the shape of arda
I've always had trouble deciding whether I prefer the cosmology as explained in The Silmarillion or one closer to the version in 'Myths Transformed' Tolkien began working on where Arda is always round and the sun and moon pre-date the Trees. On one hand I do like the idea of a world of eternal night and the first humans waking in the light of the first sunrise to hold it in adoration afterwards. But on the other hand there are things that annoy me about it, like how changing the shape of the world didn't destroy massive swaths of it in tectonic disasters, where the extra sea and land needed to cover the gaps came from, and that the sun first rises from the west.
O how I hate the idea of the sun rising in the west. The insistence that Aman is the ultimate source of all light and civilisation, flowing through the Eldar and Númenorians who have been uplifted by the Valar making them superior to all who refused it or never had it offered to them at all, is incredibly obnoxious.
While 'Myths Transformed' can be taken as proof of in-universe knowledge of planetary roundness, that does leave the question of how the mythic flat world came to be recorded by people you would expect to know better; the Ñoldor received teaching from the Valar who surely must have been aware of the shape of the world if they created it. However, I do have an idea about how it could have happened…
🎇🎆
Valar: Well done team – one circular world and it is absolutely perfect.
Melkor: What a stupid shape for a planet. I think *smash* that this *crash* will be a much better one!
Valar: ...let's try again somewhere else and pretend this never happened. If we refuse to accept the Marring of Arda and keep hope things will get better maybe the problem will magically fix itself through the power of positive thinking.
🌳🌴
Manwë: *to the elves* ...and all the layers of the Airs stretch as far as the Encircling Sea. They touch the Walls of the World, beyond which lies the Void where my beloved Varda’s stars shine.
Ulmo: Don't you think you should mention that this is only true for Aman and that Arda is round? And just because the sun and moon didn't turn out quite the way we hoped that doesn't mean we should encourage the elves to forget about them entirely.
Manwë: I think that the fact Arda should be flat is more important. The sun and the moon are old news; the Trees are much better. Just look at the way the light drips – Yavanna really out did herself with them.
1️⃣
Fingolfin's Host: It was amazing how the sun appeared just as we arrived in Middle-earth. Definitely an omen of the coming of good things.
Fëanor's Host: Actually, it was already day over here. You just didn't see the sunlight before you passed the end of the dimensional verge at the edge of the Hel... carax...
Fingolfin's Host: *glaring intensifies*
1️⃣
Ñoldor: Your ancestors must have decided to journey to Beleriand because at their awakening they saw the sun rising from the west and loved it as we love the stars.
Humans: Actually, according to our people’s lore the sun has always risen in the east and set in the west. The first elves we met – we have mentioned them before; they live beyond the mountains and don't have glowing eyes which is why we didn't realise you were related to them at first – told us that their kin had gone into the west to dwell in a land without famine or sickness where the dead can return to life. We thought that sounded like a really nice place to live.
Ñoldor: Let us explain to you why your traditions are silly and wrong.
2️⃣
Faithful: How could anyone doubt that the cosmology taught to us by the elves is correct? They were gifted the knowledge by the Valar themselves.
King's Men: A bunch of people circumnavigated the world by sailing across the Eastern Sea until they emerged from the Sundering Sea. They brought some weird birds they violently appropriated from a distant continent back with them.
Faithful: Clearly this is a conspiracy to trick us into breaking the Ban of the Valar so doom will fall upon us.
3️⃣
Third Age Scholar: It's strange how all these ancient texts describe the world as a disc even though we know it to be spherical. Perhaps the nature of Arda was changed during one of those continent-destroying cataclysms.

There for You
Emily isn't always the best at looking after herself, so sometimes Aaron has to do it for her.
Part of the Glittering Mica series
-x-
It has been a LONG time since I wrote this version of them. 13 months!! This is post-canon Hotchniss, and it is probably best to read at least the first fic (Glittering Mica) before you read this if you haven't done so before
Special shout out to @ssa-sparks who reminded me on Sunday that I promised her this AGES ago.
-x-
Words: 2.8k
Warnings: None!
Read over on Ao3, or below the cut
He used to do her job so he understands it. Understands the pull, the intrigue. Why she continues to do it even though he sees how it sometimes settles under her skin, some cases harder to take than others even after all these years. He still feels a sense of responsibility even though he is no longer her superior, that he hasn’t been in years, and it’s not just because he is her husband.
Aaron still felt guilty about leaving her with this job, pulling her back from London and to the place where she once struggled to find her role in a life that had been torn from her. He knew she would only ever say yes to his request for her to replace him, her loyalty one of the many traits he’d loved about her long before they ever got together.
He understands when her phone rings at 3 am, tearing them both from sleep and her from his arms as she groans, rolling over to answer it before her voicemail gets there first. The greeting she gives the person on the other end is hoarse, her exhaustion clear, and it gets him out of bed even though he has nowhere to be. He kisses her forehead, her bangs askew from sleep and gets a tired, but loving, smile in return as he heads downstairs.
He puts the coffee on to brew as he hears her step into the shower and starts organising breakfast when he hears the hair dryer. Something simple, quick. He knows her well enough to know that she would likely try to refuse to eat anything, her go bag slung over her shoulder as she gets ready to head to a town far away from home.
He puts a couple of slices of toast on a plate and sets it on the counter, a cup of coffee with enough sweetener in to make his teeth ache next to it, as he hears her descend the stairs. She’s already talking to him when she walks into the kitchen.
“I thought I could smell coffee,” she says, walking around the counter to kiss his cheek, reaching into the cabinet for her thermos so she can pour herself some, “you’re a lifesaver.”
“I made you breakfast,” he replies, kissing her cheek before he tilts his head towards where he had set it up.
“That’s sweet, honey,” she says, fighting a yawn as she looks back from the counter to him, “but I’ve got to go.”
Aaron rolls his eyes at her and takes her go bag off of her shoulder, setting it down on the floor before he guides her to the chair, making her sit before he sits next to her, not missing the way she glares at him.
“It’s two slices of toast and a cup of coffee sweetheart,” he quips, “I think you have time for that.”
Emily scoffs but picks up one of the slices of toast, making a show of taking a bite. He laughs, knowing she’d never admit that he was right, that she’d ignore her stomach growling at her until the team had a late lunch.
“Where are you heading?” He asks, his hand on her lower back, taking in as much of her as he can before she leaves, knowing he’d miss her like he always did.
“Ohio,” she replies, taking another bite of her toast, “their fourth body showed up a couple of hours ago, so the lead detective finally called us.”
He smiles as he watches her all but inhale her second slice of toast, her eyes flitting between him and her watch. She stands before she’s even finished chewing, grabbing her coffee and pouring it into her thermos.
“I really should go.” She says, turning to smile at him, “thank you for breakfast.”
He cups her cheek, wiping at the corner of her mouth with his thumb and she frowns, making his smile widen.
“You had jam on your face,” he explains, leaning down to press a quick kiss to her lips, “I thought you wouldn’t appreciate walking onto the jet and having Alvez point it out.”
“You’re right, I wouldn’t have,” she replies, leaning up to kiss him, hugging him quickly before she disentangles herself from him, grabbing her go bag from where she had placed it on the floor. “I’ll text when I can, ok?”
“Ok, sweetheart,” he says, following her towards the front door, “be safe.”
She turns and smiles at him as she unlocks the door, the cool night air flooding into their house.
“I love you,” she says, stepping out onto the porch.
“I love you too.”
___
He’s concerned when she doesn’t come home.
The team hasn’t picked up a case, she would have told him otherwise, her last text to him letting him know she’d be late. When the clock ticks over to 11 pm he checks Find my Friends, and is relieved, yet not surprised, to see she’s still in Quantico.
He leaves the house immediately, the traffic to the office mercifully light at this time of day. He makes it through security, exchanging a smile and a joke with the night security team. This routine of his and Emily’s familiar to him.
He can’t help but smile when he finds her asleep on the couch in her office. She clearly fell asleep sitting up, case files next to her, but has slumped over, her head resting against the arm of the couch. He walks over, carefully moving the files to the desk, ensuring he doesn’t mix any of them up, before joining her on the couch. He places his hand on her shoulder and she immediately wakes, ever the light sleeper.
“Em, it’s ok,” he says as she jumps, his hand running up and down her arm, “it’s me.”
“Aaron?” she asks, blinking her eyes open as she turns to look at him, her confusion clear as she takes in her surroundings, “Oh crap, I fell asleep.”
“You did,” he replies, an amused smile on his face as he encourages her to lean into his side, something she does gladly, her head on his shoulder, “I was worried when you didn’t come home.”
“I’m sorry, honey,” she says, reaching out for his hand and squeezing it, lifting their joint hands to her lips so she can kiss his knuckles, “I didn’t mean to.”
“I know, sweetheart,” he kisses her temple, “did you eat?” He feels her tense against him, and he has his answer, and he sighs, “Em-”
“I know,” she groans cutting across him, “but I had casework, and then the budget review, and the deputy director breathing down my neck over an upcoming court case…time got away from me.”
He holds her a little tighter, an apology he knows she doesn’t want on the tip of his tongue, guilt for leaving her to this job making his chest tight. But he knows that’s not what she wants, that she’s grateful he understands, that he is the only person who does.
“Come on,” he says, standing up and gently pulling her up too, unable to stop the smile on his face when she immediately leans into him again, as if she was too tired to stand by herself, “we’re going home, via a fast food restaurant of your choice.”
She smiles at him, her eyes giving away how tired she is, “Oh wow, what a romantic,” she jokes, and he shakes his head at her.
“Well, I was going to take you to that Italian place you love tonight, but you fell asleep on the couch.” He replies, helping her into her jacket and picking up her briefcase for her.
“The Italian place?” She asks, her eyebrows furrowing, and he sees the moment she realises. The way she closes her eyes and grimaces when she remembers it was supposed to be date night, something they had already had to rearrange. “Fuck, Aaron I am so sorry.”
Her eyes well up, a true sign of how tired she must be if the thought of a missed date was making her emotional, and he shakes his head at her.
“Baby, there’s nothing to apologise for,” he says softly, squeezing her hand as he leads her out of the office that was once his, “I get it.”
“Next week?” She says, the guilt still not fully dissipating from her eyes. She wraps her hand around his arm as they walk down the stairs to the main bullpen together.
He knows it isn’t that easy, that a case could come along and change their plans yet again, but he wants to do anything to wipe the sad look off of her face, her pain, emotional or physical, always his downfall.
“Sounds good to me.”
___
He knows the moment he walks in the door that it’s been a bad day.
She’d text him throughout the time she was away on the case, vague details about how awful it was, how she’d been the one to tell the youngest victim’s family about their death. The moment he sees her he wants to ask, but he knows it won’t help. That she needs to work through it herself. There were times to push her, to ask questions she’d be angry at him for asking, but this wasn’t one of those times.
He was home later than her for once, a late lecture he was talking at meant she made it back before him. He isn’t surprised to smell pizza in the air, or to see her go bag abandoned just inside the door. He finds her on the couch, her arms wrapped tightly around a cushion, her eyes fixed on the tv. Casablanca is playing, a favourite of hers when she was upset, but he knows she isn’t taking any of it in, her focus elsewhere.
“Hi sweetheart,” he says, dropping a kiss to the top of her head. She tilts her head back to look at him, a tight smile on her face.
“Hi,” she replies, kissing him quickly, “I left some pizza for you.”
“Thanks,” he smiles at her, squeezing her shoulder slightly as he walks to the kitchen, “I’ll be back.”
He makes quick work of it, plating up a couple of slices of pizza for himself, and one for her because he knows she always steals some of his food. He joins her on the couch, and she immediately closes the gap between them, leaning against his side as she grabs one of the slices of pizza without comment.
They eat in silence, the movie playing in the background, and when he’s done he places the plate on the table in front of them, wiping his fingers on the paper towel he’d brought with him. He gathers her properly in his arms, heaving her against his chest, his hand on her back.
“If you get grease marks on my clothes again I’ll kill you,” she mumbles, snuggling further into him without comment, “Dave still talks about the time your fingerprints were all over my white shirt.”
Aaron chuckles, “I know, that’s why I brought in the paper towels,” she hums her response, her fingers playing with the buttons on his shirt. Whatever was bothering her playing on her mind. “Want to talk about it?”
She shakes her head against him. “No.”
“What can I do to help?”
“This is good,” she replies, reaching for his hand and linking their fingers, “and maybe when the movie is done, we can have sex?”
He laughs, pulling her impossibly closer, tilting her head up so he can kiss her.
“I guess if it will make you feel better, I can handle having sex with you,” he jokes, feeling a surge of pride when she fights back a smile. “You’re such an ass,” she says, no malice in her voice as she pinches at his ribs.
“I know, but you love me anyway.”
She settles against him again, her eyes fixed on the tv, a tragic love story that, in another life when they didn’t make it back to each other, could have closely resembled theirs playing out on screen.
“I really do.”
___
It’s Dave that tells him.
Aaron was already sure something was wrong, the responses his wife sent him short and clipped. The team's delayed return home indicating that something had happened.
Dave sends him a text, tells him that Spencer had got hurt, had needed some stitches but was fine, and Emily clearly wasn’t.
He decides to meet the jet on the tarmac, smiling at the team as they disembark. He doesn’t miss the bandage on Spencer’s head, and he has a quick conversation with him before he leaves, JJ offering to drop him home.
Emily is last off of the jet, and he sees the look of resignation on her face when their eyes meet. She walks over to him and lets herself get pulled into a hug, her body stiff in his embrace.
“Who told you?”
He kisses the side of her head, pulling away so he can encourage her towards the car, their steps in line with each other as always.
“I’ll give you one guess.”
She scoffs, “Remind me to snap the spaghetti in front of him next time we have them all over for dinner.”
He takes her bag from her and puts it in the trunk, and he joins her in the car, her gaze already fixed out of the passenger window.
“Em-”
“Not now,” she cuts him off, her voice thick, “When we get home.” He hesitates, his wife’s emotions so palpable that he can almost feel them, the air in the car thick with it. She must sense it, because she turns to look at him, her eyes shining, “please.”
He nods, placing his hand on her thigh and giving it a quick squeeze before he starts the car.
The journey home is silent, and he follows her in, closing the door behind them, ensuring the door is locked. He puts her bag down, and she walks towards the kitchen without looking back. He sighs as he follows her, and finds her with a bottle of wine in her hands, two glasses already out on the side.
“Sweetheart-”
“Please don’t say it’s not my fault,” she says, opening the bottle and pouring the drinks for them.
“But it isn’t.” He replies simply, unsurprised and undeterred when she looks up at him, fury in her eyes that he knows has nothing to do with him.
“I sent him in first, it was my call and he got hurt,” she says through gritted teeth, putting the bottle down on the counter with a little more force than necessary, “how is that anything other than my fault.”
Aaron takes a step towards her, his hand at her lower back, and he’s glad when she doesn’t flinch.
Her relationship with Spencer had always been different, the depth of it forged in the days they had spent in a cult’s compound years ago. She’d taken a beating for him then, something Aaron could still hear echoing in his head even now if he thought about it too much. Then there was her fake death, Spencer’s reaction to it and her return. The time he spent in prison, the choices Emily had made to get him out that she admitted to Aaron in the dark of their bedroom, shame he knew she would never entirely shift in her voice. That combined with the duty she felt for her team, a burden he knew all too well, meant this was harder for her, and he knows she’d rather it was her with the concussion than their friend.
“It isn’t your fault,” he repeats, his voice firm. She turns to look at him, tears spilling onto her cheeks as she does so, “it’s down to the man who hit him in the head with a gun, and no one else.” He wipes his thumb under her eye, catching another tear. “This isn’t on you, and Reid wouldn’t want you blaming yourself either.”
She breaks, a sob escaping her as she leans into him, holding him tightly. Her hands are fisted in the back of his shirt, and her forehead is against his neck, her tears hot against his skin. He holds her back just as fiercely, his hand rubbing up and down her back gently. She calms down slowly, her breathing more even.
“It’s ok,” he mumbles into the top of her head, “I’m right here.”
“It’s just…fuck. I have no idea how you did this job for so long.” She says against him, pulling back to look at him. “I feel bad for all the times I called you a hardass.”
He frowns down at her, his hand cupping her cheek. “I don’t remember you calling me that.”
“It was almost exclusively behind your back.”
He chuckles, shaking his head at her as she smiles up at him, her eyes still shining. “Are you ok?”
She nods slowly, settling back against him. “I will be,” she holds him a little tighter, “I have you.”

Hello there, sorry to be interrupting!
I was curious about what issued you've personally encountered with Stampede!
I'm completely new to the series, I know there's an older adaptation also but supposedly it was very inaccurate to the story and I'd love to know the differences between iterations before sticking to one.
I am definitely 👌 close to just reading the manga and nothing else though, given that Stampede didn't really spark joy for me as I'd have hoped it would.
Thank you for your time either way!
Wishing you a stellar day :)
You asked so I’m gonna probably write a whole lot lol 😝
I am not by any means a Trigun 1998 purist or anything, I actually got some issues with it too later on once they deviate from the manga. Personally, I think between the three the manga is ABSOLUTELY the better version just in terms of storytelling and visual style and whatnot. I very highly recommend it.
Trigun 98 nails Yasuhiro Nightow’s visual style perfectly. It’s got absolutely iconic music, and it’s one of those animes that helped make anime a big thing in the US. Plus, I’ve got a lot of nostalgia for it personally because I watched it first and as a kid. It’s very good.
The problem with 98 is that the Trigun manga took a hiatus and was republished later under a different magazine, and from that point on is known as Trigun Maximum (if you do watch 98 this split starts to happen right after the stuff with Eriks and the little timeskip) so it misses out on a LOT of good stuff and makes up it’s own ending. But up to that point it’s a phenomenal adaptation.
Trigun Stampede is… it’s a weird case for me. Because while on the one hand I don’t hate the cg style here, I also feel like it’s wrong for Trigun. It’s so crisp and clean instead of gritty. They seemed to be leaning a lot more into the sci-fi side of Trigun than space western and it’s just a surprising choice?
They’ve done a great job characterizing Vash. I was actually very excited to see Knives using y’know KNIVES lol and (while I haven’t got there yet) I know the ending of the series plays into 98/the manga somehow. But it felt weird to me watching it when so many characters were weirdly different.
They made changes and I don’t get why? Like changing the planet’s name from Gunsmoke to No Man’s Land lol why? I personally was really hoping they would give us more accurate manga adaptations but instead they gave us something that was neither. It keeps a lot of that original Trigun peace and love to it, but every character change leaves me just looking at the screen and going “WHY”
Just for example about what I mean (and the biggest example of it)
One of my favorite manga characters is Livio. I love Livio. He isn’t in 98 at all. But he has a big part in the manga. The second he showed up in Stampede I was pretty annoyed. They took one of my favorite character designs and just…made it real bad. And so far the characterization doesn’t seem right either, although I’ll admit it bothered me enough I haven’t watched more yet.
None of these things make me consider it an abomination or anything, I do believe there s a lot of good stuff there. Just makes it hard for me personally to keep watching. It could be better!
Some comparison photos of Livio

And some comparisons of Knives
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s just…it’s not bad but it’s not what it could have been 🥲 I don’t believe there is anyone out there that has read the manga that would think either anime adaptation is superior to it
Anyway, sorry for the novel! I love the manga and have been screaming at my friends to read it for years lol
Definitely check it out!

hiiiii love! if you would answer n, q, & w for the ask game??
Hi Jess!
I’m so sorry, I meant to answer these last night but I fell asleep 😭 here we go!
n: is there a fic you wish anyone else would write (or finish)?
There are too many to count!! In terms of what I wish someone would write, I tend to love guy wrenchingly angsty fics, so any version of that — ie. a vampire trying to find a cure for their own immortality, or circumstances that just prevent two people from getting together because the timing is right! I’d also love to see really complex fantasy and sci-fi AUs, but I know it’s a lot of work to write that and I’m so appreciative to people have done it already! I also adore slow burns, and genuinely wish there were more of them! Another guilty pleasure of mine is the TV show The Originals, and I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a BTS fic based on because it’s so good (far superior to TVD imo)!
In terms of fics I’d like to see finished, the immediate ones that stick out to me are Bound by obiwrites on AO3 (absolutely showstopping amazing work), and I wish someone (me) would write a sequel to my own Yoongi fic Before The World is Big because I am sitting here grappling with the fact that I left it unfinished and with no resolution between the main pair🥲
q: how do you feel about collaborations?
I have, and this is just going to be honest on my part, very mixed feelings 😣 I’ve hosted two collabs for Jin and Yoongi’s bdays but then also been part of collabs that have fallen through or that I’ve had to leave for my own reasons. I think the ideas are amazing and if they’re executed, lead to awesome fics (I especially like when the collab fics all tie in with characters and universes) but I do think it can put unnecessary pressure on fic authors to write. That’s also kind of the reason I’ve never really opened up requests either because I’m one of those people that if I don’t feel like writing something, I won’t. I’ve read and enjoyed many collabs though! One that sticks out to me was the BTS Christmas in July one from last year!
w: do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones?
I think it goes both ways! Sometimes if I get a super specific prompt, my brain gets hung up on one detail about it and that can make or break me being able to write about it. But at the same time, I like having guidance about what to write! Also like I said above, I’ve never formally taken requests for this reason bc my muse is very fickle and I don’t want to disappoint people if I can’t fill them 🥰

Portal to My Heart (Book 2) Chapter Five
Chapter Five: In the Library
(Y/N) and Loki sat outside of Judge Renslayer’s office while Mobius was inside. If they were younger, they would have resembled children waiting outside the principal’s office. (Y/N) bounced her knee anxiously.
“What are you nervous about?” asked Loki. “You’re not the one who tried to trick everyone. You actually exposed me.”
“Get over yourself, it wasn’t going to work, and I’ve made it clear that I wouldn’t have done anything if you didn’t involve me,” snapped (Y/N).
“Don’t you want to escape?” huffed Loki.
“Yes, but I want freedom after that, not to be used by you or anyone else,” said (Y/N).
Loki frowned. “I…” The image of his mother and (Y/N)’s dead bodies flashed into his mind. The memory of (Y/N) sacrificing herself to save him played before his eyes. “I wasn’t sure how to make it believable. I don’t see you as a pawn.” He chuckled. “I would be an idiot to try to manipulate you now. You’d be far too much trouble,” he teased.
A small smile cracked (Y/N)’s face. “Yeah, I’m pretty at causing trouble. That’s the entire reason I’m here: to make trouble for Lokis.”
“Well, then you won’t be in trouble, you’re doing exactly that,” said Loki, smirking.
(Y/N) smiled. It might not have been an apology perse, but it was enough. It was, however, Loki acknowledging that he didn’t see her as a pawn (still, of course, using playfulness to deflect from the vulnerability of honesty). And that was what (Y/N) wanted.
The door of Renslayer’s office opened, and Mobius walked out. He whistled at them to get up. Loki hurried after him.
“You’re probably wondering what happened out on the mission,” said Loki. Mobius just kept walking, annoyed at Loki’s behavior.
And he’s back to acting all tough and clever. (Y/N) smiled to herself. Well, at least I got to see a glimpse of another part of him. Makes him a bit easier to get along with. Still isn’t going to stop me from teasing him, though. Has to be someone to bring him down a few pegs.
“That was your first lesson in catching a Loki,” said Loki. “Expect the expected. Half the fun of being a trickster is knowing everyone knows you’re a trickster, and, then, many of your tricks can come from exploiting the fact that they already know—”
“Okay! Just shut up,” snapped Mobius. “Please. What happened to the guy I met on the elevator? Who didn’t like to talk? Remember him? Now I’m stuck with this guy who won’t stop yacking away about what makes a Loki tick. At least (Y/N) knows when to listen!”
Mostly because I’m figuring out your weaknesses too so I can escape.
“But isn’t that precisely why I’m here?” asked Loki.
“No, I don’t care what makes you tick,” said Mobius. “You and (Y/N) are here to help me catch the superior version of you, Loki! That’s it!”
“Hang on!” exclaimed Loki. “I’m not sure ‘superior’ is actually quite the right word.”
Mobius turned on Loki in front of an elevator. “See? There it is. Right there. I believed, stupidly, that insecure need for validation would motivate you to find the killer. Not cause you care about the TVA mission or bein’ a hero, but because you know this Variant is better than you and you can’t take it. But it seems (Y/N) is the only one of you who is making any effort to be better! And while she has just as many issues as you, at least she’s not blind and making things worse for everyone!”
(Y/N) winced. Even if Loki and I did just get along, he’s not going to like the implication of anyone, especially me, being better than him in any way.
“Very nice,” said Loki. He fiddled with Mobius’s tie. “I mean, it is adorable that you think you could possibly manipulate me. I’m ten steps ahead of you. I’ve been playing a game of my own all along!” He nodded, pleased with himself.
Mobius sighed and pinched his brow. “(Y/N), make a point.”
(Y/N) glanced at him uncomfortably. “Umm, I really don’t want to get in another argume—”
“Now.” Mobius wasn’t in the mood for sparing Loki’s feelings.
Shifting uneasily, (Y/N) cleared her throat. “Loki…When Mobius brought up seeing the Time-Keeper’s earlier, your face lit up. Then, you compared them to Gods, making it clear you thought of yourself on par with them. Finally, you said the other Loki would want to team up with you to overthrow the Time-Keepers to take over the TVA. It’s pretty obvious you yourself want to take control of the TVA.” Loki’s face fell, and (Y/N) grimaced. We had just been getting along…
“A double-cross by history’s most reliable liar,” said Mobius pointedly.
“Fine,” said Loki. “Then why were you sticking your neck out for me in there?”
“I’ll give you two options, and you can believe whichever one you want,” said Mobius. He stepped closer to Loki. “For you? A) Because I see a scared little boy, shivering in the cold. And you kind of feel bad for that ice runt.” Loki’s eyes widened. “Or B) I just wanna catch this guy, and I’ll tell you whatever I need to tell you.” Mobius narrowed his eyes. “And let’s not forget that the more you act up, the more you endanger (Y/N)’s position too!”
(Y/N) frowned. “But I helped!” She turned to Loki. “Sorry.”
“No, no, I don’t understand either,” said Loki.
Mobius sighed. “Look, what I’ve done, bringing you two along, is very controversial. Everyone is looking for a reason to get rid of you two. And they’ll use the mistake of one of you two punish the other.”
“Shit,” sighed (Y/N), running her hand through her hair.
“So both of you better be on your best behavior or you’re in trouble,” said Mobius, stepping into the elevator.
“We don’t need sympathy,” said Loki.
“Good, cause I’m runnin’ out of it.” The doors slid closed.
“What is this? The next step of your manipulation?” asked Loki as they stepped off the lift.
“This is the final step. Your last chance,” said Mobius. “And it’s definitely a test for (Y/N). Renslayer isn’t sure you’ll be able to figure out a Variant Loki’s mind quite like this one’s.”
            “I’m offended,” muttered (Y/N).
“What does our desperate last chance require?” questioned Loki.
            “Work,” said Mobius.
(Y/N) groaned as they walked into a room filled with boxes upon boxes of evidence and files.
“I need you to go over each and every one of the Variant’s case files, and then, give my your…How do I put it? Your unique perspective on the Variant Loki,” said Mobius. “Who knows? Maybe there’s something that we missed.”
“Well, you’re idiots. I suspect you probably missed a lot,” quipped Loki.
“With their myopic view, definitely,” said (Y/N).
“That’s why I’m lucky I got ya for a bit longer,” said Mobius, sighing. He stopped in front of a table piled high with files. “Let me park ya at this desk. And don’t be afraid to really lean into this work. Here’s a good trick for you, Loki: Pretend your life depends on it.” He patted the on the back. “I’m gonna get a snack.”
Sighing, (Y/N) slumped down in a chair alongside Loki. She flipped open a file and began reading. Over and over, the pattern repeated. Time crawled by at a snail’s pace.
“And another group of Minutemen were ambushed, surprise surprise,” muttered (Y/N) on what felt like the hundredth report.
“Stole the reset charge as well?” said Loki monotonously, already knowing the reason.
            “Yep.”
A librarian shushed them violently. Loki and (Y/N) looked at her and shushed her right back. (Y/N) let the files fall the table and stood up.
Loki raised an eyebrow. “Where are you off to?”
“I’m going to ask a question. At this point, anything’s better than dying of boredom, and I’d rather do something interesting and helpful for myself,” said (Y/N). She walked over to a librarian’s desk. She tapped the bell repeatedly until the librarian grabbed it so it would stop ringing. (Y/N) smiled innocently.
“Can I help you?” snipped the librarian.
“Yeah, can I have the files on the founding of the TVA?” asked (Y/N).
“Those are classified.” The woman’s deadpan stare didn’t wave.
“Then give me the files on the beginning of time,” said (Y/N).
            “Those are classified.”
            “End of time?”
            “Those are classified.”
“Is that all you say?” Silence. (Y/N) sighed. “What can I have?”
The woman sighed before standing up and silently led her to a shelf. She pulled out a few files and put them in (Y/N)’s hands. “Happy reading.”
(Y/N) huffed as she saw the files were only on her and Loki. She walked back to the table and sat down. “I hate this place.”
“I take it you didn’t have any luck?” said Loki.
“I want to know the truth about this place, but they hide all the information. I’m surprised everyone just goes along with what they’re told,” said (Y/N). Sighing, she shook her head and held up the files she got. “Here, I at least got this. Might be more interesting than what we’re doing now.” She smiled playfully. “And I thought reading about you, well, another version of you, your timeline—fuck, this is confusing.” She tossed Loki’s to him. “Just read.”
Loki chuckled, and his eyes softened for a moment as they met hers. They were quiet for a moment before turning to their files. The first words that stared up at them in alarming red letters were “DESTRUCTION OF ASGARD.” The details were worse. (Y/N) saw the words “full planetary destruction” and “entire civilization annihilated.” Swallowing hard, Loki blinked away the gathering tears. A mournful look appeared on (Y/N) face.
“Loki…I’m so sorry…” She reached across the table and gently touched his hand. It was a bare brush across his hand, but it was there. Loki just met her gaze with his teary eyes. Unable to say anything more, (Y/N) bit her lip and looked down. She frowned, drew her hand back, and held the file up. A particular line reading “zero variance energy detected” had caught her eye. Her eyes widened as she made a connection. “Loki…look.” She held up the paper. “Nothing was detected during an apocalypse.”
Loki blinked before straightened. “Oh…Oh!” He smirked, pushing aside his sadness. “It appears we uncovered something interesting after all.”
He’s hiding his emotions… “Guess we have something to show Mobius.” She stood up and gathered the files. “Let’s go.” If he doesn’t want to face his pain, I can respect that…I won’t push.
l
“We found something,” said Loki as they entered the cafeteria and walked straight to Mobius.
“Correction: I found something,” said (Y/N), waving the file in her hand.
“Well, you wouldn’t have seen it if I wasn’t…You wouldn’t have seen it if I wasn’t there,” said Loki.
“And yet I made the connection,” hummed (Y/N). She smirked. “I think that means I found it.”
Mobius sighed. “I thought I told you two to not bother me until you’d read all the files.”
            “We did,” said Loki.
            “Every file?” Mobius sounded incredulous.
            “Yes!” Loki was indignant.
            “Pertaining to the Variant?”
“Doesn’t matter,” interrupted (Y/N), “because the answer wasn’t in the files. It was on the timeline!” She sat down with Loki. They were so excited to share their discovery that they couldn’t be bothered to fight more.
I can’t decide whether I want them to be this in synch or not…thought Mobius.
“The Variant is hiding in apocalypses,” said (Y/N).
“Which apocalypse?” Mobius looked at them blankly. “Any time in history? There’s, like, a million of em.”
“Ragnarok. Are you familiar?” said Loki.
“Yes. The destruction of Asgard and most of its people. I’m sorry,” said Mobius.
“Yes, very sad,” said Loki, becoming quieter and softer. “Anyway, it got me thinking—” (Y/N) coughed “—us thinking—” She coughed louder “—alright, (Y/N) thinking.”
            “Go ahead.” Mobius sat back.
“Nexus events occur when people do something they’re not supposed to, right?” said (Y/N).
“Well, it’s a little more complicated, but yeah,” said Mobius.
“And then there’s a ripple effect from their one action, right? A bunch of things that aren’t supposed to happen start happening until a new timeline branches,” continued (Y/N).
“Chaotic altercations of a predetermined outcome.” Mobius nodded.
“Big words for the same concept,” said (Y/N). She began looking at the table in front of her. “Let’s say…”
“What are you doing?” asked Mobius as Loki jumped in and took his salad.
“Your salad is Asgard in this scenario,” said Loki, picking up on where (Y/N) was going.
“It’s not Asgard; it’s my lunch. I want that salad,” said Mobius, sighing.
“It’s a metaphor, just hang in there,” said Loki.
“Now, we could go to Asgard before Ragnarok destroys everything and do anything we wanted,” said (Y/N).
“Push Hulk off the Rainbow Bridge,” suggested Loki, shaking some salt into the salad while Mobius protested.
“Right, and I could drink all the Asgardian wine I wanted,” said (Y/N), shaking pepper into the salad.
“No, just stop,” said Mobius mournfully as his lunch was ruined. “Don’t drink the wine.”
“We could do whatever we want to do, and it would never matter,” said Loki.
“It wouldn’t go against the dictates of the timeline because…” (Y/N) shook the soda and found it was empty. Grabbing a milk carton from a nearby table (the poor secretary was confused), she returned and held it up. “Because the apocalypse is coming.”
“Surtur destroys Asgard no matter what we do,” explained Loki. (Y/N) poured the milk into the salad.
“No, don’t do—!” Mobius sighed in resignation.
            “There’s the apocalypse,” said (Y/N).
            “That’s the apocalypse?”
“Ragnarok destroys the salt and pepper,” said (Y/N).
“There it is!” chirped Loki. The two smiled at Mobius, very pleased with themselves.
“What am I looking at?” asked Mobius, staring at his milky salad.
“Okay, it was a clumsy metaphor, but you see what we mean,” said Loki.
“It doesn’t matter what apocalypse it is. Tidal wave, meteor, fire, volcanoes, supernova, anything,” said (Y/N) excitedly. “If everything is going to be destroyed soon, then it doesn’t matter what we do because the timeline won’t branch. The Variant could be in an apocalypse and doing whatever he wants, and we wouldn’t know.” Mobius frowned. “Think about it this way, it doesn’t matter if we create a ripple in a pond if the pond is taking away.”
“Perhaps we should have started with that metaphor,” remarked Loki.
            “Probably,” said (Y/N).
            “Not bad,” admitted Mobius.
“Take us to a real apocalypse, to Ragnarok, we’ll show you!” said Loki.
Mobius chuckled. “Yeah. So you can run away back to your homeland? No.”
“Better try than last time,” said (Y/N).
“I’m not taking you for a stroll along the promenade, much less an apocalypse, said Mobius.
“Oh, Mobius, come on!” complained Loki. “What could possible go wrong?”
“We have to test this theory,” said (Y/N).
“Oh, god.” Mobius sighed. “You’re on the same side on this. I’m hate it.” He crossed his arms. “How do I know Loki isn’t going to just going to stab me in the back?”
“Because I would stop him. I like you,” said (Y/N).
Loki snapped his fingers and pointed at her. “Exactly!”
“(Y/N), you might not lie as much as him, but you still might just…leave,” pointed out Mobius. “Abandon us for some new adventure.”
            (Y/N) shrugged. “That’s fair.”
“Look, if you don’t trust us, you can trust one thing.” Loki held up a single finger. “We love to be right.” Shrugging admittedly, (Y/N) nodded. Mobius pinched the bridge of his nose.

Ranking and Rating We Are the Future Covers
Sooo this may seem like a weird first blogpost, but it’s the only blog I’ve been able to write without my writer’s block getting *TOO* much in the way and I need to do something to keep myself on my self-enforced break from twitter. So this is what we’re getting!
It’s also somewhat fitting to me since We Are the Future by H.O.T. is a song that I for some reason associate heavily with winter. I think it has to do with the fact that, to me, Dreams Come True by S.E.S. is a similar albeit far superior song and Dreams Come True is basically synonymous with winter to me. And, well, it’s winter time, is it not?
Before we get into the ranking and rating though I feel like I should talk about my complicated (that’s being dramatic) feelings about We Are the Future; I feel like it had the potential to be an amazing song but was ruined by the switch-ups of its sound throughout the track. Lots of people may think switch-ups—or whatever the technical term is—is a newer phenomenon within kpop, but it’s really not. H.O.T. did it here, Click-B did it in almost all their songs back in the 90s/00s much to my chagrin, and Girls’ Generation of course did it with I Got a Boy in 2013. And there’s probably several other examples I can’t think of right now.
Anywho, here is my ranking and ratings of We Are the Future covers done by boy groups, ranked from worst to best 🏹
VERIVERY
youtube
It pains me a bit to put VERIVERY dead last on this list because I really do love me some VERIVERY, BUT THEY WEREN’T EVEN SINGING??? They just lip-synced to the original. The styling and dancing were good though so I give them a 5/10.
Wanna One
youtube
They did original production of the song and it really slayed at some parts but at others it was just mediocrity. AND there was not one, but TWO of the raps AKA the worst parts of the original. BUT, Minhyun sounded very pretty as per usual and overall the group did good. I give it a 6/10.
Monsta X
youtube
Their voices sounded soooo pretty on this cover and I loved the original production, I wish I could hear the studio version of this. Plus, you know that Monsta X’s fine asses are always gonna put on a good show so performance wise it was also great. *However* whoever it was that put those illy arranged bandanas on Wonho and Shownu’s head is one of my enemies…
8/10, good job boys!🫶
TVXQ
youtube
They get a ping knocked off for including the rap, but they’re TVXQ so they’re still this high on the list🤭
Changmin and Jaejoong’s voices sounded particularly pretty over this instrumental and I’m obsessed with how Jaejoong just shows up out of nowhere to sing the bridge and then leaves. Major slayage, if you ask me! 9/10!
(NOTE: in order to watch tvxq’s performance, you have to go to its segment in this compilation. Annoying, I know, but I couldn’t find a video of it alone)
EXO
youtube
If I were a petty person, I would knock off a point for the fact that this cover is NOT LONG ENOUGH and has no studio version that I can stream to my heart’s content. Nobody on this planet understands and loves this cover the way that *I* understand and love this cover. The production is pure euphoria, BaekXiuHan sound like angels (and I wish we had gotten more trios with the three of them because gosh do their voices compliment each other nicely), and there’s no wackass rap!!! In conclusion, exo are gods and this cover is 10/10💋

@godblooded said, “ schrodinger—? ” the omnic is peering at the gravity magician with curious — well, curiosity, sleek faceplate tilted in his direction with a question lilt.
One of the unseen benefits of this new arrangement with the Omnic was the new range of permissions he had access to– whereas before he required Sombra’s assistance in attending his late-night wanderings along the Italian countryside, Ramattra provided a reason for him to leave the constrictive carcass of the facility, under the guise that there were mission plans to discuss.
When in reality, it’s the closest he can ever come to tasting true freedom.
It had been such a significant favor to request of the commander, to lie to his superiors simply to earn him a few hours of time to frolic outside without TALON breathing down his neck. And yet, perhaps in a show of sympathy, he had agreed. Sipping greedily on a soda pilfered from a vending machine, he and Ramattra are seated on the edge of a grape vineyard beneath a sea of stars. In truth, he really doesn’t recall how the subject of his dichotomy comes up– but in true SIGMA fashion, he’s quick to talk himself around and around in circles when he divulges sensitive information.
“-- Yes! He developed fundamental results in the field of quantum theory. He is most well-known for a thought experiment in regards to how, when, and whether or not superpositioning states will collapse once a system is observed. The Schrodinger’s Cat premise is that the cat in the thought experiment is both alive and dead simultaneously until it has been observed– ah…”
Tumblr media
“... It is essentially what occurred when I had my laboratory incident back within the COLONY. This is… very outlandish sounding, I am aware! Essentially, something happened in regards to my superpositioning in spacetime, and I somehow became entangled with an alternate version of…. Myself!”
“... It may not seem like it– but we occupy the exact same point in spacetime; that is my current working theory as to how the, ah… “merging” occurred. When we are on the field, and I become hostile– that is SIEBREN! He doesn’t… he does not come out very often.” SIGMA murmurs sheepishly, taking another swig from his half-empty can. “... I am not very adept when it comes to combat, so oftentimes, he must step in and take it from there.”
“... TALON is not aware of his existence thus far– I’ve done everything I can to keep his existence a secret from them… B-but… with you, I think I feel safe enough to share such sensitive information with you!” SIGMA sighs quietly. “... Ever since we were condemned to prison, I feared that… these lesser lifeforms would not understand our entanglement, and that they would try to “fix” it, or “stabilize” our “condition”.”
Tumblr media
“-- c-could I… tell you something else?”
“... I am…I am not even native to this reality. This is actually SIEBREN’S dimension.”

Tumblr media
Thinking about Calpernia and the Tranquil, and I was wondering how she could tolerate her Venatori killing them off to make Oculara when one of the driving pillars of her character is her desire to see people freed from their oppression. It’s not something I had thought about before because the Oculara were never something I associated with Calpernia, but they were created by the Venatori and thus Calpernia should be tied to their existence, right? So I started looking into it, and I’ve come to the conclusion that, no, I honestly don’t think Calpernia tolerated the creation of the Oculara; I don’t even think she was aware of their existence. And here are my reasons why.
1. Who is responsible for the creation/placement of the Oculara?
Alexius. The codices referring to the Oculara place Alexius as the person in charge of their creation and distribution. Not to mention the fact that the Oculara are created in Redcliffe itself and not imported from Tevinter. As Alexius is a known innovator when it comes to magic, it’s feasible he came to this knowledge himself (or directly from Corypheus) and was not given this information by Calpernia. Nothing regarding the Oculara mentions Calpernia at any point, as far as I’m aware.
2. Wouldn’t Calpernia know about it anyway, even if she was not involved directly?
No. As it turns out and is particularly evidenced by her rival quest in DAI, there are many things about the Venatori and Corypheus that Calpernia does not know. The version of the Venatori that Calpernia believes she is leading is a carefully constructed illusion to keep her dedicated to the cause she believes in. Corypheus has done this on purpose. If she knew what he was really using the Venatori for, what he really had planned, she would want no part in it, as evidenced by the option to talk her into betraying Corypheus at the Temple of Mythal.
Moreso, Alexius did not answer to Calpernia. His direct superior was Corypheus himself. I don’t even recall him mentioning Calpernia (if he did the whoops my mistake), and all indications given were that Alexius was in charge of the Venatori in the south, regardless of Calpernia’s positioning as the overall leader of the group. It would have been very easy for the activities of the southern Venatori to be kept from Calpernia given that most of her updates would come from reports where information could be easily omitted, and it is something that Corypheus would certainly find most beneficial if he wants Calpernia to continue believing that their goals are aligned when they are most certainly not.
3. Even if she didn’t know at first, wouldn’t Calpernia find out eventually after Alexius is gone and the southern Venatori are under her direct command?
No. As mentioned, Corypheus maintained a tight control over what information reached Calpernia’s ears. Even after Alexius is gone and she takes direct control over the Venatori in the south, the Oculara have already been placed. Calpernia’s involvement at that point is not with the distribution of the Oculara, but with the shards. With what we know, it’s reasonable to believe that the shards, to her knowledge, were merely found due to disruptions caused by the Breach that revealed their location. The most that Calpernia has to know if she is involved is that these shards are related to an elven temple that Corypheus seeks and that her people should be actively engaged in finding them for the sake of the Elder One. She does not need to be told how the shards are found, as she, the elusive leader of the Venatori, will never be the one to hunt for them. That’s grunt work, and there are better things worthy of her time.
In conclusion, Calpernia does not know about the Oculara or how they are made, and she would not approve if she did know.
At most she knows about the shards, but that’s it. Unless I’m missing something in Inquisition that proves that she does know (which is likely because Inquisition has so much dialogue that I did not feel like digging through it all), this is my answer as to why she allows her Venatori to engage in a practice that directly conflicts with one of her core beliefs: she doesn’t.
If it was a conscious choice by b*oware to distance Calpernia from the Oculara plotline for this reason, then okay that’s nice. It makes sense if you rationalize it as Corypheus purposefully keeping this from her, and I’m okay with that answer.
Or it could all just be a big plot hole and they genuinely forgot about it or chose to ignore the moral dilemma and character inconsistency this would present so they could have a massive glowy skull scavenger hunt side-quest. That’s probably what really happened tbh.

Max Banshees's Review of Artstudio Pro Reviewed on 8/29/18 11:31 AM Goes above and beyond star star star star star I’ve also been telling/yelling everyone to try out this app on instagram, (If you want to see some of my work done on ASP, i’m soyeyoh on insta) because although it’s not advertised as well as procreate, its functions, I think are superior than procreate.again, IMO.Īnyways, thank you art studio pro. All I use is Art Studio Pro, and it’s really all you need.and it’s only a couple more $$?! Like dang. Procreate? Well, let’s just say procreate is “dead” to me now. It is a smaller version of photoshop, and it is freaking AMAZING. These are only some of the features I mentioned, but Art Studio Pro is far, far ahead of procreate in terms of customizing and editing. Art Studio Pro supports kyle webster + your custom photoshop brushes, elastify/liquify, CROPS, has screen recording (duh), unlimited layers, the ability to change the image + canvas size AFTER you created the file, and it has CLIPPING MASKS. HOWEVER- I found out this app through a twitter post a weekish ago. So, before i bought this, i was on the fence to buy this app or not because i already bought procreate, and tried other drawing apps (such as medibang, csp and a couple more) and I liked procreate best. The meh's Review of Artstudio Pro Reviewed on 8/5/18 4:13 AM Overall even as is I really enjoy using the app and have been recommending it. It would be more convenient if it were picking up colors right where my finger is or very close to it. The last thing that kind of gets annoying is the offset of the color picker. It would also be extremely cool to have 3-4 small fave icons near undo for brushes you want to switch between often. It would be so much more useful if I could import a palette there or add on the fly. The colors on the side are a fantastic idea but kind of useless as I haven’t found a way to save colors I want there. I wish it happened it the background without bringing attention to itself. I’m glad it’s there but it’s annoying for it to pop up and halt everything until it finishes. With that said my biggest annoyance has to be the auto save. I love having a familiar interface to work with. This is probably one of my fave art apps on the iPad Pro. I’ve been recommending this to all my artist friends.

Any chance we pc users might get some love too? Would love to move from iPad to pc in the same environment and keep my video recording. You all have been nailing it with these updates lately. ::Jei.'s Review of Artstudio Pro Reviewed on 9/14/18 5:53 PM Nailed it! PC version? star star star star star It would be nice to use a finger to erase for example. I could not find anywhere the options to customize touch controls. Also, this doesn’t affect functionality but it would be nice to have a black interface option.
Ipad artstudio pro full#
It would be nice to be able to position little buttons for our most used actions and tools in the toolbar, at least in full screen mode where you have no access to the menu bar. Having to menu dig to deselect or transform for instance is cumbersome. This app would be amazing if it gave users a bit more control over the interface. This doesn’t occur in Procreate or CSP for example. This occurs even with no cursor offset turned on and is particularly apparent when using a brush with a tilt dynamic, such as a pencil brush. The first thing is likely a bug, but I noticed that the offset between where the Apple Pencil is placed and where the mark is made seems much more noticeable in this app compared to others. It’s just missing a few important things in my opinion. I really like this app and I could see it becoming a go-to on the iPad. Love Blinds You
By Leslie Tayong
Do you have any experience with falling in love with someone only to have fate intervene? It feels like you’re floating through the clouds, and your heart is about to explode. You've thought about him a million times. What is he up to now? And where is he? You constantly want to chat or see him. I know that it seems cringe-worthy, but love blinds you.
In November 2019, we rushed like a machine to the gymnasium since our school was hosting a dual meet and we wanted to cheer loudly on our school’s athletes all day. It was a basketball tournament at that time, and then I saw him. He was the first one I noticed among the varsity players. I didn’t believe in "love at first sight" at all, but then I saw him and I suddenly felt my heart beating at a fast pace. In fact, I believe he was my first love when I was in ninth grade.
I admit that I (or rather, my friends) approached him first, and we also had a chance to snap a photo with him. We started talking on social media and got to know each other. I know it’s quick, but the next time I think about it, I just go with the flow. I felt awkward after that and considered discontinuing our chat, which I did. As time has passed, I’ve become accustomed to life without him. But then, through my account, my cousin wishes him a Merry Christmas. I was humiliated and fearful of being devoured on the ground.
Days and weeks passed, we renewed our chat, and I began to melt my heart for him, but I don’t believe he was feeling the same way. We get along well with each other, but then someone informs me that he and his girlfriend have reconciled. That time, I felt like a knife stabbed my heart and was broken into pieces. I know that I don’t have any right to fight as we didn’t have a label in our relationship. But I know that I have a right to feel hurt because my feelings are also valid. When I confronted him about it, he didn’t dispute that they had it back. After hearing that in his mouth, it resonates far beyond my soul. I felt deceived and like an easy target, yet I believe it was God’s plan to confine me to him. After that, I took a step back. I ended our conversation and went to the heartless yesterday.
I focused myself on my academics and continued to discover new things. I recognized that not everyone would be able to stay. Some people have the power to both fix and break you. I believe it is far superior to the experience I had of going around with little shards of glass in my chest; it led me to a better version of myself and taught me how to appreciate myself. Now I see that I’ve matured and I’m of legal age. I feel disappointed and embarrassed about what I’ve done before, but I think it’s just a part of my teenage life and because of it, it made a stronger version of myself, full of the courage to keep going no matter how bad life gets.

this is a very cynical bomb that i’m about to drop with absolutely no context but they really did just fetishize rio to gain viewership without actually ever giving a shit about his value as a character, and i’ve gotten myself into a bit of a spiral stewing about it.
tw: my opinions again
like i didn’t want to think about my favorite show so negatively before it ended so i tried to steer clear of any posts that discussed it for the sake of my own enjoyment but after how short the finale season fell from my expectations, it’s hard not to be pissed off. because ever since they had beth shoot rio in season two i’ve been waiting for them to reconcile such a gruesome choice by developing the characters further, their relationships, their knowledge of themselves, but it just didn’t happen. beth never took accountability for the shooting, rio never took accountability for kidnapping and pressuring her, and dean never took accountability for his infidelity or faking cancer, which were the three main points of conflict that the writers should’ve focused on resolving before ever even thinking of introducing new conflicts.
i’m not saying i wanted rio to forgive beth, or that i wanted beth to forgive dean, or that i wanted any of these resolutions to happen immediately after their conflicts took place. and sure, you could say that beth’s character compartmentalizes and that beth and rio aren’t good communicators and didn’t have a strong bond of trust to begin with so it wouldn’t be in character for them to discuss what happened, but that’s where character growth is supposed to come in! you’re supposed to write characters with these flaws so that they have a better version of themselves to work towards that is slowly developed as they encounter each conflict. they’re not meant to make them into worse people until the show is entirely unbearable to watch because all of that old resentment and tension is just rotting away beneath the rug it’s been swept under.
it’s not a creative choice to have characters directly create conflict and then never address it again while they move onto the next big thing -- it’s lazy writing, and it makes it crystal clear that they were written in solely to shock the viewers and create tension between the characters, not to cultivate growth, and that is very frustrating when you have a group of characters whose inherent morality is constantly insisted upon.
what’s especially frustrating about this is that it not only means there is a lack of depth to all the characters, but there’s a lack of value to the ones that the writers did not favor. based on the season one storyline that culminated in rio shooting dean and letting beth live -- essentially getting even with her in a way that didn’t involve killing off the protagonist, even though that would’ve been the most likely course of action based on the consequences that other disposable characters suffered (i.e. eddie) -- it’s my belief that the writers didn’t expect to keep rio on the show past season one (honestly, it kind of feels like they didn’t even expect to get another season, based on how messy the storyline felt as the seasons progressed), and therefore didn’t value rio’s character the way the audience came to by season two.
when i say the writers didn’t (and honestly, i still think they don’t -- not in the same way they value the girls, dean, stan, or even fucking boomer) value him, i mean they didn’t see him as being worth the effort of giving a character arc, a background story, personal relationships, etc. they threw in marcus at the start of season two to be like “he’s a dad! that means he has depth!” and then never really touched on it again. there was like, one other scene with marcus that i can remember, and then he, too, was sidelined until they needed to humanize rio again after he got shot. all of the other kids -- the bolands, sarah, harry, and ben -- are regularly featured because they are a driving component of the women’s motivation to survive and succeed. with rio, his kid is only used to relate him back to the women, to make him seem human for a moment, but marcus’s real value as a character lies in how he makes beth feel as she grieves rio, not how he contributes to rio’s behavior, motivation, and overall character.
and yes, i know that rio is technically a side character, that the children of the protagonists are going to have more development, but if they actually wanted to add depth to rio’s character through the facet of parenthood, they would’ve shown more than one interaction with him after he spent supposed months away from him without a word. that kid would’ve been traumatized by that, and seeing rio’s reaction to his kid mourning his disappearance would’ve provided a much more real and interesting angle than them all smiling and happy, like we’ve seen in every other scene with him and marcus. it would’ve showed that the writers care about rio’s pain, about how his absence affected those he loves, but to be blunt, they don’t. they showed beth grieving him when she shot him, but we didn’t see him recovering from that traumatic event. they didn’t even care enough about him to give him fake scars, for christ’s sake.
everything that happened to rio throughout the show was either done to further the other women’s development or appease the viewers, and they made zero effort to hide that. they walked his characterization backwards so many times (him threatening beth’s family when it had been insinuated thus far that that was the only line he wouldn’t cross; him touching her and making suggestive advances on her in exchange for bail money when she was clearly uncomfortable; him returning all of her stuff and happily accepting her as his superior when there was no development in their relationship to suggest he’d forgiven her or would be receptive to her having power over him) and almost every single instance of them using him to promote the show exploited his outward appearance and the fact that so many viewers have fetishized him as this “exotic” bad boy without any regard for how minimizing and insulting that marketing tactic is.
looking through their instagram, i saw no other instance of an actor’s picture being posted next to a bunch of thirsty tweets or captioned as being “another reason to watch good girls.” it’s fetishization disguised as playful, well-intentioned endorsement, but if they were really referring to rio’s character rather than his appearance as a reason to watch the show, we wouldn’t be seeing his face on nearly every episode promo and highlight with him only occupying about five minutes of screen time every 50-minute episode.
there’s not really a neat bow-tie conclusion to this, but what i’m getting at is that the writers wanted it both ways. they wanted the viewership and fan engagement that manny’s character garnered, but they didn’t value him enough to give him the screen time and characterization that he deserved. this resulted in all of the revelations that were made about his character -- his son, rhea, his dynamic with turner, his backstory, his hobby, his grandma, nick -- feeling pretty underwhelming because they were never touched on again. they were there because they had to give us something, but they weren’t important enough to the writers to be expanded upon, to be used for personal growth or connecting with the other characters. i think that’s why it felt like such a hollow victory -- we got exactly what we wanted in theory, but there the foundation of it all was too weak for it to feel truly meaningful.
we wanted rio to be acknowledged and written as a permanent fixture on the show, but instead the rest of the characters were hell-bent on getting rid of him and his primary aspect of redemption was what he meant to beth, not what he meant to the show. even in the finale when she finally came to the realization that she won’t ever be able to give up crime, rio’s role in contributing to her self-actualization was passed over by a character who has been in seven episodes, and i think that really spoke for itself the loudest in terms of how much the writers truly valued him.

Respect and approval in the relationship between Zagreus and Megaera
So, I think a lot of people know that there's a mini storyline between Megaera and Zagreus that proceeds as follows: Megaera brusquely informs Zagreus that his victories against her "don't count" as he couldn't possibly have achieved them without Nyx's help via the mirror. If you respond to this by emptying out the mirror and fighting her, she'll remark on it. This exchange is referenced in an incredible video about Hades' dialogue system that I will link in the comments to this post (since we all know how tumblr is about links) and which I highly recommend if you haven't watched it already.
But I was surprised that the video didn't go on to highlight what is my favorite (and surely relevant to the video?) aspect of this storyline--that once you've beaten Meg like that, the followup conversation at home has three different variants based on how many gifts you've given her!
Spoilers for a lot of late-game, including post-credits, content.
The three variants are low relationship (zero gifts - five gifts); high relationship (six gifts - nine gifts); "became close" relationship (ten gifts).
At low relationship, the conversation is as follows. I apologize but I don't have screenshots for any of these; I'm taking the text from the files.
Megaera: Beaten. By you. Without the help of Nyx's mirror. You humiliated me. And now you've come to rub it in, I guess? Well, go on, then. Not like you can shame me any more. Zagreus: Meg, what is it going to take for you to quit treating me like I'm incompetent? Have I not grown even a little since we met? You were supposed to teach me something; what does that make you? Megaera: Tsch... why don't you raise your voice a little louder so that all the House can hear. Is that what you want? For everyone to know that you're superior to me? Zagreus: You're not hearing me, Meg. I know it sounds a little disingenuous considering we keep fighting to the death and all, but... I never meant to hurt you. Megaera: You give yourself far too much credit, Zagreus. Leave me alone.
At high relationship:
Megaera: Beaten. By you. Without the help of Nyx's mirror. You humiliated me. And now you've come to rub it in, I guess? Well, go on, then. Not like you can shame me any more. Zagreus: Meg, that isn't why I'm here, you know that isn't how I am. Why can't you see it? All I've ever wanted was to prove myself to you. Megaera: Tsch... you think that you can prove yourself to me by winning in a fight? Zagreus: Sometimes I think that I can never really win with you, Meg. If I held back, what would you have thought? Megaera: If you think you know me so well, Zagreus, then you ought to know better than to keep this conversation going with me, now.
(Yeah, that's "high relationship.")
At became close relationship:
Megaera: I can't believe it, Zag. I thought for sure that Nyx's mirror was the only reason you could beat me. I knew you'd changed to some extent, but... not this much. Zagreus: I had to see if I could do it, Meg. I've learned so much from you, I... thought maybe this was a way that I could prove myself to you. And to myself. Megaera: Prove yourself, to me...? You must not be as comfortable in your own skin as you let on. I can't decide if I like that about you. Now leave me alone while I give it some thought.
Which... it's better, right? It's better. It's maybe not great, still. But they are trying.
I mean so let's take this from the top. At low relationship, the conversation is fairly acrimonious on both sides. Feeling humiliated by her loss, Meg lashes out, and Zag snaps in return that if Meg's going to keep treating him like he's incompetent, it's only a reflection on her, who was supposed to teach him something. In this version of their conversation, we see the shadow of the relationship Hades pointedly engineered between the two of them raise its head, and if I were ever asked to textually back up my certainty that Meg, not only Zag, contributed to their breakup, I think I'd cite this. Meg's lack of respect for Zag is clearly a longstanding point of tension. Here, Zag feels like he's done something that ought to earn him her respect, only to be... what? Meg's first line is largely about her own insecurities rather than her opinion of Zag, but at the same time, the assumption that she should be superior, that that's the natural order of things, is baked into it. It's a serious blow to her pride that Zag has upset that natural order, and she's projecting her shame into an assumption that Zagreus is here to pettily gloat. Which is insulting, and Zagreus reacts from that place of insult.
But in his second line, as if he notices her pain, Zag is able to disengage from his anger a little (his portrait shifts from his angry "Defiant" one to his "Empathetic" one), realize that their communication is going a bit awry, and tell Meg that he doesn't mean to hurt her. This does not have the effect he possibly hoped for, and before Meg tells him to hit the bricks she says that he gives himself too much credit--by thinking that he has the capability to hurt her. Now this is a pattern with her, throughout their redeveloping relationship, even at max relationship, even once they're back together: Megaera repeatedly states that Zagreus can't hurt her. Here, it has a clear implication that she thinks Zagreus beneath her, not worth getting hurt over. ...It's absolutely belied by her humiliation in the rest of the conversation, but the scorn with which she makes the assertion is cutting and unkind.
Although... I do wonder. Especially given Zag's statement that he "never meant to hurt [her]"--that doesn't sound like he's just talking about his neat trick of getting past her darkness-free. He's referring to their past, almost certainly, and at 0-5 gifts this is well before he gets around to a proper apology or even his feelingsdump (feelingsdump, er, I'm sorry, "building trust", the "we need to talk" conversation, follows gift#6, the last nectar). What I wonder, sometimes, is--when Megaera says that Zagreus can't hurt her (boy does she love to say that.), if part of what she's saying is that Zagreus is not the only person contributing to the poor relationship between them. This is a thought on a different topic, I guess, and I'm not saying that in this conversation, she suddenly has a flash of insight that she's being kind of shitty and chases him away for that reason. Sincerely, I do think "I'm too good to be hurt by Zagreus" is an emotional habit she has for a sizeable chunk of time--perhaps one she developed as a reaction to their breakup, or as a shield against it as she saw it coming--and is what she means here. But maybe it means something else later. I certainly hope so. Because boy. she really loves to say it.
Let's talk about the variant at high relationship next. You could get this variant anywhere between the last nectar ("We may be immortals, but we're older now") and having given her the second-to-last ambrosia ("I wish I could do over how we started"). Once you give her the last ambrosia (when they drink together), you're in the territory of the final variant.
Meg's still cranky; her first line is the same as in the low relationship variant. It's Zagreus, who is at this time in the process of trying to get back in her good graces, who is less testy in response. I'd say he's clearly still hurt by her response, but he doesn't express that hurt by sniping back at her this time. Instead, he opens up, trying to make his intentions more clear, reminding her that he isn't the type to gloat. He all but says that he wants her respect. And he doesn't get it, here. Frankly, this variant is not much of an improvement on the low relationship one. Meg is less openly insulting, but it's clear that she still doesn't want to be having the conversation.
My thoughts on this variant are similar to my thoughts on some of the ambrosia conversations--and I say this as the most dedicated MegZag shipper you will ever see--in that when I see this, I'm not sure why Zagreus bothers. If, like he says, there's really no action he could take here that wouldn't end in Meg being peeved at him, what is he reaching for? He wants to prove himself to her--why? Is her approval worth having here? When Meg says (to cite the gift nine/third ambrosia conversation) that it's just a question of whether Zag is worth her time, why is it positive that Zagreus's wistful response is to ask her if he is worth her time, then?
Let me start bringing in the became close relationship variant here, starting with the last line of it, because Meg's response to Zagreus outright stating that he wants to prove himself to her is emotionally very similar to her response to Zag asking her if he is worth her time. In both cases, she seems to... not soften, exactly. She seems taken aback. She sees Zagreus's desire for her approval and his vulnerability that he lays bare in front of her, and in both cases, her response is one of uncertainty. She wants time to think about it on her own. She has kept hardening herself in response to the pain of their earlier failure (not every relationship that doesn't work out is a failure but I am quite certain she felt this way about theirs, if only because she was supposed to shape Zagreus a certain way), she hardens herself verbally and defiantly right in front of Zag's damn face, and he answers with wistful vulnerability. She tells him he can't hurt her, and he answers with "OK. But do you care about me? Could you?"
I almost wonder if Zagreus's vulnerability makes Megaera ask herself the same questions that these conversations make me ask myself. That remark she makes, that she's not sure how she feels about Zagreus's insecurity--I wonder if she's seeing how she's contributed to it, and needs time to figure out how to respond more kindly. And not just "more kindly," but in a way that's better for him. In the became close relationship conversation variant, Meg starts off in a much better mood, and offers the approval that--as we've seen in the other variants--Zagreus wants so keenly. However, when he states that as an outright motivation, I think she questions that influence she has on Zagreus, and wavers on whether or not it's a positive one, and wants to withdraw to sort out... everything about that situation. It's not an emotionally vulnerable response, maybe, but I do get the sense that it's a compassionate one.
These two are not perfect. They're coming from a background of a relationship that was arranged for them with the explicit intention of forcing Zagreus to mature--a setup that implicitly (if Hades didn't go ahead and make it explicit which, lbr, he very possibly did) defines Megaera as more mature and therefore superior. That relationship fell apart--and how could it not, with a setup like that--and some time has passed, and now they're stuck in a loop of fighting each other to the death. It's not ideal! But they cared about each other, back during their first relationship. Zagreus outright tells us that he caught feelings. Megaera talks around the same admission--through the rigidness with which she tells Zagreus and herself that they can't return to the way things were, that it isn't possible; through her admission, when Zag says he wishes he could change how they started, that she too "wish[es] for a lot of things." They cared-past-tense and they care-present-tense, but they still have emotional habits from the past, from the imposed hierarchy of their first relationship, and even in the most positive variant of Meg's response to the darkness-free victory, even in some of their biggest steps forward, we see some of those habits rear their head. It's something they have to work on and will continue to work on, I think.
And it's not a hopeless process. One of the best in-game contrasts to this dynamic is (of all things) when Megaera notices that Zagreus has made it onto the Featured Houseservant board. She remarks that never in her wildest fantasies did she imagine that Zagreus would make it up there. Zagreus, I think, doesn't know how to respond to that--he picks up the "wildest fantasies" thread rather than the compliment, bless this horny little man--but Meg is undeterred and points out that he really should be proud of such an achievement. And I think this is the perfect solution to the dilemma that is Zag's desire for Meg's approval, because Meg's uncertainty over that, her sense that it's an insecure concern, is justified. So here, she's showing that she respects his achievement but emphasizing that it's something about him, something he can and should feel intrinsic pride over, rather than just taking pleasure in her extrinsic approval.
This has gotten long (oh god it has gotten long) so I think I'll wrap up here. One of the things I love about Hades is how it doesn't force relationships to be Suddenly Great Now That The Story's Over. Hades and Zagreus are still struggling to figure out a relationship that works. Persephone isn't sure she knows how to be Zagreus's mother. Meg's still not getting along with her sisters (although it has been brought to her attention that she is as culpable in their relationship as they are). I think this point of awkwardness between Zagreus and Megaera--their having to figure out a system of mutual respect where it has not been before--is another example of that pattern. And I think they've got a shot at it. I think they can pull it off.

Welcome, once again, to another of Lellie’s Wild Speculations posts!
Also again, please remember Lellie is not responsible for any potential dispute or injury that you may acquire because you based your facts on this ridiculous post. This is Wild Speculation, m’kay? And I’m an elephant. So.
Okay. I’m interested in the kinds of posts I’ve seen over the last few days about Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton’s engagement. So, I have conducted a very formal, super-sciencey survey of a cross section of Tumblr posts, collecting my data between 9:15 and 9:29AM today (March 19th, 2022). My incredibly scholarly data-gathering methodology was based on a noninvasive technique of my own innovation: I woke up this morning and looked at my Tumblr feed for about 14 minutes. The study sample consisted of a robust 25-50 posts, which I scrolled through while I was waking up a bit ago. Note: No coffee was consumed during the data-gathering phase to preserve the study integrity. I kept a rigorously precise mental tally of my data, which my cat says is accurate to within plus or minus .3 percent, meeting and exceeding the conventional standards for scientific viability.
Tumblr media
This painstaking and completely peer-reviewed research has generated the following general categories of fans’ reaction posts:
1. The “I’m so happy for them” post appears to be far and away the most common memetic, accounting for at an estimated 76% of posts.
2. The straw-man, “stop posting negativity on Zawe, you bastard-people” post is the next most common, based on this study’s findings. This category represents exactly 15% of the study sample.
This category was found to be of particular interest because the research was unable to find a single “negativity on Zawe” post to which the “stop posting negativity on Zawe” posts might have been responding.
Characteristics of this postal group included a higher likelihood than average for expressing uncalled-for, yet impotent threats of violence, a noted preoccupation with imagined slights, and measurably annoying self-righteous and ironic self-insertion.
3. A smattering of posts (roughly 5%) focused exclusively on the poster’s experience of Tom Hiddleston not falling in love with them, personally. Subcategories included the “my life is over,” and “I will never love again” commentary also prevalent in similar studies (see Jonas, N. 2014 and Timberlake, J. 2009). The research team finds these posts to be primarily tongue-in-cheek, but detects an underlying wisp of genuine ennui that makes us concerned about the sample’s chances of finding The One For Them before it’s too late. Let’s face it; the study sample isn’t getting any younger. Maybe they should try meeting someone at hatha yoga. We just want them to be happy.
4. Exactly 3% of the posts fit into the category of “why isn’t anybody talking about Tom and Zawe getting engaged?” Sub-themes included two distinct trends: “I’m superior to these celebrities because they’re not famous enough to have their engagement announced as a special report interrupting the Ukraine coverage on all news feeds” and “Omigawd, I’m so worried about Tom’s career if people aren’t talking about his engagement!”
5. Exactly 3% of the posts fit the opposite position represented in Category 4, above. Category 5 was termed the “You guys! Respect their privacy, omigaw!” category, which correlated strongly with Category 2.
6. Precisely 20% of all posts studied fit the “Duh, we been done known they’re engaged” category, which featured comments like, “He put a ring on it 6 months ago, Jared,” “CNN, I could do your job,” and “One word: Ibiza.” “Vanity Fair? More like Vanity Square!” was not amongst the comments, but that would have been funny.
The themes outlined above were nonexclusionary; some posts contained overlapping versions of these themes. One particularly drunk-sounding post featured all of the above; however, this outlier post was struck from the record because I never actually posted it.
Conclusion:
People be trippin’ and/or not trippin’ about Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton getting engaged.
For Future Study:
Please don’t request to see my raw data; I don’t have time for that. Plus I forget now. What were we talking about? I’m really, really certain about the accuracy of my study though, because I just feel like it’s right. Plus, I put it on the Internet, which makes it factual.

While the art is left to be desired (i'm hope i use this ohrase right, my english is awful). I suprised that i found future state!Jason to be more enjoyable than Urban Legend one. Like he's way more capable there and [spoiler alert] also Bruce depend on him and still call him son? So you can have a bad ass Jason and good son jason at the same time.
So I need to apologize because this turned into a rant about Jason's characterization as whole and MAN is it long-winded and I'm sorry.
I have to agree. I really like the characterization Future State/Dark Detective is going for with Jason.
Tumblr media
Jason is still the typical Jason we've grown to expect. Cold, cynical, snarky, willing to cross the dark red line and kill if need be, but he's still shown to have emotions. When he's betraying the family it's vocalized by Jason that he's upset about the situation. He doesn't want to, but he must for the mission Bruce put him under.
Truth be told, I'm not fully caught up on Future State/Dark Detective. I've kind of been reading spoilers and just getting the general gist in the periphery from people like you on Tumblr. I've been more focused on Urban Legends, which, while I will say I still don't hate the story, hell we still have two issues left of Cheer, and I by no means think Chip Zdarsky is a bad writer by any means. His characterization of Jason irks me.
Tumblr media
*God I was so on the fence about Eddy Barrow's take on Jason until Issue #3. That right there? THAT. That's a handsome ass man Maurry*
ANYWAYS: I'm irked by Zdarsky's take on Jason just because of how hot headed and brash Jason is. Now don't get me wrong, every main writer for Jason has taken a bit of a different spin and while the big characters who have written Jason (Judd Winnick, Scott Lobdell, Tony Daniel) and while Zdarsky seems to be what I'm hoping to be a bit of a medication of Jason & Bruce's relationship. He's doing it at the expendature of Jason's characterization of being a damn near criminal mastermind.
If we focus on Winnick and Daniel's interpretation of Jason (Winnick wrote the original Under the Hood & Lost Days. Daniels wrote Battle for the Cowl) as well as all Pre-New 52 versions of Jason. Jason is a monster. Like genuinely a horrible human being. He still fights for right moral side (he kills mostly child abusers/drug traffickers and the likes) but this Jason is genuinely unhinged and while smart, he's absolutely monster. Hell, in Battle for the Cowl after hearing Bruce's final words, he has a villainous breakdown. Dresses as batman, and starts killing people. Judd Winnick himself said he sees Jason as a 'Psychopath' and there are a lot of very vocal people who say Winnick's original interpretation of Jason as a violent, misanthropic villain is the superior version and that Jason should return to this.
Tumblr media
*I love to point out that I made a post on my alt account questioning Jason's age in this issue. Turns out he's Like SEVENTEEN. I get why they draw him older and more mature because of his darker/more villainous tendencies. But there's something kind of True Crime Podcast host fascination I have with this greasy, crusty, 17 year old who just casually kills 30 mobsters in horrific gun violence and calls it a day.*
Then we have the New 52. And in comes Red Hood & The Outlaws + the eventual Red Hood: Outlaw series. Piloted by the one Scott Lobdell. Now I know a lot of people dislike Lobdell for his takes on certain characters, his all-over-the-place writing style. (Let's not forget his allegations of SA and the fact that he openly admits that he wrote Jason as a self-insert for a 'bad guy seeking redemption') this was my first comic experience with Jason and to be honest, I can't bring myself to hate it. Sure there's some parts that literally show how much of a dumpster fire Lobdell's writing can become, but for the most part I genuinely liked the characterization of Jason that Lobdell gives. Jason may be a bit more reactionary and just kind of making shit up as he goes along, but he's far from dumb. The intro to the series has Jason sneaking into a terrorist run nuclear sub and killing everyone inside.
Tumblr media
Again: Lobdell's writing is all of the place. But I do like that his take on Jason is a bit more subdued. I know in the New 52 they wanted to make Jason an Anti-Hero. Someone who very much still driven by emotion and revenge. But he's definetly more relaxed and even has a lot of fun. Intelligence wise he has is moments, but it does emphasize that while he may be the best read Robin, he does have a tendency to leap before he looks. Also all the art for RHATO with the exception of a few series were TOP TIER. I understand why they hired artists like Kenneth Rocafort and Dexter Soy to rehabilitate his image. I mean, come on.
Now if we're talking about Jason's intelligence, I'd be absolutely remiss if I didn't discuss Red Hood: Outlaw and the Price of Gotham Arc. Specifically this exchange between Bruce & Jason. To me, this is the single best part of Lobdell's run and shows Jason's true intelligence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To give a rundown: After Bruce banished Jason from Gotham after seemingly killing the Penguin. Bruce proceeded to find Jason and literally beat him to within an inch of his life. It took MONTHS for Jason to recover. A lot happens but mostly Jason finds out (from Bruce no less) that Penguin is still alive. Jason hatches a devious plan. He takes over the iceberg lounge, kidnaps and holds Penguin hostage. Publically outs himself as Jason Todd, the dead ward of Bruce Wayne, as alive and well, and the new owner of the Iceberg Lounge.
When Bruce finds out he's clearly pissed and goes to confront Jason because he's banished him from Gotham. But because Jason outed himself as alive and one of Bruce's sons. Batman can do NOTHING. Jason has Bruce by the balls. If Bruce does anything to Jason while he's out and alive as Jason, all Jason has to do is tell the truth. And the whole Batman jig is up in an instant. And Bruce? After these panels? He runs off with his tail between his leg because he can't touch Jason. And all Jason did was capture penguin, and come out as alive. THIS is the Jason that I love. This is the Jason that strikes fear into people's hearts.
I think a lot of the general complaints we see about Jason as a whole is just how inconsistent he is with his writing. Which I agree. It's hard to characterize Jason well when there's been a character like Lobdell who was at the Helm of Jason's character for 10 years and then forced to leave. And I don't really know if DC has any really solid plans for his character and development. There's a lot of hype surrounding the end of Cheer and them saying it'll 'change Red Hood & Batman's relationship forever' as well as with Jason being featured in the new Suicide Squad coming this August, and Jason getting a feature in an issue of Robin. It'll be interesting to see where they take the character. Personally I do want a resumption of Jason. But like Harley Quinn where they're taking their sweet time redeeming her. Jason has done A LOT of awful things and of they wanna make him a hero, I want a few years to pass in terms of monthly issues before we see Jason become a hero again.

Happy 5th Anniversary Persona 5.
I don’t know what it is about this game that really grabbed me so much this year. I started playing it in February, around when Persona 5 Vanilla was free for PS5 users, and I had been putting the game off for years, despite my best friend begging me to play it so many times. I had said “sure I’ll check it out some time” ever since 2018, and in February of this year I finally downloaded it from the PS store for free and played it for the first time. I was hooked
I still can’t really fathom what about Persona 5 just hooked me in instantly. Normally when I get into a new game, franchise, show or whatever, I will obsess about it for a couple weeks or maybe a month, and then I’ll kind of just move on from it; not forget it entirely, but I will have moved on to another topic. Persona 5 grabbed me and I had entered my usual obsession. Of course, Persona 5 is a long ass game so naturally it took me about a month to complete, but not once had I dropped it. I spent that entire month of February/March blasting my way through the story. Most games I would drop for a while and come back later to complete, because I have other things in the way. Nah I became fully invested once I had completed the first palace. I even purchased Persona 5 Royal because my friend told me it was the superior version, which meant I had to do the first palace all over again and pick up where I left off, but I didn’t mind, that first plot arc was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had with any media. I bopped to the soundtrack of course, which is genuinely one of the best OSTs I’ve ever heard, and only inspired me to play through more of the game to hear more of the music. One I heard Blooming Villain and Rivers of The Desert for the first time, I just vibed so hard. My best friend told me it would probably take me 2 months to beat Royal but I actually beat it in about a month and a week. After that I wasn’t done, fuck no; I bought Persona 5 Strikers because it had just come out around the time I started playing vanilla, and I beat that in about a week, amazing fucking game again, I can’t even come up with the words to explain. At this point I was fully into watching videos about Persona, retweeting stuff on Twitter, following blogs, accounts, channels, anything Persona related. I then looked into the older games, and decided to play Persona 4 Golden. I bought it on steam and blasted my way though that, and I think I had just amount of fun as I did with P5, and I really didn’t think I would because of the older mechanics and stuff but fuck was I wrong. That games soundtrack and characters I would argue even tops some of the ones from P5 but at this stage I think I love them equally. At this point my room had already been decorated in Persona 5 posters, merch, artwork, and I had already purchased merchandise and t-shirts. Then I found out I could buy Persona 3 FES on the PS3. I still haven’t gotten that far in Persona 3 yet thought because unlike the time I downloaded Persona 5, I am no longer unemployed in a lockdown so I don’t have as much time anymore to fully invest myself but man I have not forgotten. I am still in on this obsession, after 7 months I am still in love with this series. I can’t even remember what my life was like before I played Persona 5, it’s heard to even think about my life before then. But anyway this is just a big long ramble about Persona as we’ve reached the 5 year anniversary in Japan, and I just want to make a big post sharing my love and experience with the series.
Here’s my Persona collection so far. Just this week I managed to find Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and Persona 4 and I didn’t even mind spending an extra buck for them. I will be looking forward to expanding my collection. I am so excited to see what’s to come for the 25th anniversary announcements and I will be ready for Persona 6.
