Why Percy Jackson is a transfem character and always has been
So!!Obligatory 'i'm a trans man,not a trans woman' disclaimer but this analysis is based purely off 1.Percy's canon personality, relathionships and story and 2.Irl transfeminine experiences that i know a lot about thanks to having a lot of transfem friends.Said friends have also listened to my reasoning behind tgirl Percy and agreed with me if not having the hc for her already and every other transfem Pjo fan i've seen i don't personally know also say her narrative is trans woman's one too and they always understand Percy's characterization better than anyone else in the fandom(certainly better than 'himbo/malewife/babygirl-coded/slutty bisexual Percy' believers)and as a Percy kinnie it's been the take that's felt most correct to me ever since i first read Pjo,10 years ago much,MUCH before i even realized i'm queer. So with that, let's dive into why Percy is a girl quasi-canonically,including that Rick Riordan has refered to her as straight but never cis!
Trigger warnings:Misogyny, child abuse, ableism,Luke's canon pedophillia and grooming with an alluding to how it applies to Percy being female(that is not dived into!),a slang word for pedophile that's used as an insult to P*rcicos potrayal of her and internalized transmisogyny
Percy's personality
Now,as i've said before,Percy's not all that actually gendered as male-Meaning,none of her attitude or behavior or interests are masculine and are misenterpreted as such due to misogyny and gender essentialism.Percy has poor social skills, anger issues, merciless tendencies,a strong sense of justice,self-worth problems,a very odd sense of humor that always lands and respects women to the point of thinking they're better than men and none of these are gendered traits but a mix of audhd-dyslexia and trauma. The last one is arguably actually a girl thing even if there's an in-universe reason for it(good mom, deadbeat birth dad, abusive stepdad, most antagonists being older men in power and the first older person she thought she could trust was just manipulating her)
Percy also frequently complains about having to act like a stereotypical guy to have to fit into society's standards because naturally, she's just not-She's completely unconvential even amongst 'other male' demigods and this is reguarly commented on.In fact, there's a whole plot in Titan's Curse of her proving to the Hunters that she's NOT a normal 'man' and it's a huge thing that's reinforced as true the whole franchise!Zoe was right about cis men being ass and that's not 'r*dical feminism' and ngl a lot of y'all are telling on yourselves because she never talked about biology in her misandry, especially because Zoe appears to be around the same age as Thalia physically and mentally so it's super icky to throw t*rf accusations at her because she's traumatized by ancient greek men,one of the worst kinds of men ever! And Percy's totally unlike them despite being amab and identifying male not because 'not all men' but because she's actually a woman
This is a direct contrast to how she talks about and interacts with other girls-Almost every female character earns her worship on first meeting, even if she dosen't like them as people. She puts a heavy emphasis on them being girls in her narration and some dialogue too and her descriptions of them are so admirative they come as envious with her own insecurities in her looks.Percy is severely lacking in any kind of masculinity and Piper even pointed this out based on her vibes alone after hearing all about her at camp and thinking she'd be a macho man based off how people talk about her and i'm unsure if this is a common phenomenom but i frequently see and hear people say daughters tend to look like girl versions of their dad's and Percy is said to be identical to Poseidon but with softer features and the idea Percy should tie herself to masculinity due to it being expected of amabs is contradictory to canon's messages in addition to it's irl sexist implications and the sea is frequently associated with femininity(mermaids and sirens, calling ships 'she',pearl jewelry, the term 'Beach Bunny',the moon controlling the tides, etc)
And small final note:The rock music scene is filled with transfemmes and has been for a long time and while blue things are usually associated with boys,it was Percy's mom who got her to love them
Percy's relathionships
Almost all of Percy's friends growing up were girls-Annabeth,Silena,Thalia,Bianca,Zoe,Clarisse and Rachel vs just Grover,Beckendorf and Nico. She thinks The Stolls are annoying as shit with their 'boys will be boys' beat and she hates male gods on sight and implies she finds them being super conventionally attractive to be offputting instead of appealing.Nico had a crush on her until they got closer and realized she's not an ideal man like he thought she was and therefore 'cute but not his type'(I have no opinion on Solangelo but i got beef with the shippers for making this about blonde hair and blue eyes instead of transfem Percy, especially the trope of Percy acting like a kiddy fiddler over what Nico said as a joke)and she takes responsibility of him post Bianca's death and Nico exclusively wishes for older sister figures, never old brother ones
Percy and Rachel is a classic irl dynamic between transfems and their afab friends:Dating to exes to even closer friends.Rachel is a pretty typical lesbian if we're applying irl wlw things too and Annabeth is clearly a huge lesbian-Like seriously, she only ever showed attraction to Luke and Percy and Luke was comphet in her words('You were like a brother to me but i never loved you')and lesbians experiencing attraction to uncracked eggs is semi-common and she's got tons of subtext with Piper and Reyna and shows a strong distaste for the expectations of cisheterosexual womanhood, mainly femininity.Reyna is yet another comphet lesbian-coded who was into Percy.Clarisse, textually butch, calls her 'Prissy' and Piper, canon unlabeled sapphic and gnc, described her as not masc enough for her taste
Percy's relathionships to older male characters combined with her transfemininity, youth and constantly being described as 'other' from ordinary half-bloods by them function with no need for change as a potrayal to how corrupted men in power treat girls-Not women, underaged girls as Percy is 12 at the start and 18 now and we've yet to get interactions with her and male gods in the current canon timeline so all their abuse of her and innapropriate undertones in their behavior towards her were when she was underaged. This includes but is not limited to:Ares' condesension and (non-sexual) assaults,Apollo's very possible constant flirting that would definitely be textual if Percy was intended as a girl by Rick seeing as Apollo had no problem hitting on the Hunters and Reyna and her entire relathionship with Luke.Luke is canonically a serial pedophile, implied to sleep with Kelli and a raging misogynist and Percy was one of the first victim's of his gaslighting and he tried to kill her after framing her his crime against the gods in an isolated area they'd been alone in together a lot and widely noted to have accidentally been writen flirting with her throught the series by the fandom so i can't help but take Luke.rcy as a male explotation and grooming narrative
Artemis,an archaic symbol of lesbians, loves Percy and considers her above any man.Aphrodite gave Percy advice on her looks by saying everyone deserves to feel perfect in their skin to achive true perfect beauty.Persephone, one of the og csa narratives, said she likes Percy because she's 'brave' with the implication being that again, she can tell Percy is different from usual 'male' half-bloods.Hera is the goddess of traditional marriage and holds a violent resentment towards Percy for disrupting the system.Percy at her core is meant to come across as like a male god but not actually being one and actively not wanting to become one out of hate for authority and traditionality
And another small final note to a section:Frank is trans man-coded(his arc is about being emasculated and saying 'fuck you!' by making his own manhood and Mars' blessing is explicitly compared to testosterone and gives him a huge confidence boost)and they're paralleled as fundamentally similar yet also fundamentally different,Nico and her act like an eldest daughter and a middle brother where she's a pseudo-mom to him and queer siblings and Jason falls under transmasc norms(the ex-wolfkid thing, positive and healthy masculinity, creating a new self after loosing his old idealized one and Team Dad)and instantly became Percy's best friend and is her complimentary foil and 'counterpart' so transmasc4transfem realness
Percy's story(and how it all comes together and would've been improved by canonizing her as a trans woman)
Percy Jackson means 'Outcast who looks out for other outcasts'.She's so unique as a character because she was and is still genuinely a huge weirdo, not just nonhuman, she is human even if it's only half-That's only half of who she is(She's totally a Gwen Stacy variant btw).Being a trans girl would do nothing but enchance her core aspects but also work as a fixit to various canon writing problems!
Percy is femme so that'd give us positive girly girl rep to make up for all the pick me feminism.Annabeth'd have no reason to lash out and give her mixed signals since she's not a boy so their dynamic is improved.Nico's crush fades upon finding out she's a girl so they become best friends and found siblings like they were always meant and wanted to.It causes shifts in the plot that bring a bigger focus on the girlhood aspects of Greek Mythology seperate from romance retellings and a much needed change too:Percy as the hero of the Great Prophecy.Luke was a raging misogynist,a racist,a child groomer,a fucking pedophile and an entire fascist who lied about revolution to ruin society instead of fixing the system.Percy is a lifelong punk,an anarchist and a proffessional instigator and was trying to stop Luke's fuckery from 12 to 16-She's the greatest greco-roman hero ever.TGP was operating on Ancient Greek logic but Pjo isn't Ancient Greece,it's Percy's story-How she forced the gods to change with no choice by SHOWING how much stronger and more etheral she is than them
BUT WAIT,THERE'S ONE MORE FINAL NOTE!!!!!Percy would be a million times happier as a trans femme than as a cis man.She gets to transition and not have to be an ordinary male she's NOT so she starts loving and accepting herself way more as she changes into who she wants and deserves to be and we should all want that for her too.The truth is she's nothing like Hercules, she's unimpressive as a man,Nico believed she was a real male hero but she failed at being a performance of it based off what he knew of men and now they're cool and he thinks Percy's cute but not like that, she thinks aggressively male men are wicked and not all that handsome,Rachel made her feel normal because she's not a normal girl (either),Annabeth has princess hair and had a makeover at a magic spa and she strikes fear into hearts in a way only girls and she wants all that too,she also wanted to be treated like Thalia so bad,Jason is the Superman she's been waiting for her whole life
She's the mom to Nico and Hazel Sally was to her, she's a rocker chick, she was on the swim team in high school and went to protests and did charity events with that frizzy neurotic girl she's attached to the hip with, she loves burgers and desserts, she's got streaked hair, she uses 2000s and 90s slang completely unironically and she just wants people to think she's normal but still get to be herself. The sea does not like to be restrained

ngl it makes me super nervous that SJM is reposting so much about the Spring court considering Elain’s book is probably next.
Hey, it’s okay to feel nervous. 💕 If you’re looking for reassurance, let me just say that the stories she shared felt like obligatory social media engagement to me. If it did mean anything (which I truly doubt), it would be that the third sister—like both her sisters in their own stories—is going to visit other courts, including Spring. The plot that was set up is clearly broader than a single court (Wyrd and her sacred peaks). Elain can be an important member of the Night Court and travel to many different places like every other member of her family. Travel to the Spring Court does not determine her endgame (and as an aside, there’s something about a demon in spring that really appeals to me).
If Elain does visit Spring, it could relate to that broader plot thread. That’s where Feyre first learned about the origins of Prythian and how she thought to cup her hands to heal Wyrd’s physical form (the Cauldron). Could Elain understand the language of creation (wyrdmarks) on the mural?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And will the starlight pool that echoes Wyrd’s sparkling light in the mural come back into play? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it reminds me of the thread of Hope Feyre and Elain learned about in acofas and Wyrd’s original powers (pure, blossoming life).

There’s a reason Elain’s scent is a promise of spring, a sparkling river that her sister followed. And while, yes, the mysterious Lady of Spring is a beloved headcanon of mine, it makes much more sense for those hints to be connected to Wyrd and the larger story that has emerged.

Hello! How are you? I love your writings and ideas, but I have a question about your "Danny is Jason" AU. I know they're now on the uncanny valley scenario, but I just had to ask if you know about a character called Danny Todd, Jason's older brother, and if you're going to mention him somewhere in your ideia because of the angst of it all
(and because my brainworms were like what if it's because of Danny Todd that Danny-Jason doesn't like to be called Danny in Gotham and asks Dick not to call him that?)
(obligatory English is not my first language and I haven't slept in two days so I don't really know how to word)
i actually do know who danny todd is, but thank you for telling me about him anyways! i totally forgot about him ngl, but you're totally right the angst potential be great. My first thought was the DC Jason finding about the Thing following Danny and realizing that no matter what name he uses, he's still doomed to die no matter what. The sword of Damocles is always swinging :)
And ooo! I like that, that he doesn't wanna be called Danny in Gotham because of his brother. It can be a combination of that and him also holding onto his prior identity as Jason Todd, because he's never really felt like a Danny Fenton.
(Also no worries about your english! It was fine!)

This is my obligatory movie review post.
And it was fine! I enjoyed watching it, the visuals were stunning, I liked most of the songs... my time wasn't wasted. But it wasn't... great.
Let's get the good stuff out of the way first.
I like Gabriel's arc in this movie. He's clearly not an abusive asshole like he is in the show, and it's pretty clear he's distant from Adrien because of his grief, not because he's an abusive controlling jackass. It really hammers in that he's deeply regretful about what he's doing once he finds out it's his son, unlike show Gabe who beat his own son up after finding out he was Chat Noir.
Marinette was really great in this movie. I like her character here and how she's finding out who she is and what she wants to do, and is learning to be more confident in herself. It works well without the large plot points in the show.
I like the songs. This seems to be a controversial opinion for some reason. But I like them. Gabe's villain song is the best song fight me.
Again, the visuals? Beautiful. Everything looked amazing and everyone was so pretty.
The villains were entertaining.
The scenes with Marinette being embarrassed by her dad were fun. It didn't really go anywhere as a plot point, and they should have done more with it, but I liked the idea.
I like how the movie gave Tikki some more character. Her excitement about adventure and her desire for danger? Love it. She's an adrenaline junkie and I'm here for it.
Master Fu works so much better as a cryptic, mysterious old man who just pops up out of nowhere to be funny and weird than as the shitty mentor he was in the show who we were supposed to take seriously. I actually enjoy his character here.
It was nice of them to show Luka going to the same school as everyone else lol.
I love movie Nino so much you guys.
LADYNOIR
But seriously, that Ladynoir song? Love it. I'm going to rewatch it over and over. Ladynoir won this movie.
But that being said, there are plenty of flaws too.
It was so rushed. Like, super rushed. Everyone just went from 0 to 180 real quick. It started out at a nice pace, but then it all just felt like they were crossing out bullet points on their notepads without taking the time to flesh things out.
The rules for the Miraculous are so inconsistent and vague. I don't actually mind this that much, but it's still kind of annoying.
Adrien doesn't have much going for him in this movie. It's still better than the show in that he actually got to confront Gabriel and take part in the final battle, but other than that, he didn't have much of an arc. It could have been better if they showed more interactions between him and Ladybug, but he went straight from being annoyed by her to being in love with her, and a montage isn't really enough for development. His arc had a good start and a good end but very little in between, so it didn't work all that well. It's not even clear why he was chosen for the Miraculous. We also didn't actually get that much between him and Gabe, so the ending moment between them kind of fell flat for me. But it was still pretty emotional.
This is also the case for Adrienette. The way Marinette met him wasn't as impactful as in the show, and there was little to no development between them. It would have felt more realistic for Marinette to like him if we had gotten to see them interact more. They could have showed him telling her about his mother in an actual scene rather than shoving it into a montage. As it is, it feels like she just likes him for his pretty face.
They should have let Christina Vee sing the songs. The person who sings for Marinette has a lovely voice and I do think her voice works well in the songs, but it's so jarring to go from Christina's voice to hers. They aren't similar in the slightest. It was better for Adrien.
The final battle was pretty anticlimactic ngl. Part of it is because of the rushed character arcs, and that made the payoff less impactful. But other than, it was still kind of low key. I enjoyed the battle in that Carnival better.
No iconic Miraculous Ladybug! No Lucky Charm.
Plagg. Plagg. PLAGG. PLAGG. They massacred my boy. His only personality is cheese and farting. Like, he's farting constantly. His bond with Adrien was non-existent. This is easily the worst part of the movie. I hate it. I hate it so much.
They ruined Plagg.
They ruined Plagg.
...Watermelon??
They ruined Plagg.
And yeah, that's about it!
All in all, it's a good experience. It's fun and enjoyable, the characters are nice. They are pretty different from their show versions. Especially Adrien, who's more about not getting close to anyone because he lost his mom in the movie, when his show version was about breaking free from his isolation and wanting to connect with others. But obviously, this is a different canon on its own and wants to show a different interpretation of the characters. It's alright.
It definitely has a lot of flaws, but also a lot of good points. Just like the show. I wouldn't say I like the movie more than the show. It's good for what it is, but I still prefer the characters and dynamics as they were in the series. Which is not to say that no one else should like the movie better, it's just not for me. I don't think they are really comparable anyway, because a movie is very different from a series.
For me, the thing is, I really love the show. And that's why Season 5 pissed me off so much. Because I love the show and it disappointed me. I wouldn't waste my energy on it so much if I didn't like it. And I did like the movie, but it didn't really have that spark for me that brought me into the show. Even if I despise many of the writing choices that the show has made over the years, I still like a lot about it. So my preference will always be for the show. But that doesn't mean the movie is bad, and I still did enjoy it.
Also, I like show Gabe (before the Season 5 finale) as an antagonist better than movie Gabe. He's a piece of trash and a waste of oxygen but he was a pretty well written antagonist when he was allowed to do stuff. Movie Gabe suffers from the same problem of his arc being underdeveloped and rushed, even if his personality is an improvement from show Gabe.
Anyway, movie was good. The last scene with Nathalie and Emilie looks like its hinting to a sequel, but that won't be coming out anytime soon, so we'll see.

MotR impressions after 18 hours/3 playthroughs (pretty negative, ngl)
on my first playthrough i admittedly mostly faffed about with whatever seemed interesting. ended up getting the parliament ending, but since characters were still pushing me to investigate the murder before the trial i ended up wasting a bunch of time on that which turned out to be completely pointless.
i never really felt like there was a good time to put everything else on hold to pursue romance, but since i knew the game was supposed to go through three 'seasons', i figured i could put it off until after the trial. this was incorrect, the trial is the end of the game and the third 'season' is just the ending of the playthrough. technically i got AN ending on this playthrough, but it felt pretty hollow since i still had no real clues about the murder nor managed to squeeze in any romance or even close friendship. even despite spending a decent amount of time with Griz on achieving the parliament ending, as far as the game was concerned we seemed to be little more than strangers, presumably because stupid me didn't devote any of my limited time to spending time with her solely for relationship-building.
second playthrough, i thought ok, this time i'll have a romance in mind, i'll just pick up the parliament ending again and then devote the rest of my time to flirting with Mr Pages.
i didn't really want to have to express interest in it to Griz's face immediately after the first meeting where it barely says anything, but in my first playthrough i don't recall ever getting a second chance to express interest, so i guess that was obligatory. so that was already starting out feeling weird and like the game was demanding i express interest before giving me any reason for my character to have any.
spent a decent portion of the playthrough gathering censuses and turning them in in batches of 2-3, mostly ignoring sidequests and the murder mystery (since i knew doing the parliament quest would bypass it). none of my interactions with Pages felt like there was any natural building of closeness or an interest forming, so despite the constant insistent popping up of the generic menu for defining your exact kind of interest i was hesitant to assert that my character was already in love -
(and i also didn't fully understand that this was solely a menu for defining what options you want available for the character - i thought 'decide to kiss Mr Pages' meant, you know, that my character would try to kiss it right then and there? not that that would simply unlock a future option to try? i fucking hated this intrusive pseudo-ic menu to be honest, immensely disruptive to have Mr Pages tell my character that it was only indulging this romance as an experiment with love stories immediately followed by this FUCKING menu popping up and my eyes falling on the option 'decide to marry Mr Pages'. REALLY? as if the complete lack of internal narration or continuation of that scene didn't already make my character feel like an automaton with no interiority whatsoever, this gameplay menu with its utterly generic options inexplicably masquerading as an in-character prompt really was the final nail in any tension or immersion in this "romance" that i might have deluded myself into feeling)
- getting back to the point above, nothing in the generic "pursue your romance with Pages" scenes ever felt like a natural point to escalate the relationship, so possibly i was a bit slow in pushing the "romance" along, because i didn't even end up getting the Vake-at-your-window scene until the last day of the game, and the ending at the feast didn't even give me the option to talk to Pages, so. once again, ended up getting the exact same ending with no close character relationships.
starting my third playthrough i was, ngl, pretty frustrated. at this point i just went all in on Pages, turning in every new census i got to maximize my scenes with it. once again, i never felt like there was any point where i honestly believed that there were feelings developing between my character and Mr Pages, i just pushed those buttons in that behated relationship-defining menu and suddenly Mr Pages was calling my characters its pet or whatever. cute, but the lack of any emotional buildup or sense of progression just made it feel completely hollow. the kissing scene, the brief fetish gear bat sex quest and the Veils scene were literally the only glimmers of interest in this whole "romance", with the rest of the time spent with Mr Pages feeling like nothing so much as those parts in persona games where you spend time with a social link but don't have enough relationship built up to get the next real scene, so the game just briefly shows the characters chatting somewhere with some variation of "you spent some time with x."
bored. i spent most of this playthrough bored. i never at any point felt like either of these characters so much as liked each other. in fact they barely felt like more than strangers. ostensibly they ended the playthrough in a relationship. the epilogue made no mention of how things may turn out in the future. maybe Veils ate them both off screen and put them out of their misery.
speaking of Veils, was there supposed to be any followup after reporting its appearance at your window to Pages? it just seemed to be abruptly dropped, which was a shame since, again, it was about the only interesting thing to happen.
i also noticed that, by prioritizing spending romantic time with Pages (which you always do alone with it) i never got to see any of the scenes with Griz that actually show some insight into its personality or relationship with the other Masters, like confronting it about things like the drownies. is that really how it's supposed to be? having to choose BETWEEN romancing a character and actually getting to know it in any meaningful way? make it make sense.
at this point i feel like i haven't had a single playthrough that left me feeling satisfied and like my character got to experience a complete story, so i don't know. maybe Mr Pages' romance is just uniquely bad. maybe you're not actually supposed to want any romance in this ostensible romance game and i should just be pursuing the plot. maybe there is a way to have a fun and satisfying run of this game, but then how, why, is it that after three playthroughs, i still feel that i don't know how i'm supposed to achieve that?

noctyx 2.0 is real and every second you aren't running they're getting closer
but i had such a busY WEEK AND I DIDN'T GET TO MAKE A PREDICTION POST OR REACT OR SEE THEM LIVE AAAUUUUUUGGGGGGHHH
but a very lovely message inspired me to write down my thoughts anyways so here, i'll post what i expected/predicted first, then reactions to the actual outfits under the cut
dude i knew in my heart sonny was wearing a baseball cap with that smooth ass head but in my SOUL i was hoping for, get this, a biker helmet and matching motorcyclist-themed fit. that would be sooooo sick. with a leather jacket (toggle?) and ripped jeans and everything. oh, about how one shoulder is a little higher than the other? i thought he did that thing where you take the jacket entirely off, but sling it around your shoulder
uki mamaaaaa... i thought the little chain was a drop earring ngl. and that he had a hair bow for the ponytail, and one of those classy, flouncy blouses. ever since the first few weeks of noctyx where uki solidified himself as a graceful, elegant kind of guy i've been rooting for a classy fit and i really felt that energy with this silhouette, though to be honest, i did imagine the blouse to be really ruffled like a pirate shirt
i am proud to say i didn't buy fulgur's silhouette for a second. nah-uh dude you can't fool me, the ms paint guy. i recognize a round brush when i see one and i damn well recognized a round brush when i saw it. plus when i zoomed in and saw all those little gaps? nah dude. i'm also mad proud to say that i knew before he posted the real silhouette that it was to obscure longer hair, but it definitely wasn't a 404 fit. his hair would be longer and more unkempt if it was. but aside from that i had no clue what to expect lol
and speaking of zero clues, alban.. literally had no idea of what to think. no idea where to start, either, because his silhouette was so versatile. i remember thinking that following the theme where luxiem 2.0 is based on their pasts, then it would make sense if noctyx 2.0 followed a theme of their future endeavors/more detailed outfits based on their occupations, right? the only details i really gleaned were the straps on his shoulders, and honestly i thought it was a bulletproof vest, or some kinda techwear gear
actual outfit reactions under the cut
so a funny side story while the outfit relay was running, i was at a concert. it was a small lil' outdoor bar type venue full of sweaty bodies packed like sardines, thrashing around to trip hop and noise rap until 1 am and everyone's toes turned black from getting stepped on. there were like four different artists performing before the headliner i was looking forward to the most, and when sonny's relay was going on, the first band had just finished, this noisy distorted group playing along to a rapper shouting along, something a guillotine-by-death-grips enjoyer would froth at the mouth for. once they left the stage and i checked twitter to see the livetweets i was just thinking "this is what he [taichou] would've wanted"
anyways. it was hilarious because the second i clocked sonny's new hair i called him a wet ass dog. it's true. he looks like he crawled out of a dunk tank AAAAAHAHAHAHA it's growing on me, though. the links on his cap are adorble, i love that and the negi. and the water bottle! omizu, those little references with the acessories were easily my favorite part! the fit is really simple so those little details really made it shine, including the quilted texture on the shoes, and the shadow over his eyes when he wears the hat… you know… it’s a good outfit… but it’s just… i can’t help but feel
(also obligatory disclaimer that i’ve only found the time to watch sonny’s stream entirely, and i’m 7 min into uki’s, so let me know if i missed some context. i’m a clips champion at heart.)
i knew uki would be beautiful but i loooove how effortlessly beautiful he is in this one. it's giving me vibes like you impulsively decided to turn up at his door and then spent the rest of the day just comfortably hanging out all chill and calm. his slippers are so adorbs i know how he integrated the stargazers into the fit just like that, and his hair is so pretty when it’s long! he really is uki mama now! and the color is lighter, so i have two headcanons: either it’s dyed and slowly fading out… or he’s so old he’s graying LMAOOOOOO
fuuchan turning up to the outfit reveal no tease no prelude just apple is easily the most on-brand fuuchan thing i’ve seen. happy father’s day to fuuchan and his pink shirt, i SWEAR every dad worth his salt has a pink shirt in that same exact color. megane fuu is so important! i’m so glad this is a thing now it suits his fit and his personality so well! love the legatus motif on the shoes and the buckle too
i guess i’m not really allowed to say i was pleasantly surprised by alban since i didn’t have any expectations. but i was pleasantly surprised! he’s so darling! and all his toggles go so hard! he’s very boy next door, i love the little ripped jean details especially on his jeans! and it’s very versatile, especially when you consider his 1.0 too. he’s so cute. i’m so glad we embraced the konbini thing it’s so important

Episode 11 Thoughts
Spoilers for TBB Season 2
It is day 873 without Echo and I am not thriving. 🤧
We unfortunately did not get the Rex and Echo centric episode that I was hoping for, but I still really liked this episode. So obligatory "I miss Echo" bit aside for now, let's get into it!
Mysterious smoky ship. Interesting. 🤔
Aside from the little electrical zaps, the first few seconds is very monochrome. I kind of love it.
Horror(ish) elements coming through very early on!
MOUNT TANTISS
Dr Hemlock!
Okay, so the hemlock people were right. Dr Parsnip would've been kinda funny though. 🤣
Ngl, the way they were hiding his face, I thought that there was going to be something about his face worth hiding.
There wasn't.
Unless Dr Hemlock is someone that's been sent before? 🤔 I don't remember anyone by that name. 😅
Nala Sé has appeared!
Omg Cid is such a bitch. 🤬
JUST DITCH HER!
Wrecker nodding along to each percentage then seeing Hunter's unimpressed look and going into angry mode. 😭
Interesting to see Omega, who has always been the first to help Cid, turning as well.
I get very stressed when Tech goes off by himself somewhere. He's already broken a leg this season. 😬
Tech wouldn't have to go off by himself if Echo was here. 🥲
The squad feels so empty without Echo and Cross. 😭
This episode is spooky. I like it!
There was me thinking it was a weird Zillo hybrid. Turns out that's just what small Zillobeasts look like.
Saying that, THE ZILLOBEAST IS BACK!!!
Completely forgot we got a glimpse of it in the trailer. 🤣
Tech looks so adorable. 🥰
Another Omega and Tech team up!!!
There is a lot of Hunter piloting the Marauder this season.
Omega being a little nerd is so personal to me. Science girlies rise!!!
Although I guess it was less of a choice for her. 🥲
But she's a smart bean and I love her.
HOW QUICKLY IS THAT THING GROWING?!
FORGET INDESTRUCTIBLE ARMOUR DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT COULD MEAN FOR SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERIES
RAPID CELL DIVISION = POSSIBILITIES OF FINDING NEW THINGS FOR ANTI CANCER RESEARCH AND-
I'm getting ahead of myself. Oops. 😅
Although I will say this...
HOW??? I know it's Star Wars but that thing grows that quickly off energy??? What???
I just realised I forgot to mention the arm from earlier.
Yeah... the arm hanging out of the mouth.
Ew.
Anyway back to where we were! 🤣
Omega having to turn off the machines so that Tech will actually leave. 🤣
Zillibeast laser? Interesting. 🤔
Is that likely a giant bacta tank or just a random fluids container?
These poor people just lost all their electricity because of the zillobeast and now they're being forced to leave?!
I feel so bad for them. 😭
So many Commandos this episode. 🤨
I just love Wrecker leaning on things with his arms crossed. 🥰
I wanna give that man a hug.
He would give good hugs.
ECHO AND REX MENTION!!!
We have to be seeing those boys soon. Come on. 🥲
They're definitely all still in touch with each other though which makes me happy. 🥰
Is that Scorch?
Suspected that Lama Su would still be alive!
NOPE NOPE NOPETY NOPE NOPE NOPE
WE ARE NOT GOING AFTER OMEGA
NOPE
Anyway, overall thoughts are that I really liked this episode! The spooky vibes were really fun and I was glad to see some more of the zillobeast!
Felt like a pretty even split of dialogue across the Batchers today, and we got some new characters as well. I think it was well balanced! Not the Echo and Rex episode I was hoping for, but still very enjoyable. 😄
BUT NEXT EPISODE IS A CROSSHAIR EPISODE AND I CAN'T WAIT!!! I MISS THAT GRUMPY TOOTHPICK SO MUCH!
Anyway, I'm gonna have to disappear for a few hours while I avoid Mando spoilers 😅, but I can't wait to see what everyone thinks of the episode later!

Film Class Rankings
Finally, after 4.5 months of my film class, it is over and the rankings are out! (Long list ahead)
First, my class's ranking:
Top Gun: Maverick (2022), Joseph Kosinski
Inception (2010), Christopher Nolan
Jurassic Park (1993), Steven Spielberg
Black Panther (2018), Ryan Coogler
Jaws (1975), Steven Spielberg
The Killing (1956), Stanley Kubrick
The Third Man (1949), Carol Reed
Arrival (2016), Denis Villeneuve
Rear Window (1954), Alfred Hitchcock
High Noon (1952), Fred Zinnemann
All The President's Men (1976), Alan J. Pakula
Vertigo (1958), Alfred Hitchcock
Casablanca (1942), Michael Curtiz
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Stanley Kubrick
Maltese Falcon (1941), John Huston
Citizen Kane (1941), Orson Welles
I personally did not care for the majority of their placements... after some deliberation I decided to place the movies based on my own personal enjoyment of them rather than how good of films they were.
I sorted them into 3 categories:
Liked: Black Panther, 3rd Man, Arrival, Rear Window, All the President's Men
Eh: High Noon, Space Odyssey, Maltese Falcon, Citizen Kane, Top Gun, Vertigo, Jaws
No: Jurassic Park, inception, the killing, casablanca
And here was the final ranking:
Arrival (2016), Denis Villeneuve
All The President's Men (1976), Alan J. Pakula
Black Panther (2018), Ryan Coogler
Rear Window (1954), Alfred Hitchcock
The Third Man (1949), Carol Reed
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Stanley Kubrick
Top Gun: Maverick (2022) , Joseph Kosinski
High Noon (1952), Fred Zinnemann
Jaws (1975), Steven Spielberg
Citizen Kane (1941), Orson Welles
Maltese Falcon (1941), John Huston
Vertigo (1958), Alfred Hitchcock
Inception (2010), Christopher Nolan
Casablanca (1942), Michael Curtiz
Jurassic Park (1993), Steven Spielberg
The Killing (1956), Stanley Kubrick
1-2 I was deciding between All the Prez and Arrival for the top spot, but even though I liked Prez's plot better, I think that Arrival was good in pretty much every category and had the best parts of Inception and Jurassic Park, with the cool shots of Vertigo. It's also the only one with a female mc? What's with that
3. Black panther's a good movie and has nice visuals, but I've already seen it before and it's the kind of movie I'd probably only want to watch once.
4. I liked the concept, and it was very colorful. Character wise it's not the greatest, but I still maintain that Rear Window with the characters of Saw would be the greatest thing ever... Also I liked Grace Kelly's outfits. She had some great (and a few less great) styles.
5. 3rd man. I think the score could've been better, but I liked the characters, plot, and setting. Also it's the only one on the list directed by a woman? How'd I not notice that. It's also one of the few with an interesting female main character so.. go figure.
6. Plot and character wise... I didn't really know what was going on at the end, and the other parts weren't super interesting. It was super beautiful though! I felt like I was watching an art piece or one of those no word heavy detailed picture books. Music not bad, and points for managing to look movie poster ready in the majority of scenes
7. Top gun was pretty good. I haven't seen the original, but it kind of made me think of those family spy movies or suicide squad, if they were members of the military and not utterly despised. I was wondering if Iceman had a thing for him, and then found out that people had been thinking similar things in the first movie too. So props for consistency. It's hard to make good sequels.
8. I don't care for Westerns, but I actually liked this alright. Also it's short. Space Odyssey was so long that everyone was snoozing at parts, but this one was just a drama about a guy and his lackluster relationships. Also ngl Gary Cooper in that movie kind of looked like the police chief from the Arcane series, so that made my day.
9. Not much for sharks or the ocean, but it wasn't bad. They got the obligatory team bonding and tragic backstories, random kids whose purpose is only to be cute/innocent and/or a martyr, the mysterious crazy old guy, and the good old state of Massachusetts. I probably like it more than I would Moby Dick if I ever got around to reading it. Would consider watching again.
10. Citizen Kane wasn't bad to look at, and plot was pretty straightforward. I guess it's sort of funny if not sad to hear all this guy's associates rag on him after death, but I thought it was interesting. The 2nd wife was my favorite character.
11. Best character was the secretary. Kind of sad how a lot of these movies are clearly written by people who don't like/understand women, but they still often end up being the best characters. Anyway the movie was pretty dull, but it really turned around in the last 20 or so minutes. Went from being 30 to 100. It also had one of the greatest movie endings I've seen, even outside of this class, that completely turned around my opinion of it.
12. I really wanted to like this movie. It had nice visuals, I liked his ex, and the plot seemed interesting. And then it turned scifi and weird, and then just went kind of gross and disturbing. And then it had this random goofy bit and the worst transition ever, to finally making sense and being interesting again. And then it had a terrible ending and I was not pleased. I give it points for a lot of things- great visual, interesting story, and it created some interesting special effects. The plot kept me guessing and I seriously had bo idea what was actually going on into the movie slapped me in the face with the answer.
13. I didn't like this movie. I like Elliot Page, but I didn't think the acting was that good (DiCaprio was ok, and Saito was fine). The plot was confusing, keeping track of characters was difficult, and I didn't really care about any of them (with the exception of Saito). I pretty much understood everything by the end (honestly, a lot of the dialogue I just couldn't hear because the teacher wouldn't put on subtitles, so that could be a factor). I also didn't know most of the characters' names throughout the movie so I had to give them nicknames.
14. Visuals were eh, the music was fine when they weren't playing that BLASTED SONG, and I hated the love interest. She has the perfect man who she wants to break the heart of and hurt the war effort, just so she can get with her ex that she didn't even know all that well? More than that, she brought out the worst in him. Love ought to make people better, or happier, or something. Hers just made him act scummy. I also don't know if he really just left his friend/employee? To run off into the sunset with a nazi? Speaking of bad endings, what was that? I'm all for gay subtext but what exactly were they going for. Plus Louis was the most interesting character to watch, and again, he's a nazi. I just found it a little odd. (I also liked Victor but they barely gave him any screentime. Did him super dirty)
15. I don't like dinosaurs. I really don't like people stranded in the jungle and eaten by dinosaurs either. It's a personal taste I guess. Characters were eh.
16. I actually was having trouble watching. I was bored for most of it, the characters didn't really interest me (the wife, Sheryl? Did a little), and it wasn't that interesting visually. I feel like it's a more boring black and white Pulp Fiction, another movie I didn't care for. No likeable characters. Anywhere. But I do have to give it credit for having an outright gay character instead of thinly veiled like some of the others.
At the end we were supposed to give suggestions for other films to watch in the class (I had to come back later and do it cause I misunderstood the directions 😅), so here were these in no particular order.
Missing (2023), Nicholas D. Johnson + Will Merrick
Pleasantville (1998), Gary Ross
Clue (1985), Jonathan Lynn
Kill Bill (either one, I've only seen the 2nd) (2003-2004), Quentin Tarantino
Enchanted (2007), Kevin Lima
I figured it'd be a good addition for a film class since it's mostly shown through screens (camera, phone, etc). It's not the first to do this, but it's probably the best.
Movie's eh, but I like the color and black&white mixing, and its importance to the plot
it has 3 endings, and is based on a board game. It's also a cult classic, which I think makes it historic/relevant enough to discuss
We didn't watch a single martial arts movie, and this one is a mix of a few different genres. It's bright and flashy, it's well loved, and I'm pretty sure we skipped over 2000s movies anyway.
Cartoon and animation. Also it's a good movie.
Good job getting to the end😅 These were just my opinions of the movies, so sorry if any offended you. I like discussions though, so feel free to comment or disagree with any of these.

penacony pt. 1 - firefly
spoilers for honkai star rail's trailblazer story below:
I'm not a big fan of Firefly so far story-wise which is disappointing, because I love her design. Her personality is very innocent and cute, written to be sympathized with and to maximize moe value, dashed with an obligatory tragic backstory to make you go "awww". because I had seen speculations/headcanons before Penacony was released that firefly may be controlling Sam’s robo-suit, I was expecting firefly to reveal her true colors/motivation that was less “Omg I’m sorry I lied I can’t tell you everything rn but I am not totally innocent :(” and more “I like you and wish we didn’t have to be enemies but I’m going to use you before anyone else can. Sorry, but also not sorry.” (it’s still early, there are definitely more acts to the story, so I haven’t marked this possibility out yet).
but at least for the first part of the main story, the purpose for firefly is just cannon emotional fodder. Later, if she comes back, any further role she plays will probably be cheapened from this lackluster introduction. Unless she has some master plan under wraps and her cute and innocent persona was all/mostly a guise…
I do like some of the moments and cut scenes we had with firefly around Golden Hour and firefly’s dialogue about the struggles with her illness and how Penacony is an escape for her. I just wished the writers leaned more on two strangers who get caught in an adventure filled with hijinks across one of the liveliest places in the cosmos rather than playing too hard into the Lies and Truths and Who Can I Trust Here? game since I felt that that was already established with the representatives of the other factions. MC and firefly going back and forth shouldn’t have been included, maybe, or firefly could’ve been upfront and more flippant—up the ante on firefly’s admiration for the Nameless, since they also represent the freedom firefly lacks due to her condition. That would give her the trust and motivation to show MC around and take her to her secret hideout, and tbh for me MC is spacey and casual enough to go along with it. Firefly MAY be dangerous, but MC is gonna take a chance and trust her bc s/he is having fun and we’re in Penacony and on vacation and everything is so cool! And we don’t have any reason to doubt her, and it’s not like we’re divulging any secrets to her, so what’s the harm in getting to know her? I don’t think this is the first time MC blindly trusted someone either, and it’s believable for me, considering MC has “child-like innocence” (that or is sensitive to memoria or both).
Firefly could totally be honest later that she’s also looking for the Watchmaker’s Legacy, but keep the line that she doesn’t wish us to be enemies. lessen her gratitude that we “saved” her from being caught as a stowaway. Ngl I blanked out a bit during that scene, but to me it was less us and more the fact that Gallagher showed up at the right time to tell the NPCs off, so any following gushing from Firefly about how kind and helpful MC was rubbed me the wrong way (which is why I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop because I was like, this girl can’t be for real). I think we should’ve avoided that whole interaction and met Firefly in a more neutral way, and then overhear that security team is looking for a silver-haired girl (I know it was silver-haired boy in the original dialogue, which is interesting, I expected some sort of reveal with that but it hasn’t come up yet) as a stowaway, or drop other hints in our interactions w/ firefly that don’t add up rather than having Sampo/Sparkle tell us she’s suspicious to our face. but maybe we don’t connect the dots until we’re on the rooftop where firefly is like, yeah I am. (Thus skipping all the lying and apologies and whatever.)
One other nitpick: stop having other strangers in-game ship MC with people they’ve just met. there can be chemistry from first meetings, but it sure as heck isn’t going to come from Bystander 1 and 2 going “oh my god you two aren’t a couple?” or “so sorry to interrupt your date?” and “she’s such a lovely and pretty young girl, you’re so lucky!” it’s just the writers telling the player that “aww aren’t you two cute? Now kiss.” *smushes two barbies together* let it develop more naturally… or at least just have the one-off line, instead of dropping the hints 3 (I don’t remember the exact number) times. like, I’m not against this mistaken-as-a-couple trope at all (I love when it’s used right), but in this instance it just feels like another emotional shortcut for the player to feel invested in firefly. It probably works for some, but it just doesn’t for me, because I know it’s not going to go anywhere. and for good reason, because it doesn’t fit in the story. I hesitate to call it fan service. It might be? Or was it supposed to be funny? Or just to show firefly’s shy/bashful side. The last one is probably it.
anyway this is just my opinion as I casually went thru the main story. I’m not a dedicated plot/lore enthusiast so I may have missed some important points but these are just my thoughts. Mostly disappointed they pulled another Teppei with firefly, although firefly is way more preferable to the shoehorn that was Teppei 💀 I just think a couple of minor tweaks could've made Firefly a more likeable character.
Update: finished the last part of the main story where Firefly is killed. I liked the cut scene, but I think we should've had the build-up tension where we uncover Firefly's tracks earlier?? Like I get that we're supposed to have the shock of a sudden death but since we had no real connection to Firefly it was very eh for me. I think that since we were going to backtrack anyway, we could switch POVs for a second to walk around as Firefly in a series of disjointed scenes and then re-converge as MC right before they meet. Dunno though tbh.
Now, when Aventurine leads us to Robyn's corpse, that was epic.

Turns out I have a lot of thoughts about only the finale, so Im just gonna jot down my thoughts about season 5 bullet-point style before I forget everything and then make a seperate post about just the finale
I liked the return to form we got with it just being Ladybug and Cat Noir fighting villains instead of all these other superheroes that honestly just clutter everything, I am most certainly not looking forward to seeing how theyll handle this in the next season
I liked that they were kinda breaking out of the incredibly consistant formulaic episode structure and specifically that we got more interesting de-akumatizations than just Ladybug physically beating them
Monarchs design fucking sucked, why are his ears just fully out. slut
I quite liked Felix despite all the negative stuff Ive heard about him, I was honestly suprised that he played such a small role this season I think he only had like 6 or 7 appearances in the entire show
Feligami is not even working for me, even if I didnt prefer Marigami and Adrigaminette and even if I didnt think their relationship was rushed and felt obligatory and forced, theres just something kinda unsettling about how Felix has the ability to fully kill Kagami. Like, I dont think hes gonna do it considering how crushed he was when he to get rid of the big red orb that eats people, but it still adds this weird undertone to the relationship. I think the only way to resolve this that I can think of would be to have them swap miraculous, even just for one episode so that we can see that Felix genuinely trusts her with his life the same way he expects her to trust him
I already wrote a whole post about how the mostly male writers of this show clearly dont understand how teen girls react to other teen girls who are compulsive liars, so Im definitely not looking forward to Lila and her bullshit getting even more attention
Its so weird how Gabriel and Tomoe are clearly portrayed as in the wrong for wanting to control their children the way they do, but then when Chloes mom literally does the same thing with basically the same wording and everything its just like, karma ig?? Or atleast thats how I read it with how Chloe was written to be so comically awful for the entire season
Everything involving the Alliance rings was fucking bonkers who came up with that
This season felt a lot less magical and miraculous whimsical, like it was going into more of a weird sci-fi direction which I dont really like
I liked the stuff with the resistance and how the Miracuclass were still trying to be heroes even without superpowers and I liked how they called each other comrades, that was kinda based ngl
Kitty Noirs design sucked ass, who thought it was a good idea to put all those clashing colors on her head but I did like that we got to see Alya slay as Scarabella again that was fun
My favorite episode of the season and possibly the series tbh was Perfection, I actually teared up a little towards the end it was lovely

here’s some random bumi hcs bc i’m feeling my favourite airhead tonight
he absolutely ADORES water tribe food and finds the air temple food just DREADFUL, he’d like his veggies with a nice big tasty steak thank you very much
he has a hard time focusing, however when he does he has a hyperfocus. this is possibly one of the signs that he has an undiagnosed adhd.
he is very sentimental and affectionate - wanna watch some sappy love story or a tearjerker ? he’s your guy ! he’ll be bawling his eyes out before you know it and he’s not ashamed of any of it.
he’s also a touchy feely person - the main way he shows his affection is by pda
however not all is sunshine and rainbows, he shows clear signs of severe ptsd and experiences night terrors on a frequent basis. i hc that he lost an entire squadron in a confrontation against literal cannibals, a squadron he led straight into a trap - hence it is his darkest memory that still haunts him, those lives were lost because of him.
once he gained the ability to bend bumi did not feel any relief - if anything, the weight on his shoulders felt even greater now. he never gave much thought about having kids because to him it wasn’t “obligatory” as tenzin was the only airbender and thus he had the responsibility to rebuild the air nation from zero. bumi was more than glad to leave that one with his brother, considering his shitty relationship with aang he doubted he would be a good father ( although he is an amazing uncle to tenzin’s kids, much like sokka was to him and iroh was to zuko ), being an airbender now placed another weight on his shoulders.
he never felt at home in the air temple, and much more preferred to be in the water tribe as he felt like he belonged there. after going under the airbending training, bumi slowly starts to get closer to his mother’s culture as time goes by, eventually dropping the air nation wardrobe altogether in favour of a water tribe get up that not only feels freeing ( he dreaded the tight clothes he had to wear on his training ) but also spoke to his personality.
he is still close friends to the gaang kids, being closer to izumi surprisingly enought as at first they seem complete opposites. he was also has been a constant presence on iroh ii’s life ever since the boy’s birth - loving him as the closest thing he’ll have as a son.
despite a lot better now, his relationship with his siblings is still complicated, especially with tenzin. he loves them to death and would do anything for them, but being around them for too long opens some old wounds he’d rather not. kya had a better relationship with their mother due to he personality and bending, as tenzin had a better relationship with aang, naturally bumi felt left out. much like lin, his issues with his parents still have their effects and perhaps that’s why he understands the earthbender so well as he too felt neglected. in the end, bumi had as main parental figure his uncle sokka, who sadly died.
i cant believe i forgot to include this but i LIVE for pansexual bumi okay ????? and you bet your ass he falls in love with people who can, and absolutely would, beat the crap out of him !!!! no but really, he has a particular weak spot for commaning and austere people, homeboi needs some order to all of his chaos ngl

Actually, have a few scattered DC thoughts on the latest franchise news. Obligatory note that I didn’t grow up as a DC fan, I was a Marvel fan until I couldn’t make excuses any more, and my biggest comic book thing is I have very strong thoughts on the Batman universe due to imprinting on Jim Gordon at a very young age
I think the reason they’re giving for Batgirl’s shelving is bullshit and I do think that anyone who takes it at surface level is lying to themselves.
I’m also kind of frustrated at the Birds of Prey erasure because that film was my favorite superhero film in a while.
Don’t get me started on the Ezra stuff because Jesus fucking Christ
However, I think the general approach they are taking is both mind-numbingly basic (”put screenwriting first” yeah James that’s how most good movies are made??) but also tragically refreshing in an era of “we can’t give the whole cast the script or let everyone know everything.” Films are storytelling mediums - if you don’t have a story, you’re going to have garbage. Yes, cameos make the theater cheer, but if you don’t have a coherent story - or you’re not letting the writers working across the franchise in on the story’s direction - you’re gonna get fucked
I also like the idea of using the relaunch to start with less of the top tier stuff, because lets be honest the reason MCU movies worked in the beginning (aside from playing more with genre/tone and also not being factory made at an impossible speed and with no artistic form) is because they took four folks who weren’t the X-Men or Spidey and made us care about them! It’s a smart business decision
Ngl I’m excited for Waller, the Lanterns show, and Swamp Thing
Despite my endless frustration with Abrams, I am excited for his Superman movie, especially since he’s not writing it!
Overall, and this is my most controversial opinion, I’ve yet to meet a Gunn film I’ve really liked beyond The Suicide Squad and even then it isn’t like... my favorite? (I’m a known GotG hater since 2014!). I think he’s got a good visual eye, I think he’s been through a lot of shit, but I also think he’s not the best overall at thinking critically about certain things like race, gender, or sexuality. However, maybe I’m either not paying enough attention or I’m just not the target audience member! Open to criticism tbh. However, I do like the fact that he’s more focused on telling a coherent franchise narrative than he is about trying to generate an Avengers: Endgame level event without putting in the fucking work first, and as a writer I do like that he’s thinking about the screenwriters first.
Also I kind of love that he has a writers room for the franchise. I think that’s smart! I think more big franchise should have story groups and I think they should have the ability to shoot down bad ideas.
Always this is a long ass post to say I’m neutral overall, but in general I’m more interested in the concept of what could happen than I’ve felt about the DC film universe before today. I’m still suffering from franchise fatigue and I’m also very annoyed about certain things but at the same time... more interested in this than whatever Marvel’s doing right now tbh

character ask Jason Todd
Tumblr media
I mainly consume DC content from the cartoons ngl, so for me I found a lot of the appeal of the character from the 2010 Under the Red Hood movie, that being said I will talk about the actual comics a little bit.
He got character assassinated so bad, in more ways than one. If you didn't know, in 1988, fans voted to kill him off as part of the Death in the Family storyline. He stayed dead for awhile in irl years before he was brought back as Red Hood and his character is written differently every time, also writers tend to slander him in his robin days saying that he has always been dark and brooding and super edgy, that he was so reckless that he got himself killed etc etc.
the way I choose to interpret the character is gonna be different from everyone else's way so other jason fans please don't come after me, BUT: I am a fan of the question "was this character destined to go down a dark path no matter what happened to them? or did their traumatic experience change them in a way nothing else would?" Jason as robin was pretty enthusiastic, so I would say it was mostly the trauma of him dying, being revived for no good reason, and subsequently seeing that his death changed nothing about how Batman dealt with Joker/dangerous people in general, in addition to not being avenged. However, even in his much brighter days as Robin, Jason would get pretty violent against abusers/rapists such as in "The Diplomat's Son" where it was implied he pushed a rapist off a balcony to his death, instead of letting him go free because of diplomatic immunity.
In my opinion, robin jason should be allowed to go down a bit of a dark spiral, as a treat. Jokes aside, it felt like a natural side effect of him getting a little older, so I don't mind it much, even in the more recent animated movies. Though its important to note that this is a change in his personality, rather than him "[being] an edgelord from day 1" that was further propelled into his much less forgiving tactics as the Red Hood.
As for "why does they look like that" being crossed, please look at this image from gotham knights. the character is 19 or 20 and yet some people want to render him like he is 35 with 2 kids and a mortgage
Tumblr media
to step away from that, here is my obligatory favorite picture of Jason, from Death in the Family (2020). top 10 photos taken before disaster <3
