Hinata Hyuga Slander and why it is obnoxiously idiotic.
I actually thought the Hinata Slander was a joke or one or two people sided with it. But I am totally taken aback to realize that it’s actually real—and a little popular—it’s real?
Prepare for a run down through Naruto Series kids, because some few fellas clearly did not watch it properly. Either that, orrr…they’re filled with unreasonable hatred for a character who should be the last to be hated. By literally anybody.
I’m going to try to keep this short (I’m lying), but there are going to be topics on Hinata I’m going to go over so it’s not a messy bunch and rather organized and you can skip to which ever you find most relevant.
Before anything, a remark, I never overly cared for Hinata’s existence and she isn’t even in my top 15 Naruto characters but that does not mean I dislike her nor do I look down at her character. Now imagine a person like me going out of their way to take time and write an entire blog for her—yeah, it’s that ridiculous.
There will be that one person—and I’m saying this beforehand—who will barely skim through this and childishly reply to my blog. Catch me caring though!
Tumblr media
All of the topics will include manga based evidence as well as a breakdown of the scene and what they portray, therefore, canon reasonings. There are plenty of other and more evidence out there, I will only provide some and main ones that back up claims. Here are topics I will be going over:
Hinata Hyuga as an anime character/character writing
Personality
Goals & Dedications
Skills & Strength
Incessant Love for Naruto Uzumaki
Tumblr media
#1 Character Writing
While many people believe that Kishimoto is terrible at writing female characters, I’d like to disagree. Females like Temari, Konan, Ino, and Karin all pass the main checkmarks of being an exceptionally “good” character; a solid background/past, special abilities, and set personality. What I do agree with though is that he does not know how to put them to use, and it is obvious why. These females were not the only ones tossed aside—so were good characters like Lee, Neji, Jiraiya, and so on, all because of the author’s obsession with the Uchiha as well as Sasuke’s story.
Hinata is included in the “good” character checklist, and rather exceeds. The difference between her and the rest of the women is that she is the best representation of an individualistic woman and had incredible character development.
↓ How did we go from a girl so easily shaken and brought down with mere words
Tumblr media
↓ To the girl who had the guts to charge against an Akatsuki member,
Tumblr media
↓ And seeked frontlines during the war?
Tumblr media
It may look like it’s only for the sake of Naruto, but it’s not entirely the reason, only partial. Everybody was set on saving Naruto anyway, instead of fighting the war themselves because they knew Naruto was their key to winning.
Hinata’s introduction may have started with her admiration for Naruto Uzumaki, and it did play a big part, but her entire existence never just revolved around romance. She had way more to her. Hinata’s character itself promotes women empowerment despite her not being the main female protagonist.
Through her writing, we learn that women don’t need to not seek love in order to be independent and a powerful female with goals and dedications that have nothing to do with romance. Hinata is a perfect example of this.
As a side-side character, Hinata excels in character writing, and is interesting enough to keep the audience invested in her existence. The next few manga pages and break-downs will explain it well.
Tumblr media
#2 Personality
Her personality did not revolve around her undying love for Naruto only. She was her own person, too.
↓ While shy and timid, Hinata is also a pure and kind hearted soul, as we do not know any character she actually has bad blood with, making her somebody easy to be around with. She’s very gentle, making the atmosphere around her almost tranquil.
Tumblr media
↓ Her conflict with Neji was very one-sided, and despite his harsh treatments, she still used honorifics and respected him.
Tumblr media
↓ Yes, she might be a soft human being, but not to the point she is unable to pick out flaws in other people.
Tumblr media
She seems more warmed up in Shippuden than she was in Classic, and it’s fair to say that ever since Chunin exams, she had gained confidence with the help of Naruto’s cheering. Confidence in herself and her skills. (Panels above may help)
Something to keep in mind is that Neji was known to be more cold, arrogant, and stronger than Sasuke during this time, by Kakashi’s words.
↓ Yet Hinata did not back away even after being told to, multiple times I believe, even by Kiba himself.
Tumblr media
↓ This was the beginning of her journey of trying to be more assertive about herself, as she believes she could keep on going without chickening out.
Tumblr media
↓ And she didn't back away when someone from the Hyuga Clan told her to do so--she was persistent.
Tumblr media
Hinata was never meant to be somebody with great leadership skills; she has always been a follower, almost, who takes a lot of inspiration from people she looks up to. The obvious person, Naruto, and Neji were mentioned.
Tumblr media
#3 Goals & Dedications
Her goal had never been only to be a wife and a lover to Naruto. It was one of her goals, the hope to get Naruto to acknowledge her, which he did several times. But that was not it, there was more.
Hinata did not seem so close with her family, so she had no certain goals regarding the Hyuga Clan. She was almost avoiding them and was deemed to be a shinobi, which she probably preferred, participated, and found likeness to, rather than the next heir to the Hyuga Clan, simply because her father did not believe her feather-like personality was fit for it, nor did Hinata seem too interested to lead a clan with such twisted rules and laws.
Despite her father's harsh, degrading words (and Neji's), she did not let it effect her because she continued to get stronger later on.
Tumblr media
Hinata always wanted to be self-assured, and wanted to be as confident as Naruto always has been. She wanted to be of use, somehow. Refer to #2, second last image.
↓ Here, too, we see her admitting that she never believed in herself, until she did.
Tumblr media
"I stared liking myself a little more..." shows she had very little fondness for herself.
Hinata wanted to change herself for a very long time. She did not ever want to stay the way she used to be--scared.
Another admittance,
Tumblr media
But then...
Tumblr media
All of these images show that Hinata had something she was thriving for, something she was dedicated to achieve that was not just romance. So, props to Hinata (and Tenten, but that's another story) for actually having a goal/objective.
Tumblr media
#4 Skills & Strength
All powers Hinata has been shown to use/possess:
Byakugan (Kekkei Genkai)
Gentle Fist (Specific Taijutsu)
The Eight Trigrams (Air Palm, Palm Rotation, 64-Palms)
The Gentle Step; Twin Lion Fist
The Eight Trigram; Twin Lions Surging Shots (Utilizes Hagoromo's Chakra)
Hamura Otsutsuki's Chakra
And some others I might’ve missed
I'm not going to make this section breaking down each ability, but I'm going to use this information to factually prove that Hinata has more amounts of known and used abilities than probably all female characters, as well as like 90% of overall Naruto characters or something. And she's definitely stronger than a lot of characters, logically, despite her not having been in fights very often.
During younger years, Hinata Hyuga was put against Neji Hyuga—once again, claimed to be possibly stronger than Sasuke at that time—and Hinata was actually able to put up with Neji. For a bit, or a while, it doesn't matter. For a young, scared girl who has never been in a fight before to be able to do so speaks for her skills.
Tumblr media
Inexperienced against the nearly strongest genin, one filled with hatred, among her generation, Hinata exceeded enough.
↓ In Shippuden, we even get a scene where she protects Neji!
Tumblr media
There's a very few people Hinata actually canonically fought, but when she did, she did plenty well for being a side-side character.
↓...And that same side-side character, Hinata Hyuga, was the only kunoichi in the entire show to actually land a hit on Pain, during Pain Arc. The inevitable praise.
Tumblr media
Here comes the cries of, “but she was flung LOL” “hinata didn’t achieve shit from this” “he threw her like she was nothing”
Frankly, those are most ignorant things you can say regarding her actions. To stand up against an Akatsuki member? That takes a lot of balls, considering that nobody was standing up for Naruto, and practically gave up, giving into Pain’s near-victory.
The entire point was not even to defeat Pain—it was to defend Naruto. And in doing so, she stalled for a bit, preventing him from immediately killing Naruto. In that amount of time, the few who remained could’ve backed her up, they could’ve offered some sense of rescue, but because of twist of fate, and the expected, Hinata was unable to keep Pain off of Naruto. It brought her to near-death, triggering Naruto Uzumaki’s 9-Tail-Fox.
Hinata was the fiercest woman. She wasn’t stupid, she accepted she was weaker and couldn't win before she even got onto the battle field. But she tried.
Tumblr media
The scene was never about physical strength to begin with; it was her strong mindset and dedication. She was aware of the consequences and still stepped in, demonstrating her everlasting commitment for Naruto. This entirely proves that she not only had great self-development, she had the audacity to stand against the strongest Akatsuki member (excluding Obito), who killed a Legendary Sannin.
Tumblr media
#5 Incessant Love for Naruto Uzumaki
In the entirety of Naruto Anime existence (excluding Boruto), only one of its movies have been considered canon, that being Naruto: The Last.
While I hoped it would show us Naruto promoting to Hokage, all of it was focused on Hinata and Naruto's relationship, and we found out a lot through it. Like, a lot.
There are very few couple/characters in Naruto that actually have past together/some story and strong reasoning to start liking their love interest. Such characters being Kushina, Karin, Konan (the K's lol), and of course, Hinata.
There are filler episodes that go before The Last, but I wouldn't count them (even if they add on to the actual story), but in The Last, we figure out that Hinata and Naruto first met when he protected her from getting bullied due to her Byakugan, and he gets beaten up for it.
Tumblr media
"Never go back on my word" was one of Naruto's internal rules that he stuck by and it made up his entire personality, almost. Hinata really seemed to respect it and use it for herself.
She tend to turn his imperfections into motivations,
Tumblr media
Those feelings seem to get more bold in Shippuden and more confronting. So much so she did not hesitate to put her life on the line for the boy. Not "just because." Hinata gave a list of unavoidable reasonings, that we were able to point out, too.
Tumblr media
And vice-versa, she did make a difference in Naruto's life pre-marriage. She gave him courage, motivation, and a reason to keep going. Refer to the fourth image in this section, too.
Then, our closure, he finally realized that Hinata has been there for him since the beginning of the times (also in The Last).
Tumblr media
“…but…but…! Hinata is a stalker! She was always watching Naruto! She’s so creepy!”
Okay, but her canonically shown watching Naruto was like, twice in 700 episodes… ↓
Tumblr media
And...honestly...it's not really...that...deep...lol? Old Japanese humor. And don't act like girls nowadays don't stalk the shit out of the boy they like--let's get real here. Just get over it. It's an exaggerated cartoon.
People have different views when it comes to love. But one thing I heavily disagree with are weak or false reasonings to fall in love with somebody. You’ll screw yourself over. Seeing a guy walk through the door and finding him physically attractive should not be your reason to “fall in love” and keeping that reason forever; you’re falling in love with his body, not him. It could be the start of your interest. Taking your time to get to know what kind of individual they are, and then accepting their personality, and falling in love with that person is guaranteed success. Reasons are important.
And Hinata understood that well, unlike someone who didn’t (I’m throwing shade!)
Tumblr media
(A very quick addition and counter-argument I might get is that Hinata was the cause of Neji's death. I didn't want to put this into an entire section because it'll involve mentioning Neji's own character. But to be frank, Neji chose to protect Hinata and died that way. And I idiotically love Neji far more than Hinata. You don't need somebody's permission to protect them, nor did Neji do it just because he was the lower branch of the Hyuga Clan. Neji and Hinata’s relationship was beyond that. Way beyond. Reread the manga, or even rewatch the anime, and listen and figure out why he did what he did. It had nothing to do with Hinata being a higher rank than him, at least not entirely at all.)
__________________________________________
I was going to add another section titled, "Comparison", but because of image restrictions and as well as the thought that this blog is only about Hinata, I scratched it out.
I don't even praise Hinata. She isn't my favorite Naruto female, either. Personally, for me, she just existed as a character. But I'd be damned if I threw any dirt on her for any reason.
If anything, I believe Hinata Hyuga's character is underappreciated in the way she should be appreciated. She's not just some...loyal, attractive girl (hell, Kishimoto never canonically even drew her with tight/exposing clothing, they were always baggy. So, screw the anime studio.) She was a figure of a powerful woman, better written than any other female in Naruto, and a strong individual, with more story than several, several other characters.
So when I heard "Hinata Slander" was a real thing, truly, I was baffled. I'll admit my blog was quite messy despite my effort to keep it organized with main claims and obvious evidence, but there are still multiple more panels that back up everything I've mentioned that make up Hinata's character.
After all this, I really don't think there's anything that can be said against her in the context (and lie) of "she is a horrible character." And there aren't a lot of characters she can fairly be compared to, anyway. She's just awesome.
As a person, and a side-side anime character, Hinata Hyuga undeniably exceeded.
"Hinata Slander" is fake. Find something better to do than embarrassing yourself.

I saw you rb a SaiSaku post and was curious if you had any fanfic recs for this rarepair?!
Do I have?!!!!! I am currently binging this ship so you couldn't have asked this at better time.
.
This pair is not a crack ship! Crack would mean they have not shared more than two words with each other. But SaiSaku interactions always bordered on romance and best friends who don't act like it. Not only Sakura was the first person to acknowledge Sai had human side to him and bonded with him over his painting, Sai was also the only person outside Sasuke (in part 1) to be able tell her fake smiles and he always understood her feelings better than other characters. Had Sakura ever only cared for good looks (something she don't) then with Sai she'd get that and so much more.
I have always considered SaiSaku as the next best thing after NaruSaku. They had too much potential as a couple. I am not bitter that InoSai became a thing but looking at them I only feel that "Ino didn't get Sasuke so she get his look-alike." Besides, Sai gave people nicknames that are opposites to what actually feels about them – Naruto as Dickless, Sakura as Hag/Ugly and Ino as Beautiful – which makes it worse. Both Ino and Sai deserve better than this. If Kishi has shown them together more often or had interactions between them similar to SaiSaku then I can understand why Ino is his light. I guess it is also SP's fault for showing them in different light. For all SP hates Sakura, they enjoy messing up with her fans by feeding them false hope.
Whenever I want to read something hilarious but deep, SaiSaku is my to-go couple. Usually angsty, or full bout of insults and punches. There's no in between with them.
. SaiSaku .

This list contains my favorite SaiSaku collection. I am not sure if you like SaiSaku only as romance ship but this list also contain stories that expands on SaiSaku friendship, something I absolutely adore.

Naruto Season 1 and 2 ramblings under the cut
Tumblr media
Season 1
Genuinely thought Kakashi was a villain when I first saw him 🤡 now he is my best friend 🤝 (of course a villain can absolutely be your fav character within reason of course, you are valid for that but my point is that I didn’t trust him at all at the beginning because I genuinely thought he was gonna hate on team 7).
It did feel very long at times, especially the plot with that fog ninja on the bridge with that younger ninja I was like ah ha ha okay when is this ending??? Sasuke was stuck in that mirror prison for sooooo long 🚶🏽‍♀️skdjjsjd this plot really took up so much of the season when there was no reason for it in my opinion
I am glad things picked up once they started that exam and we met new characters <3
Overall, not a bad season I just wish the pace had been faster. I was also watching other things in between so maybe that’s why it felt so long?? Idk
Season 2
The exam in the forest was ??????? I still have no real clue who that snake-like ninja is and why he really wants Sasuke, either I’m dumb or it wasn’t explained a lot?? I also don’t understand why that exam proctor has the bite mark (curse mark??) thing either but oh well!
Thought it was really cool how that other team helped Sakura when Naruto and Sasuke were knocked out 🤝
HOWEVER my question is what is Sakura good at??????? I feel like she stands around most of the time with her knife and that’s IT! Like 🧍‍♀️🔪. Half the time she is on screen, it’s just her going ‘Naruto!!!’ Or ‘Sasuke!!!!’.
With the preliminary exams, I personally did not think half of this season would just be battles between them but turns out, it’s just that! Very entertaining to watch and I loved seeing everyone’s special abilities. Personally, I have such a soft spot for Team 8!!!! Mostly because I think Kiba has a really cool design (I love his look in general) and I am honestly obsessed with Shino’s bug abilities mostly because I just like that kinda stuff eifjdjd I love bugs dude! Also, I think Hinata is neat and she has so much potential as a Ninja so I really hope we see more of her!!!
Gara is unhinged and I am Afraid. I hope more of his backstory is covered and I also want to know if there is an actual demon inside of him or if it’s just metaphorical 🤔
ROCK LEE! I am adopting him. He is my son. I feel so bad because he was just trying to find his own Ninja way broooo aHHHHH
Also, when Sakura and Ino were battling I really just 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴 it was sooooo boring and I skipped over their flashbacks because it was so very blah to me. I’m just annoyed because I know there is probably more to Sakura, but they made her so flat 😩 I hope she does more in future reasons.
Overall, a step up from season 1 and I’ll probably yell about the final exam later once I start season 3. I will probably take a break from the show for a while because I think I watched season 2 too fast lmaoo but thank u for reading if you made it this far <3 p.s I love kakashi he is absolutely my favourite character

I agree with Kishimoto never trying to use the girls. The hate they get is not fair. I used to defend Sakura back in the days because I hoped kishi would do her justice. When shippuden started I WAS SO HAPPY because I thought this was the start of something great for Sakura and the girls but NOOOOO. Every time, Sasuke showed kishi turned her brainless. If you compare Naruto's actions and Sakura's actions to sasuke, you'd see they're completely different. What's up with that weird fake love confession scene 😭? It makes her look like she was manipulating Naru. JEEZ.
Also he literally had badass Tenten and Temari with cool useful abilities and he didn't use them ?! TF ?! Thank god for modern authors who treat their characters with respect :)
okay2 you know how i am with these longass rants so click readmore and brace yourselves
The way I see it, Sakura's character development in shippuden was always one step forward, two steps back. She gets this really badass scene (like her fight with Sasori and those cool ass medical skills) but is then regressed back into a pining girl in love every time Sauce is on screen or Kishi just throws her in the background YET AGAIN.
I love Sakura's abilities actually. Her brute strength, intelligence, vast knowledge and skill as a medic nin. But what I dislike about her character is how kishi handled her feelings for Sasuke. Naruto and Sakura's obsession with Sasuke was so???? huh??? it was so damn toxic and i never once understood why both Nardo and Sak were so obsessed with him. They were a team for one year???? I mean its great that they care about him alot but Sauce's feelings were kinda valid. His freakin clan died. Id go batshit crazy against my own village too. BUT BESIDES THAT. Both Nart and Sakura's Sasuke obsession was so annoying. 80% of shippuden was literally Keeping up with the Uchihas or Naruto yelling SASUKEH. BUT what irks me so much is the fandom's double standards with both Naruto and Sakura. "Oh Sakura shouldve gotten over her Sasuke obsession" but then turn around and call Naruto's obsession cute and gush about how he's so in love with him!!
Hot take but the only reason why sasunaru is "the most developed ship with the most chemistry" is because theyre both male characters.
I guarantee you if Naruto was a girl and SHE would be the one to have this unhealthy obsession who was chasing around Sasuke, the fandom would shit on Naruto just as much. And if Sasuke were a girl, Sauce would be sidelined like the rest of the female cast and Naruto would have another male character to have a "brotherly bond" with, because thats the only bond Kishimoto is actually good at developing. Yey for male characters having all the screentime and cool assets <333
And about that confession scene, I get her intentions. I really do. I understand that she did that in order to bring him home and that she cares about him but honey, w-why?? Why lie to him about your feelings?? Supposed he DID believe her, then what? then what kishi???? huh??? Some of her fans point the blame on Sai or whatever but I personally dont see why that scene was at all necessary. Maybe to establish Naruto's feelings for her wasnt all that serious? or his maturity? idk man. That scene was such a clusterfuck.
In the end her development in The Last and in Boruto was immaculate. She had one of the best glow ups in the old gen and ironically enough, her character wasn't butchered in Boruto. She got badass scenes she was cheated from in shippuden. I also love how she's finally getting the spotlight she deserves. Unlike the other konoha 12 :,)))
Okay onto the next female character that Kishi completely wasted. My baby. My light. 🙈 AAAHHH HINATAA.
I DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN OKAY2 DEEP BREATHS.
Let me just establish this real quick. Hinata's goal was to get stronger because of Naruto, her goal was never to be with Naruto. She wanted to become someone who is worthy enough to stand beside him, someone whom he can consider as an equal, as a partner. She NEVER once said "marrying Naruto-kun is my all time goal UwU" (if youre one of those weirdos who interpret her character that way, youre immediately invalid, go take a hike)
I personally dont have anything against their crushes but to the point of making their personalities revolve around these guys every time theyre onscreen is so fucking frustrating. And with the way he writes their dialogues is so.damn.cringey. Like that one scene in the war arc with Tsunade and Madara
"I mAy bE a WomAn but I aM nOt WeAAKKKK"
BAAHAHAAHHA WHAT?? Everyone else gets coolass monologues and one liners but thats the best you can come up with Kishi?????? Hilarious.
If im being honest. Hinata's character is actually kinda well written. Not well executed. Dear God no. But with the way he set her story, her personality, her chracterization. She's honestly one of the best written female characters on the show. IMO. By Kishi's standards of writing women ofc. She's hands down one of the most complex characters. Her shy personality wasnt out of the blue, it wasnt a cutesy waifu trait. Her abusive upbringing made her that way. Her trauma turned her that way. So yeah, sue her if she looked up to Naruto as an inspiration when everyone else in her family treated her like dust. Shit on her for having Naruto's love light in her dark when her own damn father wouldnt even look her in the eye and her entire clan shunned her because she was "weak." She doesnt owe her family shit so idgaf what they do with the Hyuga clan. Neji and Hanabi aren't included btw
Im not gonna deny that her role in the show was only as the love interest but tbh for a love interest, Im glad her character wasnt so one dimensional. It just pains me SO MUCHHH how fucking wasted she is. Every time she's with Naruto, they always make her into a damsel in distress. They always feel the need to turn Naruto into the heroic prince. How cute.
LIKE THAT ONE SCENE IN THE LAST WHERE SHE'S THROWN IN THE CAGE?? WHY??? LET NARUTO AND HINA FIGHT THAT FREAKING ALIEN GOD TOGETHER. QUIT WITH THE TOXIC MASCULINITY. WE GET IT. NARUTO'S STRONG. GOOD FOR HIM. NOW LETS SEE HINATA THROW HANDS AND PUT NARUTO IN THE CAGE GODAMMIT
Hnggggg dont get me started with her role in Boruto. She's as relevant as a damn houseplant in the manga. They made her into an invisible trophy wife and "the mc's mother" and we all KNOW what happens to the shounen mc's mother once mc is in need of character development :) Quit putting her in the background. Give us that scene where she won against Hanabi DESPITE being retired for years. Give us that scene where she trains Boruto. GIVE US ANY FIGHT SCENE OF HER WHERE HER POTENTIAL ISNT WASTED WTF?¿
Now if you say that Hinata didnt have development. YOURE INVALID. She came from an abusive household, the shyest girl in her class, her insecurities got in the way of her own confidence, had difficulty of standing up for herself now became a loving mother of two, has the guts to kick her husband out of the house(with whom she couldnt even keep eye contact with when she was a kid) became the strongest hyuga, most supportive wife and mother, and has given her kids the comforting childhood she never had as a kid.
She has one of the most beautiful stories in the show and if you think her personality is only Naruto-kun and big boobs, then im sorry that you cant appreciate such a heartwarming story.
And I agree, killing her would honestly make me feel more at ease than continue to see her suffer because of godawful misogynistic writers. But at least let her die in an epic fight. Please. PLEASEE. She got nerfed so bad, i feel a physical pain every time i think about it
Tumblr media
Okay what else. I think Ino got pretty good development. Another wasted potential in shippuden but she's doing good for herself in Boruto. I dont know what Temari is up to. They basically made her into another classic angry mom who beats up her husband for comedy trope. Haha very funny and original! Im not sure with her career, im not that invested in the anime.
Tenten??
oh G O D Tenten. The dirtiest of all. Her jokes about her screentime is so mean and i hate that its true ahsjhs. She was the only female character in OG who's goal wanted to be as strong as Tsunade but what did Kishi do to her?? Sidelined. Forgotten. Irrelevant. Like every damn female on the show :D
Konan shouldnt have died. I blame plot armor. I know in my heart that Konan wouldve kicked Obito's ass if it weren't for Kishi's boomer mindset.
Tsunade had so much hype when she was introduced but died down in the war arc. Madara wiped the floor with the kages. Holy shit. Not only that, but yipee! Naruto is there to save the day AGAIN!!!!
AND UGHHHH If the female characters were given proper treatment then maybe MAYBE all the endgame couples wouldve made fucking sense????¿¿¿
I think that ends my rant. Im not sure how the female characters in Boruto are handled. Except maybe Sarada (she's pretty well executed in the manga imo). But arguably they are sooo much better handled in Boruto than how the old gen girls were. And thats because Kishi isnt anywhere near the new gen female cast. I cant formulate a solid opinion with the other new gen female cast since im not entirely invested in the anime. Not ashamed to admit that I only watch it for the sunshine moments and for Hinata :DD

yo nadia <3333 i'm bored in my online classes and u reblogged the questions thingy at the right time lmao, so get ready: 1, 4, 5, 9, 10, 17, 23, 24, 28, 30!!!, 34, 38, 39, 40 (the intimacy of being understood) (imma stop here lol) (also i'm sorry u're not feeling well, ily and hope u'll feel better soon!! <33333)
ELE ILY. (and thank you, i’m stayin home today cause,,, yeah. i appreciate you sm.) you’re the literal best, i adore you.
1. How long ago did you start reading fanfiction? Writing fanfiction?
The first fanfiction i read was for The Lunar Chronicles when I was like 11?? and it was 100% on accident and it scarred me because it was a hardcore porn one with a period kink and i was like WHAT IS THIS??? OH MY GOD???? LMAOOOOO i didn’t pick it back up until i was 13-14 and really got into the Fairy Tail fandom. I still reread my favorites on ff.net cause i love them.
As for writing, I wrote a horrible, terrible x-men fanfiction when I was twelve. (my friend still brings it up and REFUSES to delete it so it still gets comments and views, that shit HAUNTS ME ELE.) then tried again for Fairy Tail, posted like two chapters before taking it down cause i wasn’t really feeling it. And then I posted The Intimacy Of Being Understood and here we are.
4. Link your three favorite fics right now.
OMGG okok
@murd3rm1ttens ‘s The Problem How Time Works IF YOU HAVENT READ THIS YOU GUYS NEED TO HOP ON IT ASAP. MITTEN’S WRITING SO SO SO SO GOOD. SAKURA AND INO ARE TOTAL BADASSES. KAKASHI IS A SIMPPPP. ITS SO FUCKING GOOD.
@mouseymightymarvellous ‘s We Were Screaming In Color (Only A Possibility) yes, yes I KNOW. i always point into mousey’s direction but i WILL always advocate that everyone reads her fics, they’re literally so beautiful???? i just happen to be rereading WWSIN rn
@safelycapricious ‘s Shaking Up And Breaking Down series. I found this like?? idfk but i’ve been raving about it ever since. ALSO CHECK OUT THEIR FICS IN GENERAL.
fuck i have more than three but also check out @ambivalens999 ‘s Masks
i do wanna make a fic rec thing where i just rav about my favs,,, might do that later or sum
5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something?
Omniscient third person. I don’t like it. Like I can understand that it can be a little hard to stay in one person’s perspective but, in my opinion, if you can, it shows how disciplined you are as a writer. Plus, i just get so confused when I go from A’s thoughts to suddenly what B is thinking about A.
When writers use ‘ ‘ instead of “ “. When writers put thoughts in ‘ ‘ instead of just italicizing them. It’s small things but like they just bother me sO MUCH. most of the time i can ignore it and try to enjoy but other times i just dip.
9. Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fandom/fanfiction community.
@espoir-et-reves !!!!! THEIR SHISAKU FICS ARE SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. And they have a warring states one going on THAT I AM SO OBSESSED WITH.
@writer168 idk if they’re really “underrated” but THEY HAVE SUCH GREAT FICS ON AO3. Like theres an AU with sakura, kiba, and shino that i reread constantly because it just. is. so. fucking. GOOD. and they posted a new one that i’m YELLING about.
@eggtoasties okay they only have 2 in the naruto fandom (one shisaku which is still ongoing) BUT THEIR WRITING STYLE IS SO NICE?? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I still go back and reread their shikasaku one cause UGH i can’t get enough. I love it.
10. What’s your favorite fandom, pairing, or character to read fic for?
Fandoms: Naruto, Soul Eater, The Old Guard, ATLA
Parings: KakaSaku/ShikaSaku/ShiSaku/MultiSaku, SoMa, Joe X Nicky, Zukka
Character: SAKURA. I will read anything with Sakura as the main character and her being a fuckin badass or becoming a badass. I love her.
17. How obsessively do you sit and stare at your fic after you’ve just posted and wait for feedback?
aha.. haha.. well. I check my email like three times an hour. its the first thing i check in the mornings too. I’m literally a whore for praise and literally eat up feedback like its going out of style. I also reread a lot of my stuff because i make so many mistakes and spelling errors, or the spacing is weird oR SOMETHING. plus, literally any and all comments make my day, i go back and reread them cause they just make me feel so tingly and warm like “wow. this person enjoyed the fic/my writing enough to tell me. thats HUGE!”
23. What’s your absolute favorite trope to write?
Angry, feral, bloodied, morally gray women. They aren’t bad guys, they’re probably the good guy, but that doesn’t mean they cant be fucking raging at the world with raw knuckles and blood on their teeth. I just love an angry woman who struggles with her emotions and just has so much inner conflict but that doesn’t take away from her character or badassery, it adds to it.
24. What’s a trope that you’d like to never hear about as long as you live, let alone write?
The fake dating or miscommunication troupe. LIKE GUYS JUST TALK. AND TELL EACH OTHER OMFG. the entire like obliviousness of “nah they dont like me” while the They holds their hand and kisses their cheek. MOFO WHAT. it makes me so impatient and like mad HAAHHAHA. its probably because i’m a pretty confrontational person so seeing stuff like that just “cmon bro, USE YO HEAD.”
28. How do you deal with writing pressure (ie: pressure to update, negative comments, deadlines, etc)?
I have yet to receive a negative comment! Which i was really surprised about tbh. As for deadlines or pressure to update, i just kind of do whatever. I do set goals, but i set them flexible enough that hey, if i can’t do it, that’s okay.
I have a lot of mini goals, like “i want to write this chapter and get it done this week” and then the large goal is “FINISH BY END OF MAY” so i have time.
Actually, now that I think on it, the entire pressure to update thing is probably why i’m waiting until I have all of OL&W written to post it weekly,, cause well. I wouldn’t wanna leave you guys waiting as I tried to write and work out the next chapters and stuff, you know?
30. Post a snippet from your current WIP without context - no more than 300 words.
AAAAAA YOU KNOW I LOVE THESE AHAHAHAH
Have you seen the way the dead dance, World Breaker? They roar, half mad and starving. Do you not wish, do you not hope to see them twist and bend and dance to your will?
Shikamaru snarls, looking behind his shoulders to where his Shadows lay. “Patience.” He spits. “Is of the essence, Things of Ancient. Know your place as the dark you are.”
34. How much of yourself and your life experiences do you put into your writing? What do you think your readers’ image of you is?
None of my experiences match up to anything I write tbh,,, probably the only thing that is me in my writing is maybe the emotional turmoil? I’m pretty emotionally and mentally mature because from a pretty young age i started forming my own opinions, started looking into the world around us and being like “dude what the fuck this is not what disney advertised”. Then i started talking (read: arguing and debating) with my dad about a lot of it. So, like emotions are kind of hard for me. Like i’m pretty good at controlling them or understanding them, but still. idk its hard to explain ig.
Like the weight of stress, the anger, the sadness. It’s kind of therapeutic to write. Cause i don’t know how to put those feelings to verbal words so writing them really helps.
As for my readers’ image? Probably like some kind of hunched over figure typing away in the dark with a maniacal grin on their face. I honestly don’t know AHHAHAHA but it is fun to think about. I think they’d see me as someone with potential but a lot of room to grow and someone who is imperfect but in a charming way LMAOOOO
38. What does your writing process look like? How chaotic is it on a scale of 1 (very tame) to 10 (you can’t handle this kind of chaos)?
I’m gonna be real honest. Its probably like a 2. I’m a bit of a control freak so I almost always go in chronological order, my writing is pretty linear. Unless, i get bored and jump to one of my fav parts. It's pretty much i sit down, i open the doc, read over my notes and just start writing.
It’s a little boring to explain AHAHAHA but once i get into the groove of things its really fucking great, I can like feel myself in the world, I can feel what i want the characters to, i love it. I catch myself mouthing the words as i type too, which i find hilarious.
39. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?
I rather like how raw my writing is sometimes. Which might sound really vain, but i do like the way i word things or describe things. I love juxtaposition and repetition, or making a good ole circle back to some minute detail that wouldn’t stand out until i repeat it at the end and you’re like “omg” AHAHAHAHA.
Like those little poetic snippets or certain wording i just sit back and go “damn thats kinda good nadia! go you!’ HAHAHA
40. How did you come up with the idea for The Intimacy Of Being Understood?
AAAAA this fic is like my first child, my pride and joy LMAO
so the idea initially came when i was reading some fic, idk if it was even naruto, but i was like “i don't like this, but i do like the rain symbolism.” And I knew i wanted to write something kind of slow paced, something a little sad and angsty, but would show KakaSaku slowly but surely falling in love.
Idk if you’ve noticed but a lot of my fics, the pairings don’t change each other dramatically. They accept each other as they are and then they grow with together. Like that acceptance is something i just love writing, its so subtle, it isn’t something you declare. Its simply “I am going to love you. I am going to love you despite your flaws and faults. I am going to love you unconditionally because I know you, I understand you, and there is nothing you could do to drive me away.”
The fic kind of wrote itself after that first scene. I kept going back to the rain, go being ghosts, and resurrection, and the small epiphanies one gets. I wanted to focus on each character’s growth with each other. They didn’t find light in life because of each other, but with each other. And i think that’s my favorite thing about that fic.
I wanted something raw and real and just something beautiful. I’m actually really proud of it tbh. Would i go back and rewrite/edit it? Oh of course! I’d do that with every single one of my fics, but i’m not gonna cause i think its in its rawest form right now. :))))
ask me shit plz

Icha Icha and Prejudice: The Book Club
Chapter IV: That Inner Voice
Eleven o'clock in the morning and Sakura was already upset. It was her first official vacation day, and it didn't start it as she had hoped. She had planned to sleep late, wake up in the most glorious and easy possible way with the felling of a long needy rested body. After all, she had to realise that Shizune and the Hokage were right, she needed to rest for a while, she was reaching the limits of her strength, and like this, she wasn't going to last long. So even if she was still a bit mad about the resolution, she finally came to terms with it, and it was ok.
What she has not been able to imagine was that after her furious outburst in the Hokage Tower, yesterday night, she would find herself immersed in a crazy game that Kakashi planned in less than a minute just to annoy her, disturb her, and of course, tease her. Dammed, he was smart. God, she hated that man.
'Yeah, tell yourself that till you believe it.'
Suddenly, she repeated Kakashi's recent message in her mind with a highly pitchy tone. It was not her sensei's voice, though.
'Hello there, Sakura.'
So she was back. After years of silence, her bitchy inner Sakura's voice came back to torment her mind and life. She turned on the bed, sinking her head in the pillow ready to grumble, and silent a scream of fury trying to escape from her frustrating throat. Perfect timing for the remarkable comeback. Perfect timing.
After her teen years, Sakura, under the Godaime tutelage, decided that inner Sakura was no longer necessary. She was pretty capable of analysing all the facts in front of her as well as her feelings, thoughts and attitudes, she no longer needed her alter ego to push her to act in this or that way, nor to show her the right path when she was lost. Generally, the correct direction of the inner Sakura was always the wrong one, but that she had only been able to see it after her failed attempt of relationship with Sasuke or any other man in the village.
The inner Sakura was impulsive, arrogant, prejudiced, and without a doubt much more daring than Sakura herself, and that did not suit her.
So, one morning, and just like that, the work, stress and the effort to make her inner voice disappeared went straight to the trash been, cause she was loudly back.
'Don't tell me that you didn't miss me.' the voice in her head said almost sad.
"No, I didn't. Not even a tiny bit." Great, now Sakura was talking to herself out loud.
'You are harsh with both of us, Sakura'
"No, I'm not. I worked hard for you to shut up, so, please..." Sakura pleaded.
'And yet, here I am.'
"What do you want?"
'The question is, what Do You want' annoying or not, inner Sakura's question was accurate and sharp. What was what she wanted?
"Arghh... fine! If you are here to stay, I hope, at least, for you to be useful."
'I'm all yours. Now get up, girl, we have things to do.'
Sakura finally accepted that the voice was back and resolved to went through everything with her in her mind. She didn't have much of an option, cause apparently, inner Sakura was not going to disappear any time soon. It was better to have a good relationship with her mind at this moment. Three weeks off was too much to think on her own. Maybe she had called her back. Perhaps it was a coping mechanism to go through her own personal hell with Icha Icha. Inner Sakura could be much more helpful with her sharp, bold thoughts. She was a natural teaser and a skilful trickster at times. She was the not so innocent part of her mind that incited thoughts that Sakura preferred to suppress. The inner Sakura's silence was what had allowed her not to have sex in all this time, putting all her libido in her work, making her see each man who passed by the hospital as an object of study and not as a possible good laid. Except maybe for Kakashi.
Hatake Kakashi, the Rokudaime, her Lord Sixth, her eternal sensei. The very same, that when he got sick or came back injured from a mission, he just wanted to be cared for by her. The one used to listen to her ramblings every day about new ideas, supporting all her projects. The one that one way or another was always by her side. Kakashi, the man with silver hair who aroused the entire village's curiosity and sighs even though no one, not even her, knew what was under the mask. The same man who could be severe enough to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders, but who also read Icha Icha in public and even dared to flirt with her without shame or openness.
'You're so into him.' Inner Sakura spoke again suppressing a laugh.
"Oh please, It's not like that." Sakura dismissed her.
'How long are you going to live in denial, Sakura?'
"What do you mean?"
'Can't you see it for your own?'
"No..."
'Thank god I'm here then.'
Sakura stopped the conversation with her inner self because she really needed a cup o coffee first. She had spent the first hours of her morning texting with Kakashi and talking to herself, and it was already exhausting. How was she supposed to survive both of them? Passing by her living room to the kitchen, Sakura directed her view to the orange book on the table. Sooner or later, she would have to start reading. But first thing first: Breakfast.
After almost half an hour, Sakura finally was ready to face her destiny and her thoughts.
'Are you ready?' Inner Sakura was jumping all over her mind like a child in a kermesse.
"I guess..." Sakura answered nervously sitting in her couch, crouching her legs and taking the book in her hands.
'Imagine the things he had done with that book' Her mind was torturous libidinous.
"Let's just don't think about it, ok?"
'Oh, come on, don't act as if you were a virgin Sakura... Just imagine, the shower, the couch, the bed...'
"Please, don't be grossed" Sakura answered blushing deeply. Something burning was forming inside of her, and she was sure it wasn't just her chakra.
'You slut, you have already thought about that. You are so hot with him.' Inner Sakura was celebrating.
"Shut up."
Chapter I: The sunset. The light was slowly extinguishing on the cornfields making the shadows that were projected throughout the space even more orange. The summer rain's soft scent had left a persistent sweet aroma mixed with the lavenders that were only a few meters from where she was standing. The heat and humidity created a soft layer of sweat on her body, mixing her own body scent with that of her surroundings. She knew that she must have run away as soon as she saw him arriving at the village. Instead, she only could make it to the cornfield, a familiar place for both of them.
So cliche, Sakura thought with a grin on her face. She was sure that Kakashi was having it way harder than her. Though she had to recognise that even if Jiraiya didn't have Jane Austen's prose, it wasn't that bad. So far, it was an easy, perfectly innocent reading.
'Really Sakura? is that what you are thinking? A neat prose?' Inner Sakura jumped in her mind again a bit upset because up to now Sakura wasn't able to find nothing too thrilling in the first pages. Sakura didn't pay her any attention and kept reading, she was starting to relax about this whole thing of Kakashi's little obsession. It wasn't that bad.
He followed her without hesitation. He knew he would find her staring at the horizon, waiting for the night breeze to cool her feverish skin. She had always liked to feel the summer wind run across her ivory skin, bristling the hair on her arms, making her shiver. Her tousled hair floating freely, like her thoughts. He knew he would find her there, and right there, he would claim her just for himself.
Sakura sighed, the things were already starting to heat up but in a really smooth and slow path. The Sannin knew how to build tension and, what she heard Ino said once, a good slow-burn romance scenario. Inner Sakura was in silence, and she was immensely enjoying the reading. Actually, she was starting to think that she could spend the entire day at home reading. After all, it wasn't that hard.
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
Sakura looked for her cellphone. Inner Sakura was already starting to complain about the interruption, but she suddenly stopped.
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
18:30 H.Kakashi: Yo!
18:30 H.Kakashi: What are you doing, Sakura?
Sakura didn't know if to answer and play difficult, Inner Sakura was highly excited about those short, silly messages. Of course, Sakura answered, she had to follow the inner lead.
18:32: Hello, Sensei
18:32: Reading, you?
Sakura didn't come back to the book. She just fixed her stare in the device in her hand.
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
18:35: H.Kakashi: And?
Kakashi wasn't going to answer her, she was sure. She would have to give him something first. She knew her sensei like the palm of her hand.
18:36: It's ok so far
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
18:36 H.Kakashi: What?
18:36 H.Kakashi: Just ok?
18:37 H.Kakashi: Do you even know how to read, Sakura?
Sakura burst to laugh out loud in her home alone. He was such a spoiled child.
18:40: Yes Hokage Sama, it's ok, I haven't read much yet.
18:40: What about you? Working? Reading?
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
18:41 H.Kakashi: Actually, both.
18:41: And?
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
18:42 H.Kakashi: Work, awful, reading, quite interesting.
18:42 H.Kakashi: Tell me, Sakura, is it possible?
Sakura asked herself what was he talking about, Inner Sakura, invited to re questioned him.
18:45: What?
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
18:46 H.Kakashi: To have five daughters and take care of all of them, in a simple civilian life, plus a wife and listen to them all the time talking without a stop
Sakura laughed again.
18:47: So... You are feeling bad for the poor Mr Benett, right?
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
18:47 H.Kakashi: Who wouldn't...
18:48 H. Kakashi: Listen Sakura...
And for a moment he didn't say anything more.
18:55: What now?
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
18:55 H.Kakashi: Would you like to have dinner? Unless you already have plans. We don't need to talk about the books, in fact, we don't have to talk at all
Sakura stood frozen. What was wrong with him. Even if it was just a simple text, she could read need in his words.
'Don't you dare to say no' Inner Sakura adverted, forming a fist with her imaginary hand.
19:00: Rough day?
Bzzzzzt Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
19:00 H. Kakashi: You can't imagine.
Sakura smiled.
19:01: Then you'll have to tell me.

Hard to Get Chapter 4 (Sasuke Uchiha x reader)
A/n: make sure you’re drinking water, kids (;
Prompt: none
Pairing: Sasuke Uchiha x reader
Words: 658
Warnings: none
Masterlist / previous part / next part
“Glad to see you didn’t keep me waiting this time,” Sasuke scoffed as soon as you walked over to his table in the library. He had an uncanny ability to know exactly when you came into the same room without even having to look up, and it was a bit unsettling if you were being honest.
“Sorry about this morning,” you said, pulling out the chair across from him and setting your backpack down. “Sakura, Ino and I have a tradition of meeting up before school, so--”
“I know,” he said, looking up for the first time to give you a small smile. You were taken aback. What does he mean, ‘I know?’ “I’ve been keeping an eye on you for a while.” You flushed, your heart beginning to pound in your chest.
“Well that’s not totally creepy or anything,” you mumbled, pulling out your books. Sasuke laughed lightly.
“I just find you intriguing,” he said quietly, and you suddenly became aware of the fact that you were in an otherwise entirely quiet library and that your heart was pounding so loud you could barely hear his voice. What is wrong with me? “You’re the only girl in class who doesn’t seem to be obsessed with me, and I’ve been trying to figure out why.” His dark eyes studied you, and you looked away from his gaze, opening your book to the page you had marked.
“I just don’t think you’re that great, is all,” you said quietly, almost unable to make the words leave your mouth. I must be dehydrated or something, that’s why I feel so funny. You pulled out your water bottle and took a long sip.
“Really,” Sasuke said, sounding almost hurt. You looked back up at him. He doesn’t seem as confident as before. Shit, I must have hurt his feelings or something.
“I mean, you’re not terrible or anything,” you scrambled to find the right words to cheer him up without inflating that damned ego of his even more. “I just...don’t understand why the other girls are so obsessed with you, ya know? You’re just another human, not some perfect god or anything.”
Sasuke chuckled. “You know, I really appreciate that, y/n.” You looked up at him, furrowing your brow, but he was staring out the window, eyes not seeming to focus on anything particular. “I feel like everyone else thinks I’m perfect, and it’s really stressful, if I’m being honest. I don’t really have any friends because all the girls are too smitten to see the real me and all the guys are jealous and just waiting for me to fail.”
You found yourself reaching across the library table and placing your hand on top of his. His hand was pleasantly warm, soft yet strong from hours of hard studying and from his constant strength training as the star of the school soccer team. He turned to look at you once more, and you smiled warmly, meeting his surprised eyes. “I’m your friend, Sasuke.”
He chuckled genially, his eyes sparkling with the compliment. “I thought you hated me,” he said quietly, and you swore you saw his cheeks turn the slightest bit red. You shook your head.
“I mean, you still kind of drive me nuts, but I understand you a bit better now, so I guess I’ll let it slide.” He smiled brightly, looking down at your hands, and you realized you had never removed your hand from atop his. He turned his hand over, grasping yours gently.
“It’s nice to have a friend,” he said. Butterflies danced in your stomach, and your face warmed. Why am I so flustered? I guess I need to start drinking more water. You smiled once more, squeezing his hand.
“Glad to be of service,” you said, listening to the pounding beat of your heart as you looked into the boy’s warm face. Friends. We’re friends now. Is that what I wanted?

1! ♡    I’m a sonographer & radiographer. Do not fear the photons. B)
2! ♡  I can and have slept for over 10+ hours a day (on weekends). I used to sleep for 18 hours a day when I was very young and had no school. I have always loved sleeping apparently. B)
3! ♡   I have a terrible memory. I often forget things people tell me and I keep asking over and over. It’s not that I am not listening -I even comprehend and reply to it. But I just plain forget! D: It’s really bad because I’m so bad with names too. If you ever watch me struggling in conversation, it’s because I’m trying to remember your name. I make a habit of actually very creepily going ‘Yes (name)! Good morning (name)!’ like a weird anime character, only because if I keep repeating the name, will it stick in my mind. I can remember relevant little details like your dog’s name or how you feel about a certain something- but ask me what I even did last week, I do not have a clue. It’s good in some aspects, I never remember arguments. But it’s terrible for my teeny weeny social life ^^;;; That is why I love texting - I can use the search function or I can see previous posts and reply accordingly.
———  experience! ♡
PLATFORMS USED! ♡   I think I actually started rping on neopets! But now, I only use tumblr/discord rp. As mentioned above, I don’t have a great memory - so I just stick to one character. ^^;
———  muse  preference! ♡
GENDER! ♡   Whatever I am obsessed with at the time. I love Hiyori right now and she’s definitely dominated my mind the past year or so!
LEAST FAVOURITE FACE(S)! ♡ For a muse?? I think... I really did not enjoy using icons for Ino (who I used to rp). She’s meant to be a very pretty girl but her official manga icons... just did not do her justice- especially when I used to rp her against say one piece/bleach females LMAO! Good thing she had a staggering amount of confidence.
MULTI OR SINGLE! ♡  I used to love rping on my multi-muse, but there is always a muse which has a louder voice than most and for me recently- it was Hiyori. And I actually love the fact that Hiyori has development and her storyline/timelne affects others around her. In a multimuse/multiverse, it’s a very difficult thing to portray. I love the continuity I get with Hiyori alone. >w<
FLUFF / ANGST / SMUT! ♡
FLUFF :  I am not very good at writing cutesie things. I enjoy writing fun banter and dialogue, so I wonder if it’s the same? Either way, I do like Hiyori having some warmth in her life and I am here for the whole vizard family to have their HAPPY ENDING!
ANGST :  Okay, I love exploring themes that really make my character who they are. What are their fears and worries? If you have something to lose- and you end up losing it- how will they react? How does my character behave after they have done something wrong? Are they forgiving? How do they ask for forgiveness? I love exploring things like that. I like the themes of forgiveness and apologies... because I believe we all make mistakes as humans and I think it’s important to write out things where the characters we love make mistakes, but they do not become unloveable as a result. So I like to carry that with me in my writing. That people are worthy of extra chances. They will improve with patience and kindness. And also... to write about pain is cathartic. Even if I have never suffered like Hiyori or the vizard, it is good to relieve the suffering of a hard day. To make someone express it. I’m still learning how to write these themes well. ^^;;
SMUT : Too shy/embarrassed to write it on here. I think I explore a little more when I’m writing with someone I’m very comfortable with. Aaaand it takes a while for me to become confident with my writing too. I also think it’s because Hiyori is so private, it makes sense to have that aspect of her life be private until she’s comfortable (both mun and muse ^^;;;)
PLOT / MEMES! ♡  I am slow but I love plotting and I love memes- they always get me thinking. ^^

Modern Day Romance
Chapter 5
The date continues! Thinking about doing a small time jump to get their relationship moving! Let me know what you think! Don’t own Naruto
Ch 1 / Ch 2 / Ch 3 / Ch 4 /
The botanical garden was more magical than Sakura could have ever imagined.  Flowers bloomed all over and so many scents mixed in the space, it was a bit overpowering, but they got used to it as they moved through.  Everything was sculpted into different abstract shapes.  Sakura had never seen so many flowers at once.  They walked around in silence for a bit getting lost in observing the flowers.
Soon they found a different type of arrangement of cacti off to the side.  Gaara seemed to have noticed them and headed right over to them but still made sure that Sakura was with him.  His eyes scanned all the different potted plants in front of them, there actually was excitement in his eyes.  Sakura thought he looked like a kid in a candy shop.  She remembered that Gaara had some cacti in one of his pictures on the dating app.
“You really like them right?” Sakura finally asked.  Gaara slowly turned his eyes towards her and she smiled gently.  He started to blush a bit and Sakura found that so cute.
“Sorry, yeah, I guess you could say I’m obsessed with them.  I got into gardening and desert plants when I was in school,” Gaara said as he put his hands in his pockets, “It was part of my rehabilitation while I was in high school.”
He turned back towards the plants, but Sakura knew he was waiting to see her reaction.  She could ask a million questions but decided against it.  It would be so rude of Sakura to question his past when this was the first day, and she felt that she would come off as judgemental towards him and that’s the last thing she felt.  But she risked asking one question.
“Are you healthy now since then?” she asked while turning to look at the plants like Gaara.  He took a few minutes to answer.
“I had a messed up past, but with the help of that school and my siblings, I can say that I am not the same person I was back then and have no desire to be how I was.  So yes, for years I’ve been healthy and now I help people who were like me,” Gaara said with clear pride in his voice.  Sakura slid closer to him so that their arms were touching.
“You being healthy is all that matters,” she said looking up into his eyes, “So mister cactus expert, tell me about that one.” Sakura pointed at a small potted cactus that had a small orange flower on top of it, but the flower hadn’t bloomed yet.  Gaara followed her finger to see which cactus she wanted to know about.  He chuckled when he looked at it.
“That’s a cactus and that’s its stomata.  It doesn’t bloom during the day to conserve water.  Normally plants open their flowers during the day for the process of photosynthesis, but they open during the night to conserve water.”
“Oh, well that’s less exciting than I thought,” Sakura half grumbled to herself, “Tell me more!”
Gaara seemed taken aback by her general interest in the plants around them.  The rest of the time Gaara led them around and talked about all the pants that he knew.  He was so invested in what he was talking about that he didn’t notice when Sakura slipped her arm through his and they walked around the rest of the gardens just like that.  Sakura was very much enjoying hearing Gaara talk about what he was clearly passionate about.  For thinking they would be awkward the majority of the date, all their stress melted off of them.
Gaara was in the middle of discussing a particularly rare desert flower to Sakura when his phone started ringing.  Sighing Gaara went to pull his cellphone out.  Sakura wanting to give him some privacy, she slipped out his arm, but before she could get too far he reached out his hand to take hers to keep her close.  He had turned away to answer the call, but Sakura could see that the back of his neck was bright pink.  She laughed to herself about this but turned in the opposite direction to give him a little bit of privacy.  He finally hung up the phone and gave a light squeeze to her hand to tell her that he was done.
“I guess we lost track of time,” he said and showed Sakura the time of 5:15 pm on his phone.  They had been walking and talking for about three hours and it felt like nothing to either of them.
“This may seem weird and feel free to say no, but my sister is a designer and has a fashion show tonight, and she just called to remind me.  Would you be interested to go?  I’m not sure if you’re busy or not-” but Sakura stopped him by squeezing his hand and laughed when she noticed that he was rubbing the back of his head similarly as how she did herself when she was embarrassed.
“Gaara I’d love to go with you.  I don’t want this date to end yet.”  The look of relief in his eyes was so visible.  It was nice to see how Sakura wasn’t the only one who was enjoying her time and that he was clearly into her too.
X
Gaara had failed to mention exactly who his sister was.  When he offered to drive them so Sakura could drop off her car at home, he filled her in on a few more facts about his older siblings and what they do for a living.  Temari being the center of attention tonight it did not take her long to figure out that the brand that his sister designed for is Tee.  An extremely high-end fashion line that was the closest thing to couture that was available to the common people.  Ino and Sakura had always admired Tee’s designs and wished they had a reason to wear these beautiful clothes.
“You know I’m freaking out on the inside right?”
“I think you’ll be fine.”
Now that Ino had moved away to the city she had every reason to wear these clothes.  Sakura always browsed online and had the fashion magazine Shukaku sent to her home, she loved these clothes so much.  (Gaara made no comment that this particular magazine was almost run by him.)
Gaara pulled his sleek black car (a company car) up to the valet of the abandoned building.  He explained that Temari got a kick of making the other couture designers squirm and picked the creepiest places to showcase a new line of clothes.  Gaara nodded to the valet who seemed to recognize him as they made their way inside.  He reassured Sakura that they were perfectly dressed in their casual clothes, “No one is going to be looking at us anyway.”
The inside of the building was completely redone in order to house this fashion show.  It looked exactly as Sakura had seen on TV;  a long white catwalk that went into the audience, large black curtains on the sides to hide the upcoming models.  On each curtain were large TV’s showing Temari’s previous works.  These were photos from different photo-shoots that Sakura could remember seeing online and in her fashion magazines.  As Gaara lead her to their seats on the side, a familiar face popped up on the screen.
There Gaara was twenty feet up in the air posing in Temari’s clothes.  It was a fitted three-piece suit in a blood-red color that matched perfectly with his hair, making his teal eyes pop.  Sakura’s breath caught in her throat at the sight of him.  She had never seen this photo anywhere before and she would remember.  The look in his eyes was mesmerizing, they were hard but drew you in any way that you couldn’t look away.  Gaara finally looked up because Sakura had become so quiet.
“Oh, she didn’t! I specifically told her never to use these pictures,” Gaara grumbled mostly to himself as he pulled out of his phone, probably to tell off his sister.  Sakura noticed that he was scowling and blushing at the same time.
“I didn’t know you modeled Gaara,” Sakura said as she tried to focus on a spot on the floor and not keep drooling over the screen.
“Technically I’m not, but my siblings love to drag me into their business.  Temari knows she can push me around and I won’t crack like the models do when she yells at them for making her clothes look bad.  And my brother hates working with the models too.”
“You’re very good at it.  But I do prefer you as you are now,” Sakura said not being able to look at him.  Gaara seemed to relax next to her and Sakura peeked a glance at him.  There was a gentle smile on his face as he was avoiding her gaze as well.  They sat there like two blushing fools as the room around them started filling up.  Sakura finally relaxed enough that she got comfortable in her seat to sit closer to Gaara.
X
As she took in the room she failed to notice a man in his 30’s sit next to her.  He was not much to look at, but his ego oozed out of him.  Checking Sakura out, he was about to strike up a conversation with the young woman, but a long toned arm wrapped around her shoulders.  When Sakura leaned into Gaara’s touch she did not notice the battle that was going above her head.  Gaara stared daggers into the man’s eyes.  The man went pale and decided to change his seat before the show started.  He did not want to cross a man with eyes like that.

Original Ch1 for Done with Love
@rebuildingkonohaonceagain requested this deleted chapter of done with love - so here it is! Read if you’d like!
Summary: Sakura saves a patient important to Shikamaru, then She and Shikamaru discuss how to get Sasuke back on her own.
I like this take, because it makes fun of Kishi’s Sakura a bit through Shika’s perspective and shows how I’d make her actually a good character instead of a love obsessed bimbo - hence the title “Done with Love’
Chapter 1 – Not Mine
Present Day
Sakura
REDACTED FIRST SCENE BUT SHE IS CAPTURED
10 months, 10 days ago
5:30 PM
Sakura
At some level, I've always felt my life was not mine.
As a child, my life had been lived for my parents, who loved me so fiercely. I'd been a miracle, they said. My mother never said so, but she had always loved kids and wanted several of her own. She'd babysit her friends' children and look at baby clothes just for fun. She volunteered at the children's wing of the hospital too. Only later would I learn my mother was afflicted with a disease rendering her infertile according to the doctors. I was a statistical anomaly and my mother's baby themed extra-curriculars were trying to fill a void that even I couldn't.
As a slightly older child, I'd lived for the sisterhood of Ino. She stood up to bullies for me and told me I was pretty. She was everything I needed and wasn't. Brave, caring, and so effervescent. If anyone truly lived for themselves, it was Ino, and I so desperately wanted to be like her.
Then, in the golden years of the academy, I met Sasuke and unwittingly gave my life to 'love'. More accurately to an unhealthy infatuation with Sasuke. What girl my age hadn't? All it cost was my relationship with my best friend, Ino, and any chance I had to be taken seriously as a ninja. Looking back, what a rip off. Girls do the stupidest things in the name of love. Hear a rumor Sasuke likes long hair? Grow your hair long even though it makes taijutsu practice a nightmare. Hear Sasuke likes delicate hands? Well, better do half hour-long skin treatments in the evening and skip out on kunai target practice whenever possible.
It wasn't until the Chunnin exams that I really realized how much I'd screwed myself. Even then, I'd doubled down on 'loving' Sasuke. When he left us, I clung to my love for him and let it motivate my life. I'd get stronger and work with a legendary Sannin myself and someday, I'd bring him home. He'd see how devoted I was throughout it all and he'd respect me for that until eventually that grew into love. We'd start a family and be together forever.
So misguided, right?
As I sit here in my office at the hospital, trying to fill out my charts from my shift, I can't help but chuckle at my own naivety. That was a dream.
And I am finally awake.
I dip my hand in to my lab coat, tracing the note there. The one I found when I 'woke up'. When I broke into Sasuke's childhood home, mourned him, and left him there with the rest of those broken dreams.
I was done with love. I was done with it running my life and I was ready to live for what I wanted. And what I wanted was my family back – my team 7 home. That meant Naruto no longer reckless and desperate for Sasuke, and for his only to focus to be on becoming Hokage. For Kakashi, to stop sulking around the village, hung up on another failure of a student.
I want to stop Sasuke from hurting my precious people. Mine not his.
But first, I want to go home, eat some takeout, and have a bubble bath because it's been a long day. Only 3 charts stand in my way.
When I finish them, I stretch my hands over my head, trying to straighten the hunch in my back from slaving over paperwork. Gathering the files, I make my way to the hallway.
"Thanks for your help today, Kanna," I hear the new girl, Ami, say to the plump, middle age nurse as they make their way toward me.
"Of course, dear. We'll done." She says with a motherly smile. Kanna notices me and gives a wave. "Ah, Sakura. Headed out for the day?"
I nod. "Sure am. I've got a hot date with some fried rice." I say smiling.
Ami looks disappointed, "Careful now. If you keep dating fried food, you'll end up like me some day." She gestures to her round figure and the comment makes me feel uncomfortable.
"If I end up being half the woman you are, I'd be quite happy with that," I say encouragingly.
"That's very flattering, dear," Kanna replies looking not the least bit flattered. "But take it from me, men taste much better than fried food. Fewer calories too."
Kanna's following wink has Ami and me turning scarlet.
"I – uh," I stutter not quite knowing what to say to that. "I'm not sure I have time for a relationship right now."
"Come now," she dismisses my excuse, "There's more to life than working at the hospital. Plus, it doesn't have to be anything serious! Women have certain needs too, you know."
Ami looks ready to faint. I decide to not so subtly change the subject.
"So, Ami, good first day then?" I say sweetly. Ami nods, smile coming back to her face.
"Yes, its been wonderful. Thank you for asking. Everyone has been really kind and helpful." She said gratefully, "Plus, it's been such a slow day-,"
"No, Ami!" Kanna interjects, "Look what you've done. You've jinxed us all!"
Ami looks surprised again and looks between me and Kanna looking for a clue to what she said wrong.
"Jinxed us?" She squeaks.
"If you learn nothing else today, remember this: never ever say 'its been a slow day'. That's how you get slammed with new intakes and stuck here until 2 am." Kanna scolds back.
"Oh, you don't really believe that, right?" Ami tries to laugh off the mistake. She throws a pleading look to me, like I'll be more reasonable. "That's just an old wives' tale."
I just shrug and say, "I'm sorry, but she's right. Its been scientifically proven. I even had my intern last year do a study and the findings were actually-,"
I was cut off by the slam of doors flying open at the end of the hall. Three nurses pushed a stretcher toward us, voices breaking the quiet.
"Here, take these to the record room," I say shoving my charts into Ami's arms. She looks shocked white. "Kanna, you're with me."
"Yes, ma'am." She says, shooting a mild glare at Ami before following me to commotion.
As I arrive, recognize that woman on the stretcher immediately and suppress the emotional response that spikes up. It's Kurenai-sensei.
I note one nurse is holding hemostatic gauze to her chest while another tries to attach a blood-pressure cuff. The third is driving the stretcher, reporting her heartrate states from the EKG. I turn to him and say, "What are we dealing with here?"
"Haruno-san," He looks relieved, "Puncture wound to the chest, possible internal bleeding in the abdomen. Heart rate is dropping, but doesn't appear to be damaged from the puncture wound."
"Poison?" I ask.
"No, it was a training exercise." He answers. Good, that makes things easier.
"Head to surgical room 5. Kanna, take the puncture wound. Stop the bleeding," I announce and turn to the nurse struggling with the BP cuff, "Get me those BP stats, ASAP."
I don't wait for her confirmation and order administration of an anti-coagulant before pressing a charka gloved hand onto Kurenai's abdomen. It's not good.
There's massive internal hemorrhaging crushing her insides. It thrums with each pump of her heart. Something else as is thrumming as well. A flutter like a hummingbird's wings smothered underneath the blanket of blood.
"Stop the coagulant!" I cry, eyes flying open, "She's pregnant."

Sakura
10:30 pm
While it's not quite 2 am when we finish, the surgery takes me well past the end of my shift. We got Kurenai-sensei stabilized with no harm to her child, but it wasn't easy. I'm dead on my feet, as is the rest of my staff.
I address Kanna as we disrobe out of our PPE, "Let's keep her 3 days for observation. I want to make sure the baby is alright. She appears stable now, but sometimes there's delayed trauma that can terminate."
Kanna nods, "I'll tell the attending right away."
I smile weakly, "Thanks Kanna."
"Now go home! You're late for your date." She says winking. I laugh.
"See, isn't it lucky I don't have some poor guy waiting on me? This is why I don't date." I joke.
This time her smile is full of pity and I regret making the joke at all.
"Haruno-san?" An aid named Daichi calls into the surgical room, head swiveling until he finds me by the sinks. I wave him over.
"There's a young man pacing in the waiting room. Shikamaru Nara, I think. He came in with the patient." He says. Its customary for the attending physician to give an update once patents have stabilized, but as he looks me up and down taking in the exhausted expression on my face and my hunched shoulders, he asks, "Should I send a nurse for an update?"
If she hadn't know Shikamaru personally, she would have readily agreed, but this kind of news was better coming from a friend.
"Not necessary, Daichi," I answer, "Shikamaru's a friend. I'll see to him as soon as I'm finished here."
He nods and leaves.
Kanna elbows me in the side, "Looks like you might have a date after all."
I roll my eyes at her yell, "Go home, Kanna!" over my shoulder as I leave to the waiting room.
When I arrive, Shikamaru is easy to spot. As Daichi said, he's pacing back and forth I the rear of the waiting room, his spiky ponytail bobbing with each turn. I don't think I've ever seen him so worked up.
I call to him as I approach, and it startles him out of his state of worry.
"Sakura!" he says, "Is Kurenai alright? Tell me everything's alright."
I give him my best reassuring smile and say, "Yes, she's stable Shikamaru. It was a tough surgery, but she's a fighter."
People love to hear that their loved ones are 'fighters' I've noticed. It gives them some feeling of control over something that is so often uncontrollable. Shikamaru was no different as he relaxed slightly.
"And the baby?" He asks. This surprises me. How did Shikamaru know this before I did? I may socially live under a rock here at the hospital, but if news like that was public knowledge, then Ino would have called me right away to gossip. Then I remembered Kurenai's chart. The emergency contact listed as Asuma Sarutobi, crossed out with Shikamaru's name and number listed below. Asuma had entrusted Kurenai and her child with Shikamaru, it seemed.
"The baby is also stable," I say and his shoulders finally go slack as he collapses into one of the plastic chairs lining the walls. I slide into the one next to him and continue, "We need to keep her here under observation for a few days. Sometimes there is a delayed response to acute trauma and the child's condition turns for the worse. We're closely monitoring her and the baby to make sure this doesn't happen."
Shikamaru nods, and it seems he's only half listening to my words.
"Can I see her?" He asks, but I shake my head.
"No visitors until morning. I'm sorry, but she needs to rest right now." I say. He just drops his head in his hands and takes a deep breath.
"I really screwed up, Sakura." He whispers. I place a hand on his arm.
"Don't beat yourself up. Everything's fine. Kurenai's fine." I try to reassure him.
He looks up at me, eyes holding a strange reverence I've never seen from him.
"I owe you one, Sakura." He says. Now that she had heard before. She almost says 'its nothing', but it isn't nothing.
"I'll send you this bill later, then, okay?" I say with another soft smile.
"I'm serious," He says, upset by my joking tone. "A life debt. I owe you a life debt."
Coming from someone like Shikamaru, I know he's serious, but that weight behind his words and the look on his face have me shifting uncomfortably in my seat. This is just my job, and I don't keep tallies for wins, loses or debts. The scales never quite even out when I do.
"How about we just start with a drink?" I say lightly. "I think we both could use one."
Shikamaru
10:45 PM
I've never really enjoyed the company of Sakura Haruno. She'd always been lumped into the under-achieving, Sasuke loving fan club that was too much of a headache to pay attention to. Instead, he was force fed all his updates about her from Ino. There was constantly something to be up in arms about but never anything of real importance. Mostly he equated her presents to a fruit fly buzzing around in his periphery. Annoying, but easy to ignore.
He remembered the first time he was impressed with a Sakura related update. After Sasuke left, she had landed an apprentice with the legendary Tsunade herself. Other than that, he hadn't really given her a second thought.
But when he heard her call his name in the waiting room, all the little bits of information jealously relayed through Ino added up to one single emotion – relief. Sakura had made something of herself and Shikamaru didn't know what he would have done had she not been there.
As they entered a late-night food stall with excellent Takoyaki and Sake, he was once again reminded of how little he really knew about Sakura. The old Sakura would have chattered away, filling any silence she could with inconsequential self-centered information which would eventually lead back to Sasuke. But this Sakura wasn't like that at all.
She had been mostly quiet during the walk over, beginning with some additional facts about Kurenai's condition which he only half understood. Then sensing his disengagement with the subject, she asked if he a favorite food stands he like to visit.
Which led them here.
The sake comes first, and I drain one saucer, then two. It steadies my nerves just as he hoped. I feel her eyes on me, but Sakura doesn't comment. Instead, I see her lift her saucer in a 'cheers' motion before draining it as I had. She smiles until her stomach grumbles loudly and she her face goes red.
"Sorry – I haven't eaten since lunch!" She explains. "My shift was supposed to be over at 6:00 and I was going to grab dinner but then, um, you know." I nod sparing her.
"You forget Chouji's my best friend. I'm used to hearing that sounds every hour on the hour."
"I'm not sure being compared to Chouji really makes me feel any better." She says carefully, with a laugh.
"Well, I'd compare you to Ino, but I'd probably get punched for it later." I say and she laughs again.
Our Takoyaki comes, just as I feel myself loosening up a little. It feels like I'm talking to a stranger and I've never been good at small talk. It doesn't seem to matter though, because Sakura is fully fixated on the food in front of her, popping the first Takoyaki in her mouth with a groan.
"This is either the best Takoyaki in the village, or I'm way more famished than I thought" She says.
"Hunger is the best seasoning," I say lamely. She doesn't make fun of me like I expect though.
"Is that another Chouji thing?" She asks, "He might be far wiser than we ever believed."
I chuckle a bit at that. She's kind of funny, and the light-heartedness is exactly what I need right now.
"Please never tell him that. I would totally go to his head and I don't need any more self-confidence on my team." I say.
"Right, I think Ino has enough for all three of you," She says, understanding my reference right away.
I grunt in agreement and take a bite.
She waits until she halfway through her plate before saying, "So, what have you been up to? I haven't seen you in forever."
"Mostly doing paperwork for the Hokage. It appears I'm her lap dog now." I say more sarcastically than bitter. It occurs to me that being the Hokage's apprentice, that's probably something Sakura already knew. Just like she also knows I'm off field work for the next month for bereavement after Asuma's passing.
"I know how that feels," Sakura commiserates. "What does she have you working on?"
This Sakura must also already know but I answer anyway, "Mostly doing analysis on upcoming Chunin. I go over their strengths and weakness, then make recommendations on training routines to help round them out. I also suggest team assignments for mission requests, but I think this is mostly an exercise in mentoring the younger generation."
She makes a thoughtful sound then says, "That doesn't sound like something you'd be very into."
I raise an eyebrow at her and she adds, "Not saying you wouldn't be great at it! Just seems like you wouldn't be into mentoring is all."
I ponder this for a moment and realize Sakura is probably dealing with the same challenges I am, trying to reconcile the lazy, reclusive boy with the person Shikamaru is now.
"I actually like it better than I thought I would." I explain, "Asuma-sensei actually taught me that the next generation is what's worth protecting and shaping them is our duty as Jonin."
"Well, I think he'd be proud of what you're doing her Shikamaru." She says encouragingly. I fiddle with the empty cup in my hand and blanch at the sappiness of it. Somethings haven't changed, I guess.
"What about you?" I change the subject, "how is the hospital?"
I expect her to smile and gush about how great it is working for the Hokage and saving lives, but she doesn't.
"Its…Its good." She finally says. "Its rewarding, but I miss field work and going out with a team, you know? Its just a little lonely training by myself."
"That's right, Naruto's back out with Jiraiya." I suddenly feel a little like an ass for talking so much about my team.
"Yeah, but don't get me wrong, I'm really happy for him." She says, "Its such a great opportunity and he needs to do it."
I nod.
"I guess what I'm trying to say is I wish I got out of the hospital more. I get a lot of flak from the older nurses for not having a social life or a boyfriend." She rambles a little bit, showing some signs of discomfort at having to explain herself.
I have no interest in talking about her dating life so I say, "Do you feel like you've peeked at the hospital then?"
"Exactly!" She looks relieved, "I feel like there's nothing more to learn there, but I'm stuck. I just want to move on to the next chapter like Naruto and…" Sasuke. She doesn't say it but I know that's what she's thinking.
"And I just need to, like, move on," She finishes instead.
I just nodded and take another drink. Its not clear if she's talking about moving on from the hospital or Sasuke at this point. Either way, I'm not good with advice, so I don't say anything. There's a few moments of silence before Sakura turns to me again with a look of excitement that has me instantly on guard. It's the same look Ino has before she forces him to do something reckless and utterly troublesome.
"Do me," Sakura says, her eyes lighting up. I sit up, a blush spreading across my cheeks.
"I'm – um, what?" I stammer.
"Do me," Sakura says with more conviction, "So I can get unstuck and move on."
I tug at my collar a bit, my throat feeling a little tight, "Look I'm sorry if I've sent you some mixed signals here, but I'm not interested in a hook-up and I don't think that's a healthy way for you to 'move on'."
This time Sakura stiffens with a blush.
"What?" she exclaims, and I can see the wheels turning in her mind, going over what she's said again, "No. No, no, no." She said waving her hands in front of her as if clearing the air of an unpleasant smell.
"I meant, analyze me. Like you do for the chunin you mentor." She clarifies, unable to look me in the eye.
"Oh - well, sure." I said quickly, turning into my drink to avoid eye contact as well. Normally I'd be annoyed at a request like this, but anything to change the subject from a drunken hook-up with Sakura Haruno.
"What are your goals?" I ask quickly. She takes a beat to catch up with the misdirection, then responds.
"To bring Sasuke back home," She answers. She doesn't ponder, but that doesn't surprise me. Though a lot has changed, I understand that this fundamental part of who Sakura is probably never will. I imagine that phrase constantly running in the back of her mind until it fades into the subconscious like the sound of your own heartbeat.
"What a surprise," I drawl sarcastically. Her eyes narrow as I've obviously hit a nerve, but she waits for me to continue. "And how do you plan to achieve that goal?"
Her certainty stutters. "Well, I have to get stronger. Strong enough to stand shoulder to shoulder with Naruto and Sasuke. Then we can bring him home together and be a team again."
I want to bang my head against the table at how unrealistic this idea was. This was going to be harder than I thought. Still better than talking about her dating life, I remind myself. Also, somehow this is much better than the niceties and small talk from before.
"Okay, but how will you bring him home?" I reiterate.
"I just told you," She says annoyed.
"No, what you told me is an intention or an idea. I want details. What are your steps to achieving that idea? What's your plan?" I continue.
She sits there for a few seconds, waffling. "Um, I-I'm not sure."
I raise an eyebrow, "I find that hard to believe. You've been obsessing about this for over 2 years."
"I haven't been obsessing, okay? I've been training. That's my plan. I'm getting stronger, so I don't get left behind anymore by them" She replies.
"That's a good first step." I conceded, trying to placate her a little. Last thing I need is her getting too worked up, punching me in the gut and storming off leaving me with the bill. I try a different approach, "When you imaging bringing Sasuke home, what does it look like? What happens?"
Her cheeks turn pink again, and she starts with what I assume is a heavily edited daydream.
"Well, usually there are two scenarios. In one, Sasuke comes home on his own, having escaped Orochimaru after realizing that snake only wanted him as a vessel and that the only real way to defeat Itachi is with me by his side." Her eyes were focused in the distance, far away from reality. "And Naruto! I mean. Not, um, just me by his side. With Team 7 by his side." She corrects.
I struggle to keep from rolling my eyes. I was totally right about the daydream.
"The second, Naruto and I find Sasuke in the sound village. We try to convince him to come home, but he doesn't listen, and we fight. With two against one, we eventually ware him down, and offer him another chance to come home. He realizes he was wrong about cutting his bonds and accepts. Or we just kick his ass and drag him back." She finishes with a self-satisfied smile.
What a fairytale, rose-colored, underdeveloped plan. A fantasy and nothing more. I am in over my head. Telling her as much would certainly land him with a broken bone or two, so he redirected her.
"Okay, let's focus on the second scenario. I think we can both agree that this is the more likely of the two." I start. She looks like she does not agree, but I continues anyway, "There are two things to consider further. How do you get to the start of this encounter and what happens after. Let's start with the start. In this scenario, how do you get to find Sasuke in the sound village?"
"On a retrieval mission from Tsunade-Sama," She answers. Of course, she would pick the most by the book option.
"And who normally goes on retrieval missions for missing-nin?" I ask, not missing a beat.
"Well, that depends on the missing-nin and what skillset is needed" She says stubbornly, but she knows what I'm getting at.
"What rank, Sakura?" I say, not giving her an out this time.
"ANBU black ops. Hunter-nin." She answers, but quickly adds, "But this is different. Tsunade would make an exception. Naruto has the nine-tails and she trained me herself, so-,"
"Even if she wanted to," I cut in, "She couldn't make that exception. The council wouldn't let her."
Sakura doesn't answer, but she frowns telling me she knows this is true.
"If you wanted to get the mission legally, you'd have to be accepted into ANBU and then petition Tsunade to grant you the mission." I explain.
Sakura's mind snagged on one word, "Legally?"
I nod. "That's the only legal way for you to get assigned such a mission. The other option is to defect, become a missing-nin yourself."
"No," She refuses, "that's out of the question." I nod again, unsurprised by her stubborn rejection.
"Then you're looking at one to two years to build up mission requirements to enter the Jonin exams. You have to pass on the first go, a 50% probability given passing rates of the exam. Then, a minimum of 3 years to get noticed for recommendation to ANBU. For those not from a clan and with no kekkei genkai, it's more likely double that. Total, it'd be at least 7 years before you could go after him with the village's approval." I finish.
"I can't wait that long!" She exclaims, "We only have a year left before Orochimaru takes Sasuke as his vessel. It has to be before then."
I raise my hands in a gesture of surrender, "Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just stating the facts here."
"I know," She is quiet a long moment. "I know."
I finish off my drink, pouring another sake for myself and topping off Sakura's. Her plate is finished, and she's fiddling with her chop sticks. I can see she's struggling with what I've laid out. I get it. She didn't want to defect and turn her back on her home, family and friends. Sasuke had nothing to lose when he left Konoha behind, but Sakura had everything.
"I'm not afraid to work for it, but," She trailed off, killing her full glass before continuing. "I want nothing more than to help Naruto bring him back, but I can't throw everything away. I want to be strong enough to put everything I have on the line for the people I love, but I can't. I can't go down the same path as Sasuke without somehow becoming him, or at least letting him control my life again, you know?"
I don't fully get that but nod anyway. I can tell she is feeling the sake now, because her words are more rapid and smear together a little.
I take another long drink from my glass before laying out the plan that I find most optimal.
"There is one more way," I say, not looking at her. "It's still difficult and with the one year time limit, you might be cutting it close. Its not exactly legal either, but if you pulled it off, you wouldn't be labeled a missing-nin."
I glanced at her from the corner of my eye to find her hanging on my every word.
"As you are now, a chunin, it's extremely rare to go on solo missions. Even if you do get one, its only for a day or two and very close to the boarder. For Jonin, however, its not uncommon to have a month-long solo mission in remote countries like Wave or Sound. I'd say about 30% of current A-rank missions meet these criteria." I state.
She nods, "So, what's your point?"
"If you were to make Jonin, and get assigned to one of these, it would be possible to take a," I search for the appropriate word, "- detour to find him. Given the timeframe and location of the mission, that would be easy to cover up by reporting a slightly different version of the events. Say Sasuke ran into you and you had to engage him. At that point, it's required to attempt to bring him back as long as it doesn't jeopardize the primary mission. The only person who would refute you would be Sasuke, but I doubt they'd put much stock into what he has to say." I say.
"Shikamaru, that's brilliant!" Sakura gushed. "I'd be able to bring him back without leaving the village."
"Don't get ahead of yourself. It's not that easy," I try to temper her joy. "There's still a lot of unknowns and things that could go wrong to get there."
Sakura isn't deterred, "As long as I work my hardest, I can get there. Or at least I'll know I did everything I could."
I let out a laugh, "Haven't you heard the phrase 'work smarter not harder'?"
"Yes, and I get the feeling that's your nindou, Shikamaru." She teased.
"Something like that." I mutter, feinting slightly that I'm put out.
"I'll need your help then, Shikamaru." She says with sudden soberness. "If I'm going to pull this off, I need you to help me strategize. To see the obstacles in my way and help me think of ways around them."
"Absolutely not," I say, without hesitation, "This is a fun little exercise, but that's all. You aren't seriously considering it?" I say, but the sinking feeling in my stomach tells me I know full well she is taking every word I've said tonight at face value.
"I am, and I'm not drunk enough to be convinced otherwise." She says, "But you seem to be forgetting something. You owe me a favor." Her grin is positively Cheshire.
"This is a little much –," I protest.
"You said a life debt. This is well within that definition. You are helping me save Sasuke's life." She counters.
"And you are also forgetting something," I remind her, more force behind my words this time. "We've only gone over half the story. These are the events leading up to you confronting Sasuke. What are you going to do afterward? I don't see a lot of positive outcomes here, Sakura."
"Then explain it to me." She says, not backing down.
I sign a longsuffering sigh, knowing I'm going to regret this later. More than I already do.
"Sasuke isn't going to come back to the village by force. Even if you, how did you put it, 'kick his ass and drag him back', as soon as he is well enough, he will leave again. Even if he didn't, you wouldn't be a team again because he will most likely be imprisoned for some time, then on a probationary period as a genin. Probably capped at chunin rank for life."
Sakura carefully considers my words. "You're right."
That surprises me, probably the first time she's agreed with me all night.
Sakura continues, "Unless he comes willingly, there's no point in forcing him back, but I don't care about the probation. Naruto is willing to wait as long as it takes to be a team again. Even if we don't go on missions anymore, we can still be a team. We can still be together."
My initial reaction is to groan. Just sappy. Totally sappy. But, I give it a moment to sink in and think about my own team. They are a family and if I was in Sakura's shoes, I'd probably feel the same.
"Fair enough," I grunt. "What a drag. Persuading him to come back would be ten times harder than using force. It might even be impossible."
"Come on, Shika. Nothing's impossible with your mind on the case." She said a little too sweetly.
"Shika?" I wince, "If you're trying to butter me up, that's not going to work. You were better off your original approach– emotional blackmail."
Even with the duplicitous tone, her smile is genuine. It stops my heart for just a beat. Her cheeks are still rosy from the drink, hair tied back in a messy knot that leaves carefree strands swinging around her face, and her jade eyes sparkle.
I can't remember the last time I'd seen such a look on her, or anyone's face for that matter, directed at me. I'd seen her smile though tears often enough, and though I'd never say it to her face, she is an ugly crier. There was the exhausted but satisfied smile as she left the hospital. Also, a sterile, polite smile she gives to acquaintances or strangers as they passed in the Hokage's office. Even the comforting, professional smile of a doctor reassuringly delivering Kurenai's progress report. Never this.
This is lightning across her face - lighting up with unadulterated excitement and crackling with conspiratorial comradery that bordered on flirtation. Was it her one hundred percent focus on me, the way she was hanging on my every word, or the proximity in the tiny food stand that has me feeling drawn in by her? I strangely want to lean closer and –
"Better than slapping you across the head until you help me!" She says in an innocent, sing song voice. (AN: GOD I HATE THAT LINE. OH WELL)
And there it goes.
"God damn it, Sakura! Don't even joke about that," I say, pulling away from her as much as the seat will allow. She just laughs and waves off the joke.
"One way or another, I know you love to strategize, Shikamaru." She says, mercifully using my full name. "This might be enough of a challenge to catch your interest even without blackmail."
"Don't count on it. You forget how lazy I am, and this sounds like too much work to be bothered." I say brushing her off.
"Humor me here. How would you do it? How would you convince him to come back?" She says, tone coming back to serious again.
I think quietly for a minute. Then another.
"Don't fall asleep on me," She says, impatient.
"I'm thinking, woman," I snap.
"Then think out loud." She replies. I mutter 'troublesome women' under my breathe but comply with her request.
"From Sasuke's perspective, he left for revenge on Itachi, or rather strength to carry out the revenge. He won't want to come home until this is complete. He's made it clear several times that he's discarded his bonds and even Naruto couldn't convince him otherwise. So, any offers to help him will be disregarded."
"Well, obviously," Sakura says with a little too much force. I ignore her tone.
"The easiest course would be to wait until he's completed his revenge and confront him then." I conclude.
"We can't wait that long," Sakura counters, "Naruto will want him home before Orochimaru tries to use him as a vessel."
"Honestly, if I were Sasuke, I'd be planning to kill Orochimaru the second I surpass him, well before Orochimaru tries anything." I say candidly.
"Yes," Sakura gasps, "He wouldn't just turn over. He'd fight."
"Exactly. Sasuke's smart and wouldn't trust Orochimaru to kill Itachi after the body transfer is complete." I add on. "Let's assume this is the case."
"We can't," She interjects, "I want to believe Sasuke could kill Orochimaru, but what if he fails. Naruto would want to be there to help him."
"I don't think that's wise. You'll just be two more people Sasuke is trying to fight." I respond.
Sakura lets out a frustrated huff, "Then why don't we just kill Itachi ourselves?"
Even though I'm sure she said it sarcastically, I dismiss the idea. "I don't think that's an option either. Too big a risk he'd just hate you guys forever and never return home. Even if we framed it on someone else, he would just have a new target."
"What are you trying to say then? That waiting is the only option and I should just give up?" She raises her voice a little too loud and the stall owner shoots a glance our way. I give him a smile back that says 'everything's fine here' and he turns away again.
I lean forward and say quietly, "Yes, that's exactly what I said in the beginning, but you wouldn't accept that."
When this doesn't change her expression, he continues, "There is one more thing I can think of, but you'll never go for it and neither would I."
I wait for her to say something and after a moment she prompts, "Well? Let's hear it!"
"We could offer Naruto as bait if he leaves. You could help lure Itachi to Sasuke since we know Akatsuki is after the nine-tails," I'm practically whispering. This is not something I should even be saying out loud.
"No," she whispers sharply, understanding the gravity of the idea. "How could you even think that?"
"I warned you that you wouldn't like it," I grumble, "I'm just trying to show you how few options you have here, and that the ones left aren't favorable. You will have to get your hands dirty here Sakura. One way or another."
She hisses out a breath, "I know. But I won't give up until I find a way to do this as clean as possible. I won't throw away my future for Sasuke anymore. I don't want to betray the village or Naruto for this."
"I know," I say with a sympathetic look. "I get it, I really do. But until we get more information or think of a way to convince Sasuke to give up his revenge, there's no way forward."
"More information…to convince him," Sakura mumbles, and dips a hand in the pocket of her coat. The pulls a piece of folded paper out, but doesn't open it. She mumbles something under her breath he can't quite catch.
"What was that?" I ask.
"I can do it." Sakura says with resolve. She grabs the paper and gestures with it, "I can get more information to convince him to give it up. I think I have a lead. I just need time,"
"Sakura, as you've said multiple times this evening, we don't have time here." I say sarcastically. That and I'm quite certain there is no new information out there to convince the only man more bull headed than Naruto to abandon his lifelong mission of revenge.
"Okay, fine. Here's the deal," She says, squaring up with me on her stool, "You be my mentor and help me strategize to get into the next Jonin exams. We agreed this was the first step regardless of what we plan to do after the confrontation with Sasuke. While I train, I'll keep looking for more information, for something big enough to convince him to stay. Once I have it, I'll do as you said and slip away during a long solo mission nearby the Sound Village. With whatever 'emotional blackmail' I uncover, I confront him and do my best to convince him to come home." She explains.
It was a terrible, awful plan. There were way to many what-ifs to be reliable. I pick one hole and probe.
"And if you don't find more information to convince him?" I ask, with no confidence that something like that exists.
"Then you win, and we wait Sasuke out. We monitor what he's up to and intercept him after he's finished with Itachi if he doesn't come back on his own." She reasoned. "No harm done if I get a promotion out of it anyway. And it will make it easier to track his movements, should it come to that." She tacks on at the end.
There is a tense moment as I mull over her words. Not like I really had a choice, here. I did owe this woman a life debt.
"Alright, deal." I grumble finally, "Damned if I do, damned if I don't."
Sakura lets out a relieved, heady laugh, and throws her arms around me with so much force, I'm almost knocked off my bar stool.
"Thank you!" She breaths out, pulling back. My cheeks grow warm, surprised by her outburst and the sudden physical contact. "Let's get me promoted!"
"They won't know what hit them," I say sarcastically, trying to make my reluctance known. Then, she's giving me that lightning grin again and I can't help but recognize those words I spoke are true, because I certainly didn't know what hit me either.

Temari, Shikamaru, Neji, Rock Lee
god this is my THIRD ATTEMPT TO DO THIS SO IM DOING IT IN WORDS DOC
temari
favorite thing about them: i've written this 3 times!!!! BUT!!!! i love that at the age of FIFTEEN she'd already got the title cruelest konoichi. like. ilu queen. and she's so confident too, like she knows she could wreck anyone's shit, she goes up against MADARA without ever pausing. and i love that whilee on the battlefield she's cruel, as a civillian she's just...lowkey a bitch. like she's scary and people know to fear her but she doesnt actually...bully anyone besides shikamaru. she's also so ride or die for her brothers and i LOVE it.
least favorite thing about them: whatever that ooc mess was that was used to get her and shikamaru together.
favorite line: idk but when she tells madara "don't understimate me!" GO OFF QUEEN
brOTP: gaara and kankuro, 100%. the sand siblings are so fucking good. i could talk all day about them. in the leaf i think she vibes with ino, though she needs Breaks. she didn't like, Get choji at first but the more she got to know him she's like "oh i get it he's just Genuinely Good" and now he's her favorite. i also like to imagine she and karui bonded over not being from the leaf, and also having ino as their sister in law. that's a unique experience okay.
OTP: shikamaru!!!!!!!
nOTP: i dont really have any?? i just can't ship her with anyone but shikamaru, i think he's it for her. temari was never really one to be concerned over romance or anything, it's not something she cared about, and she kind of expected an arranged marriage so she was more focused on Not doing that. but then shikamaru happened and it was like. oh. she actually wouldn't mind spending the rest of her life with him. huh. gross.
random headcanon: i have a lot of Thoughts about temari as a mother. i think that she never planned on being one, just like how she never planned on falling in love. it wasn't opposition, just. her childhood was fucked up, she had no good parental role models, she was much more interested in being a konoichi. but then she and shikamaru got serious and shikamaru is the head of the nara clan and he needed an heir. she agreed to it, in a few years, but shikadai was an oops ! so anyway, temari hated being pregnant lmao which is why they only had shikadai. but once he was born temari is like "oh. i'll kill and die for this child." like shikadai wasn't Real to her until she held him (vs shikamaru, who's been obsessed with that child since temari first started showing). temari actually tried going back to work when shikadai was a year old but pretty quickly she realized "fuck this". temari likes working, a lot, but she also likes being needed and she just likes her kid! so she oversaw all his training from the time he was old enough. it was hard at first, because she's never babied him, but she knew that the training she recieved was uh, not acceptable, so she struggled with what pace was actually okay for his age. hinata and sakura actually helped a lot here- hinata also had Fucked Up training as a child and sakura trained with tsunade who is Insane so they were able to figure out what worked best for their children. GOD THIS GOT LONG. anyway. i love temari and shikadai thank u.
unpopular opinion: i love shikatema so much but she was done so fucking dirty
song i associate with them: hurricane by the fray
favorite picture of them: she always looks so cool
shikamaru
favorite thing about them: god. i hate this but i genuinely love how smart he is and how fucking lazy he is. like how he kept complaing about his match with temari being moved up and then you realize it's because he was relying on the shadows? bitch. he's so cool. and when he pretended to be asleep rather than deal with whatever the fuck orochimaru was doing ESRTYTJU that's when i knew i loved him. but also, i love his development. like he really just wanted to coast through life, didnt want to get involved in anything, just wanted a plain wife and two boring kids. he had absolutely no aspirations. and he never had a ~change of heart~ for his own sake, he just surrounded himself by people who genuinely inspired him and he wanted to be of use to them. l love him!!!
least favorite thing about them: like the misogyny doesn't bother me THAT much because hashtag it could be worse! but it's not good lmao
favorite line: BITCH! "i'm your god" SIR I LOVE YOU. also his line about how he can't die because naruto doesn't have a smart younger brother to help him, and he's the only one capable of being naruto's advisor.
brOTP: ino and asuma are the only Strictly platonic ones but obviously i LOVE his friendships with choji and naruto
OTP: TEMARIIIIIIIII, also choji and naruto.........i'm soft
nOTP: listen. it's not notp but everytime i remember people ship shikaino i'm like "they're siblings???" like no judgement, i have too many fucking ships fandom calls siblings, but their dynamic is SO sibling like to me lmao. also like...shikamaru loves ino and would do anything for her but he does NOT like her ass. you know he avoids her when he's too tired to deal with her bullshit.
random headcanon: LET'S KEEP TALKING ABOUT SHIKADAI. so when shikamaru's dad dies he has a line about how he wasn't around when shikamaru was growing up, and shikamaru obviously doesn't resent him for that, but he does make a concious choice to Not do that. it'd be too easy to get wrapped up in his job, but he won't let himself. he makes sure to make time for shikadai. they play shogi together, and shikamaru is very involved in his training, and even when he's exhausted from work he'll listen to shikadai talk about his day and never show how tired he is. he loves his kid so much, temari makes fun of him for being soft. also when shikadai was a baby shikamaru was lowkey obsessed with him lmao. temari needed Breaks but shikamaru...never really did. even when he was crying he would just hold and bounce him until he calmeed down (also shikamaru was way better at calming shikadai down than temari lmao)
unpopular opinion: listen. is shikamaru misogynistic? yes. but he doesn't like, hate women or think less of them, he just needed to learn that not every woman is as insane as ino. i've seen too many "naruto as vines" videos where it's like shikamaru is like "oh sorry i fell asleep waiting for you to make me a sandwich" like thats not him!
song i associate with them: uh nicotine by P!ATD
favorite picture of them: my header on twitter i guess idk!
neji
favorite thing about them: oh gosh. i genuinely like that he was a fucking angry child. he had every right to be. the hyuuga system is FUCKED! he projected it onto hinata, which wasn't fair to her, but god. he didn't have an outlet and the chunnin exams was his only opportunity to take his anger out on the main branch. anyway i love that after naruto beat his ass he was like "okay maybe i should stop being a prick" and he just. got better. became friends with his team. healed his relationship with hinata. he became so genuinely good
least favorite thing about them: this motherfucker really had me CRYING over him. rude as fuck.
favorite line: i am way too tired to think about this
brOTP: HINATA!!!!!!! also rock lee.
OTP: tenten!
nOTP: hinata. i hate you freaks.
random headcanon: himawari would've been his favorite. like, he loves boruto, that's his nephew, but he's a mini naruto and that's. exhausting. himawari is perfect in neji's eyes though and tenten makes fun of him for it.
unpopular opinion: its' not unpopular but genuinely it's bullshit he died when hinata's dad was RIGHT THERE. like. i will never not be fucking heated that neji died to protect hinata and her dad was just twiddling his goddamn thumbs as it happened. you useless FUCK. god. anyway i also hate that neji's death he just talked to naruto like his speech to naruto was good but we deserved more neji and hinata talking. i also don't like he died for naruhina to happen lmao we've talked about this, someone in the konoha 11 needed to die for naruto to prove obito wrong, and i dont even mind that it was neji, but his death shouldn't have had anything to do with naruhina.
song i associate with them: i dont have one but uhhh i found a neji playlist so i'm gonna say r.i.p 2 my youth by the neighborhood
favorite picture of them: bruh. idc.
rock lee
favorite thing about them: HE'S SO HARD WORKING AND DETERMINED AND NEVER GIVES UP AND HE'S A GENUINELY GOOD AND KIND HEARTED PERSON GOD ROCK LEE I LOVE YOU
least favorite thing about them: WHERE'S HIS SCREENTIME KISHIMOTO
favorite line: dude he's so weird i have no idea
brOTP: neji and tenten!!! and GAI OF COURSE. AND SAKURA. 10/10.
OTP: GAARA.
nOTP: listen there is GENUINELY nothing wrong with it but i dont vibe with rock lee/tenten.
random headcanon: ok this isn't a real headcanon but i made myself laugh yesterday thinking that orochimaru got bored and cloned rock lee and that's where metal lee came from. anyway real headcanon is he's married to gaara in boruto. thank u.
unpopular opinion: shut up about his and gaara's fight oh my GOD i dont care
song i associate with them: uhhhh idk here have a rock lee tribute
favorite picture of them: what's important is his good heart

But I Like One Piece (3)
Her schedule becomes much busier after that.
She gets up an hour before training with Gai-sensei and goes to get Naruto. He’s taken to setting up traps again to dissuade her, growing more complex and subtle by the day.
She’s getting very good at dodging and disarming them.
They train with Gai-sensei for two hours. Usually running laps and doing katas focused on fluidity and strength. He seems to have taken Sanji’s creed as a personal challenge and she’s usually wearing mitten-like weights over her hands or has her arms tied behind her back.
After training, she returns home to practice katas with her father, using a smaller bokken.
She has a very short amount of time to shower and get dressed before Naruto arrives for breakfast with her family.
Sometimes Gai-sensei joins them, and she never knew embarrassment before she had to watch her parents try not to swoon over his every word. She suspects both Okaa-sama and Otou-sama have crushes on him.
Naruto grimaces next to her and they eat their food in double time and shout their goodbyes as they run to the Academy.
They eat lunch separately.
It’s Naruto’s idea, and rather ingenious if she does say so.
They sit at opposite ends of the same table while Ino, Sakura, Shikamaru (sleepy guy), Chouji, and Kiba are spread out between them. She knows their names now. Ino made sure of it.
Ino and Sakura try to get her involved in girl talk, Chouji alternates between talking to her about cooking and to Shikamaru about classes, while Kiba and Naruto discuss what kind of cool ninja moves they know and will learn next year.
They’re close enough that it still feels like they’re spending time together, but the conversation and slight dispersal of the seating positions mean they’re “technically” not eating a meal together.
After the Academy day is over, she goes to the market with her mother to buy groceries. Once they get back, she prepares their lunch boxes the moment groceries are put away, making extra due to the sheer amount of sharing that goes on, with Naruto yelling ridiculous suggestions as Okaa-sama measures him for new clothes.
He seems to be going through a growth spurt, now his body is getting the nutrients it needs.
They finish their homework together in the kitchen while her mother makes dinner. Otou-sama usually arrives in time for them to finish setting the table and they eat dinner together.
On Wednesdays and Fridays they get ramen from Ichiraku’s. Every other weekend is when the Hokage checks in on Naruto, so she’ll not see him for the entire two days.
After Naruto leaves for his curfew, she helps wash the dishes while her parents ensure she’s up to speed on their family history.
She goes to bed early, because she learned quickly not doing so made Gai-sensei’s training that much worse to bear.
They move up a year.
It’s almost a shame, because towards the end there the teacher had begun warming up to Naruto, if saying “Good luck Ketsugi, Uzumaki.” counts as “warming up”.
She supposes she maybe should’ve had a bit more faith in the teacher, even if the woman does have an unhealthy idealization of the World Government-level tyrant Usagi-hime and is completely, totally wrong about pirates being poor role models to aspire to.
Now they’re going to have a new teacher and begin the whole rigmarole over again.
At least their classmates are already used to him, and they get a three week break before the summer term starts.
Her new birthday’s the weekend before classes start up again too, so there’s that.
Naruto’s being stalked.
She notices it a few days into the break, when Okaa-sama begs for them to act their age for once and go play outside instead of just training or cooking.
Naruto knows a good swing set outside the Academy and they spend half an hour trying to see if they can get the swing to go all the way round.
Yes, she has the memories and partial mindset of a twenty year old, but this is the dream of every child who has ever been on a swing, including her, and they are in an anime ninja world.
If there’s anywhere it’ll be possible to fulfill this dream, it’s here.
She’s managed to go almost horizontal on her swing while Naruto whoops in glee behind her, and on the backswing she spots a blur of dark hair hiding behind a tree and watching them.
No, she thinks, slowing a little while Naruto kicks with increased vigor and whoops again once he touches tree branches, the person’s weird pale eyes remaining fixed on his swinging. Watching him.
The stalker follows them everywhere.
She’s getting reasonably sure the stalker is a girl, because just about the only place she doesn’t follow Naruto is the boy’s bathroom.
She’s almost on par with the masks for stealth otherwise, remaining far enough away that it’s not obvious she’s stalking but close enough that she always has a clear line of sight to Naruto.
She’s definitely a member of one of the village clans. Her skills and the symbol on her high-quality clothing attest to that much. But what’s her interest in Naruto?
She waits a minute after Naruto enters the bathroom, and then walks towards the stalker.
The girl knows better than to run and draw attention to herself, but she does backpedal a bit.
“Look,” She says, not unkindly. “I don’t know who you are. I don’t know why you’re watching Naruto. I don’t think you want to hurt him, and I’ll let you off so long as you don’t. Just don’t steal any of his underwear, or invade his privacy and make him uncomfortable, or we’ll have problems. Am I clear?”
The girl blushes tomato red. She opens and closes her mouth several times. She flees.
She sighs. The stalker may have just been too shy for her own good, but it’s always wise to nip a potential yandere in the bud before obsession really takes hold.
That weekend they get an addition to their morning training.
Gai-sensei comes striding onto their training field with a boy about their age trotting along behind him. He has a braid and very bushy eyebrows.
“This is Rock Lee!” Gai-sensei says proudly. “He will be joining our most youthful training!”
“I am Rock Lee and I am eight years old.” The boy introduces himself. “I am honored to meet the students of Maito Gai-sensei!”
“I’m Uzumaki Naruto and I’m seven! Imma be the Hokage, believe it!” Naruto cheers, waking up more with the chance to say his dream.
“Ketsugi Mayu. I’ll be seven two weeks from now. It’s nice to meet you, Lee-senpai.” She bows to him.
“Ah! It is I who should be calling you senpai, as you were students of Maito Gai-sensei before me!” Rock Lee insists, eyes shining. What a polite boy.
“Heck yeah! Just call me Naruto-senpai!” Naruto boasts, hands on his hips and nose in the air.
“No, don’t make him do that...”
“HOW YOUTHFUL!!” Gai-sensei roars, tears of joy streaming down his cheeks. The only person she’s ever seen cry more than him is Franky. “It brings me much joy to see my students getting along so well! Yosh! LET US RUN 50 LAPS AROUND KONOHA ON OUR HANDS!!”
“Yes, Gai-sensei!!” Lee yells back.
“Lee!”
“Gai-sensei!”
“Lee!”
“Gai-sensei!”
She and Naruto share a horrified glance. Oh god there’s two of them now.
There’s a lot of falling on faces, and 50 laps around Konoha do not get completed. They do manage 20 circuits somehow, and Gai-sensei tells them all he’s extremely proud of them.
That’s what’s nice about Gai-sensei. Even if you couldn’t quite reach the goal he set the first time, he’s always encouraging and takes every effort as something to be celebrated and built upon. He makes you want to succeed, but not worry about failing to get there.
They’re doing cool down stretches when Lee’s stomach growls.
Her eyes narrow.
Naruto catches sight of the look on her face and begins snickering.
Gai-sensei, cheerfully oblivious, straightens up. “Yosh! Mayu-chan, would your parents mind if we imposed upon them for breakfast?”
“Of course not Gai-sensei. They’d be delighted to have you.” She smiles.
Lee curls into himself a little, beginning to retreat. “Then I shall meet you all here tomorrow! Have a good morn—”
Her hand clamps down on his arm. She keeps smiling. “Training breakfasts are at my house. Here’s the address for you, so you can join us.”
Lee blinks, eyes shining suspiciously. “Ah...uh..is this...okay?”
“Don’t fight it Lee!” Naruto calls behind her. “Or she’ll hunt you down to feed you, believe it!”
“I did not hunt you down!” She yelps indignantly. “You set traps when I left you food!”
“I just wanted to say thank you!” “With chalk dust?!”
And so Lee joins them for breakfast.
He’s loud and a bit awkward, effusively thanking her parents for even the smallest of things and easily getting caught up in Gai-sensei’s pace.
He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body though, and can be surprisingly level-headed and reliable when not overexcited. Which, admittedly, is a lot of the time.
He also likes her curries, which Naruto wrongly insists are “pure LAVA on a plate, Mayu-chan, curry’s supposed to be sweet and savory, not burn your mouth off!”
She’s just glad she now knows somebody who can appreciate what a real curry is rather than the sweet, spice less sauce that cowards attempt to pretend counts.
Her parents are convinced he’s somehow Gai-sensei’s long lost son. To be fair to them, the eyebrows and enthusiasm are very...similar. Their theorizing ran rampant when Lee mentioned he lived in the Village Orphanage while assuring her he did, in fact, get enough to eat.
Gai-sensei isn’t exactly dissuading these theories with how much he mother-hens the boy either. She suspects he overacts and exaggerates his normal robustness a little bit for Lee, to stop the boy from glancing around during training sessions or meals like he can’t quite believe he deserves to be here.
She can’t exactly criticize, since she and Naruto and Okaa-sama and Otou-sama are also doing all they can to make Lee feel welcome.
The weekend of her birthday isn’t like any birthdays she’s had before in this life.
For all that she grew up in Konoha, she never had any friends before Naruto. Running laps was a much more productive use of her time, even if her mother worried about her being lonely.
A quiet dinner in with her new parents was enough for her.
Naruto missed her sixth birthday because he had to spend the weekend with the Hokage, then insisted on trying to draw Luffy for her from the stories she’s told him as a late birthday present.
It’s not a very accurate drawing—Luffy’s straw hat is upside down and he’s got lasers shooting from his eyes and looks like a distressed noodle overall, but it hangs on her wall all the same.
Naruto has been pulling a vanishing act sporadically throughout the week, which she wasn’t overly concerned about.
She knows about birthday preparations, and if he wants it to be a surprise, she’ll humor him.
Though she did stumble upon a scene where Lee was on one knee in front of Sakura, while Naruto prepared to hit him with a bag of mulch from behind.
All three froze when they realized she was there, stammered out something incomprehensible, and fled like startled mice.
She has no idea what was going on there, but she’d pay good money to find out.
Or at least cook a good meal, because all her ingredient purchases leave her perpetually broke.
Naruto isn’t in his apartment the morning of her birthday.
She gets past all of his traps only to knock on the door and hear no answer. The neighbors yell at her when her repeated hammering on the entrance gets too loud.
Lee isn’t with Gai-sensei when she finally arrives to training. He pointedly ignores all her questions about where the other two are, but teaches her the kata for a dropkick in exchange.
It’s difficult, but the grin she gets when her heel hits the ground and leaves a dent is blinding.
He walks her home too.
That’s when she realizes this was planned.
Sure enough, the curtains on the windows are drawn, and Gai-sensei is a little eager to go ahead of her into the house.
The lights coming on are blinding, and the yell of “HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAYU!!” should not be as loud as it is considering there are only five people in the room.
She’s sweaty and worn out and for some reason she can’t stop smiling so hard her cheeks hurt.
Lee and Gai-sensei present her with a set of weights and a few pairs of orange leg warmers to cover them, like the ones they wear on a daily basis. She grins and thinks it might be nice to wear something that reminds her of the two of them and Naruto, who has insisted on getting mainly orange clothing since Okaa-sama once told him he had the coloring for it.
Okaa-sama and Otou-sama give her a book on baking bread that’s about as heavy as the weights and several bags of different types of flour. She hugs them as tightly as she can. There’s wheat and rye and multigrain and gluten-free and she can’t wait to see what she can create with all of this.
Naruto fidgets and shoves a small pot with a rosemary plant in it into her arms. “Ino let me have this if I helped out at the Yamanaka flower shop with her and Sakura-chan, believe it, and she said it tastes really good in food and its name is Habu-san because plants are living things, so they should have names like people and animals do, right?”
She inhales the slightly salty scent.
Later, after she’s finally had a shower and gotten dressed with the addition of the leg warmers, Sakura and Ino will drop by with a set of sparkly silver hair clips and a chef’s hat keychain.
They’ll all go to a restaurant owned by Chouji’s family to eat, and she’ll devour one of the best plates of chicken katsu, intent on figuring out the recipe through taste alone. She’ll share a chocolate cake with Chouji and Naruto, laughing as the latter pouts when describing Lee’s declaration to woo Sakura when he becomes a worthy ninja.
But for now, she just beams at her best friend and tells him, “I really love Habu-san. Thank you so much for giving this to me, Naruto.”
They return to the Academy.
Lee walks with them there, and they wave to each other as they go to their respective classrooms.
Kiba runs up to them within seconds of arriving in their new classroom, a beam on his face so bright it could outshine the sun itself.
“Igotmyninkenpartner!!!” He bursts out, practically vibrating with happiness.
She blinks. Looks at Naruto, who shrugs. Looks back at Kiba. “Beg your pardon?”
He groans, cuddling a bundle close to his chest. As she’s looking down at it, it squirms.
“I. Got. My. Ninken. Partner.” He repeats, with exaggerated slowness. “It’s a huge thing for the Inuzuka! We get chosen by a ninken, and they can understand human speech and learn cool ninja moves with us, so when we grow up we’ll be twice as awesome as any other ninja!!”
“What’s a ninken?” Naruto asks as the bundle squirms again—
And a puppy pops out.
“Meet Akamaru!” Kiba says proudly. Akamaru is white with floppy brown ears and big dark eyes and—
“Akamaru.” She says seriously. “You are a very good boy.”
The puppy yips in response and she could die right then and there from happiness.
This year they’re actually moving into the ninja portion of Academy learning.
The new teacher is a white haired man and he has them sit criss-crossed on the floor.
“Chakra is a force found in all living beings, a combination of their spiritual and physical energy, or yin and yang. It is a ninja’s greatest tool, the source of genjutsu and ninjutsu.” He drones on.
Does it run on midochlorians too? A voice in her head that sounds like her past brother’s mocks.
It just all sounds so inaccurate, like a bunch of different ideas mashed together to seem cool.
At least Devil Fruits were somewhat understandable. Eat a weird fruit, it messes with your genetics, you get powers. Much more plausible.
She pokes Naruto awake again and the teacher glares at them. “Today we’ll focus on basic chakra awareness. I want you to meditate and locate your chakra center.”
The classmates around her close their eyes. After an especially sharp glare, she does so too.
It’s warm in the classroom.
It’s noisy outside, and she can feel Naruto’s knee press into her leg.
She focuses on her breathing. It’s almost peaceful, retreating inside herself like this—
There’s something inside her.
It wasn’t there before.
It doesn’t belong in her.
She thinks it doesn’t like that she’s found it.
It’s like forcibly being made aware of blood circulating through your body. Not simply your heart beating, but the friction as the liquid scrapes through your veins, the pain as the breakneck current is divided and divided again, until dead ends send the liquid flying back to where it came from at the same terrifying speed.
“What the shit?!” She gasps out, eyes flying open.
Then she hears what she just said and claps her hands over her mouth as the children around her break into surprised titters.
The teacher glowers. “Ketsugi, go stand in the hall.”

Summary: Partying and general merriment were just two things that Kakashi Hatake never sought in his day to day life. But when the entire gang gets together for a one off special event for a good friend, how can he refuse?

Kakashi was in his bedroom, not hiding. Nope, he just left his office early, through the window, ditched his ANBU, and snuck into his old apartment because he could. It had nothing to do with a certain senbon-obsessed shinobi or his ridiculous birthday party.
He was quite sure the entire thing would be a disaster. Everyone would be there, everyone would be drinking, and Genma would expect--no demand--he participate. If Genma didn’t make him, Gai certainly would.
There could be no worse punishment than this. So he would spend his evening sitting on the floor in a bare room, and he couldn’t have been happier about it.
There was a sharp knock at the door quickly followed by a most youthful yelling. “Gai-sensei, Gai-sensei! It is time for us to go to the pub.”
Gai pulled the door open and greeted his student with a jaunty thumbs up and a blinding smile. “Ah Lee, you are correct. We must get going if we are going to pick up Neji and Tenten. I would hate for them to miss this after all our practicing this week.”
Lee dashed away as his sensei closed the door. “Yes we must hurry! Gai-sensei, this will be my opportunity to woo the lovely Sakura. I am sure I can impress her with our display of youthfulness.”
“Mom, Dad, hurry up! We don’t wanna be late. Hinata will be there,” Naruto yelled up the stairs.
"Oh, well if Hinata will be there we really must hurry," Kushina said as she came down the stairs, still struggling to clasp her earring. "We really shouldn't keep my future daughter-in-law waiting."
Minato, only two steps behind her, shook his head. "She is only your future daughter-in-law if your son actually gets around to asking her out."
Kushina whipped around and stuck her tongue out, earning a chuckle from her husband.
"I told you it's not like that," Naruto protested as they filed out of the door.
Minato pulled the door shut before putting an arm around Kushina and pulling her to his side. "At this rate we are never going to get grandchildren."
"Neji, if I have to go, so do you," Tenten protested sitting on the side of their bed buckling the straps of her pointy heels.
"You do know people will actually see us there?" he asked with an exaggerated roll of his pale eyes.
Tenten stood, took a moment to check her balance in the unfamiliar shoes, then took his hand. "If you go, and don't complain more than absolutely necessary, I will shampoo your hair."
Neji took a moment to consider her offer. He knew she enjoyed showering together as much as he did, so it wasn't much of a bribe. Even so, it was an offer he could not refuse, but she didn't have to know that. "Will you dry it too?"
Bang. Bang. Bang. --came the forceful knock at the door. "Neji! Tenten! Gai-sensei and I are here! We can all go to the pub together."
Tenten shook her head--the two of them had no idea how to do anything at a normal volume. "Yes, I'll dry it too," she agreed, still shaking her head. "We’d better go before they piss off the neighbors again."
Shizune was attempting to exit the shower, for the third time. "Genma, let go. The hot water is all gone, and you can't be late for your own party." She reached for a towel, but Genma grabbed it first. He patted his lover dry before wrapping it around her torso.
He pulled her close for one more searing kiss. "Fine, I'll let you get ready, but just know whatever you wear is subject to being destroyed when we get home tonight."
Shizune was dressed long before Genma. She wasn't remotely surprised by this. He always spent too long on his hair, and it always looked exactly the same as when he started.
“Come on,” she whined. “We still have to go track down our illustrious Hokage.”
“I’ve got that covered. I’m sending the best.”
Sakura looked herself over in the full-length mirror. Ino was truly a miracle worker. She had pulled, pushed, and blinded Sakura into someone she almost didn’t recognize, before slipping a red strapless number onto her.
“You look great. Honestly, I think it’s my best work yet.”
“I don’t know how you do it. No one would know I just spent fourteen hours at the hospital.”
Ino’s eyebrow raised dangerously until it was lost behind her long blonde bangs. “I thought you said you only worked twelve hours today?”
“Well... there was a nap at my desk, and I had lunch so I really only worked twelve hours,” she stated proudly. Ino would see right through her, but hopefully she would just drop it.
Ino help up her arms in mock surrender. “Whatever you say. Now are you going to tell me why you are so worried about tonight?”
Sakura bit her lip, considering how to answer. Telling the truth would make it real, but lying to Ino was impossible. After everything they've been through together, Ino deserved the truth.
She took a deep breath, and turned to face her friend fully. “He kissed me.”
Ino’s eyes were as wide as her smile. “Where?”
“On the lips?” Sakura replied, confused.
“No, where were you? When? How was it? Was there a mask?” Ino’s questions were flying out so fast Sakura couldn’t comprehend them all.
“Um, how about I tell you all about it later, I’ve gotta go,” she answered with a shy grin, then took off down the stairs and through the flower shop. Ino heard the ting of the door chimes as Sakura ran out. She smiled at her own image in the mirror. Took them long enough. She smoothed the sides of her violet satin dress, and headed down the stairs. This was shaping up to be Genma’s best party ever, and she wasn’t going to miss a moment of it.
Kakashi had known she would be the one to find him. There was no getting out of it now. He opened the door just as she was raising a hand to knock. “How’d you know?”
“I just did. I can always find you,”  she said, reaching out for his hand.
His fingers wrapped around hers. “Fine, I’ll go, but I am not singing.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure. I hear Gai has been practicing. I know you won’t back down from a challenge,” she teased.

Alright I promised that if a certain post of mine reached 15 notes I would post the first fic I ever wrote.
My text posts usually get an average of 0 notes, so I was surprised that it succeeded. As painful as it was to type up, I like to keep my promises, so here it is, in all its unedited glory:
Naruto’s POV:
We battled, and I’m not talking about some friendly “we’ll both be very healthy when this is finished” battle, I’m talking about to the death.
At first I held my own, we were equally matched, but I felt myself weakening. Soon I couldn’t go on...I found myself crawling along the ground toward him, trying to finish it.
He was walking towards me. He stopped in front of me. Then, he leaned down, lifted my chin, and...KISSED ME!...I was confused, not only because I would never expect Sasuke to that, but because I almost felt like I liked it!
However, I didn’t have much time to dwell on this thought. I was so tired and worn out. I collapsed into his arms. But I thought I saw regret in his eyes.
The next thing I knew I woke up, and was staring into his eyes.
Sasuke’s POV:
I was going to do it, I was going to kill my best friend. It was so perfect, I would gain the power and kill Itachi. But just when I was about to finish it a new emotion came over me. I knew I couldn’t kill him.
Instead I changed my course. Instead of stabbing him, I crouched down and kissed him… I felt instant regret. I could tell Naruto either didn’t return the feeling, or he was very confused. Then he collapsed into my arms.
I knew the right thing to do would be to carry him back to Konoha, and remain there myself. So I picked him up and headed on my way. It was a long way there, and I had many people ask where I was going.
One old man asked “Where are you taking that young man, sunny,”
   “To Konoha,” I replied “why?“
“Because your bow suggests you’re from the sound village, and I hear horrible things happen to people brought to the sound.”
“No,” I said “I am leaving that place for good. It was wrong of me to ever go there.” He was going to say more, but I flashed him my sharingan and he shut up. I repeated this many times, but then Naruto stirred and his eyes fluttered open. “Morning sleepyhead,” I said…
Naruto’s POV:
His eyes, I realized, were the most beautiful things I'd ever seen: a deep shiny onyx. Then he muttered “Morning sleepyhead,” and I fell in love with his voice, too. I couldn’t help but say “morning“ in return.
In a minute I was out of his arms and we were walking holding hands. We agreed that when we got there we would stop as it might come as quite a shock.
I looked at him for about the 10th time through my new eyes, knowing I loved him…
Sasuke’s POV
There it was, he looked at me again. I knew I shouldn’t, but I love that look in his eyes. That look I could only describe as love.
I returned the look for a while, until I realized we were nearing the leaf. I didn’t want to let go. I wanted to know Naruto was mine forever.
That’s when I saw HER, and I could tell Naruto saw her, too.
Sakura’s POV:
I couldn’t believe my eyes! Not because Sasuke was back—I knew Naruto could do that, but because they were HOLDING HANDS!
Tears burned my eyes. I should have stayed with Naruto. I knew this would happen. I could see the signs, and I could have prevented it. But now not only could I not get Sasuke, but Naruto was taken as well.
I was so angry, but all I could do was stand with my mouth open and stare. They quickly put their hands behind their backs, and Naruto said, “Uh, hey Sakura,“ and he blushed!
   I know I was expecting it, but I still couldn’t believe it…
Naruto’s POV:
I can’t believe I forgot. I knew Sakura would be waiting for me, longing for my return. She had been warming up to me ever since I returned from training. But not only did I forget, I made the mistake of blushing in front of her.
“Would you believe me if I said it’s not what it looks like?“ I asked.
   “Not likely,” she replied.
   “Sakura, I…” sasuke started.
“No Sasuke, it’s OK, really. I’m fine,” Sakura cut him off.
“I know you weren’t expecting this,“ I said.
“No,“ she said, “I did.“ Then she just walked away. Leaving me confused. She expected Sasuke and I to fall in love?
I just didn’t know what to think about all of this…
Sasuke’s POV:
I wanted to apologize. I started to, but she wouldn’t let me. She told me she was all right. Then, she said she expected Naruto and I to come back a couple.
   “That was interesting,“ I said
“Yeah,“ Naruto said “we should go after her,“
“I have to get some better clothes first,“ I replied, “Itachi’s old ones should fit me by now.“
I was right. They fit perfectly, but I wasn’t sure I could handle wearing them. They made me so angry. I knew I couldn’t go after him now, though.
So we headed out to findSakura, we found her at Ino’s house, surprisingly…
Naruto’s POV:
I couldn’t believe that little squealer! She had told. Sasuke and I got to Ino‘s house and all the girls gave us looks. Most of them were angry glares, but I could swear a couple of them said “awww”. Once again I couldn’t help but blush. This intensified the looks.
In that moment I could only feel hatrid towards Sakura. “How dare you,“ I wanted to say, “you will pay for this,“ but Sasuke grabbed my arm and held me back. His touch was so calming, it was all I could do not to lean into him. He must have realized this, because he pulled his hand back.
This triggered the anger again, and I had to get away, so I ran…
Sakura’s POV:
I couldn’t help it. I had to tell someone. But Naruto and Sasuke were the only people I actually trusted. So I went to Ino’s stupid slumber party and told the people there.
I told them they would probably come after me and ask them not to stare, but they did anyway. When they did I saw the heat in Naruto‘s eyes. I didn’t like feeling that heat but I deserved it.
I wanted him to yell at me, to say hateful things. But as he was about to Sasuke held him back, but quickly let go. Naruto ran. I could tell he didn’t want to say hateful things, but I needed to hear them. So I ran after him.
I caught up to him quickly. “Say it,” I said
“How could you, Sakura,” was he crying? “We were going to keep it a secret. We didn’t want the stares.”
I felt sorry for him and knew I had done the wrong thing. I wanted to make it better, but didn’t know how. The next thing I knew I was kissing him.
He pushed me away, “No, Sakura,“ he said…
Sasuke’s POV:
Naruto left, I don’t blame him. He was very angry, but if I comforted him he would just be ridiculed more. Sakura ran after him, and I knew I shouldn’t intervene. So I stayed for the party. It was pretty fun, save for the awkward parts, like when they started talking about which guys are “hot” and which are “not” (I was of course Hot).
Anyways, Ino asked me what I thought of Neji. “Look Ino,“ I said “I don’t go around checking out every guy I see. I didn’t even expect to fall in love with Naruto, but that said he is kinda cute.“ They all giggled.
Spotter than that I enjoyed myself. We did each other‘s hair and nails, Played Truth or Dare, and just had fun. I felt real good.
I think I may have had too much fun because the next thing I knew I was waking up on Ino’s floor…
Ino’s POV:
Needless to say my dad wasn’t too happy to find a guy on my floor since I had promised it was girls only. And, since Sasuke forced all of us to swear in oath of secrecy, I couldn’t even explain that he was gay.
He actually seemed to overlook who Sasuke was. That is until he said “Wait, aren’t you the Uchiha boy who ran off a couple years ago?”
   “Yes, sir,” Sasuke replied
“Then I apologize, princess,“ he said. I knew I had to say something, he obviously thought Sasuke and I were a couple (which I had to admit flattered me). “Dad, he’s just a friend,“ I said.
“And he is welcome anytime he wants,” he said. I don’t know if he heard me or he still had the couple thing in his head, but I wasn’t in trouble and that was good for me.
Sasuke said he had to go find Naruto, which was fine with me, I had to clean…
Naruto’s POV:
She had the nerve to kiss me… Not that I didn’t sort of enjoy it, but I was with Sasuke now, and she knew that! I ran off, I had said what I needed to and I wanted to get home. There, I found Konohamaru waiting for me.
“Hey, Boss!“ He said, “is it true you found Sasuke and brought him back?“
“ Uh, yeah.“ I said, “Why are you in my apartment?“
“I wanted to wait with Sakura, but she said I couldn’t, so I came here. Then Moagi said You brought Sasuke back, and I said ‘no way.” And…
   “Konohamaru, stop!” I almost yelled.
“Gee, sorry, boss. Guess I got carried away.”
“No problem, just don’t do that. I am enough distressed already.“
   “Why?“ He had to ask.
“Don’t worry about it!“ My blushing betrayed me again.
“Oh… It must be that Sakura thing,” he muttered
   “What Sakura thing?“ I asked
“Well… Moagi saw you two kissing.” I was horrified…
Sasuke’s POV:
I went home, I needed a shower badly and I couldn’t take Ino’s father’s crooning anymore. The dude was obsessed with me! After my shower, I went through the motions of doing my hair, then I set out to Naruto’s house.
When I got there he was standing in horror staring at…um... That kid he hangs out with. “She couldn’t have seen that, because it didn’t happen,” He said
   “Seen what?“ I asked.
   “Sakura kissing Naruto”Konohamaru said.
“He’s right, that couldn’t have happened.“ I said
   “Why?“
   “Sakura hates him,”
   “I forgot you’ve been gone”
   “What’s that mean?”
   “She doesn’t hate him anymore”
   “Oh”
“But I didn’t kiss her Sasuke!” Naruto blurted out.
   “I know” Konohamaru laughed. “What?!”
“You guys are acting like a couple who’s accusing one another of cheating on them!”
“Heh, heh, heh. That is kinda funny.” Naruto covered…
Konohamaru’s POV
They were acting very suspicious. Naruto SWEARING he didn’t kiss Sakura when Moagi saw them with her own eyes. Sasuke sounding like he wants to believe him. They think I’m just a little kid who can’t put two + two together.
“No,” I said, and they looked at me, “It’s not funny, it’s REAL!”
“What are you talking about, Konohamaru?” Naruto said
“You two ARE a couple, aren’t you?”
“Don’t be crazy...um...kid, Naruto is my best friend, that would be very weird.”
“But it doesn’t stop you. I’m not blind, you know.”
“Really, Konohamaru…” Sasuke started, but Naruto cut him off “The kid’s got us figured out Sasuke.” I was shocked and overjoyed.
“I was right!” I knew it! What I didn’t expect was both of them pulling kunais to my throat.
“Say one word to anyone, and it will be your life!” Naruto growled.
“Whatever you say, Boss!” I replied, he had that look in his eyes that I knew not to challenge…
Kakashi’s POV:
I was walking down the streets of Konoha enjoying the beautiful day. For no particular reason I was walking by Naruto‘s house. I had heard word of his return. Even rumors of him bringing Sasuke back, but I knew those were only rumors.
I heard little Konohamaru exclaim from inside “I knew it!“ I wondered what he knew. It couldn’t be that Naruto was back, everyone knew that. So I decided to wait and ask, but he wouldn’t talk. If there was a secret afoot I knew who to go to.
It’s very shameful but I can get anything out of Sakura very easily. So I invited her over for tea. She wouldn’t talk either. So I quickly pulled back my mask and kissed her. (I know, I’m horrible.) Amazingly she still wouldn’t talk. Said she’d already caused enough trouble with this secret.
And so I decided to trail Naruto for a few days. He spent most of his time with Sasuke I noticed… Then it hit me, Sasuke was back! I had to say hi.
But when they saw me coming, they ran.
Naruto’s POV:
He was following us! I couldn’t believe it! Konohamaru had said he was asking questions, but I didn’t think he would follow us. And because of this we couldn’t do anything. I mean nothing, we couldn’t even discreatly hold hands. He was watching us like a hawk.
Then one day he started walking toward us, so we ran. It would have been easier to play it cool and talk to him but we panicked. He stopped following us. I told Sasuke we needed to stop spending all our time together, “It looks a little suspicious,” I said.
He didn’t want to separate of course, he said he just got me and he didn’t want to lose me so easily, but I convinced him.
Sasuke’s POV:
I hate Kakashi! That felt good so I’ll say it again. I hate Kakashi! I hate him, I hate him, I HATE KAKASHI!!! I know, I know, I sound like a little kid, but Kakashi made me and Naruto separate. I didn’t want to, it was Naruto‘s Idea. And now I was lonely.
The first day of separation I went on a walk with Sakura. This proved to be very awkward. We really didn’t say much. So I decided to go see what Shika was up to. But of course I got nowhere with that because he was with Temari.
I was starting to get really discouraged, and I didn’t like it.
Naruto’s POV:
I missed him. It was getting so painful. I needed to see him, but knew I couldn’t. I called him up and asked him to meet me on top of the Academie. “Yes!” he said, overjoyed.
When we got there he asked, “What’s up?” “I don’t care anymore, Sasuke,” I said, “I don’t care if people know. It only hurts us more if they don’t.“
I kissed him there, where the whole village could see.
The End

My Two Cents on Female Characters in Animated Television Shows
Recently, while discussing my disappointment with the lack of development for the girls in My Hero Academia, I received a rather pointed response that accused me of not caring about female characters at all. This couldn’t be further from the truth, as often girl characters are usually some of my favorites in most shows, but where I think this person got confused is that they mistook my criticisms for contempt. You can criticize something without disliking it. Although I laughed and rolled my eyes at the accusation being the staunch feminist that I am, I figured it was a worthwhile topic to discuss: the portrayal and characterization of female characters in media. Particularly, animated television products.
Even though I wasn’t alive at the time, let’s rewind the clock back to the 1980s. During this decade, most animated television series were more focused on selling toys to go with the product than telling a good story, and this was also the time when gendered products exploded. Boys watched He-Man, G.I. Joe, and Transformers. Girls watched My Little Pony, the Care Bears, and Jem and the Holograms. The biggest shows usually had a gender division, though there were some shows that catered to children as a whole. What we usually got out of the boy shows is a cast almost exclusively male with maybe one or two female characters, such as with the 80s Voltron series were Allura was the only female character on the side of good. Likewise with girl oriented shows, most of the cast was girls with only a small handful of boys, though the Care Bears was an outlier due to having a rather fine mix of the two. During this era, if a girl was on the team, she usually didn’t do much. She was the damsel to be saved or the love interest to be smooth talked. She rarely had much more personality than “is a girl”. They were just kind of cookie cutter stereotypes who existed to be saved and supported by the real heroes. Some shows however did focus on strong warrior women such as She-Ra and Spider-woman. However, both of these were female spin-offs of boy shows and were again gendered products aimed only at female viewers.
The 1990s saw the emergence of shows with female leads that weren’t necessarily aimed exclusively at girls, but more often than not, it was more of a case of shows aimed at girls that just happened to attract a male audience. This happened with shows like The Powerpuff Girls or Daria, with Daria being a spin-off of Beavis and Butthead created to give MTV a female icon to draw viewership, as well as serving as a feminist icon and a voice of the disaffected nihilism of 90s teens. Shows aimed at a broader audience like Recess, The Magic School Bus, and Captain Planet started a trend of including more female characters, but it was still very common for the ratio to be tipped in favor of male characters. And this trope still remains at large to this day. This ratio is usually about 3:2 or 2:1 in a smaller group. Unless it’s aimed at girls or designed specifically to appeal to both genders, most products have more boy than girl characters.
Now with the 2000s, this is when my earliest childhood memories come back to me, and it’s the girls from this era of media that turned me into a feminist. I grew up on shows like Teen Titans, Avatar the Last Airbender, Kim Possible, and Totally Spies. This is when I would argue girl characters were really starting to really leap out and become actual people, though there were shades of this in the 90s as well. They were far more deep and complex than girl characters were in earlier media. Katara was still a maternal figure and a healer, but she had pride, a temper, and could be bossy. Starfire was a beautiful alien princess, but she was a warrior princess who was just as good in a fight if not better than her male teammates. Kim Possible was a super popular cheerleader, but she was also an honor roll student and a kick ass secret agent who retained her humbleness about it most of the time. While Clover was totally boy-crazy and fashion obsessed, she was balanced out by the academic Sam and the sporty Alex, and all three spies had episodes where they were the one saving the day and figuring out the problem. Fortunately, the 2010s have continued this trend of fleshed-out female characters, as shows have allowed female characters to exceed the normal parameters or expectations of their genders to treat them more like people, such as Flame Princess in Adventure Time donning very traditionally masculine clothing when she raps, both of which are not stereotypically feminine.
However, where Western Animation has progressed greatly, Shonen Anime has fallen majorly by the wayside. A common criticism of Naruto is that Sakura spent most of the time standing around doing nothing, and this sadly applies to all of the women. Kurenai is a Jonin level ninja, but she’s only ever shown in a single fight against Itachi and Kisame where she uses exactly one technique, and it’s used to show off how strong and cool Itachi is because he could counter her illusions with his own. Hinata is driven to become stronger due to being inspired by Naruto, but barely gets any screen time or skill improvement, and her only notable fight in part II is against Pain where it was a vehicle for her confessing her feelings for Naruto, and then triggering Naruto’s 6 tailed form so that Naruto could win the fight. Heck, Ino was standing ten feet away from the wanted terrorists that killed her teacher and she did nothing the entire fight. It’s not like she had mind control powers that would have been useful or anything. Sure the arc was for Shikamaru’s character growth, but even Choji did something and Choji sucks. And Tenten... Well she doesn’t matter. You could literally replace her with a lamp and nobody would be able to tell the difference. She’s just there because every squad must have a girl character.
So, now it’s time for the big feelings ouchie word: Strong Female Character. When people hear this they assume it means a character like Calhoun in Wreck-It Ralph, that tough as nails no bs cranky type of female who don’t need no man and yes, Calhoun is a Strong Female Character. And so is Katara. And Sadie Miller in Steven Universe. And Quinn Morgendorfer from Daria. Being a Strong Female Character isn’t about being tough or being a walking tank. Strong Female Characters simply have strong characterization. They’re well-constructed. Katara lost her mother when she was young and she had to take on her mother’s responsibilities, causing her to become very mature at a young age and to feel like anyone in need of help should get it because that’s her ‘job’ in a sense. Taking care of others is what she’s done since she lost her mother, it’s become her identity, and she could never reject that self-appointed duty without losing who she is as a person. Raven from Teen Titans pushes people away because she’s destined to destroy the world, and she hates herself for what she was created to do. She views herself as a living curse, and she doesn’t want to let people get close to her because it’ll hurt that much more when she has to fulfill her destiny and hurt the people that she cares about. Sadie Miller has only ever poofed one corrupted gem, but there’s a clear personality at play. She has low self-esteem and puts up with people telling her what to do because she’s a pleaser. She likes to make other people happy. Quinn is as classic girly girl as you can get. She’s shallow, vain, and bows to peer pressure. However, she voices that she doesn’t always like having to be like this, but that if she didn’t, she wouldn’t have anything in common with her friends. She’d rather be a shell of her real self surrounded by friends than her true self and alone. As Daria points out, Quinn wears superficiality like a suit of armor because she’s afraid of looking inside and finding nothing. But in later seasons, she begins to embrace the things that make her stand out by becoming more openly invested in her studies regardless of what it makes people think of her, and honestly, nobody really cares. A Strong Female Character doesn’t have to lead an army to be strong, she just has to be a fully defined person. So, now let’s bring the discussion full circle back to My Hero Academia. Earlier I mentioned the standard 3:2 ratio for larger groups. That is to say, if there’s an odd number of main characters, expect one extra boy for every boy-girl set. Too bad in My Hero Academia, it’s a 2:1 ratio of 14 boys and 6 girls. That’s 30% of the class size. They barely make up 1/4 of the class. And of those six maybe three of them have strong personalities. Tsuyu Asui, Momo Yaoyorozu, and Mina Ashido all have very distinct personalities, stand out in the class, and and have been given noteworthy character traits. Tsu tends to favor logic over emotion but doesn’t always like that this is her go-to response because she’s afraid people will think she’s heartless. Momo has high expectations for herself, and had a whole arc dedicated to her disappointment from the tournament arc. And Mina has a clearly defined personality, flaws, and tends to speak the most of the girls in the class. While Jiro’s not necessarily flat, we know less about her than the other girls. Uraraka’s character is so fixated on being the cute love interest that she doesn’t have any other personality traits. And Hakagure’s only real gimmick is that she’s invisible, but other than that is just a stereotypical girl. There’s nothing wrong with a female character not being a central figure in the narrative. What is wrong is when female characters are left to being window dressing. Jiro’s parents are both musicians and Jiro seems to like music too so why is she trying to be a hero? We know next to nothing about Hagakure. Sure, there are boy characters we don’t know very well either. Shoji, Koda, Sato, and Aoyama are still largely underdeveloped. But see, it’s problematic not only because the ratio is so heavily slanted, but because the girls that need character development don’t get much screen time. Uraraka has used the disarming training she got from her internship a few times, but that’s not a personality or a character development. And what happened when she went to the Yakuza secret hideout? She got left outside with the rest of the girls while most of the plot happened inside with the boys. Heck, Nejire who is part of the Big Three, we saw the backstories and training for both Mirio and Tamaki, but Nejire was just sort of ... present. She wasn’t given a character. Now, does that mean that I hate the girls in My Hero Academia? Of course not! Tsu is one of my favorite characters, and I like Jiro. She’s cool. But that doesn’t mean that I’m happy with the level of development and focus they’ve gotten. They’re characters too and they should be allowed to be more fleshed out in the story.

Game Night
Tumblr media
Author: Laura(me)
Warnings: Suggestive ig. Swearing, nerds being nerds. Lots of Gay.
Pairing(s): Sasuke/Naruto(Sasunaru).
Synopsis: Naruto has a lot of things he’d like to avoid, and as hard as he tries. He just can’t avoid some.
______
Somehow his mom had convinced him to come to this stupid game night, Kakashi-sensei was throwing at the academy. Naruto inwardly groaned as he thought about the torture to come, Sasuke would inevitably win all the games Kakashi didn't participate in. With that smug smirk and dark hooded eyes. Naruto shook his head, his orange and black snapback shaking slightly. He adjusted it so that the bill was in the back, his longish blonde hair poking out from underneath and hiding his blue eyes. He slipped his ear buds in as he walked along the sidewalk, his cream hoodie and dark green jacket with red accents perfect for the fall evening weather. His jeans made slight swishing noises as he continued the two city blocks to the academy.
"Hey Loser! Wait up!," The shout came from behind him. Naruto was considering ignoring the jerk, but instead turned around and pulled one earbud out.
"What do you want Sasuke?" Naruto snapped, impatient with the raven haired boy approaching him.
"I figured it wouldn't hurt to walk with you," He smirked at Naruto, his cocky expression always present. He had pushed up the sleeves of his black leather jacket and purple hoodie, with the gray shirt tails of a button down sneaking out from underneath. Sasuke pulled his hood up over his lavender baseball cap, attempting to hide his somehow effortlessly perfect behead, which shade matched his laminated blue-black jeans.
"You excited for me to kick your ass?" The taller boy whispered in the ear unoccupied by an earbud, shoving his hands into his pockets. Naruto jumped surprised by his sudden closeness.
"Uhmmm, what are you talking about? You know I'm only coming cause my mom made me."
Sasuke made a sympathetic face,
"I can practically stand my mom. All she ever talks about is me getting a boyfriend, I mean since she learned I'm gay. I swear, she's more obnoxious than Itachi constantly knowing everything."
"Hmmm, must be pretty bad. Itachi's such a know it all," Naruto muses.
"You come out to your parents yet?" He asks nonchalantly.
"Yeah, they accepted it pretty easily, my mom is now just glad she can talk to me about hot male celebrities,"
"Who's your favorite?"
"Tom Holland," Naruto says, now picking his nails as they slow down, prolonging this moment of comfort in each others presence.
"Ugh, Hiddleston," He wrinkles his face up at the thought of Holland. Just as he says this, they round the corner to their high school. They walk in the doors and check into the booth, run by a couple of fellow juniors. Sakura and Ino, and of course they both start obsessing over Sasuke, mainly because nobody but Naruto and his family knows that Sasuke is gay, despite the blonde being openly Pan Sexual.
He nods to them and then moves on, he quickly follows. they walk in to find Iruka-Sensei running Just Dance. They simply share a glance, and Naruto pulls his earbuds out and wraps them up.  They simultaneously step in line next to each other.
"Hey Naruto!," Naruto turns and sees his best friend Kiba, running towards us. Sasuke makes a  displeased noise, and the shorter boy elbows him hard, shooting him a firm glare.
Naruto's POV
" Sakura looks great tonight! Did you see her?" Kiba gasps like a fish, I hold my hands out palms facing towards him.
"Whoa slow down there Kiba, take a few breathes, don't die on me," I say laughing softly at his words, and mentally wondering what he brought it up.
"Yeah, but all she talks about is Sasuke," Kiba groans, standing up, and puts his face in his hands, dramatically pulling at the strings of his blue sweatshirt. He turns to look at Sasuke, with a woeful expression pulling at his face, "You're soooo lucky, you know that?"
Sasuke suddenly bursts out laughing, hard. Harder than I've ever heard him laugh in all my years of knowing the jerk. Laughing so hard it catches everyone's attention. Laughing so hard that he starts wheezing. He bends over holding his stomach, and I can't suppress a giggle, which soon turns into to full out laughing. I'm now wheezing, clutching my stomach.
Sasuke and I lean into one another gasping for air, between bursts of laughter. HIs hands grip my waist as he leans into my chest, his body shaking with laughter, gasping for lost breath. I lean into his touch, finally starting to calm down.
"What's so funny guys?" Kiba asks, peering curiously out of his sweatshirt, suspicion painting every feature on his face. Sasuke leans in close to Kiba, and whispers,
"Can you keep a secret?,"
I lean nonchalantly on Sasuke's shoulder, smiling softly at Kiba.
"Yeah, you bet I can." Kiba replies, brushing Sasuke's hand off. Crossing his arms. Sasuke glances at me, and I grin, imagining what Kiba will say once he hears.
"Kiba..."
"Yeah?"
"I'm gay...," Sasuke waits a moment for this to sink into to Kiba's brain. When it does Kiba's eyes get really wide and he burst out laughing.
"Do you see why it was funny now?" I chuckle, cocking my head at Kiba.
"Yeah. Also, you know that you two would make a really cute couple now that I think about it. Like realllyyyy cute."
"That's out of the question," I say firmly, removing elbow from Sasuke's shoulder, turning away from the both of them.
"Oh Princess, don't be like that," A voice coos in my ear, pale muscular arms winding around my small waist. Pressing me into a rock solid muscular chest. Everything fades away... except for Sasuke. His presence is sending my heart pounding in my ears, his smell, his voice the only thing surrounding me. I instantly panic and step on his foot and elbow him in the sternum, He catches my elbow as I turn, and raises his eyebrows slightly.
"What was that for?" He asks, trying to hide his disappointment at my reaction, " Am I really that far into the friendzone?"
" Honestly Sasuke, you're not in the friendzone by a mile," I whisper, shocked by whatever compelled me to say these words in front of him. He smirks and leans closer to my face, teasing me,
"What was that Na-ru-to? I couldn't hear you." His says loud and clear, I suddenly remember Kiba. I turn to him, and can't help but chuckle at the slack jaw. Clearly shocked by the sudden tension between Sasuke and I. Electricity is crackling, ready to strike. But I'm not ready, not ready to admit that I'm gay for Sasuke and have been for years so, I won't. I glance at the line, and realize that we only have two people in front of us. I pull out my phone, ignoring Sasuke's smug smirk. And realize that I have thirty-two text messages, and ten missed phone calls. All from my mother. I glance at the time on my phone, and my blood runs cold. It's ten twenty-two.
"Shit!," I swear.
"What?!" Kiba and Sasuke, look at me concerned.
"I was supposed to be home by ten, shitshitshitshitshit!" I ramble, shoving my phone in my pocket and grabbing Sasuke by the arm.
"Bye Kiba!," I yell over my shoulder as I drag a dead weight Sasuke behind me out the door.
"Bye Sasuke!" A chorus of girls cheer in a sing-song voice as we pass them outside the school.
"Whoa, slow down Blondie," Sasuke says behind me, twisting his wrist out of my hand, and grabbing my belt loop. Forcing me to stop.
"I'm soooo late my moms gonna kill me!" I panic, and shake my head at him. My earbuds jangling against my thigh. I look up and see Sasuke's calling someone on the phone.
"Who are you calling?" I say in distress.
" Your mom," He says in a bland tone. Then continues, "Hi, It's Sasuke... yes, it's my fault Naruto is late. I made him stay with me... no but thank you... yes, you too. See you tomorrow... okay, bye," He hangs up and slips his phone back into his pocket on the darkened street corner. In the streams of moonlight, Sasuke is gorgeous, his hair casting shadows on his narrow face. His skin turned silver by the bleached light. He leans in and looks at me, then glances at my lips, and I know what comes next. Normally, under any other circumstance, I would stop him. Go home, shut him out. Get some sleep. But he looks so good right now I'm dying, and the electricity I felt earlier could put power wires to shame right now. So I give in, I caress those pale soft lips with my own. I give in and slide my hands into his hair underneath his hood. I give in and part my lips. I give in, and honestly, it's about damn time.
