No "show results", if you're not a fanfic writer just be patient.
I saw a post about an anon saying it was embarrasing to have an ao3 account in your 30s (it's absolutely not), so I want to do a poll and see what the age range actually is.

i’ll never not be embarrassed about reading fanfiction, but it truly makes me so happy. so many fanfics are written as professionally as a published book, they just use characters we already know and love, and i’ll never not feel indebted to the people who put hours into writings just for silly little people on the internet to read and fawn over. so to any fanfic writer out there, i owe you my happiness :)

When did fanfiction reviews get so critical? I remember 2014 when you could write 1,000 words in text speak and people would go, “omg ur soooo talented!!!!” But now you put your fully developed shit out and peeps go, “um excuse me, but your concept hasn’t been explored deeply enough.”
I’M SORRY WHAT

So, for anyone who still uses FFN. Uh, you have to manually turn on email notifications for fic updates now! Which...is a choice the website made. And you have to manually turn them back on every 3-6 months. (The above screenshot shows 6 months, but I've seen others from today [Nov 11, 2022] that say 90 days.)
So, if you still follow fics on FFN, make sure to check your account settings.
@ao3commentoftheday I know this isn't AO3 related, but I haven't seen much notice on tumblr about this yet and the news should probably spread.

I seriously need more people to write those 2012 Avengers fics where everyone is a family, Clint climbs in the vents, Thor is obsessed with Pop Tarts, Natasha is the only somewhat mentally sane one, Tony never comes out of his lab, Bruce is always in the lab with a Tony but less so and they work on various projects, and Steve is always setting up training at 6 in the morning that nobody wants to go to can we start doing those again?

No one:
Absolutely nobody:
Fanfic Writers: oh look at my sweet sweet main character :)))) so so sweet and innocent :)))))) my favourite character:))))))) I just want them to be happy and healthy and-
Also Fanfic Writers: So, I killed all their family, their best friend, their dog, their pet fish, and they were tortured for several days, but it’s okay because they have powers or something and they’re dating my other favourite character now! It’s pretty toxic with several bright red flags and they both aren’t stable enough for a relationship, but their soooooo cute together!!

Fellow fanfic readers: what platform do you use the most when reading? This goes for all websites/apps (Wattpad, fanfic.net, ao3, and others).
For example, I like reading on my tablet the most but I end up using my phone more often.

I hope you don't mind me having a little rant here:
I don't want to get into "good ol' times" mindset, especially, since I'm not even fandom old (like, I'm only in my mid 20s), but I miss old fandom culture. Or rather: I miss how unhinged and unapologetic it was. All these funny disclaimers (like "nothing belongs to me, if [franchise] belonged to me, [ship] would be making out all the time"), authors arguing with characters, people squeeing in the comments, "don't like don't read" and "ship and let ship" being the default, general weirdness being the default – this all was so awesome. And the interactivity. Like, I have a feeling, that in old fandom interacting with each other, especially the creators, was much more common. And don't get me wrong, I am thankful for every single comment I get on my works, but I still can't shake the feeling, that commenting is not as popular as it used to be, especially if one isn't already an established writer/artist/etc. in the fandom.
Yeah, there are things, that got better with time – I absolutely love the current emphasis on tagging – but I still miss a lot of things.
I don't know, if anyone feels like that too. Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking, I dunno.
Anyway, thank you for listening to me. I hope everyone has a great day! 💜💜💜
Yes! I miss some of that too!
I consider myself pretty young in terms of fandom but I started reading on Fanfiction.net which is where a lot of “old fandom” content was posted; it was quite odd interacting mostly with inactive accounts like discovering the ruins of a once great kingdom/hj
There was a lot of “I don’t own this media: PLEASE DONT SUE ME!!!!!!” And definitely wrangling the characters into interacting with the authors notes, Oh my gosh- the citrus scale??? With no context that was quite the surprise!
I do miss that energy- it was a wild and lawless time but by Holy did you people party

The funniest censorship story that I personally experienced is one time when I was like 12 writing on ff. net I was PMing my friend and she said she liked my fanfic and I said "Thanks! I worked really hard on it" and the website censored the phrase "hard on" in the chat and I was twelve and didn't know why because I was unfamiliar with that particular use of the term and I kept typing it over and over being so confused and I still think ab it sometimes
