wow yall really are gluttons for pain,, honestly this might be a bit shorter than the others

hangman was deployed on a mission earlier that month and so he didn't get news that you we're on your own mission until he got back

of course he had faith you'd return, he knew you were one of the best aviators he's ever met

and so when he got the call that you were shot down protecting your wingman and they weren't able to find you, he was in disbelief

there was no way you would leave him behind

there was so much he had planned for you both

he wanted to eventually propose, he even had the ring ready he was just waiting for a time you both were off..

he thought about buying a bigger house near the beachside

he even thought about having a family with you

and now, all those dreams seemed like they were being ripped away from him

and when your crew got back, he still waited to see if maybe you'd turn up

instead he was faced with the disheartened look of your wingman

no words were exchanged when he came face to face with them, just a simple teary eyed nod between the two of them and a tight hug

jake honestly did think about lashing out but he realised it wouldnt help anyone and you'd give him that disappointing look that would always put him in his place

and when he parted ways with your wingman he was faced with the admiral sending his condolences and reassurance that they are still trying their best to search for you

he simply nodded and thanked cyclone and went back to your shared apartment

he was granted leave for however long he needed and most of the time spent was at home

he didn't want anyone to see him like this

and yet his friends still came to visit and try to cheer him up

he really appreciated the gesture and he knew in the back of his head that you'd hate for him to cope alone

and then it happened

a call that you were found

jake just dropped the phone and sat down on the couch in shock

rooster patted his back and phoenix just "hey, jake what happened? who called?"

"they found y/n."

at this point the silence is deafening until fanboy speaks up

everyone just scrambles and gets up to go to base waiting your arrival, jake of course is speeding ahead of the pack

so the way i interpreted this was if he was feeling sad and how you would handle it-

okay so,, i've thought about this a lot recently, going off what we know-

maverick is in his 50s, i'm pretty sure he's specifically 57 years old

bradley we know is 35 years old from his file

maverick pulling his papers held him back 4 years,, so i would think he is the oldest out of all the pilots since his career was held back

going off of this, i feel like the next oldest would be hangman and i totally believe he's like three years younger than rooster so he'd be 32

i think payback would be next at 31

then we have both phoenix and coyote in the same class at 30

basing this off of that hello the two of them say to each other in the movie, they have definitely interacted before this

so, the way im taking this as if you are younger than bradley- in the movie his file says he's 35, so im just gonna base this on if you were like 25 so a 10 year difference,,

im sure some people found your relationship with rooster to be a bit peculiar

i know usually that the crew wouldn't realistically stick together after the mission in the movie but lets pretend they do-

another successful mission called for a celebration of course

and so you, bradley, and everyone else headed into the hard deck

of course, hangman and coyote got settled real quick in playing a game of pool

bob settled into one of the stools with a beer and trail mix listening to fanboy and payback argue about something stupid

while you, bradley, and phoenix drank a couple of beers and played a round or two of darts

and to up the ante, you all decided whoever lost had to take shots of the winner's choice

so of course phoenix bested you and rooster both

at this point you were already feeling buzzed but rooster drinks beer like its water so he was fine

once phoenix returned with the shots, rooster downed his real quick with little trouble meanwhile you struggled a bit

"aw fuck is that tequila??"

phoenix just laughs at your pain

"i mean, we agreed on dealers choice right? maybe you should get better at shootin y/c/s"

and being as competitive as you are, you challenged her and bradley to another game

i think this is hilarious because i myself am terrified of heights and in love with roost too so i hope you enjoy

you just came to visit home for the summer and by pure luck was able to land a job at the hard deck

he just chuckles because when you go on these question sessions you ask the most random stuff

"i don't think i ever had a fear of heights, i was always so fascinated by being up in the sky simply because my dad told so many cool stories about him and mav up there. concerning how it felt on my first flight, it was like my stomach and my heart were falling out of my body but like,, in a good way if that makes sense- like i had been preparing all my life to be in a jet up there and now that it was finally happening, i was in shock. to me, it feels so liberating up there and it gives me a way to feel closer to my dad-"

while he's busy answering your questions you just lean close and nod intently, fascinated by the answers he's given and appreciating the fact he chose to share so much about himself

"for your last question, i guess i kinda answered it but i like to think it runs in the family. the way i feel so connected to my dad along with the rush i feel when im up there is indescribable. being able to see everything down below from the skies is just so cool to me"

and when he's done answering you just come into focus and he smiles knowing you were listening so intently

if they weren’t in the military what jobs do you think the pilots would have?

oof this is a great question- i haven't actually thought about this but here's what i got based on vibes and what i think i know about them lmao

1. rooster

imma be honest, it's hard to not imagine bradley going into the military to become an aviator like his dad. however, if carole was really adamant about him not enrolling and told him so, he would compromise and become a commercial pilot. this way he's still able to be in the air like he's always imagined as a child.

2. hangman

i can totally see him becoming a fireman. idk why he just gives me those vibes. plus, all the ladies l o v e firemen in uniform (can't you imagine him in it aaaaa)

3. phoenix

i can vividly imagine nat being a baker or chef. i like to think she baked and cooked a bunch for her family (especially her younger brothers) when she was younger and if her mom was busy with work so she'd totally pursue that in the future.

4. bob

oh my god i love this request so much i hope i do it some justice-

as soon as the words "so, you're my new backseater?" leaves phoenix's mouth and bob nods, i feel like they almost instantly became buddies

however, this is only truly solidified when they both went in the air with each other

at that point forward i feel like phoenix officially adopted bob as like her younger brother (going of the headcanon i made earlier, i stated that phoenix is the type to have younger brothers, so this is fitting)

funnily enough, bob definitely feels reminded of his older sisters when he's with phoenix- she definitely defends and cares for him like they do

getting the foundation out of the way, these two become quite the chaotic pair

i feel like phoenix definitely initiates the chaotic shenanigans, but bob puts the ideas in her head in the first place

they definitely love to push hangman's buttons with the teasing

rooster is their second target as well

and somehow they always manage to make rooster and hangman team up to get them back in prank wars

bob gets annoyed at phoenix especially if shes late for training or hangouts

honestly she's surprised it came out so well and then bob explains it's because he has older sisters

she's kinda in shock because she didn't know and bob is like well, you didn't ask

so now phoenix always hits bob with random questions just to get to know him even better

ooh in the mornings, they definitely eat breakfast at the same table on base

phoenix makes sure bob gets enough to eat- she says it's just to make sure her backseater has enough energy to be useful to the mission, but everyone (including bob) knows its because she loves him like a brother

ooh these two gossip like no other and surprisingly enough, bob is the one who brings most of the tea

you know how he's always so quiet and no one notices him, so he is witness to a lot of shit going down

sometimes phoenix may even use this info as leverage to get any of the boys to do favours for her lmao

in terms of the movie, after they make it back to the carrier and leave the plane, they give each other the tightest hug

both incredibly happy they made it back safely and they even have a photo to remember this moment

they both have copies of this photo and have it somewhere in their house

and i like to think that after this mission, phoenix doesn't see anyone as being her wso besides bob and bob thinks the same

as a lieutenant in the navy it's a given you have to stay pretty fit to do your job

and so today was leg day for you

typically you get up early for a workout, just so you don't run into too many people so you were out your door by 05:30

and you arrived at the (almost empty) gym not that much later

after doing a quick 30 minutes of warm up cardio and streching, you decided it was time to start working on legs

not that long after, bob arrived at the gym too

he's actually really disciplined when it comes to working out

today was arms for him and so after he warmed up he made his way over to the lat pull down machine

and from across the room, he saw you

you were at the seated leg press with your headphones on completely focused on your reps

honestly he found it really impressive that you were pressing the weight you were-

however your expression did intimidate him a bit...

granted he saw you around base often being that you two were both lieutenants and works in the same field

but he never interacted with you before besides the occasional hello while passing by

and he was less inclined than he usually is to do so because he 1. is shy and 2. you are just so,, intimidating and hot-

and he didn't mean for this to happen but while he was working out his eyes would just wander and he saw how muscular your thighs were and he blushed

he really didnt think he would be so attracted to legs, especially thighs but you proved him wrong

after about an hour, you decided you were done for the day and that it would be best to go run your errands, especially since you finally had an off day and time to do everything

bob kinda glanced over while doing his workouts and saw you make your way out, and after another hour, he left as well

later that evening, you and bob found yourselves drinking with some friends at the hard deck

funnily enough, you and bob do have some mutual friends

namely one of them being rooster

speak of the devil and he shall come-

you smirk a little and look up from your drink at him

at this point bob is pulled out of his train of thought when he hears rooster playing some chords on the piano

but oddly enough its not "great balls of fire" for once

and so he's dragged over to a seat closer to the piano by phoenix

and you and rooster begin to sing "i say a little prayer"

and its like he's heard an angel

the harmony between you and rooster leaves most of the patrons in the bar speechless

especially bob himself

and the smile you have on your face while singing along feels so contagious

at this point he knows he has more than a small crush on you

when you and bradley eventually finish the song, he high fives you and begins the chords for everyone's favourite-

yep you guessed it, great balls of fire

and you just make your way back to the bar for a break and a little drink

before you even order though, bob gets pushed beside you by phoenix and he nervously takes a seat next to you

"u-um hey lieutenant y/l/n, you probably don't remember me but i'm-"

"oh hey bob how are you?"

he's so confused and speechless rn

"wait what, you know my name?"

"well, of course i do, i mean we're in the same department. i literally say hello to you every day- wait, do you not know my name?"

and he just shakes his head

and you laugh a bit

i like to think even though rooster and mav weren't on good terms because of the papers stuff, mav still attended his graduation, but from afar. he doesn't want to ruin bradley's moment and make him feel uncomfortable with the tension between them, so instead of mav tapping rooster out, it would be his uncle iceman. they exchange a tight hug and ice tells bradley how proud he is of him and how proud he knows his parents would be. after graduation, maverick comes up to bradley and tells him he's proud of him and gives him a card he wrote expressing all his feelings. bradley doesn't initiate a hug, so mav doesn't force one on him, instead they just exchange a solemn nod with each other. ice wishes the two could reconcile but he understands the situation and pats the both of them on the back.

when bradley is alone, he decides to open mav's letter. inside, he expresses how proud he is of him for graduating and how much he resembles his old man. he also apologises again for the strained relationship they have, he doesn't touch on details, but he tells bradley that whenever he's ready to talk to him about it, he's there and he'll always be there for him when he needs him. closing out the letter, mav expresses how thankful he is to have seen him grow up and see what becomes of him, how much he loves him, and his hopes that the two can mend their relationship on bradley's own time.

after closing the letter, rooster smiles and wipes a couple tears away, putting the letter in a box of other ones mav's sent him. though he is still angry with mav, he believes the least he can do is give a response to the letter and sends mav a short text back

they had a curfew (course it got extended later when they got older) and strong recommendations to not date while in school-
