i read a lot of fantasy novels (like, a LOT a lot) and my current read is the pomegranate gate by ariel kaplan, a portal fantasy novel inspired by jewish myths and history, so when i say that it's one of the most fresh and unique books i've read in awhile and i genuinely have no idea where i think the characters and story will go next, that's one of the highest book compliments i can give

#there are definitely some familiar elements like portals to other worlds and a changeling-ish situation #but as for the overall world and myths and characters am i just happy to see where it goes #one of the pov characters is a woman who turns her arm into a sword decapitates her enemies and turns their heads into apples!!! #truly can't get more unique than that kind of stuff #i am only halfway through this book but i am becoming high key obsessed with it #pie says stuff #the pomegranate gate #ariel kaplan #pie reads books

i transcribed Zayne's ST story for meta purposes and thought I would put the transcription here for others to have it if they haven't unlocked it yet/to have it more accessible than it is in game

everything with "Foreseer:" is Zayne speaking directly, anything not attributed is the poem. i did it this way to make it easier to read the poem on its own, since that's what i hope to analyze in the future <3

Foreseer: Shift your gaze elsewhere. Foreseer: Your expression shall not even earn an ounce of my pity. Foreseer: Though it seems a night in the throne room was not enough. Foreseer: Perhaps you desire to be frozen with the wall as your paltry confessional? [Ice SFX] Foreseer: Better to yield now than later. [Page turning SFX] Foreseer: Could you still be interested in what I’m currently reading? Foreseer: …Certainly, ’tis a poem related to Astra. Its descriptions suit you. Foreseer: Would you like to hear it? - A great distance beyond, …. north of ice and snow, Atop the Divine Mountain, When Light pierces through howling blizzards, The divine sing of Destiny’s crest My Emissary devout, Will thou be lost in these celestial halls? My favorite cryptid has to be 'The Great Lake Monster' of Östersund, Sweden. In Swedish it's called 'Storsjöodjuret' and is told to live in the lake Storsjön. Storsjöodjuret could very easily be compared to the Loch Ness Monster, some people joke that they are the same creature with a passageway between Sweden and Scotland. The monster was treated the same way as witches, giants and other evil spirits were back in the day, it was something you prayed for wouldn't catch in your fishing nets, and you told the children to not play in the water in fear that it would take them (I may have made that part up, I don't know that much about his past). But nowadays he's the towns mascot, he has multiple children's books and songs about him, he has fun statues around town you can play on, and he participates in the town events as a suit (I've actually been in one during a charity event for like 20 minutes, those things are warm and very hard to move in)!

Aura shall find that many people in her mother's domain are willing to tell her about the great and terrible pumpkin beast! Many will regale her with tales of the great conflict between her mother and this creature, for it was very big and important and unknown to Aura, the villagers have probably learned to tell every story about Ray'je in this way, no matter how unremarkable the truth actually is.

But hey, that's how myths are made!

Stories say that one day, after the great snuggly herds arrived upon the island, and Ray'je had decided to let them be, a great and terrible beast appeared! It was orange and filled with diligence the likes of which no man or oni had ever seen! Few know what woke the beast or brought it to these shores, but once it was here, seemingly none could stop it!

Indeed, the great and powerful Ray'je attempted to defeat the beast, using all her might and cunning! First, attempting to extract tribute from it, and then attempting to make it obey her. But the great and terrible pumpkin beast would not be defeated! Seemingly, all of her might and terror was helpless before the great and terrible creature, who began to dig up her island wherever it went, filling it with endless produce! And then, just when the great Ray'je felt she had found a way to beat it, it began bequeathing her so much alcohol that she almost began to resent it!

But the great and powerful Ray'je, now faced with a foe greater than any other, tried a new tactic, offered to her by the great snuggle herd that had come. She would tell the great pumpkin beast to go elsewhere, and there it would bestow its great and terrible bounty upon the populaces that displeased her, while also not threatening her personally!

Thus did she declare victory! But the great and terrible pumpkin beast has not been vanquished! None dare oppose it, nor attempt to stop it! Even the great Ray'je can merely redirect it's energies, lest it entirely overtake the islands and perhaps the whole of the world!

...

Anyway, everyone tells her that the great and terrible pumpkin beast lies off on one side of the island these days, in a great field filled with giant produce. Can't miss it.

Has fam!Bill ever landed on a talk show or got interviewed, or has someone atleast made a movie/series/novel about him or his life with dipper?

I'd think that Dipper tries to keep Bill out of the spotlight. Partly so it doesn't feed his enormous ego any further - and partly so Bill doesn't try starting a cult. For like, the millionth time. He's a little too persuasive when he gets public attention.

There also exists a case - probably many decades along, once Dipper's out of his first life - where there is a movie/series/novel.... about Dipper.

Of course Bill's there. You can hardly have a story about Dipper Pines without at least vaguely addressing the demonic power subject - but in this one, Bill's cast as sort of a demonic sidekick. Unable to tempt the righteous Dipper Pines from his heroic cause. Bumbling, and awkward.

Used for comedic effect.

I had a friend come to visit last week, and one evening as we sat around drawing together we decided to both draw that scene where Pippin finds Merry after the battle.  I’ve drawn the scene before but not in a while and I’ve changed the design for both the characters.  And even though I am still getting over that art block from this year I had fun.  (Also that Merry-with-braids post has been doing well lately so I decided maybe I should finish off today’s art dump with this one since he has braids here as well.)

I have not engaged with any MCU media in a VERY long time, so correct me if I'm wrong, but does anyone else sometimes think about how Norse mythology is the only mythology/religious sect that is proven to exist in this universe. It's objectively interesting to ME at least, because presumably everyone on earth was chilling and relaxing and then suddenly the Nordic god, Loki, touches down and starts causing alien havoc in New York.

Like, would that not cause some kind of weird religious upset, to just have an actual REAL Scandinavian god be real, amongst the rest of his pantheon? Like yeah, Thor is a superhero or whatever, but does anyone ever just be like "That's the actual Norse Thor and Loki. The god's from Scandinavian folklore. They are the only gods to be proven real." And like, yes, the MCU gets most if not all of their mythology incorrect, but it's just weird to me how presumably other religions still manage to exist despite Loki and Thor and Odin just fucking being there.

Basically this post was created because I really really really wanted there to be like. A Loki shrine or worshipper or something in the new Loki season because you know. He's a god. He would have worshippers. People who pray to him and all that stuff, and I'm disappointed there weren't any.
