“Jack, I swear to god.” You hiss, smacking your boyfriend away from your suitcase as he throws out the T-shirt you had nicely folded for the third time.

“What?” He yelps, stepping back to avoid your attack, putting his hands up in surrender.

“Seriously, J, take another step towards my bag, and I’m gonna lock you in the closet.” You fold the shirt again and stick it into the waiting suitcase.

You feel his burning stare on your back as you continue packing your things, both wishing desperately that you could delay the inevitable but knowing that no matter how much you hate it, your college life has to continue, and you have to leave.

You hear him softly sigh behind you, and you don’t have the heart to turn around, knowing his face will hold that pouty look that will make you miss your flight. Instead, you stay silent, packing your shirts and moving onto your pants.

After a minute or two in silence, you hear Jack shuffle behind you, moving toward his closet and rustling around for a few seconds before emerging back into the bedroom.

“Do you want to trade in?” He asks, holding out a couple of clothing items to you.

A small smile plays on your lips as you grab the new clothes and hand him back a few of his other clothes that had kept you comfortable for the month you were apart. It’s just a few things, which may be really cliche, but every time you’re together, you rotate them out because he knows it makes you feel better when you’re apart.

You stuff the remaining clothes into your already full suitcase and close it, but not before you feel a pair of arms snake around your waist, interrupting your motion.

“I think I got it,” Jack says, scanning over your suitcase. “We get rid of the clothes, and with enough strategy, I think I could fit myself in here.”

Before he even finishes, laughter bursts from your lips. “Yeah, I’m sure TSA would love that.”

You turn to face him in his arms, and even though the idea is ridiculous, you wouldn’t put it past him to try to attempt it.

“J, it’s only for a month and a half; we’ve done worse.”

He shakes his head, “Why don’t you just cancel your flight? Stay a few more days.”

His offer is tempting, but you know that if you don’t leave today, you’ll never escape his hold.

“As much as I’d love that, some of us have school.” You tease, pushing your fingers through his hair, messing it up.

He rolls his eyes to the ceiling and pulls you further into his body.

“I hate that my girlfriend is so studious. Why did I get the one who resists my offer of skip days?”

You shove him away from you as he laughs, “You and I both know I have had too many skip days because of you. Besides, the sooner I go to school, the sooner I graduate.”

He smirks at your graduation statement and leans toward you. “And then?”

This time you smirk. “And then, I can find a really awesome boyfriend who doesn’t distract me from a flight that is supposed to leave in an hour.”

His face falls for not even a second before tackling you onto the bed and tickling your sides.

“What was that? Huh? Another boyfriend?” He says in between breaths while you’re shrieking with laughter, trying to push him off you.

After a minute of torture, he gives up and lays his entire weight on you, and you immediately relent and accept his love. He is always incredibly clingy during these times, but you’ll take all of it. So, you begin to rub his back and relish the feeling of being here with him, savoring the touch you’re about to go without for over a month.

“What am I gonna do without you?” Jack whispers after a minute, “I seriously don’t think I can do it.”

You think momentarily before you lift his face out of your neck, forcing him to look at you.

“Forty-five days, J, and then it’s summer. Then, you’ll be sick of me.”

He rolls his eyes and drops his head back down, mumbling, “I’m never sick of you,” into your neck.

“I know, but distance makes the heart grow fonder.” You try to joke.

He responds by snorting, lifting himself off of you, and pulling you up with him.

“How about this-“

“Jack, I can’t sta-“

“Shhhh (Y/N), just hear me out.”

You give him a pointed look and fold your arms before you, waiting for him to continue.

“We cancel your flight, you stay forever, and I provide for us.”

After about thirty more attempts to get you to stay, which include fake tears, Jack trying to get your flight canceled, your bags are packed in his Range Rover, and you're flying down the highway toward the airport. Neither of you speaks; instead, listen to your shared playlist and watch the city of New Jersey fly by.

As you turn onto the street that leads to the airport, you take a deep breath and try to steady your heavy heart as Jack throws the car in park and hops out.

You’re quick to follow as he pulls your bags out and sets them down in front of you, not daring to look into your eyes. It isn’t until you softly whisper his name that he finally looks at you.

“Forty-five days, J.” You pull him toward you, quickly kissing his cheek.

“I know; I’m already counting down.” He finally lets a small smile play on his lips.

You glance at your watch and see that time, quite literally, is running out, so you pull him back in one more time, connecting your lips.

You stay there for a second, and you feel him chase after your lips when you begin to pull away, and he grips your waist hard, not letting you move an inch.

“Jack, you gotta let me go.”

He does, nodding sadly and unwillingly kissing you once more for a goodbye. He watches as you quickly do a little bag check and make sure you have everything. Once you’re confident, you sling your bag over your head and flash him one last smile, turning toward the door and walking through it.

He watches as you walk through the door and away from him; his heart is taken with you. You turn one last time, waving and blowing a kiss in his direction. He catches it, puts it in his pocket, and gives you one last smile.

He watches until you disappear from sight, following your movements and wishing ever so slightly that your lives are different. He wishes you didn’t have school, he wishes he didn’t have hockey, and he wishes above else that you could be together. He shakes his head as if to shake away the thoughts and knows he’s taking up a busy parking space.

He is soon back in his car, driving home, and the world seems slightly less bright than before. It’s not long before he is home, and he sees that his apartment is way too empty for his liking. So he calls his teammates, and soon enough, he getting ready to meet them for dinner, anything to distract himself that you’re gone.

He begins to get ready, changing into a sweatshirt that you’d traded in, one of his favorites that now smells like you, and as if on cue, his phone buzzes with a text from you.

Try not to miss me too much, loser. I love you.

He smiles at the message, sends a snarky response back, and puts a very special timer on his phone. Forty-five days until he sees you again, and he’s counting down every second.

i have to admit this show charmed me. its not the best thing ive ever seen but its nice. comfy. yknow? i haven't finished it but it's enjoyable. can't rank it higher until i finish it

8. sabikui bisco (2022)

if it werent for the positively nonsensical jump in the middle of the show and the way theres just like. a lot of gaps? it’d rank higher. it’s a very cool premise for a show and i like the bisco/milo dynamic, and [SISTER] is fun as hell. it didnt wow me though overall, and while i enjoyed it i was hoping for more.

7. trigun stampede (2023)

im sorry trigun stans i simply didnt love it. i see the appeal i really do but it just didnt hook me. i really liked the animation and the storyline. im intrigued by whatever the fuck is going on with those plants and yall have said theres a tallgirl in the next season? so i’ll keep watching. i just didnt love it

6. that time i got reincarnated as a slime (2019-2021)

in contrast to #7, i can see why this show is weak HOWEVER i just enjoyed it. i like it. huge fan of how much gender the protag has. i love how they get new powers. i enjoy that it can be interpreted as an extremely bisexual show. it was well paced and the slime diaries OVA was a great addition. a lot of the characters really stuck with me too and its like. idk. one of my favourite isekais i guess

5. buddy daddies (2023)

this should rank higher. its so fun. its SO fun. its silly and it doesnt take itself seriously. i laughed in every episode. the dynamic between the guys is great. the dynamics between them and the kid is great. just a really solid show if you can stand the queerbaiting. i dont even care

4. bocchi the rock! (2022)

the bocchi side of tumblr is right this show rules. i like how real bocchi’s social anxiety feels (literally how it felt when i had it). the characters are entertaining, the show’s well done, they even have solid music (which band-based shows dont always do right!). its really funny and its really earnest and its a joy to watch

3. demon slayer: swordsmith village arc (2023)

i included the entertainment district arc in last year’s list so this arc makes the cut. im always late getting around to watch the new stuff and i dont want to read the manga but god DAMN does this show hit different. incredible fight scenes. i loved everything they did for the hashira backstories. i love whatever the fuck is up with genya. it even gave me some akaza to sustain me for the next year or whatever. ik this show gets overhyped but its normal hyped. to me.

2. frieren: beyond journey's end (2023)

oughhh frieren… ive only known this show for a few months but it means to much to me… i dont even wanna talk about it because its so good i just wanna watch it again. go watch frieren if you havent already its anime of the decade. to me

1. gundam: the witch from mercury (2022-2023)

ive never seen a gundam before but i will be watched them after this! what can be said about it that hasnt already been said on this site. the romance storyline is impeccable, the fights are awesome, the moral questions it posed were excellently covered. by the end of the first episode i was speechless. by the end of the last episode i'd cried like 4 times over the course of the show. this thing made me cry to happy birthday. what the fuck

I was wondering what is your take on foreign whump? I can only speak English fluently unfortunately. I see so many lovely sets, a lot from Turkish shows especially but for some reason I just don't get feels in the same way from watching them, especially when there's no subtitles and I can't fully understand what's going on. But even with subtitles, reading that somebody is saying for example, "I can't breathe,"  just doesn't hit the same way as hearing them saying it and understanding it, if that makes sense? Very annoying.

I have a love hate relationship with it lol. I loooove seeing it on my dash because damn a lot of other countries know how do do whump way better than where I live and I enjoy it greatly. But I don't speak the languages and there's no subtitles!!! So I never have context for all the amazing whump! And that's if I can find videos of it at all! Those Turkish shows especially look amazing! And fell in love with Diogo Morgado thanks to seeing some whumpy gifsets of him in a Portuguese show. Germany, Mexico, Korea, and Russia appear to have some damn fine whump as well. And I wouldn't know about any of it if it wasn't for the amazing people in this community making gifsets and videos of it all. God bless all the whump gifmakers who share the non English whump out there for us all to enjoy. You guys are doing the lords work with that. I just wish I could understand what was happening lol XD

1. favourite giffing/editing style(s)?

oooh it's probably gotta be what we called "fx" back in the day, but other editors coming from vine referred to it as "candy" (even if a lot of it was badass!). i think it's informed my composition and what i find aesthetically pleasing, esp when it comes to movement/animation? did this part years ago (💀) but it'd be an example of what im talking about, with the masked footage, the animated stills, the bg moving and whatnot! at least, i feel like i've incorporated a lot of what i absorbed during my amv days into my gifsets lol

backgrounds in general, i think! i'm always peppering in shapes and lines but i have to go out of my way to think about various related imagery i could use as bg fodder and it always feels like i'm doing smth wrong?? backgrounds come soo easily to other ppl too--there was a guy i knew back in high school who'd literally only picked up sony vegas like a few months before but already had the most gorgeous compositions 😭 i think my problem is that i'm not like, Naturally Talented at anything i like to do, so i always fall short some way or another. that's art babey!

seeing the tags on some of my gifsets (and talking to gifmaker friends) made me realize we apparently STILL need to have this conversation so. hi.

the way some of you people infantilize and grossly sexualize easian men in media is extremely racist and gross and im going to start hunting you for sport if you dont think about it and stop. im talking mdzs. im talking tyk. im talking basically any asian media bc without even looking im sure this issue is there in whatever show it is.

obviously theres nothing wrong or fetishistic about finding asian people attractive, but the specific way ive seen people talk on here is so uncomfortable and toeing that line so much that i really think you ought to take a minute and think about how youre interacting w these characters/actors. im not trying to be puritanical but trust me when i say content creators (especially asian content creators when its about asian media!!!!) do NOT wanna have to read your excessively sexual tags on their works, esp considering the gifsets ive made that have the most of that talk are usually just. a character existing. i dont know how else to describe it but its just a guy in a scene and you people think its appropriate to project your horniness onto them. we also 100000000000% dont want to see you refer to a grown man with babying language, its gross its uncomfortable and it feeds into a well-known and harmful trend, and i swear to god if i see one more tag calling a character a baby AND sexualizing them in the same fucking breath im going to snap and steal your fucking wifi modem.

On my eleventy millionth rewatch of The Old Guard I noticed how cleverly they've subverted the mentor & rookie/newbie relationship not just between Andy and Nile but also between Nile and the rest of the team.

The tone of the relationship between Andy and Nile is familiar in as much as we have a weary, jaded mentor who wants to check out of the world but ends up taking on a new young team member. On the other hand, we have a young team member who is completely bewildered by the rapid changes taking place around her and how her life has, essentially, flipped on its head.

But then The Old Guard does something very strange. Instead of keeping to the well established track it makes a sharp left and wanders into the unknown.

Firstly, the mentor-mentee relationship is between two women. Not a crusty old dude and a smart aleck young dude but two women. The women are uncommon when we think about what we see on popular mainstream tv. The mentor is almost 4000(?) years old. She is a leader, a warrior, an immortal. At some point she may have even been worshipped as a god! The mentee is a young black woman who serves in the armed forces. She doesn't have a terrible backstory peppered with misery, which would be one take on this kind of story. She comes from a loving family. She has friends. She's very good at her job. She is a woman of faith. While Andromache may resent that fact that she has responsibility towards Nile, she doesn't ignore it. She does not resent Nile for being an immortal. She is weary of humanity and loss and her profound sense of responsibility. So already we know that this isn't going to be a combative relationship despite the learning curve.

Second, instead of Nile coming into a cohesive team that treats her as an outsider upon first meeting her, we see how Joe, Booker and Nicky make room for her. They don't push. They are kind. They offer information about themselves without picking at her recent losses. In short, Nile gets to choose the shape of the space she's going to occupy and they will follow her lead.

Third, Nile gets to choose. She chooses whether to fight Merrick or not. She chooses whether she wants to stay with the team or not. She chooses whether this is the kind of life she wants or not. This is unheard of!

At no point does Andy force her choose to this life, this team or this fight. Andy shares her experience about how the world changes once you become immortal. The life you lived is no longer available to you. And to hold on to what was is a source of constant pain (yes, Booker, I am 👀). But even then, even then, we see Nile has her phone back at the end of the move. So the choice is always in her hands.

In another version there would be no choice. There would be yelled ultimatums and emotional blackmail/manipulation. Each hurt and vulnerability would be fair game as long as the newbie comes through. And what's worse is that even when the newbie breaks away they would rebound back because of some forced realisation that this life, this team, and this fight are the only choice. The result is capitulation disguised as choice.

Fourth, in a typical action flick, the newbie is at the bottom of the totem pole. And if you're a woman then you and the totem pole aren't even in the same neighborhood (👀👀 Marvel and DC). As the newbie you're on shit duty until you scrounge up enough respect from the team that they give you a seat at the table. Not so here. They literally make room around the table for her.

During the fight at Merrick after realising that Andy is mortal, Nile, the newbie, is her shield. She takes point and the others follow her lead. There is no jockeying for position.

Nile knows what she's doing. Out of all of them she was a mortal most recently. She was a marine most recently. She was trained to lead in a warzone most recently so of course she's going to take the lead.

Finally, (and there is so much more to say...), and this is where the movie circles back to the idea of offering space and making it your own, when deciding what to do about Booker, Nile has a seat at the table. She offers a pov which is heard. She claims her space supported by the team.

Andy acknowledges that there is purpose to life. There is more to learn and she has the will yet to live. Nile is integral to that realisation.

I just want to say how much I appreciate you and love your blog and your lewis/max content!! It really saddened me to see today one of the other prominent 4433 content creators has revoked their support of max after Monza and has decided not to engage in the ship anymore. I respect their decision but it did get me feeling very down. I was so sad when Frenkie left and now another source of lewis/max content is gone. I always want people to do what’s best for their own wellness and I wish everyone all the best. It just saddens me to see some of the 4433 community dropping like flies because of the toxicity between a big chunk of the Max fans and Lewis fans on here. I hope you are doing well and are happy and can stick around but even if you don’t I just wanted to say how much happiness you have brought me this season! ok ok i'm done gifmaking for now, which means it's debrief time! this fht felt very chaotic in comparison to others but frankly i think it's just a combination of the pandemic and the fact that i've forgotten the details of the other tournaments jgkfkgddf

obviously ryoyu is a legend and more than deserved the tournament win (i swear to god karl will get it one day!!!!!! ONE DAY!!!!!) - it's kind of a shame that he couldn't become the first double grand slam winner, but also who can begrudge dani huber his first win!!!

i'm slightly depressed about the viability of my "karl geiger for 21/22 overall winner" agenda now, although he's only something like 56 points behind; also, i wish that halvor had been a bit more consistent in the first part of the season so that we could have a proper three way battle for the overall!

lovro was absolutely awesome and i'm so sad about his fall ruining his chances of a fht podium! also, michi and manu have randomly started fucking killing it (i... didn't even notice that manu was in the world cup until bischofshofen dkfgjdfkg) and i hope that michi gets to keep a spot in the world cup team for now.

i'm beginning to get properly stressed out about olympic team selections now - there's a lot of tough choices to be made for loads of the teams (germany and austria in particular have too many strong jumpers), and then even once they've picked five to take, they'll have to narrow it down to four for the competitions and i just know that i'm going to be distressed no matter who does or doesn't make the cut. (also, do you remember the drama on tumblr when stephan and markus were being considered for the last place in the german team for the individual competitions in pyeongchang jkfjgkdfg everyone wanted markus to DIE)

also, holy shit, i can't believe we have to do it all again this weekend! i'm fucking exhausted, so i can't imagine how the jumpers are feeling (although maybe they want the extra competition practice before the olympics?). i'm kind of glad that the sapporo competitions were cancelled - obviously it sucks for people in japan that they won't get that competition, but i feel like the last thing all the athletes (not to mention technical staff!) need is to fly all the way out to asia for a weekend, come back to compete for two more weekends, and then head out to beijing.

(the secret other reason i need a break is that every morning for the past 10 days my dad has asked me what my plans for the day are and i have been forced to mumble "uhhh there's ski jumping on" while he laughs at me and i CAN'T TELL HIM THERE'S EVEN MORE ON THIS WEEKEND)

the decision is gonna be so stressful but i trust horngacher (more than i trusted schuster at that point) to chose the right 5 guys (pain) and then 4 for the team (more pain) and i also keep reminding myself that its JUST the olymoic games that only happen every FOUR YEARS (i really wanted to write a reasonable argument why i should not worry who goes but i can't find it) (also wouldnt it be iconic to go to your 4th olympic games at age 26???)

AND YES i remember that how could i forget??? i was checking the training results and every time sephan jumped good but schuster still didn't chose him for the competition my heart broke a little and at the team comp i was this close to going there myself and hiding markus somewhere just so he would get ONE chance (poor fannis was at the olympic games too and he did not compete once and i did not want that happening to stephan)

we need to stop with competitions during the week, i can't get anything done because my self restraint is not THAT good to miss 4hills which makes me spend 3 hours watching these guys jump - unhealthy

by the way the only day i could watch it without feeling guilty bc i was sick in bed it was cancelled!!
