oh, and the verbiage shift around (C)ASAB! is a problem also!
original: "jordan was CA[X]AB."
passive voice, the subject is acted upon by an external agent (the medical industrial complex) in the past
contemporary 2022: "jordan is A[X]AB."
copula verb, = equals sign, the subject IS this
original: "people who were CA[X]AB are…"
same as before, passive past tense event done by external agent
contemporary 2022: "A[X]AB people are..."
adjective that cannot be changed because it describes an event that happened, frontal adjective that follows identity-first language patterning
like. okay here's my favorite link on identity-first v person-first language. but let me elaborate a bit here.
identity-first language is for situations like Autistic folks (and Deaf folks, Mad folks, Disabled folks, and others) resisting being called "a person with autism" because these are integral parts of ourselves that cannot be separated - being autistic permeates the whole identity and sense of self, there is no way to "cure" and get to "the real person underneath." there is Deaf culture, and people who are members of it do not want called "a person with deafness."
by contrast, person-first language was created for distancing an attribute and emphasizing one's humanity first, as in "a person with disability." a parallel in trans communities is "a person with transitioning experience" - which is important, because not everyone considers themselves to be trans (because =, copula verb BE/IS, indefinite/forever) and that is okay! why would you if you don't relate or have anything meaningful to you in common - words are tools for connecting
now.
"A[X]AB person" is following the identity-first pattern of communicating "this is an integral attribute that cannot be separated from who i am and is important to me, do not distance it from me in conversation."
plus it's often "A[X]AB trans person," putting ASAB before the actual identity-first adjective trans!
i can definitely opine about how starting with A[X]AB doesn't resist the status quo in the way that identity-first language like Autistic does...
but more simply: hey, uh, some people prefer person-first language and that's okay. people relate to descriptors, words, attributes, experiences, traits, etc differently.
and: be intentional about your choice between identity-first and person-first, and aware of who that puts off
personally, "A[X]AB person" pings gender essentialism flags for me. like saying "female woman," y'know?

Identity-first version for person with FASD?
So, thing is, I have FASD, and I hate seperating my disabilities (at least the ones that affect my brain) from my identity so I'm asking for an identity-first verson of person with FASD (like autistic instead of person with autism, and kinetic instead of person with ADHD), I've yet found "FASD person" which generally I like but see the potential on mishearing it as "fast person" in spoken language, so I'm looking for an alternative.

It seems like we “individuals with autism” wouldn’t be treated as poorly as we are if person first language did what they think it does.

J'onn and Ma'alefa'ak land on Earth and meet Dr. Saul Erdel and his daughter Melissa. While J'onn can quickly learn languages through telepathy, Ma'al learns english and ASL (+ BASL) from scratch. I like the idea of the martians' finding a home in the Black community, and having their reference point for humanity to come from a Black family. The brothers eventually move out to live in their own apartment, but they keep in touch with the Erdels :)

Ever wonder why so many professionals push for person first language? Because that's how they were taught by their teachers and professors. I can understand why people outside of the autistic community can get confused since they're being told one thing from professionals and another thing from the autistic community.

I just think Hunter was obsessed with Willow and didn't even know it during the period from any sport in a storm to labyrinth runners. They maybe don't talk as often as they could, they're both busy and have conflicting schedules, so when they do talk, Hunter absorbs everything she says.
After roughly 3 weeks of texting (hexting? I feel like the kids would call it hexting), He knows that her favorite colour is orange, she likes her tea with extra milk and a bit of honey during winter, she likes working out to the noisiest angriest music in her playlist, her dad Gilbert is a construction witch who specialises in pottery, she used to listen to breakup songs and think about her childhood best friend (Hunter doesn't know it's Amity) and she actually has a mild pollen allergy despite being a plant witch and has to take potions for it.
He casually drops all this info piece by piece during their stay in the human realm and willows like. Well I can't not marry him. It'll have to be a winter or fall wedding to account for her allergies </3

I know I’m late but idc that person who tried to spread fake allegations about tubbo is so fucking stupid. Like yeah, the obviously fake story is telling enough but their lack of forethought as to what they’re actually doing is just crazy.
They outright used Tubbo’s name and blatantly accused him of a crime that he didn’t commit. AND if his viewers can defend him based on the limited evidence we have, I can only imagine what his lawyer could do if given the opportunity. This random person has potentially put themselves in so much legal trouble and for what? goddamn twitter likes???? Like congratulations, thanks to your actions not only will you rot in hell but also possible rot in jail as well.
It hasn’t even been a month since Cellbit’s twitter calúnia case was made public and yet we still have people who don’t understand that their actions have consequences ESPECIALLY IF ITS FUCKING ILLEGAL

Hey! I'm very interested in what you've told me about antisocial personality disorder, neurodivergence, and empathy vs. compassion so far. I would love to hear more!
hi, sorry this has taken me a bit to get to, i've had a hectic few days, and i knew i'd end up writing a lot!
ASPD:
i'll start by saying that i don't have ASPD, so i'm just going to give the basics and hand you off to people who DO have it. it's important to bear in mind that ASPD is primarily considered traumagenic, and that, like any other disorder, it can manifest in a bunch of different ways, and people with it can behave very differently from one another.
ASPD is a cluster b personality disorder characterised by low empathy, limited range and depth of emotions, disregard for other people's feelings, disregard for societal conventions and morality, chronic anger, and chronic boredom. the common view of pwASPD is that they are violent criminals, but that is primarily because research is only ever done on the worst kinds of people, and i'm sure many of them are misdiagnosed. i'm sure i don't need to explain to you why basing a disorder solely off of people in prison is fucked as a concept, given how both the prison system and psychiatry are both incredibly flawed. (it's also for this reason that i have no scientific studies to give you, because the only ones i've come across are grossly ableist)
having ASPD comes with a lot of challenges, but having a disorder - any disorder - doesn't make you a bad person. from what i have seen, a lot of pwASPD don't so much 'not have morals' as have a deep distrust of authority and base their morality on logic or serving their own interests. in fact i've seen an awful lot of pwASPD who are very left leaning or are anarchists. of course there's also plenty who are right wing assholes, but that kind of goes to show that a disorder doesn't dictate your morality, it just might lead you to approach your sense of morality differently.
ASPD resources, from actual pwASPD:

EMPATHY:
my favourite thing to rant about. empathy is wildly misunderstood by most people, so let's start off with a proper description. there are two main types of empathy: cognitive and affective. you will also see some people say that there's a third type, 'compassionate empathy', but i have never seen a definition of it that isn't based on the idea that empathy is necessary for compassion, so i'm ignoring it, and i'll get to compassion later.
cognitive empathy: basically, thinking about feeling. cognitive empathy is the ability to recognise and understand emotions. it is involved with reading people's expressions, or understanding why a certain situation might cause a certain emotional response.
affective empathy: this is typically what people mean when they talk about empathy - the ability to feel what someone else is feeling.
it's extremely important to note that this is fucking impossible. 'feeling what someone else is feeling' is some sci-fi nonsense. it isn't real. the belief that it is causes a lot of harm.
affective empathy, properly defined, is the a person's emotional response to an emotion that they perceive someone else having. it isn't always as simple as 'i'm happy because they're happy'. affective empathy can also be involved in more complicated situations, like feeling afraid because of perceived anger (which leads to a whole conversation about hyperempathy and hypervigilance and the relationship between them, but that's a whole other post that someone who actually has feelings would be more qualified to write)
so that's empathy. it's really just a bunch of feelings that we have about or in relation to other people's feelings. there's no moral component to feelings whatsoever. morality only comes into play when action is involved. which leads me to...
compassion: being kind, not as an inherent state of being, but as a choice.
i'll talk about my own experience here, but i've heard similar from other people with low/no empathy, and i've heard similar from some pwASPD as well.
i choose to be kind because i believe it's the right thing to do. i see a lot of injustice in the world, and it makes me furious - in fact, for me, it's primarily my anger that fuels my compassion. my morals have been based partly on feeling, but also on logic, and on a lot of research. to me, being kind is logical and sensible. it's logical to want people to be happy and safe and free. it benefits me too, for starters.
i don't need to feel sad about people's suffering to want it to stop. and though i don't really feel much empathy, i do still get emotional about things - i can still be sad or angry or happy about certain things happening, it's just... less than other people.
i look at the world around me and i try to find things that i can do to make it better because i think that's my job as a human. sometimes i'm bad at it, and sometimes i'm too tired to, but at the very least i can refuse to cause harm, and when i do, inevitably, cause harm, i can make amends.
(there's also a long discussion to be had about how basing your morality on your ability to empathise with people makes it extremely easy to no longer care about people who have been dehumanised, but that's a post i don't feel qualified to make)
a book i am desperate to read on this subject is Against Empathy by Paul Bloom, but here's an article about it, which is of course not perfect, but makes a lot of interesting points: https://www.vox.com/conversations/2017/1/19/14266230/empathy-morality-ethics-psychology-compassion-paul-bloom
i hope that helps explain some things. if you have - or anyone else has - more questions, feel free to ask, and i'll do my best to answer.

I loove the android robin au it's really one of the most interesting au I have seen in a while.
I am always happy to see new post abt it
Also making my favourite characters go through hell and then receiving comfort from their people is like the best thing ever for me so every time I see a whump!Robin post I like automatically
Tumblr media
People loving android!Robin makes me so happy anansnssndsnsns she's curious and excitable and full of wonder and the world keeps punishing her for simply being alive. Sometimes it's too painful even for me, big whump lover 😭😭 though seriously, there is not enough Robin whump, and while all the characters in the show are very whumpeable, hurting my little blorbo Robin feels special because... she's just so deeply lonely. She's lonely and she thinks she deserves to be because of something wrong with her (pulling this interpretation from Surviving Hawkins lore which is canon to me 😭). That was a big idea I had when I first came up with android!Robin... that there is something wrong with her. Broken. In this AU she's literally broken in a lot of way (battery and memory problems, weak joints in her lower half, etc), but that's all within the range of normal robot problems. The real issue with her is that she's sentient. It terrifies people because it really brings out the existencial horror of... well, existing. It terrifies Robin most of all. She is the problem. She is what's wrong with her. She shouldn't exist.
But at the same time, she loves being alive so much! She doesn't understand it and doesn't know how it happened, but it happened, and now she's real and wants to experience life and the world and know people like human beings do. So it's her constant battle to become human despite humans having hurt her so much in the past... only for Nancy to already see her as human. Just one made of metal and plastic, but human nonetheless. She's the first person to see her that way and maybe everyone else thinks she's crazy, but Nancy is used to that. She's so sure of this, though, of Robin's self-awareness. She trusts her so blindly. She doesn't even need proof. And not only does she believe her, but she defends her humanity in front of her friends and family so ardently, fighting so hard for Robin to be aknowledged by everyone else as human. Fighting so hard to give her a home and family for the first time in her life.
Nancy has it bad for Robin, really. She's just so in love, even if everyone else thinks she's crazy for falling in love with a machine (no one thinks she is, though, because they all know Robin, and once you know Robin, it's impossible not to love her).
#ronance#android!Robin AU#robin buckley#😭😭 every day im emotional about her at 4 am#ok nice things now:#nancy takes her shopping for the first time! because robin never quite developed her own style#and being a girly girl to Nancy clothes are such a big part of your identity#robin finds these cool chains peoole wear as necklaces and bracelets and all these rings and she loves how they all look on her#and this jacket with different patches on it... she never thought she'd be the kind of girl to like shopping but she's so excited#because its the first time she's choosing what clothes to wear#Nancy introduces her to many different kinds of music alongside Steve#and then eventually the whole gang joins them. everyone gets to suggest one artist and soon Robin has this long asf playlist#to listen to so she can figure out what she likes#same with movies - they all now have weekly movie nights so they can show Robin different films#robin slowly discovering her passions... she reads a lot and finds out she loves languages and literature#and she decides she wants to get into college to study something related to it#she also decides she wants to travel through Europe and wants to bring Nancy with her#she decorates her room with movie and music posters#she decides she really likes cyndi lauper#she tries to learn how to dance with youtube tutorials#dragging Nancy into it#she gets to watch a lot of movies at her job at the movie theater#and she makes friends with her coworkers there#she's not fully and truly becoming a person#she has never been this happy#my posts#thank you for your ask i love talking about android!robin

How do yall feel about person first vs identity first language?
I personally like id first because the whole point of person first to separate the person from being disabled, which 1. Not everyone wants 2. Makes it seem like being part of the disabled community is bad, 3. Disabled people tend to be blunt af anyway, we don't beat around the bush with our wording because if we do, we've learned that ppl wont take us seriously (like drs)
Like if a specific person preferred one way over the other i wld respect it, but as for the whole community like ?? Person first language feels like abled non-sense.
