okay, you know what? Running away shouldn’t be a crime. It shouldn’t be dangerous, either. Any kid should be able to leave their parents if they want, for any reason. No I’m not kidding.
“But Rue, where will these kids stay? Do you want them on the streets?”
of course not. In an ideal world, a kids would have multiple adults other than their parents they could look to for care, but I recognize that that will never be a reality for every single child. So: youth shelters, if they have nowhere else to go. There should be clean, warm shelters where anyone under 18 can stay for as long as they need, no questions asked. (And of course shelters that aren’t just for kids, but we’re talking about youth rights right now)
“But Rue,” I hear you say, “what if some moody teenager runs away after an argument?”
First of all, I’d rather a thousand moody teenagers run away than one abused child be trapped. Second, so what if one does? A kid needs time away from their parents, so they leave. The vast majority of them will get some time to cool down and then go back home, and if they don’t want to go back, period? Then nine times out of ten, they have a good reason. (Because yes, as hard as it is for you to believe, kids are humans who have common sense.)
“Okay, but what about the one time out of ten the kid doesn’t have a good reason?”
Then the kid doesn’t have a good reason. It doesn’t change anything. If someone wants to break up with their partner because of something stupid, you wouldn’t say they legally shouldn’t be able to. (And if you would, then you’re just a bad person.) No one should have to be in a relationship, romantic or otherwise, that they don’t want to be in.

As an adult in a busy and exhausting world I think it is an extremely natural and standard human need to sometimes be cared for, or reassured, or held. In a better world we would all have extended, interlocking networks and bonds of friends and family, so that we'd all be taking care of someone else, and cared for, in lots of tiny ways and all at the same time; indeed this is the very definition of a society. But in our current isolated, atomized culture we try to silo all of our needs into the island of the nuclear family, an abstract mid-century invention that has never really been how human kinship is organized, and this ideology narrows and constricts our view until we can only see other forms of caretaking between adults as wrong, alien, even incestual. We are so damned to it that I've seen it declared childish simply to want to be held while you cry, so deprived are we that we cannot imagine love or consolation without forcing it into the framework of a parent-child dichotomy. This is a great tragedy. So no, I don't have a mommy kink just because I want a hot girl to call me baby and say she's going to take care of me, that's totally normal to desire from a romantic or sexual partner, you're the one making it weird actually by bringing up all the hey I wasn't done where are you going

I must not mock Gen Alpha. Mocking Gen Alpha is the mind killer. Mocking Gen Alpha is the little-death that brings total generational solidarity obliteration. I will engage with Gen Alpha lovingly. I will permit them to be cringe. And when they grow up I will turn my eye to their accomplishments. Where mocking has gone there will be nothing. Only generational solidarity remains

So Much Wasted Human Brilliance
Feeling so pissed off about how we just let so many people's amazing potential go to waste cause they were born in poverty. Literally! we are letting so much human brilliance go to waste for nothing. Human brilliance that could serve the greater good of nature and humanity in ways that would probably have avoided getting us in the majority of messes we are in now!
Human potential, talent, brilliance and genius does NOT discriminate!! neither should we! A good idea is a good idea, a genius invention is a genius invention, a life saving treatment is a life saving treatment regardless of who created it!
It does not serve the world or humanity to let people rot in poverty just cause they're a different colour or speak a different language etc. We could have cured cancer by now probably, if women and poc had been allowed full access to all levels of education from the start. Education should always be free and accessible to all!
And don't give that shit with scholarships, we all know they're bullshit and don't address the deeper root of the problem which is capitalism

Me at a Gay Bar talking to the nearest person who will listen to me ramble: Okay so you see self driving cars are a fucking scam you hear me, there are too many variables on the road to trust a machine and they still will take just as long as a human to get places and they aren’t capable of making the same split second decisions a human can make, so we really shouldn’t be studying them in all honesty, if we want to pursue driverless transit we should focus on building automated train lines due to how since they function on a set track they decisions rarely need to be made, additionally the technology for them is proven having existed since the 60s, so if we really want good driverless transport we should do what every transit expert has suggested and just focus on building modern reliable public transit

just saw a post from my old blog going around explaining how trauma works and that any event can be traumatic regardless of how “bad” it was due to a number of outside factors and someone commented “that would mean almost everyone alive has trauma though….”
correct! most people have survived or are surviving some form of trauma! trauma that has been so normalized as something many people “have” to experience that you don’t even consider your trauma “valid.” poverty is traumatic. health issues can be traumatic. family deaths can be traumatic. school bullying can be traumatic. minor car accidents. muggings even if you don’t get hurt.
and everyone deserves care. hope that helps! genuinely! ♥️

Visible Mending
Introduction:
Visible mending is a decorative way to fix up an item. Instead of trying to make your mend as invisible as possible, the idea is to make it part of the garment's design.
Visual mending is not a single technique: it's more of a mindset. If you've got an item you love, it deserves to be mended, and if you're going to put that love into stitches, why not show them off?
That being said, there are some specific techniques that are popular with visible menders. Let's take a look!
Sashiko:
Sashiko is a type of traditional Japanese embroidery that is used to both decorate and reinforce fabric. In visible mending, sashiko is often used to cover up holes with patches or to reinforce thinning fabric. This technique uses a variation on the running stitch.

Embroidery:
Regular embroidery is also a popular technique to accentuate your mends. Check out my embroidery 101 post to learn how to get started. You can embroider patches, or use embroidery to hide or accentuate any stitches you've made to fix holes. Embroidery's also a great way to cover up stains.

Patches:
There are many ways to add patches to a garment. My tutorial on patches is a good place to start if you want to make custom-shaped patches to sew on top of your fabric. You can also sew your patch on the inside of your garment and have it peek out from beneath the hole you're trying to fix. Fun ideas for this are lace or superheroes.

Darning:
Darning is a technique used to repair holes in fabric by using running stitches to weave extra fabric over the hole as to fill it up again. While traditionally darning is done in an invisible way by using the same colour of thread as your fabric, you can also use contrasting colours to accentuate your fix. Check out this written tutorial on darning by TheSpruceCrafts.

Conclusion:
Visible mending is a creative way to fix up your clothes and give them some personality at the same time.
You should be proud of the fact that you took the time and learned the necessary skills needed to mend your clothes! Show off what you did!
A fun side effect of wearing these obvious mends is that people will notice them. They'll remember your fixes the next time they're faced with a hole in their wardrobe, and it will make them more likely to try it for themselves.
These are just a few ways to visibly mend your garments. Want more inspiration? Check out Pinterest or r/Visiblemending on Reddit.
