MY BAD BATCH S3 PREDICTIONS!

Specifically WHO is going to live or die?

I'm sorry...but...because I think his character arc is near it's end. And, because of Disney's ad art for The Bad Batch S3: Hunter.

This is hard for me to say...he's one of my favorites. Of course, I LOVE the whole group. So this is going to be painful.

I truly wonder if indeed Tech is gone and we are all hoping for SOMEONE in one of those helmeted scenes to be him. However...if what Dee Bradley Baker has said to fans is correct...we aren't going to get a very happy ending. So, I think not.

Wrecker was shown prominently in the trailer. Wondering if our favorite Himbo is at the end of his character arc as well? REALLY hoping he gets some great scenes and even a little more character growth before we lose him.

So...who lives? Crosshair, Echo, Phee, and Omega. And they all go on to work as a team. Imagine our two grumpiest characters sharing a ship together...

The Defective Clone and the Reg. Who'd have thought?

Phee and Omega watching these two bickering on the daily. While Phee and Omega drag them into crazy missions that they cannot refuse...while working with the Rebellion.

It's probably not going to happen though. I have a feeling that the ending of S3 is going to be dark. Maybe Disney will leave room for the big thing running through all of the Star Wars Universe: HOPE.

Day 27: Trick-or-treating

Warnings: none

One thing Bradley found endlessly amusing about you was that you really liked trick-or-treating.

So much so that you really wanted to do it again.

As usual you had grown out of it, not being allowed to go anymore when you were deemed ‘old enough’, but secretly you really missed it.

Bradley had been the first boyfriend you had felt comfortable enough to tell and when you did he started joking about it, but in a loving, rather respectful way.

Every year you watched the little ones pass by and you were so excited when you had a kid, enjoying every bit of her growing up, but especially being there for her first trick-or-treating.

You had asked Mav to house sit for the evening as the two of you wanted to go with little Carrie, named after Bradley’s mother, not King’s heroine, for her first ever trick-or-treating.

She was wearing a flight suit that looked just like her dad’s, because she was very much her daddy’s girl.

Carrie was still quite young but after a few times during which you went up to the door with her she enthusiastically did it on her own, her little voice carrying just far enough to bring the telltale ‘trick or treat!’ exclamation to the family’s ears.

Most of the houses you had chosen were owned by people you knew, your neighbors, friends and family were all delighted when your little sunshine came to visit, in her dad’s outfit nonetheless.

The oohs and awws were music to your ears and your little angel was encouraged by so many positive social interactions.

You were incredibly happy that evening and just relished in the happiness you and Bradley had created for yourself, and your baby girl.

You followed her around a few feet behind and watched Bradley’s grin of pride as well, his chest seemed to swell every time someone said that his baby was cute or kind, and you reached out your hand to intertwine your fingers with his, sharing his joy and pride.

His thumb continuously ran over the back of your hand and he occasionally squeezed it too, seeming as happy as you were in the moment.

You followed Carrie around until you ended up at your next door neighbor's house, a sweet older lady that always loved to see your little joy.

She cooed when she opened the door and waited until Carrie said what she had come to say, the ‘r’ in ‘trick’ and ‘treat’ turning into a ‘w’ due to her exhaustion because of the excitement of the day.

Mrs. Baker only smiled as a yawn left your daughter’s lips.

“My, you seem to have had a busy day,” she said and Carrie nodded, waiting for your neighbor to bring out the candy.

The elder lady took her time as she looked at Carrie’s outfit, and then back over to Bradley and you.

Your husband pulled you closer and wrapped an arm around your waist, looking back at your neighbor with pure happiness.

“You want to be like daddy some day?” She asked, and Carrie nodded vigorously.

A humorous look crossed Mrs. Baker’s face as she glanced at you, knowing exactly what it would mean for you.

You laughed back at her and she moved to get the candy, holding it out so Carrie could grab a handful of it.

The little one scurried back towards you and you ran a hand through her hair while Bradley took the candy from her.

After saying goodbye you went home to Mav, who took Carrie upstairs and got her ready for bed.

You followed Bradley into the kitchen where he sat the bucket filled with candy down, turning around to pull you closer until you were pressed against him, with him leaning against the kitchen isle.

He leaned over to press a kiss to your forehead before pulling away to look at you.

“I know you love trick-or-treating. Was it like you imagined?” He asked as his lips ghosted over your cheeks.

“It was better,” you replied, remembering how happy seeing your little one had made you.

Bradley chuckled as his lips moved to yours, setting a few soft kisses on them.

“I’m glad. I love you,” he whispered, before he started to kiss you in earnest.

BRADLEY 'ROOSTER' BRADSHAW:

If you had a rough day probably the first thing that he would do is just hug you. And by hug you I mean like full on bearhug you.

You would still be in work clothes, fighting tears as you pushed the door of the house open when he would just engulf you.

He would also stay there for as long as you needed him to. Eventually you would sort of pull away from each other but only for a few minutes as he would help you get settled in.

You would both be wearing the softest and most comfiest clothes imaginable as you settled into the couch.

He probably would have prepared some kind of warm comfort drink or a whole bunch of random comfort food when he heard you were having a bad day.

Bradley also had this kind of sixth sense when it came to you so he already had the perfect movie chosen out and ready to go on the tv.

You would spend the rest of the night chatting in between scenes and also crying a bit more… but you knew that you were safe around him and that he would always be around to help in any way he possibly could.

Also he would probably threaten (playfully) to hurt the person that annoyed you, you knew that he would never do such a thing - he’s just a big softie but it was the thought that counts right?

NATASHA 'PHOENIX' TRACE:

Ok she would probably not so playfully threaten to murder a few of the people who annoyed you… including anyone that just looked at you wrong.

She’s a sweetheart to you though, after you had texted her to tell her you weren’t doing great she probably would have dropped everything and started to prepare some of your favorite desserts - she’s secretly a really good baker…

You might have arrived home fighting tears and the first thing that she would do is sort of just hold you and tell you to just let it all out.

You had been there through some of her worst moments so you sort of both knew how to deal when this sort of thing happens.

Nat would probably urge you to have a shower or maybe even made up a whole elaborate bath thing so you could relax. After you probably wouldn’t watch anything instead you would sit in bed and read your respective books with bodies entwined in comfort.

Nat was the best at giving cuddles and you would both be covered in mounds of blankets as you exchanged your favorite quotes.

You would fall asleep cuddled up close to each other as soft jazz music played in the background and the fireplace crackled from next to your bed.

JAKE 'HANGMAN' SERESIN:

He probably would have driven a little too fast to pick you up from work but who cares about speeding rules when he needs to get to you? (please do care about speeding rules DO NOT ACT LIKE JAKE in this situation)

He would find you standing outside of the office fighting off an incoming panic attack and he would quickly know what to do. Jake would probably get you calmed down first before getting you bundled into the seat.

Throughout the whole ride back home he would probably be holding your hand and playing all of your favorite songs on the radio.

Jake doesn’t like other people to see that he actually has a heart sometimes - hence acting like an asshole most of the time but when he’s with you he knows he’s safe to just love you.

When you’re home he probably makes your comfort food for dinner and serves it to you in bed before cuddling in to watch whatever show you’re both loving at the moment.

Also FOREHEAD KISSES.

All that time in bed you would be enclosed in Jake’s arms and he would play with your hair constantly, something that eases you into dreamland quickly after finishing your wonderful dinner.

The Dez Illusion / Salt in the Wound Voice Claims

THE VOICE CLAIMS ARE FINISHED FINALLY

This has been in the works for a loooong time. The hardest part was finding these DAMNED VOICES. By FAR the hardest voice to find was Rakell’s, but his game out very nicely!

Here’s some general notes I have for everyone, if you wanna read.

Erandur (Keith Szarabajka) - (TDI / SITW) No issues with his original VA. Gruff but very sweet and comforting.

Serana (Laura Bailey) - (TDI / SITW) Again, no issues with her original VA. Blunt and sassy, very capable of dry humor.

Miraak (Peter Jessop) - (TDI / SITW) I couldn’t not use his original voice, it’s just so dramatic and grumpy.

Sanguine (William Salyers) - (TDI / SITW) Originally went looking for a more smooth-talking, charming voice, but nothing I found could quite keep the same level of mischief that his og voice had. So, while I think the perfect voice is out there somewhere, og voice is still wonderful.

Ancano (Alexander Brandon) - (TDI / SITW) Love his og voice, it’s so pompous and entitled. In a perfect world I would be able to find something like this with a sailor/pirate accent, but this is pretty close.

Ego (Dan Avidan) - (TDI / SITW) When first starting this project, a bunch of buddies told me that Dan Avidan fit their voice, and it just kinda stuck lol. I think Dan’s voice works especially well in SITW, the only thing I could ask more from it is if it matched Erandur’s accent a little. But, it still adds a lovely charm and goofiness that Ego definitely needs!

Rakell (Grahame Fox) - (TDI / SITW) Like I said, my buddies and I went through a LOT of grief trying to find the right voice for him. He probably went through the most changes, from Stoic (HTTYD) to Sir Gideon Ofnir (Elden Ring). Eygon ended up being the perfect fit, with as low and growls as he was.

Iren (Richard Schiff) - (pre-TDI) What a wonderfully soothing voice, made specially to lull you into a false sense of security, but bleeding with wisdom.

Velehk Sain (Josh Keaton) - (TDI / SITW) A good commanding voice, though aired with a type of softness that he can’t seem to loose, like he’s trained his voice to be authoritative but it doesn’t always hit the mark. When it’s soft, it sounds the most natural. My only wishes are that his voice was a tad bit higher and had a pirate inflection.

Caspian (Johnny Depp) - (SITW) Wild, loud, and slurred, Captain Jack just worked so very well for Caspian.

Kyrahk (Scott Porter) - (SITW) The perfect level of arrogance, perfect vocabulary, perfect speed. His voice only throws me off because I wish it sounded a bit older or lower.

Molag Bal (Graham McTavish) - (TDI / SITW) Ironic that a vampire would voice the father of all vampires. Perfect all around, being dark, broody, and ever-intimidating, and sounds damn good when annoyed!

Mehrunes Dagon (Christopher Judge) - (TDI / SITW) Low, wise, blunt, and intimidating, very perfect for Dagon. I only wish he had a better yelling voice. While Kratos’ yells are short and change his tone, I always imagined Dagon’s yells as long and rumbly.

Hermaeus Mora (Dee Bradley Baker) - (TDI / SITW) This voice is the stuff of nightmares. Glorious.

Sheogorath (Wes Johnson) - (TDI / SITW) HE’S SHEOGORATH BABY!!

Vaermina (Ellen McLain) - (TDI) Proper and highly sassy, cruel and cold, but always sounding lovely. My only wish was to get rid of the robotic effect a little—not fully.

Love to Lie, Bradley Bradshaw, @ddejavvu INCREDIBLE! Oh my. I don’t want to spoil anything, because it needs to be experienced,  but it has all the emotions and I love it. Genuinely got upset when this finished, I looked forward to it every week! :)

In a way this fic kind of changed my life, because now I’ve written fics for him and read so many too! It’s honestly such a delight to read and both fun but also sad. Very Bradley. I love it. 

the one where they go camping, Bradley Bradshaw, @ofstoriesandstardust OKAY SO I LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH! It has a bit of everything! The angst is there and so well written and also a trope I really enjoy to read. One of the other reasons I love it,is because it is so immersive! There’s a whole world and I feel like I’m the one going away with my friends! Very relatable, as are all of Ky’s fics!

Tech speaks very differently from other clones. He has a different accent, avoids contractions and informal slang, and uses precise wording to describe things. He also tends to gesture a great deal and utilize almost exaggerated facial expressions, which makes his communication style stand out. As an autistic viewer, this is all very interesting to me because these can all be autistic traits, and since Dee Bradley Baker went on-record saying that Tech reads as autistic to him, I think that we can assume that some of this was intentional autistic coding. Let’s take a closer look at Tech’s wonderful (and very autistic) communication style.

Tech’s many hand gestures and exaggerated body language make sense in combat situations since his face is covered and he still needs to physically communicate with his squad mates, but this behavior also persists outside of active combat and is paired up with intense facial expressions, so I think that there might be more going on. When you are autistic, you are basically born without the innate social skills that most non-autistic people have, and facial expressions and gestures are among these skills. Some autistic people may come across as having a “flat affect” because they don’t instinctively move their faces and bodies in a way that people expect, but others overcompensate for their difficulty with neurotypical-style nonverbal communication by turning the nonverbal communication cues up to eleven. Tech strikes me as someone who has to consciously choreograph his facial expressions and body movements, and due to his intense focus, they come off as a bit exaggerated. He was raised in a culture where everyone is literally a clone of the same person, so his communication differences likely stood out to his peers early on, making him feel a needed to mask them to fit in.

Tech’s formal, precise speech is known in medical literature as “pedantic speech”, which is a terrible name in my opinion because it implies intentional condescension. As someone who speaks a bit like Tech, I don’t do it to make people feel small or intellectually inferior, but I do it because I have a hard time knowing what comes off as “overly-formal” or “stilted”. While Tech can certainly be pedantic, I don’t think that the way that he speaks comes from a place of arrogance. He just sees it as the way he naturally speaks and he likely never picked up on the levels of formality and that exist in human speech. Tech also spends a great deal of time buried in research, and I imagine that he spent more time buried in holobooks than socializing with his peers as a child, so he may not have picked up on their register and slang. He may have gotten his accent from interacting with instructional and research materials where the presenter had a similar accent, and being socially isolated (as both a “defective” clone and autistic child) meant that he didn’t develop the same accent as his peers.

There are a lot of really subtle, cool things going on with Tech’s characterization in terms of his communication style. I’m not sure how much of this is intentional autistic coding or the writers adding general “nerd” character traits (which I suspect originate from people’s observation of “nerdy” people that they had no idea were autistic), but it’s weirdly affirming to see social behaviors that I have and relate to in one of my favorite characters. While other characters get annoyed with Tech (which is entirely realistic, since non-autistic people don’t always “get” why we communicate the way that we do), no one tries to change the way that Tech communicates. They just accept him for who he is.

What would be your voice fancasts for your version of Donkey Kong/Donkey Kong Country franchise?

Fun fact: the reason I never answered your DM to me with this question is mostly because I was trying to figure out who would be best for who, but also because I was trying to decide if I should make this a public thing or not, so thanks for helping make that choice. XD

I know this says fancasts for my version, but I went more of a "general voice headcanon" route for most of these. Some also have the actual fancasts, or at the very least the people I wouldn't be upset about having be the VAs even if the voice winds up different from what I hear in my head.

I could really only figure out the Kongs, so uh... Ye. Also, all the underlined names are linked to pages to see more of the stuff they've done!

DK: Mark Fischbach. Zero rhyme or reason, other than I spent a full year drawing practically nothing except DKC characters set to GMOD moments, mostly Markiplier's, so now it's all I hear. However, I would not be mad if Richard Yearwood reprises the role (or even Sterling Jarvis).

Diddy: Ben Schwartz. My Diddy is more teenager-adjacent than most people's probably is (around 14), and I'd be lying if I said my hyperfixation with DuckTales 2017 a couple years back didn't have anything to do with that.

Cranky: This one is surprisingly hard to pin down. Here recently I've been imagining him more with Keith David's voice, but in the past I've also imagined David Tennant, Bernard Cribbins, and Aron Tager (his VA in the cartoon), the latter two of whom have both sadly passed in the last couple of years. I'll also happily take Bill Farmer, tho. For me it all depends on the tone and other factors of the situation presented (eg, an AU, the actual game series, others' interpretations, etc).

Funky: Gotta still be Damon D'Olivera, his VA from the cartoon, but I wouldn't be against Phil LaMarr or Greg Eagles voicing him either.

Candy: I do not hate Joy Tanner's voice for her in the cartoon at all. In fact, like Funky, it's mostly all I can hear for her. If I had to choose someone else to fill the role, it'd probably be Jennifer Hale.

Dixie: I think I had the most trouble with her surprisingly. I didn't necessarily like or hate her voice in the cartoon, but I have to go with Mae Whitman on this one. I was thinking along the lines of how Amity from The Owl House sounds, if you wanna know the thought process.

Wrinkly: Wendie Malick is the only voice I've really actively pictured for my specific version of her. The second I heard the line "Wait---those are MY dumb kids!" in The Owl House, my brain has never let the idea drop. However, if there ever actually is a show version of the DKC series that included her, I would not be against Tress MacNeille being her VA.

Swanky: Will Arnett is just how I hear him by default (I blame DK Vine in part). IDK, similar reasons to Diddy in that it has to do with other fixations of mine colliding into my brain. However, here recently my brain has also been tickled by the idea of James Monroe Iglehart being his voice in a version of the show that actually uses him.

Kiddy: OK, so y'all know how my brain runs. Sadly, sometimes I forget about him. However, I feel like Dee Bradley Baker is a safe bet.

Lanky: Rob Paulsen. IDK, even his normal voice just works.

Tiny: Kristen Schaal, solely because sometimes there's moments of her that cross my mind that make me go "Oh that's Louise Belcher (or Mabel Pines) vibes."

Chunky: Of all the actors, voice or otherwise, I've dug through today to find voices for characters I otherwise couldn't picture... I'ma have to give Chunk the monk Richard Horvitz. It also helps that this is literally one of those VAs I grew up hearing, so I can imagine the role working well, although other VAs mentioned throughout this list could potentially also work well.

Originally the Kongs from the actual DKC series proper is all I was gonna do for now, because it's late and brain hurty, but y'all know me a little better than that. I've got at least two bonus people for y'all.

K. Rool: Similar to a couple of characters above, I'd love it if Benedict Campbell could reprise the role, as he's literally the only voice I've been able to hear for him for years. However, that being said, there are a few others I will accept in his place, being Mark Hamill; Keith David (mentioned above); Clancy Brown; and Alex Hirsch.

DK Jr.: You said it was a fancast for my version, so while I know some people think Junior and our DK are the same person, in this instance I don't. I've racked my brain for a while trying to figure out who I best hear as his voice, and I had songs from a certain Disney animated show playing on loop last night and anyway, long story short, Jeremy Jordan is the headcanon voice for my version of him.

oof this is a great question- i haven't actually thought about this but here's what i got based on vibes and what i think i know about them lmao

imma be honest, it's hard to not imagine bradley going into the military to become an aviator like his dad. however, if carole was really adamant about him not enrolling and told him so, he would compromise and become a commercial pilot. this way he's still able to be in the air like he's always imagined as a child.

SUPER TROOPER (#130, JAN 2012)

Dee Bradley Baker might just be the busiest member of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cast. He certainly had his work cut out when voicing the clones during their deadly encounter with Jedi Master Pong Krell on the planet Umbara. Interview by Jonathan Wilkins

When you first signed on to do the show, did you ever imagine that you’d be working on such complex storylines as the recent Umbara story arc?

The short answer is “No.” This is insane! Not only to be involved in a show that’s gotten so big, so deep, and so gratifying to watch as a fan, but also to be involved in the Umbara arc is striking in a lot of ways. One of them is the involvement of Walter Murch, whose work with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola includes THX-1138 and Apocalypse Now. He is very exacting, very thoughtful, and has a unique directorial mind. Despite all the fun things that I get to do on the show, to be directed by Walter for episodes like this is a whole different level from anything I’ve been involved with. I can hardly believe it. As I was watching it up on the screen at Skywalker Ranch I was amazed. It’s really knockout stuff.

When you first saw those scripts, can you remember your initial thoughts?

My initial thoughts were Oh, boy! Here’s another clone arc! It’s always very challenging and interesting, and a lot of fun. As we got into it, and as we marched across the dark planet of Umbara, with a Jedi general who has strategies and methods that are not in line with what the clones are used to, I realized that we had something here that we’ve never seen before.

To spend four episodes on this planet, trying to fight our way out and trying to find how to get along with this general, was really rather difficult for me. With the level of personal involvement I feel with these clones, to be sent into this story with this despicable character actually bothered me. It’s something I’d never seen before in this show and it was not an easy thing to bring to the surface, but once it got out there, it became pretty dramatic!

So how did you overcome those feelings?

The only way to overcome them is to fully realize them, and that’s really what we did in this show. This story and the performances don’t pull any punches. You see Rex pretty much lose it at one point, which I’ve never seen before. You see clones that come into conflict with their general in a way you’ve never seen, and the only way to exorcise that is to bring it all out and bring it to life. This is more like a war film and really has some interesting issues involved in terms of who the clones are, what the war is, how they deal with the difficult situation and how the war is fought.

Rex is incredibly popular with the younger fans (see page 19). Was there ever any concern whether they would be okay dealing with such dark themes?

This is not a show that I think is written with just kids in mind. I think this is a story that George Lucas wants to put out there, and most of it appeals to kids, but a lot of it appeals to adults and deals with issues that are in the adult world.

This story is predestined to play out in a way that everybody already understands in Episode III. The fans who know and love this series know what’s coming. I think it’s something you can expect to manifest itself more and more as we get closer to Episode III with our television series. With the television format and the length of the series, we’re able to portray it with depth and reality, and with a sense of humor and humanity that adds so much to the epic storyline of this saga.

How important do you think Season One’s “Rookies” was in putting the clones to the forefront for episodes like these?

To my mind, that was really the first big experiment: whether we could throw an entire storyline to these clones, who in the feature films were not really presented with distinct personalities or any sort of differentiation. It was a really cool creative risk to step out and do that and I think most people will agree that it really paid off. It showed that these guys were interesting and different. We can always go back to the clones because actually, they have a lot to do with what’s interesting about this whole conflict. What happens to the humans that are thrown into this war to fight against droids? These guys are intelligent, they’re flexible, they have a sense of humor and you love them because of it! They’re able to adapt and think, and to attack their problems and solve them as humans facing great odds, and a great war. This comes in the face of the manipulation that they’re really only beginning to become aware of and, in this case, perhaps even against one of their own commanders.

The humanity of the clones makes what happens in Revenge of the Sith even more tragic and poignant.

Absolutely. That’s the thing that’s killing me: I want to know how this plays out for Rex! He’s Anakin’s right hand man; he’s there for him! What happens to Rex? I want to know what happens to Ventress, and to Ahsoka, for goodness sake! But for me, it’s about what happens to Rex. I’ve heard that the finale’s been discussed, but to my knowledge, it hasn’t been decided yet. But then again, I’m pretty far down the command chain!

How important is the writing in separating the various clone characters?

The differentiation comes from the really marvelous writing on this show—that’s ultimately my guide in separating the fellows and portraying their distinctness clearly. I don’t know all the writers, but that ultimately is the compass for me. The bedrock of any good show, whether it’s dramatic or comedic, is the writer, and it’s often an unsung position or part of the whole project. But you can’t have a good show without good writing: I don’t care how good the rest of it is. We’ve got great writers and I rely on them every episode!

When you’re working with (supervising director) Dave Filoni, what sort of direction does he give you?

Dave’s very clear. He knows the story and the clones. He’s an ultra Star Wars nerd, and deeply involved with this entire universe. He knows what he’s talking about. Working under him is easy, because he knows what he wants. That’s ultimately what you need as a voice actor—a good script and a director who knows what they want. We get a lock on that right up front and we pretty much go straight through recording these days.

Doesn’t that get confusing?

It used to, but now we’re used to setting the characters. We have a little method for setting their status, their degree of obedience, their age and all these other things so that I can flip back and forth with just a quick little note I make next to their name on the side of the script. I don’t get asked to do something like this ever. From a voice actor’s standpoint, it’s a very unique project.

Do you think there can be more stories like the Umbara arc?

Yes there can, and there will. I have it on good authority. Bring in the drop-ship and let’s go!

Dee Bradley Baker on why kids can’t get enough of Captain Rex!

Captain Rex is what a kid aspires to in a lot of ways. He’s smart, dependable, strong, able, flexible, and able to make things happen, and also to be a integral part to the story. All of these, I think, are things that a kid wants, and Rex is that in an attainable way. He’s not a Jedi or superhuman. He’s also the right hand man of the central character [Anakin]. Kids may think, If this human can be so important to the main character—the Chosen One—why couldn’t I be heroic like that? ! think these days people want to be that hero character because the world needs heroes. We know that there are villains; we’ve seen that quite clearly in the past and throughout history. People thirst to see the heroic, and to partake in that, and that’s a part of what’s so brilliant about this series. It brings that out in sort of its own epic, mythological, fantasy kind of way, but this is real stuff! I think it speaks for that yearning for the heroic that people have in themselves, that really ties them into the series and to Rex.
