Catradora travel Etheria 10/12 ⚡ Fright Zone⚡
"It was a strange feeling, seeing the Fright Zone I had always known in the midst of renovation and change. I thought I would just be happy, but there was grief there too. Mostly I kept thinking about how we made it, we survived, together."

♡ Send me a ship and I’ll tell you -- ik you're already doing Kataang so Korrasami please!
i love your spirit, anon, but i reblogged that version of the ship meme because i specifically entered a kataang shipping block. i felt my love for the pairing dwindle more and more each day, so i reblogged with a series of headcanons. shipping something detested by fandom AND overlooked is not for the weak, i’ll tell you that! i needed to rediscover my love for the ship.
however, i will do this version of the meme for korrasami. because while kataang makes me feel an emotional rollercoaster on a daily basis, korrasami helps to uplift my spirits.
when i started shipping it if i did: no one has any idea what it was like to get korrasami representation during a time in which bury your gays was so prominent. i have their final scene memorized and can recite it by heart.
my thoughts and what makes me happy about them: korra and asami are two characters from two different walks of life that complement each other soooooo well. I love their romantic rivals to reluctant allies to friends to best friends to lovers arc so much, as censored as it was. i think their relationship definitely represents the core of the series’ prominent themes. as mentioned, korrasami was extremely vital to pave the way for sapphic media, especially in animation. it’s because of korrasami did we get ships such as catradora and lumity. also, it’s a great ship because this rich girl who is all about technology and industry, who emotionally represses herself on a daily basis, meets the avatar, a living spiritual entity, who is expressive and volatile at times. it’s a beautiful love story.
what makes me sad about them: the fact that asami’s character wasn’t given the depth it deserved (robbed of that equalist asami storyline) and the fact that they were so censored. i wish these two belonged to a better show with more competent writers - they would both be given the justice that they deserved.
things done in fanfic that annoys me: I don’t read korrasami fanfic, so i can’t comment. but things that i have seen in fandom spaces that i hate is when korra is turned into this bimbo, unintelligent type of character that cannot do basic things for the life of her and requires asami’s help. did we watch the same show? korra may have made rash decisions, but she’s not dumb. also, dudebros need to stay the hell away from the two of them because when they’re not calling the ship rushed and forced or being homophobic, they’re fetishizing the fuck out of them and erasing their canon bisexuality.
things i look for in fanfic: i suppose if i were to read korrasami, i’d love to read soft, quiet fanfics where they spend a quiet a morning or afternoon together.
who I’d be comfortable with them ending up together, if not each other: they should always end up together! just kidding - i would also love korra with opal; they’d be very cute. and asami would be fine with anyone imo, as long as it’s not mako.
my happily ever after for them: married long into their 80s, 90s, 100s. i see them having one child tbh (mako being a sperm donor is a headcanon that i will die on) and that child growing up to have grandchildren and so forth. also for them to be very close to kataang’s family ❤️
who is the big spoon/little spoon: asami is the big spoon and korra is the little spoon!
what is their favourite non-sexual activity: travelling, whether it’s on naga or asami’s plane.

how did u come up with the initial ideas for ur fics ?? :3
I'll reply with my current multichapter fics bc my oneshots are mostly... Sudden ideas I get, such as Keeping Promises being a fic I wrote in one sitting after finishing Unleashed bc I was inspired. XD (Or I wrote the first draft in one sitting but you know-)
DNA Collision: I absolutely adore when people draw Shadow with more alien-like features, such as giving him yellow scleras, tiny scales, or a third eye! But the fanart made me think... What if there was a reason Shadow looked like that/more alien, especially considering that he didn't originally even know he's half alien. My original idea was that Eggman would do something that would make him mutate, but then I thought it might be a bit of a lazy choice, plus then fixing it would be a lot easier because they'd already know the cause. My bestie came up with the idea that it would happen suddenly while Shadow was racing/using Chaos Control, and I liked that idea. (I can't tell how/why it happens since that's a spoiler, but you'll find out eventually ehehe). I like aliens, sci-fi, and body horror (although I don't wanna make the body horror parts too graphic in the fic but still. It's a part of it), but there's also metaphors etc. in it. I'll probably talk more about those once I finish the fic, because for now I want readers to make their own interpretations and speculations >:3
Prophecy of Chaos: The ship I was super obsessed with before Sonadow was Catradora, and since I tend to like certain types of dynamics, I kinda noticed lots of similarities between them XDD (I mean, they're a snarky hero with a heart of gold and their former enemy with a traumatic backstory) I think I also saw a tumblr post where someone pointed out that the way Boom!Shadow acts is like a bitter ex/former childhood best friend, and that made me think... What would Sonic and Shadow be like if they had been childhood best friends who had a falling out? I think I jokingly told my friends like "what if I made an AU that's kinda like the premise of She-Ra but with Sonadow" but then I actually got invested in it. It just works so well with Sonic characters and Sonic lore, with the whole chosen one thing and friendship being a big theme in both series. My bestie @tillytilli had lots of suggestions for the AU, and then I asked if they'd like to be a co-creator. Plus with two people working on it made it possible for us to make several illustrations for each chapter; usually three art pieces for each chapter, one by me, one by Tilli and one being a collab between us. So yeah, the premise and some elements are inspired by She-Ra, but the plot will differ a lot since we didn't want it to just be a retelling of that story, we wanted to also make it our own story. Plus we haven't really assigned the characters certain roles (except the obvious ones, like Sonic having Adora's role, Shadow Catra's, Infinite Shadow Weaver's, and Eggman Hordak's. But even some of those are a bit mixed, especially between Sonic and Shadow) because we felt like it would limit the characters too much, and we wanted them to be themselves first and foremost if that makes sense? (So like. You don't need any knowledge of She-Ra to read the fic. Sonic knowledge is more important since there's lore and references XD)
Impactful Skip: I came up with the idea around the time the sneak peek of Sonic and Nine in Sonic Prime came out. Since Nine was a traumatized child because he never met Sonic, it made me think... How would Tails turn out if he had had Sonic, and then lost him? Because he would know what he was missing. Sonic and Tails are so close that I feel like neither of them would be the same if they lost each other. I think I was also subconsciously inspired by that one episode of Futurama where Fry has to test the time machine with Bender and the Professor so he's late from his date with Leela, but the time travel goes wrong and Leela thinks he's dead. (This scene especially always BREAKS me) I didn't like... Actively think about that episode while thinking about the premise, but then I remembered it after a while and was like OH. Another inspiration for it was that one tumblr post I can't find sadly but it was like... "Why would you tell a post-apocalyptic story if not to show the kindness of humanity?" And it's a big part of Impactful Skip, because while Tails has turned against all his friends, his friends still stick together and try to find hope and kindness towards one another even in a world with barely any hope left.
Thank you for asking! I'm really enthusiactic about these stories so I'm always happy to explain about them! ✨✨

Saw someone praising the little gems of Vash-whump in Ao3′s Trigun Stampede section, while complaining that they have to sift through a lot of the stuff they aren’t into to get there.  I relate.   Didn’t reblog / reply to them specifically because I thought that I would be seen as weird.  It’s just, I’ve realized that I have very specific tastes* in this fandom.  I have officially written my first Stampede-based fic:  A story about Rem being a good mom.  I have A SHITTON of old Trigun fic from my fandom years ago that I am thinking of going over, editing where necessary and posting.  Most of them aren’t the kind of “usual fandom-pleasers,” either, but kind of specific things.  Like, there’s this one I wrote about an OC who sees Vash as a hero and sets out to live by Vash’s ideals only to find out that he can’t... I wrote that for an erstwhile friend.  Was NOT a “Reader x” or a self-insert, was just a random guy.  I have...ghost stories, including an alternate manga-ending.  I have a hard horror involving Midvalley doing something truly horrific with his murder-music.  One of my early ‘98 anime specific stories involved “Knives wins, but ends up killing Vash in the process, regrets it, decides to travel across the lonely planet to bury him next to his friends.”   I wonder which of my old fics the new fandom would like to see...  In any case.... as I’ve said before... sometimes when a ship is really popular in a fandom, I’ll tune it out like background-noise.  I even do this with ships I like.  I mean... in my other fandoms, I’ve written a bit of catradora and zelink, but most of the time I’m like “boring,” and pass up others’ fics because they’re dominating.  And then with, well, I’ve never vibed with vashwood.  I’ve always seen them as a brotp, not an otp.  Plantcest is too...rapey...for me (and when people transform it to make it consensual, it weirds me out. I won’t bother you, just not my thing).  I’m honestly wondering where doublewood / wolffang is at, I haven’t seen it, I thought I would by now... the “Reader / Vash” stuff is kind of cute, but I’m not huge into indulgent self-inserts, they never feel true enough to the world for me.   I feel like entering this fandom again I’m going to be kind of lonely in my fanfiction-tastes.   *Not like I haven’t been before... I mean, over in She-Ra fandom, I wrote a bunch of stories about a couple of Horde-clones (members of the random mook-race that shows up at the end of the series) and instead of writing them being adorable and being doctors and cooks like everybody else who wrote this stuff did, my OCs were undertakers.  Fire Emblem: Awakening fandom, of which I was briefly a part?  I was passionate about the rarepair of Lissa x Libra because I’d set it up in one of my games...  I wrote an extensive Super Smash Bros. / Hunger Games crossover UNIVERSE once.  I wrote a huge-ass Legend of Zelda Western (that was heavily inspired by Trigun), so... yeeeeep... I write (and prefer to read) some weird, hyperspecific things.

How 'She-Ra' Delivered on Queer Promises and Helped Revolutionized LGBTQ Representation
Tumblr media
DreamWorks's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power has already cemented its place among the short but rapidly growing list of children’s animated shows with impactful LGBTQ representation. Showrunner Noelle Stevenson made it a point to push and fight for more diverse characters in every aspect from race, to personality, to sexual and gender identity. However, the finale of the GLADD Award-nominated program delivered on a revolutionary promise built up throughout all five seasons and completed one of the greatest queer narratives ever seen in children’s media.
Tumblr media
As She-Ra progressed, Stevenson became more encouraged and inspired to pressure executives to allow more and more explicit LGBTQ characters and relationships. While ever-present in the series, season one only featured a background couple, Spinnerella (Noelle Stevenson) and Netossa (Krystal Joy Brown), and of course, the famous dance sequence between Catra (AJ Michalka) and Adora (Aimee Carrero). While this amount of representation is comfortably leagues ahead of the vast majority of cartoons, the show only upped the ante and the amount of representation from there. Season 2 introduced viewers to George (Chris Jai Alex) and Lance (Regi Davis), Bow's fathers. The series presents them in a normalized fashion as a happy gay couple in love that built a family together. Jacob Tobia's non-binary Double Trouble featured heavily in season four, making them one of the first non-binary characters in children's animation and one of the first to holding an integral role in the show, a major step in representing such identities.
Tumblr media
The many achievements and strides She-Ra in LGBTQ representation featured in She-Ra will doubtlessly affect other projects in the industry and help further programs walk a similar path. However, the greatest queer story inShe-Ra is the spectacular series-long arc exploring the relationship and dynamics between de facto antagonist Catra and protagonist Adora. The former friends, who grew up together in the ranks of the Horde, turn enemies at the start of the series after Adora gains the power of She-Ra and betrays Catra, joining the Rebellion.
Tumblr media
Fans quickly began speculating on the nature of Adora and Catra's relationship during season one, mainly because of the Princess Prom dance scene. After the young women shared a charged and sinister dance, fans quickly began supporting and analyzing "Catradora." The next three seasons would gradually and gracefully define both characters' complicated feelings for each other. Initially, Catra attempts to rationalize Adora's leaving as a relief or else forces herself to appear apathetic towards it. She continuously uses the excuse that she is no longer living under Adora's shadow to gradually build up more power, rising through the ranks of the Horde while stepping on those who helped her.
While Catra's motivations are appropriately layered and complex, it becomes clear that she is attempting to win approval, to be less alone than she has felt since Adora abandoned her. She seeks others' approval, including her abusive maternal figure, Shadow Weaver (Lorraine Toussaint), and the cruel Hordak (Keston John). However, Catra does not realize until confronted by Double Trouble's gut-wrenching and emotionally resonating analysis of her psyche. They inform Catra that the reason she is alone and abandoned, she pushes others away. The realization that her problems and loneliness are by her own doing combine with her guilt for betraying her allies Scorpia (Lauren Ash) and Entrapta (Christine Woods), leads Catra to an emotional breakdown.
Tumblr media
Thee fifth and final season of She-Ra opens with Catra still plagued by loneliness and self-doubt. She starts to form a bond with Prime's captor Glimmer (Karen Fukuhara), seeing her guilt reflected by Glimmer's regret for trying to use the Heart of Etheria's power. Eventually, Catra learns about Adora's impending rescue attempt and the villainous Prime's plants to capture her once she arrives. Ultimately, all the feelings and circumstances surrounding Catra clash together as she remembers a childhood promise that she and Adora would always be friends. The revelation that she loves Adora finally causes Catra to turn and do "one good thing," protect Adora. She frees Glimmer to prevent Adora from walking into Prime's trap; thus, Catra becomes the Horde's prisoner.
Adora's character arch is much less tragic than Catra. The "frenemies" clash multiple times throughout the early seasons with an ever-shifting dynamic that hints at their intricate relationship and confused romantic feelings. But, at the end of season three, Catra's reckless plan against Adora almost leads to Eternia's destruction. As Catra taunts and blames Adora for her suffering, Adora seemingly ends their conflicted relationship, noting that Catra's misdeeds are all her own, "You made your choice, now live with it."
Tumblr media
In the final season, Adora has lost the powers of She-Ra. But, she continues to charge into battle headfirst, exposing herself and her tendencies to put other's wellbeing before her own. This tactic mirrors why Adora left Catra's side in the first place all the way back in the first season. She places more importance on duty and service to others than herself and her friend. Later, while Adora, Bow (Marcus Scribner), and Entrapta are traveling towards Horde Prime, Catra sends a signal to their ship, apologizing for everything she has done while teleporting Glimmer to them. Adora decides that she cannot leave Catra behind, and the Best-Friend Squad hurries to rescue Catra from the Horde. Adora saves Catra not only from Prime's vile clutches but her loneliness too. Adora's exclamation "You matter to me" is a powerful and victorious moment, as the two friends turned enemies unite, and acknowledge their connection.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, even after the Adora and Catra are together again, conflict continues to rise between them and with themselves. Catra feels unlovable because of her past and so convinces herself that Adora will not accept her feelings. She continues to struggle with abandonment, especially when Adora willingly takes the responsibility of a suicide mission to destroy the Heart of Etheria, yelling, "It doesn't always have to be you." Sadly, Adora again abandons her, putting the good of everyone else above herself and Catra. Acknowledging that Adora, "Always sacrifices everything for everyone else," Catra runs away. However, upon realizing that Prime is moments away from taking control of the Heart and killing Adora, Shadow Weaver and her run to rescue the girl she loves.
Tumblr media
As Adora journeys to the Heart, she sees and an illusion of Catra, envisioning that her friend meets her to approach the suicide mission together. Soon, Adora faces a vision of Mara (Zehra Fazal), the previous She-Ra, who tells her that she does not always need to sacrifice herself and is deserving of love too. She becomes trapped without her powers by a first-ones' guardian until Catra and Shadow Weaver save her. Telling Adora to go on, Catra stays to fight the beast in vain. Moments before destroying the Heart and herself, Adora finally chooses to return to Catra, to put Catra and her own happiness over her sense of duty.
Tumblr media
As Adora and Catra approach the Heart, the former almost succumbs to Prime's power and has one final vision. Adora dreams of living a life in peace in Brightmoon alongside her friends, Glimmer and Bow, and with her loving, playful partner Catra by her side. In the apparent final moments before her death, Catra reaches out to Adora. At last, the two confess their love for each other and embrace in a momentous kiss, restoring She-Ra's power to Adora. Renewed in strength and standing beside her beloved, Adora finally destroys Horde Prime. The series ends as Adora and Catra plan to travel together and restore magic to the universe and fades to black as the couple prepares to take their next journey together.
Tumblr media
as Adora and Catra plan to travel together and restore magic to the universe and fades to black as the couple prepares to take their next journey together.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power has always been a powerhouse of LGBTQ representation, especially the final season. For example, it heavily features former background characters and married couple Spinnerella and Netossa in leading roles, as Netossa attempts to recover her wife’s mind from Prime. However, the relationship between Catra and Adora is not only the series highlight but a revolutionary in LGBTQ representation in children's television.
Tumblr media
LGBTQ history in children's media and cartoons is disappointingly brief and, at times, unpleasant. Early examples mostly featured coded queer characters with harmful and stereotypical traits, such as the Silver Spooner from Dexter's Laboratory. Some works were able to include less harmful depictions. Networks allowed characters like Richie from Static Shock, who is gay, to exist as long as their identity was kept extremely subtextual.
Slowly some more limited progress was made, and a few less offensive or hidden characters were permitted to appear in one-off and minor roles. Nelvana's Canadian animated sitcom, 6teen included many vague but most neutral references to homosexuality and eventually a one-off character Jean, who says that she is "gay" and has a girlfriend. Notably, this 2009-episode marks not only one of the first moments of a character confirming their sexuality but also using the word "gay." This feat is so rarely replicated even in LGBTQ family media that even giants like Steven Universe do not include it. Outside of pedantic educational programs on minor networks, it may be the only time someone said "the-G-word" in such media until 2019's Kippo and the Age of Wonderbeasts  (live-action sitcom Andi Mack on Disney Channel also used the term that year). Sadly, American showings cut 6Teen's references to homosexuality, and the episode featuring Jean never aired at all outside Canada.
Tumblr media
When most people look back to the beginning of the recent small boom in cartoon LGBTQ representation, they point to The Legend of Korra. In 2014, the series finally ended with female leads Korra and Asami taking hands and going on a private vacation in the spirit world. The Korra moment set the LGBTQ fandom on fire. Even so, the show faced incredible resistance and backlash. After the final episode aired, creator Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino had to go online to confirm that the somewhat ambiguous finale indeed depicted a same-sex romance. They then began to face backlash from a section of the fandom who believed bringing this badass bisexual moment to television was only for fanservice or to forward an agenda.
Tumblr media
The Legend of Korra was a revolution in modern children's television, putting cracks in the oppressive dam that kept such dynamics out of the limelight and slowly pushed back against the status quo, allowing for more LGBTQ representation. Now, over five years after Korra, numerous children's programs feature queer characters in minor and supporting roles, often more explicitly than Korra was able to do. The Loud House includes a main bisexual character, and there are queer characters and couples in multiple works, including but not limited to Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, and Craig of the Creek.
Tumblr media
The most notable LGBTQ representation in a children's cartoon comes from Rebeca Sugar's incredible creation, Steven Universe. As with She-Ra, LGBTQ characters make up a large portion of the cast and it features several groundbreaking LGBTQ scenes, including the iconic wedding of Ruby and Sapphire.
Tumblr media
Sadly, many of these works had to fight tooth and nail or suffer through horrific backlash because of their dedication to diversity. Alabama banned an episode of Arthur that featured a gay wedding, and the depiction of lesbian mothers in Clifford the Bid Red Dog caused some parents and organizations to speak out against it. Perhaps most famous of all, Rebecca Sugar had to struggle to put LGBTQ representation on the small screen. Ultimately, to make the wedding scene happen, Sugar had to lay everything on the table and was willing to see themselves separated from the show and have it end to bring their vision to life. Unfortunately, many other countries censor the show to remove LGBTQ content. Still, Sugar's tireless work has pushed the boundaries of LGBTQ representation in children's media so incredibly far, allowing shows like She-Ra to exist.
Tumblr media
The recent rapid progress of LGBTQ representation becomes apparent when comparing She-Ra to the "originator," Korra. The series share similar themes and mutually place importance on diversity in its main cast. At the climax of both programs, two female main characters became romantic partners for the other. However, the differences are what truly sets them apart and highlights the progress representation has made. Back in 2014, holding hands and staring into each other's eyes was the most action Korra could feature.
However, a myriad of queer characters and identities perforate She-Ra, all of which are more apparent and obvious thanks to actions including kisses, confessions, and other actions. This difference is especially true in season five, where even the title cards feature Netossa and Spinnerella engaged in a passionate kiss. Of course, the main couple was permitted a full on-screen confession and kiss, as Catra and Adora locked lips in the final episode. Finally, many "critics" complained that Korra and Asami's relationship came out of nowhere, despite it progressing the show’s last two seasons. If one were to assert the same claim about She-Ra, they need to completely ignore how Stevenson built Adora and Catra's romantic relationship as a fundamental aspect of the show from the very start.
Tumblr media
She-Ra's depiction of queer characters was deliberate, explicit, and incredible. Not only did LGBTQ side characters express their identities in a variety of ways, but the main couple also got to show their love with both words and a kiss. Furthermore, and perhaps even more importantly, the main couple in She-Ra got a happen ending and a future for them and the viewers to imagine and look towards with excitement. Sadly, many LGBTQ characters and couples do not get to experience such conclusions. For decades, queer relationships ended in tragedy, often with the death of one or more queer characters killed off as part of the "bury your gays" trope. Even if the characters live, narratives rarely provided a happy future for those with queer identities. Sadly, this trend is alive and well. Recent examples include Adam from Voltron: Legendary Defender and Annika and Neha from The Dragon Prince.
Tumblr media
Stevenson actively set out to avoid this trope in She-Ra, telling the Los Angeles Times, "I can't see another gay character die on TV for the moment." Not only did she not kill Adora and Catra, or any of the show's other queer characters, she gave Adora and Catra, the two lesbian leads in love, a happy ending. The show even offers viewers and Adora a glimpse of one possible future for the couple in the final vision of domestic bliss in Brightmoon. Both Adora and Catra struggle and suffered greatly, but they were allowed a happy ending and the opportunity to look forward to a life together. For the two main characters of a children's cartoon to achieve such a fantastic ending in such an explicit way is a genuinely revolutionary moment of representation, proudly standing alongside defining scenes like and Ruby and Sapphire’s wedding in Steven Universe. Importantly, both shows are made by queer creators, showing young viewers that people like them can achieve and create great things and that there are those out there fighting for them. For these reasons, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is one of the single most significant works of LGBTQ representation in children's media.
Tumblr media
Queer representation in children's media matters so much, likely more than it does in any other medium. It normalizes LGBTQ identities for families and sends a powerful message to all LGBTQ children who may be feeling sad or alone or sacred: 'You are not alone, you matter, and you are accepted.' These words, implied with every positive depiction of queer identities, save so many children and young adults from unnecessary suffering and sometimes even saves lives. Noelle Stevenson and She-Ra will likely create giant waves in the medium just as Steven Universe did before it, and generations of queer people, myself included, wait with bated breath to see what results from it.

the fact that we textually got the same or more than korrasami but bc of fandom politics korrasami is perceived as undoubtedly canon and destiel is perceived as “only canon if ur a shipper” is so sad sjdjdjdmd sorry this is random but i was just thinking about it
this is deeply embarrassing because talking about the legend of korra finale makes me cry so you should know I’m powering through this response in an emotional state.
the surface reading here is correct but when it comes to specifics I think korrasami deserves substantially more credit that this estimation gives it. korrasami was never queerbait — quite honestly, as someone who shipped it at the time, there was NO possibility in my mind we would ever “win.” it was just cute! it was enough that we knew they would make a good couple and we felt kind of superior that we “cracked” the show with a reading that amicably resolved the stilted love triangle hoisted upon us all the way back at the season 1 finale (it’s important to remember that legend of korra was CONSTANTLY in danger of being canceled throughout its run; the makorra season 1 finale kiss was pushed through despite the lack of build-up because the animators weren’t sure they were getting a season 2). up until the series finale, even noting the deepening relationship depicted between korra and asami throughout book 4 and mako’s disavowal of intentions to pursue a future relationship with korra as made clear in “remembrances,” it was simply not a consideration that korrasami could go canon — there were no lgbt characters on children’s cartoons! gay marriage wasn’t legal! though atla may have ended by confirming kataang, they weren’t required to end the show by canonizing any sort of pairing. and they didn’t need to! it’s korra’s story.
I realize the final episode of legend of korra in the current media landscape might not look like much, but if you can imagine what it was like at the time! gratifying! boundary pushing! a dream come true! and if there was any remaining question about what the last scene implied, co-creators bryan konietzko and michael dimartino both confirmed that korrasami was canon, with the notable caveat (from bryan)
Was it a slam-dunk victory for queer representation? I think it falls short of that, but hopefully it is a somewhat significant inching forward.
it’s a little cringe but this pbs idea channel video (which I probably watched the week it came out) does a good job recapping the mechanics at play. and since the series made it to netflix there has been even more discussion of its impact and the ways in which other tv shows have benefitted from korrasami. the levee broke! mr. ratburn got married! catradora kissed! all in part because korra and asami walked hand in hand into their new life together.
as far as comparisons to destiel go, this should be apparent, but the clear consequential difference to me is that the creators were willing to own and discuss their decisions. bryke were not obligated to address the stipulations of korra and asami’s relationship, but they chose to and they allowed for korrasami to become bigger than just the show. and both of the actresses have been relentlessly positive about the ship! this is not a matter of fandom politics, it’s really just that the authority on what supernatural means remains disputed territory even to the point that its own writers will not talk about the explicit canonical gay love confession of one of their characters after over a DECADE of malicious baiting! it would not have been hard for them to make themselves the hero here and yet they simply chose to sidestep all of it. for like the millionth time on this blog I have to say, again, that the way we win is just by continuing to insist we have the authority. because we do! we always do but especially in the show where authorgod visits a fanfic writer literally to discuss his shitty series finale.
all of that accounted for, the note I want to end on is that this poem remains one of my favorites,
The beloved body that bore you across any distance wept, I wish the earth only moved when I let it.                                             My life, standing still despite this fact                        is, too, an act of defiance.                               It is not the moon’s light that demands our praise                                        but the distance it travels                                                                                to reach us.

Random She-Ra Season 5 Thoughts: THE FINAL RAMBLING
Yep. I finally got all my crazy absurd thoughts about this gay adventure-romance-drama cartoon summarized into one incoherent yet fun to read computer document/article! ...four months after the show itself ended. Oh well, no one’s perfect. Anyways, there are a whole lot more insane observations than ever before, so I had to put it below a link so this thing didn’t back up my blog or any of yours. Hope you enjoy reading through these as much I enjoyed spouting them for no discernible reason other than I felt like it!
-I feel that since is the last season, I ought to talk about an important part of the show that I’ve been putting off: the animation. It’s… okay. It’s definitely smoother than what the original 80’s show and it’s brother series (heheh) looked like, but at the same time it still seems to suffer from similar limitations which causes some distracting moments of stiffness. But other than that, it’s pretty good. It’s no Titmouse or Studio Mir but it looks good and it gets the job done.
-After all, let’s not forget: “Imperfection is beautiful!”
-Even when things are at their lowest, Adora is a jock with a heart of gold.
-Horde Prime and the Galactic Horde’s aesthetic feels like a mixture of Catholicism, Scientology, Heaven’s Gate, and modern Microsoft, and honestly, that just makes him creepier.
-Speaking of Horde Prime, he didn’t waste any time with destroying Bright Moon. …apparently.
-Furthermore, on the topic of his giant holographic messages, WAS THAT A FREAKING MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE MOVIE REFERENCE?!
-Boy, Glimmer and Catra sure got along quickly! It’s almost like they magically understand each other because they both assumed leadership roles and screwed up big time! …I guess.
-Either that or this season is going to be a speedrun.
-Wow, the Rebellion sure got used to having a once-thought-dead king as well as a known enemy general/abuser running around their camp awful fast, didn’t they?
-Mara’s got a spaceship, a cyber girlfriend, a magic grandma, a dragon, a tragic backstory, AND a force ghost?! Dang, even in death, the girl’s got it all. No wonder everyone likes her!
-(*me looking at the TV rating at the start of episode*) “Why is language in there? Is there surprise cuss words or something in this season?” (*sees Horde Prime seize control of a clone for the first time*) “HOLY FREAKING SH—oh that’s why.”
-Applause to the crew for making the “dinner with Prime” scene for making a meal between a sparkly princess, a catgirl, and alien cult leader feel even more uncomfortable than it had a right to.
-(*me throughout the season whenever a clone was onscreen*) Is that Hordak? Is that him? Is that him? Is that him right there? Oh it is—oh no wait. … Is that h—
-Extra applause for having Glimmer learn from her grey-area wetwipe phase and refusing to sell out her friends again whilst telling the imperialist cult leader where to stick it.
-I would pay a sizeable portion of my life savings to hear what a Scorpia and Swift Wind duet would sound like.
-In fact, I’d double it if it was just Scorpia singing.
-Ah what the heck. I would triple it for an entire She-Ra musical!
-As happy as I am to see to see Entrapta interacting with the other princesses again, I have to say that their big reunion left me with some mixed feelings. Here’s a quick rundown:
-Entrapta, a grown autistic woman, being led around on a leash by non-neurodivergent teenagers—again: that’s bad.
-The Princesses confronting Entrapta about joining the Horde: that’s good!
-The Princesses blaming all their problems with the Horde bots on Entrapta’s actions and her hyper fixations alone: that’s bad.
-Entrapta explaining herself, admitting that she regrets her mistakes, and getting the Princesses to understand that she thinks and communicates differently, but in spite of that, she really does want help find Glimmer: that’s good!
-Entrapta never gets to call out the Princesses for how poorly they treated her: that’s bad.
-Entrapta saves the day and goes to space: that’s good!
-Scorpia and Entrapta still haven’t interacted even though the former is with the Rebellion in the first place because she went to look for her because she is her best friend: …can I go home now?
-How nice! Michah finally got to shapeshift!
-And he’s rocking that She-Ra outfit to boot!
-So is Darla a back up of Light Hope or do they just run on the same operating system and have the same voice?
-I could watch an entire season of Adora, Bow, and Entrapta going on space adventure in a rundown ship with their custom-made spacesuits, tbh.
-Is anyone else weirded out that Catra’s younger self looked at her in her flashback(?).
-Actually what WAS happening there, anyhow?
-(*watching Bow’s spacewalk to save Glimmer*) “Is that a Gravity reference?” asked the man who never saw Gravity.
-Speaking of spacewalks, how did Glimmer survive those precious few seconds in space? Does the teleporter teleport a breathable atmosphere too?
-Also, Catra, WHY did you think it would be a good idea to teleport Glimmer into space? I know you had a plan and the ship was right there but… Ah, never mind.
-Not that I’m complaining but Glimmer’s apology to the rest of the friend squad for her HORRIBLE plan last season went… surprisingly quickly.
-You know as cool as The Star Siblings are, being a quirky band of space-travelling siblings with cool powers and some trans rep to boot, I only have one small problem with them: weren’t there already Star Sisters on Etheria back in season 1?
-That doesn’t sound right, but I don’t know enough about Masters of the Universe characters to dispute it.
-Entrapta confirmed pan, objectum, AND horny on main. Dang girl, you’re gonna have fun whether you got Hordak back or not…
-“The Velvet Glove” is both a menacing and stupid name for a decadent overlord’s mothership.
-Wait, it’s from the 80’s canon? Oh. That kind of explains it, actually.
-Goshdangit, I wanted Catra to face punishment for her crimes, but I didn’t think that would involve going to evil alien conversion therapy!
-Nor did I want her to die! For a second. Actually, since it obviously wasn’t going to last I was… weirdly okay with that part???
-Horde Prime seems awfully okay with Catradora. I mean he’s still super creepy and manipulative about it, but also oddly progressive for an evil brainwashing cult leader.
-(*Adora transforms into a She-Ra through seer will*) First of all, called it. Second of all, WOAH MAMA now that’s a glow up!
-Wrong Hordak did not have to be a thing, and yet, I’m glad that he is.
-Hordak remembers the LUVD crystal and Entrapta… Hordak remembers Entrap—! It’s happening! Oh my gosh, it’s happening! Everybody stay calm!
-Wow, Entrapta didn’t have to be so forgiving of Catra for everything she’s done to her but she did. Only I’m not sure if that was Entrapta taking the high road or the low road.
-Or which road the crew took for that matter.
-I remember when I thought those “Chipped AUs” floating around here on tumblr were just something the fans came up with and that chipping people was not an actual despicable thing Prime does in canon. I miss those days.
-I know it’s not the same as before or the original design, but True She-Ra’s designs and powers? I think they slappin’.
-Hooray, Adora and Catra are finally making up! And it only took four and half seasons worth of communication failures, toxic villainous behaviour, and physical violence for Catra to snap out of it!
-…We can go back to Entrapdak now, right?
-Poor Elberon. First they unknowingly adopt a double agent then get invaded by the Horde and now they’re getting brainwashed and chipped by the Galactic Horde. They might be a cute village, but they got some pretty lousy security.
-You know it’s cute that Micah is doing his best to be friends with Frosta and get back in touch with his dad-side, but look I can’t be the only one worried about how the local King is a less proactive leader than the princesses or the known war criminal/abuser, right?
-“The Perils of Peekablue” or as I like to call it, “You Thought ‘Boys Night Out’ Caught You Emotionally Off-guard? Hah! Watch This.”
-You know I didn’t think Scorpfuma would be a thing aside that one moment of flirting near the end of season 4, but they really pushed for it to be a thing! This is… actually pretty great! Perfuma’s not perfect, and I would have appreciated giving them a little more time to bond and form some real chemistry, but at least she reciprocates Scorpia’s sweetness instead of rebuffing it in increasingly aggressive fashion.
-I’m not sure what’s more concerning: that Mermista set a boat on fire, that it’s worded like she had a fling as part of some experimental phase, or that Sea Hawk is turned on by this.
-Peekablue might not be real, (I think?) but he is one dapper dude! Female-to-male redesigns could learn a thing or two from him.
-It involved them getting stung and seizuring, but that was a heck of a way to reintroduce Double Trouble! I swear I got watching them cycle through their transformations in some sort of physical reaction.
-Or maybe that was just me worrying about their wellbeing…
-Okay, I get the Chips are huge, and actually rather clever threat, but how do these characters get chipped in the first place? I get there are chipped people who spread the chips throught the population but where do they get those from???
-Do one of those Horde Prime drones just sneak behind someone, slap a chip on their nape then hand them a whole bagfull and say, “Beep boop beep, Horde Prime’s Light, blah blah blah. Alright have fun, kiddo”?
-Or is it some sort of Alien: Covenant deal where they’re just floating around and Lord help you if one sticks to you?
-HOLY CRAP THEY ACTUALLY GOT SCORPIA TO SING! AND SHE WAS GREAT!
-Oh shoot. Guess I owe the crew twice my life savings now…
-Entrapdak might be what got me into this show, but it’s Double Trouble that kept me around, so you can imagine how happy I was to see them make their grand reappearance!
-Conversly, you can imagine my disappointment when they just disappeared until the finale.
-And on that note: HOW DID YOU GUYS LOSE DOUBLE TROUBLE?!
-You forgot to cherish them, didn’t you?
-So, Scorpia sacrifices herself just after finding a new girlfriend and gaining some newfound confidence, Mermista and Sea Hawk are split up,and Double Trouble didn’t join the main cast. Why can’t you just have fun like a normal cartoon, show?
-Gosh, I love me some shifting title cards!
-Is it just me or did they sneak in some more Annihilation references on Krytis?
(-Said the guy who was too chicken to watch the movie and just read about it and watched a few clips online.)
-(*audibly sighs*) FINE. I guess I like Catradora now. Are you happy now, SPOP Crew? ARE YOU?!
-Hooray, Catra’s got a emotional support animal! And they’re a shapeshifting magic alien cat. Those are the best kind!
-Is it weird that I knew that weird glowing stuff on Krytis was just magic all along, or was it just not hidden very well. Anyways, I like Krytis. I like that we got to see a truly alien world with its own form of magic.
-Plus, we got a logical advancement of the magic versus science subtheme with magic being Horde Prime’s weakness! Neato!
-Getting back on the “which is worse?” wagon for a second, I don’t know what feels less right: that Wrong Hordak’s big revelation and his resolution to free himself and his brothers and friends from Horde Prime’s control is played humorously, or that Real Hordak should be the one having this moment.
-That bit with Castaspella and Shadow Weaver where she tells Casta about Etheria being a living thing with inherent magical property, or whatever, while we got a peaceful shot of some boar creatures sleeping was actually kind of nice. It would have been nicer though if it wasn’t part of a power hungry abuser’s obvious scheme. If only there was a kindly old witch lady character who was in touch with nature and knew just what to say when someone was feeling downOH WAIT.
-Furthermore… Why did Shadow Weaver and Castaspella need to have romantic tension?
-Seriously though, where’s our Madame Razz quota this season? Where’s my supportive magic grandma timelord at, yo?
-Yup, they speedran this season.
-I’m actually really disappointed we didn’t see more of an intergalactic new rebellion rising up to fight Horde Prime’s forces across the universe. Especially if it meant we got to see more Star Sibling action!
-Again, I adore Wrong Hordak but I keep wondering what was keeping the crew from just bringing in Original Flavour Hordak. (You know, aside from teasing us Entrapdak fans and trying to distract us with a loveable new character in the meantime.) I mean he could have done the whole infiltrating the clone squads and tricking them bit, too.
-Heck, he could have done the wink, too!
-I’d gleefully point out Loo-Kee’s cameo this season but apparently, they already made some several seasons ago. That’s what I get for not rewatching the 80’s show and training my eyes first.
-(*sees Erelandians*) Are those freaking Toads and Toadettes?
-So, what’s keeping them from just hitting Spinerella’s chip again? Besides emotional baggage and gale force winds, I mean.
-Perfuma coming out of a cave scared out of her wits, demanding to know who’s there, clinging to her friends as soon as they come back, and balling her eyes out is a big, BIG mood.
-Frosta absolutely decking Catra in the face was nestled somewhere between cathartic and excessive.
-Netossa spraying her with a bottle of water on the other hand…
-Oh, so Greyskull was the name of a Rebel Squad! I think. Meh, the important thing is we got an explanation and it still sounds cool.
-Leave it to a couple of dads to make a secret message out of a dad joke.
-You know I made fun of Light Hope for being creepy, but I swear that avatar from the Spire is even creepier. I don’t know if it’s her face—those dang blank eyes, man—or just that it she’s less animated than the real thing, but it just felt… off.
-Aww, Noelle made Netossa’s princess weakness illustrations! So cute!
-Forget episodes that deserves Emmys, Keston John deserves one for voicing Hordak, Horde Prime, all the clones, and several minor villains and giving each and every single one a distinct voice! Where my king’s respect, eh?
-Yes, Catra you had a small disagreement with Hordak. …Over sending his girlfriend and your “friend” to DIE IN A LITERAL LIVING HELL.
-Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system.
-Why does Perfuma get pressured to get angry and go wild when Entrapta’s the one who’s had it the worst out of all them? Why can’t my gamer girl go berserk, dammit!?
-Okay, but really, how do these fricking chips work??? Are they parasite devices who store Horde Prime’s Baptizing Dew then slowly pump it into their host’s bodies? Do they have their own nervous systems? Are they technorganic? Also, how and why do we need to make these chips are bigger threat then they need to be?
-Horde Prime showing up on Hordak’s throne in grand Killing Joke style and casually throwing shades at his brother’s overblown attempts to impress him is pretty awesome, but it feels strangely underdeveloped. Hordak’s not there to have his hard work insulted and we never got to see Adora have any similar encounter with Hordak here before, so unless you look at it from the perspective of someone who has been here before in the Horde story like Catra it lacks the dramatic weight it should have had.
-Scorpia resisting the chip to save her new friends was pretty great, though.
-I swear, when they got to the scene where Adora and the others figured out that Shadow Weaver was grooming her so she could use her to get to the Heart of Etheria, I was mouthing “You B***H” through the whole thing.
-They really brought back Etherian deep magic just so they had something to make Micah threatening. …okay.
-Okay, the rest of “Failsafe” messed me up, so here’s a rundown on all the other messy thoughts I had while the show ripped my heart and ground it to dog food:
         -Entrapta and Hordak reuniting: Yay!
-Swift Wind yanking her away before she can get through to him: Boo.
-Catra encouraging Adora to try and take care of herself for a change: Yay!
-Adora hurts Catra and she runs away: Boo.
-Adora finally calling out Shadow Weaver on what an utterly horrible person she is: Yay!
-Adora resolves to risk sacrificing herself to save the world: Bo—okay, seriously, was all this suffering really necessary, show?
-I know I mentioned in my previous She-Ra random thoughts that I supported Glimmadora, but I am okay with Catradora and Glimbow ending up canon. The only problem I have is how rushed they feel—moreso with Glimbow. With Catradora, the crew had an entire season to make it work again and they took it. Glimbow it feels like they were down to the last few episodes and went, “Oh right, we were gonna do something with these two!” then did their darndest to fit in some chemistry in between all the other stuff going down.
-As ominous as it was, the music where Horde Prime starts hacking Etheria honestly SLAPS.
-Okay, I know everyone is magic or something, but I am legit surprised getting electrocuted in water didn’t kill the heroes right then and there.
-Sea Hawk tries to flirt with his girl even as she’s trying to kill him. Truly, he is a man of taste.
-What do you know, Shadow Weaver can only do good when she’s (canonically!) punch drunk.
-You know a whole lot of this could have been avoided if Holo-Mara was Adora’s mentor instead of Light Hope.
-When I think about it, it was actually really clever to make Horde Prime the final villain for Adora to face: a domineering decadent man who’s been in power forever against a humble emotionally vulnerable compassionate young woman.
-Not to mention the divide between cult-like oppression and progressive freedom. Or something.
-Holy crap, did the First Ones get a great freaking a Great Old One for a guard dog?!
-So, you guys seriously didn’t bring Angella back to reunite with her family OR mention her all season after the impact her death had on everyone all last season until Glimmer needs a power-up at the last possible minute and then you never bring her up again. That is absolutely a dick move in bird culture.
-Entrapta’s hacker sticker gives me life. Gamer girl gremlin princess forever!
-On the one hand, I’m disappointed that Adora and Catra don’t get to have an awesome couple battle against the security monster and win. On the other hand, Shadow Weaver is finally dead. YAY!
-With apologies to the writers and especially Lorraine Toussaint. She did splendidly bringing this character to life and even if I hated Shadow Weaver, I adored the effort she put into making her one of the most emotionally complex villains I’ve ever seen.
-Words cannot, will not, and will never describe the pure joy that I experienced when I first saw Hordak’s big scene: standing up to and disowning his tyrant brother, saving Entrapta, declaring his love to her (albeit in a nicely lowkey fashion), and then throwing Horde Prime to his apparent doom Disney style with Entrapta cheering him with sheer glee. GOSH, it was everything I could have hoped for from this season!
-Now if only they kept the deleted scene where they got a moment to themselves before Prime body-jacked him again like the creepy sonuvabich he is.
-Horde Prime just wouldn’t be a religious villain if he didn’t tell everyone to burn.
-Bonus points for actually trying to burn the frigging planet.
-Aside from the idea of Adora switching to wearing a She-Ra themed dress everywhere in the future, the future vision was really quite sweet, and seeing Prime step in to ruin it made it all the more impactful.
-Can I just say that it’s absolutely wonderful that the show, for all it’s flaws, said  “**** senseless heroic sacrifices”?
-BREAKING: Lesbian cat finally makes up with her jock ex, has a canon kiss so pure it saves the world!
-In other news, Catradora fans are still spoiled rotten.
-Wow, look at all those character comebacks they skipped through! Look, there’s the chefs from Dryl, Double Trouble, Huntara, the Horde Trio, Imp, Madame Razz—are you kidding me?!
-Grumbling aside, I actually find the idea of the Horde Trio and Imp getting involved in a G-rated science-fantasy version of the first Hangover movie quite amusing.
-Oh dang, they pulled a Castle in the Sky with the Velvet Glove!
-As nice as it was to see Aodra save Hordak from Horde Prime and destroy the latter through exorcism via sheer compassion, I’m rather disappointed we never got to see She-Ra go full Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengence on any creepy old cult leaders.
-Yeah, it would have gone against the “love conquers all” set up, but love takes on many forms, does it not? So, why can it not manifest as cleaving your mortal enemies with extreme prejudice to save your loved ones?
-Furthermore, in addition to Holo-Mara being a better mentor, Hordak raising Adora instead Shadow Weaver could have prevented a lot of similar problems. Maybe. Possibly.
-Eh whatever, he has a lifetime’s worth of fanfiction to make up for it.
-ENTRAPDAK IS CANON, ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD.
-And so is Catradora and Glimbow! That’s nice, too.
-Aww, how sweet of them to skip through Catra and Scorpia, and Glimmer and Micah’s big reunions! It’s not like we’ve been waiting forever for this stuff or anything. HahahahAHAHAHDHAHAHFHAFHKSADJHFKAJHDfine.
-And so it all ends with everyone either friends, in love, or both, as heroes decide to make up for it all with a grandiose sequel promising more exciting space adventures we probably won’t see! HOORAY!
-All snarky ranting aside, I actually really enjoyed the finale. It was exciting, heartwarming, and above all it ended on happy, hopeful note without leaving too many frustrating questions unanswered. (*glares with utmost contempt at Voltron and Star vs. The Forces of Evil*)
-You know, this wasn’t bad for a final season, but I think this might have worked better as two seasons. Not in Netflix’s cheap “split a regular 13-episode season in two 6-7 episode long seasons” strategy, but I mean two full seasons with their own storylines leading up to the grand finale:
-First, one that starts out with Horde Prime’s arrival the downfall of Etheria, focuses on the space adventures, ends with their return to Etheria and gives the characters time to recuperate from season 4.
-Then, we have one final season that focuses on the Best Friend Squad’s Return to Etheria, Horde Prime’s plan, gives everyone more time to properly reconcile before ¾ of the entire cast gets chipped, sets up a new Rebellion made up of Princess Alliance and former Etherian Horde members, maybe even set up a proper Hordak redemption arc or something, and then our big happy ending.
-On a mostly unrelated note, I also feel that the whole show could have turned out even better if it had been either a dedicated science-fantasy war drama with some levity (like the good Star Wars shows or Avatar: The Last Airbender) or a lighthearted yet empowering slice-of-life action-adventure romcom (i.e. basically a well-made remake of the original show in the style of Adventure Time and Parks and Rec or something).
-My final random thought for this whole thing: we really could have used a triumphant end credits song or something. Aside from obviously recommending Fabulous Secret Powers, I would have also recommended the original 4 Non Blondes “What’s Going On,” a reprise of “Warriors,” Gorillaz’s “We Got the Power,” or (my favourite) Talking Head’s “(Nothing But) Flowers” since the ending scenes remind me of it.
Thanks again to the crew for giving me something to live for and/or complain about!
Now, let’s hope the He-Man reboots do as well...

Is it just me? Or did Catradora looked really forced and rushed in the end of the show?
Dear @zutararights ,
Firstly, I just wanted to say thank you for your patience. This was a really hard commentary to write because I had to revisit season 5 quite a bit, which was not enjoyable to say the least. But it was necessary in order to provide my response.
The response to your answer is I completely agree that Catradora was incredibly forced and rushed. The trust between Catra and Adora only began to build in season 5, and so I only saw Catra and Adora potentially becoming friends again. Catra did a few good things in season 5, but that cannot cancel out all the abuse and destruction she’s done in the past 4 seasons.
In addition, I feel that Catra had not grown enough in order to be ready for any relationship. These are only a few of my grievances on Catra in season 5.
1.  Catra acts petty and ignorant. Catra is still somewhat irritated with Adora even though Catra tried to kill Adora several times throughout the series and Adora saved Catra.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Catra acts entitled. Catra feels a couple of good actions warrant recognition. This is ridiculous because Catra abused people, destroyed peoples’ homes, and killed people.
Tumblr media
3. Catra is a hypocrite. Catra asks Adora an incredibly hypocritical question, after Catra abused Adora for 4 seasons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a lot more grievances with Catra in season 5. But I wanted to include how Adora’s speech on Horde Prime indicates that Catra’s actions in the previous seasons are pretty terrible and should not have been forgotten in season 5.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only was Catradora completely rushed and abusive, but all the other characters’ story arcs suffered because the focus of season 5 was on a completely unnecessary ship, Catradora.
However, I’m only going to focus on how Adora’s arc with She-Ra suffered.
To be honest, I was so excited to see how the She-Ra story was going to end with Adora. But the whole She-Ra story felt forgotten. There are still so many unanswered questions that remain about She-Ra that should have been answered in season 5.
1. How does Adora know that she was randomly chosen as She-Ra? There’s just a portal in this scene, and then Adora just jumps to the conclusion that she was randomly selected to be She-Ra.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. How does Adora know about her newfound powers as “ultimate” She-Ra? In season 5, Adora is jumping through space and seems to have mastered all her powers including very new ones, but when did Adora learn about these new abilities? Adora’s whole journey was learning about She-Ra and She-Ra’s power.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. What about “For the Honor of Grayskull!”? I know that the statement relates to the rebel group that Mara was a part of, but why does the statement work? What did the previous She-Ras before Mara use to transform?
Tumblr media
4. Who was Madame Razz? Why was she able to travel through time and interact with Mara and Adora? Does she have a connection to She-Ra?
Tumblr media
I even went to the She-Ra page to see if I could better understand the story of She-Ra, but I failed to find the answers to my questions.
There’s obviously so much more to be said about season 5 in relation to Adora and She-Ra. But these are the main points that stood out to me. If anyone has answers to these questions, please let me know!
In addition, the ending to the show was quite disappointing. The show had been built up for 5 seasons, and the answer to save the world was there’s a secret way to turn the weapon off.
In the end, Adora’s whole story with Mara and She-Ra was put aside to make way for a relationship with Catra. A relationship that was incredibly abusive and that had absolutely no healthy build up throughout the four seasons.
In conclusion, Catradora was rushed and the lack of explanation of She-Ra makes me question why the story of She-Ra was even included in the show?
Thank you very much for sharing.

honestly the comparison to that other fic occurred to me too but like uhhh that fic was hot, YOUR fic was hot, why should we deprive the world of time traveling smut just because it’s been done before,
(2/2)OH nvm the fic that person referenced in your comments was NOT the one i was thinking of. i was thinking of the “a slip in time” series by avulle. also time-travel, also hot
Oh I actually know that one! Yeah, that fic is very hot. And the fact that you thought of another fic that predates that one just goes to show you, it’s a trope, no author has a monopoly on it. Time travel sex is something that I’ve seen a lot across various fandoms (although, I used to be in comic book fandoms, where I think it is probably more common than your average fandom given it happens in canon all the time lol (the bullet sent him back in time)).
I was honestly just super offended at the notion that i’m ripping off other authors considering a) that alone is enough to be offended do i need to say more, b) i wrote this two weeks ago, came up with the idea in june, and i only checked the spop tag for the first time since august four days ago, c) i skimmed the beginning of the fic after they mentioned it and there are zero (0) similarities, d) honestly, spop and the characters are important enough to me that i really hate seeing the characters written OOC, so i don’t read/enjoy a lot of she-ra fics, hence why i initially turned to creating my own, and e) i have read one fic by that author, and it wasn’t that one lmao. I literally told a friend before I posted yim that this exact scenario was “a first for the she-ra fandom” because as far as I knew, no one had written Adora/Catra/Adora without getting She-ra involved (and as far as I know, that’s still true) and no one had posted a time travel threesome yet.
The idea for You & I (& Me) came to me in June when I was lowkey obsessed thinking about Catradora time travel and the shock value of younger Adora or Catra finding out they’re married in the future. I was laying in bed snuggling my body pillow and my head went “TWO WIVES”, but at that point I had never even tried to write smut of any kind. Like ‘peace in letting go’, I came back to the idea months later when I felt confident enough in my abilities (and less shame lmao) to finally write it, and I wrote it in January, hanging on to it until Valentines because that seemed an appropriate time to post ludicrous smut.

Books and Graphic Novels to curb the She-Ra s5 hangover (Pt.1/?)
So, I've been wallowing in the She-Ra feels for the past few days. Mostly reading fanfics, swimming in Tumblr and rewatching s5 (as most of us are). And, because I'm a big reader, I started thinking about books I've read that remind me of spop. I came up with a handful of books/graphic novels that I’ve already read and made this lil list for my fellow She-Ra loving readers out there. As I read more I will most likely add to this list. (Especially with #prideathon coming up next month!!!) So keep an eye out for part 2...
1) Cosmoknights by Hannah Templer
Okay! So I read this graphic novel semi-recently and freaking loved it! Plot-wise it doesn’t have a whole lot of similarities (except for childhood BFFs... these one are long lost and in need of a reunion though, not at each others throats) to She-Ra. But the art style and queer themes/characters are very She-Ra. Not to mention it’s all about sapphic space knights fighting the patriarchal galactic empire; what more could you want! Literally all of the characters in this book are queer women... and most of them are badass knights or sexy spies and it’s GREAT! I need more people to read this book!!! Also this GN was written by a queer woman! I honestly think the only con to Cosmoknights is that it’s quite new so only Vol. 1 is out right now.
Synopsis: “Pan's life used to be very small. Work in her dad's body shop, sneak out with her friend Tara to go dancing, and watch the skies for freighter ships. It didn't even matter that Tara was a princess... until one day it very much did matter, and Pan had to say goodbye forever. Years later, when a charismatic pair of off-world gladiators show up on her doorstep, she finds that life may not be as small as she thought. On the run and off the galactic grid, Pan discovers the astonishing secrets of her neo-medieval world... and the intoxicating possibility of burning it all down.”
Tumblr media
2) Paper Girls by Brian K. Vaughan (Author), Cliff Chiang (Illustrator), Matthew Wilson (Colorist), Jared K. Fletcher (Lettering)
Paper Girls is hard to explain but it’s essentially about a group of papergirls in the 1980s who get caught up in a inter-dimensional, time-space tear in the fabric of the universe that lands them and others in different points in time and they must work together to get home. I seriously loved this GN series. The girl gang/girl power aspect and many of the characters and relationship dynamic reminds me of She-Ra. Once again it’s not exactly the same plot but the chaotic sci-fi elements are there. There are cool space monsters, complicated bag guys, gay aliens, and snarky ladies who will smack you over the head with their hockey stick. Its also queer as hell and features a prominent wlw relationship (a relationship that has some delicious catradora vibes if you ask me...)! It’s also a completed series so it’s ready for you to totally binge in this quarantine time!
Synopsis: “Paper Girls follows the story of four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls (Erin, MacKenzie, KJ, and Tiffany) set in Stony Stream, a fictional suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.. While out delivering papers on the morning after Halloween, the town is struck by an invasion from a mysterious force from the future. The girls become unwillingly caught up in the conflict between two warring factions of time travelers.”

3) This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
This is a the book on this list that I’ve read the most recently and it completely blew me away. The prose is stunning and the story is so complex in the most beautiful ways and ties in so wonderfully at the end. Its about two woman on the opposite sides of a time war who are rivals and then fall in love with each other as they send letters back and fourth. If you have already read all the fanfics and are in need of some catradora vibes this is the book for you. It does the enemies to lover trope so so well and I was really impressed by how much emotion El-Mohtar and Gladstone put into their story. Honestly Blue and Red’s romance had me crying at the end (not from sadness!) it was just so moving and heartwarming. Not to mention the world/setting with which this book takes place in is so unique and honestly like nothing I’ve ever read before.
Synopsis:  “ Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandant finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. . Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, grows into something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future. Except the discovery of their bond would mean death for each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win that war.”
Tumblr media
4) Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
Okay so this book is the wildcard of the bunch. I was originally going to make this a three book long list but as I was thinking back on the books that I’ve read and Skyward popped into my head. It’s a YA Sci-fi book that’s basically Top Gun but in space and with a headstrong and noble teen girl as the protagonist plus a sentient spaceship. I was wracking my brain for why this book made me think of She-Ra because it’s not queer (as far as I know... I’ve yet to read book two), it’s not really the same hero’s journey type plot and nor are any of the relationships similar to those in She-Ra. But then it hit me. Like She-Ra, this book does a really good job a depicting kids and teenagers as soldiers. All of the characters in this book are made into pilots at a young age to fight an unknown foe. Sanderson does a really good job at showing the repercussions of this, as well as the real life risks to being a soldier in a war. This book also has some Fright Zone vibes with the setting and, the more I think about it, the lead character, Spin, shares a lot of qualities with both Catra and Adora. Qualities which make for a fantastic MC who I think, if universes collided, would be a great addition to the Princess Alliance. (Side bar: this book also has some AWESOME action sequences that literally kept me on the edge of my seat.)
Synopsis:  “ Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible—assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.”
Tumblr media
BONUS: (aka the honorable/obvious mentions) Lumberjanes and Nimona both by Noelle Stevenson!
Noelle Stevenson is the creator of spop and also a graphic novelist and artist herself (as many of you may know)! I’ve read and loved both of these graphic novels and you can totally see the essence of Noelle’s storytelling that you see in She-Ra appear in these GNs as well. I highly recommend for a reread if you’ve already read them but also if you’re a She-Ra fan and have never picked up any of Noelle’s other works yet this is a great time to do it! They’re also both really queer regrading both themes and characters, which is no surprise cause it’s our Queen Noelle, you guys!
Lumberjanes Synopsis:  “At Miss Qiunzilla Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet's camp for hard-core lady-types, things are not what they seem. Three-eyed foxes. Secret caves. Anagrams. Luckily, Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are five rad, butt-kicking best pals determined to have an awesome summer together... And they're not gonna let a magical quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way! The mystery keeps getting bigger, and it all begins here.”
Nimona Synopsis:  “Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren't the heroes everyone thinks they are. But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona's powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.”

Hi! 1, 8 and 20 for the fanfic ask? :D
1. If you’re an author, how many WIPs do you currently have? (Be honest!)
Uh, hang on while I count? Last time I went through I counted EVERY SINGLE idea I’d put on paper and had over 200 stories, the vast majority of them were WiPs. Like, 243 WiPs last check. And I’ve only added more to the pile. BUT I’m going to look /specifically/ only at my active WiPs, aka things that I’m at least occasionally opening to work on (writing at least once every month or two in, I’m over all a slow writing tbh lol) and which includes all stories that I’m posting and aren’t finished yet. So that’s...19 active. Of those fics, 2 are SW and the rest are SPOP fics. :|
But will I give up the currently 252 WiPs I have to the general population or send them out for others to write?
No. They are mine and I would love to actually write in a LOT more of them!
8. Bed sharing or roommates AU?
Why would you make me choose I thought we were FRIENDS!? There is so much merit to them both! As a reader I can’t choose and you can’t make me! As a writer, I tend to default to roommates. Being aroace I like the idea of bed sharing for romance/smut but can’t actually conceptualize it as a writer unless it’s couched in a bunch of other stuff and that sounds like a lot of work lol!
20. Do you have a favorite fanfic or author? If so, tag them/post a link and share the love! I know I’ve rec’d several of these folks before, AND I’LL DO IT AGAIN. But I have far, far too many faves to actually list everyone here??? But Imma try and list A LOT OF THEM ANYWAYS?????????????? And as soon as I get asked things like this I just forget everyone and everything which doesn’t help. So, sorry if I missed you! You know who you are, and you know I love you, and you know that my memory is swiss cheese.
I’m a huge AU fan and that’s....it’s really, REALLY gonna show lol Star Wars @chancecraz has some amazing star wars original trilogy fics and time travel is included, and I’m a sucker for it okay? Who doesn’t want to watch Leia be LEIA ORGANA 24/7?
Gabby (Kirasoka) writes a bunch of fantastic barrissoka fic, I was sucked in by her medieval AU and don’t regret it one bit! Give a look if you haven’t!
@artyblogs is single handedly responsible for getting me into Riyo/Ahsoka, and does a lot of amazing Pantoran world building so check her out for sure!
@mylordshesacactus and @alexkablob have both written independently and collaborative barrissoka and are the reason I got sucked into the clone wars animated series. Here’s mylordshesacactus’s AO3 and alexkablob’s AO3 for Star Wars specifically. And then they both talked a bit about SPOP and I decided to check it out and WHOOPS NOW I’M IN A NEW FANDOM AGAIN. I also started watching RWBY thanks to them and basically I trust their tastes/opinions with my life apparently.
@bionic-jedi has also written some great barrissoka, but I fell in love with his Riyo/Ahsoka fic A Path She Couldn’t Follow! A bodyguard au that makes me want to re-read it over and over and over again. So you should get in on this if you aren’t!
@meridianpony has the FANTASTIC clone centric fic Dominoes! It’s not only clone centric, but also got time travel so it’s already ticking off several fantastic boxes before we even get into the complexity of the story. Great characterization and a deeper time travel plot than I feel like we usually see!
@thegirlwhostumbled (Elvana) has a great what if story for Ahsoka discovering Barriss’s plan before the bombing happened called An Incomplete Solution that you should check out for barrissoka goodness. :)
MirandaTam has a great Jedi Shmi AU Series that you have to see for an AU where Shmi leaves Tatooine with Anakin and becomes Yoda’s apprentice. An amazing gen canon divergence fic!
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
@malachi-walker has their whole She Ra rock star AU Rhythm & Blues (C'mon, Darlin', Make Some Noise) and it’s golden and if you like catradora you should read it!
@relativelystellarlyinclined has the fantastic As long as we stay together (if we just stay together) which is a catradora modern au in Antarctica and the whole story had me in a vice grip.
@technoskittles‘s fic Pure Feeling is a modern au catradora that features single mom Adora and Catra reconnecting after several years apart. It’s super sweet and super good!
@artemisbye has a catradora modern au fake dating fic called you did something to me that is top notch!
@weirdoughnut is writing my hands down favorite glitra fic Of Vagaries and Make-Believe so def check them out for a great glitra modern au!
Ikubusmb has only posted 3 fics for SPOP but they are all good. I specifically want to rec Closer Than I Hoped, a modern glitradora fic that is making me lose my mind one chapter at a time.
Felle_DesignWorks has some great glitradora aus that I’m in love with, but they are all explicit so heads up if not your cup of tea!
@azureshadowmoon has written several great glitradora fics as well, but I’d like to specifically rec Catmint because it’s amazingly amazing and I love it so much you don’t understand. Glimmer PoV modern au/coffee shop, but with Glimmer’s shift starting at 2AM.
@thebravething has several awesome fics, but I’m going to rec 2 catradora fics here specifically! First is Before The Clock Strikes Twelve, a modern AU that I am stupidly glad I found and read because I love this lady so much y'all don’t understand. And second is rest your heavy heart which not only features fantastic catradora, but also exasperated Glimmer which is a personal favey fave of mine :D
