Watched The Marvels aka Captain Marvel 2 today and it is bad. Honestly, I'm really disappointed because I wanted it to be good because I like Brie a lot as Captain Marvel and I want to see good movies.

Reasons why it was bad:

It is disjointed. It's a 105 min runtime (thankfully) but the scenes don't really connect and it's very clear that stuff has been edited out. I'm not saying that putting the stuff back in would have made it better because fundamentally it's a writing problem in that the villain is weak, the chemistry between the three leads isn't developed enough, and the whole plot is so basic and paper thin that it's basically like a video game fetch quest.

Some of the light hearted moments/attempts at humor I found really cringe. I don't know if it's because I'm much older than I was when I watched the first marvel films (but then again, I've rewatched some lately and Tony's quips are still very fun), but the singing planet stuff makes me roll my eyes and the flerkin kittens + Memory from Cats scene makes me question - who approved this?!

Needs more character development and backstory. Why is Monica upset with Carol? Why is Dar-Benn (the villain) angry at Carol? What happened to the Kree planet? What's with the Skrull colonies? It's like a whole movie's (not giving Disney ideas but) been skipped. When Monica forgave Carol for leaving, I felt nothing. The best parts of the early Marvel movies were the character development of our heroes and the chemistry between leads and this movie had none of that.

Also, they used a lot of flashbacks that were just scenes directly taken from other movies/tv shows - like Marvel has money, why is it giving me CW network show budget episodes?

It might be time to just give up on any Marvel properties unless they start getting reviewed back in the 80s/90s again on rotten tomatoes.

Teyonnah (Monica's actress) is so pretty

Zawe (Dar-Benn) really hamming it up with those facial expressions as the villain (fun! too bad the writing/editing is sucking right now)

🐒 - What’s their favorite animal?

Dee's 8 eyes stare at the baker. One blink after another as she relaxed in those warm hands. She tilted her head inquisitively, Chris imitating the Lovecraftian cutie's actions. To the left. Then to the right. A few more tilts and one could hear a happy mew from the kitten's lips.

Just like so many years ago.

Chris struggled to make friends when he first moved to the desert city, his only real friend being his sister and sketchbook. However, a strange pitch-black cat would rest in the lobby. Usually giving the Luna's a scowl whenever they fed her the cheap cat food. But a young bespectacled boy always went out of his way to give her premium food and a fresh bowl.

For once, Dee felt felt heard. It was almost too good to be true. She tilted her head inquisitively at the young boy only for him to imitate her action. Next thing she knew, she revealed one of her many forms to the young Chris. Instead of running away scared, he simply accepted it and rubbed her ears gently.

The eldreritch kitten levitates onto his chests, curling up in a small ball to relax with him on his couch. At the base of his couch rests a sleeping hellhound. Lord Quas, Black with hints of volcanic red veins peeking through his fur.

While one would be worried about the presence of two dangerous familars, no doubt wondering if they could destroy the desert state and go on a world wide rampage.

But not Chris.

They were family and he wouldn't have it any other way.

His head turns to Beth, giving her his undivided attention. Upon hearing the question of his favorite animal, he looked down at Dee and then at Quas.

"Well," Chris begins. "I do love cats. Usually of a Lovecraftian or Flerkin variety."

He rubs Dee's ears.

"But dogs are up there too. It's kind of nice having a companion walking with you when you're out and about."

He pauses before a coy smile spreads across his face.

"But I'm also pretty partial to sharks~"

Death's Merchant - Snippet

Loki discovering that the Avengers Compound has some... Interesting residents and that Tony is kind of crazy 😁 I chuckled to myself writing this little addition to the chapter as several people requested Loki meeting Goose or Loki meeting Eddie. It was smallish, so figured I'd put it here.

"Boss, you need to go to the common room."

Tony jerked out of his doze, having fallen asleep on his sofa whilst reading, he had a feeling it was around 3am. But that was early for being summoned places.

"What's going on FRIDAY, its 3am for fucks sake."

"Mr Liesmith just came across Goose."

Tony froze for a second before swearing profusely in a few different languages. Dammit, how had he forgotten that someone like Loki would obviously be well travelled. He jumped up and firewalked to the common room, not wanting to waste and time and immediately jumped in between Goose and Loki.

Catching the surge of green magic before it got to his Murderfloof.

"Mm, tingly!"

"Do you know what manner of creature is stalking your hallways?!"

"Actually, yes I do. I know Goose is a Flerkin, and she's very nice! Best Flerkin I have ever met!"

Loki just blinked at him with a facial expression he was very familiar with. It was the "Are you out of your damned mind?!" look. He edged closer to Loki, knowing the man was still on edge.

"Look, why don't I introduce the two of you?"

Loki was squinting at him now and Tony wondered how the next meet and greet he had planned would go.

"Hey FRIDAY, is Eddie up? I figure we should get our interesting residents officially introduced to our resident God of Mischief."

"You consider me a resident?"

He took that opening to link arms with the other God and sublty tug him in the direction of Goose.

"Of course I do! Now, Goose will eat anything you put ham on, but if you ask her not to eat anything in your room, she won't. Usually. Isn't that right my Goosey-Loosey Murder-Floofy."

"I'm actually more concerned for your sanity than I am for my safety right now. Bravo."

Tony snickered at that and it worked in loosening the other God up. Goose had been watching them with mild disinterest until Tony opened up his arms, the Flerkin made a graceful leap and he caught her easily. She started purring like a train.

"You like Drest, I'm sure you'll like Goose too."

"Drest is small, and does not have tentacles."

"Well. One of those things are true, don't freak out."

"One saying 'Don't freak out' is usually cause to 'freak out'."

He pointed as the table where Drest coalesced from the shadows in her small, kitten shape. In the several steps towards Loki she shifted, growing larger each time until she was the size of a very large, sleek Panther. Muscles rippling under shining fur as he proceeded to greet Loki in the same manner as she had since they'd been introduced. A head but from a kitten however packed a lot less punch than as she was now. Loki wavered on the spot, his hand automatically going for her ears. Drest trained people very quickly.

"I did not expect that. Do you have any other felines that defy the laws of physics?"

"No, but since you are doing so well with Goosey-Loosey and Drest, I figure you should meet Eddie while we are ahead. Luckily the man's sleeping patterns are worse than my own, is he alright to come down Fry?"

"He's on the way Boss."

Loki was gingerly offering a hand towards Goose, who was purring up a storm.

"Is it normal for people of Midgard to harbour one of the most dangerous species in the known universe and name them after harmless avian creatures or is it just you?"

"Actually, Goose has Carol as her pet human. And harmless? Goosey-Loose is much nicer than actual geese!"

"That ridiculous nickname is causing quite the disconnect in my mind. Right, after this I'm sure nothing could shock me. Why do you wish me to speak to Eddie? I remember him vaugley from when we arrived, he seemed Midgardian in appearance, but everyday I spend around yourself that means less and less. "

"I'm taking that as a compliment, so, funny story. Do you know much about Klyntar? "

Loki seemed to be speechless, something Tony found rather amusing. In his defence, it was 3am.

"You are jesting. Surely."

"What are you after Tony, I was playing Diablo 3, Venom is grumpy at being interrupted as he finds the voices amusing."

Loki was looking at Eddie critically and Tony kept himself not so subtly in the middle again.

"Well, you see, Lokester here just ran into Goosey-Loosey, which made me realise that introductions might be in order."

Eddie was however quite distracted by Drest.

"Tony. Are you quite aware there is a giant fucking Panther head butting you right now?"

"That's Drest."

"No, Drest is a kitten."

"Didn't I mention Drest can change her size to whatever she wants?"

He was sure he'd mentioned that.

"Nope, I would have remembered if you told me the kitten that sleeps on my chest could eat my head in one bite."

"Really Eddie?"

"Okay, fair point. So, what's the deal?"

Tony turned back to Loki, who was still holding himself carefully but had been following the conversation back and forth with amusement.

"Loki, no magicy or throwing sharp pointies, Venom is friendly."

Tony magiced up some chocolate which instantly got Eddie's attention. Tony had become Venom's chocolate dealer pretty early on after Eddie moved into the compound.

"If this is a prank, I commend you on your commitment."

"You get used to weird stuff happening around Tony. I say this as part of the weird, right, Venom, no attacking. No. You can't eat him. He's Tony's friend."

Before anyone could say anything else, Venom decided to become an active participant and Loki proved to be very adept in swearing in several interesting languages.

"Friend of Tony is Friend to Venom?"

Loki nodded minutely before turning to Tony.

"You are actually insane."

Tony opened the huge bar of chocolate before handing it over to Venom who was very happy with the offerings. Giving Loki a huge smile.

"You only just notice that Lokester?"

Undoubtedly the queen of both sass and the home, Kalapana is a black beauty with unmatched intelligence, even for a cat. While not the oldest of the Fab Four, she has been with Hoku the longest and considers herself the boss. While Hoku loves all her cats, she and Pana have a special bond.

No one actually knows how old Thran is, not even the vet. There’s something ancient about this majestic looking cat, backed by the fact that Hoku came across him one day in the woods, sitting on a stump as though it were a throne. It was an odd situation in that it wasn’t exactly Hoku who chose Thran- he simply followed her home and hasn’t left. Her favorite armchair has replaced the tree stump. 

Don’t let Momo’s massive size fool you- he’s just as fast as his siblings, but why run when you can sleep in front of the fireplace? His natural state is on his back, belly up, and he can usually be found in the kitchen, which is considered his domain. A gentle giant, he loves tummy rubs and children because they love petting him.

While technically not a kitten, Tiggy is by far the smallest of the Fab Four- smaller than even Kalapana -but like Momo, don’t let her size, in this case, tiny, fool you. Tiggy’s personality is larger than even Momo’s appetite. Extremely affectionate and curious to the point of recklessness, Tiggy is the go-to cat when you want a cuddle.

Kitten is feeling ever so slightly more at home, and by that I mean she’s no longer cowering at the back of the crate, but she also hasn’t shown a lot of interest in getting out. Whenever I open the door she opens her mouth as if she wants to hiss, and then immediately rolls over and purrs like crazy. I have an appointment set up Thursday morning to take her to the vet and make sure she’s healthy (and hopefully find out if she’s indeed a her!). The internet says that 80% of orange cats are boys, but I’m hoping this one’s in the 20%. Lucifur Maverick is a cool name, but Alley Cat Benetar is more fitting and also keeps the “A” sound theme my house has going on already with Ann, Eowyn (pronounced A-Oh-When, for those not in the LOTR fandom), and Arwen.

If she isn’t a she, I’m not completely married to Lucifur Maverick for the name. I may mix it up to get some Marvel in there, maybe Goose or Flerkin.

Right now I’ve got the crate in the bathroom since that’s the only room that can be closed off without really inconveniencing anyone, plus it gives both existing pets easy sniffing access. Arwen isn’t sure about the new arrival, I think she’s jealous she’s the only non-blonde in the house, and Eowyn isn’t sure what Arwen’s doing staring at the bathroom. I feel bad leaving her in the crate three more days, but I’d feel way worse if I let her out and something happened to her, Arwen, or Eowyn. I may let her out of the crate to explore the bathroom alone and start on litter box training, but I do want to wait until the vet signs off before I let them all mingle.

I’ve never had a kitten, or a puppy, before. Arwen was supposedly four months when she came to live with me, though her previous owner and I both assume she was a little older than that. All my dogs have been at least year before I got them. I’m pretty nervous about the litter training, not to mention keeping her from chewing and scratching on things like my brand new sofa. But I’m definitely excited for more kitty cuddles!
