Remember this post I made yesterday?

Here is the result of that, as a WIP Wednesday treat :3

He slid his hands out from under Caleb and pushed himself off of his chest. Caleb regretted the loss of warmth, but the feeling fled as Essek shifted his weight forward and brought them face to face. Balancing on one hand, he cupped the back of Caleb’s neck with the other and swept his thumb along his jaw and beneath his ear. His eyes moved across Caleb’s face, his brow furrowed with deliberate concentration as he took in every feature. Eventually, his gaze came to rest on Caleb’s, and he leaned in, drawing closer, closer.

Their foreheads knocked, and Essek’s eyes fell closed. “I will miss you,” he breathed, “most dearly.”

“As will I.”

With a tilt of his chin, Essek pressed his lips to Caleb’s. When Caleb responded in kind, the hand at his neck tightened and pulled him closer.

Essek’s mouth wandered, moving to Caleb’s chin and jaw and cheek, then back to his lips. Each kiss, however, was slow and sure, fierce in its tenderness.

Exploration of the now-offline Far Cry 5 official websites

Introduction

I used the Internet Archive, also known as the Wayback Machine, to see what the official Far Cry 5 websites used to look like between May 2017 and February 2020. On or before September 25th, 2020, the site changed and a lot of information about the game and its character disappeared. This is what I was interested in recovering.

In the posts, for convenience, you will see me use the terms “American website” and “European website”. While there were theoretically 19 versions, there were only two different layouts and appearances.

All the available languages and locations, according to the U.S. version.

The “American” layout was used for:

Canada (English & French) - /en-ca/ & /fr-ca/

Mexico - /es-mx/

The U.S. - /en-us/

Brazil - /pt-br/

And the “European” one was for:

Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland (“Nordic English”) - /en-nordic/

France - /fr-fr/

Germany - /de-de/

Italy - /it-it/

The Netherlands - /nl-nl/

Poland - /pl-pl/

Russia - /ru-ru/

Spain - /es-es/

The U.K. - /en-gb/

Australia - /en-au/

The Chinese (/zh-tw/), Arabic (/ar-ar/), Japanese (/ja-jp/), and Korean (/ko-kr/) Far Cry 5 sites were apparently not properly archived, but the ones that most often were and that I recovered all the content from were the U.S. and U.K. versions, which is also why I ended up choosing the generic terms American and European (even though they are not always geographically accurate).

The current Far Cry 5 website, as I’m writing this, is www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/far-cry/far-cry-5

The old sites I was interested in were far-cry.ubisoft.com/game and far-cry.ubisoft.com/farcry5, and more specifically far-cry.ubisoft.com/game/en-us/, far-cry.ubisoft.com/farcry5/en-us/, far-cry.ubisoft.com/game/en-gb/, far-cry.ubisoft.com/farcry5/en-gb/. To change the language/region, you just have to replace /en-us/ or /en-gb/ with another tag; I included them all in the lists above.

In each post, there will be two parts: Recovered content and Commentary. In the first one, I will post what I found in the archives, and in the second, compare all that information with the final version of Far Cry 5 to see what has changed and what still seems relevant.

So what do you do when your favourite rapper makes a catchy song about the hardships of life that you want to love but upon release can’t connect with at all and after a few listens almost outright dislike because none of the pain and hardship life has put you through has ever made you a better person or given you the energy/motivation to do better and it actually just did the complete opposite and you’ve lost out on precious years of your life and so many opportunities while trying to process the trauma and undo the damage

But everyone else seems to love the song to the point that you start to wonder if maybe you’re just a fucking idiot for not being able to make something good out of said trauma and hardship instead of just being filled with crippling anxiety and depression and bitterness and grief and rage

clinical rotations…. officially finished! I did it yall! 15 months of rotations and today I finally finished my last day as a student doctor! graduation is just 20 days away and I’ll earn my degree in veterinary medicine! also crossing fingers next week I get my NAVLE results and hopefully (begging and pleading and praying) to pass and earn my license too!

it’s been the craziest, busiest, intense, exhausting, yet surreal experience ever! but I did it and I learned so much! now to enjoy the next 3 weeks of relaxation now that I’ve officially completed my clinical year of being a veterinarian extern!

So are any of you bumfucks on this godforsaken app gonna talk about how Brazil (Declan McKenna) was written By and For Ronan Lynch or am I gonna have to do it myself let’s do this bitches

Fair warning I’m sorta really bad at analysis according to every English teacher I’ve ever had so this is a lot of me freaking out but I think it turned out ok (this took half a year)

Starting off strong with Cars and Animals (Ronan’s favourite) !! Anyway the vibe I’m getting from this is like. The barns and then the He’s got eyes talks like an angel looks like me part is about the like. Greywaren vs Ronan Lynch dream vs human stuff we see in Greywaren (not super spoilery but it kinda doesn’t make sense unless u read the book lmao)

I could write a whole second post as long as this one just about this line but let me unpack this because ohhh my god. First up the use of religion is so perfect for mister Lynch over here and then. IM THE FACE OF GOD IM MY FATHERS SON IS INSANE FOR HIM IM GOING SO FERAL OVER THIS HE LITERALLY IS GOD AND HES HIS FATHERS SON (“and Ronan was everything that was left: molten eyes and a smile made for war” and also The Scene in TRK where Adam goes into Ronan’s room and thinks Niall is sitting on the bed) THIS IS CANON

He’s Not what u think u see he looks so mean but he just wants his little farm and for his husband to get into heaven when he dies (he’s worried about his agnostic tendencies) jk but this is 100% ab stereotypes and how Ronan doesn’t rly fit into what anyone thinks he is (the whole thing about Adam wanting to be unknowable and realizing Ronan Is Unknowable [poetry chefs kiss])

Can’t eat leather is so self explanatory. The bracelets are RIGHT THERE you can’t fool me Mr mckenna

I’m done. I’m done. I don’t even need to keep explaining this it’s RIGHT THERE AGH

And onto the ecoterrorism

I’m kidding (not really) bc this part always makes me think of literally the Entire Plot of TDT when Ronan is going around destroying capitalism to save dreamers. This IS the servers scene and the underwater pipeline and the Mirrors lady and also the way all of TDT is about self discovery and learning who you are and how to deal with that in a society made to destroy you and how isolating and sad that is (it gets him down 😞) and I can KEEP GOING

And just the way the song is so melancholy and also happy at once hits me so hard cause it feels like what the Barns does when you read the book like it SOUNDS like something Aurora would sing to kid Ronan it’s so homey and sweet but also sad and perfect

And obviously I don’t go through the whole song here but I feel that I’ve made my case sufficiently enough thanks for reading this far I love u mwah
