Hobie brown x Villain Fem Reader
You were a villain, enjoying a lavish life style as well as being highly respected in the crime world. You had a reputation of being very cunning and skilled. Until The Spider man can’t seem to stay out of your way.
The top of your secluded mansion you stare out the window into the crashing sea bellow black and vicious. The foot steps of you employe scuttle into view he is 15 minutes late to his “midnight lose your job”meeting. You turn to face him elegant glossy hair waves and frames your sharp face.
“I try hard to keep cool about these kinds of things” You say slowly circling around the man. The employee is giving you a dirty look trying to act above you. Doesn’t he understand? He is a hired gun a grunt. Your hands are clenched into fists behind you back but your face is calm. He has damaged your reputation and the reputation of your company by allowing his shitty self to be associated.
“I tell you time and TIME AGAIN!” Burst into rage. Your buzzing hands push a chair to the ground. Its crashes and thuds. The employees breath picks up in fear. Your ears pick up instantly. You sense the fear.He know he isn’t in you favour anymore and anyone who knows you has heard about you rage. He know he has messed up the simple task you give him.
“Obviously your time here is over your contract will be terminated” You head over to your desk. Elegant black furniture the night sky shining through red lighting coloring the room. You guide his contract to the shredder and point to the door.
“Out. “ you murmur.
He hesitates. OUT! OUT! OUT! Plays in your head a rhythmic senseless beat. Your fist clench and nostrils flare. He finally leaves you alone in the large room.
I need therapy you think to yourself sitting down at your desk. I want to be isolated. Different. To any other masochistic villain of the week. I have no problem with the spider man I just need to support my life style. That’s it I never wanted to harm anyone but it’s becoming out of my control.
You sit up to find your gun. After the freak out on your worker you were unnerved. Another enemy to avoid or kill. A noise.
“Helllloooo” you whispered quietly. “Fuck I’m losing it ha ha ha” You laugh with no emotion.
After a steamy shower pink robe and bunny slippers still didn’t bring comfort. Eyes. Eyes on you. You turn your head and listened. You heart bangs in your ears. Where ever you go it’s never safe.
“Hullo”
You swung around. Aimed and fired. The sharp sound of a bullet and the fiery smell.
The spider man dodges sliding down and away while lifting his hand up in the air. His taller than you, it’s the first thing you notice his threatening hight. He has a mask on, your face feels bare. You lunge at him ether way.
“I’m going to kill you.” You swing you gun trying to pistol whip him, gliding closer towards him.
“Hey hey hey little lady I’m here to talk business” He says fleeing to behind you desk. Great there’s no way the respond “charming” hight jokes without sounding like a pick me. Why don’t I just kill him.
“I’m above average hight freak” you slide bellow the desk before he can react grabbing his legs pulling him to the ground. You shove your gun to the back of his head.
“Business hours are before midnight meathead… I know you have my number dick , you must be desperate huh? Is that it? You left me alone to long now you want to check up on me”
You didn’t know the half of it.
Heyyy guys!
Tell me if you want a part 2 ( I will write one regardless😛) and tell me what your thought. This is more of an intro to the story I will take it further if there is any interest!
THANK YOU FOR READING!! ❤️❤️

Where you should be
Chapter 2: Tacenda
Tumblr media
Genre: Hobi x oc
Warnings: this series contains stalking, blackmail, and similar stressful/fear inducing situations. Also unrequited love, which is perhaps the most terrifying of all.
Word Count: 3.4k
Tacenda (n.) things better left unsaid; matters to be passed over in silence
February 2019 - Continued.
“No.”
One syllable. A thousand pound weight pressing down on me.
Hoseok turns away before I can see if he believes me or not, his attention honing in on a black SUV that belongs to the company. A moment later, Do-yun is hopping out of the car with a deathly serious expression on his face.
I remain in the car when Hoseok gets out to speak with him, leaning up against the hood with his arms crossed. Their conversation is muffled, but I can still hear them clearly.
Do-yun is supposed to go back to the apartment to grab some necessities; and also do some snooping.
They’re speaking about the entire experience, Do-yun needs to know exactly what went down in order to understand if the people he’s supposed to protect have a new stalker. I never realized that his services could extend to me.
Leaning forward in my seat, I drop my head into my hands and close my eyes. It’s all too easy for my thoughts to drown out the sound of the conversation taking place just outside.
“Have you seen him before?” “No.”
Why couldn’t I just stick with a generic, ‘I don’t know’? Because the reality of the situation is simple: I really don’t. I have no idea who he is. Have I seen him before? Honestly, I might have. I might not have.
He’s only ever worn his hood and a mask before.
There’s no denying his aura, though. The man emits a certain dangerous air about him that has the majority of my apartment complex sticking together in groups of two or more. I just never thought that he would be after me.
Then again, maybe he’d heard about a certain idol dropping off a girl several times a week, and thought he should check it out. After all, Hoseok and the rest of the boys are no strangers to stalkers.
Judging from the stern look on Do-yun’s face as Hoseok’s back turns rigid, he takes these kinds of situations very seriously.
What kind of trouble have I landed us in?
The sound of a door opening has me lurching back upright, Hobi’s arm outstretched as he tries to calm me down like a startled animal.
“Hey, sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” he says. “Wanna hop out?” I do as he says, clenching my jaw as the chill of early spring hits me.
Do-yun steps forward, giving me a warm smile that is at odds with his muscular figure. “Hey, Sunny. How’re you feeling? You had quite the scare, it sounds like.”
I nod, staring down at his shoes. Hoseok’s arms encircle me, and he begins rubbing some warmth back into my shoulders.
“She was smart, though,” Hobi comments. “Locked the doors. She noticed way before I did.”
“Good.” Do-yun shuffles on his feet. “I’ll head over to your apartment complex now, would you like me to grab anything for you? Toothbrush? Clothes?”
I furrow my brows, looking back up at him, and then to Hobi. “Am I not going back tonight?” I thought that Do-yun was here to escort me back to my apartment.
Hobi’s hands pause in their ministrations. “Rin-ah, there’s no way you’re going anywhere near that guy. Just…” he pauses, then begins warming me up again. “Stay here tonight. I’ve got plenty of space. I’ll give you a ride to work in the morning, too.”
My frown doesn’t leave my face as I hand over my key to Do-yun, explaining what I need and where everything is. He promises to be back soon with my things, instructing me to jog my memory for any memories of the mystery man.
Once again I lie and say I will.
Once back inside Hobi’s apartment, I stand in the doorway like a ghost. It’s empty in here, now. Everyone else has gone home. And despite having been a frequent guest over the past month, I can’t help but realize just how different this is.
Hobi notices my obvious hesitation, and steps back over to the doorway. Crouching down, he unties my shoes for me.
“I’m sorry about tonight,” he starts, gently tapping on my ankle to signal for me to take the shoe off. “That was...horrible.”
I stare down at where he begins to untie the next shoe, watching his deft fingers at work. There’s a part of me that’s mesmerized by him and his kindness, the way he seems to fill me up with only a look. Yet, there’s another part of me that knows that all of this is wrong. Wrong, and I’m not doing a single thing to stop it.
“It was.”
My voice sounds like I haven’t used it in years, and Hobi glances up at me with concern in his eyes. He rises to his feet, and I kick off my other shoe before putting it on the rack. When I turn back around, Hobi stands just before me.
So close.
“I’m sorry.” He whispers.
Despite the circumstances, I still manage a wry smile. “How many times are you going to apologize for something that wasn’t your fault?”
What I’d hoped would make him relax only has him frowning. “What if it is my fault?” I open my mouth to protest, but Hobi stops me. “I’m willing to bet that somebody recognized me dropping you off and tipped some reporter off. I should’ve been more discreet, I shouldn’t have been so careless with you. You’ve already had agencies trying to track you down, I’m not helping by-”
My hand moves of its own accord, coming to rest over Hobi’s mouth as I effectively shut him up. Watching as his eyes widen a bit, I sigh.
“It’s nobody’s fault, so quit blaming yourself right now.”
Stepping around him and walking toward the living room, I glance back at him over my shoulder. He stands there frozen, running his hands through his hair as though contemplating tearing it out.
We’ve made it through two episodes of The Office by the time Do-yun returns. His visit is quick, he drops off my few belongings and doesn’t say much on what else he found out. He simply states that he couldn’t find a man that fit the description Hobi gave him, but he did speak with the landlord briefly.
Apparently more will be analyzed in a meeting tomorrow with Bang PD. The thought of tonight being discussed with Bang PD nearly makes me sick, and I excuse myself to use the bathroom.
The process of hiring me was a long and complicated one. Honestly, I’m still in shock that it even happened. Due to the extensive hiring process, there were a few things that Bang PD made absolute sure to emphasize when creating my contract.
1. My 7 year contract with Bighit entertainment would immediately be under fire if I began entertaining job offers from competing agencies even a day before my contract officially ended.
This, of course, made perfect sense. Most contracts have something to the same effect; which is why when I was still under Source entertainment I had to be very careful when traveling to Bighit during my trial period. It would have been a complete mess if they’d found out about me, and Bighit would have most likely not hired me just to save themselves from controversy.
Over the past few months of employment at Bighit, I have received my fair share of ‘trackers’ from other agencies that are wondering where Ha-rin from Source entertainment disappeared to. So far, I’ve managed to avoid them, thus saving myself and Bang PD from criticism. Most people have no idea that Jung Ha-rin and Sunny are the same person. I’d like to keep it that way.
2. It is not allowed, under any circumstances, for me to become involved in any sort of relationship that goes beyond the label ‘friendly’ with idols under the Bighit label.
What does this mean for me when Do-yun enters the meeting tomorrow with Bang PD with the story of J-hope and Sunny out late and running into a potential stalker? What does it mean for me when he finds out that I stayed at his top idol’s apartment?
It’s grounds for termination. And right now, exiting the bathroom and heading back downstairs in my pajamas, following the sounds of the TV, I know that I can’t afford to be fired. Not now, just when the world is starting to open up for me.
Not now, when I finally found someone I can trust.
“Sorry, I started the next episode without you,” Hobi says from where he’s sprawled out on the couch. “Do you want me to start it over?”
I shake my head, pulling my phone out. “No, that’s fine. I think I should head to bed, anyways.”
Jumping up from the couch, Hoseok strides over to me. “Good idea. You’ve had quite the day today. Good thing the mattress for the guest room got here last week, isn’t it?” He chuckles to himself as I remember the day I came over for dinner and found a project waiting for me instead. Together with Taehyung and Jimin we put together the bed, but not without a large amount of yelling and collapsing dramatically to the ground.
I snicker at the memory, watching as Hobi goes before me to open the door and flick the light on. The light blue tones of the room welcome me and I nearly start sobbing at how soft the bed looks. I really do need to sleep.
Arranging my clothes for the next day, Hobi hesitates in the doorway. I speak up for him.
“Thanks for letting me stay the night, Hobi. I really appreciate it.”
He perks up at the sound of my voice, the sight making me both melt and wince at the same time. “Of course. Anytime. You know that, don’t you?”
I frown, turning to look at him. He stands there looking a little uncertain, his hand clutching the door handle for dear life.
“Know what?”
He shrugs, looking anywhere but at me. “That I’m here for whatever you need.”
I think I’m starting to understand it. “I...thank you. Really.”
He mumbles out a goodnight before gently closing the door behind him, the sound of his feet padding down the hallway making me smile before I even realize why.
My smile is wiped off my face quick enough when I remember what I need to do. There’s no need to get Hobi in this mess; heaven knows he’s got enough on his plate already. Pulling my phone out, I type in the contact info until Bang PD’s contact pops up.
The message takes a long time to write out, but I want to make sure I’m very clear in it. I explain the situation, how Hobi and I are good friends and that this is all just some big misunderstanding. I beg him not to take it the wrong way; that first and foremost we are professionals.
For the second time that night, I lie. Typing out the words, ‘I have no feelings for him’ seems nearly impossible, but I manage to do it.
Just when I start to feel sorry for myself, I remind myself that this is what I signed up for. This is what I wanted, isn’t it? Have a shot at Bighit, produce some music and make some friends along the way?
That’s what we are, I chant in my mind over and over again as my fingers fly over my phone. Just friends.
It doesn’t take long for Bang PD to reply. I can’t really blame him if this is the fastest he’s ever responded to my texts; we are talking about one of his greatest assets after all. He certainly wouldn’t want J-hope, the sunshine of the world, to be caught sneaking around in the dark with the producer Bighit bought out an entire company for.
I can already see the tabloids with their blaring headlines, claiming that Source entertainment was bought out just so J-hope could get with some girl. Not only would it tarnish both our image, it would make GFRIEND a laughing stock. How would it feel to be the group that was tossed around agencies just so your producer could get a shot at love?
It’s not true. Not of it is true. Yet I can already picture how it would be, shouting that at reporters over and over again as they laugh and ask why not? Why else would I be hired?
Why else would some 20-something producer from the middle of nowhere be hired on at one of the most successful agencies in k-pop history?
I’m staring at my phone, at the six-word answer Bang Sihyuk typed out. With the vision of my life being ruined as well as many others, I see the wisdom in his words.
That doesn’t mean it doesn’t still sting.
1:42 am Bang PD - Bighit: End it before it can begin.
I’ve been discovering patterns on the ceiling for nearly twenty minutes when a quiet knock on my door pulls my attention away.
Laying here on Hobi’s guest bed, I keep finding the same message over and over again traced on the ceiling.
End it before it can begin.
What is that even supposed to mean? Was I not clear enough in my message? Did he know I was lying when I said I felt nothing for Hobi?
Maybe he wants me to draft a statement for the press, have one ready to go in case all of this goes south. Maybe he’s expecting my resignation in the morning.
However, when I hear Hoseok knocking on my door, I know exactly what Bang PD meant by his message. And I hate him for it.
A couple of seconds pass before Hobi slowly opens my door just enough to peek in. When he sees that I’m awake, he gives me a sheepish smile before stepping inside.
He must have just finished getting ready for bed; he smells amazing. His skin is glowing with that fresh just-washed glow, and he’s wearing a robe over his t-shirt and shorts.
It’s a look that anybody else would look subpar in. And yet, I can’t help the way my eyes widen a little just to be able to see more of him.
“I saw that your light was still on and decided to come check on you. Why are you still up?”
His reasoning has me smiling softly at him before I remember why I was still up in the first place. Eyeing my phone that sits on the nightstand, I pray that Bang PD doesn't decide to call me right now.
“Couldn’t sleep,” I don’t mean for it to come out as a whisper, but it does anyway. Hobi nods, edging in closer.
When he finally stands before my bed, I move over just enough for him to take a seat. He smiles at our unspoken communication, and my heart withers as I remember what I’ve just been told to do.
But what if there’s nothing to even stop?
It’s that kind of thinking that finds me with my head resting in Hobi’s lap, eyes closing as he feathers through my hair. He asked what usually helped me to relax, and I didn’t even hesitate that people playing with my hair was the way to do it.
I’m barely clinging to consciousness at this point, a layer of goosebumps rising when Hobi’s fingers scratch over a particularly sensitive part of my scalp.
“You drove so fast tonight,” I mumble out, not even bothering to open my eyes. Hobi’s quiet laugh trickles down to me.
“I did, didn’t I?”
“I even told you to slow down, but you completely ignored me.” My voice is heavy with sleep, but Hobi doesn’t seem to mind. It’s a wonder that he’s still so coherent.
“You did?” He lets out a breathy laugh. “I didn’t even notice. My mind was elsewhere, I think.”
I peek one eye open, watching as he smiles down at me, his finger coming down to trace a line from the crown of my head to the tip of my nose.
“Where was your mind?” I ask, completely aware that I might not be making the most sense.
Hobi shrugs. “I just knew I had to get you out of there. Do you know that was the first time I ever felt comfortable driving?”
I hum in response, my eyes falling shut again. Hobi resumes his pattern, occasionally trailing his fingers along my cheekbones or tracing my eyebrows.
If I were more awake, I’d be redder than a tomato. Thankfully this is happening way past my bedtime. Although a part of me knows that I’ll be freaking out in the morning.
“Rin-ah,” Hobi whispers. “Can I talk to you about something?”
I’ve had enough heart-stopping moments for one night, this just about kills me. Groaning as I sit up, I try to focus on Hoseok.
“Can’t this wait until morning, Hobi?” I hide my yawn behind my hands. “I’m so tired now. I nearly just fell asleep.”
Hobi shakes his head earnestly. “No, it can’t. I don’t think I’ll be able to say it in the morning.”
Suddenly I’m wide awake.
Looking at him warily, I chew on my options of what to say. “Are...are you sure? I think we’re both really tired and out of our minds after tonight-”
“I’ve been out of my mind for a while now, RIn-ah.”
My mouth snaps shut as Hobi turns to face me fully, our knees grazing. “Are you calling yourself insane?”
Hobi laughs, the sound reminding me of crystal. “No. Well, maybe yes?” He sighs, running his hands over his face before looking back at me. “I think I’ve been out of my mind since I met you. You...you’re everything. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. Never. And I’ve been freaking myself out for the past six months since I finally got up the nerve to talk to you, always playing this game of does she or doesn’t she, trying to figure out if you feel the same way.”
“Hobi…”
“But I’ve just now realized something monumental.” Hobi’s eyes grow wide as he smiles at me, not a hint of fear in his expression. “It doesn’t matter if you feel the same as me. Even if you feel only a fraction of what I feel for you, that’d be enough. I think I love you enough for the both of us.”
His words drop like anvils on my head, each one pummeling me down deeper and deeper until I’m looking up from the grave I’ve dug for myself. I already know what my tombstone will read.
End it before it can begin.
As I stare into his eyes, I watch as the joy slowly turns to doubt and insecurity as the silence carries on.
If this were a different story, I’d be kissing those lips instead of watching them turn into a frown.
“Say something,” Hobi breathes out. “Please just say something.”
What happens if I can’t?
My mouth remains sealed shut, caging in the words that are dying to be spoken. I’ve been out of my mind for months, too. He’s moving away from me now, turning to plant his feet back on the ground. You have no idea just how far I’ve fallen for you. His head is down as he braces his hands on the side of the bed.
Those fingers that were so delicately tracing my brow just moments before are now white as they cling to the mattress as though trying to wake himself up from this nightmare.
“...you don’t.” His voice is strained, his face a reflection pool of all his emotions as he turns to look at me. There’s a single flicker of hope still lingering in those eyes, a softness that I’ve found is reserved just for me.
I take one last look at that beautiful gaze, knowing that it will be the last time Jung Hoseok looks at me this way. I want to remember it.
My head feels like it’s swimming through concrete as I shake it once, telling him what I have to.
No.
A single syllable, represented by a single shake of the head. A thousand pound weight pressing down on me.
The snick of the door shutting is quiet as Hoseok lets himself out.

I am so curious as to how Ur-Aurum ended up in this situation and how he has the intestinal fortitude to tell Tyreen no. I'm also guessing his love life is a trip, but mostly: SIR. WHY??? HOW???
Solomon Ur-Aurum has absolute authority to tell the God Queen no, because he answers to Father Troy... and Sol practically controls the COV.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Saints were originally intended to have equal power within the COV and that no department head would hold sway over another, but that’s ended up a lie. Finance controls everything, Sol heads the finance dept... and Troy owns it.
He’s not in this position through chance, he’s exactly where he wants to be. It’s what he’s clawed towards since the day he founded the Children of the Vault alongside the Calypso Twins.
Solomon Blatcjky is a cut throat broker and stock market expert with decades of experience under his belt, and apparently no morals to speak of. His reputation proceeds him, and while he may be a little person, he casts a long shadow.
Sol spent most of his adult life building his career out of other people’s bank accounts on Harrier, a silicon valley-esque tax haven moon in Promethea’s orbit who’s tiny landmass is crowded by the corporate and mega-conglomerate skyscrapers it’s covered by.
He was known for a near vicious focus on providing results for his employers, and a complete lack of humor while doing so. He’s stony faced, profit motivated, and driven - excellent traits for a moneymaker on your side, but ones that have left him plenty of enemies in his trade. He doesn’t work well with others and doesn’t partner in general, preferring to have complete control over projects himself and removing the risk of failure relying on someone else can cause.
He’s got a keen eye and razor sharp instinct, so when he first caught sight of two ratty kids online and noted their shocking count growth in the week period he’d tuned in to their e-com drivel, he sank his fangs into an opportunity other’s hadn’t sniffed out yet.
It didn’t take much, some official type work mailed to their studio address in that rusty docker town on Pandora, an invite to Harrier and a pair of first class shuttle tickets so they could “Discuss what he’d like to offer”, and they’d taken the bait. Scrawny, disheveled, and reeking of false confidence Sol saw through like a veneer, they’d sat in his office and stared wide eyed around it.
The Twins had never seen anything like the luxury he worked in, still only starting to get used to Pandora’s dry barrens and beginning to forget Nekrotafeyo’s cool hues. They were beyond out of their league here, trying to hide the shake of excitement in their limbs behind practiced theatrical gestures as Sol sat calmly, listening to their bravado about their followers, their family, lofty goals, all while covering his artisanal leather chairs in the red dust that coated their extravagantly pathetic outfits.
He’d grinned politely. Nodded along. Agreed with the loudmouth woman and offered reassuring comments to the apprehensive man, noting mentally which of the two were going to be the one he’d need to work on to convince.
His offer was unbelievable, and Troy, even with his then layman’s understanding of financing he’d learned from their months with Seifa, was wary. Solomon’s full attention, broker services, stock rights and acumen...  all for a tiny profit-percent based fee.
They had nothing to give him and Troy knew that. $5k in savings was all they had to their names, barely anything left from what Sei had given them for their ship after the majority had gone on streaming equipment and the tech they needed. They were making a profit now sure, numbers were already growing explosively, but this man was not someone who worked for anything less than 9 digits a year. What was he gaining in this deal?
It was Tyreen that spoke up, clumsily but to the point at least, asking him why someone like him would take $5k and turn it into real money for them when that’s all they had, why would he give them all this time if he could do the same for Hyperion or Maliwan or fucking... Torque, and earn so much more?
He had smiled back, completely devoid of actual warmth, and told the Calypso twins it was because he believed in them.
That was enough for Tyreen who was more than happy to welcome another worshipper into the fold, but not for Troy. He had suspicions that itched at the back of his mind for days after his sister had shook Sol’s hand and sealed the deal, so he did what would come to be a process he relied on through his future to understand other's motivations - he dug into Solomon’s history.
It was airtight. Flawless performances in every position he’d worked in, excellent reviews, dirt free publicly, but privately?
It seemed Sol’s reputation was under threat on Harrier. He was well known for being cutthroat and emotionless, so when clients he’d worked with in the past vanished, or competitors had been found assassinated in their luxury condos, it had made sense for the corporate rumor mill to target him. Wether the murmurs were true or not didn’t matter, the damage was building and Troy realised that spotting the inexperienced twins had been an out. He MUST have genuinely believed he could turn their newborn fame into something intensely profitable or he’d not have approached them, and this man clearly was someone who’s opinion on success viability could be trusted.
Troy spent long video calls with him in private, explained very clearly that he would appreciate Sol’s expertise but that any step out of line, any act that put his sister, his media syndicate, or his money in danger, would be met with termination of the completely permanent kind.
Sol had assured him he’d understood, and they’d finalised the contract.
He’s been part of the COV before it had a name, and he has no plans to leave.
By the time the Holy City was founded a couple of years later, he was running all of financing as the Saint of the department, mostly still from his office on Harrier. He doesn’t like Pandora, he doesn’t like the word Tink, and he definitely does not like the planet’s inhabitants, but he can still be found in the Grand Cathedral on official business at times.
Sol has dropped all clients, no one can possibly match the zeros coming in at the ends of the COV profit numbers at this point, and by late COV he’s still on the percent profit based salary the twins agreed to 8 years ago.
The results he pulls for them are astronomical, but he'll do so at the cost of any other person, or town, or planet, and Troy has found it easier to turn a blind eye than investigate too deeply in WHAT Sol is investing their money in - who's stocks he buys, or how the companies and industries the COV cannibalises are treated.
Seifa has inklings, but her work relationship with Sol needs to stay amicable and, uh, she's fucking terrified of him to boot. Everyone is, and she's not willing to risk his retaliation for her getting too nosy. They say people go missing who do that. She’s not sure where the rumor started, but there’s no smoke without fire.
That’s Solomon Ur-Aurum.
Little man casting a long shadow.

 Quests and Recruitment
Recruitment:
The Courier finds Cain in Freeside and simply approaches him at either the Caldera Motel or the street. They must be on good terms with the Gun Runners and not have joined the Legion. Upon talking to him, Cain asks the Courier for some help if they are willing to give it. He has been contracted to retrieve some confiscated caravan goods from raiders for a client. His partner has mysteriously disappeared and asks the Courier to be another gun.
Upon acceptance of the quest, Cain will make his way to his room in The Caldera (or if he’s there already) and start gearing up. All loot in this room is a [Steal] prompt. You can either follow him or meet him outside Freeside. Upon arrival at the start site, Cain makes conversation briefly about who The Courier is and who he is before setting out. The player follows him to a location where raiders have set up camp in a cave. After clearing them out, Cain finds his friend’s body with a scribbled note on top. It reads:
“They found me, the fuckers. They’re leaving me for dead. Gecks will get me, or the nightstalkers…damn. Saw some bandits around here earlier, I’m sure they’ll come for the caravan once they see the smoke. Shit, Cain, I’m sorry, I don’t think I’ll make it to the bar tonight. Tell the Runners that…”
The rest is smudged, as if the man was surprised. Cain is sad and says a few words over his friend’s body before turning to the Courier and heading back to Freeside after a brief conversation. He then offers to tag along since they worked well together, but he asks for five hundred caps. Merc’s fee, you know?
Personal Quest:
         Upon gaining enough positive rep with Cain through various means (Includes positive interactions with NCR, kindness to children, mercenary work, etc.) and rep with the NCR, Cain approaches the Courier and asks for a favor. It deals with the caravan mystery that he had come across in the recruitment quest, and he seems to have a lead. One of the caravan hands that traveled with him on his first journey to the Sierra Nevadas was behind the attack on the caravan. Once accepted, Cain is visibly relieved and tells the Courier that he’s happy he has an ally for this one. The old associate is camped out in a parking garage just south of Primm, and upon reaching the destination, Cain asks the Courier to stay their hand if they find the man, at least for a little bit. They are met with raiders guarding the garage. Upon clearing them out, a small office is left, and the door unlocks. Out walks a man, who proceeds to try to hug Cain, who refuses. If the Courier is aggressive and angry in response, it will get Cain angry as well, and after some dialogue, Cain will shoot the man on the spot. If taking the softer approach, Cain gains through information that the man was forced by his employer to do the act…the very same employer who employed Cain. He explains that he must have wanted to hold the mercs in contempt and collect the fee for failure. Cain can also gain this information by reading the terminal in the office if he kills his friend.
Either way, the next stop is New Vegas, in an old office building outside the city. It seems this is where the businessman is based. You can go in guns blazing or take a stealthy approach. Either way, Cain will confront the man about the death of his friend and the man’s greed. The man is not remorseful in the slightest, and even if you convince Cain not to kill him, he will attack, and Cain will kill him in self-defense.
If you let the old associate live and kill the businessman, you will receive the “Practiced Hands” perk.
If you killed both of the men, you will receive the “Raising Cain” perk.
  Ending Slides
Personal Quest Unfinished: Cain continued working for various employers (regardless of their credibility) until a stray bullet ended up hitting his leg, which he eventually had to have amputated. Unable to work, Cain turned to drinking and became a regular at Freeside’s seedier establishments.
 If the Courier sides with Legion and…
Completion ending 1: Cain never did understand why the Courier showed such kindness then sided with such monsters as the Legion. Overcome with a kind of sad resoluteness, he enlisted in the NCR Military, in the hopes that he would one day meet the Courier on the filed of battle and ask why. And if need be, put them down.
Completion ending 2: Cain was furious that the person that had helped him kill his enemies joined with the Legion to kill his friends. He immediately joined the NCR Military and would distinguish himself as a crack shot and a ruthless soldier. If he met the Courier in a firefight, that bastard would be dead before they could say ‘Traitor’.
 If the Courier sides with NCR and…
Completion ending 1: Cain fully endorsed the Courier’s decision and would council them to keep trading relatively free to operate as usual. He knew all too well the dangers of bureaucracy. Whenever the Courier had a meeting to go to the NCR leadership, Cain was always there, giving helpful advice and keeping his friend safe.
Completion ending 2: Cain was all too happy to smoke some Legionnaires, and happily followed the Courier into every firefight. Every time there was a mission to infiltrate and secure camps or even hunt down patrols, Cain was the first to volunteer. He would eventually be known among the NCR troops as “Hurricane” Braun, laser-merc of the Mojave.
If the Courier sides with House and…
·        Completion ending 1: Cain knew that House was a big player in the Mojave, but when he saw what he was, the greed of House put a sour taste in his mouth. He would visit the Courier every now and then to talk and catch up, but he returned to guard-work and did quite well for himself.
·        Completion ending 2: Cain thought the Courier had been had but being a lackey for a lackey was nothing new to him. He continued his duty of guarding the Courier, and while he planned and plotted to kill the skeletal man in the tower for his greed, he never could.
If the Courier makes New Vegas independent and…
Completion ending 1: Cain knew that the NCR’s grip on New Vegas was weak, so when the Courier booted up the bots and seized control of New Vegas, he wasn’t all that surprised. Maybe a free New Vegas was good? And good it was. Trade blossomed, and Cain found himself on the elite council of guards and caravan masters who could usher in this new era of prosperity.
Completion ending 2: Cain wasn’t too thrilled about the bots taking over New Vegas, but he trusted the Courier with his life, so he stayed. Turns out a free city makes for crime, and while the bots could get most of it, Cain found himself in a position to be security detail for the Courier’s most personal assignments. It is said that a man in leather stalks the streets at night, looking for trouble…

Overcoming Quarter-life Crisis
I always believed that at some point in our lives there would be moment/s wherein we'll start questioning our existence, why we do things, if we're navigating life the right way, if our current career path and other life choices are the ones that truly matter to us or if these decisions, these beliefs, or these standards where just conditioned to us by the society which affected our upbringing and views in life.
I've been there and I still am. I'm 25 today and looking back at the previous months, my thoughts, feelings, and emotions were unstable.
I couldn't quite fathom before why I was at that state. I've been logical in every decision that I make in my life, I almost never let my emotions get the best of me, I always think of the bigger picture before I delve myself into a new path. But this year, everything seemed to crumble down.
I just got exhausted with everything that I did for the previous years of my life. I quit my job at a digital advertising agency on December with no backup plans, tried freelance gigs but ended up being ghosted by employers.
It's just a month of me trying to be independent. I'm renting at a coliving space with barely enough money on my pocket to keep going.
I held my head up high when I moved out of the family home so it's a struggle for me. I'm just 24 that time with a hunger for freedom, to finally live independently and yet there I was, being lost and thinking about the timing of my decision to leave home. I might barely make it out alive.
Then come March. I finally decided to go back home and terminate my contract at the coliving space. I had to swallow my pride because I'm still jobless. The news about having positive cases of CoVid just hit our country and those people are just near the vicinity of my place. My anxiety kicked in and I just packed my bags and decided to go home. So far, this was the best decision I made during the 1st quarter of the year as just a few days later, the lockdown was announced.
The drive to hustle and go back to the corporate life was not getting into my senses. It's lockdown season, the news just gave me more anxiety, and I just wanted to shut myself out from the world-- and so I did.
Months flew by quickly with me just barely working out, binge watching on Netflix, binge reading on online novels, binge eating junk food and just literally avoided that time to assess how I was doing with my life. I was enjoying my rest, it's been a while. It wouldn't hurt to indulge myself with these things that kept me busy, right?
Then June came. The lockdown just got longer and the government didn't still have concrete plans on how to flatten the curve and provide ways to help our fellowmen get by.
It was frustrating as hell and I was getting bored as fuck. Yes, the rest was nice but I had to keep myself going. I had to work. I had to make a living. And so I looked for job opportunities available.
Trying to get back on track was hard especially when you took a long break. When you're working on digital, something new happens in a day-- the algorithm changes, the customer behavior shifted, the way people consume content has evolved... I had a lot of catching up to do and it got overwhelming so I decided to take a customer support job instead of digital marketing to take small steps in getting back to work.
I got a job on July and during those times, I got motivated again. I even went back to journaling and doing yoga. I take time to be aware on my thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I wanted to understand myself better. I wanted to make better life choices. I wanted to be a better version of myself as I don't want to be that version of me who was hopeless, who didn't care anymore and couldn't appreciate of what's in front of me.
I lost my zest for life and retrieving it wasn't easy. It's an ugly and tiresome process especially for someone who, finally, admitted that she's facing a quarter-life crisis. Evaluating myself on a quarterly basis like how the management does in companies was a process that I adapted and applied in my personal life.
Having to criticize yourself with certain standards and trying to unlearn those unrealistic norms were hard to just get out of my system.
Unlearning things isn't something that you can do in just a snap or even overnight. It's a life-long process as there will be circumstances when you'll get swayed or unconsciously go back to the programming that you're used to and that's okay.
The mind is the greatest battlefield and being kind to ourselves is the hardest thing to do, but something we should.
If we easily encourage other people, why not give some self-encouragement?
My quarter-life crisis experience combined with the pandemic was the worst season of my life to date.
We're still under lockdown and I know there are still fragments of my unresolved self-issues but I'm still trying to take baby steps and not force myself to be okay right now.
The only thing that I'm looking forward to is the moment that I'd look back to the months that were, and have a genuine smile on my face and say, "I'm grateful that phase happened."

Tatooine - Chapter 54
Link to the masterpost. Chapter 53. Chapter 55.
@averruncusho thank you for reading you get a tag
First stop, Czerka office. Before I even open the door, I hear a Duros shouting inside - “You'll be hearing about this, you Czerka puppet! I'm not going to let this drop! You can't just murder a whole village!” What’s this? Czerka is guilty of a massacre? Not that I’m surprised - it’s something they’d do. “And don't tell me to take my concerns to your corporate kiosk! I know when I'm not wanted!”
He bumps into me as he’s leaving. “You okay, dude?” I ask.
“I'm done talking in this office,” he says, “They aren't interested in listening to me. I doubt they will even acknowledge I was here. Typical corporate evasion. That's what happens when they own everything. No accountability.” Hell yeah! And he leaves.
The protocol officer shakes her head, but then shifts her focus to me as I come the rest of the way in. “Can I help you?” she asks, “These are the offices of Czerka Corporation. I trust you have business with the company?” She talks faster than I can get a word out. “If this is about employment, I'm afraid all regular mining positions are full. And before you ask, we are also no longer selling hunting licenses.”
Uh, okay. “I’m looking for a miner named Griff,” I say. Mission pushes past Canderous to get next to me.
“Griff?” she says. Nervously. “Uh... there's no Griff here. Never heard of him.” And Carth says I’m a bad liar. “No, I... I don't remember a single Griff on the Czerka Corporation payroll.”
“Stop lying and tell me what you know about my brother!” Mission shouts.
And that shuts the officer down. “If you have any further questions, please pose them to the Representative Kiosk on Coruscant. Business hours, please.”
Yeah, I’m sure that’s how she deals with everyone who shouts at her. Which I’d imagine is a lot of people - it’s pretty obvious things aren’t going well here. A 100-credit docking fee for an unscheduled arrival? The fact that the gizka merchant didn’t have backups of his backups for his datapads? The fact that we’re the only people in here? That they aren’t hiring more miners? Czerka is obviously not doing very well here. Good - they can choke for all I care.
So I turn on the charm. “Are you sure you don’t remember? We’d leave sooner if we knew.”
“Oh,” she says, suddenly all cooperative, “you mean that Twi'lek! Yes, I see the resemblance. Must have slipped my mind for a second. Yes, of course I remember Griff.”
“Uh-huh,” Mission grunts skeptically, crossing her arms.
“We hired that Twi'lek some time ago. Not a good worker according to his crew chief: always complaining and faking injuries to get out of work. He entered false time sheets and slept through his shifts. We even suspected him of stealing Czerka Corporation supplies, although we could never prove it.” Well, good on him for that, I guess.
“That sounds like Griff, all right,” Mission says.
“So you fired him then?” I ask.
“We would have but we needed workers,” she says, then she scoffs. “It would have been better for him if he had been fired. Then the Sand People wouldn't have gotten him.”
“You mean he’s dead?” Mission exclaims.
“He was lost in a Sand People raid we suffered not too long ago,” she says, “There were prisoners taken, but our rescue parties never found anyone alive. In the end it just wasn't cost effective to keep searching.” That’s why you never bring in a corporation for a scout’s work. I know a couple Rodians who would have gladly taken the job for food and the privilege to traipse through the desert. (Well, used to know. I heard they went to Hoth and never came back. Anyway.) “All miners sign a waiver absolving Czerka Corporation of liability in these circumstances.”
“So all your workers are expendable,” I say. Not surprised.
“Czerka Corporation cares deeply for all of its employees,” she says, spouting her corporate drivel, “That's why we've started a bounty program to thin the Sand People numbers.”
“Did the Sand People kill Griff or not?” Mission yells.
The officer gets flustered. “We didn't find his body so we have to assume he was taken prisoner. Whether he's still alive, I couldn't say.” Mission growls and reaches for her vibroblade - just for intimidation, she doesn’t plan to do anything with it. Not that Czerka here knows that. “That's all I can tell you,” the protocol officer says nervously, “I shouldn't even have said this much; this is all privileged corporate information. I could lose my job!”
“Don’t worry,” I say, not really all that concerned, “You were just threatened by his family. Surely there are policies in place for informing family of a worker’s condition.”
Canderous pulls Mission back a bit, which calms the officer down significantly. “Is there anything else I can do for you?”
“Yeah,” I say, “If I wanted to go out onto the dunes to look for him, can I just go?”
“Yes!” Mission cheers, “Thanks, Rena!”
“I’m afraid it’s not that simple,” the officer says, “In order to leave the city, you need a hunting license, and as I said we are no longer selling them. There are too many people cavorting around outside the walls as it is.”
Well, damn. “Why do I need a hunting license?” I ask, “I’m not going to be doing any hunting.”
“We use them to ensure that only people judged fit by Czerka Corporation are allowed outside the city.” That seems so stupid. “We don't allow casual exploration because of legal concerns. Czerka Corporation takes no responsibility for loss of life on the dunes.”
“It’s clear you haven’t met her,” Canderous says, “Rena is not about to be stopped by something as loose and shifting as sand.” Aw, shucks.
“Be that as it may,” the officer says - and it’s clear we’re making this a difficult day for her - it’s a way for us to keep track of people. No one leaves the city without a Czerka hunting license.”
Well, I have to leave the city, so I’m going to need one of those licenses. “And there’s no way to get a license?”
Then her face changes. Oh, boy, here we go. I get the sense she wants to just shove us out the door, but what Canderous said combined with Mission’s attitude finally sink in. “Well,” she says, “normally we charge 200 credits, but I could make an exception if you agreed to perform a task for us. It may even align with your goals.”
To get the Star Map or to free Griff? “What do you have in mind?”
“The Sand People are becoming a problem,” she says, “They destroy our sandcrawlers and kill our miners. One particular tribe is the worst. It's as if their chieftain has decided to wage a war against us. I would like their attacks... terminated.” You mean you’d like the Sand People terminated, yeah, I can read between the lines. “Bring me their gaffi sticks as proof. If you agree to do this, I'll give you a hunting license now and pay a bounty for each stick later. I'll give a bonus for the chieftain's.”
Bastila doesn’t like this - it very clearly emanates off her. But I need the license. What I do after that is up in the air. “I’ll do it,” I say. What will I do? Anyone’s guess.
“Excellent,” the officer says, making out a license for me. No name, just a number. “Now, just so we understand each other,” she says, “this is an enforceable contract.” Yeah, try to get me when I leave. That’s cute. “Czerka Corporation takes this very seriously.” She hands me my license. “We believe one of their enclaves is in the far south of the Dune Sea. You might try following one of our sandcrawlers. They are regularly attacked.” She glances at Mission and Canderous. “I wouldn't mind you escorting them.”
“Thanks for the license.”
“Czerka Corporation looks forward to your further business.” Not on your life.
When I step out, the shouting Duros is still there. “Don't you believe a word of what Czerka Corporation said in there,” he urges me, “There is always a peaceful solution to conflict! They are just lazy.”
“Spoken like a Jedi,” Bastila says, “We should hear what he has to say.”
“Not that I listen to Czerka Corp anyway,” I say to him, “but is this about Czerka wanting the Sand People chieftain killed?”
“So, you are the killer that they hired,” he says. Whoa, dude, back up a bit. “Just going to walk out there and wipe them out? I'd expect no less from fools.
“The Sand People aren't animals,” he says, “I've watched them, and they are intelligent. There must be a way to peacefully stop the attacks, I know it! But no one will try, of course. You can't even leave the city without Czerka approval and they want the Sand People dead.”
“I can assure you,” Bastila says, “we don’t.”
“Yeah, but,” Mission says, “intelligent or not, the Sand People have killed people!”
“Yes they have,” the Duros says, not patronizing her which I’m sure she likes, “but Czerka Corporation deployed numerous giant sandcrawlers to tear up the desert with ion shovels and whatever else.” He shifts to address all of us. “What would you have done? To the Sand People, it must have seemed like an invasion. There were no negotiations for territory or resources. I don't think the killing has been justified, but as a conservationist I'm hoping someone at least tries to talk this out.”
“Hang on,” I say, “nobody’s tried to talk to them?”
“Well, there is the small matter that they don't seem to speak a language that your average translator can understand. Is that their fault?” Well, I’m not your average translator. I’m a -- “There was even a Jedi here a few years ago that couldn't seem to get through to them. I... think that ended in blood too.”
Oh.
“I'm not saying it would be easy, but someone has to try. Maybe with a real translation droid, not these old protocol scrap heaps walking around.”
“Hey!” Mission says excitedly, “Rena could build a droid like that! Right, Rena?”
“Well… yeah… I suppose…” I say, because I have built droids before, “... but we don’t have that kind of time. Malak, remember?”
“Oh. Right.”
“Who would have a capable droid, though?” Bastila says, “I imagine we could find one on Coruscant, but as you say we don’t have the time to look.”
“They are pretty rare,” the Duros says, “even on well-stocked worlds, but I'm sure I heard something about an unusual droid in the shop here on Tatooine. I heard Yuka Laka say that it could speak a Sand People dialect.” Well, that’s convenient. “Although he'd say rust is gold to make a sale.” There we go. “With that droid, maybe you could talk to them. I wouldn't survive... maybe with desert robes as a disguise someone could get into their enclave. You could take them off the warriors in the Dune Sea, but you’d have to explain why you killed their warriors if you are trying to make peace… I just don’t know.”
“Don’t worry,” Bastila says, “We are Jedi peacekeepers. We will find a way to make peace with the Sand People.”
He sort of smiles - or at least what a smile is for a Duros. “Thank you for listening,” he says. He still seems skeptical - I’m sure he’s used to people saying whatever they can to get rid of him. But it’s not just Bastila talking. I want to give it a whirl.

The Mark of a Soulmate (Negan/BlakeAU) Chapter Seven
It’s been a while since my last chapter so I hope this doesn’t disappoint. Thank you as always to the gorgeous @neganandblake for your support Lovely. You’re amazing! <3
Chapter Seven
Blake stood in front of her mirror blankly looking back the dressed up woman in front of her that she was struggling to recognize.
She hated looking like this...the makeup, the hair, the tight fitting dresses that sometimes restricted her breathing. It was all fake. Not one piece of the facade reflecting the real woman underneath. She’d have been perfectly happy with her comfy t-shirt and sweat pants.
But she was part of a brand. A face that represented perfection to the people that gazed upon it.
Laying on her bed; she desperately grasped at any excuse she could think of that would get her out of going to this launch party. None came to mind that would be acceptable for her management. She was already on thin ice for her employment after weeks of skipping work.
Tumblr media
Forgotten meetings and scheduled photo shoots; runway shows she’d pretended to be sick for so, she didn’t have to attend.
It was becoming harder and harder to care about any of it. Her mood constantly spiraling into a cold depth of numbing aches and pains; heart breaking every time she looked to her wrist.
Negan...
Where the hell was he?! And why hadn’t he found her yet. Was she not good enough, not worthy enough to finally find the love she’d been promised by that damn mark on her skin?
It felt as though it was mocking her at times. A constant reminder that she was alone. That perhaps she would always be that way. That maybe the weeks of research she had been doing was all for nothing. What if he had already had someone else.
It had been known that sometimes people would fall for someone that wasn’t their soulmate, but it was a still a fierce long lasting love that many couples had cherished well into their old age. And other times it wouldn’t prove enough and the relationships would crumple. If that was the case for her soulmate and he did have someone he loved; of course Blake would be happy for him. But where would that leave her?
She was so tired of obsessing over a man she didn’t even know. It was getting to the point wasn’t sleeping properly, eating an entire meal had become a challenge for her to ever finish; as her appetite was always waning. And the thought of keeping the search for her soulmate going, was beginning to feel like more trouble than it was worth.
Reluctantly she pulled herself up from her bed, quickly smoothing the creases out of her dress. Adding a last touch here and there to her straightened hair; paired with her rehearsed smile she’d carry with her most of the night. And after one last flick of her golden locks she was ready to go.
Tumblr media
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Blake stepped into the center of the launch party; the only thing she wanted to do was to go home.
The photographers; the journalists, designers, models and management teams...Blake didn’t care about any of it. It was a world she no longer wanted to be a part of.
Looking around, it was like seeing it through a fresh pair of eyes for the first time in years. The privilege, the arrogance and conceit. The unrealistic levels of feigned perfection, it was toxic and Blake couldn’t understand how she’d let herself be taken in by all of it for so long without seeing the true ugliness hidden behind the camera.
She didn’t even have Tara to ground her from the sea of chaos that surrounded her. She hadn’t been invited; another thing that angered her. Tara’s position as a makeup artist clearly not deemed important enough to include her on the guest list. When in fact her craft was just; if not more important as everyone else’s that worked on the sets or the runways. It wasn’t fair.
Tumblr media
The flash of cameras was blinding along was loud thumping music as more guests pushed their way through the bustling crowds. Elbows bumping into Blake almost knocking her over.
The clinking of champagne glasses echoed with idle chatter and laughter,all washed into white noise as the blonde imagined herself anywhere but where she was.
Perhaps she could sneak out? Surely no one would notice. She’d attended as agreed, she’d fulfilled the agreement of her contract. Job done. But just as she moved to eye the exit, she was quickly grabbed by the wrist.
“Ah Blake! Sweetheart finally you’ve arrived!” It was Damon, her boss. An older gentleman, dressing in a suit that practically screamed wealth; paired with a dark red silk tie and designer cuff links, sweeping back his receding grey hair the man had clearly dyed a mousy brown in an attempt to look younger than he was.
Blake flashed him another well practiced fake smile, but from the frown on his brow; he clearly wasn’t buying it. Leaning in close she could almost feel his harsh breath as he whispered lowly in her ear.
“Get your ass up to my office now!” He hissed. Not giving her time reply as he then proceeded to brag her by the arm up the stairs towards the large wooden door by the landing.
The blonde flinched as he slammed the door closed before releasing his grip on her, storming over towards his desk. His hands resting on the cold surface as he huffed a deep frustrated sigh from his flared nostrils.
Blake stayed by the door, the party downstairs now muffled by the closed door. Green watering orbs watching Damon’s every move as he poured himself a drink; turning from the window to address her.
“Blake...” He started, leaning forward, arms resting on the back of his office chair; fingers impatiently tapping against the glass of scotch in his hand.
“We’ve been through a lot you and I. Hell I’m the one that discovered you. Always thought you could make it in this business.” the man paused, another sigh leaving him. “But you’re just not hitting the mark anymore. You’re late, sloppy, giving excuse after excuse. And I’m getting to the point that I can’t keep lying for you anymore.”
Tumblr media
“To be honest, I’m starting to wonder if your looks are fading because of it. You’re not taking care of yourself anymore. But I don’t have time to babysit my clients. You know that, I said as much when I hired you.”
Blake couldn’t believe what she was hearing, it was clear she was struggling and of all people she would’ve expect Damon to understand and give her time. Evidently she had expected wrong.
“We have a standard in this business kid, how else do you think these guys and girls sell the clothes they model or the products they endorse. It’s all about the brand and you have to look perfect while you’re doing it and I’m afraid you’re just not anymore.” Damon finished his drink with one final sip before putting the glass down and stepping out from behind his desk. Long tailored legs striding towards Blake as he placed a hand on her shoulder.
His patronizing tone grinding on Blake’s nerves now the longer he looked at her.
“It was good while it lasted, but I’m afraid not everyone is cut out for this world sweetheart, I’m letting you. Your contact terminated immediately. I hope you can understand.” He patted her shoulder but quickly snatched it back when Blake slapped his hand away.
“Oh I understand!” She spat. “This obsession for perfection is ridiculous Damon. None of it is real! You pin and tuck everything to point I can’t fucking breath! You paint so many layers of makeup on my skin that it’s hard to tell it’s me, no woman looks like that! It’s not right and if that’s your idea of perfection then I’m glad you’re firing me!”
To Blake’s utter disgust, Damon simply scoffed in her face. An idle cocky smile widening across his face.
“They all get bitter when they realize they’re not as pretty as they used to be. Don’t worry sweetheart, I’m sure you can find employment somewhere else.” Damon joked sarcastically. “Perhaps somewhere that doesn’t require you to think too much, I know with this job ‘standing and looking pretty’ was already a stretch for you to remember all at once dear.”
“Fuck you Damon.”
“Enjoy the party Blake...might as well considering it’s your last.”
Blake trembled with anger at Damon’s cruel words, a chuckle echoing behind her as he stepped back out towards the party to greet his guests.
Her bottom lip quivering as she refused to let herself cry. Her pride too stubborn to let anyone see she was upset.
Turning on her heel she also rejoined the party, but surrounding people blurred and bled into the a mix of colours with no faces that seemed familiar.
The blonde dropped herself on a lonely stool by the bar, raised fingers calling for the bartender as she order her drink. A bitter taste washing down her throat as she threw it back before ordering another. Her throat and chest warming and numbing all at the same time from the booze.
Stray tears escaping down her cheeks as she wallowed in the depths of darkness she could feel herself falling into. But she didn’t care. She was tired. So tired of pretending. Pretending that she cared about the job she’d just lost, pretending that it didn’t hurt every time she thought about Negan living his life with someone else. Or trying to find the man that might not even want her. But most of all she was tired of pretending she was happy...
Tumblr media
She honestly didn’t know who she was pretending for anymore. But she did know she was done with it. Maybe she really was destined to be alone, a lost soul wandering forever looking for a soulmate that didn’t want to be found.
Message received universe. Thanks for nothing...She knew that now.
She was finally realizing what it felt like to hit rock bottom and she was more than willing to give in to it. She’d noticed the side-glances and sneered looks from the guests the more she drank, her lip curling in disgust for their unwanted judgement. She didn’t need to sit there and take part in their pathetic game as they looked down their noses at her from their high horses.
And so she chose to leave, but not before leaning across the bar to snatch hold of the bottle of scotch she’d been drinking. Her slender fingers wrapped around the neck of the glass bottle clutching it tightly as she stumbled towards the door.
Her actions on everyone’s lips that saw her leaving, Blake giving on-lookers a bitter laced laugh as she passed. She was done with this life, these people and their corrupt world.
And as she walked out the door, she didn’t regret a thing.

Shit, remember how I said I had the mighty need for the “quick we need to kiss so the bad guys get off our trail” trope? Remember how I said I’d probably end up writing it myself? I, uh, I did that. Here you go. AO3 link here. Original prompt here. Fic text under the cut.
"Listen," says Fowler, "I'm not sure where the Department stands on employment rights for plastic people now you've had your little movement, but I'll be damned if I'm going to lose a good team." He throws a file on the table. "If anyone asks, this didn't happen. That said, we have suspicious activity at the Eden Club. You had... success, by a measure of the word, there previously, so I'm sending you two in again. Keep a low profile. Don't fuck it up."
"What sort of suspicious activity?" Connor asks.
"It's all written right there. Read it yourself and get the fuck out of my office, I've got mountains of paperwork to file to keep you here. Officially, you're not on active duty. Unofficially, I expect results. Investigate the club ASAP and get back to me with something useful."
Hank huffs. "It's all in the file?"
"That's what I said."
"I know what the fuck you said," Hank snaps, and walks out, leaving Connor standing awkwardly in Fowler's space, facing down a spectacularly unhappy expression.
"Is there any pertinent information not included in the file?" He resists the urge to fiddle with something, anything. As a Deviant, he has a lot of irrational needs such as this.
"Are your audio receptors as broken as your personality matrix?" Fowler waves him away. "Get to work."
Quietly, Connor slips out the door.
***
The files are spread out on their shared desk when Connor makes it back. Surprisingly, Hank looks pleased, rifling through them with an uncharacteristic gentleness. Connor raises an eyebrow. "I haven't had anything fucking normal to do in this station for ages," Hank clarifies. "No Deviants, no freak murders, just a group of assholes harassing sex workers." He shrugs. "Par for the fucking course."
"They're clients of the establishment?"
"New ones. They keep shoehorning themselves into other people's rooms, apparently. Why bother renting out all the VIP rooms in the club when there are only a few of you?"
Connor blinks. "They have a lot of money and time?"
"No," Hank says. "You haven't been in the Department long enough, I guess. This is Red Ice smuggling. Textbook." He grins. "Fuckers are stupid enough to disregard the new 'don't destroy our employees' policy. Normally, no-one would give a shit, but as soon as they start breaking rules..."
"They could be facing murder charges," Connor extrapolates.
"Not that they would stick," Hank mutters. "It's an easy enough job. You shouldn't have to put anything in your mouth." He pauses, winces. "Anyway."
"How long has this been going on?"
"A few days." Hank sighs. "Not long enough to set up anything substantial, but if we can get a lead on their organisation..."
"You think they aren't acting alone?" It's true Connor doesn't yet know enough about the city to make leap judgements, but it's seemed so far like dog eat dog. Nobody seems eager to rely on each other. Then again, with the promise of enough pay...
"Too risky for a solo effort. No, they've got someone watching their back."
"You want to infiltrate the ring?"
Hank gives him a sharp look. "You don't?"
"That's not what I was implying." Connor crosses his arms, a gesture he seems to have picked up from somewhere he can't remember. Just like the line between Deviant and Machine, his mannerisms have slowly blurred further and further out of the realm of CyberLife's programming. "I just want to be sure. We're going to need trackers. And a distraction in order to secure them."
"Ideas?"
"It's situational," Connor admits, sheepish. "I don't recommend fighting them. We shouldn't bring attention to ourselves or Fowler may have our positions terminated."
"Fair enough." Suddenly, Hank's placing something in his palm. Rounded, slightly warmed by the heat of Hank's body, engraved, solid. A coin. His coin. "Let's get to work and bring these bastards down."
***
The Eden Club has changed by exactly nothing save a sign outlining the new company policy. The music still drowns out the obscene noises drifting from the VIP rooms, booming bass and droning indecipherable lyrics. Connor doesn't particularly feel he's developed an extensive musical taste, but it's enough to realise he much prefers Hank's metal to pounding club music.
Beautiful men and women grind against poles, dollar bills tucked into the wastebands of revealing lingerie. Workers pose enticingly in glass cases, untouchable and all the more tantalising for it. Or so Connor imagines. After seeing the fear in the eyes of the couple they'd intercepted last time, he can't really appreciate the view.
"The Department should cover the price this time," Connor offers, gesturing to an android off to the far right. Outwardly, she's perfectly composed, but he can see the way her pulse is jumping. Every so often, her eyes dart to the side, frantic.
Hank groans. "I'm making you open your own account after this. I'm not raising any more alarms with my credit company."
Connor approaches the woman slowly, transmitting his credentials over their shared neural net. Immediately, her simulated breathing eases. "I figure you guys are investigating the assholes who've come in every day since Monday," she says. She holds out a hand for Connor to take. "Here, take a look. They've been scaring the shit out of the other customers and harassing my colleagues."
They link, and Connor observes the perpetrators, three men, ranging from 6'1 to 6'4, two brunette, one blonde, stomping through the club, banging on doors and yelling over the din. One has a distinctive tattoo on his right temple, a CyberLife logo dripping blue blood. Possible android prejudice? It would explain the casual disregard of the new management. It certainly makes a statement in an android-populated strip club. He describes the men, and the tattoo, to Hank.
"That's just fucking obnoxious," Hank says. "Thanks for the info," he tells the worker, and turns back to Connor. "Let's check out the rooms. Could be they've hidden something there already."
"Hey," says the android. "Haven't you been here before?"
"No," Hank grits out, at the same time as Connor's swift, "Yes."
"Nothing to be ashamed of, Lieutenant," Connor whispers. Hank makes quickly for the nearest door.
***
The room is closed-in and smells unpleasantly of sex. The walls seem undamaged, and the floor is solid concrete under a garish heart-shaped rug. No obvious hiding places, but they could be intending to run deals straight out of pocket. "Anything?" Hank asks.
"Nothing I can see outright."
"What about the bed?"
Connor kneels down, brings a hand to the sheets. As expected, there's residue. He opens his mouth, starts to bring his fingers to his lips. "Jesus Christ," Hank cuts in, almost startling him. That's a new feeling.
"What?" Connor looks up, perplexed.
"No licking shit. I don't need DNA profiles of every jackass getting a happy ending here, right in the very fucking air I'm breathing."
Connor shrugs. He can't contract human diseases, but Hank's discomfort is understandable. "From surface analysis, I read Thirium, semen-"
"I don't need a play-by-play either," Hank starts, grimacing, but Connor holds up a hand.
"There's also Red Ice."
"Okay," Hank says. "Okay, that's a start. At least it means people aren't afraid to shoot up in here. Prime environment to run a business."
Connor begins to nod, but is interrupted by a loud banging. "Open up! Open the fuck up before we open for you!"
Hank pales. "Is that-?"
"The voice profiles match."
Shit. Connor's processors go into overtime. He could fight, but it's not a tactically sound decision. If they blow their cover, the operation is compromised, and the dealers will change locations. It could be ages before they pick up the scent again. They could hide, but the underside of the bed probably couldn't fit them both. The lighting isn't quite dim enough to hide their forms either way. Think. What reason would they have to be here?
Oh. Oh, shit.
"Hank," Connor starts. Not Lieutenant, just Hank. Hank gives him a baffled stare. "This is the only method with a high probability of success, so please go along with it."
Naturally, the words don't register, but Connor doesn't have time to explain. Instead, he begins to strip, quickly and efficiently. They're in plain clothes, no badges, nothing that would indicate they were here for anything more than a good time. For the first time, Connor finds himself thanking Fowler. But not for long, because they're here in the first place.
Hank looks horrified, and Connor has a tenth of a second to maybe feel a little offended before he climbs into Hank's lap. On instinct, Hank's hands go to his hips, steadying him. Something dark and heated flips in Connor's stomach. He doesn't think about it. He can't think about it. Cautiously, he lowers his mouth onto Hank's neck and sucks. He has no frame of reference. This is beyond even Deviant subroutines.
Hank's breath hitches. His heartrate skyrockets. "Wha-?" Connor puts two fingers over Hank's lips and continues to nip and lick at his neck, other hand going to the buttons on his shirt.
"We're coming in! Time's up. Room's ours now." Connor looks up, briefly. Three buttons undone. "You can fuck your pretty little twink elsewhere, old man." Four buttons.
"What the fuck, man?" Hank says. His voice is gravelly, breathless, lower than Connor's ever heard it. "I paid good money for this lay."
"And we paid better money. Get out."
"Whatever. Fucking pricks," Hank growls. He gets up, guiding Connor out of the room, hand on the small of his back. Why won't Connor's pulse calm? The situation is under control.
Hank elbows them out of the way, pushing violently out of the door. Nobody but an android could possibly sense the tracker he places in the head dealer's jacket pocket. Connor takes a moment to look at them, wide-eyed, pulling their attention away from Hank's exit.
"I'll pull your pump regulator still beating out of your chest if you don't leave right the fuck now. Don't make me count to three."
"Okay," Connor replies, voice soft and demure. He could incapacitate them here and now. One swift blow to the side of the head.
"C'mon," Hank says, ahead of him. Connor rushes out to the slamming sound of the door behind him. They've already won. "Mission accomplished."
Faintly, Connor notices Hank's heartbeat is still racing, hummingbird fast. Odd, he thinks. Must be the adrenaline of a new case.

We wished to change from the local business we had been insuring our house with because their correspondance has always been incredibly rude and they're very hard to offer with to USAA who we do our bank, brokerage, automobile & vessel insurance through and therefore are quite polite and exceedingly simple to deal with. Since our residence doesn't have central air or heat, we were rejected coverage. We live-in Southcentral Florida so a heating system will be a total waste of cash (the wall-unit in the Great Bedroom plus a space heater within the bedroom are far more than ample to really make the property hospitable within the several pleasant days of winter cold enough to guarantee their use). My partner and I equally cannot stand Ac and would never employ Fundamental A/C aside from the one or two-times per year we would usually start our wall unit when it's also hot to keep along with the windows and opportunities cannot be left available. Residences have existed prior to Central Climate Control's innovation for Milleniums and I am sure property insurance endured atleast several decades before the creation of air conditioning. Why would not having fundamental climate-control be described as a disqualifying aspect in receiving property insurance coverage? I expected this problem but people were being exceptionally rude therefore it was removed by me. If I get yourself a vehicle, I will be spending money on anything myself. The car, the maintenance, the gas, etc. The only thing that I'll unable to manage may be the insurance. I really don't actually value having my own personal auto, but I cannot generate my parents' vehicles: my momis is for her work, and my father's is not truly cheap and he does not wish it being driven by me. Either way, merely to drive another person's automobile I have to have any problems I could trigger in the event of anything and insurance to address myself. So, anyways, the one thing I want my parents to cover could be the insurance. They absoulutley decline. They genuinely believe that I-donot need to travel. I donot want to depend on my buddies to push me. cheap insurance rome ga could absolutely manage insurance, they just don't desire to buy it. I may appear whatever or spoiled but I'm not. I am paying for my text messaging, also. Consequently, I understand the worthiness of income. I simply need them to fund that one point. Thus, threaten until they get insurance to generate uninsured, and after that my approach was to buy a-car. Sort of mean, I am aware. What you think?" Insurance Providers Help??????s? Prisoner Of Love
A/N:  This is for @221bshrlocked ‘s 5K challenge.  Congrats Doll!
Relationship: Winter Soldier x Reader
Warnings: Smut, Angst, Deceit, (I wouldn’t classify this as dub-con, but some people might, so sticking it in there just in case).
Summary:    You’re a nurse working for Hydra when a certain patient takes your interest.
Prompt:  Prisoners of Love by Perry Como
You wrapped the cuff around his bicep and started to tighten.  There was no doubt his blood pressure would be right in the middle of the healthy range, like always.  Your eyes darted over to his other arm, the metal one.  The design was amazing and you half-thought it had a life of its own.
                “What happened?”  Months of handling the check-ups and these were the first words you’d spoken.
                His neck snapped towards you at an almost inhuman speed, making your heart jump with a wave of fear.  His blue eyes bore into yours and studied your face.  It felt like this was the first time he looked at you, but that couldn’t be true.  You’d been his nurse for some time now, checking on his vitals when he returned from a mission.
                “Sorry.” You dropped your gaze. “I know I’m not supposed to speak with you.”
                All you had was questions.  What sort of facility was this?  What were his missions? What did he do in-between deployments?  Were there other living quarters somewhere here? The company recruited you right out of nursing school, advertising themselves as some sort of angel organization that helped soldiers with government missions. There was a strict background check and you were the only one selected from your class.
 The pay and benefits were excellent, but it came with a strict confidentiality clause and strange rules.  You had to live in provided space, you couldn’t speak to the patients, you weren’t allowed to leave the facility without an escort.  You were starting to think the reason you were hired was your lack of family, since communication with the outside was so limited. Your contract was for five years, you told yourself a soon as that date came you were done.  The longer you worked here the more uncomfortable the place made you.
                There was a time you saw a piece of paper with the word Hydra in the header.  You’d never heard of such a company, but were familiar with the source and were starting to wonder if the man you were checking on was the Hero Veteran that was advertised or if he was just a villain and you’d been duped into working for the bad guys.
                “An accident.” He held his metal hand up to you.
                Your breath caught in your throat but you didn’t hesitate to slide your palm against his.  The metal was cool and slick, you were surprised your easily your hand glided down his wrist.  This really was modern medicine at its finest.  Your eyes traveled up his arm to his face again, he was back to studying you, but when your eyes met a soft smile spread across his face.
                Now it was your turn to see him for the first time. His chiseled features, slicked back dark hair, and those eyes were a deadly combination on their own.  You returned his smile and a warmth spread through your chest.  A flame had been lit, one you didn’t want to see burn out.
~~~
               You walked into the exam room and your heart almost did a flip seeing your soldier sitting on the table.  He grinned at you as you walked closer to him.
                “It’s been a few weeks.  How are you feeling?”  You wanted to keep this professional, after the last visit you kept waiting to get fired for breaking the rules, unsure if being fired would be a bad thing.  You were certain the room was filled with cameras, but nobody said a word to you.
                “Much better once you walked in the room.”  His smile faded to the heavy look you saw on most of the patients, but then his lips curled up slightly when his eyes moved back to your face.
                You grabbed the blood pressure cuff and started wrapping it around his arm.  The flame in your chest was starting to turn into a roaring fire, you shut your eyes, hoping to dampen the sparks.  Then you felt a finger under your chin, the touch of cold metal.  You opened your lids to see the Soldier staring at you, no trace of a smile.
                “Why don’t you want to look at me?”  There was hurt in his voice, it was light enough the average person wouldn’t notice, but you did.
                “I’m not supposed to…” You trailed off as you fell deeper into the blue of his eyes.
                “I won’t tell.” He pivoted his body closed to yours. “You’re so beautiful.”
                His finger slid from under your chin to cup your cheek.  A shudder went through your body and he started to pull away.  Your hand shot up on instinct and touched the back of his, keeping it in place on your cheek.  Relief spread across his face.
                “You’re the only light.”  His hand slid across your cheek to the back of your head as he pulled you down.
                This was definitely crossing the lines of professionalism, but you did not pull back as his lips brushed yours.  They were softer than you expected, but they soon parted and his tongue moved against yours.  His kiss was filled with a passion you’d never felt before and all logic went out the window as you brought your arms around his neck and returned the kiss.  His other hand snaked around you and pulled you into his lap as he deepened the kiss.
                It was as if you did not need air, the man holding you was enough to give your body life.  Your mouths danced against each other and you knew if it continued any longer the kiss would not be enough to satisfy your urges.  The realization brought clarity and you pulled yourself away from the Solider, standing up and backing away in the same process.
                “What….” He started to speak but didn’t finish his question as he stood from the exam table.  “You’re scared of me.”
                Your feet weren’t moving as fast as you wanted and the pained look on his face broke your heart.  The distraction caused you to slip, you elbow banging into a tray and bringing it to the ground in the process.  Pain exploded in your rear and arm as you hit the floor with a bang. You winced and gripped your funny bone as the door flung open.
                “What’s going on in here?” The Doctor walked inside and went to help you up. “Patient one, please report to the next station.”
                The Soldier’s expression went blank as he marched out of the room, not giving you a second glance.
                “Did he hurt you?”  The Doctor pulled you up.
                “No.”  You frantically shook your head.  “I tripped, clumsy mistake.”
                Your eyes went to the door where the Soldier vanished.  You felt horrible, especially if he thought it was him you were scared of.  You looked at the doctor, it wasn’t the Soldier you feared, but whatever this place was.  The longer you worked here the harder it was to believe they were the good guys.
~~~
               Making out with a patient was against the rules. It would have been regardless of the type of facility you worked at.  After the crash, you were certain the tapes would be reviewed and you would be promptly terminated, but the days went on and turned into weeks.  Nobody said a word to you.
                It piqued your interest and soon you found yourself studying the exam rooms, searching for a camera.  Maybe you weren’t being recorded, after all, maybe that was just a bought of paranoia.
                Though you never discovered cameras in the rooms, you did notice several things about your employer that seemed off. On several occasions, you swore you heard distant screaming.  The patients, in general, started acting more and more like robots during your check-ups.  The robotic personality wasn’t the only oddity, you noticed some of them had different levels of healing, but none were near as perfect as the Soldier had been.
                Two months passed and you gave up hope seeing him again.  After your tripping fiasco they probably assigned him to another nurse, or maybe there was a tape and that was why he was off your rotation.  Every time you thought of resigning his face came to your mind along with an ignition of the spark in your chest.  Maybe your hope wasn’t completely gone or maybe you were ignoring the fact you didn’t know if quitting was an option.
                You entered an exam room one evening and your heart about stopped.  Sitting on the table in black fatigues was the Soldier.  He didn’t turn as you shut the door behind you.
                “I was starting to think I’d never see you again.” You needed to apologize for how your last visit went.
                His neck snapped back towards you, a blank look on his face.  You frowned, not expecting the silent treatment.  His brow furrowed as he glanced you up and down.  Then his body twisted on the table towards you.
                “I remember you.”  His eyes started to water since he didn’t blink. “My light.”
                “Why wouldn’t you?”  You didn’t understand, it had only been two months. “It’s not you I’m scared of.  I want you to know that.”
                He stood up from the table and rolled his shoulders back.  His body was just as impressive as his face.
                “What’s your name?” You walked towards him, the normal question people asked each other upon their first meeting seeming much more intimate when asking him.
                “I don’t remember.” His eyes were still on your face, he lifted his arm, palm up towards you. “But I remember you.”
                There were a million questions burning through you, but right now touching the man in front of you was more important than any answer you would receive.  You placed your palm on top of his and your fingers wound together as he pulled you close.
                In a single move, your arms were around each other and his lips were on yours.  This time you wouldn’t make the same mistake.  Let them fire you, it would be worth it for one night with the unknown soldier.
                His mouth moved slowly, with the same passionate touches as before.  You were pulled tight against his chest, your hands running up and down his back, pressing yourself closer to him.  Your head started to swim, feeling like you couldn’t possibly get close enough to the man.
                “My light.”  He pulled away from the kiss and grabbed the hem of your shirt.
                You lifted your arms in the air and he pulled the scrub top over your head, tossing it on the floor in the process.  His mouth found yours again and he resumed the kiss.  Hands reached under you, cupping your ass as they lifted you in the air.  He set you down on the edge of the exam table and ran his hands over your thighs.
                The kiss broke again as he started kissing your neck, moving his body down in the process.  He kissed the top of your breasts and over your bra until his hands got to the waist of your pants.  He gave a tug and you lifted yourself off the table, letting him guide the scrubs and your panties to the floor.
                He pushed the fabric all the way down and hooked his fingers into your socks, pulling off your shoes in the process, leaving you clad in only your bra.  His fingers ran over your body and his mouth started to kiss its way back up again.
                When his hands reached your waist they moved to your back and he worked his way up until he arrived at the clasp, with a flick of his hand your bra was gone, leaving you completely nude in front of him. You didn’t want to be alone in your state of undress and reached out for the bottom of his shirt.
                His mouth vanished from your body and he stood up straight.  His eyes danced over your form, normally this sort of attention would make you turn away, but you wanted to bare yourself completely to this man.  Everything with him, from the fire in your chest to not knowing his name, was new, but none of it mattered.  All you wanted was him.
                You swore a low growl escaped his lips as a hunger overtook his face.  The look only excited you more, his need for you as animalistic as yours was for him. He took the bottom of his shirt and pulled it over his head.  Before the top even hit the ground he lunged forward, his mouth on yours again.
                The soft lips were gone, replaced by a hard urgency as his mouth worked against yours.  You hear his hands on his pants, stripping away the last article of clothing blocking him from you.   He wasn’t moving fast enough and you let out a whimper of need.
                Soon the fabric was gone and he climbed on top of the table, pushing you on to your back in the process.  Your hand moved between your bodies and you found his cock. Your fists wrapped around the base and you dampened even more with anticipation.
                His mouth broke from yours again and started kissing down your neck.  He stopped when he arrived at your chest and sucked a nipple into his mouth.  You gasped and arched your back as he let the bud drop only to tease it with his tongue.  His metal hand, slid up your side to greet the neglected pebble and he began tweaking and pinching.   His mouth sucked again hard, bring your nipple into his mouth as his teeth lightly braised the bud making you bite back the loud noises that wanted to escape.
                You squirmed underneath him, unsure how much more foreplay you could handle.  Realizing his cock was in your hands you bent your knees so your feet were flat on the table and lined your body up with his.   The movement slid your nipple out of his mouth, making him grunt and your bud throb.  When he realized what you were doing the hunger returned to his face threefold.
                “I need you.”  You locked eyes with him. “Now.”
                You moved your hands off his cock and touched the sides of his face.  He lowered his head to yours as he pushed inside, stretching your walls around his length.  His lips were on yours again, but you were too distracted by the fullness of him entering you to return the kiss.  He peppered little pecks across your face as he continued his initial thrust.
                Your eyes began to water as you never felt this penetrated before, certain he was touching you in places you never thought possible.  When he finally bottomed out, your mouth snapped to attention and you began to properly return his kiss.  The two of you stayed like that for a moment, with him buried deep inside of you, kissing each other with unbridled lust.  Then he pulled out slightly before driving back in.  You wanted to moan but knew too much noise could draw attention.  The Soldier must have sensed your need because he responded by biting your lip the second time he slammed back into you.
                When his cock slid out again it dragged across your G-spot, making a new sensation of nerves comes to life inside of you. He started thrusting harder, setting a pace that was driving you crazy with need and making your orgasm become more and more necessary.
                You started lifting your hips to meet his pumps and clawing at his back as he drew you closer and closer to the edge.  The urge to moan was overtaking and you found yourself biting into his shoulder to stop from screaming.  He increased his speed and you couldn’t take it any longer, biting down hard enough a coppery taste filled your mouth as euphoria filled your veins.  Your orgasm hit you harder than ever and black spots danced in front of your eyes.
                Each time he rubbed your spot a new wave of pleasure filled your body.  There was no doubt you would pass out if he kept up.  Just when you were sure you couldn’t take any more he stilled and you felt him empty inside of you, certain his white seed was finding your womb. You weren’t on any sort of birth control, but right now that was far from your mind.
                He placed a small kiss on your forehead and lifted you up, cradling you to his chest and he laid on his back with you on top of him, his cock softening inside of you.  His hand lightly stroked your back.  While a need in you was satiated the dam holding back all the questions started to break free.
                “This is a bad place, isn’t it?”  You didn’t lift your head, unsure you needed him to respond.
                “Yes.” His voice was cold. “You should never have come here.”
                “Can we leave?” You looked up at him.
                With pressed lips and sad eyes, he shook his head.
                “Can we run away?” All the signs you had been ignoring flooded forward, the way this job controlled your life.
                “They will kill you if they catch us.” His words sent a shiver down your spine. “I won’t risk that.  You’re the only light I see.”
                “So we’re prisoners?” You dropped your head.
                “For now.”  He squeezed you tight and placed a kiss on your head.
                It was time to get dressed.  You got up first and started to gather your clothing, you could feel him doing the same behind you.
                “I’ll think of something.”  You pulled on your top. “I’ll get us out of here.”
                He twitched and gave a smile, before tucking a piece of hair behind your ear and pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.
                “I’ll remember you.  Always.”  He pulled you against him tight, before letting his arms drop and walking to the door.
                Your heart broke as you watched the Soldier leave. You bit back tears and turned around, needing to act professionally.  One way or another, both of you would leave this place together.  You promised yourself that.
~~~
               The Soldier walked with a blank face to his next station. Complete the mission, wait for new commands.  When he was in this state it was all he cared about.   He arrived at the station to see one of his handlers waiting with a clipboard. He lifted his hand and gave a salute to his superior.
                “At ease Soldier.” The man in the lab coat signaled to sit.  “Mission status?”
                “Phase one complete.” The Soldier stared ahead blankly.
                “I told you-you would enjoy this one.” His superior grinned. “It will take a few weeks to see if it worked, but I’m sure you will be up for a round two.”
                The man dropped the clipboard on the table in front of the soldier.  In big letters was the name of the case:  Winter Soldier Breeding Program.
                “It’s much more fun when the females are enjoying themselves too.”  His superior turned on the screen and the image of the nurse came to life.
                The Soldier wasn’t blind.  She was beautiful and did have a certain glow about her. There was a pang in his heart, this was wrong.  She asked if they were prisoners, he was making her more of one than she already was.
                “Feeling guilty?”  The Superior pointed towards the chair.  “Have a seat and we can zap that away.”
                He didn’t want to, but it was an order.  With heavy feet, the Soldier walked to the machine and readied for another mind wipe.  Complete the mission, wait for new commands.  That was something he could wipe his head around.
Why?? I'm going to buy the very first car for me (a mazda 3 hatchpack 2006 or 2008..) and I want it to be new cause I can afford any price. But my dad keeps telling me not to buy a new car cause i won't be having good bennefits from it..such as the car insurance. It will be higher than a second hand car's...around 1000 euros every year. Also the car insurance must be full if it's a new car and I should have it on 1/3 cause its cheaper. So if it's a new car I can't have it on 1/3. What do you think I should do? Why is car insurance compulsory here in FL?
I own my car. The cheapest car insurance here (only) covers $10k on damages which is called PIP insurance and it is required by law. Sorry for my temperament but I need a clear explanation on this. If I am willing to give those $10k to my car insurance which is the only that they cover on damages if I crashed, why wouldn't they accept the dial and stop charging me monthly in my whole life? and return me those 10K when I stop driving? Again, I'll explain it easier. I'd give $10k to my car insurance till I crash. 10K is what they only cover. Why would they charge me every month needlessly? I have never crashed in my life. How to get health insurance for a pregnant woman in California that is a LEGAL immigrant?
Ok, my fiancee is pregnant. She's a legal resident, but from what I understand, she isn't supposed to use any type of public benefits (aka welfare) and we really don't want to either. I have company health care (HMO), but my company won't pay for her, and for me to add her onto my plan is like $900 more a month (IT IS INSANE!!!!!). She doesn't work as she is a stay at home mom. We are not married, but we were planning on an October wedding before she found out she was pregnant (7 weeks), I imagine we are still going to stick to our plans. How can we have this baby? I make $36,000 and live in San Diego. This would be our 2nd child, I can barely make ends meet. Before you judge me about having another kid without the true financial means, she was on birth control for 2 years. We don't know how this happened, but I guess it's not true 100% protection. Are there any insurances we can get? How can we get help with this baby? What can we do? Thank you for your help.""
Insurance RSX vs S2000?
Hi there, my dad is planning to buy me a car by the latest the last week of March. I asked him for an RSX simply because I like the reliability of a civic, but i feel that a civic is under powered. So I'm opting for an RSX. No, i will not be getting the type S because I know insurance rapes you for it. Well my dad said he'd rather buy me an S2000. I think it's cause he wants to drive it around so my mom doesn't have to nag at him for buying a sports car. I was wondering how the RSX BASE model will compare to the S2000? I know the Type S RSX's insurance is much higher than the S2000. I was wondering how about the Base model? My dad will be helping me with gas and insurance up until I graduate which will be in a few months. So I just want to start being smart about everything. Please help!""
How do I deal with my car insurance company after a crash?
An elderly man stopped in the middle of the street with his car. I couldn't stop in time not to hit him. So we collided. Now my insurance company refuses to pay for storing the car while their adjustor and the other insurance adjuster come to look at the car. I think it is totalled, but not positive. My apartment building has an ordinance against putting crashed cars in the parking lot. I live in West Los Angeles, which is highly populated, and I will get a ticket if I leave it on the street. It is not driveable. The storage places here cost $100 per day. I don't know what to do. How much will my Geico Insurance go up after my accident?
I have Geico Insurance. I had a DUI 2 years ago, and I pay $150/month for auto insurance. Two months ago I rear-ended a guy in bumper to bumper traffic (he stopped short. I've heard 90% of rear-end accidents, the person who did the hitting is at fault, but it was impossible to maintain a safe distance since people were constantly cutting in vying for an edge.) Anyway, neither of us told our insurance companies, we both took pics of each other's cars (mine looked way worse cause it already had a busted front end from someone who backed into it while parked at night and took off with no note). So I got an estimate from his mechanic for $1700. To fix my front-end, it's probably going to be $3000-4000. My question is (would LOVE to hear from a current geico or or other auto insurance agent) How much will my rates go up? How long will they go up for? Do I get a point on my license for this? Because if the amount they charge me (over time, in higher rates) is more than $4700 (i.e. his $1700 + my $3000) then I'll just pay for both on my own and spare myself the DMV point. But if it will be less than that (i.e. the higher rate expires before it reaches $4700 more), then I'll just tell my Insurance company and deal with the point. Can anyone help me here? Much appreciated!""
Should I include collision on my car insurance?
I have a 2002 Honda Civic sedan with 99,000+ miles on it. In shopping around for better car insurance (my old policy expires next month), most agents I interacted with included collision for around a $300 annual premium. Some people I told about my insurance shopping said that to carry collision on such an old car is not necessary. I'm seeking an unbiased opinion as to what are the advantages, if any, about including collision, or any other info on what to look for in a good policy. Thanks.""
Pregnant? Health Insurance?
My bf and I have been intimate for the past almost 3 years, which is how long we've been together, we've only used protection a few times. I have been on BC for the past year to a year and a half, it's the generic for Tri-Nessa. About 2 weeks ago, maybe a little longer than that, I quit the BC and we had unprotected sex for maybe 3 days in a row and he came inside of me, on the third day after we had finished I got cramps in my lower back which usually is how my cramps feel a day or two before I get my period but I also had very light bleeding and the next day it had gotten heavier and lasted a couple days. Now this was no where near the date I'm supposed to get my period, which I thought was weird. I took three pregnancy tests but they were all negative, then again I took them way too soon. I have a appt with my obgyn on Monday. Also, ive been feeling sluggish, not wanting to move much, when I sit down on the couch its like i cant get comfortable and my side like cramps up. Opinions? About insurance, I'm on insurance with my mom because she has food stamps and gets a disability check, so I have united health care insurance through her. I dropped out of school, dumb decision, I know, but I found a babysitting job and I get paid $150 a week. So they didn't put me in the school program at welfare. Now my insurance will run out in August when I turn 18 so if I find out I'm pregnant would they give me and the baby free insurance? My sister just had her third and she plus my nephew had both received free Medicaid. She's 28 so does free insurance differ by age? Since she's 28 and I'm 18 is she eligible for it because she's older or am I eligible as well? My bf and I have been busting our asses looking for jobs and he's signed up for The National Gaurd. We've been together way too long and he is very happy whether I am pregnant or not, he's a good man. I don't give a crap about any rude comments or opinions, I am just looking for advice from girls with experience.""
How much would I pay for my yearly motorcycle insurance?
Thank you for your time. I am a 18 year old freshman university student living in Canada and I am really interested in buying a new motorcycle. I recently got my M1 and I will be going for my M2 next, so I am still kinda inexperienced. I looked at a few motorcycle websites and a couple of them read that motorcycle insurance is affected by age, experience, driving record, bike engine, etc. I figured that a medium sized engine probably wouldn't cost too much so I looked at a bike with 600cc. I am not worried about the initial cost of the bike since my scholarship money out-pays my tuition and housing by an excess of $4000. Also, I have had no history of accidents in cars or anything. I was wondering, based on my history and my status, what would be a good approximation of the yearly insurance I would have to pay given that I am a student and I am looking at a 600cc bike? Any input is appreciated.""
Want to cancel my whole life insurance?
Back in July 09, I let my stepmother's boyfriend create a life insurance policy for me. He works as an agent for New York Life, and since I know nothing about insurance, I just let him take care of everything. For personal reasons, I want to cancel the insurance. I will get something else, probably term, very soon. I just still know nothing about insurance, so I have a few questions about my policy. I do have whole life insurance, so I should be able to get some money back, right? Currently, I have a $50k plan, and I pay just under $50 a month. I got this policy when I was 18, so the monthly cost seems a little high--especially since I have no dependents or debt. If I die tomorrow, I could still get a really nice funeral (not that I want one) and have it all payed in full from the money I have from my inheritance. Was I ripped off or is this pretty standard? Online, it says my Net Cash Value is $37.97. Is this the money I get back if I cancel? It seems low--it's only about 3.2% of the total amount I've paid. I was expecting some amount closer to 10%. Ideally, I'd like to cancel without talking to my agent. Is there any way I could do it through a general agent or online?""
I know my vehicle is below 95db and B. I am running with a catalytic converter and have passed smog within the past 6 months. The second ticket I believe is just for having a Cold Air intake. Will these two things make my insurance rates rise or because they are non moving, they won't?""
My home insurance company is terminating my policy because I need a new roof?
My home insurance company sent me a letter saying they are going to terminate my policy in few weeks because the roof is worn and needs to be replaced, but I bought my house a year ago and it passed inspection and my inspection paper says i have 3 to 5 more years left on my roof so i don't understand why or how my home insurance company can just terminate my policy. By the way the home insurance company is TRAVELERS if that helps.
Some of America’s most common insurance carriers also give a variety of policy alternatives in addition to the default or default of any life insurance policy purchased with the exception of the standard life coverage and a conditional guarantee. In most cases, though, the option offers more affordable benefits from a broader perspective. If you want to buy a without a medical exam or who knows the benefits of multiple lines of insurance on a younger, under-qualified applicant, the first thing to do is go on a . This term may be purchased with or without a medical exam. You’ll have to weigh whether it’s best or cheapest to purchase any type of life insurance — from life alone or as a part of the grandfathered , or through. which of these is not a reason for purchasing life insurance on the life of a minor. Life insurance can provide your loved ones with financial security to take care of your final arrangements, such as burying your final wish. If you don’t have a family to depend upon, there are additional considerations to purchasing a life insurance policy on your partner. There are three reasons a partner can become one. First, as a non-custodial parent, you provide for your loved ones financially when they aren’t still being caretaker and that’s one reason why you make your partner the primary insured. Second, insurance coverage can be more expensive for individuals if they have had previous accidents or come into contact with alcohol or drugs. And thirdly, because of the other part of your spouse’s life that you’re involved in, it is easier for the surviving spouse to take on additional risk income for your spouse if they will now go through the same risks as you had before. As a parent, in most cases, both of you will want. which of these is not a reason for purchasing life insurance on the life of a minor. If you have any such questions it may be that it concerns you. If the insurance company has questions it may be that you don’t want to take care of it. It depends on the circumstances of the insurance company’s case. While taking out a policy on yourself is possible, the more complex situation may warrant a different outcome. So it’s important to have a discussion with your insurance representative to determine if it’s a financial decision you should make. First, take a close look at your insurance policy and your current plan. If it’s a policy you don’t need to insure on your child, then you need to decide if it’s worth the price. If you’re not sure, check with your provider and see if it offers other, or “self-insured” insurance coverage. Some providers may offer their plan “on-the-go” for those who may be interested in.
How to Buy Life Insurance for a Child: The Bottom Line
How to Buy Life Insurance for a Child: The Bottom Line: Some employers will require a child to be paid or placed in a cash-value account or other cash assistance program such as a , a life insurance program where a portion of the premium is paid by an employee’s employer. Even if your employer does not require a child to be enrolled in a cash-value life insurance program, that is still considered a voluntary offer to sell or distribute your cash value. Some insurance companies also require that your child be licensed or to become a member of any health care institutions. That’s why it’s important that you discuss this option with your insurer as soon as possible. If your child moves to an area with a health system that allows for a cash settlement, you can then purchase a life insurance policy if your child is allowed to remain on a cash-value account. The Bottom Line: Having a life insurance policy with children, but not a dependents arrangement, isn’t the most cost-effective option. To learn about.
What If Insurable Interest Changes in the Future?
What If Insurable Interest Changes in the Future? Insurable interest is a term used to describe certain kinds of financial dependents, such as a spouse. However, this is not the same as insurable interest, and if the dependent child is not covered to take on the financial burden, then, under certain circumstances, the may apply. If the dependent child becomes a at some future point, the may apply to take on the responsibility. In contrast, if the dependent child becomes a dependent adult and fails to return a portion of the benefits of the policy, there may be a loss of the benefit. For example, if the dependent child becomes a and becomes disabled, the may apply. In another example, if the dependent child becomes terminally ill, the may apply to take on the responsibility. In both cases, there is no to take down the payout but there is still the potential for loss of the life insurance policy, death benefits, and other benefits. Under , a person can’t purchase life.
Should I buy life insurance for my child?
Should I buy life insurance for my child? As the youngest of six, I’m worried that would have a negative impact on my life. But I am concerned the worst thing that could happen to my life could impact my ability to get my children back on my family’s health insurance if anything happens to them once their father is gone. Is there anything you would like to hear from the insurance company and your mother why not contact her directly about a possible future situation where they could get their father’s life insurance and see how I would like to get him his chance to get his family a quality life insurance plan. You do not want your sons to have to pay too much for their life insurance. You do not want your daughters, brothers, and friends to have to pay large medical bills and the financial burdens if they are unable to get a life insurance policy on your business. What you do want if something were to happen to them, but do not wish permission to do so, you may want to consider buying.
The Assassins [Hikaru Aihara] ~ Chapter 2
I forgot to mention before. I switch between first person and third person now and then in this story. It’s merely to show how my OC is seen through the eyes of others more or less.
Tumblr media
“Alice, let’s go to our tea party!” the Mad Hatter exclaimed as soon as the auction managers were gone.
I didn’t respond. There was only one thought swirling around in my mind…
I know who this is.
Suddenly the Mad Hatter spun me around and tied a blindfold around my eyes.
“I can’t see,” I stated, annoyed.
“Don’t move, Alice.” At that, I felt something cold on my neck. Even though I realised it was most likely a knife, I didn’t flinch. Why should I? I was used to things like this. “You’re not even scared, huh, Alice?” The Mad Hatter took the object away from my neck as he gripped my wrist. “I’ll lead you there.” The Mad Hatter walked slowly, leading me along.
 “We’re here.”
After a while if walking, the Mad Hatter slowly removed the blindfold. I blinked, letting my eyes get used to the light. I took a few steps forward and looked around. There was some kind of screen on the ceiling that stimulated a sky and the rest of the room looked like something out of a fantasy. It may have been modeled after the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland.
“Welcome, Alice, I’ve been waiting for you. We’re going to have a lot of fun together.”
“Is that so?” My voice was indifferent, to say the least.
“You’ll be living here, starting today! Your room is this way, Alice.” The Mad Hatter pointed to the smaller of two doors in the room. The room was very small and clustered. I grimaced. “You may only join the Tea Party when I have invited you, Alice. And I will escort you to and from Wonderland when necessary. Otherwise, do not leave this room… ever. Understand?”
“Don’t tell me what to do.”
“Understand?” the Mad Hatter asked a bit more forcefully in the hopes of intimidating me.
“I don’t answer to you.” I crossed her arms over my chest defiantly, staring him down.
“Hmph. The other one will be here in the morning, better try and get some sleep.” The Mad Hatter left the room, closing the door firmly behind him.
“I know who you are…” I verbalised my earlier thought in a low whisper, too quiet for him to hear.
It had been a week since I became the Mad Hatter’s so-called assistant. I went about my life as usual, spending my days working at the Ichinomiya Group office in London, going to university classes and returning to the underground tea room each night. I hadn’t been back at HQ or doing anything for the Wings of Freedom. As a member of the special opps squad, it was beginning to be a problem.
“Welcome home, Alice!”
“Yeah.”
“Alice, you came late to our meeting spot today.”
“I had work.”
“Mr. Ichinomiya told me you left the office at the same time as usual today. If you don’t come home, I might be so sad that I’ll cry to Mr. Ichinomiya.”
“I never said I had work to do for the company. I happen to have other work to do as well. None of which is your business. And you can’t be very bright if you think you can threaten me with my own brother.”
The Mad Hatter looked surprised for a moment before laughing my comment off.
“Alice, we’ll be having a tea party today! Let me make some delicious tea for us,” he said.
I didn’t respond as I sat down at the table. It was like this every afternoon. The Mad Hatter would call it a tea party and then proceed to making tea for the two of us.
At night, I lay in my bed and read. The Mad Hatter had taken away my cell phone and I found myself unable to sleep in the storage closet that was my “new room”.
 “So? What is the Mad Hatter like?”
One day, Eisuke called Hotaru’s office number to get a report from her.
“Well, hello to you, too,” she retorted indifferently over the receiver.
“Why can’t I reach your cell phone?” Eisuke asked.
“That idiot took it from me. You so owe me for this, my dear brother.”
“Whatever. So, what’s he like?”
“Eccentric. He never acts differently. It’s probably his real personality,” she replied.
“Whoa, that’s so creepy! How can you even live with him?” Ota asked.
“Probably because I’m used to stuff like that, hanging out with you freaks,” Hotaru retorted.
“Hey, don’t put us in the same league!” Ota pouted, despite the fact that his friend couldn’t see him.
“Is that all you can tell us about him?” Kishi asked.
“At the moment. But he lives in a place that looks like the tea party from Alice in Wonderland.”
“…Where is this place?” Eisuke asked.
“He blindfolds me to get there.”
“But you know where it is, anyway.” Eisuke smirked. He didn’t have to tell him that; he knew her like the back of his own hand.
“More or less. And anyway I don’t remember agreeing to be your spy.”
“I’m hanging up,” Eisuke said, not bothering to argue.
“Bye.”
 “Alice, let’s have a tea party! Please make us some delicious tea,” the Mad Hatter said as soon as he brought me down to the tea room.
“I’m not your maid. Do it yourself, Maddy,” she retorted, dumping my bag on one of the chairs at the table.
“Oh, Alice! You’ve gotten used to me! I like the nickname Maddy!”
“Don’t flatter yourself. I got fed up with calling you ‘Mad Hatter’.” As Maddy started boiling the water, I let out a sigh.
“Alice, are you worried about something?” Maddy asked.
I rubbed my temples.
“I’m just a little overworked, that’s all.”
“Alice, let’s call off our tea party for today. Let’s paint flowers on the wall to cheer you up.”
“Seriously?” I raised my eyebrows.
“Of course! There’s nothing more fun than painting flowers!”
I lightly touched the wall with my paintbrush.
“I’m going crazy…” I mumbled.
I myself agreed to do this job for Eisuke, but I had no idea how much I would miss spending my evenings in my own apartment. Not to mention doing this job was straining on both my body and my mind.
“Alice…” the Mad Hatter said, but I didn’t respond. “Would you like it if I bought you from the auction managers?”
At this my hand stopped. I slowly turned my head towards him.
“What did you say?”
“I can’t feel completely comfortable with you being my assistant as long as you belong to them, Alice.”
I sighed. “Eisuke is my brother. The contract from the auction two years ago is null and void.”
“Even so, I would like you to sign a work contract with me.” The Mad Hatter’s gloved hand produced a contract from seemingly out of nowhere.
“Let me see that.” I ripped the piece of paper away from him and sat down to read it.
“Read it carefully, please. I wrote this contract just for you, Alice.” My eyes glided over the words on the professionally written contract. “You want a chance, Alice. You’re waiting for a new journey. Am I right?”
“Be quiet,” I hissed at him.
“Please read the last item in the contract carefully.”
“The employer will provide necessary support and education for people skills enhancement so Alice can grow as a person and in her career,” I read out loud. I frowned.
“Are you hesitant about something, Alice? If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them,” Maddy said. Without answering, I picked up the pen next to me and scratched out the last sentence. “Alice!”
“I’m an Ichinomiya. I’m perfectly capable of exhibiting people skills. Someone like you could never hope to teach me anything of value.” And with that, I signed the contract without hesitation.
This contract was worth null and void to me, but it was most likely a step forward in my investigation. The Mad Hatter took the contract from me, his lips pulling up into a grin.
“Master!! Master! She signed the contract!” The Mad Hatter’s face was turned towards the freshly painted wall.
“Maddy, get me something to drink,” I requested, unfazed.
I figured there might be someone pulling the Mad Hatter’s strings from behind the scenes. No way could he make a secret room in this hotel on his own.
“Hmph, I heard you the first time,” a familiar voice came from behind the wall.
“I’m sorry, Master. But Alice has signed the contract!” the Mad Hatter exclaimed as he scurried off to the kitchen.
“Finally, took you long enough.”
A crack appeared in the wall and swung out like a door, sliding to the side. I gave it a side-glance before looking at my hands on top of the table.
“I could say the same to you… Hikaru Aihara,” I said. The person who appeared from the hidden door was someone I had met in Dubai, Hikaru Aihara.
“I’m your new employer,” Hikaru told me.
“You finally show your true colours,” I muttered as I sipped on the tea the Mad Hatter had placed in front of me.
“Alice, I did tell you to read the contract carefully.” The Mad Hatter turned the contract over to the back, where more was written.
By signing this contract, I agree to all above items and shall therefore follow my employer’s orders and instructions to his high standards. If my employer finds my performance to be below his standards, my employment will be terminated
“Master is your new employer, Alice!” the Mad Hatter said.
“Oh, is that all?” My response caused both Hikaru and the Mad Hatter to stare at me, mouths agape.
  To be continued.
Don’t reblog before like.
The Conversation on Minimum Wage in Ontario is Wrong: Here’s Why.
It is hard to get to the bottom of the dispute regarding minimum wage in Ontario. Very hard, actually. Opinions rang high in late 2018 when the Ontario government passed Bill 47, Making Ontario Open for Business Act, which saw the removal of increasing minimum wage to $15/hr, among other changes. Prior to its passing, commentators stated the following:
The Ontario government should listen to the sensible advice of economists and reinstate the planned minimum wage hike.
[Bill 47] takes away two paid sick days…that will will simply encourage sick people to go to work, where they’re likely to infect others, reducing productivity and adding to health care costs if they end up in hospital.
In what could be described as a pro-poverty agenda, [the Ontario government] is slashing in half the previous government’s planned increase in welfare payments, shutting down Ontario’s universal basic income project that held promise of becoming a world model and scrapping the planned further $1 an hour increase in the minimum wage, to $15, effective Jan. 1, 2019.
Pro-poverty agenda?
I cannot in good faith believe that any government — at least in Canada and hopefully anywhere else — is for poverty.
In no way am I trying to undermine the legitimate fight for workers’ rights and the rise in precarious work across Ontario. The reality is more Ontarians are earning minimum wage than before and the numbers prove this.
In 1997, approximately 2.7 per cent of all workers earned minimum wage. By 2014, this increased to about 11.9 per cent. And, the number of workers making within $5 of the minimum wage increased from about 20 per cent to nearly 30 per cent. The majority of minimum wage earners are in precarious employment.
What is precarious employment?
Some aspects of precarious employment include the following:
Employees on contract with no fixed end-date and can be terminated within 1–2 weeks notice;
There are inconsistent hours and irregular shifts;
The percentage of workers in the most insecure forms of employment (e.g., self-employed, temporary and contract work) have increased by approximately 60 percent since 1989; and
Associated with the documented health costs to increased precarious work, as well limiting a family’s ability to save and invest in their children, there is also research to suggest barriers to training to attain higher net earnings. Workers in permanent positions are 40 per cent more likely to access training opportunities compared to those in the precarious employment sector.
Some may think the majority of minimum wage earners are youth living at home with their parents. In fact, only 18 per cent of those earning minimum wage were between 15–19. And the largest age groups that earn minimum wage are between 20–39. Research has also found that women are more likely to work part time, more likely to care for children and the elderly and are more likely to work in low wage industries. As well, recent immigrants (those in Canada less than 10 years) are over represented in the minimum wage earning group. Approximately 35 per cent of recent immigrants earn minimum wage, compared to Ontario’s 23 per cent average.
What did the previous government propose?
It is no wonder why the previous government, based on this data, proposed Bill 148 in 2017, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, which was employee-driven and saw more benefits enshrined in law for workers — particularly that the minimum wage would rise to $15/hr by 2019.
Under Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals, the Province undertook raising the minimum wage as part of a larger strategy, entitled the Fair Workplaces Better Jobs Act. Under this plan, the following was to be established as part of Bill 148:
A plan to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour on January 1, 2019;
Up to 17 weeks leave after a worker or their child has survived domestic or sexual violence, with the first five days being paid days of leave;
Ten days of personal emergency leave per calendar year for all workers, including two paid days;
A required three weeks annual paid vacation for all workers who have been with the same employer for five or more years; and
Equal pay for part-time workers who do the same job as full-time workers.
Many critics worried this was too employee-driven, and that changes were needed. In fact, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce called for the full repeal of Bill 148, citing many concerns — most notably that businesses may reduce the level of capital investment in the Province and that staff hours would also subsequently be reduced in light of the changes.
What is the current government doing?
On November 2, 2018 — Bill 47 — Making Ontario Open for Business Act — introduced (and later passed on November 21, 2018) by the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario aimed at reducing red tape and other barriers to employers in creating jobs and expanding opportunities for workers. Specifically, the Bill would do the following:
Keep minimum wage at $14 on January 1, 2019, and establish a 33-month pause in minimum wage increases with annual increases to the minimum wage, tied to inflation, to restart in 2020;
Every worker is now entitled to three days for personal illness, two for bereavement and three for family responsibilities (total of 8 days); and
Preserves the right of every worker in Ontario to receive three weeks of paid vacation after five years, and protect current paid leave provisions for cases of domestic and sexual violence affecting an employee or an employee’s child.
Sound familiar? Both Bills, while different in many respects, are similar as well. The previous government provided two (2) sick days: this is now removed. The previous government wanted equal pay regardless of Full Time or Part Time hours. This is removed.
However, what is kept by the current legislation is something workers rights groups advocated for: paid vacation after 5 years. Paid leave in cases of domestic and sexual violence. These are critical wins for workers.
Wins for Employees Under the Current Legislation
Both the Liberal and Progressive Conservative Party included key aspects of employee rights in their respective Legislation. In fact, the group — Fight for $15 and Fairness — which is regularly featured protesting the current government’s changes released a very interesting and critical documentdiscussing all of the wins for workers that happened under the current legislation of Bill 47.
But this document and the aspects of Bill 47 that have been maintained from Bill 148 are not attention-grabbing enough. Who wants to hear that the Liberal Party and the Progressive Conservative Party actually agree — especially when it comes to minimum wage and the rights of workers?
Why this Conversation Matters
It has happened countless times. Over and over again. I’m in a conversation with someone and there it is: a snarky comment, an underhanded jab, a political snipe, at Donald Trump, Conservatives, right-wingers, left-wingers, liberals, environmentalists — the list goes on. Without even knowing much of the debate, we have grown accustomed to weaving political attacks into our discourse without even knowing it. We throw around phrases without facts to back it up and presume others believe it to be true. In doing so, it is undermining our ability to further the conversation.
How many protests have happened where there was no clear understanding of the differences in Legislation? Of course, I am not advocating not to protest, but it is even more critical that it is evidence-based: particularly when you are stating an opinion in a public forum. Perhaps it’s the anonymity of protesting that is appealing? Getting lost in a crowd, or going with friends?
I say these things because the conversation on workers rights is too important to treat unfairly. Minimum wage earners are rising; precarious labour is rising. And with automation not too far in the future, one can only anticipate this to continue.
That is why it is important when we launch attacks against a government, a politician or a direction in legislation, we do so relying on evidence and facts.
Our discourse is so important for our future. That is why I created a podcast, which tries to look at topics from both sides. If we keep lambasting the other side, we miss the areas where we actually agree on.
I look forward to you listening to my podcast tomorrow, February 3 on Minimum Wage in Ontario. Hopefully this will continue the conversation in a more positive light.
The JYJ lawsuit...
Was asked a series of questions to explain the JYJ lawsuit. The reason why it's "impossible" for "anybody" to understand is that no media outlet ever has made any proper journalistic attempt to actually explain the legal argument in the lawsuit.
Accordingly, this will be long:
Part 1. Understanding the actual legal argument in the lawsuit
Background point 1:
I'm sure you must be aware that almost all countries have extremely strong employment contract laws in order to protect "human rights" of employees. You can basically quit your job whenever you want if you don't want to do it anymore. You'd typically just have to give your employer a month's notice, or 3 months at most, to give the employer some time to solve who's gonna handle your tasks after you quit. South Korea is no different in this to any other developed country.
Background point 2:
As I have tried to explain many times before (most recently here)... A celebrity is not employed by its agency - it's the other way around that a celebrity hires a management agency:
If you're an independent singer you can go take vocal lessons and pay by the hour. You can hire a studio to record music in and pay by the hour. You can hire a designer to create an album design for you. You can go buy a stage outfit to wear. You can go get your hair done at your saloon. You can hire a lawyer by hour to help you with the fine print in contracts for deals. You can hire an accountant by hour to help you with your accounts. You can hire some PR expert to help you with media. You can hire a secretary to help you with contacts and schedules. You can travel by your own car to your schedules. Etc etc etc.
But if you're gonna be some successful busy celebrity, it's obviously impossible to actually handle the above shit by yourself. So instead you hire a management agency to help sort EVERYTHING for you. But a top management agency will not charge you per hour of work. Instead the deal will be that the agency gets paid a cut of your earnings from your activities. That way, the agency makes more money the more money you make. So you'll both be happy if you're successful and you'll both be unhappy if you're unsuccessful.
Agencies like SM are basically experts at helping new young rookies become superstars with successful celebrity careers. If you're a nobody and go to an agency like SM and ask them to help you with everything to make you a superstar, then obviously first off you're going to have to show them that you might actually have what it takes to make it to convince them to spend money/time/effort on you (through auditions and a trainee period with continuous evaluations). And before they'll help you launch your career you'll also have to sign a long term contract. In the case of the SM-TVXQ case a contract where SM got to take 30-35% of the profits from TVXQ's activities during 13 years from debut (to be specific it was 30% from international activities, 35% from activities in Korea, and 40% from photobooks).
Background point 3:
In the SM-TVXQ contract there were some very important parts written. For example there was one sentence that said that the celebrity must perform activities decided upon by the company.
If you consider the fact that SM are debuting new groups with lots of teenagers in each group, then it should be very obvious why such things were written in the contracts. Clearly all the members must show up for their schedules and do what they're supposed to do and clearly all the members must wear clothing/styling according to the group concept etc. How the fuck would things turn out otherwise? And on the flip side: why would anybody go to a company for SM and ask that company to help make them a superstar but then not do the things the company says to do?
Finally, the legal argument:
Being aware of the above 3 points we can finally understand the actual legal argument JYJ used in court. The case they argued was basically along the lines of:
“Look here at our contracts: they say we have to do as told by the company and we don't have any say in what to do. We don't want to do anything as told by the company anymore. But the contracts says we have to continue to do everything as told by the company for another 7 years. Shouldn't the employment contract laws protect our human rights and mean that we're not bound to this contract?”
Part 2. The proceedings of the case
JYJ initially filed a petition for an injunction. An injunction is a temporary decision, because the actual law-case may take a very long time to be resolved. This is nothing strange. I have myself as a professional been involved in civil lawsuits that are up to 15 years long (note: involved. I'd probably rather kill myself than actually process a case for 15 years).
The court granted JYJ's petition for an injunction fairly quick, in October 2009. The court basically agreed with JYJ's legal argument, that the wordings in the contract that "JYJ had to do as told by SM" etc were so severe that JYJ's situation would fall under the protection of the extremely strong employment contracts laws. Meaning JYJ could quit their contract whenever they wanted.
JYJ didn't file an actual lawsuit at the time of filing the petition for injunction (which you'd normally do).
Instead, since JYJ was granted the injunction, it was SM that first filed an objection to the judgment for injunctive relief.
The case of SM's objection went on for about 1.5 years. Long story short, what SM tried to argue was the following 4 points:
In practise, JYJ weren't told what to do by SM as if JYJ were employed by SM. Even tough the contracts said JYJ had to do as told, in reality, all the TVXQ members had hired SM to help them manage scheculing of activities and that scheduling was done according to TVXQ members' wishes.
SM hadn't been in any position to impose one-sided contract terms. SM was merely a small player in the Korean celebrity industry as a whole and it was all the TVXQ members who had come to SM asking to sign contracts to begin with. And during further negotiations and ammendments during 2003-2008 members hadn't expressed any such concerns.
Letting the JYJ members go from their contracts completely was extremely out of proportion. SM had invested huge money/time/effort to make TVXQ into international superstars specifically because the deal signed entitled SM to 30% of TVXQ's proftis for another 7 years.
And finally, during the course of the JYJ-vs-SM proceedings, the Korean FTC had updated their suggested standard contracts. If these new standard contract terms (7 years minimum) would have been applied, JYJ would still be under valid contract with SM for at least another 1 year)
But in February 2011 the court completely dismissed SM's objection. Long story short, the court replied to SM's 4 points that:
It's completely impossible for SM to prove that they didn't order JYJ members what to do. Therefore the case has to be handled under the assumption that SM could order JYJ members what to do as written in the contract no matter what (basically, it's the same as asking an atheist to prove that a God doesn't exist: It's impossible to prove that something doesn't exist)
The court didn't care about SM being a relatively small company in the industry. The court still thought SM was in a way superior position to JYJ members who all were unknown rookies at the time of signing the contracts. And all of the amendments done to the contracts during 2003-2008 were basically done with the good will of SM (since the members were already under long term contracts) and therefore meant nothing about JYJ's position.
The court fully acknowledged that indeed SM had only made such huge investments into TVXQ based on the long term contracts the TVXQ members had signed to let SM get a cut for many further years. However, the court's weighted point of view was that no such commitments by SM could ever justify the infractions on JYJ's "human rights" that it would mean for JYJ to have to do as told by SM for another 7 years in additions to the 6 years already served. The court literally told SM that SM had to sign new artists to shorter contracts, and in turn also spend much less money on new artists to still leave a profitable business for SM.
And finally, the court's view was that the contract couldn't be seen as only in part invalid. There was no legal basis for the court to judge that JYJ at a minimum should be held to the 7 years in the new FTC standard contract after the court had found the SM-TVXQ contract was invalid and the JYJ members were free to leave.
OK, so obviously as the court dismissed SM's objection to the injunction in February 2011, JYJ had won the main case.
But there were a number of additional lawsuits:
Management agencies typically at most settle accounts with celebrities every 3 months. After JYJ filed their injunction, SM obviously stopped paying JYJ. So JYJ sued SM to get paid all further money they were owned by their contracts for their activities up to that point.
In addition, JYJ also tried to sue SM for a much larger amount arguing that their contracts had been invalid and unfair to start with.
Meanwhile, JYJ leaving had meant that SM had to cancel a planned SMTOWN concert and some endorsement contracts had been broken. So SM tried to sue JYJ to get compensation for these events.
Eventually the cases were settled with SM paying the withheld money according to the contracts.
Part 3. Now that you understand the actual legal argument used by JYJ EVERYTHING else will suddenly make sense.
Surely you've read time and time again in media about how JYJ sued SM for contract termination because they thought the contracts were unfair and they were treated badly. But that is merely the story JYJ spammed in media about why they wanted to break the contracts in order to gain sympathy for their quest to break the contracts. THE ACTUAL LEGAL ARGUMENT HAD FUCK ALL TO DO WITH THAT.
A whole lot of other celebrities have later tried to get out of their long contracts with Korean agencies, and pretty much everyone has failed miserably: Block B, BAP, Tasty, ex-EXO, etc all lost their lawsuits. How come? Because as I have just explained above JYJ's actual legal argument was never about any unfair contract or bad treatment. JYJ basically found a loophole through a technicality in their contracts which made it possible for them to instantly get out of their long term contracts, and obviously no other artists had that same loophole in their contracts after that.
What really does everybody's head in (when people haven't understood the actual legal argument as outlined above) is that if JYJ's contracts were unfair and they were treated badly by SM (as was the story JYJ told in media), then why did Yunho and Changmin stay? And why did all the other celebrities in SM also stay? EVERYBODY in SM could have left exactly like JYJ since they all had the same paragraphs in their contracts. The answer is of course obvious: Nobody thought they had unfair contracts. Nobody thought they were treated badly. So they all stayed.
And for example BAP's lawsuit in 2014 revealed that their contract with TS Entertainment had considerably worse terms than the 2009 SM-TVXQ contract (50-50 profit split, compared to 70-65/30-35 in the SM-TVXQ contracts).
JYP Entertainment themselves revealed 2013 in this document (it's written on page 87 (89 of 355) if you download the full PDF document) that JYP artists typically have contracts with 50-50 deals, just like TS, which are considerably worse terms than the 2009 SM-TVXQ contract (and obviously this can be no surprise to any non-idiotic reader of this blog who has spent any minute on reading JYP's financial reports).
YG Entertainment themselves revealed 2014 in this document (it's written on page 46 (47 of 278) if you download the full PDF document) that they had signed Lee Hi to a 10-year contract (even though all dumb fans think the FTC has imposed a 7 years rule).
But what can I say... Most fans don't want to know about reality, they just want to believe whatever stories they get spoon-fed in media.
