noir?” she asked, hoping against all hopehe wouldn’t bring up the elephant in the room.
“I need to talk to you about what happened last time,” heblurted, no preamble of any kind but a fierce blush adorning his face beneathhis mask.
She groaned loudly. This is exactly what she’d been afraidof. She didn’t want their friendship to be weird now just because she’dproposed a stupid agreement she should have remained too flustered to everbring up with him.
Chat had been visiting her for a few months now, ever since theyhad both admitted they were heartbroken by their crushes just before Glaciator. As a result, they often spoke about their crushes – Chat openly and Marinette withonly a thread more secrecy. She often told him plenty that he could easily useto work out who she liked if he wanted to, but she deliberately left Adrien’sname out of the equation for fear he would think her love some kind of fanaticcelebrity attraction.
Talk of specific crushes had quickly morphed into previouscrushes, how crushes and relationships were portrayed on TV and -eventually-any experience, or lack thereof, the two had. She’d been quietly surprised tofind out that Chat’s first kiss had been when she had tried to break him freeof Dark Cupid’s control. It was a kiss she didn’t count herself due to thecircumstances, but Chat had seemed far more upset by something else.
“What if I wasn’t any good at kissing?” he had asked her, “Whatif she’s home right now, laughing at me?”
She had raised her eyebrows at him in amused disbelief. “Iseriously doubt that. Besides, weren’t you trying to kill her? I’m sure anykissing -good or bad- was not considered as your actual skill level.”
“I guess,” he had said, a slight whine to his voice, “I justwish I could remember so I knew for sure. Or that I had the guts to ask herabout it. I’m just worried that…nah it’s stupid.”
“No stupider than the rest of this conversation. Go on.”
“I’m worried that when I next get the opportunity to kisssomeone I like, whether it’s her or someone else-”
“Thinking realistically, I see,” she smirked.
“Ha-ha. I just don’t want to be bad at it. I wish there wasa way to practice without actually jeopardising anything with someone, youknow?”
She had been an idiot to suggest it really. It was a recipefor disaster, that was clear for anyone to see. But she could hardly tell himthe kiss hadn’t been all that bad and this way she could make him feel betterwithout risking her identity or his feelings.
It was meant to be one kiss. Just a single kiss she couldtell him was good and move on from, but he’d wanted real feedback and kissingwasn’t something she was familiar with either, so she’d been unsure what totell him. One kiss had turned into two as they tried to decide what worked foreach other and explain it and then three as they adapted, and four…
It had been well over two hours since their first awkwardpress of lips when they realised they had pushed forward into using tongue, bodies pressed against each other on her bed, hands buried in hair.
There had been an uncomfortable extraction of limbs and Chathad left far more embarrassed looking than she felt, a feat of its own.
“I thought we agreed it was stupid and that we never shouldhave done it,” she told him, her mind returning to the present moment and the super-poweredteenage boy kneeling in front of her.
“We said that. I dunno if we really agreed though,” he said, his eyes boring into hers before dropping to her lips hungrily. “I stillremember the way you taste, you know. It was so much better than anything Icould have ever imagined.”
She squeaked in response, his gaze intense enough that itwould be frightening on anyone else. But somehow, the fact that he was Chatcompletely negated the rest of it. The way he was in her room, on her bed, lateat night and admitting that he wanted to kiss her never made her fear for hersafety once.
He continued to speak from his place on her mattress, neverintruding further into her space as he watched her. “I’m glad you suggestedwhat you did. I might never have realised that I liked you otherwise-” -shegasped at his blatant admission- “-and…and it doesn’t matter how you feel. Ithink I just needed to realise it. Regardless of how things work out.”
They stared at one another in silence for a moment andMarinette watched his face slip from focused to passive and finally worried atthe continued silence.
“Although, I really would like to know how you feel anyway,”he said with a slight edge in his voice.
“I like someone else as well,” she told him.
“So do I,” he said, his eyes lighting up with hope at her chosenwords.
“What if Ladybug changes her mind and suddenly likes you?”she asked, suspicion evident in her expression.
“Then she’ll have to deal with the fact that I like someone else for a change.”
Her eyes moved around the room for a moment, unsure of herown heart before she finally sent a nervous smile in his direction. “Then getover here and kiss m-”
She had barely voiced her request when he obeyed grinningthe entire time.

back from the dead at last with chapter 27!! did ya miss me? @gigiree @luvclick @megatraven
holy hot dang it’s been a hot minute hasn’t it? i stopped updating mid-marching season which was like in october so like lemme just say. im sorry. since then school has kicked me in the ass with a bunch stress regarding the future and i was like. well. gotta spend my time not writing oops and here we are. in the ripe of march in a new year
i gotta say this chapter is relatively normal and i considered making it a monster of a chapter to make up for the time i’ve been gone but then that would just ruin the rhythm of the lengths of chapters and stuff and also i reached a good end so like?? bear with me i know you all probably thought i abandoned this but!! i love it!! i just can’t wait until we get to the juicy bits of angst that will be happening i promise
but anyway hi hello i’m back and i’m not gonna go on an unplanned five month hiatus ever again
Read from the beginning/where it’s originally posted here
Story description: They say curiosity killed the cat. But it can do a whole lot more than that. [In which Marinette falls into an unfamiliar place with strange inhabitants]
Chapter description: Marinette and Chat take a breather at Nathaneal’s house. There’s a lot of art involved because Nathaneal is a ghost with talent.
Rated: T (because there’s some violence that may not be suited for some audiences... injuries from the last chapter and scab mentions in this chapter btw)
“Oh,” Nathaneal said, seeming to drift away a little. “I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
“Wait!” Marinette called, forgetting for a moment that she had an extra hole in her body as she broke away from Chat. Immediately after leaving his support, the both of them collapsed, sending a wave of water to flick gently at Nathaneal’s feet, which floated an inch or so above the surface.
“I just keep making it worse,” Nathaneal whimpered, wincing a little. “I just thought I heard your voice, but…” He trailed off, looking back in the direction he came. “I should probably just go.”
“Please don’t,” Marinette said, trying her best to stand. “You didn’t do anything wrong; I promise.” Nathaneal was the first real friend Marinette had made in the Underground, and she wasn’t eager to see him leave so soon again.
Nathaneal chewed on his lip, looking away from Marinette and seeming to notice Chat for the first time. “Oh, hey, Chat. I didn’t know you were here.”
“Glad to know my presence isn’t as domineering as I thought it was,” Chat grunted, clutching his side and offering a grimace to Marinette when she shot a glare back at him. “What, so you’re allowed to make snide comments when you’re near death, but I’m not?”
“No one’s near death, idiot,” she hissed. “And I don’t do that.”
“Yeah. Sure.”
Blood loss was making Marinette a bit dizzy, which she figured was probably not good. Nathaneal cocked his head at her, noting the way she glared down at the water in an attempt to regain a bit of focus. “Are you two injured?” he asked after a moment, looking over at Chat, who was also looking a bit dazed.
“Only a little bit,” Marinette said, finally gaining enough focus and strength to stand and help Chat struggle to his feet. “We’ll be fine if we get some rest and food, though.”
“Well…” Nathaneal looked back in the direction he came once more. “Maybe I could help with that.”
As it turns out, Nathaneal lived in a somewhat slouching house in Waterfall. He led Chat and Marinette, still leaning heavily on one another, to his house, careful to float slowly so that the both of them could keep up.
“Nino called and said that the two of you would be passing through,” Nathaneal rambled, patting his pockets for the key to his front door. Marinette wondered why he needed a key when he was a ghost. “I figured I should keep an eye out, but I didn’t notice you guys were already here.” He pulled out a ghostly key and stuck it into the keyhole. It didn’t seem to do anything. The door creaked open.
“I’m a ghost, so any food I have probably won’t help you guys,” he said, shrugging a little. He floated into his house, leading them to a living room-like area with what seemed to be two over-stuffed dog beds in the place of a couch. There was no coffee table. “But I can offer you a place to rest.”
“This is wonderful, Nathaneal,” Marinette said, somewhat collapsing on one of the dog beds and dragging Chat along with her. “Thank you.”
Chat let out a soft groan, looking down at the hole in his side and glancing at the amount of blood that had coated his glove. “I’m sorry if we stain anything,” he said weakly, trying for a smile.
“I-I could go to one of the shops and get you guys some proper akuma food,” Nathaneal offered, glancing worriedly between the two.
“We have some,” Marinette said, shifting her weight more to her uninjured leg and pulling out her yo-yo. “But thank you.”
He didn’t seem satisfied until Chat and Marinette had split a bicicle in half and eaten their respective pieces. The burning pain on Marinette’s leg dulled to an ache, and she saw that the hole that had looked in on bare muscle and torn skin had healed to a large, but less scary looking, scab. She looked over at Chat, and saw that the same was true for him, except his scab didn’t look as fully healed as Marinette’s. She frowned.
Nathaneal seemed to be placated for the moment, though, so he drifted away from them. “Now that you aren’t in danger of becoming, well, something like me, I think I should leave you alone to rest,” he said somewhat timidly. Though he seemed to be gaining confidence in himself and how he spoke the longer they stayed in his house.
He drifted up the stairs before either Marinette or Chat could say anything else.
Marinette turned to Chat. “Why isn’t yours healed like mine?” she asked, pouncing on him the moment Nathaneal was out of sight.
“Seems like my initial wound was worse,” he said, pulling a handkerchief out of one of his many zipper pockets and wiping his bloodied hands off. “But it doesn’t matter. It feels fine.”
“Liar,” Marinette said. Chat gave a little shrug. “I’ve got a unicicle left and that Nice Cream that Stormy gave us back in Snowdin,” she said, rooting around in her Miraculous.
Chat shook his head firmly. “Save that for yourself. One solid cat nap and I’ll be good as new,” he said, putting his hands over Marinette’s and making her close the storage compartment. “No good to waste that kind of stuff on me.”
“It’s not wasting if I want to do it.”
Chat gave her a look, and she put the Miraculous away with a sigh. “Fine. But the next time we have the opportunity to stop for food, I’m getting something specifically for you.”
“Looking forward to it,” Chat replied easily, though he gave a little wince when he flopped back on the fluffy dog bed, turning on the side that wasn’t injured. “Speaking of naps,” he said, his eyes seeming to close of their own will. “It seems like this cat could use one.”
“Don’t sleep with one eye open,” Marinette warned.
“Ha, very funny,” he murmured, the last word drifting off a little as he let himself fall asleep.
Marinette wondered how anyone could fall asleep that quickly.
She was feeling a bit tired herself, but she wasn’t about to lay down and immediately pass out like Chat had. And she was never one to look forward to the dreams she would inevitably have.
So instead she got up from the dog bed and wandered around Nathaneal’s house, only giving a slight moment’s thought to wonder if it was considered rude to do so. That didn’t stop her, though.
Her leg throbbed dully every time she had to take a step, but she ignored the slight pain and examined some artwork that had been hung up on Nathaneal’s walls. There were portraits and landscapes, all with a sort of whimsical but edged style to them. Marinette liked it.
Aside from the dog beds and artwork, there was really nothing else in the living room. The floor was clean and polished red wood, as if no one had stepped on it before. What with the fact that Nathaneal was a ghost, that was certainly a possibility.
A glance into the connecting doorway that lead to the kitchen told her that the kitchen was also bare like the living room was. There was more artwork on the walls, seeming to center around food, but the stove and countertops were wiped clean and gave off a sort of shining quality. The fridge was covered in drawings done in crayon that didn’t match the style of the other pieces, and Marinette assumed they were kids’ drawings.
“Nino introduced me to this daycare in the capitol,” Nathaneal said from behind her, and Marinette squeaked, jumping a little and letting out a small whine as a bit more weight fell on her injured leg. “Oh, I didn’t mean to scare you,” he said, his voice soft and timid.
“No, no, it’s fine,” Marinette said, turning around and shifting her weight onto her uninjured leg.
Nathaneal’s gaze flicked down at the scab on the side of her thigh. “That doesn’t look good.”
“Oh, it’s not,” she replied without thinking.
His shoulders drew up, and he chewed on his bottom lip, floating into the kitchen and grasping the handle to the fridge. His hand seemed to grow more opaque at the contact to the solid object as he pulled the fridge door open.
“I must have some sort of regular food from one of Nino’s or Chat’s visits,” Nathaneal muttered, taking out several ghostly sandwiches and a few of what looked like sparkly cans of motor oil. Marinette chose not to ask.
Nathaneal’s feet rose a couple more feet into the air as he dug deeper into the fridge, his body now horizontal. “I’ve got” – he pulled himself out of the fridge, still seeming to lay sideways in midair – “I’ve got a chocolate bar.”
“Um.” Marinette took the chocolate bar. It was wrapped in sparkly pink foil and only had the initials CB on it. It also seemed to be half-eaten. “Thank you.”
Marinette decided to save it for Chat.
---
Chat dreamed he was fighting the dummy with Marinette again. Except at this point, he knew that his dreams weren’t dreams anymore but his mind catching him up on what he missed when a Jump occurred.
He really hated that this was happening again.
Marinette was being her normal stubborn self, refusing to heal up when Chat told her to. His chin was smarting from the burn of a magic attack that he had just managed to block, but he was more concerned with how Marinette’s arm seemed to be falling apart.
“You need to heal up,” he said, but Marinette refused.
The fight continued, and Chat was so absorbed in trying to defend himself that he didn’t notice that Marinette had gotten hurt again until the dummy pointed it out.
“You have three holes in your body!” it yelled, and Chat finally turned to her, a million emotions running through him all at once as he saw the way she was barely able to stand up straight. “What kind of monster are you?”
She let out a little breath, easing her weight more to one side than the other and clutching her injured arm to her chest. “Um. The determined kind?”
“Doesn’t matter,” the dummy had said, and Marinette cast a glance at Chat, giving him a searching look. “This just means I have to work harder to end you.”
“Please don’t,” she said, tearing her gaze away from Chat to look at the dummy. Chat could feel the dread pool in his gut.
“Heal up!” he called to her, knowing how this would end. He could feel it in the air, in the way Marinette was already having trouble focusing on what was in front of her.
“Please don’t yell at me,” she near whimpered.
The dummy said something to Chat, but he wasn’t listening, trying in vain to figure out a way to get them both out alive. Missiles zoomed its way toward him, but he just twirled his baton and the missiles collided with the metal instead of his skin. He thought he heard a scream that sounded like a mix of his name and absolute despair and something fall into the water, but the explosions from the missiles had blinded him temporarily.
When he was able to see again, Marinette’s SOUL was completely defenseless as a missile launched toward it.
“Marinette!” he yelled.
He watched her SOUL explode.
---
“What were you saying about that daycare?” Marinette asked, keep her voice low as they walked through the living room to get to the stairs that led to Nathaneal’s room.
“Oh.” He cast a small glance to Chat, who was curled up on one of the dog beds with a slightly troubled expression on his face. “Um, yeah, Nino introduced me to a daycare in the capitol,” he repeated, seeming to try and get his thoughts in order.
The staircase led up to only one room, and that was presumably Nathaneal’s. More artwork littered the walls, but it seemed to be more personal. There were a whole lot more portraits.
Nathaneal gestured to a pile of pillows in the corner of the room, and Marinette gratefully sank down into a sitting position, thankful to get some stress off her leg. Nathaneal perched carefully on one of the only pieces of furniture in the room: a rolly chair by a long and cluttered wooden desk.
“I was visiting the capitol for one of my annual follow up therapy sessions.” He said this casually, and at Marinette’s confused stare, his cheeks became more opaque, like he was blushing. “All akumas have to go through them.”
“Because of the…?” Marinette’s question remained unfinished, but Nathaneal nodded anyway.
“Anyway, at that time Nino was still stationed within the capitol, and we ended up talking a little bit.” Nathaneal touched a toe to the floor and twirled the chair back and forth idly. “I said I liked to draw a lot, and he told me about a daycare that was low on staff. Said they’d probably need someone to step in and teach all the kids some arts and crafts.”
Marinette tried to imagine Nathaneal around a bunch of kids, all demanding attention. It was a little bit funny.
“I didn’t want to at first, but one of my friends convinced me to do it.” He did a full rotation on his chair. “She said I didn’t get out enough. So, I took the job. And for some reason the kids liked to give me their drawings when I praised them, so I decided to hang them up on the fridge.”
“There were a lot of drawings,” Marinette said, remembering how the surface of the fridge could hardly be seen underneath the masses of paper. “You must praise them a lot.”
Nathaneal’s cheeks again seemed to grow opaque. He did two full rotations on his chair. “I like all the drawings they do. And it’s only natural to praise a kid’s hard work.” He shrugged, moving the chair back and forth again. “I go a couple of times a week since I’m only a part-timer, and I show the kids some painting and drawing techniques and then they give me their art.”
“That seems fun.”
A small smile pulled at his lips and it seemed to tug his whole body into a something that let out a pulse of happiness. “It is.”
The quiet that descended over them was something comfortable and warm, and Marinette took the time to gaze at the portraits on the walls. Without getting up, of course.
There was one of Nino, bubble wand in hand, his headphones flipped out and music notes and bubbles surrounding him as he laughed to some joke. Next to his was one of Chat, head resting lazily on his hand as he stared straight out the portrait, his smile hinting that he knew something that Marinette didn’t.
Marinette recognized one of Rose, the shopkeeper from Snowdin, standing with a girl she didn’t recognize. Next to that one was one of Ali, Rose’s friend who owned the Inn in Snowdin. There was also a portrait of Ivan and Mylene, the two akumas responsible for Marinette’s first death experience. She didn’t really blame them or hold any grudges towards them, though. Under normal circumstances, Marinette thought they may seem like fun people to hang out with.
There were many more of people Marinette didn’t recognize, but she still enjoyed looking over Nathaneal’s rendering of them. One in particular caught her eye, and something caught in her throat.
It was a portrait of a man in a black and purple tux standing next to a woman in a red bodysuit wearing a red domino mask. Marinette surged to her feet, her eyes fixed to the portrait. The woman and the man seemed to be happy, their arms wrapped around each other, but Marinette couldn’t care less about the man. It was the woman who had caught her attention.
She turned to Nathaneal, something inside her making her breathless. “In this portrait, who is-”
“Marinette!” Chat stood at the entrance to Nathaneal’s room, the top of the stairs, a look of desperation on his face. He seemed to relax as he saw her though, his whole body seeming to let out a breath. “God, I don’t even know what I was thinking when I woke up and you weren’t there,” he muttered, taking her hand.
She couldn’t help but notice that he guided her gently away from the portrait she had been so fascinated with.
“I didn’t mean to scare you,” Marinette said, her eyes still drawn to that portrait. For the first time, she noticed that the portrait next to the one with the man and the woman was one of Tikki. Suddenly Marinette’s heart was heavy. She no longer wanted to look at those portraits.
“Hey, Chat,” Nathaneal said, twirling idly on his chair. “We were just sitting and thinking about how much we felt like garbage.” Marinette stared at him. He seemed to blush. “Or at least that’s what I was doing.”
“Did you sleep well?” Marinette asked, sitting down on the cushions again and pulling Chat down with her.
His eyes scanned her face, and he took her hand, squeezing it a little. Marinette understood that he meant that no, he did not sleep well at all. She furrowed her eyebrows and looked at his side. There was no sign of any sort of injury, nor proof that there ever had been one. The leather of his suit looked completely without blemish.
“Have you been working on any new portraits lately?” he asked Nathaneal instead of giving a verbal response to Marinette’s question. She pursed her lips, but said nothing.
Nathaneal turned to his desk, sifting through the clutter of CDs, paper, and general art utensils and picked up a thick sheet of paper. The piece looked near finished, the portrait taking on a soft sort of quality because of the water colors and the way the girl’s expression was portrayed.
“Is that…?” Chat trailed off, looking between Marinette and the beautiful girl on the paper. Nathaneal nodded, his entire body seeming to grow more solid as if he was blushing all over.
“That’s me?” Marinette asked, leaning closer and scrunching her nose up. The girl was far too beautiful to resemble Marinette at all. “It can’t be.”
“Of course it is,” Chat said, taking the paper from Nathaneal and showing it to her so that she’d get a closer look. “It’s the spitting image.”
“I try not to glorify anything,” Nathaneal piped up, his cheeks very opaque.
Marinette wasn’t convinced.
The girl in the portrait did in fact resemble her, sure, but she was wearing the clothes that Marinette had fallen in when she first came to the Underground. It didn’t seem like those clothes really fit the current Marinette anymore. In both a physical way and a metaphorical way. Not to mention that the girl looked happy, her hand reaching for the person on the other side of the portrait. If the girl in the portrait really was Marinette, she had no idea she could make an expression so content.
“It’s from when I first saw you. Back in the Ruins,” Nathaneal said, getting up from his chair and taking the portrait. “Now that I’ve seen you again, I don’t think it matches you well enough,” he said, chewing at the inside of his cheek and giving the portrait a scrutinizing look.
Chat was staring at Marinette, as if trying to see the girl in the portrait in her. Marinette wondered if he could see it.
“You seem different now,” Nathaneal said, almost as if to himself. “Not bad different. Just more…” He paused, holding the portrait up and looking between it and Marinette. “More like you know where you want to go.”
He opened a drawer in his desk, revealing a bunch of unfinished portraits. Marinette got a glimpse of one of a neon-colored robot girl. She also thought she caught a glimpse of one of Chat in a lab coat, but she couldn’t be sure.
Setting the unfinished portrait of Marinette in with the other unfinished ones, Nathaneal turned back to his desk and sifted through the miscellaneous items to find a blank canvas. “I’ll start another one,” he said to no one in particular.
“You haven’t rested,” Chat whispered when it was clear Nathaneal wasn’t interested in conversation anymore.
“I wasn’t tired,” Marinette whispered back. “And where did your injury go? Don’t think I haven’t noticed,” she said, noticing the indignant look on his face. “I even saved a chocolate bar for you.”
She pulled out the half-eaten chocolate bar in the shimmery pink wrapping paper. Chat made a face.
“Were you the one that ate the other half of it?” he asked, taking the chocolate bar gingerly and peeling away the paper. It looked like flakes of glitter were actually inside the chocolate.
“Nope.”
He set aside the chocolate bar. “Then forgive me for not trusting an already dodgy brand of chocolate.” He seemed to make a face at the initials ‘CB’ on the wrapping paper.
“You didn’t answer my question though,” Marinette said, choosing to ignore Chat’s strange reaction to the chocolate bar.
Chat placed a hand on his once injured side, almost self-consciously. “I’m an akuma, Marinette. I heal differently with magic attacks and all that.” He pressed down softly on where the wound would’ve been and winced. “It still hurts, but there’s no wound. Soon enough the pain will go away.”
Marinette had no reason to not believe him, but she still found herself unsure. She didn’t ask any more questions, though.
Somehow Chat ended up next to her among the pillows, his arm wrapped around her shoulders and pulling her close to his side. Nathaneal had snapped out of his art trance long enough to put a CD into an old beat up CD player, and soft electronic music with no real lyrics or choruses started to play.
“You need to rest,” Chat murmured into her hair, and at the sound of his words, Marinette realized just how much her eyelids were drooping.
“I don’t want to dream,” she whispered, her voice slurring just the slightest. Her eyes drifted to where the portrait of Tikki was. And where the portrait of the man and the woman was.
Chat rubbed her shoulder soothingly, the evenness of his breath lulling her closer to sleep. “I’ll be here when you wake up.”
The statement almost seemed like a jab at her for leaving him alone while he had been sleeping. But the tone of his voice didn’t suggest any hard feelings, and she fell asleep to the steady rhythm of his breathing and the music drifting from Nathaneal’s CD player.
