*slides into your DMs* hey babe so are you a "life has been unfair to and filled with abuse" traumatized or a "consumed by loss regret and guilt" traumatized?
#text post#trauma#i saw something and started thinking about this earlier#because i feel like i often see people from the former group around and they're quite bitter. and justifiably so.#but over here in second group corner i'm like yeah man i have no sense of ego anymore i deserve all of the bad things.#and we like actively self-sabotage ourselves as a weird form of punishment too because how dare me be happy.#and logically i know that's bs. and yet feelings operate as they do.#but i know so many people who are so done with people's bullshit and ready to throw down and stand up for themselves#and i'm like damn i admire that fighting spirit.#and from what i can tell from the people i know it's often fueled by their own experiences with people who treated them wrong#but when nobody has treated you wrong but instead you yourself are the cause of all of the bad things then WELL FUCK ME#which is why posts that are meant to like pump yourself up to go stand up for yourself are so alien to me.#or stuff saying that it's totally fine to just be angry and hold grudges at people and i'm like well i don't relate to this at all#if anything it kinda makes me feel worse about myself in some weird way#since i'm the only person i could perceive as hateable.#the whole ''fuck the world i don't owe anyone anything and i should focus on my own happiness first'' mentality is great and all but#almost a direct opposite to what's going on in my head at all times.#i feel like i could dedicate my entire life to try and make the world a better place and i still couldn't justify my existence.#and i don't mean to anyone in particular. just to myself.#but this is on itself a selfish issue formed entirely on my own emotions.#... which just makes it worse.#so yeah.

The REAL reason Toji has major beef with Gojo is because Gojo had a crush on you during his high school days when you would sub for Yaga in the classroom and training sessions. He did try his best to keep it under wraps but Geto was like,
"Bro, she's the same age as Yaga-sensei. . . Stop reaching, Satoru. . . Do I need to remind you who (L/N)-sama is married to again?"
The Gojo responded with, "Suguru, I don't give a shit about that loser. He's a bum, anyway. The question you should be asking is why (L/N)-dono is fucking married and still in-love to a deadbeat like him. I would have been a better option. Face it Suguru, I'm right."
While Satoru has a point, as Suguru noted, it doesn't change the fact that Satoru was crushing on a MARRIED woman who had TWO kids.
Though it was true, Satoru would have technically been a good husband/father/lover. However, there are many reasons why it must be ruled out.
Satoru is over half your age. Picking him meant allegations and a prison cell. Gojo tried reasoning with you, "But (Y/N)-dono! Age is just a number, give me two years!" "And Prison is just a place, Satoru-kun. I don't want to be labeled as a child predator, let alone be framed for "seDuCinG" the Gojo heir. I want to have a clean record."
While his personality brought you happiness, his carefree nature would clash a lot with you. He can mature but his child-like spirit and carefree persona isn't something you would personally deal with.
He was more of your protégé/junior/student if anything. You saw him more as your son and acted like a parental figure. You wanted to watch him grow and mature. Not become his lover.
To spite the higher-ups and Jujutsu elders(excluding your clan). Given you were a powerful and skillful sorcerer, marrying Gojo would be "BeNeFiCiaL" to Jujutsu society. However, it meant that you were on a watchlist 24/7 and pressured to have an HeIR. It made you physically sick and ill thinking what those old useless dementia white-haired cowards are allow to do that just to better "society" but not its citizens.
You are MARRIED to a man who is trying to step up after his major fuck ups. It's not perfect but Toji is his best trying after you gave him his life and freedom. Since he technically can't leave your home or go to Jujutsu High without your supervision, he's basically househusband duty. And he was getting pretty damn good at it too. Plus Toji's hot, he got you feral and gnawing at your teeth with his signature smile and smirk. And the way his arms flex when he crosses them, or how they feel when you link arms together.
While it wasn't super obvious, okay it was obvious, you always shot down Satoru's playful confessions and light-hearted shenanigans. Basically rejecting him every time. Usually, Suguru would warn you in advance but you know it would happen with each interactions. While you firmly turned him down, you made him understand why it can't and WON'T happen. You still care for him, just never romantically, only platonically and motherly. You made it clear that his "love" for you was just a strong admiration and infatuation disguised as a crush.
Though he was heartbroken, at first. Satoru slowly understand what you mean and his crush slowly fades away as it's replaced with immense respect for you.
HOWEVER, it still linger and not widely known because Toji finally gets word of this through the grapevine. A.K.A, through his two children Megumi and Tsumiki. It happened one day when you brought the two to the school so you can keep a close eye on them since they didn't have school that day. Toji was out doing errands so the two kids are accompanying you. Megumi and Tsumiki were occupied with their books and toys while you taught and trained the students. Megumi and Tsumiki went to find you because they were hungry and you had their lunches. As they looked for you, they see you talking to Satoru. They meet him a couple of times but he's still a stranger to them compared to Shoko or Suguru. So when they see Gojo with you, all alone with no one around, they thought it was major sus.
As they snuck closer, they could hear bit and pieces of what Gojo is saying to you. Megumi lowkey thinks Gojo is super annoying and acts more of a child then he does. But what catches his ears first was something with along the lines of, "(L/N)-dono, please consider it-" "Satoru-kun, how many time will I need to say no to you? You know I can never feel for you that way. Plus it's bad for me to agree to it. You know that it's admiration and infatuation if anything. Not love."
See Megumi knows you only use love as in 'I love you" to him, his sister, and his dad. But to this dude? Nah, something fishy is going on and Megumi gotta tell his dad about it. Megumi comes running, yelling "Mommy!!!". You and Satoru turn to see your son running to you and colliding with your legs. You crouch down and pat your son's head and smile at your daughter following behind him. Megumi hands your hand tightly as you lead them away to have lunch with your kids. Satoru made a face at Megumi when he saw the kid glare at him.
Once you three made it home, you're in the bathroom changing into some home clothes. Meanwhile, Toji was cooking dinner while Megumi and Tsumiki were waiting for you at the dinner table. As Toji was asking them about their day with you, Megumi brought up Gojo's advances and confession towards you. When Megumi said this, the beef Toji was about to flip plopped right back onto the pan. He looks back at Megumi and asks if there's anything else that he can share. As Megumi shares what he has seen through his perspective, Toji asks Tsumiki to confirm is this is all true, to which she said yes, backing up Megumi's claims.
"Yeah, Papa. Satoru-kun is weird. Even though Mama keeps saying she's married to you, he still does it. Tsumiki saw it too."
"I see... Thank you, Megumi and Tsumiki for watching and taking care of Mama for me. I appreciate it a lot. Can you tell her that dinner is almost ready?"
The kids nodded and went to go get you. After dinner and putting the kids to bed, you were sipping your favorite drink as Toji is doing the dishes. You would have helped him but he said no. While you two were talking, he brings up Satoru and his school crush on you.
"Toji, beloved, you know that it's just a small crush. It's nothing more then puppy love for me. Nothing more and nothing less. And you know that you're the only man that I am willing to give my heart to."
"I know that, (Y/N). But what does this brat got on me to think he's a better match for you? Just because this kid is practically a god doesn't mean everyone will bow down to him. I'm definitely not one of them. And to know that said brat is flirting with you even though you're visibly married with kids, he needs to read the room. I will be going with you to school tomorrow. The kids go back to school the next day, and I already got this week's groceries and cleaned the house."
You would have protested if Toji didn't give you a searing kiss while caging you in his arms. Fuck he looked so hot. Curse him and his good looks *punching the air*.
"Fine, you can come. BUT, Toji you need to behavior yourself. You already knew the deal. You better not be doing any funny business."
"Yes, Ma'am. You're the boss, I promise you." Toji says as he gave you a kiss on the cheek before lightly patting your ass.
After dropping the kids off, Toji accompanies you to the school. Toji is just silent and sits in one of the chairs as you do your lessons. Toji is leaning on the chair with a smirk plastered on his face. Not a care in the world. After a few lessons, you were going to teach and train Gojo, Geto, and Shoko for the rest of the school day. As you went to their classroom, they greet you, especially Gojo. However, the mood changed when they saw Toji walk in behind you, wearing nothing but a black slim fit t-shirt and grey sweatpants. Toji gave a head nod to the teens while he just takes a seat in a chair to lean on it. The three were shock to see him.
Particularly because they did expect him to come with you to the school at all. Suguru had an idea but he hoped it wasn't going to be it. After teaching a lesson, you told the three to practice their curse techniques and let their curse energy loose. While doing so, you told them that you would have to speak to Yaga for a bit on something and would be back 15 minutes tops. You told Toji to behave, and he nodded and gave a thumbs up. As you leave the kids and your husband on the train grounds, that's when the storm started brewing. Toji walks up to Gojo and is 3 feet from him. He smirks while looking at him up and down, sizing him up. Shoko and Suguru are on the sidelines as Toji, a married adult male in his 30s, was beefing with a 16 year old high school student.
Suguru: "Satoru, I don't think this is a good idea-"
Satoru: "Hush now, Suguru. . . It's my time to shine. . . Watch the master at work."
Suguru proceeds to roll his eyes but becomes a little weary after his last encounter with Toji was. . . unideal. Given one of their teachers was shot in the throat by Toji saving Anamai, and himself getting injured. It wasn't something he wanted to constantly get reminded of. But ever since you liberated Toji from the higher ups and explained it to your students, Suguru has slowly been changing his views on Toji. It will take a while but it's getting there. Anyhow, Suguru told Shoko to book it once the two were going to throw down.
Satoru: "So, what brings you back here, Toji~? You just couldn't get me out of that little mind of yours~? You're mad I'm 1-0 with you?"
Toji: "Kid, I'm pretty sure that it's 1-1 since I won our first battle. Anyway, I heard through the grapevine that you gave (Y/N) a love confession. Don't you know it's bad to confess and hit on a married woman who has kids? Were you taught any manners? Then again, by the way you act, you probably have none."
Satoru: "You're just mad, Old Man. That I, Satoru Gojo, would treat (Y/N)-dono better and treat her worth. Face it, Old Man. I'm a better match for her than you'll ever be."
Toji: "Like she ever goes for someone half her age, Brat. Plus, you'll never look at you as a lover ever. You're more of a son to her and that's the closest you'll get."
Satoru: "Well, she doesn't need a bum like you around. Imagine fighting a bunch of teens and getting your ass beat by said teens. Skill issue if you ask me."
Toji: "Watch your tongue, Boy. Remember who made you struggle for the first time in your life and actually killed you. While, you know, fucking up your best friend, the second strongest sorcerer, with no curse energy? I got your ass with no gifts other than being a superhuman with weapons. You can never beat me, I'm just built different, Kid."
Satoru: "You wanna test that, Toji~? You got no curse weapons with you. I can pack you up like you're a school lunch."
Toji: "Kid, please. I don't need any weapons to beat you, let alone kill you. You see this? This is a rock, and I can use it to beat you. I also still have my hands too. And I am more then willing to give it to you, Gojo~kun."
Satoru: "You think I'm scared of someone like you? I've ascended, enlighten if you will. If you even know what that word is. Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one. Remember those words, Fushiguro-san? Remember them good because I will put you six feet underground."
Toji: "I see then, Kid. . . So you're playing God? I guess that makes me a God Slayer then. . . Prepare yourself, Kid. . ."
Satoru: "Alright, bet then, Bozo."
Thus, Gojo and Toji started to go at each other for round 3. Shoko was already gone and the two started fighting in the training grounds. Five minutes have already passed and they have made five decently sized craters. Just as both of them were about to throw a punch at each other, they suddenly felt a powerful presence which halted them. They turn to you walking towards them with a furious face unimaginable.
"GOJO SATORU AND TOJI (L/N) FUSHIGURO!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?!?! I LEAVE FOR LESS THAN HALF AN HOUR AND I GET CALLED BACK BECAUSE OF THIS!?!?"
"(Y/N)-dono!!"
"(Y/N)!"
You moved like a blur and appeared next to them vice gripping their forearms tightly. You dragged them to the nearest empty classroom you can find or any room. You were just so livid that you didn't hear Gojo whining about your grip and asking to let you go like a child. As you let them go once you dragged them far enough, you smacked both of them hard on the head. Shoko and Gojo were watching this as Yaga appeared right next to them shortly. It was interesting seeing two of the most broken people in the world kneeling with their heads down in-front of a woman who doesn't have god-like abilities.
"GOJO, WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT USING BOTH OF YOUR ABILITIES DURING TRAINING SESSIONS!?!? YOU KNOW THE CALAMITY AND DAMAGE YOU COULD'VE CAUSED!?"
"BUT (Y/N)-dono! He-"
"NO BUTS, GOJO!! AND YOU, TOJI, I LITERALLY JUST SAID NO FUNNY BUSINESS AND YOU'RE ABOUT TO CREATE THE NEXT SECOND COMING OF CHRIST. I DON'T NEED ANOTHER RAPTURE HERE. I'M STILL DEALING WITH THE AFTERMATH FROM THE TWO OF YOU AS IT IS!!!"
"Okay, Hon. I take full responsibility for my actions today."
"YOU BETTER, TOJI!!! YOU'RE A FULL GROWN MARRIED MAN WITH TWO KIDS!!!"
"But (Y/N)-dono, I was not going to kill him last time-"
"NO ONES DYING HERE!!! NEITHER OF YOU WILL NOT DIE AS LONG AS I AM AROUND. I WON'T LET THE BOTH OF YOU KILL EACH OTHER OVER SOME PETTINESS AND A BOY CRUSH."
You start to calm down but you are still firm with them.
"I know this started because of Satoru's crush on me. . . Satoru, I will not love you romantically and date you. Please understand that. I care for you like family and that is said for the rest of you. Yes you, Suguru, Shoko, and Yaga. And Toji, I'm not leaving you for a child. I would be in jail and not working here. . . Geez, I saw this from a mile away but never expected this to happen. Now, you two better behave yourselves or else. You two don't have to say sorry or anything like of the sort. Just don't go tearing at each other's throats when I both am and am not around. Please, for me. . ."
The two looked at each other before saying a soft yeah. After that, Yaga told you to go home early and he would take it from there. You had to patch up Toji a bit but it wasn't anything of concern. From then on, Toji and Gojo just banter and bicker with each other. It's funny to watch except for Megumi since he's seeing his dad beefing with his unofficial adoptive older brother 24/7.
Satoru eventually grows out of his crush for (Y/N) but Suguru and Shoko never let him down. Hell, it's a running gag in the school about Gojo's old crush on you. Gojo always gets super embarrassed about it, especially when you join in but it's all fun and games with you all.
The only person who genuinely hates it is Megumi because the thought of Gojo having romantic feelings for you and trying to woo you made Megumi visibly ill and sick to his core. He would lowkey help his dad beat up Gojo if Gojo's crush on you became serious again.

Kept Up
Summary: Sleep doesn't seem doable while you miss a certain blonde.
Contains: Slight worrying
Author's note: Pretty sure the ideas I've outlined before this are side-eyeing me as I post this one. But I'm also pretty sure those ideas (not calling them wips because there's no progress) would probably not see the light of day.
Taglist: @friskyfisher (I remembered your comment regarding this so I did! But to be certain, is this still okay?)

Call her.
Don't.
Just try.
She's probably busy.
There's an active war going through your head while you lay in bed, your phone clutched in your chest.
You're tired from today's events, to summarize it all up, yet sleep seems hellbent on evading you. You were doing well this past week, adjusting fairly to the fact that you're cities away from her, so why must this happen now? And why must the yearning be so deeply rooted that it's physically preventing you from doing anything?
What's more frustrating is that the relationship isn't new. It's been going on for almost three years now, so you're honestly blindsided by the shyness you're feeling all over.
Just do it.
What if she's preoccupied?
It's just a video chat!
There's still a possibility of disrupting her.
You forcefully shut your eyes, willing your own thoughts to die down. Your head throbs at the internal back and forth, and all you can do is massage your temple in an attempt to soothe yourself.
A text, you decided. You'll shoot her a text and see if she's busy. That's as good a place as any to start.
'Baby, are you busy?'
Before you can overthink it, you've already hit the send button, staring at your screen for a bit before lowering the phone back to its former place.
You waited, and it felt longer than it should have been. Maybe because you've been fighting yourself with this for a good, solid time. Maybe because you were silently hoping she's free. Maybe because you're slowly feeling ridiculous. Maybe it's all that and more. Whatever it is, you're starting to feel restless, more than what the exhaustion has brought upon your spent body.
The vibration you felt in your hand accompanied by your ringtone felt like a huge relief. You eagerly unlocked the phone, reading her reply.
'Just finishing some email, my love. Everything alright?'
You felt the immediate dip in your spirit, feeling like it's the end of the world. She's busy. You've always admired her diligence, how she's on top of everything most of the time, but right now it looks like an opponent of your want, and you very much dislike it.
'Oh, okay!'
The exclamation point was purposefully put in place so she wouldn't think much of your message. You feel more frozen in place after that. You honestly can't pinpoint what's making you hold yourself back. Is it because this is the first time you've been away ever since the relationship blossomed? Were you so accustomed to her presence that you're finding it difficult to part from her? Is it because you can't immediately tell if it's alright to get her attention? Perhaps it's finally settling in that it's been a week since you've felt her skin on yours, and your heart isn't taking such realization lightly. You miss her so damn much, your heart is aching for her.
It's... it's okay. You got this. Just a few more days and you'll–
Ring... ring... ring!
Your ringtone pulled you out of your supposed comforting of yourself, the vibrations thrumming in your hand. The name of the caller made your heartbeat flutter, the phone quickly finding its place in your ear once you've accepted the call.
"Hi" you whispered, awaiting her voice on the other end of the line.
"Hi, darling. What's the matter?"
A deep inhale was immediately breathed in the moment you heard her voice. God, you miss her. Truly and achingly so, that her voice seemed to alleviate some of the heaviness you feel.
You were silent for a beat before attempting to shrug everything away. "Just wanted to see if you're still up. You ought to sleep by now, you know?"
Play everything off all you want, but she knew something was up. She knows you and could completely read between the lines, or in this case, caught on the fact that you didn't answer her question twice now.
"I'll be off when I'm done. How about you?" You can practically imagine her sitting in her chair, her other arm supporting the one that's holding her phone close to her ear, while fully leaning back on the backrest.
"Already in bed."
Larissa acknowledges your answer with a hum, debating whether to poke again or just wait for you to spill it out.
Silence. There was silence and it stretched out, making her think you've fallen asleep until she faintly hears what could have been you clearing your throat.
"Rissa?" you asked, hesitance coating your already small voice.
"Sweetheart?" comes quickly, and you can't help how the endearment makes your heart soar.
"Can I... can we do video call?" There. That wasn't so hard now, is it? Out in the open. You unconsciously held your breath, afraid it's loud enough that you'll miss her response.
There wasn't one though, so you check to see if the call was somehow ended the exact moment that Larissa's name appeared, an incoming request of what you've asked for displayed on your screen.
You hurriedly accepted, rolling in your side to sandwich the phone between your hand and the bed. There she was, in her late night, still working glory. It's beyond you how she still managed to look so beautiful even when she's tired. Blessed by the higher beings, you supposed.
"Hey" you greeted, giving her a small wave of your hand.
She smiled at you, returning the wave with her own while she set her phone up in the best place she could prop it.
"Any reason you wanted to see me?" Her voice was tinted with a teasing tone, and you can't help the breathless little laugh you let out despite your tired state.
"Just because."
The comfort that the bed should have brought the moment you laid down finally washes over you. You released a contented sigh, this will tide you over.
"Seems like someone misses me, huh?"
"You don't have any idea just how much, baby." There was no point in denying, and you weren't really keen on doing so. Your gaze never left your phone, taking in every chance to look at her.
"Is this okay? Am I not bothering you?" There it was again. You were uncharacteristically shy and worried, which she has picked up on ever since you've asked for the call. What she's wondering though is the why. You seem alright the last time you've talked, so something must have happened.
She waved your concern away. She liked this set up even better since it has you on it. "You're never a bother, my darling."
That melted all the worrying you've had, a gentle smile appearing after her reassurance while she continued working on the email she was in before she called you.
The clacking of her keyboard as she typed was the only sound audible on both your ends, and you silently watched her while hugging a pillow. It went on just like that, and soon sleep seems to finally be on your side. Your eyes flutter close, your vision slowly becoming a blur that you haven't noticed your girlfriend watching you slowly accept it.
Once she's sure you've fallen asleep, she quickly finished the last email for tonight so she herself can rest. She didn't end the call, wanting to pretend that you're by her side. She misses you too, and Larissa can't wait until you're back in her arms once again.

Broken Wings - Part Two
What's this? A second chapter one year after the first? More fic writing from me in the same week? Idk guys, I'm just riding the motivation wave as far as it'll take me...
Thrawn x pilot!reader | 2.5k words
Content warnings: Cursing, only a little Thrawn/reader interaction (slow burn anyone?), also I gave the reader tattoos for funsies
< Previous Part | Masterlist | Next Part >
Tumblr media
Hangar 12 was massive. Not even the largest rebel hideout could equal this space you found yourself in. TIE fighters hung from their docks in the ceiling while larger transport ships were lined neatly along the slick floors. And there was still plenty of room to spare. Room to reconfigure the ships in a thousand different formations and never run the risk of them crashing into each other.
Thus, the set up of a little podium and rows of chairs in the middle of the hangar was comical. It looked like furniture for a dollhouse. The pilots milling around the chairs seemed tiny, too, the details of their faces and flight suits barely remarkable when compared to the expanse of metal and space surrounding them.
You stood by one of the entrances to the hangar, having just emerged from a hallway into the location you were instructed to be in this fine morning. Well, a biological morning, anyway. Here there were no suns, no atmospheric skies with clouds or stars, no indications of whether you should be awake or at rest. Here, time did not exist. The viewport at the end of the hangar boasted of a vast outer space, likely deep within the Empire's control, far from the places you were used to. And yet, it still stirred that itch within you, the desire to go into it. To explore. To fly.
"Oh good, you've made it."
A flash of blue and white appeared in your periphery. You quickly closed your eyes, as if by not seeing him, he couldn't see you in return. You'd been dreading this moment, but your damned curiosity compelled you to show up anyway.
"I will introduce you to your squadron," Thrawn spoke to you anyway, not commenting on your lame attempt to hide from the situation. "They are among the Empire's best pilots, though still not close to your level of expertise. For now you will set the standards for their training, help them understand what is required. But I expect to see intensive training within the cockpit soon."
There was a pause before he spoke again, one simple, inquiring word. "Captain?"
You opened your eyes. Everything from before was still there: the ships, the tiny pilots, the viewport into darkness. But now added to the view was the imposing form of the Grand Admiral, looking down at you with those piercing red eyes, waiting for you to agree to being on board.
"I didn't realize titles transferred across war lines," you said in response.
Thrawn did not seem phased by the venom you put behind your words. Or perhaps you hadn't put in enough for him detect. You weren't exactly in pique form at the moment, your body still feeling like it'd been wrung through a trash compactor a few times. The rest and rehab you'd received the day before was far from rejuvenating your fighting spirit.
"The goal is to have you become Flight Commander for the squadron. But we'll retain your title of Captain for now, until you prove yourself. Even if it creates more paperwork for my staff."
He nodded slightly behind you and you turned to find a few officers standing nearby.
"This is Officer Amara Tilde, the fleet's logistics liaison. And Sergeant Lou Mam, from the Chimaera's tactical division. They'll be overseeing the training and provide assistance where needed."
While you were arguing against the small voice in your head that sounded strangely like your mother's, telling you to be polite and smile or nod at the two in acknowledgement, Thrawn continued.
"But for all intents and purposes, the squadron will report to you. As their leader."
"Like it or not," you heard Sergeant Mam mutter under his breath.
If Thrawn also heard, he ignored it, instead turning to indicate he was ready to proceed with this grand plan of his. "If you are ready, Captain, we'll begin."
"And if I'm not ready?" you couldn't help but ask.
One corner of Thrawn's mouth twitched upward. "Then you'll have roughly a hundred meters to gear yourself up, Captain."
And with that, he set off, striding confidently into that dark and massive hangar, his staff members falling in to flank him on either side. You found your feet guiding you to follow along, making you ponder with each step what you were doing here and how you could possibly get free.
"At attention!" called out Sergeant Mam as they approached the group of pilots.
There was a rustle of boots, with a small squeak or two, as the pilots hurried into proper standing positions in front of their chairs. Thrawn and his two officers strode past them toward the podium, but you chose to hang back just behind, out of view. For one, you were still in denial and any little thing you could do to delay the inevitable, be it closing your eyes or pausing in your steps, you would shamelessly do. But for another, that short trek from the door to the middle of the hangar already had you beat. Your body had not fully healed from your crash just a few days ago, and what little rehab you'd done so far to gain mobility back did not prepare you even for a walk. Your body felt flushed, heated, and you were pathetically out of breath.
"At ease," the Sergeant stated as he took his place behind the podium. Thrawn and the other officer stood off to the side, the former giving you a questioning look that you didn't know how to answer from this distance.
The pilots relaxed into their chairs at the command.
"As you all know, you have been selected as the top graduates from the Academy to serve in this special training unit aboard the ISD Chimaera...."
As the Sergeant spoke, you couldn't help but unzip the top of your flight suit and shake at the fabric a bit, trying to get a breeze onto your sweating skin.
"Training?" one of the pilots interrupted, apparently interpreting the at ease command a little too loosely. "We were told Special Forces Unit."
"Indeed, you will become a force to be reckoned with. But first we must train you to get there."
There were grumbles and whispers but you weren't focusing too much on the scene. You still felt too hot. Confined. Trapped. Screw it, you thought, and pulled the zipper all the way down and shimmied out of the sleeves. The top of your suit now hung at your waist, leaving your top half in only a black tank top. Your tattoos would be showing now, as well as the many bruises and barely-scarred wounds you'd recently sustained. Even amongst the rebel forces you'd be considered indecent. But at least you now felt just a little freer.
"With all due respect, sir," another pilot spoke up, "we already received our training, at the Academy."
"Yeah," a third chimed in. "We're enlisted soldiers now. Not cadets."
"And not only that, we're the best," said another. "You said it yourself. Top of our class. What else could we possibly have to learn?"
You couldn't see their faces but you could hear their smirks. Oh, these were cocky SOBs. Something stirred in you at their behavior, very similar to the feeling you got whenever you looked up at the sky or out the viewport into space. In fact, one could argue the two feelings often went hand-in-hand. You had an insatiable desire to fly, yes, but also to prove others wrong. These smug pilots, fresh from the Academy, with their clean suits and fresh haircuts, thought they were on top of the world. But they didn't know what it was like to be in an active war zone. To feel pressure in the cockpit. To be faced with impossible decisions. They had a lot left to learn.
Thrawn chose this moment to step forward, and the murmuring of the crowd quieted down.
"The Academy has prepared you well enough," Thrawn addressed them with that quiet confidence you'd already grown used to. "But we can no longer afford to settle for only enough. The Rebels are growing in their strength and number, and most importantly, in their skill. Do you know who the best fighter pilot is at the moment?"
There was a silence as the pilots looked around to each other. One happened to catch you from the corner of his eye. He frowned in confusion at your presence before turning back around.
"A Captain in the Rebel forces," Thrawn answered his own question, following it up with your name. There was murmuring as some seemed to recognize the name. You weren't sure if you should feel flattered that your reputation preceded you.
"Can any of you confidently say you are better than her?" Thrawn threw out another question but this time didn't wait for a potential response. "No. You are not the best. But, you can be trained by the best. And then there may be hope for the Empire yet."
The pilot who'd noticed you before swung back around to look at you, starting to piece two and two together. You figured this was about as good a time as any to finally push yourself forward.
The whispers returned as you came into view, shuffling amongst seats to get a better look at your disheveled appearance. Or perhaps just your presence in and of itself. They were in as much disbelief as you were over the situation.
One pilot was a little slower than the others and called out, "Who the hell is this?"
Thrawn cooly responded, "The best," before stepping back to give you room.
You took in a deep breath, mostly to get your panting under control, and a little to calm the nerves. You were surrounded by enemies, you reminded yourself. These pilots meant nothing to you. You had nothing to prove to them.
And yet, the itching inside continued.
"Is this a joke?" You recognized the voice as the first pilot who had spoken up. He was a handsome guy, round face and clear skin. His smirk was as mischievous as you'd pictured it earlier.
"I wish it were," you said, hating how your voice betrayed your physical exhaustion.
The pilot didn't seem to know how to respond to that, so the one sitting next to him spoke up instead.
"So you're telling me this Rebel twat knows more about flying than we do?" She seemed to be questioning one of the officers or Thrawn himself, but her eyes were fixed on you.
"There's no need to be vulgar, Heva," the one who'd noticed you earlier spoke up, albeit in a soft tone. "She is the best..."
"For a Rebel," Heva scoffed, settling back in her seat with arms crossed. "Which isn't saying much, now, is it?"
You desperately wanted to scratch the itch, to put these MF-ers in their place, but you'd need to pace yourself. Battles weren't won in a day, as you unfortunately knew firsthand.
"Test me," you said, straightening up a little.
This earned you a mix of snorts and incredulous smirks.
"Alright," Heva sniffed. "How do you reprogram a misaligned targeting system mid-flight? Smoke is coming from the underside of a TIE starfighter cockpit, what has been damaged? Do you use concussion missiles or proton torpedoes against a particle shield?"
You noted her questions were specific to Imperial tech, things you would likely not know about. But even if you did, they were hardly the most important things to be quizzed on, so you didn't feel particularly demeaned like she probably hoped.
You hummed. "I confess, I don't know."
Heva wore a self-satisfied grin while a few snickered around her.
"Now let me ask you something," you continued, not letting them enjoy their petty victory for long. "You're flanked between two enemy crafts and no wiggle room on either side. Ahead is a building, or some other obstacle, where impact would be fatal. What do you do?"
Some of the pilots seemed to be considering the question while others, like Heva and the pretty boy next to her, were more reluctant to play along.
"How far away?" asked the soft-spoken one.
You looked out across the hangar. "Let's say... from here to the viewport. A hundred meters?"
"Wait them out" said the pretty pilot, and it was then you noticed he had some chewing gum in his mouth, further accentuating his blasé attitude. "The enemy craft won't risk a collision either. As soon as they peel off, you follow."
"They're Rebels," you pointed out. "Some of the crazier ones. Flyers who know how to bank last minute and won't let you breathe for an inch. You can wait to bank with them, but if you're even a hair's length out of sync, you'll collide."
"Pull up sooner," someone shouted out.
"Collision," you asserted. "They're flanking, not mirroring. You won't fall far enough back before they do, too."
"Alright then, Best Pilot in the Galaxy," sneered Heva. "What do you do? Or are you trying to use a trick question to make yourself sound smarter?"
You took in a measured breath to maintain your composure. "You drop. Kill the engine, drop a few meters, fire it back up in time to bank."
There were even more scoffs and snorts than before.
"That's not... you can't..." the soft-spoken pilot's face was screwed up in deep thought, trying to make sense of your outlandish idea. "I mean, the physics of it alone... How could you even calculate the timing of it?"
"A situation like that, there's no calculating," you agreed. "There's no recalling a classroom lesson or reciting a manual. There's only feeling."
You hadn't exactly held their respect before, but now you'd really lost them. You were preaching about feelings, to a crowd who didn't think they needed to be taught anything in the first place. The looks on their faces, the not-so-polite words they were sputtering at a not-so-subtle volume, were proof they found you ridiculous.
You risked a glance back at Thrawn, whose expression was deadpan and gave away nothing of how he perceived this whole exchange. Not that you needed his approval. But he'd staked a lot in this plan of having a captured Rebel pilot teach an Imperial squadron; you were nervous about the consequences of failing him.
Your gaze shifted from his apathetic eyes to a starship just behind him. A TIE Interceptor by the looks of it. There wasn't much you envied about the Empire, save for this one vessel. The itching intensified; you were practically chomping at the bit now that the idea popped into your mind. A way to kill two birds with one stone.
You steeled yourself with another breath and turned back to face your disgruntled audience.
"...it's just not possible," someone was saying.
"It is possible." You raised your voice to be heard over their ruckus. Whatever fatigue your body had been suffering was now muted as adrenaline began to ramp up inside you. "I've done it before."
This hushed them up a bit, though skepticism was still written across their features. You couldn't help but grin in response.
"Would you like me to do it again?"

Things I LOVED in NATLA Episode 6 - Masks
Opening with Zuko pre-scar getting ready for the war council - you really didn't have to gut-punch me like that, show
Starting the camera from behind his head so we don't know yet and having Iroh's monologue starting up - really really great stuff
Dallas Liu did such a great job acting as a 3-years younger Zuko here! The way he holds himself, the tone of his voice THE WAY HE FREELY SMILES!!!!! Immediately lets you know this is younger Zuko before the most traumatic shit of his life
Damn that transition from young Zuko to him on the shiiipp!!
Zhao is so slimy and is so good at making you hate him
Love Zuko's desperate plea to his crew that they stand by him and then Jee's outburst at the way Zuko treats them
We see both sides (and even more by the end of the episode)
Love the added layers to the 'villains' of the story
"We can solve the world's problems without hurting anyone!?" "We can try"
Such a great back and forth there - already showing where Aang's ideas are at and how he's a pacifist at heart
But he still mentions painful consequences if they fail - consequences those of us who know the animated version know all too well how close that is to Roku
The Mother of Faces! Great deepening of lore and reinforcing the themes of identity and masks for the episode
Though I miss Roku wrecking shop at the temple, seeing the fire sages all taken out by Nyla's paralysis was dooooopppee!!!
June is so cool and so very, very competent. Love her to death
Zuko's resigned 'no' as Aang begs him to let him go save his friends :(
Yet another instance showing that although Zuko's put a mask on to show the world since his banishment, Aang is the one who can see through it because he truly believes the best in people - even enemies
Baby Zuko in the war council not paying attention
Just trying his best but clearly not taking it as seriously as he should - giving plans of attack they'd already discarded
He just wants the approval of his father
Love the added depth from Ozai here
He WANTED Zuko to come up with a good plan, he's DISAPPOINTED he didn't.
This Ozai hasn't written Zuko off from the start, he's 'giving him chances' to be the son Ozai wants him to be - and is failing
Let's be clear here, it's not ok that Ozai is doing this and this doesn't mean Zuko brought his abuse on himself, it means that in Ozai's mind, he can justify it and 'gave chances' - see the cycle of abuse
Zuko's core shining through as, even though he doesn't have a good plan himself, he KNOWS what the other general suggested is wrong
You don't have to be an expert on world affairs or battle plans to know WRONG when you see it - it's basic humanity and anyone who tries to tell you you shouldn't have a say because you're not an expert can eat shit
AAAHHHHH Zhao throwing it back in Zuko's face that defying one of Ozai's generals (admirals), Zuko is defying his own father
AARRRUUGGGHHHHHHHAHAAAAAHHHHAAAA
Zuko strategizing immediately!!
Iroh trying to talk sense into him!!
Everything from this point on is almost directly pulled from the animated series and I think the show knew EXACTLY when to do a 1-1 translation to live-action
Zhao's little smarmy speech to Aang, Aang then blowing him into the door XD
Zhao's absolutely pitch-perfect middle manager 'Our numbers have been great this quarter, here's your pizza party!' energy that's waaayyyy too into this
He's so obsessed with the appearance of power and the rush of shouting accomplishments to uproarious applause, he doesn't care about anything else
Spit in my mouth, that pan over to The Blue Spirit hanging out in the tree and the little head tilt as he hears the wagon rolling underneath - uuuuuuhhhhh that was…good. Yeah, that was good. Ahem, I'm fine, totally normal over here, carry on.
NiNjA sTuFf!!
The whole unseen hallway fight *chefs kiss*
"Who are you?" Head tilt "Right, talk later, run now" while the Blue Spirit is already all the way down the hallway XD
Their heads popping up above the crates to scope out the courtyard XD too cute
"Now is that 'loyal' or 'faithful', sir?" 😭
Zhao's panicked scream after just having been so confident 🙃
SIIIICCKKK sword flourish!
ALL the choreography at the top of the battlement was fantastic - I could see the CGI doubles in a few places, but really, it was so good I didn’t care
Just two cuties stilt-walking across a courtyard full of enemies, nothing to see here
I LOVE how The Blue Spirit holds himself so differently than Zuko does. The mask hiding his features really does let him take on a persona that he can really settle into
The way he holds a stance ready to fight is completely different than Zuko does when he's firebending and I think it was such a good touch to make sure their fighting styles were nothing alike (even barring the difference in weapon)
It's sooo interesting that in this version, you can see through the eye-holes of the mask - looking closely, you can see Zuko's fear and insecurity, even his shallow breaths as he's terrified his plan won't work. It's something you have to look closely for, but it's very very good.
And that little nick on Aang's neck from the swords! Zuko really was holding them tight to him
Zuko slapping Aang's hand away XD it's hilarious in how honest of a teenage reaction that is
So much of what Zuko does is exactly what teens do when they're trying to be badass and edgy, but to us olds, it comes off so try-hard and petulant - it's a mask of confidence and badassery that's so easy to see through
"Can I ask you a question? It might be a little personal - goat hair or rabbit?"
I legit almost cried at that - it's just SO AANG to talk about mundane things with the 'enemy' to try to find common ground. Humanize each other so they can find a way to resolve the issue without threats or violence.
Ugh just, ugh - Aang telling Zuko that the work he did in the notebook was really good and helped him a lot
Zuko has finally heard he did a good job - something he did was worthy of praise. It was unique and impactful and Zuko should be proud of it. And it's his enemy telling him that - a genuine complement, not gloating or digging at him, but genuinely telling him that he did a good job
Zuko breaking and opening up to Aang!!!! Them bonding!!!!
Zuko's little smile at Aang's joke about snoring while meditating!!!
Love this expanded conversation between them - really humanizing each other and seeing the cracks in Zuko's façade, his mask that he thinks he needs to strengthen to be what he's "expected" to be - and how he reacts with anger when people try to lift that mask.
The Agni Kai - just….wow, yeah, it was a lot
Again, I love how they expand these scenes to really delve into character more rather than a quick, frankly a bit surface level, bullet point of character these scenes in the animated show had.
I have a whole essay about the Agni Kai in my analysis of the episode, but cliff notes:
All of Ozai's lines are dripping with depth and nuance to why he's doing this and a deeper meaning to this lesson than just throwing Zuko away as a nuisance
Ozai really wants Zuko to do well, to prove himself
And Zuko tries - he tries insisting that they don’t need to fight, that he does respect Ozai and the military, then he tries to please his father by fighting
The choreography is brutal and stunning
The fight builds, flows, and ends with Zuko showing compassion, unwilling to really strike his own father
And I've again, written an essay on it, but I do like seeing the conflict on Ozai's face as he brands Zuko
He's not any less horrific of a father, but he is more REAL - which makes it all the more terrifying and heartbreaking that we can see people like that in the world, he's not just a character relegated to a cartoon - his type of abuse is very real and present in our everyday lives
Aang talking about Kuzon :'(
"He's hurt" "He'll recover" "But he'll never heal"
WHAT and exchange.
"Sometimes the weak can become stronger. Sometimes, you just have to give them the chance"
Aaahhhhh!! There's Zuko's character thesis right there: he's always had to fight for his abilities, it's never come easy for him - but what 'strength' is will change and grow with Zuko through the story!
Jesus, Daniel Dae Kim's voice is just sooooo goood as the fire lord. It's not fair. Seriously.
Mark Hamill is legendary - there's no doubt about that, but damn if Daniel Dae Kim doesn't do just as good of a job, putting his own, very resonantly deep take on it.
And the 41st reveal!!!!!
I think this was a genius addition by the live-action team
Bringing it all around full circle where everything is connected.
Iroh cupping Zuko's face and him pushing him away, back to the 'petulant' (what he thinks is strong) mask D':
"There actually are a few of us who care about…about such things"
Cue the waterworks
"Our prince has returned"
Again, waterworks
No, it's not 'home' in the Fire Nation, but it IS the home that Zuko and the crew have made over the past 3 years
Enter the trope of home being where you least expect it and all that
"They must have missed you at music night" DX
Coming in again with the fire ending monologue )':
No Gyatzo waiting for Aang DX
Zuko seeing his unscarred, happy face in the mirror DX
"What's hard is knowing that sometimes, the mask is who we really are"
There were a lot of big emotions in this episode - I needed some time to recover

ore-sama-chan
Koga drops the -sama from his personal pronoun as well as the delinquent speech in this line. The kid is embarrassed beyond belief.
The word used here is 役不足. This word tends to be enormously misused by the general public. Much like the English phrase "could care less" is often used to mean the opposite of what the phrase implies, 役不足 means to be massively overqualified for your job, but is colloquially used to mean you're not up to the task. There really wasn't a clean way to translate this, as Koga uses it to mean the latter, while Rei means the former.

Ya know, Nabooru was one of the sages that threw Ganondorf into the Evil Realm. I wonder how she felt during all that shit?
Tumblr media
[OH ANON. YOU LIKE CANS OF WORMS, DON'T YOU?
As I'm sure everyone has figured out, I play Nabooru with a lot more complexity than canon gives her. In other words, her position on standing against Ganondorf at all was a lot more complicated than "He's a bad guy and I want treasure!" (that last part is def not part of her ACTUAL motivation for my Nabooru). It wasn't something she always felt she might do. In fact, up until basically that point, she WAS loyal to Ganondorf. Outside of his mission for the Triforce, she BELIEVED in him and was fully on board with his mission to improve the lives of their people. She believed in his passion and ambition for their people, and wanted to help him wherever she could. Or, where he would ALLOW when his mission became more geared toward the Triforce and he began shutting himself off from her and the Gerudo more. For their protection back then(so he claimed), but then...he sort of forgot about them because absolute power blah blah gotta find that damn princess blah but that's a little further down the line.
Romantic relationship they totally had aside, it was probably months if not YEARS of her fighting with him and herself before she finally gave him an ultimatum (likely when she found out the REAL extent he was going to the get what he wanted) out of fear of his actions FURTHER endangering the Gerudo: she basically said if you keep this up, I'm going to have to stop you because she considered his mission dangerous to him and ther Gerudo as a whole. And well we can all see how well that went.
Thus, her "plan" was just that: defy his orders to stay away from the Spirit Temple and her own self exile to stop him...somehow (she didn't really have a solid plan; words? fight him? shake him until he saw reason? she didn't really know!). She didn't WANT to, but she felt her hand had been forced. So, being brainwashed, losing seven years of her life, and the coming out of that stupor and being awakened as a sage meant to help Hyrule? It's...not a role she wanted.
But she barely had time to consider her role because next thing she knew, Link was fighting Ganondorf and it became REAL. However this ended up, she was going to have to be part of it. And probably during that first fight? She probably wasn't sure she would be able to do it. Whatever IT was. But...she could also see how he changed. She knew all the things he had done to others, to HER, and she understood his motives had shifted to ones that no longer aligned with what was best for the Gerudo. They were selfish and all for the sake of power. And then when she saw him transform into a beast...she knew, or maybe hoped, that the Ganondorf she knew, that she loved and ADMIRED, was gone. That understanding overall hurt worse than anything, but it didn't make it easier for her to lend her power to seal Ganondorf away.
Still...she hesitated. And I HC that her hesitation and uncertainty was why he broke out later ehehehehe.
So tl;dr: she wasn't really happy with her role in sealing Ganondorf away. She wasn't happy that one decision to try and save her people--not necessarily Hyrule--got her put in the position of a sage expected to help protect a country that, to that point, had no interest in helping her people. She didn't want to basically kill Ganondorf at all. She just wanted to protect her people and keep Ganondorf from getting himself and the Gerudo into more trouble than they could handle.]

i did it! 😍 I finished the game before New Years! I rushed the final part of the game and skipped the sub events that you can apparently do before the final fight, but since I eventually plan to replay this as Milla, I’ll just do them there. definitely enjoyed this game and I’m glad I finally got a chance to complete it. I felt like right after the big plot twist with Maxwell and Milla, the game kind of…hmmm dipped a bit in terms of the story pacing for me. but that ending?? fuck yes!!!!! <3 thank you namco for not going down the usual path of male protag + female protag = lovers. anyway, more long ramblings about this beautiful game below because i need to (as usual) dump out my feelings about it!
so first for the things i liked.
milla!! holy crap, she's definitely become one of my all-time favorite characters in the tales series and i'm aching to start a drawing of her. what an amazing character. she's such a determined, courageous, strong-willed, bad-ass woman, and OF COURSE i'm a huge sucker for female characters who just know what they're about and don't let anything or anyone stand in their way! yeah her anatomy is outrageous (she looks like she could snap in half at any moment) but just like velvet i'm letting it slide because her characterization is just wonderful. she starts out not really caring for anyone or anything but her "mission" and protecting humans and spirits alike, but then elize happens!! leia happens!! and of course jade happens as well but like!! elize and leia never hesitate to show their care, love, and admiration for milla and just ahhhhh their relationship in the game is everything to me. that post-battle scene of milla patting elize and thanking her for her help would always make my heart want to explode of joy. 🤧 thank you namco for feeding me with such an admirable protagonist who clicked so well with the rest of the female characters. can't wait to play her side of the story!
i've already mentioned in another post how much i love teepo (hands down best tales mascot yet), but i also loved elize and leia as well. i know it's implied that jiao had something to do with elize's parents but next time i'll try to do more sub-events about her to learn more about her past and well, just learn more about her overall. leia snuck her way into joining the party and although at first i didn't really care for her, she is also super helpful in battle and her bubbly personality is what was missing from the party before she joins. i just didn't like (and understand?) why she kept saying/thinking that she was getting in the way or holding the party back because...excuse me queen when does that ever happen lol you are nothing but helpful. she right away agrees to help jude and milla look for what they need to get milla to walk again and puts her life at risk for it, how is that holding them back? maybe there's something i missed but yeah, pure love for elize and leia.
the fighting system in this game is so damn good and fun omg, probably my favorite after berseria. linking arts is so satisfying and reminded me of those final attacks you could pull off in arise, except with like...you could execute them any time you filled up the linking bar and not just waiting for an enemy to almost die. i played as jude most of the time but in my next playthrough i will definitely play as milla since her attacks looked so fun as well.
that plot twist about milla having been built by maxwell to bait out exodus was totally unexpected for me and i was just in shock watching all those cutscenes play out. from clapping of joy that milla finally gets The Four back to having my mouth agape at leia and alvin fighting. like...damn, the storytelling and pacing of this story might not be the best but that portion of the game was really good. again, can't wait to see what the hell is going on with milla in that time that jude is all down and depressed!
so many animated cutscenes, and of course all of them are a joy to watch! i'm not entirely sure but i think out of all the tales games i've played, i felt like this one really had the most? either way, would always love whenever we'd get one since i love how they animate milla!
the ending. wow. i really thought they were going to go down the usual route of "male protag and female protag fall in love and stay together" because well, jude fell head over heels for milla but i never really got the impression that milla felt the same way for jude (again, need to play milla's side). i thought for sure that milla was going to find a way to live as a human, kind of what happens with ratatosk and emil in symphonia 2, but to my pleasant surprise, that doesn't happen! milla doesn't even HESITATE to say no to maxwell to his idea of her living as a human using the schism's mana--she right away knows that she will live on as maxwell and continue her duty to protect spirits and humans alike. GOD that just made me adore her character even more! i mean SURE it sucks for her because she herself says something along the lines of being sad that she will have to leave her found family behind, but (after looking it up in the youtubes cus i just couldn't wait) she says in the post-credit scene that she is proud of the path she has chosen! she has no regrets!! what a fucking queen!!!!!!!!!!
and honestly i much prefer this ending in regards to jude and milla's relationship: a relationship based on admiration and respect for each other because SHEESH it's such a breath of fresh air and i'm so so so glad that namco went this route for them because i was seriously dreading the cliched ending lol. not that i'm against the usual female protag + male protag ending up together--as long as the proper development is there (see marta and emil, luke and tear etc), but again i just felt like the feelings were very one-sided from jude so hurray for this ending!
ok and the part where elize puts teepo away? i literally screamed "NOOOOO" and was so sad but at the same time proud of elize because she no longer has to depend on teepo to express herself! and she has friends now! but still it was a depressing scene to see just because of how much i loved teepo :(
alright, now for the dislikes:
the music. this one is no surprise because honestly, ever since symphonia 2, i feel like tales games just have not done well in the music department. i think there's like one or two songs that i might have to download for my collection, but other than that, yet another disappointment in the series.
the overworlds. sorry but they were so boring and predictable to explore after like...the third or so area! they all pretty much have the same layout except with different colors. just really nothing interesting about them and the same music for almost all of the areas wasn't helpful either. if xillia 2 has the same layouts to its overworld i will seriously scream lol.
the voice acting. i think this game has the worst (english) voice acting in all of the tales games i've played, and it was especially jarring after coming from symphonia 2, which i thought did such an excellent job with its voice acting. it didn't have a japanese option otherwise i would have chosen it. those character pop-in voices that would occur during battles where your characters would say something just wouldn't match with the intensity of the character portraits, plus half the time i wouldn't even be able to hear what the hell they were saying. also, as much as i love elize, her voice just didn't sound like a 12 or 13 year old (or however old she's supposed to be). i felt like jude's and leia's voice acting was also pretty meh, like the skits would sometimes really have no oomph to them or were pretty monotone. milla's had the same issue to her but with her you can kinda brush it off due to her personality. i initially didn't really like milla's voice acting at all but overtime it ended up becoming my favorite out of the main gang lol.
alvin... oh boy. i'm sorry to alvin fans, i know he's supposed to be like the complex character of the gang, kind of like how zelos was, but unlike zelos whom i eventually learned to SOMEWHAT like despite his many flaws, alvin never really grew on me and i had no interest in learning more about his character. maybe my mind will change once i get another playthrough of the game, but his constant betrayals and running away just got old after the second time and honestly it was annoying. yeah he was part of exodus since he was a kid and did what he needed to survive, but eugh i never really felt he clicked well with the rest of the party, even when he was moping around before the final battle and elize went and cheered him up. good thing that milla and jude never gave up on him since it's thanks to his cousin that we learned about how spyrites worked, but other than that........next!!!
the antagonists. so weak. i already talked a bit about this, but nachtigal? lame af. also he was alvin's uncle? whatever, the game never really gave me a reason to want to feel sympathy for him, so i brushed over this "revelation" as fast as the game did. plus his presence throughout the game was barely felt? presa, agria, and wingul, eh, also whatever. i thought it was cool how you got to work "with them" for a bit, which was a nice surprise, but other than that, just like alvin, don't really care for them. not sure if there are sub-events where you can learn more about their past (like presa's parents abandoning her or whatever), so i'll try to be more on the lookout for them in my next playthrough, but honestly...not really impressed. i would say that this is probably the weakest thing about the game, i didn't really ever felt threatened by any of the antagonists throughout it.
the pacing after the maxwell twist. ok, one thing that really bothered me was that...jude decides that he wants to save elympios and reiza maxia, because obviously that's what a protagonist does: they want to sacrifice no one and save everyone. but my problem with this was that, before this, the game never really gives you, the player, a reason to care for elympios? at this point you know two people that are from there: nachtigal, who we barely know anything about and is just plain evil, and alvin, who...has betrayed the party countless of times and is heavily disliked by the most innocent person in the party (i forget if leia also actively hates him like elize?). he isn't exactly someone that the game managed to get me to have sympathy for, unlike sheena from symphonia or shionne from arise, both who are from a different world which you are also trying to save. so like, why should i also share the same mission as jude? but ok, whatever, it's the obvious noble thing to do even though i don't understand it, fine. but even THEN! the whole elympios bit felt severely rushed. tethe'alla is laughing. like i think only 8 hours pass from when jude says he wants to save elympios to the end of the game. so in this time you go to elympios, learn how spyrites can help its people (and somehow this is credited to jude because...why again? lol), explore two small areas of this brand new alien planet, volt makes an appearance, gaius and muzet are out trying to destroy spyrixes everywhere (although this was more of a tell rather than show bit cus i never got this impression from the game), the gang has a crisis of whether to stick with milla and jude or...go back to reize maxia (why was this an issue in the first place? why would they back down now? they tried to make it seem like it was this big crisis that they would have to fight gaius, but why would they feel conflicted with this??), and just...what? right after the plot twist i said this was contending to be in my top three favorite tales games, but this last portion of the game was just...not it, lol. i loved gaius and how much he loves his people and how far he is willing to protect them (similar to milla...), but at the end it seriously felt like "how many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?" with how many times you fight him. the "final" level was also rather lame but i'd take that over arise's dreadful last level design.
so don't get me wrong, despite the rather weak antagonists (minus gaius and muzet, especially the latter lol her going insane was awesome) and that last portion of the game being...rather strange and honestly feeling kind of rushed, this tales game is such a pleasure and milla is one of the best tales protagonists. jude growing from being super dependent on milla and just following her around like a lost puppy to making his own decisions and saying he will be alright without milla (and changing the world helping with the spyrites research!) was also really great to watch unfold. great characters, great protagonists, great relationships within the cast, amazing gameplay, a refreshing ending...will definitely play this again!
with that i think i can confidently say that my ranking for the tales games is now as follows: symphonia, berseria, abyss, xillia, symphonia 2, zestiria, arise, vesperia.
alright, enough rambling. time to browse the xillia tag and reblog all that sweet content i've missed out on all these years!!

I'm sorry about your friend. It's clear you loved her lots.
Thank you so much. I really did. For those who didn’t see, one of my friends recently passed.
We fell out of touch the last few years when she moved, but that distance did not make me care about, love, or admire her any less.
Mari was a hero for me, and I feel like a lot of you on here would get that. So I'm gonna share a bit about who she was and what she meant to me.
TW: suicide, homophobia
Mari was lesbian, born into a deeply conservative Mormon family and community. She did an interview with Out Sports when she had finally broken free of her church and her marriage. In that interview, you can feel how deeply she loved her family and wanted to be loved in return. How badly she wanted to be 'good' and 'acceptable' and how traumatic it was for her to loathe herself and even others like her at times. She forced herself to marry a man and she tried her damndest to fit it and be accepted.
But that shit is poison to your soul and she got away, but there was a cost. In that interview, you can also feel how excruciating it was to let go of that. But she did. You can feel in her words, the irrepressible nature of her spirit. She was ultimately able to struggle free and become who she was meant to be.
She was an accomplished athlete, and a gifted coach. Here is her last school's post about her passing. I met her when that career was over, ended by a bone disease and excruciating chronic pain. But I could see why she was so fucking good at it.
She was a born coach. She ALWAYS noticed people. She listened to them. She made all of us in her orbit feel like we mattered and like what we were doing was important. She was large and unmissable and had a huge smile and a joy for life and optimism that was contagious. She was always cracking jokes. Always getting people together. Always trying to help and inspire. Once she was ‘out’ she did an "It Gets Better" video.
In particular she was so uplifting of other women. She had parties in her back yard around a fire she called 'yaya sisterhood' parties and she'd call you a warrior woman for doing things you didn't think were that impressive. But then suddenly they felt pretty damn impressive. We'd drink and dance like dorks and it was the best.
But of course there was darkness. Difficulty. Major traumas. Abuses. Things I wouldn't share because she didn't do so publicly.
And when the bone disease ended her career she struggled with feeling useless and like a burden.
But the thing is, she FUCKING WASN'T! Because everyone she met can tell you of some way she changed them. She convinced them they could do something they thought they couldn't do. She convinced them that what they were doing mattered. And if you needed help, even if SHE couldn’t do it, she’d find someone who could. She would put a call out and find someone to help.
And on her easier pain days when she could get out of bed, she would organize us in the community, she partnered with other people, retirees. They would make sandwiches and drive them around to feed people. They would have special events on every holiday to feed people. (my son is on the far left) She made friends with unhoused folks and helped over 150 people get off the street.
But she didn't just do that.
We all know the reason people are unhoused in this country is because poverty is criminalized. Mental illness is criminalized. The bootstraps myth and 'if you're poor you deserve it' is in American culture far deeper than anything else.
So she would fight with city hall, she would fight with other residents, all the people who hassle them. She'd argue with the cops about how they threw out their belongings and arrested them for existing. She'd go to meetings and argue with people who opposed shelters and housing. She made a lot of enemies.
We live in a small right wing town and I do not tussle with these people unless I absolutely have to. They see themselves as the most respectable, best people on earth. Meanwhile they tote around guns and hang bible signs that tell you you're going to hell. They're scary people.
Sometimes I have to fight with them but only when I literally cannot avoid it.
But Mari would go out there every day and draw their wrath just by helping someone and not apologizing for it. They would tell her that her work would attract more homeless people to our town and she was ruining their neighborhoods etc.
But that was who she was.
She finally did leave this town. She moved to Hawaii. That was her dream. That was when we lost touch, except for occasional facebook posts. I knew the surgeries she had didn't help her back pain. I knew that she had personal issues. But of course I did not know to what extent.
Now, in retrospect, it seems obvious. A friend of mine reached out to her and said that Mari told her that she didn't know how much pain a person could be expected to endure. Another friend heard that she died, and she said...suicide? Apparently they'd had a conversation about severe chronic pain where Mari had said that she thought one day she'd be unable to go on.
I've lost a sibling to suicide. I’ve been suicidal. I’ve served on the board of anti suicide organizations. I’ve studied mental health. But even with all of that I know that in retrospect you can explain it away all you want, but no one can know but the person, what was in their mind the last moments.
Mari made a goodbye video but all she said was that she was 'out' and she blew a kiss. She didn't say anything else. We didn't even know what it meant until her family started posting the next day.
The frustrating things is that no one can know. There was so much trauma. So much pain. And I’m angry. I’m angry at anyone and everyone who caused her the preventable trauma and outright abuse.
But at this point, I'm determined to focus on the stuff that Mari CHOSE to put into the world. She didn't ask for a traumatic childhood or chronic pain. She didn't ask to be subject to abuse or homophobia. None of that was WHO SHE WAS.
WHO SHE WAS was a kind, empathetic, loving person with a big laugh and a silly irreverent sense of humor who wanted to be accepted and appreciated for who she was. And now that she is gone, she would absolutely want to be remembered for the good she put into the world. She would want the people she cared about to live life and think fondly of the good things she did.
So, to honor her, I want to do what she did. I want to remember to be kind to people. I want to honor people who society discards. I want to always remember that we are all the same.
I want to live by: We can all be great, because we can all be kind.
The impact of her kindness will be felt forever. Because we pass it along. One of the men she helped on the street came to the memorial I had for her in my backyard. He played his guitar for her and he cried and we cried and told our stories and honestly that is all I can hope for.
I can only hope that when I am gone (and we will all inevitably will be gone someday) that people can say that I made my little corner of the world a better place and that it radiated out and made everything better. Because that is the only true lasting thing we can do.
And that is what Mari did. My buddy. My hero. ♥️♥️ Rest In Peace warrior woman.

How about Fire Emblem Awakening for the fandom ask game? 👀
Favorite Male Character
Easy! That's Henry, my most beloved favorite guy, my first video game wife, my silly rabbit, etc. I love that little dude! Obviously he has an absolutely S tier character design, which I shall include for the convenience of everyone who hasn't seen him before and so everyone can have a good chuckle at how absolutely predictable I am. I don't even have coherent Henry thoughts it's just like. Turning that guy around in my head like a doner kebab, y'know? But also I love that he's so cheerful, I love that he smiles even when it isn't genuine at all, I love his absolute detachment from social norms (and morality), I think it rules that he's always drenched in blood and hanging out with the dead... I just think he has a wonderful innocence that's greatly enhanced by that dash of darkness. The crow puns are also 11/10!!! And of course. A man wearing a skirt with a cape covered in eyes. AND it's all purple and gold. And also has those big loose sleeves- look, it's like he was made specifically for me!! And then the little hand thing at the end of the sleeves... Godddd he's perfect. I'm sorry Ash like I said this is INCOHERENT
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A white haired young man in a grey shirt and dark leggings. He wears a short purple wrap skirt around the leggings. A wide purple lined black cloak billows behind him, six golden eyes adorning the collar. He smiles cheerfully and extends a hand above his head to a crow.]
Honorable mentions are Owain (I love chuuni characters...), Ricken (who has the cutest little wizard outfit), and Libra (no one say anything. I already know.)
Favorite Female Character
I made the mistake of cracking open the artbook to help me choose when writing this up and immediately had a list of like a dozen ladies who I think are all the best. This game is hell for that. Henry is so easy but the female characters... jeez. I think I'm going to commit to Maribelle! For one thing Maribelle canon sapphic IntSys can fight me. I know the truth. But also, I like that Maribelle is very assertive despite being a person who isn't a fighter, and her commitment to justice is admirable. She's got a strong spirit and always stands up for what she believes in. I'm very fond of her! She and Lissa should have been able to marry. Why can't they get married, IntSys? Why is that, why are you keeping her down
Honorable mentions: Cynthia (chuuni!!!), Tiki (ancient dragon lady who has outlived all her friends gives me many thoughts. also hot), Say'ri (another great story character), Cherche (pretty lady with big axe and dragon makes brain go brrr), Flavia (another cool fighter lady. wow), Anna (the goddess of random numbers), and of course Lissa (Lissa)
Least Favorite Character
Tharja. It's Tharja. This is easy. My least favorite is Tharja. She does have some funny supports, but I just thinks she's overall uncomfortable to be around and I dislike her overtly sexual design, which kind of presaged a lot of things in Fates I dislike. I find her a very uncompelling yandere and everything with Noire is also uncomfortable. I think it's a damn shame that she was one of the most popular female characters in the game and thus she got carried through so much other stuff.
Honorable mention: Cordelia. I don't find her pining for Chrom forever thing or her being literally perfect thing interesting. Also a vaguely uncomfortable character in some ways, but not at all as bad and Severa rules so hey. Makes up for it.
Favorite Ship
Well, when I was in high school I was a serious Henricken guy! I don't really know why, honestly. I think it was just a "these are my two favorite characters, I want to see them together." As a mature adult, allow me to say: Libra and Lon'qu is the pinnacle. I mean. All Libra ships are 11/10, that's Libra's nature, but I feel like that's something that I've seen so much compelling stuff about for years.
On the sapphic side of things, Say'ri and Tiki are obviously just married and I love that for them. The devoted warrior and the immortal dragon she protects... it's amazing. I also really love Severa and Lucina! Severa is just a fantastic character in general, and I love the initial tension between Lucina as the principled warrior and Severa, who's committed to spurning her duties (but is devoted deep down). I feel like these are like, two of the most typical possible picks. But like. They're amazing, you know?
And if you asked me to pick an m/f, since I am seeing that I've not done that, Cynthia and Morgan. It's cute :)
There are so many characters with good chemistry, I know that I cheated badly here ^^;; But like. It's all so good!!!
Favorite Friendship
The Justice Cabal!!! Which is to say, everything between Owain, Morgan, and Cynthia. I love that they're all just little weirdos and I love the idea of them hanging out being little weirdos together. Morgan isn't a chuuni but they're chuuni adjacent... the weirdgirl energy in a room containing all three of them must be off the charts. I love it.
I'm also a huge fan of platonic Chrom and female Robin. QPR Chrobin is the way... And I think there's also something really beautiful about Chrom doing so much for a woman he loved and valued as a friend, and that being as powerful as if she was a romantic paramour.
Favorite Quote
Uh besides everything that comes out of Owain's mouth? Or Henry's... Well, I'd say that because I'm incredibly cheesy, it's that "Welcome back." at the very end.
Worst Character Death (if any)
It's been a looooong time since I last played Awakening so obviously I'm going to give you the most absolutely basic answer ever: Emmeryn's death. I just think it's a really good dramatic moment, and it's a place where that false choice works. It's good characterization for Robin and it's also so fitting that it doesn't do anything at all. Emmeryn's sacrifice is only in her own hands. It's painful to watch. I like the way it echoes through the rest of the pre-time skip stuff, and it's such a heart breaking touch to see sage Lissa's clothing.
Of course, it's also the worst death because the paralogue that brings her back cheapens the hell out of it for no real narrative reason and there really isn't anything the story has to do with her, unlike the enemies that can be rescued or Robin. If any one character should have stayed dead, it should have been Emmeryn.
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment
Okay time to come out and say I'm one of the five people who actually loves the end of Awakening. I KNOW people say it makes the sacrifice feel cheap. And it does, objectively. But ALSO. Do you know how happy it made me at fifteen?! You have no idea. I actually cried seeing that mirrored scene at the ending. I'm a sucker for when it all comes around. And like... the hope of that ending is also really great. It may have been a graver and more real game if those consequences really had been what they seemed, but I do love the miracle of breaking the cycle.
Saddest Moment
I've already touched on Emmeryn's sacrifice and Robin's sacrifice... hmm. I'd say that it's learning about the choice between sealing Grima temporarily and destroying him forever. When the hero learns they need to die for the greater good, that's something that always sends a pang through my heart. And the buildup to either saving themself (what Chrom wants and is so willing to support!) or becoming a martyr is, well, really good. I'm remembering it through the eyes of someone who found it very fresh, I suppose. Along with that is Lucina's assassination attempt. I mean, that's just tragic. She's right to want to kill you, but she'll never be able to do it.
Favorite Location
Either the Mila Tree or Mount Prism- I love verdant places filled with light and water. Both maps feel so soothing. They also feel so far apart from the ordinary world... it's humbling, in a way. Wonderful.
(buuuuut also Grima's back. I love that dragon man)

What traits of Paris are admirable for you? Like, what would you say to someone who doesn’t like the character? 😱 I’m very interested in your opinion.
Like, an encomium for Paris? ;) I can do that.
(Undoubtedly a lot, if not all, I'm going to say here I've said elsewhere because I love blabbing about Paris, but 1. I am lazy so I'm not going to go looking and 2. I love blabbing about Paris. Also 3. in the spirit of an encomium I'm going to (try to, since I do know he has faults and those can be interesting to engage in) defer discussing his faults, as well as the consequences even his positive qualities has in the canon situation for the moment.)
With the understanding that some of the things below requires accepting that Paris is effeminate and I'll be interpreting this positively contrary to Ancient Greek opinions about effeminacy;
One of the first things is way he stubbornly and determinedly is honest to his own preferences and presentation in the face of insults and ridicule of the same. Like, yes, dancing and music are good peace time pursuits and bad war time pursuits, but "all things in [manly] moderation/restraint" is an important "qualification" when it comes to men enjoying or being good at these pursuits. Paris doesn't care. Music and dancing etc isn't something he's going to stop enjoying or pursuing just because there's a war on. More than that, he's not going to stop dressing nicely, or focusing on his hair just because he's being insulted left, right, and center about it. Being able and willing to keep to your preferences in the face of social censure (your enemies are one thing, but it comes from close family as well) is really admirable to me.
Being able to take a moment to laugh about how great and fine you're feeling, how sweet life is, if just in that moment, while knowingly walking straight into danger is a pretty nice quality, too.
In conjunction with the above, and going with Hecuba's dream omen having happened, and thus that the exposure did, and the fact that Paris would have learned about this sooner or later... Look. Regular human people with normal human interiority would have to think about and confront this, however lightly. How do you come to peace with that your life, even when you were completely innocent of any wrongdoing, was considered undeserving to be alive? Your own parents, however roundabout, however unwillingly, attempts to kill you. Your parents are also later happy to ignore the reason/hope they were wrong about it when you come back alive, but at least by the point that the Achaeans make a final landing Paris would have to face, if just for himself, that it really was (not is, any longer, too late for that) his life's or Troy's.
That's a terrible thing for anyone to have to face, so, uh, being able to compartmentalize enough to still be cheerful and lighthearted is pretty damn impressive. (I suppose one could go with "he's selfish and literally doesn't care about anyone else" and like. Sure. I guess. But 1. we have no proof of that, and 2. the only other possibility aside from compartmentalizing to have some mental equilibrium is Paris getting straight up suicidal, when it's already too late to matter.)
He's agreeable and doesn't actually pretend he has no faults (as society sees them), and yes, again I suppose one could say it's cowardly or conflict-avoidant of Paris to agree to Hektor that he's correct and then not change at all. But some of those changes he shouldn't have to make, and I don't think he's conflict avoidant. His aside about Hektor being as "relentless as an axe" comes right after he's said Hektor is correct in rebuking him, which, while I don't think it neither negates that, does qualify it. Paris is lodging a roundabout complaint that Hektor is, if not wrong, then going a bit too far. Without actually starting a fight in a situation where they can't have one! His response to Hektor in the later scene isn't just flat agreement and this time even less a qualification. Rather it comes with a correction of Hektor's assumption of why he's still in his bedroom - again, that's not really conflict avoidant, in my opinion, just not making a fight there's no time and place for, and he doesn't fully have a right to have, anyway? And I'd say Paris knows he doesn't (or at least know this is no place/time, again, to have a fight), so that's why you get this.
(And he does protest Hektor's rebukes/insults the one time we see in the Iliad where Hektor is entirely in the wrong!)
I don't know if it's petty or not to add this, but I'd like to juxtapose the particular part of Hektor and Andromache's scene where she attempts to give him (perfectly sound but against the personal heroic masculine code!) military advice with Helen's rebukes/insults to Paris when she finds him in their bedroom. Paris doesn't tell her she doesn't understand military matters [because she's a woman] and neither does he tell her she shouldn't talk about those things [because she's a woman]; all he does is tell her to not insult him so harshly and anyway, he might win some other time. In this instance, he's markedly less sexist than his brother, which, I don't know if it might be another "symptom" of his "softness" and effeminacy, but if it is, it's (to us) a pretty good one. (And like, not that Paris doesn't talk about Helen as "an object" when they were talking about Helen and the wealth in Book 3 - but in this wise he isn't making himself guilty of any crime that any other man isn't, Menelaos included.)
Is being a bomb lover and making sure your partner is satisfied an admirable quality (even as that's part of the initial problem)? Then that, too, since that'd be part of ~the gifts of Aphrodite~. I do think you can interpret those "gifts of Aphrodite" wider than just about sex, so he's charming and good with people, and listening/creating accord (political unity, which was one of Aphrodite's other sides). But I know this is perhaps more extrapolation than otherwise, so take or leave that as you will.
(As an extra thing which has nothing to do with what we see in the Iliad and most probably isn't Epic Cycle material: Regardless of whether one considers Aphrodite the legit objective winner, gift-bribes or no gift-bribes, the situation of the judgement is an impossible one. But in a more "fair" setup, where all you have is the word of a mortal against a god that won, Paris, compared to many others who fail in similar (or even more damning) circumstances, gives what he promised to give, and judges fairly. I'm talking about a situation where, while it only appears in a medieval document but might be a legit survival of something earlier, Paris has a pet prize bull he pits against other herders. He crowns the bull each time it wins and says that anyone who can beat his bull will be given this golden crown. Ares fights the bull in bull form and wins. Revealing himself (or even if he does not), he is awarded the prize as promised.)

ok let's start SNW episode 2

The Human Who Had No Limits
➥ summary: She wanted to be strong like him - her father. He was able to defeat foes with just one punch and kick and having seen him and his disciple Genos in action she concluded she wanted to be just like him if not better; so at the ripe age of six she started training. Even when her body yearned for her to stop she didn’t she he performed 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 100 squats, and ran 10 kilometers each day until it happened. A portal done sucked her up and now she’s in another dimension but don’t think that’s going to stop her from training just as hard as her father. Nothing stops the grind, not even man eating demons that apparently want to eat you and demon slayers that want to kidnap you because some dude they work for tells them too.
➥ chapter 6: An Unexpected Encounter
Tumblr media
As (Y/N) continued her journey, she found herself in the company of fellow warriors, each with their own unique stories and battles. It was during one such encounter that she crossed paths with a young demon slayer named Tanjiro Kamado. Their meeting would prove to be memorable, leaving an indelible mark on both of their lives.
The sun cast a warm glow upon the landscape as (Y/N) and Tanjiro's paths converged. As Tanjiro approached, his eyes widened at the sight of (Y/N)'s impressive physique and captivating beauty. His gaze inadvertently dropped, only to find himself eye level with her chest. Flustered, he quickly averted his eyes, his cheeks turning a shade of red.
Gathering his courage, Tanjiro introduced himself. "Uh, hi there. I'm Tanjiro Kamado. It's nice to meet you."
(Y/N) tilted her head, narrowing her eyes as she examined Tanjiro's face. Her lips curled into a mischievous grin. "Damn, you've got a big forehead, dude."
Taken aback, Tanjiro laughed heartily, his initial embarrassment giving way to amusement. "Haha! Yeah, it's been a running joke among my friends. But hey, at least it's recognizable!"
The lighthearted banter set the tone for their interaction, breaking the ice and establishing a camaraderie between them. (Y/N) admired Tanjiro's ability to laugh at himself, appreciating his humility and easygoing nature.
With a playful glint in her eye, (Y/N) introduced herself. "I'm (Y/N), a hero for fun. Nice to meet you too, Tanjiro. Looks like we're both fighting the good fight."
Tanjiro nodded, a smile playing on his lips. "It's an honor to meet a fellow demon slayer. You certainly have the strength and presence of a hero."
As they conversed, (Y/N) learned about Tanjiro's experiences as a demon slayer, his determination to protect humanity, and his unwavering quest to find a cure for his sister, Nezuko. In turn, she shared tales of her own battles, her unique training regimen, and the relentless pursuit of justice that fueled her.
Throughout their exchange, (Y/N) couldn't help but notice the determination in Tanjiro's eyes and the kindness that radiated from his being. She saw in him a kindred spirit—a fellow warrior who, despite the challenges he faced, remained resolute in his pursuit of a better world.
As the conversation drew to a close, (Y/N) extended her hand in friendship. "Tanjiro, it's been a pleasure talking with you. I hope our paths cross again, and maybe we can join forces in the future."
Tanjiro accepted her hand, a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect flowing between them. "I would be honored, (Y/N). Let's continue to fight for justice and protect those in need, together."
With their connection forged, (Y/N) and Tanjiro went their separate ways, each filled with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. Their encounter had solidified their commitment to their respective battles, fueling their resolve to become stronger and make a lasting impact on the world they fought to protect.
As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow upon the land, (Y/N) carried with her the memory of their meeting—a moment of lightheartedness and connection amidst the chaos of their individual journeys. She knew that her path would intersect with other remarkable individuals, each leaving an indelible mark on her quest to be a hero for fun.
And so, (Y/N) pressed forward, her steps filled with determination and her heart alight with the knowledge that she was not alone. With Tanjiro as a potential ally, their combined strength and resolve would become a force to be reckoned with—a beacon of hope and unwavering determination against the darkness that threatened their world.

Hey 🤗
So happy to hear that you're trying to get back to your writing 😊
So, for the fluff alphabet... Since I'm very indecisive in general... 🤦‍♀️
B, D, F, J, L, M, O, P for Hound, Thorn and Gregor, maybe...🙈🤭
If it's too much (probably is), you pick randomly what you want and feel like writing. I'll be happy and grateful with anything you do 💕💗
Oh gosh, so many letters 😅 haha I'll alternate between the three guys, but so glad you're requesting them because I'm eager to continue exploring their characters! (I still owe you some spicy HCs for them too 😉) Hope you're doing well friend!
B | Beauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?
If Thorn could answer everything without getting an eye roll, he would. He genuinely means it. Their spirit, their wisdom, their appearance, their laughter... There isn't a single flaw or fault he could ever find in his partner, regardless if that's actually a healthy mentality to have or not. Once he's fallen in love, the rose colored lenses come on and he's completely lost in their entire beautiful self.
D | Dreams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?
Gregor definitely wants to settle down. Though he likes staying active and is always down for an adventure, he's also quite tired of the all travel as a soldier. He'll appreciate a more stationary life with his S/O, where he can take on long-term projects and get involved in the community. He also enjoys teaching and would love if his partner did too; they'd mentor kids and adults alike.
F | Fight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?
Hound doesn't get upset on his own, but if his partner's upset then he starts to lose it a little. He's more empathetic than he realizes, and if he can't quickly fix the problem or say the right things to calm them down, he gets frustrated. He'll huff and storm off, taking his mastiffs for a walk to strategize. He never argues and is quick to apologize if he does make a mistake.
J | Jealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?
Thorn gets jealous from time to time. But those times usually don't last long. He's never shy in straight-up asking his S/O what's going on, should he be worried, etc. He knows he can trust his partner and that they deserve to have good attention from others. If they're comfortable, he is, too. Just sometimes he'll feel a little sting of insecurity, like any other guy would with a gorgeous S/O.
L | Love Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?
Gregor wouldn't know what came over him. One minute he was casually hanging out with his best friend, and the next, he's tearfully admitting to every hidden thought and secret emotion he'd ever harbored for them. He's practically on his knees and maybe he should be embarrassed, but damn if he isn't so gosh darn full of yearning that he doesn't care anymore. Now his heart's on the line and there's no going back.
M | Marriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?
Hound would have been hesitant about getting into a relationship, so in his mind, having committed to that means they're set for life, right? His partner will likely need to do the proposing... and the planning, and the paperwork, and tying all the other bows to make things official. He'll say he wants a small, intimate ceremony, but he knows so many people it becomes a whole big thing.
O | On Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?
When Thorn is around his S/O, it is very obvious, despite all his best efforts to pretend otherwise. He can't help but be enamored by them, engaged in everything they say, somehow always close by no matter what's going on. When they're apart, then it's a lot easier for him to play it cool and act like a good solider who is definitely not breaking any rules, no sir.
P | PDA - Ae they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?
Gregor isn't shy with the fluffy stuff. Hand holding, pecks on the cheek, casual snuggles or foot rubs. If he's been away from them for a while, he'll also just go in for that long-awaited smooch, regardless who else may be around. The more suggestive/spicier stuff he'll save for more private locations... unless he's maybe had a bit too much to drink, then he finds it funny to tease in public.
Send a fluff alphabet request and help me get back into the swing of writing!

“Is this fitting right?” “You’re a ghost, it’s not like they’ll be able to tell if it doesn’t.” for Writer's Choice!
Reggie was in his glee as he wandered the aisles of the Spirit of Halloween store that Julie had let them tag along to. She was invited to a party for the holiday and needed a new costume, and given the franchise hadn't been a thing when the guys died, grudgingly allowed them to come with her.
"Just... try not to get caught," she said with a sigh, going off towards the section of women's costumes.
Reggie started pawing at everything, each new costume making his eyes wider and wider, his smile growing, and he crowed as little with each new discovery. "Oh look, The Simpsons is still a thing! And Freddy Kruger! Oooooh, maybe go classic Dracula?"
Luke was busy judging all the famous musician costumes, lamenting that it seemed to centre on Bowie, Freddie, and Elvis. "Look, I like all three, but where's the Billie Joe? The Jimmy Page? The Cobain?"
"Why are you two even looking for costumes?" Alex asked, though he did linger on the sparkly Starman era Bowie costume.
"Because Julie said we could come to the party with her!" Reggie replied, rifling through the racks. Then he held up a Han Solo costume with a reverent gasp. "I'm gonna try this on!" And poofed away.
Luke wandered over and grabbed a Luke Skywalker costume, shrugging. "When in Rome. Alex there's a Chewie one here too if you want!"
"I don't think you'll have much luck getting Julie to be Leia," the drummer replied, "Besides, you know I'm gonna be Boba Fett." Luke then held up the costume for the famous bounty hunter and Alex let his shoulders slump. "Okay."
He went over to the fitting rooms where Reggie was admiring himself in the mirror, making finger guns and turned to the guys. "Is this fitting right?"
"You're a ghost," Alex snarked. "It's not like they'll be able to tell if it doesn't."
"But what if we end up playing at the party?" Reggie asked.
"It looks great babe," Luke remarked, slipping into his own costume, dressing room be damned. Alex rolled his eyes and slipped into Reggie's unoccupied room to try on his ensemble, unable to keep the pleased smile off his face when it fit. They grabbed the accessories and went off to find Julie, who was lined up at the checkout.
"Hey Jules!" Reggie said, bouncing on his toes. "We found our costumes!" He then tried to peer at whatever Julie had in her hands "What are you dressing up as?"
"No peeking!" she hissed, low enough that no one around her could hopefully hear. "And no shoplifting! Gimme your stuff and I'll pay for it out of your share of the last gig fee."
"You're the best Julie!" Luke and Reggie chorused, dumping their finds into her awaiting arms. She and Alex shared an eye roll before he gently handed her his costume and went off to ensure the boys didn't start yet another lightsaber fight.
The day of the party, the guys were ready to go, and looking mighty fine, if they did say so themselves. Even if no one but Julie would be able to appreciate it unless they got asked to play. Which Julie did tell them would probably happen. But not if they were late, which they were in danger of being since Julie was still upstairs getting ready.
"Should I go up and check on her?" Luke asked, twirling his lightsaber around.
"Only if you want her to hit you with that," Alex replied.
"Ahem, are we ready to go?"
The boys turned, and Reggie's jaw hit the floor. Because Julie was there in a gorgeous white dress, her hair in an intricate braid, and a chunky looking necklace around her neck, looking just like Leia at the end of A New Hope.
"Oh my gosh, Julie!" he exclaimed. "I love you!"
Julie giggled, coming close to straighten out his vest, looking up at him from beneath her eyelashes. "I know."
Luke and Alex shared a grin at Reggie's blushing cheeks, his dopey smile, and Julie's equally besotted look. Who cared if they were late to the party if those two were finally going to get their heads out of their asses and figure things out?
The party was a hit, and everyone loved their set, plus their group costumes. And if afterwards, Julie dragged Reggie away to compliment him on how good he looked before granting him a sweet and passionate goodnight kiss? Well that just made the evening all the better.
And he was totally keeping the costume for next year, as Julie had whispered a promise to learn how to do the cinnamon roll buns by then. Well Reggie had swept her into another kiss for that, every bit of love he had for this girl being pushed into it.
Julie finally broke the kiss, flushed and pleased, grinning from ear to ear. Entering the house, and looking behind her just before closing the door. "Love you Reggie."
Reggie couldn't help but beam, blowing her one last kiss. "Oh Julie, I know."

27 | Gang Rivalry
Pairing: Mikey x Fem!Reader
Undercover Masterlist
As you and Mikey stroll along the busy streets, the midday sun casts a warm glow on the city. Construction work is in full swing, thanks to the funds you and Mikey raised through your fundraiser. Mikey wears a wide smile, satisfied with the change he's brought to the community.
As you reach the beach, the crashing of waves fills the air. Leaning against the stone wall, you both gaze out at the glistening water. Mikey lets out a contented sigh, his eyes filled with dreams and hope. "I want to keep making a difference here," he says, his voice filled with determination.
You admire his unwavering spirit and respond, "You've already done so much, Mikey. It's incredible to see how passionate you are about using everything you have for good."
Mikey's eyes light up with a spark of excitement. "Yeah, but there's still so much more we can do. We've helped with the construction, provided support to the local businesses, but there are other issues we can tackle. Like education, youth programs, creating a safer environment for everyone."
You chuckle and shake your head. "Yeah, well, that's the complete opposite of Taiju. He's all about power and control. But your group is different. You want to make a real impact." Curiosity suddenly sparks in your eyes. "Speaking of which, what did you have Hakkai do the other night? He's been unusually quiet."
Mikey raises an eyebrow, a confused glint in his eyes. "Oh, he didn't tell you? Apparently, Kokonoi had him go to the Black Mire and steal a woman."
"A woman?" you gasp. "Do you know who she is? Hakkai hasn't told me anything... he's been keeping to himself ever since then."
"No," he shakes his head, his expression growing serious. But before either of you can say more, your conversation is interrupted by the arrival of Mitsuya. He runs up to you, his voice laced with concern.
"Hey, guys, we've got some serious trouble. Apparently, Koko saw Hakkai and me together the other night, and it seems like he's turned us in to Taiju. The Black Dragons are planning a major attack on the Tokyo Manji Gang," Mitsuya reveals.
Mikey's eyes narrow with anger, his frustration evident. "Damn it, Taiju is such an asshole," he mutters under his breath. In a decisive move, he grabs your hand and tugs you back to the headquarters of the Tokyo Manji Gang. Inside, he calls for Draken, urgency in his voice as he explains the situation.
Once the three of you are sitting together in a room, Draken's voice is calm but stern as he addresses the situation. "Fighting won't align with the new image we're trying to establish. We need to find a different approach to resolve this conflict," he advises, understanding the importance of appearances and reputation.
"Well we damn sure need to do something about this," Mikey disagrees bluntly.
You find yourself agreeing with Draken's viewpoint, believing that Toman shouldn't resort to violence. However, Mikey's frustration gets the best of him, and he continues to disagree with both of you, insisting on confronting Taiju head-on. When the tension between you and Mikey reaches its peak, and in a moment of frustration, you decide to walk out.
Outside, you spot Takemichi and Hina, familiar faces that bring a sense of comfort. A warm smile spreads across your face as you approach them. "Hey, guys, how are you doing?" you ask genuinely.
"Can't complain," Takemichi grins as he looks over at his lovely girlfriend.
"Me neither," Hina replies happily. And in that moment, a light switch within you turns on.
"Hina, do you have a moment?" you then ask her rather quickly. However, before she can even open her mouth, you swiftly guide her away from Takemichi.
"What's going on, Y/N?" she asks as you find a more secluded spot in the building.
You turn to her, desperation evident in your eyes as you begin to explain to her everything with Taiju, Hakkai, and the Toman gang.
"I'm really sorry you're dealing with all of that, Y/N, but, uh, how can I help?" Hina asks honestly, her concern evident.
You take a moment to gather your thoughts, realizing that Hina's brother might hold a crucial role in resolving this situation. "Are you still close with Naoto?" you ask, hoping for a positive response.
Hina nods, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. "Yes, we're still in touch. Why?"
A sense of relief washes over you, and you explain your idea. "I think if he agrees to help, he could make everything a lot easier for Mikey and the others. We need all the support we can get."
Understanding the gravity of the situation, Hina quickly grabs a pen and paper from a nearby desk, swiftly jotting down her brother's address. "Here, go now. He'll be home, and you can talk to him directly," she suggests, handing you the paper. "It's better than doing it over the phone."
Appreciating her quick action, you express your gratitude. "Thank you, Hina. I'll head there right away. I promise it'll make a big difference."
Hina hesitates for a moment, then asks if she should say anything to Takemichi about your plan. You shake your head, noting that maintaining the secret is crucial. "No, it's better if he doesn't know. If things look too clean and don't go down smoothly, it could worsen the situation for Toman in Taiju's eyes."
Understanding the importance of discretion, Hina nods in agreement. "I understand. Good luck, Y/N. Please take care," she says sincerely.
With a determined nod, you turn and start running toward Naoto's address, hoping that this unexpected alliance can turn the tide and protect the future of Toman.
