ok i wanna talk about tmnt 2007 and the way i think this is the best version of a leo and raph conflict, and also leo as a character

for context i've been talking about tmnt things kinda chronologically, so i'm gonna mention an unconditional understanding in 03 i bring that up in a previous post about that show and the family dynamics in it here if u want context for what i mean

i think this movie can really be appreciated for the place it has between adaptations, and the way character-wise everyone is more or less the same as they've always been but with a more interpersonal relationship as the focus. the main villain of this movie doesn't really matter, the conflict, the fights, that's not where the strength is (although, it is reflected in the conflict and ill get into that)

so tmnt 07 is one movie that kind of combines the 90s movies, 03, and mirage all in one place, and tonally is is similar to the show that will come after it, 12. if the 90s movies give us conflict between leo and raph, and 03 gives us the unconditional understanding between the two, 07 takes these two aspects and creates a story out of it. (debate in your own mind if this movie is a literal sequel to the 90s ones or not, its not that important)

the set up of this movie is we are in a post killing the shredder world. leo has been told by splinter to go get training elsewhere, there isn't much context for what happened to cause this, but i would bet its a similar cause to 03, where he had ptsd and lashed out at his father to which splinter sends him to his grandfather to get better advice than he thinks he can give him. the difference here is there is no grandfather hes sent to, he's sent on a journey of self discovery around the world to learn about it and himself.

the thing about leo as a character, and this goes for all leos, he's has a very black and white way of thinking. leo thinks he's been sent away because he's failing his family, that he's not a good enough leader. so he stays away for longer because he doesn't feel good enough. he finds a place where he can help and he does that. leo always needs a bad guy to fight, or else he's fighting his own demons. so he stays there for a long time. finding a place he can help quietly, never letting anyone see him, and becoming a legend to the locals because no one knows what's really going down.

april manages to track him down and tell him about whats going on with his brothers, how they're holding up without him and without being a team, and i think thats a good reminder for him that they miss him. he doesn't tell april but he finds a way home only after hearing about this. when he arrives and speaks to splinter, he says "i was so caught up in my own world i forgot about everyone else, i'm sorry i failed" he still doesn't feel like he's done anything of worth.

i'm gonna jump in here and say, you know how we all love rise raph? cuz hes the big brother and some traits that come from that are like being overprotective and taking on everyone else's problems and trying to handle emotions alone? well that's a trait thats usually leo's. but the difference with leo is sometimes that concept doesn't make you as likeable. sometimes it means you come off like a nagging mother hen who thinks they know best but in an arrogant way. sometimes it makes you mirror being a parent when no one asked you to be. leo's less of a passionate character than raph, hes more analytical and full of himself. he takes splinters lessons more seriously, and hes always trying to do whats best for everyone so they don't have to worry. this is something evident with 03 and 12, but its so specifically noticeable here because these traits make up the main conflict. i just want to bring that up so we start seeing leo as no different than some of our other favourite iterations.

splinter responds to his apology by saying "you owe me no apology, but perhaps you should talk to raphael, your absence has been particularly difficult for him, though he'll never admit it" but when leo greets him raph is brushing him off.

on raph's end, this is him being angry that leo left, and angry that hes back and everyone wants to pretend that he wasn't gone at all. as if the time he was gone didn't happen. hes lashing out because he too cant handle talking about these emotions. and hes lashing out by becoming a vigilante in his own right.

i see a lot of people misunderstand what raph is doing here, that "this is what the turtles always do" or "this is the same as what leo was doing how could he be mad" when that is not true. that's what casey does. its true that both leo and raph have been fighting bad guys on their own (as a way of dealing with their issues) but raphael has made himself a costume to disguise himself which means hes prepared to be seen. hes riding a motorcycle around, which is loud. this isn't stealthy, this is aggressive. his vigilante name is in the news. the turtles are ninjas, they silently help where they can and fade into the night and, very specifically, they work as a team. these turtles live in a dangerous world, what if something happened to him while no one else was around? they would never know because he never told anyone.

so raph is lashing out, and leo doesn't have a good way of dealing with it. he tries to slide back into being leader, doing what splinter says but he forgets how his brothers are, and with raph egging them on they get into fights they shouldn't. which leo specifically gets in trouble for, as the oldest brother, and as their leader. leo tries to be this better leader hes supposed to have learned to be, but it doesn't work and raph ends up back out there in his vigilante get up. leo tracks down said vigilante, and in his peak "leo knows best" moment, lectures him, not knowing its his brother. there's a scuffle, and the mask comes off. let me point out that casey knew this vigilante was raph but his own brother didn't, because leo has been gone that long.

so lets get into what this fight is really about. on the surface, its "wow you've been going out at night alone putting yourself in dangerous situations with no backup" and "so what you're just mad that i can do it without you" which leo would be right about. and this is the analytical leo, he really thinks that's all that's going on here. what hes missing is that raphael has missed him as a brother, and hes hurt that leonardo left and just came back no big deal. that he wants everything to be normal. raphael is always a character with big emotions and the only outlet he knows to express them is violence.

leo, who as we've established, went away to learn to be better for his family is angry that raph doesn't see that. he's mad raph doesn't appreciate the effort he went to, and he thinks he's just angry because he's not in charge. each brother sees the other as being arrogant.

this leads them to the big fight. no one can disagree that this is the best part of the movie (seriously watch the movie for this scene if you haven't seen it before) , but the real best part of it is that raphael wins. raph proves hes just as capable of a fighter as his brother, if not more-so. he uses those sais as they're supposed to be used, catching leo's swords and in a fit of rage he fucking breaks them, leaving leo defenceless and completely vulnerable to attack. you'd think he'd be smug that leo lost but he pauses, going through a lot of emotions in a moment, questioning what he's doing, why hes doing it. and leo finally looks his brother in the eye and sees raph going through something he didn't before, realizing raph hasn't been angry that he's back, but that he's angry that he ever left. they don't have a conversation, because raph cant handle all these emotions and he runs away, crying as he does. leo just watches him, taking it all in and realizing the error of his ways.

hearing leo scream turns raph around, but he's too late to help him, and this is where raph regrets his own actions because right then, leo is also proven right in his argument. because he gets kidnapped. if leo hadn't chased raph down, there is a very good chance that would have been raph being kidnapped. with no backup, with no one knowing what happened to him. that's why its important that the turtles are a team.

raph goes home full of guilt, and there's a good moment of showing how he cannot open up emotionally here, because he grunts, punches the wall, knocks over some weights and forces splinter to ask him what happened, because that's how raphael is. he laments to his father that he finally understands why leo is the better son, proving that to raph none of this was about their team, but about their family. conflating the two ideas in his head. splinter gives him a talk that mirrors what he said to leo when he returned earlier in the movie, encouraging him that he is a good son and brother. this shows that these brothers have very similar insecurities about their value to their family.

the rest of the movie plays out as you expect, they go save leo, they stop the bad guy, they reconcile and behave as the team they're supposed to be. but i just want to point out that the villains plot is mirrored in leo and raph's conflict. the 'villain' here is a brother who has been cursed to be immortal without his own siblings. for 3000 years he lived to regret his actions and decided to undo his curse, but he used the cursed stone versions of his siblings to do so. no communication, just thinking he knew better (which maybe he did) and lying about it. that caused them to lie to him right back, and try to overthrow him and destroy the world. this is just one family whose inner turmoil could have destroyed the world. you might say, oh that's not a very interesting turtles villain, but its not supposed to be. its not the focus.

this movie is all about the complicated relationship between a family, and i see so many people talk about it by trying to ask who's right and who's wrong. that's not how it works. life is more complicated than that, people are more complicated than that. its boring to look at this movie and just say "leo is wrong and raph is right" because that's not even how the characters see it. this movie is about leo and raph being mirrors of each other in their arrogance, in their insecurities, and in their stubborn pig-headed refusal to let the other know how they feel. splinter says as much at the start of the movie. this whole movie shows that without each other, they need to be fighting something so they don't get swept up by their own emotions, which they are both bad at processing. they are SUCH brothers. they are so similar emotionally, yet they have such a hard time understanding each other.

personally 07 leo is my favourite leo for his complexity, his flaws his strength, his growth. its sad we never got those sequel movies to get into the other brothers heads as much as we got into leo and raphs heads.

also nolan north and james arnold taylor gave the best vocal performances in this movie and they deserve all the credit for it.

hei. i enjoy your blogs, i hope you could clear something up for me., i just saw someone claim to be "zionist as in i believe jewish people have the right to self determination in their indigenous homeland",, ive actually seen the claim that jewish ppl are indigenous to israel and are somehow denied that identity as a form of anti semitism and erasure of jewish experience multiple times.. and it always confused me so much cuz like israel was set up as this nationalist project in 1948, before the region was a mess mostly under the rule of the ottomans, but the palestinian culture and ppl were always there. how can someone be indigenous to a region if they werent there before? is there any truth to the claim or is it just co-opting leftist language again?

its so evil how the state of israel could jist completely legitimize itself by co-opting jewish culture and pretending like being in support of it is a fundamental part of jewishness :(

I can try, but I'm not sure how good I'll be at explaining this. Maybe someone else can add to this. If I repeat things I said before, I apologize.

That is a definition of zionism used by many zionists who lean politically to the left. I don't subscribe to these softer definitions of zionism because saying it's just "the right to Jewish self determination in our ancestral homeland" ignores that in practice over the last century the next words are "to the exclusion of others." I define zionism through its practical outcome - which is what we did to Palestinians.

Jewish people originate here. Our religious laws and practices (many of which are regularly disregarded by Israel and by settlers when they do things like destroying olive trees and water sources) are tied to this specific land. There are holidays and religious rituals that are either fundamentally changed or can't be practiced at all if we're anywhere else in the world. Culturally most branches of Judaism maintained this connection throughout our history. And we didn't leave willingly. An empire expelled us from the place that was our land. When the point of indigeniety comes up, this is why. You'll see arguments like - when does indigeniety expire? How many generations until you no longer have a claim to the ancestral homeland you were driven away from?

So this is the cultural context for Judaism. This is something that I also can't really ignore. I can't pretend I don't care about this land and the connection we always had to it.

That said, I still see this as using leftist terminology inappropriately.

To talk about Israel, a lot of us talk about colonialism, and specifically settler colonialism. I lived in the West Bank settlements so to me this really resonates. The argument I get at that point is that an indigenous group can't colonize their own land.

And this is why I'm saying it's a misuse of terminology. We're using that label to absolve ourselves. As if the word "indigenous" is a stamp of approval we get to apply to our actions while we repeat the violence of colonizing forces in history.

Ethnic cleansing, occupation, building settlements - and now also genocide. The tools we use resonate with indigenous people all over the world, because they suffered through similar kinds of oppression. Always with differences and different contexts, these things are never 1:1, but there's a reason indigenous groups around the world are in solidarity with Palestinians. I shared about a video from a Korean person talking about how colonialism by Japan broke the thread of their history - old buildings that had to be rebuilt instead of being preserved, historical cultural practices and art forms being lost or changed due to the loss of artisans. These are things Israel is doing now.

So to me, this is using the word "landback" and "liberation" for a violent takeover of land from an indigenous group. You mentioned the Ottomans - Palestine has been conquered over and over throughout history. Those regimes, sure, fighting them off can be liberatory, if the intent isn't to become the conquerors in their place. But there's nothing to liberate from Palestinians, because they're not colonizing anything. They belong in this land.

I'm really angry that so many of us try to deny the Palestinians their own connection. They have roots here, a long and rich history shaped by life in the land. While we destroy so much and say our claim is so strong we get to kill or drive them away for it.

saw someone say "dickbabs is bad cuz they're written as a stereotype of smart nerd/dumb jock which is a disservice to their characters" and its so weird cuz i cant think of any comics where they're written that way?? like the best comics of them are the ones where they're working on cases together combining both of their strengths and resources to solve crime and theres plenty of those.

also i've noticed so many dickbabs antis have a problem with barbara's intelligence in general which is odd to me. esp when dick himself is never intimidated nor threatoned by it and its sad. its like ppl claim to like girlboss/malewife couples but then when there's actually a couple that displays that dynamic in a way that matters and isnt just based on appearance or physical traits its too much and they back out!

I just wish certain Dickbabs antis would stop putting their "why this other pairing is so much better than DickBabs" stuff in the #dickbabs tag, like you are not helping me think better of your competing ship with that kind of behavior, it just comes off as so desperate to be mad that other people like something you wish they wouldn't like. Otherwise, I don't really wander into spaces that aren't into the things I'm into, because I'd much rather spend my time yelling about why I DO love the thing I love, so in that vein, LET ME TELL YOU WHY I LOVE DICKBABS SO MUCH. (To be clear, it's perfectly fine not to like the ship or like it in a different way, we'll still get along fine! It's not the sum total of EITHER character's role in the comics, there's plenty to talk about them without getting into this relationship! I'm just not here for those who need to go out of their way to shove it in my face that they don't like the ship, but disliking it and staying in your lane--as many, many lovely people do! the majority I would even say!--is of course fine.) (To further clarify, I don't know the context of the original post mentioned here, it's not part of anything I'm speaking of, this is purely about trying to shove it in others' faces, not about how other people interpret ships differently from me while staying in their own lanes. So I'm probably not speaking about the original post whatsoever here!) For me, I think the heart of their bigger relationship is built on their mutual support for each other, that they each have established themselves individually and have their own books and their own time in the spotlight, but they keep gravitating towards each other because they're better and stronger and more fun together. That each of them gladly takes their turn being the support for the other, because that's what relationships do! And they do it with such love, like-- I love them because they've known each other so long that they really get each other, they get that the other isn't perfect, and they've made the choice to be with that person even when their issues have thorns. Like, I loved everything about their conversation in Nightwing #96:

That is exactly what he needed to hear--she wasn't being cruel or dismissive of his issues, she wasn't even really being mean about the issues he picked up from Bruce, because she's right, Bruce does have some really shit traits that he passed on to his eldest. She's not saying that either he or Bruce are bad for it, she's just accepting that it's part of the man she loves and she'll cut through it with him because he's worth any effort it would take to be with him. I love that she laughs right in his face about breaking up, because that's not cruel or dismissive either, it's just Dick being ridiculous and sometimes it's part of his charm and they've always teased each other--the thing is, it's also always followed up with warmth and care, she asks him point blank, are you happy with me? Because you are allowed to be happy. I'm allowed to be happy and I'm happy with you, you're worth dying for, let's do this together. Or I love their earlier dynamic in the Batgirl comic as well, just after Bruce and Selina's failed marriage (this is before they got back together, like in the above):

I love SO MUCH that Babs isn't sure that she necessarily wants a marriage any time soon, she doesn't trust yet that it could last, but what she does want is someone who would be there if she needed them, that at this point in time she feels like moments are all any of them are allowed to have, so what she wants is someone who will always answer when she calls. At this point, she's afraid to commit because she doesn't feel like they get that kind of thing, she's afraid of her own feelings, that really gets hammered in during the Death Knight storyline where they're fighting against the end of the world, the collapsing of the multiverse, and Bruce is tired of their bickering, so he tells them to just "skip to the end", which is basically, Dick wants to symbolically marry her, but she's afraid because she doesn't want her feelings for him to get in her way, she's terrified of losing him again:

But he's there for her, he says that it's just for tonight, he can put it aside when they need to, and later he'll win her back. This is who Dick and Babs are to me--they dance around each other because their feelings are so intense and sometimes it feels like they're on different pages (Dick's a romantic who wants to get married someday and knows it, she isn't sure she wants marriage but something less defined), but then you dig into it a bit and realize they are on the same page, it's just that their costumed lives, the traumas they've both lived through, make them scared of that level of intensity. And that's why Babs being the one to say, once they're together, no, we're happy together, we're allowed to be happy together, is so important. It's why she refuses to not come along with when Dick is going to the founding of the Alfred Pennyworth Foundation and doesn't take his shit about trying to keep her safe in Nightwing #88.

Because they take turns supporting each other, they take turns being the one to say I love you so much that I would fight the world for you, that they make each other stronger and shore each other up. Even before they got back together, they supported each other and were always there to listen, to joke around to lighten the mood, to just be a friendly ear without expectations of anything else:

Ultimately, I love them because sometimes she goes to him. Sometimes he goes to her. Sometimes she cuts through his bullshit with love. Sometimes he cuts through her bullshit with love. They're always there for each other, even when they're not together. They have a blast flirting with each other. They're both aware of the other being a hot mess sometimes, but they know that's part of the person they love and deal with it. They're partners.

He’ll use it occasionally if the situation calls for it but he always uses it right—and never overuses it when unnecessary

as for your hair he’s more likely to buy you the products than he is to actually help you wash your hair

just cuz he knows you know what your doing

plus you can do it yourself, your not his child 😂

besides after mitsuki finds out he’s getting some of it for you he gets extra from her

(partially bc she made him take it and partially because he wanted you to have some as a gift)

your food (let’s say you can whip up some delicious food) is pretty good to him!

he easily prefers cooking with you over any other class 1a student

simply because he tolerates (loves you) way more than any of them

cooking with him is pretty fun since your good and you don’t get yelled at!

you have a good nose for seasoning as well~

your features are something he admires often

if you sit in front and diagonal to him it’ll be easier for him to not get caught

but he won’t deliberately turn around to stare if not, obv 🤡

he likes how distinct they are, gives him a lot to observe

i don’t know he just really likes looking at you (in a non creepy, romantic, way) 👍

especially when you look so peaceful while sleeping <3

your culture/dancing is something interesting for him to learn

And whether you know it or not yes he likes to learn (nerd 🤓☝️)

he leans more towards your culture tho

and there’s nothing you can do to get him to dance..

Loo Loo Land Vs Seeing Stars

I previously mentioned before how Seeing Stars is VERY similar to Loo Loo Land in terms of its plot; it almost feels like Viv just wanted to do Loo Loo Land again because of how loved that episode was. The thing is though, Seeing Stars ends up being a complete rehash of Loo Loo Land without understanding what actually made that episode work in the first place.

I already talked about why Seeing Stars's themes and messages fundamentally don't work so I won't go too in-depth here but it's still important to talk about here; Seeing Stars tries to paint Stolas as a father who while heavily flawed and makes mistakes, does love his daughter and is trying his best to take care of her. Loona even says that Octavia should cut him some slack because he's at least trying. I already talked about in detail why this does not work but I think it bares repeating for my point; Seeing Stars wants us to see Stolas as a good dad who while flawed is trying to take care of his daughter, but context from not only the rest of the show but the episode itself contradict that.

Stolas is never shown to be a flawed but good dad in previous episodes, yes he may love his daughter but he's still a shit parent who pays more attention to Blitz than her, and he even focuses more on arguing with Stella than spending time with Octavia, neglecting his own daughter and breaking his promise he made to her.

But the episode ignores all of that in favor once again coddling Stolas pretending he's a good dad when he's not, and even says that Octavia should just cut Stolas some slack cuz he's trying, which, again, doesn't work because Stolas is an objectively terrible parent.

What I find very funny about this is that Loo Loo Land, the episode that Seeing Stars is directly copying portrays Stolas as the exact opposite; the episode doesn't try to pretend that Stolas is a good dad here, it actually admits that he was a pretty terrible one. Unlike Seeing Stars, Loo Loo Land actually has Stolas realize his mistake and that he was hurting his daughter, because he neglected her in favor of an Imp instead, and he decides to take her to a place she actually wants to go called "Stylish Occult", most likely to spend some more time with her.

Stolas actually realizes that his lust for Blitz is hurting his daughter Octavia because she thinks that he'll leave her. The episode actually makes him realize that his daughter isn't happy and decides to fix his mistake. No coddling, no trying to woobify Stolas and absolve him of his mistakes, the episode just says "Stolas fucked up" and has him make things right. I honestly wish we could go back to Season 1, where Stolas wasn't absolved of his mistakes and was actually called about for them by the narrative, I want him to actually grow as a person for once and go through character development, but Season 2 really seems like it doesn't want to do that for some reason, and it's sad to see such good character potential get wasted like this.

I've run into a problem...

06 sucks!

Like we knew that, but writing wise, 06 is such a mess, and I don't- I don't know what to do about it, I have fanfic ideas that take place in 06! And it's such a mess that I feel like it'll tank the quality of my fanfic just from its garbage-ness!

And you might be thinking, oh, but 06 isn't that bad, you said yourself, it's one of your favorite games of all time, and other people deal with it just fine so–

No, you don't get it, it is that bad. And you can tell because almost nothing from that game made it out alive. Like, conceptually, there's some really cool stuff in 06. Crisis City's unique environment, Mephiles as a villain, double chaos control time powers (well...), Iblis, Soleanna. All that stuff is good, but because it was in 06. 06's garbage kinda rubbed off on it, and when everyone realized the game was horrible (including SEGA) all that stuff was never attempted again. No one decided to try and make Mephiles work in new games, no mention of Crisis City, or Solanna, or anything. It all just died with the game. Which makes it all the more impressive that Silver made it out alive.

But that's not the point. We all know it's bad.

The point is that idk where to go from here? Do I keep it the way it is? Do I change it? I'm leaning towards change but what should I change? Would people like those changes?

For example, Blaze is a mess. She's "got amnesia" or whatever, and she's here, but she doesn't talk to anyone but Silver (she almost does when she says "blue hedgehog" but that barely makes any sense and it wouldn't surprise me if it was secretly a pun lost in translation), she always seems to know what Silver was up to even if she wasn't there, she doesn't affect the plot other than making Silver doubt his judgement and then leaving, it's-, it's just a mess.

So, what if we cut Blaze out, altogether? Like, she left before Silver runs into Memphis so Silver's on his own. And since silver can't rely on her to tell him whether or not to trust Mephiles, it makes it so Silver believing him shows it off as a character trait of Silver's desperate naivety instead of it feeling like Blaze sitting there watching him get tricked cuz "it'd be funny". That whole scene really feels like Silver and Blaze get tricked by Mephiles because the plot demanded it of them more than anything else.

Plus, if you don't have Blaze here, Silver's heroes journey can be, in part, trying to figure out what to do when no one's around. Lean on other people less, make his own choices. You wouldn't even really need to cut Blaze's dialogue because Silver would be thinking "what would Blaze do/say?"

And I think it'd add to their friendship, the idea that when he comes back to the future and says he knows how to defeat Iblis, she just goes along with it, and is willing to do anything for Silver because they have such a strong relationship, because she trusts him.

But would people like that retcon? What if people hate it cuz there's less Blaze content?

Idk. It's just something I've been thinking about, there's more things I'd like to change, but luckily, a lot of 06 can be improved by adding extra context, or slightly different introductions that barely change the story.

I'd love to hear what other ppl have to say about dealing with 06's writing, tho

Sexuality Headcanon: besides the obvious Lesbianism, she's also very much Aromantic. apple always struck to me as someone who never really thought about romance/relationships as an option for her, nor did she really Get the idea of what it is (given her lack of social context, not understanding her own emotions, misreading others' intentions, need for attention, and alienation). with an already existing complicated stew of how you perceieve the word and how it treats you back, you're bound to not feel in the same way as alloromantics do (coming from my own experience). she values just about anyone not hating her, maybe even liking her (in her definition "they don't think i'm annoying! wow!"). she's a very lonely girl that really just wants others or even just one person to give her any form of attention to not prove she's a nuisance, and that she's not a bad person. apple is, also very gay, it's very funny to me :) her attraction to women is never really questioned by herself as much as gender is (which isn't a lot either), but she is also quite easily smittened by a Very Pretty Girl walking by her or Rarity MLP. tldr; apple inanimate insanity is not immune to a very pretty/hot girl talking to her in interest for more than 5 minutes (marshmallow) Gender Headcanon: bottom line, she's a trans girl that doesn't really think too much about her gender or anything, but she knows well what her situation is. i think as a kid, she never had the whole "i wish i were a girl/why am i a boy" conflict, but rather just saw herself as just herself. actually i remember briefly talking about this to my partner a while back in dms, here's a screenshot of what i would've typed up lol:

not to mention, her being a very online person allowed her freedom in expressing herself in the way she knew herself as. apple has full awareness of how she’s perceived by others, and the treatment she gets from it at times. i think the older she got, the more she started to somewhat internalize it and turn it into a form of self hate, so she just dealt with that perception (as much as she hated it). online however, was a different case. she was able to be more open about herself, have her ponysona be a girl, play as a girl on webgames, have herself be known as a girl because that’s what the truth was to her. when it comes to transitioning and all that, it could go two ways depending on object or human. if an object, it’d be more comedic in that upon applying for inanimate insanity with the gender question, she just continued to roll with being a girl and thought “yeah... YEAH! i AM a girl!” if human, during one of her occasaional stews of “why am i weird”, she’d probably search that up on google dot com, and somehow end up on a forum or page about being transgender. with that it all just clicks to her “wait, that’s an actual thing? i can just, BE one?” such case would alleviate her self negative view about her gender because not only is she not weird or the only one that feels that way, but she’s actually right about her being a girl! apple isn’t so much hung up on the specifics and terms and labels all that much, nor has transitioning ever been on her mind, gender has always been as nonsensical and confusing as romance anyways. what mattered was that she isn’t Weird nor Alone on it, she’s simply a girl named apple :) A ship I have with said character: MARSHPLE... ah man where do i begin with them. as much as i enjoy the lovey dovey mushy gushyness of their romantic ventures, what i enjoy the most is their persons and how fitting they are for the other as they’re both so so unwell <3 it’s just so, fitting for the two yknow? they fill what the other lacks in, they’re both some of the most hurt individuals in inanimate insanity, they falter and wilt and grow and heal together, man they just have it all <3 and speaking on the apple side of this, it’s just. super interesting and at times touching? with how it is on her end. i adore the unhealthy aspects of marshple and it’s timeline, and how it’s connected to the unwellness of them two, especially apple. like, this girl is so full of symptpms and the way they’re displayed immensely in the marshple timeline? impeccable. i hate when others make marshple to be apple’s only defining trait, but you can’t deny that marshple is essential to apple’s character as it explores so much about her. as you see apple go through the motions of emotional dysregulation and attachment and fears and anxiety and self hate and so much more, you come to realize how apple is this sad lonely girl that just wants someone to not only give her attention and patience, but to not leave her for once. marshmallow provides that and more. she was probably the first to have given her more than what apple was used to (which mightve confused her a bit), not only have willingly spent time with her, but as we know from canon, is patient and tries her best to understand her for the better of them two. and it is not a two way street at all, there’s so much apple provides for marsh out of genuine care and love for her. idk. marshple is just great and i could go on about them and apple’s character in regards to it but this is way too long already </3 A BROTP I have with said character: HUGE enjoyer of dough and apple <3 to me, they sorta fulfil this “older sibling” role for the other in some way, and it makes sense given who they are and what you could headcanon about their own familial life. i’ll be going more onto the apple side of their relationship and save for dough’s side for another post since this is an apple centric ask like i said, apple fills in a sibling role for dough, and she does so out of the fact she subconsciously sees herself in him and cares for those who aren’t at least bad to her. everyone at the mansion has their fair share of emotional problems and something dough and apple share is feeling left out of things/alienated for being weirdos. i’d often think about this tweet during the Bow Twitter Event of 2017:

there’s just something sweet and trustworthy in vulnerability about dough confiding in apple about his personal feelings with his sibling quarrel with bow, and apple being the sorta middleman for them two. not only does she listen and console, she goes out of her way to tend to dough’s issues. she deeply loves and cares for her purgatory family, and only wants them all to be happy! sure, there’s that hint of her being a people pleaser and attempts to keep others happy while ignoring her needs, but at the end of the day she would probably jump in front of an oncoming truck just to save dough (even though he’s dead already). in turn, while not going too in depth with him, dough does provide back some missing needs apple has left out on. again, they’re both weirdos with a creeping sense of alienation, and dough to put it simply, is no stranger to being aware of this (unlike apple). for sure, he’d try his best to include her in on some stuff and help her and himself feel less alone :) also another brief thing about them: apple and dough are THE animal caretakers of the mansion’s minifarm when apple starts bringing in random farm animals. they’re also both internet forum users and have their fair share of interests (oldhead dad rock music for instance) and it’d be funny if dough were a closet mlp fan who once apple starts being talkative about mlp, he’ll go to her and the two would just become these like mlp buddies doing whatever :) A NOTP I have with said character: any guy honestly </3 #lesbianappleftw A Random Headcanon: apple would SO love the mario galaxy series. she's not a gamer by any means, i think she'd suck at it, but that doesn't stop her from enjoying the space-y themes and music :^) given apple probably grew up in the countryside far from the city, she already has full exposure to the bright night sky and all it's beauty. not to mention, i think given how often she'd feel alienated and "weird" from others around her, i think she'd find solace in space. like a sorta far away home she's connected to because she doesn't fit in with the rest here. this is brought up even more during her stay at idiotic island, where once again she's met with lonliness and the stars in the night sky. apple had no one there, only the thoughts that would challenge her already low self esteem, so of course she'd find even more comfort knowing the stars and planets and comets and beyond looked down from up above and watched over her. it's become a sorta personal thing to her in that if she's out and looking up at the sky, she'd probably be lost in thought but at some form of ease and belonging for once. apple is pretty competitive, so she will game for a good bit (and be bad at it), but her main takeaway from mario galaxy is the overall comforting atmosphere it provides to her. she’ll mainly roam around the comet observatory, starship mario, or miscellanious worlds with the music on up and sorta take in the tranquility of feeling at home. not to mention, her softie lil heart would be very taken by rosalina and luma’s story (and smittened by rosalina because ahhh pretty lady) General Opinion over said character: she’s ok i guess

I have thoughts on the Rick Sanchez vs The Doctor death Battle. You can watch it here if you want, it's actually really good, tho ends kinda stupidly. The voice acting for Rick isn't the best also. But anyway.

I'm just gonna talk about why I disagree with the results. Not that I fully think the Doctor would lose to Rick, but their set-up kinda makes that a garuntee in the context of the fight.

So, first and foremost, they have the entirety of the Doctor Who universe take place within the Central Finite Curve. Meaning Rick, in this fight, is smarter than the Doctor, as only universes where Rick is the smartest exist in the Central Finite Curve. This here honestly is enough to give Rick the win. If the Doctor exists in the Central Finite Curve, and Rick has prior knowledge of the Time Lords, that means somewhere out there, a Rick has invented a way to destroy them. And because our Rick is basically a god among Ricks, so far above most of them he can butcher an entire army of Rick's effortlessly, he would 100% either have found this weapon or invented it. He is, after all, only one of 2 Ricks who invented Portal Travel themselves.

Giving Rick home field advantage AND prior knowledge of the Time Lords means... He has fully prepared for fighting one. Likely has even fought one once before (at least a version of him has in all likelihood). This means there is no possible way the Doctor can actually win.

Second, with the above being true, this comes to my second reason: the Doctor is a pacifist. Even in the fight he hesitates constantly to get lethal, while Rick never hesitates. Not once. Rick with prep time against a foe that will hesitate to kill him? Yeah, sorry, that foe loses. Hard.

And yeah, they mention the doctor has gone very far before, even genociding his own people, but this was to defend others and he had to be pushed to get that far. Rick goes that far for KICKS.

Thirdly, and finally... How they make him lose wouldn't happen. Rick wouldn't leave the portal on his back OPEN. Rick is not that stupid. Portals always close behind him unless he purposefully leaves them open.

Meaning their final scene where the doctor is in the process of becoming his next self would not be the end of Rick, but the end of the Doctor. Rick took his own weapon for erasing people from existince and shot it at the Doctor. Rick would not leave the portal on his back open, so the Doctor would have died.

HOWEVER, if they had put the Doctor Who universe outside the Central Finite Curve, then Rick would 100% have lost. But you are throwing a Rick who knows what he's going up against up against a being who's species he knows a lot about while giving him home field advantage. Rick should not have lost.

It was really their set up that makes Rick's loss stupid. If they had done it without the Doctor Who universe being within the Central Finite Curve, then yes, Rick would have lost provided the Doctor actually tried to kill him. Cuz without the intent to kill, you are really not beating Rick. By refusing to kill him, you are just giving him time to figure out how to kill you.

I never had any ocs that stuck around before making coach for the stupidest crack fic with my friends,, so idrk how this is supposed to work but whatever. He isn't a very nuanced character yet, but he'll get there eventually.

on the google doc for planning False-hearted (the insane crack fic) this is what was written for coach a while back

"Coach: (deals with some behind the scene shit and plans “plays” to do in battle) {Boss Man} He plans plays for battle but also is in battle observing and making plans on the spot- like we all have radios and hes armed creepin around being like oooooo we got an abandoned sentry ill get that which opens up a space for someone else to come in and yada yada u get the idea (long story short i'm specifying that he gets a gun and gets to be in battle cause teehee silly) YOOOO HE CAN LIKE TRAIN THE MERCS N SHIT BY ANALYSIZING THEIR SKILLS IN BATTLE AND SEEING WHAT TGET CAN WORK OJ AND RAAGGHH cuz they got that training gym area right? coach the personal trainer lol"

Also have I mentioned its a self-insert? I think I may have just said oc but no yeah this guy is just me.

in terms of who this guy is, he gets along well with pretty much everyone, bullies scout like a brother a lot tho. no hard feelings ofc. since a very young age he had a lot of pressure and responsibility dropped on him, so while he is immature and messing around sometimes, he is wary of being too obnoxious, is never vulnerable with others, and puts up this false rigid cool leader guy persona. For now at least.

He may not talk to others about his emotions or whats going on with him, but he doesnt just bottle it up and never think about it. Hes got an over analytical brain and has looked into every single thing hes ever done or said and seems to truly understand so very much about himself. Hes knows the issues he has but cant bring himself to fix them because that takes being vulnerable and brave. Some things he cant be. He appears brave to others in your typical "do whatever it takes to help others and jump into action without worry" way tho.

In terms of backstory and what growing up was like? I havent decided yet lol

Emerie week is officially over. Yet, I'd like to talk about her a little more - and, at the same time, to answer those who keep saying shit regarding her relevance.

{so, here we go. ems and acosf! a tale}

“Good.” Emerie’s smile was a thing of dangerous beauty. She said again, “Good.” There was steel in this female. Not just in her straight spine and chin, but in her eyes.

ও Chapter 9 is when both Ems and Gwyn show up in ACOSF for the first time. And it's special how both interactions with Nesta carry a parallel: the two of them are not afraid of who our Lady Death is. This, as we know, marks the beginning of the most beautiful friendship in all ACOTAR books; no questions asked. Now, although I love the three of them, my focus here is Emerie. She only appears again in chapter twenty-five, becoming, finally, constant throughout the story.

Emerie was too afraid to face her own desires: to be free, to fight and to stand against her father's voice. But Nesta, by telling her this, instead of being offensive (cuz let's be honest, any other character there would be mad), made Ems understand the truth and find courage to be more. She heard this female, who was as hurt as her, talking about being brave and she joined her. She accepted her. As she did with the many other women in the same situation.

Emerie grew up alone, but not anymore.

From this moment on, Emerie found a place among Gwyn and Nesta. They just... matched. And let me tell you this: she was the missing piece. The third one - the one who makes them impenetrable; while Nesta is the beginning, Gwyn is the middle and Emerie is the end. And although they are very similar, they play different roles. Emerie is the force who will never let them crumble; she hasn't had the same as the others at some point in their life, so that makes her the fiercest abt them. She named them sisters. She closed the deal.

Aside from the Valkyries, she is an incredible character by herself. Thing is... the girls blend into each other, but they are interesting individually. And when it comes to Emerie, she represents something entirely new for the books: a illyrian woman who outlived the terrors of her life alone and is strong enough to keep going. Her existence purely means resistance. She is a force against all illyrian male who want to subjugate her; lock her in a marriage. And even fighting these things every day, she's still funny, lovely and a person who has common hobbies and commom dreams. She's sincere and loyal. Not to mention she will she probably a lesbian character, which means even more regarding the context she grew up in.

I could say more. But, summarily, Emerie of Illyria gives us much to love and cherish.

That said, show her some respect. And show us, the Valkyries stans, the same as for we really know Emerie and care about her. We don't belong to the part of the fandom that only uses her as a tool to their arguments. For us, she is indispensable and irreplaceable.

Jack_BadCat (me) was falsely banned by him. He was really grasping at straws just to get me out of HF entirely due to me being, and I quote… “abrasive, aggressive, rude, and seemingly instigating drama for no reason, even when situations don’t pertain to you.”

And, here, I quote, are the main reasons I got pushed into that ban:

“most of what I do is me speaking for other’s behalf not my own cuz honestly I have been treated like a queen on here (I say while my name is GREEN)” Which was partially true at the time due to how I was very good at fighting back with the staff in reports, tickets, concerns, etc. and knew the rules so well I was almost untouchable at one point.

“but the worst part is that it’s all kept quiet and makes people feel isolated and scared”

“also my 2 other warnings/mutes were both mistakes from the staff’s end but they still counted anyways”

“I had no idea a staff request to move to a different channel (ex. #suggestions-and-ideas, #reports-tickets-concern-forms) was actually "SHUT THE FRICK UP NOW AND MOVE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE OR UR GONNA GET A WARNING” (I’d like to add in between these that this was taken very out of context, the other person I was messaging said “they’re gonna get u for that” or whatever and I responded in all caps “I HOPE THEY KNOW I AM JOKING LOL” so… it was obviously satire/sarcasm??

“…did you JUST now get approved?” Which was a joking stab within context for how it took over a month to get it approved.

“Thank you for answering my questions!! NOT. Because I was skipped. But no point now I guess. 💀” And btw, I said this BEFORE I got my final warning so it wouldn’t have even counted. He had to dig that deep to find enough reasons to defend himself about it.

The thing is that… we were friends prior as well? Which made it sting even more when it came from him. For a while I believed he took it because he thought it’d lightened the blow to see a friendly/familiar face, or that he was told to do it because we were on friendly terms and just copy n pasted what someone else had written. But now looking back… nah he was just an asshole. He was very weird and usually only hung out with the girls there which were almost always minors, while being pretty distanced with members who were older/guys. It just… rubs me the wrong way on so many levels.

I was going to send all the screenshots but tumblr SUCKS with images so like…. yeah, if anything ill make a little youtube video on it if anything. (And this is me not even mentioning the whole Noodles fiasco LMAO)

mod edit: I’ve heard 3 people talk about the girls thing and as someone who talked to him alot maybe i just dont see it since i was kinda involved, but i never pegged him as the malicious or predatory type while talking and its been years so while its good to keep that part in mind unless someone steps forward take it lightly, id take even this mod edit lightly it’s just my own observation

I’m surviving with 2 hours of sleep and 5 cups of coffee at the moment so I feel too much and I just want to talk about things I feel about kinnporsche I apologize in advance if none of it makes sense also sorry for the bad English 🙏

1)please use your logic T-T

So for a start, I have to say I don’t understand the people who criticize a character in a book, series, or a manga without considering the context of it like they don’t consider the character’s back story, traumas, the universe where the story is happening in and how it can affect every decision that character makes.

As a clear example, we have kinnporsche it’s a mafia series; the plots and characters are not supposed to be your everyday people.

Kinn is not supposed to be your next-door boyfriend, no one will watch this series and going to be like “yeah that’s the goal, I need a relationship like that omg yes queen” the characters are messed up, and all of them no exception (I’m just saying if you are falling for monster there is something twisted about you too)

So when people come and except Kinn to be a perfect boyfriend it just makes me laugh cuz he was never supposed to be perfect. (to be honest, in my opinion, BOC made him too soft if I was supposed to write him I would have made him so much darker and more distant)

All I’m saying is before coming for a character’s throat please check if their action makes sense in the situation that they are in or not, ik you all are keep able of it we saw you all did it for Vegas.

Two times that Fandom didn't understand the assignment 😭😭😂

2) Kinn`s character is a walking trust issue

( it was established from the start)

The thing about Kinn is he is a lone wolf, and he is a traumatized man with childhood trauma, a bad dad figure, lots of lost dreams, and a heart that doesn’t match his lifestyle ehich is also broken , also he doesn’t have someone to turn to for comfort and support he is used to doing things alone. He has his brothers, yes but they don’t do emotions.

His older brother is out of it so Kinn let him be and his youngest is just never there so Kinn has no choice except to bear the crown alone, the crown that he doesn’t want. And his father sees him more as an investment that has to work rather than a son.

So he learned how to deal with everything alone, his dead dreams, his broken heart. His hopes and of course his plans as well.

So not sharing his plan with Porsche from the start is not out of character because he is not used to it but he said he was going to tell him when Porsche was locked up but my theory is he wanted to tell P much sooner, when? At pool when he found P and V together so he said fuck it if he is not going to listen to me I’m not telling him my plan either but then everything got fucked.

( yes I really believe something important was lost here)

3) why I’m low-key disappointed in Porsche

Because! Where did it go?? Where is all that character development?? Nowhere, they threw it out of the window poof gone.

What do I mean? Let me tell you. In the past episodes, it was like Porsche was actually suspicious of Vegas especially when he mentioned the bar thingy we thought he was playing Vegas in his own games that he actually doesn’t trust him. All that meditation I was like yes no more impulsive decisions but NO it all went south.

He decided to trust the man whom everyone in the major family hated (babe there must be a valid reason for that), yeah I know he was trying to help Kinn in his own way but his way was wrong I was very disappointed when he chose Vegas over the man he loves and that aside Kinn is also the leader he needs to have more trust in that man.

The other thing is Porsche says Kinn doesn’t trust him which is not true Kinn does trust him he is just really cautious but he trusts Porsche enough to let him go with Vegas (his nemesis) even though he had plans he let Porsche go.

And the other thing is Porsche doesn’t trust Kinn as well !! it’s a two-way street, my boy, Porsche must trust Kinn more as lover and leader and Kinn needs to learn how to open his heart to Porsche.

4) can we all stop babying Porsche?

Don’t come at me I’m not saying Porsche is not our baby cuz he is ; what I’m saying is Porsche’s character is way more than a little waist, cute meow meow, my bobo, oh so pore my heart is broken for him.

He is the same man who was kicking ass in undergrounds fight he is a keepable man. He is strong and smart, he is sexy and he knows how to use it in his favor, so I’m disappointed that the writers are not using Porsche episode1 more. Porsche makes some impulsive decisions because he is emotional and his heart rules his brain( no hate it'sjust how ge is, just as for kinn his emotionsare on low because he train that way kinn is gray and kinda distant it'sjusthoe they are). We even saw it in the way he was trying to save chay (come on that was not a good plan even if Vegas was helping him it was no real plan just go there trust God and try to do something 😂😭) but I understand him as a person who is out of this world I completely get him but I believe if we are going to hold characters accountable for their actions we should consider both parties in the relationship

I just hope they let us see that Porsche grow as a badass bodyguard who is mentally and physically superior because he has all the potential

I wanted to talk about communication problems too but I’m tired, Also Pete and Big are superior

Tbh, Gaon's parents loved each other more than they loved Gaon.

Also, Gaon loved Yohan more than he loved Elijah (sorry for saying this, but that's the truth. Gaon trying to kill himself with a bomb proved us that) just imagine, if both Gaon and Yohan died at the end. Elijah will face the same thing that happened to Gaon when he was 16. (Not to mention that Elijah is also 16) if that happened, idk what will happen to Elijah cuz she lost her parents when she was 6 (6 right?) Then, the new found parents (we can't deny the fact that Yohan and Gaon are Elijah's parents)

Also Gaon proved us that he didn't love Soohyun as much as he loves Yohan.

This is crazy girl😭 I mean, Gaon shouldn't have confessed to Soohyun. We could see how awkward that kiss was. He wasn't sure about the confession either. And by confessing to her, I guess Soohyun knew this. She knew that Gaon isn't sure about himself. So, that's not good. Just confessing to the girl who loved him for years. That's was unfair to Soohyun. To himself as well. Cuz he betrayed his own real feelings.

This is something I really don't like about Gaon. He acts without thinking. Overall he's very nice and I really really love him a lot. But, by acting without thinking always disappoint me.

I actually finished The Devil Judge recently and you guys inspired me a lot to watch it. I mean who can ignore this, after getting so much spoilers from here 😭😂 that's why I sent this ask. I don't have anyone to talk about TDJ so....yeah😁

I’m going to go through your ask and comment on different parts just so it doesn’t get all jumbled up!!!! i kind of play devil's advocate with this one so i hope i don't come across as rude. i think you bring up some great points that deserve some more context and analysis!!!!

this is long so, to get into this:

Tbh, Gaon's parents loved each other more than they loved Gaon.

I think this one is complicated because I know some people have expressed the same thing, but personally, I don’t know that I believe that fully. See, parents are never supposed to outlive their children anyway. That’s a concept we’ve adopted just because that’s the very nature of life: those who grow older will die first and so on and so forth. Of course, that’s not always the case, but most parents will tell you they wish to go before ever seeing their children pass away.

I think when you love people fiercely, it’s a complicated thing. I don’t think I’d be able to point this out if I hadn’t been working on a health care account at work, but it’s most likely that gaon’s mother passed following her husband and gaon’s father because of broken heart syndrome. While typically unlikely that someone can die by the condition, it is possible, and I think a lot of film tropes utilize it more than it actually happens.

Broken heart syndrome is where someone goes through extreme stress that is significantly emotional or traumatic. It generally happens in women more often than men. The heart enlarges and doesn’t pump, which can lead to heart muscle failure. The condition is treatable.

The condition is also different than a heart attack because it’s not caused by blocked arteries and is primary induced by death of a loved one, breakups, betrayals, rejection, separation anxiety or divorce.

I think it’s safe to say that gaon’s mother might have experienced this. Some people feel their emotions much more than others, which is why this is a known condition.

As for gaon’s father, I don’t think s*icide is a selfish act, per se. One of the things I’ve noticed in every kdrama I’ve seen so far (and I can count on one hand how many I’ve seen) is that there is always, always mention of a suicide. This makes sense when you look at South Korea’s s*icide rates. They’re one of the highest in the world, and it seems television shows have either taken that into account or it’s so highly prominent in society that it’s used as a plot point because it’s relatable to the situation there. (Similar to the way gun discussions and/or use are depicted or utilized in American films).

And I think as well, when we discuss s*icide, it’s generally a symptom of mental health issues. What kind of duress was gaon’s father under after he found out his money was gone? How much did he think of himself as a failure and as a fool? Whether or not reputation played a part, it’s certainly a contending factor as well as the shame involved of what happened – even if it wasn’t gaon’s father’s fault whatsoever. People make choices, rational or not, and we weren’t given an inside look into what drove him to make that decisions.

However, where I’m going with this is that I’m sure on some level, and one he probably thought of the moment gaon was born, was knowing that gaon would outlive them all. That gaon would be fine to go on without his parents because being human means there is resiliency.

Which is also why, to your next point, I don’t think gaon loved Yohan more than Elijah, necessarily. There is a parallelism used between gaon’s parents and what happened to him and Elijah and her parents, gaon and Yohan, that could’ve happened to her. That’s purposeful to one, show that the kangs + gaon are a family, and two, that both Yohan and gaon have broken a cycle of s*icide before it could really begin again.

But when we think about Yohan and gaon’s choices, when can compare them to gaon's parent’s. Yohan has casted himself as villain for Elijah to hate, to direct her anger towards because she needed an outlet and Yohan was willing to be that for her. So he knew Elijah was capable of continue to live on – after all, Yohan found gaon and realized he made it himself being an orphan at 16. But Yohan also convinced himself so thoroughly that Elijah didn’t need him, probably didn’t love him the same, and justified it as a way to repent and make wrong the rights. Instead, he failed to realize elijah’s love for Yohan despite his flaws, despite the clouded unsureness of whether Yohan killed Isaac. Gaon’s father probably failed to realize that gaon loved him no matter what, too.

For gaon's choice, it’s also an act of repentance for his hasty decisions. We see that when he says sorry by giving Elijah her food and telling her Yohan had nothing to do with the fire. Gaon’s justifications are simply, in the same vein as Yohan, to make things right no matter what. Would he have chosen this method had the government not turned itself into a military state while controlling the press? That’s a good question. Gaon’s decision was rooted out of love and a sense of responsibility. He even tells Elijah in the mansion just after Yohan is taken that he will make things right, and he will bring Yohan back.

The second time gaon makes his declaration (to Yohan) is both held in truth and manipulation to get Yohan to stay. It’s clear gaon knows that Yohan thinks he’s important, and if Elijah isn’t enough to get him to stay (which she is, but again, he’s doing it out of saying sorry to her) then maybe gaon would be the driving force, an apology on some level for not believing in Yohan after all this time. And within that, there’s also the fact that gaon, like Yohan, knows how capable Elijah is. I think underneath it all, Yohan knew that even if he did die at the courthouse, gaon would be there for Elijah.

Also Gaon proved us that he didn't love Soohyun as much as he loves Yohan.

I think yes and no with this one. I think this is true on a romantic level but that gaon’s love for each of them is also inherently different form each other, but gaon had yet to figure that out.

Gaon loved soohyun but in a different way. She was his friend, but she based it on conditional love. Gaon would do anything not to lose her because she’s been his only family for years. Which is why I firmly believe he told her he liked her because it was one of the only ways he knew how to get her not to leave him. gaon couldn’t afford to have someone else leave. But as noted by their awkward as hell kiss, even soohyun realized she built gaon up in her mind and that both of them were clinging onto each other for comfortability.

Between soohyun and Yohan, it was never about which one will gaon choose romantically because they were never on the same playing field to begin with. Gaon just had to figure that out for himself and there was never a love triangle. Gaon made that very clear by rejecting soohyun for over two decades, at that point.

Additionally, I think with this one, it’s not necessarily about ranking someone’s love but realizing how toxic it can be from both sides. Yohan manipulates and lets gaon be as free as he wants, a little too much. Soohyun keeps gaon in check, restrictive. This is why the end of the devil judge is so pivotal because it’s gaon finally coming to a place where he has the freedom to find himself without the influences of everyone else around him. He’s more clear-headed. He can finally exam how he truly feels, dissect it fully, without the influence of soohyun holding their friendship over his head, or Yohan asking him to choose him out of desperation to keep gaon on his side. Gaon finally has his own free will to decide.... and guess who he chooses!!!

As I said, I think it’s always been clear the trajectory of the romance. Gaon just needed to establish what was what: loving soohyun as a friend, and loving yohan as a romantic partner.

Kind of in line to what I mentioned above, the kiss was really awkward, and I think it was both of them realizing this was not what they wanted. Soohyun thought she wanted gaon and when she got him, she wasn’t enthusiastic about it at all. gaon chose soohyun and ‘confessed’ simply because he wanted to keep her by his side. Soohyun’s love was always conditional and the only way to really get her back after all he’d done with Yohan (to which soohyun thought was bad and wrong and morally corrupt without ever understanding fully or letting goan explain himself) was to play her romantic emotions. I don’t think he did it out of maliciousness but knew that was the one button he could push that would actually get her to listen to his apology. In the same vein of it being wrong for gaon to do that, it was so very wrong for soohyun to question gaon’s judgment, dangle their friendship on what she thought was morally right and wrong and then go right back to not believing and/or listening to him the next morning when he asked that they trust Yohan in the face of a fascist government. On top of that, her incessant need to confess to gaon when he told her multiple times no is also really gross.

At this point, I don’t know that gaon fully realized his feelings for Yohan. They were certainly there under the surface but on that superficial level, he hadn’t managed to connect the dots. So while us viewers knew it was gaon betraying his feelings (just as we had to watch gaon question his judgment the entire way bc of the professor and soohyun), he hadn’t quite figured out his deal with Yohan just yet. I think, however, it did go against his base instinct to trust Yohan. And when he tried to bring it up again, as I said above, soohyun still wouldn’t listen.

Gaon’s actions were certainly frustrating on first watch, but they really do serve a purpose in the story!!! Gaon’s impulsiveness comes from years of suppressing his desires and never having a good outlet to healthily talk about his feelings. When gaon wanted to kill the conman as a teen, soohyun told him not to do it, and he suppressed what he felt until he had a second chance to do what he couldn’t the first time. Those things were always there inside him, but they were stilted. So how does that translate? To gaon make brash decisions.

It’s very similar to…. Restrictive dieting, for lack of a better example. Say you cut out all sweets from your diet, and you know you’re a sweet person. Most often then not, the longer you cut out those foods and punish yourself, the more likely you’re going to binge eat sweets, or at least consume a good amount. It’s a very common cycle with people, including myself.

And this is the same predicament gaon finds himself in. He’s had to live by soohyun and the professor’s rules for so long (bc again, their love is conditional), and he can’t make any wrong moves or they’ll punish him in some way for it. Yohan gives gaon an outlet to express his desires and then choose whether he wants to go through with it or not.

A perfect example of this is the conman. When gaon is in conman's house, acting on his desires to kill the man responsible for his parent’s death, he ends up stopping himself of his own free will. Yohan, of course, steps in, but guess what Yohan does? He hands Gaon the knife and lets him decide what he should do. Gaon gets to choose. No one else, and guess what gaon chooses? He throws the knife and realizes that the conman can be useful.

People are not inherently evil for these kinds of thoughts/feelings. It’s what you do with them that matter. Gaon really just needed to have an outlet to express everything he’d pent up for so long because it’s so very clear what happens when he isn’t given the chance. He makes brash and irrational decisions based on emotions, and people get hurt because of it. I think in some ways, Yohan has taught gaon to be more patient.

So it’s okay to feel disappointed in gaon for that. I think there were many instances I felt that frustration, too. but context is always important as well!!

do you think we’re getting queerbaited with the whole “talder” thing? cuz lots of ppl on the cast are talking about it,and with the teasers...i’m just hoping it’s not because if it is then that’s disgusting

just because two female characters have chemistry together does not mean that they HAVE to become canon or the show is automatically queerbaiting you. the way the term queerbait has been bastardized to hell and back is beyond me. do people not use the term 'crackship' anymore? am i old? have i been here too long? lmao. i know that lgbtq+ people have had a rocky relationship with our representation in media but we can just have fun ya know! i promise you we can and we used to do it quite a lot. actresses can acknowledge that they have good on screen chemistry and just have fun with it, just like the fandom does, without it being a Thing™. people can acknowledge chemistry and subtext and enjoy it without it having to become a "they must be canon or else" moment. ESPECIALLY on a show that has main wlw characters that are well developed and individualized characters all on their own! i promise you if they wanted to queerbait you they had much better characters to do it with than tally and alder.... and in this case, i mean i definitely am having fun with jessica and lynn's on screen chemistry but i wud never actually want tally and alder to become canon because it just makes no sense for their characters not to mention how uncomfortable that is in context. alder is 350 yrs old, morally grey and in a huge position of power over tally. tally is 18! EIGHTEEN! she's still a child and a naive and easily impressionable one that just went through some of the most traumatic times of her life. in the context of the show, that relationship wud be FAR from healthy or a logical path for their characters to take, for a number of reasons. but there's a reason there's crackships ya know. like i can't lie, first season of supergirl i def read my fair share of supercat fic and i still have some of my faves bookmarked to this day cus gawd the supercat fandom created some MASTERPIECES but did i ever really want that relationship to be canon on the show? not at all. part of the fun was knowing that it really never wud happen, for many obvious and logical reasons, but i got to explore and have fun with the subtexty moments and the best most interesting parts of their dynamic in all sorts of universes (that made far more sense than the actual context of the characters in the show) through the lens of fandom and it was amazing! these things can just be fun! just, just let it be fun!

that being said, i do think this could possibly open up a conversation about tally's sexual identity in canon which i'm very open to, but it still would not automatically make this queerbaiting.

title: stuck with you pairing: yoongi x reader, taehyung and jimin as side characters genre: fluff request: “Can you do a idol!Min Yoongi of BTS request of his crush being best friends with Jimin and Taehyung and him and his crush consistently fluster the other but they never realize until one day he does and finally make as move despite everyone telling them for weeks that they like each other?” word count: 3.3k warnings: some cursing, mentions of the pandemic a/n: i’ve been actively avoiding writing anything concerning the pandemic/lockdown cuz let’s be real, we’re all here to have fun, not think about real-life shit...but i decided to try it here

i wasn’t sure how to write their living arrangements tho since most of them seem to have their own places? so i just used the hannam the hill house for reference 🤪

“How have things been for you guys lately?”

Taehyung and Jimin exchange skeptical looks with each other, which you don’t catch because you’re too busy picking over your food.

“We’ve all been stuck in the same damn place for weeks now, so you tell me.” Taehyung chuckles, shaking his head.

You visiting their house right before the stay-at-home mandate was issued ended up with the three of you—plus Yoongi, to your luck—being cooped up in the same house for almost two weeks now. It wasn’t wholly a bad thing, since you got to be with your two best friends, but living with three men was pretty much as messy as you’d expected it to be. “Wow. Never thought we’d run out of things to talk about.”

Jimin tries to humor you. “Things have been fine, you know...same as always. Except for Yoongi-hyung acting like a lovesick weirdo. But you wouldn’t know about that, would you…?” Jimin feigns an innocent look.

You look up from your plate. “A lovesick weirdo for who?”

“We’ve been through this like 20 times already, Y/N,” Jimin sighs.

“Yes, and every time I tell you you must have the wrong person because that makes no sense whatsoever.”

“He’s lovesick over you,” Taehyung reiterates, like you didn’t catch the gist the first time around.

“I don’t think Yoongi likes me.” You shake your head and make a face at the notion of it, trying to disguise your irritation at them constantly trying to provoke your emotions.

“Why not? There’s a lot to like about you, don’t downgrade yourself.” Jimin insists.

“He doesn’t even act like he does. If anything, he gets all odd around me.”

“That’s just how he is,” Taehyung says, leaning back in his chair. “You’d think you’d start to catch onto this after being here for so long, but…”

“No, she’s too busy being too embarrassed and intimidated to even get within 4 meters of him.” Jimin and Taehyung both giggle at that, and you shake your head.

“You guys are like little schoolkids. How many more big tales are you going to think up before our quarantine lifts? You could probably write a book by the end.”

Taehyung shrugs, putting his arms behind his head. “I might do that, as long as you let me make you and hyung the star-crossed lovers who are too dumb to tell each other how they feel.” He stretches his leg under the table to nudge your shin with his toes, knowing how you hate when he puts his bare feet on you, and he cackles when you protest loudly.

“Will you stop trying to get my hopes up for nothing—?”

Speak of the devil and he shall appear. Yoongi steps out onto the terrace with the three of you a few minutes later. He shields his eyes against the sun’s sudden brightness after he slides open the glass door, holding his other arm up.

“Look who’s appeared!” Jimin says excitedly, his eyes glittering with enthusiasm.

“You’re loud,” Yoongi grumbles, though he’s mostly speaking to Taehyung and Jimin. “I can hear you laughing from downstairs.” Your body tenses up and melts all at the same time, and suddenly you feel like you don’t know how to do anything right—like hold your chopsticks correctly. They shoot out of your hand when you try to use them again and hit the patio floor. You look at them forlornly.

“You good?” Yoongi asks, a smile fluttering across his lips at your clumsy actions.

“Uh, yeah I’m fine.” You can only glance back at him, embarrassed that you’ve made yourself look like a clown. Jimin laughs like he’s just witnessed the funniest thing on Earth. You shake your head and push away from the table, wanting—no, needing—a quick exit. “I’ll just find some more of those…”

Jimin shakes himself free of his sudden bout of laughter and jumps at the opportunity. “Wait, I’ll get them for you.” He bolts up from the chair before you can even think about it and goes back into the house, already planning to take his sweet time on his mission to get you new chopsticks. Taehyung picks up the hint almost instantly.

Yoongi turns back to the doorway after Jimin disappears through it, his movements a few beats too late—as if he’s just now realizing the other man left. “What was that about—”

“Oh shit!” Taehyung’s exclamation cuts into Yoongi’s question. In a sweeping motion, Taehyung “accidentally” elbows your water off the table, sending the bottle splashing out onto the patio in sad little streams. You jerk away from the splash, but the water droplets have already gotten you.

“What the hell?!”

Taehyung shrugs like it was inevitable and gives a sheepish smile. There’s an undeniable scheme lingering in his eyes, though. “Looks like I’ll have to get you another one.” He stands up to get your aforementioned water, though you begin to form the idea that you’re not getting any water at all.

You sigh and rub your fingers across your forehead. The heat of the sun has turned from pleasant to uncomfortable, and you don’t even have your water to take the edge off. Great.

Yoongi turns back to you, his eyebrows creased. “That was weird.”

“They’re just trying to…” Force us together? You’re too embarrassed to say anything like that, and your words trail off in a stammer. Why did they ever think this would be a good idea? Yoongi raises his eyebrows in curiosity at your bitten-off answer. “An-anyway, that doesn’t matter. So...what are you doing out here?”

Yoongi shrugs, smirking slightly. “Well, I do live here.”

You snort to cover the way your stomach cuts a flip at his smirk, and you reach for your food in a nervous gesture before you remember your chopsticks are still gone. “You sorta seem like a vampire, though. I’m surprised you came out to get some sun.”

Yoongi mulls over that thought. “Hmm…a vampire, huh?” He runs a hand through his pitch-black hair, and even though the gesture is just an afterthought, it makes your heart skip a beat. You almost want to roll your eyes at your reaction to that simple movement. “Don’t tell me you were one of those obsessive Twilight fans over a decade ago.”

“And if I was?”

“Would you enjoy being bitten by a vampire?” Yoongi regrets it as soon as he says it, and you ducking your head into your hands doesn’t help the flaming embarrassment. “Fuck, that was stupid—sorry.” Your shoulders are shaking with laughter, and even though it’d be cute in another context, he feels like he’s about to combust. So he decides to make a run for it. Maybe a cowardly move on his part, but it seems like the best one right now.

“Hyung, you can’t be serious—” Jimin calls out to Yoongi as the older man brushes past once he gets back indoors, but the other man tries his best to ignore Jimin as a blush crawls up his neck. “Go back and tell her. It was the perfect moment!”

“There’s gonna be a lot more of that mess until we can leave,” Taehyung says, peering through the glass at your now confused expression and shaking his head. “God, one of them needs to say something before I lose my mind.”

Like Taehyung predicted, there’s a lot more of “that mess” over the next week. You and Yoongi continue to tip-toe around each other, unsure of how to appropriately handle each other and never unable to shake the awkwardness that colors every interaction.

The most notable incident of all, however, occurs when Yoongi does his laundry one day and somehow finds a pair of your underwear mixed in with his clothes after taking them out of the dryer. How the hell did they even get there, and how did he not notice them before?

Bound to his usual fierce overthinking, he stands there for a few long moments, wondering what he should do. Obviously, the only answer would be to return them to you. But then what if you think that’s weird, him somehow having your underwear? Or what if you assume he’s some pervert who’d taken your panties on purpose?

And to his great luck, that’s precisely when you walk into the laundry room. You give him a timid smile and greeting, which melts away into pure embarrassment when you see him standing there as if he’d just been framed for murder—and your deep red panties sitting in his laundry pile.

Yoongi’s gaze darts between the laundry and your eyes, his jaw working aimlessly as he tries to come up with something that makes sense.

He decides on “I didn’t know they were there,” though this feels just as inadequate as it sounds.

“M-maybe I threw them in the wrong bin,” you rush out, and in the same breath you cross the room to practically snatch them out of the pile of his clothes. You know you couldn’t have done it, though, which leads your mind back to those two sneaky men who’ve been trying to exercise their terrible matchmaking skills as of late.

“A-ah, yeah—maybe,” Yoongi agrees half-heartedly, rubbing the back of his neck.

You both pause for what feels like an eternity, for a reason you can’t decipher, and you think you might burst from the sheer discomfort of it all. “Well—th-thanks. One less thing to wash, I guess.” You try to laugh, but the sound comes out high and forced. Similarly, Yoongi’s answering smile is tight around the corners.

The next few days after that, you are both unable to maintain any kind of eye contact. Taehyung and Jimin are endlessly amused by the way you and the older man dance around each other like two ghosts struggling to inhabit the same space.

You make up for it slightly by turning all of Jimin’s white shirts into a splotchy pink once you find out that this was indeed his terrible and silly idea.

You’ve been sleeping in Jimin’s and Taehyung’s beds since you’ve been barricaded in their home with them, which none of you really think twice about. You’ve been friends with them for years and don’t see either of them other than platonically, so it’s not awkward for you or them. Although it was originally intended for you to mostly stay in Jimin’s bed, you end up alternating between the two, climbing into whoever’s bed you feel like that particular night. Neither of them mind the switch-up, and Taehyung likes using you as his personal pillow, so it all works out.

If there was anyone who minded at all, it was Yoongi. It wasn’t a burning jealousy, because he knew he had no right to feel like that about you—not when he couldn’t even admit to you that he liked you. But it didn’t make him want to jump for joy to know you were in either of the younger men’s beds, even just as friends.

He spent many nights imagining you were beside him instead, warming the empty spaces of his bed, whispering to him and telling him about your day. It didn’t matter if he already knew everything you did that day because you’d all been living in the same space for weeks. He still wanted to know.

But until either of you made a move, he didn’t know when that would happen. If ever.

He didn’t even know if you’d be interested, or if you saw him the way he saw you. You were never as close to him as you’d been with the other two men, and although that could be explained by you being best friends with them for years, he honestly chalked it up to you not liking him as much. Taehyung and Jimin had tried to tell him the exact opposite several times before, but he wasn’t really convinced. Not with the way you seemed to lock up around him—like if you said or did the wrong thing, he’d hate you forever.

If only you knew he could never feel that way about you.

You decide to sneak your way to the kitchen for a late-night snack one night, your socked feet scuffing quietly on the floor as you make your way to the kitchen. However, your plan is derailed when you run into Yoongi in the hallway, who has apparently just taken a shower. He’s fully clothed—thank God, because you’re not sure how you would’ve survived it otherwise—but the towel on his wet hair speaks to his recent shower. Your immediate response is to jump in surprise, feeling like you’ve been caught red-handed; although there’s no law stopping you from getting something to eat in the middle of the night.

“Oh—Yoongi.”

“You’re still up?” he asks, pulling the towel away from his face so he can see you better.

“Uh, yeah...I was just getting something to eat, I guess.”

“No crime in that. You’re tip-toeing around like you’re nervous about it, though.”

“I didn’t want to wake anyone up.” You shrug your shoulders, trying to appear more nonchalant than you really feel. “But I see you’re already up…” Your words trail off behind you as you walk into the kitchen. Yoongi watches your retreating back before making the split-second decision to follow you. He’s not really sure why, previously intending to go back to his own room.

“Were you getting something to eat too?” you ask, turning back to glance at him when you hear his footsteps behind you. You’re admittedly happy at the idea of spending a little more time alone with Yoongi, though you’re still nervous as hell.

It’s probably not the best idea to say I just came because I wanted to be next to you, so he nods to your question. "Uh, sure, I guess. What were you gonna get?”

“I don’t really know, just whatever’s in here…” You open the fridge and stare into it absentmindedly, your eyes raking over the food but not really seeing it—not with Yoongi’s presence hovering behind you.

Eventually you settle on some leftover rice and kimchi—which there’s always plenty of—not wanting to expend too much energy on cooking anything new.

You and Yoongi sit at the table together, using the light of your phone’s flashlight and the under-cabinet lights to illuminate the room instead of the overhead. Maybe it’s a little strange, but you like the ambiance of it more than having the harsh overhead light on.

The room is quiet for a while as you both eat, which you don’t initially mind. But you can’t ignore how Yoongi keeps stealing glances at you, like you aren’t going to notice, like he isn’t sitting right in front of you where you can see. It makes you antsy, but not necessarily in a bad way.

“Is something up?” you finally ask, keeping your eyes on your half-empty bowls, too nervous to look straight at him.

He hums like he’s thinking intently about it. Then he decides to rip the band-aid off and says, “You’re always tense around me.”

“Oh.”

He chuckles at your short response. “Why?”

You feel like you’ve been backed into a corner, and you hesitate. “Well, you’re always weird around me. Why is that?”

“Touché.” Another tense pause where he thinks of what to say, and then, “Jimin and Taehyung swear you like me.”

You try not to react so obviously, but your spoon clatters against the side of the bowl. If he’s acting weird because of the idea of you liking him, how can it be possible that he returns the feelings? Maybe he doesn’t know how to let you down easily. You suddenly feel ridiculous, like you’ve been wasting your emotions on nothing. “...I see.”

“I thought they were...trying to play some game. But, since you’re here now...is it true?”

Maybe if you close your eyes hard enough, you can poof yourself out of existence. If you felt trapped before, you really are now. You blurt out the first thing you can think of, trying to save yourself.

“Before you think I’m stupid for liking you, you should know they’ve been saying the same thing to me about you. So. Yeah.”

Yoongi looks at you full-on. “They told you I like you?” A nervous grin fixes itself on his lips, which makes you second-guess yourself. At this point, your head and heart are tangled in a knot. Why does your love life have to be this difficult? “So that’s it, then.”

“What is?”

“We like each other.” That makes your heart rate pick up. “...and didn’t even figure it out until just now, despite everyone else’s ‘help’.”

You take a shaky breath. “You like me.”

Yoongi nods, glancing between his hands on the table and your face. “I should’ve said it sooner.”

Despite yourself, you feel the corners of your mouth twitch into a slight smile—one that’s colored with relief and a tinge of lingering nervousness. “Later is better than never, I guess.” You find yourself laughing from the way all your stress slowly unwinds itself from your body, and Yoongi joins you, his eyes sparkling in the dark.

“So. This means we’re dating now, right?”

“I hope this isn’t considered our first date.” You snort, looking around the kitchen.

Yoongi shakes his head, placing his cheek in his hand with a sleepy smile. “I promise I’ll take you somewhere nice...after the pandemic is over.”

“We might be waiting a while, then.” Finished with your food, you go to quickly wash the dishes in the sink, and Yoongi slides in next to you to do the same. Another silence falls over the two of you, but for the first time, it’s not uncomfortable or pulled taut with words unsaid.

When you finish, Yoongi leans against the counter, his eyes openly tracing over you, wearing just a big T-shirt and shorts. It’s a simple outfit, but it warms his heart.

“Come sleep with me,” he says suddenly. You crack an awkward smile at that, and he’s blushing before the last syllable even leaves his lips, because he understands how that sounds. “I mean, actually sleep. It’s late.”

You pretend to hesitate on it. “I don’t know, Taehyung might miss me…”

“Taehyung and Jimin have had you all to themselves the past few weeks. It’s my turn now.”

And with that, you let him take your hand and guide you back to his room, maneuvering carefully through the dark house. His bed is new to you, but it’s instantly comfortable—like home. The smell of him surrounds you, as does his arms when he pulls you closer. You smile against the fabric of his shirt as you tuck your face into his chest, his chin on top of your head.

“Goodnight,” he murmurs, his fingers curling around your shoulder. His voice is soft and low, already halfway to sleep.

“Goodnight, Yoongi.”
