Love (cannot emphasis how much sarcasm there is in that word) that an official Canadian government response to high cellphone rates is to switch carriers.

Switch it to what? We basically have three companies since one was allowed to eat the forth (with the government saying it wasn't anti-competition and the company eating the other pinky promising they wouldn't jack rates up). Even the smaller companies have to rent infrastructure from the Big Three so there's only so much they can do if that rent costs an arm and a leg.

And that's not touching on how many "small companies" are actually just subsidiaries of the Big Three. You may save $5 but you're still with Telus/Rogers/Bell.

Or that the actual small companies tend to have shit coverage because they don't have the infrastructure available to them and are prevented from getting it. Or their traffic is throttled in favour of the Big Three's customers. Or both.

Or that they're extremely regional thus aren't an option for a huge chunk of Canada's population.

We have no true options and the government has shown time and again that they're fine with monopolies, in multiple industries, and don't care when said monopolies jack up prices to make shareholders and the c-suite more money at the expense of everyone else. At most there will be a verbal slap on the wrist and a giftcard for $25 that people have to register for, for a decade and a half of price gouging.

It's not talked a whole lot about outside the country from what I've seen and heard but Canada is a country of monopolies. A handful of companies own nearly everything, every province has a family or two that owns a hell of a lot (Nova Scotia is basically owned by one family at this point), and our government ignores it. Even the branch that is supposed to be against monopolies is fine with mergers and takeovers in most cases.

Because, you know, the company said it totally wouldn't use consumers' lack of options to increase prices.

#canada #so much of our infrastructure and critical construction such as housing #has been pawned off for decades to private companies #and i forgot to mention one (1) family owns the bridge that is a major international corridor between canada and the us #which is apparently fine even though they fought tooth and nail to stop a bridge they don't own from being built #like our housing crisis can be traced back to the government deciding to stop building public housing in the 90s #because they figured private developers would pick up the slack #affordable apartments don't bring in much money so we got decades of cheap-ass 'luxury condos' instead #and once airbnb became a thing we got entire buildings with units <300sqft #and of course when the party in charge rotates between conservatives and neolibs nothing changes and that can gets kicked down the road #and keeps getting kicked until something collapses and they see the chance to fully privatize an industry #something similar is happening to our healthcare system too #it has been left to languish for years/decades with funding freezes and cuts #and private companies are quick to jump in and get the government stamp of approval to do [thing] that the public system clearly can't do #when [thing] would absolutely be possible if it was actually funded and/or staffed #so many communities were cut off when greyhound closed up shop because there's no government inter-city transportation #we lost internet/banking/cell service/etc nation-wide because one of the big three decided to push an update to live without redundancies #and it bugged and took the entire company's network down #even the government agency that demands major companies have a backup on a different network was taken down because they ignored that #and they got a deal if they kept their backup with rogers while their main network was also rogers #so they couldn't even make an emergency statement or anything about it #half my province also lost all digital infrastructure because it's a private company and making a redundancy line would mean smaller bonuse #it's just so bad #joke all you want about how canada is nice and friendly #but you are wrong and it's hell if you actually live here #the only reason canada is seen as nice is because it's hard to not seem like the better option when the us is your neighbour #and because of decades of pr work to make canada seem friendly and nice and not at all problematic #in some countries you actually have to try to hide you're canadian because of how much we colonize and the damage we do to other countries #yes these tags have derailed from the post but ugh #i take major issue with people who insist canada is nice and has never done anything wrong

modern au dad askeladd except he's not an actual dad but this random kid shows up to his house every day and tries to have beef over the closed food store askeladd bought and turned into an antiquarian store. turns out the food store used to be run by the kid's father until he passed away which is very sad of course but also askeladd is not gonna cooperate with some brat that borderline harasses him day by day. only that he can't call the cops because he kinda has a turbulent past and if they find out he's filling his store with stolen goods it's gonna become a huge problem. and note to destiny, the stupid kid finding out is not that great either because now he has to hear it out if he doesn't wanna go to prison and also he should probably learn the demon child's name while he's at it. shenanigans ensue.

#askeladd agrees to honor the memory of thorfinn's dad and in return thorfinn won't call the cops on him #then they fight about how the honoring should be done #askeladd doesn't want to change his entire store's image only to make sure people don't forget about the former owner #and thorfinn isn't satisfied with just a sign with his dad's name on it which is as far as askeladd is willing to go #things change when some rich jackass wants to buy every building on the street and turn the whole area into a luxury resort #now thorfinn and askeladd have to work together because thorfinn doesn't want his dad's store to vanish #and askeladd doesn’t want HIS STORE to be torn down because smuggling the stolen stuff out of town would be a pain #(also affordable houses with basements big enough to keep the meth laboratory running are rare these days)#(also also thorfinn learns some kind of martial art in the dojo across the street which is whatever but the coach is really nice)#(like. Minho goes off on loud tirades when he gets frustrated. It's not very coherent and usually isn't targeted at anyone (often inanimate objects). He just needs to say words in an attention-grabbing way.

He gets more persistent with each attempt to interrupt him, and eventually the Gladers learn to let him get it out of his system. It makes for good entertainment.

More than a few times on his rants, Minho will stutter off into silence, wracking his brain for a word. Abruptly, he spits out something in Korean, pause briefly to question where the hell that sound came from (memory wiped, Korean language gone) and why it makes so much sense to him.

Then he shrugs and continues on shouting at a shovel.

WCKD is fascinated by how he manages to retain some Korean even after the memory wipe.

I hatehatehate fanfic.net’s layout. I just spent the last three hours scrolling through their hellsite(not affectionate) looking for one fic whose title I don’t remember that I read back in high school. Their filters are shit, their tagging system is horrible. And I’m remembering why I finally switched to ao3 when I saw how little interaction there is between creators and readers, and what little there is tells me there’s a reason for the delete comment button.

#cyber bullying is a horrible thing #and when you can’t comment back due to the site’s idiotic layout or even retaliate #the commenters think they have free rein #THAT is the primary reason I left bc I kept getting bombed with variations of ‘your writing sucks you should kill yourself’#and ‘maybe don’t write in this fandom’#I WAS 14 WHEN I STARTED #OF COURSE MY WRITING SUCKED #but instead of constructive criticism and helpful suggestions to become a better writer #I just got hate from others (other writers even!)#they’re incredibly territorial and the whole site is toxic #rant post #personal #fanfic.net #also #i did manage to find the fic but not before mangling my sanity on their stupid filters

So I saw your tags and I need to know what what songs you think Corroded Coffin would cover (both in universe and if you feel like it, modern au too)

ohhhhhh my friend you do not know what you are about to unleash but for your sake I will limit myself.

First off though!!! I've said it before but i'll say it again, I firmly believe in my blood and bones that corroded coffin have a stack of off the wall covers. they only do one per set and its not every set they do them in so people try to make it to every show because the alternative covers become iconic.

conventional covers though, I'd love to see them tearing up

TW injury, scars

So I've been trying to work on Twist's scar on her stomach but I'm having trouble because it just keeps looking like a tattoo, or, as @matronofthevoid says, a sea slug on her belly...

So far I have these down

The pink was a mistake on the first, it's supposed to be a blue. The green is because her original wound had corrosive Sanitized ink preventing it from healing multiple times. The line in the middle are the properly healed stiches and the blue tint around the wound is supposed to show that her skin is much thinner in that area and her internal ink shows through (also the blue parts glow slightly because Twist is mildly bioluminescent as is her natural ink)

I wanna make it look like an actually serious scar but I don't know if that would work in my general art style, and I don't really want to look up scar references because I am very squeamish.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I’d wager that in the next few days/maybe a week, blumhouse will announce they’ve started pre-production on the fnaf movie sequel. Regardless of whether you liked the movie or not, its a box office hit. They’ve got a majority of their important props and sets already made, which is an added bonus.

If they’ve already got ideas in mind for how they want the sequel to go and depending how the development goes, filming could start early next year.

#that’s just my guess #as someone who’s studied film production and taken film courses #I doubt we’re gonna wait another 8 years for the sequel #my hopes is that they DO take some constructive criticism to heart and keep them in mind when they start script writing
