What's your favorite Sai pairing?
Aaaah I have to say I'm such a multishipper at heart, I love so many of them haha ❤️
My personal fav is narusai 🫶 their opposite personalities is a really fun dynamic and I have such a soft spot for the development their relationship went through, how it started off so antagonistic and ended up as such a genuine friendship where they really care for each other 🥲 I also have a lot of feelings about Sai saying he can tell that Naruto loves Sakura bc he's always smiling around her, while Sai is always smiling around/because of Naruto.... and the moments where he steps in to protect him with Sasuke and with Karui (the latter especially bc of the way he stands in front of him, and then patches up his injuries afterwards) I have such a weakness for that as a romantic trope jskjfasdjks
I like inosai too, but its hard for me to have as strong an opinion on them bc there really is no development at all in the manga? They only speak to each other once and then are suddenly married in the epilogue lmao. It seems like their storyline takes place in the novels and Boruto though, and I have no interest in reading those unfortunately... But I really like that whenever I see screencaps of them from Boruto they seem to have a happy relationship. Sai deserves that 🥹
Saisaku also had some cute moments, like when he blushed at her in the library. Two very rare Sai ships I'd love to see more of are Sai/Lee and Sai/Kankuro too, bc he had a fun dynamic with both of them during the war. Lee being like "please continue to draw your tigers without fear... I will protect you!!! 🏋️" always makes me giggle jsdfjgs

Your thoughts about saisaku?
Oooo heck yeah
Tumblr media
Just looking at their canon or filler moments, fanarts and whatnots give me so many feelings atm and I'm like : wow, cute 😳!!
I have different views on what kind of relationship every Sakura is pair with in my head actually... I don't know deeply about SaiSaku, but to put it simply, they imo is the kind to playfully bickers— Sai make awful jokes with fake smile on his face while Sakura can't stand it, get riled up easily. But when it turn the other way around that she's the one who give him the fake expression instead, he sure hate it a whole lot.
I also have a tiny bit of headcanon 👉👈 that he wears serious look when he draws bunch of portrait of her secretly whenever she's not around looking.

Will be not posting any artworks today so have this instead;(more like a rant)
Why Do I Ship Sasuino & Gaasaku?
It's more likely because of the reason 'If ino can change sai then she can change sasuke' and have been shipping them since i started watching naruto when i was young, back then i Ship them because of their clothing colors lol i mean purple + blue is cool. Plus i still think their child would be strong and handsome/pretty.
And now to gaasaku... Have no reason lol i literally just ship them because of red + pink is cute😆 oh and probably because gaara is single at boruto (along with his yee yee ass haircut 😭😭).
GAARA'S HAIR DRAMA
THIS. THIS CRAP IS THE ONLY THING I WOULDN'T ACCEPT IN BORUTO- WHY YOU GOTTA DO GAARA LIKE THAT KISHIMOTO-🖐🏻😭😭😭 HIS PAST HAIR IS SO GORGEOUS LIKE WHY YYYYYY?????!!???
Drama
i see a lot on Tweeter saying people ship sasuino/sasukarin/sasuhina because they hate Sakura.. I don't get it?
I like sakura from the very start too but i rather ship her to gaara or naruto than sasuke (yes kind of ship sasusaku but not a fan) I respect all of the ship in naruto but why attack sakura tho? How much I'm a very very big fan of Sasuino i ship the canon because they do make sense. But please sasusaku fans don't go attacking sasuino with 'at least ours are canon' 'Sasuke doesn't give a fck about ino lmao' sht. If a sasuino fan doesn't bother you and your ship don't bother us...
Edit[ Sometimes sasuino fans kind of start the chaos too which where i will say just enjoy our own ship than bother the canon, we can all enjoy our Au's!]
About sasuhina tho... why did you ship them🖐🏻😭 yeah yeah ik there child would be strong and look cool but like sasukarin and sasuino make sense more than them- I'm not attacking the ship i just really wanna know when did the ship started? because i was 13 when i found out the ship exist👀 (kinda like the sasuhina fanarts tho-)
Now Sasusaku fans don't go around saying they hate sakura just because they ship sasuino/sasukarin/sasuhina... they literally might think the ship is cute plus yours already canon right? how the hell they will destroy a canon ship lmao- Oh plus narusasu stands out more👊🏻😤 (literally 90% of people watching naruto ship them-)
oh wanted to say don't compare the characters they good and beautiful on their own🤲🏻 plus have different contribution to the plot which is kind of important too👐🏻
(You can compare Danzo tho like i hate that btch so much😤)
My Main ship's;
Sasuino
Gaasaku
Naruhina
Nejiten
Shikatem
SuiKarin or Saikarin (i know sai x karin seems weird but if I'm going to give ino to sasuke might as well give sai a wife- their marriage can be like how choji met his wife)
Ship's I Support;
Narusaku
Sasusaku
Gaaino (im a fan of both ino and gaara-)
Narusasu (Sees this ship almost everywhere-)
SaiIno
Naruino (both blondie so-👀)
Inosaku (yes. i ship them. i mean ino looks like a simp for sakura lol-)
Ship's i found out exist, not supporting but i respect;
Sasuhina
Sasukarin
NaruKarin
Saisaku
KakaSaku (eyo wut-)
Itasaku
Itasasu (SWEET HOME ALABAMA-)
Thank you for listening (READING) to me🤲🏻

5. "Wait a minute... are you jealous?"
KakaSaku or SaiSaku?
kakasaku OR saisaku??? orrrr both???? let’s do both
-
It had started innocently enough. Sakura and the girls were enjoying a nice soak in the baths, chatting and catching up, spilling the newest, hottest gossip and sharing general life updates. When Tenten shared a particularly juicy exploit, Ino’s spirit had been so overwhelmed with titillating scandal that she simply could not remain submerged any longer.
That’s when Sakura saw the sunflower scrawled across her skin, curving around her breast, dainty and yellow and so cute, and so not something that was there the last time Sakura saw Ino naked. It was a more frequent occurrence than she cared to admit.
“What the hell is that?!” she demanded, grabbing Ino by the arm and ogling her side-boob shamelessly.
“Geez, Forehead, grope much?” Ino complained, pulling her arm out of Sakura’s death grip. “It’s just a tattoo,” she said, scowling at Sakura.
“When—how—why?” Sakura stuttered, lifting Ino’s arm again to get a good look. At Sakura’s flailing, all the girls grew interested, approaching Ino to get a peek themselves. Ino rolled her eyes but Sakura knew she enjoyed the attention.
“Sai did it for me,” she said with a smile. “Look!” she held her arm up of her own volition and then Sakura watched as chakra flowed through the lines in her skin before the sunflower petals started languidly spinning, and the flower tilted gently from side-to-side as if it were searching for the sun.
“So cute!” Hinata cooed, sticking her face in Ino’s armpit to get a closer look.
“I want one!” Tenten whined, sticking her face beside Hinata’s, and leaving Sakura standing off to the side fuming.
It wasn’t so much that Ino had gotten a little, permanent piece of art from Sai on her body, but that she hadn’t even known Sai could do that. And why hadn’t he offered that to her? He was always giving her his sketches and paintings, and she was always happy to receive them.
It was just a stupid little flower, she told herself. Did she even want a tattoo? She had her Byakugou seal, and her ANBU tattoo, but was she even interested in having something else on her body? She told herself that if she had never considered it before, then the answer must be no. Placated, she finally dropped her attitude toward Ino. Even if it had taken her about a week to come to that conclusion.
So, attitude dropped, she carried on with her life. That was, until she was sparring with Naruto under the summer heat, and she saw what he was sporting on his bare chest.
“What is that?!” she demanded, jabbing her finger into his sweaty skin hard enough to make him yelp.
“Ow, Sakura-chan!” he whined loudly, recoiling from her finger. She glared at him without an ounce of remorse. “It’s a fox,” he said with a pout, rubbing at the offending inked skin. She could see it was a fox; fierce and baring its teeth and snarling across his right peck.
“Did Sai do that?” she asked, though it was a rhetorical question. Naruto looked scared to answer, but the longer she glared at him the more nervous he became. He had apparently decided he was in more trouble if he remained silent, which was definitely a new one for him.
“Yeah…” he said timidly before a grin broke out on his face. “Look!” His chest puffed up with pride and then chakra flowed through the ink before the fox on his chest was snapping its jaw and baring its claws. Sakura growled with the ferocity of the fox as she stalked away from him and their spar. “Sakura-chan! Wait for me!” he wailed.
She did not.
Sakura could maybe believe that Sai had been seduced into decorating Ino with a tiny flower and had not seen fit to tell her about it. But Naruto? Why would Naruto get something so personal and special, but not her? They were all on the same team, and she thought she and Sai were friends. She certainly spent enough time explaining the intricacies of friendship to him for the title to be warranted, she thought.
She decided to address the problem at the root, and just ask Sai what was going on. Maybe he’d be waiting for her with his brushes out, and some extravagant design planned out for her. Maybe he had been using Naruto and Ino as practice to make sure he got hers right.
What she found when she let herself into his apartment was absolutely not that.
“What is this?!” she cried, pointing in accusation as Sai held a paintbrush to Sasuke’s skin, intently focused on the black lines that curved around Sasuke’s arm from his wrist and all the way up his shoulder toward his neck.
“A snake,” Sasuke answered coolly, casting a bored glace her way before returning his gaze to Sai’s work.
“I can see that,” she growled. “Why is everyone getting tattoos but me?” she whined, feeling a little bratty as she did it, but too far gone to stop herself. “Sai!” she cried when neither man answered her. Sai sighed and bowed his head, finishing off a line before raising his eyes to her at last.
“Hmm,” he hummed thoughtfully, considering her closely. “Are you jealous, Sakura?” he asked, his mouth downturned in a confused frown.
“No,” she said, even though she was absolutely, undeniably teeming with jealousy.
“This seems like jealousy. I’ve read about that one a lot,” he said conversationally before returning to the snake wrapped around Sasuke’s arm.
“I’m not jealous!” she snapped. Sasuke scoffed and Sai hummed thoughtfully as all his attention was sapped away from her and into his work. She silently sat herself into a chair across from them and seethed as quietly as possible just to prove how not jealous she was, not that either of them really cared.
The longer she sat there staring, the more she had to grudgingly admire the elegant lines that travelled up Sasuke’s arm. Smooth and rounded, a perfect juxtaposition against the sinewy muscles they travelled, and stark black against Sasuke’s fair skin. Goddammit, it’s beautiful, she thought as she slipped further into her envy.
Sai seemed to finish it off pretty quickly, not that she really knew how long it took, because she had been completely enraptured with the process. Before she knew it, the snake’s head was drawn, its teeth bared and reaching for Sasuke’s neck. Then, Sai formed the seals with his hands and pressed his chakra into the ink, and Sakura watched as it settled into Sasuke’s skin instead of sitting on top of it, and then finally, as the snake started writhing, slithering across Sasuke’s chest, around his neck, down his arm and then back up it again to settle in its original position.
Sai looked very pleased with himself, and Sasuke looked about as pleased as he ever looked, and the only person in the room who wasn’t being the least bit pleasant was Sakura. All the pretty drawings in the world could not wipe the scowl off her face.
“Still jealous?” Sai asked innocently enough, though all it did was enrage her further.
“Why did you do one for Naruto, and Sasuke, and Ino, but not me?” she asked, feeling like a petulant child as she stomped her foot and pouted.
“I didn’t think you’d be interested,” he said with a calm smile and a small shrug.
“I’m interested!” she cried. “I would have liked the option, at least! I thought we were friends,” she said, her pout deepening as Sai met her ire with an innocent cluelessness.
“We are,” he said with another sweet smile. She wanted to thump him over the head.
“Then why didn’t you offer to do me!” she complained.
“Sakura,” Sasuke intervened, sounding beyond exhausted with her. She turned her pout to him instead. “You are a control freak,” he stated simply and she balked.
“I am not!”
“Yes, you are,” Sai said happily as he packed away his ink and brushes.
“I—I can let go! I can be out of control!”
“The only thing out of control right now is how jealous you are,” Sasuke said as he shrugged into his shirt.
“I knew she was jealous,” Sai said with a joyous smile and creased eyes, and gods, she wanted to thump him.
“I am not jealous! I am not a control freak! And I want a tattoo!” she demanded.
“This is your problem,” Sasuke said with a sigh before he headed out, leaving Sai alone with Sakura and her wrath.
“I want a tattoo,” she reiterated, putting ample effort into sounding calmer than she felt. Sai shrugged.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Yes. Lie down,” he said, unfurling his brush set and waiting patiently for her to sprawl herself onto his couch.
“But…but what are you doing to do?” she asked remaining frozen where she stood. His head tilted as he considered her.
“I have a very specific image in mind. No one else was concerned, they just let me do it,” he said with another small shrug.
“You…you didn’t ask them? Or…what if I don’t like it? What if it’s not what I want? What if—”
“This is why I did not ask you,” he said with a smile that conveyed his understanding, but deeply grated on her nerves. Out of spite for that understanding smile and Sasuke’s snarky voice echoing in her mind, calling her a control freak, she stomped over to the couch and flung herself down onto it, glaring up at Sai.
“Do whatever you want,” she said with conviction, even though she was feeling anything but settled in this decision. Sai’s eyes widened momentarily in surprise before he settled into another happy smile.
“Please do not try to hit me,” he said softly before he pushed her so she was lying on her side and then curled his fingers into her shorts to push them down over her hip. She fought the urge to reach down and whack him into next week, instead settling for an indignant yelp.
“What are you doing?!”
“I’m going to put it on your hip,” he said, fixing her with another peaceful smile. “You said I could do whatever I want,” he reminded her gently. She swallowed her pride and her shouts of protest and resigned herself to lying in silence, enduring the strange breeze on her butt and Sai’s cool fingers on her skin. She gasped a little when she felt the cold, wet ink hit her skin.
Too late to turn back now, she thought as she forced herself to relax into the couch while Sai worked diligently over her skin. She found that it wasn’t all that unpleasant, even though sometimes she could feel his breath blow across her hip, providing a jarring reminder that she was damn near naked from the waist down.
She didn’t even try to sneak a peek at what he was doing. She was too nervous, she wasn’t even sure she wanted to know.
“Why my hip?” she asked eventually, because it seemed like a safe question.
“You have nice hips and thighs,” he answered simply. She felt her face flush and she settled into the couch a little easier. It seemed Sai had given this some real thought, at least. Even if he hadn’t told her about it, she felt placated that he had thought about her and what she might like. Placated enough that she almost felt like she shouldn’t have gone through with this.
But her pride was on the line. No way was she going to let Sasuke run around this village pretending like he had her pegged. Haruno Sakura was not a control freak. Even though she had been prompted into doing something very unlike herself just to maintain control over her self-image…
She would dissect that later. Right now, there was ink sprawling across her hip, from the top of her thigh, curling around just slightly to her butt and up toward her waist. Gods, whatever it was, she hoped she could live with it. She could probably skin-graft herself using medical ninjutsu, she told herself. More than anything, she just wanted to shove this in Sasuke’s smug face.
Ino’s sexy sunflower would be nothing compared to this, she told herself. Assuming she liked it, that was; and assuming she wouldn’t have to regenerate a huge bit of her skin in the event that she couldn’t stand the sight of her own body.
“Done,” Sai said happily. “Do you want to see before I seal it?” he asked, smiling at her over her hip. Yes, she thought. Yes, get this off of me right now.
“No, I trust you,” her stupid, stubborn mouth said instead. With a small shrug, Sai made the hand seals and pressed his chakra into her skin. She stayed put for a while longer, waiting for something to happen. The only thing that happened was Sai moving away from her to pack up his supplies.
Finally, after lying there with her ass out for a little too long, Sakura sat up and pulled her shorts up.
“Don’t you want to look?” he asked as she stood and readied herself to leave. Was it rude if she just ran home and lamented for a while? Like a day? Or five days?
“Oh—um, right. Yes, of course,” she said before shuffling toward his bathroom to peer at herself in the full-length mirror. She closed the door behind her, just in case she had a bad reaction. She didn’t want Sai to feel bad. She stared up at the fan on the ceiling, willing herself to look. Her eyes refused to obey.
Pull your pants down and look, dammit.
She exhaled sharply and forced her gaze onto her reflection. The piece was big enough that it was poking out under the hem of her shorts an even over the waistband, and gods, what had she been thinking? But from the small glimpses around her shorts she could see an interesting mix of colour, not at all the stark black ink she had seen on Naruto and Sasuke.
Curious, she eased her shorts down over her hips to stare at the piece. It was all soft lines and colour; pinks and whites and greens, spread across her. A big branch of cherry blossoms growing delicately across her skin, small blue and white slugs dancing in the branches between the blossoms, and when she activated the chakra, the petals fell and fluttered, and bloomed again, while the slugs languidly slithered about.
She stormed out of the bathroom with her shorts still bunched around her knees and hugged Sai tight around his neck.
-
As pleasantly surprised as she was by the tattoo, it took some getting used to. She found herself shuffling around people, hiding her right hip from them, unsure how to explain the large piece of art that had appeared on her skin. All her bravado at rubbing it in Ino’s face had dried up pretty quickly.
She found that she was staring at herself a little longer in the mirror as she looked at it. She wondered how Sai had planned it so it perfect curved with her body. So the colours perfectly blended into her, and complimented her. It looked like it belonged there. She found herself less willing to share it when she came to that realization.
Oh, well, she thought. At least it seemed less petty this way. There was just one person that she really wanted to show now…
“Why do you look so pleased with yourself?” Kakashi asked as she waltzed into his office and perched herself on his desk.
“Because I just single-handedly, successfully performed a craniotomy,” she said with a bright smile.
“Haven’t you done that before?”
“Yes, but it doesn’t hurt to remind you how awesome I am,” she said, swinging her legs and smiling down at him until he paid her her due attention, instead of frowning down at the paperwork she was half-sitting on. He sighed as he looked at a document that was lodged under her thigh.
“You’re sitting on my—what is that?” his eyes were glued to her thigh. She’d been careful to wear shorts long enough to cover her new tattoo, but it seemed that in hopping on his desk, she had also hiked her shorts up a little too high.
“Nothing,” she said quickly, pulling the hem down to cover herself, but he swatted her hand away and tentatively peeled back the fabric to look at the bit of ink poking out.
“That’s a tattoo,” he said before raising his eyes to her. “You got a tattoo?”
“Well…I didn’t really get a tattoo as much as I let Sai paint on me,” she said, shrugging and wriggling uncomfortably under his stare.
“It’s permanent?” he asked, his eyes sliding back down to her thigh after she’d nodded. “Can I see it?” he asked so softly she almost didn’t hear him.
“I beg your pardon?” she asked, her cheeks blazing. His fingers were playing at the hem of her shorts, reminding her of the last time those fingers had played near her.
“Show me,” he said, leaning back in his chair and looping his hands under her knees to tug her off his desk.
“I’m not pulling my shorts down in the middle of your office,” she said, feeling her cheeks burn, and knowing that he was smirking under his mask, as if telling her that it wouldn’t be the first time. “Fine, just a quick look,” she relented, furtively checking over her shoulder to make sure the door was closed and no one was peeking in before tugging down one side of her shorts to bare her hip to Kakashi.
His hand immediately moved to cradle her hip, his fingers ghosting ever so softly over her skin as he drank her in.
“Very nice,” he breathed out, eyes glinting mischievously when he felt her shudder at the feeling of his breath blowing over her.
“Yeah?” she asked, feeling a little breathless. He hummed lowly, his dark eyes shamelessly taking in the curve of her hip and the pink flowers that adorned it. She activated the chakra and smiled to herself as he watched the fluttering petals and slinking slugs move along her skin.
“Sai did this?” he asked, sounding suspiciously curious as he ran his fingers from the top of her hip, back around to the curve of her backside and then down to where the piece tapered off at her thigh. “He certainly got an eyeful,” he mumbled as he laid his hand flush against her.
“It’s just Sai…” she said, staring down at him, completely puzzled. He hummed vaguely before gently pulling her shorts back into place with a small kiss to her hip through his mask, making her shiver under his hands. “Kakashi…”
“Shall we?” he asked abruptly, eyes creased happily as he stood from his desk to lead her out of his office. She watched him with narrowed eyes as he circled his desk and headed for the door.
“Wait…” she said, watching his back as he feigned nonchalance. She had known him long enough, and certainly knew him well enough to know when he was faking it. He turned to face her, his crinkly-eyed smile still in effect.  “…Are you jealous?”
If he was jealous, he certainly didn’t admit it. Those shorts never did make it out of his office, though.

Sakura for the ask? ^^
@sakura-rpblog
send me a character and i’ll tell you…
a song that reminds me of them: HMMM okay this is also off my karin playlist but rage by rico nasty is a good song for battle sakura lmao. i'm thinking especially sasori fight sakura like please let sakura be terrifying and Strong yes bitch...
what they smell like: i think she smells really good! i think when she was a kid she probably really cared a lot about what like, perfume etc she wore but as she grew up she grew out of caring too much about her appearance bc she's Busy. she smells fresh and clean mostly, faintly of like fruit or floral shampoo, sometimes she smells kinda clinical or medical when she's been at a shift at hospital. in general she just smells Clean, sometimes Too Clean
an otp: m/f ship wise, i used to be into saisaku a lot during my initial watch of naruto!!! actually my ideal coupling up ( although I was very much like, hopeful for a non ship ending and leaving it ambiguous cos who gives a shit about marriage after you literally meet god and go through all of that but w/e that's a rant for a different day ) would have been t7 all ending up with "side characters", i.e naruhina/saisaku/sasukarin. which was not an opinion held by many people rip. but i think sai and sakura are so cute lol. i warmed up a lot to narusaku too!! they're very cute together. f/f wise i like sakukarin and inosaku because who doesn't. literally who doesn't.
a notp: the one that ended up canon. sakura deserves better lol first of all i think it's lame she doesn't get to keep her name i think her retaining her own sort of non-clan identity is important bc she is the only one not from some huge fucking Legacy and she deserves to be remembered as Haruno Sakura not an uchiha rip. anyway also kishi just does her dirty in interviews and i think his opinion of her kind of made ss not really good? again i think it could have worked if it was written well but alas. give sakura a partner who is actually there for her
favorite platonic/familial relationships: tsunade and sakura of courthe. kakashi and sakura also it's a crime she got neglected for nrt and sasuke like come on now. and ofc i love sarada so sakura and sarada :3
a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with: every misogynistic thing that anybody ever says lmfao also the idea that SAKURA is the reason ss is bad LMFAOOOOOOOOOO. anyway she's strong smart cool fun and compassionate and her plotline could have been so much cooler bc i really like her growing up in privilege and confronting shinobi hardship through her exposure to ssk+nrt and developing her understanding of the world, esp as a medic who sees the real horrific outcomes. rogue shinobi sakura when. she deserves to revolutionize the ninja world
the position they sleep in: cos she's a medic she tries to sleep like the Most Beneficial To Health Way possible but also i can see her being the overworker type who falls asleep standing up somewhere or at her desk bc she's been working nonstop . put a blanket around this woman and tuck her into bed
a crossover au i’d love to see them in: this is such a self indulgent and exposing concept but i've been obsessed lately with killing eve au sakura as like, a mi5/fbi agent who ends up involved in the Dark World bc of her attachment/empathy to a female assassin. take 1 guess who i imagine the assassin to be smh. ( spoiler alert: karin ).
my favorite outfit they’ve ever worn: her genin outfit is so cute but she's never had a bad fit once. never. i love her gloves specifically in shippuden like yes bitch protect your knuckles when you smash fuck out of people

92. “You make me happy.” for saisaku? Please?
Of course!
I Love You So
ao3
Sakura didn’t think he realized how intimate he sounded; how soft his voice was with that sincere smile on his lips.
                “You make me happy.”
Sakura felt herself blush and tried to not read too much into it. Her eyes went to the table between them and she replied honestly, “You make me happy, too, Sai.”
 ***
Once she heard it, she had the thought that she wanted to hear it for the rest of her life. It made her chest tight even as she smiled.
They were walking by a river, on their way back to Konoha after a mission. Sai had made an off-handed comment to Naruto, something that didn’t have as much bite to it like when they were teenagers. Sakura knew he only did it because he enjoyed bickering with Naruto.
Naruto made a face and shoved him. “Oi, take that back!”
Sai told him with a blank face, but Sakura could see the smirk in his eyes. “No, I don’t think I will.”
“You’re such an asshole.” Naruto pushed him again and this time Sai caught his arm. He pulled him towards the water and since Naruto knew he couldn’t avoid it, he grabbed Sai’s shirt and dragged him down with him.
Sakura and Kakashi stepped to the side to avoid the splash of water when they landed, amused smiles on their faces. They were completely soaked when they stood up, Naruto grumbling as he shook his hair. Sai laughed as he stepped out of the bank, his sandals making a wet noise as he walked. Naruto took off his jacket as he walked beside him, wringing out the fabric and shaking it near him.
Sakura felt herself chuckling, watching them look at each other annoyed but not able to stop their grins. They were ridiculous.
Sai caught her smile and she felt her heart skip a beat when he put an arm around her. She squealed from his cold arm and tried to push him back with a laugh. “Sai, get off of me!”
He tugged on her, giving her an innocent smile. “But Sakura, it is really hot today. Maybe you should – “
Sakura might’ve stood a chance if it was just Sai, but then Naruto grabbed her other arm and they wrestled her to the water. She glared up at them after she resurfaced from the water, hearing Kakashi sigh as he looked over at them. She noticed he’d stepped even further away from them, his book tucked protectively back in his pouch. She didn’t think he stood much of a chance either.
Sai reached a hand out for her, a laugh falling from his lips. “Now we’re all even.”
Sakura rolled her eyes at him as she wrapped her hand around his and let him pull her to her feet. There was a smile on her lips even as she told him, “I didn’t even do anything!”
***
Sakura felt heat coil in her stomach as she looked up at him. They’d been sparring and he had her pinned to the ground, her hands in one of his in a tight grip above her head. Sakura felt breathless as she met his eyes. There was something there as he looked down at her and Sakura hated how she didn’t know if it was her imagination. His other hand was on her waist and when she felt his fingers dig into her skin, some panic clawed up her throat.
With a flare of chakra, she broke his hold and flipped him so she could stand up. He looked up at her confused, still on the ground and Sakura hoped he blamed the red in her cheeks on the fight. She gave him a nervous smile as her heart raced in her chest. “You win, Sai.”
She walked away from him and over to the tree Naruto was sitting at. He cocked an eyebrow at her as she reached down for her pack, “Sakura, what’re you – “
“I forgot I have a surgery scheduled soon. I’ll leave the rest of training to you two,” she rattled off an excuse and didn’t look back as she slipped in between the trees.
She heard Naruto call out to Sai as she walked away. “What the hell did you do to her?”
Her insides twisted at the confused voice that replied, “I don’t know.”
 ***
They were at the training ground again, just themselves, lying around after a spar. This time Sakura hadn’t turned into a blushing mess and ran away when he pinned her down. But Sai had also let go of her as soon as he did so.
Sakura had her head pillowed on her arms as she looked up at the sky, laying at Sai’s feet where he was sitting against the tree. She glanced at him to see he’d pulled out his sketchbook. “What’re you drawing?”
He didn’t look up from the paper as he sketched and told her, “You.”
Sakura felt her heart stutter and tried to play off the nervous feeling that was crawling across her skin. She chuckled and looked away from him. “Why would you draw me? I thought you said I was ugly.”
Sai snorted. “I haven’t called you that in years.”
He hadn’t and Sakura bit her lip, not knowing how to reply. His voice was lower when he spoke again and Sakura could hear a thread of nervousness laced through it. “I didn’t understand some things back then. Sakura, you’re very beautiful, don’t think you’re not.”
Sakura felt her skin heat and she kept her eyes resolutely on a blade of grass. She let out a breath and told him quietly, “I don’t think you have any idea what you do to me.”
Sai matched her tone and replied, “I don’t think you know what you do to me, either.”
They were small confessions, words spoken to lay out on the grass between them. Neither of them moved though, a tense silence following them until it morphed into something comfortable as the minutes went by.
 ***
Sai’s grip in the back of her shirt was tight even as he told her through gritted teeth, “Sakura, you should – “
Sakura tightened her hold on his waist as they moved through the trees. She bit back at him harshly, “I’m not leaving you here, so shut the hell up already.”
He laughed though it sounded like it caused him pain. “Always so stubborn.”
“Fuck off,” Sakura muttered back, her eyes scanning the area in front of them. Naruto and Kakashi couldn’t be too far from them. She could hear the sounds of blades in the distance but didn’t know if it was better to move towards them or retreat further.
Anxiety twisted along her spine as she decided and moved in their direction. A kunai flew by her ear and she felt like she made the right choice as she spun to kick the ground behind them, the ground flying in the air as she yanked Sai on to her back and sprinted into the trees.
 ***
“Sakura, I’m fine.” Sai sent her a comforting smile as she entered his tent, but it didn’t ease any of the tightness in her chest.
She glared at him as she moved to kneel beside him. “I’m going to keep checking on you so just deal with it.”
Sai sighed but didn’t argue as her hands went to the wound on his side. There wasn’t any more tearing and while she was thankful for it, she huffed frustrated. “I wish I could heal it all the way.”
Sai covered her hand with his own and she looked to his face. “Don’t. You know you need to save some of your chakra.”
Sakura bit the inside of her cheek and tore her eyes back to his stomach. She was bitter about it, but he was right, and she only had so much left. They weren’t in Konoha territory yet and it wouldn’t be smart to use up any more of her chakra in case something happened. Sai would be fine, like he said.
His hand tightened around hers and Sakura felt her jaw lock as her breath hitched in her chest. He tugged on her hand, pulling her towards him. “Sakura.”
Sakura looked back to him as he sat up but before she could protest, he’d pulled her to his chest. He wrapped his arms around her, and Sakura felt her eyes burn as he told her, “Sakura, I’m fine. Stop looking at me like that.”
Sakura felt something snap inside her and she clung to him, burying her face in his neck. Her voice shook as she told him, “Don’t ever tell me to leave you again.”
He leaned his head against hers and Sakura focused on his breathing. He said softly, “I’m sorry.”
 ***
Sakura almost wanted to decline his invitation for a spar. She was tired and Sai had a way of making her heart race any time they were in the training grounds that had nothing to do with fighting. She felt like he knew it too.
But she found it hard to deny him and joined him for the evening.
Sakura panted as she looked up at him, her eyes narrowed. “I will figure out why you keep beating me one of these days.”
Sai had a smirk on his lips and Sakura fought back a shiver as his hand trailed down her hip. “I think it’s because you keep getting distracted.”
Sakura bit her lip and denied it, unable to look away from the heat in his eyes. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Sai hummed and Sakura felt his hand go lower until he hooked it under her knee, then yanked her body closer to him as he leaned over her. Sakura could feel her pulse pounding in her ears and she asked him nervously, “Sai, do you know what you’re doing?”
                “Yes.”
Then, he kissed her, and Sakura felt herself let go.
 ***
Sai was kissing her into her sheets as she tangled her fingers in his hair. She sighed into his mouth as his fingers brushed across her side. She felt him smile and he admitted softly, “I think I could spend the rest of my life doing this.”
Sakura’s heart felt heavy and she asked him breathlessly, “You know what you’re implying when you say things like that, don’t you?”
He pulled back just far enough to meet her eyes and Sakura didn’t think anyone had ever looked at her so warmly. “I do.”
Emotion coated her throat and she told him in a whisper, “I love you.”
Sai smiled with a small chuckle and kissed the words into her skin, “Yes, exactly.”

Bonding Time, Kids
Chapter 5- We Need More Bandages
Word count- 1767
Description- More robot fighting.
Author note- Alright chapter three has been taken down to chunks. Makes my life easier, honestly. Whoo!
In the stands, Neito watches his classmates destroying robots and buildings. It’s hard to tell who’s doing what, but he just assumes which class does what.
He sees a robot fly a few kilometers through the street. After a minute or so, he sees that the robot starts flying again. Right towards him.
When he realizes it, he gets up to run out of the way. He feels something wrap around his midsection and pulls him.
“You alright, Monoma?” He hears Yosetsu say after he’s set down.
“Yeah, thank you.” He adjusts his jacket, finding it damp. Right. Frog.
Yosetsu watches him. He can’t read his expression, but seeing him pause when he touches his clothes tells him enough.
“Sorry. It’s the first thing that came to mind. Instincts or whatever.”
“It’s alright.” He says, removing his jacket.
Yosetsu sits behind Izuku and Shouto, all of them surrounded by mushrooms.
“Does he ever stop muttering?”
“No, not really.” Shouto answers.
Yosetsu stares at Neito, or he would if he could see him, as if saying “Don’t do it. Don’t fucking do it.”
Neito looks at his classmate, as if he’s about to say something when he pauses. “Why are you sitting like that?”
He’s less sitting and more squatting.
“I dunno. It’s just what's most comfortable.”
Neito shakes his head, not like anyone could tell, and shifts his focus back to the training ground.
“You think they’re holding up alright?”
“Of course I do. There’s nothing I don’t believe they can do.”
“Hey! Saisaku, Sukuidasu! How’re you doing?” The two jump a little as Setsuna sits by them, with Kouji and Kojirou behind her.
“Aren’t you guys supposed to be in the training ground?”
“We already got it figured out, so I’d figured we could come and watch.” She spots the robot. “Oh wow! Who did that?”
“Don’t know, but it nearly took out Monoma.”
“Damn!”
“Wait, you said you guys figured out your quirks?”
“Oh, yeah! Watch!” She pumps her arm and a blade comes out of her elbow.
“I knew my classmates could rise to the occasion!”
Kouji shuffles awkwardly, hoping he’d forget they’re there.
“Oh!” Izuku turns around suddenly, he’s holding a notebook and covered in mushrooms. “Monoma! Do you feel any different? You know, now that you’re invisible?”
“Uhm, no, not really.”
“Can you still see properly? Since your eyes are invisible too, and people see because light is bouncing off of things and onto the eyes, but light goes through yours.”
“I can still see fine.”
“Then Hagakure might have a secondary quirk allowing her to see without light hitting her eyes. She has shown the ability to manipulate light itself, so maybe she changes the light so she can see but her eyes are still invisible…” He goes on, as he is one to do.
“Midoriya,” He places his hand on the boy’s face. “I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t even realize I was muttering.” He rubs the back of his neck. “I was mostly just thinking out loud, sorry.”
“It’s not surprising to me that a 1a kid would forget the people around him.”
“Aw, come on, Saisaku! It’s not that bad. In fact, I like that he shares what’s on his mind.” She says that as if it’s a conscious decision he makes.
“O-oh, really?”
“Yeah!” She pauses for a moment. “Hana!”
“Huh?”
“A nickname! See, I started at hanasu (speak), and I thought Hana (flower) would be cool!”
“Oh! Thank you! It’s much nicer than the last nickname I got.”
Back on the grounds, Tetsutetsu and Sen walk around.
“Jeez, what was that?” Tetsutetsu asks.
“It doesn’t seem to be nearby, so I don’t think we should be worried about it.”
“Right,” He sees a robot going past. “Then let’s do this!”
“We should have a pl…” Tetsutetsu runs towards it. “Okay.”
Sen follows behind him, watching the robot’s movements. He knows that they’re out of their depth, he knows that Tetsutetsu knows that they’re out of their depth, but he also knows that they aren’t going to know any more without acting. That doesn’t mean they should go in without a plan.
Tetsutetsu grabs it as though he’s trying to pick it up.
“Tetsutetsu, I don’t think that’s the best idea.”
“Right, right.” He cracks his fingers, and the robot shrinks. “Damn! I think I got Kodai’s quirk.”
“Seems so.”
He picks up the robot and crushes it between his fingers.
“Dude!” Looking over, they see Eijirou waving at them, specifically Tetsutetsu. They also see Ochako, Yuuga, Manga, and Hiryuu running behind him.
“Hey, man!” He notices something. “What’s with the belt?”
“I got Aoyama’s quirk, and he let me use his support belt! Pretty manly, if you ask me!” He punches said boy in the shoulder. It probably would’ve hurt if not for the armor.
“What about you guys?” Sen asks. “Have you figured out what quirks you have?”
“I have Kirishima’s.”
“I believe I have Fukidashi’s quirk.” Hiryuu answers.
“No… I can’t get it to activate.” Manga’s bubble has an angry face.
“Ne me fais pas admettre mes défauts…”
“I don’t understand French, sorry.”
“I haven’t, no.”
A robot steps behind them and grabs Sen.
“Kaibara!” Manga yells, reaching out to his classmate to no avail.
Sen struggles in the steel grip, he feels himself sweating and hears a sort of hissing, which he’s not entirely sure what’s making that noise. After a moment, he falls. He hears what he guesses it’s the destroying of a robot behind him.
He stands up and sees everyone staring at him, when Ochako quickly covers her face and looks away. Looking down, he sees his clothes practically melting off his body.
Yuuga takes off his cape and hands it to him. “Would you like to borrow this?”
He takes it. “Thank you.” He mumbles.
“C’est ce qu’il y a de mieux pour tout le monde.”
Katsuki sees the small crowd and tries to make his way around it.
“Bakugou!” Eijirou calls.
Damn it.
“What do you want, Shitty Hair?”
“Do you know your quirk yet?”
“No, no matter how hard I fucking try, it doesn’t work. Must be some shitty-ass quirk.”
“I have an idea,” Sen ties the cape around himself so he can stand up with only mild embarrassment. “If we figure out the quirks that everyone already knows, then we can figure out the ones who haven’t.”
“Whatever.”
The group walks through the streets, fighting robots when necessary.
“Hey guys!” Pony jumps down from atop a building with Momo climbing down behind her. “Why is Kaibara wearing a cape?”
“I don’t wanna talk about it.”
“How are you guys doing?” Momo asks when she reaches the ground. No one notices her fingertips covered in dust and blood.
“We’re doing good!” Eijirou answers. “We’re trying to figure some quirks out!”
“I got Tetsutetsu’s!”
“Wait you did?!” Tetsutetsu runs up to her.
“Yeah!” She demonstrates this by turning into steel
“Cool! Look, look!” He picks up a rock and throws it, he touches his fingertips together and the rock grows, slamming into a building.
Fumikage has not been having a good day. Since his parting with Togaru it has not been easier taking down robots, and now a boulder nearly slams into him.
“What a mad banquet of darkness…”
Looking towards where it came from, seeing people walking towards him.
“Tokoyami!” Momo yells and most of the group pick up the pace a bit. Katsuki continues to walk at his original speed, maybe a little slower.
“Oh, dude! My bad!” Tetsutetsu goes to his side to check for injuries. “Are you good?”
“There will always be worse things that fate can do to people.”
“That’s… good, right?”
“I am well, yes.”
“So Tokoyami, have you figured out what quirk you have?” Momo asks.
“I…” He pauses for a moment. “No.”
“Well then we’ll help you with it!” She claps her hands together.
“I do have an idea of what it might be but… why are you wearing Aoyama’s cape?”
“Please don’t-” His arms fall to his sides as he goes slack-jawed.
“As I thought.” He nods. “I have Shinsou’s quirk.”
Momo and Pony look at the frozen boy.
“How do you deactivate it?”
“I’m not sure. I’ve never been the target of it before so I’ve never experienced what it takes to make it stop… however…” He gives a tug on the boy’s arm. Nothing. “Apologies, I thought that would work like it had the first time.”
“Aoyama has been through it,” Momo says. “Maybe he knows how…” She turns around, not seeing him. For someone constantly covered in glitter and wearing a large suit of armor, he’s quite stealthy.
“I’ve got this!” Tetsutetsu steps up to him, grabs him by the shoulders, and begins shaking him violently.
“Tetsutetsu,” Sen says whilst the boy in question continues rattling him back and forth. “Tetsutetsu I’m fine now.”
When he stops, Sen stumbles to steady himself.
“I apologize for my actions, and I won’t ask you about something you don’t want to answer.” Fumikage says with a bow.
“Oh, uh, thank you.”
“Bakugou?!” Eijirou yells.
Katsuki lays unconscious on the ground. Momo runs to his side, placing a hand on his arm.
“He’s burning up.”
“So we should take him to Recovery Girl?”
“I’m not sure her quirk will be able to help him,” Hiryuu picks him up. “But anywhere is better for him than here.”
“Should some of us stay here? There’s no way we’d all be allowed, plus Fukidashi still has to figure out the quirk he got.” Pony says.
“Come on, don’t single me out!”
Momo thinks for a moment. “I’ll take him. As vice representative it is my job to ensure the safety of my classmates.”
“I’ll go, too. Since I’m already holding him.”
The two head off with Katsuki in tow.
“It’s a bust. No matter how much I try it doesn’t work.” Manga crosses his arms.
“Don’t think like that, Fukidashi!” Pony says, patting his back. “Here, I have an idea!”
She moves in front of him and turns steel. She then moves to punch him in the gut, but he moves out of the way.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m giving you an extra push!”
Back in the stands, Nemuri approaches the homeroom teachers.
“There are more kids in the nurse's office.”
Shouta sighs. “This isn’t working.”
“I’ll get Mic to call it off.” Sekijirou stands up. He feels a twinge in his chest, thinking back to the moment. He could have done more. He should have done more.

Creator 2017 Tag Meme
Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 favorite works you’ve created this year (fics, art, edits, etc!) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world in 2017. Tag as many writers/artists/etc as you want (fan or original!) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works. <3
1. There is sunshine on his forehead
Naruto, SaiSaku, Soulmate AU with a twist
This is the work I feel the most pride about. It has everything I love when I read a fic and more, and I’m overwhelmed by the response from the readers.
2. from the ashes of Tuchanka
Mass Effect, Shoker and Shakarian, Canon Divergence
I decided I could damn well write a fic fully knowing that no one was going to read it, for the sole purpose of making me happy. So this happened.
3. Withered Flowers
Naruto, Fugaku/Hiashi, Canon Divergence & Fix-it
My main project, the one I never expected to be able to bring to this point.
4. I’d only have to blow, and everything would be shadow
Naruto, ShikaSaku, Future-fic
I fell in love with this ship and that was my first real attempt at making them happen. Of course, it’s angst.
5. the taller they stand (the harder they fall)
Naruto, NaruShikaSaku, Future-fic
This is where I put my feelings, where I bleed all my hurt. I love it. Heavily inspired by the atmosphere of the Dishonored series.
And I tag @raendown @moonfox22 @omelettedufromage-24601 @ask-multisaku

Note
Ship you like that most people don't, ship you hate that most people like, most underrated/overrated ships, EstLat, Sasuke/Karin and KisaIta for OTP/BROTP/NOTP, favorite headcanon for AmeLiet, favorite canon moment for SasoDei, favorite h/c and canon moment for Tony/Steve, rant about pairing of your choice
Ship you like that most people don’t: Would SasuKarin count? I don’t think it’s that popular compared to other Sasuke ships. And for Hetalia, possibly rarepairs like IceLat or LietUkr (not because people dislike them, but because they’re just unpopular)
Ship you hate that most people like: I can’t stand Crowfeather/Leafpool from Warriors: The New Prophecy (the second of the Warrior Cats series). I didn’t like it when I first read the books, and I dislike it even more now that I re-read them. It’s like Graystripe/Silverstream 2.0, except I actually liked that ship and was devastated by Silverstream’s death. (Just getting tired of the ‘star-crossed lovers from different Clans’ trope. Not to mention the ‘big reveal’ in the Power of Three series made me go ‘UGGGGH’ so hard. I saw it coming a mile away, but I still hoped it wouldn’t be canon, XD)
-
Underrated ships: IceLat (Hetalia), SaiSui, NaruIno, SaiSaku, LeeSaku, HidaKona, SakuIno, TemaTen (all of those are from Naruto), LatLiech (Hetalia), Shiv/Talon (Static Shock), BuckyNat (is that popular? I don’t see it as often as other Bucky ships), Adam/Sharon (Static Shock), Kumiko/Reina (Hibiki! Euphonium), Jearmin (SnK. Is this one popular? I used to see more content for it years ago, but not so much anymore), Reim/Sharon (Pandora Hearts), Paula/Kate (Red Garden)
Overrated ships (NOTE: I don’t hate these ships–and actually ship many of them casually; I just feel like the fandoms they’re from can get over-saturated with them to the point where it becomes a little annoying): JeanMarco (SnK), RinHaru (Free! Iwatobi Swim Club), FrUK (Hetalia) [these first three, I actually ship casually, but acknowledge how overrated they are], HotGear (Static Shock. Still don’t understand this one), IchiRuki and IchiHime (Bleach), Kirito/Asuna (Sword Art Online–Doesn’t help that this is a series I dislike)
-
EstLat:OTP/BROTP/NOTP
SasuKarin: OTP/BROTP/NOTP
KisaIta: OTP/BROTP/NOTP
-
Fave AmeLiet headcanon: for a non-angsty one, America gets Lithuania hooked on superhero movies (And they totally cosplay Captain America and Bucky at least once) I can also see them both trying different sorts of coffees together. For an angsty one: Toris is always ashamed of his scars, but Alfred tries to cheer him up about them by saying that they show how brave he was. Toris obviously disagrees, but it still makes him feel a little better that Alfred isn’t disgusted by them.
-
Fave canon moment with Sasori and Deidara: Every time they debate about art. It’s so hilarious and quotable.
-
Stony headcanon: Steve likes to pretend he isn’t good at using technology just to troll Tony, XD
Stony canon moment: Their banter. (If you haven’t noticed, I tend to like ships that banter with each other, XDD)
-
Pairing rant: Not so much a rant, but it’s really hard to find fics where Hong Kong and Iceland are just friends. For some reason, I just can’t ship them romantically, and it’s really frustrating because I love having them interact in fics, but I don’t want to read the romance.

“Just breathe, okay?” SaiSaku, set around the time period of The Last; Sakura has a panic attack and Sai tries to calm her down
Breathe
ao3
TW: panic attacks, anxiety
They were walking by a stream near the village, cooling off after a long day of training. Sakura had been listening to something Sai was telling her and then she could barely make out what he was saying, his voice fading away. All the sounds faded back, and Sakura could feel her heart rate picking up. Her feet slowed to a stop as her eyes scanned around them.
She was vaguely aware of Sai stopping beside her. The sound of his voice muffled as her eyes went to the water beside them, the line of trees on the other side.
                Nothing was there.
Her heart continued to beat fast and Sakura clutched at her chest, feeling more panicked. She looked around them again as her breathing became ragged.
                There was nothing there, right?
                Right?
Sakura’s head started to feel dizzy and like someone was screaming in the back of it. Sai grabbed her arm and it slightly grounded her. Her voice felt like it could barely get out through the tightness in her throat. “I – I can’t breathe. Sai – Sai –“
He moved in front of her and Sakura looked to his face for a moment before going back around them. Her muscles wouldn’t move for her, her limbs feeling heavy – so heavy. Sakura looked to the water again. It was running fast.
Had it always been running fast? Was it getting faster?
                What was going on?
Sakura felt panic clawing at her, and her eyes went back to Sai almost desperately. His eyes were worried, and she realized how close he was standing, the way his fingers were laying on her wrist. He was checking her heart rate. Sakura counted it with him, her pulse vibrating in her ears. It was loud. Why was it so loud?
Tears started to well up in her eyes.
                Why was it so fast?
Sakura’s chest hurt and her fingers dug into the fabric of her shirt.
Was she having a heart attack?
Sakura more watched the ground move closer to her than she felt herself fall forward. Sai’s arms caught her, and he held her to him as he lowered them to the ground. Sakura was choking on her sobs, unable to get any breath to her lungs, and Sai’s steady hands grabbed her face and turned her towards him.
He met her eyes and Sakura tried to focus on what he was saying.
“Sakura, you need to breathe for me, okay?”
Sakura gave him a slight nod and tried to slow her breathing back down. When she couldn’t, her chest tightened and Sakura felt like she was babbling, tears running down her face. “Sai – “
He smiled at her, his thumb stroking across her skin. His eyes didn’t leave hers. “You’re doing great, Sakura. Keep breathing.”
Sakura didn’t feel like she was doing great, but she focused on his voice as he continued to talk. He grabbed one of her hands and put it on his chest, over his heart. “I want you to breathe with me.”
Sakura felt the rise and fall of his chest, the steady beat of his heart. It was a little fast but no where near like hers. She tried to match it, her eyes falling to her hand on him. Her breath continued to hitch in her chest, something ringing in her ears, but she tried to calm herself.
Sai’s voice was softer, and Sakura leaned into the palm of his hand. “You’re getting there. Just focus on me and breathing, nothing else.”
He continued to breath with her and it was painfully slow, but Sakura started to breathe normally again. Her tears drying on her cheeks, her heart not feeling like it was going to jump from her chest. Sakura felt exhausted by the end of it and Sai pulled her forward to fall against his chest. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and he hugged her tightly to him.
He rubbed a hand up and down her back as Sakura calmed down. Sakura told him in a shaky voice after a few more minutes, not moving from her place against his neck, “That’s never happened to me before.”
Sai’s voice was grounding and Sakura held it to her in a firm grasp. “You’re okay. It was just a panic attack.”
Sakura realized that now, but she hadn’t been able to a moment ago. Her arms tightened around him, and she mumbled into his shirt, “That was terrifying.”
                “I’m here, Sakura.”
He was. Sakura was overwhelmingly thankful for it too. She couldn’t imagine if she’d been walking by herself, not able to pull herself out of it and maybe fainting against the water.
“Thank you.” She barely got the words out, but she didn’t doubt that he’d heard her.
 ***
Sakura shot up in her bed, her eyelashes wet as she covered her mouth over her hand. Her chest shook as tears ran down her face. After she could breathe again, she ran her fingers through her hair and got up from the bed, almost ripping the sheets in her haste. The floor was cold where her bare feet touched it and Sakura felt like it helped shock her back to reality.
She left the bedroom and walked to her kitchen. She still felt shaken as she grabbed a glass from her cabinet, and it was probably why it slipped from her fingers to shatter against the floor. Sakura jumped back from it, wincing at the loud noise. She gripped the counter near her and took a deep breath, closing her eyes.
She breathed for a moment, willing her heart to slow down and then looked down at the glass shards across her floor. The moonlight from the window reflected off them and Sakura stared at them for a few seconds, trying to talk herself into kneeling down to clean them up.
She gave up after a moment and found herself stepping over them. She went back to her room, avoiding looking at her rumpled sheets and grabbed a pair of pants from her laundry hamper. She went to her window and slipped out of it without second thought.
Sai met her at the window, his hand on her elbow as she slipped through the glass and into his room. His eyes were concerned as he looked her over. “Sakura, what’re you – are you okay?”
Sakura nodded and then shook her head, not knowing how to answer. She let out a shaky breath and asked him quietly, “Can I sleep here?”
Sai nodded, trying for a smile but she could see how his eyes traced the tear stains she hadn’t bothered to wipe away. His hand slipped down to her hand and Sakura threaded her fingers through his. He pulled her back towards his bed and Sakura crawled under the sheets to lie beside him.
Sakura curled on her side towards him, her eyes staring at a loose thread in his pillow case. She didn’t know how long they laid there in silence but then, he called out to her in a quiet voice, “Sakura?”
The warmth that she saw in the dark of his eyes was something she wished she could sink herself into. His smile was soft and if she was in a better state of mind, she would’ve heard the nervousness in his voice. “Do you want me to hold you?”
Sakura nodded, feeling something break inside her as a couple tears escaped her eyes. “Yes.”
Sai chuckled and he held open his arms to her. “Then, come here.”
Sakura moved to him and Sai wrapped his arms around her, holding her close to his chest. Sakura rested her head on his chest, listening to the beating of his heart. It was a little fast again and she felt herself smile against his skin.
Sai didn’t say anything else and neither did she. She didn’t sleep well there either, but it was better. She felt loved by the way he didn’t go to sleep until she did. She didn’t think she’d ever felt more comfort than when he was wrapped around her.
He didn’t ask her about it in the morning and Sakura didn’t tell him. He pulled her to the kitchen with the intention of making her breakfast. Sakura laughed when he burned the eggs, her chest tight – but in a good way – when she noticed the faint blush on his cheeks. She pushed him aside, grabbing more eggs from the open carton, and showed him how to cook them better with his hand on her hip as he watched over her shoulder.
 ***
Sai joined ANBU and Sakura resisted the urge to selfishly ask him to quit. She missed him on missions, but she adjusted as the months went by. She watched him closely whenever he got back but he was handling it well. She supposed after being in Root for so long, he was suited for it. ANBU was filled with horror stories and tragedy, but it wasn’t anything like Root. It was an honor to be accepted into the unit and Sakura didn’t bother to fight down the pride she felt at Sai having his own mask.
She understood what it meant to him, another new leaf to turn. A way to show his loyalty to the village. She wondered if he would always feel like he had to make amends for following Danzo blindly for so many years.
It felt like she was always the first place he went to whenever he returned from a mission and Sakura selfishly believed it as fact. Depending on where she was, he would change out of his uniform and into civilian clothes. But if she were in her apartment, he wouldn’t bother. A grey vest, mask, and katana laying hidden away in her bedroom as he cooked dinner with her.
She hadn’t seen many instances like today, but she could recognize it for what it was. His smiles didn’t reach his eyes and she noticed how his stare would go blank during a conversation. It would take him a minute to notice and then he would sigh, apologizing and asking her to repeat herself.
Sakura gave him a soft smile and reached out for his hand. Sai followed her easily when she pulled on his hand and led him out of the kitchen and into the living room. She pulled him down with her to the couch and Sai hovered unsurely over her. Sakura ignored her racing heart and asked him quietly with her hands held out, “Let me hold you?”
Sai smiled and Sakura was thankful for the sincerity in it. He fell against her and Sakura shifted as his arms snaked under her and he laid his head on her chest. He sighed contently against her as her fingers started to run through his hair and Sakura felt herself smile. Her eyes went to a bird perched on her windowsill and she watched her quietly as she fed the baby birds in her nest.
Sai fell asleep against her and Sakura’s chest was tight with emotion when she noticed. She’d never be able to explain how that felt if someone asked.
 ***
Sakura thanked Tsunade in her head for all the training she put her through. For the long nights, the brutal tests, the lessons on keeping her head cool under pressure. Sakura repeated her words over in her head as her hands pressed against the gashes across Sai’s chest.
He was breathing heavily, but it wasn’t bad enough for her to worry about. Sweat glistened across his skin and he winced any time she moved. Sakura wished she could be gentle, but she couldn’t forfeit efficiency for it as her hands turned him to get to the cuts on his back. Her chest shook but her face remained calm, her hands steady.
The cuts closed across his skin and Sakura was exhausted when she was finished, falling to her knees in front of him as he sat on her couch in the dark room. He smiled down at her, tiredly with dark under his eyes, and reached out to hold her face. The touch was so tender, and Sakura felt emotion crawl up her throat. Tears started to pour down her face and she watched as Sai’s expression broke.
His other hand reached for her arm to pull her up. “Sakura, I’m sorry. I – “
She kissed him, it was rough, and she could taste the salt of her tears on his lips. He tightened his grip on her arm, his fingers digging into her skin. He pulled back breathless. “Sakura, you don’t – “
“I love you.” Sakura held his face in her hands and met his eyes. She tried for a smile as more tears rolled down her cheeks. “I love you. Don’t think this panic or – whatever you’re thinking. I love you.”
He kissed her back, his hands going down her body to pull her into his lap. Sakura’s breath left her as his lips moved with hers, one of her hands moving to the back of his head to drag him closer. When they broke apart, he told her only a breath away, “I love you.”
Sakura breath hitched in her throat and Sai pulled her back to him, his arms wrapping around her back as she pressed her face into his neck. Sakura hated how much of a mess she was, how she cried against him.
Sai leaned his head against hers, his hand idly going up and down her back. He sighed and his voice was low as he told her, “I’m sorry I scared you, Sakura.”
Sakura shook her head in denial, not able to trust her voice to speak.
“I’ll go to the hospital next time. I shouldn’t have done that to you.”
Sakura swallowed thickly and promised him, “I’ll always heal you.”
Sai turned his head to kiss her hair and he repeated, “I’ll go to the hospital next time.”
Sakura took a deep breath and could only nod again.
 ***
When Sakura felt better in the morning and Sai had washed all the blood away from his skin, she kissed him again. His lips tasted like the coffee she had made him, and she could only smile as he pulled her into his lap from where he sat at her kitchen table.
