When Cale gains a new ancient power or ability, he never tells anyone. The only way you know of his powers is if he uses them in a fight or you were there when he got it.
No one knew about Record until Cale used it trying to find the White Stars reincarnations. Heck, they still don’t know what that was.
To them, Cale just suddenly gained the ability to remember everything he read and he was also getting a fever from it, so no one knows what that was.
When he used Instant to destroy to the statues, NO ONE knew whatever THE FUCK THAT WAS—LIKE— Cale transcended time to destroy and statue, and then he looked like he took a shower in KNIVES SOMEHOW?? AND THEN HIS PLATE STARTED TO BREAK???
When Cale first used the super rock in the gorge of death no one knew a single thing about whatever the fuck was happening, but they just had to accept it
[this bit was added on later- whenever Cale used the “Blood-drenched rock” or whatever it was called while he was trying to use Embrace on the White Star, and he ended up using Embrace on one of the White Stars attacks but the button or whatever was holding it started to break so it was basically a bomb and he just ran through the castle like a mad man, and to everyone else it looked like Cale was covered in blood. Absolutely no one had any clue that he wasn’t in fact bleeding from everywhere on his body so that’s literally what they were assuming]
When Cale helped the Jungle because Arm had taken an island hostage and rigged dead mana bombs around the shore and everyone’s like
“oh no, what do we do, if we try to take it back all the hostages will die” and Cale is just like “leave it to me. I will eat all of the dead mana” LIKE SIR-💀
THAT IS NOT A NORMAL THING TO SAY.
And then they go along with the plan anyways!?! AND THEN CALE STARTS CONTROLLING THE FUCKING TREES???
AND THE ALLIES JUST HAVE TO ACCEPT IT AND KEEP GOING WITH THE PLAN BECAUSE IF THEY DON’T EVERYTHING WOULD GO TO SHIT?
Just-
Cale:*reveals a new power in the heat of battle*
The enemies:😨
The allies:😨

I need everyone to acknowledge the fact that KRS!Cale is a MASSIVE bookworm. He's able to thrive in Birth of a hero because he read it and enjoyed it. (yesyes record helps him, but you can't ignore the fact that he knows the characters, not just the plot. That comes from liking the thing you're reading!)
Give me the young master spending his afternoons reading under the shade of a tree with a new book series and absolutely devouring it in one sitting. He's missed being able to read a whole series and not having to hunt for the next books through a destroyed city.
Give me Cale with a little notebook full of books he'd like to read, the titles collected from the people he talks to. He'll read anything or at least try it out, but fantasy remains his favourite genre.
He also writes little opinion blurbs for his favourtie books, or jots down quotes and favourite lines. Sure his record ability means that he doesn't really have to, but it's an old habit he enjoys.
Cale, who starts collecting books on his travels, just one or two from every place he visits. His friends and allies pick up on this and start bringing him books they think he'd like. Cale has a very speicifc and rare smile when someone gifts him a book. Its small, but it somehow takes over his entire face, and you can almost see his eyes sparkle in delight. It quickly becomes a smile everyone looks forward to.
Cale, who never turns down a book given as a gift, and so he starts picking up bits of knowledge from across the continent. He learns about the edible plants in the Jungle, the different variations of marble and stone throughout the Roan Kingdom, the fables and myths of the Dark Elves. He keeps them on a shelf in his room in the super rock villa, and every once in a while, the kids pick one to have read to them. When the shelf is full, Eruhaben pulls some out from his hoard as a gift to Cale. They're almost too gaudy, but Eruhaben enchants them to protect the books from dust, damage, and pests. Cale spends an entire day reorganizing his collection.
He never thought he would be able to build his own personal library, but here he is.
Cale loves to compare the books he has in this world and the ones he knew before. Sometime in the future, he sits down and uses record to copy out his favourite series. He gifts it to Choi Han so he can have a small piece of home he never got to experience.
It becomes known that the best way to get Cale to stop and actually take a break is to plop a kid on his lap and give him a book he's been looking forward to. One year for his birthday, Alberu gives Cale free rein to explore the palace's secret library. They find him curled up in a corner a couple hours later surrounded by stacks of books.
Cale is 100% the type of person to insist that more libraries should be available to the public so that he can read easily when travelling to different places. It's definetly not because he wants more kids to be able to learn how to read, and he was able to grow into loving books because of his local library.

Cale being genuinely kind and wanting what is best for himself and for the people he cherishes as friends, family and loved ones, but I want him to unleash hell on those that are his enemies. Let him hunt them down callously, sending hounds after them for they are not worthy of being a dragon's prey- and let them witness their last moments alive by promising to hand deliver their remains to their families.
In the end, he doesn't even keep that promise of his. They shouldn't have dared to trust him.
Leaning his cheek on the palm of his hand, he watches them breathe their last and whispers low and sweet in their ears, "I changed my mind. What better gift to give your family, than the bright hope that you may still be alive somewhere? Let them wait... until they forget."
He keeps watch over them as they claw desperately in the dirt, tears spilling over, cursing him as blood-filled spittle runs down their chin before failing to move again. "You shouldn't have crossed paths with me. I don't enjoy doing this, but people like you never learn, so I always have to do this the hard way."

Everyone thinking Cale is suicidal and him doing nothing but fuel that belief.
So.... yeah! Another Cale fanfic! This is kinda a summary. I'll post this when I have more chapter on this fic and also the other Cale sicfic I'm working on.
This is basically Cale's slacker life. Kinda. With a lot of chaos.
It was another quiet day.
As always, people were bussling around the mansion. Administrators with work to do; knights with duties to take on; servants and maids with chores to finish; commoners with pleas to make; and the Henituses busying themselves in the work of the duchy.
All except a certain young master.
Cale was sitting by the window in a rocking chair, blankly staring at the scene outside. On and Hong were curled up in his lap in their Cat forms while Roan was sleeping in the comfy armrest of the rocking chair. He absentmindedly continued to pat all three children with soft, equal strokes, not unlike a machine.
The slacker was having a fun time doing nothing. Absoultly nothing. He was consistently patting the children averaging 8 years old while keeping his mind so blank, the author of this fanfic was feeling that the repeat of Cale's thought(less) process was so boring that she needed to cause some chaos.
"Hey, Choi Han," the redhead suddenly called out, his eyes never leaving the window.
The black-haired man gaurding the door turned to look at his liege who had been sitting silently for over an hour.
"Yes Cale-nim?"
Cale didn't answer back immediately, even though he was the one who initiated the conversation. He continued to look out the window before turning to study the intricate gold designs on the window sill. Cale then slightly leaned forward to better peer at the ground below. Cale's room in the Henituse esate was on the third floor.
Unlike Korea's buildings, which mostly have a relatively low ceiling because of cost and other factors, the floors of the manor were really high because of all the lights and chandeliers decorating the walls. After all, the Henituses' never lacked money. In conclusion, even with only being on the third floor, Cale felt like he was on a six-story surface.
Cale shared his honest opinions with Choi Han.
"Do you think I'd die if I jumped from here right now?"
Cale suddenly felt chills on his back. He subconcously straighened up, feeling like a teenager who had been trying to sneak out, only to be caught before he could.
"And why would you do that, Cale-nim?"
Choi Han's sickeningly sweet voice filled the room, not at all matching the aura he was currently emitting.
Cale gulped. He sensed that he just started a shitshow; without knowing how he did it.

Choi Han:*just entering a room* Hey… guys why are Mary and Cale-nim just hugging in the hallway?
Eruhaben: have you not noticed?
Choi Han: Noticed what?
Rosalyn:Well, recently Mary has been approaching Cale-nim at random times and just started hugging him.
Choi Han:*looks back in the hallway to see if they’re still there* But… why are they just standing there?
Eruhaben: We think he’s just frozen in confusion and worry, he doesn’t dare disengage the hug.
Choi Han: What’s the longest they’ve hugged somewhere before?
Rosalyn: I think at least like 25 minutes.
Choi Han:…
Eruhaben: I think he’s genuinely worried about her.
Choi Han: And why is Mary doing this?
Rosalyn: I think it’s her attempt at a “joke”
Eruhaben: Well, I for one find it incredibly amusing.
Rosalyn:… Same. I’m a bit tempted to start doing it myself to be honest…

So I've recently been re-reading TCF And chapter 196 is such an excellent example of how Cale interacts with the people around him, how he views himself and how they view him. This is also at the point in the novel where he hasn't really accepted that he is Cale now, not KRS, because he doesn't feel like he can.
So anyway, we start the chapter seeing the people of Rain City react to Cale's shield and they say something important!
"Won't he faint is he uses such a large shield? Why doesn't he just activate it when the northern bastards come?" "Can't you tell? He doesn't want to see us or the territory getting hurt at all."
At first, I thought this was just the regular drama of people reacting to Cale, but then Choi Han, the kids, and Ron tell him he's being ridiculous, and I realize the townsfolk are right.
The Wyvern Battle is only the 2nd or 3rd major battle Cale has been in so far but only as Cale. As KRS, he's done this before, and having read later chapters, we know Cale holds so much guilt over those battles and how he wanted to keep those he cared for away from it all but couldn't. After all, record only gives him information to guide them and make plans; he often couldn't physically protect them. How many times has he defended a shelter or teammates and wished he could have just covered them all with a shield instead of giving commands from the back? We know how guilty he feels over Choi Jung Soo and Lee Soo Hyuk's deaths.
He knows he doesn't have to keep it up, and he's the one who spreads a rumour that it's taking all of his energy, but he's already considering himself a "bad person" for taking military command and only giving orders. (except that's what it means to take military command?) There is absolutely another motive for keeping the shield around the city. Cale wants the opposing forces to view him as weakened, or he doesn't want people to think his power is as strong as it is. However, at the same time, he's absolutely protecting them because, just like the townsperson says, he doesn't want to see any of them get hurt by an attack he could have blocked.
Cale is doing what he can to undermine himself while claiming he's going to make everyone else the hero of this battle, but he won't drop the shield, which means no one can disregard or forget his involvement. It's not intentional! He's just literally made himself the first line of defense as a direct parallel to every time he was the last line as KRS. He wants to stay at the back, he does not plan to get involved unless he has to, but Cale won't let himself stay out of it. So the shield goes up and stays for multiple days.
Meanwhile, all Choi Han, Ron and the kids see is Cale surrounded by paperwork (because taking command of the entire Northeast is a lot of work), keeping a shield up that's known to make him cough up blood (they don't know about it getting stronger or the vitality of heart), and only sleeping 1 to 2 hours a night (thank you crybaby), so they assume it's a combination of work and concentration to keep the shield up. As usual, they're worried and frustrated at Cale's self-sacrificing tendencies.
We haven't even gotten to the actual battle yet, but this is such a great setup of how it's going to go and how the novel goes.
