Well, Celebrían was held and tortured in the Misty Mountains rather than Dol Guldur, but I can see your point about the Superpowered Mama Bear. :) After all, I'm a mom myself and I would unleash unspeakable horrors on whoever might hurt my children.

Your comments were in response to my vent about why it took Galadriel so long to act and help Mirkwood/Thranduil take down Dol Guldur. She stepped in only in the end to "cleanse" it after Sauron had been vanquished.

Honestly, Galadriel's seeming lack of action throughout the history of Middle-earth is baffling to me, and I consider it one of the flaws in Tolkien's works (sorry, Professor!). We're told she's extremely powerful and one of the greatest of the Noldor Exiles. But we have no clue what she actually did during the Wars of Beleriand, or the Second Age, other than traveling a lot and giving advice to Celebrimbor, and taking Nenya (Rings of Power tried to wager guesses, but most fans hated the show's take). She probably saw the most action during the Third Age, but even so, even the little that is mentioned of Thranduil sees him going to war for his people and effectively Middle-earth. Galadriel seems to have mostly stayed in Lothlorien to give advice and defend her own territory.

So yeah, I guess what I'm saying is that is was rather a waste of a character to have her act on Dol Guldur just at the last minute, and we're not given a sufficient explanation why it took so long.

Tolkien was a philologist and a linguist, therefore names in the Tolkienverse are a big deal: in The Silmarillion, the evil god that revolts against his brothers and his creator is called Melkor but it's later renamed Morgoth* (Dark Enemy) and his servant, Mairon, is commonly known as Sauron (the Abhorred). Sméagol becomes Gollum, so I've always thought that "I will [diminish and] remain Galadriel" means she won't turn into the Dark Queen we see appearing for a moment when she's showing her true power to Frodo, who would probably assume a different and ominous name.

Edited to add an important detail: Galadriel isn't one of the names her parents gave her as a child but the one she chooses to use later on in life, because her spouse Celeborn calls her so. It's especially dear to her and by confirming that she wishes to remain Galadriel she reaffirms her choice (refusing the Ring and its power).

*the extended edition features a scene where Legolas explains what happened to Gandalf and says: "He was taken by both shadow and flame - a Balrog of Morgoth" but if you're not familiar with the lore it's hard to figure out who Morgoth is

Thoughts on Galadriel with the bow and arrow??! We saw how skilled she is with swirds--do we think she's mastered this as well in her thousands of years of life or could another elf like Arondir maybe have given her some pointers????

Okay oh my goodness the fact that she has a bow and arrow is so cool!?! I was really excited when I saw that in the trailer!

I love the way your brain is working here with the idea that perhaps Arondir taught her how to use it or at least showed her how to use it better. One of my favorite parts of season 1 was in the last few episodes where Galadriel and Theo were interacting together, so I am really hoping we get an excuse to see her interact with Arondir and Bronwyn too. (Though I am worried about Bronwyn because from what I've seen she doesn't show up in the trailer). I think it would be a great insight into Galadriel's character to watch her attempt something she isn't as skilled in, and if Arondir (or another elf), were to show her how to go about it properly, it might help her connect with her elvish culture again, even if it isn't what she's used to. In season one we see how disconnected she is from what makes her an elf, but I am hoping to watch her reclaim, or rewrite, that part of her for herself.

If it turns out she already knows how to use a bow and arrow, I won't be upset by any means, but I love your idea here and I think it would be a great opportunity for Galadriel's character development to really shine through!

Also, seeing her with a bow and arrow keeps making me think about the scene where Galadriel is giving the Fellowship gifts, and she gives Legolas a bow of the Galadhrim. I think it would be cool if the show tried to tie in that fact by alluding to it or kind of foreshadowing it if that makes sense? If the elves she leads in the future use these specially crafted Galadhrim bows, then it would be interesting to see how that came to be. Maybe Arondir teaches her how to craft her own bow or perhaps it was a gift to her for protecting Theo which she uses as inspiration for her own weapons in the future? There are so many possibilities and I love diving deeper into the content of the trailer, even with the details that might seem small! Thanks for the ask I really enjoyed talking about this because Galadriel with a bow is something that makes me so happy!

Why would @nighttimepatrons and I make this au? Because it’s cute. Imagine little elflets trying to climb into their parents’ belly pouches to hide. Imagine the process of pouch-weaning an elflet who is really too big to be climbing in anymore. It’s just cute, ok?

Now, let’s talk about some elves and their pouches!

Nerdanel: Very roomy, very comfy. She’s had a lot of kids in there. Solid 8/10 (points deducted because occupants might get banged against rock she’s chiseling for her latest sculpture)

Feanor: Comfy place to curl up for a snooze but it gets a bit hot, and he will kick you out when he goes to the forge. 7/10

Maedhros: Excellent, so roomy, can easily hold two or more elflets at once, he’ll never bump against pointy table corners. 9/10 (some argue it’s too roomy)

Maglor/Celegorm/Caranthir: it’s fine, I guess, but why would you go in there when Maedhros is an option? 5/10 (at least Celegorm has good stories)

Curufin: “Leaving was the right thing to do, but I miss him sometimes. I miss all of them—who they were.” 3/10 (sample size of 1)

Ambarussar: The only things in those pouches are arrows. Unrated.

Glorfindel: A good place to hide for a few minutes or to peek out of during hikes to enjoy the view but he will evict you when he’s busy. 6/10

Erestor: Due to unfortunate childhood experiences, the only thing getting into this half-elf’s pouch is lent and yeast infections. 1/10 (Glorfindel’s trying to help)

Celeborn: He looks like the weak link during pouch-weaning, but it’s a trick. Grandpa will Not let you inside when mom says no more pouch. 7/10

Galadriel: No one’s dared to get in lately, but Celebrian reports that she was quite comfortable. 5/10 (points deducted for intimidation factor)

Celebrian: Cozy, a little tight with twins, very easy to fall asleep. 8/10

Gil-galad: Little Arwen’s claimed it as hers and only hers, so it mut be good. 7/10 (unfortunately she had to be pulled out after he fell at Sauron’s hands, which is very traumatic for an elflet)

Elrond: Much to his children’s confusion, he doesn’t have a pouch. No one in Melian’s line has one.

Marsupial clothing would be designed so that elflets have pouch access, so it isn’t an uncommon sight for little heads to suddenly poke out from between the folds of a robe, or for an elflet to start pulling at their parent’s clothes, trying to find the opening. Pants are a no-go when an elflet’s involved, there’s just no room to stretch.

Pouch hygiene is very important. A healthy pouch is a little moist and it should be regularly cleaned to prevent itchy yeast infections. Lent and dust can also cause irritation. Elrond gives Glorfindel salves to try to get Erestor to use in his crusty pouch so he doesn’t itch himself raw in his sleep.

There are some less fun parts, too, of course. Like the fact that itty bitty elflets might not be noticed if they fall out of the pouch, leaving them abandoned on the ground and too small to be alone for long. Or the way kidnappers can hold out a sack and some elflets will climb right in because it looks like a pouch. But most of this is happy! (outside of Erestor being relentlessly teased by his human playmates and Arwen being traumatized by Gil-galad’s death)

Oh, did I mention that Gil-galad, Elrond, and Celebrian are a threesome yet, because they are.

And kidnap fam totally happens. E+E like Maedhros’ pouch more than Maglor’s.

Well, as you're snowed in, obviously we need snow stories. Surely it snowed in Gondolin? Imladris? Elrohir and Elladan would be up to all sorts of shenanigans in the snow, as would Legolas in Mirkwood. Snowball fights, snow statues of orcs or others instead of snowmen. Sleigh rides, cuddling by fireplaces, ice skating (I know, very non-canon), or baking cookies and drinking hot chocolate. I would love to ask for a Celegorm/Oromë snow adventure, but that might be pushing it. No true prompts as I just finished a 14-hour day and I'm rather dull witted at the moment. It's going to be brutally cold here, I am going to hibernate.

"My bad. You asked my name right?" Seemingly out of character, he took her hand in his and placed a small peck on the back of it. "Name's Leo, pleasure to meet ya Galadriel." Again turning to his companion, Leo gave him a nudge. "How was that? Bet ya didn't know I could be such a gentleman."

The satisfied look on his face resulted in the Giratina letting out another sigh. It was obvious he had no control over Leo's behavior and just being around him was exhausting.

"I do apologize for his behavior miss. He is a... unique one to say the least."
