Every time climate change is discussed, “what about the economy” always appears.

The thing is, I think our collective great-great-great-great-great-grandkids won’t give two shits about the status of the economy two centuries before their time.

They would be more concerned about surviving the consequences from their ancestors many actions. I also think that they wouldn’t have all that good of an opinion of us.

Mai is an apathetic character, certainly, and the only ones she seems to have any real affections for are Zuko and Ty Lee in the series. Because other than that, I get the impression that she doesn't really care about his own family. And it's not a bad thing that she is like that and that Zuko accepts her as she is. The problem is that it's clearly underdeveloped and has no real interest in the plot. To the point that once again, at the end you wonder what Zuko is still doing with her. It would have been interesting to seriously address Mai's apathy. Instead we focus mainly and quite simply on his interest in Zuko, which is... really not great. Creating an independent female character with badass characteristics and suffering from apathy, all of which to finally boil it down to her love for a guy is so inappropriate in my opinion. Especially since this love isn't even treated properly, because since Mai's mental state isn't really treated, she can clearly just be taken for a bitch. And that's how she makes me feel. This story of apathy only comes to light at the start of season 3 and is never addressed again. It's like it's just there to give a reason why Zuko would stay with her despite their very clear differences. In fashion, it's not her fault, it's because of what she went through. (Our first impression of Mai's parents doesn't even seem to be bad. So Mai's statement also feels like a backpedal...) And it might have worked somewhere, if it had been addressed correctly again instead of just once and never brought up again. Although also Zuko maybe didn't even understand the apathy thing like some viewers. Maybe he just understood that Mai had a difficult childhood which caused her to bottle up her emotions and not have a real interest in anything. If he understood just that and not Mai's apathetic aspect... Well that wouldn't really explain why he would still stay with her despite everything in the end. Especially since everyone is not going to think about apathy for Mai once again seeing how it is skimmed over and barely discussed. Mai's character has a lot of potential for me. Even in a romance with Zuko. (Seriously, they look awesome drawing together) But how am I supposed to get invested in a character that's barely covered ? How am I supposed to buy into a romance that just hinges on Mai's childhood crush on Zuko, without getting Zuko's opinion on it, a short, vexing discussion on the boat ride back to the nation of fire ending surprisingly with a kiss for no reason ?! Like... am I supposed to buy into this so-called romance ? Once again, it seemed mostly presented that this relationship was based on not much and was symbolically the epitome of everything Zuko thought he wanted but which he actually doesn't really want and especially what he doesn't need. Damn Bryke you really don't know how to write... Essentially the beginning of Maiko announces a future separation instead of a relationship that will continue. And the thing finally started to justify them staying together later at the end of the series, namely apathy, is barely skimmed over and is addressed only once, just to have done it, not coming from this fact still not made sense of the Maiko endgame. Because, even with the apathy aspect in play, it still does not justify the end of Maiko's game with the way in which their relationship began textually and symbolically speaking. If the writers wanted Maiko at the end of the game, they should have given them another start and treated Mai's character more, whether in her apathy or other aspects of her personality. Give her another fundamental trait than "loving Zuko". Which is to say, I don't like Kataang, but I still prefer this relationship to Maiko. In any case, the best romances are those experienced by Sokka, specifically with Suki.

So! Dropout fans who have been wondering about why the company hasn't made any statement of solidarity or for ceasefire regarding the genocide in Palestine ---- the second screenshot is the official reason behind their silence.

Following that, the official server moderators' position is that you should not discuss or talk about the Genocide in Palestine there because they aren't equipped to moderate that.

Upon realising that they're effectively enforcing a rule to Stop People From Talking about Genocide, I made my post (last two screenshots) in righteous dissent.

Naturally I was kicked from the server and my posts were deleted.

Due diligence: At the time of the post, the minister of health had said that 39 babies in incubators at Al-Shifa Hospital were killed. It has since been confirmed that he misspoke: 1 baby died and 36 are manually being kept alive by the healthcare workers besieged by Israeli snipers.

This post is not about the Dropout cast. They were often brought up despite being irrelevant to the questions raised by the concerned members of the community. Some Dropout cast members are pro-Palestine, some are justifying Israel's settler project while trying to condemn genocide at the same time, many are silent. Server members have said "If you've been here long enough, you should know where they stand" and "Do you seriously think /Dropout/ is pro-genocide?" You're all pathetic.

Multiple Zionists have spoken in the server about their discomfort and this has never been addressed with any consequences. One member changed their server name to "pray for Israel" and the moderators were aware of it, but did not move until a server member brought up the concern. What an efficient and serious display of their commitment to creating a safe space!

One Zionist implied that Ally Beardsley should be fired for being anti-zionist.

Multiple other Zionists have been ignored over the many years of this server's existence. In fact, just searching up "Palestine" there, is going to be quite revealing. The moderation is not committed to the safety and well-being of fans of colour, and certainly has chosen to silence pro-Palestinian voices.

The only moderation they've done so far, is kicking me out for refusing to be silenced. As I said, congrats on being the first woke space to say "stop talking about genocide".

I have seen many poc hurt and wronged by this community, but this is justifying silence on Genocide and securing a space for Zionists.

Please hold them accountable.

Also, no, a comedy service is not somehow exempt from talking about genocide.

And a mind numbing point I am compelled to address: whether or not condemning genocide is performative, depends on the person, though it's revealing that many people in the server's immediate assumption is that showing solidarity is performative.

Now that I'm back into DC and reading comics again I've been thinking a bit about why I left. I've been in many fandoms over the years and as far as I can tell, DC is the only one where my departure felt very sudden and out of the blue. Anyways, I remembered today.

I read the first issue of Red Hood and the Outlaws (2011).

That's the thing that killed it. That issue.

Little teenager me, years-long devourer of comics both good and terrible, read that one issue and the interest withered away like it was never there in the first place. It's been so long I thought it was gone for good.

hi, I just wanted to ask something. This has been bugging me for a while, but how come you're not as mad as Archie as you are at Betty? it takes TWO people to kiss...

Why hello!! I'm more than happy to rant about this because it's been on my BRAIN, just sitting there, so thanks for giving me an opportunity :D

So, I'm going to assume you're asking why I don't hold Betty and Archie to the same standard when it comes to bringing up the b*ghead break up/the infamous double judas kiss that started it all. To be as frank as possible; It's very much favoritism. But the justified kind, so lower your pitchforks.

Just by a quick scroll to my blog, I think it's unmistakably evident I like Archie over Betty; Like a red dot in a white room. You can't miss it. It's there. And as third party viewers, our individual feelings, opinion, and attachments we form towards these characters motivate the moral standards we set for them.

Take a generous majority of Betty stans, for example; Despite being united by the same romantic relationship in the show, they have a direct connection in strongly disliking the male half of said relationship; Jughead.

Betty is very much the golden child of B*gheads, so I figured it was fair game. Arguably, you can say some of them maintain some objectivism, but not enough for me to consider it valuable.

Now, am I saying Archie's a perfect angel who could do no wrong? That because he's the fandom's ' haha, big himbo Boi golden retriever stupid wholesome jock' means all guilt and responsibility should be absorbed from his part? No! Absolutely not.

I don't think there's anyone in this fandom who hates the " Archie is a perfect angel and our annoying but beloved protagonist " narrative more than I do;

Fuck. No. Archie is a violent, careless, emotionally inept douchebag, who wouldn't know what a non-dysfunctional relationship was if it spit in his eye. But here's a thing, Archie isn't the protagonist; He's the antagonist.

Arguably speaking, Archie's the most morally ambiguous/morally grey character on the show, in my opinion. Not because he struggles with separating dark from light, but because he chooses both.

I can't really look at a kiss and all that other shit he's done and be like ' oh YEA, kissing was definetly worse!' the same logic can apply to Betty, but here's ANOTHER thing; Archie didn't owe Jughead loyalty.

Archie wasn't his boyfriend; Archie wasn't the one promising he won't do it again; Archie wasn't the one who went behind his back. He's the mistress in this scenario, and mistresses aren't morally indebted to anyone.

Betty was. She was Jughead's girlfriend. She was the one who sang " you're the only man for me" and yet does the opposite, on quite clear multiple times. (There's accounts of consecutive emotional cheating as well) and she's the one who's actions hurt Jughead the most because SHE was dating him.

Hell, Archie and Jughead were barely even friends; I'll even argue to say a constant theme in the show is the constant construction and reconstruction of Jarchie's friendship. How they fail to be friends but still choose eachother, over and over again, because they're held together by memories and nostalgia.

Of course I can't hold the same bitterness for Archie when his involvement and presence in Jughead's life doesn't hold the same impact as Betty's. Archie never promised him anything. Betty did.

At best, Archie owes Jughead an apology, but his real target of compensation should be his actual partner. Veronica. Archie owes her remorse.

I'll even go ahead and say it - the varchie break up hurt more because their relationship was build on actual meaningful, mature grounds.

b*ughead is a middle schooler's relationship goals. Which is to be expected because they were 16, teenagers, yet! Archie and Veronica happen to be characters with more experience in romance, both by direct and indirect contact. (From multiple partners to their own parents separating respectively)

I don't necessarily like comparing emotional damage; I do my best not to cherry pick. However, I don't think I owe cheaters the courtesy of fair thinking.

There's no good reason to cheat. It's a destructive, cruel, abusive act of disrespect towards your partner, and I'm not at all moved by Betty's performative remorse, especially because she clearly doesn't feel it as much as the fandom pushes it.

But I'll say it once and I'll say it for as long as I can; If anti Barchies dislike barchie because they like Betty, I dislike b*ghead because I love Jughead.

#i hope this doesn't come across as ' if your partner cheats on you with your friend - just forgive the friend'#like no obviously. they're BOTH culpable but there's a different standard for them from an emotional standpoint #riverdale #riverdale negativity #kinda #anti betty cooper #anti bughead #jughead jones #meta #archie andrews #veronica lodge #asks #i'd also go as far as to say i'm easier on archie bc he takes actual accountability for what he's done #he's not betty - he can't wear apathy disguised as remorse so he just doesn't find excuses for himself #when jughead confronts him (if you can even call it that) he doesn’t defend himself; he doesn’t expect jughead to just forget this happened #he especially doesn’t expect their relationship to ever be the same after. but like i mentioned -#archie and jughead have different maturity levels when it comes to relationships. betty is Jughead's first girlfriend #and of course he holds a strong attachment to her. in his mind he and betty will stay together forever #and re write their dark destinies with the power of love. archie - who had multiple partners with very different and distinct personalities #knows that's very much not the case. there's a certain realism archie has when it comes to romantic relationships that jughead #doesn't possess until later sessons
