How many works do you have on AO3? 10 currently. if we’re counting all past accounts and orphaned works… easily 50-60.

What is your AO3 word count? currently 149,834. if we account for the grand total, well. more. ha.

What fandoms do you write for? i’ve been in quite a few, mostly video game ones, but right now it’s mostly only honkai star rail on my mind though i have the odd rhaenicent idea rattling around.

What are your top five fics by kudos? you and me are a twisted fantasy (kafhime enemies to milkies), i’m on a leash called you (kafhime with dom himeko), da capo al fine (kafhime time loops), the dew of dying stars (ruanliu mara body horrors and cannibalism), and spark (kafxuan horny).

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? yes, i try to most of the time! i had a lapse this fall where i just didn’t have enough energy to do it for months on end, but i cleared my inbox of that backlog on january 1st. i’m trying to be more consistent going forward.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? none i can link bc orphaned or on old accounts, but i do love a good angsty ending if it makes sense for the way the story has been going. kinda aching to write one again i won’t lie.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? most of them are quite happy in terms of endings! i know people doomed so hard about da capo was going to have a sad tragic ending but that was… never in the cards for me. i already have it written and i’m very excited about getting there.

Do you get hate on fics? sort of. i wish people would offer up critiques instead of just leaving comments like “ew this is unhygienic”, “disgusting”, “can’t believe i read 8 chapters just for BOTTOM KAFKA” or whatever else pointless stuff i’ve deleted.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? mostly, yes. i think 99% of my writing stems from a very clear and vivid image of a sex scene, and then me building backwards to root that sex in a way that feels natural and consistent to both characters. and i'm always looking for some new angle in smut, or else it'll bore me, so that means exploring new kinks or dynamics each time.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? no, i frankly hate crossovers and it’s one of my blocked tags on ao3.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? oh yeah lol. sucks! what can you do! it always amuses me because if these people just bothered to talk to me in the way of “hey, i love x idea, i want to do my own take of it, can i discuss some ideas with you?” i’d be 100% down to help nurture that. i reblogged a post about it the other day but i definitely feel that fandom community has turned into a fandom clout competition which feeds into this, too many of us looking for a quick boost in some imaginary clout chasing.

Have you ever had a fic translated? several, yes. for a while i had a bunch of old fics translated into russian. it always flatters me that people would go through that effort with my works.

Have you ever cowritten a fic before? yes, i’ve written a ton of unpublished wips with others and enjoyed the process, and then one i co-wrote with junie and published in an old fandom. i’d love to do it again, tbh, it’s incredibly energizing and fun, but wrangling two people’s creativity together over an extended period of time is always a lot of work and agreements, as well as being able to actually produce. you both need to trust each other and deliver.

What's your all-time favourite ship? uhm. i don’t know. i really don’t. ships by themselves don’t make me feel that excited, weirdly enough, but rather what people make exist in them. i have absolutely lost interest in compelling ships because the fandom de-fanged them, pulled their punches or morphed every single aspect about them into “uwu soft healing together”. (i could go into a long rant about how healing tends to be kinda… ugly…. in interpersonal dynamics. but that’s for another time.)

What's a WIP you'd like to finish but doubt you ever will? most of my unfinished wips i’m completely at ease with leaving behind in the dust. most. i do spend a lot of time thinking about a dorothea/rhea court drama au.

What are your writing strengths? visuals, i think. i have a very vivid inner eye when writing and the scenes play out like a movie for me, so i pay a lot of attention to the choreography and details of the scenes, where everyone’s hands are, and so on, to try and translate my inner vision to text. i can be a very harsh editor which means i’m always looking at what effect each scene is striving for — does it make sense for it to meander, or does it need to be snappier, sharper?

What are your writing weaknesses? i feel like my vocabulary could do with enrichment. i spend a lot of time looking up synonyms because they never stick in my head, and most of my reading books is spent noting down words in a notepad i’d like to use. sometimes i leave too much to be fixed in editing instead of putting it all down in the first draft. i don’t like involving too many characters so sometimes i think fics can get a bit too narrow — and sometimes i can play that for good effect, i guess.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? if you know it, sure, if you want; or at the very least use a beta who knows the language. i tried reading some fics that made use of my mother tongue and my god was it jarringly obvious google translate as well as irrelevant. i think it is worth asking twice what effect it will have for the reader and if it will come off as jarring.

First fandom you wrote for? lord of the rings! man i loved my mary sue silly era.

Favourite fic you've ever written? completed: spark. the amount of research i poured into it, as well as dedicating myself to convoluting fu xuan’s internal voice and outlook on things was some real hard work, but satisfying in the end. incomplete: the dew of dying stars. this one pushed me to research more, think harder about what i wanted to convey, and make them be worse. it’s been a very fun shift in how much i allow myself to dig deep, and relaxing and trusting the audience more. truly a new level of sicko weirdo fic for me.

I appreciate entirely you may not wish to respond to this. I’m just catching up on todays earlier posts, so understand the discussion may have moved on.

Sometimes I wonder whether the conspiracy around Freddie was allowed to grow/encouraged in order to benefit Harry. As you said earlier, it allowed a separation between Harry and Louis, but my impression had always been that the launch of solo Harry was propped up by their encouragement of Larries (eg rainbow bears).

Undoubtedly the majority of the speculation was fuelled by Larries/Harries, but I do wonder how much of that was encouraged as to benefit Harry’s career.

I can’t imagine Louis was on board with any of this, but equally, what could he really have done to prevent or stop it: we’ve seen in his career how much he is held back in order to uplift Harry.

Another low for Mr Styles as he stops at nothing to ensure his own success.

Oh Freddie’s paternity absolutely was (and is) used to benefit Harry. 100%.

It wasn’t a coincidence that in 2020, when Louis couldn’t go on tour, we had SYNDICATED articles about Freddie every time there was a fandom project — getting Walls to iTunes #1 in August 2020, as well as getting JLY to #1 in October 2020. It was like clockwork— Louis has a positive article, Freddie articles came out. We’re talking about 50-60 media sources at once, in small town USA papers too, People magazine, Yahoo news.

Capital FM was running these articles WEEKLY.

Briana and Brodie Jenner dating, the photos of Louis in the delivery room, the photos Danielle’s friend took of Louis and baby Freddie— ALL of them were released in summer 2020. Watermelon Sugar was charting. Louis couldn’t go on tour. Harry would soon start filming Don’t Worry Darling and use Olivia Wilde to promote his “movie star” image. Meanwhile, for Louis we have… Briana’s ultrasound photos and boobgate in the courts, with tabloid articles to boost.

Louis didn’t send out these articles (although Simon Jones might have lol). You know why there was all this garbage going on. It wasn’t for Louis’ benefit, and it definitely hurts Freddie in the long run.

I also feel like tumblr is low stakes coz no one has to worry about z seeing anything she might feel like she has to hide. Which is why i think instagram and twitter stans police each other when it comes to that (a lil too much sometimes) coz there's a possibility she might see it. In general I feel like all speculation is harmless so long as it doesn't get back to the people being speculated about. I hear what you’re saying as Zendaya & Tom are human beings, and (with a few specific exceptions ngl) I don’t want to see any human being suffer.

That said, the ethics of fandom is something I think about from time to time, and i think I disagree with the implication that fans are responsible for celebrities’ feelings.

What follows is probably going to be controversial😬

As I see it, the “Zendaya” that I and you interact with is closer to a fictional character than to a person we know in real life. (If you want to get really philosophical, I’d say that we’re all characters to some extent.) It’s not a good or a bad thing; it just is. That’s how and why celebrity culture functions. The transformation from irl person to character—or maybe “avatar” is a better word—is what enables us to connect and engage with Zendaya or any famous person, and it’s also what she then commodifies to have her career and buy her houses…and pay for her private security so that we don’t overreach and threaten the real person’s safety. I’ve blogged about how she’s raised her profile to create her career, and she’s done that as everyone would by becoming a celebrity-avatar. We live in a sm age that’s extremely conducive to doing so but famous people have been at it for centuries.

I do think that process of fictionalization and commodification is probably tough on the psyche, and I’m not without sympathy. If I were Zendaya’s friend and knew she was lurking on social media, I’d ask her what the hell she was doing and tell her to get off and out of there ASAP. I’d tell her to have Scotty or whomever run her public accounts and to personally use WhatsApp or something else private to share photos and thoughts among family and friends. Tbh, I find Zendaya’s social media habits…curious. I know she’s less engaged than she’s been in years past. She probably still has fun with some engagement, and it’s probably very hard to resist interacting! At the same time, I assume she’s at least partly there because she wants fans to be nervous about what they post; she wants to control what they do to what she probably sees as her “Zendaya” avatar; essentially, she at least a bit wants fans to work for her. I completely understand why she would want all of that and I probably would, too, but at the same time I don’t think that kind of control is really fair either, especially since I’m pretty sure she’s not paying those big IG accounts or Twitter accounts to boost her image and help her sell her movie tickets, which they most definitely are, and I think she’s instead manipulating parasocial feelings, which is free to do and very lucrative.

This may sound cold-hearted, but that’s all to say that I’m not too much concerned with the real-life Zendaya and her feelings. Those are the responsibility of her, her loved ones, the professionals she’s hired, and perhaps her therapist. I’m not responsible for hers just as she’s not responsible for mine. I don’t owe her anything just as she doesn’t owe me anything. I wouldn’t be mean or spread hate because I’m not a sociopath and don’t want to put bad things into the world, and I wouldnt harass anyone at all. I also freely use “Zendaya” as a way to think and talk in my little corner and sometimes to have fun around trivial stuff. But at the end of the day I’m here for me and for the people I’m talking to, not for Zendaya Coleman.

If she is reading tumblr and would like to respond to this post I’m all ears, but then she would have completely changed the nature of our “relationship,” and I would probably never blog here again haha

This season has been rough for many in the LS fandom, for a variety of reasons, but one thing that hasn’t been disappointing is the creative work of the fandom! We’re so lucky to have so many talented writers and gif makers around here!

Waking up to a slew of notifications for wip Wednesday/snippet Sunday et al is always a delight and I love seeing what everyone is up to and sharing the love - I don’t tend to check the ao3 tag and get almost all of my fic recs from what I see on the dash so I do like to pay it forward! Plus, as a writer, sometimes that little serotonin boost from seeing that others are interested in and liking what you’re working on is what you need to keep going, especially if the words aren’t flowing.

While this upcoming hiatus may be a long one, and many of us are still processing season 4, I think (know) we’re in for some absolute treats fic-wise in the next few months and I can’t wait to read them (probably many weeks/months after they’re posted lol).

But as for the Rachel ships that make me say “eh yeah it’s fine”...

Brochel. I thought they were cute together. Brody had his issues but he always made Rachel feel sexy and boosted her confidence. Like actually. Not like he constantly insulted her appearance and then Rachel tells us the audience that he made her feel sexy and we’re like girl where...

Puckleberry. I like their friendship a lot and if they wanna hook up from time to time then good on them. the thing is for COUPLES. but because of a lot of the “do you know and trust each other?” bits Besties can do Very Well None The Less.

I think Joe’s experienced 0-100 overnight success and being pushed into the public’s awareness at a unique time with unique factors that = a particularly unhealthy and toxic case of people either not respecting actors/celebs private lives or thinking they shouldn’t have to bc any person who happens to become famous or well known just sacrifices all privacy and basic respect I guess? (looking at u, anyone who sends things to deuxmoi).

Joe is just a 20something guy who is attractive, talented, charming and knows how to be on for an audience and seems to treat his fans well. He also is a pretty private guy who tends to purposefully not share much about his personal life and those in it, which I think then causes some fans to either try and mine online accounts and profiles to fill in the gaps (his spotfiy or the sm accounts of his friends and family) or just speculate and theorise based off tiny nuggets of info and rumors and run wild.

I think there’s also a real peak right now of people getting a serotonin boost off of engagement or attention for things like sending photos and ~exclusive~ info on a celeb into deuxmoi and getting posted or whatever goes on over on tiktok. I could write a whole essay on why I think things like gossip instas took celeb culture to the next (toxic) level, but my tl;dr is social media and people having camera phones existed before gossip instas, but there wasn’t necessarily a platform that had millions of followers and just serves as a conduit essentially where you could send in that pic of a celeb sighting or a baseless rumor and they just post it without thought. I feel like it’s also normalised treating actors/musicians/etc like zoo animals we’re trying to catch an elusive photo of in the wild or trade private info or stories as little nuggets of social capital to another level. There’s a dehumanisation to it and a commodification of information and photos of real people to trade like pokemon cards

Basically I think the mix of joe seeming like just some guy 🧍🏻‍♂️ who only like a year ago was relatively unknown and just living his life = approachable, attainable, just like us. I’m not saying he isn’t those things but in reality we know nothing about the actual real guy and he kinda now exists in a world that isn’t really accessible unless you’re part of it. Hi! I’m curious: if you had to be the obsession of one yandere from each of your favorite fandoms, who would you choose and why?

Oh, that’s such a good question! I hope I don’t forget any fandoms. (Every time a question like this comes up, I forget all of my interests, lol.) I’m going to go ahead and include a lot of fandoms in this post, regardless of how much I like the thing itself. (I’m clarifying this because you said “favorite fandoms” and these aren’t necessarily my favorites, lol.) Boy, here’s hoping I don’t learn anything about myself, answering this question. Okay, in no particular order:

Harry Potter:

Okay, I’m thinking Newt or Tom Riddle. Newt is really good at caretaking, he’s soft-spoken, and I know from Les Mis that Eddie Redmayne is able to sing (which, in my mind, means Newt can and he’d sing lullabies). Meanwhile, Tom is powerful and, pre-Horcruxes, not too bad-tempered. He’s got followers, which is good for many reasons; he’s not sadistic like Bellatrix; on the whole, he’s a fairly balanced yandere with a surprising number of benefits.

Or Fred and George; they’re prodigies at what they do (They’re pretty much inventors); they’d be self-aware and fun as yanderes; and also they’re canonically kind of ruthless. Yeah, I think I’m settling on Fred and George for this one.

Twilight: 

By the metric of appearance, Seth or Caius. But if I’m taking everything into consideration, maybe Demetri? His power has great yandere potential that would only backfire on me if I’d already escaped, which I probably wouldn’t manage anyway, since I’m a human. He’s high enough in the Volturi that I’d be safe from most everything, but not one of the main three, which is good because I think being Caius or Marcus’s mate would invite a lot of scrutiny from Aro (and he killed Didyme), and being Aro’s might invite sassiness from Caius; just generally, I wouldn’t want to get in on whatever bond they have unless it was a poly thing where they all cared about me. Also, I’d rather avoid Aro’s power if possible, though I suppose having him be yandere for me would be like empirical evidence that even my entire history of thoughts is attractive, which would boost my ego to an absurd degree. You know what, maybe Aro. 

Then there’s also Benjamin, who has a chill personality, awesome power (especially since fire is the thing that kills vampires; being able to control it is like extra immortality on top of the existing immortality), and the innate freedom of not being a part of the Volturi. Yet, if he were to be recruited by the Volturi, you know he’d be as high-ranking as Demetri, if not higher. Again, safety. Demetri, Benjamin, or Aro, on the vampire side. (No Cullens, since they’ve actively provoked the Volturi and I don’t trust their ability to keep me safe. If Cullens were on the table, though, Jasper and Alice.)

Wolf-wise, I feel like Leah would be a really considerate and protective yandere, and since she’s the fastest of the wolves, I think she could get me out of most danger. Maybe Jared, since the only things I know about him are that he has a sense of humor and he can be SUPER manipulative (Like, that “Lee-lee” thing from Breaking Dawn was ruthless.), and that’s a valuable skill in a yandere’s tool belt. But ultimately I guess I would have to choose Jacob, since any of them would be physically unable to disobey him, even under yandere circumstances, so there’s no guarantee they would protect me no matter how much they wanted to. (Also I wouldn’t have to go through the turning process, if I’m with a wolf instead of a vampire.)

Final answer, Aro, Benjamin, or Jacob.

The Hunger Games:

Boy, I would say Snow, because I know he would pull strings for me and give gifts and stuff, but I also feel like he’d be kind of a selfish yandere. Like, he’d be kind when it’s convenient, but he’d ultimately be looking out for his own happiness. I love Finnick, but I feel like yandere traits for him would manifest too selflessly; like, I’d be worried about Finnick, as a yandere. Johanna “There’s no one left I love” Mason would be fiercely protective, but not worryingly selfless. She’d be clingy and spirited and probably beat some people up over me.

Divergent: 

Definitely Peter! He stabbed a guy in the eye in canon! He’s got an intersection of creepy and pragmatic going on, kind of like a human version of Jasper from Twilight, but without the racial baggage. I get that a lot of people thirst after Eric, and Eric definitely has more power than Peter, but his personality doesn’t interest me.

Percy Jackson:

Percy or Leo. Powers and personalities are perfect for yandere. Nico and Will, if they’re bi; I’m not caught up on Trials of Apollo, so I’m not sure.

WAIT, maybe Reyna?? The confidence, the metal dogs...Yeah, Reyna is awesome, too.

Descendants: 

Harry, Uma, and Gil as a unit. Just all three of them at once. They’re pirates, they’re already so steamy and intense about their relationships in canon (or Harry and Uma are, at least), and they’re all very attractive. If I had to choose one, I think Uma. Or Ben, since he’s a really nice guy with a strong moral compass, at least in the first movie (meaning a yandere interpretation of him would most likely become extreme in his morals, rather than corrupt), and he’s the king.

Detroit Become Human:

(I’m literally only making this a category because I find it unbelievable that any yandere Markus is characterized as, like, a rough and dominant yandere.) Markus was a caretaking android for an old man; he would be very loving, understanding, and supportive. His revolutionary energy is not turned against his loved ones. Nothing in canon suggests he would ever be rough with someone he loves. (Connor, meanwhile, is an android cop who is rough with his friends in canon, but lots of fan works characterize him as soft. Puzzling. Maybe uncomfortable, from a racial standpoint, since Markus is a man of color.) 

Also, Ralph is the absolute perfect mix of well-meaning and delusional and intense. Ralph is perfect as a yandere. Why isn’t there more yandere Ralph?? I love Ralph.

And also Jerry, because he’s cheerful and there’s a lot of him. Just a thousand of this one guy, all in love with one person? Yandere gold.

Undertale:

Sans. Or Asgore. Let’s move on. 😅

Legacy of Orïsha:

Roën. Easy. Another pirate, with emotional intelligence and a sense of humor! Self-aware but with a loose moral compass. I love him.

Having thought it through, either Jet or Mai; Jet is a charming yet hot-headed rebel, and we’ve already seen what it’s like when he’s like when he takes his ideals to an extreme. He would absolutely flood a town for his loved one, which, now that I’m saying it, shouldn’t be phrased like a desired outcome, but we’re talking yandere here, so it’s fine. 

Mai, meanwhile, would seem dry and casual while also doing the most. She would be satisfied with just sitting in silence, which is chill. And given her wealth, she might ‘gilded cage’ me. Then again, she’s not very forthcoming with praise or positivity in general.

MCU:

Listen, I really dislike Wanda in canon, but Wanda and Vision would be the best yanderes. Their powers, Wanda’s tendency to not take responsibility for her actions, there’s a lot there. And, like, she’s generally nice to people she cares about (and Vision is a Mjolnir-lifting sweetheart); she’s pretty much exactly right to be a yandere.

Maybe Nebula, since I want to give Nebula a hug and let her win at tic tac toe or something. She would fire the very biggest guns at anyone who made themself a threat to me, but one-on-one she’s so soft and frank and I love her.

(I want to say M’Baku because Winston Duke seems so lovely, but M’Baku the character seems too strict; we’ve never seen him with a loved one.)

Regé being “ungrateful” and “too big for his britches” while Phoebe is the thankful, humble one is so blatant. Between this and Marina, the Bridgerton fandom is never not anti-Black.

When they asked RJP to return he was like the biggest star in the world, and surely fielding a lot of offers. Phoebe comparatively didn’t seem to be getting as much as a boost. As a Black actor he has to strike while the iron is hot. Pretending it’s about egos and not business and career decisions is so stupid. And we’re not in these peoples minds. Speculating how he feels about the show when RJP has never been anything but professional??

It would be laughable if it wasn’t gross. Regardless of how things turn out for RJP in the end, he was definitely a very hot commodity at the time, and there were a lot of opportunities. Some of those may fizzle out; some may not. But they definitely would’ve fizzled out had he shown up for a second season to play pall mall and have a glass of cognac with Anthony while nodding and listening to him talk about his girl problems. You have to strike while the iron is hot in TV and film, ESPECIALLY if you are a Black actor, as you said.

The thing is that because acting is something that is promoted as emotional and artistic (and it can be) we romanticize what are often business decisions. Look at the Elvis movie coming out—I’m sure Austin Butler cares deeply about getting the look and sound of Elvis right and being praised for his performance, but he ultimately…… gets a big lift from the role professionally. That equals money. Very few people, including artists, want to be less successful or make less money.

It’s simple: no matter how much time you have to work on something else while you’re on a show, you will have more time if you’re not on it. You look better, unless you’re a highly established respected mainstay, if you’re in a prominent role. If you’re a lead in one season and downgraded to a cameo in the next, either nobody cares or they see it as the downgrade that it is.

Lol has anyone considered the fact that Phoebe just didn’t get the offers that he did? And regardless of whether or not you see that as fair (I’m personally not weeping into my soup for her as she seems fine) she had more time and inclination to do this than others? Maybe she thought it a wise career move to go back because she wasn’t getting that hype, and not because she has a deep desire to return to Bridgerton and gasp while stumbling upon sexy people doing sexy things? I don’t get how she’s this humble and grateful person when she’s just…. Doing a job. We read way too much into this shit in general, like?

And finally…. I don’t know why anyone who wants JB and Simone to be the focus of this show would want RJP back. If he was back, you can bet he’d be the object of the promo. You’d get plenty of “enough of them, I want the Duke” from casual viewers. He would pull focus. To me it reads like people actually just want him back so he can ensure that the show gets good ratings and their faves, whether they’re in s2 or future seasons, get the attention they think they deserve. I don’t see why his career has to fall on the sword to ensure that Bridgerton gets good ratings lmao. The show benefited from him; he benefited from the show. Can we just stop with this shit?
