Could you possibly talk about Viscera? I don’t have anything specific but I love the concept that he’s a Whole in a Soul’s place

Very long ramble under the cut

He is really my most under-spoken-on character here...which is odd because he is by far one of my favorite / more complex ones!

Vis is in his concept, Whole in Soul's place. I think in the album now, he reflects Soul very well in the idea of being the shell. Though this is mainly because Whole isn't really a character and Soul is the implied shell of what we think of as Whole in concept.. The casing, the iron maiden for Mind and Heart to be held within!!! (there is a reason his name was almost Body ig.. thank god CJ reconsidered tho. Body is kinda an awkward name/title.)

Anyways.

Vis is a hollowed out husk of what is supposed to be somebody. Soul is some form of throughline to Mind and Heart. A connector, an adaptor. Viscera is simply not this. He is a vacancy because he is fundamentally nothing. Meant to be someone, torn from his purpose and placed promptly in the spot of what would typically be his identity.

Sooo Viscera struggles to be much of anybody. In this, and through the hundreds of loops he endures due to Astray (Soul as Whole) and his inability to really, of course, be a person when he is meant to just be one facet of someone, Vis remembers everything.

It was a commonly shared idea that Soul is able to choose to remember or forget during loops. Swap Au explores this concept in that Astray explicitly is the reason Judge (Heart as Mind) and Ennui (Mind as Heart) forget alongside himself. Vis, as Whole yet not knowing it, remembers all of this context (though from his own point of view. So he does not know Astray /well/ really. But he feels for him in terms of knowing the panic that comes with having split down to three again.)

Vis is kind and gentle and cares very very much for his thirds, or rather his ids and his Whole as he sees them. He reminds Ennui and Judge of their names and his own every loop, and though things change during loops, and no timeline is entirely consistent, there are throughlines and thus predictability. So he can navigate it just as well.

Viscera is interesting in juxtaposition to Eleutheromania Soul who remembers his loops though Mind and Heart forget just the same. Yet their reactions and handling of the situations are fundamentally different. Though this is due to their roles and the treatment they get in their respective Psyche and by their respective versions of a Whole or Soul.

... But yes. Vis is. deeply longing to be complete in some way. He is unsure always of his emptiness and what might fill it, but never loses this inkling that being Whole is.. what he needs. And in some way, it is and is not that!

He also speaks in intense amounts of prose and roundabout allegories, symbolism, and metaphors. It was more a quirk of his character to make him distinct from how my other's spoke, but I think it also calls to the deeper idea of the way fragmented thoughts put together can be a little outlandish and nonsensical but.. make perfect sense to you in some way. Or something like that.

He also, moves very slowly and takes a lot of time to do things. Like an old window's computer. He needs time to process information!! And I attribute this also to his emptiness and lack of anything but memory as it is all he has in the moment to base what should be his feelings and thoughts on.

^ Though despite that sounding like he cannot feel or think or anything, it is more like trying to make sure he feels like himself? even though realistically Viscera very deeply struggles with that idea. Not that he'd say it ever. Vis is incredibly genuine, though. He does what he can to ensure the safety of others including his ids and they in turn do the same to him.

The Swap Au really makes for a VERY interesting person to look at due to characterization. Someone who is unstable but trying, and through all their struggles remains loving and warm. That is who Astray could be, who Vis essentially is and what Judge and Ennui contribute too.

Also he smells perpetually like citrus. I do not know why but I made it canonical that all four of them have distinct smells to them and the things they summon. Perhaps they are all just very scent oriented.

Also-Also in terms of my other Aus and Sources as a concept for HMS. Of which I can elaborate on ig? if need be! Viscera has no source...................... it is a black voided little pit or hole there instead.

If Soul's source is a star, then Viscera's became a sort of blackhole. I suppose.

HELLO. I AM SO SO MAD THIS TOOK ME SO LONG TO ANSWER BC I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO ASK FOR MONTHS but i haven't had like a single free hour until now ANYWAY OF COURSE THANK U SM FOR TAKING INTEREST

MAJOR BABEL SPOILERS AHEAD //

cohortswap is basically an au eren @chromathesia came up with where griffin and robin swap places in the story; robin is now the older golden child gone astray, and griffin is now the younger second failure. and the rest of the cohorts get swapped with them!

we have a lore doc that is like over 14 pages long but we are keeping the full thing under wraps for now because eren is writing a massive fic they don't want to spoil too early lmaooo

some foundational deets:

ramy still dies... so sorry. except in this case he and robin planned to run and leave babel for the hermes society together (the um. romantic eloping is implied but unfortunately i don't think either of them get a real chance to act on it), and they plan for victoire to stay behind to keep leaking information out to them. letty finds out and betrays them the same way; calling the cops and barging in with a gun and. yeah. except this time, because it happens outside their dorm rooms, robin manages to escape, and drags ramy's body across half of oxford to bury him in the garden of the old library. he is deeply deeply fucked up from this

professor lovell doesn't die... so sorry. furious about robin's betrayal, he blames it on robin being corrupted by spending too long in his home country, and rips griffin out of china early. but he realises very quickly that griffin isn't fluent in chinese and can barely hold a candle to robin's talent. he never tells griffin about robin but very much takes it all out on griffin, who grows up feeling compared to a ghost his whole childhood. when he first meets robin it all clicks, and he can't help but resent his older brother for the hell he got put through

to save herself, victoire sucks up to letty, tells her that she almost got hooked by hermes and wants out and to put it behind them after everything, and letty is so desperate to believe it that she pulls all her strings to vouch for her and keep her safe. victoire remains at babel and she keeps working covertly with hermes under letty's nose. my comic was about letty and victoire first seeing griffin in babel, and mistaking him for robin. letty doesnt take it well lmao but also in her bullheaded stubbornness starts to treats griffin as her second chance to prevent robin's "mistakes" from happening again lollll

so that's like the general premise! here's some other fun deets:

robin is... severely depressed but is determined to follow through on hermes' work and not give himself an easy out like ramy implied. griffin is so desperately eager for more of hermes when he finds out, but robin keeps him at an arms' length for ages because he's literally been wanting to die for years and is not prepared or willing to have a little brother to look after now. they end up butting heads more often than not and it's a very strained relationship (as griffin and robin's relationship is in canon)

when griffin fails his silver-working test, it's because robin tries to help offhand by giving him a matchpair he came up with. griffin can't get it to work in the exam, but worst of all, chakravarti recognises it as robin's work. he doesn't report griffin for it since he's also a part of hermes, but he tries to give griffin a second chance to come up with his own, and griffin can't, so he fails. up until that point griffin had been trying to hide from robin how little he knew, so the look on robin's face when griffin next sees him is unbearable, like, the mix of pity and anger that griffin didn't tell him, the disappointment that griffin wasn't the connection to robin's culture he wanted, the guilt that robin let lovell rip someone else out of their home, and now griffin knows exactly what letting down an older brother feels like. but it all happens in the half second before robin squashes it all down and gets down to business because there are more important things to worry about and maybe it's good that can't get caught up in griffin's life like this. to quote eren: "i think the worst part to griffin would be that robin just treats it like a setback. like okay, that's one less tool for you to use, you'll have to make up for that deficiency somewhere, moving on, when he wants robin to react as though it's personal to him that griffin doesn't measure up because it should be, because griffin's not good enough for their father (and robin always rolls his eyes when griffin tries to claim lovell and griffin knows why but lies to himself that he doesn't) so he must not be good enough to this tarnished golden child, the prodigal son that lovell tried to recreate. but no, he's just slightly more ineffectual gear within the revolution now, that's a slight hiccup at best and not an entire childhood snatched away from a boy whose clearest memory of canton is the smell of sesame oil in a wok" 

robin warns griffin about recruiting evie very early on, but doesn't tell him about letty or ramy for a long while because the wound is still fresh. griffin still persists, and robin is forced to whisk griffin out of babel after he kills evie. and he's just a mess whispering "you were right you were right im sorry im so sorry" because robin told him this could happen, but he let love and idealism cloud his judgments with evie, and robin has NEVER seen griffin like this, and any angry berating about griffin's stupid misjudgments die on his lips

griffin/anthony is so so very real. anthony is recruited by victoire separately, so griffin isn't even aware for a while and i think anthony actually held off on telling griffin bc of how close he was with sterling LOL. griffin and sterling had something insane going on at first, with sterling trying to be genuinely sympathetic to griffin's plight as an attempt to distinguish himself from his uncle's legacy, before the years drive them apart and griffin becomes aware that everything sterling conceded to him was merely lipservice. anthony and griffin get really close after they realise the other is already apart of hermes and post-evie as well. eren writes sterling as a critique of armchair radicals who see a sliver of violent liberation in practice and easily revert back into believing that the oppressed are savages. evie is a critique of white woman tears <3 i do believe she cries every time someone called her out for saying anything a little racist

yeah um there is way more and we both have comic/fic wips we're working on for the au but i will end this post here because it got so insanely long christ above. thank you so much for the question though i have soooo many thoughts about cohortswap au it's been absolutely taking over my brain

John Loves You AU notes

So I'm awake now and I've been seeing this Swap AU concept everywhere, so naturally, I wanted to contribute by bringing my own little interpretation of things to the table ❤️

Big credit to @zzoupz and @salmonandsoup bc they formed the basis for a lot of these ideas and I just wanted to build on some of the concepts bc they are insanely cool and inspiring ✨

John Ward - Charismatic, well-spoken, manipulative, but quite spineless and cowardly otherwise, John is a priest who can’t help but look at the world with scorn. He is of the belief that humanity is irredeemable in its current state. That no amount of prayer and penance can save mankind now. The only way for there to be salvation is for the world to effectively be “reset” by God once more. Much like Noah and his Ark, John feels that it is his mission to gather all those that are still able to be saved and are destined for the new world. Once he has gathered them all in his temple, The Ark, he intends to initiate a ceremony to unleash a “flood of angels” into the world. He believes that God will not be able to ignore such a sign and will “wipe the slate clean,” after which he and his followers will emerge in a new Eden and rebuild the world as God intended. Also, he wields a dagger in the shape of a cross (because that idea is cool as hell and I’m obsessed with it.) His cult features iconography of hoofed animals, especially lambs, goats, and deer.

Lisa Pearson - John’s right-hand woman and chosen “vessel.” If he is Joseph, then she is the Mother Mary of the Cult of the Ark. Having known John since childhood, she had no reason not to trust him when he told her the world would soon end and that he needed her help, especially when he was inaugurated as a priest and claimed: “it was God’s will.” She trusts John wholeheartedly to protect her and save her soul. She is loyal to him and utterly adores him, and she will stubbornly deny that she is with him against her will. She genuinely loves John, and she’s very kind and sweet, and non-hostile, unlike John and the rest of the cult. One should tread lightly though, as she is very perceptive, and she is very much a tattle-tail. Any perceived threat she sees will immediately be reported, and John will respond with full force to defend her. Even if that means having to stab someone himself. She helps John run the abortion clinic and harvest “young, pure souls” to use as messengers to God.

Father Garcia - Garcia is considered the guardian of John’s flock. He’s referred to as the Shepherd by John’s followers, the Angel by John himself, and the Reaper by all outsiders that try to lead his lambs astray. A senior priest, John took advantage of him during the lowest point in his life after the death of his wife. He deceived a grieving Garcia into believing that he could find peace again or perhaps even see her when the world was reborn into a new Eden, and all he had to do was play the role of Shepherd for his flock of chosen ones. Garcia was all too happy to accept in his desperation to find purpose and faith again, gladly taking up arms and fiercely defending John and his cult. He’s a stern, stubborn old man who has bought completely into John’s rhetoric and cannot be swayed, for he has nothing left to lose. He’s former military and he speaks candidly of how he served in Vietnam in particular. He’s also a hunting enthusiast, so he knows his way around traps and guns and will use this knowledge to keep outsiders at bay.

Amy Martin - Displaced just before she turned 18, Amy ended up being taken in by Miriam. Her family and she frequently got into arguments and fights about the fact she worked at an abortion clinic. Her parents threatened to throw her out so Amy went a step ahead and left on her own after they tried placing nonsensical rules and restrictions on her. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as Amy’s family became the first victims of John and his cult after they refused to join his cause. He believed they would be easy to indoctrinate on account of their grief over their lost twins but they resisted. As such, he ended up having them killed and used their corpses as part of a summoning ritual for some “angels.” Amy never learned the truth past the fact that her family was murdered. She’s furious and bitter and demands to be included in Gary’s mission to take down the cult.

Michael Davies - Left in the care of Father Garcia by a family who mistook his albinism for demonic possession, when Garcia joined the cult he brought Michael with him. Michael was originally planned to be used as a vessel; “a mouthpiece for God.” (Aka, he was going to be possessed by a demon.) Somehow, he managed to escape and was offered sanctuary by Miriam until Gary could properly exorcise him. Unfortunately, Gary was unable to do so and Michael ended up escaping their care. Now, Gary’s mission is to find him, free his soul, and destroy John’s cult before they find him first and unknowingly complete the ritual that will open the world to a flood of demons.

Tiffany Robinson - Tiffany is Gary's childhood friend. She was often the only one who stood beside him when others picked on him for his status as a bastard child. As they got older, they stayed very close despite their significant differences. While Gary went on to become a preacher, Tiffany leaned more into news reporting and writing in general and adopted an agnostic mindset. They still spend a lot of time together and she volunteers herself up as his assistant who takes notes for him and helps him edit and practice his sermons while joking around with him.

Gary Miller - Gary is a preacher, albeit not an overly religious one. He takes a more loose and accepting interpretation of the Bible, focusing less on God and more on the stories, encouraging community support and acceptance. His heart is in the right place, but he tends to come off as very cynical and critical of the Church as an organization and holds a bitterness towards established religion due to the way it was shoved down his throat as a child. He’s got a small but devoted following, despite his opinions being unpopular with most. When he’s not at an altar, he’s usually volunteering in the local community. He uses a cane (with a sword in it bc like I said before, I’m OBSESSED with the concept) to get around. While he’s mostly healthy, old age has caught up with him a bit and his left knee is in a sore state on account of an incident with some other kids in his youth that left it damaged. He’s kind, charismatic, a bit snarky and sarcastic with his humor, but overall well-mannered and good-natured.

Miriam Bell - Miriam was a devoted nun for decades before she had Gary. He was an unplanned child for obvious reasons and seeing as termination wasn’t an option (and she would have just been further ostracized for it), she was excommunicated from her church as a nun. This didn’t stop her from loving Gary with all her heart, nor did it stop her from attending a different church with her boy despite the constant rumors and nasty comments about her situation. She was the one who taught him to judge less and be more kind and tolerant. Her only regret is not doing more to protect him from the constant badgering from others who knew he was born out of wedlock. She’s a loving, protective figure in her greater general community and is a bit of a mama bear to all the kids. If you walk into her house, you will notice a lot of handmade dolls, a lot of old jewelry, and a lot of swords to go with the homemade cooking. She teaches self-defense classes on the side, and she still spoils her adult son.

Alu, Roger, Jefferey, Malphas - All powerful demons conjured from Hell to usher in chaos and the end of days, John believes them to be nothing more than angels. He’s summoned them under the thought that they will get God’s attention and serve as witnesses and testimonies as to why the earth should be flooded and purged once more. Tricksters that they are, they are more than happy to go along with his delusions and make demands for “evidence” in the form of sacrifices and ceremonies. He doesn’t realize that they’re not angels, and they’re just fine with that fact.

i've talked abt the au a little bit a short while ago, but to put it in a bit more explanatory manner, the world of worship is set in around the ending of the middle ages. humanity is steadily building- in power, technology, and audacity- and some individuals have begun to reroute their attentions and loyalties to the once-forsaken old gods; eldritch beasts whose terrible power nearly brought about the extinction of humanity.

but obviously that was like. all in the past. the elder gods are epic and would never do that a second time. obviously. cults are super safe and would never lead you astray ever.

mechanically, worship is set to play somewhat similarly to don't starve, with your selected playstyle affecting how the world reacts to you, and vice versa. however, unlike don't starve- where your playstyle is determined by your character- worship's playstyles revolve around the elder god you choose to serve. which- for a swap au- allows me much more room to play around with the dst cast. it doesn't have to be a one-to-one swap, and certain characters can share alliances with others- or be outcasts, unbelonging to any cult at all.

currently, there are only five unique gods, which i will touch upon very very briefly:

hubryus is the self proclaimed sewer of insanity. your 'standard' eldritch, unspeakable beast. he takes great pleasure in contorting the bodies of mortals, and sees man as the perfect canvas to transform- which is caused through ideas instilled in the subject's head (and its madness. the 'ideas'. the ideas are madness. you mutate when you go mad)

an-ansgaidh, the apostle of deliverance, is a blood-soaked and ancient thing. pitiful of humanity- its sentience and mortality- it has become hellbent on snuffing all sentient life from earth, in what it considers an act of mercy. he looooves blood. so much. can't get enough of that stuff. also don't ask me how to pronounce his name bc i dont know either

salithys, the deceit weaver, is probably one of the more interesting and lore relevant gods. creating a false image of herself, she portrays herself as a merciful god (somewhat reminiscent of- but not identical to- the typical interpretation of christian god), instead of the eldritch monster she truly is. using this facade, she plans to take over the world, her charming appearance masking the ruthless underbelly of her true intentions

glub, the dank lord of fertility, is a fish. a fish god, but a fish nonetheless. he's a simple thing, really. he craves for humanity to flourish and boom in population, so he can flood the earth and feast on them all. also he's a crossover god, originally from crawl. so. if you played crawl before. just think of that one guy from crawl

then there's kessessa, mother of the coven, who is also very lore heavy, but to put it simply, she's there to. protect the coven, really. in exchange for humanity's knowledge, she offers rituals to those who serve her. shes also a moth (and moths. are epic)

i am realizing that i said i would be doing a brief overview. and that i'm a big liar bc this is not at all brief. um. swagever. its my blog... and its ur fault for trusting me to not have worms in my brain

anyways, i'll talk more abt this if i'm prompted to a second time. but i'm sure you can already see where some characters would fit in (max, having insanity as his whole motif, seems obviously fitting to go with hubryus. and wilson with his stupid knowledge seeking self would probably flock to kessessa. excreta).

since worship isn't like. real yet. it's pretty difficult coming up with a plot or anything for this au. right now i'm just playing with them like dollies. but that in itself is pretty fun. we love dollies here, right. we love those thangs.

PoliZ’s Bingo Card Attack Plan - May 2023

Chapter three is in progress: finally getting Tony on screen and together with Rhodey, but the mistaken identity part doesn’t really pay off yet - so I may have to add on a bit more. 

Column B - part 2:  Finish and post chapter for B2 - Crossover AU - looking at my Star Wars fusion Stucky/Stuckony fic:  Never More to Go Astray

Row 1 -  Edit and post fic for C1 - Babysitter AU.  Am working on a collab with Magica -  Peresmesnik (aka Three Avengers and a Baby). We’ve got one chapter drafted and are about halfway through the second; have been holding off on posting til it’s done, but may have to get it out there anyways.

Row 2 -  Write fic for  A2 - “Don’t Leave Me, Please.”  Leaning toward a Steve POV of the post-battle scene where Tony’s just fallen out of the sky.  Something short, but hopefully sweet.

Luchia - for A World of Truth, which has incredible characterization and tackles such a complex point in canon, I love this fic. I'm in awe of this fic. It's so good. There's the one chapter (and you'll know it if you read it) that like knocked me flat on my back. SO good.

Blackkat - for Stormborn, which is the only fic of theirs I've read, but it was so, so cool to read a take on a role swap au in its entirety like that. The characterizations were so on point even though the events were so different - this is one of those stories that I honestly could not put down.

Lyxxie - for everybody knows that you cradle the sun, which lives in my head rent free. I remember being sent a little piece as it was still in progress and I was enraptured. The way Naruto drowns everything out in the flashback, ohhhhh man. Love that

MadeNew - for In Any Lifetime, I looove how this is written. I mean I'm soft for any reincarnation AU but this was everything I wanted in a story, wrapped up and written beautifully!! I loved it.

Rasengan22 - for It Started Over Coffee, which is an old favourite of mine. It's a soft, easy story and I find it very?? comforting?? I have a lot of nostalgia for this one. I think it's my favourite coffee shop AU :')

Kizukatana - for Corporate Secrets, the only A/B/O fic I've ever read and the one that's probably spoiled all other stories like that for me because it was so good haha. It's very much like a soulmate AU, but the worldbuilding in that story was expertly done. I also want to shout out Give Us Our Daily Ramen though, which I also really enjoyed!

Dream smp AU based off a game-like dream I had last night. 

Tubbo is a lonely boy who’s family has recently moved into an old manor. His second week in the dusty home goes sideways when he stumbles upon a cracked mirror, that’s reflection may share his face, but nothing else. 

His mirror twin cast a strange incantation, and the next thing he knows, Tubbo is waking up in an open field, beside the manor he was just in. Except now, it’s new and clean, and looks almost like a different house entirely. 

As he’s about to find out, it’s not just the house that’s different, but the entire world.

Or, basically, Tubbo finds a magic mirror, and gets swapped out with his evil mirror twin, who goes to reek havoc on the human world while Tubbo is left astray in the monster one. 

He’s found by Ranboo, sort of a Frankenstein’s monster deal, who gives him a ‘tutoriel’ of the world, and takes him into the manor.

Which is owned by his creator, Dream, a mysterious scientist, who seems quite nice at first, taking Tubbo in, and claiming to be brother’s with this world’s Tubbo. 

It goes south when Tubbo overhears Dream discussing his less than ethical plans, and is ratted out by Eret, then murdered by Sapnap.

Only to wake back up in bed, three hearts on his wrist, and while two glow red, the other has been gruesomely claimed by dripping black.

Ranboo is waiting for him when he stumbles out of the room. His orders are to capture him, but Tubbo has been kinder to him than anyone ever has.

So he lets him go instead, and Tubbo flees, managing to lose his followers and hide in the forest.

Not sure where he goes from there, but his main goal is to get back home. 

He eventually meets the SBI, where he loses his second life to Techno, in a misunderstanding.

Sees Ranboo again, but he’s Enderboo now, modified by Dream so he has to listen to him-it ends up failing, and Ranboo gets rescued, but it is pretty scary. 

At some point Tubbo begins to notice a bunch of oddities with his mirror self’s existence, and how the stories all conflict with how he came into Dream’s service, and begins to suspect that perhaps something else was at play that corrupted him.

Probably a few different routes for the end, since it’s a game style. The true end being something like the two swap back, and Tubbo wakes up in his own bed, like it had all been a dream, but the mirror ends up moved to his room. Another end being that Tubbo feels uncared for, so he remains in the monster world alongside his counterpart, and they heal together.

RWBY au; Ozma & Salem roleswap (but not curse swap)

Muahaha! Yes! Yessss!

So. First thing is, their backstory has not changed...right up until the deaths of their daughters and the destruction of their kingdom. There is, however, one massive change - namely, it is Salem, not Oz, who got a visit from the Maidens. Salem was a lot harder to reach, but the reminder of her daughters in these flawed and ordinary humans touched something in her, and she couldn’t quite help but care for them, even knowing how quickly they would die. And, through them, she got to meet more humans, not as their goddess and queen, but as just another person. Ozma, however, without any such visits, sank into despair and misery over the course of his next few lifetimes and finally gave up on humanity altogether. Let the gods come and scour the world clean, and let it be over.

Ozma has never attempted to live in harmony with his hosts. They’re short-lived, pitiful things that will be dead between blink and another anyway, so what do their petty identities matter to him? He imposes his own mind and his own will on every host, though he is quite willing to take advantage of any social power or position that his hosts might possess in order to spread dissent and distrust among humanity and bring the Relics together to bring the gods back to put an end to the whole wretched world.

Salem cannot operate the way Oz does. For one thing, she looks...well, very like the Grimm, and Ozma was very quick to spread stories about a monstrous white witch who led humans astray to destroy them and feed them to Grimm. She cannot operate in the open, holding a formal teaching position and leading the world. So, she chooses to work through catspaws, people she thinks she can trust, to handle the public face of power and authority while Salem orchestrates things from behind the scenes. Her existence as ‘Salem’, the immortal, is a dead secret to everyone but her inner circle, including the heads of the four Huntsman Academies, and the Maidens. However, every few years she’ll adopt a human disguise to take up a teaching post at one Academy or other, just to keep things ticking over and get to know the next generation of potential allies. 

The Huntsman Academies were established at the suggestion of an anonymous woman after the assassination of the tyrannical last king of Vale, whose attempts to conquer the whole world were only foiled by an alliance of the other three Kingdoms against him. This was, as you may have guessed, Ozma, trying to unite the Relics by force, as subtler means had been consistently thwarted by Salem for the last few centuries.

Salem still hates the gods for what they did to her, and does not want them coming back to Remnant. She’s not overwhelmingly inclined to unite humanity either, except that it might make their lives that bit better, and at this point basically every person on Remnant is descended in some way from someone Salem once knew and liked, because if you go far enough back that’s just how it goes. She does, however, try to use her powers over the Grimm to keep them away from human settlements as best she can...at least, until people start muttering about why do they need Huntsmen, anyway, which she justifies as being for the greater good of protecting humanity.

I have this F-Ran Opposite AU (fic? fanart?) idea.

Basically, in this AU, every character is the opposite of their canon selves, with altered backstories.

Ranmaru and Chilka will switch places.

Ranmaru's the one propagating wicked souls in the human world. He's referred to as Betelgeuse by everyone, with 'Ranmaru' being his alias. His methods involve finding someone who isn't exactly bad, and then encouraging them to pursue their interests as selfishly as possible, which creates victims whose hearts need saving. His Holy Form here has two cracked, crumbling wings he cannot lift, and no armor; looks a bit like a black version of canon!Chilka's Holy Form outfit, but his' comes with shorts and long sleeves, kind of like a form-fitting romper (shorts are still flared, though).

Meanwhile, Chilka is deployed to the human world with four other fairies to gather Attachment. A lot more spaced-out in this AU due to amnesia, he only ever speaks cryptically like canon!Chilka. Any fairy listening would either go "Uh, okay," "Huh?" or "Yeah, I get it! (Actually doesn't get it)". His Holy Form wears a black sleeveless tunic with a belt. He has no shoulder pads, only elbow pads connected to long gloves, and wears trousers with boots. His hair is in two low pigtails, resembling canon!Chilka's corrupted wings. I'd make him (and I guess the other Lux Fairies in general) wield a bow and arrow.

Ranmaru is a lot more direct than canon!Chilka. When they meet in battles, he doesn't speak in riddles and gives it to Chilka straight that the latter (and the other fairies) are being used, to which Chilka will respond, "And I should trust the words of a villain?" Ranmaru is also Chilka's classmate who no one, including Chilka, notices. He quietly observes him and the other fairies in the school.

Homura and Uruu will also switch places, or at least swap the basic parts of their personalities, as in Homura adopts a more goody two-shoes character while Uruu becomes the bad boy.

Homura's dad is spared in this AU, so Homura grows up to be a lot more cheerful. He's very gung-ho about being a hero here. When he's in the human world, he's constantly on the lookout for people to help. Not a member of any specific club in Et Flan de Muse Academy, but has volunteered his help to every club there. He's not so much a stickler for the rules than just insisting one should always do the right thing, which he is aware depends on the situation and individual.

Uruu never reported his mother's affair. Instead, he gets disillusioned, and learns to secretly break rules to make himself happy (like what his mother did). Upon arriving to the human world, Uruu takes this one chance in his life where he's mostly, if not completely, beyond his father's scrutiny to be freely imperfect, such as skipping classes to make surrealistic paintings and engaging in hedonistic activities, like canon!Takara. His human form looks like young!Cherry from 'SK8 The Infinity'.

Similar to canon, Homura and Uruu don't get along too well, except this time, it's Homura who starts the arguments. However, he nags Uruu out of concern because the latter would do self-destructive "wrong things" in the name of self-fulfillment. Unfortunately, Uruu doesn't appreciate Homura's concern. He'd say, "I don't tell you how to live your life, so don't tell me how to live mine."

On their better days, Uruu flirts with Homura (mainly to tease him) out of curiosity over what his mother saw in her secret lover, whom he does not know is Homura's father; only that he's part of the Ignis Clan. Homura himself is totally unaware of the affair and always gets flustered by Uruu's advances. Over time, though, it slowly becomes less of joke for the both of them.

Jyuka becomes Bar F's guardian, but Takara still has his secret mission.

Jyuka is quite proud to be an Arbor Clan fairy because he knows how important his clan is to the Fairy World. In fact, he's proud to have so much power over other fairies, although he'd never abuse his position or withhold healing someone he didn't like; he'd just lord it over them that they owe him. Since he's aware of how cool he is and very secure about it, Jyuka can consciously act cute. He was given the guardian role to ensure everyone is in tiptop shape to collect Attachment.

Occasionally, Homura strains himself helping too many people with too many things, and Jyuka has to fix him up. When Uruu collapses somewhere in the city after taking too many substances his human body has little tolerance for, Jyuka roller-skates to where Uruu is, cleanses him, and takes him home.

Takara's father was never overthrown. Because of that, Takara was able to succeed his throne and become the leader of the Metallum Clan. The problem is, thanks to his father teaching him not to tolerate sinners, Takara developed a rather tyrannical character. Without his canon experiences, Takara is very serious and cold (Jyuka's the teaser now). Part of the reason he was assigned to this family (the other part being to hunt down Ranmaru) was to make sure no one goes astray, especially Chilka.

Takara rides a pink motorcycle around the city looking for Ranmaru and clients. Whenever Chilka mentions a human he noticed, Takara will find that person to see if they're Ranmaru. They never are.

Since Jyuka's the guardian, he's responsible for providing the fairies a home in the human world and food, so he used the budget allocated for the mission to rent rooms in Et Flan de Muse Academy's dorms. He offered to get Takara a job in the school, like a teacher or janitor, but was turned down. After classes, the boys will find Takara waiting at the front gate, counting money he got from doing odd jobs during the day. The jobs get him contacts, and he uses them to find clients and clues to Ranmaru's whereabouts, and the money pays for his hotel room. The boys have their meals taken care of by the academy, and Takara could easily eat out, but Jyuka makes the latter a lunch bento every day (and he's always experimenting with recipes and bento designs). The bento is delivered by the bat-winged sloth.

The Queen will swap roles with her butler.

The throne is replaced with a leather armchair. In it sits the President of the Fairy World. On his left at all times is his Maid, who's keeps him cool with a big ostrich feather fan, and Bakkun sits on his lap, near to his right hip, eating an assortment of snacks. Bakkun can't play any videogames; he doesn't have fingers to push the buttons.

If I weren't working on another thing right now, I would draw up some designs. However, I am considering writing a fic of this after the series ends.

Hi! Im a small artist and I have an idea for an au. but I'm not sure how to go about developing it, how to write for characters, doing designs, etc. Do you have any tips? I'd appreciate the help!

[cracks knuckles] ok, WELL. the thing you gotta nail about AUs is that like, focus on what you want to CHANGE. a good au should usually have one Major Change that unites all the other minor changes!

using a few aus for example, a roleswap au would be easier because it focuses on one concept- swapping roles of characters. the plot is easy to write because it would follow a lot of the same beats 

now, a bit more *complex* of an au like y2kvr breaks away from the plot, because of its main concept, which is just “hlvrai but it’s late-90s early-2000s internet”, so you need to figure out both scenery and time changes, as well as changes in characters’ motivations, AND come up w a plot because the black mesa journey is a bit lost in translation

a more abstract au like the eternal stream au (not my au! go read something new on ao3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/24511300/chapters/59171815 ) comes to mind for the final level of like, complexity i guess? because the major change in the au isnt really a theme or a swap, its “the player gets trapped in the game”, and many of the changes come about BECAUSE of the player- the ais being invented by the player, benrey being another human, old chat bots, news reporters... it SEEMS scattered and sporatic but the reader can follow the plot because it all ties back to the one major change of the player being stuck in the game 

so like, i guess thats my first tip? like, decide what major change you want to focus around. then, for designs, try n play around a little! make em fit the theme, and try to make em POP- i explicitly switched a lot of y2k benrey’s lights and darks around so that he was instantly recognizable as an AU benrey, so you never know what good some straight-up appearance changes might do you 

as for writing characters, i recommend revisiting the source and making your own conclusions! for something like hlvrai, you really need to draw your own conclusions when it comes to the characters- you’ll be able to twist their characterization around once you get in their “muse”, so to speak- if you see benrey as a victim who was led astray by skeletons, then you write him as that in your au, if you see him as a fun-loving antagonist who just wants to cause problems, then that’s a characterization too! 

in general, just... have fun, dont be afraid to get wild! people out there will love what you do i guarantee it

LiS2 Fanfiction recommendation list - updated

I updated the ff list I made a few months ago. As before, if anyone has any suggestions to add, I’m all ears. I divided the stories into three categories (Post-ending, AUs and Missing Moments) and all the ffs on this list are either completed or still actively updated.

POST-ENDING

Blood Brothers: To Puerto Lobos - And Beyond! by SerratedCucumber, in progress. It starts as the brothers break into Mexico and follows them as they try to build a life for themselves. I swear that I hear Gonzalo and Roman every time that Sean or Daniel say something: the dialogue is that good. 11,000 words for now.

Lone Wolf: The One You Feed by zeldanerdster, in progress. This work follows the "Lone Wolf" path immediately after events unfold at the border. Following that, it will chronicle Daniel's experiences for as far as they take him in an effort to reconcile the various open-ended resolutions of Life is Strange 2. Because LW didn’t break our hearts enough. 20,500 words for now. Lone Superwolf by Dreamprism, in progress. The ff begins with Sean’s death at the border and aims to show how Daniel got from the car to the “six years later” scene. The fanfic is written from the perspective of Daniel Diaz, similar to how Sean shares his internal thoughts with the player throughout Life is Strange 2. 17,000 words for now.

Parting Ways: After by koldtbold, one-shot. Sean gets to Mexico, Daniel doesn’t. Sean has a lot to do and think about. What I love about this story is that there’s much bitter and little sweet, but like in the game there’s an undercurrent of optimism, a feeling that tomorrow can still turn into a better day. 6,000 words. When There’s Nowhere Else to Run, by Autumnyte, in progress. It begins right after Daniel yeets himself from the car and follows Sean as he tries to build a life for himself in Puerto Lobos. I told Autumnyte that this story feels like a blanket: it’s warm and comfortable. No matter what issues Sean has to deal with, there is a pervasive undertone of "tomorrow will be better" that I think really captures the spirit of the game. He is done running, and he can now start to look to the future with hope. 31,000 words for now.

Redemption:

The Bravest Wolf in the World by RoodAwakening, 2 chapters left. Ask anyone for reading suggestions, and they’ll inevitably point you to this story, for a reason. Sean finds out he can use his sketches to time-travel, much like Max did with her photos, prevents Esteban’s death, and has to deal with the consequences as he tries to navigate the new life he made for himself. Wonderful characters, a realistic depiction of trauma, and golden dialogue. I love this Sean, I love the people in his life, I love his interactions with all the characters. 160,000 words (!) for now. A Howl in the Night by Bracco, one-shot. Sean is in prison, and Daniel is free: it’s everything that Sean had wanted when he surrendered. That means he can be happy… right? 28,500 words. Tomorrow's Horizon by AlariOdonell, in progress. A mysterious stranger recruits a post-bay Max Caulfield with the promise to bring Chloe back to life and to right a few wrongs along the way, like those suffered by two brothers. I am very partial to this story because it ticks every box in my list of narrative kinks: a well-written OC, an incoming threat, superpowers, misfits teaming up, IC characters, action and fuzzy feelings... 52,000 words for now, updated bi-weekly. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want by DarkJaden825698, one-shot. After his sentence, Sean reconnects with some old friends and says some things he didn't get to say when he had the chance. This story is a warm, fuzzy thing where everything goes well for a change. And All These Empty Streets by Riona, one-shot. After the apocalypse, Sean and Daniel have a run-in with Joel and Ellie from TLOU. I think that this is the story that made me realize how I love Sean and Daniel so much that I’m willing to read the weirdest AUs and crossovers so long. It flows really well and it feels natural. 2,000 words.

Riona has written a lot of stories that start from an unexpected premise and draw a little vignette. They are all different from each other and I loved them all. Check out her AO3 profile! Can you give me a hint by Idnis, completed. Teenage Daniel/Chris. If you like “mutual pining” and “dumb idiots in love”, this story will make your day. It’s just... fluffy and sweet and innocent, a tiny bit of teenage drama that Daniel and Chris deserve after everything they’ve been through. 22,500 words. Closer to the Heart by darkjaden825698, in progress. After the shooting, Sean waits for the police to arrive. He’s cleared of all charges and sent to live to Beaver Creek, where he must come to terms with what happened and rebuild a life for himself. It draws inspiration from *Your Name*: Max and Sean begin swapping bodies at random. If the premise doesn’t turn you away, it’s a beautiful bittersweet story about two people trying to help each other while their own worlds are falling apart. 11,000 words. Faithless by HollowK, in progress. Six years after the failed heist, Sean wakes up from his coma and has a brother to find. Exactly: oof. 6,500 words for now. I Took Both Roads, series by owlmug. AU where Esteban isn’t shot. Sean/Finn (with some Sean/Cassidy in the first story). It’s a coming of age story, and I really loved how the author mirrored some situations that are found in the game by giving them a new twist. I won’t lie, these stories hurt, because they made me think about what could have been. The characters are spot on, and the interactions of the Diaz family are golden. Bonus points for having Sean behave like a teenage brat at times, because the boy deserved to have temper tantrums and getting into fights with Esteban over stupid stuff. There are also a lot of beautiful images across the series, a lot of lines that feel raw and powerful, and a lot of healing. At times it’s like having a heart-to-heart with the author. Sometimes I felt that the sex scenes were too long, and some of them I found unnecessary, but that’s just my personal taste. I really liked all the four stories, but the last one is my favourite for sure because it follows Esteban’s point of view and it’s *chef’s kiss*.

Another High School AU, another wonderful coming of age story for Sean. I wish I could make it justice without repeating everything I said about owlmug’s series: spot-on characterization, a beautiful narrative about growing up and finding one’s way, wonderful imagery. It’s the story of what Sean deserved to have, and one of my favorite ever. 28,000 words.

MISSING MOMENTS

A Night With Misty Mice by That_one_internet_lover, completed. It follows Sean and Lyla’s concert night that is mentioned in his phone chat in ep.1. It’s the first fanfiction I read after my endgame heartbreak: it gave me all the happy Sean I wanted, and even a bit more. The dynamic between him and Lyla is exactly what I pictured from their interactions in the game, put into words by someone who knows what they’re doing. 10,000 words. Astray by Riona, one-shot. Daniel leaves Sean behind after the events of Wastelands. It’s probably more of an AU than a Missing Moment, since it was written before Faith came out and so it’s not entirely canon-compliant, but it’s still a very good window on Daniel’s state of mind after the heist. I’m eternally grateful to Riona for filling some of the gaps that the game left in the development of these wonderful characters. 1,500 words.  Fire and Floods by Riona, one-shot. Sean and Daniel go on the run, and this fic covers the first day of their journey. A spot-on dissection of Sean’s feelings after the shooting. 1,500 words. life is strange 2 poems by Spotsuns, an ongoing collection of one-shots. These stories have all the oooffness of the game. The stories in here hurt. In the good way, but they hurt nonetheless. Beautiful character studies, and some heavy-duty, post-ending feel unpacking. 11,000 words. Never Stop Shining by CorazonDesnudo, in progress. During his stay in Away, Sean receives a letter from Finn with an offer to help him and Daniel cross the border. It’s a chance to come to terms with a lot of things he didn’t really process before. 11,000 words for now. Torchbearers by Riona. Ep.1’s Sean and Daniel run into Max and Chloe among the ruins of Arcadia Bay. I can definitely see this story being a moment of quiet in the game. 2,600 words. What Remains of the Diaz Family by That_one_internet_lover, completed. Lyla sneaks into the Diaz household after the brothers have disappeared. Heartbreaking oofness ensues as Lyla walks through their memories and faces her own pain. 6500 words.
