random question but erwin gives Lana stan vibes and same lolz but then i wondered what music your characters from strangerville story all listen to?
First off I am so happy to answer this question for you!! Thank you for asking! I love love love music and love this question!
Tumblr media
That being said, before I begin I want you to know that I'm so sorry to burst a personal headcanon you've made about my version of Erwin Pries...but he has probably never heard a Lana Del Rey song in his entire life lmfao (I'm assuming that's who you're talking about). But Erwin is an EA premade, so if your Erwin is a Lana Del Rey stan I love that for you and that's valid!!! My Erwin just isn't haha (but his sister Maggie would like her music!) Anyway!!!
Very long response below the cut! ↓
Erwin mostly listens to older music: he loves music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and listens to everything on vinyl or cassette (he is very passionate about the preservation of physical media, he is the Paranoid ass king after all). His favorites are Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, David Bowie, Abba, Neil Diamond, Jim Croce, Billy Joel, John Denver, James Taylor, Elton John, The Mamas and Papas, Johnny Cash, and so on. He also has a not-so-secret love for musicals and claims that the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack is one of the best pieces of composition to ever exist (he also likes Godspell, Rent, Xanadu, and many more) Get him drunk enough and he will talk about how Mamma Mia is "Literally a transcendent work of art with whimsy and heartbreak and joy and a tender ass storyline at the heart that quite literally fucks so hard. Fucking Meryl Streep. Fuck!" Direct quote. That man hardly listens to anything post-1990, with the exception of "Queen Florence Welch" (Florence and the Machine).
Zoe appreciates all kinds of music, but has a deep love for the soul music that she heard around the house growing up. She likes music with feeling and depth, and the lyrics are most important to her but if the song isn't deep, it better have a good beat that she can dance to! Her personal favorite artists include Otis Reading, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Dionne Warwick, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Rhianna, Lauryn Hill, The Temptations, Roberta Flack, Janelle Monáe, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and so on!
Beckett's looks deceive him because he loves pop music. He is listening to the current hits, think Billboard 100s exclusively lol. He might have listened to a few rock or rap songs to get "pumped up" back in his football days, but for the most part he is always listening to pop - he even likes boybands, but won't willingly admit that lmao. He's a Swiftie through and through, and he will fight for her honor on any Twitter thread or in-person discussion. He also has a love for 90s and early 2000s country artists like Shania Twain, Alison Krauss, Lee Ann Womack, and The Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks) because of cleanin' and cookin' Sundays with his momma <3
Junia doesn't care about music that much! She doesn't have any favorite artists, she's never even bought a CD and probably couldn't tell you 5 bands or artists off the top of her head. She's one of those people who will listen to anything that "has a good beat" while she's working out, and it doesn't even have to have words. She's listening to music more for background noise as opposed to being passionate about it or seeking it out.
Anwar listens to alternative music mostly! Bands like the 1975, The Strokes, Paramore, The Clash, Fall Out Boy, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, The Neighborhood, and so on. He definitely went through a pop-punk, Hot Topic, combo of emo and scene phase in his teen years in the 2000s. (Iykyk, if you don't... look it up lmao. It was a time to be alive.) If they could play at Warped Tour, he listens to them lmao. But he's cool with most pop or radio music, he's not like a music snob or anything.
Tashia listens to pretty much everything, but she also loves metal music. Idk if you've seen the Pixar/Disney movie "Monster's University" but there's a scene in there where the mom of one of the main characters drops them off at Monsters Inc. and she's like "I'll just be listening to my tunes until you get back" in like the sweetest voice and then as she's rolling up the windows you can hear metal music blasting through the speakers and she's just like... calmly vibing like she's listening to elevator music or smooth jazz lmfao. It's very funny. That's how I imagine Tashia's music taste to be and it concerns everyone around her <3

PRESS PLAY!
shower guy is a playlist of some of the songs that duri tends to sing when he’s in the shower. oddly enough, he always finds himself singing songs that stem from the genre of r&b and hip-hop from the 90s and early 2000s from the western market, something that he really enjoys and have showcased in the past. when duri was younger and had managed to discover the said genres, his life was changed in a sense, as silly as that may sound. the genre, as well as the artists, are one of the reasons as to why duri had changed his dream to being an idol, rather than a traditional vocalist. apart from idol music and ballads, he tends to lean towards r&b and hip-hop as genres that he listens to, especially since he’s been a fan since he was much younger and continues to be a fan to this day. plus, there’s really just something about going around, singing these songs, especially for his mini concerts in the shower.

Pupi Poisson interview
Tumblr media
📸 by mista
To the list of translated stuff from the DRES girls we have the guest segment in the sewing show, hugaceo's interview, supremme's and now pupi's (same book supremme's comes from it's an interview by valeria vega in the book Travesti by mista studio)
What are the fundamental qualities that a good drag queen must have?
The most important quality of a drag queen is to never stay still [/ never not know what to do]. You can go on a show and try to do a song and maybe the song won't play hard enough [for you to hear/do your number] or it might be the wrong track, maybe you don't know the song at all but you can't do nothing. And when the song is over you have to know how to take advantage of what's around you. Always bring something to the table, as an indulgence. If you don't know how to improvise, no matter how skinny and well dressed you are, you won't get the audience to remember you.
You're comedy queen status caracterizes you. Who have been your referents in that respect?
I started in the theatre, alongside many actors and actresses from Madrid. On the comedy side I loved Martes y 13, so I may have many things in common with them. I also like Lina Morgan a lot, both her shows and her movies. You go around picking a little bit of everything and I am very into absurdist humor. I also loved Ángel Garó, when he played Juan de la Cosa in Un, Dos, Tres. I also come from Los Morancos and the humor of the 80s and 90s I grew on. That's all I have sucked in... Besides all the other kind of sucking I've done! [/j]
What has changed from the Pupi of the beginning of her career till now?
Her perspective and position. In the beginning you're crazier, without knowing what you're doing or where are you going so you can do whatever you want however you want. I did not know how to do my makeup, although maybe there's people that would say I still don't know how to do that, but well girl, I don't tell you how to do things in your own house. Now I'm aware that I have a trayectory, built little by little in venues all over Spain. I know I've been part of the night of many people and being part of the tv show suddenly makes you more important, but I don't believe I did anything different on the show nor more wonderful. I did what I've always done, what they've let me do and what they've wanted to share but it's true that being on the show establishes you [lit. It'd be anoint you but that makes little sense in English] but what got me to where I am is the work I've been doing for years.
You have more nights under your belt than a trash truck, I hope you'll be able to tell me what is the hardest audience to win over
The one that is waiting to say "what a load of crap" from the beginning, bitter people of which there's many and you can find it as well during the day, on the bank or the supermarket. People that think everything is inconvenient, a problem or a burden. That's a very complicated audience to face because they only see the negative.
This profession is tremendously linked to vocation, when did the passion for drag come to you?
As I said, I came from the theatre. And since I was a kid I liked to watch a lot of series and I'd play pretend with my toys, I also made puppets. Everything focused on acting, but I started on hen/stag parties, in which I'd play a character, for example a mean or gay waiter and while they had dinner I'd play impromptu prank on them. Drag performers started to come to those parties and I realized it was the same, a performance in which the magic of a pop star (or whatever vibe you want to give it, maybe Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston or Kylie Minogue) is added. I thought it was the best because I could perform and on top of that I could be a stunning woman, that's where my interest started, so I could imitate my favorite singers and being able to put myself on their shoes. Plus I could combine it with music which is something I love and I'm now releasing my own songs.
Is Pupi then a drag performer whose dreams came true?
I think so. I think Pupi has made many of her dreams come true or more accurately, thanks to Pupi, Alberto has made many of his dreams come true, like releasing songs and making music for example which is something I've always wanted to do and thanks to having a persona I've been able to break away from certain shyness and reach that facet of myself. I'd like to do cinema, but maybe not as Pupi, but as a dramatic actor. I wouldn't like to be always a comedic character or to be always Pupi. But not because I'd like to retire her, I'd like to alternate between her and other roles but we live in a country whose situation makes it difficult and you get typecast. Look at Paco Leon, who is forever Luisma and people always want to see him like that and it's what they ask for, that comedic character, and they don't risk seeing him show a different register. I'd like to be able to make the change and that Alberto got to be more than just Pupi.
What advice do you remember being given and what advice would you give to new sisters?
I don't remember being given one in particular but I do want to mention auntie Andonequi, which was one of the few left of the old school, she would play Isabel Pantoja or Rocío Jurado, and who was one of the people that helped memost and died a couple of years ago. What I always noticed from her is that she'd never judge you, while now many coworkers like to judge the others, for everything, because they are pretty, ugly, fat, because they aren't wearing the best clothes or don't know how to give a live show and it's created this environment I'm which some of the pretty ones want to make the others feel ugly because deep down they lack confidence and are afraid that the other ones will take their jobs from them. Andonegui was the complete opposite, she'd always listen and support you. She could see in you the potential to be an entertainer. You don't need to be the prettiest, the best dressed or the tallest, all you need is to keep the audience entertained so to the new ones I say don't listen to the other ones, that only thing they'll tell you is that you can't do it.
Tell us of an unforgettable night...
I've been acting for fourteen, almost fifteen years so talking about only one night is very hard, girl you're making this difficult! [/lh] but look there was this one time in Valencia some guys organized a pride event with a company and made a giant party that reunited a bunch of artists, there was Roser from the Pop Stars, Natalia from OT, Satin Greco, Chumina Power, Melody, Lara Sojén, [local] girls from Valencia and I'm sure I'm forgetting many more. Oh! Sofia Cristo was also there. Well, as I was saying, sharing that night with all of those people was wonderful, I had lots of fun. I was the hostess of the event and it was a night surrounded by people I admire but all of us were equals. That was unforgettable.
And a night you'd like to forget?
There's been times I've gotten myself in trouble or I've gotten myself in events that made me say "Good lord, why did I come here". There's this one in Torrevieja, in a venue owned by a guy that was in Big Brother in which everything was so seedy, there were very few people and then they took me to a hostel where a dude sleeping in a mattress got up to open the door for me and yeah there's been more than a few nights in which I've end up in sordid places and with bad company. There was another night in Seville in which i forgot to pack a wig so I had to paint my entire head black and draw on some curls with glitter ala Liza Minnelli. People were giving me resting murder face because they couldn't understand why wasn't I wearing a wig and there was a truly weird atmosphere but in the end those nights become anecdotes and you can always integrate them on a show so I'd rather not forget any.
After your tv appearance, what is the audience that surprised you the most?
It's hard to surprise me but I see many children and many older ladies. There's women in their 50s that go to the shows and they tell you that you've opened their eyes to a whole new world, to other possibilities. Maybe they liked Raphael and female popular folk singers but have now discovered other things that they think are fun and beautiful. Even if there's people now that say that drag is a way to denigrate women, I don't know where they get that, because it all comes from gay men admiring women and wanting to imitate singers or actresses. Definitely children and older ladies is the one that has surprised me most. Even if there's a small percentage of those heterosexual husbands of the girls that come along and suddenly they are enjoying more than their women and they know how to give you a compliment without that morbid ghoulishness of years before that has disappeared, there's a respect and admiration from them.
note: there was a rape joke in one of the answers i took the administrative decision to not translate bc it's tasteless no matter the language but it did feel unfair to not say it was there to begin with to people reading this.

DMX's EXODUS Album Release or Let My People Go, Aaliyah and Prince of Egypt
Friday May 28th 5.28.21 148th day/ 217 remains Waning Gibbous Illumination 94%/ 6% Darkness
Today is the release of EXODUS or rather DM-Xodus. 13 tracks of messages he wanted to convey. At least we think it's the way he wanted it. I sampled it today and plan on purchasing a physical copy of EXODUS. Notice DMX's tattoo of Exodus 1:7 on his NECK above his collar bone-Clavicle (Keys).
Tumblr media
Today is meaningful for this release is 3 days after George Floyd 1st memorial of his neck being kneed by ExOfficer Shauvin, 2 days after Lunar Eclipse, and Historical Story of the Real Exodus which is part of the Passover season, Pentecost/Shavuot. It is 9 weeks since Passover began, 7 weeks from DMX's passing on Friday, April 9th (99th day).
Exodus basically means-Get Out.
Tumblr media
So if we place it on top of the Biblical EXODUS when Moses is said to have asked Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh, to "Let his People Go" and got them out, later facilitation 10 plagues, splitting the Red Sea, and bringing the 10 Commandments down from the Mountain of Sinai/ Horeb, it's timed perfectly. Since DMX collapsed on Good Friday during Passover, he is now part of this story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is shocking is that while I was writing this, a strange connection popped up. I watched a famous movie about Moses and the Exodus, called "The Prince of Egypt" just yesterday and I knew there was a connection with DMX album release. But guess what...Lakia Jai TV happened to do a reaction today and the movie was released on December 18th, DMX's Birthday....
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just to go even more deep. Let's bring Aaliyah to the table. Aaliyah and her family where known friends with Earl Simmons,DMX. And in this case both related to Ancient Egypt. For remember Aaliyah played Queen Akasha of Egypt in 2002 "Queen of the Damned" Her name is also related to the Exodus story and the "Hebrews" that left Egypt to find their own "Promised Land" which became Israel after 40 years wandering in the "wilderness." Israel is the place the "Hebrews" want to return, but the Palestinians resided for centuries. Their religious "right of return" is called Aaliyah. Look it up. I'm not making this up...Link to our videos about it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UofCmFci-U4 @3:14.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was an 11 day war in just days ago in the Holy Land over the Exodus/ Exile and Aaliyah. We are indeed living in critical times...And it's just beginning.
The Hebrew word for Letting Go is Selah. Well as a people who have been enslaved in this Land of called America for the 400 years Kanye spoke of, we have not been set free like Moses did. We never made an Exodus in the same sense of the word. They say Harriet Tubman moved people far away to freedom and called her Mama Moses. They want to put her on a 20 dollar bill. A counterfeit 20 is what George FLoyd was pinned down and lost his life for.
Taking the knee to a whole 'nother interpretation than (8/26/ 2016) Colin Kapernick or even Tee Bow modeled at NFL games. Don't forget Colin was the Aaliyah's brother in Romeo Must Die who wanted to Run with the Show and said Magic is about to happen. So everything Goes around and around in full circles.
Tumblr media
Another strange occurrence today was when I re- watched DaVinci Code... I can't seem to wonder if the phrase... So Dark the Con of Man is referring to DARK MAN X =DMX. This saying, according to the movie, has to do with a Christian secret society called the Priory of Zion. They are said to have the secret of God's Power. The movie shows that Jesus's blood line, Sangreal, Holy Grail is beneath the rose and is not a physical cup but people. What is the Con?
In the Movie that Aaliyah sang the theme song and was nominated for an American Academy Award, Anastasia, the "Con Artist" sang about "The Greatest Con in history." in the song HAVE YOU HEARD the Rumor...Anastasia means she will RIse AGAIN...Resurrection. Aaliyah rose again as Queen Akasha and Anastasia in Journey to the Past. Resurrection Sunday, Easter, after Good Friday when DMX "OD" literally Died and was revived.
What is the CON? ExCON. Convict. So Dark the Convict of Man. INstead of Madonna on the Rocks, we'll have to add "vict." convictions of man. Religious convictions have killed millions of people through the ages. People killing in the name of "GOD" is pretty dark. The Crusades was a war last millennia to protect the Holy Land from the Dark Men called Moor/Muslims. The movie says that it was actually a cover up of the Priory militia called the Knights Templar, for the Catholic Church to retrieve treasures and land. So many Palestians had to make Exodus/Exile and become refugees in other lands, just like now.
Just trying to put 3 and 2 together to figure this out. All I can say is DMX, Aaliyah, and let's add Whitney Houston and Ofrah Haza to the list of Exodus rituals for the Dark Con of Man. Whitney sang a duet with Mariah Carey in the Prince of Egypt movie theme song... And the enchanting voice of Yemenis Israeli Ofrah also passed mysteriously and suddenly of AIDS after the release of the movie. Her husband never got HIV, yet they said she had it unknowingly.

I know it's been a few weeks since your post about an LGBT playlist, but there's an article on the NPR website from 2018 called "Queen Guitarist Brian May On Writing Anthems And Studying Astrophysics" where Brian confirms that Freddie was gay, identified as gay, and called himself gay. This is just something I'm very passionate about, I'm sorry. There are other sources for these claims too.
I went to the NPR site and found the interview, and you’re correct. Here’s the relevant part of the interview between Teri Gross & Brian May:
GROSS: But let me just ask you the question. Freddie Mercury was either gay or bisexual. I'm not sure how he would have described himself. But he didn't really talk about that.
MAY: He would have said, I'm gay as a daffodil, darling (laughter).
GROSS: Would he have said that?
MAY: He did say that.
GROSS: Would he have said that in public?
MAY: He did say that in public. Freddie was not one to mince his words.
Teri Gross is an excellent interviewer and is typically well prepared. If Teri was unsure, then I don’t feel bad that I also got it wrong. There are newspaper articles and even an obituary which say he was bisexual, that’s what I was relying on, but Brian May is a better source.
I went back to my queer playlist and changed the reference of Freddie being bisexual to being gay when I talked about Somebody to Love, and for Don’t Stop Me Now I still included that the song changes the gender of the love interests but removed saying it could be because Freddie was bi.
Oh, and if anyone is interested, I added 14 more songs to the list (Respect : Aretha Franklin; Thank You for Being a Friend (theme song from Golden Girls) : Cynthia Fee; So Emotional : Whitney Houston; I’m too Sexy : Right Said Fred; Emotion : Mariah Carey; Hero : Mariah Carey; Gay Bar : Electric Six; Toxic :Britney Spears; Just Dance : Lady Gaga; Starships : Nikki Minaj; All Night : Icona Pop; Work Bitch : Britney Spears; Body was Made : Ezra Furman; High Hopes : Panic! At the Disco)
Thanks for keeping me accurate!

Demi🤦🤦🤦*sighs*
Just when I think she's okay, something happens. For those who doesn't know, someone found a finsta, and they found out that it was Demi's personal account, okay, whatever. Looking into it, they found a few pictures that it was Demi basically shading and bad mouthing Selena, and after that, the whole profile was deleted it, which it's kinda fishy. And like if this is Demi, i just wanna say it, it's a bad thing to do, it's childish. Whoever, why people shame some people for being shady, but they love when other people are shady? When Beyonce throws shady to other person she's the queen (which she is), but when Demi does it... She's a bitch. You can't pick and choose, or you like when people are shady or you don't, and people are acting like the whole profile was for that, it was a personal profile that she said things that she wouldn't on media, because she knows the repercussion. Just please be coherent.
That being said, I do agree that if was a shitty thing that she was doing, if you want to be more shady, be more shady, say to the media, fuck the people, show your true colours. Don't go on hiding, this is childish. She always say that she doesn't want to be a fake person, she wants to be 100% to the people... Bitch then be 100%. Yeah spread positivity, spread love, but it is okay to be shady once in a while, it's normal. Beyonce do this, Mariah Carey does this, Madonna does this, Barbra Streisand does this, Patti Lupone does this Whitney Houston used to do this. They all talk about love and acceptance, but they still shady as fuck. We are all shady, we all talk bad about someone sometimes, but be upfront about it... This is so shitty of her, not the bad mouthing, the fakeness, the childish behaviour, the fact that Demi rarely or never own up about her own shitty behaviours. Just be honest about it, for once. This is getting boring and tiring

“Missy Elliott, the creative mastermind who has written hit songs for a number of female acts and created camaraderie among women in the music industry for more than two decades, felt the love back from her musical sisters as she became the first female rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Queen Latifah, a Grammy, Emmy and Golden Globe winner, inducted Elliott with kind words as she paid homage to their long-lasting friendship. And even former first lady Michelle Obama took her turn to say how much of a Missy Elliott fan she is.
”Missy, I want to thank you for all of your trailblazing ways,” Obama said in a taped video that aired during the event. “Thank you not for just sharing your gift with the world, but for being an advocate for so many people out there, especially young girls who are still figuring out how to make their voices heard.”
It all brought Elliott to tears: Near the end of her 10-minute speech, the Grammy winner broke down after telling funny and deep stories about how her creative mind worked as a child.
”I am thankful,” she said, pausing for a few seconds.
Elliott is just the third rapper to enter into the Songwriters Hall, following Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri’s inductions in 2017 and 2018, respectively. While she’s written her own hit songs — from “Get Ur Freak On” to “Work It” to “Lose Control” — Elliott has also lent her writing skills to others — specifically girl groups and pop and R&B soloists, including the late icon Aaliyah, Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Monica, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Ariana Grande, Destiny’s Child, Fantasia, Jazmine Sullivan, SWV, Total, 702, Mya, Tweet and others.”

Kelly Price
Tumblr media
Kelly Cherelle Price (born April 4, 1973) is an American R&B and gospel singer and songwriter.
Life and music career
Price was born in Queens, New York, and began singing in church as a toddler. Her first professional engagement was with George Michael at Madison Square Garden in January 1992. During rehearsals for the Grammy Awards, Price was overheard singing in the rehearsal hall while everyone else was on a meal break by Mariah Carey. Price was later introduced to Carey's husband, Sony Columbia's then CEO Tommy Mottola. She made a name for herself as a backing and guest vocalist, appearing on a number of hit singles such as Mariah Carey's "Fantasy", The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Mo Money Mo Problems", Mase's Feel So Good, and Whitney Houston's "Heartbreak Hotel". She has sung background vocals for Faith Evans, Aretha Franklin, Brian McKnight, SWV and R. Kelly.
Price released her debut album, Soul of a Woman, in 1998 on Island Records, which contained the hit single "Friend of Mine". A remix of the song, also included on the album, features R. Kelly and Ronald Isley. In the remix, Isley takes on the fictional role of the singer-protagonist's Godfather ("Mr. Biggs"), taking her husband (R. Kelly) to task for cheating on her with her best friend. The "Friend of Mine" LP version and the remix both charted as No. 1 hits on the U.S. R&B chart and made history by doing so with no music video to support the song.
She released her second album, Mirror Mirror, in 2000 on the Def Soul imprint of Def Jam Records; Island and Def Jam had merged in 1999, with Price and labelmates Dru Hill being reassigned to Def Soul. Mirror Mirror featured the singles "You Should've Told Me" and the Grammy Award nominated "As We Lay", a cover of Shirley Murdock's 1986 hit. A remix of "Love Sets You Free" was issued a single in 2000, produced by Teddy Riley and starring a number of fellow R&B performers. Price was featured in the 2003 film, Bringing Down the House, performing a cover of the 1983 Rufus & Chaka Khan hit "Ain't Nobody". A Christmas album, One Family, was issued in 2001 which had a piano appearance from GospelJazz legend, Ben Tankard. Two years later, Price returned with her third regular studio album, Priceless.
In October 2005, Price recorded her first live gospel album. The This Is Who I Am album has been released on October 24, 2006 on her own label, EcclecticSounds Records. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Charts and peaked at No. 9 on the R&B album chart. Price was inducted as an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority in July 2006. In early 2007, Price kicked off a tour with the 'Sisters in the Spirit 2007'.
In 2006, she recorded the song "Why?" for the soundtrack Why Did I Get Married?, the film version of Why Did I Get Married? Priceless Secrets from The Soul of A Woman, in which Price created the role of Sheila alongside Tyler Perry who used the song titles and lyrical content of Price's hit recordings to develop the story. In early 2009, she was featured on Coko's gospel album entitled The Winner in Me on the track "Oh Mary". In June 2010, Price promoted her single "Tired" on The Jazz Joy and Roy syndicated radio show as "some of the best work of my career to date." The song was also featured in Tyler Perrys 2011 film Madea's Big Happy Family. On February 9, 2012, in a pre-Grammy party to celebrate Price's nominations, the singer sang "Jesus Loves Me" with Whitney Houston in what turned out to be Houston's last public performance two days before her death. In September 2009, it was announced she would be joining Deborah Cox and Tamia to form the super group The Queen Project. The women seek to empower women of all ages, races and backgrounds by doing a number of community service projects.
As of early 2014, Price is working on new material for her follow-up album and is currently booked. In 2016, Kelly was included in multiple songs on rapper Kanye West's new album, The Life of Pablo. Kelly was a co-writer with American R&B singer K. Michelle, on her single Not a Little Bit which was released on January 22, 2016. It is the lead single from the singer's third studio album, More Issues Than Vogue.
Legal issues
On July 16, 2010, a lawsuit was filed in a Texas federal court by Price against a nationally known prosperity ministry, New Light Church of Houston, et al. Other defendants in the case include New Light's pastor, I. V. Hilliard, wife, Bridget Hilliard and daughter, Preshea Hilliard. Price claims she wrote and copyrighted the tune, "Women Who Win," which New Light Church and three members of the Hilliard family used without permission in a church show, on DVDs, on a website and at a "Women Who Win" conference in Houston. The original court docket indicates that the involved parties continued to use the work in a variety of ways despite being refused license to use.
In 2018, a lawsuit was filed against Price and her Atlanta based company, Sang Girl Productions, alleging that Price took $25,000 to perform at a fundraiser for a non profit organization and then did not attend. The lawsuit alleges that she did not return the $25,000 advance.
Family
Price grew up in a second apartment in the Edgemere Projects in Far Rockaway, Queens. Her father died when she was nine years old. She resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and frequently visits Los Angeles. Price's grandfather is Jerome Norman, bishop and pastor of the Full Gospel Mission Church of God in Christ in Queens and Jurisdictional Prelate of the First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Barbados since 1985 by the late Presiding Bishop J.O. Patterson. Her mother, Claudia, is the former musical director of the church. Price began singing in the church at the age of six; and due to her voice gained the nickname 'Little Mahalia Jackson'.
Breast cancer activism
In December 2000, Price donated $250,000 to fight breast cancer. She presented a check to Tony Martell of the T.J. Martell Foundation and Denise Rich of G&P Foundation For Cancer Research to help with the ongoing fight against breast cancer. Price donated the proceeds from her single "Love Sets You Free" which she recorded in January 2000. In April 1999, Price volunteered to showcase her fashion designs during a special charity gala and fashion show to help the National Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative raise money for breast cancer education for minority women. The previous year, in 1998, Price learned that both her mother and her mother-in-law had been diagnosed with breast cancer, which would later claim her mother-in-law's life.
Price's mother is a survivor of inflammatory breast cancer, and she is an activist in educating the public about the disease. She was the chairwoman of the seventh annual Sister to Sister Fitness Festival held in Dallas, Texas which was sponsored by the Celebrating Life Foundation. Claudia experienced pain in her breast in 1997, but said fear and a lack of insurance kept her from seeking immediate medical attention. Instead, she waited two years before seeing a doctor. While at work one day in 1999, her doctor called and said she had inflammatory breast cancer. Doctors gave her two months to live. She underwent chemotherapy, and the disease is in remission as of October 2006.

The record store was in a quiet part of town, and in turn, the store was pretty much empty, aside from the clerk whose head was resting on her folded arms - possibly asleep at the counter. The shelves were covered in a thin layer of dust, occasionally broken by a fingerprint or some sign of the products being moved, and records in cardboard sleeves were scattered, almost randomly, across every surface. Many of the corners were worn and many images were faded, but there was a shelf of brand-new records to one side - records still covered in plastic wrap with vivid artwork and photography. A bell chimed quietly when he pushed the door open, but the girl sitting at the counter didn’t budge.
It felt like a place out of time - something that shouldn’t have survived so long - just like him.
As soon as Steve entered, a feeling of comfort washed over him. The familiarity of a record store - rows upon rows of vinyls and posters with torn edges - it even smelled the same. He inhaled deeply, surveying the shelves around him and looking for anything familiar. There wasn’t much, but that’s okay - he wasn’t here for his old music.
He dug into his pocket, pulling out a tattered notebook and flipping to the page with his to-do list. He let out a sigh as he stared at the list, he was pretty sure he would never catch up with the modern world, not with the amount of entertainment in the world. Not after so much time had passed.
He wandered down one isle, his fingers lightly tracing the tops of records, searching for ‘Nirvana,’ one of the bands on his list. After what felt like a very long time, his fingers finally came to a halt, drifting over the title of an album - ‘From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah’ by Nirvana - and he quickly pulled it out, studying the cover.
“I wouldn’t go for that album,” a sweet voice interrupted his perusing and he flinched slightly at the sudden noise breaking the tranquility of the record store.
“Sorry, you just, don’t seem like you know what you’re looking for and that-” you gestured to the record in his hands, “-is Nirvana’s worst album.”
He blinked lamely at you, confused by your sudden appearance. You ignored his silence and began to flick through the record yourself. “This, is their best album.” you smiled, holding up ‘Nevermind,’ Nirvana’s second album, gesturing for him to take it.
“Uh– I didn’t realise it was so obvious. My cluelessness, I mean.” he had finally collected his thoughts, and stuttered out a response, placing the first record down and taking the one from your hands.
“Well, you were frozen in ice for 70 years or something - I connected the dots.”
“Ah, so you did recognise me,” he mumbled, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment.
“Yeah, I watch the news every once and a while.” you chuckled, picking up a few stray records, intending to sort them into their proper space.
“Right, of course,” he mumbled, a small smile gracing his features as he followed you down the isle, intending to buy the record and leave. “You uh, seem to know a lot about Nirvana. They a favourite of yours?”
“Not really. I just know a lot about pop culture. Working in a place like this - you learn a lot about music. Plus I have a lot of spare time.” you glanced back at him, watching curiously as he read the back of the record.
You assumed the conversation was over, and turned to continue working.
“Hey, wait, would you– would you be able to help me? I uh… need to try and catch up so if you have any suggestions…”
You turned immediately on your heel, grinning towards the tall blonde man. “I thought you’d never ask,” you said, excitement lacing your voice as you immediately starting to make a list in your head. “I’m y/n, by the way.”
He chuckled lightly at your excitement, a sweet smile reaching his cheeks as he watched you filter through the records in your arms, dropping the pile on the counter in front of you and pulling out two records.
“Ok, we have ‘Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band’ - The Beatles, I’m sure you’ve heard of them.” You looked up to gauge his reaction and he nodded his head in confirmation.
“Already heard a few of their songs,” he mumbled, taking the colourful record from you and adding it to the Nirvana one.
You held up the next record, a single. He stared blankly at the plain white cover, reading the title out. “Spice, Wan-abe?” His face was set in a grimace, immediately judging a book by its cover.
“The Spice Girls - Wannabe,” you corrected, laughing at his pronunciation. “It was really popular in the 90s, everybody in the world knows the lyrics to this chorus,” you mumbled, piling it on top of his other records.
He was still staring at the cover, suddenly unsure about your judgement, but he followed as you began to rush down another isle. “This place is like a maze,” he murmured, eyes trailing over the tall shelves in alarm, “How do you know where everything is?”
“I’ve been in this place pretty much every day since I was born - my dad owned it,” you explained, tracing your fingers across the spines of a few records. “I know this place like the back of my ha– here it is!”
You pulled out another record, briefly showing him the cover before thrusting it into his arms. “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John - Really popular in the 70s, Elton John is one of the greats.”
He nodded along, slightly overwhelmed by all the information, but glad to have someone who knew what they were talking about, rather than Tony’s bias towards ‘AC DC’ and Sam’s strange addiction to 90s boy bands.
“Oh! This is what’s playing now.” You pulled a black and white album cover from a nearby shelf and pointed up, gesturing to the speakers. “The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main st.”
A breathy laugh escaped his lips as he watched you shake your head from side to side to the rhythm of ‘Casino Boogie,’ squeezing your eyes shut in enjoyment.
“You really know your stuff,” he chuckled, adding the record to his pile.
You opened your eyes and he watched as they glistened with your passion for these records - the music, the artists, the store. You were at home here, and he found himself wishing he had something like that.
You added another couple of records to his pile - Michael Jackson, Prince, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston - before heading towards the shelf of modern music.
“Alright, there is a lot of good modern music, but there’s also a lot of bad modern music that’s really popular anyway - so I’ll try to be gentle.”
He laughed at your words and turned to watch as your fingers hovered over album titles and artists, your bottom lip pulled into your teeth.
“Uhmm, we’ll go with this.” You pulled out a dark record, holding it up to show him.
“Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - The Heist,” he read out, taking the record from your hands and studying the back of it.
You moved closer, so that you were standing next to him, your shoulder brushing against his own as you explained. “It’s rap, but some of the stuff on here is really powerful. Same Love is an amazing song about equality and homophobia and Wing$ is all about materialism and violence…”
He had stopped listening, distracted by the way you moved as you explained passionately. Your eyes had that look in them again, and he couldn’t tear his own eyes away. Your hands gesticulated, pointing to the tracklist as you directed him towards the best songs as he could see the excitement, the passion, in your movement.
He blinked, subtly shaking his head as he tuned back in.
“Oh, and ‘Cowboy boots’ is a bit of fun - good to sing along to.” you confirmed, pulling your hand away to look up at him.
“I’d like to hear that,” he mumbled, eyes widening as he realised what he’d said. He frantically tried to come up with a way to backpedal out of his statement, and he could’ve sworn he saw your eyes widen slightly, but you took it well.
“Oh trust me, you wouldn’t - I sound like a dying cat when I sing.” you laughed, taking a step back and picking up another album. “But, get a few drinks in me and I become the absolute queen of karaoke. Now that’s something you’d like to see.”
He laughed along with you, running a hand through his hair, already forgetting his awkward slip-up.
“Alright, last one.” You reached up to a higher shelf and pulled down a bright orange album. “Ed Sheeran’s first mainstream album - it broke the world back in 2011 when it came out, he’s probably the most popular male artist of recent history.”
You placed the final album gently on top of his pile, sending him an accomplished smile.
“Wow, this is a bit of a to-do list” he chuckled, staring down at the massive, colourful pile in his arms.
You laughed. “You asked, buddy.” You patter him gently on the shoulder and he could’ve sworn a shiver ran through his entire body at your touch.
“Wow it’s actually almost closing time,” you mumbled, noticing the sun going down outside and checking your watch. “I’ll ring those up for you and then close up shop.”
He followed you to the counter, watching as you carefully placed the record in a brown bag and hummed along to another song that was playing on the speaker system.
“So I’m curious,” you mumbled, pulling him from his trance, “you want to catch up with the modern world, why buy records? I’m assuming you have a phone and iTunes.”
He laughed gently at the question, the corner of his mouth twisting up. “I guess– I guess it’s just nice to have something I know. In the middle of everything so… so foreign and new, it’s uh comforting to have something… familiar.”
You felt a smile pull at your lips as you pushed the bag across the counter to him, your eyes meeting for a moment. His eyes were full of wistfulness as he looked back at you, a grateful smile on his lips.
“Well, the door’s always open,” you tilted your head towards the door, attempting to send him a comforting smile. “I mean, in a metaphorical way, not literally, I’m actually about to lock up”
He laughed, but thanked you gently. He knew it was strange, but he wanted to stay, to keep listening to you talk. your passion was exhilarating and it made him feel warm, as sappy as that sounded.
His head turned as if he was about to walk out, but he suddenly turned back to you, his mouth open as if he wanted to say something but he wasn’t sure how.
“You alright there, captain?” You smirked, organising the last few things on the counter.
“Can I walk you home?” He blurted the words out, unsure of how else to phrase it and your head flicked up in surprise, your eyes wide.
“I’m sorry - that was weird, I’ll just… go.” He turned on his heel, brusquely trying to escape his awkward moment.
“No!” You flung your backpack over your shoulder and rushed around the counter to meet him. “I’d love for you to walk me home,” you stated confidently, grinning up at him.
He smiled down at you. “Alright. Alright, let’s go.”
He pulled the door open, allowing you to walk out in front of him and you smiled thankfully, brushing a hair behind your ear. He held his arm out to you once you locked the door and you looped yours underneath, chuckling lightly at his old-fashioned, gentlemanly actions.
“I have an idea,” you stated, digging your hands into your pockets and pulling out some headphones and your phone. “I’ll show you some music while we walk - some of my favourite stuff, not world-famous like the records I gave you.”
You reached up and slipped the headphone into his ear, putting the other one in your ear and scrolling through your iTunes library, clicking on your favourote song by Rex Orange County.
‘Loving is easy
You had me fucked up,
It used to be so hard to see
Yeah, loving is easy
When everything’s perfect
Please don’t change a single little thing for me’
The song started playing and you began to him along instantly, knowing it off by heart. He sent you a smile and nodded his head along to the rhythm.
“This is nice,” he mumbled, his arm falling down and his fingers subconsciously intertwining with your own, he realised what he was doing, but it was too late, and he felt a blush spread across his cheeks when you didn’t pull your hand away. “Better than anything Tony tried to show me.”
You laughed at that, tapping your thumb lightly on the back of his hand. You were a little shocked when his hand grabbed yours, but of course Steve Rogers had some moves.
‘When you can’t even hide it
And it didn’t take forever to find it
I was all on my own
Almost glad to be alone
Until love came in
On time, on time’
He felt like he was floating and he couldn’t pull the smile off of his face. His heart beat in time with the song and he felt your thumb tapping lazily on the back of his hand he watched you in the corner of his eye, trying not to get caught.
Your hair fell loosely in front of his face and if he listened closely, he could hear your voice as you quietly sang along. He didn’t think you sounded like a dying cat at all.
He’d only just met you, but he knew he wanted to keep you around.
‘So, loving is easy
You had me fucked up,
It used to be so hard to see
Yeah, loving is easy
When everything’s perfect
Please don’t change a single little thing for me’
You glanced up at him, catching his eyes as he was already looking at you. You smiled, pulling your bottom lip between your teeth.
It was strange. A few hours ago, Captain America walked into your shop, looking for help with his to-do list. Now, he was walking you home, holding your hand and listening to your music. This was the kind of thing that happened in rom-coms, and suddenly it was happening to you in real-life.
His hand squeezed yours gently and you felt a blush rush across your neck, threatening to flood your cheeks. You averted your eyes, looking down at the pavement.
‘So listen girl,
When you can’t even hide it
And it didn’t take forever to find it
I was all on my own
Almost glad to be alone
Until love came in
On time, on time’
He pulled the headphone out as the song ended, and you looked back up at him, raising a brow inquisitively.
“That was... amazing, do you have his vinyl?”
“Of course I do,” you chuckled, “you’ll have to come visit me at the store sometime.” You said the words in a light-hearted tone, but you hoped with everything you had that he would come back.
“Trust me, I will.” he murmured, forcing you to smile again, the blush finally reaching your cheeks.
“Alright well, this is my place.” you gestured towards the apartment building and he nodded his head slowly in recognition.
You looked down at your connected hands and slowly released his fingers, letting your hand fall to your side.
“Thank you, for the records, and for teaching me about some of this stuff,” he mumbled, lifting the bag slightly.
You knew this was where you were supposed to say goodbye, and hope to see him again at the store, but you couldn’t just leave it at that. You had no idea where this new-found confidence came from, but you reached forward, pulling a pen out of your bag and lifting his shirt from his wrist. He was an old-fashioned guy - you decided to do something a little old-fashioned, and wrote out your number on his wrist.
When you were done, you glanced up at his shocked face, leaving towards him and pressing your lips gently to his cheek, as close to his lips as possible.
“Call me, Steve,” you whispered into his ear, brushing your fingers across his shoulder as you pulled away.
He nodded gently, a blush spreading across his cheeks. “I will, doll.”
You felt a shiver run down your spine as you turned away, entering your building and leaving Captain America on the side of the road.
