Was invited to the Wayne Gala held at the Tower this year to accommodate special guests from the Justice League. Was photographed by reporter Clark Kent. Wanted to meet Superman but he didn't show up. Food and atmosphere was good. Got told off for swinging from the chandelier. Why have a chandelier if not for swinging?

I had the opportunity to visit Wayne Tower on Bring Your Child To Work Day. The building is up to code and I was able to view all the health code certifications. I admire that Wayne Enterprises takes care of its employees by allowing ample vacation time, in-house daycare, and well-maintained recreation spaces. The cafeteria did not have as many vegetarian options as I would have preferred, but I have been informed that they operate on a rotating menu, so I shall revisit again next week and possibly amend my review. I would leave five stars but I ran into Tim Drake on the way out and that brought the whole experience down a notch.

"This Is A Man's World" is officially a book! (Launches October 6th!)

Man's World, my Carlos Sainz fanfic that I posted all last year, is now officially a book on kindle unlimited + kindle pre-sale (soft cover coming soon!)! I knew I loved the story so much that I wanted to post it somewhere, and finally my friends (and several of you!) convinced me to re-write the story with original content... and I finally did it.

So really this is a post to say two things...

THANK YOU. A million times over. All of your comments, likes and reblogs kept me going through some tough times last year – and I can't appreciate it enough. Your feedback and love of this story made my day over and over again, and words can't express how much I love this community. You guys just rock.

Hey Berk, I'm sorry if this is too much to ask, but is there any possibility of getting Lazarus Rises pdf for free somewhere?

I feel very bad for asking. I've been trying to buy since it came out, but I'm truly unable. My economic situation is very bad and my country's is getting worse, and I really can't afford it. I would if I could, really (I not only love what you've made public of it, but I've also been there for most of your grief journey and it's helped me a lot, and I feel like buying the book it's the least I could do), but paying anything else than the essentials (especially in US dollars) is not possible for me.

"Please Deliver Via..." artwork is coming along nicely. These will be available as a download and measure 3 inches by 1 inch (7.62cm x 2.54cm).

Which conveniently -- (stares at camera) -- is a common size for both rubber stamp making companies AND "print these at home" label companies.

Right now there are 28 and I'm sure I'll have a ton more before the shop launches. The current plan (subject to change) is each piece of artwork of this type will be "pay if you want" --

You can pay $0.50 and get a high res PDF, or $0.00 and get a high res PDF, and then print them at home (via aforementioned label) or send them off to a rubber stamp maker to get a rubber stamp made.

I'll have instructions on either, but we are not handling that production, so we can focus on making artwork.

Netherworld Post Office is going to focus on greeting cards at first, and later small comics, and small art prints. Fun artwork, monster slice-of-life, mermaids kissing dryads etc etc etc. When these are available, if you order from us, they get commercially printed, boxed up, and mailed to you.

These greeting cards, comics, art prints is how we pay bills and are our main projects. There will be downloadable stationery (small retail price tag) and mail tracking logs (pay if you want) and similar stuff.

We apologize for the delay in our communication! Between messaging manufacturers for quotes, managing 50 contributors and making sure we still answer our three social media, email and personal accounts, it's been a busy time for us. The mods and I hope this is a good update for everyone!

PRODUCTION UPDATES:

★ All merch and packaging material has been ordered and is on its way to our shipping and fulfillment mod, Yurei! Pictures of all merch items will be posted to our social media as they come in!

★In addition to the items in each bundle, all physical orders will include holographic stickers with our cover artist @Cosmosully's shaker charm design! This was budgeted out as a thank you for everyone's support and patience with our project.

★Because our order quantities for some items (books, stickers, and sheets) are close to a whole number (300), extras have been ordered in order to receive a bulk quantity discount. This means there MAY be a few leftover sales (10 or less stock of each item). This would be after fulfillment is complete.

★Aya, our head mod, is currently working on pressing the holographic magnets for all Early Bird, Half and Full Bundle orders by hand. It will be either these or the prints that we show first!

★The PDF of the zine is on its final revision and will be completed within a few days. After this, the printing of the zine books will begin. The final page count of the zine is 174 pages, which is significantly higher than what we marketed and estimated for the zine (which was 130+). Several of our contributors provided more artwork and writing for the project than what they came on to do initially, which was added to the book.

Many of you have reached out about shipping! As soon as we get all items, they will be shipped out accordingly. Our estimate for shipping completion is December, but some books may not arrive at your doorstep until January.

We know this is, again, not what our initial time frame was for the project. The mods and I are working as fast as we can, but we do all have lives outside of the zine. All of the mods are either in their final year of college, or are graduates with full-time jobs and shops to manage. We felt that rather than rush the book and merch out, we should focus on making sure they are works of art that both our contributors and fans of the series can look back on with fondness and take pride in having. You paid a lot to make this project happen, and therefore only the best work we can create should arrive at your doorstep! This is a passion project that we all want to see be successful, so we apologize for any inconvenience the change in schedule causes.

FAQ

Q: So wait, how does this work?

A: The only item we currently have in house are the magnets, as they are hand pressed, printed, and foiled by our head moderator. All other items are designed by our contributors and manufactured, then get shipped to our shipping moderator to be packaged into bundles.

Q: Oh gosh, I need to change my address now!

A: No worries, we will actually send an address confirmation email a week before we actually ship the items! Also, all physical orders come with USPS tracking; this way, there is no concern on where the package will go. This includes international orders!

Q: When will we receive the PDF?

A: PDFs will be emailed out in the same email as the address confirmation, or shortly after :)

I'm being blackmailed and I don't care

Yesterday I woke up to an email listing all my existing passwords, a screenshot of my desktop and a PDF file. Here's a screenshot:

Basically I've become a victim of ransomeware and he's threatening to doxx me.

I'm obviously not going to pay them, even if I could afford it, because they won't keep to their word and they'll just want more. Plus idk how tf the bitcoin stuff works.

Anyway they said they're going to create a fake nsfw video of me (probably using deepfake or something? Idk) and they said they're going to send it to people. They're probably bluffing because it seems like a lot of effort to do all that even tho they already have all my data anyway but if anyone sees any fake weird videos or information about me just report it please. I'm warning all of you about it now to clear up any confusion there might be in the future. Plus since alot of people I know online are minors I'm concerned you'll get sent something like that so don't interact and just block/report.

The funny thing is, this isn't the worse thing that happened to me yesterday. I experienced something way worse than this so this is more of an annoyance than anything. I think my stress reached its peak and now I just don't care. I've been on flight or fight for so long that I just can't be bothered anymore.

I think the guy is bluffing for the most part. Even so he had passwords and he installed malware on my PC to access it. I'm not sure how this happened because I've been on the regular sites I'm always on unless someone who used my PC went on a dodgy site. Either way there's nothing I can really do. Just another annoyance I have to deal with.

And idk why he said he had access to my video camera. My webcam has been covered by black tape ever since I got my PC so I think the PDF file he sent me is something he sends everyone who falls victim to this.

The guy who did this is obviously not right in the head just by judging the way he talks in the PDF file.

Anyway I've just accepted it. It doesn't matter. Nothing matters. I have bigger things to worry about than this. Maybe I should be worrying more about this but what's the point? I can't stop it. I won't be making any posts or messages for a while.

I am tired. Had to somehow print tickets for a guy who had them on his old phone which had no service, an email that couldn't send emails, and tickets that for some reason couldn't even be downloaded as a pdf even thought the option was there. When asked why not just bring the old phone his answer was "then I'd be carrying two phones!". My brain was scrambled today, couldn't explain anything, and the only librarian who could have helped just didn't bother coming to the front desk when we asked her for help so I got to stumble through the whole thing. He finally went home and brought his laptop(which had access to the email which, by the way, he didn't remember the password for) and finally finally was able to forward the email to mine so we would print them from that.

My brain has been mush, possibly since recovering from covid(again. i hate it i hate it i hate it) a couple weeks ago. I am a tired clerk. Have some asks.

3. That is a bit of a confusing question. I guess it depends on how you define underrated. I think many readers love longer multi chapter fics, but I’ve read some amazing epic one shots that were so damn good and remain favorites of mine. There’s also some incredibly good short ones. I think it just comes to a matter of taste.

hello! i briefly touched on this a while back, but i’ve decided to make an official post where i’ll be a bit more detailed. as of october 18th of this year, i’ll be opening one round of commissions! the concept of commissions is still a bit new to me, so hopefully this is explained well. (please be nice lmao..)

for the first round, five slots will be open as to not overwhelm myself. all 5/5 slots are currently open!

each commission will be charged at a fixed price of $8 for up to 1k words. meaning up until the one thousandth word, your comm is still $8. any additional length will be priced at $0.010 a word.

examples :

≤ 1k words -> $8

1.1k (+100 words) -> $9

1.2k (+200 words) -> $10

and so on! hopefully that makes sense. for now, all works will cap at around 3-5k words. if i write over that amount, you will not be charged.

REQUESTING COMMISSIONS

commissions can either be requested directly through kofi or in tumblr dms. i highly suggest you request through kofi due to tumblr’s inability to function sometimes. though feel free to dm me here for anything you feel you’ve missed and i’ll get to it as soon as i see it.

once on kofi, you have the option of adding the personalization add-on to your commission, which is an extra $3. a google form is required to fill in for this add-on. please be as detailed as you’d like. that is where you would add more personal things, as opposed to a general x reader comm.

due to me being a full-time university student, i will ask that you give me a grace period of a standard work week before dm-ing me for updates. as we all know, life is unpredictable at best. if at any point i deduce that will be unable complete your comm during the agreed upon time frame, i will refund half of what you paid.

Companies I've Applied To

I figured that as I embark on my quest to Get Hired, I should probably document the process for both myself and for others who are trying to get their foot in the door for industry work.

For context (and for those of you who don't know), I have a Bachelor's of Fine Art in Emerging Media: Character Animation and an Master's of Fine Art in Animation and VFX. I graduated in spring of 2022 after completing a fully independent short film, and have been working as a "visiting lecturer" at my University ever since.

My Employment History

When you're looking to get hired, your past work experience matters... a lot. Because of how intense my Undergrad/Graduate programs were, I didn't have a lot of time to cultivate my portfolio or bolster my resume. Getting hired by the University right out of college was a huge relief, but it doesn't tick that pesky "2+ years of Industry Experience" or "At least 1 AAA Game Shipped" prerequisite on most job postings.

With that in mind, I'm doing my best to push for the "or equivalent experience" caveat.

What I Do:

I've mentioned this a few times on this blog, but my professional focus is in 3D character modeling, rigging, groom, and sim. In the art field, this is usually considered a technical job, and from what I understand the market for tech is usually a little less competitive than the market for modeling/animation.

So, with all that out of the way, let's get to it!

DreamWorks:

I sent in my application for Character Tech Anim about three days after the posting opened. They had their own hiring website through nbcUniversal. I'd gone through the process before with internships, so it was pretty painless! It's a remote position, which is huge, and the salary would be competitive with the one I have now as long as I can stay remote.

Biggest con in my application is that I'm still missing Python proficiency. I'm learning it right now, but god damn is it an in-demand skill!

It's a job I'd love to get, and I think my skills in rigging/groom/sim line up well.

Process Pros:

Easy to apply.

Clear (and reasonable!) qualifications listed for the job level.

Honest about expectations regarding overtime and hours.

Allowed PDF uploads of CV & Resume.

Sent a confirmation email after the application had been received.

Had a section for "Additional Comments", which was a great place for me to throw in that I'm learning some of the skills they want.

Process Cons:

Likely will not receive a rejection notice in the event they decide not to hire. This isn't a huge con; the studio is massive and sending out rejection notices would be a time sink for them.

Advertised working weekends and overtime in the listing... definitely something I'll ask about if I move forward in the process. Work/life balance is important!

Had to enter my resume information and upload my resume. :(

Gearbox:

I sent in my application for Technical Animator (Character Rigger) about two weeks after the listing was posted. They had their own hiring website. This is a hybrid position, which wouldn't be ideal, but a friend of a friend works remotely for them, so maybe it's negotiable?

Biggest con in my application is, yet again, that I'm still missing Python proficiency and tool dev experience. Learning it now!

I was missing a lot of the credentials on this one, so it's more of a hail-Mary application.

Process Pros:

Easy to apply.

Clear (and reasonable!) qualifications listed for the job level.

Allowed PDF uploads of CV & Resume.

Sent a confirmation email after the application had been received. Seems to promise a prompt response, which means I can likely expect a notice of rejection if they choose not to hire.

Company culture seems extremely reasonable and employee health is a priority.

Process Cons:

May have to relocate if hired.

Aquent:

Honestly... no idea what was happening here. It was for a character rigging position, but it seems like it might've been for a broader hiring agency?

Process Pros:

Allowed PDF upload of CV and Resume.

Process Cons:

Had to apply for the job and make a separate account on their website to set up the application.

Confusing website.

Had to upload resume and then type up the resume again.

No place for a CV for the specific role.

Honestly, I'm not sure what company this went to.

Steamroller:

Local studio that I've seen a lot of people go into! Applied for a rigging position in their animation department. Hybrid and remote are both an option for me!

Process Pros:

Allowed PDF upload of CV and Resume.

Easy to apply!

Received a confirmation email.

Credentials were clear and well listed; I matched most of the requirements.

Competitive salary! :)

Flexible work methods.

Allowed me to link to my website AND upload a static portfolio, which I love.

Process Cons:

Likely will not receive a rejection notice should they choose not to hire.

Result: Rejected (03/21/2023)

BonusXP:

Can't speak about the process much on this one! They have a rolling, general application process which means I just send in an email and if a job comes up, they'll let me know. Feels straightforward and simple. :)

Its not a long novel, only 193 pages in manuscript form, since I never ended up expanding it from its earliest versions, but its fairly fast-moving and a fun read with concepts and characters I still think are interesting....but its one that I know I’ll never end up revising and putting out for publication because I ended up cannibalizing a lot of the best parts for other projects. BUT if you’re interested in a full original read from me, here’s one that’ll never end up anywhere else, even my Patreon, since its far enough down the list of original projects that I can safely say it won’t be revisited. I don’t mean to make it sound unappealing, lmao, I do still think its fun! Just that it would still need more expansion to actually be the story I originally set out to tell, and I have too many other later projects that I like better or use similar storylines or concepts.

I bought a humble bundle pack in 2022 for battletech - mostly pdfs, but the big draw was supposed to be a physical copy of the beginners box. Pretty much immediately, they ran out of stock, and the official line was that they'd send an email as soon as they got more in stock.

That was in september of 2022, they promised more by january 2023.

Never got an email.

I ended up sending them an email a few months ago going basically 'hey it sure seems like y'all aren't planning to restock this at all in your online store, funny how I can find copies all over the place but you aren't selling them, is there any way I can use this discount code to get something else so that I'm not out the 25 dollars you promised me' and of course got no response.

Today I checked again, because I was curious, and couldn't find the beginner box listed on the website, either the search function is broken or it's intentionally de-listed, but when I googled 'battletech beginner box humble bundle' to see if anyone on reddit was complaining about it, the sponsored link took me to the catalyst game store.

Weirdly enough, despite the weird underhanded run-around, putting my code into the promotions box actually worked just fine, but it definitely feels a little gross to think about how many people probably forgot about this. Not that I think catalyst made bank off a humble bundle, but considering that all the other rewards were digital, it's definitely a low cost of entry and probably tax-deductible to boot.

Anyway, I'm still not sold on actually PLAYING battletech, but I guess I'm collecting the models at least.

Thess vs The Co-Workers

So there's some good news - I don't have to work overtime today and I might not have to work overtime anymore. That is ... basically it for good news in the work sphere.

The bad news? Oooooh let me count the ways.

First off, it's entirely possible that I might have to work Saturday. See, Goblin's away again tomorrow. I mean, not that she does all that much anyway, but given how things are going at the moment, it'll be enough.

The reason I say this is because "how things are going at the moment" have devolved into every other person who even touches the typing throwing all the hard shit at me while meandering through the short easy stuff. See, we have some new junior doctors (YES, AGAIN; we have so many more junior doctors than our current typing pool can handle even if we weren't inundated with unexpected absences), and they are both very, very bad at dictating. Guess who gets stuck with them? Not to mention the ones with the difficult accents, the ones who handle complicated cases, and the ones who dictate unnecessary bullshit and make the dictations longer than they need to be? That would be me; everybody's punching bag.

The end of the day today was particularly cheeky, as I'd ploughed through several longer bits of typing already and happened to notice that someone else had taken the other two, which was great, I thought! ...At least until those two ended up back in the queue at 5pm. So someone took them out of the queue, ignored them for a good chunk of the afternoon in favour of short snappy reports, and then went, "Oh, I guess I don't have time to do these ones; back into the queue they go! [Thess] can handle them!"

(Side note: I only had the time to handle one of them because the guy who did the dictation for the twelve-minute nightmare made such a mess of the block key that I spent fifteen minutes trying to figure out what the fuck he was doing before I gave up, bolded the problem areas, saved it to PDF, and emailed it to him - copied to our quality control department as per protocol - with the professional version of "THIS IS A MESS; SORT IT OUT".)

It's only now that Scruffman bothered to tell me that he was having issues with putting in my overtime hours; that apparently I had to if he was signing off on them. Of course, no one has ever actually demonstrated how to do that on our system, but I think I figured it out. I say "I think" because I don't see any evidence that the applications are pending and Scruffman apparently didn't have time to get back to me about whether or not there were any issues. That's a significant chunk of overtime pay, and if I don't get it in this month's paycheque, I'm going to be pissed. Though I guess if push comes to shove, it's extra Christmas present money instead of extra MCM Comic Con money.

So at this point, odds are pretty good that while I may not have to work today or tomorrow, I'll end up putting in a few hours on Saturday. Just because my colleagues (including the new temp, who I shall simply call Newbie; I have seen that this individual exists, though they're taking lessons from Temp insofar as leaving me with the long bullshit goes) are lazy fuckers.

Anyway, point is that I'm not committing to doing anything on Saturday because even if I don't have to work, I am a fucking wreck right now. I hurt very badly, I haven't been sleeping properly, I have a stress headache and sinus pressure that's probably going to turn migrainous fairly soon, and overall it's just not good. Like, at all.

Don't even get me started about what's going on in the UK at the moment. I cannot even think about the shit being spewed at the Tory Party Conference. I'm miserable enough without the reminder about how much this country hates me. I would love to say it's not specifically me they hate, but they do hate almost everything I am - or rather, everything I'm not - read, a British-born able-bodied wealthy cishet white male, since I only have one of those going for me. I don't really want to talk about it but it's there. Lurking. It adds to the stress, y'know? And I need way, way less of that.

But my Placid Plastic Duck Simulator has more ducks thanks to a certain bestie. So that's something.

Short answer: No, I do not plan on uploading them again.

Long answer: those two stories are my most hated stories I have ever wrote. They were the stories that I got the most harsh criticism over. Finishing Legerdemain was hard. My motivation was nearly gone. My inspiration shattered. I just wanted to stop writing it. Even now, occasionally, I see hate for that story crop up. It just makes me feel awful and I get upset because I feel like I wasted a year on that story.

Fanfiction writers do this for free. I’m not getting paid. And it takes up a lot of time. This is, essentially, my hobby. I enjoy writing these stories. But you know what really sucks? When people can’t click an x and just leave without complaining. When people can’t leave a review if they like a story. The only reason I soldiered through with Legerdemain instead of dropping it completely was for the small little group of people who reviewed every week and were so encouraging and amazing. If any of those people would like I copy of the story, I’m more than willing to email you the PDF.

I share my stories because I like engaging in the fandom. I love talking about headcanons with all of you and talking about our two favorite idiots falling in love over and over and over again. It makes writing fanfiction and sharing it fun.

What I hate is how I have had to block certain tumblrs who would harass me over one thing or another. I hate how I have someone on Reddit who likes to tell lies about me every time a story of mine is recommended. I hate how people can’t just be kind and supportive.

So, yes, the stories are gone for my own mental health. No, I don’t plan on ever uploading them again. But I don’t get paid. I do this for free. So if I need to take down stories where people were unkind, I can.

If you hate stories that are abandoned or taken down, then step up and leave kind reviews. Someone did a poll on tumblr about how often readers review stories. The number of never reviewers was just astonishing. I didn’t understand it. I’m not the best reviewer (which is surprising because I’m so long-winded) but I always review what I read. Even if I don’t know what to say, I say I loved it. While I want to find time to sit down and read ALL of these amazing microfics sometime soon, the ones I have read I have left little comments on. I didn’t just like them or reblog them. No, I left comments because that’s what matters. The encouragement. We’re all amateurs who do this for free. If you don’t start engaging, you may find your favorite fanfiction authors or meta writers or fanartists leave the fandom because they’re tired of the negativity and the hate.
