Fall Drabbles, Day 7
prompt: flannel
pairing: Frank Castle x fem!reader
summary: Frank loves that you wear his clothes but would rather you stay warm when you're not feeling well.
warnings: swearing, brief non-graphic descriptions of illness, fluff
a/n: I keep warning for swearing but I don't even think these all have swearing lol. Anyways, another one in the Lumberjack!Frank AU!
w/c: <1k
Treading up the hill through the snow, Frank hefted the pile of freshly split logs to the top of the existing stack, except for the handful he carried under his arm and into the cabin. Kicking off his boots, he carefully placed two new logs into the dying fire, stirring the embers before replacing the screen as quietly as he could.
The house was dark, quiet—lacking the life that you usually brought to it. That was what he expected tonight, though. He'd been out later than usual, a cacophony of nightmares and intrusive thoughts plaguing his mind as he hacked into tree after tree.  Combined with the fact that you were feeling under the weather, he was glad to come home to a silent house and a diminishing fire rather than an exhausted, yet awake, girlfriend.
Scrubbing a hand over his face, he plopped down on the sofa, snatching his current read from the end table as he sat. As he made his way through a few chapters, the growing heat from the flames pushed the chill from his aging bones. Shifting onto his side, a soft padding caught his attention. You shuffled out from his bedroom, rubbing your eyes with a yawn.
“Hiya, sleepyhead.” Frank murmured, catching you as you collapsed into his lap. “How're ya feelin'?“
Giving a half-hearted shrug, you nestled in against him. ”Little better.“ Your poor voice was scratchy and quiet as a mouse. He was overcome with the urge to whisk you back into the bedroom and bundle you up tightly—especially when he registered that your outfit was only a flannel shirt.
”Hmm, ya don't sound too good. Ain't ya chilly, sweetheart?“ He wrapped his arms around you, rubbing one hand over your exposed thigh in an attempt to warm you up.
Nodding against his neck, you shuddered. Frowning, Frank pressed a kiss to your head. “Why don't we get ya somethin' better to wear? Ya look adorable in my shirt, doll, but it ain't the warmest choice.”
Making a mournful noise of protest, you wrapped the soft fabric tightly around yourself. “I like it. It's soft, like you.”
Frank chuckled at the unique description of himself, hand still stroking your bare leg. “A'right, let's get ya some pants, at least.”
Gently setting you on your feet, Frank's heart swelled with a protective affection when you shyly took his hand as he led you to the bedroom. You looked so small in his massive shirt, arms completely dwarfed by the plaid sleeves
Finding his softest pair of sweats, he held them up. “How 'bout these?”
At your sleepy yet affirmative nod, he gestured for you to sit before slipping the pants over your legs. Tying the string tightly to prevent the oversized fabric from falling down, Frank perched next to you, holding you upright as a coughing fit bent you at the waist.
“Christ, doll, you ok?” In lieu of a response, you sighed roughly and let him put an arm around your sagging shoulders. “Why don't I make ya somethin’ hot to drink before we both get some rest?”
“Yes please.” You whispered, hoarsely. Kissing your cheek tenderly, Frank stood up and made for the door—only to be pulled back by your weak grip.
“Can I come?” Your voice cracked around the request and he winced as his own throat ached in sympathy.
“If you want to, darlin’,” He nodded, grasping your waist to help you off the bed.
Once in the kitchen, Frank got to work. Grabbing a lemon, some honey, and a bottle of whiskey from the pantry, he pulled you flush against him as the water started to boil—tucking your unusually warm head under his chin and drawing circles over your back.
Grimacing at the shrill whistle from the teapot, you withdrew from his comforting embrace, giving an insincere smile when he showed you the silly mug he’d set aside.
Frank made quick work of the task at hand, whipping up the hot toddy with ease and passing it to you. “Careful, darlin’, it’s hot.”
Nodding blearily, you gratefully accepted the mug, pulling it to your flannel-covered chest with a small sigh of relief. “Thank you.” You murmured, blowing on the liquid before taking a few small sips. Humming appreciatively, you closed your eyes.
“Anytime, babydoll.”

OCTOBER PROMPTS 🎃 — 13. Tara Carpenter
Tumblr media
A/N: The way y’all voted on that poll was a true landslide lol I guess I didn’t realize how huge the tara stans are. So here goes something for my final fall prompt, hope this doesn’t flop like scream 7 will 🤭🤫 but this is a short and simple ending so I do hope you enjoy this.
PROMPTS are from HERE & HERE + I’m using: going to a pumpkin patch + “you look cold, do you want a hug?” + “you think someone died here?”
WARNINGS: slight language I think? Dark humor. Age-difference: with Tara being twenty-one and oc/reader being twenty-five/six + Chad and Tara never became a thing in this timeline!
<- read my previous october anthology prompt here.
⁺˚⋆。°✩₊✧˖°. ☼ ⁺˚⋆。°✩₊✧˖°. ☼ ⁺˚⋆。°✩₊✧˖°. ☼ ⁺˚⋆。°✩ ⁺˚
Being at a pumpkin patch in mid-November when the skies were painted like pale ice in a frozen lake and the trees lost their copper leaves for good was questionable for Tara. The air no longer had its crispness to it but it started to feel more along the lines of a wild animal taking bites out of your face here in New York. However Tara couldn’t find herself complaining—well despite the fact that Sam turned this into a group outing—Tara couldn’t wait to see Johnnie.
Johnnie was Sam’s age, older than Tara, and easily became likable in Tara’s eyes although Sam often gave Johnnie a hard time even in the beginning. Of course they still had to be cautious but Tara always stood on the fact that she just wanted to live life after it’s been at risk of being taken away for good. She wouldn’t be as naive as last year but something about Johnnie had Tara’s insides turning into mush—in a good way though—not in a decaying guts kind of way.
The train ride was recommended by Johnnie to her family’s farm from the city and that became a whole debacle between the friends, until Tara waved her phone in the air saying that she already purchased a ticket while the rest could spend forever trying to figure out what they wanted to do. Mindy found this humorous how whenever Johnnie was mentioned, Tara made it her mission to be tuned into the conversation if she checked out.
Mindy was the first to pick up on the signs before Tara did and took great pride in Tara coming to her first out of the core four. Chad would argue against that saying he was actually the first since Tara did start to vent when they pulled a all nighter together. However he actually had no clue who Tara could be talking about and ended up eavesdropping when she chatted to Mindy one afternoon when he was supposed to be studying…basically pick a twin to believe at this point.
Tara couldn’t wipe the smile off her face on the train ride, fingers rapidly flying over her screen to the dimpled grin on her face when she spotted Johnnie helping out at the entrance of her family’s pumpkin patch.
“They’re with me, cousin.” Johnnie informs the family member with hair as white as snow, before grabbing up the walkie to contact someone else to head to the front and help out, now being off the clock with her friends here.
“Can we get more free perks for Christmas?” Chad asks as they briefly embrace and Johnnie rolls her eyes.
Johnnie folded her arms, “Why? So you can continue bringing your flings around and eat their tongues instead of enjoying the scenery?”
Chad frowned, “who are these flings that you speak of? I’m here enjoying the pumpkins with my favorite sister.”
As he goes to toss an arm over the curly haired girl’s shoulder, she shoves him away, “save it for the jury, Chad. I saw you eyeing that pretty girl with the shell earrings and racer jacket not too long ago.”
“I mean…she could be the one.” Chad couldn’t even bother to deny his wandering eyes.
Sam, Mindy, and Tara all share a groan while Danny snickers at Chad’s usual antics before being elbowed by Sam.
“Hey Tara,” Johnnie says, falling into step with the smaller girl; after informing everyone of the many activities the farm included.
Tara smiles up at her, “Hey Johnnie…remind me why we’re going pumpkin hunting so late into the season?”
“Well…I’m having a Friendsgiving next weekend at my spot and…that maybe partly true but I also wanted to hang out with you again before that.” Johnnie was honest with this, which made Tara slowly nod her head in appreciation.
Johnnie used to attend the same university as the three, received her degrees, started her business of creating designs on amputee’s prosthetics and moved to New Jersey two months ago to purchase her own home. So her having her shit together was definitely inspiring (and not to mention attractive) in Tara’s eyes and although she didn’t have everything figured out herself, one thing she was sure of: spending time with Johnnie felt right, scary yet comfortable and safe.
“Ohhh that’s right, I almost forgot about that.” Tara widens her eyes in realization, cursing to herself that she actually did forget about this but knew she could blame it on being swamped in school work, while Johnnie stumbles.
With a hand on her chest, she sighs playfully, “you wound me carpenter.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Tara replies with a longing stare as they approach the line in front of a few booths.
Johnnie leans towards Tara who doesn’t realize she’s holding her breath, “what’re you in the mood for?”
“…hmm?” Tara asks, quickly pulling her eyes back to the line when Johnnie tries to catch her eye.
Johnnie laughs, “the menu. Anything catch your interest?”
“Well,” Tara starts as the autumn chill washes over the attendees on the farm, making her hunch her mesh covered shoulders a bit and clasp her hands together, “what would you recommend?”
“Everything.”
Tara scoffs as Johnnie winks at her.
“Can you even see the menu up ahead?”
“I’m not blind.”
“Nah, just short.” Johnnie teases while Tara quickly tosses a middle finger at the older girl.
Johnnie laughs to herself, picking up on tara’s attire which failed to keep her warm on this breezy farm. So Johnnie takes the opportunity to stand behind Tara instead, who is now bouncing on her tippy toes to what may seem like she was attempting to see the menu but it was probably to keep her blood flowing better.
Tara’s almost ready to swing until her belly realizes the familiar rasp by her ear, “you look cold, do you want a hug?”
Before her mouth can fumble out an answer, tatted hands come into Tara’s view as Johnnie locks her arms across Tara’s shoulders. She doesn’t find herself going stiff but easily welcomes Johnnie’s touch. A small smile graces Tara’s lips as her eyes fall in love with the dainty details of ink that decorate Johnnie’s skin. The artwork tells a story of Johnnie’s big heart which some may view as a contrast to her androgynous exterior much like the striking scar through Tara’s palm. That same scar Johnnie lightly draws a fingertip over from time to time and does so right now as Tara buries her nose against the side of Johnnie’s tatted other thumb.
Tara can even smell the balance of scents on Johnnie’s warm skin, a light creamy but earthy scent that makes Tara envision curling underneath blankets and staring out at Misty mountains instead of crowded streets full of loud voices, and suspicious faces. A sense of serenity that Tara wasn’t sure she’d ever find until she met Johnnie.
“What ya smiling at?”
Tara pries her eyes open, knowing she had been caught but keeps her eyes on the line that she didn’t realize moved forward some. “Nothing. You just think you’re so smooth when you could have been said you wanted to hold my hand earlier.”
Johnnie quickly places a peck to Tara’s temple so fast that she thinks she imagines it, “I want to do more than just hold your hand,” Johnnie ends up whispering before unraveling herself from Tara, who has to fight to hold herself up right.
“S’orry.” She mutters to those behind her as Johnnie takes the lead, heading right up to the stand, falling into small chatter with the worker before introducing an awkward Tara.
Tara is wide eyed as Johnnie banters back and forth for a little before they both set eyes on Tara.
“What?” Tara raises a brow, finding that she’s zoned out again just gazing at Johnnie socialize.
“You strike me as a apple nacho’s kinda girl.” The male worker says while Johnnie pretends to think about it.
“I’d say a apple cider donut but you’re of course welcome to try whichever or anything else on the board.” Johnnie responds, “on me.”
Tara tilts her head to the side, “what’re you getting?”
“The apple nachos,” Johnnie states.
Tara nods, “then I’ll get the donut…as long as you share.”
“Sure, sure. Anything you want,” Johnnie beams before turning back to the man, “you heard the lady!”
“Yeah, yeah.” He fans Johnnie with a knowing look before shouting out to the cooks off to the side.
With a carton tray full of crisp apple pastries—nachos, a side of caramel, two forks, and a yellow bag full of mini apple cider donuts, the two continued traveling through the large field together.
“Where have these been my entire life?” Tara groans after savoring the dessert.
Johnnie laughs, “right up here on this farm, I take it you’re enjoying those nachos?”
“Enjoying? More like I’d love to marry them! Can’t you tell by the way I’m murdering these bitches?! Perfect crunch on the outside and crisp from the apple on the inside, all with a side of caramel sauce?! It’s so delicious to the point i can’t even apologize for the noises you’re hearing because it’s your fault and I hope we finish them before the rest try to get any.” Tara admits through her rant while Johnnie abruptly stops.
Tara lifts her head, ready to question what was going on but Johnnie steered them in a different direction, “then we better head the other way since they’re all up by the goats and llamas.”
“Good call,” Tara says peeking over her shoulder to see Sam all cuddled up with Danny.
Disgustingly so.
Johnnie’s family farm was nice to be at although the temperature was constantly dropping but there weren’t many people out this evening, which was fine by Tara. The further they circled around the farm the closer they got to one of the rides here. It was the Ali baba—the large swing on the boot of a bulldozer? The pair stood beside each other outside the gate, watching as a few faces disappeared higher into the now gravel colored sky from side to side.
“you think someone died here?” Tara asks around the donut she previously stuffed her freckled face with.
Johnnie glances at tara and rotates to her better ear, “huh?”
The air from the ride and the earth along with the carnival music made it a bit difficult but after tara finishes the donut she speaks a bit louder, repeating the question, “you think someone died here?”
A couple shoot Tara a nasty look as they exit from behind the fence and Johnnie smirks at them with a mocking wave, leaning against the metal gate. Tara let’s out a snort as she leans towards Johnnie.
“Where’s that coming from?” Johnnie sweeps Tara’s bangs to the side.
Tara shrugs, “apparently horror films are not just a one month thing with Mindy. We’re now on your favorite series: final destination.”
Johnnie dips her head in understanding, “Ah,” and almost feels flattered that Tara remembered, “well this farms been open for about fifteen years and that ride’s only been around for the past five maybe? As far I know…no deaths. Why? You wanna get on?”
“Hell yeah I do,” Tara nods with a grin, “and I don’t care that I may puke everything up. As long as you promise to hold my hand.”
Johnnie taps her chin before matching Tara’s smile after lightly pressing their foreheads together, “I think I can do that, babe.”
‘Babe?!’ Tara thinks to herself as Johnnie takes their trash to the nearest barrel before meeting Tara half way with her hand held out.
And Tara doesn’t hesitate as she slips her smaller hand into Johnnie’s tatted one. She gives Tara’s hand a squeeze, fingers interlocked which Tara gazes down at while Johnnie watches Tara. When tara flicks her brown doe eyes back to meet Johnnie’s, they smile sweetly once more, feeling like this could be the start of—nope not something new! but a romance worth taking a stab-wait that’s not right either! chance on.

Fall Drabbles, Day 10
Happy Halloween everyone!
prompt: halloween candy
pairing: Frank Castle x fem!Reader
summary: Frank has a frustrating habit of eating all of the candy meant for trick or treaters.
warnings: swearing, fluff
a/n: AHHHH I hope this is a good enough apology for my lack of writing. I updated my posting schedule and posted that, but everything has been postponed for 2 weeks so I can catch up. Thank you everyone, I hope you enjoy.
w/c: <1k
Honestly, this whole issue boiled down to you being an enabler, even if your enabling was unintentional. A couple of weeks ago, you’d started stockpiling Halloween candy. It made sense at the time; your local store was having a sale and there was no way that you’d eat through 6 bags of fun size candy in three weeks.
Unfortunately for you and the prospective trick or treaters in your building, you had not factored in your husband nor his endless stomach. It was the 26th and you only had 3 bags left—one of which was currently opened and positioned between Frank’s legs for easy access.
Sighing as you watched him add another metallic shred of plastic to the growing candy wrapper pile, you moved to stand in front of him and crossed your arms. Pointedly ignoring you, Frank peeked around your ass to continue watching the game on the tv. The barely visible smirk at the edge of his lips threatened to send you into a rampage.
“Frank.” You said tersely, glaring at him. He refused to look at you, smirk no longer hidden as he tore open yet another mini Milky Way and popped it into his mouth.
“Frank!” You growled, hands unfolding to land on your hips. Your husband, ever the asshole, opened two pieces of candy this time.
“Francis David Castiglione!” You snapped, whipping the remote off the table and shutting the tv off. After the day you’d had, you were in no mood for his games.
Seemingly realizing that you were serious when you pulled the full-name card, Frank turned to you with wide eyes, smirk vanishing.
“I told you to stop eating the candy. Want to tell me why I came home to you eating from a new bag on the couch?” You raised an eyebrow at him.
“Sweetheart, I—“ He started, but you held up a hand.
“Don’t you ‘sweetheart’ me, Castle. I’m upset with you! I bought this candy so that we could give it out on Halloween! At the rate you’re consuming it, we won’t have a single piece this weekend,” You pouted, arms folding across your chest again as you waited for his apology.
“My darlin’, beautiful wife,” Frank began, clearly not worried about pushing more of your buttons. “I am sorry I ate more of the candy, I didn’t realize how much it meant to ya, honey. If it’ll make you happy, I’ll go replenish our stock right now.”
Striding over to you, he held his hands out in a gesture of good will before pulling you into an embrace. Or, rather, trying to pull you into an embrace. You dodged his outstretched hands, throwing him a wicked look. “It’s the 26th, Frank. The 26th! All of the good candy will be sold out!! We’ll have to give out sixlets, or carrots or some other crap and the kids will hate us and then the word will spread and then we’ll be egged or something! And then—“
Interrupting you with a bellowing laugh, Frank beamed at you, unphased by your murderous stare. “Sweetheart, tell me you’re not serious.”
“Of course I’m serious, Frank! I want the kids to like me and you’re going to ruin it!!” You groused, the small cloud of fear that you’d been carrying around this month seeping into your tone. Frank noticed the genuine emotion, eyes softening as he tilted your chin up so he could look into your eyes.
“Hey, what’s goin’ on in that pretty head of yours? Talk to me, sweets.”
Sighing, you collapsed against his sturdy chest, letting the confession bubble out of you as he stroked his large palm over your back. “It’s our first Halloween as a married couple, Frank. We just moved into this building and we’re one of the only apartments without kids. I just…I want them to like me, to like us. I want us to fit in, to be normal for a day.”
Frank hummed in response, processing your words before speaking. “I didn’t know it meant that much to you, honey, I’m sorry. And I’m sorry that I can’t give ya the white picket fence and the 2.5 kids—“
“Shit, no, Frank!” Pulling back to cup his cheek, you traced a finger over his jaw. “I didn’t mean it like that, handsome. I don’t want those things from you, I love you as you are! I just want us to have a good Halloween, is all. And I’d really really prefer not to be egged. That would be great.”
Huffing a laugh, your gorgeous spouse pressed a few scratchy kisses against your palm before tugging you back against his torso, guiding your hands around his waist. “I’ll buy my own candy and replace the stuff I ate. And if any of those fuckin’ kids so much as think about egging our door, I’ll beat ‘em up.”
Chuckling fondly, you stood on your tiptoes to plant a kiss on his mouth. “I love you.”
“I love you too, sweetheart.”

.✦ Blackened Wings. (Pt 1) - Happy Halloween!! 🦇
Tumblr media
WC - 1080 ( .MDZS Bat flock AU✦. )
Summary: The siege of burial mounds was set, but upon arrival none were found- all belongings left behind besides the clothes on their backs and Wei Wuxian's scripts. When there is nothing else left behind and no traces to find, what more is there to do than move on?
Timeline: Post first siege on the timeline. Wens/WWX did not die in the seige, and are completely off the map.
Prompt 26, for my Writing/Drawing Challenge- Animal.
.✦
Lan Wangji had been spending a great amount of time with the bats that had chosen to roost under his roof- he knew it wasn’t good practice to be in close contact with them, but he felt especially attached to them since they showed up not too long after Wei Wuxian’s and the Wens disappearance.
He was, of course, distraught. Absolutely devastated and worried- but he was very much wounded, so what could he do in such a state? When he went there to see, there really had been nothing left of them. All of their belongings were still there besides the clothes that were likely still on their backs, and Wei Wuxian’s inventions.
The assumption was, despite months of searching, that they had all died, ran away, or the most nausea inducing, been secretly done away with or decided to die together on their own terms. There was just no evidence, nothing- it was like they were spirited away.
Like they never existed.
Lan Wangji had drank that night. So much so that he thought he might disappear too- his brother had brought him home safely though, somehow.
He’d spent the next few nights trying to sneak out, being brought home and at one point even restrained- his family didn’t want him to go on a search for someone they considered evil, but especially when injured and having no leads- he didn’t care. However all he was allowed was time sitting on his deck, the night sky all he had to keep himself from going completely out of touch.
He could remember stories that Wei Wuxian told him as he looked at the stars- how he hoped his parents were two of those very ancient lights watching over him- on a long past anniversary of his mother’s passing.
And then…they came from that sky.
A somewhat large, black and red bat with a group of small white bats- he hadn’t ever seen the small white kind before, but the larger one looked kind of like a flying fox. It was large, but it wasn’t as big as some he’d seen- which made him think it was a different breed than those he’d seen in the past. Its wingspan was impressive, but its body was smaller than a cat’s. The small ones could fit in his palm if they allowed him to hold them, with sunburst orange details and dark gray wings, accented by that same golden color mixed with a light, delicate red on the outer fold of their wings. The smallest of them had an especially brilliant hue and a lovely fluffy white coat, and was the friendliest of the bunch. A baby, he presumed.
He’d focused on them, watching them hang from the beams and all huddle up inside the larger’s wings in what he assumed to be to stay warm. It was still chilly at night, and the white bats were quite small- and as they were white primarily they likely didn’t get a lot of heat retention. The larger bat though was the one who shivered. The smaller ones would huddle close, and eventually the larger one would fall asleep for a short time.
So he watched them, and stopped trying to run away. For some reason the bats stuck around, and one of the smaller ones especially loved to fly over to him and hang off his robes, sit on his shoulder or on his head. The larger one would quickly follow as if worried, but would stay as well when treated to pets and figs. It turned out even the smaller ones ate fruit as well, which he found unusual. He’d never met such small bats that didn’t eat insects and rather ate fruit.
It became his reason to keep going day to day, the only reason he didn’t rush off with his injured body looking for the one he loved. He had to stay here as long as he was injured, but he felt the time was easier now, spending time with his bats.
“A-Ying,” Lan Wangji whispered to the large bat, watching as its head turned to him expectantly. These bats were so smart, and the little things this one did reminded him of all the cute characteristics Wei Wuxian had. Rubbing its nose with its wing, tilting its head when told something curious. He still remembered the angry flapping accompanying a quite squeaky, chittery shriek the bat had made when his uncle had gotten too close to the little white bat. Those two seemed bonded, despite the little one appearing to have some sort of family amongst the other white bats left.
“Is it alright if I name your little one too?” Lan Wangji asked softly, watching as it leaned forward to give him a little lick on the nose with its soft little tongue. He exhaled quietly like an attempt of a laugh despite the exhaustion, listening to the soft mewling and chirps that sounded like real laughter to him.
“What about ‘Sizhui’?”
The bat moved its head back as if it truly understood the words, mouth slightly ajar with its head tilting ever so slightly and eyes wide- as if he was looking into his heart with those dark eyes.
“It is from a poem…do you want to hear?”
The bat chittered quietly in response.
“Yearning for but cannot chase after you, longing for someday when you will return.” He looked outside briefly, where the bats usually were roosting. The bats however were roosting in the corner of his room where it was warm, except for the littlest one currently hooked into his lapels. “It loosely means ‘chasing memories’, or another: ‘to yearn for’.” He gently scratched under the large bat’s jaw, watching its ears vibrate with happiness to the affection, but still stare at him so closely. It was unusual to see the bat this focused.
“Do you like it?”
The bat gently booped their noses together and wiggled its ears again, the soft little clicks bringing the corner of his mouth up, however tired it was. “Little Sizhui then.”
He paused, remembering the boy that followed at Wei Wuxian’s heels. He called the boy little radish, didn’t he? He missed them so much…
He hadn’t realized he had started to drift to sleep until he felt something soft gently wiping away the tears he hadn’t known he shed. His eyes cracked open just slightly, and he could have sworn he saw pale anthracite blue looking back at him.

Hope you guys enjoy Halloween! I took time to finish most of chapter 28 instead of working on the second part for this, but just so you know its basically a second perspective with perhaps a bit more addition. It'll be for prompt 18 "Love."! I will hopefully have another part to show you guys before long, but for now i hope you enjoy this ! 🦇 💖
I did a very quick sketch with it, but I apologize cuz it doesn't look too great hahaha I'm just trying to get ahead so I can't spend time on side stuff too much. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! eat lots of candy and enjoy some halloween movies etcetc!!

Random Information about this au:
WWX turned himself and the Wens into bats together to “disappear”. The bats start roosting under the edge of the Jingshi roof in the corner and LWJ watches them during his recovery days. He thinks it's in his head that two of them remind him of wwx & wy but doesn't care - he protects them now, and even a bit of the vice versa.
WWX is a fruit bat (I felt like a flying fox would be too big), and the wens are Honduran white bats. They are seen as a flock, despite WWX presenting as a different breed. They CAN change at will, except for Wen Yuan which WWX keeps tight control of because he’s a kid and accidents can happen. They don’t though, so the Lans assume they are all just regular bats that have taken a liking to the Jingshi roofing.
(Extra: convo excerpts when developing, it won't be completely cohesive):
Sasu: Someone is mean to LWJ (forcing him to accept liquor, etc etc) bat wwx pops out and starts squeaking at them from inside his lapels. It scares em off (works almost everytime).
A-Yuan is still little so he stays on LWJs shoulder half the time (tucked under wwx wing the rest of the time).
Yuyu: “Pristine cultivator Hanguang-Jun” chilling in front of his uncle who’s seething. Cause there’s two bats on his nephew; One is chewing his ribbon.
Yuyu: Would be funny if only wwx was the big bat and all the wens and a-yuan were just-
A tiny mob of fluffs under his wing
Sasu: jfhshfjfj beautiful, I like the idea. Maybe not a flying fox size cuz that's huuuuuuge but fruit bat. still big enough!
Yuyu: Everyone in Gusu just sighs as they now not only got “totally not pets” bunnies but bats too. Wangji privilege smh
I like to imagine Qiren is like….slightly afraid of the larger bat
Sasu: all the Lans start to like the small bat flock tho cuz the big one brings bugs and fruits to the small ones
they also don't poop there which is a plus xD
I'm sure they wouldn't like guano on Gusu paths
Yuyu: Omg.
Maybe one of the smaller bats got stuck in Qiren’s closets or something
And well….
Qiren might explode
Sasu: jfhsgdjfb LMAO LWJ is just like “why did you close them in there” and just babies the bat and feeds it a berry or smth
Yuyu: The lost bat was a-yuan ಥ_ಥ Hence wwx was just panicking flying everywhere
Sasu: I think wwx woulda led them to the closet and just sqUEAK
Qiren: "no u cant get in there!" but then heard the other squeaks gjhsgxjf
LWJ just following them around like what's wrong and that's how he ends up on the scene jfjshdhf much bat cuddles after that
Yuyu: wlskjheiocewin one day LWJ just full on cuddles bat wwx like a plushy and wwx bat is just (a bunch of flustered emojis) And all the other bats are just looking at him from the other side of the room like e u e
Sasu: HAHAHAHA they know they for sure know- god I'm dying a little imagining LWJ petting wwx slowly while he's going to sleep like he's a cat (and falls asleep with his hand on him)
Yuyu: God imagine if that’s how he poofs back into a human- /jk
Sasu: ignshdjfn fruits basket style. imagine he wakes up and sees the bat replaced with wwx nods
Yuyu: Wwx has not dared to move all night
Sasu: wwx panic shifts back into a bat and LWJ wonders if he was seeing things
Yuyu: Just eyes his water next to his bed all suspiciously……"did i accidentally drink"
Sasu: hfhsbdjd - he starts calling the bat a-ying (cuz wei ying would be too on point) and the bat seems a little flighty so he's like ‘did i catch smth’ nfhshdjjf he's sus but also doubtful haha ‘maybe i offended him’
aw but imagine he like recognizes mannerisms in bat wwx that human wwx would do, like rubbing his wing over his nose a lot, having human like expression and these squeaks that seem like laughter (and he of course gets scary or protective depending on who he's with) so he act like air puppy sometimes or shows his teeth at other times and he likes to wrap his wings over LWJs shoulders to have a full body rest
Yuyu: A living blanket
Sasu: mn, living blanket with claws
Yuyu: Lwj has learned not to voice this opinion out loud or the bat gets upset (A puppy! Of all things)
Sasu: kfhsgzcjfj hahaha- that’s just the term for fruit bats they’re nicknamed air puppies. I don't think LWJ would call him that, maybe some juniors tho haha
Yuyu: Jingyi
Sasu: pft haha Jingyi bonds with bat a-yuan nods the bat LWJ personally named Sizhui because he is small and reminds him of the little boy wwx once cared for owo
so a-yuan is a shoulder bat for Jingyi a lot when he's in his kid years
Jingyi says he's his best friend and has to be convinced to leave the bat at home when training dnhdgshsj
Yuyu: Mo Xuanyu lives in this? I can imagine him being absolutely infatuated with the bats, also hilarious if he looks at wwx bat for like 1 min and is just ... leans in whispering, Yiling Patriarch!?
Sasu: wwx, internally: that's my name don't wear it out
wwx, outside: angry bat flutters
how would he recognize tho
vkjdhdj hahaha
Yuyu: Haah love bats, wonderful stuff
Sasu: Bats are the best (❁´◡`❁) ❤

"But Now This Room Is Spinning"
Warnings: falling from a great height, head injury, blood, nausea, vomitting
Caretaker's stomach dropped as they watched Whumpee slide through the mud closer and closer to the edge of the cliff. They couldn't breathe as they watched Whumpee grapple with Whumper at the edge. And their heart stopped as they watched both Whumper and Whumpee tumble over the edge.
"NO!" They shouted as they darted forward, praying their worst fear hadn't been realized. Caretaker's mouth went dry as they peered over the cliff's edge. Whumper had very clearly taken the brunt of the fall, their broken body visible beneath Whumpee, though Whumpee lay still and unmoving as well.
"Hang on, hang on, I'm coming. I'm coming." Caretaker scrambled up through the mud, racing down the side of the hill, away from the cliff face. They had to get to Whumpee. Had to be sure.
Caretaker breathed a sigh of relief as they reached the bottom of the cliff and could see Whumpee's chest rise and fall. Whumpee was alive. "Whumpee!" Caretaker called as they carefully picked their way over through the rocks to where Whumpee lay across Whumper.
Whumpee groaned in response.
"Whumpee, say something. Anything!" Caretaker urged as they knelt down next to Whumpee.
"Any-any-anythingggg," Whumpee said through gritted teeth. Their brow was furrowed with pain and Caretaker could see blood dripping down their temple.
"If you're making jokes, I know you're fine enough to walk out of here," Caretaker said as they took Whumpee's arm. "Let's get you up so I can have a better look at you."
Whumpee grimaced as the opened their eyes. "B-B-Bright here-ere-ere."
Caretaker leaned over Whumpee more, blocking the weak autumn sunlight. "Better?"
Whumpee nodded and swallowed. Their face was ashen and they looked like they were turning green.
"Let's get you up and get your head between your knees, you look a little faint."
Whumpee cracked open their eyes once more. "Mkay."
Caretaker pulled Whumpee to sitting, bracing their arm across Whumpee's back. "Better?"
Whumpee's face paled further as they rested their head against Caretaker. "N-N-N-No," their voice barely above a whisper. They screwed their eyes shut once more.
"Are you dizzy?"
"Mhmmmmm," Whumpee hummed.
"How many fingers am I holding up?" The sinking sensation returned to Caretaker's gut as they tried to get Whumpee to engage.
"G-G-Gonnnnnnna hu-hu-hurllll," Whumpee suddenly jolted forward as they vomitted across the rocks. Caretaker rubbed soothing circles across Whumpee's back as Whumpee emptied the content of their stomach and then some.
"It's ok. It's ok," Caretaker murmured as Whumpee sputtered and coughed.
Whumpee weakly tried to wipe their mouth, their hand shaking too much to do much. Caretaker fished around in their pocket for a tissue, dabbing Whumpee's mouth carefully.
"Hurtsssss," Whumpee moaned.
"I know. Let's get you out of here." Caretaker didn't wait for Whumpee's response. Between the dizziness, bleeding, and vomitting, Caretaker knew that Whumpee's head injury had to be bad. Really bad. And that Whumpee needed help. Now.
Whumpee groaned again as Caretaker scooped them up. "Ssssssstopppppp," they whispered.
"Just hold on a little longer. Let's get to the car and then I'll put you down," Caretaker replied as they began to walk quickly in the direction of their car. "How does that sound?"
Whumpee didn't reply.
"Whumpee?" Caretaker couldn't keep the edge of panic out of their voice as Whumpee became a dead weight in their arms. "Hold on, Whumpee. Hold on." And Caretaker began to run.
