What did you do for the super blue moon? I didn’t do as much as I wanted (having a small baby will do that to your practice) but I did get some moon water (from rain water) that I am able to use in the future!

Cleansing, Charging, Warding & Banishing
Tumblr media
Cleansing
How to Cleanse
Find the target of your cleansing
Pick and appropriate method of cleansing
Hold your intention while cleansing. Stay focused and grounded
Follow up by filling the cleansed space with positive energy to avoid negative energies from coming back in
When to Cleanse
When you get a new tool
When a tool/room feels stale or off
When your tools or space come into contact with negative energy
Whenever your intuition tells you its time
Common Methods
Use the Elements Cleanse a room with water, fire, earth, or air. Soak or sprinkle with water, pass through flame or smoke, sprinkle or bury in dirt
Smoke Cleansing Use the smoke of herbs and plants to cleanse a space, item, or person. Pick herbs that correspond to your needs, light a bundle, and lead the smoke
Salt Salt will soak up all negative energies
Sun & Moonlight Let your item cleanse in the sunlight or moonlight, or open your windows to cleanse a space
Crystals Use corresponding crystals to cleanse a space or item. Carry them around to cleanse your spirit
Charging
How to Charge
Pick your target. Anything you want to fill with energy
Choose a method of charging that is appropriate for your item
Hold your intention while charging. Stay focused on transferring energy to the target item
Listen to your intuition. You’ll know when an item has been charged
When to Charge
After you cleanse a tool/item
When an item/tool doesn’t feel as potent or feels weak
When energy becomes stagnant
When you want an item to hold a certain intention/purpose
Charging Methods
Sun & Moonlight Set an object in the sun or moonlight to let it soak up that energy
Crystals Crystals that have been charged and cleansed can be used to charge other items
Elements Use the power of the elements to charge items metaphorically or literally
Visualization Picture your energy and intention flowing into your item and filling it with power
Herbs Charge an item with corresponding herbs by passing them through herb smoke, anointing with herbal oils, etc
Sound Use singing bowls, bells, or corresponding music to fill an item or space with energy
Banishing & Warding
What’s the Difference?
Warding is… a gentler form of defensive magic. It’s used in a general sense. Warding is used to protect and guard from negative energies. It is used to redirect energy away from you or your space.
Banishing is… far more specific and direct. It’s used to get rid of a particular energy, spirit, or person. Banishing is a very strong form of defensive magic.
Warding Methods
Guardians Create a guardian to guard your home or space from negative energies. Use a small object, enchant it with your intention, and keep it in a safe, permanent place.
Crystals Corresponding crystals can be worn as jewelry to protect against negative energy. Placing crystals in a room or around your house will create a protective barrier.
Salt Sprinkle salt around your doors and windows or make protection jars.
Herbs Burn protective herbs and pass the smoke through your space or tools or sprinkle herbal oils and tinctures on yourself and your space for protective barriers.
Visualization Use your intention and energy to visualize a powerful barrier of protecting light around yourself or your space.
Banishing Methods
Use the Elements Burn a slip of paper with your target's name on it. Throw a leaf with your target’s name on it into a running river. Burn corresponding herbs and pass the smoke through your space.
Candles Anoint your candles with corresponding herbs and oils, then burn it. When the candle has burned out, the banishing is complete
Sigils Make your own banishing sigil or find one that resonates with you. Place it in the space or on the item you are banishing energy from.
Herbs & Tinctures Use herbal smoke to force energy out of a space or object. Make a spray or herbal tincture to sprinkle around your home.

Taught myself how to restore rusted cast iron so I could revive this vintage cauldron my husband found! Right now she's a vessel for Halloween candy, but I'm very tempted to turn this into a tool for spellwork. 👀

The "Domestic Magics" and What It Means (To Me) To Be A Hearthkeeper
I’m a full time «NonTrad» Homemaker due to unfortunate health circumstance, turned accepted and celebrated life profession.
Religiously, spiritually, and magically, the Home itself is considered a sacred space to me (the third most sacred- following the Temple in all its forms, then the Garden). And since I cannot actually have children myself, I personally view the community as a substitute, and therefore as an extension of my Hearth. Community building and education, and related activities, are therefore likewise considered further extensions of these practices by proxy.
I heavily practice the traditional magical arts of Cottagecraft, Hearthcraft, Kitchencraft, and Greencraft as they're understood within the Traditional NeoWiccan religion and framework as a result; I use the parallel phrases 'Domestic Witchcraft' and 'Domestic Magics' as an umbrella to refer to a wide variety of individual subsets of Witchcraft and their related spells and rituals within my practice.
'Domestic' is defined thus:
(General) Pertaining to the home, household, household affairs, or family.
(Of A person) Devoted to home life, family life, or household affairs.
'Domestic Witchcraft' is therefore any collection of spells or rituals which have a foundation in (or around)- or an effect on- the home, as well as one’s family and guests.
Within NeoPaganism these individual practices of Cottagecraft, Hearthcraft, Kitchencraft, and Greencraft are unfortunately incorrectly conflated into one system at times. Typically under the moniker of “Cottagecraft” (or sometimes "Hearthcraft" or "Hedge Witch") as a catch-all. Personally, however, I dislike this penchant greatly as I feel each category is itself a unique specialization.
There may be overlap between each group due to the nature of sharing the same domestic focus. But they are still distinct areas of magic and focus, each. Specializing in one does not assume specialization in the others by proxy. I define each of the 'Domestic Magics' individually as follows, for this reason:
➻ Cottagecraft: A denomnative form of Domestic Witchcraft which is focused around the (general) interior of the Home and its Household inhabitants. This may include activities and spells with a heavy influence on crafting and DIY, home protection, familial harmony, household finances, budget Witchcraft, and similar things.
➻ Kitchencraft: A denomnative form of Domestic Witchcraft which is focused in and around the Kitchen itself, as a separate entity from the home as a whole. This may include activities and spells with a heavy influence on cooking, baking, food, and similar things- especially for harmony, healing, etc; does not focus strictly to the household, but can also focus on one's community.
➻ Hearthcraft: A denomnative form of Domestic Witchcraft which is focused on the Hearth or Fireplace, as a separate entity from the home as a whole. This may include spells and activities with a heavy influence on fire, warmth, comfort, protection, and similar things- but in a manner different than Cottagecraft. Especially through the use of fiber-based arts and crafts (such as sewing, knitting, or embroidery [sic]), and Ancestor and Spiritwork; like Kitchencraft, it does not focus strictly to the household, but can also focus on one's community.
➻ Greencraft: A denomnative form of Domestic Witchcraft which is focused in and around the Yard or general (immediate) exterior of the Home. This may include spells and activities with a heavy influence on crystals and plants, Herbalism (magical, spiritual, medicinal, or otherwise), gardening and / or landscaping (magical, spiritual, medicinal, or otherwise), connection with Plant Spirit Allies and Land Spirits, general connection with Earth Energies, ecoregional and bioregional studies, and similar things- but does not include animals.
If I really need a catch-all term for simplicity’s sake, then I call them the “Domestic Magics” as a way to retain their individual definitions while still using a generalized, all encompassing term which is relevant to their shared realm of material focus. And I call myself a "Hearthkeeper", personally, as a practitioner with a heavy primary emphasis on all such forms of Domestic Magics (rather than someone who only practices one or two).
Again, however: This has nothing to do with Hedgecraft. Hedgecraft is a form of witchcraft that deals with Spirits and the boundary between plains (ours and the Otherworld)- including, depending on the practitioner, practices such as the use of ritual Entheogens, ritual transformation, Skinchanging, and other actions. It is more closely allied with Traditional Witchcraft than it is Wicca and NeoWicca, and the Eclectic NeoPaganism that masquerades as such.
I am also a Hedge Witch. Hedge Witchcraft does not have anything to do with my Domestic Practice.
This account is run by a Dual Faith «(Converting) Masorti Jew + Traditional NeoWiccan» & «Ancestral Folk Magic Practitioner» with 20+ years of experience as a practicing Pagan and Witch. If that bothers you, don't interact.

Oranges
Tumblr media
I can't remember a holiday season without oranges.
From clementines to navel oranges, they've shown up in stockings and gift bags. You can use the fruit and peel in a variety of cute and ingenous ways to bring a little sunshine to your long winter.
Oranges are fruits of love, luck, and good fortune, so is it any wonder we gravitate to them so much? Gift them as a show of your devotion, or a wish for prosperity. Use the blossoms to grace your home with beauty and wealth. Above all, enjoy!

I finally deep cleaned my altar space with warm water, some lavender, lemon, and just a pinch of salt, and then set it up for October.
Not gonna lie, I can feel that area breathing again for the first time in weeks. I finally feel calm and inspired again when I look at my altar.
Now I'll need to slowly work my way around my home, too, and I think I might use that lavender-lemon-salt mix on a few more areas. Some vinegar as well. Especially the kitchen, bathroom, and my tiny hallway.
So many things need a serious deep-cleaning session, but I'll try to be patient and work according to my physical abilities.

This is my Type of Witches page. I just made this today so my hand is officially dead lol. I only included four types, I know there are more but the four I wrote about are the four paths I often am associated with or work in. I am really loving the split page theme I have been using, I might use it for the entirety of this BOS.

How to make Mozzerella VS how to make Paneer. Bonus, how to make butter.
Mozzerella is a non-aged cheese. You don't need rennet to make it. Take a half gallon of milk and add in 6 tbsp of vinegar (or 3 tbsp of lemon juice). Heat in a pot to 110F. Stir, until curds form.
If you had rennet to add, then you could do it at this stage. Cover and remove from heat and let sit for 10 minutes.
Strain and squeeze curds til you have a ball of cheese. Save the whey. Heat this cheese ball again -- either 30 seconds in the microwave, or 1 minute back in a warm bath of the remaining whey. Strain again, then fold and stretch your cheese a few times til you have a solid and smooth consistency. Refridgerate up to 2 weeks.
Paneer is also a non-aged cheese. This cheese is not meant to melt. Take 4 cups of heavy cream and heat in a pot to 194f. Stir occasionally. Add 3tsp of vinegar. Should begin to curdle at this stage. Make sure its completely curdled, add 1-2 more tsp of vinegar if nothing seems to be happening. Once fully curdled, switch off the heat. Strain completely, squeeze all of the whey out of the cheese. Rinse with room temp water. Leave strainer or hang cheesecloth bundle for about an hour. If you want the paneer to be firmer, leave in a press for 30 mins instead. The longer it sits though, the firmer it will be. Cut and store for 2-3 days or use right away.
Stinging Nettle Rennet as substitute for vinegar: How To Make Nettle Rennet For Cheesemaking - Cultures For Health
Butter is extremely simple to make. It's basically like uncooked cheese. Approx. 5 cups heavy cream in a jar -- a couple shakes of salt (optional) shake until the whey separates from the fats. You can get results within 15 mins. Strain -- rinse -- you have butter!

Does anyone know how to use essential oils to cleanse and protect a room?
tl;dr I need a cleansing and a shield in my room and I don’t have any other tools to use.
I don’t need a list of which ones to use, or how to charge them. I understand that part, quite well in fact! I already have some very nice sage oil.
I’ve just never used essential oils to cleanse a space before.
Any tips, methods, suggestions, resources, links, or otherwise practical information would be greatly appreciated!
It got a little long, so backstory and specific reasons to do this are going below the cut.
Long story short, I was put in a Terrible Situation by my family and had to move into the first place I could afford in 20 days or less. That place turned out to be a room rented from someone I’ve never met. And she is.... quite Christian. I don’t say this to be disparaging to Christians, but because historically, statistically, Christians don’t like it when you practice witchcraft in their house. I literally don’t have anywhere else I can go, so just in case she’d kick me out for it, I’m keeping myself “in the broom closet”, keeping the witchy stuff on the down-low.
So I’ve been trying to figure out how to: 1.) Cleanse the fuck out of this room, because I can FEEL the heaviness of multiple decades of emotions in the room and I’m sure this place has never been cleansed in its life. 2.) PROTECT the fuck out of the room, because this time of year, spirits follow me everywhere, and there’s a graveyard two blocks away. Also, I’m an empath and I need a shield up around this room so I can block others’ energies from reaching me when I’m trying to relax.
(I can and already have erected a personal shield, but it was hastily raised, and the Awareness of all the stuff that soaked into this room is distracting and a little overwhelming.)
Luckily I was at a fair this weekend and found someone selling homemade sage essential oils, which felt vibrantly Alive and Active to me, so I brought some home to use.
Except... I’ve never used oils for anything other than aromatherapy and ritual baths before.
How do you use an essential oil to cleanse a room, and how do you use them for shielding?
I imagine it involves applying it to windowsills and thresholds. But does anyone have any recommendations on HOW to apply it? Shapes to use? Amount to apply? Words or chants or mantras for protection?
And yes, I have asked Google, and got a bunch of suggestions for which kinds of oils to use (nifty, but not what I need), and how to use them for other things (yes, I know how aromatherapy works, thank you). NONE of the pages told me HOW to use an essential oil for protection!

I had a really sweet name prepared for the heartleaf philodendron that I got in trade today and this plant is not sweet.
lol
She seems like she wants to find and strangle something. I mean, I'm impressed and intrigued but...
Damn, girl. We are going to have to go in a completely different direction with her name.

Yesterday I found out at our Master Gardener meeting, that our Master Gardener Training Program (which just started this year's round of training a couple weeks ago; we've 9 students this year- one of whom is an old coworker of my Husband's who just retired, hilariously enough) got a brand new lecturer for their Vegetable Gardening module because the one I had last year finally retired.
As already trained Master Gardeners we're allowed to come sit in on classes for free (it's part of encouraging the students to join the organization after training's complete; they like us involved so they can talk to us and show we're not scary. It's a smart tactic, and one that worked on me). We were formally invited to sit in on next month's classes in particular. And next month is when the Vegetable Gardening module is.
I am 100% about to haze the new Lecturer with a million and one questions like I did to all of my Lecturers last year 😈 Zero shame.
But also I'm going to catch the Fruit module as well, because I actually did miss that module in my own training last year; it was the only class I missed, and I missed it because that was the only time I could get my MRI done on my Ankle when we were still trying to figure out what happened to it. It'll be nice to no longer have that gap in my training.
Tumblr media
Very late ETA: I did not wind up remembering about the class and therefore did not get to go "haze" the new teacher with all of my obnoxious questions. Really wanted to, though. So RIP me.
