Involving kids in battles
There are a lot of opinions about Cale Henituse, formerly known as Kim Rok Soo. Some readers love him and some readers don't. Some find him funny and some think he's annoying. Some see his selflessness and some judge him as selfish.
He's a very complex character that is just tired of the bullshit the gods did to a lot of people including himself.
But the one thing that some readers do not like about him is how he includes kids in wars and battles against multiple powerful threats.
I've made a post about female characters that slightly mentions this. It can be found during On's part in the post if you're curious.
So here's the thing about the kids in TCF, or rather, the kids in Cale's group. They're strong in different ways.
And most of them, excluding Lily and Basen, are not humans.
To understand why I think their presence in battles are okay, let me first bring up Kim Rok Soo's past to understand the way he thinks.
As we all know, at least the ones who finished the first book, Kim Rok Soo did not have the best life. His parents died from a car accident when he was young and he was left to his abusive uncle. He was mostly alone with no connections to other people (for reasons you need to read about if you haven't yet) until the apocalypse (when he was a young part-timer) happened where he had to survive by himself until he became a member of a team with different abilities. He was a member who had to fight and watch people die when he was young until he's 36 years old.
He doesn't have a normal life and childhood.
'Kim Rok Soo had once had to starve in the past. He did not enjoy seeing children looking so skinny. Although Lock had always looked feeble and his tall height made him skinny from the start, he seemed even thinner now.' - Chapter 234: Something Obvious (3)
So if a person who grew up under these circumstances is suddenly thrusted into another world where anyone can die easily, what would he do?
Basen and Lily
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His first reaction to the idea of Basen being sent to the plaza where Cale knows a tragedy might happen, is to agree with Deruth's idea of replacing Basen, knowing full well that his younger brother will not come back completely fine, especially since he's a normal kid. He chose to sacrifice his safety for a brother he barely knows since he recently just got transmigrated in this strange world. Basen is more fit to help in their territory than to fight in battles. And he does not see this as a weakness.
When Lily asks for a sword instead of a normal toy a child of her age would normally want, he easily agrees. This is a kid who wants to learn how to fight. He knows that there will be war coming to Roan Kingdom and their territory will be the first to face this danger. So the idea of her learning how to fight, with the mindset of someone who survived in an apocalypse, made him agree without complaints.
Raon Miru
Tumblr media
Fast forward and he gained the trust of three children who are harmed by a tribe and a cruel noble. He pities them but also understands their pain at the same time, especially after everything he went through. He knows coddling them would not make things better since they already know how harsh the world is.
Raon is a baby dragon but he's stronger than all of the people in his group, except Eruhaben. He's a kid who easily talks about destroying the world if Cale doesn't wake up after fainting. He's a kid who wants revenge against Venion and he never let go of that anger even when he was freed by Cale and his group. He knows he's stronger than Cale and does not want to leave this "weak" human despite the strong enemies they face.
But Cale, even with this thought of "putting him to use" at first, told him to hide himself in all battles and when around strangers.
Even though he knows Raon can fight, it's obvious the little dragon will face potential problems if everyone knows there's a dragon in the group. Arm would do everything to get Raon and bring him to DHB, the nobles would probably become greedy, a lot of people will rely on him for things he shouldn't even need to do, and Raon will never be truly free from all the expectations placed on him.
He could leave Raon with Elves and Eruhaben but considering what Arm did to the elves, Eruhaben's lair, and Olienne, there are no safe places to leave him.
Cale gave him the freedom of choice. He can live freely as a dragon without trusting a human. He was fully confident that Raon will not follow him. But he did. So Raon is his responsibility now.
I made a post about liking both Cale and Reigen Arataka and I can honestly see their similarities in this part. They know the kid with them is stronger than them but they also know that fully placing all the responsibilities and expectations on this kid will ruin them.
He, like Reigen, tells his kids that it's okay to run when facing a strong opponent. That it's okay to rely and let the adults handle the hard part of the battle. He respects and relies on them when necessary and pulls them back when they face real danger.
When the White Star first appeared, Cale's first instinct was to hide Raon in his arms and to defend themselves from the man. He was also prepared to fight until Eruhaben appeared. No matter how much Raon wanted to fight, Cale kept hiding him and was genuinely scared for the dragon.
So yes, he cares for the kids in his own way but doesn't treat them in a patronizing manner.
On and Hong
Tumblr media
Like I've mentioned in my other post, On and Hong also did not have a great childhood. They were chased from their tribe who wanted to kill them because they're "useless" and mutants.
They did not trust anyone until they met Cale who says one thing and does the opposite. They placed their trust on Cale who may appear indifferent and cold but seems to care for them by giving them bread, medicine, and meat without having expectations from them.
Some readers might find it distasteful but it's obvious that they want to be useful, no matter how small their contribution is to the fight. I think the term "useful" makes it cruel but for them, it's something to be proud of. When he first uses this term, it's when they were saving Raon. But his next instinct was to check if they're okay after infiltrating the cave.
Is it bad to let these kids fight after they escaped death? Yes and no.
They should be safe, away from harm or danger. That's normal to think about children and I agree they need safety like normal children. But once again, these kids aren't human and they are in a different world from us. They grew up in a tribe that expects them to be strong so in every opportunity, they look for ways to be strong.
That's not exactly a normal kid's way of thinking.
And again, Cale's initial indifference to everything around him is the extension of what his former life did to his psyche. He's not a normal person either. None of these characters are normal. Oddly enough, the most normal are Litana and Valentino.
And in all honesty, knowing how he thinks and respects someone's needs and wants, if they want to stay away from danger or stop fighting, there is no doubt he would accept their wishes and let them hide somewhere far away from Arm. But like Raon, they want to fight back against the tribe who wants them dead. In a sense, they also want revenge and to prove everyone that they've become strong.
Lock and the Wolf children
Tumblr media
Lock is still a young boy, no matter how much he shoulders after the death of his tribe. I still see him as a kid like Basen.
When Lock was having troubles during the war, Cale did not scold him. Instead, he encouraged him to eat since he noticed how Lock hasn't been eating since he first learned he can't use his berserk form. He told him that he did not need to fight. His only role was to stand and protect Raon. Simple but it made Lock feel relieved and happy that Cale didn't get angry at him for being weak.
I see it as Cale just wanting him to step back and get stronger, to rely on the rest of the adults and to not worry about regressing. I can only imagine what Kim Rok Soo went through to be so wise about this kind of situation.
This part is one of the most memorable to me because of what happens at the end of the battle,
'I am the adult.
I am the guardian of these two children.
I need to take full responsibility since I chose to take them in.
I need the Super Rock's power.'
Cale, despite all his inner complaints and initial reluctance about how he's suddenly involved in a group of children's safety and protection, finally admitted how important it is that he takes full responsibility of those he took in. And the way he does it is by "sacrificing" himself.
When Lock finally overcome his fear and was about to protect Cale, Cale got annoyed and said,
"Children grow up so fast" with a pat on Lock's head.
He sounded like a father or an uncle who was proud of Lock for overcoming his obstacles. This one scene among multitudes of others made me recognize how much he cares for these children. It's happening mid-battle but it doesn't detracts the emotional value but only increases it. It was another reason why I find Cale Henituse so interesting and mesmerizing.
Conclusion
Cale Henituse, for all his self-hatred and low self-esteem, does not bring down a child or person's confidence. He gives them the choice to become strong and protects them when they're weak.
He does not force them to do anything they can't or don't want to do. He knows what he went through as Kim Rok Soo is bad and he doesn't want them to go through the same thing.
Reading between the lines made me see that there's something deeper than what Cale shows.
___
I'm not gonna lie, I sound like Clopeh at some parts whenever I write like this. I felt the same when I was writing about the female characters lmao
I'm sorry if this is so long 😅 I became too passionate about this topic. I understand the people who are worried about the kids but this is still my opinion about it.

Reactions to Young Master Shield's Chapter 206
TL;DR - Cale wants to back out from the speech, but can't because his family is excited about it. Cale recalls KRS's speech curse. Lock having low confidence and self-doubts. Cale wants to give Lock, On, and his siblings career counselling. Violan and Deruth turn the tables on Cale.
Cale's Reluctance This chapter had a lot of funny and touching moments. Cale wanted to avoid giving a speech, but accepted it after hearing that his family was very excited about it. Of course, he was mentally cursing Alberu all the time. 😂
Cale felt guilty that he received unconditional affection from his family, yet he did not spend much time with them. So he agreed to at least do the speech to make them happy. He knew that he was a bad son and older brother, so he wanted to make it up for them.
And then we learn some of his past as KRS. It seemed like he was under a curse of some sort in relation to speeches. KRS had a lot of speech and lecture offers, but he only agreed to them when his team's budget was increased.
However, despite the numerous speeches he accepted, none of it went through because something always happened. Like monsters attacking near the venue, or terrorist attacks happening nearby, so the venue had to be evacuated.
That was why this was really Cale's first speech. Cale had wondered if this 'speech curse' would also happen in Roan, but dismissed it because terrorists wouldn't dare attack the powerful Roan Kingdom, and monsters were gone.
Lock's Self-Doubt We get Lock's perspective today. I guess the author has begun laying down the foundation for the upcoming Lock-centric arc. Anyway, Cale had invited Lock to go with them to Aipotu, and he accepted it because he wanted to help too.
But Lock was doubting if he was even going to be helpful in Aipotu. Even Eruhaben noticed his low confidence. Cale seemed to be aware of it too.
Career Counselling When Cale arrived at the mansion, he told Lock and On that he wanted to give them some career counselling. And after he gave gifts to his younger siblings, Cale also told Basen and Lily that they also need to talk for career counselling.
But Cale's parents turn the tables on him. Violan praised Cale's idea of career counselling for the four, but said that it was Cale who needed career counselling from his parents. 😂
And then she whispered that Alberu told them about how Cale almost died because of his head nearly exploding. So Violan corrected herself, saying that Cale needed LIFE counselling and not just CAREER counselling. 🤣🤣🤣
What was funnier was Deruth's reaction. Deruth was teary-eyed and stuttering, saying stuff like "Cale, I understand your cause. But, as a father, I'm worried-" And Cale could only listen to everything, with his head down and his hands neatly placed on his knees as he thought that this was scarier than the Aipotu dragons... 🤣🤣🤣
Ending Remarks It seems like we'll get Cale's life counselling first before the speech. As for Cale's talk with the Molans, there was a mention of it today, but Cale postponed it again. And Hans. Yes, Hans finally appeared after so long, but Cale forgot about who he was for a moment... 😭 Yes, Cale. You need to spend some time with your family given that you even briefly forgot about Hans.
That part about KRS though. It's like a flag. Does that mean something will happen at Cale's speech at the academy?

Just randomly remember threads I read on Twitter long time ago, so my memories are vague at best
It's a combination of more than two threads
The idea is, twin krs and cale used to be so close but since the arrival of violan and basen, they become distant
Different from cale who choose to be the 'bad', roksu actually try to be close with his new family members
Cale and roksu share bed, but since then cale told him that he doesn't want to again
Roksu comply because he can't really reject cale even though it's make him sad
Cale can only watch from afar how his twin play with basen with their parents watching
Making a perfect picture of family without him
He miss his twin dearly but he know that it's his own fault and consequence of his choice
Cale went to sleep, ignoring the aches of his heart
The next morning, hans found cale laying in the middle of blood soaked bed with dagger still stabbed in his heart
The dagger has arm symbol but no one know that beside the molans
Let's say that ws mistake cale for roksu, someone in the 'oracle' who is said will end him
Hans immediately check whether cale still alive while shouting for someone to come
A maid stood frozen for too long hans has to slap her and tell her to get the count
She frantically run toward the dinning room and inform everyone
She only manage to says, "young master cale.. blood.." before roksu bolt toward his twin room
His eyes shaking and his breath ragged but he keep running
When he arrived, he feel like the world stop and his world started to crumble
Hans, despite crying, try to get rid of the bloody sheet while calling cale
Roksu stumble toward his twin, calling him deperately
But it's too late
Cale is gone
Roksu, drown in guilt and sorrow, refuse to burried his twin
Treat him as if he still alive
Keep him locked in a room far from everyone, deep inside the mansion
He keep cale's body 'healthy' with magic
He is trully spiralling into insanity, obssessing over his twin body and refusing to believe that he is dead
He will dress cale up, doing his hair, cuddle with him, and tell him stories or his daily life
He forbid anyone to enter the chamber he keep cale
The only one allowed to enter beside him is only hans and the molans, he even forbid his family
His irrational mind blame them, blame his father who neglect them, blame violan and basen for coming here, but mostly blame himself for leaving his twin alone
He also become obssesses with arm, wanting to razzed them to the ground, leaving no one acquainted with them alive
The events still happen like lcf but with darker and more insane and crueler roksu
He show no mercy toward his enemies
His people both respect and fear him
Once, the kids accidently enter cale's chamber and that's the first time roksu look at them with wild and harsh eyes and spoke to them coldly
He ignore them for a week, locking himself inside with his twin
And that's when his people found out about the event from the past through the molans
Rosalyne once try to talk roksu out of his madness but almost got killed in his rage if not for choi han stopping roksu
It wasn't something that could be touched anymore because it was already rooted in roksu's heart, mind and soul
From then on, no one ever bring it up again
Hmmm.. some ideas how I want to continue this
First,
Roksu find a way to wake cale up
Make him more of an empty vessel, a soulless puppet than anything
But roksu doesn't care, at least cale is awake and moving
Roksu stick close to him
Hugging him on his laps while he caressing his hair lovingly
Sleeping on cale's lap while he comb his hair gently with his fingers
Cale face eerily blank, his eyes like those of glass, he never talk and only react to roksu
Second
A cale from another worldline, where he still very much alive, accidently got transported into this fuck up worldline
He doesn't know that he is in a completely different world and think he still inside his world
Walk back to henituse teritory, ignoring the weird and shocked gaze from thw citizen because he think it's must be because he is a trash anyway
When he arrived, he weird out with how everyone acting and he kinda feels scared seeing his twin gaze him intently with those dark eyes
When Eruhaben want to tell him that he is in different world, after they 'interrogated' him, roksu immediately take cale with him
With his glibe tongue, he convinced cale that everyone just being weird and he doesn't need to worried about anything
Send a silent warning to everyone that no one will not tell this cale the truth or else
A week passed by and it's the first time (after a long time for the henituse and staffs) they see roksu to look actually geniunely happy
It's a twisted situation but they can't do anything it might trigger roksu
He never leave cale's side, when cale complaint he manipulate his way and guilt trip cale to let him
Then roksu from cale original worldline also sent there after he threatening GoD
GoD warning him about this world other him, roksu doesn't think much thinking that they're not that different
Oh boy, he is so surprised when he witness it with his eyes
His possessive side (he always possessive over his people, especially his twin) can't acccept it
[Or for more darker situation, this cale's roksu is also equally obssesses and possessive toward him]
[And for darker result, this cale is killed by roksu because he can't accept that there is him who still get to have his twin alive while he can't. If he can't have his twin beside him, then no other him should]
Third
Roksu transported to tboah world when cale just started his trash endeavor
Manipulate his way to be accepted into the family through cale
He is the image of a perfect, loving, and caring brother toward cale
Everyone like him
But the henituse feels something off with him, but they just brush it off because as fast as it come, it's gone when roksu smile at them
The molans know something is not right with their young master's twin brother from another world
With the way he stick close to cale, subtly monitor him and 'move' him as he want
But they can't do much more than keep watching and make sure that their your master is safe
Roksu slowly isolate cale from anyone, make him believe that no one truly there for him but him
He orchestrated that cale will getting beat up by choi han, but not to severe, and manipulate the molans to leave with choi han
He then twisted the story and sealed cale fate with him
The GoD actually bothering roksu to get back to his world but he refuse
GoD even use his real twin as a bait but he still refuse, he know that the molans and hans from his world will take care of his cale, they know better than neglect him
Maybe he can keep both cales
Always thinking about some reaction verse
Earth 1, st, lcf, and this alter tboah react
Of course the first three world confuse and shocked at first but not think much
The cales and roksoos can't get rid of wrongness from roksu but just brush it off
Alter tboah getting unsummoned and the other three react to roksu...
Alternate
Roksu let cale get burried
But he started to hallucinate that cale still alive and here
He doesn't tell anyone because he doesn't want to share
It's worsen as time goes by
....what if the hallucination is not actually hallucination

Cale Henituse | Kim Rok Soo x Transported!Reader
John meets the entity that have been asking for you, but with a cost.
content warning: violent stabbing, blood, choking on blood.
Tumblr media
Deruth and Violan along with their kids stood in front of the mansion to greet their eldest child when they heard of him returning with the bodies of the victims. Violan let out a small gasp, hand covering her mouth when Cale got off his carriage, holding a soaking wet coat that she recognized all too well. After all, it was her that gifted you the coat, welcoming you as a part of the Henituse county back then.
Cale approached his parents, holding the heavy coat and the hat that still has strands of your hair in it. Basen recognized the coat and hat, having had you wear them whenever you went out with him to have him learn under your wing to handle negotiations outside the duchy.
"We could only find fifteen out of the seventeen victims," Cale reported, looking over to his father who looked defeated. "We couldn't find Captain John and [Name]."
All of their eyes drifted to the coat in his arms and Cale looked down as well. He looked up at his mother, the corner of her lips pulled down and eyes slightly glossy. "It's... all we could find of her out there."
"Oh, Cale," murmured Violan, placing a hand on her child's shoulder. "I'm so sorry."
Deruth feels ashamed of himself when he looks at his son. He glimmered with joy when Cale was born and looked so much like his mother instead of him and it destroys him when Jour died and left a son that will always remind Deruth of her because they looked so much alike. He couldn't face Cale back then and crumbled underneath his grief. Cale had just lost you after years of knowing and loving each other, having each other's backs knowing you both can always rely on one another.
Cale still stood with his head held high, holding the last part of you that the world had given him the mercy of having. He gets up and does what needs to be done, all by himself and doesn't rely on anyone else to take care of anything.
It's so out of place to see his son now, standing by himself with you nowhere to be seen.
"Why don't you and the kids go and--"
"It's fine," Cale cuts off. "I'll help with the funeral."
Deruth is a little happy that Cale was born and inherited Jour's good traits and none of his bad ones.
Deruth, Cale, Ron, and Hans took care of the funerals for the found victims first, handling the budget and also giving their families some money as comfort although they all know money could never replace a life. Ron found himself distraught at how familiar Cale was with sorting these things, working on them seamlessly, and even helping out Hans to deliver the news to the family as gently as possible, his words coming out almost robotic. A lot of money was taken out to pay compensation for the things lost at the sea though Deruth didn't look too fazed by the numbers Ron wrote after estimating the damages.
Cale did all of this while still going back to the sea with the search squad, hoping to find some hint of you. Rosalyn and Lock finally had the composure to join in, managing to find some of the things that had escaped your suitcase to bring back, a sense of closure overwhelming them all to know they get to keep something you once had. The kids came with him on the last day and resulted in nothing but despair that they had to return home without you, knowing that they have to return home and set up an empty grave for you.
Thankfully, some of your items in your room in the villa were still there, allowing the others to remind themselves of your presence whenever they wished to.
The one to frequent your room was Cale, staying for hours just sitting on your bed and not talking. The kids will accompany him, but most of the time, they see that he needed some time alone and process everything, so the most they'd do is peek at him from your doorway. Then there was Rosalyn, remembering the conversations you would have together in the room and your laughter and then there was Ron, who would come into your room to clean up although there was nothing much to do.
Perhaps thanks to that were the reason why no one shed any tears during your funeral. Everyone had already made peace with your death, especially Cale. The one to give out speeches were Deruth and a formal apology was delivered by Kore, the right hand of the captain for being negligent towards the weather, though it was obvious no one blamed her. Rosalyn stood next to Cale, seeing the man kept his gaze on your name engraved on a stone, face unchanging throughout the whole funeral.
"There was blood in her coat," Cale murmured to Rosalyn, eyes still at the shallow carve of your name on the stone. "She must have been the one to bleed to death."
Rosalyn's heart ached painfully and all she could do was let out a shaky sigh, recalling how Cale informed her how on the first day, a small area of the water was murky with blood but none of the bodies had any open wounds.
"At least she is no longer in pain," Alver says, standing by the other side of Cale, trying his best to ease the unsettling feeling of dread that sits within their chests upon knowing you did not go peacefully.
Cale did not respond. A painful death was something he always wanted to avoid, hence all this trouble he took to make sure nothing could hurt him and his people, to eradicate all the danger the world could pose to them, but he had failed to remember that no matter how many ancient powers settled inside his flesh and bones, no matter the number of powerful allies he had made, and the many sacrifices he had done, death is inevitable and will always be painful.
The funeral comes to an end at some point – is it bad that he had stopped tuning into the whole ceremony? – and he realized that he must have been standing at the same place like a fool, staring at the carving of your name and holding onto the flowers he had bought on his way to the funeral.
He remembers that you don't have a favorite flower so he relied entirely on the florist to arrange a bouquet based on his request; "I am going to the funeral of a loved one."
The florist was of the Henituse duchy so with a solemn smile, they nodded and began picking out flowers and arranging them together. Cale did not miss how the florist is dressed in black, mourning over the many loss the duchy suffered.
"What kind of person are they? Miss [Name], I mean."
"Loved."
You were loved, not only by him but also by so many people that he silently hoped it was enough to make up for the fact that you didn't receive enough love from your past life. He hoped he have made you feel loved.
"Human?" Raon's timid voice calls for him, pulling him back into reality. He feels the tug on his trousers and remembered he was still standing in front of where you are supposed to be resting — it is empty, you are not there, and he will never find the comfort of having you here — and the kids were still by his side, waiting for him.
Everyone else must have left after seeing he made no move to leave himself. He's grateful that for once, people are feeling pity toward him. The world knows he needs some time alone.
Cale sees the abundance of flowers and trinkets left behind on your and Captain John's headstones. There were many more of those on both of your headstones, perhaps because both of them were empty graves and only serves as memorials.
Cale got down on one knee, plucking one singular bellflower from the bouquet and then handing the bouquet to the kids. "Do me a favor and gift them to the other graves? We don't want the others to feel left out now, do we?"
The kids glanced at each other for a moment before they turned to look at him, nodding silently. Knowing Cale will need time, they head for the grave furthest away from yours, walking in threes as they decided that it would be better to be with each other instead of separating for now.
Cale turned to you, twirling the bellflower in between his fingertips. "It's a shame you left before we could sort out whatever it was between the two of us."
Cale sat down on the damp grass and ran a finger through the carving of your name, feeling every ridge of the stone as he spells out your name, knowing that if he called out for you now, he could no longer hear your voice, but it doesn't stop him from starting a conversation.
"Tell me, [Name]." Just a murmur of your name was enough to send a stinging pain into his chest. "Had I been more forward about my feelings to you, would it have made you stay?"
"Cale, don't do this again," pleaded the Super Rock. "Stop torturing yourself like this."
"I wanted to be with you," Cale continued. "And I think that's where I ruined things for us — for you."
Kim Rok Soo and Cale Henituse had many things in common – one of them is the fact that the world will always take whoever they loved, and another was that despite that fact, they have never once regretted loving that person.
"I'm sorry," he managed to whisper, placing the bellflower he had been twirling all this time on the smooth top surface of your headstone.
"I... love you."
The words come out flat, forced as if he couldn't bear to say them. The confession feels useless now that the object of his affection has died and he is speaking to an empty grave.
A dark talon appeared and carefully placed a white asphodel next to Cale's bellflower. The redhead looked up to see his kids, the three of them with solemn expressions as they stare at the headstone of their late friend. They have finished distributing the flowers to each grave as he asked them to, leaving the last flower for you.
"Good job," Cale praised them with a small smile.
Raon settled on Cale's lap while the two children sat on either side of him, staring at your headstone with flushed faces and red-rimmed eyes.
"She's going to be all fine, wherever she is now," Cale reassured them, rubbing circles on Hong's back.
"Where is she now?" Ohn asked quietly, leaning towards Cale's side and gripping his coat. She feels like a child and she could not handle the thought of not being one, to shoulder the grief alone and be strong like the man currently being her pillar.
"Somewhere peaceful," Cale answers. He doesn't believe in the concept of Heaven and Hell and he's not going to start now. "Somewhere we can't follow."
"I hope she's happy there."
Cale hums. "She's probably nagging at us right now for sitting on the grass with our good suits on."
The flowers lay limp on the cold surface of your headstone, slowly withering as each hour pass by with the four of them chatting together in front of your grave.
Weeks passed after the funeral. It takes time for everyone to adjust to the absence of you in the duchy but they got around it in no time and went back to work.
Cale had begun to stay over at the Super Rock Villa instead of the Duke's estate a few days after the funeral, taking the kids along as they began to properly process their loss. Your death had affected their sleep, with the worst case being Ohn's constant midnight breakdowns whenever she had to face the fact that you are no longer alive.
It made sleeping difficult for Hong and Raon, so Cale had to set up a routine for Ohn and himself to walk around the villa and sit down in the drawing room to let Ohn talk about her feelings. She'll talk about you and her regret of not stopping you that night until she's tired and Cale would pick her up and tuck her in so she could have a comfortable night's sleep.
As for Cale himself...
"Cale-nim?"
Rosalyn pushed open the door of your bedroom, seeing Cale sitting on the chair of the small table you and Rosalyn would occupy to have tea and snacks. It is no longer a surprise for everyone in the villa to find Cale inside your room at odd times. He would sit inside with a candle lit on the table, casually reading your letters and other writings over and over again.
"Miss Rosalyn," Cale greeted, briefly lifting his gaze to look at the red-haired mage. "We meet again."
The two of them had been developing a bad habit of visiting your room whenever they were having trouble sleeping, though Rosalyn would say Cale's case was much worse than hers seeing as whenever Rosalyn would make a small visit to your room, she would always smell the scent of wax and smoke from the candle Cale always brings with him.
"We should start meeting like normal people," Cale continued, returning to your writings. "During daytime with proper lighting."
"Then it's best for you to head to your chambers, Cale-nim," Rosalyn says, eying how short the candle Cale has and how the wax that surrounds it has lumped into quite the size. He had been in here for a while.
"I suppose you're right." Without putting up a fight, Cale gathers the papers and lifts the candle holder, storing your letters back into your drawers. This only strengthen Rosalyn's suspicions that he had been here for a long time.
"Have a good night's rest, Miss Rosalyn," he murmured when he passed by her, not making a comment about the dark circles under her eyes and the way her face had sunken, no doubt the effects of grief.
The others find the time to visit and bask in what little trace you have to help them move on properly, but no one could defeat Cale's constant longing to be surrounded by you. He was the most frequent visitor of your room, going through your belongings simply to make sure they are still there — many worry it was becoming an obsession more than helping him heal.
Cage hears the click of your door for the first time today and pursed her lips into a thin line, sharing a look with the Sun Twins. Jack glanced up at the stairways, worry spread across his kind face while Hannah leans back to the couch, hands folded in front of her chest. They couldn't do much but let the man grieve, afraid of offending him if they were to try and have him stop visiting your room.
"Miss Cage."
Cage turned to look at the old butler, slightly surprised to see the man there. He fished out a sealed letter from the inside pocket of his vest, the wax that seals the letter bearing no insignia, but the handwriting that spells out Cage's name was enough for them all to know who was the sender.
"Miss [Name] instructed me to give this to you once things have settled down," he said while brushing down his vest.
He initially wanted to deliver the letter after everyone had finally made peace with your death but by the looks and habits they've all been developing, Ron recognizes that it would be too long. He decided now that everyone was no longer in hysterics and was processing everything in their ways, it would be better to finally do your last wishes instead of holding onto them.
"What?" Cage asked, slightly spooked. "Did she know she was going to–"
"No," Ron answers, his voice slightly hoarse as he remembers your resolution to leave that night. "It would be better for you to read the letter she had left first before coming to me for anything you'd like to ask."
"Cage," Hannah calls, moving from the couch to sit beside Cage, Jack following along. "Open it"
Cage stare at your handwriting, her gut swirling with a feeling that made her want to throw up. She opens the letter and took out the paper inside, her heart immediately wrecking at seeing your handwriting. She wonders if this was what Cale feels whenever he reread your writings and if it was some sort of self-torture he does.
Cage focuses back to read your letter out loud for everyone in the room.
In the letter, you confessed to feeling out of place and having no purpose after the war. You told her of the voices you had started to have in your head, urging you to leave them all and promising to lead you where you can find your purpose. Every time the voice speaks to you, you experienced heavy headaches and sometimes it was to the point of nosebleeds and nearly passing out.
"You might find me ridiculous for following a voice inside my head," Cage cited your letter. "But they sounded very familiar, like someone from my past life, and that frightens me. I suspect it is some type of God. Was it like this for you whenever you speak with the God of Death? It is very painful."
"During the day of the picnic, the voice told me to sail furthest away from the continent to find him. I find him, I find myself."
Tumblr media
The extremely salty taste that lingers in his mouth and throat was the thing that greeted him when he was finally conscious. He opens his eyes and finally acknowledged that he was suffocating, chest filled with something that made him want to gag and throw up, so he did.
He coughs and forced himself to throw up whatever it was that was suffocating him and water spurts out of his throat and mouth in large quantities to the point he had to roll over and coughed them onto the sand to prevent himself from swallowing more water.
John dug his fingers into the warm sand and let himself cough out water until the weight on his chest lessen and he was no longer suffocating. Finally feeling better, he drops his back again to the sand and looks up at the bright sky. He stared at the floating clouds and the clear sky, needing a few seconds to process the fact that the pain in his throat and the sting of wounds around his body was enough proof that he hasn't died yet and this was not the afterlife.
He sat up, looking around the place he was in, figuring he must have washed up here, but for the love of Gods could not remember that an island existed close enough near the waters where the ship sunk.
John saw that the place he had washed up in did not have a beach that immediately connects to the sea, instead, the corners of the island had boulders and trees that curled up like a shallow bowl, sheltering him inside the island.
'How did I end up here?' John thought with a frown, looking around to see if there was a beach he could have missed but found more boulders and trees. In fact, the place seemed so green. There are trees, flowers, and moss growing nearly everywhere and John had half the mind to assume this must be an undiscovered island, seeing as everything was overtaken by nature.
Only then did he notice the sand that was beside him was slightly dyed red and it seemed something or someone had been dragged around until they got out of the sand deeper into the island, leaving a small trail of blood behind them.
John looks around the place once more before he followed the trail, his instinct screaming at him to go back and stay, but he continued walking. As he walks, the trees and hanging vines felt like they were beginning to close on him and he hurried his steps, walking until he came across an entrance of a ruin, the moss and vines that grows on the cobblestones ruining the structure. There are a few hanging vines that block the entrance like a small curtain.
John could see from the outside that the structure in front of him resembled a great hall of some sort, some of the roof destroyed and falling into it, sunlight striking the inside of the ancient hall to show John that the inside had a stone altar and a bundle of vines on top of it.
A hand slipped from the bundle of vines and John's eyes widened, now realizing that it was a body that was being dragged by the vines, half of its body hanging by the altar as they were being pulled to be placed on top of it.
A pale, familiar face and the [h/l] [h/c] hair was enough for John to rush inside.
"[Name]—!"
John rushed to your side, cupping your face with one hand and feeling the coldness of your skin, a grim reminder that you were simply just a corpse. He dug into the sheath strapped to his thighs and took out a knife. He cut away the vines surrounding you, not knowing what they were planning for you but he was determined to not have them desecrate your body.
It seemed with each vine cut, two more would grow and just as he was wondering what type of creature this was, he felt an excruciating pain in his back and chest. He gasped, clawing at the vine that had impaled him from the back, finding it ridiculously hard like steel. Blood spewed out from the corner of his mouth when thorns grew from the vine, doubling his agony.
"I knew you'd come."
The voice appears again in John's head and he realized in horror that they were brought here by the bastard.
"Y-you..." John tried to formulate his words but he dropped to his knees, tearing himself apart as the thorns damaged his stab further.
"You wouldn't bring her to me, so I had to do it myself," the voice continued, venom in its tone.
John collapsed on the ground, one hand holding onto your arm. He leaned to the altar and began to feel himself choke on his blood. "N-no, [Name]—"
"Rest easy, my friend."
John looked up to the destroyed roof of the ancient building, the sun blinding him and he could only think of how sorry he was to know Kore, his right-hand woman would not find his body and your own family's sadness to not find yours as well.
John's vision which had been blinded temporarily by the sunlight suddenly recovered and he realized that it was because something had blocked the sun. The vines have merged into forming a human-like silhouette that wore a hood, made entirely of thorned vines and flowers scattered here and there, its size similar to second-story inns.
"I've waited for so long." John could have sworn the voice speaks with so much more emotion this time as if they were holding back from saying too much.
The humanoid creature leaned down, a few tendrils of vine shooting out to your body.
"My daughter has returned to me."

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Ep 16
Fishy. Maomao is now asked to solve the mystery of a will, couched in vague phrases like "It would be great if (my sons) could all have tea together, like in the old days." It seems the father would like his sons to get along better, but they have other ideas. Jinshi is not at all amused at the task, but Maomao is too curious to pass up the opportunity.
This time, like last time, Maomao is accompanied by Basen, as serious as ever.
Upon arrival, Maomao notices that this blacksmith's house shows how peculiar his life was: he collected unusual rocks and had buildings in strange places for a house. Inside one of these buildings, he meets the blacksmith's sons, brothers who have been left certain objects as an inheritance. They are not happy: the older brother has been left the building, the middle one a cupboard anchored to the building, and the younger one a…. fishbowl? There is also a key that does not fit any of the cabinet's locks…
The brothers are understandably frustrated. As Maomao thinks some more about the sentence in the will, their mother brings them tea, and Maomao notices how the sun's rays pass through the window.
And she realizes it. Basen reminds her of Gaoshun!
Tumblr media
But that's not important right now. The position of the cabinet, the fact that it is anchored to the room, the discoloration of the table, and…. the fishbowl? Put in a certain way, it's possible that-
Maomao decides to test her theory. She has the fish tank filled with water, puts it in the place where the table is discolored, and waits for the sun's rays to pass through.
Tumblr media
With that she gets one of the locks to heat up, and when the middle brother tries to use the key, it worked.
Basically, the lock was filled with a metallic material. When heated, the material melted, releasing the lock and filling a mold, opening the drawer… and finding a mold of another key which in turn opens the other drawers, revealing other materials of no apparent value, at least to two of the brothers. However, the third brother realizes that these objects, these pieces of metal and stone can be mixed to form a compound that would allow him to work with welding more easily.
And so the mystery is solved. I liked how it shows that the father appreciated each of his children in his own way, extolling the qualities of each one.
Back in Jinshi's office, Lakan mentions how the third brother has taken advantage of what his father left him, and how his inheritance has allowed him to continue the work his father did, such as crafting ceremonial equipment used in the palace. To end the past conversation about how to diminish the value of a courtesan, Lakan recommends that Jinshi better go and ask someone who has been in that world. Someone… like Maomao.
The episode ends with something unusual... How much does Maomao know about makeup? and the possibility that she would do Jinshi's makeup...

Let's talk about this
I hate it when people think that it's going to be alright when the Henituse family finds out the truth about Kim Rok soo. Like wtf so you really think that deruth would go like this when he finds out the truth about the transmigration. Oh no my son is gone but it's alright cuz the person who is possessing his body is a good man :) like bruh he will wreck havoc. He will try everything in his power to bring Cale back no matter who is it in his body. If anything he will restrain his movements. He might not have been a good father to og Cale but that doesn't means he is going to completing ignore the existence of his son ??? I have read fics were people just be like this Deruth finds out about KRS Also Deruth - ik i just lost my son but so what the man in there is a son to me too.
?????
Bruh Og Cale has been with Deruth since he was born. That's 18 years. And KRS 3 years . Who is the real son??. They do the same for Ron, basen and Lily. It's so unrealistic and tics me off.
It's as if the tcf fandom is scared that their might be people who might hate KRS.
No one hates KRS for anything he has done . But it's extremely natural for them to be furious that their eldest's body is being posessed by some random person. Of course that doesn't mean that KRS has done something wrong. It wasn't his choice to begin with. Rosalyn, Choi Han , Alberu , Lock. These are people who didn't know about OG Cale so it doesn't matters to them. But Ron , Beacrox, Deruth and his Family knew Og Cale.
It's very obvious, that if ever they find out the truth it's gonna mean trouble for KRS.

Cale Anti-Hero
It wasn’t often that Cale found himself alone. There was always ‘something’ happening so it was totally reasonable that he wanted to take advantage of his new found free time. They had settled on singing; it had use to be Cales favorite pass time with his mother, he had not sang in years and for Kim it had been even longer. ….. they really should had been more careful.
I have this thing where I get older but just never wiser
Ron stopped short of the mansions entryway, Hans and the kids rushing in only to quite. They had all planned to come home earlier today. Had no one told Cale?
Ron huffed, what was this puppy saying? Cale had matured so fast in such a short time, too fast even.
Midnights become my afternoons
Raon chuckled it was just like his human to sleep the whole day away if he could! Good thing Lemon gramps was here to wake him up!
When my depression works the graveyard shift
The wolf children stopped smiling turning to look at Lock, “What does that mean!”, “What’s wrong?”, “Hyung Lock haven’t you been taking care of him!”. Lock stilled beside Beacrox, no no this couldn’t be happening how could their savior, the man who took them in be so unhappy?
All of the people I've ghosted stand there in the room
What did that mean, Cale had never killed anyone if anyone was to be haunted by ghost it should be me though Choi Han. Listening in from a different room in the house, having taken an entrance through the window instead of the door like a reasonable man.
I should not be left to my own devices
Alberu seconded that! Cale never does know when to leave shit alone. He’s been surprised to have gotten a call from Cales children only to be welcomed with the sound of beautiful singing. But Alberus’ stomach began to twist he had a bad feeling just where this was going.
They come with prices and vices
I end up in crises
Rosalyn started next to Alberu ready to teleport at a moments notice! Cheeks puffing in anger, just who on Earth would go to Cale demanding money? And enough to put Cale in crises… maybe this was before from when Cale use to be a trash drunk ? The lyrics did say “vices” after all hhhmmm
Tale as old as time
I wake up screaming from dreaming
The dragon and cats looked at each other in confusion, Cale loved sleep they definitely would have noticed if he had nightmares!
Ron closed his eyes and sighed, oh those nightmares after the first Countess had died. Was he the only one that ever knew about those? Not that he was of much help, Cale was nothing like his own son he still didn’t know how to confront or comfort him at all,
One day I'll watch as you're leaving
'Cause you got tired of my scheming
For the last time
Positively Everyone froze, what? Did Cale think that they would all just abandon him?
Deruth began to cry, he didn’t want to see this anymore. Who had decided to share such a thing with them in the first place? It never would had been Cale. That child never aloud himself to be so vulnerable in front of his family. In front of him. What kind of a father had he been?
The Henituse family could here Deruth crying but no one had any words to console him. After all wasn’t this there fault? They had made Cale feel so unloved and unwanted in his own home that he now believed that no one would stay with him if give the chance.
It's me
Hi!
I'm the problem, it's me
Cage was beginning to regret picking up the call from Cale kids right now. Taylor was utterly distraught and admittedly so was she. Cale was a good person! Their very own lucky charm!
At teatime
Everybody agrees
Basen felt ashamed. He remembered getting into verbal tirades with Cale the first few times his trashy behavior had started. He had told him to act better, for the family’s social reputation if nothing else! But just how many of those tea times included demeaning his brother as a part of the entertainment. And then he had just yelled at him and told him to go back to endure more. He was a horrible brother.
I'll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror
Pasetons face flushed a tad, he had considered Cale a bit vain actually. Not that he didn’t have a right to be! But did Cale perhaps not enjoy looking at himself? Did they perhaps have this in common?
It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero
Antihero? But Cale was a hero! Sure he did unsavory things to reach his goals but.. but… did it perhaps bother Cale? He always did say he wanted a slacker life.
Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby
And I'm a monster on the hill
If Violan had been less dignified or more hot tempered she would have thrown her teacup into the wall! Instead she rose from her seat to talk to her husband, no one no matter how noble was going to get away with making Cale feel uncomfortable in his own body! Violan smiled, no doubt Cales new body guard and vice captain Hilsmans knights would agree.
Too big to hang out
Slowly lurching toward your favorite city
On and Hong hissed! Yeah to save it!
Pierced through the heart but never killed
Something in Choi Han broke, Cales voice cracked as if he was crying. He never wanted to hear Cale cry, it hurt so much to not be able to do anything- he’d do anything.
Did you hear my covert narcissism
I might disguise as altruism
Like some kind of congressman
Alberu hummed at that, did Cale hate politics that much? What is this feeling ? Oh right guilt.
Tale as old as time
I wake up screaming from dreaming
One day I'll watch as you're leaving
And life will lose all its meaning
For the last time
It's me
Hi!
I'm the problem, it's me (I'm the problem, it's me)
At teatime
Everybody agrees
I'll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror
It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero
Choi Han decided to join everyone else at the parlor, he couldn’t take this alone anymore.
I have this dream my daughter-in-law kills me for the money
She thinks I left them in the will
On and Hong were outraged! They would never love someone so despicable!
Meanwhile every adult was enraged! They would protect Cale and his little family - was that why Cale loved money?
The family gathers 'round and reads it
And then someone screams out
"He's laughing up at us from hell!"
Cage was bewildered why would Cale ever think he would go there? And didn’t Cale not believe in god?!?!
It's me
Hi!
No one knew what to do after the song ended, everybody in person or on call was as tense as a bow string. There were no words to break the tension.
Cale was beginning to play the piano again, oh dear god now what??!?!

There are some strange rumors about a tall tower in the Forest of Darkness...
Notes:
Here is the backstory for this AU because I spent a stupid amount of time coming up with one.
The White Star isn't a thing here, so Birth of a Hero isn't a thing either. Kim Rok Soo just wakes up in a random guy's body and has no idea what is happening. He learns that this body is apparently the eldest son of a count, which means that he's the heir, right? So he immediately just jumps in and starts doing the paperwork and stuff, because he thinks he has no choice. This all happens a few years before TCF.
While taking a random walk around town, he comes across two starving kittens and takes them back to the estate because 'it would look good if the future count was seen caring about two helpless creatures'.
He also hears from his acquaintances *cough* spies *cough* that Venion Stan was acting weird, and goes to check what was up. He manages to break out a two year old Raon with the help of the cats, Ron, and Beacrox. Raon acts like he did in canon and follows Cale around, and Cale reacts like in canon and adopts him.
One day Deruth brings up changing the heir from Basen back to him, and he goes "Wait what??" and basically just nopes out of the situation upon realizing he can dump all the work on Basen instead. He builds himself a big, strong tower that he can slack around in for the rest of his life, and takes Raon, On, Hong, Ron, and Beacrox with him to live there.
One day, Choi Han stumbles upon the tower (it is canon that CH explored every part of the Forest of Darkness before he found Harris Village, so if there was a tower in the Forest of Darkness, he would have found it first). Cale takes one look at him, dunks him in a bath, feeds him, and declares him to be his bodyguard.
To gain more experience in protecting things, CH becomes the guard for a merchant carriage, which is when he meets Rosalyn (who is on the run like in canon) and Lock (who was told to go get more experience by his uncle. Since Arm isn't a thing, the village wasn't wiped out either) and brings them back with him.
Cale settles down in the tower and just accepts all these new people randomly coming into his life (Alberu included). He starts a small farm to keep his promise to the team leader and Choi Jung Soo.
Eventually, Alberu learns of another dragon named Eruhaben. Raon goes to learn from him for a few months, then drags Goldie Gramps back with him to the tower.

How about a Cale proposing/asking out Reader for marriage/date?? I love your fics and this is just a thought that I often imagine (It's usually people asking him out but this might be a nice change!? I think...)
Tumblr media
Ft: Cale
Tap tap tap tap tap-
It was the soothing rhythmic sound of not getting anything done. Concentration having long since fled the premises as he stared blankly at the notes on the table, watched as the blue nib danced up and down and up and down again.
The notes were important he supposed but his heart wasn’t into it, mind occupied and consistently distracted by a particular receipt on his table.
It’s been several days and he has yet to hear a reply.
He’s not quite sure what to make of it. Certain social rules of this world clashed with his modern-day knowledge of social cues. One would think he’d have an advantage as one who transmigrated into a novel he’d read, but The Birth of a Hero never properly introduced the social decorum of the world in detail.
Perhaps the only reason he made it thus far with his half baked knowledge of etiquette was thanks to Cale’s trashy reputation which, ironically enough, made people more accepting of his faux pas. Alas, if it weren’t for Hans’ persistent nagging that he should handle this important matter ‘the proper way’, he really wouldn’t have bothered. Now he’s stuck between a rock and a hard place. Would it mean anything if he were to send a follow up letter? Or perhaps he should go there himself-
A knock on his door distracted him from his thoughts and he glanced up to see the origin of his headaches, Hans, peek in.
“Young master, you have guests from the _________ household and-“
Cale was out the doors before Hans finished.
⚛》》》》》◆《《《《《⚛
Despite having your back to him it was almost embarrassing how quickly he was able to pick you out amidst the crowd of people.
“__________.” He greeted, snow crunching beneath his boots as he neared your side, he hoped his breathing wasn’t too quick as he’d rushed over as soon as he’d learn of your visit. The burning question rested on the tip of his tongue, the cure-all to his worries as he reached for your hand. “I have been wait-“
“Cale! Just the person I wanted to see!” You turned, smile brightening your features as you pulled him closer, close enough that he could see how the cold had already kissed your cheeks pink.
“Did you receive-“
“Yes, that’s why I’m here!”
A flutter of nerves was set alight in his chest that made him weirdly jittery. How unusual. He’d always been so assured of the results of his plans (and he’s confident in his prediction of your response) yet he couldn’t help but feel flustered. He understood nothing of this world’s customs and Hans did mention a response would’ve usually been sent by letter. Does you coming here in person symbolise something he’s not getting again?
Something was pressed into his hand and his heartrate spiked uncomfortably as he glanced down to receive the scroll you passed to him.
He hesitated, frowning at the brown parchment. Noting the ugly frayed edges and wondering, why couldn’t you have just told him what’s written within since you’ve travelled all the way here anyways.
“Take a look.” you urged him and he sighed.
“Can’t you-“ his words faltered off abruptly as he unfurled the paper to reveal a mess of lines and sketches, his mind blanked as he stared uncomprehending at the contents. “W.. what is this..”
“Isn’t it exciting?” you glanced at the paper, delight and unadulterated joy shone through your eyes. “The designs for the waterways are finally complete! We can finally move onto the next phase, I’ve even gathered the others to discuss this! It shouldn’t take long, we just need to iron out the logistics and-“
He’d tuned out as he stared at prototype on the page, his mind struggled sluggishly to make sense of what’s happening. Cale’s expression remained carefully blank as he lifted his head up to look at you and finally noticed the circle of vassals awkwardly standing around them.
Huh?
⚛》》》》》◆《《《《《⚛
“..implementation of the new waterways will greatly improve the situation in the slums and if we...”
If looks could set things on fire, the conference table would’ve long turned to ashes with how hard Cale’s been glaring. He had rested his two elbows on the oak table, fingers weaved together to create a net that supported his chin. To others, the firstborn son of the Henituse household may seemed to be in a contemplative mood, in truth, Cale had zoned out since the very beginning.
Perhaps there’s been a mistake. Maybe you did not receive it or perhaps he’d missed another social cue. Did he unknowingly commit another taboo?
“…Cale?”
He shouldn’t have listened to Hans’ ridiculous suggestions when he knew he had no patience for the roundabout and overly complex ways people liked to handle things here. He ran a tired hand past his face. Right, next thing he’s going to change in this world would be the removal of all redundant and confusing social constructs. First, he’ll start with the books on courtroom etiquette-
“Cale.”
A hand landing on his shoulder jolted him from his thoughts and he looked up to meet your frustrated gaze. He gaped, caught off guard by your ire.
Your long sigh pricked at his conscience but you interrupted him before he could explain himself. “I sent the others out for a break.” You sat on the edge of the table facing him, although clearly annoyed, there was concern in the slight dip of your brows.
“You’ve been distracted the entire meeting Cale.”
He rubbed the back of his neck, pressing against the tension building there. “Sorry.” He admitted softly.
“Is something on your mind?”
You.
“It’s nothing.” To admit that his thoughts were in shambles all because of an unanswered letter would’ve been far too pathetic. Gods, when have he fallen so low. “I need a drink.” he decided abruptly and would’ve gotten up and escaped, but you knew him too well. With a subtle shift of your weight that looked all too natural, you leaned forward and your two hands rested against his armrests to support yourself in a comfortable lean, effortlessly and efficiently caging him in.
“Cale.” Your tone broke no argument. It was clear he was not going anywhere until he cleared this matter up.
He sighed, slumping against the chair in defeat as he dragged his gaze slowly upwards with the reluctance of a child who’d just been caught with their hands in the cookie jar and was now forced to admit their wrongdoings. He hesitated when he caught a glimmer of something on your shirt.
Somewhere along the meeting, as the room got warmer you must’ve taken off your thinner overcoat, it would’ve explained why he hadn’t noticed such an obvious accessory from the beginning. But now that he had laid eyes on it, Cale can’t seem to look away. His hand reached out cautiously, brushing over delicate work, the building tension within him eased away as he reminiscences at the nostalgic sight.
It had only been several weeks ago when he’d went out to find the best jeweller in the Kingdom to have a specific brooch made. A bright golden shield with the Henituse’s family mascot emblazoned on, two magnificent rubies inlaid as eyes.
With the solid feeling of the brooch under his fingers, his previous worries melted off like sleet to be replaced with an indescribable warmth in his chest.
“It suits you.” he finally says. It really does.
Cale never liked things made in his honor, but something about you wearing his symbol made him feel a lot of things.
Your rumble of laughter made him look up and you brushed a hand through his locks, amusement in your eyes. “Is that it? That’s what’s been bothering you all morning?” you mused.
He snorted and slumped forward, resting his face on your lap. “You wouldn’t reject it.”
“Confident, aren’t we?” you laughed and carded your fingers through his hair.
It was the truth which you both knew. He had never been a stickler for rules. The relationship between you happened as a gradual process, you two clicked and it just eased into your daily routine and became the norm. There was never any need or desire to announce it officially. But as someone who transmigrated into this world, who also decided to continue living in it, he wanted to do it your way. Because in the end, even if it was bothersome, annoying and baffled his 21st century mind, the gesture would mean something to you.
Now that he’s solved the mystery, satisfied he didn’t botch up some weird etiquette, he had time to analyse the day’s events and realised one thing. He lifted his head from your lap, “You orchestrated this. The waterways weren’t that urgent.” he deadpanned, stuck between feeling awe that you took all the effort to tease him and indignation that you’d dare.
“It’s not often one gets the chance to fluster you.” you admitted, not at all feeling guilty when you got the chance to witness his bewilderment first hand.
“Aigoo..” he clicked his tongue and in one swift movement, stood from his seat, forcing you to lean back as his arms landed by your sides, effectively reversing your positions. “You’d bother the vassals for this, how bold.”
You blinked innocently up at him. “I bothered no one actually, they all volunteered to help.”
He frowned. Traitors. The whole lot of them. He could actually hear them cheering outside the room. He’s going to have to tell Basen to talk to them about their loyalties soon. Well. Not that it would matter much. He glanced down at the gleaming brooch on your chest and his lips twitched into a satisfied smile despite himself.
Perhaps there’s a reason behind such silly traditions after all.
Notes: So I combined these two asks because they’re pretty similar and to answer your questions: I believe Cale’s not one for grand gestures and formal things but he’ll occasionally abide by certain traditions if it has special meanings and especially if it’d mean something to you.

I will never forget how like most of the TCF cast never got to have proper childhoods, OG!Cale, Kim Roksoo, Choi Han, Choi Jung-gun, Alberu, Ohn, Hong, Beacrox, etc
Like most of these guys were either
A. Fighting for their lives(Choi Han, CJG, Alberu, Ohn, Hong)
B. Actively on the path to self destruction(OG!Cale)
Or just like having an awful time in general. Like it’s really sad how for a long time, none of them could actually act or be like kids due to the environment they were in.
Alberu being royalty and having to hide things about himself, and probably avoid assassination and kidnapping attempts since he was young.
Kim Roksoo and how he lost his parents at a young age and was abused by his uncle.
Ohn and Hong having to run away because the Cat tribe mistreated them, and they had to survive on their own.
Choi Han being taken away from his family and fighting alone for over a century in the dark forest where he had no one but himself and the monsters that wanted him dead to keep him company.
Choi Jung-gun also being taken away from his family, and losing people who took care of him again, along with like living a thousand years going through who knows what + whatever the hell the god of death made him do.
Beacrox losing his entire family except his father when he was no older than fifteen, and immediately having to live on the run right after.
OG!Cale taking it upon himself to protect his family, and essentially destroying himself because he didn’t know what else to do.
I think about Ohn a lot, like the fact that she was what, nine, maybe ten years old when she had to run away with Hong and make sure they were both okay. The fact that she was protecting him and herself at the same time, the way that she couldn’t ever play around or have fun when she was growing up because she had to make sure they were both okay. She took on as much as she could for Hong because that’s her baby brother and she loves him more than anything.
OG!Cale and Ohn and like, how they both did everything they could for their younger siblings, ohhhhhhh I’m crying I’m crying I’m crying donnttt even look at me rn
Also Hong and Basen, like being the little brother who watches your older sibling take on burdens alone and you want to help but at the same time your your sibling tells you it’s okay and that you should just focus on yourself… When the trope is older sibling(or family figure in general) taking care of younger siblings and they make sacrifices for them, I’m not crying, what do u mean? I actually do not care. At all. Not . One. Bit.
ALSO LOCKKK , TBoaH Lock they could never make me hate you I don’t care if you were annoying, whiney and a coward, if I was you I would be annoying, whiney and a coward too… he’s just thirteen and he lost all his family, obviously he was too scared to go out of hiding, ANYONE would be scared, he was just a young boy and he lost everything. He found people who cared for him, but he lost the person who resembled his uncle and that’s really when his world fell apart. It must have felt like the whole world was against him, that Lock could never have any family ever again.
Like I can imagine he’d probably have this underlaying fear when it came to Choi Han and Rosalyn,
“what if I lose them too?”
Maybe he hated himself for being a coward, for hiding, for not doing anything… maybe he hated himself even more because when he lost Pendrick, he wasn’t even sure if he’d be able to stop cowering and hide when there’s danger. The battle between wanting to be cared for and protected because the world is just too much and wanting to fight back and help because he doesn’t want to lose anyone else
This just makes me think about TBoaH timeline more oh it’s so tragic and sickening I cried

Greatly inspired by the many isekai manhwa i have read and is still on the reading list
This is pretty much a self-indulgent fic.
Man, i want to be the child of this rich scammy tsundere daddy that has no self-preservation, pretty sure many wants to be too
MC who is a massive fan of The Trash of the Count's Family had gotten that wish, one day she woke up in a baby body!
She was reborn as Cale Henituse's daughter and cue squealing like a true fan, thank you whatever God that granted me this wish!
however pretty soon she realized that not everything is rainbow and sunshine.
Her father, Cale wasn't Kim Rok Soo but rather the first Cale Henituse, the true trashy young Master of the Count
This, this raised a lot of red flags. Curse you God!
MC was named after her grandparents Jour Thames and Deruth Henituse, therefore getting the name Drew Henituse (I'm terrible at naming so bare with me)
Drew felt a bit embarrassed as Cale stared her adoringly, and made a promise to her that he would be the best father for her
with a smile that melted all her doubts away, she made a resolve to protect this new family of hers, he may not have been the father she initially wanted but he was still a tsundere daddy with self-destructive ways that needed her help... what is with this standards??
Drew Henituse, the secret child of the Trash from the Henituse household is kept hidden even from his own family. If people found out about her, it may bring trouble to his family and he was this close to getting Basen to accept becoming the true heir of the Henituse Family
He continued his trashy ways while secretly raising his baby in the sidelines, ever heard of a shapeshifter? yeah he hired one to pretend to be him whenever he wanted to go under the radar, the shapeshifter is also a nanny whenever he has to come back to his father's home, as far as he could tell it was a two in one situation, a win-win for him.
Everything was fine.
However it all changed when his beloved daughter had brought home a disgusting mutt. It was hate at first sight.
Choi han: . . . Is this yours? I saw her wondering around the street, its dangerous to leave children unattended
Cale's interpretation: What kind of parent are you?? leaving your child to wander about, how negligent.
Cale: . . .
The Shape shifter: Master I am so sorry!
Drew: Daddy can we keep him?
Internally: Yes! let's keep the original hero to protect us!
Cale: . . . Tsk.
Internally: My daughter is already getting seduced by this bastard!
The two kittens that Drew had randomly brought home one day, watched from the sidelines while Drew is already planning on how to rescue the black dragon
Basically, Drew just keep bringing random people (from the tcf cast) home until the Count family finally noticed her existence
Then they started trying to win her over, competing to be her favorite family member however that place will always be reserved for Cale.
Drew's mission is to help mend the bond that was broken in Cale's attempt in protecting his family.
Secretly, she's preparing herself for the day that Cale would switch with Kim Rok Soo, it scares her and breaks her heart when she thought of her Daddy disappearing
But that day will never come to pass as she stumble upon the newly transmigrated Soo Trio
Cale wonders why his daughter is infatuated with Kim Rok Soo, while said person just wishes for someone to take the hyper child away, Choi Jung Soo and Lee Soo Hyuk, the traitors were laughing at him and taking pictures of this adorable sight
Tumblr media
2nd take of an isekai fic.
SOME SPOILER AND TRIGGER WARNINGS.
Drew opens her eyes with a gasp, cold sweat dripping as she try to clutch something that was now out of her reach
She looked down at her soft hands, still untainted by scars that will never fade from her heart
She hurried to look for a mirror, a face that she hadn't seen for a long time was staring back at her. . .
They had done it, they went back in time.
a smile blossom on her face but it felt awkward so she just dropped it
Drew hurried to make plans and went look for her father. Face hidden underneath her hood, she watched a young red hair man walks by her.
Drew instantly knew that man wasn't her father, it was a different person living in his body.
It seems she was the only one that went back, however she would still do everything to protect this stranger because he was now Cale Henituse and therefore family
It was everything they fight for, everything they hoped, wished, dreamed for... but why had she been the only one
Sir, (She calls him, she would never call him Father or Cale because it felt like betraying-) she'll soon learn is every bit of stupid and self sacrificing as his namesake
She was too, she would be willing to give her life up to protect this new makeshift family
KRS now known as Cale, looked at the small child with shock, she was filthy and much too thin to be healthy but the face was staring back at him was undeniably, the same face he saw in the mirror just much younger
The guilt of accidentally stealing someone else body crawled back up from where he locked it
Silently he promised the original that he would take care of his daughter in his stead, and he could have imagined but he swore he heard a soft 'thank you'
This MC went through life where the White Star won, the Roan Kingdom was wiped out, Choi han had went insane after losing all of his party members and died, the few survivors were all living in poverty some giving up while others did their best to survive
Drew has a eating disorder, paranoia, and suicidal tendency
It was better to die than to get caught.
It has to be noted, that Drew had never met the Henituse Family before their death and only heard about them
She had met Hong before she regressed, (On had died in their childhood on the streets, after attempting to steal food for them and got caught) the two had a sibling relationship before his untimely death (it was a morbid to think that he died the same way his sister died), that's the reason why she felt closer to him than the other childrens, Raon and On just wanted to be closer to their new little sister
OG!Cale Henituse had died wishing for his daughter to have a better childhood than the one he had provided for her
Drew had found a letter addressed to her from her father, of apologies, broken promises illneverleaveyoubehindipromise, and wishes for her to grow up healthy and happy.
[I'll try to become the best father for you]
Drew lets her tears fall,
"You silly man, you already were"

Why All the Men in TCF/LCF are single.
Cale/Kim Rok Soo
Probably asexual and has trust issues, and attachment issues due to losing of parents.
Original Cale Henituse//Now Kim Rok Soo
Acted trash for like 10 years, who the hell wants to date someone who acts like that, and probably also have attachment, and loving issues due to neglect and death of mother.
Choi Han
Lived for like tens of years, in a dark cold, monstrous forest. Is older than he looks, and probably also has attachment issues, and is just really busy to love someone really.
Alberu Crossman
His secret. He is a dark elf. The question he asked as the man himself, why the fuck would he want to love/marry someone while their in a fake form. And that would hurt his feelings.
Eruhaben
Old, doesn't go out very much, he says he's about to die, and there's not much many dragons.
Beacrox
He looks intimidating, he finds no time, probably got confessions but didn't accept them, but still answered. He's too busy in the kitchen.
Hillsman
Tried flirting but fuckin failed.
White Star.
Curse of God Of Death. Too busy dominating the world. Probably gave up. He's too old now not even possible to date a dragon. Heck just marry the sealed god, he kisses his feet anyway just to crawl up to the top. And yes I'll bully him as much as I want until his back story is finally fuckin revealed.
I feel like Im forgetting someone. Children and Lock don't count. They are children and lets put it at that. If its Basen he's busy as hell.

Cale: … Cale: (Well f***)

OG!Cale AU
After his mother's death and when the Count is on his 'vacation', Cale lock himself in his mother study and accidently found an accient power. It was in a blank book. When his blood accidently drop on the blank page, random images and text appeared around Cale. In the end he has to eat one page of the book to aquire the accient power, Knowledge of Fate. A power to see the past, present, and future of the world. It also give you the snip set of alternate timeline. The power is merge with the soul.
Because of this, he know what will happens in the future (both TBOAH and TCF). He doesn't want TBOAH to happens but he also doesn't want to be TCF. So he determinate to create other alternative.
Here, Cale is a sharp and quick witted kid. Able to think thousand plan upon plan for the best in a matter of minutes. He is observant and manipulative, a sly little fox.
He decided that he will keep Ron and Beacrox because they are a constant presence in many timeline. Sure, there are some where they left but they always there. So he want to keep one of the treasure he cheerish.
So this Cale is more open and close with the father and son duo. He got The Indestructible Shield and Vitality of the Heart before his father back from his 'vacation'.
He sneak out to forest of darkness to the swamp. Store the dead mana in a magic orb he create and store all the poison around for the kitten he will pick up adobt in the future. He then got Dominating Aura, White Crown and store the skeleton. He is shock when he found a dragon egg under the skeleton so he take it with him. It was a gray dragon.
While he is there, he also went to where her mother half-power is to take it before he visit her grave to take the other half. So now he has Annual Rings of Life in his posession. Before he get it, he went to get Super Rock. Acquire a hidden villa along the way.
So, yes, my baby get dragon dead mana, poison, dragon skeleton and eggs, a villa, an artifact, and three ancient powers in one day. It's happen before he turn ten. He just badass like that.
And he know that Choi Han is there somewhere in the forest of darkness but he doesn't care, he is not that good of a person. He doesn't want to get involved with him and only want to work in a shadow.
Sorry, but I want Cale and Choi Han to be in a different 'group' despite they have common enemy. Choi Han will be under the spotlight while Cale will work behind the shadow.
He distant himself from his family. But will show a warmth side when they take initiative to get close with him first. He only become himself when he is with the Molan duo. Violan and Basen determinate to know him better and he never push them away. So they are actually a warm family but at the same time distant with Cale.
On one of the day when Cale just want to be alone in his mother's study, he found out about Thames bloodline ability. An ability to control puppet with red strings, Strings of The Performer. It's been ten years since the ability manifest. Since there is no future or timeline where he see 'himself' manifest the ability, he think that in this timeline it's also not gonna happens.
He also find a hidden room that contain treasures and a misterious artifact. When he make a contact with the artifact, he acquire another power that tied to his soul rather than his plate. A power of shadow, The Lurking Shadow. An ability to control shadow.
He take everything and move them to his Villa.
How wrong he is when he did manifest the powet when he watch one of his cousin harass Basen. He is shock beyond belief but manage to stop the 'invisible' strings that tied his cousin.
He thought that no one will 'see' but he is wrong again when Ron confront him. Ron see the string for a split second manifest from his young master before 'dissapear'. In the end, Cale choose to trust the Molan duo about his secret.
He bring the Molan duo to his secret Villa. And tell them everything. He explain about Knowledge of Fate vaguely. He show them the dragon egg and everything he store in the Villa, (dead mana, dragon skeleton, poison, treasure, magic stones, etc).
By the age of eleven, he success on retrieve the black dragon egg and shockingly also the red dragon egg with the help of the Molan duo. (In this timeline, I make the black and red dragon as twin. The dragon heart the half-dragon eat is the heart of another baby dragon)
Cale take care of the eggs carefully and full of gentleness and warmth and love. Few weeks after he got the other two, the gray dragon hatched. Like in a legend and books, Dragon is a mighty and smart creature. By the end of his first week, the dragon already fluent in speaking. He imprint on Cale and view him as a father figure (dispite he still 11 years old).
He named the gray dragon, Astraeus.
Not long after, Cale bring in Hannah and Jack. He doesn't know how but he manage to win them over to his side. The twin cut their ties with the Church of the Sun God after meeting Cale.
On his way home bringing the twin, he stumble upon an abandoned temple. Curiosity get the best of him so he take a detour to explore it. On the altar in the middle of scrifice-like room, there is a spear stuck in the middle. Absentmindedly he grab the spear and obtain a new power that not goes to his plate but merge with his soul, A Frozen Soul. An ability to control ice.
Cale use a cloak embodied by rune to keep him warm.
A year after Astraeus born, the twin dragon hatch. Cale named the black dragon, Damien, and the red dragon is named, Ilya.
(I want to keep named him Raon, but even though this Cale have knowledge of Korea he is not fully understand it. And he also want to named his children the dragons himself. And yes, I made them hatched earlier because of a factor, Cale's love and care when they still inside eggs.)
*sobs* my baby already a father of three at the tender age of twelve *sobs*
Before the twin hatched, Cale took in a runaway slave. The slave is a pureblood Dark Elf, age 15. He doesn't have a name and after he swore loyalty to Cale, he (C) grant him a name. Cale named him, Hermes. His loyalty only laid on Cale. Hermes is a natural swordmaster and a genius when it come to any type of weapons.
He also establish connection and ally with Billos earlier. Along with a lunatic magician named Judas. Just like his name, he is not someone who stay loyal to anyone. He is known as a powerful and genius magician who only work for himself and will not hesistated to betray you in a blink. But in reality, he is searching someone he can put his faith on. He almost give up until he meet Cale. After that, he become loyal to a fault to Cale, he willing to stab himself when Cale jokingly asked him if he will stab himself if he (C) ask. Cale grant him a new name, Besnik. The other still known him as Judas, but only Cale and his family known him as Besnik. Cale is his moral compase.
By the age of thirteen, he went to Ubarr Territory to get The Sound of the Wind. After he acquired it, he stumble into three children at the age of 1 year unconcious near the sore. He tsked like he found something unpleasant but end up taking them to his Villa.
His kids The dragons are acstatic that they will get new siblings, which of course Cale denied because he doesn't plan to take in the unconcious kids and will released them to where they come from. Or, that's his first plan. But after found out that they are an after product of war between whale, mermaid and shark (yes, even shark, goddamit, a thribe that already extinct. Cale is not paid for this.). It seems like they born (or hatched?) around a same time close to each other and have been together since then. Which is bizzare how in reality their thribes are enemy. He took them in, much for the dragons delight. Cale sigh, it seems like he become too soft after became a father guardian of three kids.
They have no name so it's become Cale responsibility to name his kids them. He named the mermaid, Kairos. The shark is named, Calandra. The whale is named, Nikolas.
Two month after adopting take in the kids, Cale got another family members allies. Princess Jopis and Gashan, both are shaman but one is human while the other is from Tiger tribe.
He also help Freesia in hiding when her organization betrayed her. After spending time around Cale and watching him, she decided to place her trust on someone one more time. (Since Freesia lived in Henituse territory for three years before tcf!Cale reqruited her, that's mean it was when og!Cale is 15 years. But in this timeline, imma make her come to the territory when Cale is 14.)
Before he got Freesia, Cale got another family members allies in a form of a necromancer and a saintess of Abandoned God. The name of the saintess is Eilif. While the necromancer is named, Achlys.
After adopting sheltered the three kids and meeting Eilif and Achlys. Cale went to get Fire of Destruction. After he got it, he stumble upon a dying green dragon, Olienne and an elf named Asher. Living with three young dragons made Cale develope some kind of kinship with the dragon race. So reluctantly he drag the green dragon with him, along with the elf, ignoring the death threats thrown his way.
He found a way to keep the dragon to life longer (which definately will outlived Cale) with the help of Knowledge of Fate. The young dragons are ecstatic for having another dragon in the family and they calls him Olly gramps. Which baffled Olienne because this young dragons are so different from other dragon he ever met. They are disrespectful, protective toward their father (which what the fuck?), and don't let him started with the humans and other tribes around Cale.
So reluctantly he stayed to teach the young dragons the ways of dragons and pass down his knowledge. It's definitely not because he grow a soft spot toward the human who sacrifice himself to help him and started to see him as a son. And definitely not because he (C) indulge his (C) kids by calling him Father-nim since he is their self proclaimed grandfather. Definitely not!!
And somehow the Father-nim stuck until present time.
The elf also begged Cale to let him stay with him. So, yes, Cale not only got a new ancient power but also a new father and older brother figure.
Oh, when Olienne told them about how the hell Cale still intact after getting more than two ancient power, he is grounded by Ron for a week and being chewed by his other family members for his recklesness. Even the kids look dissapointed at him!! Where's the arrow that stab his heart came froms?!
At the age of 15, he can't wait anymore to find the kittens. So he take Hans and the dragons to visit the cat tribe.
(Oh, I forgot to mention that Hans join Cale's little family when he was 14. In this timeline, Hans's loyalty is for Cale since the beggining. Another assassin!!)
When he arrived there, he is boiled in anger when he watch his future kids the kitten being tortured. He kidnapped them and terrorize the tribe for a month non-stop. And that's how he adopt take in another kids.
Not long after the kittens join the family, Cale decided to collect the remaining ancient powers. In his journey getting Blood-Drenched Rock, he established a connection with Bud and Glenn. And in his journey getting Sky Eating Water, he acquired an abandoned island far from everywhere and made it his secret base.
And in between getting the last two, he accidently made a blood pack with a demon and have a vampire following him around. How, you ask? I don't even know. Just like Goldie-gramps said, Cale is an unlucky bastard. The vampire name is Esmeray, and the demon is named by Cale, Noir.
They life together in Super Rock Villa with Bud and Glenn, Jopis, and Gashan come over from time to time. They also often spend time together on the island, Noelani: Mist of heaven.
At the age of 16, Cale come clean to his family. He bring them (Deruth, Violan, Basen and Lily) to visit the Villa and meet his second family.
Forgot to mention, Eric, Gilberth and Amiru aware of Cale's little family since he was 14. What can he say, they are his hyungs and noona, and they dote on him too much. The three of them are his eyes and ears among noble as he never went to any gathering. He also allied himself with Taylor and Cage. He help Taylor defend himself from the hitmen sent by Venion, so in this timeline he is not paralyzed.
In between his 17, Cale got another lunatic in his family in a form of Clopeh Sekka. The heir went to Henituse Territory to train inside the forest of darkness but got ropped by Cale to his Villa. Cale know who he is and who he will become, so why not acquired him earlier? He know he already regret it even before dragging him to his Villa, but he guess it's better? Whatever.
He didn't reveal everything of course. Only few months after he finally decided that he can trust Clopeh. I mean, look at how crazy he is about Cale and he only know a little. I can't imagine how it will be when he know what the family know. Clopeh feels blessed when he found out and officially meet Cale's family. He and Besnik decided to team up to create a new religion to worship Cale behind his back.
Cale suddenly got a chill.
In this timeline, Cale is known as The Guardian of Henituse Territory IN the territory. He only act trash toward unfavorable people INSIDE his territory. So everyone who life in Henituse Territory know Cale true nature. Indifferent care, noncallant worry, and the double meaning of his words that often being misunderstood by people around him (in a good way). The servants and resident adore Cale.
His trash reputation is only exist amongs other nobles. While inside territory, he is view as a guardian and benefactor. Cale is basically a walking contradiction.
Cale family connected to him by their shadow. It's a really useful ability where he can contact each other easily. Cale also able to teleport them by their shadow.
A few week before the first event in TBOAH happens, Cale accidently help Pendrick who want to free ten kidnapped wolf children. They followed Cale after that and like being around him. Pendrick somehow also ropped into their little family. Which he is not complaint even a bit and think that he actually blessed. Meeting Cale is truly a blessing for him as he meet many awesome people, especially the dragons.
(Imma named the 9 unnamed wolf children and make Cale adopted those who 7 years old and under)
Lock think that his siblings are dead while in reality they are abducted to become slaves.
I am tempted to make Alberu appear earlier since I am a hardcore Alberu x OG!Cale shipper 😭
