What's Sasha's and Mihawks relationship

ohah anon! not sure if you're just asking about how they're related biologically or actually want to know how they feel about each other, so I'll just try to answer both! the short answer is above and the long long answer under the cut! might include spoilers if you arent up to date with the manga!!

Mihawk is Sasha's father. However he did not raise her (I'm not 100% sure yet if he even knew that she existed until a few years ago haha), so they do not have the usual relationship a father and their child would have.

While Mihawk may not have known about her until she made herself a name as a pirate, Sasha knew very well who her father was from the very beginning -- that being because everyone around her would immediately see the obvious resemblance, especially since she inherited his signature eyes and had a very natural affinity and interest in swords early on.

Because of that, she was always compared to Mihawk from very early on, which Sasha didn't appreciate since she got the feeling she wasn't allowed to be her own person and was forced to stand in the shadow of a man she never even met. Similar to Ace, Sasha rejected the thought of her biological father and accepted Whitebeard as her real father and the Crew as her family instead.

The first time Mihawk and Sasha meet is as enemies on the battlefield during the Marineford Arc. Thus, her first impression of her biological dad are very bad, since in her eyes he is obviously fighting for the 'wrong side' here. (In my headcanon, Sasha is fighting Mihawk during the arc instead of Vista! 👇)

It gets even worse after Ace and Whitebeard die during this war. In general Sasha grows very hateful and bitter and swears to avenge her family by killing even the smallest Marine fry that was remotely involved in the whole incident. She secretly follows Mihawk to Kuraigana where she wants to confront him, blinded by hatred. Sasha ends up staying on the island for a few months (together with Zoro and Perona whose presence actually make her calm down and stay sane through her inner conflict tbh) and at least comes to terms with the fact that Mihawk was bound to fight on the Marine's side.

During everything, Mihawk is his usual reserved self - but does feel bad for her. I think being a father is very new to him and he is conflicted with how he should act towards Sasha, especially after being absent her whole life. He does care about her though. During her fights, he had tried his best to take it easy on her - but in a way that wouldn't be too obvious. In my hc, the reason he joins Cross Guild and continues hunting Marines after the timeskip is to make amends for being a neglectful father and in a sick and twisted way, he knows that Marines being killed would give Sasha the most joy.

On this the final day of pride month (probably into July for most), I feel the need to come out as a defender of the JoJo’s english dub.

Disclaimer: Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions on english anime dubs (even though some sub elitists really need to chill)

I do like the JoJo’s sub, and I would absolutely still be into the series if that’s the only version we had, but something about the dub just elevated my experience. Make no mistake, I realize that the dub is overall goofy as all hell, but that’s just another layer of enjoyment for me. It also isn’t a case of preferring dub to sub because I don’t want to read the subtitles. Like I said, I’d gladly do it if it was the only way to watch the show.

Overall, there’s just something about the voice acting in the dub that pulls me in in a way that the sub doesn’t. Obviously not everything’s perfect, the localized Stand names being a massive strike against the dub. I also think that the Stand Cries have a tendency to be better in the sub.

Not to be Queer(tm), but some of the dub voices just make me melt. Most are in Vento Aureo as that’s my favorite part (including the entirety of La Squadra), but God I hope that whoever made the decision to cast D. C. Douglas as Kira was paid extra for that alone.
