he isn't very vocal when you give him a gift, but most of the time he simply is at a loss for words. zoro isn't the type to think much about gifts that people give him, but something handmade from you holds a special place in his heart, especially if creating art is related to your dream—to him, it shows dedication, a trait he really admires in you.

will wear any bracelets you give him until they inevitably fall apart from excessive wear and tear or getting accidentally sliced off in battle; at first he simply wears whatever you give him, but after a while he'll gruffly ask you to make the next one black and green.

he's terrible at expressing it, but he enjoys the drawings and paintings you make of him that range from full-fledged pieces to silly doodles. at first, you weren't sure if he was even keeping them, until you find a stack of them at the bottom of his drawer, kept neatly out of harm's way.

fawns and coos over every scrap of paper and gift you make for him; he loves to show your accomplishments off and brag to anyone who will listen and can't help but ramble on about how talented his lover is with all things crafty.

will wear any piece of jewelry, even if it makes him look absolutely silly. one time you turned a neat looking shell you found on the beach together into a necklace that was far too clunky and large to look good, but he wore it to death anyways, getting emotional every so often as he recalls the memory.

when you redraw his first wanted poster, creating something that both you and he feels is more accurate to his likeness, he falls to a heap on the ground and cries in happiness. the way you capture him, mixed with the care you put into each stroke of your colored pencils melts him into a puddle of lovestruck goo.

one-upping each other with handmade gifts is a not-so-silent competition between you two. he deeply loves and appreciates all of your gifts, in his own clumsy, brutish way, but he can't help but want to return every present you give him with something better.

though he is resolved to knock your socks off and "win" the never-ending competition between you, he also takes it upon himself to help you take your own projects to the next level, even if it sometimes spoils the surprise for him. he teaches you basic metalworking and wire-wrapping to make your handmade jewelry more professional, and has no problem doing some plundering to get his hands on some rare stones for you to use.

some of his favorite times are spent tinkering in his workshop, with him working on a large-scale mechanical engineering project while you diligently make your crafts alongside him. though most of the time you have to yell over to each other to overpower the hum of machinery, spending time hanging out and chatting with you while you both create something worthwhile means the world to him.

OS had that first season charm. Very unpolished, still finding its footing but super enjoyable for those reasons

Probably the strongest series comedy-wise

That GORGEOUS 90s anime style

Main character dynamics were REALLY strong

Ash's personality felt much more like a shitty little 10 year old which was entertaining

Dub writing was also the best hands down

Sun & Moon (S20-S22)

Honestly tied for first with OS for me

REALLY fun ensemble cast! They do a fantastic job giving each character enough time for you to get to know and care about

Excellent modern anime style that perfectly fit the vibe of the season and allowed for some of the best character animation of the show's run

Finally figured out how to write Ash like a 10 year old again (but in a kind/sweet 10 year old way as opposed to OS)

Very different from previous series in terms of the formula they'd follow. Doing a school series instead of another "8 badges to championship" plot felt new and fresh!

This series genuinely made me cry the most (MEMORIES IN THE MIST!!!!! LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME)

Chronicles (S0)

Fun concept! It was really nice to see more of the side characters without Ash there. We get to see more of Misty, Tracey, Daisy, Brock, Ritchie, Oak, Delia, Butch, Cassidy, Jessie, James and Meowth!

Stylistically really nice. Just solid drawings all around and it retained the 90s anime style in digital form more successfully than other digitally done series imo

BUTCH AND CASSIDY!!! Team Rocket centric episodes!!! Training Daze!!!!!!!

Idk how possible it would have been (seems like a TON of work) but it made me want one of these in between each season, where we'd follow the characters that Ash had just said goodbye to for the next region.

Diamond and Pearl (S10-S13)

Series I grew up with! Honestly I was kinda a hater as a kid but having watched it back, I love the series

Love that Ash and Dawn were bros. They had a really fun dynamic.

Debatably peak Team Rocket. They had some of the best Team Rocket centric episodes this series.

Contests were really fun and a bit more figured out compared to the Advanced series

Fun, memorable rivals for Ash (Paul and Barry) as well as Dawn (Zoey, Kenny and Jessilina sometimes)

This is unfortunately where I stopped caring about Ash as much. He feels kinda watered down for the next couple series.

Advanced (S6-S9)

Pretty tied up with DP for me

Really fun series! Still had some of that early Pokémon charm

I appreciated that they put Ash in more of a mentor role for May (but he still had a lot to learn himself).

Ash and May constantly butting heads was really fun

May was a very compelling character to me, being very clumsy, kinda lazy, directionless, not really into Pokémon, etc. But then over time, she comes around and finds something she's interested in!

Journeys (S23-S25)

I love the episodic take as well as the way they let the characters jump around from region to region at random

Goh was a GREAT travel companion to Ash. They contrast each other nicely, have moments where they get on each others' nerves but still get along and have a mutual admiration for one another.

It was fun that they made Goh's thing catching every Pokémon (the motto of the entire series) so they could focus on Ash just training and prepping for Worlds.

Amaaaazing style. Took the great parts of classic Pokémon, roundness of SM and blended em together for a really fun look.

Black & White (S14-S16)

I don't think it's that controversial to have BW this low haha

I did enjoy Iris and Cilan but it felt like the writers didn't reaaally know what to do with them? Also this was their first time in a while not having Brock and it shows. I feel like Brock was successful because he was grounded and lower energy compared to the rest of the kids. Having 3 pretty eccentric characters is kind of a lot. No hate to the characters in the slightest, there was just not as much balance.

I think maybe they leaned on Cilan and Iris for more comedic relief because they killed the comedic relief that was Team Rocket this series. I appreciate them trying something new with Jessie, James and Meowth but I don't think it worked very well lol

XY (S17-S19)

I've ranted about this series a lot LOL. I get the appeal of it, but it just wasn't for me. I felt like it was the weakest comedy-wise and took itself a bit too seriously for my taste

My main gripe is that Serena, Clemont and Bonnie all like,,, worship Ash. By doing so, Ash begins to feel like a side character because we're constantly looking at Ash through their eyes. There's so little conflict within the group so their dynamics feel really flat. I think this dynamic could have worked if they leaned waaay more into Ash being a mentor and maybe feeling the pressure of having to be a role model for the people around him.

Team Rocket very much feels like an afterthought in this series. They did in Journeys as well, but at least in Journeys they were doing something silly and also had a handful of episodes dedicated to em.

Outside of that, the episodes weren't super memorable for me

I think it's just frustrating because there was sooooo much potential character-wise

Honestly probably doesn't even notice you're any different at first until you start zipping around

I would say that of the four he's the one that cares the least

That isn't to say he doesn't care at all, far from it! He's got more than a handful of schemes, plots, ploys, etc ready to use when the need should arise

Depending on how you fly and such, he might take your movements into consideration when it comes to his own flight or when training troops. The information gets passed on to Starscream for the latter, but he's still aware of it

He doesn't expect you to be able to keep up with him when he's flying, but he will commend the effort

He does expect your wings to be in peak condition; they're one of your defining features and something that he see as putting you above the rest of your species

If you're at all self conscious about your wings, he scoffs and tells you to take pride in what sets you apart. It's not great advice, but it's something

Soundwave

Enjoys running his fingers through your feathers if you'll let him

Despite being in a relationship, he's still got a job to do. If you're up for it, he'll ask you to do recon or survey areas that need to be scouted in a more subtle way

He's not above using your humanity for the benefit of the Decepticons, but he wouldn't knowingly put you in harms way

Of the four, he's got the easiest time helping you groom your wings due to how thin his digits are

He draws comparisons between you and Laserbeak at times, though he does keep those thoughts to himself

Shockwave

Dude has got plans and ploys in place to test things and ideas

At times it might feel like you're more an experiment than a partner

He's always more than happy to run tests on how far you can fly and how fast, how much weight you can carry and for how long/far

He's also rather interested in your biology, pulling up diagrams of a typical human body and comparing it to yours, trying to figure out why you're different

It might be hard to notice, but he's more careful when it comes to tests. It's one of the few ways he has to show he does actually care about you, and doesn't want to see you hurt if it can be avoided

If there's something you want to train towards physically, you can count on him to come up with the most optimal training program possible

He finds it helpful to have you in the lab and having you zip around and collecting tools for him so he doesn't have to step away from his work

He understands the concept of keeping muscles strong, and makes sure you exercise enough if you're keeping him company in the lab

Knock Out

Dude makes sure you know how pretty your wings are

Makes sure you've got every product you'd ever need to keep them in top condition. Don't ask where he got them from tho

Schedules regular sessions where the two of you just preen and gossip

Also finds it super helpful that you can just fly up and reach the spots he can't and buff them out for him

Absolutely admires the strength you have in your wings. The idea that you have to actually flap them and have enough strength to get yourself off the ground is foreign to him as it's super different for Cybertronians

Not a fan of molting tbh. There's feathers everywhere and guh they're everywhere

Will still (reluctantly) help you deal with it tho

Knock Out makes sure you know he thinks that your wings make you much cooler than other people, and is not above making fun of the Autobots for having 'inferior' humans on their side

James is standing a few short paces from you, an encouraging smile on his face, arms outstretched and urging you forwards.

It's not helping.

He's trying. Bless him, he's trying. But it's not helping. Your hands are shaking and your legs feel like jelly as you stand with his broom between your legs and what you hope is a determined look on your face. You really couldn't stand if he knew just how nervous you actually are. What you're supposed to do is hover mere centimetres off the ground and fly the incredibly short distance towards him, but what you feel like doing is abandoning all hope, calling it a day, and high tailing it back to the castle.

It's ironic, really, these feelings you have for a boy who is so well versed in flying and yet, the mere idea of sitting on a broom makes you nauseous. Sure, there's more to James than flying. He's kind and thoughtful, he's so pretty it almost hurts to look at, and while he can be arrogant and crass sometimes, he's got a heart of gold, and is probably one of the most genuine people you've ever met. You don't know many people who would give up their afternoon in Hogsmeade to help you overcome a silly fear like flying. But ultimately, he's Hogwarts' elected Quidditch King and the idea of letting him down feels utterly overwhelming. You know he won't care either way - he's James, after all - but you care.

He always makes such an effort with your interests, reading, drawing, he even spends time with you in the green houses on a Wednesday night as you tend to the abnormal plants he knows nothing about, other than that you've singlehandedly brought most of them back from the brink of death on sheer determination and care.

The fear claws at your throat like a dull ache, your heart hammering against your rib cage. But James is there, kind eyes and encouraging words, and you feel like maybe this will be possible.

James urges you forward gently, encouragingly, a kind smile on his lips that makes you believe you might actually be capable. With a shaky breath, you go over the rehearsed check list in your head; hands tight, legs firm, kick off, lean forward, breathe normal.

The broom seems to lift off on its own accord - James' own broom is better than the Hogwarts assigned brooms - and it carries you safely, albeit a little quickly to James. He's there, like he said he would be, holding you by the shoulders and bringing the broom to a halt. He's smiling something breathtaking and it makes you smile, too, despite the fact that your tiptoes are barely touching the ground.

"Told you you could do it." His voice is filled with affection, sweet like honey and it warms your chest.

He's so lovely. It's dizzying, almost.

"I think I might be sick." You tell him honestly.

He chuckles. Not at you, never at you, but at your delivery, your shaky legs as he helps you back onto solid ground. It'd taken you an hour to even sit on the broom and James knows you've probably missed lunch, by now. He looks to the sky, head tilted up so you can see the planes of his throat more clearly. His Adam's apple bobs as he swallows, assessing the grey storm clouds rolling towards the pitch. He frowns, and you do, too. The approaching storm means your time together is over.

"How about this time, I fly, you hold on?" James suggests, desperate to find a way to keep you close to him, "That way you can get used to the height without worrying about being in control of the broom."

His hand is on your shoulder, thumb brushing the juncture of your neck and it's really hard to be worried about your fear of falling to your death via Nimbus 2000 when James is touching you so softly, so affectionately. It steals the breath from your lungs, imaginary birds swirling around the crown of your head like some sort of cartoon. All you can do is stare dazedly at him, lips parted.

Surely he knows how he affects you. Surely he's put the pieces together. Everyone knows you hate flying, you've never had any willingness to learn. Even the flight lesson professor had dismissed you from any and all classes, tired of having the same argument every week. James must know there's a reason you've agreed to such an activity on a random Saturday in November.

His eyes are full of warmth as he looks down at you, lips upturned just slightly as he pulls his broom from between your fingers with his free hand. His thumb presses your pulse point as a reminder to his question, eyes full of something you can't read, and you find yourself nodding. The opportunity to hold onto James, to place your head on his shoulder and your arms around his waist, to smell the bergamot sweet cologne he's wearing up close, it's all too tempting, and you find yourself agreeing, climbing onto the back of his broom.

"Hold on, love, okay? I promise you're safe, but we can stop at any time." James mumbles, his right hand warm and soft as he squeezes at yours placed firmly over his stomach.

He's toned through his woollen jumper, and that's just something you don't want to think about too hard.

James kicks off softly, at first, flying in slow circles around the pitch and slowly increasing his height each time. He talks you through it all, voice soft and comforting, but assuring in your safety. You've never felt so safe on a broom before. Maybe it's James, maybe it's just that he's such a steady flier. Maybe it's the way he's steering with one hand, the other laced through one of yours, firm and strong, keeping you tethered to him.

The wind is biting and cold, so you hide your face in the planes of his back against soft wool and breathe him in. It's comforting, warming, it makes you smile.

You refuse to look down, still, refuse to move an inch, refuse to actually pay attention as James explains how leaning one way or the other is beneficial, how leaning forwards and backwards isn't always the best way to control speed. His voice drones on in your ear as you become engulfed by him, feeling safe and in control, even fifty feet in the air. You know James will stop whenever you ask, so when the wind becomes too much, your cheeks and nose sufficiently numb, and the broom begins to jump like airplane turbulence because of the wind, you do ask.

Your legs feel wobbly back on solid ground, but James' hands on your waist are steadying. His face is bright with happiness, fond with pride. It makes your heart swell and your cheeks flush a deeper crimson.

"Thank you," You whisper, fingers toying with the hem of his jumper, "For keeping me safe."

James' smile grows impossibly wider, impossibly fonder, "Always, lovie."

You groan at the pet name, one he knows makes you flushed and embarrassed.

"Thanks for pretending to be interested in learning to fly just to appease me." James' voice is cheeky, his hands squeezing teasingly at your waist and you guffaw.

"I wasn't pretending!"

"Please," James rolls his eyes in amusement, "We both know the only reason you got on that broom is because I was looking at you like I wanted to kiss you and it was distracting."

So he does know. James is always flirty, always very bold and confident where you lack in that department. It's fine, in his eyes, he can flirt enough for the both of you.

"And did you?" You ask, channelling the final dregs of braveness in you for today.

James laughs, surprised by your boldness, "I did."

"So do it."

And he does. It's soft and sweet and everything you never imagined kissing James Potter would be. Sure, he's a kind boy, gentle with you always, but he's a massive flirt, and you'd always assumed he'd kiss like one. But this is better. So much better.

He pulls you close, a hand on your jaw and his lips moving in slow, languid kisses, breath warm as it fans over your face. He tastes like Sirius' mint lip balm concoction - the sure fire way to make sure my Moons always wants a snog - and coffee from breakfast. He's strong and firm as he stands there, allowing you to lean into him fully.

The kiss only lasts a handful of seconds, but it leaves you short of breath, your cheeks appled out from the sheer force of your smile.

"So," James speaks softly, tucking a fallen piece of hair behind your ear, "Flying, have I changed your mind?"

You laugh, leaning further into his sturdy chest, "If you kiss me like that every time I get off a broom then yes, Jamie, you've changed my mind."

When you realized, she was chocking with her beer and you were laughing, pretending it was because of the scene and not because of the whole scenario of her being shocked with your messages. She told with some detail about what she was thinking, but you went further. And further.

Abby wasn't the one to push too much by text, preferring to put stuff in action, whisper the words into your ear. She was the type to imply and accomplish. You, on the other hand, were a-okay about put into words all your needs.

I'll say this first and foremost, Luocha is a brat and he welcomes that title with pride. He just always has to have the last laugh, he'll taunt and tease you in that smooth, deceptively innocent voice of his. I wrote some of it back in this post, but if I were to expand on it, there's a very big difference on how Luocha acts when he's attracted to someone, as opposed to when he's in love with them. You'll have to prepare for a slow burn though, because Luocha (like 60% of all HSR men) has walls upon walls around his heart. He's someone who constantly wanders the cosmos and rarely settles down for even a second. When he's attracted to someone, he's like how I described above - provocative, teasing, smug and flirty. A little shit. But when he loves someone?

Luocha doesn't hate the way he feels around you, but it still scares him, even for a little bit. He's still teasing, but he softens around you, and by a lot. Sometimes, when the air feels a little too empty without his prattling, you'll turn around to find him staring at you, taking in every little detail about you. When he realizes you've noticed him, he only gives you a little smile before turning away, leaving you confused. His fingers are always intertwined with yours, and by the Aeons, is he protective of you. If he even hears that you're in the vicinity of danger, he's immediately running over regardless of what he's doing currently. Luocha isn't that much of a fighter himself, but when it comes to you, he'd gladly draw his sword.

10. How good at cuddling is Luocha?

He's uh. He's definitely new at it BYEE I honestly don't think that despite his personality, Luocha has much experience on that kind of intimacy. When you and Seokmin first started dating, there had been a lot of… intimacy. So much that your friends told you to just lock yourselves in your or his dorm room to get it all out of your system. Back then you had replied that you most definitely did not have the time to lock yourself away for the next five years. They had just rolled your eyes at you. 

Now, three years later there is still intimacy but you and Seokmin had both learned to control yourselves until you were alone. 

What hadn’t changed though was the amount of love between you. The way he had his arms wrapped around you as you stood in the kitchen cooking dinner, his cheek pressed against yours as he told you about his day. The way he would text you memes throughout the day hoping to make you laugh. Seokmin was and is the only person who knows exactly who you are. Who knows what you think and what you need. Sometimes you think he knows you better than you know yourself. 

It's days like these when you’re laying on the floor in the living room under the makeshift fort, blankets hung over furniture and a star projector making you feel like you were actually in the outdoors, that you tell yourself there is no one you love as much as him. He holds your hand in his, both of them laying on top of his chest and you can feel his heartbeat, his pretty voice telling you stories about princesses and kings and witches who all used to go to these woods and undergo the craziest adventures. You look at him, look at the way he is so invested in his own made up story and you can’t stop yourself from leaning forward and pressing a kiss onto his cheek. He stops mid-sentence and freezes for a few seconds, before he turns his head around to face you, his brown eyes wide.

“I wasn’t done yet, Y/N! I still need to tell you how the witch and the prince got themselves out of the candy house!” You chuckle at his words and now press a kiss to his pouty lips instead of his cheek. 

“You’re adorable,” you mumble then and red creeps onto his cheeks. 

“Stop it, you’re making me blush!” he says, hiding his face dramatically behind his hands. Now, you truly laugh, sitting up to grab his hands away, instead bringing them to your mouth and kissing his knuckles tenderly. Seokmin looks up at you with all the stars from the projector now in his eyes. When he smiles and sits up too, your heart does what it always does when he is around you. It gets warm and cozy, it jumps happily.You are never this content with anyone but him. He frees his hands out of yours, placing them on your cheeks before leaning down to kiss you - or at least that's what you think he’s about to do. Instead his nose meets yours, slowly rubbing them together, before placing a soft kiss on top of it.

“I love you. I love you so much,” he whispers, pulling you into a hug now and you wrap your arms around his neck, inhaling his scent, losing yourself in the warmth of his body. You sit like this for a while, feeling his fingers draw all kinds of pictures on your back, his giggle making you giggle. If you could, you would love to just stay seated like this forever. 

He parts from you after a while, smile adjoining his lips and you sigh happily.

“What would I do without you?” You ask and he shrugs slightly, finger raised to eventually - boop your nose. Your eyebrows raise in surprise. When he does it again, you snort.

“What are you doing?”

“What does it look like I’m doing?” He replies, continuing his spiel as he simultaneously begins to kiss your cheeks, alternating between them every new boop. You are speechless and on cloud nine, not sure how you ever deserved such a loving and caring boyfriend who treats you so well. 

“You’re silly,” you laugh and Seokmin joins in, only to stop when his lips meet yours this time.

“And you’re the love of my life,” he whispers then, his fingers now caressing your cheek and moving into your hair. Your heart beat picks up speed. 

“Seokminnie…,” you begin, not even sure what happened, how the atmosphere suddenly shifted. 

Only when he moves to the side and takes something out of his jacket, you realize. Your breath gets stuck in your throat and tears are about to spill out. Seokmin continues to smile as he gets the little box into your point of view. 

“You’re the love of my life,” he repeats, “and I never want to be without you.” He opens the box. You smile and cry and nod your head even before he asks the question.

I wanna start with I love your blog sm and I’m not trying to jump on the train, in fact I don’t even mind if you just read this and don’t post or even just delete after you read, but I know where the “Rook gaslighter” thing comes from and wanted to explain (I also just LOVE talking about rook even if its negative). Im not explaining to change your mind but rather to inform!! Because I love spending hours analyzing the characters, pls don’t stop drawing rook!! Ever!!

ANYWAYS now that “please don’t hate me I have to uncontrollably explain everything about my favorite character(s) the second someone doesn’t know about one small detail 😭” is over, I will explain! During Vil’s lab wear vignette, Rook asks Vil when he’s going to start his new diet. Vil, confused, is like what??? Tf?? And rook is like “yeah :D you have put on 3 pounds exactly :)”. Vil is lowkey like wtf Rook I haven’t noticed shit and rook is like “okayyy but who do you believe? Me or literally anyone else?” And vil is like “yeah you’re right, I’ll adjust my diet, thank you rook”.

The ‘issue’ with the “rook is a gaslighter” is it’s SOLELY a fandom thing (and maybe with other characters, but still, like. Vil is a world class model he CANT put on weight like a normal person could because it’ll unfortunately affect his career. The beauty world is just like that, irl too. Plus, this is something he wants for himself, even if he admits to hating the diets during his overblot, it’s still a part of who he is). Vil, himself, views rook’s behavior as a helpful thing, he appreciates Rook’s supernaturally keen eye! He might be offended but ultimately he would not have Rook as his vice-prez if he didn’t respect or admire Rook in some way.

I adore the way you draw them together!! The one where vil is like “how dare you! Just because he’s strange doesn’t mean he’s like that!” And rook is behind him with blood on his face, he’s so cute! I recently found another blog that is similar to yours that I also wanted to see if you knew bc they draw rook out the same way you do! @/fadiesismin is so cool and I think you’d love their artwork!!! First of all, thank you for enjoying our stuff and for your support! I am very happy that you like the way we portray RookVil. Their relationship is very interesting and honestly quite nuanced; we don’t usually gravitate towards ships that have this strong of a “they’ve been dating for a while” vibe, but these two are just too charming. Probably because despite them deeply understanding each other and sharing a lot of values and passions, they really aren’t a perfect couple, and we get to see it in moments like the vignette you’ve mentioned, or Rook’s lab wear vignette, or on multiple other occasions. Rook isn’t the perfect boyfriend, in fact, he is quite a menace sometimes without really meaning harm (still, he technically made Vil cry at least once); but there also isn’t another person that would get Vil as deeply as Rook does and support him as well as Rook does. What they have is special, but isn’t perfect at all.

As you already know, we also love talking about characters a lot, so I even though I am late with this reply, I am happy to have an opportunity to talk about these two and Rook specifically. So thank you for sending this ask and waiting!

I’ve seen this vignette being used as an example of Rook being gaslighting/manipulative before, and to be honest, I don’t really get this argument. I understand that the reasoning is usually that Rook sounds similar to a man that lies to his girlfriend about her being fat because he wants her to be even skinnier or just to be an asshole about it, but here is the thing: this isn’t what Rook is doing though. Gaslighter always has ulterior motive behind their manipulations, even if it’s just to mess with someone else’s head for fun or to control this person. But with Rook (both in this vignette and in general), what you see is what you get: the man is brutally honest, sometimes even too honest. Vil himself is very aware of that and has mentioned it multiple times.

It’s just like you said! Vil never lets anyone forget that his looks are important to him (both because of his own standards and because he is a model), so of course Rook would comment on something that he noticed. This is the foundation of their relationship: Rook gives Vil his feedback because Rook sees things that other people don’t. Does it mean that this feedback is always 100% necessary and Vil should change things according to how Rook critiques him? Of course not. Maybe sometimes it would be better for Vil to just take it easy and relax instead of perfecting every single thing, but this isn’t what Vil wants for himself: he doesn’t want to be pampered, he wants to be appreciated for his hard work. Rook enables Vil’s perfectionism, but don’t forget that Rook is that force in Vil’s life that doesn’t let him forget what he is doing all that for (I’ve talked about Rook being protective of Vil’s “beauty” = love for art here). Vil having a toned body is something that Rook enjoys, but this is mainly something that Vil wants himself; I kind of think that as long as Vil’s passionate and unapologetic about things that he does, Rook would find beauty in him no matter how he looks. Remember him at the end of ch6 after Vil’s grandpafication? Yeah exactly.

Alright, I digress. The point I am trying to make is that Rook is very direct with Vil, sometimes even too direct, and this is the opposite of gaslighting. Even when he suggests things “lightly”, he is still upfront about them: he doesn’t try to plant any ideas in Vil’s head.

Rook sounds and acts like a jerk sometimes, but he means well, and it’s not an excuse, just a fact. In Rook’s head, Vil always takes his direct remarks and observations very well, what’s so different this time? Even if you’ve been with someone for years, fuckups are unavoidable, especially for someone who has problems with tact.

To reiterate: could this scene be triggering or upsetting? Absolutely. Are there people who comment on other’s weight to make them insecure or make them doubt themselves? Absolutely. Is this what Rook does? Absolutely not. It just isn’t true to his character: he wouldn’t gain anything if Vil started doubting himself, in fact, he would have hated it. He doesn’t want Vil to be insecure or unsure, this is literally what he confronted him about at the end of Ch5. He also doesn’t need to do anything for Vil to trust him more than others: Vil already does. When he was saying that he knew better than anyone or anything else, he stated the truth, and this is what so fucked up about Rook: he really does know better.

It’s very important to remember that these characters have their own circumstances and their own writing, and we are fucking blessed to have a cast of characters this interesting and complex.

By the way, I am saying all of this as someone who wouldn’t mind Rook being a gaslighter and could see fanon scenarios where it could work, but those need to be very well-written not to ruin his character, because honesty is an integral part of Rook Hunt. For better or worse.

Also, I know you haven’t mentioned Jade, Anon, but since this entire discussion started with comparing the two, I wanted to note that Jade’s Dorm Uniform vignette exists. Vil literally looked at him man and decided not to trust him for one moment, even scolded Rook for even humouring the idea that Jade was telling the truth. And this is just one instance; we are constantly being reminded by everyone in cast about the fact that Jade is shady and we shouldn’t take seriously the majority of things that he says (pretty much verbatim to what Floyd said about him in the Playful Land event). Jade doesn’t care about honesty, he doesn’t care about lying either: all he cares about is what to say to make the others react in the most interesting way possible. He loves messing with people, and the world is his playground….

(I am also pretty sure that he comments on Azul’s diet; this has nothing to do with gaslighting either, just thought I’d mention that since we’re talking about this)
