I'm so obsessed with Sakura and Sai as a concept because you know Sakura is the most affectionate person. She tells her friends she loves them nonstop and holds their hands and jumps on their back without warning and likes to cuddle and picks them up all the time. And Sai loves her even if he doesn't really know that means or how to go about it so he just lets her do whatever she wants. If she wants a piggyback? Sure he doesn't get it but he'll carry her. If she wants to hold his hand she can do that. The first time he takes her hand without prompting she almost cries.

But it kinda messes him up because he just kinda assumes that's what he should do and then he Also becomes the type to tell people he just met he loves them.

Basically? Sai is just a limp little beanstalk and lets Sakura hang off him like a koala or pick him up even if it looks ridiculous because he's like a foot taller than her and their dynamic is so dear to me

I have so many fic ideas and nothing to show for it so here's an itemized list of things I want to write where most of them are about Sai because I'm obsessed with my zero vibe blorbo:

Road To Ninja au [probably'll be a series]

Sai - centric, as always, but mostly because I want to explore a world where Sai's father is alive and his mother cares about him. Of course, in a way that hurts his growth as a person and emotionally stunts him because it has to be canon connected in some way of course!

Also seeing a Shin-Sai sibling rivalry is intriging to me.

Blue Period au [either a longfic or a series]

Yes, also Sai - centric. At first this started out as an Art Club au but I think Blue Period au fits better. Just... high school student Sai who doesn't know what he wants to do when he's older and always has trouble properly fitting in stumbles into art club and rediscovers his love for art. This could be a main story to my modern au too, specifically after the horrible accident that fucks up Shin's organs and makes Sai lose his memory.

T4T Choji / Sai [oneshot]

After the war, Sai is stressed and Yamato sees this so he calls his little sister and they go on a trip around the world to see new places and such, I just think they'd be a neat pair.

Modern au [series]

Root kid - centric, it was at first made as a fluffy au where Kabuto, Urushi, Sai, and Shin were fostered by Nonou (Kabuto and Urushi came first and then Sai and Shin were adopted when Urushi and Kabuto were in high school so they're close but they're like two pairs of siblings living together), and ROOT is just the super secret treehouse group they made when they were younger or smthing, you know how kids are.

I like the concepts and the main plot of the show, but I hate the directors, writers, and overall how they carried out the show but I'll scrape it to it's bare bones and make my own Miraculous au

Neji, Sasuke, and Sai are all ppl who were repressed and then rebelled against a hurtful system that they were born and groomed into in canon, with Neji and his self - finding journey, Sasuke with his villain arc, and Sai actively rebelling against ROOT customs. So, ot3, they should kiss and piss off their parents

Silly Hallmark Christmas Fic [oneshot]

Sasuke, being a drama queen, decides to bring the son of the Uchiha's sworn enemy to Christmas dinner. Sai is in it for the drama because he's also a little shit that hates Danzō for his brother's death, and what better to piss of his foster grandpa than to fake date and go to Christmas dinner with his sworn enemies son?

Nonou would post about her kiddos on facebook to share because she loves them

Kabuto would have social media only to keep a portfolio / resume but also to be annoying sometimes and also to have public beef with Anko because she couldn't have his sensei so apparently she's going for his mom

Urushi would be in it to post encouraging messages for his siblings and his blog is full of just him doing fun things with friends

Shin would enjoy just being there to post things he can't say in the moment but people find his weird life funny

Sai runs an entire art student portfolio / blog aesthetic because he enjoys having the coolest twitter [this is modern au Sai, canon Sai wouldn't even change his header]

Fuu also likes just regular posting but most of his blog is dedicated to family gossip / beef so he's got the highest following

Torune has a bug blog to interact with his family who also have bug blogs in which they make a small bug fandom

This pair is not a crack ship! Crack would mean they have not shared more than two words with each other. But SaiSaku interactions always bordered on romance and best friends who don't act like it. Not only Sakura was the first person to acknowledge Sai had human side to him and bonded with him over his painting, Sai was also the only person outside Sasuke (in part 1) to be able tell her fake smiles and he always understood her feelings better than other characters. Had Sakura ever only cared for good looks (something she don't) then with Sai she'd get that and so much more.

I have always considered SaiSaku as the next best thing after NaruSaku. They had too much potential as a couple. I am not bitter that InoSai became a thing but looking at them I only feel that "Ino didn't get Sasuke so she get his look-alike." Besides, Sai gave people nicknames that are opposites to what actually feels about them – Naruto as Dickless, Sakura as Hag/Ugly and Ino as Beautiful – which makes it worse. Both Ino and Sai deserve better than this. If Kishi has shown them together more often or had interactions between them similar to SaiSaku then I can understand why Ino is his light. I guess it is also SP's fault for showing them in different light. For all SP hates Sakura, they enjoy messing up with her fans by feeding them false hope.

Whenever I want to read something hilarious but deep, SaiSaku is my to-go couple. Usually angsty, or full bout of insults and punches. There's no in between with them.

A small little ficlet I wrote for a prompt in a Sakura Haruno discord group I'm in.

Title: Colors Prompt: Hollow

They couldn't have picked a more perfect day for a wedding Sai mused as he stood off to the side of the veranda with Naruto and Kakashi. Blue skies, brilliant green grass, white chairs lined with white lillies filled with the various faces and colors of all their friends. It was the greatest artestic poetic justice for Sakura to get married on a day that was the literal embodiment of her name sake. It's hard to believe that a few years ago he wouldn't have been able to see the beauty in such a simple setting. He reminisced. Just a few years ago his entire world was comprised of black and white. Right and wrong. Love and hate. There was no in between. No balance and though he didn't know it at the time it was a lonely hollow existence. But being in root did that to a person. People are easier to control, easier to manipulate if they are one of two in their own little black and white world. His first true experience of color came in the form of green. Blazing green to be exact. The bright firey green that Sakura's eyes turned when she faced him fist pulled back and flying towards his face. He'd never forget that particular shade for the rest of his days, the brilliant shade of chartreuse green the color he had come to associate with anger and consequently the last color he saw before he found himself out cold. He would soon come to realize that that color would become his favorite color at least for the time being. Slowly as his bonds with team Kakashi grew his world filled with wonderful colors of all shades and hues. The bright tuscany yellow that was Naruto's grin. The warm cinnamon of friendship that was bonding over a bag of shared chips with Choji after a particularly hard mission. The bushy inky-ness of Gai-Sensei's eyebrows as they ran laps in the evening sunset. The comforting cloud silver that was relaxing next to Kakashi-taichou reading a good book under a nice shady tree.

Little by little his world filled with a myriad of colors of light, laughter and eventually love. If he thought chartreuse green was his favorite green it was nothing compared to the breath taking basil that Sakura's eyes darkened to or the blossoming of carnations against her ivory skin as they explored and learned what felt good together. It was humbling knowing that she trusted him, possibly even loved him enough to let him see her at her most vulnerable. Not as the firey warrior kunochi but as a woman, soft and gentle just for him. She taught him how to physically love as a man and he taught her the beauty of the pale scars of hard work littering her body. Each passing day his world became bigger a little less hollow. There was no longer just black and white, right and wrong, hate and love. There were now shades of everything in between. Being with Sakura also taught him that two people could love each other but not be in love with each other. It was a hard lesson to learn but it really didn't sink in until his world exploded in shades of maya blues and chiffon yellows. And when he told Sakura she smiled and congratulated him and wished him well. It wouldn't be until much later at his own wedding when his world was no longer a hollow void that he would realize the color of heartbreak was that of damp moss. And one by one as each of their friends got married, settled down, started lives together and even, in Naruto's case suprisingly, started families he became all too familiar with that particular shade.

And how with each passing happy moment her eyes grew a little less bright and a little more hollow. Even now as she walked down the isle smiling brilliantly for those gathered for her special occasion. Even as she gazed seemingly lovingly into the eyes of some unknown beau that they just met perhaps a month ago courtesy of her parents. Even as she said her vows and blushed prettily the perfect picture perfect blushing bride. He knew. Sai could see the hollow moss of her eyes and he wondered how long it would take until her world was just as empty.
